The Native American Indian Population
The population that has been officially chosen is the Native American population, also known as
American Indian. Aside from the information given by this course, a Children s Literature class taken
at the Newark branch of the Ohio State University also contributed to my decision. During a lecture
there was a guest speaker of Native American descent, she grew up on a reservation, and in her work
she wrote and illustrated the Native American culture and lifestyle. Her lecture consisted of the
perspective of the Native American population during colonization, and now, as well as the
misconceptions of the population and discussed a council that allows the American Indian community
to be aware of the number of tribes, the number of individuals within each tribe, and locations of
various tribes. The essay will consist of the history of the American Indian population, current
statistics, news within the last six months pertaining to the population, and links and resources will be
provided. The class textbook, Strangers to These Shores 11th Edition by Vincent N. Parrillo, is the
main resource utilized for historical information on the American Indian population. The book
provides information on pre colonization, stereotypes, government policies, current affects from
colonization and statistics. According to the class textbook, before colonization the Native American
population was between six and ten million (Parrillo 2014). Moreover, American Indians have culture
rich in art,

History of Nanking Massacre
Despite having the horrific Nanking Massacre occur 70 years ago, its history is barely buried like
many of the dead were at the time. The Nanking Massacre (also known as the Rape of Nanking)
occurred as a part of the 2nd Sino Japanese War, which would then become part of World War II. This
war involved the Republic of China defending against the invading Japanese forces. Unfortunately,
China was weakened due to a civil war between the Communists and the Nationalists, so it was easily
invaded. The Nanking Massacre shows the negative elements of Human Nature and should be taught
in schools because it portrays the brutality of the Japanese in Asia. The Rape of Nanking started on
December 13, 1937. This was the day the Japanese invaded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is estimated from 150,000 to 300,000 people were killed during the seven week period. The Rape of
Nanking shows the negative elements of humanity by portraying how the Japanese were relentless at
their tactics toward the civilians. The people of Nanking were at their mercy at all times and any
violation meant instant death. The Japanese soldiers acted without any discipline, chivalry, or honor,
which were what the original bushido code had strived for.
The massacre is significant because it would pave the way for the future of any relations between
China and Japan. Their relationship is very strained already because Japan has not issued a mutually
accepted apology for its war crimes (Yew). Neither country is willing to give in due to denial in Japan
and anger in China (Yew). The Nanking Massacre should be taught in schools alongside the Holocaust
because even though the Holocaust was extermination, both of these tragic events show hatred at its
core: Nazis against the Jews and the Japanese against the Chinese. This event displayed that each
gruesome mass killing, does not highlight, but instead blurs the distinctions between us (Yew).
Japanese troops were trained to believe the Chinese were inferior to them, therefore they must be
killed. Similarly, the Nazis were trained to believe the Jews were inferior. The Nanking Massacre also

The Play Of Louis De Rougemont
The title of the play that I saw was Shipwrecked! An Entertainment: The Amazing Adventures of
Louis De Rougemont (As told by Himself.) Donald Margulies is the playwright of this play. Arthur
Grothe directed the show that I saw and where the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire performed it.
The play took place at the Riverside Theater in Haas Fine Arts Center. The play would be considered
an action drama, one that was filled with almost every emotion, but the main genre would be action.
Overall, the major themes of this play were the stories of Louis De Rougemont, the incredible tales
that went on to be proven that they were too good to be true. This play s setting takes place in 19th
century London. The minor themes of this play were mental illness and their affects and love. In the
audience, it is hard not to fall in love with Louis De Rougemont and his tale.
This play is very clear who the protagonist is. The protagonist is Louis De Rougemont. Louis is a boy
who is shut in by his mother, he is not allowed to see the world, and in fact the only thing he sees is
his bed. However, it is his imagination that helps him get through these days. He imagines the stories
his mother tells him with vivid descriptions, so much so that he believes he is destine for a life at sea
after hearing many stories about it. His goal is leave his home and set out to sail for Australia.
However, he has never seen the world, he has only spent sixteen years of his life inside aided by his
mother.

Lack Of Indoor Coverage And Low Data Rates
different approach to the existing problems of lack of indoor coverage and low data rates.
Femtocells are fully featured, short range mobile phone base stations used to complement mobile
phone services from larger macrocell towers. These range from very compact residential femtocells to
larger equipment used inside offices or public spaces. They offer excellent mobile phone coverage and
data speeds at all the places. Femtocells have been developed for 3G and also the newer 4G/LTE radio
technologies.

Subscriber Line ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there are certain issues to be handled but still the following major advantages can be listed:
a) compensates for poor cellular coverage inside the homes or small enterprise. b) Provides plug and
play feature thus providing the user with ease of installation and usage. c) Compact structure, that is
the Femtocell is actually the UTRAN in a box and offers all services through existing broadband
internet connection. d) Voice and data calls takes place through the secure IP Sec Tunnel thus offering
good quality of encryption and helps in securing the data. e) Helps in offloading the macro traffic and
cell phones automatically switch over to the Femtocell coverage when in range. f) Femtocells are
compatible with all 3GPP handheld devices and help improve the data speed and coverage in the areas
where there are slow speeds and poor coverage. g) Femtocells can not only work efficiently with the
existing network infrastructure by extending the cellular macro network but also can serve as primary
network if sufficient number of Femtocells are provided in the region thus reducing the number of
macrocells reducing equipment cost and complexity

The City s Housing Market
Location efficient neighborhoods, and employment and recreational opportunities in walking and
biking distances are attracting more and more people to reside in the downtown core. Studies show
that, since 1976, the residential population has doubled, with more than 240000 people living in the
Area and the ownership share has increased by almost two times since 1996 (City of Toronto. 2014b).
Accordingly, the City s housing market is dealing with more and more housing needs (CHBA, 2012;
Landau, 2013). Also, Toronto Official Plan identifies the Area, as a place to accommodate significant
population growth by 2041 (Ontario. Ministry of Finance, 2014). As a consequence, the value of land
in the Area is extensively increasing and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To overcome the limitations in land supply, a number of municipal and provincial policies and
programs have been initialized to redirect growth, intensification to the existing built up sites in the
Area. These policies promote transforming or conversion of brown field sites (formerly deteriorating
industrial and commercial sites) as well as improvement of the un /under utilized lands and buildings,
and at grade parking lots, for high/dense condominium developments (Pantalone, 2014). The City
permits the conversion through re zoning or re designating of land from one use to the other, which
also overcomes the density controls imposed on those lands. For example, employment or brownfield
lands to mixed use or residential developments (Lehrer Wieditz, 2009). The conversion of land from
one use to another requires an amendment to zoning bylaws and, sometimes, an amendment to the
municipal Official Plan. This conversion is possible when the developers make a S37 agreement,
Density Bonusing agreement with the City of Toronto. 5.1.4 Housing Affordability Issues The City of
Toronto is recognized for its highest market based economy and housing costs in the country
(Wellesley Institute, 2014). In a market based economy, the market decides the major share of
housing. Today, the market of housing is burgeoning on most expensive

