There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you (Maya Angelou). In a world
where often the majority s voice is heard, it is easy to see only one perspective. However,
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a female Nigerian writer, persuades her audience to seek knowledge
from multiple perspectives of a story. Prompted by the increasing tensions between global
populations, Adichie in The Danger of a Single Story, speaks through personal anecdotes enabling
her reader to understand the importance of analyzing and understanding multiple perspectives in
stories. Throughout the first anecdote, Adichie explains the danger associated with seeing a single

3.1 Introduction
Jesus willingness to cross boundaries, to touch, cleanse and eat with people brings life and hope
to the one who had none. The common people flock to Jesus, believing that he can help them.
He never turned aside from the call of suffering. Unfailing readiness to help the afflicted was his
mission. The story in our Text inspires us to reflect about the need of humanity to be healed and
to heal. It carries the good news for every aspect of our life for different occasions, different
contexts and different times. It is not enough that the hemorrhaging woman should be healed; she
needs to be truly integrated back into the society. It is not enough to give life alone but to help to
sustain the life. It bestows a very strong need of God s healing touch to each individual s belief,
attitudes and values to transform and reshape one s faith and idea about following Jesus in order to
become a healing presence in the life of others. It also can make an immense change in the Church.
And all the more in the present context the concept of health and wholeness needs to be highlighted
in different levels. Therefore, I would like to bring out this concept in the present scenario with

The Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen (DRMC) states that, Men are born and
remain free and equal in rights (French Nat. Assembly 1995: 467). So, using this logic, yes, humans
are equal and entitled to the same rights and freedom of every other human being. Yet in nature,
there is nothing that necessarily protects those rights and freedoms. Who is going to stop a
stronger, more powerful enemy from ignoring these rights and enslaving those weaker than
himself? Thomas Paine answers this question in his essay entitled African Slavery in America.
He declares that every man has a natural, perfect right to their freedom, and it is the job of the
government to, set them free, and punish those who hold them in slavery (Paine 1995: 647).
Furthermore, the DRMC states that The aim of every political association is the preservation of
the natural and inalienable rights of man. It is the role of government to protect the rights of its
citizens. Rousseau held that this social order is a sacred right which is the basis of all rights. He
goes on to argue that this right is not of nature, and must be founded on conventions (Rousseau
1995: 431). The only rights that nature guarantees for someone are those that they can defend for
themselves. Therefore, by nature, rights are unequal from one being to the next, just as talents,
strengths, and abilities are unequal. However, a person s claim to a social order guarantees them a
protection of rights and freedoms that they can gain in no other way. Of course, during the time of
these writings there were oppressed members of society, that even though they did their part, did
not receive these same protections. In America alone, African Americans, Native Americans,
women, etc. all were excluded from the equal rights promised to white males. Despite forward
