Personality Traits Of An Individual Personality Essay
Individual Personalities Personality is defined as, the sum total of ways in which an individual reacts
and interacts with others and personality traits are defined as, enduring characteristics that describe an
individual s behavior. (Robbins and Judge, 2009) Describing an individual s behavior can be tricky
and trying to change an individual s personality is near impossible. Business managers have the task
of implementing a leadership style that thrives in their perspective business. However, in order for
their particular style of leadership to be a success they need to understand the role personalities play in
business organizations. Team members personalities may dictate what style a leader ultimately decides
to implement, just as, employers will look to hire individuals with personalities similar to that of the
company. Hiring managers need to be in tune with personalities and how they may help benefit their
bottom line. This process is accomplished by the use of personality tests, which have been around
since the early 1900 s.
Jung Typology Test
One of the most common personality tests is the Jung Typology Test. Jung is known as one of the
pioneers in the field of psychology, along with Sigmund Freud. His research gave light to the idea of
psychological types.
Myers Briggs Typology Indicator
Then, motivated by and building upon Jung s research came the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).
Myers and Briggs wanted to share this information with more people.

Sacred Spaces
To answer this question best I think it is important for me to define what religious and secular mean to
me. The two words seem obviously definable, but some people may have different interpretations of
what quantifies as religious. To me, for somewhere to be religious it has to have a clear connection to
an established religion. A place that is secular, however, has no solid link to religion. I do believe that
sacred spaces can stem both from the secular as well as the religious. Jerusalem is a great example of a
sacred space that has emerged from the religious. The three main Abrahamic religions consider it to be
a sacred space, which helps the space maintain a connection with a feeling of transcendence. On the
other hand, national parks

In The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fist Fight In Heaven
No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his
religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love
comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. Unfortunately Native Americans have deep
roots with racism and oppression during the last 500 years. In The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight
in Heaven, Sherman Alexie tries to show racism in many ways in multiple of his short stories. These
stories, engage our history from a Native American viewpoint. Many Native Americans were brutally
forced out of their homes and onto Reservations that lacked resources. Later, Indian children were
taken from their families and placed into school that were designed to, Kill the Indian, save the man.
In the book there are multiple short story that are pieces that form a larger puzzle that shows the
struggles and their effects on Native Americans. Sherman Alexie shows the many sides of racism,
unfair justice and extermination policies and how imagination is key for Native American survival.
Sherman Alexie show how non Native Americans treat Native Americans in court and day to day life.
In the story of The Trial of Thomas Builds the Fire Thomas is charged for crimes that he did not
commit and yet he was still sentenced to two consecutive lifetime sentences Mr. Builds the Fire, you

Is It Proper to place someone in jail for a seatbelt...
States across the nation have seat belt laws in place that make it a requirement for drivers and
passengers in vehicles that are being operated on public streets to wear some sort of safety belt. In
1998, 41,471 people were killed in 6,334,000 reported motor vehicle accidents in the United States.
Seat belts are estimated to save 9,500 lives each year, and statistics show a higher degree of seat belt
use in states that aggressively enforce seat belt laws. The laws, as well as the punishments available
for violation of the laws vary by state. In most states, however, it is considered a misdemeanor and
punishable by a small fine. The properness of an arrest for such violations is a good question and has

When trying to determine whether or not it is proper to put someone in jail for violating the seat belt
law courts must examine the state s statutes to determine whether or not an arrest could be deemed a
violation of the citizens Fourth Amendment rights. The Fourth Amendment provides the right of the
people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and
seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath
or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be
seized. Historically courts have evaluated these cases by first determining if probable cause existed to
make the arrest. Next, they look at the reasonableness of the arrest, with reasonableness being
measured as an objective standard, not by the arresting officers state of mind.
In the case of Dunaway v. New York the court stated that the probable cause standard applies to all
arrests, without the need to balance the interests and circumstances involved in a particular situation.
In other words, if and officer arrests an individual whom he or she believes to have committed even a
minor crime in his presence there has been no violation committed. The cases of both Whren v. United
States and Dunaway v. New York