Rock And Roll In The 1950 s
Did you know that the King of Rock himself, Elvis Presley, recorded over 600 songs, but he did not
write a single of them? Rock became popular in the 1950 s, it got their roots from 1940 s and 1950 s
its style which drew heavily on the African American genres of jazz, blues and rhythm and blues.
Musically, rock is centered around an electric guitar, electric bass, drums in one or more singer.
Typically, rock has a 4/4 time signature using verse to chorus form, but the genre has become very
diverse over the years.
The foundation of rock music are in rock and roll, which originated in the United States the late 1940
and early 1950 s and quickly spread to the rest of the world. Debate surrounds which record was the
first rock and roll record. The contenders were Goree Carter s Rock Awhile, Rocket 88 by Jackie
Brenston, and Jimmy Preston Rock the Joint. The first record to reach national popularity was Bill
Haley and the Comets Rock Around the Clock. Haley created music that appealed to the youth
because it s exciting back beat, its call to dance, and the actions of its lyrics. Haley succeeded in

wailing, and dynamic delivery appealed directly to young people while horrifying older people. Rock
N Roll became a financial success, record companies began to look for new singers.
At the turn of the decade Detroit became an important center for black singers and a certain type of

Spirometry Lab Report
The overarching goal of this experiment was to measure respiratory volumes and capacities using
spirometry (Marieb Smith, 2016). Spirometry is a technique which makes use of a device known as a
spirometer in order to determine values for inspiratory reserve volume, tidal volume, expiratory
reserve volume, as well as others, and thus has a practical use in the fields of anatomy and medicine
(Marieb Smith, 2016). Consequently, since this experiment deals extensively with the processes
involved in respiration, it is essential to have a sufficient level of background information on the
anatomy and physiology of the lungs (Marieb Smith, 2016).
The lungs are an essential part of the respiratory system, since their main purpose is to perform ...

Beginning with the inspiratory reserve volume, abbreviated as IRV, this value refers to how much air
one is able to actively inspire (Marieb Smith, 2016). This is followed by tidal volume, or TV, which is
the amount of air a person takes in and then expels in every breath under standard conditions (Marieb
Smith, 2016). The third value measured in this experiment was the expiratory reserve volume,
shortened to ERV, which denotes how much air one actively expires after breathing normally, or after
a tidal volume expiration (Marieb Smith, 2016). The final value was the total lung capacity, or TLC,
which refers to the total amount of air the lungs can hold after a having put in the maximum effort in
inspiration, and can also be calculated by the following formula: TLC=TV+IRV+ERV+RV (Marieb
Smith, 2016). RV, or residual volume, is how much air is left behind in the lungs after an active effort
to expire, and is noted to be around 1200mL or 1100mL for men and women, respectively (Marieb

The Role Of National Character And The Political Institutions
During the 1800s, the concept of national character was a subject of development and discussion,
especially in France. Many philosophers had an agreement in general that each nation was/had unique
characteristics, but there are many opinions as to what makes a national character. There was a lot of
focus on the spiritual and physical characteristics and their role in shaping the national traits. These
philosophers had a different perspective on the relationship between the national character and the
political institutions. The concept of national character expanded in its significance in regards to its
importance and complexity from a political standpoint. At the beginning of the 1800s, the national
character idea was viewed as a historical fact and towards the end, it was viewed as a current force of
politics that required some fostering to reforms. This led this idea to moving from the realm of
speculation to a more theoretical realm with a practical applicability. This paper is going to analyzing
the concept of national character from the implications on France in the 1800s and its perspective of
the French philosophers.
A national character is defined as an expression that gives a description of all forms of collective self
perception, conduct as well as collective self perception that are shared by the various individuals
inhabiting a modern nation state1. It demonstrates the issues of psychosocial and cultural homogeneity

The Relationship Between Self Determination And Academic...
A comparison between the characteristics of students with high self determination and risky outcomes
of students with learning disabilities and ADHD reveal a connection. On one hand, those with high
self determination show class engagement, motivation, and positive self esteem (Linnenbrink Garcia
Patall). On the other hand, those with disabilities show disengagement or dropout, demotivation or
amotivation, and low self esteem (American Psychological Association, 2013; Cortiella Horowitz,
2012). This suggests that students with disabilities may be showing deficits in self determination, as
they are displaying the opposite outcomes as those to be expected in students with high self
determination (i.e., low connectedness and low sense of belonging). Several studies have examined
levels of self determination, as well as factors that may lead to higher or lower self determination, in
samples of students with learning disabilities or ADHD. For example, a study by Zheng, Erickson,
Kingston, and Noonan (2012) examined the relationship between self determination and academic
achievement, concluding that differing levels of self determination could be used as a reliable
predictor for achievement in students with learning disabilities. Additionally, a study by Field, Sarver,
and Shaw (2003) found that several environmental factors may contribute to students development of
self determination in special education classrooms. One major factor they found was referred to as

Comparing Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet; a classic tragedy of two lovers who cannot be together due to circumstances beyond
their control. The story has been done by various movies, many of which change certain aspects in an
attempt to breathe new life into this age old tale. In 1996, Director Baz Luhrman took the story and
placed it in a modern setting where the two rival families are mafia families. This sounds like an
interesting take on the story and it certainly was, but the movie turned out as a complete mess. The
soundtrack is boring in every possible way. Almost every song is completely generic and forgettable
and the ones that do stick out by any measure still fail to attain my interest for very long. Although the
cinematography and editing was good for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For one, it remained mostly faithful the original work with some minor and somewhat humorous
changes to better fit the modern setting. The dialogue was even left almost exactly how it was written
by Shakespeare all those years ago, which was amusing at times, but it always sounded out of place.
The acting was by far the best part of the whole movie. Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo and Claire
Danes as Juliet played their parts to the best of their abilities and the best moments of the movie were
when they were the only two in the scene. The others also played their parts well and if not for the
outdated feel of the dialogue, it would almost seem as though all of it was something that had actually
happened. If you are considering showing this to anyone studying Romeo and Juliet, you would be
better off showing them any other movie. Students will not learn anything at all about the story by
watching this as opposed to any other film adaptation. Although the movie remains somewhat faithful
to the original Romeo and Juliet while adding an interesting twist to the story, there is almost no
educational value to the movie. It is very likely that students will not understand most of what is going
on here either because the story was not presented well, or because they are unable to take it

Slavery And Colonial Rule During Colonialism
Slavery and Colonial Rule
During the years of European colonialism in Africa, slavery was used as the main source of labor for
various colonial projects. Slaves worked on various levels of service to the colonial powers, especially
the French. These include working on plantations and military service. Even though the French and
the British were profiting from the labor and oppression of Africans, they soon faced opposition for
their use of slavery as a tool for economic gain. In this essay, I will explain these elements of slavery
in colonial rule, by detailing information from Martin Klein s Slavery and Colonial Rule in French
West Africa, and Trevor Getz s Slavery and Reform in West Africa. Klein discusses the status of the
slave and the history of mistreatment by Europeans. He focuses on the time when the Portuguese came
to Senegambia during the 1600s. It was during this time that slave labor was being used to feed the
courts of coastal kings as it was used in the medieval empires of the interior. These slaves were enemy
combatants, who were captured and sentenced to work as punishment. The author mentioned that
slaves during this period did not have rights or an official identity. Many of them faced many forms of
persecution and mistreatment. By the time the French had take over, slaves were to be punished by
having the master make them sleep in irons, but if they accepted their status, their condition was
ameliorated. As time passed, and as other markets became

Bourgeoisie Vs Proletariat Analysis
Marx identified two social classes which are the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. The bourgeoisie
owned the product, and the means of production are distribution and the profit. Then, there is the
proletariat also known as laborers these are the people that typically did not have the resources to
invest in mass production. The only thing they could sell was their labor. Marx was a staunch
supporter of the proletariat. He believed that the proletariat gains let up last much in a capitalist
system, and all the bourgeoisie benefited a great deal. He thought that the proletariat would eventually
overthrow the bourgeoisie, and a new economic system would create. Marx believed that society
needed a better means of distributing wealth but also a better way of tapping into a full human
potential. According to Marx what we do is directly connected to ... Show more content on

