Diction In Ralph Waldo Emerson s Education
Emerson from Education is trying to spread his message that the current school education is not in the
perfect shape but rather in a broken state. Because of the problem, the students are not able to learn as
well. Emerson gets his message out by using diction to strengthen his position and Emerson also
appeals to pathos. In Education , Emerson uses diction as a way to keep audiences engaged in what he
is trying to argue. Emerson uses the words drill and labor to create a hostile tone which enhances his
message that the school system is broken (Emerson). The word drill in this context is used as an
aggressive move. The author uses the word drill instead of teaches because the word drill makes the
school seem like they are trying to

My Favorite Vacation Essay
One of my favorite vacations We were all watching tv there was a football game on. My dad got up
and asked Graham, Dallas and I to go in to Graham s room. He told us that us three we re going to
colorado if we didn t have anything important going on. None of us thought we had anything but it
turns out that Dallas, who s a sophomore in high school, had too many test going on so that meant
Dallas wasn t going. We were all pretty bummed but not enough to not go. Graham started packing
right away. I didn t pack till last minute, that may have been a mistake. When school ended Dallas
picked us up and I raced up stairs packing as fast as I could. In about an hour we had everything in the
car and ready to go. We were off to colorado. Me and Graham were sitting in the back while our dad
sat in the front. Our dad then gave us two options we could go straight to colorado or stay in a hotel.
We all decided it was best to stay at a hotel by the time we got there it was almost 10 o clock. We
stopped at a hotel in Ellis Kansas. They had a pool and a hot tub just our luck it felt so good on our
sore legs. Then we went straight to bed in surprised all of us how quickly we fell asleep. The next
morning we ate breakfast there and continued to our destination. We had eight more hours me and my
brother fell asleep for most of it we woke up just before we entered the mountains. There wasn t really
any snow so we were all a little worried that we wouldn t be able to go on the mountain. We

The History Of Israel
Israel, a country of only 8.38 million people, has been thriving since it s independence in the year
1948. It runs as a vibrant democracy and the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has successfully
lead a coalition government consisting of right leaning and religious parties. This 8,019 square mile
country, has a modern market economy with a thriving high technology sector that attracts
considerable foreign investment (heritage.org, 1). Israel is surrounded by much larger and hateful
countries towards Israel, leading to multiple wars including the 2006 war against Hezbollah in
Lebanon, the 2008 2009, 2012, and 2014 wars against Hamas in Gaze, and furthermore, the constant

This is a very useful tool when you are trying to comparing countries to each other because it shows
the relative performance of these countries (investopedia.com). Comparing Israel to other countries, in
2016 with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Israel was ranked number 24 at $37,262, and with
the World Bank in 2016 as well, it was ranked as number 22 at $37,293 (Economy of Israel). All of
the GDP are converted into United States currency to even out the playing field and make it easier to
rank all of the countries. While the GDP per capita can help compare countries to one another, an issue
with it is that it doesn t take into account the differences in cost of living as well as the fluctuations in
the exchange rates of a country s currency (wikipedia.org). Within the entire Middle East, Israel has
the highest GDP, just about doubling Iran who is the second highest at $12,900 (Economy in the
Middle East). By breaking down the percentages of the GDP in Israel, it shows that most of the GDP
is towards services at 64.7%, then 31.2% in industry, and a small 2.5% in agriculture (Economy of
Israel). A major contributor to Israel s economy is trade. The value of the total exports as well as
imports together equals to amount 59% of the total GDP (heritage.org).

Background of Social Darwinism
Racial profiling is not new, however, and was a theory of sociology in the late 19th century known as
Social Darwinism. Incorrectly using Darwin s theory of evolution, the Social Darwinists believed that
some species were morally superior to others, and even some races superior to others ADDIN

for crime, and having a considerable fear of anyone outside their own ethnic group depending on the
situation. Similarly, much so called organized crime, amounting to billions of dollars annually has
similar stereotypes of ethnic origin (e.g. Mafia La Costa Nostra, Russian Mafia, Chinese Triads,
Mexican Mafia, etc.). Still, over the past few decades, at least since the Rodney King beating, the use
of race by law enforcement, and then after 9/11 by Homeland security, has received considerable
political and media attention. One is agog, for instance, at the number of traffic stops that seem to
target certain drivers, or the amount of arrests for similar situations focused on minorities. We must
remember, too, that racial profiling, or stereotyping, is nothing new for centuries, cultures have looked
to the other for excuses to go to war, to incarcerate, or to find reason for authoritarian behavior.

Hidden Homelessness, A Study By Sheffield Hallam...
INTRODUCTION TO THE RESEARCH QUESTION
Hidden Homelessness, a study by Sheffield Hallam University for Crisis, surveyed more than 400
rough sleepers revealing more than 1/5th of those interviewed had committed an imprisonable offence
in order to get off the streets for the night (THE GUARDIAN 2010).
Niven and Stewart s 2005 research indicates 30% of people released from prison are homeless and
offenders who are homeless prior to custody had one year reconviction of 79% compared with 47%
for those in accommodation (MOJ 2010).
Williams et al (2012) for the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), indicated three fifths (60%) of prisoners
believed having a place to live was important in preventing future reoffending. The Prison Reform
Trust, reported in 2013 that 68% of prisoners considered being in employment on release was an
important factor in reducing reoffending.
The aim of this research is to establish how and why homeless people come to find themselves in
prison and factors that may influence their likelihood of reoffending in future. Furthermore it
questions whether homeless offenders are being adequately supported for their release whilst in prison
by housing, health, probation, welfare and education services. It will consider previous empirical
research in the field from Salem et al (2013) as well as McFarland and Blair (1995) and Pleace (2013).
It will establish whether there is a disconnect between services commissioned by stakeholders from
third party and voluntary

