Flowers For Algernon Essay
Flowers for Algernon Daniel Keyes was born on August 9, 1972. He grew up in New York and
attended New York University briefly before joining the United States Maritime Service at 17,
working as a ship s purser on oil tankers. Many of his works were published in the New York
newspapers. The inspiration for Flowers for Algernon struck while he was waiting for a train in 1945.
His book was created on the single thought, What would happen if it were possible to increase a
person s intelligence? Fifteen years later, the thought grew into a novella which was published in the
Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction in 1959. It also won the Hugo Award for best short story in
1960. In 1966, Keyes expanded it into a novel which tied for the Nebula ... Show more content on

But that doesn t stop him. HE has incredible motivation. Three times a week, he goes to Beckman
collage center for retarded adults. His teacher Miss. Kinnian has complete faith in him to be able to do
an experiment that may make him smarter. At first Charlie becomes frustrated that the experiment
mouse, Algernon, can beat him at the maze games. But after his procedure, everything begins to
change. Although he becomes amazingly smart, he finds a slip in Professor Nemur s work showing
that his intelligence to be only temporary. Algernon soon loses his intelligence, but before Charlie
completely loses his, he makes a point to tell the reader to leave fresh flowers for Algernon. When
Charlie begins to feel only as another lab animal to Professor Nemur, he takes Algernon and they flee
to New York where Dr. Stratuss and Professor Nemur can t find them. While there, Charlie does some
of his own research showing that Nemur made a mistake. The intelligence that Charlie gained through
the operation will only be temporary, and he would lose it as quick as he gained it. Charlie calls this
the Algernon Gordon Effect. After losing his intelligence, he quickly forgets everything. He decides to
leave behind the people who feel sorry for him, and he checks himself into a home for disabled

Midsummer Night s Dream Contrast
A Midsummer nights Dream is known as one of Shakespeare s most popular and most performed
plays worldwide. Although there are many versions of the play, they tend to stay true to the original
characters, setting, and them. However in Michael Hoffman s 1999 film version of A Midsummer
Night s Dream, he breaks the traditional rules by first changing the setting. Hoffman sends the
comedic action from ancient Athens to an imaginary Italian village named Monte Athena during the
nineteenth century. In this portrayal of the play, Duke Theseus is nothing but a tired and seemingly
unimportant bureaucrat, rather than a victorious hero as shown in the play. On the same note,
Hippolyta, Theseus s bride to be, previously referred to as the Queen of the ... Show more content on

In particular this relates to Puck, who has been transformed from a mischievous fairy to a middle aged
lounge lizard. Puck is the closest thing to a protagonist in the play because he is responsible for many
of the complications that occur between the four lovers. Similarly, Titania loses much of her previous
complexity throughout the film. The play emphasizes the strong bonds of an ancient female friendship
that keep Titania from abandoning the Indian boy because she wants to care for a deceased friend s
son. Hermia and Helena s lives are also marked by strong friendships although Demetrius who is in
love with Hermia is also who Helena has fallen in love with. Hoffman does stay true to the ideal of
female friendship shown in the play, which is one of the reasons, why relationship between Hermia,
Helena, Hippoltya, and Titinia is understandable.
Although, Hoffman didn t change everything when he converted the play to a film, he did change
most of the major concepts. It is not certain why he changed much of the play, but one explanation
that fits is because he wanted to modernize it. A Midsummer Night s Dream was written in the 1590 s
and the film was produced in 1999. Hoffman most likely felt that change was necessary for modern
audiences to understand. However, the outcome of Hoffman s changes is that the comical

Special Maintenence to Control the Instability of Aging...
Construction of steel bridges in the 19th 20th century mostly depended on the use of rivets for
connection. Bridges got built at a much greater rate than any other steel or iron construction using
rivets. Riveting was a better proven and understood method of construction. They made a very strong
connection when applied but were very prone to corrosion through rusting. Existing historic steel
bridges are aging and experiencing increased levels of deterioration due to increased demand in
vehicle weight and traffic volume. These bridges are increasing becoming weaker as the rivets used in
their contact wear out leading to instability and unreliable due to the poor construction. Assessment of
old bridges for maintenance purposes occurs regularly. These bridges have to undergo regular
maintenance and reinforcements. This aids in strengthening them and ensuring that they offer
adequate and reliable service to the general public.
Thousand of bridges across the USA carry, support and connect public roads. State Department Of
Transportation (DOTs) and The Federal Highway Administration have in the recent past focused on
improving the conditions of the Nations bridges through bridge inspection programs, the enhancement
of the current asset management process and preservation strategies. According to the regulations
provided within the National Bridge Inspection standards set up in 2004 sets that all public highway
bridges in the USA located on public roads and are longer than

Living With My Single Mom
Living with my single mom might have played a huge role in the way I perceive men. Seeing my
mom focused on her job and me, I feel like a boyfriend isn t her priority. Making it to where I also
believe that I don t need a man to be happy. Then I visit my day twice a year, and I see him in a happy
marriage with his wife of 15 years. I feel this desire to be in a relationship as real and as loving as that
one but then I go back to my mom and realize that I don t need anyone. It s like a constant battle
between, wanting to be single and wanting to be with someone. I ve always viewed boys the same
way I view everyone else; humans. Not special, not gods, just people with a different anatomy that I m
supposed to obsess over. I was never one to feel the need to be in a relationship, and devote all my
time to a relationship that probably won t last outside of high school. I always felt the need to focus on
myself first. Plus, all the boys in school seem to be focused on one thing; sex. Call me a prude, but I
ve never felt the need to give up something so intimate with someone that I m not in love with. I don t
waste my time on fake feelings, just to impress and brag about the fact that I m with someone. I don t
need to depend on the comfort of a man like some women do. Now that I m in college, I definitely see
that some of the boys are growing up but not enough to actually think with their top head. I sort of
look at men the same way most see us, women. Call me shallow or

The Pros And Cons Of Hybrid Vehicles
Abstract
The Hybrid vehicle concept nowadays is on the path of becoming one of the brightest stars in the
foreseeable future. Environmental issues that beset the world today such as Global Warming, entail
many long term negative effects which in turn, must not only be solved through short term solutions
but also be countered with long term solutions that will benefit not just the future of society, but the
future of planet earth and the well being of its inhabitants. In response to this global crisis, various
industries and institutions are now searching for alternative energy sources such as the Hybrid vehicle.
The Hybrid vehicle seeks to reduce carbon emissions and reliance on petroleum and diesel by
substituting majority of the powertrain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Toyota introduced the first modern production hybrid vehicle, the Prius in Japan in 1997, and Toyota
and Honda introduced hybrids to the US in 1999 and 2000. Both manufacturers use the same hybrid
powertrain design, an input power split system.
Fuel economy
Hybrid systems can increase fuel economy and reduce CO2 emissions by 35%. The precise reduction
varies with the technology and capability of the system. The reduction can be hard to quantify as there
is no direct comparable non hybrid vehicle. A study done by Vincentric on October 2014 which
compared 31 hybrids to the closest non hybrids provides a direct comparison of the efficiency benefits
and cost of hybrid systems.
Basics of Hybrid vehicle technology
A traditional vehicle has a mechanical drive train which includes combustion engine, fuel tank,
gearbox, transmission and the wheels. A Hybrid vehicle has two drive trains a mechanical and an
electric. The electric drivetrain includes a battery and an electric motor. In principle these two
drivetrains should be connected together sharing some components such as transmission and

Using no more than 250 words, write a description of the object depicted in the two photographs.
This object is small at just 3.7 cm in length. There seems to be no information on circumference or
height measurements. The shape takes that of a hare, with what appears to be a somewhat oval base.
Three of the paws also take shape at the base of the object, with the forth paw raise in the front. The
head is of circular shape with a prominent nose and mouth cleverly carved out of a crisscross shape
which makes it look classically simple. The hare eyes have been inlaid with amber gem stones that
sparkle like fire which gives the appearance of possible life within the hare. The ears are pulled back.

(Cortazzi, 2010) Unbeknownst to the Ephrussi family a maid from their home in Austria named Anna
was able to hide the netsuke inside of a feather mattress within the house and preserve all of them until
the family was able to return. (cook, 2010) Following the end of the war Elisabeth Ephrussi (daughter
of Viktor and the late Emmy) would travel back to Austria to be reunited with the Netsuke. The
netsuke would remain in the possession of Elisabeth until inherited by another family member,
Elisabeth s son Ignace Leo Ephrussi whom lived in Japan at the time of inheritance. Ignace was
extremely fascinated by the netsuke studying the small object for pleasure. (Cortazzi, 2010) He shared
this interest with his nephew Edmund de Waal. Edmund would first see the netsuke in 1991 but would
later inherit all of them including the hare. This particular netsuke features in the title of De Waals
book The Hare with the Amber Eyes and tells a story of not only the Ephrussi family but the life of
this netsuke and the 263 that journeyed with it. This netsuke and the other 263 that were originally
purchased with it are still in the possession of Edmund de Waal today. (Waal, 2010) They are
displayed in a cabinet in Waal s home in London, where he still studies them.
Conclusion
Throughout the biography we have learned more on the journey of the amber eyed hare netsuke.

