My First Obsession Is Life
I have 10 obsessions in life. I m not sure if they will ever go away. But life would be no fun without
any obsessions.
My first obsession is life. I love life and what you can do with it. I love the way people laugh at a
joke or become afraid when watching a scary movie. It amazes me how children feel most safe in
their parents arms. And how you learn so much from how other people before you had lived their
life. I think this one of my obsessions because life can be taken away in a blink of an eye. You
never know when your time is up. So enjoying every second in my eyes is how you ll have the best
life possible. My second obsession is family. I have always loved how families looked in a
magazine or on TV. I love that parents will do anything to make sure their children are loved and
safe. And that families do things together and love each other no matter what. Parents that play
outside with the kids and go to games and concerts. When a child gets hurt, there is a parent
there to pick them up. I think this is one of my obsessions because my mom had me taken away
when I was really young. I don t ever remember her ever picking me up when I fell down or
tucking me in at night and kissing me on the forehead. For a while it was my grandma who did
all this but then she got sick, and I had to live with a family friend, and this is where I still live
now. I have always wanted to know what it felt like to have a happy family. A family that comes to
your games because they

Day Shift
Living in our own home was bliss and Redwood City was a wonderful place to live. Our home
was located within walking distance of Broadway; a major street downtown with a movie
theater, several restaurants and interesting stores. Ben Franklin; a five and dime variety store,
sold low cost household items, sundries, seasonal products, health and beauty aids. JC Penny s; a
larger department store, sold furniture and clothing and at Walgreens, the corner drugstore, there
was a diner where shoppers sat at a counter and ordered a hamburger with fries and a milkshake,
or two eggs with two strips of bacon, hash browns and two pancakes any time of day. At the Fox

Many years later, when Ellen brought came to visit Mom with her children on Independence Day,
we watched the parade, in the same way. My sister and I still cherish this memory fondly.
The first summer living in our own home was a time of personal fulfillment. Mom did not approve
of the American School System s three month holiday during the summer, deeming too much
unsupervised idle time as an opportunity for Ellen and me to get into mischief while she and Oma
worked, therefore, as in the previous two summers, Mom enrolled us in Summer School. By this
time, we had been living in the United States for three years and through our association with the
Menlo Park Presbyterian Church and Mom s employment at Raychem, acquired a strong network of
mostly Dutch Indonesians friends. Among them, Eddie and Ina Jonathans became part of our
extended family, and so did the Schardijns, Rudy and Luisa Fredricks, the Hendricks family and

The Political Theory Of The Chilean Economy
Despite the small size of the Chilean economy and its rather relative weight in the global
economy, several accounts acknowledge that Chile was at the forefront of the worldwide
neoliberal experiment since the mid 1970s under the civic military dictatorship that ruled the
nation between 1973 and 1990 (Harvey, 2005a; Klein, 2007; McChesney, 1999; Paley, 2001;
Stiglitz, 2002). Indeed, the Chilean authoritarian regime not only has radically applied neoclassical
theory, but also turns it into the founding philosophy of a new society (ValdГ©s, 1989: 35).
Actually, Chile has been a warm laboratory for the most classic economic trends since the 1950s,
when the so called Klein Saks mission was hired by the Chilean government to analyze the... Show

Specific political projects embodying different schools of thought have fueled three waves of
neoliberalism, with both economic and ethical implications (Ong, 2006). In a first moment, Hayek
and his Homo economicus as the basis of a free political order and Friedman and Becker have
philosophically supported what Thatcher (Thatcherism) and Reagan (Reagonimics) implemented in
the United Kingdom and in the United States in the late 1970s and the 1980s. The Clinton (US)
and the Blair (UK) administrations in the 1990s represent promote the individual internalization of
self governamentality or self responsibility. In this second wave of neoliberalism, the broad social,
political, economic, and cultural principles underneath neoliberalism became common sense and
were naturalized as an individual action. Finally, entrepreneurialism or the communitarian ideal of
responsibility is a third wave of neoliberalism. Therefore, neoliberal policies of shrinking the state
are accompanied by a proliferation of techniques to remake the subjects ; so, neoliberal logic
requires free, self managing, and self enterprising individuals in different spheres of everyday life
(Ong, 2006: 14).
Nevertheless, neoliberalism seems to carry multiple meanings and imply different material
conditions, institutional frames, and symbolic imaginaries (Ong, 2006), depending not only on

Skin Representation Lab Report
The research group carried out a genome wide association to scan for sequence variants that
influence hair color, eye color and skin color in the europeans. Pigmentation in humans is
attributed to the number type and cellular distribution of melanosomes. When different number of
melanosomes are produced, they cause the differences in the skin pigmentation. The experiment
was done with a sample of people from Iceland and Holland. The results of this experiment
showed how the samples were broadly similar despite the fact that icelanders have more red hair,
freckles and green eyes. They carried out two scans for each eye color, hair color and skin
pigmentation traits. There were two overlapping regions on the MC1R on chromosome16 and one
of them is near a strong candidate for a strong... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ultimately summarized the primary and secondary pigmentation traits are associated in the six
regions on the genome. The research allowed us to identify several new variants that account for
differences in the pigmentation. Each of these variants are viewed to have a moderate effect on
pigmentation in Europeans. It has been thought that before migrators bought the light skin species
out of africa 60,000 years back, our ancestors were all dark skinned. It is consistent with the
correlation of human skin pigmentation and proximity to the equator. The results of this research
support the conclusion that most of the pigmentation variants discovered in this study show
positive selection in European populations. The advantage of having a lighter skin pigmentation is
that it facilitates the formation of Vitamin D3 though lighter skin people live in colder areas where
there is low exposure to sunlight/ UV rays. The newly discovered determinants provide promising

The Impact Of Internet On The Field Of Traffic Management
Abstraction
Internet of things is the interconnection of embedded computing elements which can be uniquely
identified and can be accessed from anywhere on this earth, anytime. The interconnection of these
embedded devises is expected to bloom automation in almost all the fields. The future of internet
aims at connecting all the physical things from bicycles to cars to planes, all of these things taking
active participation in the exchange of information about themselves and about their surroundings.
Internet of things will give us access to all the information about a particular thing leading to
different innovative services and increase the efficiency and productivity of the people and
products. This paper studies the Internet of Things, the architecture of Internet of Things, the
elements in Internet of Things and the related technologies, the applications, the current scenario
and the future scope. Also, in details regarding the application of Internet of Things in the field of
traffic management is reviewed in detail.
Introduction:
Today, we have cloud the digital universe of information freely available to us. The current
estimate of the amount of information is 4000 Exabyte in size . A good analogy is 4000 Exabyte
is roughly equivalent to a stack of books from the earth to Pluto and back, 80 times. We only
began to create that less than 20 years ago. Devices like cell phones, iPads allow us to access this

