Tom Ripley Symbolism
Tom Ripley isn t entirely sure of who he is, taking on the identity of multiple characters to hide behind
a mask of insecurity. We meet him in the beginning of Patricia Highsmith s, The Talented Mr. Ripley
taking on someone else s job as well as pretending to be a well educated well mannered Princeton
graduate. Tom Ripley has gotten away with all his frauds, impersonations, and forgeries until his past
comes back to haunt him. His imagination runs wild as he imagines the horrible deeds he has done
manifesting into panic attacks and compulsions. Despite Tom Ripley being an unlikeable character, he
seems to capture the reader s attention by the end of the story. Following Tom through his insecurities
and thoughts, the reader soon realizes that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He shows his clear dislike towards Tom sticking around forever as they travel to San Remo. Toms
desires to become Dickie are evident after this scene as Tom stared at Dickie s closed eyelids. A crazy
emotion of hate, of affection, of impatience and frustration, was swelling in him, hampering his
breathing. He wanted to kill Dickie (Highsmith 95). Toms desire to be accepted clouds his reasoning
as he devises a sinister plan to kill and take over Dickie s life. Through his thoughts, we find that he
cannot differentiate between right and wrong. Morality never plays a part in his decisions, as he s
given a choice; let Dickie live or take his identity. Because of Toms envy of Dickie s life, he demands
his life, most people would just be envious, but not Ripley. He has other plans. Tom has no ability in
making conscientious decisions. When he is faced with people he dislikes, he thinks that the only
reasonable way to deal with them is murder. As his role as Dickie Greenleaf slowly comes to an end,
after too many problems follow him he reflects on going

Reflection Of A Symphony Orchestra
On November 29, 2017, during a Wednesday night, I attended a Symphony Orchestra. The
performance was played by the University of Houston Symphony Orchestra in Moores Opera House
at the Moores School of Music. The performance was conducted by two different conductors. The first
conductor was Carlos Guillermo Jung, he conducted the first piece which was a piece by Pyotr Ilyich
Tchaikovsky called Fantasy which is a Romeo and Juliet Overture. The next conductor was Franz
Anton Krager, he conducted the Cello Concerto No. 1 in A Minor, Op. 33, by Camille Saint Saens
which also included Vagram Saradjian, who was a guest cellist performer. The next piece conducted
by Fran Anton Krager was the Symphony No.5 in C minor, Op. 67 by Ludwig van Beethoven. The
performance overall was over two hours, but was very entertaining and captured my attention the
whole time. The first piece that was conducted by Jung called Romeo and Juliet Overture Fantasy,
which is an orchestral work composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Tchaikovsky was one of the top
composers during the Romantic era who was inspired by the work of Shakespeare. The overture
outlines the plot of Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet. The genre of the piece is overture, the form
is sonata, and the meter is duple or to some people, it may seem like the meter is quadruple.
Throughout the performance, some themes were mostly led by the woodwind section, more
specifically the clarinets and bassoons, and another theme was led by

Science Technology Essay
Science Technology company case
After reviewing the financial forecast from Science Technology Company and Semiconductor
industry market situation, I concluded that 30% annual growth is not feasible, optimistic growth
forecast is 15% .Because world semiconductor shipment kept growing, but not just semiconductor
market but electronic products market was also dominated large market by Japanese manufacturers. If
the company carried on with the same profit/cost structure, the company s ROA would be 5% more or
less in next 5 years, EPS would be 0.44 0.97 and stock price would goes down to less $10 less $20. I
can assume that there is no additional stock issuance. As of 1984, the ROA is 5.6%, EPS 0.57 and
stock price $13 $37.

Major semiconductor market was in Japan (more than 50%). Japanese semiconductor supplier
dominated Japanese market due to its exclusive market structure and started to increased market
shares in US market, but US supplier could not do so.
3. Demands for testers from Semiconductor customer
Higher speed to go into manufacturing a new design products required more testability. To find out
detective/reject before mounting on the board, to spot early production stage and ATE increased its
presence in production. Sales in total ATE $359 (1978) to $1.6billion (1984) 28% /year growth,
expected $4billion in 1988 at 26% compound annual growth rare.
4 .Growth driver
・More semiconductor was built in more electronic products and its shipment kept growing
・Labor rate increase required automate testing operation to reduce labor cost.
・Specialization, work division due to more complexity and high cost to develop semiconductor
device tester
・Improvement of testing technology and tested devices change
・After inflation settled, interest rate decreased and corporate income tax would reduce from 46% to
34% in 1986 to stimulate more investment.
・Semiconductor agreement between Japan and USA due to lobbying and US government put
pressure to Japanese government to open Japanese market.
・National project SEMATECH started to recover the position in semiconductor market.
・Plaza Agreement in 1985 allowed weak US dollar and advantaged export increase.

General Comments 1. While mentioned several times in the technical memorandum, the following
represent important aspects that need to be considered for any and all alternatives: Further sediment
delineation of the sediment management areas (SMAs): A single sample location has been used to
delineate the entire 0.9 acre SMA. Further delineation is in order for SMAs. For any alternative
including dredging confirmation sampling of the floor and sides of excavation should be performed to
assure that adequate material has been removed. (see specific comments) The key question for any
confirmation sampling is what criterion is chosen to decide that additional removal is, or is not,
necessary. Clearly the final SWAC (be it 0.5 or 1.7 milligrams per kilogram [mg/kg]) should not be
used because this is an area weighted concentration. How will the ... Show more content on

risks predicted for total PCBs and TEQs under USEPA RME assumptions fall within the 10 6 to 10 4
range (i.e., 9 x 10 5 and 1 x 10 4, respectively). This cancer risk evaluation is inconsistent with United
States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) guidance (USEPA. 1996. PCBs: Cancer Dose
Response Assessment and Application to Environmental Mixtures. EPA/600/P 96/001F. September)
which specifies that high risk total PCB cancer risk must be added to the PCB congener 2,3,7,8
tetrachlorodibenzo p dioxin toxic equivalency cancer risk. Consequently the total cancer risk is 0.9 x
10 4 + 1 x 10 4 or 2 x 10 4, which exceeds the USEPA acceptable risk range. In addition, the second
remedial action objective (RAO) on page 4 regarding cancer risks must be addressed because total
cancer risks exceed the acceptable USEPA risk range. It is possible that the documented proposed
remedial action will reduce cancer risks to acceptable levels, but this must be demonstrated, and
cancer risks considered for derivation of the

