Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. WSU is a public state coeducational university.
Its full time faculty is 1,178. Its student to faculty is 14:1. In order to get into WSU, the following is
required: a high school diploma, GED is accepted, SAT or ACT, minimum high school GPA is 2.0,
and a high school transcript. The entrance difficulty is considered medium, More than 75% of
freshmen were in top 50% of their high school class and scored over 1010 on SAT or over 18 on ACT;
about 85% or fewer of all applicants accepted (Career Cruising: Veterinarian). Although WSU is
difficult to get into, and the competition for vet tech is high, WSU has one of the best veterinarian
medicine classes. The total estimated expenses for an instate undergraduate is $15,094. Another

Analysis Of Does Trying To Be Happy Make Us Unhappy
In Adam Grant s essay entitled Does Trying to Be Happy Make Us Unhappy , in the first sentence the
author claims that in the pursuit of happiness that many try to achieve, that path tends to have the
inverse effect and actually make one unhappy. The author does this with the use of studies that directly
correlate with a story of an individual by the name of Tom, and his struggles in life due to him
focusing on trying to be happy, and that making him unhappy in due. The author starts with this to
draw in readers to understand what it is that the essay will be discussing in future paragraphs. In the
beginning of Adam s essay he stars by leading off with the claim that will be continued to be fought to
be proven throughout the entire essay. The claim is that the more value that people place on happiness,
the less happy they became . He then uses the rest of the second paragraph and the third to tell the
story of a man named Tom, a man who is trying to find happiness. The story goes that Tom became
obsessed with happiness, longing for a career and a culture that would provide the perfect match for
his interests and values. After Tom had graduated from college he moved to several different states
and countries including New York, London,Behind,Germany, Montreal, and Pittsburgh. The use of
this long story is to give plenty of evidence to work towards in further paragraphs and points to help
drive the point. This story is also uses a common technique to give a single extreme story so it seems
as though this is the most common occurrence. The overall main purpose of this chunk of paragraphs
was to give an example that could be dissected and pasted around using the points that would later be
focus points in later paragraphs. After telling the story of Tom, Adam begins to dissect the story by
stating the hook of there being four primary different mistakes that Tom had made. He follows that by
stating the leading point of the paragraph by stating The first blunder was in trying to figure out if he
was happy. When we pursue happiness, our goal is to experience more joy and contentment . This line
will drive the rest of the paragraph into the explanation of the point made. It begins with the author s
idea on how

Kmart Sears Essay
Kmart, Sears and ESL: How a Hedge Fund Became one of the World s Largest Retailers
1. Describe recent trends in the hedge fund and private equity industry and the growing overlap
between the two.
A: Hedge funds, historically, were more interested in the buying and short selling of defaulted or near
default bonds within a few weeks or months. This strategy was more of a short term, exit focused
strategy. Now, however, some hedge funds are becoming more interested in the restructuring and long
term controlling of attractive assets. Hedge funds stakes in these companies are then transformed into
equity from the arising new entity. Private equity is split up into Venture Capital and Leveraged
Buyout funds, with a little made up of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A: Kmart was, in the late 1970s, much larger than the famous superstore giant called Wal mart with
sales 20x that of Wal mart s and roughly 850 more stores nationwide. However, Kmart s sales stayed
consistently stagnant, while Wal mart became the giant it is now. A poor supply chain, unfriendly store
layout, among other things, created a huge disadvantage versus other big box retailers. In 2001, Kmart
made a tragic decision to cut costs close to Wal mart s famous everyday low price , but by doing so,
took on huge losses and sold items well below cost. This resulted in a lack of liquidity and the ending
result of filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Hedge funds started studying the value of Kmart s distressed assets, but none had the capital nor the
confidence to amass a controlling stake in the defaulted bonds. The bonds wouldn t be sold at par
value, but they would be sold for either cash through the sale of assets or bondholders would receive
equity in the new company emerging from bankruptcy. Bankruptcy was considered an opportunistic
time to acquire businesses that had strong synergies with existing, healthy companies of the same
industry. However, when one sector is struggling to stay afloat, other companies aren t usually able or
willing to commit the cash to acquiring the failed company and thus financial buyers step in.

Essay about The Inspiring Story of Jacqueline Saburido
Kayla Geistman Geistman 1

English 1020 3rd period

The inspiring story of Jacqueline Saburido Advertisements posted on the website
facesofdrunkdriving.com share multiple stories of people who were unexpectedly struck by drunk
drivers. There was one story in particular that stood out to me more than the others and that was
Jacqueline Saburido s. This advertisement makes a powerful statement about how drunk driving can
not only kill someone, but can also scar someone for life. The goal of the organization that posted this
advertisement is to never drink and drive. It is not worth risking your life, someone else s life, or

The ones who are still alive and learning to strive with their injuries are the real victims.
In Jacqueline s extreme case, she was with five friends driving home one night when a drunk driver
swerved into their lane and hit them head on. Two of her friends died in the accident while she was
left in the burning car. Jacqueline suffered from third degree burns on 60% of her body, but the
inspiring part is yet to come. Jacqueline is not only alive and striving, but she is also learning to put
her life back together and continue with life as normally as possible. But exactly how possible is that
when you are left with noticeable deficiencies? Jacqueline was only 20 years old when the accident
happened. She had recently decided to take a break from college to move to America from Venezuela
to study English. With her injuries, she was not able to continue her college education or help her dad
run his air conditioning factory. But even with this, Jacqueline still hopes to get married and have kids
someday. She is aware that this may not be possible, but she is living life day by day hoping for a
miracle. Although this advertisement is effective, it is a bit extreme. For me, looking at the shocking
physical change of Jacqueline after the accident was depressing, but I was able

Analysis Of Perfection Wasted By John Updike
What We Lose Through Death of Others
An Explication of John Updike s Perfection Wasted
This poem dramatizes the conflict between losing someone s personality through death and the magic
within our own separate worlds. In the poem personality is the most important part of life because it
cannot be replicated by any person in the world because every person s personality is different and
unique in its own way. The personality that is shown in the poem is that the speaker is happy and full
of magic. John Updike uses this poem to tell a story through mostly imagery. The impression I
received throughout the entire poem is the cycle of life.
The author of this poem, John Updike was born on March 18, 1932 and died on January 27, 2009. He
was influenced by several different people such as: William Shakespeare, James Joyce, Marcel Proust,
John Barth, and many other people. One of his famous quotes that I like is [d]reams come true;
without that possibility, nature would not incite us to have them. John Updike wrote many different
things. He wrote short stories, poems, and novels. John Updike s inspiration came from all over. All of
the people that inspired him came from different places.
The main theme in this poem is that one s ways or personality cannot be remade by someone. People
can imitate what a person does or how a person acts, but they will never be able to replicate it one
hundred percent. The speaker in this poem talks about how when someone dies their personality will
be lost forever because it cannot be reperformed by someone else, not even their closest friends or
family members. Imitators and descendants aren t the same. (Line 14) A person can be near someone
for twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, fifty two weeks in a year and still not be them exactly.
When someone dies, there will be glimpses of them in others that they have touched through their
actions, but they will never fully see them in just one single person. They work on making the most
perfect personality for themselves throughout their entire life just to see that when they die it dies with
them. When someone works this hard on something they do not want it to end. They make people
happy by using it, they help people by using

