Persuasive Essay For Dog Park
Dog parks are a staple of urban and suburban areas, a place where dog owners can congregate and
converse about the local gossip, or goings on about the neighborhood. Over the past 12 months, a
group of people have come together to propose allocating land for a dog park in Weston and tensions
are running high.
Surprisingly, the dog park has met with a strong degree of controversy. For the better part of the last
year, there have been multiple hearings involving the dog park. The latest meeting occurred just last
week and there is still no resolution about how to proceed.
Maria Proto, a long time Weston resident started the campaign for the dog park. She has a lot to say.
When I spoke to her last week, she said, One of the benefits that a lot of people don t realize when
they don t go to dog parks regularly is that it is not just socialization for your animals. So that s one of
the benefits for your animals get socialized well and well socialized dogs are usually less aggressive
towards other dogs but is also a way for people to go out and meet each other ... I would love to meet
my fellow Westonites who have dogs. I have also been told by some people that it is very hard to meet
people in our town because there aren t many events in Weston to go to.
While many residents are in support of the formation of the park, there are many people on the other
side. Just ask Bill Theriault. He is worried that if Weston puts money to this dog park it will take
money away for many

Methods of Evangelism
Part ONE Evangelistic Method #1
Of the two evangelistic intellectual methods, I have chosen to research the Four Spiritual Laws. Bill
Bright wrote, Just as there are physical laws that govern how the physical universe, so are there
spiritual laws that govern your relationship with God. This method is most used in presenting the
Gospel to someone because it is simpler. Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ,
originally wrote this as a booklet. This booklet was designed to help individuals to be more effectual
in their witness for Jesus. The Four Spiritual Laws are used to convict, convince, and convert. The
Laws are as followed:
Law 1: God ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is the most effective way of winning souls. This method should be used on people, whom one
interact with the most, people who know someone and see them on a regular basis. Lifestyle
evangelism creates a nurturing environment to extend an invitation to Christ. This means an
unbeliever will feel a sense of belonging before becoming a believer. Research has shown that a non
believer would be likely to give a believer the opportunity to share their faith, when the believer s life
has proven that their words are sincere, and life altering. In this way, the non believer would feel a
sense of worth before they expose themselves to the Inspired Word.
There are some advantages to using the Lifestyle Relational method. In particular, the Father sent
Jesus to be the absolute light, to be an example, and demonstrate how people of God should live. We
should be living proof that Our Father is who he says he is; that Christ truly is the Son who freed
people from slavery to self; and that the Holy Spirit honestly can transform our life. This is truly an
advantage affirmation. This example of showing is not a substitute for telling. If words were all we
used to explain the gospel, then people would never understand it enough to submit to Jesus.
However, showing a person is a necessary preparation for telling. People will always buy into your
words when your actions back them up. We must live a life that

The Greatest Generation Of The World War II Essay
Many of the Greatest Generations core values have been challenged by later generations due to
changes in the economy, politics, war, social equality, technology, and the family structure. The
Greatest Generation, a name that journalist Tom Brokaw popularized, refers to the generation that
grew up during the Great Depression, served during World War II, and then worked hard and
prospered after the War. The Greatest Generation believed in following rules and not questioning
authority, focusing on the nuclear family, being patriotic, working hard, saving money and owning a
house. These tenets have evolved during the last fifty years for better and for worse. The traditional
values of the Greatest Generation taught them to respect law and order, follow the rules, and be
patriotic. That generation did not question the reasons behind fighting in World War II. During that
time, Americans sacrificed everything, from sugar to death of loved ones, all in the name of patriotism
and America being the greatest power in the World. Supporting America s war went from becoming a
duty to optional in later generations. Observing the casualties of war and questioning the reason for
entering war, later generations challenged the United States military presence in Vietnam, Iraq, and
Afghanistan. The Greatest Generation also did not challenge racism, as the Baby Boomers did that
were born after World War II. The Baby Boomers protested, peacefully and violently, to bring about

U.S. Foreign Policy Essay
Throughout the course of history, the United States has remained consistent with its national interest
by taking many different actions in foreign policy. There have been both immediate and long term
results of these actions. Foreign policy is the United States policy that defines how we deal with other
countries economically and politically. It is made by congress, the president, and the people. Some of
the motivations for United States foreign policy are national security, economics, and idealism. The
United States entry into World War I in 1917 and the escalation of the Vietnam War in 1964 and the
both had great impact on the United States.
A major type of foreign policy in the 1964 was containment. The Vietnam War was fought ... Show

The goals of this foreign policy was to end communism containment while starting democracies. For
the United States, the war ended in the withdrawal of American troops and the failure of its foreign
policy in Vietnam.
Another major foreign policy action was the entry to World War I. On August 4, 1914 there was an
outbreak in Europe. A war started between the central powers and the allied powers. The central
powers consisted of Germany, Austria Hungry, and the Ottoman Empire. They were also known as the
Triple Alliance. The Allied Powers, also know as the Triple Entente consisted of Britain, France, and
Russia. An immediate cause of the war was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914.
Some long term causes that started the war were militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism.
America tried to keep themselves isolated from the war in Europe. Before the war, America had an
idea of neutrality. Neutrality is when American lives and property is not threatened. There was great
ethnic diversity in the United States which led to a public union about war. The United States also had
the idea of freedom of the seas. This meant the routes for trading were open. The United States had the
desire to trade with both the central and the allied powers. The United States had a great economic
interest in the war at this time. There were many different

The Gaze
Today s audience is one of laziness. The majority of content consumers are not programed to digest
what they watch with a critical eye. While there is no real harm in this, there is room for change and
experimental media has been trying to provoke that change for decades. Bertolt Brecht s theory and
practice of alienation, or v effect, has been pulling audiences out of their comfort zone for a long time
through many different types of art and entertainment. Another topic of discussion is The Gaze ;
usually seen through the male s eye. Again, it is not harmful, but that is because it has been engrained
in the modern audience s brain that it is okay to view woman the way entertainment says is okay.
While they are two very different themes, alienation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mainstream cinema (and culture) reinforces how we are to look at women (as objects, as passive, as
without agency, unworthy of our existential attention) (Week 8 Slides). While there is nothing wrong
with admiring the female form, it does raise some questions about how easily susceptible audiences
are to media. When the audience has ...come to accept the sexist tropes and codes of mainstream
Hollywood cinema as natural, inevitable and beyond reproach... (Week 8 Slides), there is a problem.
The Gaze started early on in cinema and has continued to be practiced in films even to today, if not
more so today. One film in particular that sparked controversy was Michael Powell s 1960 film
Peeping Tom . The film is about a serial killer who films his victims as they are murdered. This film
ended up being banned in many places around the world and was seen as one of the worst films. A few
years later, Martin Scorsese brought the movie back into the light and is now seen as one of the
greatest cult films ever made. The reason behind why it shifted from being appaling to being amazing,
relies on the audience. Nothing about the film has changed over the years, but the opinion of it has.
How can this be? It has to do with the audience s reaction and perception of the content. In 1960,
audiences brains weren t trained to fetishize woman like they are in today s modern films. The
voyeuristic nature of the film