The purpose of this memo is to ask you for your continuing support for H.R.1217 Public Safety and
Second Amendment Rights Protection Act of 2015 (also known as the National Commission on Mass
Violence Act of 2015). H.R. 1217 design is to support the second amendment rights while providing a
responsible and consistent background checking process prior to purchasing of a firearm. It also
prohibits the sale of firearms to those listed in the National Instant Criminal Background Check
System (NICS). In 2010 there were 14 million who people submitted background checks to purchase
or transfer possession of a firearm resulting in 153,000 being blocked or prohibited from making a
firearm purchase. Only 40% of firearm transactions occur through a licensed dealer hence an
estimated 6.6 million firearm purchases occur through a private sale, a gun show, or the internet with
no questions asked. Based upon these findings, there is a need for consistent and universal background
checking for all firearm sales and transfers, thus aiding in reducing the number of firearms to persons
that are at risk to harm themselves or others (Weinberger et al., 2015). The time is now to act for

Previously, routers would implement FIFO method for storing SYN packets. Once new (bogus) SYN
packets enter the system, old (legitimate) packets are dropped off. Thus, the server memory gets
overwhelmed by storing illegitimate packets and cannot accept new (legitimate) SYN requests from
its intended users thereby, denying services to its intended users. Over the time, routers became
smarter. They use rate based filtering. After a certain limit of packets are accepted, routers don t
further accept packets. Also, routers don t implement FIFO methods anymore. They only accept and
store packets from computers that send an ACK as response to their SYN ACK and complete the 3
way handshake. Incoming packets from a computer system that do not complete a 3 way handshake
are dropped. 1.3 2 nd generation DoS attacks As the routers got smarter, attackers felt the need to
improve their techniques. The 2 generation DoS attack called Distributed Denial of Service attack is
much more sophisticated than the traditional DoS attack. The attacker uses one or more controller

computer systems that have been infected by an external entity like a hacker, trojan horse or a

Monotheistic Religions Research Paper
Muslims, Jews, and Christians... The Same?
Most people generally think that the three monotheistic religions are very different. However, these
are ordinary people, of different religions, and different thoughts. When you celebrate a specific
religion you usually don t want to acknowledge other religions because you feel as though you turn
your back on your god. That is incorrect. The three primary monotheistic religions are Judaism, Islam,
and Christianity. Of course they are different in endless ways, but they are also very identical. Judaism
was the first major religion to teach the existence of one god, which is known as monotheism. Judaism
is a tree with two strong branches, Christianity and Islam. Finally concluding that all three religions ...

They all have a place for worship, a religious book, a religious leader, and other similarities.
Synagogues, Churches, and Mosques are all the same concept except with different names. In the
three religions they have very similar features with different names. In this case we are talking about
religious leader. A religious leader is just a person passionate about a religion that runs the temple and
reads prayers. Some of these leaders are are called priests, rabbis, and imams.
Muslims, Jews, and Christians all believe in the same god. Although they all have different stories,
and call the god different names it s all the same because it originated from one religion, Judaism.
They also travel in groups for religious purposes. For example Muslims go to Mecca, Jews and
Christians travel to churches. The colossal migrations are called a hajj. They are very sacred, and
important. Although Muslims, Jews, and Christians are quite similar, they do not have everything in
common. For example the Islamic religion prays five times a day, travels all the way to Mecca, and
fast. This may seem a little extreme for Jews and Christians, because Jews pray only three times a day,
and Christians pray only a few times a day. No matter how many times they pray they are extremely

Essay about The Vietnam War s Effects on American Society
The Vietnam War s Effects on American Society
Abstract
The Vietnam War had a profound effect on American society.
It changed the way we viewed our government, the media, and our Constitutional rights. Because of
this shift in perspective, the country was torn apart and yet still came together in new and different
ways. The Vietnam War s contraversiality spurred a great many sources of protest, against our
government s use of power, how far we could stretch the rights of free expression, and primarily
against the violence of the war itself. These changes in the behavior of society have left a lasting mark
on our perception and the demand to be informed since that influencial period of social turmoil.

It was not just a war in Vietnam or in
America, but the war became a symbol (Gioglio, 20).
One of the most prevelant type of protests were based on the imparting of knowledge. These were
known as teach ins. The teach ins were really the first step in raising conciousness to the impact the
war could have(Fever, 11).
They were the first things to get people informed and involved. Starting with teach ins during the
spring of
1965, the massive antiwar efforts centered on the colleges, with the students playing leading roles.
These teach ins were mass public demonstrations, usually held in the spring and fall seasons. The
teach in movement was at first, a gentle approach to the antiwar activity (Gettleman, 54).
Teach ins were one important way to bring more people into the antiwar movement. During a teach in,
students, faculty
members, and guest speakers discussed issues concerning the
Vietnam war (McCormick, 37). The teach ins began at the
University of Michigan in March of 1965, and spread to other campuses, including Wisconsin in
April. These protests at some of America s most well known universities attracted the public eye. The
demonstrations were one form of attempting to go beyond mere words and research and reason, and to
put direct pressure on those who were conducting policy in apparent disdain for the will expressed by
the voters

A Note On Mondrian Architecture
MONDRAIN
Mondrain is a Relational Online Analytical Processing server. It is written in Java and used for
reporting and data warehousing. It supports Mulidimensional expression query language i.e, MDX,
OLAP4J for interface specification and XML for analysis. It is an open source OLAP server and more
useful for analysis that involves drilling down data. The Mondrian schema is supported by almost any
OLAP client tool.
Connecting to Mondrian Engine
Mondrian maintains data in MDX fashion. For us to access any existing cube, we need some reporting

Three kinds of data need to be stored: fact table data (the transactional records), aggregates, and
dimensions. The multidimensional format does not perform well when there are more than few
dimensions which will lead to sparse data. A HOLAP , a hybrid OLAP system solves this problem by
only storing the aggregates in multidimensional format.
Mondrian s primary API is proprietary. Mondrian provides API for client applications to executing
queries. It uses a language called MDX which is used for querying multidimentional databases.
Mondrian is used for:
1. It gives high performace and provided interactive analysis of large or small data.
2. It provides dimensional exploration of data
3. We can parse MDX into SQL to retrieve answers to dimensional queries.
4. High speed queries
5. Advanced calculations using calculation expression of MDX language

A Soldiers Sacrifice Analysis
A Soldier s Sacrifice
This image of the soldiers holding up the land uses the contrasting moods of the colors on top and
bottom, the symbolism, and the eye catchers to show how the soldiers are sacrificing themselves, and
the people are taking that sacrifice for granted.
The contrasting moods the two halfs of the picture are portrayed by the use of the cool calm colors up
top which portrayed the peaceful mood of the families beach visit and the dark red of the soldiers
blood from the bottom to show a somber mood of the war. The dark colors of the dead uniforms of the
soldiers give off a gloomy air while the light, brighter colors of the living, specifically the family on
top, gives off a sort of hope feeling. The bright blue sea from the top of the picture and the red sea of

Essay about Against Making Flag Burning Illegal
Flag Burning
There is a great travesty going on in America right now. Everyday, people are fighting to stop one of
America s greatest freedoms, the freedom of speech. Even this way of exercising America s greatest
amendment, freedom of speech, is not liked by all people it is still protected under our nation s law.
The act of publicly burning an American flag is something that is deemed disgraceful by many
Americans, but it should not be outlawed.
Many people are offended by the act of publicly burning an American flag and feel it should be

The flag is a symbol of the United States, and what happens to the flag does not directly affect the
United States, therefore it should not be outlawed. The supporters who want to outlaw the act of
publicly burning a flag feel that it is demeaning to the United States. Although this may be true and
many Americans feel this way, our country was built on the understanding and ability of every person
to protest the actions of the government. Rep. Randy Cunningham, a supporter for the ban of flag
burning, said on the House floor To watch somebody burn the American flag represents a destruction
of [the United State s] values, of [the United State s] ideas and of [the United State s] thoughts. (Cong.
Rec. July 2000.) Although this claim is a very good one, I believe the better truth was stated during a
U.S. Supreme Court Case. In the case United States v. Eichman it was stated But the mere destruction
or disfigurement of a particular physical manifestation of the symbol, without more, does not diminish
or otherwise affect the symbol itself in any way (3). This statement shows one of the underlining
problems with the people who argue that flag burning should be outlawed. The flag is a symbol of this
country, and in no way does burning the flag actually affect this country. Even the veterans of our wars
feel that outlawing flag burning is something that should never be done. MSGT. (R) Marvin Virgil

Another idea of a product I have chosen to develop my product as opposed to other products because
other markets are not as big as the chocolate industry for example chewing gum and doughnuts have
smaller industries with fewer competitors and therefore they will have fewer potential customers
compared to customers of chocolate products.
For my product I have decided to consult and work within Cadburys. Cadburys is a worldwide famous
chocolate brand which is a factory based in Birmingham. This business is well established and
therefore would be a good business to launch my product within as my business will already have
potential and existing customers of Cadburys, this will help to expand and grow the business which
will lead to an increased amount of profits earnt from my product. Also by choosing to work along
with Cadburys, I believe this suits my product because they are on the same market as my new

