The Bell Curve
Today, current events in the United States are mired with complex topics and simple answers. Often
times articles present information in biased ways, or make completely inaccurate statements in order
to emphasize an opinion. This often avoids addressing an issue with a serious discussion of the
empirical data and known information on the topic. One specific topic in which data and studies are
often presented carelessly or often misinterpreted is in the subject of IQ. According to one of the
authors of a controversial book The Bell Curve, Charles Murray says; There s a dirty little secret that
we try to expose in the book which is that the conventional wisdom in the media about IQ tests and
what they measure and don t measure, and expert opinion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the final points made in The Bell Curve is that by acknowledging IQ as a factor that exists,
social policy and decisions made at the macro level can better be tailored to the needs of groups. To
prevent a cognitive elite from isolating itself from the rest of society, the book offers a solution in
which differences in abilities are recognized, and each individual can have a valued place(1). The bell
Curve unsurprisingly is disregarded by many that fear utilizing IQ could have severely negative
effects on society s views and treatments of minority groups or historically oppressed groups. The
book is often described as a racist and bigoted book that tells its readers to treat groups with
significantly different IQ differently (2). While both sides can make a strong case for the value of IQ
in modern day society, without an understanding of the experiments and design structure of the tests
used to collect data on the subject, both arguments should seem unconvincing. Arguing about IQ is a
very sensitive subject, and to be able to do so in a beneficial way the arguments used to discuss the
topic should utilize an understanding of principals learned in CBE

The Epidemic Of Food Borne Illnesses
Epidemiologists, those who study the origins and causes of disease, have been monitoring the
epidemic of food borne illnesses since 1864 (CDC.int). According to the Center for Disease Control
and Prevention (heretofore refereed to as the CDC) approximately 1 in 6 Americans (roughly 48
million) contract food poisoning every year. Of the infected, on average food borne illness are
responsible for 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths per year as reported in the CDC s 2011
Emerging Infectious Diseases. The CDC has identified 250 diseases stemming from from viruses,
parasites, and bacteria as well as chemical contamination which disseminates by natural and
manufactured chemicals or by toxins produced by microorganisms. In the onslaught of food borne
illnesses salmonelleosis and campylobacteriosis are the main culprits.
Affecting over 1.2 million people and causing 380 deaths per year in the United States alone,
salmonelleosis (commonly referred to as salmonella), is regarded as the most common food borne
disease. Common symptoms commence from 12 hours to three days after ingestion; severe cases and
those who are more prone to disease children, the elderly, and those with HIV/AIDs experience fevers,
diarrhea and vomiting due to the intestinal damaged triggered by the infection. Salmonella invades the
body and the resulting tissue damage releases chemicals into the blood stream that trigger swelling
and inflammation. AvrA temporarily stops salmonella from breaking apart

Workplace Bullying In The Workplace
Introduction
As a new gradate nurses enters the working field they hear the terms fresh meat or the old eat their
young . Feeling like you don t have enough clinical experience can cause uncertainty and anxiety. But
hearing the stories about workplace bullying and intimidation can cause a feeling of intimidation.
Bullying involves a real or perceived imbalance of power and repetition of the negative behavior
(Gumbus A., Lyons B. 2012) There are different types of behaviors, such as threating or yelling, it can
be more insidious and passive, like refusing to cooperate or perform necessary tasks. Bullying is a
serious issue, it s an ongoing problem in the healthcare workplace. Bullying causes demoralization of
the victim and decreased job satisfaction, as well as the individual feeling sadness, anxiety, depression
and isolation. This disruptive behavior can foster medical errors which can lead to harm of the
patients. Nurse bullying is also costly for healthcare employers. It often results in increased turnover
when nurses who are bullied choose to quit their jobs rather than remain in a work environment that
makes them miserable.
Factors influencing workplace bullying
Given the negative consequences of workplace bullying on the mental health and well being of
employees and the performance of any organization, it is important to understand the reasons that
trigger the development of this social phenomenon. From a humanistic perspective, this

Mycenaean Art
Mycenaean art Along the south eastern shores of the Greek mainland there existed during late Helladic

grouped around palaces. Their persons have come to be called Mycenaean s after Mycenae, the most

shaft graves and, a little later, in conical stone chambers, known as beehive tombs. This development
reached its height toward 1300 B.C. in such inspiring structures as the one shown in figures 106 and

How The Disadvantaged Social Status Of The First...
The occupation of Australia involved an inventory of prejudiced and misguided policies against
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples that manifested in the dispossession, physical ill
treatment, social disruption, population decline, economic exploitation, codified discrimination and
cultural devastation of the first people of this land (Vos, Barker, Begg, Stanley Lopez, 2008, p. 471). It
is undisputed that compared with mainstream Australians, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
are still experiencing significantly worse health, social and economic outcomes. This essay will