Personal Response For The Book Thief
The Book Thief I believe that the theme of the book thief is the power of words. I chose this theme
specifically because one, it was the theme that was repeated in the book and two, because without
words there wouldn t be a story. For example, Lisle learning how to read and define words with her
father made them have a closer relationship. From there, I believe is where the usage of words began
to have a big impact to the plot. Knowing how to read not only allowed Liesel to read her first stolen
book but it gave her additional desire to steal other books. Words introduce Liesel to Ilsa Hermann.
They became close as well, giving Liesel more variety to the collection of her stolen books. Towards
the end of the story, Ilsa gave Liesel a journal which saved her life. If it wasn t for the ... Show more

Liesel is an incredibly strong and brave person who tries hard every day to live a happy life instead of
being mournful from the losses of, Her mother. Her brother. Max Vandenburg. Hans Hubermann. All

Max, the Jew in their basement, thirteen gifts and hope that he would wake up and share them with
her. Meminger s heroic traits allowed Max to have shelter, for Jews who passed by when being sent to
the concentration camps to get an extra piece of bread, and was able to bring peace to the people of
Hamilton Street in a basement during a raid with her reading. Meminger wanted to learn things,
leading to curiosity for example, when Liesel came down she found the book sitting next to him,
slanted against his thigh, and curiosity got the best of her (Zusak 278). Liesel s way of seeing the
world I believe is that words have an enormous amount of impact on humans, which can be used for
bad and good. The bad use of words led to hatred and war while using words wisely can help humans

Internet Security Metrics
Security Metrics
As the Internet becomes ubiquitous due to wireless technologies including 3G and pervasive Wi Fi
Hotspots, there is the need to continually improve security technologies. One of the most effective
approaches to doing this is to define a series of metrics for measuring security levels attained (Idika,
Bhargava, 2012). The following is a listing of security metrics and their definitions:
In the area of Incident Management the following metrics apply:
Mean Cost per Incident This the average cost per security incident from a dollars and time
perspective. The cost per incident is often measured in terms of opportunity cost of how the time
could have been invested in other tasks instead of solving the security incident (Shari, 2009).
Mean Time Between Security Incidents This is the aggregated measurement of how much time
elapses between security incidents over a given time period. The mean time between security incidents
is often measured in monthly increments and charted to compare the impact of security strategies over
time (Wang, Guo, Wang, Zhou, 2012).
Number of Incidents a very fundamental measure of security that all security platforms, even those
available for free via vendors websites, report. This is the baseline of many security programs and
measurement platforms today. This figure is often tracked over years to determine how well
investment sin security pay off over time as well.
In the area of Vulnerability Management the following are the

Lolita Essay
De victimizing Lolita: Removing Emotion from the Classroom
Abstract: This paper focuses on Vladimir Nabokov s novel Lolita. Specifically the argument discusses
the need for reform within the classroom setting regarding student reaction and interpretation to the
text. Class discussion involving Lolita tends to fall under a blanket of socially constructed
presumptions that lend the discussion toward a shallow and judgmental reading of the text, and this
tendency limits the discussion. This paper argues that, for a teacher attempting to teach this novel, it is
important to limit the amount of emotionally reactionary responses and guide the class towards a more
allegorical or symbolic representation of the text. This paper is intended for ... Show more content on

However, when I found myself again discussing Lolita with this same narrow approach in my
graduate class, I began to wonder if the majority of readers only focused on Humbert Humbert s
transgressions. Had the rest of the world missed the point? Could no one recognize the genius behind
the monster? Is it possible for the average reader to grasp the ironic intentions of the author, or is
Lolita forever overshadowed by the reader s need to judge and dismiss?
Too often Lolita is read from only one perspective, the perspective of monstrosity. Nabokov the
pornographer threatened to expose and corrupt others, particularly children, through the publication of
a novel about unnatural desire (Whiting 835). The tendency is for the average reader to become
entangled in a moral debate, to take opposition to the seemingly criminal and amoral acts of the
narrator, to condemn him for his blatant and grotesque sin. This surface analysis of the text was
prevalent at the time of publication, delaying the release of the novel in the United States by three
years. Most reviews of the novel [Lolita] dealt with the narrow issue of its alleged obscenity. The
novel was published three years earlier in France because Nabokov could not find an American
publisher ready to risk publishing it (Tamir Ghez 65). Critical theory since this time has uncovered
multiple layers of interpretation that offer much more meaningful analysis of the novel

Indeed, employee empowerment is a well known tool for retaining employees, boosting operation
productivity and recovering customer services. Improper use of empowerment can also impact
negatively on such things as employees poor decision making 3
and management s fear of giving up control. However, employee empowerment has more positive
impacts on the front desk operations and this paper will suggest how to overcome those negative
aspects by showing the best practices used in hotel operations. Constraints One of the main constraints
in this study is the limited access to certain research materials that might be relevant to certain aspects
of the importance of empowering employees at front desk operations. All of the research will be based
on interviews with hotel professionals in successful resorts located in Las Vegas and the use of
published literature. Glossary Empowerment Empowerment is an idea which includes many
disciplines and areas of study such as economics, community development, education, psychology,
and studies of social movements and organizations, among others. According to the definition of The
World Bank, empowerment is providing individuals or groups with enough knowledge to allow them
to make educated choices so that the result of those choices leads to responsible decision making.