Alcohol and Spiritual Deadlock--John Berryman Essay
Alcohol and Spiritual Deadlock In his introduction to John Berryman s unfinished work Recovery,
about his efforts to recover from alcoholism, Saul Bellows asserts that the act of writing poetry killed
Berryman, and alcohol helped fuel the writing process: Inspiration contained a death threat. He would,
as he wrote the things he waited and prayed for, fall apart, (Recovery xii). During his career as a poet,
he was diseased with alcoholism and suffered from extreme lapses of anxiety. Berryman wrote a
majority of the Dream Songs, his largest and best known collection of 385 poems, while suffering,
sometimes excruciatingly, from alcoholism. Throughout the Dream Songs, the narrators, Henry, Mr.
Bones, and sometimes an anonymous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Dream Songs, as will be discussed, reveal a dark past, a tortured identity, and alcoholic tendencies
that suppress the poet both spiritually and emotionally. Berryman initiates the Dream Songs with a
tone that well befits an alcoholic or one who is inclined towards self destructive behavior. His narrator,
the anonymous speaker, portrays Henry as pouting and resentful is nonetheless aware that he could
reach a compromise: Huffy Henry hid the day Unappeasable Henry sulked. I see his point, a trying to
put things over. It was the thought that they thought They could do it made Henry wicked away. But
he should have come out and talked. (#1) Henry is immersed in self pity and incapable of being
appeased, content to dwell in his malaise. The structure of the lines and stanzas also heighten the
effect of the sulking. The effect created by the meter in first two lines is analogous to experiencing the
whine of a demanding child (e.g. You can t make me! or I don t wanna! ). The brevity and simplicity
of his convictions also suggest that he is firmly rooted in his sulky disposition and will not easily be
swayed otherwise. However, the speaker sympathizes with Henry and understands his resentment, but
also recognizes that talking about and resolving the matter would be the best, most mature course, but
there is no resolution. Author Lewis Hyde states, in regard to the childish tone:

The Change to Trade Routes Over Time
In 300 C.E., trade routes were primarily between Europe and North Africa. The way that they changed
by 1450 C.E. was that they expanded southward and westward. By 1450, these trade routes went all
the way through West Africa, sub Saharan Africa, and the Indian Ocean. One factor that was
unchanged during this time period was that the northern coast of Africa was always involved in the
trade between Africa and the rest of Eurasia. The trade networks between African and Eurasia
remained very important during this time period by means of the trade networks contributions to the
Afro Eurasian world. The ebb and flow of trade between Africa and Eurasia during the period 300 to
1450 C.E really reflects the struggles and fortunes of the three dominant religions in the area;
Christianity, Buddhism and an upstart known as Islam. Although Christianity and Buddhism were well
established by this time, the growth of Islam was a catalyst to many of the changes about to occur,
such as new trade partners. Christianity and Buddhism were continuities, whereas a new religion
called Islam was an example of change.
In 622 C.E., Islam was founded which helped flourish trade. The founding of Islam amplified trade
because Islam linked Swahili city states to the larger Indian Ocean which was an important part of the
trade routes between Africa and Eurasia. In the Southern ends of the Swahili world the birth of Islam
extended the impact of the Indian Ocean trade well into the African interior.

Why Business Visionaries Need Fearlessness And Feariness
One of the principle reasons business visionaries need fearlessness and confidence is to guarantee they
use sound judgment. Effectively beginning a business will oblige settling on intense choices. Without
trust in yourself, you will discover choice making a troublesome undertaking. The more sure you are
in yourself, the more certain you are about your thoughts, improving your capacity to make great
decisions.another reason you require fearlessness as a business person is to guarantee you have an
uplifting disposition. When you begin a business, it is not difficult to permit apprehensions and
questions to keep you from accomplishing achievement. People with large amounts of trust in
themselves have an uplifting demeanor, which helps them to push fear and uncertainty away. With an
uplifting mentality, business people can push towards success.any ambitious person will let you know

Start The Fire
Throughout history music has been used as a method of communication and protest. This trend spiked
particularly during the Vietnam War in the 1960s and is shown throughout the decades with different
groups or genres to continue in increasing popularity throughout the decades (Candaele). One
particular song that portrays this is We Didn t Start the Fire, written and sung by Billy Joel. We Didn t
Start the Fire exemplifies a popular song taking a stance against contemporary social issues in 1960s
1980s America, particularly involvement in the Cold War. In order to understand why We Didn t Start
the Fire addressed the issues of the Cold War and other controversies surrounding that time, one needs

The lyrical message of the song is very in your face. There s no question as to what the singer is
referencing, nor his stance on the issue. The song structure (reiterating the chorus after listing certain
people, events, etc.) helps reiterate his message by singing the chorus stating his opinion after bringing
up controversial issues in an ABAB form. Additionally, Joel uses metaphors such as fire burning to
represent contention among mankind to illustrate his message. The rhythmic feel also contributes to
the pleasing sound of the recording, thus showing, along with the previously mentioned musical
aspects, the detail put into creating We Didn t Start the Fire in an endeavor to help the listener be
receptive to the message. The level of success of these methods are shown in receptivity of the song
following its release. This song was very well received by some and horribly received by others. Some
people claimed that it was one of the worst songs written. Yet, some people really liked it. For
example, some school teachers thought that it was an amazing song for teaching students about
different things happening during that time period since it covers so many events (Fetters). I
personally think that it makes a very persuasive case in combating arguments that his generation was
lazy or had it easy because Joel cites numerous cases that people would be hard pressed to argue were
inconsequential. However, Joel doesn t expressly state what people of his generation were doing to
combat evil in the world, which was also part of his argument. Instead, people have to do research for
themselves and come up with their own conclusion, thus weakening his

