Poem Explication Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "Poem Explication" can be quite challenging. It requires a deep
understanding of poetry, literary analysis skills, and the ability to effectively articulate your
interpretations and insights. First, you need to select a poem that is rich in meaning and
symbolism, which often involves reading and analyzing multiple poems before settling on one.
Then, you must carefully read and reread the chosen poem, paying close attention to its
language, structure, themes, and imagery.
Next comes the daunting task of interpreting the poem and uncovering its layers of meaning.
This involves analyzing various elements such as the poet's choice of words, the use of literary
devices like metaphor and symbolism, the poem's structure and form, and its historical and
cultural context. It requires critical thinking and the ability to draw connections between different
parts of the poem to develop a coherent interpretation.
Once you have a solid understanding of the poem, you need to organize your thoughts and
arguments into a well-structured essay. This includes crafting a thesis statement that encapsulates
your interpretation of the poem and provides a roadmap for your analysis. Each paragraph
should focus on a specific aspect of the poem, providing evidence and examples to support your
interpretation while also engaging with different scholarly perspectives on the poem.
Writing a poem explication essay also requires attention to detail and careful editing to ensure
clarity and coherence. You need to carefully consider your word choice, sentence structure, and
the flow of your arguments to effectively convey your ideas to the reader.
In conclusion, writing a poem explication essay is a challenging task that requires a combination
of literary analysis skills, critical thinking, and effective writing abilities. It demands careful
reading, interpretation, and analysis of the poem, as well as the ability to communicate your
insights clearly and convincingly.

List Of Major Countries With The World Bank
1.Identify three major countries with which your chosen company operates.
Preferably, the three countries are in different continents. Three major locations
where they operate are the United States, the United Kingdom, and Afghanistan.
2.Are these three countries members of the IMF, the World Bank, and WTO?
Afghanistan is a member of the IMF and the World Bank; however, it is not yet a
member of the WTO, although its admission has been rumored to be near at hand for
the past five years or so, along with other countries in the region, such as Kazakhstan
(World Bank, 2015; Miles, 2014). Although Afghanistan is a member of the IMF and

As they both have robust international economic trade that continues to trend
upwards, it s fair to say that their institutional structures do encourage globalization on
a large scale. Afghanistan is not a country that has a transparent institutional structure.
The political institution, although it has improved over the past year, continues to be
a religiously dominated hierarchy that does not lend itself well to international
cooperation and global trade (Barfield, 2010). Their judiciary system, although it has
made a large deal of progress over the past 15 years, still remains antiquated and
ineffective when compared to other modern judicial systems. It suffers from a large
backlog of cases, and also a generalized disagreement with Western judicial
prosecution that has been imposed, although it goes against the government s own
religious views on judicial punishment. 5.Do you believe that the three countries
under consideration practice policies that promote globalization? For example, what
are those countries policies toward (a) governance, (b) competitive markets, (c)
property rights, and (d) corruption? Countries of operation promotion of
globalization. I think that the United States and the United Kingdom both have

Comparing Gilgamesh And Noah And The Flood
The book of Gilgamesh and Noah And The Flood are both epic stories with a
different outlook on the flood. The two stories are clashing tales with flood and
deals and death. They both have different religions and story lines which leads to the
great Floods. Utnapishtim haves many Gods, and Noah haves one God. Utnapishtim
gained everlasting life because of the flood. Noah got reward with grace and peace
for flood.
The cause of the floods were quite similar but didn t really connect. In the book of
Gilgamesh the gods were upset because the humans were too noisy and couldn t
sleep. The Gods didn t care if they were wicked or not they just wanted peace. Enlil
the head god took it into his own hands and sent a dream out. He sent it to
Utnapishtim cause he was the only one not acting crazy. Well in the book of Noah
his God was upset with all the wickedness that were going on in the land. When he
made them he wanted them to be pure but they were killing each other and getting
drunk etc. Both stories happen because their God or Gods were upset at them. They
were different reasons Gilgamesh Gods were mad because they didn t get sleep and
Noah s God was mad cause their was so much destruction in the land.
In the stories they choose certain people to lead this flood on and gave task to what
they needed to do. In the book of Gilgamesh the head of Gods Enlil choose
Utnapishtim prepare for the flood. Enlil told Utnapishtim to build a boat, gather
animals, food, and bring his family
Training Day Vs Serpico Research Paper
Running head: Compare and Contrast Compare and Contrast April Smolkowicz
Georgia Gwinnett College Upon watching the movie Serpico that was located in
New York in 1973, and the movie Training Day that was located in Los Angeles in
2001, these were two different movies filmed years apart also geographically
thousands of miles apart. I believe that both movies sharing similarities and
differences can be discussed in three ways being: police corruption and
misconduct, morals and the third category is education value. I will first start with
the time period of the 1970 s movie Serpico; a New York police officer transfers to
another precinct to work as an undercover police officer. Serpico witnesses his
colleges accepting bribes, collecting for their division, committing violence, and
refusing to take emergency calls, drawing their guns then shooting at individuals
before knowing the situation. While Serpico refuses to accept bribes or anything that
was not legal, his colleges in turn didn t trust him. Serpico being a man of... Show

After being shot in the face from a drug bust gone wrong, Serpico resigned from
the police force unlike Detective Alonzo who was killed by the Russian mafia.
Clearly you could tell that both of these detectives had morals and knew what they
needed to do in order to try and correct circumstances that had gone terribly wrong.
Serpico was honest and showed integrity. It took guts for him to stand his ground
even if that meant putting his life in danger to do what was ethically right. A gold
shield was handed to him after he was shot, no ceremony was held. The thing that
both detectives have in common is that they didn t sign up for the corruption they
were exposed to and made lasting impressions that they didn t have to be involved in
order to be a good police
Holden Caulfield Innocence
Innocence may be preserved in a child indefinitely. However, influences from both
family and society impose standards of maturity on children which gradually strip the
youthfulness away from a child. Additionally, children may isolate themselves or face
ostracization, which leads to the degradation of a childs purity as he begins creating
his own unique worldview apart of his community. Parents are the closest influence
on a developing child. Therefore, their mature actions are bound to accumulate over
the child, instigating his growth from childhoodinnocence. This is especially true
when parents perform their intense habits in front of their kids. This is outlined by
Theodore Roethke who recalls his father through a poem. He states how... Show more