The Role of Music During and After Puerto Rican Migration...
The Role of Music During and After Puerto Rican Migration to the United States
For Puerto Ricans, music served infinite purposes. It allowed for the formation and reformation of
cultural views and opinions, through the lyrics in the songs. These views were constantly changing,
which in turn fed into the ever evolving identity of the Puerto Rican people. As a vehicle of expression
it stimulated thought and provided a method of communication for the community. In The Puerto
Rican community of New York City the increasing popularity of music indicated a desire for Puerto
Rican based and oriented entertainment but more importantly for national unity. For the musicians
themselves music served as an outlet for creativity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Puerto Rican society was not devoid of color consciousness or prejudice, but racial categories were
different that in the United States (53). Once on the mainland the musicians encountered an entirely
different system for the categorization of people. A more simplistic system that relied on the hue of the
skin as opposed to facial features, hair texture, ...wealth or occupation (53). Namely those who had
white skin were placed into one category and those that did not into another. The racist tendencies of
the Americans led to the negation of all that was black by the Puerto Rican community. Puerto Ricans
were much more prone to settle in pockets with their lighter compatriotas than to except external
definitions of themselves and move into the black American sections of Harlem (73). The focus on
race does not imply that money did not play an important role in American society either, however, it
did not play a major role in the book.
Glasser employs racially descriptive terms, throughout the book, that are confusing and unintelligible.
These terms are found frequently, although they are not previously explained. Often the term itself
describes two different groups. One such term is white which at one point means North American and
yet on other occasions it means a Light skinned Puerto Rican. Within the span of two pages Glasser
speaks of latin relief bands that were made up of whites only (76). The clear implication here is that

The Refugee Journey
Credit 3: The Refugee Journey from Syria to Madison
Module 2 Becoming a Refugee
The United Nations High Commissioner Refugees (UNHCR) is an international organization that
works to protect and assist refugees anywhere in the world, by providing shelter, health, safeguarding
individuals, assessing global needs and advocating for those population (UNHCR, 2016). In fact, the 5
groups the UNHCR helps are refugees in Eastern of Turkey, The diaspora from Africa, refugees in
South America, refugees in Middle East and refugees from Syria (Salopek, 2015). Generally, refugees
are those who flee from inevitable, often long term violence and other difficult living conditions
brought on by the conflict. The United Nations more narrowly defines refugees as persons who are
outside their country and cannot return owing to a well founded fear of persecution because of their
race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group (UNHCR,
2016). Those are groups of people who leave their home to another country for safety purpose.
However, all people who flee conflict cannot be called refugees, refugee agencies commonly
distinguish between refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) to decide who is covered by
international law and receives assistance and who does not. For the most part, little assistance reaches
a person fleeing a conflict until he or she crosses an international border. The United Nations
distinguishes refugees and IDPs

obtain the 3,649. I found it to be difficult to obtain this amount of calories, and still stay within range
of the necessary macronutrients. On day one of the food log, I was able to get his daily calories to

Telecommuting Suggestion Report
The first course of action this tech firm should take is to create a productivity report to analyze the
current state of the company s workforce. It was mentioned that the organization already has fifty
employees telecommuting. However, the head executives have yet to make a formalized plan. This
was a large oversight that could have potentially caused a lot of tension between the two groups of
employees. Although guidelines should have been created before telecommuting began, it will help
show any differences between the two groups in the productivity report. A suggestion for how the
report should be created and implemented would be to weigh whatever task is most important for each
job and compare the performance between onsite and telecommuting staff members. Having this
information will help determine if the company should even allowing working off site all together.
Unfortunately, the prompt did not specify how well telecommuting had been working for the firm
before asking for suggestions. Hypothetically we will say that the percentage of productivity for off
site workers was equally as high as on site. A company would have a difficult time if everyone
telecommutes, however, it would be wise to allow some flexibility in work schedules. The tech firm
could include temporary off site work as well. For example, allowing an employee with a cold to work
at home or if a deadline is pressing and a staff member works better at home. If the company