Hurdle Drills
A large number of people in this world often assume that only natural athletes become admirable
athletes. When in reality, the utmost idle individual can become an exceptional athlete with the
aid of hard work, dedication, and practice. The changes don t all have to happen at once. Small
scale steps could be taken to become a star athlete. For example, becoming a star soccer player
could begin with simply practicing ball control. That being forenamed, an average teenager can
become their schools most powerful, sturdy forward on the varsity soccer team by practicing
ball control as their first step. To start off, the individual must gather the needed materials. In this
case, the materials are a soccer ball, a pair of tennis shoes or soccer cleats, a field or yard that has
plenty of open area, and lastly, a rope ladder. Once all of those items are collected, the practicing
can begin. The player must start by training their footwork. This can be done by doing ladder
drills, also known as hurdle drills. Even though these drills are not using a ball, they are still a
crucial element in gaining control over the ball. The drills mentioned will improve hand eye... Show

Jurassic Park Essay
Jurassic Park
The story of Jurassic Park was written about fourteen years ago by a man named Michael
Crichton. His book has now evolved into three movies of Jurassic Park I, II, and III. Steven
Speilberg has taken the story of Crichton is transformed it into one of his action packed, suspense
thrillers.
The first main theme that makes the story of Jurassic Park is its setting. The setting is a huge
factor in the understanding of the story. The story takes place on an isolated island off the coast of
Costa Rica that has become a theme park exhibiting prehistoric dinosaurs. Here dinosaurs roam
unrestricted. The only restraint they have were gates and fences that could easily be knocked down
by the gigantic animals.
The island in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The turning point in both the movie and the book is when the storm comes. A huge hurricane is
going to hit the island dead on. There is nothing the people could do except wait it through. The
storm is more massive then anyone expected and it knocks out the power to the whole island. This
is the point at which the book and movie differ again.
The book tells that the storm knocks out all the power to the island and to all the electrical gates.
This is a major problem for the scientists. This puts their safety in jeopardy. There is now nothing
protecting the people from the dinosaurs because there is no power going through the electric
fences. This is when all hell breaks loose. The dinosaurs realize that they are not being restrained
any more and break loose. They are roaming about the island while the scientists scramble to get
the power back on through a generator. During all the chaos the dinosaurs have already taken out
five people out of the team of ten.
The movie differs a little bit from the book at this point. During the storm all of the scientists go
out to try to get the power back on and to try to stay alive. Raptors have raided the lab and center
of the park and are hungry for some people. The raptors and other dinosaurs take out three people
out of the team of ten in the movie. Like the book the people scramble to get the power on but
decide to start running too. Now in both the movie

Public Policy Vs. Administration
Public Policy and Administration is an interesting and important knowledge for all people. Every
one on this earth, regardless of his profession, hobbies, or religious views, faces these concepts.
This paper is going to describe the concepts of public policy and administration and an importance
of this area for effective and efficient management.
A public policy is an activity that has a good combination between politics and administrative
activities. The major goal of public administration are established and introduced to political actors.
So, a public policy sets the goals for public administration.
The state policy chooses the direction, in which the state develops. Interests of the state determine
the direction of its development. An experienced politician should always be a cautious man who
knows what will be important for people tomorrow and after five or ten years. This quality will
allow him or her to motivate people and to develop the country in needed sectors.
In order to avoid a political crisis, the government should not only clearly determine a list of
priorities for people, but also represent their current and long term interests. This way, the public
policy will be properly developed and will have an accurate strategic line. The government will also
manage to control the situation inside the country and become a significant player in the
international political arena.
According to some scholars, public administration is an organizational and regulating

Adaptations And Applications Of Physical Extremes
Extremophiles: adaptations and applications to physical extremes
On the earth, millions of organisms live in various environments. They need certain temperature,
pH, nutrient growth, certain range of salt, pressure, water and so on. However, some organisms can
live beyond these conditions which mean they can survive in extreme environmental conditions
called Extremophiles (Gupta, Khare et al., 2014). These extreme environments are: highly pressure,
acidic or alkaline region, high temperature or extreme low temperature condition. These organisms
have different characterisation and biochemical mechanism for tolerating some environmental
conditions on the earth. They adopt to live in extreme condition by different enzymes or
biomolecules. There are different types of Extremophiles. For example, thermophiles, acidophiles,
barophiles, radiophiles, halophiles, xerophiles, osmophiles. There are two main types of extreme
conditions: physical (radiation, Temperature, pressure) and geochemical (pH, salinity). These
microorganisms found in various typical environments on the earth. Some grow in the deep sea
where the pressure is very high and some can survive in Antarctica, the place always having ice and
glaciers. Extremophiles can tolerate extreme conditions but also they have to need those
environments for their growth. Extremophiles organisms present in all three domains bacteria,
archaea and eukarya but most of extremophiles are come from archaea group. Archaea have

Speeches form an interpretation of historical events and values which are moulded around the
speaker s opinions and ideology. Paul Keating s Funeral Service of the Unknown Australian
Soldier 1993 and Noel Pearson s An Australian History for Us All 1996, demonstrate a contrast
between how a historical and contextual understanding of these speeches helps create the
necessary apperception on the given audience to convey the speaker s message appropriately.
Despite the fact that both speeches were given in the mid 1990s, they were addressed to different

understood and appreciated by his audience.
Funeral Service of the Unknown Australian Soldier , was addressed by Paul Keating as an
individual, as well as the Australian Prime Minister, the representative of the entire nation. The
purpose was to pay respect to Australians who had fallen in battle with the dedication of a
monument, without glorifying or celebrating Australia s participation in war. As it was addressed
to a mixed audience, the wider Australian community, the themes remained universal, to be easily
appreciated with minimal knowledge and understanding of Australia and it s history in war. This

contextually proven, as he was well known for being extremely critical of war and Australia s
participation in it as an ally. Without the knowledge of Keating s anti war ethics, the speech was
often thought to celebrate war and Australia s participation in it, thus creating a divided reception
of the speech by the audience. Despite this, Keating had substantial social respect because of his
title as prime minister, which resulted in the audience readily accepting his point of view.
The concepts of war and peace are the overarching themes in Pearson s An