Climate Change In The Arctic
Environmental change in the Arctic has been a subject of recent interest within the discourse of global
warming, climate change, and indigenous rights; however, scholars have yet to examine the
importance of 20th century racial, cultural, and environmental interactions within Northern Canada.
Specifically, the Northern areas of Ontario, Quebec, and Manitoba provide interesting and important
issues that are critical to current discussions of global warming, climate change, and water rights and
quality because of their location to the Hudson Bay and the intertwined environmental experience.
Unlike other areas of Northern Canada, areas in Northern Quebec, Manitoba, and Ontario are subject
to multiple political systems (i.e. provincial, federal, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Morton initiated the call to Canadian historians to rethink their views on the North. Morton, in his
major book The Canadian Identity (1961) and his address to the Royal Society of Canada in 1970, The
North in Canadian Historiography, directly addressed the defining and representation of the North in
historical writing. Following, Canadian historians began examining the environment and the north in
new and crucial ways. Crosby (1986) deals with the global history of European imperialism and
ecological repercussions of biological imperialism; Nuttall (1998) explores the ways that indigenous
peoples have engaged in political activities concerning environmental and sustainable development as
well as the models indigenous groups have made for inclusion of indigenous values and knowledge in
global environmental policies; Berkes, Huebert, Fast, Manseau, and Diduck (2005), resulting from a
project undertaken by the Ocean Management Research Network, illuminates the nature of Arctic
environmental development, globalization, climate change, and technological advancement to socio
cultural life and the impacts on the environment. Piper (2009) examined how lakes facilitated the
industrial transformation of Subarctic Canada in the nineteenth century. Recent research, as part of
SSHRC funded research project Northern Exposures: Science, Indigenous people, and Northern
Contaminants, investigates the attempts of Aboriginal communities,

Public Administration Through Different Forms Of Management
The major theme prevalent throughout this week s readings is a detailed look at the study of public
administration through different forms of management.
The two main forms of management discussed in the passages by Shafritz Hyde (2012) and Chester
Barnard (1968) are scientific management and human relations school of management. The theory of
scientific management, first introduced by Frederick W. Taylor (1912, pp. 37 39) proposes that the
driving force behind a man s work is receiving a monetary reward. On the other hand the theory of
human relations, as suggested by Mary Parker Follet (1926, pp. 58 65) and later validated by the
Hawthorne experiments conducted in the 1930s (Shafritz and Hyde, 2012) propose that the driving

He (Barnard, 1968, pp. 65 81, 114 123, 186 199, 215 234) emphasized on the point that there was a
mutually dependent relationship between a formal and informal organization, and in order to achieve a
successful running organization (whether formal or informal) the executive/superior should ensure
that both the needs of the organization as well as the needs of the employee are met equally.
William Willoughby (1918, pp. 40 43), did prominent work in the field of public administration. One
of his most prominent work is on budgetary reform. Willoughby shared a similar school of thought as
Frederick Taylor, based on the principles of scientific management. Both Willoughby and Taylor,
through their own school of thoughts concluded on the same point that the driving force behind
management/administrative/individual ultimately is monetary/financial. Years later came along the
Luther Gulick, with the Theory of Organization (1937, pp. 81 89), who again shared Frederick Taylor
s ideology of taking a scientific approach to management. Gulick (1937, pp. 81 89) was famously
known for his mnemonic on the seven major functions of management: planning, organizing, staffing,
directing, coordinating, reporting and budgeting.
Weber s work on bureaucracy (1922, pp. 44 49) is considered the basis for the subject. Weber s main
idea of organizations being

Analysis Of Ransom Of Red Chief By O Henry
In the Ransom of Red Chief by O. Henry the two main characters, Bill and Sam, plan on kidnapping a
kid in hopes of getting some money out of the ransom. Bill and Sam kidnap Ebenezer Dorset s boy,
Johnny, because they know that Dorset has a lot of money. The one thing they didn t know was how
annoying Johnny really was. A lesson that this story shows is that plans can change.
Towards the beginning of the story the plan already starts to change. This happens when they kidnap
Johnny. Bill tries to bribe him with candy as a way to get him into the van. This doesn t go as planned.
The story says The boy catches Bill neatly in the eye with a piece of brick... That boy put up a fight
like a welterweight cinnamon bear; but, at last, we got him down in the bottom of the buggy and drove
away. This shows that even before much begins to happen plans aren t going as Bill and Sam thought
they would. After that, they take him to the cave, where they plan to keep Johnny, and the boy and Bill
play Indian. Johnny didn t even complain about wanting to go home like Sam thought he would. After
the eat Johnny, starts to babble about random things which begins to annoy both Bill and Sam keeping
which keeps them awake for a while. They both soon just forget about it and let it go. ... Show more

Summary Of For That He Look Not Upon Her By George Gascoigne
The poem, For That He Looked Not upon Her by George Gascoigne exemplifies how the speaker
suffered from love, something that many people believe one should feel positive about. The title
delivers a despairing tone by allowing the audience to believe that the speaker can no longer look the
woman he loved in the eye. Conflicting with the despairing tone, the speaker develops a complex
attitude with the use of structure, metaphors, diction, and desire. The structure and tone of the poem
enhance the conflict and hopelessness the speaker is feeling towards the woman he loves and desires.
For the first twelve lines of the poem there is an abab rhyming pattern. This ties into the despairing
and desirable tone and how the rhyming scheme can be an example of the speaker constantly going
back and forth between emotions for this women. For example, And that mine eyes take no delight to
range About the gleams which on your face do grow. (Gascoigne 3 4) are two phrases that contradict
the speakers feelings. Stating that his eyes take no delight in range can refer to the speaker finding no
use or happiness in looking at the woman. Although, he then mentions the gleams upon her face
growing, giving the audience the idea that even though the speakers love for the woman causes him
deep despair, he still desires her enough to describe her features in attentive detail; in this example the
gleams on her face. This shows the back and forth pattern and the speakers struggle when it comes