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (2005) states Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
experience lower levels of employment, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait adults in 2002 being more
than twice as likely to be unemployed, compared to mainstream Australian adults.
According to international research, there is indication that low socioeconomic status is associated
with poor health and increased exposure to health risk factors (Blakely, Hales Woodward, 2004;
Turrell Mathers, 2000; Carson, Dunbar, Chenhall Ballie, 2007, as cited in Australian Bureau of
Statistics, 2008). Data shows that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people without completion of
education were more likely to habitually smoke, consume high volumes of alcohol, engage in low
levels of exercise and were less likely to eat fruit and vegetables on a day to day basis (ABS, 2008).
Other social influences relating to the issue of poor health include low income, unhygienic living
conditions and remote location (Healey, 2002). Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with low
income have little available funds for purchasing health care and dietary needs and those living in
remote areas have restricted access to health facilities and resources (ABS, 2008; Australian
HealthInfoNet, 2013).
From this, it is evident that due to the social status and outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait

Samurai In Japan Essay
One of the most belligerent and successful samurai warlords, Takeda Shingen, grew up and reigned
over the prefecture where I met my wife 400 years later. The Sengoku Warring State, 1467 to 1603,
was not, as aficionados assume, a world of lasting honor. Loyalties exchanged like yen coins.
Ambitious warlords allowed family members to be kidnapped, and murdering young innocents was
commonplace. An entire ruling clan, the Taira, was dispatched when rival children, spared rather than
extinguished, grew and enacted revenge, finishing off Taira youths. My entry into Japan was accident.
I rolled dice on a job teaching English in a Japanese village of 900 in the mountains that hiccuped
west of Tokyo. I met my future partner, Yumiko, and Japan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Plot The Estimated Actual Fracture Gradient Curve
Plot the estimated actual fracture gradient curve and the designed fracture gradient curve, which is the
estimated actual fracture gradient, less allowance for well control, surge, or ECD. Plot offset mud
weight and LOT (or Formation Integrity Test) data to provide a check of the pore pressure predictions.
Start from the bottom on the mud weight curve (Point A); draw vertical line up to the designed
fracture gradient curve (Point B). Point B is the initial estimated intermediate casing setting depth. The
interval between Point A and Point B is the initial estimated production casing or liner interval. Move
cross to Point C from Point B at the same depth to identify the mud weight required for the depth.
Move up to Point D (must stay under the designed fracture gradient curve) to determine the surface (or
intermediate casing in some offshore areas term) casing setting depth. Move cross to Point E from
Point D at the same depth to identify the mud weight required for that depth. In the case shown in the
figure, there would be no requirement for casing above this depth. However, a conductor casing (or
surface casing in some offshore areas term) is required to prevent wash out of shallow formation and
to provide support for subsequent wellhead and to enable diverters to be installed. Certain factors
apart from the pore pressure and fracture gradient are also involved in the casing depth selection
process and they are: Underground supply drinking water zones

Heroism In The Hobbit
Pattern of Heroism Fantasy author J.R.R Tolkien once said, All that is gold does not glitter, not all
those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the
frost. In one of Tolkien s best selling novels, The Hobbit, the main character Bilbo Baggins, who was
a timid and quiet creature, sets off on an adventure after being dragged out of his hobbit hole by
Gandalf and thirteen dwarves. With all starting out as a simple adventure, soon turned into a race
against time. Between saving the dwarves and battling the powerful dragon Smaug, Bilbo could see he

MEMBERS REGARDING THE QUALITY AND CONDITION, MAINTENANCE, AND
IMPROVEMENT AND RENOVATION OF EXISTING PUBLIC SCHOOL FACILITIES
Introduction The quality and condition of existing public school facilities have been a topic of
growing concern among educators across the country. Each year, the cost of maintenance, and
improvement and renovation needed to maintain public schools continues to increase (Earthman,
1994). National studies conducted during the last fifteen years clearly indicate rising costs. In 1983, a

School board members are responsible for policy and budget decisions that determine the level of
support for facility maintenance, and improvement and renovation. Their decisions clearly affect the
quality and condition of the schools in their districts. These decisions are made in conjunction with
competing demands for limited fiscal resources needed to address all school issues. School board
members are instrumental in maintaining the quality and condition of the public schools in a
responsible and timely manner. Grover, State Superintendent of Wisconsin, said it this way (EWA,
1989): The state has been spending more money to provide safe housing for its 5,600 prisoners than it
has for its 760,000 school children. We build golf courses and jails by fiat, but we put our children in
storefronts and church basements. . . . That says a lot about what s wrong with America. (p. 2)
Ambach, Executive Director of The Council of Chief State School Officers, was quoted in the
Schoolhouse In The Red study (AASA, 1992): If national goals for student performance are to be met,
our students must have learning environments that support high productivity. Investments in high tech
plants and overcoming the neglect of maintenance is essential for a 21st century opportunity to learn
for every student in America. (p.7) Finally, an interview in the February 1997 American School and

