The Aspects Of The Moral Tales In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
In the General Prologue of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the Host instructs the pilgrims to tell Tales of
best sentence and moost solaas (GP 798). In other words, in order to win the contest, the pilgrims must
tell stories which both impart serious meaning/wisdom ( sentence ) as well as entertainment ( solaas ).
While the pilgrims all achieve these two goals to varying degrees, The Pardoner s Tale seems at first to
succeed very well in providing both moral teaching and entertainment. However, while his tale
effortlessly satisfies the solaas requirement, the Pardoner cannot truly provide the sentence he aims
for, as his lesson degrades into hypocrisy and he lacks the respect from the other pilgrims necessary to
afford his tale the impact he intends.
The Pardoner s Tale, an exemplum intended to demonstrate the phrase radix malorum est cupiditas
(greed is the root of all evil), tells of three riotoures (degenerates) who wish to find and kill Death.
(Pard 334, 463). A mysterious old man tells them that Death resides underneath a nearby tree, under
which the three men find a sack of gold instead. However the men do indeed find Death underneath
the tree, as they end up killing each other due to their own greed. This tale easily satisfies the solaas
requirement in its entertainment value. Firstly, the tale contains elements of mystery which make it
interesting. For example, the old man that points the three men to their demise is both enigmatically
old and inexplicably

Increase in the Unemployment Rates in the U.K.
The UK s unemployment rate reached its highest peak in 2011 at just under 2.7 million during the
recent recession which economists are calling the Great Recession (BBC News, 2014). Since,
however the fall in the rate of unemployment has not been as sharp as many predicted, concerns have
been raised over whether unemployment levels in this single period may have a long lasting effect.
The issue of hysteresis within the UK and the persistence of unemployment is what this paper will
focus on, as well as the reasons why the youth unemployment rate is much higher. Using the Demand
deficient theory of unemployment, which is the Keynesian view of unemployment that suggest high
real wages cause long term unemployment, I will examine whether this ... Show more content on

Another industry that has shown signs of employment growth during this hard time is the
accommodation and food services industry. Which, outside of London, has seen a 4.8% increase in
employment. This could be due to employees from other industries simply switching careers, which
opposes the view of this model that skills diminish or are not transferrable between sectors of the
economy (ONS, 2014). On the other hand this rise in employment could simply be due to the UK s
flexible labour market. Another industry that has experienced a downwards growth trend is the mining
and quarrying industry. There has been a dramatic reduction in growth, as between the periods of early
2011 and the final quarter of 2013 the industry has been 35.2% below its pre recession peak. However
this industry decline has been slowly happening since 1999, this consequently could be a contributing
factor to the issue of hysteresis as this is the second largest sub industry of total production within the
UK (ONS, 2013). This fits within the assumptions of the model of structural unemployment as the
decline in the industry has clearly led to higher levels of unemployment. The long term decline of
such a large industry can often lead to long term unemployment, such as we saw in the coal industry,
which is a common cause of hysteresis. However this alone cannot be blamed for hysteresis.
Blanchard and Summers wrote about three reasons for hysteresis and unemployment persistence, one

Woman Of Algiers Essay
The woman of Algiers was a group of North African woman who inspired Delacroix to paint a portrait
of them during his voyage to North Africa. His painting was a great work of art that gave us the
perfect synthesis between romanticism and classicism and let us view the woman in their relaxed state
in the Muslim Haram. Now Eugene Delacroix wasn t the only one to paint the woman of Algiers,
although he was the creator of the original painting. Pablo Picasso was another influential painter who
was inspired by the painting Delacroix did of the women and decided to create his own unique
version. Both the paintings are well known and of the same scene but have unique characteristics to
make them their own. This essay will go through some of the similarities ... Show more content on

Muslim harems were heavily guarded and so it was difficult to enter one. Delacroix was fortunate
enough to meet a man named Victor Poirel who owned a private harem and so he was granted his wish
to enter and stay for some time and was even given permission to paint several watercolor sketches.
These sketches like mentioned before were painted in morocco, a country in Northern Africa in 1834.
It wasn t made specifically for any one person but was merely a representation of a lifestyle that was
vastly different from the French. Delacroix seemed to be refreshed by the culture that Morocco
presented; from the brightly colored, flowing costumes, the Arabs and their women, and the
enchanting horses all of these seemed to captivate the artist which inspired this work and many of
Delacroix other pieces. From these sketches Delacroix painted Women of Algiers in their apartment
upon his return home and aimed to convey its serenity and sacredness to the outside world. In the
painting we can see four women, three of a lighter complexion and one of a darker complexion. They
seem to be in a relaxed state with their legs crossed and arms rested. They are not looking at