Entrepreneur Characteristics
Are You Cut Out to Be a Successful Entrepreneur?
ABSTRACT
First, there was an interview with a successful entrepreneur. Second, there was a talk on
entrepreneurship by a guest speaker, Mr. Azmi Ahmad (the CEO of Skali.com) and later, an elevator
speech by fellow students on various issues related to entrepreneurship. This collective information
and some reading on entrepreneurship journals, books and articles have brought to the idea on writing
this paper, towards certain perspective, on successful entrepreneurial characteristics. This paper
examines the myths associated with what it takes to be an entrepreneur, the profiles and the common
characteristics among these successful entrepreneurs. INTRODUCTION

iii. Sense of Urgency
Entrepreneurs have a never ending sense of urgency to develop their ideas. Inactivity makes them
impatient, tense, and uneasy. They have drive and high energy levels, they are achievement oriented,
and they are tireless in the pursuit of their goals. iv. Comprehensive Awareness
Successful entrepreneurs can comprehend complex situations that may include planning, making
strategic decisions, and working on multiple business ideas simultaneously. They are farsighted and
aware of important details, and they will continuously review all possibilities to achieve their business
objectives.
v. Realism
Entrepreneurs say what they mean and assume that everyone else does too. They tend to be too
trusting and may not be sufficiently suspicious in their business dealings with other people.
vi. Conceptual Ability
Entrepreneurs possess the ability to identify relationships quickly in the midst of complex situations.
They identify problems and begin working on their solution faster than other people. vii. Status
Requirements
Entrepreneurs find satisfaction in symbols of success that are external to themselves. Successful
entrepreneurs find their satisfaction of status needs in the performance of their business, not in the
appearance they present to their peers and to the public. viii. Interpersonal Relationships
Entrepreneurs are more concerned with people s accomplishments than with their feelings.

Digital Forensics And The Constitution
DIGITAL FORENSICS AND THE CONSTITUTION
Daniel J. Riggleman
Mount Aloysius College
DIGITAL FORENSICS AND THE CONSTITUTION
Until recently, forensic scientists needed only to study physical evidence to determine what had taken
place at a crime scene. This consisted of gathering fibers and samples of any bodily fluids left behind
and also taking note of every aspect of the crimes scene to determine what had happened. In today s
age, that is all still necessary for most crime scenes; however, there is a new frontier for criminals to
commit illegal acts. This new frontier is the internet. Cyber crime has become increasingly prevalent
in recent years. This rise of new technology is forcing the field of forensic science to adapt in order to
investigate cyber crimes as well. With the advent of personal computers, the science of forensics has
been forced to evolve with the times and as a result the field of digital forensics has developed. While
many of the same principles can be applied, special considerations in regards to how the 4th
Amendment of the Constitution applies to the practice of digital forensics must be taken.
Origins of Forensic Science
The origins of forensic science can be traced back thousands of years. The first mention of scientific
method being used in regards to solving crimes can be found as early as the Egyptians (Jost, 2009) .
This timeline of forensic science can be further traced to ancient Greeks where the famous Greek
physician Hippocrates gave testimony

The Kokopelli Composition By Elena De Compostela
The average person could look at a painting, and not think twice about the underlying meaning behind
the piece itself. Art is a creative way to express emotion. while many miss the hidden meanings, there
are certain individuals who have an infatuation with art. For Example, Elena de Compostela has
paintings that will engulf the imagination of those looking at the painting, but will also leaving that

than others to understand. Elena de Compostela did a wonderful job at creating hidden connections

A Change of Heart in Shakespeare s MacBeth
Macbeth Analytical Essay In life, having a change of heart throughout the course of a short period of
time can almost be seen as impossible whereas in Shakespeare s Tragedy of Macbeth the character,
Lady Macbeth, has difficulty maintaining her evil ways. The Tragedy of Macbeth, set in 11th century
Scotland and England, is about the conflict the main character, Macbeth, experiences brought about by
three witches misleading prophecies. Throughout the play, we see Macbeth contemplate between what
is morally right. His wife, Lady Macbeth, easily adds fuel to the fire by antagonizing her husband s
ego. Lady Macbeth uses her manipulating and conniving ways to get what she wants out of life. Her
character transforms throughout the play from a ruthless woman, who will do anything for power no
matter the cost, to someone overwhelmed by guilt due to her devious actions. Being a merciless
character that Lady Macbeth is, it is no surprise that she is one of the main contributors to her husband
s murderous actions. In the beginning of The Tragedy of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is driven by her
husband s impending success. She is determined and will do anything to make sure Macbeth s seat on
the throne is ensured even if that means manipulating him into doing what she wants. An example of
her strong minded ways can be see when she received the letter from Macbeth. While reading the
letter, she questions Macbeth s strength and wonders if he is too kind to go through with the plan.

The Russian Revolution began in 1917, with two significant revolts occurring that year. By 1924
Russia became the United Soviet Socialist Republic, and new leader Joseph Stalin leads with harsh
dictatorship. His goals for industrializations included unrealistic quotas for workers, peasants were
treated poorly and he created a secret police which terrorized citizens. George Orwell, angry that
people in Europe admired Soviet Russia, wrote Animal Farm as a critical novel about Joseph Stalin.
Many may argue that his novel is an inaccurate portrayal as Vladimir Lenin is omitted, however

Old Major was an aged boar who felt the need for change in manor farm. He introduces the theories
and ideas on which the rebellion is based and it is his intention to simplify it suitably so that the

are equal (Orwell 4). Old Major spoke of Animalism, where he expounds on equality, as no animal is
better than the other. Everyone is equal to each other, one of the main aspects of communism. This
corresponds to Marx s vision of communism where the proletariat is equal with the bourgeoisie as he
believes, class distinctions have disappeared (Marx 1848). Both focus on a classless society, where
everyone is equal. As Marx stood for the rights of the people, so Old Major intended to institute a
philosophy that would free the animals from human tyranny, creating an equal and fair system with no
class structure. Old Major dies before he can see his dreams become reality, similar as Karl Marx died
before his theories could change the face of history. Orwell shows how there are positive intentions

Essay on Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Generalized anxiety disorder(GAD) is much more than the normal anxiety people experience
everyday. It is a chronic condition that is chracterized by excessive worry and anxiety, even though
there aren t any reasonable explanations for the cause. It is diagnosed when a person spends a least 6
months worrying excessively about numerous everyday problems. People who suffer from GAD
always anticipate the worst. They frequently worry about family, money, work or their health. Just
getting through each day provokes anxiety. Individuals with GAD are usually referred to as Worry

suffer from more severe types of anxiety disorders such as panic disorder and severe phobias. If the
impairment from GAD is mild, they are usually able to work and function in most social events. When
the impairment is more severe, it can be debilitating making it almost unbearable to perform simple
daily activities.
Approximately 4 million Americans suffer from GAD, about 2.8% of the U.S. adult population
between the ages of 18 54. GAD usually strikes in childhood or adolescence, but can begin in
adulthood.(2) It affects women more often than men. The reason that females have higher rates than
males for most anxiety disorders has not been clearly identified. Research suggests that the role of
gonadal steroids in women may be a contributing factor for their higher rate of anxiety disorders.
Women also experience a wider range of stressful life events as compared to men, who react to a more
limited range of stressful life events. Other researchers think GAD may be transferred through genes.