The Ethics Of The And Public And Private Industry
External hacks can cause a business or government millions of dollars as well as the loss of vast
amounts of personal data. What is not as prevalent in the news is how these internal hackers often use
an insider s credentials to gain access to a computer network. Equally as troubling is there are
businesses that disregard the likelihood of a hacker coming from within their own organization.
Cybersecurity should begin internally, however, as in the case of AT T, one of world s largest
communications companies (AT T Company Information Key Facts, n.d.), human beings tend to be
the greatest security vulnerability to the public and private industry. In 1875, Alexander Graham Bell
whose invention efforts for the talking telegraph were financed by Gardiner Hubbard and Thomas

Endangered Species Act Of 1973 Essay
Endangered Species Act of 1973 The Endangered Species Act of 1973 is an environmental policy that
is currently having problems with timely implementation of its policies. The current issue interfering
with the ability of this policy to perform to the best of its ability is the government s reaction time. The
government has been sluggish in reacting to the different species when they become endangered. This
may in part be due to interference from lobbyists who may not always be acting in the best interest of
the species they claim to be lobbying for. The Endangered Species Act of 1973 was created to protect
individual plant and animal species as well as their ecosystems. The act creates two separate groups:
the endangered species and the threatened species categories. Endangered species are species that are
close to extinction and threatened species are those that have a potential to move onto the endangered
list. The Endangered Species Act does not account for how quickly any species can become
endangered or extinct if it is not placed on one of the lists and nothing is done to protect it. This is
compounded by the assertion that lobbyists also have an undue influence on which species are put on
or removed from the endangered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Libertarian Argument Analysis
In the United States institutionalized prohibition based cannabis policies defy widely accepted societal
values, delegitimizing the state s authority of law, neglecting its responsibility to respect individual
free will and ultimately, the right of self determination. These unjustified policies take a heavy
financial and social toll on society, forcing law enforcement to spend time and money to arrest a
majority of non violent, low level offenders. In addition, marijuana policies and enforcement have
been seen as inherently biased and discriminatory. Not only that, but the medical applications of
cannabis are increasingly becoming recognized and accepted as a standard in terms of treating
diseases and relieving physical or mental ailments. Furthermore, statistics have shown that
legalization leads to a decreased use of marijuana among teens and minors. Dollar wise, cannabis ...

Political activist and Libertarian representative J. Wilson comments on this saying We believe that
people own their own bodies and what they choose to put in them. That also means people own the

accounts for why the state should have no say to arbitrarily decide what people can and can t consume.
Prohibition must be measured against the deprivation of personal freedom. Likewise, the United States
has an obligation to the people to respect the right of self determination and individual free will. In
this case, self ownership prevails over government regulation in regards to prohibition based cannabis
policies. Hence, reform is necessary so the fundamental of self ownership isn t denied to individuals.

Government intervention is common in today s market society. Although difficult to identify at times,
it is ever present in most transactions that occur. The idea behind the involvement is promotion of the
welfare of the citizens that reside within the government s rule. Whether establishing or promoting
economic growth, employment, income equality, or stabilizing interest rates, the government feels that
their hand in the transaction is for the benefit of the consumer. Market failures can be argued in favor
or in contradiction of big government. No matter the opinion of the individual, the masses are able to
enjoy cleaner air, water, and ground due to increased guidelines set by governing officials. The air we
breathe is full of pollutants; some of which are man made, others are found naturally and released
during chemical changes. The Clean Air Act, which is a constant work in progress, is designed to
reduce emissions by corporations to include those that are considered greenhouse gasses (Cooke Bell
2014). The gasses are a result of unfiltered, or unregulated, production that creates spillover. Water, a
renewable resource like air, is also a regulated waste product. A lot of chemicals, debris, and sewage
can flow from households and industries. Considered one of the most effective ... Show more content

The argument has equal ammunition on either side. Socialism, or totalitarianism is the extreme
measure of government involvement. The opposite, at least in economic terms, is Laissez faire. This
true market economy is the state of free trade, 100% lacking of government involvement in trades.
Although neither system of government or lack thereof is prevalent, or succeeding, they are the hope
for some individuals. Whether in agreeance with all, some, or no interference on part of the
government, in the United States, the government has their hands in practically every

Why Did Nero Kill The Poor
Why did Emperor Nero persecute these poor, innocent Christians that did no verified crimes? Well, he
had many theories that were not all one hundred percent accurate. Emperor Nero had many
conspiracies such as, that they started the Great Fire of Rome, and that they were being inappropriate
with other family members.
First of all, there was a Great Fire of Rome that started in 64 AD, and Emperor Nero blamed the
Christians for this horrible disaster. Although, many people thought that Nero started the fire, he took
this opportunity to put all the blame on the people he hated the most, the Christians. After he blamed
them, he sent them to jail for the crime of hating mankind. In jail they got tourcherd by dogs ripping
them apart, and they