The Chernobyl Disaster
Progress often drives society toward betterment as a whole and its importance is often emphasized by
those who wish to improve the lives of everyday citizens. However, the pursuit of progress can and
has had negative consequences, and some of those byproducts have devastated and destroyed lives. A
clear example of the dangers of progress is evident when one takes a retrospective glance at the
Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster. Gerd Ludwig, a photographer interested in documenting the remains
of Chernobyl and the nearby city of Pripyat, magnificently captures the decaying and empty remains
of a school library. Once a center of education filled with the faces of children, the Chernobyl disaster
resulted in the abandonment of this building. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The absence of students in a place in which children once visited as a part of their daily lives also
paints a bleak picture of the potential dangers of progress, and this is evident in the image. This school
library that was once regularly visited by children, teachers, and other individuals is now
uninhabitable due to the effects of the Chernobyl disaster. People are not present in the photograph,
and judging by the deteriorating state in which the school library exists, the building appears to have
been abandoned for quite some time. Instead of housing children who are in the pursuit of knowledge,
this place that was once a center of education for the Ukrainian youth now only holds the weathered
yellow pages of rotting books and fallen bookshelves. In addition to being devoid of life, the objects
of the library themselves depict a vacuum of human presence. For instance, there a desk present in the
photograph that is closer to the photographer than the bookcases, and this desk is deteriorating and
buried in books. This implies that the desk has not been used by a human being in a very long time,
since a student would need to clear the desk of books in order to easily make use of it. Likewise, the
layers of books littering the ground also suggest that the building is abandoned for a lengthy period of
time,

Kelley Outbreak
The Kelly outbreak is a famous phenomenon in Australia s colonial history. Whilst some people prefer
to see the outbreak as a simple criminal incident between an outlaw and the police, most historians
view it as a broader sociological phenomenon, involving conflict between a larger rural community
and the colonial authorities. An important issue for historians has been to understand the underlying
causes of this criminal outbreak, whether it was mainly due to personal, ethnic or socio economic
factors. This essay will critically examine each of these explanations and argue that the actions of the
Kellys and their supporters, and the reactions of the police can best be understood in terms of broad
socio economic developments in rural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These changes, he argues, could not fail to produce profound results , one of which was an outbreak of
social banditry 13 . Evidence from the period strongly supports such a view. The region was first
occupied by squatters during the late 1830s and 1840s, and was largely settled by 1847. By 1850,
several villages were established, there were good seasons and high wool prices .... 14 Between 1860
and 1880 several land reform laws were introduced, intended to halt the monopoly of the squatters by
creating a new rural class from the diggers now experiencing diminishing returns on the goldfields.
These laws made available small freeholds of pastoral land for selection by any man or (single)
woman over the age of eighteen.... 15 This effort to make land available to the new rural classes
proved a failure however. The government s and the selectors knowledge of agriculture, shaped by the
European experience, proved largely to be inapplicable to Australia .. 16 In addition, selection was
opposed and obstructed by the squatters who used their superior knowledge of land conditions,
political and financial influence, and evasion of certain regulations of the Land Acts to amass large
holdings of premium land, leaving poorer land to selectors. ... 17 This situation caused hardship and
poverty among selectors, and stock theft became an increasing problem as the selectors sought to
supplement meagre food supplies and income with stock stolen

France s Role in World War II
Vichy Regime France s role in World War II is one that has become the discussion of much modern
debate. France was, ostensibly, an enemy of Germany for the early part of World War II, and, as such,
stood in opposition to Germany s Nazi regime, resisted Nazi occupation, and had a very active
resistance to the Nazis. However, the view of France as an occupied country that was victimized by
the Nazis is an overly simplistic view. France was not merely a victim of the Nazi occupation, but an
active participant in the anti Semitic behavior that drove much of Nazi era German political thought.
The Vichy Regime refers to the French government during the period from July 1940 to August 1944,
after France s military defeat by Germany. It was a French government that differed significantly from
governments before it; Mashal Philippe Pétain took power as President of the Council, not President
of France. Under Pétain, France cooperated with Nazi Germany. While Pétain was the President of the
Council, Charles de Gaulle could be considered the leader of non Vichy France, and headed France
after France was liberated in World War II. However, the impact of the Vichy Regime did not end with
the Allies recognition of the Provisional Government of the French Republic (GPRF) in October 23,
1944. The destruction of the Vel d Hiv in 1959, under de Gualle s leadership, provided evidence of
France s complicity with the Nazis in World War II. France s silence about the Vel d Hiv Roundup for

Maritime Terrorist Attacks via Containerized Shipping
Christopher Welch
Author Note
This paper was prepared for Operations Management 5993, taught by Dr. Livingston
Executive Summary
There is a growing concern over the vulnerabilities of port security and the possible exploitation of
these vulnerabilities by a terrorist organization; specifically, the use of containerized shipping. The
vastness of the process of maritime operations alone creates a large opportunity for vulnerability, but
add to it the different regulation requirements by all the different countries involved in the global
market and there is a large difference in protection standards and the execution of them. This paper
will explore the possibilities of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main agenda of Maritime security is protection of our National ports. By preventing smuggling,
as well as, other threat scenarios like a ship being used as a collision weapon or transportation of
Weapons of Mass Destruction.
An estimated $4 trillion worth of the worlds goods are moved by see, this is roughly 80 percent of
global freight and it is accomplished in the form of cargo that is transshipped. This demonstrates the
shear overwhelming size of the task of tracking and inspecting all of the containers that travel to and
from the United States. For all parties involved in enforcing the security measures, there is a constant
battle, over executing the requirements and how much time it takes. Because most shipping companies
work on a last minute deliver type system, which allows for the lowest cost of the shipping, there is
really no time allocated for mistakes or inspections. So, the delay in deliver can cost millions of
dollars for U.S. economy.
Risk Analysis Assessment
When considering the risk of maritime shipping be utilized to deliver a WMD, chemical weapon or
the parts to create one, a solid assessment of the probability of it happening and impact if it happened
needs to be completed. The probability of this type of attack is low, but the impact of it, if it happened,
would be catastrophic in terms of