Racial Bias in the United States due to Mass Media Essay
The United States of America has been called a mixing pot since the birth of the nation. Everyone,
especially politicians and educators, will proudly declare that the U.S. is a land of unmatched
diversity. The U.S. seems to always be portrayed as a highly cultural territory, harboring a vast
population of many races. Admittedly, the United States has come a long in terms of eliminating racial
barriers and pursuing equality. All around the world, America is seen as a country of colors, yet mass
media does not recognize that fact. Racial bias is a prevalent trend in today s media, and white people
are favored in comparison to any other race. Seemingly every aspect of mass media is soaked in bias.
Oftentimes, this leaves out minorities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Merriam Webster fully defines racism as a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits
and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race . In his
article, Balkaran points out that racial discourse can be inferred to be aversive, academic, scientific,
legalistic, bureaucratic, economic, cultural, linguistic, religion, mythical, or ideological. He states that
racial discourse and expressions have been prevalent towards African Americans. Race matters exist
in different places and at different times under widely varying conditions, he writes. This pushes into
the understanding of racism in the history of the United States. Society has been significantly
revolutionized since the beginnings of the United States. The very history of the country has been
cursed with racism and the harsh oppression of minorities. In fact, America s power and economy
were founded on a Marxist theory of a two class system. On the top of that system were the slave
owners, and at the very bottom were the slaves themselves (Balkaran, 1999). Slavery and segregation
used to be huge components in the lives of Americans. During those times, Americans were white,
landowning men; obviously that principle has been altered a great deal. People of color, women, and
the poor actually have been given suffrage by amendments in the Constitution. Although the United

Suspense In Stephen King
Most readers identify Stephen King s works as horror, however he sees them as suspense novels
(citation needed). Stephen King is often associated with the horror genre because of his excessive use
of gore in his novels. However, gore is merely a side agenda that helps King shape his ideas. Instead,
King s main goal is to create suspense. By creating a vivid image of the impact of a murder, rape, or
other catastrophe he is able to foster his goal by unnerving his reader and creating a conflict. Stephen
King s extensive and creative use of detail and literary elements in his novels assists the motive for the
conflict between good and evil, constructs a complete depiction of the supernatural and reality, and
builds an ongoing sense of tension. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, King writes Big Jim dropped the ball to his side. His shoulder was throbbing. Now
blood was pouring onto the carpet, and still the son of a buck [Coggins, priest] wouldn t go down; still
he came forward, trying to talk and spitting scarlet in a fine spray (King 292). First, this example
shows the great detail he goes into when describing a murder. Second, this quote shows how he used
the detail to magnify the evil in Big Jim. Most importantly, it sets up the story for Big Jim to frame
Barbie, the good guy, for the murder of Coggins and three others. Lucky for Jim, people trust him
because he has been in Chester s Mill longer than Barbie. Sadly, this means Barbie s friends have to
come together to destroy the corruption set up by Big Jim. Thus, this detail sets up the battle between
good and evil. Consistently, King uses this method to shape the consequence of a

It Follows Film Analysis
The films, American Movie and It Follows, offers different aesthetics, because the two movies are
implementing a different message and want to be perceived differently to the viewers. American
Movie displays aesthetics of realism, such as direct addresses to the camera, on camera interviews,
real mise en scene, and real people. It Follows is a more typical film that displays aesthetics of
formalism such as expressive sound, expressive cinematography, expressive mise en scene, and
performance capture. These two films are on completely different ends of the film spectrum, since one
is fictional horror film and the other is a non fiction documentary, so they differ in the aesthetics they

The Battle of Rsebud Creek Essay
Introduction
The Indians that had fought General Custer had actually fought a battle against an even larger
American Army Force only 10 days earlier. In mid June of 1876 General George Crook and
approximately 1325 American soldiers, packers, miners and Indian allies moved north1. The intent
was to get contingents of the Cheyenne, Sioux and Arapaho to move to reservations.
History
Gold had been discovered in the Black Hills of the Dakotas, and the American military intended to
take it by force after a failed treaty negotiation. Crook had moved north from Fort Fetterman camp
near present day Douglas Wyoming area, along rosebud creek, north into Montana territory. Crook s
column was 1 of 3 sent out in the summer of 1876 to try and get ... Show more content on

4 During the move to the north it was discovered that the notorious character Calamity Jane had
accidentally been employed as one of the wagon teamsters, being a female, she was not allowed in the
column. However this brought a much needed division of attention from the monotone march. On
June 9th 1876, an unknown amount of Sioux and Cheyenne Indians attacked General Crooks camp.
The skirmish was remarkably short, Crook having sent a battalion of Cavalry to quickly dispatch the
Indians that had taken high ground on them, and were firing down into the camp. Along the way the
column received the Shoshone and Crow allies which only numbered approximately 170, but was
regarded as having the strength of an entire regiment.5
Execution/Action
On June 17, 1876 Crook and his column rose at 3am and set out at 6 am. John F. Finerty gives an
account of the surroundings: At about 8 o clock, we halted in a valley, very similar in the formation to
the one in which we had pitched our camp the preceding night. Rosebud stream, indicated by the thick
growth of wild roses, or sweet briar, from which its name is derived, flowed sluggishly through it,
dividing it from south to north into two almost equal parts. The hills seem to rise on every side, and
we were within easy musket shot of those most remote. 6 General Crook then paused his command for
an early lunch in the Rosebud

Eliza Haywood Fantomina
Literature Response to Fantomina by (Eliza Haywood) The Age of Enlightenment is a very vital part
in human history. This time period was one of a new found understanding. Many women accepted
society for what it was and depended on men for guidance. Some would say a person who isn t
enlightened has characteristics of a child. Most men had the freedom to do as they pleased. Eliza
Haywood shows many hardships faced by women during this time period. In the story Fantomina she
battles the stereotype of women being dependent, A young lady of distinguished birth, beauty, wit, and
spirit (Haywood, 569). She showed that not only men could become Enlightened, women could also
be Enlightened. This is a true display of female authority. In every

bacteriophages infect or kill pathogenic bacteria upon encounter with them. In 1915, Frederick Twort

which creates false impressions and misleads a consumer acting reasonably, and trade puffing, which
is exaggerated praise of the product (e.g., Almost Home cookies are the moistest, chewiest, most