Embryo Diagnosis
Embryo Diagnosis
Karen and Roger have decided to start a family. Again. It has been nearly six years since their first and
only child, Katie, was born, and just over two years since she died. In her four years of life, Katie was
plagued with the fatal Tay sachs disease. Because the enzyme needed to rid her brain of fatty materials
was absent at birth, she lost her sight when she was only eighteen months old. Her ability to operate
the left side of her body was gone several months later.
Understandably, the loss of their daughter devastated the young couple. The difficulty of watching
their little girl suffer and knowing it was their genetic makeup that caused her pain made it harder to
try having another baby. They honestly didn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The possibility of predicting not only diseases, but specific traits such as eye color, height, and
intelligence levels makes eugenics very possible and much easier to attain. Not only is eugenics
ethically incorrect, but it will also have a negative effect on our genetic diversity.
Testing embryos for predispositions to certain behavioral tendencies like violence, schizophrenia,
alcoholism, or homosexuality could also lead to unfair destruction. Nurture and environment are also
factors that constitute behavior, as well as genetics.
Once these tests have been performed, there is no guarantee that the results are absolutely written in
stone. It is possible to terminate perfectly healthy embryos and unknowingly implant those with the
dreaded disease. Also, doctors are unable to predict the true extent of the disease. An embryo
diagnosed as positive may develop into a child with less severe symptoms and still be able to lead a
somewhat normal and productive life.
Some wonder about the defective embryos. Their existence is due only to the chance that two people
may have a healthy child, and to destroy them seems cold. Gary D. Hodgen of the Jones Institute has a
response to this concern. We don t for a minute pretend an embryo is paper wad, said Mr. Hodgen. We
know it s a potential human life (Wheeler A10).

Included in the discussion of their cultures we will also touch on the way some countries feel about
these types of technology. It will be important for us to also talk about the environment. Then, finally,
we must talk about both the moral and ethical aspects of using robots to perform surgery. By
researching and reporting these things, it is our desire for everyone to not only have a better
understanding of the technology, but to consider it as an alternate source, if needed in the future. It is
technology like robotic assisted surgery that will help us have the long, healthy lives we all desire.
Description of the Technology (Melissa Cutrer)
Description
Computer assisted surgery and robotic assisted surgery are both technology developments that use
robotic systems to aid surgeons in surgical procedures. The term robot was first coined by the Czech
playwright, Karel Capek, in 1921 in his play Rossom s Universal Robots. The word robot is from the
check word robota which means forced labor. (Palep, 2009). Robots are taking on more of a role
outside of just imagination but in reality. Robots were once known as machines that performed
repetitive tasks and now they have taken on the role of being known as highly intelligent robots and
are becoming popular in culture with human like characteristics. Even though robots still are

The Great Principles Of The American Revolution
The creation of the American nation became what it is today from years of struggle in which the
common people, as well as the Founding Fathers, played a vital part for independence. The promise of
the Revolution, a nation based on the republican ideals of liberty, independence, and equality, was to
some extent achieved. Yet the great principles of the Revolution have long shaped our thoughts of
what it means to be an American. All the events leading up and after the American Revolution will
have effects on the common people. The story of George Robert Twelves Hewes helps historians
comprehend the part that the common people played in their struggle for freedom and republican
ideals they wanted to achieve for the generations to come in the new nation. The common people were
important because if they didn t join John Hancock, Samuel Adams, and other wealthy leaders then
the American Revolution would have never taken place. The common people made up the bulk of the
Continental Army, without convincing the bulk of those people, they would have stayed loyal the King
George III. The common people in the colonial era of the United States were made mostly up of
people that worked in trade areas such as shoemakers, smiths, carpenters, and other trades within that
time. Most of them were poor, especially if a colonist was in the shoemaking trade. John Adams, said
that shoemaking was, too mean and diminutive an occupation, to hold a client of his who wanted to
rise in the world. 1

Sugar Cultivation During The Nineteenth Century Essay
In the British Caribbean during the seventeenth and eighteenth century, sugar cultivation came into
existence as the Europeans slowly moved away from the production of tobacco. This was done for two
main reasons; the first being, the Europeans saw how lucrative the production of the sugarcane crop
can be for them and secondly, it would have significantly reduced the cost of sweeteners for both men
and women of British descent. Honey, being the only substitution for sugar at the time, was considered
to be very expensive and as a result an alternative was needed. In order for this production system to
be fully adopted, the Europeans required a labour force that could endure the hardships associated
with toiling in the sugar plantation. This is where the enslaved Africans were introduced. To the
Europeans, Africans were considered to be much more effective because in their view they were seen
as having no soul. These Africans were taken from the West African coast primarily around the
Senegal River and Angola, (Campbell 1) placed upon slave ships and brought into the Caribbean to be
sold to different estate owners or managers. From then onwards, this was the introduction of slavery
and as such this essay would be based upon the book entitled Beyond Massa. This book was written
by John F. Campbell, a historian and current History lecturer at the University of the West Indies,
which is located at the St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad. In addition to, Mr. Campbell also received

Operation Barbarossa Essays
OPERATION BARBAROSSA
The invasion of Russia was the largest military campaign of the Second World War. Operation
Barbarossa, as it was known, was launched on 22 June 1941 and completely took Russia by surprise.
The widening war raging in Africa and eastern Europe were key distractions for Hitler from his
ultimate goal of attacking Russia.
Although the British army remained undefeated in the west, Hitler s goal proved an urgency for him to
begin moving on the east. Whilst planning was made throughout 1940 for the invasion of Russia, time
was favorable towards the Russians and they continued to mobilize their resources and strengthen
their defense forces.