How The Disadvantaged Social Status Of The First...
The occupation of Australia involved an inventory of prejudiced and misguided policies against
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples that manifested in the dispossession, physical ill
treatment, social disruption, population decline, economic exploitation, codified discrimination and
cultural devastation of the first people of this land (Vos, Barker, Begg, Stanley Lopez, 2008, p. 471). It
is undisputed that compared with mainstream Australians, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
are still experiencing significantly worse health, social and economic outcomes. This essay will

Torres Strait Islander children s health, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (2005) states Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
experience lower levels of employment, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait adults in 2002 being more
than twice as likely to be unemployed, compared to mainstream Australian adults.
According to international research, there is indication that low socioeconomic status is associated
with poor health and increased exposure to health risk factors (Blakely, Hales Woodward, 2004;
Turrell Mathers, 2000; Carson, Dunbar, Chenhall Ballie, 2007, as cited in Australian Bureau of
Statistics, 2008). Data shows that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people without completion of
education were more likely to habitually smoke, consume high volumes of alcohol, engage in low
levels of exercise and were less likely to eat fruit and vegetables on a day to day basis (ABS, 2008).
Other social influences relating to the issue of poor health include low income, unhygienic living
conditions and remote location (Healey, 2002). Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with low
income have little available funds for purchasing health care and dietary needs and those living in
remote areas have restricted access to health facilities and resources (ABS, 2008; Australian
HealthInfoNet, 2013).
From this, it is evident that due to the social status and outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait

Analyzing Precise Electronic Structure Of The Different...
The core aim of the present work is to completely analyze precise electronic structure of the five
different doped BaTiO3 systems and the bonding interactions between the constituent atoms. This aim
is achieved successfully by adopting maximum entropy method (MEM). In this section, the
importance of electron density studies in structure analysis, the formalism of MEM method, the
principle, MEM methodology followed in this work to elucidate the electron density are given
elaborately.
1.9.2.1 Electron density The electron density is a quantum mechanical observable, that can be
measured through scattering experiments, in particular X ray diffraction from the crystals. The
possibility of measuring charge density in a crystalline system from its X ray diffraction pattern was
conceived several years ago when Debye and Scherrer explained the existence of halos in a powder
photograph where the images of the electronic orbit around the atoms [Debye et.al., 1918].
Electron density is the measure of probability of an electron being present at a specific location. The
regions of electron density are usually found around the atoms and its bonds. The probability of
locating an electron at one point (or) another can be calculated quantum mechanically. This
calculation gives a quantity called electron density. Electron can be viewed as a stationary wave (or) a
cloud of negative charges. The electron density is considered as a periodic function of position in a
crystal, reaches to a

Success By Malcolm Gladwell
In society, there is a common misconception that success simply arises from a combination of an
individual s innate talent and drive to acquire success. However, in the book Outliers The Story of
Success by Malcolm Gladwell, Gladwell introduces a new and different perspective of the foundation
of success, and proposes that other factors contribute to and can even determine the likelihood of
someone succeeding. Aspects such as hidden advantages, upbringing, timing, and cultural legacies
play a significant role in how well one will do in this world. The outliers of society are the individuals
who, because of their chance opportunities, have cultivated their inner talents and abilities to become
successful.
Hidden advantages play a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Gladwell dives deeper into the success stories of notable figures, their stories all share a common
theme that their success was not just of their own making (67) but was a product of the world in which
they grew up in. (67) The special opportunities hidden in their lives allowed them to achieve the
10,000 hours needed to master their craft, one of Gladwell s essential components for the recipe to
success. Bill Gates, a distinguished figure in the software world serves as a prime example as a
beneficiary of the hidden advantages received that launched him into a path to success. Bill Gates
sheer brilliance and ambition and guts (50) were not the only reasons for his success. Gates success is
owed to his opportunity to do real time programming as an eighth grader in 1968 (51), essentially
setting him up to become successful, as others did not have the same opportunities as he did. If Bill
Joy had not had an extraordinary, early opportunity to learn programming (51) and the Beatles had not
had the opportunity to perform for 270 nights on just over a year and a half (50), would they have
become just as successful? Through these cases, Gladwell makes it evident that the role of chance
opportunities is significant and vital to the likelihood of one becoming successful.
An individual s chance of success is predetermined by their family background and upbringing. As
Gladwell investigates those who were successful and those

Metaphors In Dante s Inferno
Dante Alighieri was one of the most inspiring Italian poets in the middle ages. One of his greatest
writings is about the afterlife, from the depths of Hell in his own made Inferno, into the mountains of
Purgatory and in the ever lasting spirits of Heaven called the Paradiso. But my main focus on this
essay is what in Dante s life inspired him to write like he did, particularly his Inferno. Questions and
history may lead us to believe that was it was his love, war or political view that shaped him as an
artist. There is a gap in his history with some unknowns for the simplest things like what was his birth
date. But some metaphors from his Divine Comedy may answer these questions.
Even today, Dante is inspiring artists with his writings and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Florence at this time being a loathed, despised, derogated community with corruption and discard,
Dante Alighieri lived most of his days working on his writings that will last hundreds of years. Church
versus independence of the city states gave Dante the motivation to get involved of becoming a
member of political governing body. In this time Florence has split into two parties, Guelphs who
support the pope and Ghibellines that support the Roman Emperor with the need of more freedom.
Dante was part of the White Guelphs and fought in war of his cause but with seeing life and death in
the horrific battle of war, this may have lead to vision of his own Hell. Dante was exiled from the city
by Black Guelphs or else he would be burned to the stake in result of his family having to split apart
leaving behind his wife Gemma Donati and his four children. Dante spent 20 years drifting from city

Essay On Peer Pressure
Peers are equal in abilities, age, background and even social stature. Peer Pressure is society
pressuring a member of a peer group to undertake certain actions, adapt values, and do what they
believe will allow them to be accepted into such a group. In the Bible, the Old Testament, the Gospels,
and the New Testament provides examples of Peer Pressure. The ability to either fall into or steer clear
of peer pressure is through the virtues of courage, temperance and prudence. We are followers of Jesus
Christ and we are not the same humans that once roamed the earth. We are should be more confident
in ourselves and our actions than relying on others to tell/show us what is acceptable or not. The Bible

Mark 15:15 states that Pilate was peer pressured into doing an act that he knew was not just, Wishing
to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus scourged, he handed
Him over to be crucified. This Gospel passage shows that our common sense can be easily altered by a
crowd of people wishing for a specific outcome. Pilate makes the ultimate decision and worries that if
the people do not get this outcome, they will riot and harm the one that made the decision. This
happens within our current society as well, regarding politics and how the government feels pressured
to do what the people want and if they do not, they fear of rebelling occurring within their nation.
Matthew 27:24 26 is alike to Mark because he too uses Pilate and his actions as an example. Matthew
writes, When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took
water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, I am innocent of this Man s blood; see to
that yourselves. And all the people said, His blood shall be on us and on our children! Then he
released Barabbas for them; but after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified.
These verses precede an important beginning. Yes, Pilate succumbs to the crowds and wishes to please
them, but the crowd would not have yelled Barabbas to be freed if it were not for

United States not properly using animal welfare. Animal rights activists believe that animals were not

went to the provinces. The setting of the constitution was a hierarchy system from the colonial office

government does not represent a voice of Ontarian or people of Québec. Most Canadian, believe that

The founder of BNAAct created two levels of governments out of political expediency, as a political
convenience. They could not have two countries, but rather, they could have two levels of government
instead. The problem is that by creating two levels of government, the British did not realize that they

Confederation, Québec premiers Honoré Mercier and Oliver Mowat allied to built the strongest record
of provincial rights advocacy . Both premiers advocated for compact theory which compared the BNA

Life Experiences In My Life
Everyone has life experiences that had shaped who they are in the present day. Some people encounter
situations where the sophistication inspires them to achieve better quality in life or the undergoing is
too depressing and then individuals commence to expect nothing marvelous to transpire from their
experiences. With this in mind, the empiricism of the individuals could cause a positive or a negative
on their lives and passion for excellence. All experiences should be uplifting to a person s dedication
to be successful in life. For me, the life experiences that always kept me going and shaped the person
that I am today were my mother s work ethic, my medical issues, and my high school years. My
mother s work ethic was always extraordinary encouraging and energizing. She inspires me to have
the same attitude towards college as she did towards work .She gets up on time by setting her alarm
clock every night before going to sleep. Also, she makes sure that her children get up on time to go to
school, so she sets their alarm clock too. Additionally, she has a positive thinking strategy towards
going to work every day and sometimes even every night when she works overtime at her job. She
envisions working as a life experience and never thought of it as nudnik, even though work could be a
very boring place to be. However, she always encourages her children to acquire a sturdy education in
order to be successful in life. She motivates us by explaining her life story of the struggles of growing
up without a father as a child and how she wants us to never go thought the difficult experiences that
she went thought. Every day she kisses and tell us to have a good day and learn as much as we could
learn. To conclude, my mother s work attitude will always prompt me to achieve a better quality in
life, but my medical issues also play a sockdolager role in my life experiences. Most of my medical
issues are very dreadful to undergo and overcome. Growing up as a disabled child with a
tracheostomy and a gastrostomy tube, my medical life experiences had its twists and turns. For