Origin And Themes Of Popular Soccer Chants
Devin Reddy USSO290Z: Soccer: The Global Game 20 November 2016 Origin and Themes of
Popular Soccer Chants The lyrics Walk on, Walk on, With hope in your hearts are belted out by a sea
of red as a Liverpool match is about to start. Even though the intonation of the singing might make a
choral director cringe, there is no doubt that everyone wearing Liverpool s red jersey knows every
word to the song. Sung in unison, the undeniable passion of Liverpool s fans is overwhelming, when
they wear their club s crest and colors on their chest and recite their anthem with their voice. This sort
of chanting and singing is mainstay in European football, almost as central to the sport as the ball
itself. Here, I will define chanting as the reciting or singing a tune or song, often with changed lyrics
with respect to the original version of the song, in order to evoke or convey emotions. The term
chanting will encompass not only explicitly chanting, but singing and warbling as well, specifically
pertaining to European football. Showcasing the power and unity of that club s fans, chanting can be
used for a variety of purposes, such as supporting their own club, celebrating after a goal, or even
intimidating the opposing club. Some chants, such as Liverpool FC s You ll Never Walk Alone, may
be passed down through generations of fans, engrained in that club s identity. However, there are
many others which are based off of popular music of the time, which come and go, just as popular

The Impact Of Social Media On Our Lives
Privacy is dead. We post our personal lives online without actually knowing the consequences.
Viewing other people s lifestyles online and how they can make it look very adventurous, makes one
seem like they haven t accomplished anything in life. This type of feeling makes it very tempting to
put our personal lives online because everyone simply does it. The social sites that are used more
often, due to a study that was done by Statista, are Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter. Surprisingly,
Instagram is a bit further down the list. This place called social media is an information grabber.
Social media is the collective of online communications channels dedicated to community based

The Rorschach Inkblot Test Essay
The Rorschach inkblot test is one of the most widely known psychological projective test of
personality, and the most controversial. In general, projective tests are psychoanalytically based tools
that assist clients to reveal their unconscious conflicts via responses towards ambiguous stimuli, and
can also help psychologists to determine psychological disorders. Specifically, the Rorschach allows
individuals to interpret a series of abstract inkblots based on their emotional and cognitive function, as

Rorschach stressed the need for further experimentation and study but he died early in 1922 at the age
of 37 before achieving it and developing his method of systematic interpretation (Kaplan, Saccuzzo,
2008). A Rorschach stimuli can be generated by dropping ink on a piece of paper and folding it in the
middle, but still the cards were not random but selected out of thousands that H. Rorschach created.
The test consists five black and white symmetrical inkblots with different shades of gray, two
black/gray with red stains, and three multicolored. Each inkblot is printed on a separate white card,
approximately 18x24 cm in size (Kaplan, Saccuzzo, 2008). To administer the test, an examiner,
trained in the field of psychology, presents one inkblot at a time and the person he assesses says what
each card portrays based on his emotional, and intellectual state. The examiner keeps notes of clients
verbal interpretation as well as his nonverbal behavioral responses, such as silence, facial expressions,
and gestures. Next, he asks the client based on which perceptions, internal (personality) and/or
external (inkblot) characteristics he utilized or was influenced by in order to respond, and once again
the administrator keeps notes. Afterwords, the responses are categorized and evaluated based on client
s distinguished observations and/or movements derived from the cards,

Introduction Over the years, Area 51 has developed a very mysterious reputation and it is confirmed
that Area 51 is in fact real because President Obama actually acknowledged it in one of his speeches,
but nobody knows what for sure goes on inside the compound because the CIA is very secretive with
all of its experiments, location, and how they keep all the different theories remaining a mystery. In
this paper you will find some information about how Area 51 does exist, and learn about some of its
experiments and what they actually use the compound for.

(Miller, 2013, p.1). When I wanted to know, I d call Shirley MacLaine. I think I just became the first

the cold war wrapped up, when a Las Vegas man who claimed to have worked at the facility told a
fantastical tale about witnessing crashed alien space hardware (Jonsson, 2013, p.1). According to

Narcotic Anonymous Meeting Reflection
The first meeting that I attended was a Narcotic Anonymous meeting. The meeting time was 7pm 8pm
on September 13, 2016. The group was made up of 12 individuals, 4 females and 8 males. The overall
feeling of the group illustrated positive energy. Each person gave the perception that they truly wanted
as well as needed to be there. I did observe that most of the participants depicted a very high anxiety
level based on their body language and the tone in their voices. There were no new comers , which is
the terminology used for a person who is new to the world of Narcotic Anonymous. The dynamics of
the group, included persons who were in recovery as well as persons whose addiction is still active. To

Each person said their first name. The chair of the meeting read the guidelines for the meeting.
Individuals were welcome to share their experience. The open topic for the first half of the meetings
focused on how Al Anon has helped the individual in their daily lives. One person shared that they
have implemented the Serenity Prayer and teaching from Al Anon into their work lives as well as to
relationships with family and friends. Another person shared that they have learned how to set
boundaries and adhere to them. Learning how to make sure that they held themselves responsible if
they allowed someone to cross the boundary. As with Narcotics Anonymous, Al Anon also has a
Twelve Step structure and several people commented on the steps that they are currently on and what
the steps have meant to them. No problems or issues were discussed. Individuals talked about how
they are connecting with themselves, not trying to change or control the person/persons in their lives
who have the addiction. The comments made were ones of encouragement. At several times in the
meeting a sponsor sign in sheet was passed around. At a half way point in the meeting, new comers
were invited to go to another room to meet with a member to get additional information and ask any
questions that they may have. In the second half of the meeting, the group was encouraged to share
whatever they wanted to talk about. One person spoke about the guilt they felt when they decided to
end their marriage from the spouse with the addiction. How their child at the time blamed them for the
break up and how it took almost three years for that adult child to even communicate with them.
Others talked about being lost, and having feelings of misery and hopelessness. They could not fix the