Sulfate And Hydrate Lab Report
Introduction In this lab hydrates and anhydrous material were used to discover percent loss of copper
(II) sulfate pentahydrate and mass loss in anhydrous calcium chloride. Hydrates are chemical
compounds that have a discrete water molecules that are part of the compounds crystalline structure.
Anhydrous compounds have crystalline structures containing no water. In this experiment, copper (II)
sulfate pentahydrate was heated and loss mass, while the anhydrous calcium gained mass. When
heated, hydrates break bond with water and the water is released into the atmosphere. Once the water
in the hydrate has thoroughly evaporated, it becomes anhydrous. Purpose The purpose of this lab was
to calculate the percent of water mass the copper (II) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate was heated the hydrate loss 35.16% of water. The hydrate
should have loss 36.08% of water after it was heated. The anhydrous calcium chloride became
hydrated after it gained .64% of water. As a result of the loss of 35.16% of water from the copper
sulfate pentahydrate, the anhydrous calcium chloride should have gained a higher percent of water
from the atmosphere than .64%. Evaluation: The percent error in the experiment was 2.61%. The
percent is low because most of the water in the crystals had been driven off. A lower percent error
could have occurred if the CuSO4 * 5H2O was heated more. Suggested Improvements: When the lab
experiment was conducted, the copper sulfate pentahydrate was placed inside the casserole. If the
casserole was heated before the hydrate was place in it, then the water that might have been in the
casserole prior to the sample being added would not be included in the hydrate. Since the casserole
was not heated, the result may have been of a higher mass of water being loss. Another improvement
that could be made to this experiment, could be increasing the sample size to an average

Analysis Of Anne Tyler s Teenage Wasteland
There is a quote from the Chopin story, Story of an Hour , that is quite profound. It says There would
be no powerful will bending hers in that blind persistence with which men and women believe they
have the right to impose a private will upon a fellow creature .
When people do not have family or children, the decisions they make are for selfish reasons only.
Once a person has a child or a spouse, they begin to live for them. That person become unselfish and
makes decisions because of them. Their drive becomes stronger. There is no force that will override a
person s will to exercise their freedom.

people are deciding who they are and who they want to be. They also feel as if they should take

school was not for him. He was cutting class and getting in trouble. Daisy took it upon herself to make

Personal Narrative-Changing Experience With Soccer
I ve been playing soccer a long time, longer than i remember. My dad says i ve played since I was

The team wasn t hopeless, for a c team. most of our players had played soccer before, usually in the
same recreational leagues I grew up in. we were about average better than some, worse than some but
we managed to stay on track for a winning season, more than the JV and Varsity teams could say.

Hospital Acquired Infections Essay
Healthcare acquired/associated infections (HAIs) are caused by viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens.
These are infections we can get while we are receiving medical treatment in a healthcare facility.
These infections can be serious, but are also very preventable. The most common HAIs are central line
associated bloodstream infections, nosocomial pneumonia, catheter associated urinary tract infections,
and surgical site infections. The most frequent mode of transmission of hospital acquired infections is

Nosocomial pneumonia is a lung infection that can occur in patients 48 72 hours after being admitted
to a healthcare facility. This type of pneumonia occurs mostly in patients that are on a ventilator, a
machine that helps them to breathe, or patients who are critically ill and have a compromised immune
system. Hospital acquired pneumonia can also be spread by healthcare workers, who can pass germs
from their hands or clothes from person to person (direct contact) or by droplets (coughing, sneezing,
etc.). Some ways to prevent this type of infection from happening is by placing the patient in a semi
upright or upright positioning [that may] reduce the risk of aspiration and pneumonia and noninvasive
ventilation using continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) (Sethi, 2017). Generally, the main
pathogens that cause this infection are Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus species,
Haemophilus influenzae, Enterobacter species, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella species, Proteus species,
Serratia marcescens and methicillin susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (Rotstein et al., 2008).
Antibiotic resistant bacteria are a very important concern. Catheter associated urinary tract infections,
also known as CAUTI, are the most common type of HAI with approximately 75% [being] associated
with a urinary catheter ( Catheter associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI), 2017). A urinary

Second, break larger cognitive challenge. This means breaking complex tasks into baby steps so that it

example, when a child does the task incorrectly, you want to correct them in a positive manner. After

The treatments for Zika are straightforward because the disease itself is rather mild. In fact, in most

The White Label Campaign Of The National Consumers League
In 1899, Florence Kelley instigated The White Label Campaign of the National Consumers League
(NCL), an organization dedicated to promoting proper working conditions and fair living wages for
factory laborers.1 By linking middle class women reformers with trade unionists in conjunction with
the use of labels, the NCL successfully advocated for legislation to establish safety standards and
maximum work hours during the Progressive Era.2 The NCL worked to help consumers know goods
were produced through consumer sovereignty, which suggests the consumer is the one who can
influence the production of goods.3 The White Label Campaign presents the idea that it is the
responsibility of the consumer to demand safety and reliability from the goods and services they buy.
4 In addition, the outcome of this campaign brought awareness to American society during the
Progressive Era; this showed that natural human rights are not a privilege, but a right. The purpose of
the White Label Campaign was to identify and label goods made under fair living wages and proper
working conditions, and to compel consumers to take responsibility to support white labeled
companies. The National Consumers League was formed in response to these conditions and
advocated that it was the duty of consumers to find out under what conditions the articles which they
purchase are produced, and to insist that these conditions shall be at least decent and consistent with a

Folk Religions And Protestantism
From polytheism to idol worship, there are countless differences between folk religions and
Protestantism. Some folk religions abandon organized services and belief in a god altogether. Some
lean towards magic and occultism; it is near impossible to draw parallels to Christianity. However,
through understanding and being respectful of its adherents, Christians can effectively witness to
followers of folk religions. According to Carlos Martin, many followers of folk religions have not yet
heard of the gospel. It is the duty of Christian witnesses to spread the gospel to these people. This

ABSTRACT The authors examined the policies and factors that have in the past and at the present
precipitated student unrest in Nigerian university campuses. Predictions about the policies that are
likely to produce student protest in Nigerian university campuses in the near future are advanced.