Indian Writing in English
Chapter 1 Introduction Indian writing in English has a comparatively short but highly stimulating
history. In 1793, Sake Dean Mahomed wrote conceivably the first book by an Indian in English, called
The Travels of Dean Mahomed . However, most early Indian writing in English was non fictional
work, such as biographies and political essays. This began to change in the late 1800s, when famous
Indian authors who wrote mostly in their mother tongue, began to try their hand at writing in English.
In the early 1900s, Rabindranath Tagore began translating his works from Bengali to English. During
the start of 1917 Dhan Gopal Mukerji wrote a number of stories mostly for children with Indian setup.
He was honored with the Newbery medal in 1928 for Gay Neck, the Story of a Pigeon. Soon after, a
whole new generation of Indian authors, who wrote almost exclusively in English appeared. Starting
in 1935 with R.K. Narayan s most famous collection titled Swami and Friends and Mulk Raj Anand s
Untouchable followed by Raja Rao s book Kanthapura in 1938.The thing that distinguished Narayan
s, Anand s and Rao s works from the Indian authors before them was the use of Indianess in their work
which can be very well seen in terms of the words and style they used. They also brought forward the
story of the Indian common man. This gave birth to new ranks of Indians reading English literature.
Their works were the precursors to the magnificent

Movie Review We Were Soldiers Once Essay
Movie Review: We Were Soldiers Once Angela Lewis Student ID# 5849

Dr. Kenneth Miller
There is a plethora of exemplary leadership examples depicted in the movie entitled We Were Soldiers
Once. Mel Gibson was brilliant in his leading role as Lt. Colonel Hal Moore who led his brigade into
battle in Vietnam by being and doing exactly what he expected of his troops. He led by example. He
modeled the way. He also exemplified the same leadership qualities portrayed on the battlefield in his
roles as father and husband. Not only did Moore signify leadership qualities in his roles, but he
expressed his commitment to leadership at all levels of his battalion by delegating that responsibility

In so doing, they empower their subordinates and build their confidence.
This is vital to a thriving organization because empowerment says that the leader will stand behind
you and support you when the going gets tough. He was also very direct and honest. He gave them no
false hope by being straightforward with them about the possibility of not coming home alive.
However, he did promise that they would all come home, dead or alive. Leaders have to be authentic
and even at the worst possible outcome show integrity. This is how one creates a climate of trust and
creating a climate of trust should be a leader s first order of business. If there is mutual trust among the
leader and his constituents, they can carry out their assignment with diligence, commitment and
empowerment; when subordinates feel empowered they can move forward with creativity and
initiative.
Colonel Moore demonstrated his creativity in the scene where the cannon would not fire because it
was too hot and they had no water supply to cool it off. He showed that he was a leader who could
think on his feet and improvise. He stood up and starting pissing on the cannon to cool it off and
ordered his men to do the same. In war, and many times in business and personal

How Did Jeremiah s Corrupt Kings
Jeremiah
Judah s corrupt kings
Jeremiah is commonly known as the weeping prophet because of his deep commitment to and
empathy and compassion for the people of Judah; to whom he was chosen to chastise. He was a
prophet during the reign of five kings including: Josiah, Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and
Zedekiah. King Josiah had brought about reform throughout Judah and Jerusalem, restoring the people
to proper worship of God. However, when the king died, subsequent kings returned to the corrupt
religious practices of: idolatry, child sacrifice, and worship of Baal and other false gods, which had
been established by previous kings. Although God had withheld his wrath during King Josiahs reign;
it would eventually fall upon Judah because of the sins and evil that the other kings had promoted.
Jeremiah s calling
When God first called Jeremiah, Jeremiah argued that he was too young to speak for God. However,
God reminded him of who had been in control of his life and future all along, Before you were born I
set you apart (Jeremiah 1:5). God charged Jeremiah with the purpose to deliver the ... Show more

Additionally, he promised that the Messiah s family line would survive through a righteous Branch
when the time was right (Jeremiah 23:5). That righteous Branch was ultimately realized through the
life and death of Jesus Christ. Jeremiah knew pain and heartache. He knew what it was like to feel all
alone in this world, to feel that God had forsaken him. Despite his attempts to change the trajectory of
their lives, he helplessly witnessed the people of Judah refuse to heed his warnings and continue in a
life of sin and moral corruption which led to their ultimate collapse and destruction. Yet, throughout
his ministry God offered Jeremiah nuggets of hope for the

Twine Poem
The steeples are white in the wild moonlight, And the trees have a silver glare;
Past the chimneys high see the vampires fly, And the harpies of upper air, That flutter and laugh and
stare.
For the village dead to the moon outspread Never shone in the sunset s gleam,
But grew out of the deep that the dead years keep Where the rivers of madness stream Down the gulfs
to a pit of dream.
A chill wind weaves through the rows of sheaves In the meadows that shimmer pale,
And comes to twine where the headstones shine And the ghouls of the churchyard wail For harvests
that fly and fail.

Is Social Media Responsible For The Increase Of Mental...
Is social media responsible for the increase in mental health issues in young people?
For the majority of my generation social media is an integral part of our lives. Since the invention of
the smart phone we have only ever been a few clicks away from our friends and endless information.
However, how is this affecting our mental health? On the one hand it can be argued that it is
enhancing our communication skills yet studies have suggested that offline behaviours such as
bullying are becoming more and more prevalent online.
With the dawn of social media also came cyberbullying. Unlike verbal and physical bullies,
cyberbullies have the power of anonymity and omnipresence, which in some cases can allow them to
be untouchable. One only has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence it is unlikely that participants would be willing to reveal that level of personal information in a
survey. Therefore, this study does not reflect the true number of the sample experiencing suicidal
thoughts. One could argue that cyberbullying is not the fault of social media and if social media had
not come about the other forms of bullying would just have increased in severity. Ybarra and Mitchell
et al (2004) found that: Students who bully online are more likely to report poor parent child
relationships and a lack of parental monitoring of online behaviour . So surely the responsibility of the
increase in mental health problems lies with the parents. The world is always adapting therefore, it is a
parent s duty to make sure that their children are taught the appropriate behaviours for any social
setting.
Yet one could argue that social media provides opportunities for social interaction that those with
mental illnesses such as social anxiety would not otherwise be able to have. 0.8% of the adult
population suffers from agoraphobia, a fear of being in situations where escape might be difficult. So
one could argue that social media provides a lower pressure environment where at least the person is
receiving some social interaction rather than none at all. Someone with social anxiety disorder is
characterized as having a constant phobia of social situations in which they believe they will be