Solution for Air Pollution

The Solution for Air Pollution
Society as a whole faces many environmental problems, and as a result, environmental awareness
tends to be a pressing issue. Every day, people recycle cans, glass bottles, and newspapers. Many
people buy bottled water, or own filters for their tap water, as a health precaution from the pollutants
in normal everyday drinking water. Air pollution is perhaps the biggest environmental issue the Earth
is facing. Automobiles are responsible for a notable amount of the air pollution problem. Of course, on
the other hand so are factories. If the fight against air pollution were to be taken to a higher level,

There are many practical, cost effective measures that can be taken to reduce the emissions of air
pollutants, including the adoption of energy conservation measures and switching to natural gas. Many
existing Clean Air Act programs, such as the acid rain program, and the ground level ozone smog
programs, if properly implemented, will do much to reduce the concentration of fine particles by
controlling the pollutants. These give a hopeful outlook that the air pollution problem can cease to
exist in the severe form that it now does, and with the support of not only governmental agencies and
non profit organizations, but also the help of everyday citizens, the problem can be overcome in no
time.
The air that people breathe everyday is critical to the very existence of not only civilization, but also
the entire Earth; therefore, taking care of it should be a priority to everyone that inhabits it. A
commitment needs to be made by all. It is not necessary for everyone to be radical protesters against
factories and automobile manufacturers, but if everyone were to get involved, even in the slightest
way, such as carpooling to work, the air that is inhaled by all as a matter of survival would be
increasingly cleaner. The air pollution created by these factories is dangerous to the environment and
to the health of people everywhere. Industrial air pollution is

Inchoate Crimes: A closer look at criminal attempt
The criminal justice system is continually looking for ways to take preventative measures to halt crime
before it happens however when faced with defining attempted crimes the courts have found it
difficult to determine when an action should be punished the same or lesser than a completed crime.
However, there are three types of inchoate crimes that can be punishable by law as these crimes are
the beginning steps of the crime. The three types of offenses include solicitation defined as persuading
or encouraging one to commit a crime, conspiracy which is the agreement to commit crime and
possibly act on agreement and attempt is the unsuccessful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, attempt has two different subcategories of attempt that are punishable by law. Complete
attempt also known as imperfect attempt is when the individual covers all steps to commit crime but
fails to follow through, an example of a complete attempt is if a shooter misses his target in a drive by
attempt. An incomplete attempt is if the individual is forced to abandon the attempted crime due to
reasons beyond one s control, an example of an incomplete attempt is if the shooter had to abandon
location because of known whereabouts by the police. Although, there is a third type of attempt
known as the impossible attempt in which the attempt could have been completed had the scenario
played out correctly such as if the shooter shot at the targets location and target is not present however
this attempt is not a defense in an attempt to commit a crime.
Impossible attempts otherwise known as factual impossibility cannot be used as a defense for criminal
attempt and is not recognized by the Moral Penal Code. Another type of impossibility is inherent
possibility in which the act could never be achieved. However, factual impossibility and inherent
impossibility should not be confused with legal impossibility. The term legal impossibility refers to
when an individual commits an act that they believe is illegal however the act is not although type of
impossibility can be used as a

The Romantic Poets By William Wordsworth
The world of the Romantic poets is so much different today than it was in the time of the Romantics,
which ranged from 1760 to 1830. Known to a friend as a delicate adolescent John Keats was a
studious young man who was destined to become a doctor before he discovered his passion for poetry.
While Keats was admiring nature and imagining how to help others find true joy in the natural world
as a young man, students today are much more interested in supplementing their imagination through
video games, phones, and movies versus the language of the common man as William Wordsworth,
one of the original Romantic poets, would say. Despite this fact, the lives of the Romantic poets have
inspired audiences with their exaltation of the common ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through these various resources critics seemed to glean a good understanding of how Keats used
imagination in various ways. The first defines imagination as its capacity to discover, prefigure, or
create an unseen truth or reality (ix). Keats would have been exposed to the classics of ancient Greece
as a schoolboy. He was influenced and inspired by classic Greek art and mythology. Also, in his
travels, he was inspired by walks among the ancient architecture and ruins that gave him the
foundation for his work. Many of Keats s poems live up to this first definition but none so clear as
Ode on a Grecian Urn. In this poem Keats creates a ethereal world from the design on the Grecian urn.
The lover s locked forever in anticipation of that first embrace: Bold Lover, never, never canst thou
kiss, Though winning near the goal yet, do not grieve; She cannot fade, though thou hast not thy bliss,
For ever wilt thou love, and she be fair! (17 20) It is through imagination that the readers of the poem
can create an unseen reality of the lover s kiss so close but oh, so far away. Through imagination, the
feeling of self denial and frustration can be achieved by the reader. This is only one of the types of
imagination that Waldoff presents in his Preface. The second definition emphasizes the imagination s
capacity for sympathetic identification (x). In Ode on a Grecian Urn Keats sympathizes with the above
lover encouraging him not to worry as his love is going

FDR and Winston Churchill Essay
Between the years of 1939 and 1945 the world was sent spiralling in a mess of corruption, violence
and uncertainty. Allied powers were faced with the unparalleled task of protecting the world from
tyranny. In terms of political power, this weight was bestowed upon the shoulders of two memorable
individuals. By and large Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt can be labelled as beacons of
democracy and leaders of the free world in their time.
Winston Churchill, the son of Lord Randolph Churchill, became an officer in the 4th cavalry in 1894.

and called for US entry into the war. In 1940, Roosevelt made history in becoming the only president

surprise attack on Pearl Harbour. On April 12, 1945, roughly a month before Germany surrendered to
the Allies, President Roosevelt died suddenly from a cerebral haemorrhage. He was succeeded by
Harry S. Truman.
Both Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt were leaders of democratic societies whose general
principles strongly advocate the promotion and protection of freedom. Great Britain and the United
States of America respectively have been the two greatest democratic nations, in terms of economic
and military factors, throughout the greater part of the twentieth century. This being said, it is obvious
that any leaders of these countries must share a similar set of values and have a somewhat parallel
view of international affairs. Both Churchill and Roosevelt believed in democracy as the superior
political system in the world. They both understood that human beings should be given a certain
number of rights and be treated fairly in a society. They also viewed western style democratic living
standards as a model for how a society should run and how people should be treated.

The Treaty Of Berlin Conference Essay
From the mid 1400s to the mid 1700s, Europe established many trade ports in Africa, but no
colonization actually took place, and the few colonies that did exist were along the coastline. In the
last half of the 19th century, this all began to change. European countries began to invade Africa s
interior. By 1870, about 10% of Africa was under European control, and in just 20 short years, this
number grew to almost 90%. Every European country wanted a slice of Africa, and this became
known as the scramble for Africa. To avoid war between the European countries, The Berlin
Conference was held from 1884 1885. This allowed the Europeans to carve Africa into colonies. As a
direct result of this, the political and economic ways of Africa were drastically changed for many
years to come.
During The Berlin Conference, the Treaty of Berlin was drafted. This document laid out the ground
work for how Africa would be divided among Europe. The conference lasted until February 26, 1885
this was a time when the great powers of most of Western Europe argued over setting the boundaries
for how they should divide Africa . Over fourteen countries were represented when the conference
began on November 15, 1884, and by the end, Africa was divided into about fifty countries . Otto von

The Use of Sensory Imagery in The Rime of the Ancient...
In The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Samuel Coleridge writes of a sailor bringing a tale to life as he
speaks to a wedding guest. An ancient Mariner tells of his brutal journey through the Pacific Ocean to
the South Pole. Coleridge suffers from loneliness, because of his lifelong need for love and livelihood;
similarly, during the Mariner s tale, his loneliness shows when he becomes alone at sea, because of the
loss of his crew. Having a disastrous dependence to opium and laudanum, Coleridge, in partnership
with Wordsworth, writes this complicated, difficult to understand, yet appealing poem, which becomes
the first poem in the 1798 edition of Lyrical Ballads. The Mariner s frame of mind flip flops

because of a strong breeze from a storm blast; the Mariner states in his tale that the wind is tyrannous

rain as it pours down. As the Mariner takes in the rain, he begins to think of his crew, who are all dead.
The drop of the shipmates, the cracking of ice, and the roaring of the wind all appeal to the sense of
hearing, while the Mariner rants his tale. As the ancient Mariner s crew a;; die, he fails to hear a groan
as they drop one by one; however, the sailor hears the thump of the bodies as, separately, they collide
with the deck of the ship. The ice cracks, growls, roars, and howls as the crew travel through it;
Coleridge writes that the ice is like noises in a swound. And soon I hear a roaring wind, states the
Mariner during his tale; Coleridge also writes that the upper air burst into life, which causes the crew
to hear a strong breeze. Using the sense of feeling, Coleridge writes about the drop of the shipmates,
the cracking of the ice, and the roaring of the wind.