This leads to a loss of innocence as the child begins maturing individually and
creating their own unique worldview. J.D. Salinger Highlights this in Catcher in
the Rye through Holden Caulfield, and then reveals the huge remorse which this
character faces for isolating himself. Near the end of the novel Salinger reveals
that Holden sort of [misses] everybody [he] told about... (Salinger) his life and with
whom he interacted. This demonstrates that Holden did have some meaningful
connections in his life at one time, but eventually lost them because of his
isolation, which caused a large amount of regret and loss of his innocence. This is
most evident as Holden states that he even missed that... Maurice... who was a
pimp that solicited Holden earlier in the book. That scene, in which Holden hired a
prostitute, was the penultimate indicator that Holden was isolating himself. Even
though he is a teenager, Holden traveled to a city alone to perform mature tasks in
order to prove that maturity to himself. These grown up activities ultimately lead to
Holden s dissatisfaction with adulthood. By the end of this novel, Holden is stuck
reminiscing about his past and yearning to go back his childhood. Because of his
isolation and desire to be mature, Holden essentially lost all of his innocence and
fully transformed from a child to an adult. Similarly many children lose their
innocence as a result of their own changing views of the world. Seamus Heaney
outlines this in Blackberry Picking where he states that, each year [he] hoped [his
blackberries would] keep but knew they would not. (Heaney) This is an important
reminder that time is the ultimate thief of childhood. Despite a lack of outside
influences, Heaney compares his childhood to blackberries to convey that eventually,
both would rot. In time, he knew that nothing completely pure in his
Imagery In Mid Term Break
In this essay, I will be focusing on the two elegies, Mid term Break and Funeral
Blues, and how they make use of numerous literary and poetic techniques to convey
the grief reflected from the individuals in the poem. Mid term Break is written
about Seamus Heaney s younger brother, Christopher, who died in a car accident
while Heaney was away at boarding school. He also writes his poems
autobiographically, many involving his family relationships. The title signifies the
irony of its association with celebration its contradiction to a traumatising death.
Funeral Blues was written in 1936 to be used in a play by W.H. Auden, who was
homosexual. This piece of information is important as the speaker refers to the death
someone who he loved romantically... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of his stanzas are in tercet form, which represents how everything had rhythm
and order until the last stanza, which only has one line. The use of having only one
line in the last stanza was to make it stand out, emphasizing the short life that his
brother had. The last line shows how greatly the short life of the young boy
impacts Heaney; he feels that he could have done something to prevent the
accident as he is partly responsible for being an older brother, causing him to feel
frustration and grief which he shows in the single line stanza. Bumper knocked
him clear...a foot for every year contains the only full rhyme in the whole poem,
which associates to the closure received by the poet. The closure represents the end
of the exposure of Heaney s frustration and grief, but in reality (as in after the poem
is expressed) he still goes on to mourn of his brother s
Pan s Labyrinth Film Analysis Essay
Vanessa Salfen 6/29/2012 Visual Analysis Pan s Labyrinth: A Visual Analysis Pan
s Labyrinth, originally titled El laberinto del fauno, was published in 2006 by the
Spanish director Guillermo del Toro. The story is set in the year 1944, in the
country side of a post Civil War Spain. A young and imaginative girl named Ofelia,
played by Ivana Baquero, travels with her pregnant mother, Carmen Vidal, who is
very ill; in order to meet and live with her stepfather, a cruel and sadistic man
named Capitan Vidal (Sergi Lopez). During the first night of their stay, Ofelia meets

He uses these most prominently to depict the film s villain as an authoritarian,
power hungry, and cruel man. This harsh commander has total power over the
rural town that he inhabits and the steely blue lighting is able to demonstrate that
immaculately. It illustrates a gloomy atmosphere that he himself has created, as
whenever there are scenes set in his village, the cold blue tones are cast over the
screen. The blue lighting is there to highlight that the events in reality are cold
natured and unjust. He speaks only in a short and sharp manner, consistently
ordering other s about. The techniques by del Toro are used to manipulate the
viewer s attitude towards Vidal thus giving a strict, controlling, and heartless
impression of him. Lighting is used as a major technique in this film as it is often
used to set the mood. Due to Vidal s world always being shown enveloped in blue
grey hue, it immediately shows the viewers that is isn t a welcoming place to be.
This shade of lighting helps create a detached feeling which is in great contrast to
the golden, homely, and warm lighting of Ofelia s fantasy world portraying a safe
and enchanting atmosphere. This is most apparent at the end of the film when Ofelia
is lying in the labyrinth close to death. When Vidal has just shot her, dark blue
shadows loom into the air, they begin to
Ackland Art Museum Essay
The Ackland Art Museum s new exhibition takes visitors through an experience

exhibition is focused on the visual effects and the war technologies that appear in the
prints, Reisporter said. These visual effects include: moonlight, searchlight, smoke,
fog and pyrotechnics. Several war technologies are depicted in these prints. Electric
searchlights, steel warships and long range ammunition, are a few of the war
inventions shown in the prints. These inventions were new during the Russo

between Japanese and Russian forces in the Russo Japanese War. We start with
this one, said Reisporter, because it brings a lot of these ideas and these visual
aesthetics together. Two other techniques were used in creating the print: gofun and
bokashi. Bokashi is the gradient effect created by the ink during printing, and gofun
is a pigment made of calcified oyster shells used to create snow or fog, Reisporter

Leadership Styles Of Mohandas Gandhi
For ages world leaders have practiced different styles of leadership and they have
been successful in accomplishing many things from regional peace to world wars.
Whether be political, tyrannical, or religious, world leaders from generations past to
current all share similarities and differences in their leadershipstyles. World leaders
have built respect and trust from developed personalities or communication styles
to motivate and inspire others into action. All leaders can learn from past success
and mistakes of any world leader. In this paper we are going to look at the practices
and leadership styles of Mohandas Gandhi and a brief comparison and contrast of
leadership styles to Fidel Castro.
Mohandas Gandhi
Mohandas Gandhi was born in 1869 in the Bombay region of Porbandar, Gujarat
(DuToit, 1996). He is known as one of the greatest leaders from India and is said to
be the father of the Indian Independence Movement. Gandhi did not become a
spiritual and political leader overnight and was influenced by a number of events
throughout his life. From an unlavished childhood, Gandhi was able to attend law
school in London. This was once step in the direction of his quest for morality and
humility in society. After graduating law school, Gandhi practiced law in South
Africa where he quickly realized the discrimination against Indians in South Africa.

before entering because we were not allowed to walk while the services were in
progress. I really have a hard time understanding why some young people today
cannot sit through an entire service right now today. As children the church
conferences often baffled us. While watching and listening, sometimes things got into
a disagreeable mode. As children, we thought those deacons were at odds with each

Our communion was held on the second Sunday. Rev. Reid changed the

mother made robes for the choir and even embroidered names in them to prevent
any mix ups. She also ordered sheet music for us from the Theodore Presser
Company in Chicago, Illinois. At the time there were no available places in the
area to purchase sheet music. These things were done by the Grace of God and at
no expense to the church. We had rehearsal every Monday night. The memories are
pleasant even though for many years during the winter months there was no
automatic heat. I would go to the church ahead of time to make a fire. Most of the
time my father would help me, and sometime I was on my own. I would make sure
the fire would burn before going back home then return later for rehearsal if it was
not warm when the choir members came in they would gather around the potbellied
stove and I was up front on the piano with my coat on. By the time the church really
got good and warm, it was time to
The Success Of The American Revolution
The thirteen American colonies wanted to be free from rule by Great Britain.
Freedom would make it possible to create a new kind of government without a king.
In the democracy envisioned by the country s earliest leaders, Americans would
govern themselves based on certain principles or ideals. Few people at the time
thought that the American Revolutionwould succeed and the Americans could win a
war against the world s greatest empire. At the beginning of the war, there was no
regular American army, just a militia made up of civilians and most of them were
farmers. Naturally, they were not used to long campaigns or battles with British
Regulars, and thousands quit. General Washington begged the Continental
Congress to provide a regular army of men enlisted for a long term, but Congress
felt that step would violate civil liberties. It was only after so many American
defeats threatened the war effort that Congress agreed to offer extra pay to
officers and privates and pledged to see the war to an end. By 1775, tension
between the colonies and the mother country had reached the breaking point.
British troops in Boston learned that the colonists had hidden a large collection of
weapons in nearby Concord. Sons of Liberty Paul Revere and William Dawes rode
to warn of the impending British attack by way of the Charles River; the most direct
route. Just as the sun was rising on April 19, 1775, British soldiers reached
Lexington. Eight Minutemen were killed and several others
Explain What Role Dose Risk Plays In Dentistry
what role dose risk play in dentistry ?
The risk is often defined as the product of the likelihood of a harmful or undesirable
event or action occurring (or a hazard as described in some contexts) and the
consequence of the event, for example, the severity of harm caused (Europe
Economics.2014).
With this in intention,The risk in the dental field is mostly negative and relies on
hazards (something with the potential to cause harm) not only to the dental
practitioners but also to the patients. There are a dozen risks that might have an

and it can found naturally in some foods and beverages, like fish and tea, and also
normally exist in most of the water supply, but the concentration is different. Fluoride
helps in increasing tooth strength and makes it more decay resistant. Also, it helps
the tooth repair in the early decay stage through remineralization. Fluoride could be
applied typically, like toothpaste, fluoride varnish, and mouth rinse, or it may be used
systemically through a different approach, like fluoridated salt and fluoride tablets.
Water fluoridation provides both types of exposure.
The value of water fluoridation is recognized internationally. Countries and
geographic regions with extensive water fluoridation include the U.S., Australia,
Brazil, Canada, Chile, Columbia, Ireland, Israel, Malaysia, New Zealand, People s