Satire In Family Guy
What is a stereotype? The Free Dictionary defines a stereotype as a simplified and standardized
conception or image invested with special meaning and held in common by members of a group
(Stereotype). Although many people may not realize it, stereotypes influence how they interact with
others each day. People judge others because of their race, ethnicity, religion, and heritage before they
even know the person. These judgements come from stereotypes they encounter in their lives. There
are plenty of news stories, movies, and television shows that portray these stereotypes. However, Seth
McFarland s television show Family Guy uses satire to highlight stereotypes in today s society. The

Because there are a lot of jokes and news stories that target Muslims like this, many Muslim and
Arabic people are subjected to this treatment. If there were none of these jokes on the air or if news
anchors told more positive stories about Muslims and Arabs, this cultural group would have an easier
time in society (TEDxYouth). Overall, Family Guy and other media outlets portray Muslims and
Arabs as terrorists, and it makes people afraid of them because of the stereotype. In addition, another
stereotype Family Guy likes to make fun of is people of Asian heritage. Seth McFarland has written a
lot of episodes in which he uses many Asian stereotypes. For instance, in one episode, he has Peter
take an Asian student to the SAT to use as his calculator on the test, as he tells the student to do math

can also negatively impact them. There has been studies that have shown that Asian people feel

A Study On The Oriental Market Essay
It is quite surprising that I found an oriental market in Lincoln. In my imagination, big city like New

my curiosity on how the business survives in a place, where not many Asians were living. To satisfy
my curiosity in the business, I decided to take a trip to explore the oriental market. The oriental market
is located at 612 N 27th St, Lincoln. Outside the store, there is a spacious space that let the customers
to park their vehicles. There is lift truck, and a stack of old pallets. As I entered the store, the cashiers

the cashier counter. It was a shield to protect the cashier counter. The environment, decorations, and
smell of the store gave me a sense of familiarity, which is like the store in my hometown. At the left
side of the shop, there was a row of refrigerator along the wall. In each refrigerator, it included various
brands of beverages, ice creams, meats, vegetables, mushrooms and frozen foods. First column
contained garlic, onions, potatoes, and other vegetables. Second column contained mostly all the
cooking pastes, and some mixed herbs. Third column contained spices, like dried chili. Fourth column

Figurative Language In Shakespeare s Like As The Waves
While writing authors often use figurative language for a variety of reasons. Figurative language helps
makes a piece of literature more appealing and easier to read. In the poem Like as the Waves by
William Shakespeare, a large amount of figurative language. He uses figurative language to bring
more life to the writing and make it more enjoyable to read. Shakespeare s use of figurative language
helps illustrate the theme, time can bring both good and bad outcomes. One form of figurative
language used by Shakespeare in this poem is imagery. The use of imagery helps create a visual of
what is going on and makes the poem more engaging. One example of his use of imagery is when he
writes, Like as the waves make toward the pebbled shore, so do our minutes hasten to their end,

He gives human characteristics to many inanimate objects, especially to time. One example of this is

Shakespeare uses personification to show that time can never completely eliminate a person or an

story is set in. As the story goes on the reader can see how the girl is falling away from her roots as

The Racism Of Young Men Essay
Since junior high, I have always been curious as to why males felt the need to carry a tough façade.
This unauthentic behavior persuaded me to view the documentary, The Mask You Live In. Certainly,
after watching The Mask You Live In, my curiosity in men unnecessary macho persona; was relieved.
For years, I wondered, why are most males so aggressive? Why are some vulgarly forward while
flirting with women? What is wrong with men? Overall, I never could grasp why most had a really
challenging time fully expressing themselves. Whenever I would ask my male friends, their vague
response sounded like That is just how we are , as if there were innately programed for emotional
disconnect. Of course, their response would cease to satisfy my itching ears. However, after watching
this documentary, the internalized oppression of young men was clearified. It noted that they were
generally forced to suppress their feelings as young as the tender age of five, simply to gain approval
from their fathers or peers. It was disheartening to see the great pressure boys experience, simply to
reach the title of being a man . What exactly is meant by the term, be a man ? Does it imply one s
ability to maintain a numbness to feminine equality or engaging in violent tendencies? The
documentary addressed the question and enlightened one on the damages that such a short phrase can
cause as a generational curse on manhood. The mask you live in, reflected the social context of

people, protest against discrimination, all while only getting just basic education, such as training to
be a factory worker. The drastic increase in black Americans being enrolled in school in 1895 is due to
the Atlanta compromise. This proves that Booker T. Washington s approach, while cumbersome, was
highly effective in comparison to black education