Omaha Beach Landing Case Analysis
The purpose of this paper is to analyze an alternate outcome to the Omaha Beach landing in
Normandy, France. On June 6, 1944, the U.S. conducted an assault into Nazi occupied France. The
Nazi s terrain advantage and overwhelming forces at Omaha Beach nearly defeated the assault.
Applying SIGINT and HUMINT assets to discover the Nazi s had reinforced the beach, the U.S. could
have justified increased bombing runs and heavy naval gunfire prior to the assault. This would have
increased U.S. lethality, decreased the loss of life and equipment, and decreased the time it took to
advance through the objective. The U.S. was part of Operation Neptune, an amphibious assault on
Normandy. The operation was part of a larger military action called ... Show more content on

and sharply angled steel trails. Emplaced in the sand and shale were anti tank and anti personnel
mines, barbed and concertina wire. In the cliffs above the Germans had emplaced bunkers, machine
gun nests, tank turrets, and connecting tunnels. German defense weapons included 35 pill boxes, 60
light artillery pieces, 18 anti tank guns, 85 machine gun emplacements, 38 rocket emplacements, and
the basic weapons for 12,000 German Soldiers. Any obstruction of enemy fields of fire were removed,
providing German forces with complete coverage of the landing zone. Perhaps most important to the
defense of Omaha Beach was who defended it. The 352 Infantry Division were one of the toughest
and most disciplined in the German Army. Of the 12,000+ Soldiers present, 6,800 were combat tested

volleys damaged little to none of the German troops at Omaha, leaving intact the most heavily

The Social Security Program
The Social Security program has benefitted many Americans since its inception in 1935. However,
Social Security faces many challenges. This paper will provide a general overview of the Social
Security program, highlight concerns with the current system and outline some methods to reform
Social Security. Some may argue the program will continue to provide uninterrupted benefits for the
foreseeable future with no issues. However, Social Security reform is essential to ensure the program
will continue to benefit Americans and not create a financial burden on future generations.
Social security initially provided benefits for a more narrow scope than it does today. It was designed
to benefit the elderly, unemployed and widows with children.

Put simply there aren t enough people paying into the program compared with the number of people
being paid by the program. This ratio problem has many contributing factors and includes more and
more baby boomers retiring, longer average life spans, and a lower fertility rate in the United States.
According to Mueller,
One of the reasons for Social Security s continuing deficits is the influx of retirees, which is putting a
strain on an already strained system. Every month,
Maxim 3
250,000 more baby boomers turn 65, with many dropping out of the workforce. In
2010, 10 percent of boomers were retired; in 2014, that number had jumped to
17 percent. (Mueller, 2)
This influx is moving the contributor to beneficiary ratio in the wrong direction. As far as longer
lifespans, if Americans are living longer but the average retirement age is not moved higher than
obviously they will spend more time collecting benefits and further push the program into debt. This
argument is also supported by The Challenge of
Democracy

Fashion Business In Africa
How To Start A Profitable Fashion Business In Africa
Fashion is one of the few business sectors that best resists bad economic times. Starting a fashion
business in Africa is a sure bet to have a profitable and successful venture. Dressing is one of the most
basic and essential needs of Africans regardless of their social status or financial situation. In fact, if
you ask a large part of society if they want to get dresses or buy food, they would say that they prefer
to go hungry rather than go naked. That is why fashion moves so many billions every year in all parts
of the Africa, and is an ideal venture to generate good income if you have a taste for clothes. Here I
am going to teach you how to start a profitable fashion business in Africa, and the key tips to become
a successful clothing brand in Africa.
1. Decide what kind of business you are going to put
Would you like it to be an online clothing store, a physical store in a downtown or shopping street, or
perhaps you d rather start with a franchise? This is a decision that you must take according to your
possibilities or the type of business you want to manage. But do not worry: it is not a decision that you
can later regret. Many entrepreneurs have started their business with a physical store, and then have it
expanded with an online store; and many people started a business on the Internet and then set up a
physical business. But either way, you must decide what type of business to put first. An online

Arguments Over The Earth s Age In The Bible
Arguments over the age of the Earth have sometimes been divisive for people who regard the Bible as
God s word. Even though the Earth s age is never mentioned in the Bible, it is an issue because those
who take a strictly literal view of the early chapters of Genesis can calculate an approximate date for
the creation by adding up the life spans of the people mentioned in the genealogies. Assuming a
strictly literal interpretation of the week of creation, even if some of the generations were left out of
the genealogies, the Earth would be less than ten thousand years old. Radiometric dating techniques
indicate that the Earth is thousands of times older than that approximately four and a half billion years
old. Many Christians accept this and

Examples Of Metaphors In Their Eyes Were Watching God
Love Zora Hurston s Their Eyes Were Watching God follows main character Janie Crawford s journey
into womanhood and her ultimate search for self discovery. Having to sudden transition from
childhood to adulthood at the age of sixteen, the story shows Janie s constant struggle to discover her
own voice and fulfill her dreams through three marriages and a lifetime of suffering that come about
from being a black woman in America in the early 20th century. Throughout the novel, Hurston gives
strong metaphors helping to unify the novel s themes and narrative; thus providing a greater
understanding of Janie s quest for selfhood. There are a couple significant metaphors in the novel that
achieve this unity: the pear tree metaphor, the figure of the mule, metaphors representing nature
personified and finally the use of visual imagery. Metaphors are used throughout Their Eyes Were
Watching God . One of the most powerful metaphors in the novel is the blossoming pear tree.
She was stretched on her back beneath the pear tree soaking in the alto chant of the visiting bees, the
gold of the sun and panting breath of the breeze when the inaudible voice of it all came to her. She
saw a dust bearing bee sink into the sanctum of a bloom; the thousand sister calyxes arch to meet the

Hurston uses a hurricane and a lake during the climax of the novel. Both the hurricane and the lake
represent the capriciousness of nature and the impersonal manner with which nature inflicts its wrath
on man. Hurston also uses these images to illustrate the inability of man to control nature. The
hurricane is a monster: It cannot be avoided. The lake is similar in its inevitable nature: Hurston
portrays it as unbeatable, impersonal and animal like as it leaves its banks and overtakes people hiding
in their homes or trying to flee the storm. Tea Cake believes he can beat it, but is ultimately defeated

