Pestel Analysis Of Macdonald s Fast Food Chain
Part 1 I decided to carry out a PEST/STEEPL analysis on MacDonald s, the fast food chain. Although
in their own Mission and Value statement they describe themselves as a franchise business. The STEP
analysis proved to be relatively easy, in some was it is similar to SWOT, in that once a start has been
made it is difficult to stop. I used a copy of their 2011 Annual Report as the basis for the analysis, this
did make things difficult in term of economic factors as the report was mainly financial information
and based towards shareholders use. The best I could come up with was exchange rate fluctuations
which affect the business being the global enterprise it is, also income affecting customers. Too little
and they stop eating out, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Internal Analysis will be largely based around the links among resources, capabilities and
competitive advantage as outlined by Robert Grant in 2008. Internally Sunderland has several
resources, ranging from tangible, (finance and physical resources for example the Stadium of Light
and Academy of Light) to the human resources, (Players, Management, and Administrative Staff).
Tangible Resources 1. Physical Buildings owned by the club. The most obvious being the Stadium of
Light and the Club s training ground, The Academy of Light. These, particularly the Stadium are
being developed by use for other events and Conference venues and open up other revenue streams. 2.
Financial money coming into the Club, via player sales, sales of match tickets and programmes, club
merchandise, subscriptions to SAFC TV (the club s own on line TV) and from use of the Stadium as a
Conference Venue and for staging Rock Concerts. Intangible Resources Resources which the Club has
but cannot be touched, these include: 1. History Under the management of Roy Keane, photographs of
the Club s various League and Cup triumphs and of Famous former players were placed on the walls
of the Player s Tunnel 2. Reputation The Club built its reputation in the early years of British football,
the 1870s through to the 1950s. While it is still considered by some to be one of the country s leading
clubs, success, apart from in 1973 has been limited. 3. Culture Two CDs

Kant And John Stuart Mill
Mena Boyah
Philosophy Final
1.The ship s cook has asked us whether or not it is morally ok to kill and cook up some of the local
life to sustain ourselves while we shelter on this planet. I would like to pull up the philosophers from
our holographic archive that would argue that it is morally ok to do so. The three philosophers that
will aid me in my decision are Jeremy Bentham, Kant, and John Stuart Mill.
First let us start with Jeremy Bentham his philosophies are centered around the pain and pleasure
theory. Bentham would argue as long as the total amount of pain for the organisms is out weighed by
the total number of pleasure units gained by our crew than it would be morally acceptable to pursue
some lifeforms as food. However on the other hand if the organism in questions pain outweighs our
total pleasure than the opposite would be true.
The next philosopher I would like to call to the stage is John Stuart Mill, Mill s philosophy is centered
around the Utility or the Greatest Happiness Principle. This principle argues that we as humans never
desire anything but pleasure. With that being said if we are to argue that we need to acquire food for
the pleasure of our existence than it make moral sense to be able to harvest some life on this planet to
keep our existence going. However on the other side of the argument we shouldn t kill more life than
we need to survive, if we were to do this than it would void our moral principles of pleasure and move
into the realm of

Epistemological Assumptions Focus On What Can Be Acquired...
Epistemological assumptions focus on what can be known and how knowledge can be acquired (Bell,
8). I am a positivist; we believe that knowledge is found via empirical observations (obtained through
the senses). Positivism follows an identical approach as the study of natural sciences in the testing of a
theory. Though their is a difference between the two fields the deductive approach works just as well
in both. You create a theory, generate a hypothesis, test with empirical data, and see whether or not it
confirms or rejects it (6). If it is confirmed by empirical means, then it is knowledge (9). I believe that
the world can be objectively experienced and described, via quantitative research: collecting data,
transforming it into statistics which then formulate into facts and uncover patterns (14). Ontology as
Bell states is split up into two camps, by two questions, firstly: is social reality real, or is it a set of
mental constructions? (12) Secondly, is social reality pre existing or is it created through our actions?
(12) I am an objectivist; I believe there is a pre existing social reality, were social phenomena exist
outside the influence of social actors. My assumptions, would impact my choice of research design by
limiting my selection. For me to research a social phenomenon, I would need a research design that
would allow me to study it as a physical object. Something that provides a lot of quantitative data, and
that if given to other researchers would reveal the

A Slave Girl
This profoundly moving, first hand account of Slavery during the 19th century, gives the reader
invaluable and in depth insight into the horrifying treatment of African Americans slaves and
completely unveils the true ugliness that will permanently mark the country s beginnings. Written by
Harriet Jacobs under the pseudonym Linda Brent, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl depicts how it
was to grow up somebody else s property as a female slave, as well as, her grueling fight to liberate
herself and her children.
The average life of a slave could depend significantly upon whose possession they were in. Certain
slave owners, though few, were considerably more compassionate and humane in their treatment of
their slaves such as her dead mother s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The North did not particularly care about the injustices or cruelties associated with the institution of
slavery in the states it was already established in. They did greatly care about it spreading to new
western states though, as it would in turn strengthen the South s overall power. If allowed to expand,
slavery would threaten the livelihood of the average white American. The South in turn feared that
Abraham Lincoln, a member of the National Union party, getting elected meant that no new state
would be allowed to become slave states. As a result, the South s power in congress would slip, which
would allow abolitionists to come in and abolish slavery completely. Even with a whole war that had
slavery at its core, the real issue of slavery was its effects on White Americans not the