The Types Of General Data
Qualitative and Quantitative are the two types of general data. Quantitative is data the deals with
quantities, information that can be measured and put down as numbers on paper. An example
quantitative data can be someone s height, shoe size, and length of hair. Qualitative data is information
that can t be measured but still existed in a sense that we can understand. When taking the two of these
and put them into the format of research they both have different aims in trying to collect their own
types of information that can be analyzed.
Qualitative research s main aim is to provide a complete and detailed description of the topic that is
been researched. This method is often used as accompany to quantitative research to generate ... Show

Once you have collected qualitative data you must then analysis the data and there are things that must
be considered. Analyzing the research involves having a aim that you want to uncover, using that
uncovered data to explain a phenomenon. Also with qualitative research you can use almost all of the
data that you may collect, any responses that you have put together from unstructured qualitative
methods. Another aspect that needs to be considered about qualitative research is that it doesn t have a
existing set system to identify and label the data. So a research need to use create their own methods
using content analysis. Content analysis is a system for labeling verbal or behavioral data so that the
data can be put into classification, summarization and tabulation classes. This allows the research to
analysis the data according to it s specifically class and allow them to know how to approach the data.
An example of how qualitative research data is analyzed can be show with these research examples;
Observation Qualitative research can be collected with something as simple as observation. The
research is able to observe the matter they wish to research without creating any kind of set
conditions. The good point

Briar Rose Allegory
Jane Yolen, in her novel Briar Rose, has used an allegory of Briar Rose or Sleeping Beauty as a
metaphor to hide the real experiences and emotions suffered from the Holocaust during World War
Two. The development and techniques employed within the story are extremely effective for the use
of the allegory.
Yolen has used a number of techniques to assist in the use of the allegory. She has used the title Briar
Rose, Yolen has selected this specific title as it is another name for Sleeping Beauty, which is the basis
of the story which Gemma tells throughout the novel. She has also kept to the structure of a typical
fairy tale. She has done this to continue the allegory between the fairy tale and real life by the

to disguise the atrocities which occurred during the war when many countries where under the control
of the Nazi s. Yolen has included Josef s story to include a more in depth and factual account of the
experiences. He was also included into the novel, so that the reader also has a sense of satisfaction as

Once upon a time to create the meaning and feeling as if this is a fairy tale. She also ends the tale with
And they lived happily ever after . By using the traditional beginning and ending of a fairy tale, she
has kept in the theme of the two story, the fairy tale and the allegory which has used the story of

Oppression And Poverty In Bodega Dreams
ntro In the novel, Bodega Dreams there are many moments and times when the people of Spanish
Harlem experience the oppression against them during the 80 s. This novel focuses on the oppression,
crime and poverty affect the people who grew up in Spanish Harlem. East Harlem is usually known
for being a poor neighborhood. In much social science literature on the neighborhood, Spanish Harlem
is defined primarily by its poverty. (Martinez). Likewise, in the novel, there are also examples of
being poor and people struggling financially. Spanish Harlem needed a change and fast. Rents were

In the case of East Harlem, rising crime fears are accompanied by an obvious statistical explanation:
Countering trends in most of the city, crime there has increased drastically. Over the past year, it has
gone up by 17 percent, according to Police Department figures, with increases in rape, robbery and
felony assault, among other transgressions. (Bellafante) Both of these examples show that crime in
East Harlem is a common thing that is part of their daily life. Similarly, in Bodega Dreams there are
times when Chino notices crime taking place around him. Fires, junkies dying, shootouts, holdups,
babies falling out of windows were things you took as part of life. (5) Students who attend schools can
be affected by their culture, race and background, much like how Puerto Ricans were oppressed in
East Harlem in the 1980 s. This article explains how race can affect how people of certain races grow
up, and how they are treated, and how when this treatment is unfair, the students usually drop out of
school. Study examines how race, culture influence school discipline, dropout rates .

To What Extent Does Williams Portray Stanley as the Cause...
To what extent does Williams portray Stanley as the cause for Blanche s downfall?
A Street Car Named Desire is a play written by a Mississippi born writer called Tennessee Williams. A
Street Car Named Desire shows a reversal of fortune with Blanche having a life full of fortune with a
successful business and a happy marriage however it is all turned upside when all this fortune is
removed out of her life resulting in her seeking refuge with a lower class family her sister got married
into... this fits in with Aristotle s theory of tragedy because there is a reversal of fortune, bringing out
feelings of fright and sympathy to the audience. Blanche might have been a character created by
Williams using inspiration of his own life, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blanche always wore white clothes which Williams might have purposefully done this to show her
desire to be pure, to cleanse herself of her past.
It seems that Williams has made it seem that Stanley did not cause Blanches downfall to much extent
that he only sped up Blanche s decline as she was already on a decline, regardless of Stanley s added
affects. However it can be argued that although Blanche was on the verge of a downfall she would
have recovered as she had the strength to go to her sister for help. Yet it can be said that Stanley
stopped Blanche recovering and aided her downfall to continue. Williams shaped Stanley s character
as a dominant, prideful and somewhat possessive one... I believe that he is mainly sexually possessive
as once Blanche questioned Stella on why she loves Stanley she admitted that it was because, he
fulfils her sexual and sensual desires with a steady life. Remember what Huey Long said `Every Man
is a King! And I am the king around here, so don t forget it! Stanley was the dominant character
between him and Stella however, with the arrival of Blanche Williams disrupts their simple life;
Blanche criticizes his private life his character, his views and beliefs. Therefore Stanley turns against
her this could be argued the cause for Stanley to start breaking her down, wanting