Similarly, Ajuluchukwu 1962 (as cited in Onwuejeogwu, 1991) note that from the inception, the
National Union of Nigerian Students (NUNS) embarked upon deliberate campaigns of fostering
national consciousness and inspiring a strong sense of militancy in the Nigerian people s liberation
struggle (Aluede, 1995; Babatope, 1974). Babatope (1974) and Onwuejeogwu (1991) note that the
students union was born and nurtured in the womb of colonial protest. Hence student unionism was
more of a protest union rather than student union, which was aimed at far reaching changes in the
society. One incident of student unrest in 1960 was essentially due to students dissatisfaction with
government insensitivity to national issues, and its inability to address them appropriately. Nigerian
students aware of the British government s intention to establish a military base in Nigeria and by so
doing perpetuate a neo colonial state, decided to stage a protest against the

Hardscaping Natural Environments
Part of creating an atmosphere of curb appeal for your home or business property is deciding where
your focus should be on: hardscaping or greenscaping your surroundings.
Our post below covers the pros and cons of each aspect of such a curb appeal project, and hopefully, it
will make your decisions ones that will give you the lawn and surrounding area of your dreams.
Hardscaping:
Comprised of utilizing rocks, stones, concrete, wood and other man made or natural materials, this
form of decor for your lawn is readily used to enhance the visual and environmental impact of your
lawn. Some examples might be patio walkways, cement driveways and even cedar gazebos in the back
yard.

Typically, the hardscape route costs little after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in the case of using wooden decks or a gazebo, staining may be needed. Maintaining
hardscapes involves little work. The same goes for laying gravel on a driveway, but it does have to be
replenished from time to time with the crushing weight of cars running over the gravel.
3 All Creatures Big And Small
If you re looking to deter wildlife, especially bees, from setting up homestead on your home property,
then going with a hardscape mindset is the route for you.
4 Water Consideration
While it doesn t necessarily require water, per say, hardscapes will need some kind of drainage system
that will avoid accumulated pools of water or worse yet, minor flooding. Either of both conditions can
lead to an eventual mosquito infestation and breeding ground.
Greenscaping:
Involving the creation of a sustainable landscape from the soil up, this can be as simple as laying new
sod soil, adding passive solar power such as planting a tree at the right angles or even creating a yard
with recyclable rain water run offs.
1 Costs
In contrast to hardscaping, greenscapes are relatively inexpensive to begin; however, there is a
maintenance cost for nurturing and replenishing the green landscape: yard cutting, fertilizing, pruning
and other costs that add up over

Heuristic Play
The term heuristic comes from the Greek word eurisko which means to discover and to learn by
doing. Furthermore the term heuristic play has been described by Elinor Goldschmied as an early
stage of exploratory play where children enjoy filling and emptying, putting things in and taking them
out and using different types of containers. As children grow their curiosity about the world develops
and as babies begin to grow out of treasure baskets and are no longer content with simply holding and
feeling, heuristic play is the natural progression to allow children to begin to understand what items
do. Toddlers begin to have a natural curiosity to understand the different ways objects work and how
they interact with each other. For example a toddler

Napoleon s Conflict with Russia Essay
Napoleon s Conflict with Russia Napoleon was one of the greatest military leaders of all time.
By 1812 Napoleon had expanded the territory of France all over Europe including Spain, Italy,
Holland, and Switzerland. The countries that
Napoleon did not directly control, he was usually allied with. The turning point of Napoleon s career
also came in 1812 when war broke out between France and Russia because of Alexander I s refusal to
enforce the continental.
Even the French nation could not provide all the manpower and supplies needed to carry out the
Emperor s grandiose plan for subduing
Russia. Throughout 1811, he worked to mobilize the entire continent against Russia. He not only

Dying horses littered the roads and the advanced guard found little forage as Russians everywhere
abandoned their homes. Napoleon knew that he needed to fight. At Smolensk, he set up for a battle
and waited but the
Russians, afraid of a trap steadily withdrew their troops from
Smolensk and continued to retreat deeper into Russia.
The only major battle in the Russian campaign proved that something was definitely lacking in
Napoleon s judgment. Borodino was a battle of legendary proportions. Before the battle Napoleon
proclaimed, Soldiers, here is the battle you have so long desired!
However, the fight was inconclusive. At its end, Napoleon found himself the possessor, not of a
victory, but of a barren hillside and an increasingly compelling commitment to advance further into
the east. Well into the battle, the French had almost cracked the left side of the Russian Army. Several
French generals had requested that
Napoleon would commit the guard infantry into battle. This would create the final blow and insure the
Russian defeat. After 14 hours of intense combat, the fighting died out at nightfall, and Mikhail
Illarionovich Kutusov, the Russian general, gratefully began to retreat his troops. The guard infantry
had remained unused. After the
Battle of Borodino, in which losses on both sides totaled ! over 70,000 men, Napoleon had 100,000
effectives remaining, while
Kutusov probably had no more than 55,000.

Ray Bradbury s Marionettes, Inc.
Marionettes, Inc. by Ray Bradbury takes place in the year of 1989 when two men are conspiring over
the thought of having a robot stand in for them at home so that they can go out and do things their
wives would not approve of. The story starts out as two young men are walking down a street and
Smith asks Braling why after ten years of never going out would he want to go back home at such an
early hour, and Braling goes on to explain that he has a new robot that looks, acts, and smells like him
so he can trick his wife and this is just a trial run to see if his wife notices that he is missing, he also
adds that his wife has been controlling him for the last ten years and he would like to get away and go
on his dream vacation without her. At first Smith is suspicious about the company and the morals they
stand for so he questions his friend to find out more about the company. Braling then goes on to
explain that the company is called Marionettes Inc. and that although they are not yet legalized by the
government they have been secretly running their business for two years and they will clone anyone
who is willing to pay 8,000 to 15,000 thousand dollars. Throughout the night Braling tries to convince

How do you crack something with 158 million million million possible combinations? Many countries
have tried, but ultimately failed to accomplish their goal. The movie The Imitation Game accurately
portrays the historical events of the era. It correctly informs the viewer on how the Nazis
communicated using a machine called enigma, it also shows an accurate depiction of Bletchley Park
and the work of cracking enigma and the things they did to ensure that nobody found out about their
work, and it also accurately focuses on Alan Turing and his work on creating a machine to instantly
crack messages. The Nazis used the extremely complex enigma code for communication purposes.