Typewareness In Adrain Frutiger
Moreover, the drive to the core of unawareness is also evident in the realm of graphic design and type
design. In Adrain Frutiger, one of the most well known type artist s eyes, for a typeface to go
unnoticed is the greatest compliment for a type designer and a typographer can receive (Linotype,
2009). The purpose of a typeface is to communication. Only when a typeface becomes transparent or
invisible will it communicate contents or ideas efficiently without pushing itself forward (Haley,
2012). The whole point with typeface is for you not to be aware it is there Frutiger said and made an
impressive comparison: If you remember the shape of a spoon with which you just ate some soup,
then the spoon had a poor shape . Furthermore, in light of the current situation, technically speaking,
everything becomes possible, typefaces can be easily shaped into any forms enlarged, reduced,
condensed or expanded, slanted and deformed, all within seconds. It is a time for type design step out
into a new field, beyond technology, the field of human, of social concern: how readily legible, how
user friendly and how to design for survival and we human beings survive through design at the same
time. Based on this, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

corresponding visual characteristics, daily functions, emotional attachment and changes through a
long time use. In brief, the aims of the theoretical background are to present evidence from the subject
literature that the current tendency of design for the sake of attention is filling the people s life and
environment with nonsense trashes and wasting valuable resources from nature. Although Super
Normal is probably not a panacea for all problems, it provides a better and more sustainable

Analyzing Lewis Thomas Essay Altruism
Altruism is an example of an expositional essay. Reasons to support this include the following: the
essay talks about altruism and biology in depth, explaining everything, it then provides solid facts
about the topic including observations, and it expresses an opinion of the facts/ideas about altruism
while bringing issues into light.
In the first two paragraphs Lewis Thomas describes altruism as acts of self sacrifice but in the next
paragraph, he specifies altruism is a human behaviour as opposed to any animal or insect s behaviour.
Thomas states that animals don t have human brains to think things through, in other words, they are
mechanical, they just do things without justification and therefore the term altruism does not apply to
them. Animals don t have the ability to do things and be concerned about consequences, in other
words, they don t consciously intend to act a certain way, therefore animals have no connection to
altruism, for altruism is a human behaviour.
Altruism, despite the fact that a human conduct, needs extraordinary expressions to convey what
needs be on all levels of unselfishness, for example, love and regard, since benevolence is regularly
mistaken for any benevolent conduct made by living animals, and we should not utilize this general
term to depict specific practices and behaviours. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thomas says that survival is the key to success in nature. When we think about the survival of
ourselves, it often means we will do anything and everything needed to survive. This may include
hurting or killing other animals in order to protect oneself and the irony of this comes in when we
think about what we define survival as, and what altruism is defined as. According to the English
Dictionary, these terms are exact opposites, yet Thomas uses them cohesively in one

Epicurus Happiness
According to Epicurus, the purpose of life is attaining happiness since, if [happiness] be present, we
have everything, and, if [happiness] be absent, all our actions are directed towards attaining it.
Although that statement is undoubtedly true, people use different ways for finding happiness. Epicurus
believes that the best guideline towards happiness is pursuing pleasure, which is the alpha and omega
of a blessed life , and avoiding pain. That is why many people describe his approach as very
hedonistic. However, he makes it clear that by pleasure he means the absence of pain in the body and
of trouble in the soul , and not the pleasures of the prodigal or the pleasures of sensuality , which sets
him apart from hedonism. What is more,

This general method has led to understanding of dynamic performance of PWM converters. However,
the state space method is sometimes tedious, especially when the converter circuit contains a large
number of elements [6]. To overcome some of the problems mentioned above, a signal flow graph
(SFG) nonlinear graphical modeling method was developed for PWM converters [7]. The advantages
of this method over other methods are: (i) it converts the switching converter into a unified dynamic
model, (ii) from unified model, it is possible to derive large, small signal and steady state models,
(iii) it is easier to arrive at small signal models with minimum mathematical manipulations, (iv) it is
possible to derive various relationships among the circuit variables without any difficulty, (v) it is
possible to incorporate the cause and effect relationship of the dynamics etc. This SFG method

was also extended to study the dynamics of one cycle controlled switching converters [8], large signal
and steady state analysis of dc dc parallel converters [9]. The objective of this paper is to develop the
small signal SFG from the simplified SFG, and present a small signal feedback analysis of a closed
loop voltage mode controlled interleaved dual boost (IDB) converter.

Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge
The wildlife refuge complex in the Klamath River Basin is part of a migratory bird wetland habitat
system that spans the western seaboard. Wilson (2010) refers to the Pacific Coast wetland habitats as
being like links in a chain that lead birds from wintering grounds to summer breeding habitats, which
are only effective if each one remains intact(p. 7). It is estimated that three quarters of the birds
traveling through this chain make a stop in the Klamath Basin, and roughly half of those can be found
at Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge in northern California (Foster 2008 ;Wilson 2010 ). Tule Lake
National Wildlife Refuge and it s neighbor Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) also
serve as sources of farmland for local farmers, who are able to lease lands under the Kuchel Act of
1964 (Kuchel Act 1964). If there is water left over from irrigating farmland, it is allocated to remain
on the refuges to provide wetland habitat for birds. Water scarcity has posed a serious threat to birds
that use the refuges. In 2012, avian cholera killed more than 10,00 birds in the Klamath refuges, a
result of overcrowding in scarce pools of water. In 2014 an average of 100 infected bird carcasses
were discovered a day during the summer months(Jarrell 2014). ... Show more content on

Quotes From Advice To Laertes
In this act, Laertes who is the older sibling gives advice to Ophelia who is his younger sibling. Laertes
tells Ophelia that as for the attention Hamlet is giving to you, just consider it flirtation, it is just a
temporary phase of youth. He mentions that it will not last very long, it might be sweet right not but it
will fade away. He states that when a boy grows into a man, he just doesn t grow physically but also
his responsibilities grow, he may love you now but you have to be careful. Hamlet belongs to the royal
family so his intentions don t matter, he must make decisions according to the benefit to the country.
Laertes also tells her how shameful it would be she got caught into his seductive trap, and she would
surrender everything and expose herself. Lastly, he tells Ophelia young people often lose their self
control even without any help from others. This was a very protective advice from his brother who
doesn t want his younger sister to get hurt.