2008, fluoridated water in the United States reached an estimated 64 percent of the
total population and approximately 72 percent of the population who had access to

Michael Lackey Beyond Good And Evil
In Michael Lackey s essay, Beyond Good and Evil: Huckleberry Finn on Human
Intimacy, Lackey argues that Mark Twain s novel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
seeks to destroy and abolish morality and considers morality socially, psychology, and
politically destructive. While I agree with Lackeys points that accepting morality
means rejecting friendship and accepting friendship means rejecting morality, in the
case of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I don t believe such an argument adequately
addresses the base of morality and human culture. In the course of this essay I will
argue that morality isn t a perfect pinnacle to base all thoughts and ideas off, but it is
not a bad tool either.
Lackey and Twain argue that morality is evil and as... Show more content on

I believe that Aunt Sally or another character, if they knew, would have stepped in
and stopped Tom s antics. I don t think the way Tom acted reflects the morals per
say, of a majority of people in this era, rather a game of a child. With that being said I
do think that the view of morality that most people during this time had, allowed
them to have and control slaves without feeling guilty.
One of Lackeys major points in his essay is that Huck ultimately has to make the
choice between friendship and morality. If Huck wants to be moral that means he
can t free Jim, and if Huck want s to have a friendship with Jim then he will suffer a
loss of morality. We witness Huck with this tough decision throughout the novel.
When Jim is talking about his family and how he s going to work his way to free
them, and if that doesn t work, steal them. We see Huck s inner turmoil.

Refluxing Lab Report
Reflux Introduction The purpose of this lab was to perform our first organic synthesis
of an acetylation reaction through the technique of refluxing. Reflux is a technique
that involves heating a mixture to the boiling point temperature of a solvent, causing
the solvent to condense back into the reaction round bottom flask by using a
condenser. Refluxing is a very efficient way of maintaining a solution at a constant
temperature. In order to avoid losing any of the solvent, a water jacketed column was
used. + HEAT The product N acetyl anthranilic acid was synthesized through the
reaction of anthranilic acid with acetic anhydride, which was hydrolyzed leading to
the formation of the white crystalline product. The reaction of anthranilic acid with

Often times reactions may not finish to completion or reactants may be too impure
so percent yields are necessary to calculate the amount of product produced. A
percent yield can be calculated by the amount of product that was actually
produced divided by the expected amount of product also known as the theoretical
yield. Our percent yield for N acetyl anthranilic acid was 84.61%. This is a good
percent yield. This signifies that our reaction occurred and our reactants were
converted to our desired product. Even though this is a good percent yield of N
acetyl anthranilic acid we could have improved our percent yield by refluxing our
solution for longer as well as making sure our reflux was hot enough. There were
instances where our watch glass came off during the reflux so this could have made
us lose some product through evaporation. Another way to improve our percent yield
would have been by making sure that we added the methanol slowly so as to not lose
a lot of product when washing and drying the product on the Buchner
Linear Programming
The development of linear programming has been ranked among the most important
scientific advances of the mid 20th century. Its impact since the 1950 s has been
extraordinary. Today it is a standard tool used by some companies (around 56%) of
even moderate size. Linear programming uses a mathematical model to describe the
problem of concern. Linear programminginvolves the planning of activities to obtain
an optimal result, i.e., a result that reaches the specified goal best (according to the
mathematical model) among all feasible alternatives.

therefore assumes that a company not using LP would have made less money than
one that did use LP. The sample is 28 companies and I felt this would be sufficient
as a sample size as statisticians typically recommend a minimum of 20 data points

and near the state of Delaware and also include New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
This research is not exhaustive and therefore will not be final in terms of how it is

much longer periods of time to refine the results and potentially prove that LP does
have a consistent improvement effect on a company s profits, ROI and EPS measures

Horton University serves a diverse population, many of whom rely on outside
financial resources to fund their education. In an effort to provide need based
scholarships to deserving students, the institution will implement a last dollar
scholarship program to students who have demonstrated academic excellence. Those
students who receive enough financial aid to cover all tuition costs will not be
eligible for the scholarship. As a result, the scholarship will afford the opportunity for
more students to attend the institution tuition free rather than further stacking

Ehab Elatrash12 A3/20/2017 Contributions of Prominent Muslim Women
People when asked about Muslim women automatically picture an oppressed,

Career In Counseling Psychology
There are a lot of career paths when it comes to psychology. The key to picking
which career you d want to pursue is to find something that you would passionate
about. In my life, I have always wanted to help people. A counseling psychologist
helps people day to day to get through tough times.
Most counseling psychologists have to be licensed to practice. All states require a
graduate degree in psychology, whether it s a master s or doctoral degree in
psychology. Counseling psychologists often work at hospitals and schools. Although
they may have to work or be on call during the evenings, they typically keep regular
office hours. Counseling psychologists with a private practice have their own offices
and can set their own hours. However,

Adelberg and began his university schooling at the Protestant University of Tubingen
studying Theology. While continuing his graduate studies in 1591, he became highly
influenced by a mathematics professor by the name of Michael Maestlin, a strong
believer of heliocentric theory first established by Nicolaus Copernicus, a polish

that Copernicans universal ordering had to be God s creation. Three years later,
Kepler was employed at the Protestant seminary in Graz, Styria as a professor,
teaching mathematics. Kepler taught arithmetic, geometry and rhetoric for six years.

Pros And Cons Of Increasing Military Spending
Following the controversial win of this year s presidential election, President
Donald Trump s initiates his first budget proposal to be increasing military
spending. More explicitly, he not only seeks to see a sharp $56 billion dollar
increase in military spending, but also to cut funding from nonmilitary programs such
as education, poverty and the environment to name a few. This increase might not
seem like much considering that some can arguable say that an increase of military
spending can create more job opportunity and that protecting our nation at all cost
should be National Security first priority. However, if the bigger picture is being
looked at, funding from many government assistant programs like Medicaid,

These people are supposed to work harder and more efficient because they believe
the government has their back. Even though there seems to be many reasons to
believe that higher military spending will bring a better life to people in a short
term, the long run of high defense spending may impede growth and development.
More precisely, high military spending tends to neglect the economy s ability meet
people s basic needs, such as food, housing, and medical services. This can be seen
first hand with trumps budget proposal. His plan, in return for the increase on
military spending, is for the same amount of money to be cut from other various
government and federal programming. Trump s budget would cut off funding
entirely for several agencies, including arts, public broadcasting and development
groups, and proposes steep cuts to agencies like the State Department and
Environmental Protection Agency , says CNN. Virtually every agency will see
some sort of cut, with only Defense, Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs getting