The Between Socrates And Meno
Meno was a student of Gorgias, and he has a long discussion with Socrates about what virtue is.
Socrates and Meno wonder if virtue can be taught, Meno proposes that it may be a result of practice or
an inherent trait, but before they can answer that question they first need to agree on what virtue is.
Meno makes multiple attempts at a description of virtue and Socrates points out potential problems. A
definition of virtue is not settled, which leads to the discussion about the problem of learning. If
neither or them know what virtue is then how will they know if they find it. Plato describes this
ongoing discussion between Socrates and Meno.
Meno s first attempt at the description of virtue is listing examples. The health of a man is the same as
that of a woman, is virtue the same for both as well? Meno states that there are certain virtues for men,
like managing public affairs, helping friends, harming enemies, and protecting oneself. There are
different virtues for women, managing the home, protecting possessions, and being submissive to one
s husband. There are also different virtues for children, slaves, the elderly, and so on. The virtue of a
man consists of managing his city well while the virtue of a woman is managing her household well. It
is agreed that both of these things need to be managed moderately and justly. So both the men and
women need justice and moderation in order to achieve their virtue well. It is also decided that all men
are good in the same way,

INTENSIVE DRIVING LESSONS DEEDS
Intensive driving alludes to a guideline strategy in which students are instructed how to drive in a
short period of time. The typical driving lessons would take few weeks to mouths to finish; intensive

You had a driving lesson, yet there are still limitations that have been set for you. Spots where you are

How To Write A Rhetorical Analysis On Jane Goodall
The article on Jane Goodall accentuates a woman s struggle for her convictions against all odds. The
interview makes a good case of how a firm resolve and an unwavering determination for a cause can
take a person a long way.
Despite a lack of scientific academic education, Jane Goodall s work on the chimpanzees made
revolutionary breakthrough in the field of understanding chimpanzee behavior. It was all made
possible by her firm belief on her unconventional methods which academics in the field eyed with
cynicism and felt was pointless. Such pessimistic outlook on her efforts from established academics
did not blight her morale; instead she carried on with her methods of analyzing the chimpanzee
population with full enthusiasm and self belief.

The Learning Theory Influences Everyone s Culture,...
The Learning Theory influences everyone s culture, ethnicity, gender, and social status, by being from
different geographical location and religious background everyone has a unique characteristic, when it
comes to learning or problem solving. One of the most important events in a human s life is the
Learning Theory . This process takes place from the minute we are born. Information is taken in and

process which includes ones environment, past experiences, and one s emotion which all play a
rewarding understanding on how ones sees the world and retain information around them. B. F.
Skinner, who developed the ideas of respondent behavior (that which is brought about by a specific
stimulus and can be conditioned) and operant behavior (that which produces consequences that tend to
be repeated when reinforced and discontinued when not reinforced). Many different practice models
have developed from the theories of the behaviorists, who operate by setting up controlled situations
in which behavior can be conditioned and reinforced. These models are widely used in teaching, in
treating problems of human relationships, and in working with personal problems that lead to
destructive behaviors. As behavior modification develops, certain features are assuming greater
importance. One is the detailed specification of objectives with the possibility of sub goals that serve

Chemicals and Pesticides Found in the Great Lakes Essay
The chemicals found in water can be dangerous toward our health. We live near the Great Lakes

Poop Digestion Essay
Chapter 4 Building a Better Poop Digester
Countries such as the U.S. have the resources to build elaborate biogas systems, including syngas

Landfills are the third largest source of human related methane emissions in the United States,
according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Biogas from landfills is also called
landfill gas (LFG), as the digestion process takes place in the ground rather than in an anaerobic
digester. As of March 2015, there were about 645 operational LFG projects in the United States,
according to EPA. However, most of these projects use biogas to produce electricity rather than power
natural gas vehicles.
Creative use of landfill gas (LFG) includes heating greenhouses, producing electricity and heat in
cogeneration applications, firing brick kilns, supplying high Btu pipeline quality gas, fueling garbage
trucks, and providing fuel to chemical and automobile manufacturing. Projects range from small scale
community driven initiatives to multi million dollar private investments.

Teens And Teen Pregnancy
As us females were young we all seem to become mothers, by playing with dolls, and playing house
with others our age. It may be easy for us to say that as children we thought they needed some
assistance, but in reality that was only our imagination. As little kids did we really think about what it
would be like to really have a baby? We were children, but see the thing here is that teens are still
children who are having other children. 16 year olds do not just wake up thinking they want to have a
baby, most of the time it just happens without being planned. Teens often do not think about what life
would be like as a parent which is easy to happen and we should be informed on the reasons why and
what it really is like. The first reason why a girl can easily get pregnant is not being informed about
contraceptives. There are about 1,700 school based health centers nationwide in which about ⅓
provide contraceptives. Sexual education is very important when it comes to this, there are states that
still require parents to sign off their children receiving any sexual education in schools, in which many
of the cases the parents and their kids are too embarrassed to talk about. Although it is the parent s
responsibility to talk about it, they do not. When a teen is sexually active, it is important for them to
let a parent know, so that they can get checked. Another possible reason can be unwanted sex.