Architecture During The Renaissance
The fifteenth and sixteenth century is a period of transition between the Medieval Ages and the
Modern Times. This period, called the Renaissance, had manifested itself in Italy. This movement,
which would have its repercussion in France, Spain, England, Germany, Switzerland, is characterized
by a series of political, economic, social and intellectual changes.
The Renaissance was a very important era for architecture because during the Renaissance,
architecture became so much more than just buildings. It was created because the Medieval Ages was
such a dark, depressing time. The people who lived in that area needed change. Architecture played a
vital role in Renaissance and the changes that happened. Without the changes of architecture that
happened during the Renaissance, it wouldn t be anything like what it is today. What led to the
Renaissance was, the Byzantine Empire had long since decayed. The beginnings of the crisis go back
to the capture of Constantinople by the crusaders in 1204. The Latin barons ruined the city which
never got up completely from this looting. In addition, the gap between the rich and the poor was
widening as state resources dwindled dangerously. Unable to defend his own frontiers, the emperor
had to buy peace from other sovereigns. He had to resolve to entrust the army to mercenaries. Soon
the Turks threatened the city. Besieged from 1394 to 1402, Constantinople was miraculously saved by
the Mongol invasion of Tamerlane. The respite was to fall short. The advent of an energetic Sultan,
Mehmet II, at the head of the Turkish army, precipitated the denouement. In 1453, a powerful
Ottoman army moved under the walls of the city. Constantinople finally falls under the pressure of
janissaries. The fall of Constantinople, apparently, did not upset the West: the Christian sovereigns left
the old Eastern Empire. However, this event had important consequences for the countries of Europe.
Many Byzantine prelates, artists and men of science fled to the West, including Italy. They brought
their knowledge, their ideas and their libraries of ancient manuscripts. Italian scientists and artists took
advantage of the knowledge accumulated in the East. They exerted a real pressure on the architects

Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close Chapter 6
Throughout the novel Extremely Loud Incredibly Close, we see Oskar Schell struggle to deal with the
death of his father from 9/11. In the ninth chapter. Happiness, Happiness, we particularly see Oskar
sees sides of his mother that were yet to be defined, how he thinks about the tragedy a lot, and the
ways we see him cope with the way his father died and how he seems to invent ways to figure out his
father s death and everything he does in his life revolves around that.
Chapter nine opens with an interview of a Hiroshima bomb survivor that Oskar brought in to show the
class. Besides the fact that the story the survivor tells is incredibly horrible and tragic, it resembles
9/11 extremely well. For example, the woman woke up with shattered glass around him and he needed

justify his dad s death but at the same time find closure. Oskar is obviously alluding this special power
of cats to his father, imagining that his father fell out of the building and would have been able to
survive the fall if he was like a cat. The reader knows this because we see a picture that Oskar
obsesses over of a man falls off a building with the same shape of the cat when they fall, only upside
down. Oskar cannot think about anything else but his father, and this is shown by literally all of his
actions. He also cancels his appointments and misses school to travel all over the boroughs of New
York with strangers to find a match to a key he finds in his dad s study, instead of asking his mother.

Physical Culture In America Essay
Over the years, America has established an atmosphere where space and society, not only influences
physical culture, but is influenced by the culture as well. These influences help to create knowledge
and power within contemporary America that has shaped our society. The relationship between
physical culture, space, and society is very important because it has created many of the social
constructs and norms that we have within the sport. Historically, physical activity has been a space for
men to prove their masculinity and power, thus creating a stigma of male superiority. Physical activity
is more than just physical, it is also mental and strategic. Physical activity is used to gain status as
well. Things such as Social constructs, such as race hierarchy, that was formed through contemporary
society found itself embedded within sports. It helped to create different power dynamics within social

A dopplegänger is a ghostly double of a person that haunts its living counterpart. In Joseph Conrad s
novella, The Secret Sharer, Leggatt is the Captain s dopplegänger. At the beginning of the story, the
Captain is isolated, insecure, fearful of failure, and a stranger to the crewmen and himself. However,
with the help of his dopplegänger, Leggatt, the Captain transforms into a strong, confident man, in full
command of his ship. Leggatt serves the role of a teacher and friend in the Captain s life, helping him
in his struggle to gain respect of his crewmen and himself. He becomes the secret sharer by sharing his
good qualities such as bravery and strength with the Captain. In the novel, the Captain is isolated from

It also shows how much the Captain has changed his relationship with Leggatt. The Captain s words
to his crew become more demanding and direct. For instance, when the Second Mate questions the
Captain about opening the quarter deck ports, the Captain responds by, The only reason you need
concern yourself about is because I tell you to do so. Have them open wide and fastened properly (40).
This shows that the Captain has become more confident and his feelings of inadequacy has vanished.
He no longer feels insecure about himself or ordering of his crewmen. He also orders the men to move
the ship closer to the island, giving Leggatt a chance to escape and survive. The Chief Mate responds
by saying, Do you mean, sir, in the dark amongst the lot of all them islands and reefs and shoals? (45).
Instead of hesitating or doubting, the Captain responds calmly, saying that they must go to find the
land breezes. This shows the Captain s confidence in himself and his judgement. Although the crew is
afraid, the Captain fearlessly leads the ship to the island. This is the first time that the Captain has
taken full control of the ship without second guessing himself or worrying about what the crewmen
will think of him. No one in the world should stand now between us, throwing a shadow on the way of
his silent knowledge and mute affection, the perfect communion of a seaman with his first command

