In an age where more and more people are using social media for both personal and professional
reasons, there is an increasing amount of government censorship, as well as self censorship, evident
on widely used social media platforms. After conducting research on this topic, I have discovered the
very fine line between using social networking sites for personal uses versus professional uses.
According to scholars, while only 47% of nonacademics use social media for professional purposes,
about 91% of university faculty members use social networking sites in class or for other professional
reasons (Moran, Seaman, Tinti Kane, 2011). Professionals, particularly academic professionals, have
to keep a squeaky clean presence on social media. In this paper, I will discuss my research regarding
self censorship on social media, government intervention and censorship and what that means for the

Ed Gein Spenser Wiles Born: August 27, 1906 Death: July 26, 1984 Edward Theodore Gein was born
in La Crosse County, Wisconsin in 1906. The second son of George Philip and Augusta Wilhelmine
Gein. Augusta despised her husband, an alcoholic who was unable to keep a job. He worked various
times as a carpenter and an insurance salesman. Augusta owned a local grocery shop and later sold it