Epic of Beowulf Essay
Alliteration in Beowulf
The diction of the Old English poem Beowulf is distinguished primarily by its heavy use of
allliteration, or the repetition of the initial sounds of words.
In the original manuscript version of the poem, alliteration is employed in almost every line (or two
half lines); in modern translations of the poem this is not so. Beowulf uses alliteration [my italics] and
accent to achieve the poetic effect which Modern English poetry achieves through the use of poetic
feet, each having the same number of syllables and the same pattern of accent (Wilkie 1271). In lines
4 and 5 of the poem we find:
Oft Scyld Scefing sceapena preatum
monegum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such stressed alliterative binding together created hundreds of pairs that are used over and over, such
as halig/heofon holy/heaven, dryhten/dugud lord/troop, fyren/feond sin/enemy. The pairs need not be
complementary, but rather can be contrastive, like eadig/earm happy/wretched and wearm/winter
warm/winter. These dictional contrasts provide the listener additional pleasure by surprising his
expectations. The alliteration also includes stressed vowels (Tharaud 34).
Prof. Magoun, in examining the poem, considers it probable that a high percentage of the language in
Beowulf is formulas or phrases repeated from a common bank of phraseology from which all poets
drew their language (88 89). From this common bank the poets drew out what they need based on the
requirements of alliteration. In his essay The Making of an Anglo Saxon Poem, Robert P. Creed agrees
that alliteration was the poet s basis for making his choice of words:
I shall therefore take only a very small portion of Beowulf, eight verses (four lines), and attempt, by
means of references to similar verses and lines in the rest of the poem and in other surviving Anglo
Saxon poems, to illustrate the thesis that the making of any Anglo Saxon poem was a process of
choosing rapidly and largely on the basis of alliterative [italics mine] needs not between individual
words but between formulas (142).
The alliteration in the poem was so

When Men Last Longer In Bed Research Paper
One of the biggest problems that men mention when talking about their sexual health is wishing that
there was a way to last longer in bed. The good news it that there are many ways to increase sexual
stamina and improve your love making techniques. Use these easy ways to last longer in bed and have
a more satisfying experience for both you and your partner.
One of the easiest and most natural ways to increase your time is to change positions. Let the woman
ease on top of you and stay on top. This can also be achieved by literally sitting inside each other. This
is when the man crosses his legs and the woman does too, but she is on the top.
This gives her more control over the tempo and improves both her experience and yours as well.

During intercourse, withdraw the penis and then re enter in the missionary position. This is a great tip
to use when you re tired of the woman always being on top and you want to try something different.
This method is also great for couples that like to experiment since they can easily add their own
acrobatic moves like lifting the legs or even the entire body. By withdrawing during intercourse, this
will slow a man s body and responses down, giving him better technique.
The squeeze technique is a great natural method that makes sex more satisfying and last longer for
both partners. After engaging in foreplay, guys will often feel the need to release immediately. Once
this urge happens, the woman squeezes the end of the penis until the urge goes away.
After releasing, wait a few seconds and then continue. Using this method a few times during foreplay
can make intercourse longer and more satisfying. This may take some time to perfect for both partners
so don t give up if it doesn t seem to be effective the first time

A Brief Note On P2p Vs. P2p
4.1 Description:
A peer to peer (P2P) network is created when two or more PCs are connected and share resources
without going through a separate server computer. A P2P network can be an ad hoc connection a
couple of computers connected via a Universal Serial Bus to transfer files. Peer to peer (P2P)
networking is the networking between the same type of devices. Peers are equally privileged. P2P is
an alternative network model to that provided by traditional client server architecture. In a P2P
network, every machine plays the role of client and server at the same time.
Peer to peer (P2P) is a decentralized communications model in which each party has the same
capabilities and either party can initiate a communication session. Unlike the client/server model, in
which the client makes a service request and the server fulfills the request, the P2P network model
allows each node to function as both a client and server.
In a peer to peer (P2P) network, every machine plays the role of client and server at the same time.
Although a P2P network has a number of advantages over the traditional client server model in terms
of efficiency and fault tolerance, additional security threats can be introduced. Users and IT
administrators need to be aware of the risks from propagation of malicious code, the legality of
downloaded content, and vulnerabilities within peer to peer software. Security and preventative
measures should be implemented to protect from any potential leakage of

Prior to taking this class, I considered myself very involved in fashion. I have always enjoyed

I ve started this class was the Jane Elliott exercise, A Class Divided. It made me realize, how even at a
very early age, how prejudice and discriminating we can be. We have no right judging someone by
what they are wearing. We owe it to them, ourselves, and society to get to know someone first. I
thought question number three needed to be re worded or completely eliminated. How can I compare
my interests in women s clothing to other women s interests? Question number four was another
question that I felt needed changed. It is hard to

The Performance Measurement Of The Balanced Scorecard
Balanced Scorecard
A performance measurement tool
The balanced scorecard (BSC) is an extensively used performance measurement tool introduced to
take the strategy and vision of the business into real action from four perspectives: financial,
customers, internally progress and learning and grow. (Kaplan and Norton, 1996) From all these four
perspectives, it can be seen that this measurement tool is different from others because it concentrates
on both financial and operational information rather than only financial figures which make the tool
provide a more comprehensive of the business to shareholders and customers. In these years, BSC has
developed from the performance measurement tool to a strategic management system. ( Kaplan and
Norton, 1996, p 37) However, this essay aims at introducing the balanced scorecard as a performance
measurement from its origins, why business needs it, how it can be utilized, how the business can get
benefits from adopting this measurement tool and what potential problems and limits it has.
In the modern business world, intangible assets take a larger proportion than tangible assets in the
structure of total assets because the modern business tends to provide service more than products and
shareholders and customers pay more attention to the intangible assets rather than tangible assets.
However, the actual value of intangible assets is difficult to calculate and present in the real business.
In this situation, the balanced scorecard is

Do you agree with the view that in domestic policy, Wolsey was successful as the king s chief

When answering this essay I am going to measure Wolsey s success on his ability to please Henry. The
different categories which I am judging Wolsey s success are; finance, religion, law and order,
parliament and government and admin.
The first domestic policy category I am going to look at is government and admin. One of the
successful acts that Wolsey achieved in this category was centralising the local government. Doing
this brought things into the central control of the king and restored his power. Wolsey also began to

However, the church was in need of reform and although Wolsey talked about doing it he never did,

Things Done Well During The Presentation

During the presentation there were examples provided from the textbook to allow the trainees to
capture what was being presented and said. This allowed for them to see what was being taught. It was
also helpful that there were examples provided during the presentation to allow for a real life

the process of training. This would allow them to constantly think, especially when there were pop

for people to have their answers answered at any point. In order for this to succeed we had to prepare

Having handouts that had the slides with room to write notes on the side allowed the audience to make

transverse slice through the body is imaged: the image can be segmented to give a quantitative
mea¬sure of volumetric BMD (unlike DXA) of vertebrae, as¬sessing the cancellous bone
independently of surround¬ing cortical bone and possible aortic calcifications (31). QCT can be
performed to the spine (usually two to four vertebrae between T12 and L4 inclusive) on conven¬tional
whole body CT scanners, or to the appendicular skeleton at peripheral sites (radius, tibia) using
smaller, less expensive, dedicated peripheral CT scanners (pQCT). In QCT ... Show more content on