Essay on Taking a Closer Look at the Modernization Theory
MODERNIZATION THEORY
The invention of the concepts of development and underdevelopment is attributable to the former U.S.
President Harry Truman, in a speech in January 1949, stressed the need to help the underdeveloped
countries. In an international context of profound change following the Second World War and the
process of decolonization that followed, the United States , then became superpower , proposed to
establish a new world order in which the conflicting worldviews stand down mutual development ;
The aim is to enable all countries to achieve a high level of economic well being and social
development. As the Cold War began and the risk of Communist expansion increased, the U.S.
decided to study the Third World countries in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, according to this theory, underdeveloped countries are perceived as backward compared to
developed countries as models for having reached the final stage of development presented by Rostow
[2]. As highlighted sociologists modernization Talcott Parsons (1951) and Alex Inkeless (1964),
changing values and social structures is a fundamental basis of the process of economic development
of a country factor. Indeed, the traditional values of a country need to be replaced by modern Western
values , emphasizing individualism and rationality, because without this change of mentality,
traditional societies cannot develop modern institutions it are needed to promote progress and
economic growth, the ultimate goals of modernization, and ensure the maintenance of order can be
challenged by the changes that cause the development [3].
Theories of modernization have therefore concentrated on the overall internal blockages Third World
countries on the advent of mass consumer society and the general, economic changes as political, and
cultural to be made to achieve this goal.
In response to modernization theories developed at the same time the Current of Raul Prebisch
dependendistas worn by CEPAL (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean) and

Traumatic Stress In Law Enforcement Essay

support and critical incident stress management adequately explains how mental health professionals,
with the help of trained paraprofessionals, use crisis intervention theory to provide mental health
support to law enforcement communities in order to reduce job related stress and improve overall
wellbeing. The following review will explain, how mental health providers, through the use of peer
supports, have been able to break through the rigid boundaries historically established between the law
enforcement and mental health communities. Crisis intervention techniques generated from crisis
theory can help law enforcement officers deal with their reactions to a critical incident compounded
with their constant exposure to gruesome scenes of human tragedies. Without mental health assistance,
law enforcement officers can reach debilitating stress levels that not only affect job performance but

The United States should be involved in the famine in Somalia by not only sending, food, water and

Famine is something that is not very common. It is a widespread and extreme scarcity of food.
According to the United Nations, more than two people per 10,000 die each day, acute malnutrition
rates are above 30 percent, all livestock is dead and there is less than 2,100 kilocalories of food and 4

The answer is obvious. JRR Tolkien, the author of the well known series, Lord of the Rings states It

overwhelms the quote to portray a similar message. As plans and tactics are placed into action, one
must severely and crucially be as detailed as possible. Imagine living in a mystic world. Were dragons,

Small Businesses Are Essential For The Fabric Of The...
Small businesses are essential to the fabric of the American economy. Specifically the franchise model
offers an easy way for an entrepreneur to attain success in the increasingly difficult and murky
economical landscape. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that over 13% of the total American
workforce is compromised of franchisee employees. That equates to roughly 7.9 million workers. And
while many have found unbound success within the realms of franchising, there are risks specific to
undertaking such an expenditure.
Aside from a high failure rate amount some franchises, the threat of litigation, like the threat that faces
most business owners is a sizeable one. In August of 2015, the National Labor Relations Board
released it s long awaited decision regarding joint employement in connecting to the Browning Ferris
Industries of Pennsylvania, Inc. issue. In an unprecedented move, one that overturned their previous
decisions and threatens to upend the basis of franchisor/fanchisee relationships the board decided that
in order to find that two or more entities are joint employers of a single workforce they must (1) both
be employers within the meaning of the common law; and (2) they must share or codetermine those
matters governing the essential terms and conditions of employment. In evaluating whether an
employer possesses sufficient control over employees to qualify as a joint employer, the Board will
among other factors consider whether an employer has exercised

Albert Bandura Bobo Doll Theory
Though out this paper we will be discussing the Bobo doll experiment that was conducted by Albert
Bandura in 1961 at Stanford University. We will touch on the history and theory of the Bobo doll
experiment. We will discuss how human behavior and the mental process was used, and how nature
versus nurture influences this study. We will discuss the meaning of social observational learning and
if and how it was used during this research experiment. This research was unethical, not only in my
opinion, but based off the American Psychological Association Code of Ethic, we will discuss more of
the ethical boundaries that were broken, later on.
I selected to research Bandura s Bobo Doll experiment. This experiment, based off of social learning
and was conducted by Canadian Psychologist Albert Bandura in 1961. According to Salem Press
Encyclopedia Of Health, the Bobo doll experiment was designed to investigate the role of
observational learning in social behavior; specifically, the role of observation of aggressive behavior
toward an inanimate object in children s subsequent behavior in the absence of the adult model.
(Dillon 2017) Bandura completed this experiment by testing 82 children, ranging from ages three six
years old from the nursery at Stanford University.
The Bobo Doll was an inflatable toy, that resembles the average size of a young child. The doll, was
weighted on the bottom, holding it in an upright position, so that when knocked over it would return to

Essay on Multilateral Intervention within ASEAN
The admission of Burma into ASEAN and the reluctance of ASEAN to resolve Burma s ongoing
political turmoil (the most recent, 2010 elections) have sparked off much debate and controversy
among the member states as well as the international community. This is because ASEAN upheavals
the non interference principle in managing its inter relations, indicating lack of credibility, importance
and unity. Therefore, this policy memo will suggest some short and long term strategies that will re
orientate political and economic change in Burma in accordance to ASEAN s interest.

Firstly, the reputation of ASEAN is closely linked to the measures that should be taken to resolve
Burma s current political turmoil. ASEAN has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

United States
The United States are negotiating on free trade agreements (TIFA) with ASEAN, though the
negotiations are relatively inactive due to some hindrances such as lack of transparency, large amount
of bureaucratic paperwork to do business, especially in Burma (Aung Zwa) inequality (preferential
policies) barring foreigners from the lucrative public procurement sector practiced by some member
states of ASEAN (Lee Hock Guan). Besides that on the foreign policy and security front, the United
States realizes the importance of ASEAN in facilitating to materialize its interest, to contain the rising
of China and thus to remain as the hegemonic power in South East Asia. ASEAN is also playing as a
key partner in combating against terrorism. This is because some Islamic extremist groups which are
linked to Al Qaeda had been using ASEAN countries to meet up for their attacks.
China Firstly, there has been an influx of assistance, trade and investment from China to Burma. This
can be seen as in just ten years, trade between Burma and China grew from US$15million to US$800
million. For instance, from 1991 to 1995, about $US740 million of approximately US$1 billion in
arms purchased by Burma came from China. Therefore, China maintains a good relation with Burma
because Burma had been importing its military hardware. Secondly,