18th Amendment Dbq
Most people in American feel like they have to do what is justful for our country. Sometimes
what we believe is right, can become the complete opposite. On January 16, 1919 the 18th
Amendment was passed, but did not come into effect until the following year. This prohibited the
manufacturing, distributing, and selling of all alcoholic liquor but didn t prohibit the
consumption of intoxicating beverages. When they first passed this document they believed
what they were doing was important. To start off, how did history lead up to the banning of
alcohol in all fifty states. Then what issues and questions that they had back then, the debate
today, and how it let up to a revolution. Finally, what s my opinion and how I interpret the
amendment and what is happening today that can relate to this. To begin, how did this
amendment become so popular? For a saloon keeper it was hard to earn profit so they sometimes
introduced vices such as gambling and prostitution into their establishments in an attempt to earn
more. Many Americans considered saloons offensive and for the lower classes. This helped
spark a wave of strong religious revivalism that swept through the United States in the 1820 s and
1830 s. Hundreds protested against alcohol which was driven by mostly religious groups who call
alcohol and drunkenness a national cruse . Many of the followers believe if they abolish it that
abuse and violence would end causing a sober nation. The first temperance legislation appeared

Cleon Bandoo, Nottingham Trent University, 2017. Consumerism
Cleon Bandoo, Nottingham Trent University, 2017
Consumerism is not just the acquisition of things it is the buying of self identity
In contemporary society it almost seems that we are profoundly connected and dependant upon
consumption , surrounding ideologies that suggest that consumer has invaded to an extent that,
when we consume we construct identity, has come to dominate as the new religion of the late 20th
century, (Miller,) these theories can be connected with choicewhich serves to tell us that self
definition and collective definition can be communicated by our consumption practices. Identity
construction is an increasingly important area in the study of consumption. However, it could be
assumed that the concept of choice, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the culture of emulation, this tapping into people s desires comes from the consumer to be able
to emulate the celebrities traits, success, beauty, athleticism, talent etc (Sokolovska, 2016) which
are all situated with the product these celebrities endorse.
However, in challenging the idea of identity as commodity, we could take a Marxist approach
which would often suggest that in late modernity there is a fear with the preoccupation of
spending, trying to fulfill other people s lives and not live our own, the fear that we are losing
touch with more worthwhile values and ways of living (Schor,1999) can be assumed to be
caused by the shift towards mass production. The idea that people have more freedom is to say
that we have more choice, we can argue choice as an illusion that our choices are being dressed
by producers, to support this argument, we could refer to Ted Talks who centers his notions on
the paradox of choice, the idea that choice produces paralysis as opposed to liberation, with so
much to choose from people can not choose at all. (Ted Talks) this notion driven by nature of the
capitalist society in which we live, mass marketization to produce for mass consumption has

Essay On Native American Boarding School
Indians were mean people I m glad I m not an Indian, I thought. These are the thoughts of Merta
Bercier, she was a young Indian at a boarding school. Native Americans were relentlessly forced to
change through education, so that they may fit into the new culture, and so that they may also
become citizens. Likewise, they had no choice when it came to assimilation, there was no running
away. In fact, they weren t even allowed to speak their native language. The girls at St. Lucy s and
the Native Americans both experienced merciless forced assimilation evidenced by the girls and
Native Americans both had to be reeducated to conform, the girls could run away if they wanted
whereas the Native Americans could not, and they both had to learn a new language. Native
Americans were broken in by whites through rigid education. According to C. Blue Clark, they had

their hands and feet were tied, and they were forced to stand in the hall, so if they fell asleep, the

Main Leadership Theories
Introduction Definition of leadership Leadership is an ability of an individual to create sound
decisions and enthuse others to present well. Real leaders are able to set and accomplish
stimulating goals, to seize quick and pivotal deed even in tough situations, to outperform their
contest, to seize computed threats and to persist in the face of failure. Strong contact skills, self
confidence, the skill to grasp others and a inclination to embrace change additionally describe
good leaders. Leadership Theory Interest in association increased across the main portion of the
twentieth century. Main leadership theories concentrated on what qualities discriminated amid
heads and followers, as consecutive theories looked at supplementary variables such as
situational factors and skill levels. As countless disparate association theories have appeared, most
can be categorized as one of five main types: 1.Trait Theories Trait theories accept that people
receive precise qualities and traits that make them larger suited to leadership. Trait theories
frequently recognize particular personality or behavioral characteristics public by leaders. If
particular traits are key features of association, next how do we clarify people who own those
qualities but are not leaders? This question is one of the difficulties in employing trait theories to
clarify leadership. 2.Situational Theories Situational theories counsel that heads select the best
sequence of deed established on situational

Identification of Anthrax Infections
The environmental pathogen I chose from the California Code of Regulations, Title 17 is
anthrax. The anthrax genus is Bacillus and the species is anthracis, it is a Gram positive spore
forming bacillus. The methods of identification for anthrax are three different types the first one
is a skin lesion that has evolved over 2 to 6 days from a papule, through a vesicular stage to a
depressed black eschar, with considerable swelling around the lesion. The second one is a
respiratory illness of abrupt onset followed by the development of dyspnoea progressing to
hypoxia, with X ray evidence of mediastinal widening. The third identification of anthraxis
abdominal distress that is followed by fever and signs of septicaemia which is rare and 90% of
cases are cutaneous anthrax. The incubation period for anthrax for cutaneous is typically 1 day,
for inhalational is within 7 days although incubation periods up to 60 days are possible, and
gastrointestinal is usually for 3 to 7 days. The reservoir for anthrax is soil, infected animals such
as sheep s, goat s horses, and pigs. The mode of transmission for anthrax is when humans handle or
consume products from infected animals, from being bitten by flies who have fed or infected
animals, by inhaling anthrax spores or through cuts and abrasions that become infected with
contaminated soil. The symptoms of anthrax are high fever, chills, or night sweats. Flu like
symptoms and sore throat followed by difficulty in swallowing, enlarged