Dr Strangelove Themes
The Cold War was a period from 1947 to 1991 that adhered erratic tension and constant threat of
nuclear conflict between the two remaining superpowers that emerged from WWII, the U.S. and the
Soviet Union. The 1964 film Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the
Bomb, directed by Stanley Kubrick, depicts the overlying themes of the Cold War in a comedic
fashion. This film s full embodiment of the Cold War is seen through its representation of the time
period, and the sheer competitiveness between the United States and Russia. Additionally, due to
many of Kubrick s movie decisions, the film has helped society acknowledge and understand the pure
absurdity that the topic of nuclear destruction holds. In Dr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

General alone goes rogue and sends the missiles toward Russia. This puts the U.S. President in an
immensely tight scenario.
The film delves into some of the difficult options leaders have to choose from in cases involving
nuclear weapons. Nuclear conflicts are extraordinarily complex, with many potential unpredictable
outcomes. After General Ripper directs his plane to bomb the enemy, he describes his thought process
to one of his officers, ...when [the president s advisors] realize there is no possibility in recalling the
wing there will be only one course of action: open, total commitment . Here, a total commitment
consists of the U.S. supporting General Ripper s plan by utilizing their full arsenal of nuclear weapons
to attack Russia. General Buck Turgidson, one of the President s top advisors, echoes this exact idea in
the war room and proposes to the U.S. President a full commitment. This was a possible solution that
could have neutralized all of Russia in one wave of nuclear missiles; however, this strategy is frowned
upon and dismissed by the President as it would reflect poorly on the U.S. diplomatic reputation in the
long run.
An aspect of the Cold War that Kubrick focuses on is the blatant lack of trust between the conflicting
nations. In a scene where a Russian Ambassador is being brought into the war room by the U.S.
President to help determine a mutual solution,