Tuberculosis As A Contagious Disease
What is Tuberculosis? Tuberculosis, TB for short, is an ancient disease that has been around even
before the first recorded disease in the history. This disease can be found in Egyptian mummies from
4000 BC. Tuberculosis is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, or tubercle bacillus ( Centers for
disease, 2011). Tuberculosis is primarily a disease of the lungs, but the TB bacterium can also travel
through blood stream and attack any part of the body like kidney, spine and brain (Hamann, 1994).
According to CDC, tuberculosis is considered one of the world s deadliest diseases; 1/3 of the world s
population suffers from TB infection, in 2010, there were nearly nine million people that became sick
with TB around the world, and TB is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although some of the some scientist back in 1719, Benjamin Martin wrote a book called A New
Theory of Consumption, More Especially of Phthisis or Consumption of the Lungs, in this book he
noted the likelihood of the tuberculosis contagion stating that close proximity to someone that has this
disease causes the other person to acquired it (Reichman Hershfield, 2000). Which in a way, Benjamin
Martin, is right on point. Tuberculosis is an airborne disease, which means its main mode of
transmission is through the air. Animals such as cattle can carrier the bacteria, but most cause human
is the main reservoir of this disease (Hamann, 1994). When an infected person that has active
tuberculosis will be able to infect the air around him/her by sneezing, coughing, speaking or even
singing ( Centers for disease, 2011). The airborne droplet of the bacteria lingers longer in the air and
thus people that are in close proximity or just happen to walk by and breathe in the bacteria will
become infected. Unlike any other contagious disease, TB is not spread by shaking someone s hand,
sharing food or drink, touching bed lines or toilet seat, sharing personal items and kissing. But not
everyone that s been exposed to someone that has tuberculosis becomes symptomatic, or sick; as a
result there is two types of Tuberculosis related conditions; latent TB infection and active TB

Mexican Earthquake Essay
While Mexico was in the middle of an economic crisis, Mother Nature did not care about their dyer
situation. In fact, it turns out that she wanted to take out a bit of revenge on the people of Mexico for
what they had done to the world due to their oil extraction crusade. And how did she extract her
revenge onto the country of Mexico? Well, on September 19, 1985 around 7:15 in the morning, we are
demonstrated on how she decided to extract her revenge, by summoning a massive earthquake, with a
magnitude of 8.0, onto the capital of Mexico, Mexico City. This earthquake was recorded as one
Mexico s worst earthquake that they have ever experienced, and probably one of the deadliest of all
Mexican history. However, it wasn t just the earthquake that ruined Mexico, nor did the aftershocks as
well. Since Mexico was in the middle of an economic crisis and the country had a newly elected
president, Miguel de la Madrid, the government of Mexico couldn t be able to respond to the tragedy
during this time. There was no real plan for them to try and fix up the earthquake situation. Thus, this
further divided the country even more. So much so that according to Esteva, the earthquake had
brought in a new civil response towards their government, in which, gave rise to a new way of doing
radical politics...attributed to the network of community reconstruction groups (58). And this is
something in which Mexico still suffers to this day. Military vehicles and troopers patrolling around
cities seems to be quite a common thing to see now a day. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Thus the building of the famous Canals and the Jordaans started. During the 1600 s Amsterdam s
population was growing rapidly. It quickly became necessary to increase in size in order to
accommodate the abundance of new occupants. The community now know as the Jordaans was built
in 1612 in the western part of Grachtengordel, it was decided that this area would be for the working
class. All of the streets and building were developed around old trails and ditches which is why it
looks different from the rest of Amsterdam. The first residence of the Jordanns were fortunate that at
the time there was much need for sailors, carpenters and other workers. Soon small rooms and attics
were being rented out to whole families, due to lack of housing. Home owners began adding on extra
rooms, building up making the streets appear narrower. Back houses were also constructed and were
reachable through small ally ways that were no more than one meter wide. Most tenets of the Jordaans
wanted to escape the crowded streets and poverty that surrounded them but there were no escapes.
Some of the weathey donated money to build the Westerkerk Church, the famous artist Rembrandt is
in fact buried in a pauper s grave. The church gave the community members a place to avoid the slums
of their neighborhood. In the early eighteen hundreds six canals were added around the Jordaan

STRENGTHENING RETENTION, IMPROVING INCLUSION AND EXPANDING COVERAGE
IN HEALTHY FEEDING PROGRAMS ACROSS TEXAS DISTRICTS This letter seeks to provide a
detailed exposition of a multi faceted aspect of the challenge of food insecurity in Texas and a
proposal of clear cut practical solutions. The hope is that through the publication of this piece, the
issue will assume centre stage and attract the needed response. Over the years, notable healthy feeding
intervention programs across different government and community levels have been channelled to
Texas in response to the much documented challenge of widespread food insecurity across the state.
These programs have contributed in varying degrees to mitigating the crisis of food insecurity in the
state (Children at Risk, 2016). However, progress in retention of beneficiaries and expansion of
coverage has remained a real challenge. For there to be a sustained substantial reversal of food
insecurity in Texas, a clear determination backed by concrete plans to remove obstacles to continued
coverage and expansion for further inclusion must be prioritized. It is important to renew critical focus
on the devastating impact of food insecurity and its vast spread in the United States in