The world of capitalism puts people in positions of competition. Therefore, everyone looks out for
themselves. A labor competes with others for higher wages, better hours and the best benefits for their
good and not for the best interest of the group. There is little to no concern about a collective common
good or a sense of cooperation.
The last type of alienation is alienation from oneself. Alienation from oneself grabs a person of all
they can be and contribute to the world. Marx believed that what we contribute to the world in terms
ever work is part of our species essence or what makes us human. What we contribute to the world is a
manifestation of our creativity and creativity is an essential part of our human nature and our base

14th Amendment and the Citizenship Clause
Before the 14th Amendment was enacted, each State had the right to determine the citizenship of
children born within its borders; anyone who became a citizen of any State was automatically a citizen

The Coffee Crisis

To begin, The Coffee Crisis is about an acute coffee crisis and how it threatens millions of small
coffee farmers around the world and is putting economic growth, as well as social and political
stability, at risk in scores of coffee producing countries in Central and South America, Africa and Asia.
In 2004, the governments of coffee producing countries were considering how to respond to the
dramatic decline in coffee prices caused in part by a large increase in coffee production in Brazil and
Vietnam. Coffee was the main source of income for roughly 25 million farmers, mostly small land
holders, in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Coffee prices had hit 40 year lows in 2001 and had

The crisis in the coffee sector continues. Its impact cannot be understated, since coffee constitutes the
livelihood of an estimated 25 million families around the world. In world trade, coffee is the second
leading commodity, after petroleum. The worldwide coffee market spans some 71 countries, of which
51 are significant producers and 20 are key consumers. Prices have not kept up with production costs
to the extent needed to make participation in the coffee business profitable for most producers, even
though the crop year 2003 2004 witnessed a worldwide decrease in production. (Central America The
Coffee Crisis: Effects and Strategies for Moving Forward, 1992) In coffee producing countries, which
account for over 26% of world consumption, the situation is more diverse. In some countries, prices of
coffee have fallen in local currency and consumption may therefore be stimulated. In Brazil, the
largest coffee market among producing countries, the devaluation of the real has maintained prices of
green coffee at pre crisis levels. As a whole, consumption in these markets is not expected to suffer
any major negative impact. The root cause of the coffee crisis can be linked to three factors: over
production; under consumption; and market oligopoly. In short, these are all problems associated with
the economics of coffee farming. Without resolution, they will lead to both social and environmental
breakdowns. (Central America The

The book Lord of the Flies by William Golding uses allegory to convey its theme. How does he use
allegory to convey the themes within the book? In the book, he uses objects and some of the stranded
boys to illustrate the many themes that he had creatively woven into the book. Along with telling a
story about boys that were stranded on an island, he creatively sent out an important message through
allegory. In the book Lord of the Flies, Golding uses allegory to convey his themes, and one of the
allegory used was a signal fire. The signal fire represents a measurement of strength of civilized
instinct the island had left. The signal fire was one of the boy s last chances to survive. The fire itself
had represented the hope of rescue while also representing destruction on the island as well. When the

The conch had become a powerful symbol of order on the island. The conch would be used to call all
the boys to an assembly and would allow those in possession of it to speak, free of any interruptions.
Progressively, the boys had slowly lost their sense of civilization and the conch ultimately lost its
powerful influence among the boys. As Jack and his group decided the keep hunting, the shell became
a worthless object to their group due to their life of savagery. The conch shell met its untimely death
when Piggy, who was holding the conch shell, was run over by a boulder, shattering the conch shell in
the process. Once the conch shell was crushed, all power that the conch shell had once bestowed was
lost, and the only symbol of peace and order on the island was gone. The theme civilization vs
savagery was shown since the loss of civilization to a life of savagery was shown once all order was
lost due to the untimely demise of the only symbol of peace and order was destroyed, leaving a bunch
of savages to run free on the island, free of

Augustus Univided Leadership
Another subsequent source that helps debunk the theory of Augustus undivided leadership is from Dio
Cassius s Roman History. This is principally accomplished as Cassius Dio, like Tacitus, mainly
focusses on Augustus s single minded need for power in relation to the rights granted by a high
majority of the people and the senate. However despite this, Cassius Dio declares that, Caesar himself
was destined to have absolute control of all matters for all time, because he was not only master of the
funds but also commanded the soldiers... Through this declaration provided by Cassius Dio, it can be
interpreted that through becoming a part of the military command Augustus could immediately have
access to power as there was a high amount of money

The Vaccine Of Autism Connection
The Vaccine to Autism Connection
It is amazing how much Americans trust doctors and more shocking, vaccines. Vaccines are injections
we receive from the moment we are born and throughout our lives that are meant to keep our bodies
from contracting various. A baby born in a hospital today can be given up to six shots before the
mother is even in a place where she can conciously tell the doctor whether she is okay with that or not.
It can take years to become aware of, but the early exposure to the unnatural substances that make up
vaccines can lead to a disorder called autism. While many
Americans view vaccines positively for their adequate ability to prevent illness, the rise of autism in
the nation and its link to vaccines is reason enough to try to change our tactics for trying to stay
healthy.
Autism is a developmental disorder with symptoms including defects in coordination and motor skills,
visual disturbances, and immune suppression. What researchers like Larry Trivieri
Jr. have realized over the last decade is these symptoms are extremely similar to the effects of mercury
poisoning. Mercury makes up 50% of Thimersal, a preservative found in vaccines; The increases in
the occurrence of autism are closely linked to the widespread use of thimersalcontaining vaccines,
says Trivieri. While the possible link between autism and vaccines is clear, the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) claim there is no link but have yet to thoroughly investigate the issue

Essay On Ancient Roman Weapons
Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome Gateway Project
Mike S.
Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome weapons, imagine this: out in the field of war, fighting your fiercest
enemy yet, the Ancient Romans, as the Ancient Egyptians you would fear them, large catapults, strong
bows, and armed chariots.
These are some facts about Ancient Egypt.
Ancient Egypt did not have strong weapons, they had wooden bows, copper swords, and horrible
metalworking, they stole the sickle sword from the hyksos, now you may think that metalworking and
copper swords are the same thing but, when they learned how to make chariots they used iron axles

They created the cannon from the slingshot. They always hit a target, when they shot their huge
weapons these were devastating blows.
The Ancient Romans built a wall over 2000 years ago out of wood, this is one of the oldest structures
in Ancient Rome. They got a huge advantage over other countries with the wall. A tower every 800
meters (0.49709695 Miles) away. This wall is easily burned as it was made of wooden stakes. Ancient
Romans had cavalry (Soldiers who fought on horseback) they wore mail or scale armor.
The similarities:
Ancient Egypt And Ancient Rome both had hand slings this used rocks instead of arrows in them.
They both had very strong armor to wear. They had spears and javelins to throw. They both had war
gods that helped them in the battles that they fought.
The differences:
Different helmet types to cover the head. Different battle crests to show the spirit of the troops. All
people battled differently this allowed them to A. surprise or B. fight not flee.
They also all had different battle cries (Going into war, winning the war, taking down an enemy) all
different.