The German army once again succeeded here, with the Ukraine being captured along with 600 000
Russian prisoners. With this success, the push for Leningrad and Moscow began once again, however
the situation began to change with autumn rains slowing advances and winter creeping up.
It was during the Russian winter that German troops entered Leningrad and began a 3 year siege,
however the city never fell. At the same time, one army group reached the outskirts of Moscow but by
December night temperatures fell to below 50 degrees, German soldiers lacked adequate clothing, fuel
froze in the tanks, weapons jammed and the armies were struggling for supplies. It was then that the
Russian army, reinforced with troops from the Eastern front, launched a major counter attack and
drove the Germans back 150 kilometers back before they stabilized their line.
In the course of the invasion, the Russians had lost over 5 million soldiers and Germany over 1
million, but the German campaign still failed.
Though there is not one single causing factor, the Germans had underestimated the Russians who had
men to spare and were encouraged by Stalin s message of Nationalism where he called on to defend
Mother Russia against the invaders. Germany s military strategy was also flawed as there were too
many goals at once and not one principal target

The blue whale is the largest animal ever to have lived on Earth; it is larger than any of the dinosaurs.
The biggest recorded blue whale was a female in the Antarctic Ocean that was 30.5 m long (more than
3.5 times the length of a double decker bus and as long as a Boeing 737 plane) with an estimated
weight of 144 tonnes (almost the same as 2,000 men). The tongue alone of a blue whale can weigh as
much as an elephant and an entire football team could stand on it!
The heart of a blue whale is about the size of a VW Beetle car and weighs up to 450kg. The aorta, a
major blood vessel for the heart, is big enough for a human child to crawl through. More facts about

Summary Of Electromyography
Tennis elbow occurs when the wrist extensor tendon becomes inflamed as a result of overuse or
repetitive trauma. A common treatment method is the prescription of a counterforce brace. Our
research interest lies in determining the effectiveness of such a brace. With overuse and repetitive
trauma playing such a huge role in the onset of this injury, it is therefore logical to examine the effect
of the brace on muscular endurance and it s ability to delay the onset of fatigue.
A review of relevant publications was completed to determine what findings have already been
established. Electromyography (EMG) has been used throughout multiple studies, which is useful to
quantify electrical activity within the muscle. We know that an increase in electrical ... Show more

These compensations could skew the EMG by increasing noise, indicating activity of synergistic
muscles. These compensatory movements will not be as apparent in healthy subjects, making the
analysis of the brace more true to ECRB alone. We strive to provide continuity between all subjects
with regard to elbow angle, muscle isolation when using EMG, and brace application technique: such
as tension, and duration of the brace application, so as to reduce chance of the brace coming loose
throughout the course of the experiment. This study is needed because it will provide a well controlled
experiment with use of a healthy population and their subjective exertion, in order to provide a greater
understanding of the counterforce brace and it s effect on muscular endurance.
Previous research provided recommendations to increase both the quality and validity of the research,
but also the overall understanding of the topic. Wadsworth, Nielsen, Burns, Krull, and

Some More Facts About Pediatric Speech Therapy
Some more facts about pediatric speech therapy The parents need to be very observant when it comes
to noticing the all over development of the child. Many times the parents get too upset about the child
s development regarding his responding to the various sounds and noises. Child specialists say that it
is crucial for the child to respond to any conversation or sound in children speech therapy. In many
cases, the parents are not able to detect defects in the speech of the child. By the time they realize it
may be too late. In the case of such problems and defects, the first point is that the parents should not
panic. They have to handle the whole situation with a lot of patience. They should immediately
consult a child expert who works on pediatric speech therapy. Any speech oriented problem can be
cured. But that shall take time. One cannot lose patience.
The critical developmental stages of children can be categorized into too many stages. They mark
major junctures of the child s development regarding the baby s maturity. The children developmental
stages range according to age. At this juncture, they have to acquire consultation from some physician
or child specialist who can give them the solution accordingly. They do not want to falter or create risk
for the child regarding health. These tender stages need guidance and proper tutoring when it comes to
cognitive development. One needs to provide them the best solutions to the problems of the child

Cricket Exothermic Essay

Metabolic Rate of Crickets
Introduction:
The Acheta domesticus, house cricket, has an average metabolic rate of 36.19 (Kolluru, Chappell, and
Zuk 2004). The cricket is an ectothermic organism which means that it has no ability to create heat
inside its own body and must rely on outside sources. (Kolluru, Chappell, and Zuk 2004). An
endotherm by contrast is an organism with the ability to maintain homeostasis including temperature
without the need of outside sources. Warm blooded endotherms, such as humans and most mammals,
maintain a constant body temperature independent of the environment. Birds, and some fish also
classify as endothermic organisms. Endotherms have methods of controlling their internal
temperatures. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, a drop in temperature will decrease the rate of metabolism. This is supported by the graphs
shown above. The ice temperature decreased metabolic rate when compared to the rate at room
temperature. The individual sets of data received by the individual experiment varied among each
other, but overall supported the hypothesis and achieved similar results.