The Ordeal Of Gilbert Pinfold Analysis
In the novel The Ordeal of Gilbert Pinfold Evelyn Waugh displays the relationships Gilbert Pinfold
has with other characters. The relationships help him resolve his hallucination. Paragraph one will
argue what Mr. Pinfold is accusing the Captain of and compare it to how he carries himself and the
position he holds. The following paragraph will reflect the relationship Margaret and Mr. Pinfold have
and how she helps him understand his hallucinations. The last paragraph Mr. Pinfold comes to the
conclusion that he is the only one hearing voices after consulting with Glover. The relationships Mr.
Pinfold develops throughout the novel help him slowly understand his hallucinations.
In the novel Captain Steerforths is a man that is trustworthy and clean. The position of being Captain
of the ship entitles him to power, this makes Gilbert Pinfold question the events he is hearing from his
cabinet. After a quiet night in his bunk Mr. Pinfold is startled when he hears the Captain beneath him
committing a murder. The following day he finds it hard to be around him being the only one who is
aware of the occurrence, Knowing what he did of Captain Steerforths character, Mr. Pinfold found it
rather repugnant to sit at the table with him. (60) though Mr. Pinfold thought the Captain was guilty of
murder he still sat at his table with the others. The murder wasn t enough for Mr. Pinfold to not keep
his spot at this table of a higher class. Gilbert Pinfold views the Captain as a

Divine Command Theory And The Euthyphro Dilemma
The divine command theory is the view in which, what is right is what God commands, and what is
wrong is what God forbids (Holt). The divine command theory brings morality and religion together
in a way that provides a solution to arguments such as, moral relativism and the objectivity of ethics.
A philosopher named Plato created The Euthyphro Dilemma, which was created from the dialogue
from Socrates and Euthyphro (Holt). The Euthyphro Dilemma can be stated: Is an action morally good
because God commands it, or does God command it because it is morally good? (Holt). An individual
might be more open to take a step back from the divine command theory and look at it to be
something external to God. The ethical implications of this argument ... Show more content on

Which is to simply accept that if God does command cruelty, then inflicting it upon others would be
morally mandatory. William of Ockham who was a philosopher of the medieval time period, stated
that the actions which we call stealing and adultery would be mandatory for us if God commanded us
to do them (Mastin). Most people who follow philosophical views find this to be an unacceptable
viewpoint of moral obligation. This objection shows that any theory of ethics can leave open the
possibility that such actions are morally admirable are critically flawed (Mastin). In 1987, an analytic
philosopher named Robert Adams pointed out that William of Ockham s view emphasized that it is a
mere logical possibility that God could command to commit adultery, stealing, or killing and is not a
real possibility (Holt). From this even if it is logically possible that God could command to commit
adultery, stealing, etc., it is not something that God will do, given his place in the actual world. From
the overall objection from the William of Ockham view, I do not think he would be prepared to
enforce suffering on individuals even if God told us to do it

Introduction
The Roman Catholic Church is the largest church of all the Christian denominations with over 1.2
billion followers around the world. The Bishop of Rome or in other words, the Pope, is at the forefront
in leading such an expansive religion that extends its influence and borders beyond the Vatican City in
Rome. The Church teaches that they are the one, true church founded by Jesus Christ, claiming their
bishops to be the successors of his apostles, and that the Pope himself as the same with the many prior
popes in history are the successor to Saint Peter whom Jesus gave the Keys of Heaven to be the ...

The euphoria after JFK s victory of Catholic Americans experiencing a positive perspective by the
remainder of the country lasted until the 21st century. The biggest setback the church would face
regarding their public image was about to unfold. The Boston Globe released an article covering five
Roman Catholic priests being prosecuted for child sex abuse. The 2002 article unanimously won a
Pulitzer Prize becoming a national scandal that brought many more people to come forward with their
allegations of abuse. Roman Catholic diocese across the country quickly learned that this wasn t an
isolated issue and began to pay out settlements in the millions towards the vast number of civil
lawsuits. The church asserted remorse for the countless priests at fault, estimating the problem was
amongst no more than one percent of the 410,000 Roman Catholic priests worldwide. Regardless, the
major concern was approximately 80 percent of the cases reported occurred in the United States, while
a report by the John Jay College of Criminal Justice indicated 4 percent of priests who served between
the years 1950 2002 had allegations made against them. Addressing the issue as an internal matter,
matters were taken into the church s hands. Instead of permanently removing priests from their roles,
they were moved from one parish to another, remaining in close contact with children. Psychological
treatment was given to offending priests, while rarely reporting incidents to the police. The church s
defense was priests were allowed to return to duty once psychologists and psychiatrists notified their
bishops of their medical assessment, deeming them fit to return and face reassignment. A panel of
eight non Catholic psychiatric experts concluded at a 2003 Vatican Conference on Sexual Abuse that
the Catholic hierarchy failed to realize the seriousness of the problem, urge to cover up the