A Wrinkle In Time
Thesis Paper
Draft 1
Good and Evil are just a point of view. This quote means, that good and evil are just something a
person believes, or looks at another person. You could think a person is evil, or you could think he/she
is good, by their behaviour and nature. This thesis paper will show you that it is a point of view. It
includes sources, primarily from the book, A Wrinkle In Time . Some other sources are Ramayan , A
Mauryan Adventure and Wonder .
Starting off with the first source, A Wrinkle In Time . This is the primary source, as the statement
arose from this book. From the chapter, IT , it was seen that IT , thought by controlling the people of
Camazotz, he was doing the right thing. Whereas, others didn t think so. This ... Show more content

This comes from the book, The Ramyana , by Ralph T. H. Griffith. On page 884 885, he says that
Lakshmana cut of the nose of Ravana s sister, Surpnakha. To take revenge, Ravana thought by
kidnapping Sita and making Rama and Lakshmana pay for their doings, he was doing the right thing.
The whole of Ayodhya, though, thought he was being evil by kidnapping Sita. This means that, from a
point of view, taking revenge, on someone, is good. From a different point of view, a revenge an be an
evil thing to commit to.
This leads us to our third secondary source, from the book, A Mauryan Adventure by Subadhra Sen
Gupta. Kamalika and Kartik think of killing the king to take revenge of his father as the king didn t
care of his father s death. Kartik s sister Madhura stops him from doing such an evil thing. This again
shows that there are different points of view on good and evil. Kartik thinks it is good, but Madhura
thinks it s evil. This shows good and evil are just a point of view.
To conclude, you can say that good and evil are just a point of view, a mere shadow, as of the many
reason shown in various books. Although all of these may be fictional or mythical, they all implement
the same thing; true life. You can find these in everyday occourances, all the fights you had or will

Dbq Bound Man
Tollund Man is a 2400 year old naturally mummified body that was discovered in 1950 in a danish
bog. Tollund Man was most likely a low class slave from the Iron Age, who was killed as a result of
being hung by a rope noose, because he believed in another god than his community, which suggested
he was rebelling against his own community. According to Source A, the Danish police report, Tollund
Man wore an iron neck ring, which was typically what slaves wore during the Iron Age. Furthermore,
Tollund Man was found with no clothes on, which indicates that he might have been immensely poor.
We could infer that the Tollund Man, therefore, was most likely a slave due to the fact that he was
found with no clothes on and with an iron neck drawn tight

Impact of Urban Renewal on the Sydney Suburb of Pyrmont
Analyse the impact of urban renewal on the Sydney suburb of Pyrmont.
The suburb of Pyrmont on the shores of Sydney Harbour has been transformed by the processes of
urban renewal into a thriving cosmopolitan residential area, an efficient and sophisticated business
centre, and a popular recreational and tourist hub. Through my own observation of the Pyrmont area, I
have seen how the painstaking urban planning efforts for the area have come to fruition, and a focal
point of the Harbour foreshore created as a result of this. Pyrmont was established as a suburb of the
city of Sydney in 1806, and since then has undergone several periods of dramatic change, in a boom

As well as residential and industrial use, Pyrmont was a recreational area almost as much in its early

After this initial flourish of Pyrmont in manufacturing, production, trade and freight, the area
experienced the effects of urban decay, as Sydney moved on into the 20th century and spatial patterns

of much heavy industry away from such close proximity to the city centre, with major factories and

Managing Resistance to Organizational Change Essay
In the course of considering and implementing change, the need frequently arises for effective
application of the approaches and tools for managing resistance to change (Palmer, Dunford, Akin,
2009). Change often fails from ineffective management of the internal and external forces of
resistance opposing change (Kotter Schlesinger, 2008; Oreg, 2003; Palmer et al., 2009). In response,
this paper discusses the approaches (tools) deemed most essential for managing resistance to change
relative to the scope of the situational contexts in which they might be applied. The discussion centers
on considerations for the multidimensional conceptualizations of resistance that are often ignored in
evaluating alternatives for taking action. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Piderit (2000), each of these components contributes to an individual s disposition to
resist or support change, which can range along a continuum from strong opposition to ambivalence to
strong support. Oreg (2003) characterizes behavioral responses to change in terms of the perceived
degrees of fairness of both change outcomes (distributive justice) and the change process (procedural
justice), as mediated by differences in personality traits and contextual elements such as self efficacy,
tolerance for change, and social influence. Further conceptualizations of the multidimensional nature
and scope of resistance are captured in goal regulation theory (Meyer, Becker, Vandenberghe, 2004),
which is grounded in theories related to regulatory focus (Higgins, 2002) and self determination (Deci
Ryan, 2008; Gagné Deci, 2005). This integrated theory characterizes varying levels and polarity of
behavioral responses to change relative to affective, normative, or continuance forms of motivation
and commitment. The variation in behavioral responses when plotted on continuums of
intrinsic/extrinsic motivation, internal/external locus of causality, and prevention/promotion focused
regulation reflects the degree to which basic psychological needs of autonomy, competency, and
relatedness are realized during the change

Biobottle Lab Report
Biobottle Write up In the biobottle experiment, the purpose was to create a closed ecosystem,

world throughout a period of six weeks. For the procedure, the ecosystem was to be observed over this
time. The experiment began when a one quart mason jar with its contents was sealed on October 7,
2015. In the beginning of the experiment, the known contents of the jar and initial rationales behind
them (italicized) included: ● Water from the middle pond filled to the 600 mL mark of the jar (about
550 mL): the environment for the aquatic ecosystem with enough room for gases at the surface ● Pond
mud filled approximately halfway between the bottom and 100 mL mark of the jar: source of nitrogen

One cycle that was visually observed was the water cycle. Shown in the Amount of and Condensation
Size graph on page two, a specific cycle was seen. At the times of the high density of droplets, most of
the time the condensation was much like a mist, having just evaporated and not yet condensed.
However, as it condensed, there were fewer droplets. As the droplets got bigger, they would rain down
in the jar as precipitation due to gravity. Then, the cycle repeated, as shown by the graph. Another
cycle that must have been in the jar for life to survive was the carbon and oxygen cycle. In order for
the organisms to access new oxygen after the initial air was trapped in the jar, producers supplied the
animals with oxygen, seen as bubbles in the algae throughout the observation period. In addition,
since the algae survived and appeared to have grown, the organisms must have been supplying the
producers with their necessary carbon

Criminal Justice System In 12 Angry Men
Many important topics and integral information that is an essential part in the criminal justice system
have been introduced in the play 12 Angry Men . Some examples of this would be crime and justice
including the laws, criminal behavior, victimization, and the criminal justice system in itself. These
issues are everyday situations but many people have been oblivious to the problem. The twelve jurors
have an assignment where they will have to decide whether or not the young man on trial is guilty of
murdering his father or is innocent beyond a reasonable doubt. All twelve men are frustrated and lack
patience which lead them to be contumacious and unfocused. Their distraction led to many key facts
getting misemployed and emotions start to cross making it hard for the jurors to construct a resolution.
They have been oblivious to the effect that it would have on the community itself. On the information
given up to this point this process essay will articulate the unenlightenment and egomaniacal
principles of the twelve men in the short story and movie Twelve Angry Men written by Reginald
Rose and directed by Sidney Lumet. Both Lumet and Rose showed their point of views of the criminal
justice system in the play and the movie. Although the director s view on the justice system
demonstrated the rights that everyone had, it also revealed his thoughts on how the justice system is
corrupt, ineffective and unjust because all these aspects have shown the major differences in the
morality of the twelve individuals and the problem at hand in the movie and play 12 Angry Men .
The movie 12 Angry Men denotes how the most seemingly trivial facts and evidence can affect the
aftermath in a brobdingnagian way if not processed thoroughly. In the movie you have twelve jurors,
all from different backgrounds and with different personalities. But one wise and optimistic juror
speaks his opinion, one that doesn t make a big difference in the beginning but opens the minds of the
other eleven jurors as time goes by. He expresses the facts and evidence that was discussed during the
young man s trial. He had said I want to try this thing. Let me see how long it took him. I m going to
pace off twelve feet... . (Rose 40) Juror number