Determinants of Carbon Dioxide Emissions in the...
Introduction The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Goddard Institute for Space Studies
(2014) states that global surface temperature in 2013 was +0.6°C (~1.1°F) warmer than the 1951 1980
base period average, thus the seventh warmest year in the GISS analysis. Global warming has always
been correlated by the increasing amount of greenhouse gases, which carbon dioxide is notoriously
known for, in the Earth s atmosphere. Many environmental activists are putting pressures to every
facet of society and making them aware about the harm of the continuously increasing carbon dioxide
emission that the world is experiencing. The Philippines is already starting to experience sudden
extreme changes in its climate and natural disasters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this objective, the author thinks that there is a need to empirically determine the impact of
macroeconomic determinants on carbon dioxide emissions.
Significance Oftentimes, human nature dictates us to spur the most from what we have, thus, it is
natural for greed and tunnel vision for growth to be in the minds of many businessmen, policymakers,
or any citizen in the population. However, in many cases, these men fail to recognise that more than
monetary costs, many of human actions entail environmental repercussions. The significance of this
study can be derived from the essence of the variables that are going to be used in this study. Gross
domestic product, foreign direct investment, exports, imports, energy use, and urban population relates
with economic development. On the other hand, carbon dioxide emissions in this study, relates to
environmental sustainability. Given these two, the study will give the reader insights, more or less, on
how the Philippine population treats economic development along side environmental sustainability.
Through the individual effects of the independent variables, we can infer not only about what those
variables contribute to carbon dioxide emissions, but also see the level of environmental awareness
that the population injects while inspiring development in the country.
With the completion of the paper, we are bringing in practicality and the picture of reality that the
Philippine economy and its society is

is if the citizens were to use popular sovereignty to vote on a law that outlawed all hate speech. But if

Taran Swan Essay
Taran Swan s story as general manager of Nickelodeon Latin America is a true pattern of successful
leadership in building organizations. She manages to foster a great team of people who would feel
equal and work together to achieve a common goal that she manages to set without exercising
authority. Furthermore she manages to make everyone feel equal in their ideas by allowing discussions
rather than exercising power. Her management is extremely effective when the company was being
created but at the same time, as her team increased she kept the tight working style which guarantees
success in the long run even if she is not present. Although the case study that is examines her

However, Taran Swan successfully identifies her main recourse and advantage the Nickelodeon brand
and philosophy. Although her managers at Nickelodeon where unsure about the success that can be
achieved in Latin America, she took the challenge to try and convince them that the market is ready.
As she noted there were not that many opportunities to enter the competition and she fails most
probably there won t be another shot. Quickly she manages to overcome what proves to be her
greatest challenge the unfamiliar environment.
Starting with a brand and full of ideas, the first key step that Taran Swan executes is the establishment
of her great team. Her strategy of recruiting talented, open minded people is a very firm base of the
future company. Her personal involvement with all of her staff is vital for her future style of leading
who foster communication between people in a very productive environment. She has faith in the
people she has chosen to be part of Nickelodeon Latin America and firths for every single one of
them, as in the case of McCarty and Friedman. She is extremely successful in creating the perfect
environment for people to discuss, question and reason their ideas and views. She rarely applies her
authority and at the same time by adjusting small pieces of the machine that she has created the
company leaps forward. In such a hostile and unfamiliar environment most

Substance Abuse In Nursing Home
Most government controlled homes do not get sufficient funds, so they lack trained workers and
necessary equipment. Still, they get more help and don t prioritize money, which results in better
quality service. Chains and for profit companies use a system of rewards and sanctions for managers
and board of directors, executives must prioritize shareholder value which may compromise other
goals such as quality (Harrington 786). Another issue is that many nursing homes use antipsychotic
drugs but often times they administer them illegally, harming the patients. It was found in a recent