Finding out a Bit about Sweden
Sweden

Finally, I want to learn about a famous person who was born in Sweden. Those are some of the
thing I hope to learn from doing this project. The first thing I wanted to find out was some basic
information about Sweden found out that armed neutrality has kept Sweden out of a war nearly
for two centuries. Low unemployment a low birthrate and one of the world s highest life

has been good with capitalism like cooperation between the government and labor unions that are

Advertising has become one of the most powerful and effective tools that business uses to launch

We know moms struggle to get their kids to eat well, and we believe our message provides a
reminder that the taste of Hidden Valley Ranch has the power to encourage kids to eat their
vegetables ( New Hidden Valley Ad ). A recent study at the University of California shows that
kids ate 23 percent more vegetables when paired with a moderate amount of ranch dressing (
New Hidden Valley Ad ). This visual advertisement published in multiple target advertising
markets such as the June 2008 volume of Good Housekeeping periodical targets parents,
especially moms, who worry about their children s diets, constantly struggling to get their kids to
eat enough vegetables (Hidden Valley). Hidden Valley uses a common photography strategy in
the advertisement known as encapsulation. Encapsulation is a classic technique used to hijack
your visitor s eyes and create a tunnel vision effect, preventing your eye from wondering
somewhere else in the photo (Gardner). Hidden Valley creates the picture in a way that makes you
look at the ranch being used on the broccoli, almost as if making your eyes focus in on that
particular spot. The ad uses association to connect the viewer to the message of the ad. When
advertisers use association, they attempt to associate their product with the people, values and
lifestyles depicted in the ads. Associations are positive and

Minimum Legal Drinking Age (NDLA)
The study relied on the secondary analysis of qualitative data collected from journals and previous
studies on the minimum legal drinking age (NDLA). In secondary research methodology, a
research uses existing data to answer research questions. The key advantage of using the secondary
research methodology is that it is an inexpensive method to extract already available information.
The only limitation of this method is that information collected does not exactly address the
research question as researchers must analyze qualitative data for recurring themes. The data
collected was to compare and contrast rates of alcoholconsumption, drinking and driving related
deaths of people aged 18 21. This step allowed the researchers to narrow down research

The Deadly Politics Of Industrial Pollution
Nowadays it is common to hear on the news about recent health and environmental scares
especially with the increasing research done about the causes and effects of global warming.
However, life just a century ago was very different. During the early twentieth century, people
trusted industries. Therefore, they did not fight for government regulation of industries or the need
for it to inform them about possible harmful practices done by industries. It took the deaths and
emergence of illnesses of many workers and citizens for the public to start worrying. Gerald
Markowitz and David Rosner discussed this time period with a focus on the lead and chemical
industries in their book Deceit and Denial: the Deadly Politics of Industrial Pollution.... Show more

To please the public the industry also said they would conduct research about the effects of lead,
but the research was funded by the lead industry so they skewed the presentation of the results to
the public. Soon there were also cases reported of lead poisoning in children from their habit of
biting lead painted toys. This time the lead industry tried to distract the public by increasing their
advertisements highlighting the benefits of lead using the mascot of the Dutch Boy Painter and
slogans, such as ethyl is to gasoline what vitamins are to food. However, by the 1970 s with the
introduction of safer elements and the decrease in public support, the lead industry lost its
importance in the world.
The second section of the book focused on the chemical industry, specifically vinyl chloride,
where it was explained there was little known about the effects of chemicals. Because of this, there
was the question of whether a product was to be considered safe until proven dangerous or vice
versa where a product was considered dangerous until proven safe. This time the public showed
greater opposition to the use of vinyl chloride, as environmentalists and labor unions united to
reveal the harmful effects of it. Similar to the lead industry, the chemical industry also fought back
reasoning to the government that only high levels of chemical exposure was harmful to people and

The Death Penalty Is The Punishment Of Execution
The death penalty is the punishment of execution, administered to someone legally convicted of a
capital crime (law.cornell.edu, 2015). The first Congress of the United States authorized the federal
death penalty on June 25, 1790 (deathpenalty.org, 2011). The death penalty can also be referred to
as capital punishment, however capital punishment also includes a sentence to life in prison, as
opposed to strictly executions. A convict can be sentenced to death by various methods including
lethal injection, electrocution, gas chamber, firing squad, and hanging. After the death penalty was
established, many debates have arisen arguing that these methods violate several of the United
States Amendments. Select cases have been accused of violating the Sixth, Eighth, and Fourteenth
Amendments. It is important to note that the judiciary goes through a series of processes prior to
deciding a sentence for a capital crime. Many factors influencing the verdict include proportional
analysis, individualized sentencing, method of execution, and classes of people not eligible of the
death penalty. This paper will discuss brief descriptions of the methods used for executions,
economical issues, the Supreme Court s opinion regarding the death penalty, as well as important
factors that make up the proportional analysis, individual sentencing process, method used, and
determining classes of people who are not eligible for the death penalty. Less popular methods that

America s Postwar Role
During the war, many visions of America s postwar role began to emerge. One of the key roles
that began to emerge was the idea of equality for all. Americans established that Americanism
rested on toleration of diversity and equality for all, while the enemy s philosophy was racism.
So, by the end of the war the new immigrant groups had been fully accepted as loyal ethnic
Americans, rather than distinct and inferior races. Another idea of America s postwar role, was
brought to light in 1944 when the president called for an Economic Bill of Rights. Franklin D.
Roosevelt proposed to expand the government s power in order to secure full employment, an
adequate income, medical care, and a decent home for all Americans. Already ill and preoccupied

Individualism Is Celebrated As An Achievement Of Our...
In our modern society, individualism is celebrated as an achievement of our culture, economy, and
success. It basks in the light of personal success overthrowing the success of the community, and
believes that to be personally successful is more important than the success and solidarity among
the people you identify with. In the 19th century of Latin America, this ideology was forced onto a
society that perceived itself as a collective culture. The success of the majority was more important
than the success of the individual to the non Europeans of Latin America. To be successful for the
community was success in itself, as you were helping the group. If the community suffered, then
you would suffer as well. There was not one person in the community who was at fault for the
majority failure, but the whole community was at fault. The European individualistic ideology took
the traditional collective perspective and destroyed it with class systems, culture conflict, economic
change, and lack of options for the people of Latin America to change the course of their land s
ideologies. The beginning of the indoctrination of individualismwas the divide between the eliteand
the folk in Latin American. The elite people of Latin America were those from the mother country
of the colony, or descendents of people from the mother country. They represented the wealth, skills,
power, and birthright of those in the highest class in Latin America (5). The folk of Latin America