Essay On Interracial Dating
Interracial and Cross Cultural Dating of Generation Y Interracial romance has been an issue in the
United States since the first English settlers established colonies during the seventeenth century. Over
the years, views toward interracial relationships in America have changed greatly. The interracial
dating trend among today s teenagers is increasing at a steady rate (Grapes 49). However, there are
still many biases facing Gen Y youth who choose to date someone of another race. A look at the
history of interracial romance in the United States will shed light on today s attitudes.
In the 1600s, Maryland banned interracial relationships between whites and slaves due to the
questions over whether the offspring would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On one occasion, the man was mobbed and nearly lost his life (Landau 3).
Even decades later, white society seemed determined to prevent interracial romances in most
instances. A variety of obstacles were used to prohibit these relationships. Many social scientists in the
past focused on the supposed pathological aspects of the interracial relationship, and they assumed
that anyone involved in such a relationship must be disturbed in some way. In one case, a young white
woman s grandmother had her placed in a mental institution after the young woman announced her
engagement to an African American (Landau 5). When a young black man named Leroy Gardner
enrolled in Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1943, he had to sign a formal agreement
promising not to socialize with the white females on campus. Social scientists have observed many
justifications for black white relationships, such as the need to rebel against parents or society; a
passion for the exotic or forbidden fruit, the blacks desire to get even with the dominant culture, or
whites desire to atone for past racism (Majete 10).
In 1967, Loving v. Virginia cleared all legal barriers to interracial marriages and relationships. This
legislation made it legal to marry interracially, but many people weren t willing to accept these
relationships. For instance, in 1994 a white principal named Hulond Humphries caused uproar at
Teaneck High in Wedowee, Alabama that caught the

My Professional Development Plan Is Directed Towards...
My personal professional development plan is directed towards helping me become a better teacher to
help students learn and reach their full potential. The skills I am working on to be a better teacher
include, better time management, communication, and having a stronger teacher voice. I plan to work
on these goals throughout my time at York College of Pennsylvania and achieve them by the time I
have completed my student teaching, which will be in three years. If I feel a goal has been achieved
before I complete my student teaching, I plan to add a new goal, while still focusing on my previous
goals to make them even stronger qualities.
My first skill is to have better time management. As of now, I feel I do have strong time management
when dealing with arriving early and planning my day out efficiently. I do have trouble with staying in
the projected time frame during lessons. For example, if I have thirty minutes to teach a lesson, I may
take thirty five to forty minutes. Typically, this is due to introduction of my lesson. I believe students
need to grasp the concept in the beginning of the lesson to be able to build off of the information and
complete activities on their own without the help of other students or myself.
Like I said, as of now, I do have fair time management skills, but they certainly need improvement.
My goal is to be able to plan lessons and keep them in the projected time frame; this includes being
within 2 minutes under or over.

Cognitive Theories Of Cognitive Behavioral Theories
Cognitive behavioral theories theorize that human behavior is caused by internal or mental events, and
in addition to external events proposed by behavioral theories. Research suggests that cognitive
behavioral theories have shifted their focus, as seen in the first, second, and third waves of the
theories. For example, initially the focus of cognitive theories was on identifying and changing
maladaptive thoughts. However, recent models of cognitive theories seek to help people evaluate, and
change their thoughts, beliefs, and assumptions. In addition, these newer models of cognitive
behavioral theories seek to help clients understand the interactional nature of their thoughts and
behaviors (Jones Butman, 2012). Conversely, at the core of cognitive behavioral theories is the
assumption that human behavior is affected by cognitive activities. In addition, cognitive behavioral
therapists theorize that human behavior can be monitored and altered, and also human behavior can be
changed through rational change (Hersen Gross, 2008). Philosophical Assumptions Studies show that
cognitive behavioral theories do not have explicit philosophical assumption. However, concepts of
cognitive behavioral theory are associated with assumptions from a critical rationalism standpoint. At
the core of critical rationalism is the belief that knowledge is only gained by falsifying hypotheses
derived from scientific theories. Overall, knowledge is seen as objective and not subjective.

Persuasive Essay On Sexually Transmitted Disease
Something in life I never enjoy is role play. Something about it annoys me which makes it much more
difficult to do. Especially when writing out a conversation. Since I m going at it again I will definitely
be putting some thought into this, so here I go. If my partner asked me about STDs, it wouldn t be just
one question. I would expect to be bombarded with questions. If my mysterious partner was to start it
would be along the lines of I m starting to have certain symptoms, should I be tested? I would then
ask, what do you think you have? If an STD is a possibility, there would be many more questions after
that. She would then ask things like what are the risks, do I have to get tested, what are the chances I
have it? Well, there are many risks when it comes to Sexually transmitted diseases. STDS range from
harmless to dangerous, temporary to permanent, and not contagious to contagious. You never have to
get tested, but never knowing is gambling with the quality of your life and maybe even others. If you
do have something that could be spread, the last thing you actually want to do is spread the disease. It
is always highly recommended that you be tested for sexually transmitted diseases every year. Even
when you aren t sexually active it is recommended that you get tested and if you are found to have a
serious disease, spreading the STD with knowledge of a diagnosis is punishable by law and should
never be done. Sexually transmitted diseases are easily passed between people from contact and not
just sexual contact either. They can be passed through blood and saliva from intercourse, kissing,
contact with blood in open wounds, sharing needles, or any other way that could possibly bring bodily
fluids into contact with your own body. So even if you are not sexually active during that time or even
if you have never had sex. It is always recommended to be tested because you never know what you
have come in contact with. She then would probably ask me well how common are STDs and what
STDs are most seen? I would say that sexually transmitted diseases are very common among the
population more common than one might think. According to certain studies, more than sixty five
million people are currently

The Transmogrification of Venus to Mary in the Works of...
The works of Sandro Botticelli are among the most revered of renaissance painting. The sweeping
curves of his women and the ethereal beauty of their gazes are recognized instantaneously: from a
grandmother in a small town to the cognoscenti of New York or Paris, few can claim to be unmoved
by his work. Patronized by the Vatican as well as one of the most rich and powerful Florentines of his
time, Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de Medici, Botticelli was hugely popular in his own day. His most
magnificent work, the Primavera, as well as The Birth of Venus, Camilla and the Centaur, and Mars
and Venus contain entirely mythological figures whose significances have been debated by various art
historians for centuries. Born as Alessandro di ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you were to unite with her in wedlock and claim her as yours, she would make all your years sweet
(Hartt and Wilkins 378). This passage could have countless connotations. The one that seems to make
the most sense is that Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de Medici, upon the news of his upcoming marriage to
Semiramide d Appiano, asked Botticelli to paint the Primavera using the figures that he did because
they held a strong meaning for him since he received the aforementioned letter (Venturi 72). The way
Venus is used in this picture along with the Three Graces, Mercury, Cupid, The Zephyr and Flora has
mounds upon mounds of meanings. It is truly Neo Platonic. There are so many meanings, that if taken
out of context, Venus could mean anything from lust to ideal beauty, to being the Goddess of April and
gardens, along with Flora (Dempsey 260 261). If it is to be a gift to the bride or the married couple, it
could suggest fertility being ushered in through Flora by way of Zephyr s actions. It could also be that
the picture is showing the bride certain virtues she must possess through the Three Graces and a
virginal, pure looking, wedding veiled Venus (see figure 2). The fact that there are, blossoming off of
the orange trees, ripe sumptuous fruits is congruent with the fertility theme as well as the fact that
oranges are part of the Medici coat of arms (Hartt and Watkins 379). Or is could be all of these ideas