The Role of the Narrator in Edgar Allan Poe s The Black Cat
The narrator in The Black Cat
Edgar Allan Poe is well known for his captivating tales of the macabre through
eloquence and wit. In many of his short stories, Poe was able to exploit his audience
s fears through allegory and descriptive details of murder and madness. One of Poe s
captivating, yet mad, narrators helms The Black Cat, a tale of paranoia, alcoholism,
and murder. There are several things that make the narrator an intriguing character
including his psychological state, the imp of the perverse, and the effect that
alcoholism has on him. Like in many of his tales, the narrator murders both his
beloved Pluto and his wife, on two separate occasions, yet denies that he has been
stricken by madness and is instead intent on setting the record straight. While the
narrator blames his actions on his alcoholism, it can be argued that his actions
were not only influenced by alcohol, but also by his psyche. For example, he
believes that his beloved Pluto s doppelgänger is out to get him. Not only is the
doppelgänger a constant reminder of how badly the narrator treated his cat, but it
also serves as a constant reminder of how he killed it; the doppelgänger is
missing an eye, just like Pluto, and also has a mark that resembles a noose, which is
how the narrator killed his cat. It is the doppelgänger s physical appearance that
drives the narrator to believe that it is his duty to destroy it before it destroys him.
While the narrator never intended on lashing out

first years of the United States. Lodged tightly in stone, it took workers seven hours
to remove the box, and before a special ceremony held for the opening, another four

Wearing protective gloves, members of the historical society found newspapers,
coins, and even a rectangular silver plate engraved by Revere himself inside the

The Birthmark : Essay #4
December 30th, 2015
The Effect of Nature on the Scientific Ego of Aylmer
Throughout, The Birthmark , by Nathaniel Hawthorne, symbolism and imagery are
used to show that Aylmer s attempt to perfect something natural is the cause of
Georgiana s death and that when man manipulates something as powerful as Nature,
terrible things can occur. Aylmer is a scientist whose strives for perfection and is
blinded by his love for science, resulting in the death of his wife due to his attempt to
overpower Nature and dispose of the birthmark on her cheek. This signifies the
ultimate reality that man cannot achieve perfection by defeating Nature. Nathaniel
Hawthorne s The Birthmark demonstrates how the writer uses the development of
characters in the story to create a better understanding of the story s themes. In this
short story, Hawthorne uses symbolism and imagery to emphasize the strange shape
of the earthly imperfection (Hawthorne, 148), which is Georgiana s birthmark, and
his obsession in changing it. The shape of the birthmark bore a little similarity to the
human hand (148). Hawthorne s use of symbolism distinguishes connection between
the hand like shape of the birthmark and the need to remove it by the same means; by
using the human hand. In the beginning of the story, Georgiana was described as
being angelic due to her beauty, but not perfect. It was implied that the birthmark
Discipline And Punish By Michel Foucault
In the article, Discipline and Punish by Michel Foucault, he describes a social theory
called panopticism. In Foucault s panopticism he talks about the panopticon, an
architectural plan that was created by Jeremy Bentham. The Prison structure of the
twenty first century uses that same building design as the panopticon. We see how the
plague town in the Panopticism shows a chain of authority. Prisons in the twenty first
century use the same style of chain of authority in their correctional institutes. The
panopticon brings out a lot of mental effect to the prisoners when they are sent into
the cell. Prisoners in today s society society go through the same mental effects of
inmates in the Panopticon. The ideas of panopticism are relevant to the development
of the twenty first century through building structure, a chain of authority command,
guard surveillance, and mental effects that prisoners go through.
Foucault uses Bentham s panopticon, a design for a model prison, as a symbol for
disciple methods that operates through a variety of ideas. The Panopticon was
architectural design that has cells in a circular structure with a central watchtower
that was above the cells. In the article Foucault and the Architecture of Surveillance:
Creating Regimes of Power in Schools, Shrines, and Society by Joseph Piro he
states , The Panopticon is a prison that is built radially, so that one guard positioned
in its center can view all prisoners. Foucault mapped out the origins of the

The Light and Dark of Colonialism in Heart of Darkness
In the opening of his novel, Heart of Darkness, Conrad, through Marlow, establishes
his thoughts on colonialism. He says that conquerors only use brute force, nothing to
boast of because it arises, by accident, from another s weakness. Marlow compares
his subsequent tale of colonialism with that of the Roman colonization of Northern
Europe and the fascination associated with such an endeavor. However, Marlow
challenges this viewpoint by painting a heinous picture of the horrors of colonialist
ventures as we delve deeper into the recesses of the novel. Here we find that Marlow
sees colonization as robbery with violence, aggravated murder on a great scale, and

Like Marlow, Kurtz began his employment with the ivory company with noble
intentions: he wants to create a better way of life for the natives. However, because
of extreme hardships placed upon him by the manager, Kurtz becomes the dark half
of the soul: he symbolizes what Marlow may have become if placed in Kurtz position.
As the treacherous villain of the tale the manager, signifies total darkness and
blackness of the soul, as he is responsible for the severely unbalanced priorities of the
company through the extreme importance given to the obtaining of ivory and the
deficiency of importance given to human lives.
Conrad also implements minor characters to further the unexpected distinction
between dark and light, black and white. The white pilgrims are portrayed as
materialistic, ivory hungry opportunists with black souls; their behavior is violent
and savage. Contrariwise, the black natives are civil, spiritual, and have white souls.
In the beginning of the novel, Conrad creates the fellow seamen who accompany
Marlow on his present journey and listen to his tale of the Congo to establish the
contrast between the materialistic and the spiritual. The fellow sailors do not
understand Marlow s tale and chastise him throughout, showing their reluctance and

Themes In Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises
In The Sun Also Rises, friendships are tested, romance is running high, and people
reveal their true colors. There is a lot of drama that seems to unfold throughout the
novel. The organization of the novel makes the drama seem more drastic. The Sun
Also Rises doesn t seem to have an effect on today s generation, or how we view
society. This novel had many bumps and curves as it goes, but it was a pleasure to
read.
For me, this novel was very hard to follow. I couldn t seem to make sense of the
way that things were worded or what even was happening at some points. The way
that Hemingway described certain things just lost me and I failed to understand what
he was meaning. Other times however, I understood perfectly what was ... Show more

For instance, if Brett would have gone to Spain by herself before the others arrived,
she might have fallen in love with someone else. The Sun Also Rises was organized to
what seemed to be the best way possible.
The Sun Also Rises has very few different aspects to it that can affect the way
society is today. In some circumstances, such as when Brett let the young
bullfighter go because she didn t want to hurt his career, it taught readers that
sometimes you have to think about others before you think about yourself. Also,
when Jack helped Brett find her love, even though he was in love with her, it
showed maturity that some people lack today. However, there are other things such
as the bullfighting that are not relatable for people that live in the United States.
There s not many things that today s generation can relate to in this novel. Things
are very different now, the way people act, talk, the things they do, etc. There is a
big difference in the 1920 s and the year 2017, things have changed. It s very
challenging for me to find things that relate to today s world.
There were different symbols and motifs used in The Sun Also Rises. A couple
motifs might be excessive drinking and false friendships. These motifs are relatable
even in today s world. There was a lot of sneaking around behind one another s backs
and doing things that maybe the others wouldn t agree with. Also, there is a
What Is Pythias A Tyrant
The story of Damon and Pythias is a perfect example of what the highest point of
what friendship can be. The story also shows what a tyrant is by the series of
events that occur within the story. In addition the story so far is about two
noblemen named Damon and Pythias, they are what it means to have a perfect
friendship. They would risk their life for each other in any given situation. Then the
worst of them all occurs, King Dionysius a treacherous ruler who fits the
description of what a tyrant is has a dream that Pythias is going to overthrow him
from his title as king. Pythias was accused of trying to overthrow King Dionysius
with no way to prove his innocence to the king s liking, and was then sentenced to
death. The king was going to
Switzerland Research Paper
Switzerland is best known for its chocolate, cheese and its Alps. However, its also
known for its amazing and universal healthcare. So what makes Switzerland s
healthcare so efficient? This research paper will examine certain factors that
contribute to the overall successes of the Switzerland healthcare system such as out
of pocket expenses, health statistics, the organization of healthcare, the distribution of
responsibility between the federal and local governments and the income tax
structure. By analyzing these elements, the strengths can be appreciated and new
ideas can be formed to fix the current flaws present in the system. No healthcare