Manley Pointer In Flannery O Connor s Good Country People
Manley Pointer, the antagonist of Flannery O Connor s Good Country People, is a character of
multiple dimensions. He is considered a good country people by many of the characters in the
beginning of the short story, including Hulga. However, by the end, it is revealed that he is not a
reputable person, and is rather the opposite of the persona he portrays himself. Manley believes
that he must act this way in order to make a living. There is a root cause to his flawed rational that
must be uncovered, although some would argue that he is only a simple character and has no root
cause to explain his behavior. However, Manley s past is extremely influential to his actions and the
person he claims to be. Manley s actions indicate two different personas that are conflicting. In the
beginning Manley presents as a simple character that is only interested in selling Bibles. He talks
with Mrs. Hopewell and creates a friendly environment around himself that influences how the other
characters view him. Through this alternate persona, he is able to trick the other characters into
thinking that he is a sweet, innocent young man. Believing in this act, Hulga and the other
characters are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Kierkegaard Subjectivity
The truth of subjectivity was a reference to Christianity for Kierkegaard. His argument was that the
only way that you can understand and know the truth about Christianity is from a personal
subjective standpoint and not by objective analysis. He admits that it is ineffective to find the truth
about Christianitythrough historical analysis because no matter how many times you try to look at
it objectively, the result will only be an educated guess and not the ultimate truth.
By reading more on Kierkegaard, you also learn his perspective on moral values in relationship to
God. He argued that, instead of morality being created by God, it is a divine command from God
which transcends ethics. This distinction means that God does not necessarily create human
morality, but it is up to us as individuals to create our own morals and values. Kierkegaard also
references the knight of faith within his discussions. This in an individual who has placed complete

This is due to the fact that as a society today, we would be categorized as the external individual,
according to Kierkegaard. This type of individual has a passive relation to the divine (rituals which
demand a particular attitude toward the universal). Kierkegaard is correct in a sense that people
now are trying to find their identities towards faith, but are ultimately moving away from it. He
argues that people who devote their time to faith in the external (ex. Only going to church on
Sunday s) are limited to the commitment of the absolute/universal. On the other hand, he points out
that there is the authentic individual. This is a person, like Abraham, who devotes their absolute
commitment to faith. As absurd as Abraham s story may be, this individual does not question these
morals, rather, accepts them for what they are (the knight of faith believes what they believe

Chicago School Of Sociology Essay
The scholars of the Chicago School of Sociology have presented a theory of assimilation that
generally states that people of different cultures and ethnicities that come into the United States
(also applies to other countries as well) will have contact with American culture which will generate
conflict. These people of a different culture or ethnicity will eventually acculturate and integrate
into a so called Melting Pot of culture in which they will give off their own unique flavor but will
eventually blend into mainstream society. I feel that this theory is quite eloquently constructed, but
is rather limiting and not necessarily representative of every ethnic group that assimilated in the
United Statesand should be broadened to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Chicago School of Sociology s theory of assimilation describes the way in which foreign
cultures interact with American culture. From my understanding, the described initial reaction is
unpleasant and conflictual. I generally agree with this statement. It is true that when new cultures
are introduced, people are a bit wary of their practices or appearances. To put it quite simply,
people are uncomfortable with other people that act or look differently than they do. But with time
people adjust and are able to become more comfortable over time as subtle changes are made in
both parties. Since the abolition of slavery in 1865 with the passing of the Thirteenth Amendment
African Americans have been striving to be accepted as part of American culture. A main period of
focus for African Americanassimilation and acculturation is from around 1955 to 1968 and is
better known as the Civil Rights Movement. African American culture had already been defined
very well by the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s and 1930s. The Civil Rights Movement led to
a better integration of African Americans into society. Most of the progress was made through
nonviolent protests and civil disobedience. There were setbacks to the progress that was often
frowned upon by African Americans that desired progress. I see negroes like him everyday,
breaking into a goddamn buck a wing every time a white man come by. I can t stand to see a Negro

The Terra Cotta Warriors display the power he held in his empire through the image of art.
Individual artists created groups of warriors that would soon be assigned a pit. However, all

...The body of each warrior was made separately, having the upper part of the body being hollow,

the workers placed them purposefully inside the tomb. They placed them, facing east, most

Organized into divisions and units much like soldiers in actual battle, the army stands in groups

Welfare And The Government s Contribution Towards Poverty
Government aid is a hotly debated topic. Crossing the bounds of politics, economics, and
sociology, it seems like everyone has an opinion about welfare and the government s contribution
towards alleviating poverty. Amongst all these opinions, a person can get confused on what is fact
and fiction, who is right and who is wrong. However, with actual data accredited to unbiased
sources, and references to qualified studies, I have confounded enough evidence to support my
claim. I found that despite opinions, according to the facts, welfaredoes help alleviate poverty.
According to the article Ending Welfare as We Know It: A Reform Still in Progress, in the long
term, as more aid is given the poverty rate declines. Less people are stuck in poverty, and on
average the number who use federal aid declines, resulting in a decline in poverty. The focus of
the source was to figure out whether or not the reforms in welfare did anything to help alleviate
poverty. This article references statistics taken by the U.S Census bureau. According to the U.S
Census bureau, through utilizing welfare policies such as Medicaid, the number of citizens reliant

help those in poverty, and in the long run helps them get themselves above the poverty threshold

Mirror Image Of Electra In Aeschylus The Libation Bearers
In this paper I will discuss Aeschylus The Libation Bearers. Close reading reveals that Electra is
Orestes mirror image of a Fury. This thesis will be demonstrated through the analysis of passages
through the lens of the following principles of close reading: anomaly and parallel stories. To
prove this theory, the interpreter needs to offer evidence to show that Electra is a mirror image of
Orestes, a physical copy of himself meant to display his emotional and Fury like motivations
towards killing his mother. Hence, the interpreter then also has to prove that Electra shares the
same characteristics as a Fury. In this case, her parallel story with Orestes and the anomaly of their
physical similarities proves the first condition. To demonstrate... Show more content on