  • 2. The Native American Indian Population The population that has been officially chosen is the Native American population, also known as American Indian. Aside from the information given by this course, a Children s Literature class taken at the Newark branch of the Ohio State University also contributed to my decision. During a lecture there was a guest speaker of Native American descent, she grew up on a reservation, and in her work she wrote and illustrated the Native American culture and lifestyle. Her lecture consisted of the perspective of the Native American population during colonization, and now, as well as the misconceptions of the population and discussed a council that allows the American Indian community to be aware of the number of tribes, the number of individuals within each tribe, and locations of various tribes. The essay will consist of the history of the American Indian population, current statistics, news within the last six months pertaining to the population, and links and resources will be provided. The class textbook, Strangers to These Shores 11th Edition by Vincent N. Parrillo, is the main resource utilized for historical information on the American Indian population. The book provides information on pre colonization, stereotypes, government policies, current affects from colonization and statistics. According to the class textbook, before colonization the Native American population was between six and ten million (Parrillo 2014). Moreover, American Indians have culture rich in art, ... • 3. History of Nanking Massacre Despite having the horrific Nanking Massacre occur 70 years ago, its history is barely buried like many of the dead were at the time. The Nanking Massacre (also known as the Rape of Nanking) occurred as a part of the 2nd Sino Japanese War, which would then become part of World War II. This war involved the Republic of China defending against the invading Japanese forces. Unfortunately, China was weakened due to a civil war between the Communists and the Nationalists, so it was easily invaded. The Nanking Massacre shows the negative elements of Human Nature and should be taught in schools because it portrays the brutality of the Japanese in Asia. The Rape of Nanking started on December 13, 1937. This was the day the Japanese invaded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is estimated from 150,000 to 300,000 people were killed during the seven week period. The Rape of Nanking shows the negative elements of humanity by portraying how the Japanese were relentless at their tactics toward the civilians. The people of Nanking were at their mercy at all times and any violation meant instant death. The Japanese soldiers acted without any discipline, chivalry, or honor, which were what the original bushido code had strived for. The massacre is significant because it would pave the way for the future of any relations between China and Japan. Their relationship is very strained already because Japan has not issued a mutually accepted apology for its war crimes (Yew). Neither country is willing to give in due to denial in Japan and anger in China (Yew). The Nanking Massacre should be taught in schools alongside the Holocaust because even though the Holocaust was extermination, both of these tragic events show hatred at its core: Nazis against the Jews and the Japanese against the Chinese. This event displayed that each gruesome mass killing, does not highlight, but instead blurs the distinctions between us (Yew). Japanese troops were trained to believe the Chinese were inferior to them, therefore they must be killed. Similarly, the Nazis were trained to believe the Jews were inferior. The Nanking Massacre also showed how no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Play Of Louis De Rougemont The title of the play that I saw was Shipwrecked! An Entertainment: The Amazing Adventures of Louis De Rougemont (As told by Himself.) Donald Margulies is the playwright of this play. Arthur Grothe directed the show that I saw and where the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire performed it. The play took place at the Riverside Theater in Haas Fine Arts Center. The play would be considered an action drama, one that was filled with almost every emotion, but the main genre would be action. Overall, the major themes of this play were the stories of Louis De Rougemont, the incredible tales that went on to be proven that they were too good to be true. This play s setting takes place in 19th century London. The minor themes of this play were mental illness and their affects and love. In the audience, it is hard not to fall in love with Louis De Rougemont and his tale. This play is very clear who the protagonist is. The protagonist is Louis De Rougemont. Louis is a boy who is shut in by his mother, he is not allowed to see the world, and in fact the only thing he sees is his bed. However, it is his imagination that helps him get through these days. He imagines the stories his mother tells him with vivid descriptions, so much so that he believes he is destine for a life at sea after hearing many stories about it. His goal is leave his home and set out to sail for Australia. However, he has never seen the world, he has only spent sixteen years of his life inside aided by his mother. ... The City s Housing Market Location efficient neighborhoods, and employment and recreational opportunities in walking and biking distances are attracting more and more people to reside in the downtown core. Studies show that, since 1976, the residential population has doubled, with more than 240000 people living in the Area and the ownership share has increased by almost two times since 1996 (City of Toronto. 2014b). Accordingly, the City s housing market is dealing with more and more housing needs (CHBA, 2012; Landau, 2013). To overcome the limitations in land supply, a number of municipal and provincial policies and programs have been initialized to redirect growth, intensification to the existing built up sites in the Area. These policies promote transforming or conversion of brown field sites (formerly deteriorating industrial and commercial sites) as well as improvement of the un /under utilized lands and buildings, and at grade parking lots, for high/dense condominium developments (Pantalone, 2014). The City permits the conversion through re zoning or re designating of land from one use to the other, which also overcomes the density controls imposed on those lands. For example, employment or brownfield lands to mixed use or residential developments (Lehrer Wieditz, 2009). The conversion of land from one use to another requires an amendment to zoning bylaws and, sometimes, an amendment to the municipal Official Plan. This conversion is possible when the developers make a S37 agreement, Density Bonusing agreement with the City of Toronto. 5.1.4 Housing Affordability Issues The City of Toronto is recognized for its highest market based economy and housing costs in the country (Wellesley Institute, 2014). Spirometry is a technique which makes use of a device known as a spirometer in order to determine values for inspiratory reserve volume, tidal volume, expiratory reserve volume, as well as others, and thus has a practical use in the fields of anatomy and medicine (Marieb Smith, 2016). Consequently, since this experiment deals extensively with the processes involved in respiration, it is essential to have a sufficient level of background information on the anatomy and physiology of the lungs (Marieb Smith, 2016). Beginning with the inspiratory reserve volume, abbreviated as IRV, this value refers to how much air one is able to actively inspire (Marieb Smith, 2016). The third value measured in this experiment was the expiratory reserve volume, shortened to ERV, which denotes how much air one actively expires after breathing normally, or after a tidal volume expiration (Marieb Smith, 2016). The final value was the total lung capacity, or TLC, which refers to the total amount of air the lungs can hold after a having put in the maximum effort in inspiration, and can also be calculated by the following formula: TLC=TV+IRV+ERV+RV (Marieb Smith, 2016). • 10. The Role Of National Character And The Political Institutions During the 1800s, the concept of national character was a subject of development and discussion, especially in France. Many philosophers had an agreement in general that each nation was/had unique characteristics, but there are many opinions as to what makes a national character. There was a lot of focus on the spiritual and physical characteristics and their role in shaping the national traits. These philosophers had a different perspective on the relationship between the national character and the political institutions. The concept of national character expanded in its significance in regards to its importance and complexity from a political standpoint. At the beginning of the 1800s, the national character idea was viewed as a historical fact and towards the end, it was viewed as a current force of politics that required some fostering to reforms. This led this idea to moving from the realm of speculation to a more theoretical realm with a practical applicability. This paper is going to analyzing the concept of national character from the implications on France in the 1800s and its perspective of the French philosophers. • 11. The Relationship Between Self Determination And Academic... A comparison between the characteristics of students with high self determination and risky outcomes of students with learning disabilities and ADHD reveal a connection. On one hand, those with high self determination show class engagement, motivation, and positive self esteem (Linnenbrink Garcia Patall). On the other hand, those with disabilities show disengagement or dropout, demotivation or amotivation, and low self esteem (American Psychological Association, 2013; Cortiella Horowitz, 2012). This suggests that students with disabilities may be showing deficits in self determination, as they are displaying the opposite outcomes as those to be expected in students with high self determination (i.e., low connectedness and low sense of belonging). Several studies have examined levels of self determination, as well as factors that may lead to higher or lower self determination, in samples of students with learning disabilities or ADHD. For example, a study by Zheng, Erickson, Kingston, and Noonan (2012) examined the relationship between self determination and academic achievement, concluding that differing levels of self determination could be used as a reliable predictor for achievement in students with learning disabilities. Additionally, a study by Field, Sarver, and Shaw (2003) found that several environmental factors may contribute to students development of self determination in special education classrooms. The dialogue was even left almost exactly how it was written by Shakespeare all those years ago, which was amusing at times, but it always sounded out of place. Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo and Claire Danes as Juliet played their parts to the best of their abilities and the best moments of the movie were when they were the only two in the scene. The others also played their parts well and if not for the outdated feel of the dialogue, it would almost seem as though all of it was something that had actually happened. If you are considering showing this to anyone studying Romeo and Juliet, you would be better off showing them any other movie. Students will not learn anything at all about the story by watching this as opposed to any other film adaptation. • 14. Slavery And Colonial Rule During Colonialism Slavery and Colonial Rule During the years of European colonialism in Africa, slavery was used as the main source of labor for various colonial projects. Slaves worked on various levels of service to the colonial powers, especially the French. These include working on plantations and military service. Even though the French and the British were profiting from the labor and oppression of Africans, they soon faced opposition for their use of slavery as a tool for economic gain. In this essay, I will explain these elements of slavery in colonial rule, by detailing information from Martin Klein s Slavery and Colonial Rule in French West Africa, and Trevor Getz s Slavery and Reform in West Africa. Klein discusses the status of the slave and the history of mistreatment by Europeans. He focuses on the time when the Portuguese came to Senegambia during the 1600s. It was during this time that slave labor was being used to feed the courts of coastal kings as it was used in the medieval empires of the interior. These slaves were enemy combatants, who were captured and sentenced to work as punishment. The author mentioned that slaves during this period did not have rights or an official identity. Many of them faced many forms of persecution and mistreatment. By the time the French had take over, slaves were to be punished by having the master make them sleep in irons, but if they accepted their status, their condition was ameliorated. Change often fails from ineffective management of the internal and external forces of resistance opposing change (Kotter Schlesinger, 2008; Oreg, 2003; Palmer et al., 2009). In response, this paper discusses the approaches (tools) deemed most essential for managing resistance to change relative to the scope of the situational contexts in which they might be applied. The discussion centers on considerations for the multidimensional conceptualizations of resistance that are often ignored in evaluating alternatives for taking action. ... According to Piderit (2000), each of these components contributes to an individual s disposition to resist or support change, which can range along a continuum from strong opposition to ambivalence to strong support. Oreg (2003) characterizes behavioral responses to change in terms of the perceived degrees of fairness of both change outcomes (distributive justice) and the change process (procedural justice), as mediated by differences in personality traits and contextual elements such as self efficacy, tolerance for change, and social influence. Further conceptualizations of the multidimensional nature and scope of resistance are captured in goal regulation theory (Meyer, Becker, Vandenberghe, 2004), which is grounded in theories related to regulatory focus (Higgins, 2002) and self determination (Deci Ryan, 2008; Gagné Deci, 2005). This integrated theory characterizes varying levels and polarity of behavioral responses to change relative to affective, normative, or continuance forms of motivation and commitment. The variation in behavioral responses when plotted on continuums of intrinsic/extrinsic motivation, internal/external locus of causality, and prevention/promotion focused regulation reflects the degree to which basic psychological needs of autonomy, competency, and relatedness are realized during the change ... • 30. Biobottle Lab Report Biobottle Write up In the biobottle experiment, the purpose was to create a closed ecosystem, containing biotic and abiotic factors, which aimed to sustain life without contact with the outside world throughout a period of six weeks. For the procedure, the ecosystem was to be observed over this time. The experiment began when a one quart mason jar with its contents was sealed on October 7, 2015. In the beginning of the experiment, the known contents of the jar and initial rationales behind them (italicized) included: ● Water from the middle pond filled to the 600 mL mark of the jar (about 550 mL): the environment for the aquatic ecosystem with enough room for gases at the surface ● Pond mud filled approximately halfway between the bottom and 100 mL mark of the jar: source of nitrogen and miscellaneous organisms ● 2 small sandstones: phosphorus used for phosphorus cycle ● 1 stick: for animals to use for movement ● 1 leaf: nitrogen; it ... At the times of the high density of droplets, most of the time the condensation was much like a mist, having just evaporated and not yet condensed. However, as it condensed, there were fewer droplets. As the droplets got bigger, they would rain down in the jar as precipitation due to gravity. Then, the cycle repeated, as shown by the graph. Another cycle that must have been in the jar for life to survive was the carbon and oxygen cycle. In order for the organisms to access new oxygen after the initial air was trapped in the jar, producers supplied the animals with oxygen, seen as bubbles in the algae throughout the observation period. In addition, since the algae survived and appeared to have grown, the organisms must have been supplying the producers with their necessary carbon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Criminal Justice System In 12 Angry Men Many important topics and integral information that is an essential part in the criminal justice system have been introduced in the play 12 Angry Men . Some examples of this would be crime and justice including the laws, criminal behavior, victimization, and the criminal justice system in itself. These issues are everyday situations but many people have been oblivious to the problem. The twelve jurors have an assignment where they will have to decide whether or not the young man on trial is guilty of murdering his father or is innocent beyond a reasonable doubt. All twelve men are frustrated and lack patience which lead them to be contumacious and unfocused. Their distraction led to many key facts getting misemployed and emotions start to cross making it hard for the jurors to construct a resolution. They have been oblivious to the effect that it would have on the community itself. On the information given up to this point this process essay will articulate the unenlightenment and egomaniacal principles of the twelve men in the short story and movie Twelve Angry Men written by Reginald Rose and directed by Sidney Lumet. Both Lumet and Rose showed their point of views of the criminal justice system in the play and the movie. Although the director s view on the justice system demonstrated the rights that everyone had, it also revealed his thoughts on how the justice system is corrupt, ineffective and unjust because all these aspects have shown the major differences in the morality of the twelve individuals and the problem at hand in the movie and play 12 Angry Men . The movie 12 Angry Men denotes how the most seemingly trivial facts and evidence can affect the aftermath in a brobdingnagian way if not processed thoroughly. In the movie you have twelve jurors, all from different backgrounds and with different personalities. But one wise and optimistic juror speaks his opinion, one that doesn t make a big difference in the beginning but opens the minds of the other eleven jurors as time goes by. He expresses the facts and evidence that was discussed during the young man s trial. He had said I want to try this thing. Let me see how long it took him. I m going to pace off twelve feet... . • 32. Essay On Interracial Dating Interracial and Cross Cultural Dating of Generation Y Interracial romance has been an issue in the United States since the first English settlers established colonies during the seventeenth century. Over the years, views toward interracial relationships in America have changed greatly. The interracial