Auction Theory, The Challenges Of Auction
While auctions are appealing in theory, the challenges of auction design in practice are
insurmountable?
Auction theory is ubiquitous within modern research areas in economics. With increasing popularity,
auctions have been upheld as an accomplishment of economic practices. The significance of auctions
has internationally been recognised as a means to sell of goods in a non established market. The
auction theory is compelling for two distinct reasons. First, numerous commodities are traded at
auctions. Consequently, it is vital to recognise the functionality of auctions, and which auctions
perform greatest through observing the generation of revenue or efficient allocation. Secondly, the
concept of auctions is an essential theory within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is where bidders submit simultaneous sealed bids to the venders; the highest bidder receives the
item and pays the worth of the second highest bid. (Easley and Kleinberg, 2016)
The English Auction
Milgrom and Weber [13] have shown that the English auction dominates all other auction formats in
terms of seller s expected profit, when the comparison is restricted to symmetric equilibria. Myerson
[14] and Riley and Samuelson [15] explain that if the buyers are risk neutral and have independently
and identically distributed private values, then, for the majority of probability distributions, the seller s
expected profit is maximized making it the optimal bidding strategy. The item is awarded to the
buyers with the highest value, and any buyer whose value is lower than an optimally set threshold
receives zero expected surplus. These two conditions, however, are satisfied by a large array of trading
mechanisms, including each of the standard auctions all with the same seller s reserve price.
In practice, one major problem that occurs with the Standard English Auction is the present of
inadequate reserve prices. Many of the adversities in the English auction were due to auctioneer s
failure to produce a realistic reserve price (the minimum price below which no bids are accepted). For
example, the devastating revenue involvement of the New Zealand s spectrum auction was caused by
the government s failure to set suitable reserve prices in

Essay on No Blood Transfusion for Jehovah s Witnesses
Jehovah s witnesses faith allows them to seek medical help; however, they do not accept blood
transfusions. This belief arises from a biblical passage that states Only flesh with its soul its blood you
must not eat (Genesis 9:3 4), You must not eat the blood of any sort of flesh, because the soul of every
sort of flesh is its blood. I will set my face against that person who eats blood...Anyone eating it will
be cut off (Leviticus 17:10, 13 14). These passages are interpreted by Jehovah s witnesses as
forbidding the transfusion of any blood products. The following presentation will address legal and
ethical issues that can arise from this scenario.

Jehovah s Witnesses respect their religion and their beliefs and many strongly adhere to them because
of the many consequences that they may face. Jehovah s Witness believe that if they accept blood
products, they will suffer severe consequences. Some of the consequences Jehovah s Witness believe
they will encounter include lack of spiritual purpose, relationship with God will be damaged and they
will be expelled from their congregation (Jehovah s Witnesses, 2000). Many parents face the worse
decision when a child is involved.
The following scenario explores the legal and ethical decisions involved with a pediatric patient. A six
year old boy suffering from Sickle cell anemia is brought to the hospital with a crisis. During a sickle
cell anemia crisis, red blood cells are damaged and they are unable to deliver oxygen to the body. The
standard treatment is oxygen, hydration, blood replacements and exchange transfusion (Anita, 2006).
The pediatric patient was admitted in critical condition and a blood transfusion is necessary. Parents
stated they want to save their child and will accept any type of treatment except for blood products.
Adults have the right to refuse any type of treatment including blood products. Nurses are there to
support and advocate for the patient and to assist and support the patient when other methods of
treatment are chosen. Parents with full custody

Analysis Of The Song Accidental Racist
This song was first debuted in 2013 by Brad Paisley from his album Wheelhouse. There was a lot of
controversy about this song because of its racism theme. This song portrays the lack of unity and
togetherness amongst the people of the world. There is a feeling of racism, lack of respect and
discrimination that is reflected in this song. The main concept of this song is for the song writer to
convey a message that cultivates moral value in the mind of the reader or listener. HISTORY OF THE

The Transition to Parenthood Essay
The Transition to Parenthood Section 1: The case study Today, in western industrialized nations, the

Zealand population suggests that couples are having children at a much later phase of life. The median

San Pizarro, A Spanish Explorer And Conquistador
Francisco Pizarro was a Spanish explorer and conquistador who is famous for conquering the Inca
civilization. He was known as being very ambitious and having exceptional leadership abilities as well
as navigational skills (Yost). All these skills were very useful and beneficial in terms of helping him
achieve his goal of crossing the ocean with a small army in order to obtain the riches and wealth of the
Incas. In my opinion Francisco Pizarro was one of the great people who determined and altered the
course of history. The story of his life greatly supports my claim. Francisco was born as an illegitimate
child in Spain, in an area which was stricken by poverty (Biography.com). The fact that he went from
that to being one of the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During their trip they discovered what we now know as the Pacific ocean, but Balboa spotted it first
which is why he is credited for its discovery (New World Encyclopedia). Pizarro had heard of Hernan
Cortes, who conquered the Aztec people and acquired a vast amount of wealth and power. Pizarro
wanted to do something just like that, so he set his sites on the Inca Empire in Peru, South America.
He had learned of the Incas through a rumor from the South American native peoples, they told him of
a vast empire full of precious metals (Yost).
Pizarro now begins to do what he did to change the course of history. In 1524 he took his first
expedition to South America to explore the land and people who lived there. It ended up being very
unsuccessful because of the many problems they had to deal with, such as bad weather, lack of food,
and conflict with the native people (New World Encyclopedia). In 1526 Pizarro set up for a second
expedition, which ended up being much more successful than the first. They were able to go much
more inland and saw the Incas and the riches that they possessed, which supported what Pizarro heard
before (New World Encyclopedia). Here is where things really begin to change. Pizarro didn t want to
take anymore chances, so for a third expedition he did everything in his power to make sure it would
go right. In 1532 Pizarro left on his third expedition to South America and once he reached an Incan
village, Pizarro asked to meet

Johnny Cash and Luke Bryan Essay
Country music is one of the most popular genres of music throughout America. There are many
influential figures that have changed the way country music sounds, and how people interpret it. Two
important people who have made a huge impact on country music overtime are Johnny Cash and Luke
Bryan. From their early life, their career, and how society views them, they have opened the minds of
people and country musicians all over the country. Johnny Cash s songs help people to experience his
life growing up through the Great Depression and how people lived back then. Through Luke Bryan s
songs people could understand what life was like for Luke growing up in Georgia and all the
hardships he faced. Johnny Cash and Luke Bryan are two of the many ... Show more content on

This was a huge upset to Johnny. Especially since his father, Ray Cash, blamed Johnny for Jack s
death. In Edward Willet s The Man in Black he states, Ray told him bluntly that he should of died
rather than his faithful brother. This quote shows how his father made Johnny feel like it was his fault.
To try and deal with his emotions, he started to write. He really started to write how he was feeling. In
spite of this, the tragedy, his fathers accusation, and his own guilt had one positive outcome: it s what
made his creativity in his songs (Neimark 36). His early life growing up through the Great Depression
and all the hardships he faced, were really expressed in the songs that he wrote and performed for
people. This really let people have an inside look on what life was like for people back then.
Luke Bryan was born and raised in Leesburg, Georgia on July 17, 1976 ( Luke Bryan Biography ). His
childhood consisted of hunting, fishing, helping his father with his local business, and singing ( Luke
Bryan Biography ). Supporting his music talent, his family bought him a guitar when he was 14 years
old ( Artists: Luke Bryan ). When Luke and his mother would drive into town to shop, his mother
would encourage him to sing George Strait over and over ( Luke Bryan Biography ). By the age of 15
he started entertaining a small crowd at a local club ( Luke Bryan and Family ). He would go regularly
to sing at the club.