An ethical issue is an issue in which there is no clear right or wrong decision, these types of decisions

consequences of taking the action. These could range from breaking confidentiality to the morality of
the death penalty. In September of 2012, a New England compound pharmacy was linked to a fungal
meningitis outbreak. It was here where methylprednisolone acetate injections (used to treat arthritis

The person who was to be executed could then be living with a life long impairment. Then the state
would most likely not try to execute the man again, leaving him to suffer for the rest of his life. I
personally believe that Natural Rights do not cover the killing of someone unless it s justified. These
would include self defense, proper execution of a proven guilty individual, among other reasons. The
Natural Rights Theory would suggest that this person this person has the right to not suffer when
being executed. Even though the likelihood of this person suffering is low, the chance is still there.
Even if one person out of a million suffers even if just temporary, then the Natural Rights Theory says
this is not acceptable. This would have to be something that Governor Nixon would have to consider.
Would he want to be held responsible to allowing a drug with an unknown background that isn t FDA

this is an issue that seems to have no clear cut answers, I personally believe that Governor Nixon

The Last Days Of Ptolemy Grey Essay
In today s society elder people are not given much importance or care like they deserve because they
are old and as some people would say annoying. Often times we as younger generation believe that
older people just nag all the time and to get rid of that nagging we send them to nursing homes or to
an organization that will take care of them. Elder people do not realize what they are saying or doing
because a lot of them have health problem that can or cannot be treated, they are babies and as
youngest generation we do not see that or understand. Most older people have hard time taking care of
their self, cleaning their homes or surroundings and live in that dirty environment because they have
health problems and some do not even know what generation they are living in. in the book The Last
Days of Ptolemy Grey the author Walter Mosley presents a novel about an elder black man whose
having memory problem and cannot remember anyone in his family, friends and himself and his been
forgotten by his family. The author presents this novel in a very unique way that makes us realize that
we should care for elder people especially if it is our own family member because one day we will be
in their spot and we want our family or kids to take care of us and love us until the last breath we take.
This novel is about a 91 year old black man who s walking that final line between dementia and
reality. The character s name is Ptolemy Grey and he lives in a very violent south central L.A.

1) Are the four components of Marriott s financial strategy consistent with its growth objective?
a) It is advisable to manage than to own as it is consistent with the growth strategy. In this manner,
mar riot can attract additional capital that gives it an opportunity to even invest more in the future,
share the risks with limited partners. The partnership can be of great benefit as it is a good way of
saving on taxes.
b) The decision to invest in projects increases the shareholders value of the company. This is
consistent with the growth and from the NPV criteria, positive NPV of projects increases the

How does Marriott use its estimate of its cost of capital? Does this make sense?
a) Discounted cash flows from the projects by the suitable division of a hurdle rate to get the net
present value which financially makes sense since risks among different divisions do vary.
b) Another method is through incorporation of the hurdle rate in the compensation policy which in
sense does not make sense since the rate does reflect risks of different activities and not managers
performance.
3. What is the weighted average cost of capital for Marriott Corporation?
Marriot Corporation measures the opportunity cost of the cost of capital for the investments using the
weighted average cost of capital for similar investments that have the same risk. The WACC for the
corporation is 11.89%.
a) What risk free rate and the risk premium did you use to calculate the cost of equity?
For the purposes of risk premium consistency, the arithmetic average was most applicable to the
historic US government bonds of 4.58% for the longest period because of its accurate estimate.
The risk premium used is 7.43% though it seems to be high, low free rate compensates it.
For the calculation of equity, beta is a necessity because there is no comparison that matches its
operational profile. Beta 1.17 ke = (4.58%+1.17) =