dating trend among today s teenagers is increasing at a steady rate (Grapes 49). However, there are still many biases facing Gen Y youth who choose to date someone of another race. A look at the history of interracial romance in the United States will shed light on today s attitudes. In the 1600s, Maryland banned interracial relationships between whites and slaves due to the questions over whether the offspring would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On one occasion, the man was mobbed and nearly lost his life (Landau 3). Even decades later, white society seemed determined to prevent interracial romances in most instances. A variety of obstacles were used to prohibit these relationships. Many social scientists in the past focused on the supposed pathological aspects of the interracial relationship, and they assumed that anyone involved in such a relationship must be disturbed in some way. In one case, a young white woman s grandmother had her placed in a mental institution after the young woman announced her engagement to an African American (Landau 5). When a young black man named Leroy Gardner enrolled in Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1943, he had to sign a formal agreement promising not to socialize with the white females on campus. Social scientists have observed many justifications for black white relationships, such as the need to rebel against parents or society; a passion for the exotic or forbidden fruit, the blacks desire to get even with the dominant culture, or whites desire to atone for past racism (Majete 10). In 1967, Loving v. Virginia cleared all legal barriers to interracial marriages and relationships. This legislation made it legal to marry interracially, but many people weren t willing to accept these relationships. For instance, in 1994 a white principal named Hulond Humphries caused uproar at Teaneck High in Wedowee, Alabama that caught the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. My Professional Development Plan Is Directed Towards... My personal professional development plan is directed towards helping me become a better teacher to help students learn and reach their full potential. The skills I am working on to be a better teacher include, better time management, communication, and having a stronger teacher voice. I plan to work on these goals throughout my time at York College of Pennsylvania and achieve them by the time I have completed my student teaching, which will be in three years. If I feel a goal has been achieved before I complete my student teaching, I plan to add a new goal, while still focusing on my previous goals to make them even stronger qualities. My first skill is to have better time management. As of now, I feel I do have strong time management when dealing with arriving early and planning my day out efficiently. I do have trouble with staying in the projected time frame during lessons. For example, if I have thirty minutes to teach a lesson, I may take thirty five to forty minutes. Typically, this is due to introduction of my lesson. I believe students need to grasp the concept in the beginning of the lesson to be able to build off of the information and complete activities on their own without the help of other students or myself. Like I said, as of now, I do have fair time management skills, but they certainly need improvement. My goal is to be able to plan lessons and keep them in the projected time frame; this includes being within 2 minutes under or over. There are several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Cognitive Theories Of Cognitive Behavioral Theories Cognitive behavioral theories theorize that human behavior is caused by internal or mental events, and in addition to external events proposed by behavioral theories. Research suggests that cognitive behavioral theories have shifted their focus, as seen in the first, second, and third waves of the theories. For example, initially the focus of cognitive theories was on identifying and changing maladaptive thoughts. However, recent models of cognitive theories seek to help people evaluate, and change their thoughts, beliefs, and assumptions. In addition, these newer models of cognitive behavioral theories seek to help clients understand the interactional nature of their thoughts and behaviors (Jones Butman, 2012). Conversely, at the core of cognitive behavioral theories is the assumption that human behavior is affected by cognitive activities. In addition, cognitive behavioral therapists theorize that human behavior can be monitored and altered, and also human behavior can be changed through rational change (Hersen Gross, 2008). Philosophical Assumptions Studies show that cognitive behavioral theories do not have explicit philosophical assumption. However, concepts of cognitive behavioral theory are associated with assumptions from a critical rationalism standpoint. At the core of critical rationalism is the belief that knowledge is only gained by falsifying hypotheses derived from scientific theories. Overall, knowledge is seen as objective and not subjective. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Persuasive Essay On Sexually Transmitted Disease Something in life I never enjoy is role play. Something about it annoys me which makes it much more difficult to do. Especially when writing out a conversation. Since I m going at it again I will definitely be putting some thought into this, so here I go. If my partner asked me about STDs, it wouldn t be just one question. I would expect to be bombarded with questions. If my mysterious partner was to start it would be along the lines of I m starting to have certain symptoms, should I be tested? I would then ask, what do you think you have? If an STD is a possibility, there would be many more questions after that. She would then ask things like what are the risks, do I have to get tested, what are the chances I have it? Well, there are many risks when it comes to Sexually transmitted diseases. STDS range from harmless to dangerous, temporary to permanent, and not contagious to contagious. You never have to get tested, but never knowing is gambling with the quality of your life and maybe even others. If you do have something that could be spread, the last thing you actually want to do is spread the disease. It is always highly recommended that you be tested for sexually transmitted diseases every year. Even when you aren t sexually active it is recommended that you get tested and if you are found to have a serious disease, spreading the STD with knowledge of a diagnosis is punishable by law and should never be done. Sexually transmitted diseases are easily passed between people from contact and not just sexual contact either. They can be passed through blood and saliva from intercourse, kissing, contact with blood in open wounds, sharing needles, or any other way that could possibly bring bodily fluids into contact with your own body. So even if you are not sexually active during that time or even if you have never had sex. It is always recommended to be tested because you never know what you have come in contact with. She then would probably ask me well how common are STDs and what STDs are most seen? I would say that sexually transmitted diseases are very common among the population more common than one might think. • 37. The Transmogrification of Venus to Mary in the Works of... The works of Sandro Botticelli are among the most revered of renaissance painting. The sweeping curves of his women and the ethereal beauty of their gazes are recognized instantaneously: from a grandmother in a small town to the cognoscenti of New York or Paris, few can claim to be unmoved by his work. Patronized by the Vatican as well as one of the most rich and powerful Florentines of his time, Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de Medici, Botticelli was hugely popular in his own day. His most magnificent work, the Primavera, as well as The Birth of Venus, Camilla and the Centaur, and Mars and Venus contain entirely mythological figures whose significances have been debated by various art historians for centuries. Born as Alessandro di ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you were to unite with her in wedlock and claim her as yours, she would make all your years sweet (Hartt and Wilkins 378). This passage could have countless connotations. The one that seems to make the most sense is that Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de Medici, upon the news of his upcoming marriage to Semiramide d Appiano, asked Botticelli to paint the Primavera using the figures that he did because they held a strong meaning for him since he received the aforementioned letter (Venturi 72). The way Venus is used in this picture along with the Three Graces, Mercury, Cupid, The Zephyr and Flora has mounds upon mounds of meanings. It is truly Neo Platonic. There are so many meanings, that if taken out of context, Venus could mean anything from lust to ideal beauty, to being the Goddess of April and gardens, along with Flora (Dempsey 260 261). If it is to be a gift to the bride or the married couple, it could suggest fertility being ushered in through Flora by way of Zephyr s actions. It could also be that the picture is showing the bride certain virtues she must possess through the Three Graces and a virginal, pure looking, wedding veiled Venus (see figure 2). The fact that there are, blossoming off of the orange trees, ripe sumptuous fruits is congruent with the fertility theme as well as the fact that oranges are part of the Medici coat of arms (Hartt and Watkins 379). Or is could be all of these ideas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