Similarities Between John Berendt s Midnight In The Garden...
The south is known for their sweet accents, their mansion style houses, and their low country soul
food. In addition, the south is known to preserve their history and to keep secrets to themselves. This
book showed how the south had a rude awaking in store for them once a murder prevailed. This
murder, however, was not shared throughout the southern states. In the book Midnight in the Garden
of Good and Evil, by John Berendt, the author is the speaker while also providing credibility in his
work, the occasion being displayed throughout the book influenced the writer in a variety of ways, and
the purpose of the novel was to inform the people of the true southern way of living. First, the speaker,

The murder of Danny Hansford was the main occasion throughout the book. Jim Williams, who was
friends with Hansford, was accused of killing the boy and was charged with murder (171). The body
was found in Williams s house, also known as the Mercer House (3), but once the police arrived, the
body appeared tampered with, making Williams look guilty. Throughout the book, Williams was
questioned and was put on trial multiple times. However, the murder was one of Savannah s secrets
that was not shared with tourist. For example, during a tour of Savannah, they walked past the Mercer
House and the guide shared the history of the house but said nothing about Jim Williams or Danny
Hansford or the sensational murder case that captivated the city (384). As a result, Berendt had a topic
for his book fall right into his hands. He wanted to share this life changing event for the south with
others while also preserving Savannah s history. Berendt understood that Savannah was a self imposed
estrangement from the outside world (384), however, he was not letting this story be forgotten. This
book started out just informing the world on the residents of Savannah, but it turned out to inform the
world on how the south preserves only certain parts of

Blood Brothers Drama Analysis
For the GCSE unit two exam we studied the play Blood Brothers by Willy Russell we used drama
techniques to analyse the different Features of the play. Also, we went into detail with the context
behind the meaning of the play. We used the script as a stimulus to generate a story with the text from
the play. For example, we used a specific part in the play where the narrator stated How quickly an
idea planted can take root and grow into a plan. The thought conceived in this very room grew as
surely as a seed in the mother s womb . This was used to create a piece of drama which had to include
some text from the stimulus here we used the scene where Mrs Johnston tells Mrs Lyons that she is

For example, when Petro said to Michael in a very high pitched voice that You ll go to hell and there
you ll fry . This was seen on page 36 where Mickey used foul language. This was effective for the
audience as it showed the way that children exaggerate to every little thing and their playful attitude.
In Pietro s group, they used an essence machine to show that everything is just a game. This acts in
contrast to the themes of the play Fate, bad luck and destiny. This is because the play has a serious
ending to it as the twins die. Also, Mrs Lyons and Mrs Johnston played around with the destiny of the
boys by taking on the role of God and deciding who gets to look after which twin.
Facial expressions were used for example this was seen when Tyres was playing Mrs Lyons and
Amirah was playing Mrs Johnston Amirah told Tyres that she was pregnant with twins. He grinned
and looked up at the sky this was used to show the audience that he was evil and sinister. This related
back to the theme of Nature vs. nurture this is because the twins were both raised is two different
environments. This was used to show how manipulative Mrs Lyons was. Also, as he was talking to
Mrs Lyons rolled her eyes to show how confused she was this showed that they had different mindsets
this being because of the difference in

The Characteristics And Features Of Mutual Funds
1.1 General Introduction
The term investment refers to the commitment of funds made with an expectation of some positive
returns. Two essentials aspects of investment are that firstly it involves waiting for returns, and
secondly it involves an element of risk of not getting what is expected of the investment. Basically
investment means purchase of financial asset that yield a return, which is proportionate to risk
assumed over some future period of time.
In finance, investment means buying securities or other monetary or paper (financial) assets in the
money markets or capital markets, or other in fairly liquid real assets, such as good as an investment,
real estate or collectibles with a view to earn some gain over a period of time.
1.2 Features of Investment
All the investment have the following features:

Professional Management
Mutual Funds provide the services of experienced and skilled professionals, backed by a dedicated
investment research team that analyses the performance and prospects of companies and selects
suitable investments to achieve the objectives of the scheme.
2. Diversification
Mutual Funds invest in a number of companies across a broad cross section of industries and sectors.
This diversification reduces the risk because seldom do all stocks decline at the same time and in the
same proportion. You achieve this diversification through a Mutual Fund with far less money than you
can do on your own.
3. Convenient Administration
Investing in a Mutual Fund reduces paperwork and helps you avoid many problems such as bad
deliveries, delayed payments and follow up with brokers and companies. Mutual Funds save your time
and make investing easy and convenient.
4. Return Potential
Over a medium to long term, Mutual Funds have the potential to provide a higher return as they invest
in a diversified basket of selected securities.

Altruism In Night By Eliezer Wiesel
In Night, altruism is what separates man from a beast of the concentration camp. Humans as a species
differ from the majority of the animal kingdom in their willingness to sacrifice their own well being
for the benefit of others. To be human is to be compassionate and caring for your fellow man. In
Night, Eliezer Wiesel shows that humanity can be usurped. Subjected to the inhuman conditions of the
Nazi concentration camps, Eliezer s sense of altruism and compassion essentially disappear, leaving
only animalistic self interest and the instinct to survive.
Not yet exposed to the horrors of a concentration camp, Eliezer enters Birkenau with his innate
compassion and altruism intact. Soon after his arrival, he witnesses the burning of ... Show more

In his fleeting thoughts of abandoning his father to deal with the beating alone, Eliezer is beginning to
betray the bonds of family; he is losing the original compassion and willingness to sacrifice his own
well being to help others that he entered the camp with. Although a suggestion of worry and
compassion remains in Eliezer s tone, these senses are inadequate for Eliezer to forgo his own safety
and well being. In this, Eliezer has become selfish. He has begun to lose his altruism. However, even
in the face of the ever present self interest seen in other prisoners of the camp, Eliezer fails to lose this
important side of himself completely.
Nonetheless, Eliezer does not completely lose his sense of altruism, especially concerning his father.
In the time before Eliezer s father s death, Eliezer attempts to prolong his father s life at the cost of his
own chances of survival. In willingly surrendering his own rations for his father s welfare, Eliezer
indicates that altruism is still present in him. However, others around Eliezer do not believe in this
concept of altruism; instead, they think Eliezer should not believe in the obligation to help his father
simply because of familial bonds, Eliezer should focus on his own survival (Wiesel 111). Regardless
of this pressure, Eliezer continues to sacrifice his own well being by offering his rations. Why? For
Eliezer, his father is a projection of his old faith in

I found the film of the lecture given by Naomi Wolf to be exceptionally interesting and thought
provoking. The beginning of her discussion surrounding the topic of beauty and the reason women are
seemingly so obsessed with it was presented in a way that I have never considered myself. The idea
that the media and culture surrounding women is one of a purposeful preoccupation with beauty and
the conceived notions of what that means is very striking. To continue the discussion about her idea
surrounding women and girls and their preoccupation with beauty standards it is easy to segue the
conversation into the dangers of this preoccupation. The numerous repercussions of this preoccupation
with unrealistic beauty standards is manifested in both physical and mental effects. One of the effects
that was discussed to a large extent is eating disorders, which affects both the physical and mental
aspects of a woman s (or man s) well being. The effects of eating disorders, in particular anorexia
which is categorized by restrictive and obsessive eating behaviors, can be catastrophic. As Naomi
Wolf discussed in a person story about her own eating disorder ... Show more content on