Apollo focuses on the oath to the Father (p.259; 626 628) and the value of knowledge over
kinship (p.260 261; 665 675), while the Furies focus on the mother s rights (p.259; 630 631) and
the emotional values of kinship, Disclaim your mother s blood? She gave you life. (p.258; 614)
Athena weighs both of these arguments out and makes a compromise that takes in both sides
(p.264 265; 748 758). In comparison, Orestes compromises Electra and Pylades motivations in
The Libation Bearers by killing Clytemnestra with motivations of emotion, You flung me into a
life of pain (p.217; 900) as well as those of oaths and logic, my father s destiny...decrees your
death. (p.219; 913) Hence, what Apollo and the Furies are to Athena, is what Pylades and Electra
are to Orestes. As discussed in class, Pylades is the disguise of Apollo, and Athena represents
humanity. When combining these conclusions, Orestes also represents humanity, with Pylades as
his Apollo, and Electra as his mirror image of a

The Pros And Cons Of The NFL Protests
NFL Protests: Counterproductive Free Speech
Arguably, when it comes to personal freedoms, Americans have the most as compared to other
industrialized nations. In the United States, (US) its citizens are guaranteed unalienable rights as
put down in The Constitution via its amendments. More than one might realize, Americans often
take these freedoms for granted only asserting them when someone else brings them to mind. Such
is the case now playing out in professional football stadiums across the country, as illustrated by the
many players in the National Football League (NFL) who choose to kneel or sit during the National
Anthem prior to the start of the game. While most Americans agree the players do have a right to
protest, many believe the time and place of these protests are the issue. When the observance of
the National Anthem takes place, players are on the field and in uniform, representing their teams
and the league and therefore are at work. When other American workers are at work, there is an
expectation of specific conduct as defined by a set of rules. This is also true for the NFL. While
companies have various reasons for implementing these rules, they are, in fact designed to protect
the company and its assets. Therefore, workplace policies such as limiting free speech, are
necessary and beneficial not only to create and maintain an environment where employees can
focus on their jobs without unnecessary distraction, but also to protect the company, its

The Importance Of Work-Life Diversity In Life
The type of environment one works in can greatly influence the risk involved and the level of
satisfaction within that career. When working in an environment with others, I prefer one that
is task driven, open to diversity, and one that promotes work life balance. With this type of work
environment a career can grow to be enjoyable and innovative. I believe work life balance is
something all individuals should strive for in careers and knowing how to balance the scale
between life at work and life outside of work is a key factor to being successful in life. Not many
people know how to incorporate and structure work life balance into their everyday lives making
their jobs both stressful and often unsatisfying. Meanwhile, having job diversity can provide the
opportunity for being open to change and the advantage of knowing how to work with various
type of people. In the past, I have worked at jobs that have incorporated work diversity and it has
taught me how to be a better employee and co worker by examining others work ethics and
understanding how they view work life. According to Waldron and Kassing (2011) having diversity
in the workplace can lead to many benefits such as an even distribution of power, commitment
within the organization, and a career fulfillment (p. 139). I feel that work relationship are not
always as important as it is to understanding those around you. For instance, at my current job for

There are many differences between the two such as setting, characters, and the organization of
the storyline. In the book they start out at in Danish kingdom and switch the Gaet s kingdom
with the return of Beowulf. But in the movie the setting is always in the Danish kingdom. The
stories are similar because they both start out at Herot hall in the Danish kingdom. As far as
characters go Wiglaf, Beowulf, and Hrothgar all have the same character roles in both the
storylines. But in the movie there is not a character named Aschere like in the book. Instead
Unferth s role as a Gaet in the book is opposite for the movie. Grendel was killed the same way
when Beowulf tears his arm off. For example the mom wasn t killed in the movie and she

Wiglaf deals the final blow to the dragon with his sword but in the movie Beowulf rips its heart

Danes. Also he is buried or sent away with his treasure in both of the storylines. Unferth doubts
Beowulf s ability to fight the monster but ends up giving him his sword as a token of gratitude in