The Decision Of The Budgeting Process
The budgeting process is an approach that needs to be carefully selected, managed, applied and
controlled. As the CEO of the company my mission is ensure the right business practices are applied
to generate better outcomes to our organization. Our current budgeting process is a popular approach
used at many local, sate, or national governmental agencies, and nonprofit organization, which consist
on spending at the end of the budget cycle the amount that was not used. Managers tend to do it, as
they often feel that if they don t spend such amount during that specific period, next year their budget
will be reduced by the same dollar amount. This obviously could make managers to spend money
unnecessary and manage resources in ways that can harm the company. The purpose of this memo is
explain budget managers the reason why is not convenient to utilize the use it or lose it approach as
budgeting process due to its harmful effects and at the same time it will provide an alternative solution
for our current system. According to Horngren, C. T (2014), Budgeting can cover such diverse issues

Teamwork And Communication Of The Healthcare Field Essay
Teamwork and communication are very important in providing good quality care, especially in the
healthcare field. A team is described as a group of people that works together and cooperatively,
between each member of the group to reach a common goal (Sullivan, 2013). For a team to function,
communication is essential. A report by McKay and Crippen (2008), as stated by Alfaro LeFevre,
(2013) showed that when collaboration is in place, hospitals can decrease their mortality rate by 41%.
When mortality rate is lower, hospitals does not only decreased cost, but it also means that patients are
receiving good quality care. In the hospital, a team includes a CEO, managers, supervisors, charge
nurses, medical doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, social workers and maintenance crews; it can also
include many other members. In addition, a well functioning team is led by a good leader; a leader
does not necessary mean the CEO, but someone who is driven, knowledgeable, and a good
communicator. Charge nurse and nurses are normally the one that handles the care of patients in the
hospital. Both charge nurses and nurses can be considered leaders. It is why, it is very crucial that
nurses are good communicators. One would say that nurses are the spoke person of a hospital to its
patients. The nurses care for their patient closely, they communicate with the doctors regarding the
care of the patient; they communicate with the pharmacies, nursing assistant, colleagues, and many

A La Carte By Web Based Services Essay
Nowadays, budget conscious customers look at ways to avoid paying for expensive bundles cable TV
offers. They prefer to choose a la carte programming offered by web based services. A la carte
approach to programming enables the subscribers to pay for only the channels they really want to
watch. Several companies including Verizon, Walt Disney and Viacom provide their customers with
content they are interested in without the need of paying for channels they are not willing to watch. No
wonder there is a lot of competition between the largest operators in the wireless and cable industry
like Verizon, Dish and Comcast.
In 2014 Verizon Communication chief, Lowell McAdam, said that Web and mobile devices require a
different approach than traditional cable. He stated that Web and mobile users don t desire to have
hundreds of channels on their wireless device (Albanesius, 2014). Verizon looks into the future and
understands the need of implementing changes and satisfying customers. The company wants to move
in the right direction and allow their customers to have more control over the programming.
Dish is another company that has made their services more attractive to their customers. The company
strives to increase the value of their products and services. Dish offers live local broadcast and
channels like ABC Family or ESPN over mobile devices and set top box. Dish s customers are now
able to access Disney s Watch ESPN or Watch ABC Family apps making it possible to view live

A Short Note On Lymphoma And Lymphom Lymphoma
Hodgkin?s Lymphoma Hodgkin?s Lymphoma (HL), also called Hodgkin?s Disease is a rare type of
lymphoma that develops when the body?s immune system produces abnormal B lymphocytes. HL was
discovered in 1832 by Dr. Thomas Hodgkin?s. HL is most commonly diagnosed by the presence of a
mutated B cell called a Reed Sternberg cell and targets the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is
comprised of many different things, tissues, nodes, vessels, capillaries, and organs. Its main function is
to help the immune system fight infection by carrying white blood cells throughout the body in its
lymph fluid. Although HL can affect various parts of the body, lymph nodes are the part mainly
affected. The disease usually moves predictably through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Other factors shown to be associated with HL include age, gender, and genetics. Young adults and
patients older than 55 years of age have greater incidence of HL. Men are more likely to get HL than
women. Also, siblings of a person with the disease are at more risk and if the siblings are twins the
risk increases (Ansell, 2016). Hodgkin?s Lymphoma?s most distinctive presenting sign is painless
lymphadenopathy. These swollen nodes are commonly in the cervical or supraclavicular area, but may
present as a mediastinal mass. Mediastinal masses can be painless and asymptomatic, but also can
block the superior vena cava and cause respiratory symptoms such as cough and dyspnea.
Asymptomatic masses may be found inadvertently during an unrelated diagnostic test, such as a chest
x ray. Patients may also have systemic symptoms such as fatigue, pruritus, or pain after consuming
alcohol. These symptoms may be present but are less concerning than other flu like symptoms
commonly referred to as ?B symptoms?. These include: fever, extreme night sweats, and rapid
unexplained weight loss. These symptoms are very important in predicting the outcome and treatment
of HL (Townsend Linch, 2012). For diagnosis, the physician begins with thorough health history and a
complete physical exam. Blood tests for diagnosis may include: Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH),
complete blood count (CBC), and alkaline phosphatase

The Social Gospel Moverment
The Social Gospel The Social Gospel is the idea of social problems being looked and fixed with a
Christian point of view. The Gospel will always stay the same and we should refer the Social Gospel
as living out the Gospel. The goal of the Social Gospel Movement was to tie salvation and good work
together. They thought people should live the life of a Jesus Christ. Classes, counseling, job training
and libraries were provided by churches to act according to the Social Gospel. The origins and issues
of the Social Gospel Movement, how the Social Gospel related to a Progressive Era, the work of
Walter Rauschenbusch, and how Social Gospel relates to the Gospel will be covered in this essay. The
Social Gospel started in the early twentieth century as an intellectual movement. The purpose was to
live out The Lord s Prayer during our day to day lives. Social Gospel applied Christian ethics to social
problems like the issues of social justice. A group of liberal Protestant progressives started the
movement because they weren t satisfied with social problems around them and they did not feel
enough was being done to solve the problems. Social problems associated with rapid industrialization,
urbanization, and increasing immigration of the Gilded Age were the primary concern. The concept of
a society that respects elements of justice is called social justice. Social justice is usually applied to the

The whole crowd stood in silence to see if Sandel was able to rise again. This moment will determine
if King was going to win or lose because he was getting dizzy, so he probably wouldn t be able to last
any longer, if Sandel gets back up. All that hard work and strategy that King did will depend on this
moment. The resolution of A Piece of Steak is when Tom King loss the fight and cried. When he was
crying, King realized why Stowsher Bill had cried that night twenty years ago when King had beaten
him in a match and he finally understands the reason behind it. Bill probably had rent to pay, family to
feed, and food to buy. Yet, King stole that away from him over glory and easy money. The steak that
might had helped Bill, King gave to feed his dog. This ending was the only way to finish the story
because the author is trying to inform the readers that life is an endless cycle where the youth will beat
and replace the elderly. The once prideful and easy moment in life where you can laugh at others
crying would soon be over and you will be the one crying while others laugh at you. The ending was
foreshadowed throughout the story when the narrator talked about how the youth will climb over the
bodies of the old uns, then they will become the old uns getting stepped on, and it will go on for
eternity. In addition, the words that the toff told King that night when King beat Bill

The Medical Practices Of The Hmong
Medicine, to the modern day world, is a way of healing the sick and helping people experience life to
their full potential. It is an ingredient of a culture that allows the culture to survive through decades
and centuries at a time. But what if the medicine that we know as helpful is actually harmful? When a
child cuts their knee the first thing an adult would do is check the scrape and then assess the damage.
After assessing the damage, the adult would normally plan a course of treatment to ensure the child
would not lose a limb in the near future. After treating the child with a mixture of antibacterial wipes,
bandages and ice cream, what if the child is not better, but actually worse? That is what happens when
you compare the medical practices of the Hmong to the medical practices of the Americans, both
cultures believe that the others will cause more damage than good in respect to healing the soul and
body.
For the Hmong, there is a whole world out there, with amazing techniques, yet sometimes the simplest
questions like the choice between life and death create extreme conflict. Anne Fadiman accounts a
young woman by the name of Teresa Callahan who really is between the choice of life and death, I
[the doctor] told her over and over again that if the tube ruptured at home she might die before she
could get to the hospital. I called her husband and her mother and her father and grandparents, and
they all said nope (Anne Fadiman 71). What is amazing to think that in a