  • 2. Pestel Analysis Of Macdonald s Fast Food Chain Part 1 I decided to carry out a PEST/STEEPL analysis on MacDonald s, the fast food chain. Although in their own Mission and Value statement they describe themselves as a franchise business. The STEP analysis proved to be relatively easy, in some was it is similar to SWOT, in that once a start has been made it is difficult to stop. I used a copy of their 2011 Annual Report as the basis for the analysis, this did make things difficult in term of economic factors as the report was mainly financial information and based towards shareholders use. The best I could come up with was exchange rate fluctuations which affect the business being the global enterprise it is, also income affecting customers. Too little and they stop eating out, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Internal Analysis will be largely based around the links among resources, capabilities and competitive advantage as outlined by Robert Grant in 2008. Internally Sunderland has several resources, ranging from tangible, (finance and physical resources for example the Stadium of Light and Academy of Light) to the human resources, (Players, Management, and Administrative Staff). Tangible Resources 1. Physical Buildings owned by the club. The most obvious being the Stadium of Light and the Club s training ground, The Academy of Light. These, particularly the Stadium are being developed by use for other events and Conference venues and open up other revenue streams. 2. Financial money coming into the Club, via player sales, sales of match tickets and programmes, club merchandise, subscriptions to SAFC TV (the club s own on line TV) and from use of the Stadium as a Conference Venue and for staging Rock Concerts. Intangible Resources Resources which the Club has but cannot be touched, these include: 1. History Under the management of Roy Keane, photographs of the Club s various League and Cup triumphs and of Famous former players were placed on the walls of the Player s Tunnel 2. Reputation The Club built its reputation in the early years of British football, the 1870s through to the 1950s. While it is still considered by some to be one of the country s leading clubs, success, apart from in 1973 has been limited. 3. Culture Two CDs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Kant And John Stuart Mill Mena Boyah Philosophy Final 1.The ship s cook has asked us whether or not it is morally ok to kill and cook up some of the local life to sustain ourselves while we shelter on this planet. I would like to pull up the philosophers from our holographic archive that would argue that it is morally ok to do so. The three philosophers that will aid me in my decision are Jeremy Bentham, Kant, and John Stuart Mill. First let us start with Jeremy Bentham his philosophies are centered around the pain and pleasure theory. Bentham would argue as long as the total amount of pain for the organisms is out weighed by the total number of pleasure units gained by our crew than it would be morally acceptable to pursue some lifeforms as food. However on the other hand if the organism in questions pain outweighs our total pleasure than the opposite would be true. The next philosopher I would like to call to the stage is John Stuart Mill, Mill s philosophy is centered around the Utility or the Greatest Happiness Principle. This principle argues that we as humans never desire anything but pleasure. With that being said if we are to argue that we need to acquire food for the pleasure of our existence than it make moral sense to be able to harvest some life on this planet to keep our existence going. However on the other side of the argument we shouldn t kill more life than we need to survive, if we were to do this than it would void our moral principles of pleasure and move into the realm of ... • 4. Epistemological Assumptions Focus On What Can Be Acquired... Epistemological assumptions focus on what can be known and how knowledge can be acquired (Bell, 8). I am a positivist; we believe that knowledge is found via empirical observations (obtained through the senses). Positivism follows an identical approach as the study of natural sciences in the testing of a theory. Though their is a difference between the two fields the deductive approach works just as well in both. You create a theory, generate a hypothesis, test with empirical data, and see whether or not it confirms or rejects it (6). If it is confirmed by empirical means, then it is knowledge (9). I believe that the world can be objectively experienced and described, via quantitative research: collecting data, transforming it into statistics which then formulate into facts and uncover patterns (14). Ontology as Bell states is split up into two camps, by two questions, firstly: is social reality real, or is it a set of mental constructions? (12) Secondly, is social reality pre existing or is it created through our actions? (12) I am an objectivist; I believe there is a pre existing social reality, were social phenomena exist outside the influence of social actors. My assumptions, would impact my choice of research design by limiting my selection. For me to research a social phenomenon, I would need a research design that would allow me to study it as a physical object. Something that provides a lot of quantitative data, and that if given to other researchers would reveal the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Slave Girl This profoundly moving, first hand account of Slavery during the 19th century, gives the reader invaluable and in depth insight into the horrifying treatment of African Americans slaves and completely unveils the true ugliness that will permanently mark the country s beginnings. Written by Harriet Jacobs under the pseudonym Linda Brent, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl depicts how it was to grow up somebody else s property as a female slave, as well as, her grueling fight to liberate herself and her children. The average life of a slave could depend significantly upon whose possession they were in. Certain slave owners, though few, were considerably more compassionate and humane in their treatment of their slaves such as her dead mother s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The North did not particularly care about the injustices or cruelties associated with the institution of slavery in the states it was already established in. They did greatly care about it spreading to new western states though, as it would in turn strengthen the South s overall power. If allowed to expand, slavery would threaten the livelihood of the average white American. The South in turn feared that Abraham Lincoln, a member of the National Union party, getting elected meant that no new state would be allowed to become slave states. As a result, the South s power in congress would slip, which would allow abolitionists to come in and abolish slavery completely. Even with a whole war that had slavery at its core, the real issue of slavery was its effects on White Americans not the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Typewareness In Adrain Frutiger Moreover, the drive to the core of unawareness is also evident in the realm of graphic design and type design. In Adrain Frutiger, one of the most well known type artist s eyes, for a typeface to go unnoticed is the greatest compliment for a type designer and a typographer can receive (Linotype, 2009). The purpose of a typeface is to communication. Only when a typeface becomes transparent or invisible will it communicate contents or ideas efficiently without pushing itself forward (Haley, 2012). The whole point with typeface is for you not to be aware it is there Frutiger said and made an impressive comparison: If you remember the shape of a spoon with which you just ate some soup, then the spoon had a poor shape . Furthermore, in light of the current situation, technically speaking, everything becomes possible, typefaces can be easily shaped into any forms enlarged, reduced, condensed or expanded, slanted and deformed, all within seconds. It is a time for type design step out into a new field, beyond technology, the field of human, of social concern: how readily legible, how user friendly and how to design for survival and we human beings survive through design at the same time. Based on this, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The emphasis in this part is on how to define Super Normal and normality in details, covering its corresponding visual characteristics, daily functions, emotional attachment and changes through a long time use. In brief, the aims of the theoretical background are to present evidence from the subject literature that the current tendency of design for the sake of attention is filling the people s life and environment with nonsense trashes and wasting