Bletchley Park was a location set up by the British government dedicated entirely to breaking enigma.
However, they were extremely secretive about the work going on within Bletchley Park and went to
great security measures to ensure secrecy. When the employees were done for the day, the guards
would check to make sure that they were not bringing any papers out of Bletchley Park ( The
Imitation ). This shows that they were extremely serious about keeping their work a secret from
everyone else in fear of Nazi spies finding out about the work within Bletchley Park. Nobody outside
of the park was allowed to know about the work. Employees had to lie about their job in order to
prevent people from finding out about what the government was doing. The intelligence that was
produced by the employees in Bletchley was code named ultra secret (Waskey). The code name is an
example of how deliberate the government was about their work. There were many people the
government hired that worked on cracking enigma. However, the changeable settings of the Enigma
machine meant that most messages could not be read in real time (Waskey). The inability to read the
messages in real time would lead to the failure of avoiding the attacks launched by the Nazis. Thus,
leading to another victory for the Nazis and a loss for the

Does Migraine Causes
Migraines can be a HUGE pain, seriously. If you are a long term migraine sufferer, then unfortunately
you know that taking medicine is not always the cure for getting rid of the pain. However, did you
know that just by simply visiting a chiropractor, it could help you out? YES! A back doctor could be
the answer to all of your migraine issues who would have thought?
What Causes Migraines?
The cause behind migraines is a mystery. However, it is believed that they occur due to a chemical
imbalance in an individual s brain. This imbalance can be caused by food, hormone or other triggers,
which is why those who have food allergies tend to get a migraine after they eat something they are
allergic to! When you set off this trigger in your brain, your blood vessels dilate and they become
inflamed. This inflammation then causes irritation surrounding your nerves, resulting in a migraine.
Typically, those who suffer from migraines are prescribed antidepressants, which in themselves can
have a series of side effects.
How Does Chiropractic Help? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study found that chiropractic healing was just as successful as treating migraines with the
antidepressant, amitriptyline. It is believed by Chiropractors that migraines and headaches can be
caused by having a misaligned spine. If your spine is not aligned properly, the rest of your body will
suffer and you won t feel 100%. When it comes to pain caused during a migraine, it could be because
the nerves that run from the spine to the brain are irritated. This misalignment in the spine can make
an individual more likely to have a chemical imbalance in the

Persuasive Essay About Summer Camp
Have you ever been in summer camp?
Do you remember twitters lasting all night, camp fires, and toothpaste on your nose in the morning?
That is the moments we bear in mind with a smile on our faces. But do you know the hidden part, that
grants us with experiences that benefits us during our lifetime?
If you re puzzled over what to amuse your child with, summer camp is definitely the best choice.
Baldauren is a republician health and education center situated in Kokshetau region, right near the
lake Shuch e. Baldauren accepts children all around a year.
In order to encourage you to send your offspring to summer camp this summer, I ve compiled top
reasons to send your kids to summer camp, particularly by sharing my experience at camp Baldauren!

I still remember how 3 of us, from very different parts of a country, Oskemen, Pavlodar and Aktobe
built up very strong friendly relationships. I remember how almost whole camp participants were
crying right before departure, including me. More surprising fact is that I met a number of them here,
in university, that serves as proof that you never really say Goobye 
b) No I in team
There are a plenty of activities that summer camps involve children in: rope courses, scavenger hunt,
camp songs. All of them are intended to strengthen relationships between children, emphasizing
significance of everyone s contribution.
I remember a case when all our group at Baldauren was punished because the one in team didn t hand
in his phone. After that case, even some of us extremely wanted to secretly keep their ownings the
didn t do that because they were aware about effect of one s action to a group. That s one of the
lessons I learned from camp. Everyone is a part of a community he lives in and every action
influences on others, whether you want it or not.

would you run the percentages? a) Age and consumption of breakfast cereal. Here I would use cross
tabulation because there are two variables and start by listing age in the left most column. Each row

cereal consumed depending on what the question desired. b) Family income and confidence about the

The design included a number of survey questions with varying number of choices. Most of the
questions required the surveyed person to decide on scales of 1 3 or 1 4. This will allow those taking
the survey to find where they fit, but will not determine if certain parameters are a little above the
middle or greatly above the middle like question 4a which states has increased or has decreased we
wont know by how much or how impressive it might be. 5) Critique the survey used for the study.
Because the survey allows for check all that apply, some data, when compared in the situations where
the variable was a part of the all that apply question, may be confusing because information may be
counted twice or more times. 6) Prepare the survey for analysis. Set up the code sheet for this study.
How will this study be set up to be tabulated by a statistical analysis program like SPSS? I would
detail the data as a cross tabulation with control and nested variables. On the left most column I would
list the various choices for question 1. Each row would represent that the user was a specifier,
reccomender, purchaser or approver for the specific classification. Then in each column after, each
question would list all of their sub questions and each of their choices, so the next column would be if
they faxed for immediate product/service and their percentage and the column after that faxed for a
nonimmediate product/service, followed by did not do in the

Seasons In A Midsummer Night s Dream Essay
In A Midsummer Night s Dream by William Shakespeare, the seasons are vital to the development of
several relationships. Seasons are first presented in the title. Each season offers a different attitude.
Summer is known for freedom and romance, where winter in contrast is shown with themes of
bitterness and death. The season of the play and the themes associated with it allow the characters in
the comedy to progress in their romantic relationships. The seasons heavily affect the relationships of
the inhabitants of the magical world. Fairy royalty Titania and Oberon, along with their attendants see
over the magical world. Oberon and Titania, being king and queen, respectively, are in a fight over an
Indian prince. Oberon desires the little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the natural world there is strife among four lovers. The lovers include a couple, Hermia and
Lysander, a competitor for Hermia s love, Demetrius, and a friend of Hermia and a seeker Demetrius s
love, Helena. The four are affected by the fairies seasonal mix up as well as the fairies interfering with
the lover affairs by using a juice that causes the affected to pursue the next thing... [they] look upon...
with the soul of love (2.1.177, 180, 183). The love potion put on the lovers causes confusion and
conflict among the women. Hermia and Helena argue over the men, who have both been unknowingly
tainted with the love potion. This leads to arguments over their friendship which was once so strong
that the two were two seeming bodies but one heart as well as their physical insecurities (3.2.212).
The women are forcing their angers on to each other both because they are angry at each other and
because of the love potion confusion and the season switch. Thomas C. Foster describes hard wired
traits of winter, which could be the season summer has been confused with by the fairies, as filled with
resentment and dissatisfaction with things life people (186). Towards the end of the comedy, the fight
between Titania and Oberon was solved, causing their negative effects in the physical world to subside
and allow the seasons to stop their dissension (2.1.116). Additionally, the fairies