  • 2. My First Obsession Is Life I have 10 obsessions in life. I m not sure if they will ever go away. But life would be no fun without any obsessions. My first obsession is life. I love life and what you can do with it. I love the way people laugh at a joke or become afraid when watching a scary movie. It amazes me how children feel most safe in their parents arms. And how you learn so much from how other people before you had lived their life. I think this one of my obsessions because life can be taken away in a blink of an eye. You never know when your time is up. So enjoying every second in my eyes is how you ll have the best life possible. My second obsession is family. I have always loved how families looked in a magazine or on TV. I love that parents will do anything to make sure their children are loved and safe. And that families do things together and love each other no matter what. Parents that play outside with the kids and go to games and concerts. When a child gets hurt, there is a parent there to pick them up. I think this is one of my obsessions because my mom had me taken away when I was really young. I don t ever remember her ever picking me up when I fell down or tucking me in at night and kissing me on the forehead. For a while it was my grandma who did all this but then she got sick, and I had to live with a family friend, and this is where I still live now. I have always wanted to know what it felt like to have a happy family. A family that comes to your games because they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Day Shift Living in our own home was bliss and Redwood City was a wonderful place to live. Our home was located within walking distance of Broadway; a major street downtown with a movie theater, several restaurants and interesting stores. Ben Franklin; a five and dime variety store, sold low cost household items, sundries, seasonal products, health and beauty aids. JC Penny s; a larger department store, sold furniture and clothing and at Walgreens, the corner drugstore, there was a diner where shoppers sat at a counter and ordered a hamburger with fries and a milkshake, or two eggs with two strips of bacon, hash browns and two pancakes any time of day. At the Fox Theater Ellen and I met friends to see a matinee and occasionally, on our way home after... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many years later, when Ellen brought came to visit Mom with her children on Independence Day, we watched the parade, in the same way. My sister and I still cherish this memory fondly. The first summer living in our own home was a time of personal fulfillment. Mom did not approve of the American School System s three month holiday during the summer, deeming too much unsupervised idle time as an opportunity for Ellen and me to get into mischief while she and Oma worked, therefore, as in the previous two summers, Mom enrolled us in Summer School. By this time, we had been living in the United States for three years and through our association with the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church and Mom s employment at Raychem, acquired a strong network of mostly Dutch Indonesians friends. Among them, Eddie and Ina Jonathans became part of our extended family, and so did the Schardijns, Rudy and Luisa Fredricks, the Hendricks family and Iet and Eli Millenaar, who were distantly related to Netty. Just as in Holland, family and friends seemed to gravitate to our home in large and small groups and Mom and Oma, were always delighted to welcome a friendly visitor who appeared on our ... • 4. The Political Theory Of The Chilean Economy Despite the small size of the Chilean economy and its rather relative weight in the global economy, several accounts acknowledge that Chile was at the forefront of the worldwide neoliberal experiment since the mid 1970s under the civic military dictatorship that ruled the nation between 1973 and 1990 (Harvey, 2005a; Klein, 2007; McChesney, 1999; Paley, 2001; Stiglitz, 2002). Indeed, the Chilean authoritarian regime not only has radically applied neoclassical theory, but also turns it into the founding philosophy of a new society (ValdГ©s, 1989: 35). Actually, Chile has been a warm laboratory for the most classic economic trends since the 1950s, when the so called Klein Saks mission was hired by the Chilean government to analyze the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Specific political projects embodying different schools of thought have fueled three waves of neoliberalism, with both economic and ethical implications (Ong, 2006). In a first moment, Hayek and his Homo economicus as the basis of a free political order and Friedman and Becker have philosophically supported what Thatcher (Thatcherism) and Reagan (Reagonimics) implemented in the United Kingdom and in the United States in the late 1970s and the 1980s. The Clinton (US) and the Blair (UK) administrations in the 1990s represent promote the individual internalization of self governamentality or self responsibility. In this second wave of neoliberalism, the broad social, political, economic, and cultural principles underneath neoliberalism became common sense and were naturalized as an individual action. Finally, entrepreneurialism or the communitarian ideal of responsibility is a third wave of neoliberalism. Therefore, neoliberal policies of shrinking the state are accompanied by a proliferation of techniques to remake the subjects ; so, neoliberal logic requires free, self managing, and self enterprising individuals in different spheres of everyday life (Ong, 2006: 14). Nevertheless, neoliberalism seems to carry multiple meanings and imply different material conditions, institutional frames, and symbolic imaginaries (Ong, 2006), depending not only on historical moments, political ... • 5. Skin Representation Lab Report The research group carried out a genome wide association to scan for sequence variants that influence hair color, eye color and skin color in the europeans. Pigmentation in humans is attributed to the number type and cellular distribution of melanosomes. When different number of melanosomes are produced, they cause the differences in the skin pigmentation. The experiment was done with a sample of people from Iceland and Holland. The results of this experiment showed how the samples were broadly similar despite the fact that icelanders have more red hair, freckles and green eyes. They carried out two scans for each eye color, hair color and skin pigmentation traits. There were two overlapping regions on the MC1R on chromosome16 and one of them is near a strong candidate for a strong... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ultimately summarized the primary and secondary pigmentation traits are associated in the six regions on the genome. The research allowed us to identify several new variants that account for differences in the pigmentation. Each of these variants are viewed to have a moderate effect on pigmentation in Europeans. It has been thought that before migrators bought the light skin species out of africa 60,000 years back, our ancestors were all dark skinned. It is consistent with the correlation of human skin pigmentation and proximity to the equator. The results of this research support the conclusion that most of the pigmentation variants discovered in this study show positive selection in European populations. The advantage of having a lighter skin pigmentation is that it facilitates the formation of Vitamin D3 though lighter skin people live in colder areas where there is low exposure to sunlight/ UV rays. On January 16, 1919 the 18th Amendment was passed, but did not come into effect until the following year. This prohibited the manufacturing, distributing, and selling of all alcoholic liquor but didn t prohibit the consumption of intoxicating beverages. When they first passed this document they believed what they were doing was important. To start off, how did history lead up to the banning of alcohol in all fifty states. Then what issues and questions that they had back then, the debate today, and how it let up to a revolution. Finally, what s my opinion and how I interpret the amendment and what is happening today that can relate to this. To begin, how did this amendment become so popular? For a saloon keeper it was hard to earn profit so they sometimes introduced vices such as gambling and prostitution into their establishments in an attempt to earn more. Many Americans considered saloons offensive and for the lower classes. This helped spark a wave of strong religious revivalism that swept through the United States in the 1820 s and 1830 s. Hundreds protested against alcohol which was driven by mostly religious groups who call alcohol and drunkenness a national cruse . • 32. Individualism Is Celebrated As An Achievement Of Our... In our modern society, individualism is celebrated as an achievement of our culture, economy, and success. It basks in the light of personal success overthrowing the success of the community, and believes that to be personally successful is more important than the success and solidarity among the people you identify with. In the 19th century of Latin America, this ideology was forced onto a society that perceived itself as a collective culture. The success of the majority was more important than the success of the individual to the non Europeans of Latin America. To be successful for the community was success in itself, as you were helping the group. If the community suffered, then you would suffer as well. There was not one person in the community who was at fault for the majority failure, but the whole community was at fault. The European individualistic ideology took the traditional collective perspective and destroyed it with class systems, culture conflict, economic change, and lack of options for the people of Latin America to change the course of their land s ideologies. The beginning of the indoctrination of individualismwas the divide between the eliteand the folk in Latin American. The elite people of Latin America were those from the