Stereotypes In Cold Blood
In Cold Blood, a book written by Truman Capote, details about a murder case in 1959 in Holcomb.
The four victims in this book where apart of the Christian church which in their community, which
was very ethnically diverse, Christianity was the most popular religion.
In the book we see that Christianity was more than just a religion, it was their way of living. The
villagers went by Gods words and they would socialize in the church. We also notice that in the book
Capote creates the following stereotype: good people are believers of the lord and bad people are
followers of Satan or are lost.
The way that he creates this is by using the following non believers of the lord characters to represent
this stereotype: Perry and Dick. Perry in the story reveals to have homosexual tendencies, which in
Christianity homosexuality is a sin, and Dick represents the seven deadly sins. Dick desires money,
sex, and power while Perry only desires to be loved and to get an education. In the story it is revealed
that Perry at one point was catholic but because of the abuse that he suffered in the catholic orphanage

Naomi IIzuka s Polaroid Stories
Naomi Iizuka, an up and coming playwright, through her plays displays a more vibrant and modern
free style of writing. While her writing style is more animated than the everyday playwright, a number
of common characteristics and themes are emulated from the many plays she s written. Iizuka s works
persistently exemplify a non linear plot, focus on young characters, and have a sense of mystery that
leaves the reader and audience with confusion.
Iizuka s writing often demonstrates a non linear storyline. Storylines frequently seem to jump from
one to another with or without relationship to one another; time is not ordered. This theme is the
defining feature of Polaroid Stories. As the name indicates, the play is more concerned with snapshots
than meaning. This muddled imaging allows the storyline to jump from one picture to another. While
this sort of style may not work so well for most storylines, it definitely does in Polaroid Stories, as it
allows to the reader and audience to experience the world presented in quick snapshots that present the
voices aimless youth of an urban society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

through time (past, present and future), demonstrating that non linear storyline, the core of the play is
focused on the surviving friends as they face the truth of their childhood and try to determine what
exactly went down that weekend. This focus on the past and the childhood of the characters is seen as
in the finale of play where JB, haunted by his past, visits Danielle and tries to make sense of their past

Putting Fins On A Rocket

Japanese American Style Essay
As you look on the television and are constantly bombarded by issues of racial calamity in this day
and age, do you notice a specific unrepresented group? For me and several of my fellow peers, this
answer is clearly a yes. The topic that I m choosing to talk about in relation to this class is the Asian
Advantage or the less well known name, Model minority. From the very beginning of life, Asian
Americans are characterized and limited to a specific subset of life. Often times, this subset is often
seen as positive, therefore negating any consequence or fault that this myth may have.
The model minority myth was created in 1966 by sociologist William Petersen in an article, Success
Story: Japanese American Style , that was published in the New York Times Magazine. In this article,
it talks about the reasons why Japanese Americans have been successful in the United States even
after being condemned into internment camps. The timing of this article, however, was very
convenient in timing because it was released only a year after the Moynihan report, which stated that
the reasons that African Americans were faltering in their own socio economic status was because they
weren t doing what the model minority, Japanese Americans, were doing (Wang 2016).
If you look back in history, even the government is clearly guilty of influencing the public perception
on different groups of people. With the Immigration Act of 1965, it only allowed for skilled and
educated immigrants from Asia

