10. OBJECTIVES
a. Define and identify the Coordinating
conjunctions according to use;
b. Appreciate the value of coordinating
conjunctions according to as means of
vivid communication in daily
conversation; and
c. Explain how and why coordinating
conjunctions are used.
14. 1.the “For” type
It is explaining why (more formal
and less common than because.)
Example:
He’s overweight, for he eats too
many cakes and biscuits.
15. 2. the “And” type
And is used to add something
to what has already been said.
Example:
The man was ugly and mean.
16. 3. the “Nor” type
Nor connects negative
statements.
Example:
They did not fix my camera, nor
did they fix my lens.
17. 4.the “But” type
But adds something contrary
to or different from what has been
said.
Example:
He is stupid but hard working.
18. 5. the “Or” type
Or implies a choice. It
connects ideas of equal value, giving
one a chance to choose either idea.
Example:
You can come today or
tomorrow.
19. 6. the “Yet” type
Yet has the same meaning as
but it is join sentences that are
opposite or show contrast.
Example:
He treats her badly, yet she still
loves him.
20. 7. the “So” type
The conjunction so is used when
the second part is a consequence or
effect of the first part.
Example:
I know you must be tired, so I will let
you rest.