It was obvious to me just watching the film and the shots of the crowd, especially at moments of
interaction, that these unrealistic standards of beauty to one extent or another have an effect on women
from all walks of life. Speaking in the realm of the United States alone it is possible to say that any
woman is who is continuously exposed to mass media, especially from an early age, will be in one
way or another affected by this beauty myth . To what extent the effect is I believe does vary between
ethnicities. This ideal beauty is often portrayed as overwhelmingly blonde and caucasian so I could
see how this would cause even more of a negative impact among women of color than on white

Refugee Simulation
Being a part of OXFAM s refugee simulation in April was thought provoking for me because being a
refugee for many people in different parts of the world is an actual reality. In places such as Syria,
Jordan, Lebanon, and others, millions of people are forced to flee from their homes with many
obstacles on the way, such as leaving family behind and not having sufficient resources like food and
clothes. At the start of the simulation, I was informed that I was a refugee and I was paired up with
other students who would be my family members. Throughout the process, we were given a list of
supplies and had to choose a few that we wanted to receive. We would slowly get our supplies taken

Comparing Ulysses And The Siren
Mumford and Sons The Cave and John William Waterhouse s painting Ulysses and the Sirens both
show temptation through their powerful ideas. (Simple Sentence). They both give off a whole concept
that makes the audience come back for more and analyze what is really happening. During The Cave ,
Mumford and Son s include The harvest left no food for you to eat/ You cannibal, you meat eater, you
see/ But I have see the same/ I know the shame in your defeat (Mumford 5 8). The mood in these lines

The audience must realize that the concept of the song is to fight the urge of seduction. The Siren s
voices are seductive to the all the men who will listen. Furthermore, temptation is a struggling event
that kills people s inner beliefs. This adds to the singer starting to believe that he is not strong enough.
However, he knows that he will keep fighting. With the same concept, John William Waterhouse s
painting Ulysses and the Sirens gives off the idea to use a contrast with darker and lighter colors.
Ulysses and the Sirens shows Odysseus and his crew surrounded by seven Sirens. When looking at
this picture, the viewer might feel a sudden flash of chills because of how dark the scene is. It forces
the viewer to take a closer look at the scene and see what is really happening with Odysseus and his
men. Waterhouse s painting also shows a dark scene with light peeking through the two cliffs
(Waterhouse). No hope is given off with this scene. The concept is that temptation will beat the men
and it will force them to give up. The men are believed to have no hope until they reach the end of the

Why I Am At Night
One evening earlier this year, I needed to print a few pages for an assignment, but my computer
printer was malfunctioning in my dorm room. I couldn t believe this was happening to me. I just had a
long stressful day and now this. My roommate noticed that I was frustrated and was fussing with the
printer. He asked me what s wrong and I explained the situation. He suggested that I went upstairs to
use the printers on the 9th floor computer lab in South Quad. I have never been up there before so I
decided to go give it a try. It happened to be 11pm at night and I thought there was going to be no one
up there this late, but I was wrong. Surprisingly, there were actually a lot of people in there for being
late at night. What could they be possibly doing at this time of night? Most of the students were doing
some sort of homework, whether it was engineering coding or writing a paper. The remaining students
were streaming some sort of show on an online television provider, most likely watching Netflix. I
thought to myself, are there always people up here? Why wouldn t they be doing this work on a
private computer, such as a laptop, where no one can see what I m doing? I grabbed my papers that I
had printed then precede back down to my dorm room.
The following morning after my 10am lecture in Angel Hall, I noticed that the larger cyber station
called the Fishbowl was filled with students on the computers. Almost all of the computer stations

How Can Conflict In The Workplace Affect The Quality Of Care

How can conflict in the workplace affect the quality of care for the clients? Describe examples and
techniques you have seen.
Let s face it: health care settings are naturally stressful environments. Workplace stress can increase
personal conflicts between coworkers and when the conflict escalates, no one wins. Some classic
causes for conflict are staffing shortages which lead to heavier workloads or longer shifts, unmet
expectations, cultural diversity, inconsistency in knowledge and power.
Conflicts may exist between physicians, between physicians and administrators, between physicians
and staff, between staff and management, or even the patient or patient s family. Conflict may range

The Use Of Engines Powered By Gasoline
Plan of Investigation
At the turn of the 20th Century, the advent of a number of new technologies posed to change the
economy and society of the United States. One such technology was the internal combustion engine,
which, after the last 100 years of common use, can be considered one of the most influential
technologies of the 20th century. The rapid rise in the use of engines powered by gasoline is
commonly attributed to the popularity of the Model T car introduced by Henry Ford in 1908. Prior to
this, the combustion engine faced serious competition from steam and electric engines. In order to
ascertain why the Model T was so successful compared to other vehicles of the time, I plan to analyze
aspects of American society in the early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In comparison, while the earliest design of combustion engines can be dated back to 1680, no practical
designs were actually built by 1858. In his autobiography, Henry Ford himself makes accounts of the
hesitance with which the advent of combustion engines were met, in favor of steam and electric
engines. On the subject of the emergence of gas engines, he recalls that They were received with
interest rather than enthusiasm and I do not recall any one who thought that the internal combustion
engine could ever have more than a limited use. All the wise people demonstrated conclusively that
the engine could not compete with steam. The time period during which the Model T s rise to
popularity took place must also be considered. From 1890 to 1920, a period of American progression
aptly named the Progressive Era took place. Beginning as a social movement and developing into a
political agenda, Progressivism refuted Social Darwinism and asserted that society s problems, namely
such issues as poverty, racism, and class warfare, could be solved by improving education,
environments, and workplaces. In general, progressives believed that all people had the right to the
core aspects of democracy that promoted independence. Evidence suggests that the availability of an

Persuasive Essay On Decriminalizing All Drugs
We all have an interest in making sure teens grow up healthy and drug free. John Walters Would you
like to live in a safer, drug free community? I do and here is how to start: by decriminalizing all drugs!
Since Richard Nixon coined the phrase War on Drugs in 1971, America has failed miserably to reduce
the consumption and traffic of illicit drugs from outside our borders. Although a heavy portion are
against decriminalizing drugs because of short term consequences and health concerns in public
communities, Portugal s evident sixteen year experience with drug decriminalization has proven
otherwise with significant, long term positive outcomes. However, due to the long lasting and
persuasive positive outcomes of decriminalization, it is vital that the U.S. strongly reconsiders the
prohibition of all drugs for the health and economic benefit of our communities. Obviously, there will
be short term consequences but also benefits too. Unfortunately, the hype of decriminalizing drugs
will cause an increase in the number of users but it is important to note that a considerable amount of
those being newly documented are closet junkies finally being revealed. As Dr. Caitlin Hughes, a
member of the Drug Policy Modelling Program of the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre
puts it, Portuguese decriminalization did not lead to major increases in drug use. Indeed, evidence
indicates reductions in problematic use, drug related harms and criminal justice overcrowding
(Hughes; Stevens). As this research shows, the predictions on Portugal s well being after the
decriminalization of all drugs were incorrect and the complete opposite occurred creating healthy and
safer communities because of awareness. Bringing our attention back to the increasing number of
users within the hype years, public safety is a large concern where communities will have a difficult
time adapting to the new policy and becoming accustomed to a new culture and lifestyle. On the
contrary, I find a few years of craziness to be minimal in comparison to the long term achievement
that this law intends to achieve. Portugal has proved that decriminalization reduces drug use, drug
related harms, and criminal justice overcrowding. João Goulão,