  • 2. The Bell Curve Today, current events in the United States are mired with complex topics and simple answers. Often times articles present information in biased ways, or make completely inaccurate statements in order to emphasize an opinion. This often avoids addressing an issue with a serious discussion of the empirical data and known information on the topic. One specific topic in which data and studies are often presented carelessly or often misinterpreted is in the subject of IQ. According to one of the authors of a controversial book The Bell Curve, Charles Murray says; There s a dirty little secret that we try to expose in the book which is that the conventional wisdom in the media about IQ tests and what they measure and don t measure, and expert opinion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the final points made in The Bell Curve is that by acknowledging IQ as a factor that exists, social policy and decisions made at the macro level can better be tailored to the needs of groups. To prevent a cognitive elite from isolating itself from the rest of society, the book offers a solution in which differences in abilities are recognized, and each individual can have a valued place(1). The bell Curve unsurprisingly is disregarded by many that fear utilizing IQ could have severely negative effects on society s views and treatments of minority groups or historically oppressed groups. While both sides can make a strong case for the value of IQ in modern day society, without an understanding of the experiments and design structure of the tests used to collect data on the subject, both arguments should seem unconvincing. Arguing about IQ is a very sensitive subject, and to be able to do so in a beneficial way the arguments used to discuss the topic should utilize an understanding of principals learned in CBE ... The occupation of Australia involved an inventory of prejudiced and misguided policies against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples that manifested in the dispossession, physical ill treatment, social disruption, population decline, economic exploitation, codified discrimination and cultural devastation of the first people of this land (Vos, Barker, Begg, Stanley Lopez, 2008, p. 471). The Australian Bureau of Statistics (2005) states Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experience lower levels of employment, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait adults in 2002 being more than twice as likely to be unemployed, compared to mainstream Australian adults. According to international research, there is indication that low socioeconomic status is associated with poor health and increased exposure to health risk factors (Blakely, Hales Woodward, 2004; Turrell Mathers, 2000; Carson, Dunbar, Chenhall Ballie, 2007, as cited in Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2008). Data shows that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people without completion of education were more likely to habitually smoke, consume high volumes of alcohol, engage in low levels of exercise and were less likely to eat fruit and vegetables on a day to day basis (ABS, 2008). Other social influences relating to the issue of poor health include low income, unhygienic living conditions and remote location (Healey, 2002). Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with low income have little available funds for purchasing health care and dietary needs and those living in remote areas have restricted access to health facilities and resources (ABS, 2008; Australian HealthInfoNet, 2013). The Sengoku Warring State, 1467 to 1603, was not, as aficionados assume, a world of lasting honor. Loyalties exchanged like yen coins. School board members are instrumental in maintaining the quality and condition of the public schools in a responsible and timely manner. Grover, State Superintendent of Wisconsin, said it this way (EWA, 1989): The state has been spending more money to provide safe housing for its 5,600 prisoners than it has for its 760,000 school children. Endangered Species Act Of 1973 Essay Endangered Species Act of 1973 The Endangered Species Act of 1973 is an environmental policy that is currently having problems with timely implementation of its policies. The current issue interfering with the ability of this policy to perform to the best of its ability is the government s reaction time. The government has been sluggish in reacting to the different species when they become endangered. This may in part be due to interference from lobbyists who may not always be acting in the best interest of the species they claim to be lobbying for. The Endangered Species Act of 1973 was created to protect individual plant and animal species as well as their ecosystems. The act creates two separate groups: the endangered species and the threatened species categories. Endangered species are species that are close to extinction and threatened species are those that have a potential to move onto the endangered list. The Endangered Species Act does not account for how quickly any species can become endangered or extinct if it is not placed on one of the lists and nothing is done to protect it. Yet the great principles of the Revolution have long shaped our thoughts of what it means to be an American. All the events leading up and after the American Revolution will have effects on the common people. The story of George Robert Twelves Hewes helps historians comprehend the part that the common people played in their struggle for freedom and republican ideals they wanted to achieve for the generations to come in the new nation. The common people were important because if they didn t join John Hancock, Samuel Adams, and other wealthy leaders then the American Revolution would have never taken place. The common people made up the bulk of the Continental Army, without convincing the bulk of those people, they would have stayed loyal the King George III. • 30. Sugar Cultivation During The Nineteenth Century Essay In the British Caribbean during the seventeenth and eighteenth century, sugar cultivation came into existence as the Europeans slowly moved away from the production of tobacco. This was done for two main reasons; the first being, the Europeans saw how lucrative the production of the sugarcane crop can be for them and secondly, it would have significantly reduced the cost of sweeteners for both men and women of British descent. Honey, being the only substitution for sugar at the time, was considered to be very expensive and as a result an alternative was needed. In order for this production system to be fully adopted, the Europeans required a labour force that could endure the hardships associated with toiling in the sugar plantation. This is where the enslaved Africans were introduced. To the Europeans, Africans were considered to be much more effective because in their view they were seen as having no soul. These Africans were taken from the West African coast primarily around the Senegal River and Angola, (Campbell 1) placed upon slave ships and brought into the Caribbean to be sold to different estate owners or managers. From then onwards, this was the introduction of slavery and as such this essay would be based upon the book entitled Beyond Massa. This book was written by John F. Campbell, a historian and current History lecturer at the University of the West Indies, which is located at the St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad. In addition to, Mr. Campbell also received ... Operation Barbarossa, as it was known, was launched on 22 June 1941 and completely took Russia by surprise. The widening war raging in Africa and eastern Europe were key distractions for Hitler from his ultimate goal of attacking Russia. Although the British army remained undefeated in the west, Hitler s goal proved an urgency for him to begin moving on the