  • 2. The Aspects Of The Moral Tales In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales In the General Prologue of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the Host instructs the pilgrims to tell Tales of best sentence and moost solaas (GP 798). In other words, in order to win the contest, the pilgrims must tell stories which both impart serious meaning/wisdom ( sentence ) as well as entertainment ( solaas ). While the pilgrims all achieve these two goals to varying degrees, The Pardoner s Tale seems at first to succeed very well in providing both moral teaching and entertainment. However, while his tale effortlessly satisfies the solaas requirement, the Pardoner cannot truly provide the sentence he aims for, as his lesson degrades into hypocrisy and he lacks the respect from the other pilgrims necessary to afford his tale the impact he intends. The Pardoner s Tale, an exemplum intended to demonstrate the phrase radix malorum est cupiditas (greed is the root of all evil), tells of three riotoures (degenerates) who wish to find and kill Death. (Pard 334, 463). A mysterious old man tells them that Death resides underneath a nearby tree, under which the three men find a sack of gold instead. However the men do indeed find Death underneath the tree, as they end up killing each other due to their own greed. This tale easily satisfies the solaas requirement in its entertainment value. Firstly, the tale contains elements of mystery which make it interesting. For example, the old man that points the three men to their demise is both enigmatically old and inexplicably ... • 3. Increase in the Unemployment Rates in the U.K. The UK s unemployment rate reached its highest peak in 2011 at just under 2.7 million during the recent recession which economists are calling the Great Recession (BBC News, 2014). Since, however the fall in the rate of unemployment has not been as sharp as many predicted, concerns have been raised over whether unemployment levels in this single period may have a long lasting effect. The issue of hysteresis within the UK and the persistence of unemployment is what this paper will focus on, as well as the reasons why the youth unemployment rate is much higher. Using the Demand deficient theory of unemployment, which is the Keynesian view of unemployment that suggest high real wages cause long term unemployment, I will examine whether this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another industry that has shown signs of employment growth during this hard time is the accommodation and food services industry. Which, outside of London, has seen a 4.8% increase in employment. This could be due to employees from other industries simply switching careers, which opposes the view of this model that skills diminish or are not transferrable between sectors of the economy (ONS, 2014). On the other hand this rise in employment could simply be due to the UK s flexible labour market. Another industry that has experienced a downwards growth trend is the mining and quarrying industry. There has been a dramatic reduction in growth, as between the periods of early 2011 and the final quarter of 2013 the industry has been 35.2% below its pre recession peak. However this industry decline has been slowly happening since 1999, this consequently could be a contributing factor to the issue of hysteresis as this is the second largest sub industry of total production within the UK (ONS, 2013). This fits within the assumptions of the model of structural unemployment as the decline in the industry has clearly led to higher levels of unemployment. The long term decline of such a large industry can often lead to long term unemployment, such as we saw in the coal industry, which is a common cause of hysteresis. However this alone cannot be blamed for hysteresis. Blanchard and Summers wrote about three reasons for hysteresis and unemployment persistence, one more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Woman Of Algiers Essay The woman of Algiers was a group of North African woman who inspired Delacroix to paint a portrait of them during his voyage to North Africa. His painting was a great work of art that gave us the perfect synthesis between romanticism and classicism and let us view the woman in their relaxed state in the Muslim Haram. Now Eugene Delacroix wasn t the only one to paint the woman of Algiers, although he was the creator of the original painting. Pablo Picasso was another influential painter who was inspired by the painting Delacroix did of the women and decided to create his own unique version. Both the paintings are well known and of the same scene but have unique characteristics to make them their own. This essay will go through some of the similarities ... Delacroix was fortunate enough to meet a man named Victor Poirel who owned a private harem and so he was granted his wish to enter and stay for some time and was even given permission to paint several watercolor sketches. These sketches like mentioned before were painted in morocco, a country in Northern Africa in 1834. It wasn t made specifically for any one person but was merely a representation of a lifestyle that was vastly different from the French. Delacroix seemed to be refreshed by the culture that Morocco presented; from the brightly colored, flowing costumes, the Arabs and their women, and the enchanting horses all of these seemed to captivate the artist which inspired this work and many of Delacroix other pieces. From these sketches Delacroix painted Women of Algiers in their apartment upon his return home and aimed to convey its serenity and sacredness to the outside world. In the painting we can see four women, three of a lighter complexion and one of a darker complexion. They seem to be in a relaxed state with their legs crossed and arms rested. • 5. The Chernobyl Disaster Progress often drives society toward betterment as a whole and its importance is often emphasized by those who wish to improve the lives of everyday citizens. However, the pursuit of progress can and has had negative consequences, and some of those byproducts have devastated and destroyed lives. A clear example of the dangers of progress is evident when one takes a retrospective glance at the Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster. Gerd Ludwig, a photographer interested in documenting the remains of Chernobyl and the nearby city of Pripyat, magnificently captures the decaying and empty remains of a school library. Once a center of education filled with the faces of children, the Chernobyl disaster resulted in the abandonment of this building. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The absence of students in a place in which children once visited as a part of their daily lives also paints a bleak picture of the potential dangers of progress, and this is evident in the image. This school library that was once regularly visited by children, teachers, and other individuals is now uninhabitable due to the effects of the Chernobyl disaster. People are not present in the photograph, and judging by the deteriorating state in which the school library exists, the building appears to have been abandoned for quite some time. Instead of housing children who are in the pursuit of knowledge, this place that was once a center of education for the Ukrainian youth now only holds the weathered yellow pages of rotting books and fallen bookshelves. In addition to being devoid of life, the objects of the library themselves depict a vacuum of human presence. For instance, there a desk present in the photograph that is closer to the photographer than the bookcases, and this desk is deteriorating and buried in books. This implies that the desk has not been used by a human being in a very long time, since a student would need to clear the desk of books in order to easily make use of it. Likewise, the layers of books littering the ground also suggest that the building is abandoned for a lengthy period of time, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Kelley Outbreak The Kelly outbreak is a famous phenomenon in Australia s colonial history. Whilst some people prefer to see the outbreak as a simple criminal incident between an outlaw and the police, most historians view it as a broader sociological phenomenon, involving conflict between a larger rural community and the colonial authorities. An important issue for historians has been to understand the underlying causes of this criminal outbreak, whether it was mainly due to personal, ethnic or socio economic factors. This essay will critically examine each of these explanations and argue that the actions of the Kellys and their supporters, and the reactions of the police can best be understood in terms of broad socio economic developments in rural ... Evidence from the period strongly supports such a view. The region was first occupied by squatters during the late 1830s and 1840s, and was largely settled by 1847. By 1850, several villages were established, there were good seasons and high wool prices .... 