valuable resources from nature. • 7. Analyzing Lewis Thomas Essay Altruism Altruism is an example of an expositional essay. Reasons to support this include the following: the essay talks about altruism and biology in depth, explaining everything, it then provides solid facts about the topic including observations, and it expresses an opinion of the facts/ideas about altruism while bringing issues into light. In the first two paragraphs Lewis Thomas describes altruism as acts of self sacrifice but in the next paragraph, he specifies altruism is a human behaviour as opposed to any animal or insect s behaviour. Thomas states that animals don t have human brains to think things through, in other words, they are mechanical, they just do things without justification and therefore the term altruism does not apply to them. Animals don t have the ability to do things and be concerned about consequences, in other words, they don t consciously intend to act a certain way, therefore animals have no connection to altruism, for altruism is a human behaviour. Altruism, despite the fact that a human conduct, needs extraordinary expressions to convey what needs be on all levels of unselfishness, for example, love and regard, since benevolence is regularly mistaken for any benevolent conduct made by living animals, and we should not utilize this general term to depict specific practices and behaviours. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thomas says that survival is the key to success in nature. When we think about the survival of ourselves, it often means we will do anything and everything needed to survive. This may include hurting or killing other animals in order to protect oneself and the irony of this comes in when we think about what we define survival as, and what altruism is defined as. • 8. Epicurus Happiness According to Epicurus, the purpose of life is attaining happiness since, if [happiness] be present, we have everything, and, if [happiness] be absent, all our actions are directed towards attaining it. Although that statement is undoubtedly true, people use different ways for finding happiness. Epicurus believes that the best guideline towards happiness is pursuing pleasure, which is the alpha and omega of a blessed life , and avoiding pain. That is why many people describe his approach as very hedonistic. However, he makes it clear that by pleasure he means the absence of pain in the body and of trouble in the soul , and not the pleasures of the prodigal or the pleasures of sensuality , which sets him apart from hedonism. This general method has led to understanding of dynamic performance of PWM converters. However, the state space method is sometimes tedious, especially when the converter circuit contains a large number of elements [6]. To overcome some of the problems mentioned above, a signal flow graph (SFG) nonlinear graphical modeling method was developed for PWM converters [7]. The advantages of this method over other methods are: (i) it converts the switching converter into a unified dynamic model, (ii) from unified model, it is possible to derive large, small signal and steady state models, (iii) it is easier to arrive at small signal models with minimum mathematical manipulations, (iv) it is possible to derive various relationships among the circuit variables without any difficulty, (v) it is possible to incorporate the cause and effect relationship of the dynamics etc. This SFG method M. Veerachary et al. / Computers and Electrical Engineering 29 (2003) 67 84 69 was also extended to study the dynamics of one cycle controlled switching converters [8], large signal and steady state analysis of dc dc parallel converters [9]. • 10. Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge The wildlife refuge complex in the Klamath River Basin is part of a migratory bird wetland habitat system that spans the western seaboard. Wilson (2010) refers to the Pacific Coast wetland habitats as being like links in a chain that lead birds from wintering grounds to summer breeding habitats, which are only effective if each one remains intact(p. 7). It is estimated that three quarters of the birds traveling through this chain make a stop in the Klamath Basin, and roughly half of those can be found at Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge in northern California (Foster 2008 ;Wilson 2010 ). Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge and it s neighbor Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) also serve as sources of farmland for local farmers, who are able to lease lands under the Kuchel Act of 1964 (Kuchel Act 1964). If there is water left over from irrigating farmland, it is allocated to remain on the refuges to provide wetland habitat for birds. Water scarcity has posed a serious threat to birds that use the refuges. In 2012, avian cholera killed more than 10,00 birds in the Klamath refuges, a result of overcrowding in scarce pools of water. In 2014 an average of 100 infected bird carcasses were discovered a day during the summer months(Jarrell 2014). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 12. Architecture During The Renaissance The fifteenth and sixteenth century is a period of transition between the Medieval Ages and the Modern Times. This period, called the Renaissance, had manifested itself in Italy. This movement, which would have its repercussion in France, Spain, England, Germany, Switzerland, is characterized by a series of political, economic, social and intellectual changes. The Renaissance was a very important era for architecture because during the Renaissance, architecture became so much more than just buildings. It was created because the Medieval Ages was such a dark, depressing time. The people who lived in that area needed change. Architecture played a vital role in Renaissance and the changes that happened. Without the changes of architecture that happened during the Renaissance, it wouldn t be anything like what it is today. What led to the Renaissance was, the Byzantine Empire had long since decayed. The beginnings of the crisis go back to the capture of Constantinople by the crusaders in 1204. The Latin barons ruined the city which never got up completely from this looting. In addition, the gap between the rich and the poor was widening as state resources dwindled dangerously. Unable to defend his own frontiers, the emperor had to buy peace from other sovereigns. He had to resolve to entrust the army to mercenaries. Soon the Turks threatened the city. Besieged from 1394 to 1402, Constantinople was miraculously saved by the Mongol invasion of Tamerlane. The respite was to fall short. The advent of an energetic Sultan, Mehmet II, at the head of the Turkish army, precipitated the denouement. In 1453, a powerful Ottoman army moved under the walls of the city. Constantinople finally falls under the pressure of janissaries. The fall of Constantinople, apparently, did not upset the West: the Christian sovereigns left the old Eastern Empire. However, this event had important consequences for the countries of Europe. Many Byzantine prelates, artists and men of science fled to the West, including Italy. They brought their knowledge, their ideas and their libraries of ancient manuscripts. Italian scientists and artists took advantage of the knowledge accumulated in the East. They exerted a real pressure on the architects ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close Chapter 6 Throughout the novel Extremely Loud Incredibly Close, we see Oskar Schell struggle to deal with the death of his father from 9/11. In the ninth chapter. Happiness, Happiness, we particularly see Oskar sees sides of his mother that were yet to be defined, how he thinks about the tragedy a lot, and the ways we see him cope with the way his father died and how he seems to invent ways to figure out his father s death and everything he does in his life revolves around that. Chapter nine opens with an interview of a Hiroshima bomb survivor that Oskar brought in to show the class. Besides the fact that the story the survivor tells is incredibly horrible and tragic, it resembles 9/11 extremely well. The week before he brings in the interview, he brings in his cat and shows that they can fall from great heights without hurting themselves because they make their body into a parachute. The reader can see that not only this but many other actions of Oskar s show that he is attempting to figure out a way to justify his dad s death but at the same time find closure. Oskar is obviously alluding this special power of cats to his father, imagining that his father fell out of the building and would have been able to survive the fall if he was like a cat. The reader knows this because we see a picture that Oskar obsesses over of a man falls off a building with the same shape of the cat when they fall, only upside down.