However, although this technique has important ad¬vantages over DXA, it has also disadvantages,
some of which are common to DXA. First, it has been shown that BMD values depend on the bone
marrow composi¬tion: this factor could provide an underestimation of bone mineral content values.
Second, the radiation dose induced by a QCT scan of a hip is significantly higher than that of DXA (1
mSv vs 10 μSv), which limits the applicability of the technique not only for screening but also for
standard diagnostics (36). In addition, this technique has difficulties with quality control, high cost
compared with DXA, necessity of well trained technicians for scan execution (37). For the clinical use
of QCT and pQCT in the man¬agement of osteoporosis, the International Society for Clinical
Densitometry (ISCD) published its official posi¬tion in 2008 stating that QCT of spine and pQCT of
radius predict vertebral and hip fractures, respectively, in post menopausal women

Streetcar Named Desire Meaning
There is a meaning behind everything in life and in the play A Streetcar Named Desire there was a
significance to the name given to the play and a relation to Blanche s life. The Literal meaning of the
title is that there is a street car that is actually named desire that she takes to go visit the Kowalskis.
The car named desire is mentioned twice in the story, in the first scene and also later on in the play
when Blanche tells Stella that she came her in the car named desire in response to Stella asking Haven
t you ever ridden on that street car? . Metaphorically speaking the title has a lot more significance.
Blanche is at the Kowalski place because desire literally brought her there; referring to the street car.
She is also there

How Did Jackie Robinson Break The Color Barrier
Jackie Roosevelt Robinson (January 31, 1919 October 24, 1972) was the first black athlete to break
the color barrier. He stepped out to play Major League Baseball in the 20th century he took the field
for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. Throughout his long career, Robinson became one of the game s
most talented and exciting players, and he also had a .311 batting average. He was also a vocal civil
rights activist.
Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919, in Cairo, Georgia. Jackie was the youngest of five, his
whole family was raised in poverty by a single mother. Jackie had attended high school at John Muir
High School and he had also attended Pasadena Junior College, where he was an excellent athlete and
played: football, basketball, track and baseball. And at that time he was the region s most valuable
player in baseball in 1938. But after all that he had served his time in the military from 1942 to 1944,
Robinson served as a second lieutenant in the United States Army. However he never saw combat ...

Jackie Robinson is perhaps the most historically significant baseball player ever, ranking with Babe
Ruth in terms of his impact on the national pastime. Ruth changed the way baseball was played;
Jackie Robinson changed the way Americans thought. When Robinson took the field for the Brooklyn
Dodgers on April 15, 1947, more than sixty years of racial segregation in major league baseball came
to an end. He was the first acknowledged black player to perform in the Major Leagues in the
twentieth century and went on to be the first to win a batting title, the first to win the Most Valuable
Player award, and the first to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He won major league
baseball s first official Rookie of the Year award and was the first baseball player, black or white, to be
featured on a United States postage stamp (swaine,

Edna St. Vincent Millay s Sonnet I, Being Born a Woman...
Edna St. Vincent Millay s Sonnet I, Being Born a Woman and Distressed
Edna St. Vincent Millay s sonnet, I, Being Born a Woman and Distressed, serves as an excellent
example of a multi faceted piece. From one angle, it is simply a Petrarchan sonnet, written with a
slight variation on rhyme scheme but that variation, taken deeper, reveals new layers of meaning.
Added to Millay s choice of meter and end stop, along with a background of Millay s person, this
sonnet seems not so simple after all.
Millay, though she married in 1923, was known to have extramarital affairs, purportedly with both
women and men. (wikipedia.com) In the context of this particular sonnet, such seems revealing indeed

In Wordsworth s sonnet, he uses only the four rhymes to show that, even in constraining himself, he is
still free. He may be confined to a cell or a rhyme scheme, but it is in such confinements that he finds
liberty. Millay, too, is playing off of this idea simply by being a woman she is confined by society, but
through her poetry she can recognized for the brilliant writer she is; hence, she quite literally frees her
poetic reputation by constraining herself to such strict bounds. The irony in this reference to
Wordsworth s work, however, is the contrasting subject matters he writes of metaphorical nuns, while
she writes of rejection and lovers.
The second interpretation of Millay s constrained rhyme scheme is a fair bit simpler. Her choice of
words throughout the work is calm and cool distanced from the audience. There is none of the anger
that usually accompanies a lovers breakup; Millay is reserved, restraining her emotions. This
translates through to her rhyme scheme, which is also reserved. Here, she pulls back both from her
lover, and from tradition.
The sonnet s meter, on the other hand, is a bit more erratic, and betrays more feeling. Most of the
piece is in a steady iambic pentameter, but it varies four times just after the turn (line 8) of the sonnet.

to spend with startups. Either from a relation prospective or from some successive entrepreneurs, we
expect them to be investors. It would reflect a better understanding between angel investor and startup
entrepreneur, if proper agreements are made at the start of business. Angel Investors might be of
different types which probably contain
Family Investors: This kind of investor is not really a usual Angel Investor at all, except a supportive
family member that knows you . Motivation behind this investment is to support to you as a family
member or friend. These kinds of investments are totally built up with trust, emotions and personal.