The Imprefections of the Societies in The Maze Runner,...
Imagine a life where everything is perfect. Sadly this is not possible. Many societies that were thought
to be perfect, like The Maze Runner, Nazi Germany, Sierra Leone, and Ancient Greece figured this out
the hard way. Societies fall due to corrupt leaders, lack of supplies, and a faulty security system.
Societies fall due to corrupt leaders which is a political problem. What lead to the fall of The Maze
Runner was the fact that they had corrupt leaders. Their leaders all went off in some way or another.
Alby was the first one to become corrupt. He burned the the papers which were the only chance the
gladers had at escaping. He was sobbing and just couldn t handle it all. Gally was another person who
underwent these changes. He claimed to know things about Thomas that others didnt.
Another once great society known as Nazi Germany fell due to this reason as well. Hitler was a crazed
man who can easily be classified as a corrupt leader. He did some crazy things that people today cant
really explain. What we do know is he tried to trick people into thinking what he was doing was right.
In a sick way, he was a fantastic leader. He could convince the whole society that blaming everything
on this group of people was the right thing to do. Hitler basically convinced everyone that locking
these people up was only for the sake of humanity, and things would be better after this. Corrupt
leaders can be a giant contribution to the collapse of an society, and that is why several

Role of Gender in the Book of Genesis and Theogony. Essay
The roles that men and women play tend to differ in different works of literature. The roles depend on
the culture and the context of a particular work of literature, and even the time the work of literature
was written. For instance the roles of gender will differ from African culture to American culture, as
well as from ancient America and Modern America. Old stories such as the Book of Genesis and
Theogony portray different roles men and men play. Most of these roles are similar in both books, and
a few are different.
From the Book of Genesis we can observe the male role of domination. In this book a man was
created before a woman and was given domination over all creations upon the earth. God said, Let us

1: 5 10), God gave the same authority to Adam to name the leaving creatures that were Gods
creations. He even named the woman created from the bone of his rib (Gen. 2: 22 23). Also, the
command of not eating from the tree of life and the tree of knowledge was given to Adam without the
presence of woman (Gen. 2: 16 17), meaning the male had the important role of passing this message
to the female.
Males authority is also clearly visible in Theogony. In this text all major duties and decisions are made
by the male God (Zeus), while there are also goddesses who could have made those decisions. Hesiod
writes that, He [Zeus] has appointed their [Muses ] ordinances to the immortals, well in each detail,
and assigned them their privileges (Hesiod, pg 4). He further explains that the kings were the ones that
made important judgments and settled disputes whenever the need to do so arises. Moreover, Hesiod
tells that When he [king] goes among a gathering, they seek his favour with conciliatory reverence, as
if he was a God, and he stands out among the crowd (Hesiod, pg. 5). This portrays a male as a superior
being and a ruler.
The important role of female even in today s society is to be a mother and child bearer. This role can
be observed in the Book of Genesis. Eve gives birth to three sons and the role continues throughout
the text (Gen. 3: 1). And the females who could not conceive would pray to God to give them the
ability to conceive (Gen. 30:23)
This role can

Native American Identity Essay
The Native American identity
To explain the Native American identity is necessary to take into consideration several arguments. A
group s identity is never a universal consensus, since every individual s experience would define the
meaning of what is to be member of a certain group. Despite these differences in experiencing and
living within a given culture; the commonality is that members of the group are recognized are part of
It by members of the group they claim to belong. Native American s self definition is a continuum
because [...] knowledge is conditioned knowledge, constructed within our conceptual systems, and

still in place: ignoring the necessities of the Indian Country by limiting economic and social

The Soybean Aphid, An Invasive Insect Of North America
The soybean aphid, Aphis glycines is an invasive insect in North America. Kingdom: Animalia,

glycines ( Soybean Aphid ).
(Diers, et al. 2009)
The soybean aphid is native to Asia and a common pest in China ( Soybean Aphid ). Asian countries
that experience the soybean aphid as an occasional pest are Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the
Philippines and Thailand ( Soybean Aphid ). The aphids were identified in Wisconsin in the summer
of 2000 (Venette et al. 2004). Many believe that the soybean aphid arrived a few years prior to its
identification because of the pest thrived in small numbers. Typically farmers and agronomist are not
going to know a foreign species until they are looking for cause of crop injury. The invasion is
believed to be accidental as the aphids were most likely introduced from, China or Japan carried by an
international airline passenger or associated with a horticultural cargo (Venette et al. 2004). Only two
years after being identified the aphids were found in 20 states including the Midwest and along the
East Coast which contain approximately 89 percent of the land in the United States used to grow
soybeans (Soybean Aphid). The soybean aphid was able to move quickly across the continental United
States. These small insects utilized wind currents to be carried great distances and luckily for them the