Therefore, the government plays a significant role in the socialized healthcare
system. The system s responsibilities are divided between federal, cantonal and
municipal government levels. The 26 cantons and 6 half cantons, which are like
states, are responsible for the healthcare present in each canton. It licenses
providers, arranges and manages hospital services and subsidized institutions and
individual premiums. The federal government regulates the overall payments and
finances, ensures the safety and quality of medical equipment and pharmaceutical
drugs, supervise public health initiatives and supports medical research and
training. The municipalities are responsible for nursing homes and social support
for susceptible groups (Commonwealth Fund). Although the entire population,
which was 8.42 million as of January 1st 2017, is covered, all citizens have to pay
some out of pocket expenses for healthcare treatments and provisions. Patients
have to pay 10% of the total medical bill. According to World Bank, 26.8% was the
out of pocket health expenditure (% of total expenditure on health) as of 2014
(World Bank). No free treatment exists and the fees are very high. All patients
who are citizens must an excess fee that exists between 184 EUR (219.47 USD) to
1,350 EUR (1610.21 USD). In addition to this payment, they also have to pay 10
percent of the overall medical cost. Only pregnant women are excused from this fee.

The Library Tab On The Bucks County Community College
Website
As we become more dependent on the internet and technology and less on books it is
important for learners to be information literate so they can determine reliable sources
from unreliable ones. With the use of C.R.A.A.P.P Test, the Bucks County
Community College databases, and information literacy I was able to obtain and use
information found in my five sources for my second information speech on the
telephone. The majority of my sources were found using the databases under the
library tab on the Bucks County Community College website. The first database I
used was EBSCOhost because it s a general database that covers all subjects and
many types of resources, with scholarly and non scholarly articles. Through the

The currency of the article is very recent and can still be useful in my paper because
of how long ago the telephone was invented. The purpose of this article seems to
educate children on the history of the telephone. I chose this article because it was a
short general summary on the history of the telephone and about Alexander Graham
Bell. This article did not provide all the details I needed for my paper but was good
overview of information I could use in my paper. The next article I used was also
from EBSCOhost called Thank You, Mr. Bell by Brian Croft. Croft is a consultant
of the Towers Perrin in Toronto. The article was published by Workforce which is
a business magazine for leaders in human resources covering all aspects of
personnel and human resources management. This article was published in January
of 1997. Even though the article was published 20 years ago, it is still a relevant
source for my topic of the telephone considering the telephone was invented in
1876. Both of my articles from this database had the authors name, creditability, and
month/year it was published somewhere in the article, making it easy to be
accessed. This made the two articles from EBSCOhost my favorite because I did not
have to search for these things and found the articles reliable. I chose this article
because it was very long and detailed about how the invention of the telephone came
about. The next two articles are from the Credo
Scripture Of Telling The Truth-Classical Game Show
Scripture
To tell the truth classical game show that made its debut on television in 1956. Three
contestants claim to be a person with an unusual distinction or occupation. One of the
three is sworn to tell the truth, while the other two are imposters. All three are
questioned by 4 panelists to discover who is telling the truth and who is being
deceptive.
The show creates a considerable amount of doubt in the minds of the panelists, and
some of the contestants are so convincing they can fool 4 panelists of judges who are
supposed to be shrewd and experience with interacting with people.

I can imagine that Thomas looked over at Peter and said, Why should I believe

of them had deserted Jesus. None of them stood by his side at the critical hour.

Essay On TPL
Effects on TPL services and firm business
Despite the third party logistics was an improvement studies area in a recent
business market, the studies of this area still existed some arguments and limitation
(Marasco, 2008). The literature review in TPL studies based on a comprehensive
literature review, which including some relevant research paper and journal paper
published within the period 1990 to recent years (Selviaridis and spring, 2007). Some
existing studies focus on the benefits and limitation of TPL services for company
management. Leahy (1995) and other scholars were defined as the TPL is usually
associated with the providing of multiple services rather than just isolation transport
functions (Leahy et al., 1995). Therefore, some other research believes that the TPL

More and more scholars realize that the integration of TPL become important
(Fynes et al., 2005). Levary (2000) was defined the integration of supply chain as
the aims and methods to improve the cooperation between company and sources,
staff, and information, also saving the costs (Levary, 2000). The integration of TPL
as a part of supply chain integration, which is a focus on the relationship, location
and operations management in each supply chain process (Zhao et al., 2006).
However, regarding the integration of TPL as a new research problem in supply
chain industry, the scholars have some different opinions in this area (Jayaram and
Tan, 2010). For example, Jayaram and Tan (2010) compare the different TPL
provider that they find the integration of TPL strategy will improve the company
performance. Other research shows that the different influence from the integration of
TPL will based on different company situation, business objectives, development
strategy and level of TPL integration decision (Zhao et al., 2006 and Carr,
Perspectives on Love in Reality Parenting Shows
Many parenting programs have been made in recent years such as the Supernanny
and Brat Camp which were first aired in 2004 and 2005 respectively. Both were
originated from United Kingdom. So, this kind of show is no longer new to the
viewers. All the mentioned parenting shows earlier including the World s Strictest
Parents mainly focuses on the teenagers behavioral problems. (See
openhousecommunity.com.au)
The World s Strictest Parents was interesting because it was truly an account of the
families life. The teenager s outright rebellion against their strict foster parents
increases the tension, excitement and drama of the show. Even so, the host families
in the program show a genuine concern towards the teenagers because they are ...

Third, authoritarian is the best method among the parenting styles to rear a child.
Recall that parenting style is the strategies of the parents use to bring up a child.
According to Diana Baumrind, clinical psychologist, there are four types of parenting
styles namely: authoritative, permissive, authoritarian and uninvolved. Moreover,
these parenting styles, according to studies, produce various outcomes to the children
(See psychology.about.com). Table 1, presents the characteristics of each parenting
styles while Table 2, shows the comparison of the positive and negative effects it
created towards the children.
On the other hand, parenting styles greatly varies across all nations in many
important ways because of factors that affecting it such as culture, religion,
socioeconomic status, education, personality and their own upbringing (See
psychology.about.com). Among these factors, culture plays the most vital role in
parenting styles. For instance, Chinese culture is greatly influenced by Confucian
philosophy which emphasizes respect for authority, devotion to parents, emotional
restraint, and the importance of education. Chinese parents are not necessarily driven
to control their children; instead, they are expected to teach their children how to
maintain harmony with others. That is
Human Behaviorism After The Founding Summary
With all great theorists and their great theories, there are critics who do not all agree
with how their theories are postulated. In the case of B.F. Skinner, some who studied
under him, and other researchers criticized his theory of Behaviorism and its
components. The components that were criticized were his assertions about
economic, social, political, and religious issues, learned behaviors, and the
development of human behavior.
In 1986, B.F. Skinner wrote an article in which he stated, human behavior in the West
has grown weak, but it can be strengthened through the application of principles
derived from an experimental analysis of behavior (Schultz, D., Schultz, S. (2012).