Colonialism By Hernan Cortes Summary
Colonialism, according to Webster s dictionary, is the policy or practice of acquiring full or partial
political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically (1).
Hernan Cortes was a Spanish conquistador, who against the wishes of the crown, set out on an
expedition in 1519 to conquer a new world. Hernan Cortes came with the sole intent to conquer and
economically exploit the new world he intended to conquer. Wikipedia does a decent job at providing
reliable information, but I would argue that there are multiple areas the author can expand on to help
expand the perspective beyond that of a bias. The first suggestion that I would make in this Wikipedia
article would be to provide a more objective view of the native allies/allies, to get an all encompassing
idea of what actually happened. The perspective of this article is that of the Spanish conquistador,
while acknowledging that the author gives nods to various indigenous groups. This is shown through
the authors use of providing only surface level claims, not revealing the true intentions of Cortes
Expedition. In the text, there is a claim made by Cortés that stated the natives think of us as gods, or
godlike beings because the Aztecs and Montezuma thought Cortés was the Aztec god Quatizquatoal
returning. The description of the interaction is mentioned when the author states that Cortes attempted
to frighten the Aztec delegation with a display of his firepower (), this use

In our propaganda project we incorporated many effective techniques. Two of which are testimonial
and loaded or emotional words. We had a celebrity endorsement from the great and powerful Mrs.

Bullying At The State Of Nevada
We all might still recall back to our school days and the bully on the playground making recess
intolerable for some; or perhaps in the lunch room bully who helped themselves to our desserts. That
bully might have ended up in the principal s office, but likely not much more became of them. Bullies
have always been around, but now they have changed their preferred tactics. With the growth of
technology making our ordinary lives simpler, criminals and bullies have also used technology to aid
them in their transgressions. Many bullies have advanced to become cyber bullies and their chosen
scare tactic makes use of computers, cellular phones, or some other type of communications device.
What then is the actual definition of the act of bullying? Bullying in the State of Nevada is defined as
carrying out actions that may be highly offensive to a reasonable person and intended to cause the
student to suffer harm or serious emotional distress (Cyberbully tactics are focus of state law, 2010).
Cyber bullying elsewhere is bullying by means of electronic communication (Cyberbully tactics are
focus of state law, 2010). In Texas, bullying means engaging in written or verbal expression or
physical conduct that will physically harm another student or student s property, or is persistent
enough to create an intimidating or threatening educational environment for a student (Grobe, 2012).
These definitions are typical of those used in other states. Advances in

A Consequentialist Action Is The Moral Worth Of An Act
A consequentialist action is a utilitarian theory. The utilitarian theory is a choice between two acts that
can maximize utility for the greatest amount of happiness for the greatest number of people.
Utilitarianism is the moral worth of an act. Utilitarian takes the right proportion of utilities to promote
happiness and prevent pain. Utilities is the expressed quality of happiness or satisfaction one gets from
something (Mossier, 2013). Happiness comes in many levels of preference. However, the downside to
utilitarianism is identifying different levels of pleasure. Identifying different levels of pleasure can be
counteracted by an irrespective feelings to a moral obligation making the pleasure more desirable

Human Trafficking Is The Modern Slavery
When forced into sex trafficking statistics state that 67 percent of prisoners are forced into labor, 55
percent are women and girls, and 26 percent are children that endure the conditions and harshness of
this generation s modern slavery. Human trafficking is the modern slavery throughout the globe and
27,000 cases have been reported to the NHTRC hotline in the last eight years alone (Human
Trafficking). Human trafficking is of all ages, all genders, and anyone can be forced into the labor.
There are some movies that shine light on this topic, Taken for example seems to be one of the closest
movies to the ongoings of sex trafficking. Two women were taken from their vacation and one of the
girls fathers goes after her and tries to track her down. We saw from the beginning how the young
man, who was to abduct them, was able to learn where they lived, that they were tourist, and that they
were alone with a whole floor to themselves. It was an easy catch and the two ladies did not even
know what they had done by sprouting what they thought was harmless information. Women are seen
as weak and property, we can see this through out social media, even though there is talk of equality
amongst men and women in this generation it is clear that women are mere objects amongst a large
group of men.

Islam s Influences on the Modern World
The modern world is a mixing pot of different cultures and influences intertwining and overlapping.
The impact of one culture on another can be seen clearly in contemporary Europe, which lays adjacent
to Asia. Over time, European culture has evolved and assimilated with the incorporation of
surrounding influences. Western civilisation has taken inspiration in the innovations and discoveries of
great eastern empires such as the Greek, Roman and Byzantine. Arguably one of the most influential
and historically significant empires to the development of Europe is the Islamic. Islam directly
translates to submission . It is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion, as well as an empire, (which is
focused in the Middle East and Northern Africa). Islam is currently the second most practiced religion
globally. Throughout the Middles ages and the centuries leading up to them Islam was one of few
lifestyles which encouraged culture, art and an open state of mind, making it a perfect breeding
ground for scientific advancement and progression of the arts. Islam has shared some of the greatest
discoveries and revolutions of the pre modern age, all of which have undoubtedly assisted in the
construction of the western world we inhabit. One essential tool Muslims (those devoted to Islam)
have helped develop is mathematics. Algebra is the branch of mathematics including equation solving

Additionally, another major conflict of militaristic means was against the English, in which

foreign nations. England was the main competitors of the Dutch for trade during this time period, and
these seizing of ships made perfect sense if the English wanted to come out on top. For example, these
conflicts are shown on a map of the naval battles between the English and Dutch, during the years

Rebellion Against Slavery in Fires of Jubilee by Stephen...
Fires of Jubilee is a book that is talking about slavery and rebellion against it. The book is enjoyable
but still is very saddening because of the occurrences in the plots. Slavery is not something to be
happy about. Humans treating other humans with no mercy, and making them works with no pay for
extended hours. The killings made by the slaves are saddening, too. Mutilating the whites and leaving
their bodies lying is inhumane. It is such a shocking story. This book was meant to teach the reader on
the inhumanity of slavery. It also gives us the image of what happened during the past years when

Nat thought that he should use his intelligence and the respect he was given when he was a kid to start

On August 1831 Nat led a group of armed slaves in the middle of the night and went round the homes

Pulmonary Contusion
A pulmonary contusion is a deep bruise to the tissues of the lung. The lungs bring oxygen into the
bloodstream and remove carbon dioxide that the body cannot use. A pulmonary contusion causes the

A car crash.
A severe fall, especially from a high height.
Being near an explosion.
A sports injury.