  • 2. Flowers For Algernon Essay Flowers for Algernon Daniel Keyes was born on August 9, 1972. He grew up in New York and attended New York University briefly before joining the United States Maritime Service at 17, working as a ship s purser on oil tankers. Many of his works were published in the New York newspapers. The inspiration for Flowers for Algernon struck while he was waiting for a train in 1945. His book was created on the single thought, What would happen if it were possible to increase a person s intelligence? Fifteen years later, the thought grew into a novella which was published in the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction in 1959. It also won the Hugo Award for best short story in 1960. In 1966, Keyes expanded it into a novel which tied for the Nebula ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But that doesn t stop him. HE has incredible motivation. Three times a week, he goes to Beckman collage center for retarded adults. His teacher Miss. Kinnian has complete faith in him to be able to do an experiment that may make him smarter. At first Charlie becomes frustrated that the experiment mouse, Algernon, can beat him at the maze games. But after his procedure, everything begins to change. Although he becomes amazingly smart, he finds a slip in Professor Nemur s work showing that his intelligence to be only temporary. Algernon soon loses his intelligence, but before Charlie completely loses his, he makes a point to tell the reader to leave fresh flowers for Algernon. When Charlie begins to feel only as another lab animal to Professor Nemur, he takes Algernon and they flee to New York where Dr. Stratuss and Professor Nemur can t find them. While there, Charlie does some of his own research showing that Nemur made a mistake. The intelligence that Charlie gained through the operation will only be temporary, and he would lose it as quick as he gained it. Charlie calls this the Algernon Gordon Effect. After losing his intelligence, he quickly forgets everything. He decides to leave behind the people who feel sorry for him, and he checks himself into a home for disabled ... • 3. Midsummer Night s Dream Contrast A Midsummer nights Dream is known as one of Shakespeare s most popular and most performed plays worldwide. Although there are many versions of the play, they tend to stay true to the original characters, setting, and them. However in Michael Hoffman s 1999 film version of A Midsummer Night s Dream, he breaks the traditional rules by first changing the setting. Hoffman sends the comedic action from ancient Athens to an imaginary Italian village named Monte Athena during the nineteenth century. In this portrayal of the play, Duke Theseus is nothing but a tired and seemingly unimportant bureaucrat, rather than a victorious hero as shown in the play. On the same note, Hippolyta, Theseus s bride to be, previously referred to as the Queen of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In particular this relates to Puck, who has been transformed from a mischievous fairy to a middle aged lounge lizard. Puck is the closest thing to a protagonist in the play because he is responsible for many of the complications that occur between the four lovers. Similarly, Titania loses much of her previous complexity throughout the film. The play emphasizes the strong bonds of an ancient female friendship that keep Titania from abandoning the Indian boy because she wants to care for a deceased friend s son. Hermia and Helena s lives are also marked by strong friendships although Demetrius who is in love with Hermia is also who Helena has fallen in love with. Hoffman does stay true to the ideal of female friendship shown in the play, which is one of the reasons, why relationship between Hermia, Helena, Hippoltya, and Titinia is understandable. Although, Hoffman didn t change everything when he converted the play to a film, he did change most of the major concepts. It is not certain why he changed much of the play, but one explanation that fits is because he wanted to modernize it. A Midsummer Night s Dream was written in the 1590 s and the film was produced in 1999. Hoffman most likely felt that change was necessary for modern audiences to understand. However, the outcome of Hoffman s changes is that the comical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Special Maintenence to Control the Instability of Aging... Construction of steel bridges in the 19th 20th century mostly depended on the use of rivets for connection. Bridges got built at a much greater rate than any other steel or iron construction using rivets. Riveting was a better proven and understood method of construction. They made a very strong connection when applied but were very prone to corrosion through rusting. Existing historic steel bridges are aging and experiencing increased levels of deterioration due to increased demand in vehicle weight and traffic volume. These bridges are increasing becoming weaker as the rivets used in their contact wear out leading to instability and unreliable due to the poor construction. Assessment of old bridges for maintenance purposes occurs regularly. These bridges have to undergo regular maintenance and reinforcements. This aids in strengthening them and ensuring that they offer adequate and reliable service to the general public. Thousand of bridges across the USA carry, support and connect public roads. State Department Of Transportation (DOTs) and The Federal Highway Administration have in the recent past focused on improving the conditions of the Nations bridges through bridge inspection programs, the enhancement of the current asset management process and preservation strategies. According to the regulations provided within the National Bridge Inspection standards set up in 2004 sets that all public highway bridges in the USA located on public roads and are longer than ... Seeing my mom focused on her job and me, I feel like a boyfriend isn t her priority. Making it to where I also believe that I don t need a man to be happy. Then I visit my day twice a year, and I see him in a happy marriage with his wife of 15 years. I feel this desire to be in a relationship as real and as loving as that one but then I go back to my mom and realize that I don t need anyone. It s like a constant battle between, wanting to be single and wanting to be with someone. I ve always viewed boys the same way I view everyone else; humans. Not special, not gods, just people with a different anatomy that I m supposed to obsess over. I was never one to feel the need to be in a relationship, and devote all my time to a relationship that probably won t last outside of high school. I always felt the need to focus on myself first. Plus, all the boys in school seem to be focused on one thing; sex. Call me a prude, but I ve never felt the need to give up something so intimate with someone that I m not in love with. I don t waste my time on fake feelings, just to impress and brag about the fact that I m with someone. I don t need to depend on the comfort of a man like some women do. Now that I m in college, I definitely see that some of the boys are growing up but not enough to actually think with their top head. I sort of look at men the same way most see us, women. Environmental issues that beset the world today such as Global Warming, entail many long term negative effects which in turn, must not only be solved through short term solutions but also be countered with long term solutions that will benefit not just the future of society, but the future of planet earth and the well being of its inhabitants. In response to this global crisis, various industries and institutions are now searching for alternative energy sources such as the Hybrid vehicle. Toyota introduced the first modern production hybrid vehicle, the Prius in Japan in 1997, and Toyota and Honda introduced hybrids to the US in 1999 and 2000. Both manufacturers use the same hybrid powertrain design, an input power split system. Fuel economy Hybrid systems can increase fuel economy and reduce CO2 emissions by 35%. The precise reduction varies with the technology and capability of the system. The reduction can be hard to quantify as there is no direct comparable non hybrid vehicle. A study done by Vincentric on October 2014 which compared 31 hybrids to the closest non hybrids provides a direct comparison of the efficiency benefits and cost of hybrid systems. Basics of Hybrid vehicle technology A traditional vehicle has a mechanical drive train which includes combustion engine, fuel tank, gearbox, transmission and the wheels. A Hybrid vehicle has two drive trains a mechanical and an electric. The electric drivetrain includes a battery and an electric motor. In principle these two drivetrains should be connected together sharing some components such as transmission and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Cortazzi, 2010) Unbeknownst to the Ephrussi family a maid from their home in Austria named Anna was able to hide the netsuke inside of a feather mattress within the house and preserve all of them until the family was able to return. (cook, 2010) Following the end of the war Elisabeth Ephrussi (daughter of Viktor and the late Emmy) would travel back to Austria to be reunited with the Netsuke. The netsuke would remain in the possession of Elisabeth until inherited by another family member, Elisabeth s son Ignace Leo Ephrussi whom lived in Japan at the time of inheritance. Ignace was extremely fascinated by the netsuke studying the small object for pleasure. (Cortazzi, 2010) He shared this interest with his nephew Edmund de Waal. Edmund would first see the netsuke in 1991 but would later inherit all of them including the hare. This particular netsuke features in the title of De Waals book The Hare with the Amber Eyes and tells a story of not only the Ephrussi family but the life of this netsuke and the 263 that journeyed with it. The purpose of this memo is to ask you for your continuing support for H.R.1217 Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act of 2015 (also known as the National Commission on Mass Violence Act of 2015). H.R. 1217 design is to support the second amendment rights while providing a responsible and consistent background checking process prior to purchasing of a firearm. It also prohibits the sale of firearms to those listed in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). In 2010 there were 14 million who people submitted background checks to purchase or transfer possession of a firearm resulting in 153,000 being blocked or prohibited from making a firearm purchase. Only 40% of firearm transactions occur through a licensed dealer hence an estimated 6.6 million firearm purchases occur through a private sale, a gun show, or the internet with no questions asked. Based upon these findings, there is a need for consistent and universal background checking for all firearm sales and transfers, thus aiding in reducing the number of firearms to persons that are at risk to harm themselves or others (Weinberger et al., 2015). The time is now to act for according to the Pew Research Center (2015) 85% of Americans support having private gun sales and gun shows subject to background checks. Gun Violence is a public health issue within the United States causing more than 32,000 people to die each year, which means approximately 88 deaths a day are because of ... Once new (bogus) SYN packets enter the system, old (legitimate) packets are dropped off. Thus, the server memory gets overwhelmed by storing illegitimate packets and cannot accept new (legitimate) SYN requests from its intended users thereby, denying services to its intended users. Over the time, routers became smarter. They use rate based filtering. After a certain limit of packets are accepted, routers don t further accept packets. Also, routers don t implement FIFO methods anymore. They only accept and store packets from computers that send an ACK as response to their SYN ACK and complete the 3 way handshake. Incoming packets from a computer system that do not complete a 3 way handshake are dropped. 1.3 2 nd generation DoS attacks As the routers got smarter, attackers felt the need to improve their techniques. The 2 generation DoS attack called Distributed Denial of Service attack is much more sophisticated than the traditional DoS attack. The attacker uses one or more controller systems and targets a few thousand computer system to convert them into zombies. However, these are ordinary people, of different religions, and different thoughts. When you celebrate a specific religion you usually don t want to acknowledge other religions because you feel as though you turn your back on your god. That is incorrect. The three primary monotheistic religions are Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Of course they are different in endless ways, but they are also very identical. Some of these leaders are are called priests, rabbis, and imams. Muslims, Jews, and Christians all believe in the same god. Although they all have different stories, and call the god different names it s all the same because it originated from one religion, Judaism. They also travel in groups for religious purposes. For example Muslims go to Mecca, Jews and Christians travel to churches. The colossal migrations are called a hajj. They are very sacred, and important. Although Muslims, Jews, and Christians are quite similar, they do not have everything in common. For example the Islamic religion prays five times a day, travels all the way to Mecca, and fast. It changed the way we viewed our government, the media, and our Constitutional rights. Because of this shift in perspective, the country was torn apart and yet still came together in new and different ways. The Vietnam War s contraversiality spurred a great many sources of protest, against our government s use of power, how far we could stretch the rights of free expression, and primarily against the violence of the war itself. These changes in the behavior of society have left a lasting mark on our perception and the demand to be informed since that influencial period of social turmoil. The ... One of the most prevelant type of protests were based on the imparting of knowledge. These were known as teach ins. The teach ins were really the first step in raising conciousness to the impact the war could have(Fever, 11). They were the first things to get people informed and involved. Starting with teach ins during the spring of 1965, the massive antiwar efforts centered on the colleges, with the students playing leading roles. These teach ins were mass public demonstrations, usually held in the spring and fall seasons. The teach in movement was at first, a gentle approach to the antiwar activity (Gettleman, 54). Teach ins were one important way to bring more people into the antiwar movement. During a teach in, students, faculty members, and guest speakers discussed issues concerning the Vietnam war (McCormick, 37). The teach ins began at the University of Michigan in March of 1965, and spread to other campuses, including Wisconsin in April. These protests at some of America s most well known universities attracted the public eye. The demonstrations were one form of attempting to go beyond mere words and research and reason, and to put direct pressure on those who were conducting policy in apparent disdain for the will expressed by the voters (Spector, 30 31). The supporters who want to outlaw the act of publicly burning a flag feel that it is demeaning to the United States. Although this may be true and many Americans feel this way, our country was built on the understanding and ability of every person to protest the actions of the government. Rep. Randy Cunningham, a supporter for the ban of flag burning, said on the House floor To watch somebody burn the American flag represents a destruction of [the United State s] values, of [the United State s] ideas and of [the United State s] thoughts. (Cong. Rec. July 2000.) Although this claim is a very good one, I believe the better truth was stated during a U.S. Supreme Court Case. In the case United States v. Eichman it was stated But the mere destruction or disfigurement of a particular physical manifestation of the symbol, without more, does not diminish or otherwise affect the symbol itself in any way (3). This statement shows one of the underlining problems with the people who argue that flag burning should be outlawed. The flag is a symbol of this country, and in no way does burning the flag actually affect this country. The core aim of the present work is to completely analyze precise electronic structure of the five different doped BaTiO3 systems and the bonding interactions between the constituent atoms. This aim is achieved successfully by adopting maximum entropy method (MEM). In this section, the importance of electron density studies in structure analysis, the formalism of MEM method, the principle, MEM methodology followed in this work to elucidate the electron density are given elaborately. 