  • 3. Analysis Of Does Trying To Be Happy Make Us Unhappy In Adam Grant s essay entitled Does Trying to Be Happy Make Us Unhappy , in the first sentence the author claims that in the pursuit of happiness that many try to achieve, that path tends to have the inverse effect and actually make one unhappy. The author does this with the use of studies that directly correlate with a story of an individual by the name of Tom, and his struggles in life due to him focusing on trying to be happy, and that making him unhappy in due. The author starts with this to draw in readers to understand what it is that the essay will be discussing in future paragraphs. In the beginning of Adam s essay he stars by leading off with the claim that will be continued to be fought to be proven throughout the entire essay. The claim is that the more value that people place on happiness, the less happy they became . He then uses the rest of the second paragraph and the third to tell the story of a man named Tom, a man who is trying to find happiness. The story goes that Tom became obsessed with happiness, longing for a career and a culture that would provide the perfect match for his interests and values. After Tom had graduated from college he moved to several different states and countries including New York, London,Behind,Germany, Montreal, and Pittsburgh. The use of this long story is to give plenty of evidence to work towards in further paragraphs and points to help drive the point. This story is also uses a common technique to give a single extreme story so it seems as though this is the most common occurrence. The overall main purpose of this chunk of paragraphs was to give an example that could be dissected and pasted around using the points that would later be focus points in later paragraphs. After telling the story of Tom, Adam begins to dissect the story by stating the hook of there being four primary different mistakes that Tom had made. He follows that by stating the leading point of the paragraph by stating The first blunder was in trying to figure out if he was happy. When we pursue happiness, our goal is to experience more joy and contentment . This line will drive the rest of the paragraph into the explanation of the point made. It begins with the author s idea on how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Describe recent trends in the hedge fund and private equity industry and the growing overlap between the two. A: Hedge funds, historically, were more interested in the buying and short selling of defaulted or near default bonds within a few weeks or months. This strategy was more of a short term, exit focused strategy. Now, however, some hedge funds are becoming more interested in the restructuring and long term controlling of attractive assets. A: Kmart was, in the late 1970s, much larger than the famous superstore giant called Wal mart with sales 20x that of Wal mart s and roughly 850 more stores nationwide. However, Kmart s sales stayed consistently stagnant, while Wal mart became the giant it is now. A poor supply chain, unfriendly store layout, among other things, created a huge disadvantage versus other big box retailers. In 2001, Kmart made a tragic decision to cut costs close to Wal mart s famous everyday low price , but by doing so, took on huge losses and sold items well below cost. This resulted in a lack of liquidity and the ending result of filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy. Hedge funds started studying the value of Kmart s distressed assets, but none had the capital nor the confidence to amass a controlling stake in the defaulted bonds. The bonds wouldn t be sold at par value, but they would be sold for either cash through the sale of assets or bondholders would receive equity in the new company emerging from bankruptcy. Bankruptcy was considered an opportunistic time to acquire businesses that had strong synergies with existing, healthy companies of the same industry. However, when one sector is struggling to stay afloat, other companies aren t usually able or willing to commit the cash to acquiring the failed company and thus financial buyers step in. 3. ... • 6. Analysis Of Perfection Wasted By John Updike What We Lose Through Death of Others An Explication of John Updike s Perfection Wasted This poem dramatizes the conflict between losing someone s personality through death and the magic within our own separate worlds. In the poem personality is the most important part of life because it cannot be replicated by any person in the world because every person s personality is different and unique in its own way. The personality that is shown in the poem is that the speaker is happy and full of magic. John Updike uses this poem to tell a story through mostly imagery. The impression I received throughout the entire poem is the cycle of life. The author of this poem, John Updike was born on March 18, 1932 and died on January 27, 2009. He was influenced by several different people such as: William Shakespeare, James Joyce, Marcel Proust, John Barth, and many other people. One of his famous quotes that I like is [d]reams come true; without that possibility, nature would not incite us to have them. John Updike wrote many different things. He wrote short stories, poems, and novels. John Updike s inspiration came from all over. All of the people that inspired him came from different places. The main theme in this poem is that one s ways or personality cannot be remade by someone. People can imitate what a person does or how a person acts, but they will never be able to replicate it one hundred percent. The speaker in this poem talks about how when someone dies their personality will be lost forever because it cannot be reperformed by someone else, not even their closest friends or family members. Imitators and descendants aren t the same. (Line 14) A person can be near someone for twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, fifty two weeks in a year and still not be them exactly. When someone dies, there will be glimpses of them in others that they have touched through their actions, but they will never fully see them in just one single person. The two main forms of management discussed in the passages by Shafritz Hyde (2012) and Chester Barnard (1968) are scientific management and human relations school of management. The theory of scientific management, first introduced by Frederick W. Taylor (1912, pp. 37 39) proposes that the driving force behind a man s work is receiving a monetary reward. On the other hand the theory of human relations, as suggested by Mary Parker Follet (1926, pp. 58 65) and later validated by the Hawthorne experiments conducted in the 1930s (Shafritz and Hyde, 2012) propose that the driving force ... William Willoughby (1918, pp. 40 43), did prominent work in the field of public administration. One of his most prominent work is on budgetary reform. • 10. Summary Of For That He Look Not Upon Her By George Gascoigne The poem, For That He Looked Not upon Her by George Gascoigne exemplifies how the speaker suffered from love, something that many people believe one should feel positive about. The title delivers a despairing tone by allowing the audience to believe that the speaker can no longer look the woman he loved in the eye. Conflicting with the despairing tone, the speaker develops a complex attitude with the use of structure, metaphors, diction, and desire. The structure and tone of the poem enhance the conflict and hopelessness the speaker is feeling towards the woman he loves and desires. For the first twelve lines of the poem there is an abab rhyming pattern. This ties into the despairing and desirable tone and how the rhyming scheme can be an example of the speaker constantly going back and forth between emotions for this women. For example, And that mine eyes take no delight to range About the gleams which on your face do grow. (Gascoigne 3 4) are two phrases that contradict the speakers feelings. Stating that his eyes take no delight in range can refer to the speaker finding no use or happiness in looking at the woman. Although, he then mentions the gleams upon her face growing, giving the audience the idea that even though the speakers love for the woman causes him deep despair, he still desires her enough to describe her features in attentive detail; in this example the gleams on her face. This shows the back and forth pattern and the speakers struggle when it comes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Riggleman Mount Aloysius College DIGITAL FORENSICS AND THE CONSTITUTION Until recently, forensic scientists needed only to study physical evidence to determine what had taken place at a crime scene. This consisted of gathering fibers and samples of any bodily fluids left behind and also taking note of every aspect of the crimes scene to determine what had happened. In today s age, that is all still necessary for most crime scenes; however, there is a new frontier for criminals to commit illegal acts. This new frontier is the internet. Cyber crime has become increasingly prevalent in recent years. This rise of new technology is forcing the field of forensic science to adapt in order to investigate cyber crimes as well. With the advent of personal computers, the science of forensics has been forced to evolve with the times and as a result the field of digital forensics has developed. While many of the same principles can be applied, special considerations in regards to how the 4th Amendment of the Constitution applies to the practice of digital forensics must be taken. In 1793, Sake Dean Mahomed wrote conceivably the first book by an Indian in English, called The Travels of Dean Mahomed . However, most early Indian writing in English was non fictional work, such as biographies and political essays. This began to change in the late 1800s, when famous Indian authors who wrote mostly in their mother tongue, began to try their hand at writing in English. In the early 1900s, Rabindranath Tagore began translating his works from Bengali to English. During the start of 1917 Dhan Gopal Mukerji wrote a number of stories mostly for children with Indian setup. He was honored with the Newbery medal in 1928 for Gay Neck, the Story of a Pigeon. Mel Gibson was brilliant in his