This may be needed if you have difficulty breathing and have low blood oxygen. In severe cases, you
may need to have a tube placed in your throat and a machine (ventilator) to help with breathing.
Surgery if a blood vessel continues to bleed uncontrollably or if the lung has been punctured.
Initial treatment for this condition is often given in an emergency department.

Reaction Paper On Biking
One activity I like to participate in is biking. I chose this activity for this assignment because it uses
various parts of the brain due to the fact that there are many different things you must focus on in
order to successfully ride a bike. Another reason I chose this activity is because I am very familiar
with riding a bike, making me more confident in the accuracy of my statements regarding doing so.
When riding a bike, your brain must do much more than simply move your legs around in circles
(unless you want to fall over or crash). Additionally, it must process your surroundings and focus on
staying balanced. Furthermore, if you re clumsy like me, your brain might also have to make quick,
important decisions about how to not die in such a stupid way. A great example such a stupid way to
die would be the time a harmless little fly landed on my hand, causing me to bump into the chain
guard, thus knocking the chain off track and spinning the bike out of control. The first thing one
probably thinks of when contemplating the many parts of riding a bike, is the circular action of
pushing the pedals. The part of the brain responsible for such action is the motor cortex. I have chosen
the motor cortex over the cerebellum because while both are involved in muscular movement the
motor cortex is more about voluntary muscular movement and the cerebellum more maintaining
muscle coordination. The motor cortex is also responsible for muscular movement involved in
steering the

The Power of Social Engineers in The Art Of Deception by...
The Art of Deception is an in depth look at the vulnerability that the common man has to the social
engineer. Mitnick s perspective comes from a social angle instead of a technological one, seeing as he
is known as the greatest hacker all over media and most of his methods weren t technologically
inclined but socially. A quick look into Mitnick s background, he was an only child who had a knack
for understanding the Nitti Gritty of technology. As a child, he managed to hack the bus system in Los
Angeles and travel for free, exploited telephone networks as a teen and in college, infiltrated their
network and was later hired because it was either that or expulsion. These are just a few of his many
hacking exhibitions. He has served jail time because he realised what he did was wrong and is now
helping companies avoid similar exploitations through his security company, public talks and through
his books.
In this day and age, where information is the new currency on the block, criminals are on the rise to
acquire this information. The book highlights the different techniques and attacks of the social
engineer and how easily we are persuaded into thinking that technology has secured us from these
attacks. He shows these through a variety of stories that have actually happened as indications of our
negligence to these attacks, but as well points out ways that we can protect ourselves from these
attacks and become less victimized by the social engineer. He gets us to look through

Manha De Carnival Formal Analysis
In Manha De Carnival , from what I heard, there are two musical idea. From 0:00 1:19 is idea A. It is
assembled with a few saxophone, piano and different percussion instrument with brass and woodwind
instrument. Then from 1:20 2:19 it switch to idea B, while the saxophone is more standout then the
other instrument, make it feel like it is a saxophone solo, but it is an improvised; The melody and pitch
is different, it seems shorter and scattered. Flowed by a piano solo from 2:20 3:18, I think it have the
same idea as idea B; Percussion instrument as the back ground melody while the piano play as an
improvised solo. After that, 3:19 to the end, it return back to idea A. The whole song is illustrated with
riffs and syncopated rhythms, also

Richard Wright s Black Boy
Black Boy, an autobiographical novel written by Richard Wright tells his story starting from his
childhood to youth. Wright used ironic tone to express the struggle of being born black in America. In
his book, Wright described the political system where colored people were segregated and seen as
objects rather than human beings. Reading Black Boy gives me an overview of the time when there
was no equal treatment towards whites and blacks and the time when colored people were considered
as property. His use of vivid words and his way of describing the difficult situations that he
encountered by just being black helped me to visualize the story of Wright s life and the lives of
colored people. In addition, I realized that the impacts of slavery, brutal treatment of black people, and
the segregation of colored people have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As said by the American civil rights activist, Ruby Bridges, Kids know nothing about racism. They are
taught that by adults. Wright knew about race when he experienced how white employers, white
polices, and white racists treated colored people. Now days, it is obvious to see how kids are taught to
develop hatred towards particular groups of people. Furthermore, throughout his book, Wright
indicated his unstoppable fight for racism by using his talent of writing. As Wright said. I would make
his life more intelligible to others than it was to himself. I would reclaim his disordered days and cast
them into a form that people could grasp, see, understand, and accept. Wright did not just sit and
watch black people suffer, he used his talent to write biographical story of black communist to reveal
the lives and the suffering of colored people. From this, I have learned that I, as an immigrant student,
have to make my voice heard concerning racist policies and contribute to make a difference in the
current political situation of the United

Student Body Vice President
Being Student Body Vice president was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever been a part
of. I know that many kids think it is lame and has no point, but for me it really felt good to have a say
in what went on at my high school. Student council is a very eclectic group from the band kids to the
football jocks. Another thing that is different than most things I have been a part of was the fact that
all grades were together. Up until student council I had never been a part of an organization where
everyone was so different. It was great to have people from all different walks of life because then
student council really was representing the whole school, but this also brought on many worries for
me. From the first day the teacher had told me that I would be the one doing most of the in class ...