Case Law
TO: Isotola, Sui Alberto FROM: Tom Caulton RE: Possible Action for Damages
Isotola, Sui and Alberto (the plaintiffs) are interested to see what damages they can
recover if they succeeded in negligence against the Dunedin City Council (DCC).
Does the defendant (Dunedin City Council) owe a duty of care to the particular
plaintiffs in the circumstances? Prior cases really only dealt with the builders being
responsible for the defect in the construction of a particular structure. In recent cases,
Sunset Terraces, it was outlined that Councils do in fact owe a Duty of Care thus the
rule in Bowen v Paramount Builders Ltd crafted by Richmond P can be applied to
our current case. Consequently, when the DCC selected a certifier who... Show more

Cooke J s analysis of this element in Bowen appears to have more merit where he
says: new and distinct damage is a new cause of action this seems far more just and
fair in the current circumstances. Therefore, the court will likely sway towards
utilising Cooke J s obiter statement as it appears to be more persuasive in the
context of our current case. Resulting in the plaintiffs cause of action likely to be
valid for a claim as there was new and distinct damage within 6 years. Were there
any previous settlements with the Plaintiff? In January 2006, both parties (DCC
Dorothy) entered into a contract stating that the repair work done (fixing previous
subsidence) was accepted as full settlement of any claim. Can our current plaintiffs
still sue? Woodhouse J: once settled with one person it limits liability to others,
assuming the defect has been repaired. This submission was rejected by the other
judges. Cooke J comments: as long as there is new and distinct damage a fresh
cause of action arises. This ruling is more favourable for the plaintiffs as the
damage is new a distinct (April 2007) therefore a cause of action is applicable. The
DCC could have been able to obtain some support under this section, Richmond P:
Bring in the person who previously settled as a joint tortfeasor. However in this case
Dorothy (previous settler) is bankrupt, leaving no potential assistance. Consequently,
the plaintiffs are likely to have a cause of action against the DCC as
Desegregation In 1964 And The Civil Rights Act Of 1964
The Civil Rights Act of 1964, a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement, was
passed in order to ban discrimination in public places as well as strengthen the role of
the federal government to end segregation in public places. Also included in this act
was the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission which was established in order
to ensure racial discrimination was not occurring within employment. The aspect of
desegregation was not occurring rapidly in Southern states, such as Alabama. Not
only was desegregation not occurring quickly under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 but
also the act did not address any issues with voting rights among the African American
community. The civil rights movement grew strong in southern regions especially
racially tense areas such as Selma. In the city of Selma as well as a variety of other
southern regions, African Americans were harassed when attempting to practice their
fundamental rights of voting through poll taxes and literacy tests. In 1965, only 1%
of African Americans were registered to vote in Selma but 50% of Selma s
population was African American. In order to address the lack of voting rights,
Martin Luther King and the SNCC worked vigorously on setting up marches to
overcome the injustice that was occurring in Selma. Due to the overly aggressive
authorities in the South, a majority of the marches ended violently thus increasing
public support for new legislation to ensure the basic right of voting to the African

The Need of Changing in Organizations
Organizations age, and grow seeking specific goals, while the organization
constructs and reconstructs a number of these organizations develop negative
habits, and processes adapting to changing circumstances. History and today s
society has recognized that change is necessary to meet the ever changing needs of
the individuals and the environment. Today changes are necessary to retain a
competitive lead, or factors based on the economy. Change has never been an easy
process as resistance is always present, with impediments existing at all levels from
the organization as a whole down to individual staff members. The responsibility lies
with the senior managers to recognize the source and build a plan to remedy the
resistance before it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some individuals resist change for multiple reasons, and to add complexity, the stated
reason hides a more real personal reason. Initially the individuals experience denial,
then realize that they cannot ignore the change(s), and other feelings surface; such as
anger, apprehension, frustration, and the feeling of defenselessness. Individuals will
either negatively accept the change with complacency or resignation, or accept the
change positively with enthusiasm for the new change(s). If any individual is caught
in a stage, leaders must offer reinforcement, and permitting the individual space as
the stage is worked through, and listen with empathy ( Resistance to change , n.d.)..
The proposed organizational change may influence the work habits developed by
individuals and bad habits are hard to break , but the bad habits have to be broken
for the advancement of the organization. The organizational change will bring
individuals a feeling of insecurity and can reveal itself in increased employee
turnover and absenteeism and individuals may take an extreme measure to avert
changes from occurring (Akin, Dunford, Palmer, 2006). Then there are groups within
organizations may resist change, as groups tend to develop shared behaviors, and
change may possibly alter the group cultural dynamics disrupting
The Key Role Of Finance
The key role of finance in any business is to manage money; whether it be raising
capital through share capital and bank loans, raising credit (short term capital), or
handling the costs of the business. Without finance, a business would not function, as
quoted by (Griffin, 2015); Money is the lifeblood of a business and financeis the nerve
center .
Key activities of the finance department:
Firstly, one of the key activities of the finance department is to maintain a check on
the costs/outgoings of the business. This is important because if the business spends
too much, it may have to dip into its capital money invested into the business to start
it in the first place or it may have to take out bank loans, in order to finance the ...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is very important because a business needs to know exactly where and when
all of its money has been spent at any given time in order to be able to reduce the
costs for the future. For example, for the year ending 2014 Arcadia Group generated
ВЈ316.8 million revenue and finished up with ВЈ143.1 million pre tax profit.
(Limited, 2014) The decisions made by the accountants in the finance department
leading up to and after the publication of these figures is essential to the financial
success of the Arcadia Group (Topshop, Top man, Wallis, etc). Without constant
reviews and informed judgements and decisions (Weetman, 2006) by the accountants
in finance, the Arcadia Group would start to make a loss and possibly, eventually go
bankrupt. By evaluating the figures and reaching conclusions on them, the Arcadia
Group will be better able to maximize the profits for the company.
Key tools and ideas that are critical to finance:
One of the key ideas behind the finance function is the question; Is the business
making a profit? This is because without making a profit, a business would not
continue to exist. For example, in 2013 Ford made $8.6 billion in pre tax profits, but
in 2014 Ford made $6.3 billion, so there was a drop of $2.3 billion (Ford,

  • 2. List Of Major Countries With The World Bank 1.Identify three major countries with which your chosen company operates. Preferably, the three countries are in different continents. Three major locations where they operate are the United States, the United Kingdom, and Afghanistan. 2.Are these three countries members of the IMF, the World Bank, and WTO? Afghanistan is a member of the IMF and the World Bank; however, it is not yet a member of the WTO, although its admission has been rumored to be near at hand for the past five years or so, along with other countries in the region, such as Kazakhstan (World Bank, 2015; Miles, 2014). Although Afghanistan is a member of the IMF and World Bank, the tumultuous security situation in the country over the past 50 years has seen its... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As they both have robust international economic trade that continues to trend upwards, it s fair to say that their institutional structures do encourage globalization on a large scale. Afghanistan is not a country that has a transparent institutional structure. The political institution, although it has improved over the past year, continues to be a religiously dominated hierarchy that does not lend itself well to international cooperation and global trade (Barfield, 2010). Their judiciary system, although it has made a large deal of progress over the past 15 years, still remains antiquated and ineffective when compared to other modern judicial systems. It suffers from a large backlog of cases, and also a generalized disagreement with Western judicial prosecution that has been imposed, although it goes against the government s own religious views on judicial punishment. 5.Do you believe that the three countries under consideration practice policies that promote globalization? For example, what are those countries policies toward (a) governance, (b) competitive markets, (c) property rights, and (d) corruption? Countries of operation promotion of globalization. I think that the United States and the United Kingdom both have similar policies concerning governance, competitive