Tower Of Babylon Summary
Tower of Babylon In Ted Chiang s Tower of Babylon , the story serves as a pathway for the concept of
the prominent fight between the existence of religion versus the intelligence of man in the genre of
science fiction. The Tower of Babylon targets the self righteousness and obliviousness of men when
faced with any circumstances. Chiang shows the tower itself as a devotion to God in order to get
closer to him in the story but in reality, is exemplifies man s hubris which ultimately shows the man s
lack of humility towards God. The story starts off with introducing a group of miners from Elam
hoping to achieve the goal of breaking the vault of heaven , which is the gateway to Yahweh s
paradise. Both miners from Elam and Egypt are gathered to decode this enigma, ultimately providing
a utopia for mankind. As the men gear up for a long journey, they go over the basics of traveling up
the tower in order. They have already figured out a way to go and break the vault, from growing a
forest to supply wood for the tower to growing their own crops on the towers. The author now shows
the main paradox the story is surrounded upon, they are confident and constantly uphold the
superiority of their religion, but rely on engineering rather than prayer . The story is mainly focused on
the adventure to the vault as no deity makes an appearance in the story . Specifically, man trying show
their dominance in knowledge when facing God.

Sites that include drop down menus that only permit users to enter birth years can provide users with
the chance to make themselves older than 13 and therefore cannot be considered a neutral age

one can obtain their parent information to provide a direct notice and also implement parental consent