I proceeded to tell her how I knew the football guys and cheerleaders were going to take it as a joke
and how the band kids would only want to plan weird events that no one would go to. I had gone into
this so excited and now, after just one day, I was ready to quit. My mom told me I should stick it out
longer, so I did. The next few weeks we were planning homecoming, and to my surprise the band kids
had great ideas and the popular kids actually showed up to meeting to help plan. In a weird way
everyone s very different personalities just began to jive together. With homecoming just 2 days away
everyone s ideas had come together and all that was left was the setup. I was super happy, but still
being a little pessimistic. Homecoming had come and went and we were having a student council
party at my house to celebrate. Everyone at this point was friends and mingling around until our
teacher said he had an announcement. He told us that this was the most successful dance the school
had ever had and that we raised almost 50% more than all years past. Everyone was

Want a change? Maybe your favorite celebrity dyes his/her hair? Or maybe you want to hide a grey

our appearance and this is the most drastic, yet semi permanent way to change ourselves. People have
been told for years that cancer is simply a spontaneous occurrence based on predisposed genetic traits,
which increase or decrease your chance of getting cancer. Well, read on...!
As October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) and major breast cancer charities
organize health campaigns to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its
cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. Breast cancer is cancer that develops from breast
tissue.
A new study found that women who dye their hair often may be at greater risk of contracting breast
cancer, but said it s unclear if the products were the direct cause of the disease.
The side effects of chemicals found in certain hair dyes varies from severe allergies, skin, eye,
throat/lung irritation and rheumatoid arthritis to cancer of the bladder. There are many risk factors for