  • 4. Comparing Gilgamesh And Noah And The Flood The book of Gilgamesh and Noah And The Flood are both epic stories with a different outlook on the flood. The two stories are clashing tales with flood and deals and death. They both have different religions and story lines which leads to the great Floods. Utnapishtim haves many Gods, and Noah haves one God. Utnapishtim gained everlasting life because of the flood. Noah got reward with grace and peace for flood. The cause of the floods were quite similar but didn t really connect. In the book of Gilgamesh the gods were upset because the humans were too noisy and couldn t sleep. The Gods didn t care if they were wicked or not they just wanted peace. Enlil the head god took it into his own hands and sent a dream out. He sent it to Utnapishtim cause he was the only one not acting crazy. Well in the book of Noah his God was upset with all the wickedness that were going on in the land. When he made them he wanted them to be pure but they were killing each other and getting drunk etc. Both stories happen because their God or Gods were upset at them. They were different reasons Gilgamesh Gods were mad because they didn t get sleep and Noah s God was mad cause their was so much destruction in the land. In the stories they choose certain people to lead this flood on and gave task to what they needed to do. In the book of Gilgamesh the head of Gods Enlil choose Utnapishtim prepare for the flood. Enlil told Utnapishtim to build a boat, gather animals, food, and bring his family
  • 5. Training Day Vs Serpico Research Paper Running head: Compare and Contrast Compare and Contrast April Smolkowicz Georgia Gwinnett College Upon watching the movie Serpico that was located in New York in 1973, and the movie Training Day that was located in Los Angeles in 2001, these were two different movies filmed years apart also geographically thousands of miles apart. I believe that both movies sharing similarities and differences can be discussed in three ways being: police corruption and misconduct, morals and the third category is education value. I will first start with the time period of the 1970 s movie Serpico; a New York police officer transfers to another precinct to work as an undercover police officer. Serpico witnesses his colleges accepting bribes, collecting for their division, committing violence, and refusing to take emergency calls, drawing their guns then shooting at individuals before knowing the situation. While Serpico refuses to accept bribes or anything that was not legal, his colleges in turn didn t trust him. Serpico being a man of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After being shot in the face from a drug bust gone wrong, Serpico resigned from the police force unlike Detective Alonzo who was killed by the Russian mafia. Clearly you could tell that both of these detectives had morals and knew what they needed to do in order to try and correct circumstances that had gone terribly wrong. Serpico was honest and showed integrity. It took guts for him to stand his ground even if that meant putting his life in danger to do what was ethically right. A gold shield was handed to him after he was shot, no ceremony was held. The thing that both detectives have in common is that they didn t sign up for the corruption they were exposed to and made lasting impressions that they didn t have to be involved in order to be a good police
  • 6. Holden Caulfield Innocence Innocence may be preserved in a child indefinitely. However, influences from both family and society impose standards of maturity on children which gradually strip the youthfulness away from a child. Additionally, children may isolate themselves or face ostracization, which leads to the degradation of a childs purity as he begins creating his own unique worldview apart of his community. Parents are the closest influence on a developing child. Therefore, their mature actions are bound to accumulate over the child, instigating his growth from childhoodinnocence. This is especially true when parents perform their intense habits in front of their kids. This is outlined by Theodore Roethke who recalls his father through a poem. He states how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This leads to a loss of innocence as the child begins maturing individually and creating their own unique worldview. J.D. Salinger Highlights this in Catcher in the Rye through Holden Caulfield, and then reveals the huge remorse which this character faces for isolating himself. Near the end of the novel Salinger reveals that Holden sort of [misses] everybody [he] told about... (Salinger) his life and with whom he interacted. This demonstrates that Holden did have some meaningful connections in his life at one time, but eventually lost them because of his isolation, which caused a large amount of regret and loss of his innocence. This is most evident as Holden states that he even missed that... Maurice... who was a pimp that solicited Holden earlier in the book. That scene, in which Holden hired a prostitute, was the penultimate indicator that Holden was isolating himself. Even though he is a teenager, Holden traveled to a city alone to perform mature tasks in order to prove that maturity to himself. These grown up activities ultimately lead to Holden s dissatisfaction with adulthood. By the end of this novel, Holden is stuck reminiscing about his past and yearning to go back his childhood. Because of his isolation and desire to be mature, Holden essentially lost all of his innocence and fully transformed from a child to an adult. Similarly many children lose their innocence as a result of their own changing views of the world. Seamus Heaney outlines this in Blackberry Picking where he states that, each year [he] hoped [his blackberries would] keep but knew they would not. (Heaney) This is an important reminder that time is the ultimate thief of childhood. Despite a lack of outside influences, Heaney compares his childhood to blackberries to convey that eventually, both would rot. In time, he knew that nothing completely pure in his
  • 7. Imagery In Mid Term Break In this essay, I will be focusing on the two elegies, Mid term Break and Funeral Blues, and how they make use of numerous literary and poetic techniques to convey the grief reflected from the individuals in the poem. Mid term Break is written about Seamus Heaney s younger brother, Christopher, who died in a car accident while Heaney was away at boarding school. He also writes his poems autobiographically, many involving his family relationships. The title signifies the irony of its association with celebration its contradiction to a traumatising death. Funeral Blues was written in 1936 to be used in a play by W.H. Auden, who was homosexual. He uses these most prominently to depict the film s villain as an authoritarian, power hungry, and cruel man. This harsh commander has total power over the rural town that he inhabits and the steely blue lighting is able to demonstrate that immaculately. It illustrates a gloomy atmosphere that he himself has created, as whenever there are scenes set in his village, the cold blue tones are cast over the screen. The blue lighting is there to highlight that the events in reality are cold natured and unjust. He speaks only in a short and sharp manner, consistently ordering other s about. The techniques by del Toro are used to manipulate the viewer s attitude towards Vidal thus giving a strict, controlling, and heartless impression of him. Lighting is used as a major technique in this film as it is often used to set the mood. Due to Vidal s world always being shown enveloped in blue grey hue, it immediately shows the viewers that is isn t a welcoming place to be. This shade of lighting helps create a detached feeling which is in great contrast to the golden, homely, and warm lighting of Ofelia s fantasy world portraying a safe and enchanting atmosphere. This is most apparent at the end of the film when Ofelia is lying in the labyrinth close to death. When Vidal has just shot her, dark blue shadows loom into the air, they begin to

Freedom would make it possible to create a new kind of government without a king. In the democracy envisioned by the country s earliest leaders, Americans would govern themselves based on certain principles or ideals. Few people at the time thought that the American Revolutionwould succeed and the Americans could win a war against the world s greatest empire. At the beginning of the war, there was no regular American army, just a militia made up of civilians and most of them were farmers. Naturally, they were not used to long campaigns or battles with British Regulars, and thousands quit. General Washington begged the Continental Congress to provide a regular army of men enlisted for a long term, but Congress felt that step would violate civil liberties. It was only after so many American defeats threatened the war effort that Congress agreed to offer extra pay to officers and privates and pledged to see the war to an end. By 1775, tension between the colonies and the mother country had reached the breaking point. British troops in Boston learned that the colonists had hidden a large collection of weapons in nearby Concord. Sons of Liberty Paul Revere and William Dawes rode to warn of the impending British attack by way of the Charles River; the most direct route. Just as the sun was rising on April 19, 1775, British soldiers reached Lexington. Eight Minutemen were killed and several others

In many of his short stories, Poe was able to exploit his audience s fears through allegory and descriptive details of murder and madness. One of Poe s captivating, yet mad, narrators helms The Black Cat, a tale of paranoia, alcoholism, and murder. There are several things that make the narrator an intriguing character including his psychological state, the imp of the perverse, and the effect that alcoholism has on him. Like in many of his tales, the narrator murders both his beloved Pluto and his wife, on two separate occasions, yet denies that he has been stricken by madness and is instead intent on setting the record straight. • 33. The Birthmark By Nathaniel Hawthorne Ali Qutab Honor American Literature The Birthmark : Essay #4 December 30th, 2015 The Effect of Nature on the Scientific Ego of Aylmer Throughout, The Birthmark , by Nathaniel Hawthorne, symbolism and imagery are used to show that Aylmer s attempt to perfect something natural is the cause of Georgiana s death and that when man manipulates something as powerful as Nature, terrible things can occur. Aylmer is a scientist whose strives for perfection and is blinded by his love for science, resulting in the death of his wife due to his attempt to overpower Nature and dispose of the birthmark on her cheek. This signifies the ultimate reality that man cannot achieve perfection by defeating Nature. Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark demonstrates how the writer uses the development of characters in the story to create a better understanding of the story s themes. In this short story, Hawthorne uses symbolism and imagery to emphasize the strange shape of the earthly imperfection (Hawthorne, 148), which is Georgiana s birthmark, and his obsession in changing it. The shape of the birthmark bore a little similarity to the human hand (148). Hawthorne s use of symbolism distinguishes connection between the hand like shape of the birthmark and the need to remove it by the same means; by using the human hand. In the beginning of the story, Georgiana was described as being angelic due to her beauty, but not perfect. It was implied that the birthmark