American Civil Society On The Iranian Nuclear Deal
Introduction
In examining the impact of American civil society on the Iranian nuclear deal, it is absolutely critical
to recognize that, in historical perspective, the American population has had very little impact on
foreign policy. As Almond asserts, the American population has typically viewed politics as a
phenomenon that ends at the water s edge, and has consequently participated only minimally in
debates over foreign affairs. Noting that discussions of foreign policy have not historically been
prominent within American civil society and that the parties have not truly sought to socialize voters
on the basis of foreign policy derived cleavages, Almond is thus pointing to a context wherein the
American political system is not one in which civil society has historically mobilized itself so as to
support or oppose given elements of national foreign policy. With Almond also proposing that
Americans attitudes towards these foreign policy phenomena tend to be simplistic and often premised
on incorrect factual information, Almond thus makes it clear that American civil society does not
typically engage with foreign policy, and largely lacks the capacity for doing so. The work of
Converse goes further and suggests that the American party system, historically aligned on the
traditional conservative liberal dichotomy, is not one that has created a consistent space for civil
societal discussion of foreign policy issues. Rather, and given that this dichotomy has socialized the

Creating Homogeneous Ability Grouping
Background
Research into ability grouping has raised questions about the process of creating homogeneous ability
groups. Evidence suggests it is not uncommon for students to be placed in an inappropriate group for
their ability level (Ireson Hallam 1999; MacIntyre Ireson 2002, as cited in Muijs Dunne, 2010). Muijs
and Dunne (2010) uncovered during their research that middle bands and even the high band
contained students with low test scores. The findings of Muijs and Dunne (2010) suggest the process
in place to group students according to their ability is unreliable. Hallinan (2003) reported the process
teachers were taking was to group students by standardised test scores, prior achievement and the
recommendations of teachers and counselors. The benefit of homogeneous ability grouping is the
opportunity to provide students with differentiated instruction based on their ability level. The result
of heterogeneous ability groups created through the grouping process is one of many concerns. ...

Students in the low band can suffer self esteem issues, as well as negative impacts on their attitude and
motivation (Suknandan Lee as cited in Smith Sutherland, 2006). The negative impacts are greatly felt
by schools in low socioeconomic areas. These schools had higher enrolment numbers, with a larger
portion of minority students and a greater range of abilities (Nomi, 2009). The negative impacts on
students in the low band are likely to be due to the label placed on them. Lanzo (2011) conducted a
comparison research and discovered at risk students benefitted from being in heterogeneous ability
groups rather than homogeneous ability

What Is The Mkultra Conspiracy
Our government has been known to keep secrets whether it is the current scandal going on between

Many famous conspiracy theories that have been talked about for years have turned out to be more

Roxy Paine, Conjoined Essay
The piece of art that I have chosen is Roxy Paine s Conjoined created in 2007. This is a
representational piece depicting a pair of trees taken from nature and joined by their branches. The
trees themselves are cylindrical, smooth and shiny from all angles. They reflect light from all sides
creating a mirror like appearance.
The branches initially flow upward but then gradually flow into the middle where they are conjoined.
They are located in Madison Square Park where they seem to blend in with the rest of the trees but
they definitely manage to stand out. Because they serve no function other than visual I consider this
sculpture to be fine art.
Roxy Paine welds cylindrical stainless steel pipes and rods to form and shape these two ... Show more

Stainless steel is more expensive than standard steel. Paine has studied and observed they way trees
grow and this has allowed him to form his own artistic rendition.
Paine uses the visual element of Direction and Movement to make the trees appear like they are
growing into each other or being pulled apart. The branches are tapering at the tips and flowing to the
side almost like a windstorm is blowing them over. Looking at the trees you get a real sense of
struggle between forces. They look like they are pulling apart but at the same time trying to overtake
one another.
He also uses the visual element of Shape and Mass. The trees are 3D representation of actual trees.
They are over 40 foot tall and very heavy; therefore they consume a large amount of volume and
mass. The trees appear to be constructed from geometric shapes but also try to follow the form of
nature in a more organic way.
Since the two trees are a sculpture they are naturally 3D but their reflection caused by light shining on
the stainless steel reminds us of their intricate details. The trees have a very strong gray
monochromatic earth tone caused by the steel.
A Principle of Design that Paine emphasizes is Unity. The trees are conjoined, rendering them as one,
as a whole, they are in unison. The trees appear to be to scale when compared to the other trees in the
park. They are not too small nor do the feel out of place. There is a strong emphasis near the middle of