mother country of the colony, or descendents of people from the mother country. They represented the wealth, skills, power, and birthright of those in the highest class in Latin America (5). The folk of Latin America were the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Manley Pointer In Flannery O Connor s Good Country People Manley Pointer, the antagonist of Flannery O Connor s Good Country People, is a character of multiple dimensions. He is considered a good country people by many of the characters in the beginning of the short story, including Hulga. However, by the end, it is revealed that he is not a reputable person, and is rather the opposite of the persona he portrays himself. Manley believes that he must act this way in order to make a living. There is a root cause to his flawed rational that must be uncovered, although some would argue that he is only a simple character and has no root cause to explain his behavior. However, Manley s past is extremely influential to his actions and the person he claims to be. Manley s actions indicate two different personas that are conflicting. In the beginning Manley presents as a simple character that is only interested in selling Bibles. He talks with Mrs. Hopewell and creates a friendly environment around himself that influences how the other characters view him. Through this alternate persona, he is able to trick the other characters into thinking that he is a sweet, innocent young man. Believing in this act, Hulga and the other characters are... • 34. Kierkegaard Subjectivity The truth of subjectivity was a reference to Christianity for Kierkegaard. His argument was that the only way that you can understand and know the truth about Christianity is from a personal subjective standpoint and not by objective analysis. He admits that it is ineffective to find the truth about Christianitythrough historical analysis because no matter how many times you try to look at it objectively, the result will only be an educated guess and not the ultimate truth. By reading more on Kierkegaard, you also learn his perspective on moral values in relationship to God. He argued that, instead of morality being created by God, it is a divine command from God which transcends ethics. This distinction means that God does not necessarily create human morality, but it is up to us as individuals to create our own morals and values. This is due to the fact that as a society today, we would be categorized as the external individual, according to Kierkegaard. This type of individual has a passive relation to the divine (rituals which demand a particular attitude toward the universal). Kierkegaard is correct in a sense that people now are trying to find their identities towards faith, but are ultimately moving away from it. He argues that people who devote their time to faith in the external (ex. Only going to church on Sunday s) are limited to the commitment of the absolute/universal. On the other hand, he points out that there is the authentic individual. This is a person, like Abraham, who devotes their absolute commitment to faith. As absurd as Abraham s story may be, this individual does not question these morals, rather, accepts them for what they are (the knight of faith believes what they believe ... • 35. Chicago School Of Sociology Essay The scholars of the Chicago School of Sociology have presented a theory of assimilation that generally states that people of different cultures and ethnicities that come into the United States (also applies to other countries as well) will have contact with American culture which will generate conflict. These people of a different culture or ethnicity will eventually acculturate and integrate into a so called Melting Pot of culture in which they will give off their own unique flavor but will eventually blend into mainstream society. I feel that this theory is quite eloquently constructed, but is rather limiting and not necessarily representative of every ethnic group that assimilated in the United Statesand should be broadened to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Chicago School of Sociology s theory of assimilation describes the way in which foreign cultures interact with American culture. From my understanding, the described initial reaction is unpleasant and conflictual. I generally agree with this statement. It is true that when new cultures are introduced, people are a bit wary of their practices or appearances. To put it quite simply, people are uncomfortable with other people that act or look differently than they do. But with time people adjust and are able to become more comfortable over time as subtle changes are made in both parties. Since the abolition of slavery in 1865 with the passing of the Thirteenth Amendment African Americans have been striving to be accepted as part of American culture. A main period of focus for African Americanassimilation and acculturation is from around 1955 to 1968 and is better known as the Civil Rights Movement. African American culture had already been defined very well by the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s and 1930s. The Civil Rights Movement led to a better integration of African Americans into society. Most of the progress was made through nonviolent protests and civil disobedience. There were setbacks to the progress that was often frowned upon by African Americans that desired progress. Amongst all these opinions, a person can get confused on what is fact and fiction, who is right and who is wrong. I found that despite opinions, according to the facts, welfaredoes help alleviate poverty. • 39. Mirror Image Of Electra In Aeschylus The Libation Bearers In this paper I will discuss Aeschylus The Libation Bearers. Close reading reveals that Electra is Orestes mirror image of a Fury. This thesis will be demonstrated through the analysis of passages through the lens of the following principles of close reading: anomaly and parallel stories. To prove this theory, the interpreter needs to offer evidence to show that Electra is a mirror image of Orestes, a physical copy of himself meant to display his emotional and Fury like motivations towards killing his mother. Hence, the interpreter then also has to prove that Electra shares the same characteristics as a Fury. In this case, her parallel story with Orestes and the anomaly of their physical similarities proves the first condition. To demonstrate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Apollo focuses on the oath to the Father (p.259; 626 628) and the value of knowledge over kinship (p.260 261; 665 675), while the Furies focus on the mother s rights (p.259; 630 631) and the emotional values of kinship, Disclaim your mother s blood? She gave you life. (p.258; 614) Athena weighs both of these arguments out and makes a compromise that takes in both sides (p.264 265; 748 758). In comparison, Orestes compromises Electra and Pylades motivations in The Libation Bearers by killing Clytemnestra with motivations of emotion, You flung me into a life of pain (p.217; 900) as well as those of oaths and logic, my father s destiny...decrees your death. • 40. The Pros And Cons Of The NFL Protests NFL Protests: Counterproductive Free Speech Arguably, when it comes to personal freedoms, Americans have the most as compared to other industrialized nations. In the United States, (US) its citizens are guaranteed unalienable rights as put down in The Constitution via its amendments. More than one might realize, Americans often take these freedoms for granted only asserting them when someone else brings them to mind. Such is the case now playing out in professional football stadiums across the country, as illustrated by the many players in the National Football League (NFL) who choose to kneel or sit during the National Anthem prior to the start of the game. While most Americans agree the players do have a right to protest, many believe the time and place of these protests are the issue. When the observance of the National Anthem takes place, players are on the field and in uniform, representing their teams and the league and therefore are at work. When other American workers are at work, there is an expectation of specific conduct as defined by a set of rules. This is also true for the NFL. While companies have various reasons for implementing these rules, they are, in fact designed to protect the company and its assets. Therefore, workplace policies such as limiting free speech, are necessary and beneficial not only to create and maintain an environment where employees can focus on their jobs without unnecessary distraction, but also to protect the company, its ... • 41. The Importance Of Work-Life Diversity In Life The type of environment one works in can greatly influence the risk involved and the level of satisfaction within that career. When working in an environment with others, I prefer one that is task driven, open to diversity, and one that promotes work life balance. With this type of work environment a career can grow to be enjoyable and innovative. I believe work life balance is something all individuals should strive for in careers and knowing how to balance the scale between life at work and life outside of work is a key factor to being successful in life. Not many people know how to incorporate and structure work life balance into their everyday lives making their jobs both stressful and often unsatisfying. Meanwhile, having job diversity can provide the opportunity for being open to change and the advantage of knowing how to work with various type of people. In the past, I have worked at jobs that have incorporated work diversity and it has taught me how to be a better employee and co worker by examining others work ethics and understanding how they view work life. According to Waldron and Kassing (2011) having diversity in the workplace can lead to many benefits such as an even distribution of power, commitment within the organization, and a career fulfillment (p. 139). I feel that work relationship are not always as important as it is to understanding those around you.