  • 2. Persuasive Essay For Dog Park Dog parks are a staple of urban and suburban areas, a place where dog owners can congregate and converse about the local gossip, or goings on about the neighborhood. Over the past 12 months, a group of people have come together to propose allocating land for a dog park in Weston and tensions are running high. Surprisingly, the dog park has met with a strong degree of controversy. For the better part of the last year, there have been multiple hearings involving the dog park. The latest meeting occurred just last week and there is still no resolution about how to proceed. Maria Proto, a long time Weston resident started the campaign for the dog park. She has a lot to say. When I spoke to her last week, she said, One of the benefits that a lot of people don t realize when they don t go to dog parks regularly is that it is not just socialization for your animals. So that s one of the benefits for your animals get socialized well and well socialized dogs are usually less aggressive towards other dogs but is also a way for people to go out and meet each other ... I would love to meet my fellow Westonites who have dogs. I have also been told by some people that it is very hard to meet people in our town because there aren t many events in Weston to go to. While many residents are in support of the formation of the park, there are many people on the other side. Just ask Bill Theriault. He is worried that if Weston puts money to this dog park it will take money away for many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Methods of Evangelism Ruby Krucky EVAN 101 D15 LUO December 3, 2012 Methods of Evangelism Part ONE Evangelistic Method #1 Of the two evangelistic intellectual methods, I have chosen to research the Four Spiritual Laws. Bill Bright wrote, Just as there are physical laws that govern how the physical universe, so are there spiritual laws that govern your relationship with God. This method is most used in presenting the Gospel to someone because it is simpler. Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, originally wrote this as a booklet. This booklet was designed to help individuals to be more effectual in their witness for Jesus. The Four Spiritual Laws are used to convict, convince, and convert. The Laws are as followed: Law 1: God ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is the most effective way of winning souls. This method should be used on people, whom one interact with the most, people who know someone and see them on a regular basis. Lifestyle evangelism creates a nurturing environment to extend an invitation to Christ. This means an unbeliever will feel a sense of belonging before becoming a believer. Research has shown that a non believer would be likely to give a believer the opportunity to share their faith, when the believer s life has proven that their words are sincere, and life altering. In this way, the non believer would feel a sense of worth before they expose themselves to the Inspired Word. There are some advantages to using the Lifestyle Relational method. In particular, the Father sent Jesus to be the absolute light, to be an example, and demonstrate how people of God should live. We should be living proof that Our Father is who he says he is; that Christ truly is the Son who freed people from slavery to self; and that the Holy Spirit honestly can transform our life. This is truly an advantage affirmation. This example of showing is not a substitute for telling. If words were all we used to explain the gospel, then people would never understand it enough to submit to Jesus. However, showing a person is a necessary preparation for telling. People will always buy into your words when your actions back them up. We must live a life that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Greatest Generation Of The World War II Essay Many of the Greatest Generations core values have been challenged by later generations due to changes in the economy, politics, war, social equality, technology, and the family structure. The Greatest Generation, a name that journalist Tom Brokaw popularized, refers to the generation that grew up during the Great Depression, served during World War II, and then worked hard and prospered after the War. The Greatest Generation believed in following rules and not questioning authority, focusing on the nuclear family, being patriotic, working hard, saving money and owning a house. These tenets have evolved during the last fifty years for better and for worse. The traditional values of the Greatest Generation taught them to respect law and order, follow the rules, and be patriotic. That generation did not question the reasons behind fighting in World War II. During that time, Americans sacrificed everything, from sugar to death of loved ones, all in the name of patriotism and America being the greatest power in the World. Supporting America s war went from becoming a duty to optional in later generations. Observing the casualties of war and questioning the reason for entering war, later generations challenged the United States military presence in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The Greatest Generation also did not challenge racism, as the Baby Boomers did that were born after World War II. The Baby Boomers protested, peacefully and violently, to bring about changes ... • 5. U.S. Foreign Policy Essay Throughout the course of history, the United States has remained consistent with its national interest by taking many different actions in foreign policy. There have been both immediate and long term results of these actions. Foreign policy is the United States policy that defines how we deal with other countries economically and politically. It is made by congress, the president, and the people. Some of the motivations for United States foreign policy are national security, economics, and idealism. They were also known as the Triple Alliance. The Allied Powers, also know as the Triple Entente consisted of Britain, France, and Russia. An immediate cause of the war was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914. Some long term causes that started the war were militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism. America tried to keep themselves isolated from the war in Europe. Before the war, America had an idea of neutrality. Neutrality is when American lives and property is not threatened. There was great ethnic diversity in the United States which led to a public union about war. The United States also had the idea of freedom of the seas. This meant the routes for trading were open. • 7. The Gaze Today s audience is one of laziness. The majority of content consumers are not programed to digest what they watch with a critical eye. While there is no real harm in this, there is room for change and experimental media has been trying to provoke that change for decades. Bertolt Brecht s theory and practice of alienation, or v effect, has been pulling audiences out of their comfort zone for a long time through many different types of art and entertainment. Another topic of discussion is The Gaze ; usually seen through the male s eye. Again, it is not harmful, but that is because it has been engrained in the modern audience s brain that it is okay to view woman the way entertainment says is okay. While they are two very different themes, alienation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mainstream cinema (and culture) reinforces how we are to look at women (as objects, as passive, as without agency, unworthy of our existential attention) (Week 8 Slides). While there is nothing wrong with admiring the female form, it does raise some questions about how easily susceptible audiences are to media. When the audience has ...come to accept the sexist tropes and codes of mainstream Hollywood cinema as natural, inevitable and beyond reproach... (Week 8 Slides), there is a problem. The Gaze started early on in cinema and has continued to be practiced in films even to today, if not more so today. One film in particular that sparked controversy was Michael Powell s 1960 film Peeping Tom . The film is about a serial killer who films his victims as they are murdered. This film ended up being banned in many places around the world and was seen as one of the worst films. A few years later, Martin Scorsese brought the movie back into the light and is now seen as one of the greatest cult films ever made. The reason behind why it shifted from being appaling to being amazing, relies on the audience. Nothing about the film has changed over the years, but the opinion of it has. How can this be? It has to do with the audience s reaction and perception of the content. In 1960, audiences brains weren t trained to fetishize woman like they are in today s modern films. • 8. Personal Response For The Book Thief The Book Thief I believe that the theme of the book thief is the power of words. I chose this theme specifically because one, it was the theme that was repeated in the book and two, because without words there wouldn t be a story. For example, Lisle learning how to read and define words with her father made them have a closer relationship. From there, I believe is where the usage of words began to have a big impact to the plot. Knowing how to read not only allowed Liesel to read her first stolen book but it gave her additional desire to steal other books. Words introduce Liesel to Ilsa Hermann. They became close as well, giving Liesel more variety to the collection of her stolen books. Towards the end of the story, Ilsa gave Liesel a journal which saved her life. If it wasn t for the ... Liesel s care was kind enough to give Max, the Jew in their basement, thirteen gifts and hope that he would wake up and share them with her. Meminger s heroic traits allowed Max to have shelter, for Jews who passed by when being sent to the concentration camps to get an extra piece of bread, and was able to bring peace to the people of Hamilton Street in a basement during a raid with her reading. Meminger wanted to learn things, leading to curiosity for example, when Liesel came down she found the book sitting next to him, slanted against his thigh, and curiosity got the best of her (Zusak 278). • 9. Internet Security Metrics Security Metrics As the Internet becomes ubiquitous due to wireless technologies including 3G and pervasive Wi Fi Hotspots, there is the need to continually improve security technologies. One of the most effective approaches to doing this is to define a series of metrics for measuring security levels attained (Idika, Bhargava, 2012). The following is a listing of security metrics and their definitions: In the area of Incident Management the following metrics apply: Mean Cost per Incident This the average cost per security incident from a dollars and time perspective. The cost per incident is often measured in terms of opportunity cost of how the time could have been invested in other tasks instead of solving the security incident (Shari, 2009). Mean Time Between Security Incidents This is the aggregated measurement of how much time elapses between security incidents over a given time period. The mean time between security incidents is often measured in monthly increments and charted to compare the impact of security strategies over time (Wang, Guo, Wang, Zhou, 2012). Number of Incidents a very fundamental measure of security that all security platforms, even those available for free via vendors websites, report. This is the baseline of many security programs and measurement platforms today. This figure is often tracked over years to determine how well investment sin security pay off over time as well. Specifically the argument discusses the need for reform within the classroom setting regarding student reaction and interpretation to the text. Class discussion involving Lolita tends to fall under a blanket of socially constructed presumptions that lend the discussion toward a shallow and judgmental reading of the text, and this tendency limits the discussion. However, when I found myself again discussing Lolita with this same narrow approach in my graduate class, I began to wonder if the majority of readers only focused on Humbert Humbert s transgressions. Had the rest of the world missed the point? Could no one recognize the genius behind the monster? Is it possible for the average reader to grasp the ironic intentions of the author, or is Lolita forever overshadowed by the reader s need to judge and dismiss? Too often Lolita is read from only one perspective, the perspective of monstrosity. Nabokov the pornographer threatened to expose and corrupt others, particularly children, through the publication of a novel about unnatural desire (Whiting 835). The tendency is for the average reader to become entangled in a moral debate, to take opposition to the seemingly criminal and amoral acts of the narrator, to condemn him for his blatant and grotesque sin. This surface analysis of the text was prevalent at the time of publication, delaying the release of the novel in the United States by three years. Most reviews of the novel [Lolita] dealt with the narrow issue of its alleged obscenity. The novel was published three years earlier in France because Nabokov could not find an American publisher ready to risk publishing it (Tamir Ghez 65). Critical theory since this time has uncovered multiple layers of interpretation that offer much more meaningful analysis of the novel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All around the world, America is seen as a country of colors, yet mass media does not recognize that fact. He states that racial discourse and expressions have been prevalent towards African Americans. Race matters exist in different places and at different times under widely varying conditions, he writes. This pushes into the understanding of racism in the history of the United States. Society has been significantly revolutionized since the beginnings of the United States. The very history of the country has been cursed with racism and the harsh oppression of minorities. In fact, America s power and economy were founded on a Marxist theory of a two class system. On the top of that system were the slave owners, and at the very bottom were the slaves themselves (Balkaran, 1999). Slavery and segregation used to be huge components in the lives of Americans. During those times, Americans were white, landowning men; obviously that principle has been altered a great deal. Stephen King is often associated with the horror genre because of his excessive use of gore in his novels. However, gore is merely a side agenda that helps King shape his ideas. Instead, King s main goal is to create suspense. By creating a vivid image of the impact of a murder, rape, or other catastrophe he is able to foster his goal by unnerving his reader and creating a conflict. The only major battle in the Russian campaign proved that something was definitely lacking in Napoleon s judgment. Borodino was a battle of legendary proportions. Before the battle Napoleon proclaimed, Soldiers, here is the battle you have so long desired! However, the fight was inconclusive. At its end, Napoleon found himself the possessor, not of a victory, but of a barren hillside and an increasingly compelling commitment to advance further into the east. Well into the battle, the French had almost cracked the left side of the Russian Army. Several French generals had requested that Napoleon would commit the guard infantry into battle. This would create the final blow and insure the Russian defeat.