leading role as Lt. Colonel Hal Moore who led his brigade into battle in Vietnam by being and doing exactly what he expected of his troops. He led by example. He modeled the way. He also exemplified the same leadership qualities portrayed on the battlefield in his roles as father and husband. Not only did Moore signify leadership qualities in his roles, but he expressed his commitment to leadership at all levels of his battalion by delegating that responsibility to all ... This is vital to a thriving organization because empowerment says that the leader will stand behind you and support you when the going gets tough. He was also very direct and honest. He gave them no false hope by being straightforward with them about the possibility of not coming home alive. However, he did promise that they would all come home, dead or alive. Leaders have to be authentic and even at the worst possible outcome show integrity. This is how one creates a climate of trust and creating a climate of trust should be a leader s first order of business. If there is mutual trust among the leader and his constituents, they can carry out their assignment with diligence, commitment and empowerment; when subordinates feel empowered they can move forward with creativity and initiative. Colonel Moore demonstrated his creativity in the scene where the cannon would not fire because it was too hot and they had no water supply to cool it off. He showed that he was a leader who could think on his feet and improvise. He stood up and starting pissing on the cannon to cool it off and ordered his men to do the same. How Did Jeremiah s Corrupt Kings Jeremiah Judah s corrupt kings Jeremiah is commonly known as the weeping prophet because of his deep commitment to and empathy and compassion for the people of Judah; to whom he was chosen to chastise. He was a prophet during the reign of five kings including: Josiah, Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah. King Josiah had brought about reform throughout Judah and Jerusalem, restoring the people to proper worship of God. However, when the king died, subsequent kings returned to the corrupt religious practices of: idolatry, child sacrifice, and worship of Baal and other false gods, which had been established by previous kings. Although God had withheld his wrath during King Josiahs reign; it would eventually fall upon Judah because of the sins and evil that the other kings had promoted. Jeremiah s calling When God first called Jeremiah, Jeremiah argued that he was too young to speak for God. However, God reminded him of who had been in control of his life and future all along, Before you were born I set you apart (Jeremiah 1:5). God charged Jeremiah with the purpose to deliver the ... • 23. Is Social Media Responsible For The Increase Of Mental... Is social media responsible for the increase in mental health issues in young people? For the majority of my generation social media is an integral part of our lives. Since the invention of the smart phone we have only ever been a few clicks away from our friends and endless information. However, how is this affecting our mental health? On the one hand it can be argued that it is enhancing our communication skills yet studies have suggested that offline behaviours such as bullying are becoming more and more prevalent online. With the dawn of social media also came cyberbullying. Unlike verbal and physical bullies, cyberbullies have the power of anonymity and omnipresence, which in some cases can allow them to be untouchable. One only has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence it is unlikely that participants would be willing to reveal that level of personal information in a survey. Therefore, this study does not reflect the true number of the sample experiencing suicidal thoughts. One could argue that cyberbullying is not the fault of social media and if social media had not come about the other forms of bullying would just have increased in severity. Ybarra and Mitchell et al (2004) found that: Students who bully online are more likely to report poor parent child relationships and a lack of parental monitoring of online behaviour . So surely the responsibility of the increase in mental health problems lies with the parents. The world is always adapting therefore, it is a parent s duty to make sure that their children are taught the appropriate behaviours for any social setting. Yet one could argue that social media provides opportunities for social interaction that those with mental illnesses such as social anxiety would not otherwise be able to have. 0.8% of the adult population suffers from agoraphobia, a fear of being in situations where escape might be difficult. So one could argue that social media provides a lower pressure environment where at least the person is receiving some social interaction rather than none at all. • 24. Epic of Beowulf Essay Alliteration in Beowulf The diction of the Old English poem Beowulf is distinguished primarily by its heavy use of allliteration, or the repetition of the initial sounds of words. In the original manuscript version of the poem, alliteration is employed in almost every line (or two half lines); in modern translations of the poem this is not so. Beowulf uses alliteration [my italics] and accent to achieve the poetic effect which Modern English poetry achieves through the use of poetic feet, each having the same number of syllables and the same pattern of accent (Wilkie 1271). In lines 4 and 5 of the poem we find: Oft Scyld Scefing sceapena preatum monegum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such stressed alliterative binding together created hundreds of pairs that are used over and over, such as halig/heofon holy/heaven, dryhten/dugud lord/troop, fyren/feond sin/enemy. The pairs need not be complementary, but rather can be contrastive, like eadig/earm happy/wretched and wearm/winter warm/winter. These dictional contrasts provide the listener additional pleasure by surprising his expectations. The alliteration also includes stressed vowels (Tharaud 34). Prof. Magoun, in examining the poem, considers it probable that a high percentage of the language in Beowulf is formulas or phrases repeated from a common bank of phraseology from which all poets drew their language (88 89). From this common bank the poets drew out what they need based on the requirements of alliteration. In his essay The Making of an Anglo Saxon Poem, Robert P. Creed agrees that alliteration was the poet s basis for making his choice of words: I shall therefore take only a very small portion of Beowulf, eight verses (four lines), and attempt, by means of references to similar verses and lines in the rest of the poem and in other surviving Anglo Saxon poems, to illustrate the thesis that the making of any Anglo Saxon poem was a process of choosing rapidly and largely on the basis of alliterative [italics mine] needs not between individual words but between formulas (142). • 26. A Brief Note On P2p Vs. P2p 4.1 Description: A peer to peer (P2P) network is created when two or more PCs are connected and share resources without going through a separate server computer. A P2P network can be an ad hoc connection a couple of computers connected via a Universal Serial Bus to transfer files. Peer to peer (P2P) networking is the networking between the same type of devices. Peers are equally privileged. P2P is an alternative network model to that provided by traditional client server architecture. In a P2P network, every machine plays the role of client and server at the same time. Peer to peer (P2P) is a decentralized communications model in which each party has the same capabilities and either party can initiate a communication session. Unlike the client/server model, in which the client makes a service request and the server fulfills the request, the P2P network model allows each node to function as both a client and server. In a peer to peer (P2P) network, every machine plays the role of client and server at the same time. Although a P2P network has a number of advantages over the traditional client server model in terms of efficiency and fault tolerance, additional security threats can be introduced. Users and IT administrators need to be aware of the risks from propagation of malicious code, the legality of downloaded content, and vulnerabilities within peer to peer software. (Kaplan and Norton, 1996) From all these four perspectives, it can be seen that this measurement tool is different from others because it concentrates on both financial and operational information rather than only financial figures which make the tool provide a more comprehensive of the business to shareholders and customers. In these years, BSC has developed from the performance measurement tool to a strategic management system. ( Kaplan and Norton, 1996, p 37) However, this essay aims at introducing the balanced scorecard as a performance measurement from its origins, why business needs it, how it can be utilized, how the business can get benefits from adopting this measurement tool and what potential problems and limits it has. In the modern business world, intangible assets take a larger proportion than tangible assets in the structure of total assets because the modern business tends to provide service more than products and shareholders and customers pay more attention to the intangible assets rather than tangible assets. The main advantage of this technique is that cancellous bone can be exam¬ined separately from cortical bone (30). In particular, in QCT a thin transverse slice through the body is imaged: the image can be segmented to give a quantitative mea¬sure of volumetric BMD (unlike DXA) of vertebrae, as¬sessing the cancellous bone independently of surround¬ing cortical bone and possible aortic calcifications (31). QCT can be performed to the spine (usually two to four vertebrae between T12 and L4 inclusive) on conven¬tional whole body CT scanners, or to the appendicular skeleton at peripheral sites (radius, tibia) using smaller, less expensive, dedicated peripheral CT scanners (pQCT). Most of the piece is in a steady iambic pentameter, but it varies four times just after the turn (line 8) of the sonnet. Three of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