A Study On Korean University Curriculum
According to the above research about Korean university curriculum, most of courses aim to educate
BIM, which means they are fully related to BIM. On the other hands, a few of them are digital graphic
representation course, which educate BIM modelling in order to improve architectural presentation
skill.
Additionally, engineering program curriculum of the 10 universities, mentioned previously, are also
researched in order to find out whether their engineering programs have any cooperation courses for
BIM education. In engineering program, BIM is able to apply on administration of construction
process, integrated design delivery project, construction management, structural analysis, and costing
construction, and it has many other related subjects which is able to applied indirectly. However, only
2 universities have BIM course, and 1 university is planning to apply into the engineering program
curriculum among the previously mentioned 10 university. According to the Universities engineering
program curriculum, their major goal of the courses is that students have effective architectural digital
design skill and flexibly responding technique to the design changes during the project. Moreover,
during the courses, student can understand how data or information of architectural design is shared
with construction by computer science and digital technology in design and construction phase.
Therefore, according to the researches in terms of BIM course in architecture and

The Eruption of Mount Pinatubo
The Eruption of Mount Pinatubo
On the 15th June of 1991, the second largest volcanic eruption of the twentieth century took place on
the island of Luzon in the Philippines, 90 km northwest of the capital city Manila. It was also, by far,
the largest eruption to affect a densely populated area. Mount Pinatubo, a stratovolcano, is part of a
chain of volcanoes along the Luzon arc on the west coast (refer map). The arc of volcanoes is due to
the subduction of the Manila trench to the west. The mountain has a very huge eruptive history. It was
known to be thermally active and had been explored as possible geothermal energy resource by the
Philippine National Oil Company. Mount Pinatubo is among the highest peaks in west central Luzon.

And a level 5 alert triggered evacuation of the 20–40 km zone on the 14th of June. For the people
who weren t willing to leave the area, a video showing the extreme hazards of the eruption was played
to convince them of the dangers of the eruption. Also, on the 10th of June, the military finally issued
evacuation orders and the 18,000 Clark Air Base personnel along with their families were transported
to Subic Bay Naval Station (most were returned to the US). In total, the authorities were able to
evacuate 200,000 people.
From June 7 to 12, SO2 gas emissions, which had increased tenfold from May 13 to May 28, suddenly
decreased. The US government wanted definite answers so the USGS geologists went to the site to
look for evidence. They monitored the SO2 emissions for two weeks and the results indicated that
either the volcano had postponed its attack or that the chamber was blocked and the magma was
pressurizing within the volcano.
The Eruption
On the 12th of June (Philippine Independence Day), millions of cubic yards of gas charged magma
reached the surface and resulted in the first major eruption which was then followed by a series of
eruptions. It produced a 19 km long ash column and pyroclastic flows that extended up to four km
from the summit to the river valleys. Later, a 15 minute eruption hurled ash straight up to the sky,
reaching the heights of 24 km. The super heated air and the friction between

The Failure Of Power In Animal Farm, By George Orwell
Imagine a world where the people holding power always did what was good for everyone. As history
has taught us, this doesn t always happen. Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is a complex story about
the dangers of too much government power, and the ones in power are definitely not doing things for
the good of others. When the pigs take control of the farm, they become greedy, dishonest, and
deceitful. Orwell lived in Europe during the time of the Russian Revolution, when there were
countless dictatorships around the world. He wrote this story to symbolize (and mock) the Russian
Revolution; which includes Karl Marx, Leon Trotsky, Joseph Stalin, and Vyacheslav Molotov. Orwell
uses this story, where the oppressed become the oppressors, to warn the world about the power of the
government. He also warns the reader not to let the corrupt control and not stand by and let it happen.
He shows that the abuse of absolute power can lead to corruption, violence, and finally, chaos.
The first warning Orwell introduces to the reader is that standing by passively while a would be tyrant
rises to power will end up in a birth of a dictatorship and a loss of personal freedom. At the beginning,
the animals attempt to establish a democracy where everyone can vote and have a say, but when the
animals vote for Snowball as their leader, Napoleon becomes jealous and runs Snowball off the farm
with his vicious dogs, which symbolizes the military that a dictator uses. All of this represents how

A Risk Assessment Strategy For A Chemical Suicide

Japan. Since then, the use of this gas in chemical or detergent suicides increased exponentially, over
2,000 such suicides have been reported in Japan. This trend was next encountered by first responders

The new trend was shared via internet message boards. Dependant of the mixture of common

This incident has had great significance to this day because it highlights the inhumane working
conditions. The Triangle Fire tragically illustrated that fire inspections and precautions were woefully
inadequate at the time. Outraged cries calling for action to improve the unsafe conditions in
workshops could be heard from every quarter, from the mainstream conservative to the progressive
and union press. The role that strong unions could have in helping prevent such tragedies became
clear. Workers organized in powerful unions would be more conscious of their rights and better able to

declared in interviews that their building was fireproof, and that it had just been approved by the

Using Homemade Solar Cookers And Solar Energy
Using Homemade Solar Cookers and Solar Energy to Pasteurize Non Potable Water by Killing
Harmful Bacteria, Parasites, and Diseases
Maia J. Graudick
Brown School
Abstract
In less developed countries, there is a lack of availability in potable water for safe consumption. Using
a device known as a solar cooker may allow for cheap and easy access to water without worry of
contracting diseases. Solar cookers utilize solar energy by focusing the sun s rays into water, heating
the water to a temperature hot enough to kill harmful pathogens. A homemade solar cooker was filled
100ml of non potable water and set out in the sun for 50 minutes. The experiment resulted in a success
with 95.9% of all organisms in the water being killed, effectively pasteurizing the water for safe
drinking. The experiment provided evidence to support that solar cookers are reliable option for
pasteurizing non potable water in less developed countries.
Using Homemade Solar Cookers and Solar Energy to Pasteurize Non Potable Water by Killing
Harmful Bacteria, Parasites, and Diseases Water is highly important in sustaining human life.
Untreated water however, can have very harmful effects on the body. Water that is not of drinking
standards, or non potable water, can contain harmful and possibly fatal pathogens. The consumption of
this water by humans is extremely dangerous. In less developed countries (LDCs) effective methods
of pasteurizing non potable water are not always readily