In Foucault s panopticism he talks about the panopticon, an architectural plan that was created by Jeremy Bentham. The Prison structure of the twenty first century uses that same building design as the panopticon. We see how the plague town in the Panopticism shows a chain of authority. Prisons in the twenty first century use the same style of chain of authority in their correctional institutes. The panopticon brings out a lot of mental effect to the prisoners when they are sent into the cell. Prisoners in today s society society go through the same mental effects of inmates in the Panopticon. The ideas of panopticism are relevant to the development of the twenty first century through building structure, a chain of authority command, guard surveillance, and mental effects that prisoners go through. Foucault uses Bentham s panopticon, a design for a model prison, as a symbol for disciple methods that operates through a variety of ideas. The Panopticon was architectural design that has cells in a circular structure with a central watchtower that was above the cells. In the article Foucault and the Architecture of Surveillance: Creating Regimes of Power in Schools, Shrines, and Society by Joseph Piro he states , The Panopticon is a prison that is built radially, so that one guard positioned in its center can view all prisoners. The APA and the United States government presented Skinner with many awards for his contributions to science. In 1958, the APA awarded Skinner with the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award, noting that few American psychologists have had so profound an impact on the development of psychology and on promising younger psychologists (Schultz, D., Schultz, S. • 49. Case Law TO: Isotola, Sui Alberto FROM: Tom Caulton RE: Possible Action for Damages Isotola, Sui and Alberto (the plaintiffs) are interested to see what damages they can recover if they succeeded in negligence against the Dunedin City Council (DCC). Does the defendant (Dunedin City Council) owe a duty of care to the particular plaintiffs in the circumstances? Prior cases really only dealt with the builders being responsible for the defect in the construction of a particular structure. In recent cases, Sunset Terraces, it was outlined that Councils do in fact owe a Duty of Care thus the rule in Bowen v Paramount Builders Ltd crafted by Richmond P can be applied to our current case. Consequently, when the DCC selected a certifier who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cooke J s analysis of this element in Bowen appears to have more merit where he says: new and distinct damage is a new cause of action this seems far more just and fair in the current circumstances. Therefore, the court will likely sway towards utilising Cooke J s obiter statement as it appears to be more persuasive in the context of our current case. Resulting in the plaintiffs cause of action likely to be valid for a claim as there was new and distinct damage within 6 years. Were there any previous settlements with the Plaintiff? In January 2006, both parties (DCC Dorothy) entered into a contract stating that the repair work done (fixing previous subsidence) was accepted as full settlement of any claim. Can our current plaintiffs still sue? Woodhouse J: once settled with one person it limits liability to others, assuming the defect has been repaired. This submission was rejected by the other judges. Cooke J comments: as long as there is new and distinct damage a fresh cause of action arises. This ruling is more favourable for the plaintiffs as the damage is new a distinct (April 2007) therefore a cause of action is applicable. The DCC could have been able to obtain some support under this section, Richmond P: Bring in the person who previously settled as a joint tortfeasor. However in this case Dorothy (previous settler) is bankrupt, leaving no potential assistance. Consequently, the plaintiffs are likely to have a cause of action against the DCC as
  • 50. Desegregation In 1964 And The Civil Rights Act Of 1964 The Civil Rights Act of 1964, a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement, was passed in order to ban discrimination in public places as well as strengthen the role of the federal government to end segregation in public places. Also included in this act was the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission which was established in order to ensure racial discrimination was not occurring within employment. The aspect of desegregation was not occurring rapidly in Southern states, such as Alabama. Not only was desegregation not occurring quickly under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 but also the act did not address any issues with voting rights among the African American community. The civil rights movement grew strong in southern regions especially racially tense areas such as Selma. In the city of Selma as well as a variety of other southern regions, African Americans were harassed when attempting to practice their fundamental rights of voting through poll taxes and literacy tests. In 1965, only 1% of African Americans were registered to vote in Selma but 50% of Selma s population was African American. In order to address the lack of voting rights, Martin Luther King and the SNCC worked vigorously on setting up marches to overcome the injustice that was occurring in Selma. Due to the overly aggressive authorities in the South, a majority of the marches ended violently thus increasing public support for new legislation to ensure the basic right of voting to the African American

The Need of Changing in Organizations Organizations age, and grow seeking specific goals, while the organization constructs and reconstructs a number of these organizations develop negative habits, and processes adapting to changing circumstances. History and today s society has recognized that change is necessary to meet the ever changing needs of the individuals and the environment. Today changes are necessary to retain a competitive lead, or factors based on the economy. Change has never been an easy process as resistance is always present, with impediments existing at all levels from the organization as a whole down to individual staff members. The responsibility lies with the senior managers to recognize the source and build a plan to remedy the resistance before it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some individuals resist change for multiple reasons, and to add complexity, the stated reason hides a more real personal reason. Initially the individuals experience denial, then realize that they cannot ignore the change(s), and other feelings surface; such as anger, apprehension, frustration, and the feeling of defenselessness. Individuals will either negatively accept the change with complacency or resignation, or accept the change positively with enthusiasm for the new change(s). If any individual is caught in a stage, leaders must offer reinforcement, and permitting the individual space as the stage is worked through, and listen with empathy ( Resistance to change , n.d.).. The proposed organizational change may influence the work habits developed by individuals and bad habits are hard to break , but the bad habits have to be broken for the advancement of the organization. The organizational change will bring individuals a feeling of insecurity and can reveal itself in increased employee turnover and absenteeism and individuals may take an extreme measure to avert changes from occurring (Akin, Dunford, Palmer, 2006). Then there are groups within organizations may resist change, as groups tend to develop shared behaviors, and change may possibly alter the group cultural dynamics disrupting
  • 52. The Key Role Of Finance The key role of finance in any business is to manage money; whether it be raising capital through share capital and bank loans, raising credit (short term capital), or handling the costs of the business. Without finance, a business would not function, as quoted by (Griffin, 2015); Money is the lifeblood of a business and financeis the nerve center . Key activities of the finance department: Firstly, one of the key activities of the finance department is to maintain a check on the costs/outgoings of the business. This is important because if the business spends too much, it may have to dip into its capital money invested into the business to start it in the first place or it may have to take out bank loans, in order to finance the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is very important because a business needs to know exactly where and when all of its money has been spent at any given time in order to be able to reduce the costs for the future. For example, for the year ending 2014 Arcadia Group generated ВЈ316.8 million revenue and finished up with ВЈ143.1 million pre tax profit. (Limited, 2014) The decisions made by the accountants in the finance department leading up to and after the publication of these figures is essential to the financial success of the Arcadia Group (Topshop, Top man, Wallis, etc). Without constant reviews and informed judgements and decisions (Weetman, 2006) by the accountants in finance, the Arcadia Group would start to make a loss and possibly, eventually go bankrupt. By evaluating the figures and reaching conclusions on them, the Arcadia Group will be better able to maximize the profits for the company. Key tools and ideas that are critical to finance: One of the key ideas behind the finance function is the question; Is the business making a profit? This is because without making a profit, a business would not continue to exist. For example, in 2013 Ford made $8.6 billion in pre tax profits, but in 2014 Ford made $6.3 billion, so there was a drop of $2.3 billion (Ford,