1.9.2.1 Electron density The electron density is a quantum mechanical observable, that can be measured through scattering experiments, in particular X ray diffraction from the crystals. The possibility of measuring charge density in a crystalline system from its X ray diffraction pattern was conceived several years ago when Debye and Scherrer explained the existence of halos in a powder photograph where the images of the electronic orbit around the atoms [Debye et.al., 1918]. Electron density is the measure of probability of an electron being present at a specific location. The regions of electron density are usually found around the atoms and its bonds. The probability of locating an electron at one point (or) another can be calculated quantum mechanically. This calculation gives a quantity called electron density. Electron can be viewed as a stationary wave (or) a cloud of negative charges. The electron density is considered as a periodic function of position in a crystal, reaches to a ... However, in the book Outliers The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell, Gladwell introduces a new and different perspective of the foundation of success, and proposes that other factors contribute to and can even determine the likelihood of someone succeeding. Aspects such as hidden advantages, upbringing, timing, and cultural legacies play a significant role in how well one will do in this world. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Gladwell dives deeper into the success stories of notable figures, their stories all share a common theme that their success was not just of their own making (67) but was a product of the world in which they grew up in. (67) The special opportunities hidden in their lives allowed them to achieve the 10,000 hours needed to master their craft, one of Gladwell s essential components for the recipe to success. Bill Gates, a distinguished figure in the software world serves as a prime example as a beneficiary of the hidden advantages received that launched him into a path to success. Bill Gates sheer brilliance and ambition and guts (50) were not the only reasons for his success. Gates success is owed to his opportunity to do real time programming as an eighth grader in 1968 (51), essentially setting him up to become successful, as others did not have the same opportunities as he did. If Bill Joy had not had an extraordinary, early opportunity to learn programming (51) and the Beatles had not had the opportunity to perform for 270 nights on just over a year and a half (50), would they have become just as successful? Through these cases, Gladwell makes it evident that the role of chance opportunities is significant and vital to the likelihood of one becoming successful. Pilate makes the ultimate decision and worries that if the people do not get this outcome, they will riot and harm the one that made the decision. This happens within our current society as well, regarding politics and how the government feels pressured to do what the people want and if they do not, they fear of rebelling occurring within their nation. He was influenced and inspired by classic Greek art and mythology. Also, in his travels, he was inspired by walks among the ancient architecture and ruins that gave him the foundation for his work. The Treaty Of Berlin Conference Essay From the mid 1400s to the mid 1700s, Europe established many trade ports in Africa, but no colonization actually took place, and the few colonies that did exist were along the coastline. In the last half of the 19th century, this all began to change. European countries began to invade Africa s interior. By 1870, about 10% of Africa was under European control, and in just 20 short years, this number grew to almost 90%. Every European country wanted a slice of Africa, and this became known as the scramble for Africa. To avoid war between the European countries, The Berlin Conference was held from 1884 1885. This allowed the Europeans to carve Africa into colonies. As a direct result of this, the political and economic ways of Africa were drastically changed for many years to come. During The Berlin Conference, the Treaty of Berlin was drafted. This document laid out the ground work for how Africa would be divided among Europe. The conference lasted until February 26, 1885 this was a time when the great powers of most of Western Europe argued over setting the boundaries for how they should divide Africa . Over fourteen countries were represented when the conference began on November 15, 1884, and by the end, Africa was divided into about fifty countries . Otto von Bismark, chancellor of the German Empire, was in charge of settling the subdivision of Africa between the European countries . Yosef * and Nabila M. Ibrahim Department of Organometallic and Organometalloid Chemistry, National Research Centre, El Behouth Street, P.O. 12622, Dokki, Giza, Egypt. Abstract: Reaction of 3 Methyl 2 benzithiazolinone hydrazone (1) with some seleceted isocyanate and isothiocyanate reagents 2a−j gave the respective semicarbazones and thiosemicarbazones 3a−j. Thermolysis of compound 3a under reduced pressure gave N,N`−dietylurea (4) in addition to 1,2 bis(3 methylbenzo[d]thiazol 2(3H) ylidene)hydrazine (5). Compound 3a was almost quantitatively recovered upon its exposure to sunlight in methanol for 60 days. Elementary and spectroscopic measurements (IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, MS) are in good accord with the structures postulated for the new compounds. The single crystal X ray crystallographic analysis of 3f was given and its data were discussed. The synthesized compounds 3a j as well as the hydrazone 1 were screened for their antibacterial properties against Bacillus subtilis (G+), Escherichia coli (G ), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (G ) and Staphylococcus aureus (G+) and for their antifungal properties against Aspergillus flavus and Candida albicans. Some of the tested compounds showed an activity against the four bacterial strains where their order of activity was found to be 1 3g 3j 3i 3e ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An ancient Mariner tells of his brutal journey through the Pacific Ocean to the South Pole. Coleridge suffers from loneliness, because of his lifelong need for love and livelihood; similarly, during the Mariner s tale, his loneliness shows when he becomes alone at sea, because of the loss of his crew. Having a disastrous dependence to opium and laudanum, Coleridge, in partnership with Wordsworth, writes this complicated, difficult to understand, yet appealing poem, which becomes the first poem in the 1798 edition of Lyrical Ballads. Though suffering a dreadful drought, the Mariner receives the blessing of the cool, wet rain as it pours down. As the Mariner takes in the rain, he begins to think of his crew, who are all dead. The drop of the shipmates, the cracking of ice, and the roaring of the wind all appeal to the sense of hearing, while the Mariner rants his tale. As the ancient Mariner s crew a;; die, he fails to hear a groan as they drop one by one; however, the sailor hears the thump of the bodies as, separately, they collide with the deck of the ship. The ice cracks, growls, roars, and howls as the crew travel through it; Coleridge writes that the ice is like noises in a swound. And soon I hear a roaring wind, states the Mariner during his tale; Coleridge also writes that the upper air burst into life, which causes the crew to hear a strong breeze. HL was discovered in 1832 by Dr. Thomas Hodgkin?s. HL is most commonly diagnosed by the presence of a mutated B cell called a Reed Sternberg cell and targets the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is comprised of many different things, tissues, nodes, vessels, capillaries, and organs. Hodgkin?s Lymphoma?s most distinctive presenting sign is painless lymphadenopathy. These swollen nodes are commonly in the cervical or supraclavicular area, but may present as a mediastinal mass. Mediastinal masses can be painless and asymptomatic, but also can block the superior vena cava and cause respiratory symptoms such as cough and dyspnea. Asymptomatic masses may be found inadvertently during an unrelated diagnostic test, such as a chest x ray. Patients may also have systemic symptoms such as fatigue, pruritus, or pain after consuming alcohol. These symptoms may be present but are less concerning than other flu like symptoms commonly referred to as ?B symptoms?. These include: fever, extreme night sweats, and rapid unexplained weight loss. These symptoms are very important in predicting the outcome and treatment of HL (Townsend Linch, 2012). For diagnosis, the physician begins with thorough health history and a complete physical exam. The Social Gospel started in the early twentieth century as an intellectual movement. The purpose was to live out The Lord s Prayer during our day to day lives. Social Gospel applied Christian ethics to social problems like the issues of social justice. A group of liberal Protestant progressives started the movement because they weren t satisfied with social problems around them and they did not feel enough was being done to solve the problems. Social problems associated with rapid industrialization, urbanization, and increasing immigration of the Gilded Age were the primary concern. It is an ingredient of a culture that allows the culture to survive through decades and centuries at a time. But what if the medicine that we know as helpful is actually harmful? When a child cuts their knee the first thing an adult would do is check the scrape and then assess the damage. After assessing the damage, the adult would normally plan a course of treatment to ensure the child would not lose a limb in the near future. After treating the child with a mixture of antibacterial wipes, bandages and ice cream, what if the child is not better, but actually worse? That is what happens when you compare the medical practices of the Hmong to the medical practices of the Americans, both cultures believe that the others will cause more damage than good in respect to healing the soul and body. Many societies that were thought to be perfect, like The Maze Runner, Nazi Germany, Sierra Leone, and Ancient Greece figured this out the hard way. Societies fall due to corrupt leaders, lack of supplies, and a faulty security system. Societies fall due to corrupt leaders which is a political problem. What lead to the fall of The Maze Runner was the fact that they had corrupt leaders. Their leaders all went off in some way or another. Alby was the first one to become corrupt. He burned the the papers which were the only chance the gladers had at escaping. He was sobbing and just couldn t handle it all. Gally was another person who underwent these changes. He claimed to know things about Thomas that others didnt. Another once great society known as Nazi Germany fell due to this reason as well. Hitler was a crazed man who can easily be classified as a corrupt leader. He did some crazy things that people today cant really explain. What we do know is he tried to trick people into thinking what he was doing was right. In a sick way, he was a fantastic leader. The roles depend on the culture and the context of a particular work of literature, and even the time the work of literature was written. For instance the roles of gender will differ from African culture to American culture, as well as from ancient America and Modern America. Old stories such as the Book of Genesis and Theogony portray different roles men and men play. Most of these roles are similar in both books, and a few are different. Also, the command of not eating from the tree of life and the tree of knowledge was given to Adam without the presence of woman (Gen. 2: 16 17), meaning the male had the important role of passing this message to the female. Males authority is also clearly visible in Theogony. In this text all major duties and decisions are made by the male God (Zeus), while there are also goddesses who could have made those decisions. Hesiod writes that, He [Zeus] has appointed their [Muses ] ordinances to the immortals, well in each detail, and assigned them their privileges (Hesiod, pg 4). He further explains that the kings were the ones that made important judgments and settled disputes whenever the need to do so arises. Moreover, Hesiod tells that When he [king] goes among a gathering, they seek his favour with conciliatory reverence, as if he was a God, and he stands out among the crowd (Hesiod, pg. 5). This portrays a male as a superior being and a ruler. The important role of female even in today s society is to be a mother and child bearer. This role can be observed in the Book of Genesis. Eve gives birth to three sons and the role continues throughout the text (Gen. 3: 1).