  • 2. Tom Ripley Symbolism Tom Ripley isn t entirely sure of who he is, taking on the identity of multiple characters to hide behind a mask of insecurity. We meet him in the beginning of Patricia Highsmith s, The Talented Mr. Ripley taking on someone else s job as well as pretending to be a well educated well mannered Princeton graduate. Tom Ripley has gotten away with all his frauds, impersonations, and forgeries until his past comes back to haunt him. His imagination runs wild as he imagines the horrible deeds he has done manifesting into panic attacks and compulsions. Despite Tom Ripley being an unlikeable character, he seems to capture the reader s attention by the end of the story. Following Tom through his insecurities and thoughts, the reader soon realizes that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He shows his clear dislike towards Tom sticking around forever as they travel to San Remo. Toms desires to become Dickie are evident after this scene as Tom stared at Dickie s closed eyelids. A crazy emotion of hate, of affection, of impatience and frustration, was swelling in him, hampering his breathing. He wanted to kill Dickie (Highsmith 95). Toms desire to be accepted clouds his reasoning as he devises a sinister plan to kill and take over Dickie s life. Through his thoughts, we find that he cannot differentiate between right and wrong. Morality never plays a part in his decisions, as he s given a choice; let Dickie live or take his identity. Because of Toms envy of Dickie s life, he demands his life, most people would just be envious, but not Ripley. He has other plans. Tom has no ability in making conscientious decisions. When he is faced with people he dislikes, he thinks that the only reasonable way to deal with them is murder. As his role as Dickie Greenleaf slowly comes to an end, after too many problems follow him he reflects on going ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Reflection Of A Symphony Orchestra On November 29, 2017, during a Wednesday night, I attended a Symphony Orchestra. The performance was played by the University of Houston Symphony Orchestra in Moores Opera House at the Moores School of Music. The performance was conducted by two different conductors. The first conductor was Carlos Guillermo Jung, he conducted the first piece which was a piece by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky called Fantasy which is a Romeo and Juliet Overture. The next conductor was Franz Anton Krager, he conducted the Cello Concerto No. 1 in A Minor, Op. 33, by Camille Saint Saens which also included Vagram Saradjian, who was a guest cellist performer. The next piece conducted by Fran Anton Krager was the Symphony No.5 in C minor, Op. 67 by Ludwig van Beethoven. The performance overall was over two hours, but was very entertaining and captured my attention the whole time. The first piece that was conducted by Jung called Romeo and Juliet Overture Fantasy, which is an orchestral work composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Tchaikovsky was one of the top composers during the Romantic era who was inspired by the work of Shakespeare. The overture outlines the plot of Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet. The genre of the piece is overture, the form is sonata, and the meter is duple or to some people, it may seem like the meter is quadruple. Throughout the performance, some themes were mostly led by the woodwind section, more specifically the clarinets and bassoons, and another theme was led by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Science Technology Essay Science Technology company case After reviewing the financial forecast from Science Technology Company and Semiconductor industry market situation, I concluded that 30% annual growth is not feasible, optimistic growth forecast is 15% .Because world semiconductor shipment kept growing, but not just semiconductor market but electronic products market was also dominated large market by Japanese manufacturers. If the company carried on with the same profit/cost structure, the company s ROA would be 5% more or less in next 5 years, EPS would be 0.44 0.97 and stock price would goes down to less $10 less $20. I can assume that there is no additional stock issuance. As of 1984, the ROA is 5.6%, EPS 0.57 and stock price $13 $37. 1. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Usepa Case Study General Comments 1. While mentioned several times in the technical memorandum, the following represent important aspects that need to be considered for any and all alternatives: Further sediment delineation of the sediment management areas (SMAs): A single sample location has been used to delineate the entire 0.9 acre SMA. Further delineation is in order for SMAs. For any alternative including dredging confirmation sampling of the floor and sides of excavation should be performed to assure that adequate material has been removed. (see specific comments) The key question for any confirmation sampling is what criterion is chosen to decide that additional removal is, or is not, necessary. In the sixth paragraph the text states Cancer risks predicted for total PCBs and TEQs under USEPA RME assumptions fall within the 10 6 to 10 4 range (i.e., 9 x 10 5 and 1 x 10 4, respectively). This cancer risk evaluation is inconsistent with United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) guidance (USEPA. 1996. PCBs: Cancer Dose Response Assessment and Application to Environmental Mixtures. EPA/600/P 96/001F. September) which specifies that high risk total PCB cancer risk must be added to the PCB congener 2,3,7,8 tetrachlorodibenzo p dioxin toxic equivalency cancer risk. Consequently the total cancer risk is 0.9 x 10 4 + 1 x 10 4 or 2 x 10 4, which exceeds the USEPA acceptable risk range. In addition, the second remedial action objective (RAO) on page 4 regarding cancer risks must be addressed because total cancer risks exceed the acceptable USEPA risk range. • 7. Auction Theory, The Challenges Of Auction While auctions are appealing in theory, the challenges of auction design in practice are insurmountable? Auction theory is ubiquitous within modern research areas in economics. With increasing popularity, auctions have been upheld as an accomplishment of economic practices. The significance of auctions has internationally been recognised as a means to sell of goods in a non established market. The auction theory is compelling for two distinct reasons. First, numerous commodities are traded at auctions. Consequently, it is vital to recognise the functionality of auctions, and which auctions perform greatest through observing the generation of revenue or efficient allocation. Secondly, the concept of auctions is an essential theory within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is where bidders submit simultaneous sealed bids to the venders; the highest bidder receives the item and pays the worth of the second highest bid. (Easley and Kleinberg, 2016) The English Auction Milgrom and Weber [13] have shown that the English auction dominates all other auction formats in terms of seller s expected profit, when the comparison is restricted to symmetric equilibria. Myerson [14] and Riley and Samuelson [15] explain that if the buyers are risk neutral and have independently and identically distributed private values, then, for the majority of probability distributions, the seller s expected profit is maximized making it the optimal bidding strategy. The item is awarded to the buyers with the highest value, and any buyer whose value is lower than an optimally set threshold receives zero expected surplus. These two conditions, however, are satisfied by a large array of trading mechanisms, including each of the standard auctions all with the same seller s reserve price. In practice, one major problem that occurs with the Standard English Auction is the present of inadequate reserve prices. Many of the adversities in the English auction were due to auctioneer s failure to produce a realistic reserve price (the minimum price below which no bids are accepted). For example, the devastating revenue involvement of the New Zealand s spectrum auction was caused by the government s failure to set suitable reserve prices in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was known as being very ambitious and having exceptional leadership abilities as well as navigational skills (Yost). All these skills were very useful and beneficial in terms of helping him achieve his goal of crossing the ocean with a small army in order to obtain the riches and wealth of the Incas. In my opinion Francisco Pizarro was one of the great people who determined and altered the course of history. The story of his life greatly supports my claim. During their trip they discovered what we now know as the Pacific ocean, but Balboa spotted it first which is why he is credited for its discovery (New World Encyclopedia). Pizarro had heard of Hernan Cortes, who conquered the Aztec people and acquired a vast amount of wealth and power. Pizarro wanted to do something just like that, so he set his sites on the Inca Empire in Peru, South America. He had learned of the Incas through a rumor from the South American native peoples, they told him of a vast empire full of precious metals (Yost). Pizarro now begins to do what he did to change the course of history. In 1524 he took his first expedition to South America to explore the land and people who lived there. It ended up being very unsuccessful because of the many problems they had to deal with, such as bad weather, lack of food, and conflict with the native people (New World Encyclopedia). In 1526 Pizarro set up for a second expedition, which ended up