east. Whilst planning was made throughout 1940 for the invasion of Russia, time was favorable towards the Russians and they continued to mobilize their resources and strengthen their defense forces. The invasion of the Germans was a complete surprise as Russian dictator, Josef ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The German army once again succeeded here, with the Ukraine being captured along with 600 000 Russian prisoners. With this success, the push for Leningrad and Moscow began once again, however the situation began to change with autumn rains slowing advances and winter creeping up. It was during the Russian winter that German troops entered Leningrad and began a 3 year siege, however the city never fell. At the same time, one army group reached the outskirts of Moscow but by December night temperatures fell to below 50 degrees, German soldiers lacked adequate clothing, fuel froze in the tanks, weapons jammed and the armies were struggling for supplies. It was then that the Russian army, reinforced with troops from the Eastern front, launched a major counter attack and drove the Germans back 150 kilometers back before they stabilized their line. In the course of the invasion, the Russians had lost over 5 million soldiers and Germany over 1 million, but the German campaign still failed. Though there is not one single causing factor, the Germans had underestimated the Russians who had men to spare and were encouraged by Stalin s message of Nationalism where he called on to defend Mother Russia against the invaders. Germany s military strategy was also flawed as there were too many goals at once and not one principal target ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Summary Of Electromyography Tennis elbow occurs when the wrist extensor tendon becomes inflamed as a result of overuse or repetitive trauma. A common treatment method is the prescription of a counterforce brace. Our research interest lies in determining the effectiveness of such a brace. With overuse and repetitive trauma playing such a huge role in the onset of this injury, it is therefore logical to examine the effect of the brace on muscular endurance and it s ability to delay the onset of fatigue. A review of relevant publications was completed to determine what findings have already been established. Electromyography (EMG) has been used throughout multiple studies, which is useful to quantify electrical activity within the muscle. We know that an increase in electrical ... These compensatory movements will not be as apparent in healthy subjects, making the analysis of the brace more true to ECRB alone. We strive to provide continuity between all subjects with regard to elbow angle, muscle isolation when using EMG, and brace application technique: such as tension, and duration of the brace application, so as to reduce chance of the brace coming loose throughout the course of the experiment. This study is needed because it will provide a well controlled experiment with use of a healthy population and their subjective exertion, in order to provide a greater understanding of the counterforce brace and it s effect on muscular endurance. Previous research provided recommendations to increase both the quality and validity of the research, but also the overall understanding of the topic. • 35. Cricket Exothermic Essay Elias Kachadoorian Metabolic Rate of Crickets Introduction: The Acheta domesticus, house cricket, has an average metabolic rate of 36.19 (Kolluru, Chappell, and Zuk 2004). The cricket is an ectothermic organism which means that it has no ability to create heat inside its own body and must rely on outside sources. (Kolluru, Chappell, and Zuk 2004). An endotherm by contrast is an organism with the ability to maintain homeostasis including temperature without the need of outside sources. Warm blooded endotherms, such as humans and most mammals, maintain a constant body temperature independent of the environment. Birds, and some fish also classify as endothermic organisms. Endotherms have methods of controlling their internal temperatures. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, a drop in temperature will decrease the rate of metabolism. This is supported by the graphs shown above. The ice temperature decreased metabolic rate when compared to the rate at room temperature. • 39. Stereotypes In Cold Blood In Cold Blood, a book written by Truman Capote, details about a murder case in 1959 in Holcomb. The four victims in this book where apart of the Christian church which in their community, which was very ethnically diverse, Christianity was the most popular religion. In the book we see that Christianity was more than just a religion, it was their way of living. The villagers went by Gods words and they would socialize in the church. We also notice that in the book Capote creates the following stereotype: good people are believers of the lord and bad people are followers of Satan or are lost. The way that he creates this is by using the following non believers of the lord characters to represent this stereotype: Perry and Dick. Perry in the story reveals to have homosexual tendencies, which in Christianity homosexuality is a sin, and Dick represents the seven deadly sins. Dick desires money, sex, and power while Perry only desires to be loved and to get an education. • 40. Naomi IIzuka s Polaroid Stories Naomi Iizuka, an up and coming playwright, through her plays displays a more vibrant and modern free style of writing. While her writing style is more animated than the everyday playwright, a number of common characteristics and themes are emulated from the many plays she s written. Iizuka s works persistently exemplify a non linear plot, focus on young characters, and have a sense of mystery that leaves the reader and audience with confusion. Iizuka s writing often demonstrates a non linear storyline. Storylines frequently seem to jump from one to another with or without relationship to one another; time is not ordered. This theme is the defining feature of Polaroid Stories. As the name indicates, the play is more concerned with snapshots than meaning. This muddled imaging allows the storyline to jump from one picture to another. While this sort of style may not work so well for most storylines, it definitely does in Polaroid Stories, as it allows to the reader and audience to experience the world presented in quick snapshots that present the voices aimless youth of an urban society. ... • 42. Japanese American Style Essay As you look on the television and are constantly bombarded by issues of racial calamity in this day and age, do you notice a specific unrepresented group? For me and several of my fellow peers, this answer is clearly a yes. The topic that I m choosing to talk about in relation to this class is the Asian Advantage or the less well known name, Model minority. From the very beginning of life, Asian Americans are characterized and limited to a specific subset of life. Often times, this subset is often seen as positive, therefore negating any consequence or fault that this myth may have. The model minority myth was created in 1966 by sociologist William Petersen in an article, Success Story: Japanese American Style , that was published in the New York Times Magazine. In this article, it talks about the reasons why Japanese Americans have been successful in the United States even after being condemned into internment camps. The timing of this article, however, was very convenient in timing because it was released only a year after the Moynihan report, which stated that the reasons that African Americans were faltering in their own socio economic status was because they weren t doing what the model minority, Japanese Americans, were doing (Wang 2016). If you look back in history, even the government is clearly guilty of influencing the public perception on different groups of people.