14 Between 1860 and 1880 several land reform laws were introduced, intended to halt the monopoly of the squatters by creating a new rural class from the diggers now experiencing diminishing returns on the goldfields. These laws made available small freeholds of pastoral land for selection by any man or (single) woman over the age of eighteen.... 15 This effort to make land available to the new rural classes proved a failure however. The government s and the selectors knowledge of agriculture, shaped by the European experience, proved largely to be inapplicable to Australia .. 16 In addition, selection was opposed and obstructed by the squatters who used their superior knowledge of land conditions, political and financial influence, and evasion of certain regulations of the Land Acts to amass large holdings of premium land, leaving poorer land to selectors. ... 17 This situation caused hardship and poverty among selectors, and stock theft became an increasing problem as the selectors sought to supplement meagre food supplies and income with stock stolen ... • 8. France s Role in World War II Vichy Regime France s role in World War II is one that has become the discussion of much modern debate. France was, ostensibly, an enemy of Germany for the early part of World War II, and, as such, stood in opposition to Germany s Nazi regime, resisted Nazi occupation, and had a very active resistance to the Nazis. However, the view of France as an occupied country that was victimized by the Nazis is an overly simplistic view. France was not merely a victim of the Nazi occupation, but an active participant in the anti Semitic behavior that drove much of Nazi era German political thought. The Vichy Regime refers to the French government during the period from July 1940 to August 1944, after France s military defeat by Germany. It was a French government that differed significantly from governments before it; Mashal Philippe Pétain took power as President of the Council, not President of France. Under Pétain, France cooperated with Nazi Germany. While Pétain was the President of the Council, Charles de Gaulle could be considered the leader of non Vichy France, and headed France after France was liberated in World War II. However, the impact of the Vichy Regime did not end with the Allies recognition of the Provisional Government of the French Republic (GPRF) in October 23, 1944. The destruction of the Vel d Hiv in 1959, under de Gualle s leadership, provided evidence of France s complicity with the Nazis in World War II. France s silence about the Vel d Hiv Roundup for ... Essay On Containerized Shipping Final Paper Maritime Terrorist Attacks via Containerized Shipping Christopher Welch Author Note This paper was prepared for Operations Management 5993, taught by Dr. Livingston Executive Summary There is a growing concern over the vulnerabilities of port security and the possible exploitation of these vulnerabilities by a terrorist organization; specifically, the use of containerized shipping. The vastness of the process of maritime operations alone creates a large opportunity for vulnerability, but add to it the different regulation requirements by all the different countries involved in the global market and there is a large difference in protection standards and the execution of them. This paper will explore the possibilities of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main agenda of Maritime security is protection of our National ports. By preventing smuggling, as well as, other threat scenarios like a ship being used as a collision weapon or transportation of Weapons of Mass Destruction. An estimated $4 trillion worth of the worlds goods are moved by see, this is roughly 80 percent of global freight and it is accomplished in the form of cargo that is transshipped. This demonstrates the shear overwhelming size of the task of tracking and inspecting all of the containers that travel to and from the United States. For all parties involved in enforcing the security measures, there is a constant battle, over executing the requirements and how much time it takes. Because most shipping companies work on a last minute deliver type system, which allows for the lowest cost of the shipping, there is really no time allocated for mistakes or inspections. So, the delay in deliver can cost millions of dollars for U.S. economy. Risk Analysis Assessment When considering the risk of maritime shipping be utilized to deliver a WMD, chemical weapon or the parts to create one, a solid assessment of the probability of it happening and impact if it happened needs to be completed. The probability of this type of attack is low, but the impact of it, if it happened, would be catastrophic in terms of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For over twenty four years Dr. Marie Hobart has been an employee of Community Healthlink as a psychiatrist and for the last ten to twelve years as the Chief Medical Officer of CHL. She is also an employee of UMasss Memorial Healthcare, and a clinical associate professor of psychiatry. Dr. Hobart s work with CHL focuses on people with serious and persistent illness, developmental disabilities, and addiction and her goal in addition to helping patients one on one is to help create a system of care for people who are traditionally not able to access care in other ways (Hobart). Dr. Hobart explained that she always wanted to work in health, and working with people in the community leading her to become a public psychiatrist in the city of Worcester, Massachusetts. The Free Dictionary defines a stereotype as a simplified and standardized conception or image invested with special meaning and held in common by members of a group (Stereotype). Although many people may not realize it, stereotypes influence how they interact with others each day. People judge others because of their race, ethnicity, religion, and heritage before they even know the person. These judgements come from stereotypes they encounter in their lives. There are plenty of news stories, movies, and television shows that portray these stereotypes. If there were none of these jokes on the air or if news anchors told more positive stories about Muslims and Arabs, this cultural group would have an easier time in society (TEDxYouth). Overall, Family Guy and other media outlets portray Muslims and Arabs as terrorists, and it makes people afraid of them because of the stereotype. In addition, another stereotype Family Guy likes to make fun of is people of Asian heritage. Seth McFarland has written a lot of episodes in which he uses many Asian stereotypes. For instance, in one episode, he has Peter take an Asian student to the SAT to use as his calculator on the test, as he tells the student to do math (Family Guy Season 5 Episode 3). Although this might seem like a positive stereotype for Asians, this can also negatively impact them. There has been studies that have shown that Asian people feel offended by this stereotype. Dr. Art Markman did a study in which he had an Asian and a white participant in a room. It is important to note that in the study, the white person was actually one of the experimenters posing as a participant (Markman). Socrates and Meno wonder if virtue can be taught, Meno proposes that it may be a result of practice or an inherent trait, but before they can answer that question they first need to agree on what virtue is. Meno makes multiple attempts at a description of virtue and Socrates points out potential problems. A definition of virtue is not settled, which leads to the discussion about the problem of learning. If neither or them know what virtue is then how will they know if they find it. Plato describes this ongoing discussion between Socrates and Meno. Meno s first attempt at the description of virtue is listing examples. The health of a man is the same as that of a woman, is virtue the same for both as well? Meno states that there are certain virtues for men, like managing public affairs, helping friends, harming enemies, and protecting oneself. There are different virtues for women, managing the home, protecting possessions, and being submissive to one s husband. There are also different virtues for children, slaves, the elderly, and so on. The virtue of a man consists of managing his city well while the virtue of a woman is managing her household well. It is agreed that both of these things need to be managed moderately and justly.