being much more successful than the first. They were able to go much more inland and saw the Incas and the riches that they possessed, which supported what Pizarro heard before (New World Encyclopedia). Here is where things really begin to change. Pizarro didn t want to take anymore chances, so for a third expedition he did everything in his power to make sure it would go right. To try and deal with his emotions, he started to write. He really started to write how he was feeling. In spite of this, the tragedy, his fathers accusation, and his own guilt had one positive outcome: it s what made his creativity in his songs (Neimark 36). His early life growing up through the Great Depression and all the hardships he faced, were really expressed in the songs that he wrote and performed for people. This really let people have an inside look on what life was like for people back then. Luke Bryan was born and raised in Leesburg, Georgia on July 17, 1976 ( Luke Bryan Biography ). • 13. Similarities Between John Berendt s Midnight In The Garden... The south is known for their sweet accents, their mansion style houses, and their low country soul food. In addition, the south is known to preserve their history and to keep secrets to themselves. This book showed how the south had a rude awaking in store for them once a murder prevailed. This murder, however, was not shared throughout the southern states. In the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, by John Berendt, the author is the speaker while also providing credibility in his work, the occasion being displayed throughout the book influenced the writer in a variety of ways, and the purpose of the novel was to inform the people of the true southern way of living. Throughout the book, Williams was questioned and was put on trial multiple times. However, the murder was one of Savannah s secrets that was not shared with tourist. For example, during a tour of Savannah, they walked past the Mercer House and the guide shared the history of the house but said nothing about Jim Williams or Danny Hansford or the sensational murder case that captivated the city (384). As a result, Berendt had a topic for his book fall right into his hands. He wanted to share this life changing event for the south with others while also preserving Savannah s history. Berendt understood that Savannah was a self imposed estrangement from the outside world (384), however, he was not letting this story be forgotten. • 14. Blood Brothers Drama Analysis For the GCSE unit two exam we studied the play Blood Brothers by Willy Russell we used drama techniques to analyse the different Features of the play. Also, we went into detail with the context behind the meaning of the play. We used the script as a stimulus to generate a story with the text from the play. For example, we used a specific part in the play where the narrator stated How quickly an idea planted can take root and grow into a plan. The thought conceived in this very room grew as surely as a seed in the mother s womb . This was used to create a piece of drama which had to include some text from the stimulus here we used the scene where Mrs Johnston tells Mrs Lyons that she is pregnant with twins. This was seen on page 36 where Mickey used foul language. This was effective for the audience as it showed the way that children exaggerate to every little thing and their playful attitude. In Pietro s group, they used an essence machine to show that everything is just a game. This acts in contrast to the themes of the play Fate, bad luck and destiny. This is because the play has a serious ending to it as the twins die. Also, Mrs Lyons and Mrs Johnston played around with the destiny of the boys by taking on the role of God and deciding who gets to look after which twin. Facial expressions were used for example this was seen when Tyres was playing Mrs Lyons and Amirah was playing Mrs Johnston Amirah told Tyres that she was pregnant with twins. He grinned and looked up at the sky this was used to show the audience that he was evil and sinister. This related back to the theme of Nature vs. nurture this is because the twins were both raised is two different environments. This was used to show how manipulative Mrs Lyons was. Also, as he was talking to Mrs Lyons rolled her eyes to show how confused she was this showed that they had different mindsets this being because of the difference in ... Two essentials aspects of investment are that firstly it involves waiting for returns, and secondly it involves an element of risk of not getting what is expected of the investment. Basically investment means purchase of financial asset that yield a return, which is proportionate to risk assumed over some future period of time. In finance, investment means buying securities or other monetary or paper (financial) assets in the money markets or capital markets, or other in fairly liquid real assets, such as good as an investment, real estate or collectibles with a view to earn some gain over a period of time. 1.2 Features of Investment All the investment have the following features: Return Risk Safety Liquidity ... • 16. Altruism In Night By Eliezer Wiesel In Night, altruism is what separates man from a beast of the concentration camp. Humans as a species differ from the majority of the animal kingdom in their willingness to sacrifice their own well being for the benefit of others. To be human is to be compassionate and caring for your fellow man. In Night, Eliezer Wiesel shows that humanity can be usurped. Subjected to the inhuman conditions of the Nazi concentration camps, Eliezer s sense of altruism and compassion essentially disappear, leaving only animalistic self interest and the instinct to survive. Not yet exposed to the horrors of a concentration camp, Eliezer enters Birkenau with his innate compassion and altruism intact. Soon after his arrival, he witnesses the burning of ... In his fleeting thoughts of abandoning his father to deal with the beating alone, Eliezer is beginning to betray the bonds of family; he is losing the original compassion and willingness to sacrifice his own well being to help others that he entered the camp with. Although a suggestion of worry and compassion remains in Eliezer s tone, these senses are inadequate for Eliezer to forgo his own safety and well being. In this, Eliezer has become selfish. He has begun to lose his altruism. However, even in the face of the ever present self interest seen in other prisoners of the camp, Eliezer fails to lose this important side of himself completely. Nonetheless, Eliezer does not completely lose his sense of altruism, especially concerning his father. In the time before Eliezer s father s death, Eliezer attempts to prolong his father s life at the cost of his own chances of survival. In willingly surrendering his own rations for his father s welfare, Eliezer indicates that altruism is still present in him. However, others around Eliezer do not believe in this concept of altruism; instead, they think Eliezer should not believe in the obligation to help his father simply because of familial bonds, Eliezer should focus on his own survival (Wiesel 111). Regardless of this pressure, Eliezer continues to sacrifice his own well being by offering his rations. Why? For Eliezer, his father is a projection of his old faith in ... The beginning of her discussion surrounding the topic of beauty and the reason women are seemingly so obsessed with it was presented in a way that I have never considered myself. The idea that the media and culture surrounding women is one of a purposeful preoccupation with beauty and the conceived notions of what that means is very striking. To continue the discussion about her idea surrounding women and girls and their preoccupation with beauty standards it is easy to segue the conversation into the dangers of this preoccupation. The numerous repercussions of this preoccupation with unrealistic beauty standards is manifested in both physical and mental effects. One of the effects that was discussed to a large extent is eating disorders, which affects both the physical and mental aspects of a woman s (or man s) well being. The effects of eating disorders, in particular anorexia which is categorized by restrictive and obsessive eating behaviors, can be catastrophic. One such technology was the internal combustion engine, which, after the last 100 years of common use, can be considered one of the most influential technologies of the 20th century. The rapid rise in the use of engines powered by gasoline is commonly attributed to the popularity of the Model T car introduced by Henry Ford in 1908. • 29. Persuasive Essay On Decriminalizing All Drugs We all have an interest in making sure teens grow up healthy and drug free. John Walters Would you like to live in a safer, drug free community? I do and here is how to start: by decriminalizing all drugs! Since Richard Nixon coined the phrase War on Drugs in 1971, America has failed miserably to reduce the consumption and traffic of illicit drugs from outside our borders. Although a heavy portion are against decriminalizing drugs because of short term consequences and health concerns in public communities, Portugal s evident sixteen year experience with drug decriminalization has proven otherwise with significant, long term positive outcomes. However, due to the long lasting and persuasive positive outcomes of decriminalization, it is vital that the U.S. strongly reconsiders the prohibition of all drugs for the health and economic benefit of our communities. Obviously, there will be short term consequences but also benefits too. Unfortunately, the hype of decriminalizing drugs will cause an increase in the number of users but it is important to note that a considerable amount of those being newly documented are closet junkies finally being revealed. As Dr. Caitlin Hughes, a member of the Drug Policy Modelling Program of the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre puts it, Portuguese decriminalization did not lead to major increases in drug use. Indeed, evidence indicates reductions in problematic use, drug related harms and criminal justice overcrowding (Hughes; Stevens). As this research shows, the predictions on Portugal s well being after the decriminalization of all drugs were incorrect and the complete opposite occurred creating healthy and safer communities because of awareness. Bringing our attention back to the increasing number of users within the hype years, public safety is a large concern where communities will have a difficult time adapting to the new policy and becoming accustomed to a new culture and lifestyle. On the contrary, I find a few years of craziness to be minimal in comparison to the long term achievement that this law intends to achieve. Portugal has proved that decriminalization reduces drug use, drug related harms, and criminal justice overcrowding. João Goulão, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. The Failure Of Power In Animal Farm, By George Orwell Imagine a world where the people holding power always did what was good for everyone. As history has taught us, this doesn t always happen. Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is a complex story about the dangers of too much government power, and the ones in power are definitely not doing things for the good of others. When the pigs take control of the farm, they become greedy, dishonest, and deceitful. Orwell lived in Europe during the time of the Russian Revolution, when there were countless dictatorships around the world. He wrote this story to symbolize (and mock) the Russian Revolution; which includes Karl Marx, Leon Trotsky, Joseph Stalin, and Vyacheslav Molotov. Orwell uses this story, where the oppressed become the oppressors, to warn the world about the power of the government. He also warns the reader not to let the corrupt control and not stand by and let it happen. He shows that the abuse of absolute power can lead to corruption, violence, and finally, chaos. The first warning Orwell introduces to the reader is that standing by passively while a would be tyrant rises to power will end up in a birth of a dictatorship and a loss of personal freedom. At the beginning, the animals attempt to establish a democracy where everyone can vote and have a say, but when the animals vote for Snowball as their leader, Napoleon becomes jealous and runs Snowball off the farm with his vicious dogs, which symbolizes the military that a dictator uses. This trend was next encountered by first responders in America, with 3 cases reported in 2008, 9 in 2009 and over 30 incidents in 2010 (Morii et al., 2010). The new trend was shared via internet message boards. Dependant of the mixture of common household ingredients such as bath salts and toilet detergent, either Hydrogen Sulfide or Hydrogen Cyanide gas will be produced. Suicide is often performed in a confined space in order to trap the resulting gas. Enclosed spaces such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will talk about his early childhood, golf career, and the scandal that became his downfall. INTRODUCTION Who in your opinion is the most dominant well known figure in professional sports? This is up for debate to many of us as we all have different likes or interests. But there is one individual who was destined for stardom and was in the spotlight at a very early age. When Tiger was a toddler, his dad would put him in his high chair while he would hit golf balls in the basement. He noticed Tiger watching every move he made. Soon enough, Tiger was mimicking his dad s golf swing and Earl Woods became amazed at what Tiger could do with a golf club by the age of 2. 2. Tiger became noticed by the world at the ripe old age of two yrs. old when he appeared on the Mike Douglas show. • 38. The Class Sequence Could Be Improved The class sequence could be improved. Some of the classes seemed, either out of sequence or the information provided would have been better understood if presented first in another class. I believe Ofc. Marlin tried to sequence these better but had difficulty with coordinating the schedules of the instructors. When possible, give the training a higher priority and schedule early enough to minimize last minute changes. This would benefit the training, the students, and Ofc. Marlin. Toward the end of the academy, it seemed Ofc. Marlin was struggling to complete all class requirements before graduation. The Personal Safety and Defense, as with some of the other topics, was apportioned throughout the training. This was good and allowed for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am greatly appreciative of both sections this practical training. It was good to have the General Order, Special Order, and other regulatory organization presented early. The general concept of state laws, arrests, and violations was early but it would have been helpful to have had the legal class around the same time. When presented, the legal class was very lawyerly ; meaning somewhat dry and rote. A little more discussion might have been helpful. Public Speaking was a good class. It adequately presented the necessary information and allowed us an opportunity to practice in class. Detective Shirley and Office Yates did a good team job in the presentation. Interpersonal Communication was also a good class. Ofc. Jones did a good job on the presentation. I m not sure why he presented this information twice. Verbal Judo was a very important class and Detective Richardson presented it well. This information was also adequately covered in the test/evaluations. As in Personal Safety and Defense, several sessions covered report writing. This is good because it allowed for some of the lessons to sink in before adding more information. Sgt Patrick presented the topic very well. The computer skills training were very minimal. I suggest a significant bit of more time be included to cover some of the other programs we will encounter. KYOPS and collision investigation and reporting was generally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What progressed after it? On Saturday, March 25, 1911. At 4:25, which was 5 minutes before closing time at the Triangle Shirt Factory. The Triangle factory, owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, was located on the top three floors of the Asch Building, floors 8, 9, and 10. Some cutters were smoking, even though it was prohibited. Though it is not certain, people believe that a cutter flicked a cigarette butt or hot ash, into one of the waste bins with flammable cloth in them. Many of the garment workers before the year of 1911 were unorganized, mostly because they were young immigrant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This incident has had great significance to this day because it highlights the inhumane working conditions. The Triangle Fire tragically illustrated that fire inspections and precautions were woefully inadequate at the time. Outraged cries calling for action to improve the unsafe conditions in workshops could be heard from every quarter, from the mainstream conservative to the progressive and union press. The role that strong unions could have in helping prevent such tragedies became clear. Workers organized in powerful unions would be more conscious of their rights and better able to obtain safe working conditions. Immediately after the fire, Triangle owners Blanck and Harris declared in interviews that their building was fireproof, and that it had just been approved by the Department of Buildings, but the building lacked the third required staircase. On December 27, twenty three days after the trial had started, a jury acquitted Blanck and Harris of any wrongdoing. Brought to court, he was fined twenty dollars, and the judge apologized to him for the imposition. Twenty three individual civil suits were brought against the owners of the Asch ... • 40. Using Homemade Solar Cookers And Solar Energy Using Homemade Solar Cookers and Solar Energy to Pasteurize Non Potable Water by Killing Harmful Bacteria, Parasites, and Diseases Maia J. Graudick Brown School Abstract In less developed countries, there is a lack of availability in potable water for safe consumption. Using a device known as a solar cooker may allow for cheap and easy access to water without worry of contracting diseases. Solar cookers utilize solar energy by focusing the sun s rays into water, heating the water to a temperature hot enough to kill harmful pathogens. A homemade solar cooker was filled 100ml of non potable water and set out in the sun for 50 minutes. The experiment resulted in a success with 95.9% of all organisms in the water being killed, effectively pasteurizing the water for safe drinking. The experiment provided evidence to support that solar cookers are reliable option for pasteurizing non potable water in less developed countries. Using Homemade Solar Cookers and Solar Energy to Pasteurize Non Potable Water by Killing Harmful Bacteria, Parasites, and Diseases Water is highly important in sustaining human life. Untreated water however, can have very harmful effects on the body. Water that is not of drinking standards, or non potable water, can contain harmful and possibly fatal pathogens. The consumption of this water by humans is extremely dangerous. In less developed countries (LDCs) effective methods of pasteurizing non potable water are not always readily ...