Because of the problem, the students are not able to learn as well. Emerson gets his message out by using diction to strengthen his position and Emerson also appeals to pathos. In Education , Emerson uses diction as a way to keep audiences engaged in what he is trying to argue. Emerson uses the words drill and labor to create a hostile tone which enhances his message that the school system is broken (Emerson). The word drill in this context is used as an aggressive move. He told us that us three we re going to colorado if we didn t have anything important going on. None of us thought we had anything but it turns out that Dallas, who s a sophomore in high school, had too many test going on so that meant Dallas wasn t going. We were all pretty bummed but not enough to not go. Graham started packing right away. I didn t pack till last minute, that may have been a mistake. When school ended Dallas picked us up and I raced up stairs packing as fast as I could. In about an hour we had everything in the car and ready to go. We were off to colorado. Me and Graham were sitting in the back while our dad sat in the front. Our dad then gave us two options we could go straight to colorado or stay in a hotel. We all decided it was best to stay at a hotel by the time we got there it was almost 10 o clock. We stopped at a hotel in Ellis Kansas. INTRODUCTION TO THE RESEARCH QUESTION Hidden Homelessness, a study by Sheffield Hallam University for Crisis, surveyed more than 400 rough sleepers revealing more than 1/5th of those interviewed had committed an imprisonable offence in order to get off the streets for the night (THE GUARDIAN 2010). Niven and Stewart s 2005 research indicates 30% of people released from prison are homeless and offenders who are homeless prior to custody had one year reconviction of 79% compared with 47% for those in accommodation (MOJ 2010). Williams et al (2012) for the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), indicated three fifths (60%) of prisoners believed having a place to live was important in preventing future reoffending. The Prison Reform Trust, reported in 2013 that 68% of prisoners considered being in employment on release was an important factor in reducing reoffending. The aim of this research is to establish how and why homeless people come to find themselves in prison and factors that may influence their likelihood of reoffending in future. Furthermore it questions whether homeless offenders are being adequately supported for their release whilst in prison by housing, health, probation, welfare and education services. Alcohol and Spiritual Deadlock--John Berryman Essay Alcohol and Spiritual Deadlock In his introduction to John Berryman s unfinished work Recovery, about his efforts to recover from alcoholism, Saul Bellows asserts that the act of writing poetry killed Berryman, and alcohol helped fuel the writing process: Inspiration contained a death threat. He would, as he wrote the things he waited and prayed for, fall apart, (Recovery xii). During his career as a poet, he was diseased with alcoholism and suffered from extreme lapses of anxiety. The Dream Songs, as will be discussed, reveal a dark past, a tortured identity, and alcoholic tendencies that suppress the poet both spiritually and emotionally. Berryman initiates the Dream Songs with a tone that well befits an alcoholic or one who is inclined towards self destructive behavior. His narrator, the anonymous speaker, portrays Henry as pouting and resentful is nonetheless aware that he could reach a compromise: Huffy Henry hid the day Unappeasable Henry sulked. (#1) Henry is immersed in self pity and incapable of being appeased, content to dwell in his malaise. The structure of the lines and stanzas also heighten the effect of the sulking. The effect created by the meter in first two lines is analogous to experiencing the whine of a demanding child (e.g. You can t make me! or I don t wanna! ). The brevity and simplicity of his convictions also suggest that he is firmly rooted in his sulky disposition and will not easily be swayed otherwise. However, the speaker sympathizes with Henry and understands his resentment, but also recognizes that talking about and resolving the matter would be the best, most mature course, but there is no resolution. • 14. The Change to Trade Routes Over Time In 300 C.E., trade routes were primarily between Europe and North Africa. The way that they changed by 1450 C.E. was that they expanded southward and westward. By 1450, these trade routes went all the way through West Africa, sub Saharan Africa, and the Indian Ocean. One factor that was unchanged during this time period was that the northern coast of Africa was always involved in the trade between Africa and the rest of Eurasia. The trade networks between African and Eurasia remained very important during this time period by means of the trade networks contributions to the Afro Eurasian world. The ebb and flow of trade between Africa and Eurasia during the period 300 to 1450 C.E really reflects the struggles and fortunes of the three dominant religions in the area; Christianity, Buddhism and an upstart known as Islam. Although Christianity and Buddhism were well established by this time, the growth of Islam was a catalyst to many of the changes about to occur, such as new trade partners. Christianity and Buddhism were continuities, whereas a new religion called Islam was an example of change. In 622 C.E., Islam was founded which helped flourish trade. The founding of Islam amplified trade because Islam linked Swahili city states to the larger Indian Ocean which was an important part of the trade routes between Africa and Eurasia. The song structure (reiterating the chorus after listing certain people, events, etc.) helps reiterate his message by singing the chorus stating his opinion after bringing up controversial issues in an ABAB form. Additionally, Joel uses metaphors such as fire burning to represent contention among mankind to illustrate his message. The rhythmic feel also contributes to the pleasing sound of the recording, thus showing, along with the previously mentioned musical aspects, the detail put into creating We Didn t Start the Fire in an endeavor to help the listener be receptive to the message. Sung in unison, the undeniable passion of Liverpool s fans is overwhelming, when they wear their club s crest and colors on their chest and recite their anthem with their voice. This sort of chanting and singing is mainstay in European football, almost as central to the sport as the ball itself. Here, I will define chanting as the reciting or singing a tune or song, often with changed lyrics with respect to the original version of the song, in order to evoke or convey emotions. The term chanting will encompass not only explicitly chanting, but singing and warbling as well, specifically pertaining to European football. Showcasing the power and unity of that club s fans, chanting can be used for a variety of purposes, such as supporting their own club, celebrating after a goal, or even intimidating the opposing club. Decide what kind of business you are going to put Would you like it to be an online clothing store, a physical store in a downtown or shopping street, or perhaps you d rather start with a franchise? This is a decision that you must take according to your possibilities or the type of business you want to manage. But do not worry: it is not a decision that you can later regret. Many entrepreneurs have started their business with a physical store, and then have it expanded with an online store; and many people started a business on the Internet and then set up a physical business. But either way, you must decide what type of business to put first. An online clothing store ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though the Earth s age is never mentioned in the Bible, it is an issue because those who take a strictly literal view of the early chapters of Genesis can calculate an approximate date for the creation by adding up the life spans of the people mentioned in the genealogies. Assuming a strictly literal interpretation of the week of creation, even if some of the generations were left out of the genealogies, the Earth would be less than ten thousand years old. Radiometric dating techniques indicate that the Earth is thousands of times older than that approximately four and a half billion years old. Many Christians accept this and ... Examples Of Metaphors In Their Eyes Were Watching God Love Zora Hurston s Their Eyes Were Watching God follows main character Janie Crawford s journey into womanhood and her ultimate search for self discovery. Having to sudden transition from childhood to adulthood at the age of sixteen, the story shows Janie s constant struggle to discover her own voice and fulfill her dreams through three marriages and a lifetime of suffering that come about from being a black woman in America in the early 20th century. Throughout the novel, Hurston gives strong metaphors helping to unify the novel s themes and narrative; thus providing a greater understanding of Janie s quest for selfhood. There are a couple significant metaphors in the novel that achieve this unity: the pear tree metaphor, the figure of the mule, metaphors representing nature personified and finally the use of visual imagery. Metaphors are used throughout Their Eyes Were Watching God . One of the most powerful metaphors in the novel is the blossoming pear tree. She was stretched on her back beneath the pear tree soaking in the alto chant of the visiting bees, the gold of the sun and panting breath of the breeze when the inaudible voice of it all came to her. • 31. Colonialism By Hernan Cortes Summary Colonialism, according to Webster s dictionary, is the policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically (1). Hernan Cortes was a Spanish conquistador, who against the wishes of the crown, set out on an expedition in 1519 to conquer a new world. Hernan Cortes came with the sole intent to conquer and economically exploit the new world he intended to conquer. Wikipedia does a decent job at providing reliable information, but I would argue that there are multiple areas the author can expand on to help expand the perspective beyond that of a bias. The first suggestion that I would make in this Wikipedia article would be to provide a more objective view of the native allies/allies, to get an all encompassing idea of what actually happened. The perspective of this article is that of the Spanish conquistador, while acknowledging that the author gives nods to various indigenous groups. This is shown through the authors use of providing only surface level claims, not revealing the true intentions of Cortes Expedition. In the text, there is a claim made by Cortés that stated the natives think of us as gods, or godlike beings because the Aztecs and Montezuma thought Cortés was the Aztec god Quatizquatoal returning. The description of the interaction is mentioned when the author states that Cortes attempted to frighten the Aztec delegation with a display of his firepower (), this use ... Bullying At The State Of Nevada We all might still recall back to our school days and the bully on the playground making recess intolerable for some; or perhaps in the lunch room bully who helped themselves to our desserts. That bully might have ended up in the principal s office, but likely not much more became of them. Bullies have always been around, but now they have changed their preferred tactics. With the growth of technology making our ordinary lives simpler, criminals and bullies have also used technology to aid them in their transgressions. Many bullies have advanced to become cyber bullies and their chosen scare tactic makes use of computers, cellular phones, or some other type of communications device. What then is the actual definition of the act of bullying? Bullying in the State of Nevada is defined as carrying out actions that may be highly offensive to a reasonable person and intended to cause the student to suffer harm or serious emotional distress (Cyberbully tactics are focus of state law, 2010). Cyber bullying elsewhere is bullying by means of electronic communication (Cyberbully tactics are focus of state law, 2010). Another reason I chose this activity is because I am very familiar with riding a bike, making me more confident in the accuracy of my statements regarding doing so. When riding a bike, your brain must do much more than simply move your legs around in circles (unless you want to fall over or crash). Additionally, it must process your surroundings and focus on staying balanced. Furthermore, if you re clumsy like me, your brain might also have to make quick, important decisions about how to not die in such a stupid way. A great example such a stupid way to die would be the time a harmless little fly landed on my hand, causing me to bump into the chain guard, thus knocking the chain off track and spinning the bike out of control. The first thing one probably thinks of when contemplating the many parts of riding a bike, is the circular action of pushing the pedals. The part of the brain responsible for such action is the motor cortex.