Producing sustainable competitive advantage through the effective management of people*
Jeffrey Pfeffer
Executive Overview
Achieving competitive success through people involves fundamentally altering how we think about
the workforce and the employment relationship. It means achieving success by working with people,
not by replacing them or limiting the scope of their activities. It entails seeing the workforce as a
source of strategic advantage, not just as a cost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The point here is not to throw out conventional strategic analysis based on industrial economics but
simply to note that the source of competitive advantage has always shifted over time. What these five
successful firms tend to have in common is that for their sustained advantage, they rely not on
technology, patents, or strategic position, but on how they manage their workforce.
The Importance of the Workforce and How
It is Managed
As other sources of competitive success have become less important, what remains as a crucial,
differentiating factor is the organization, its employees, and how they work. Consider, for instance,
Southwest Airlines, whose stock had the best return from 1972 to 1992. It certainly did not achieve
that success from economies of scale. In
1992, Southwest had revenues of $1.31 billion and a mere 2.6% of the U.S. passenger market.4 People
Express, by contrast, achieved $1 billion in revenues after only 3 years of operation, not the almost
20 it took Southwest. Southwest exists not because of regulated or protected markets but in spite of
them. During the first three years of its history, no
Southwest planes were flown. 5 Southwest waged a battle for its very existence with competitors who
sought to keep it from flying at all and, failing that, made sure it did not fly out of the newly
constructed Dallas Fort Worth international airport.
Instead, it was restricted to operating out of the

The New Deal V. Roosevelt s Digging In
The Great Depression was a hard time for many people. Many parents, and kids, had to have the will
to drive themselves to work many, many jobs. Parents also had to have the ability to stretch every
available dollar (Hastings). In Digging In, the author said his dad sold iron cords door to door, bought
a horse to break gardens, worked a day in the hay , picked peaches, rented out an extra lot for a garden
on the shares, raised some sweet potato slips, painted houses for about $5 a house, hung wallpaper,
sometimes traded an infrequent dozen of eggs at the grocery store, worked at the strip mines one or
two days, cut hair for boys in the neighborhood, guarded the fence at the county fairgrounds, sold coal
orders, and when he could, worked occasionally on WPA, an organization to employ millions of
unemployed workers. That is a lot of work! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Race to the Kmart Parking Lot Essay
Race to K mart
No one in his or her right mind would think that K mart parking lot is a great place to have fun for a
day. Most people would wonder why my friends and I go there on Saturday and Sundays. Even though
scheduling is sometimes a problem, the parking lot of K mart is my favorite place because this is
where my friends and I visit, enjoy good food, and drag race remote controlled cars.
Sometimes scheduling can be a main problem, and friends will decline for many reasons. Some of the
people miss a day of work that week due to doctor s appointment or a family emergency, so they have
to make those days up on a weekend. At other times, their car might be broken down, and they need to
fix it. If they do not have enough gas, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, we warm the cars up that are nitro along with tuning them to get maximum performance out of
the engine. Now we are ready for the contest of a lifetime.
While the food and visiting are important, the most important reason why K mart s parking lot is my
favorite place is that it provides a great space to drag race remote controlled cars. There we have about
one thousand feet of distance across the parking lot. Everyone starts on one end of the parking lot and
races down to the other side. Then the cars turn around and race back to where we started. Racing five
cars down the straightaway side by side can be difficult. If one person loses control of his car, that
individual can take out one or all of the others at the same time. The winner of that day has the
bragging rights until the next day or until the next race day. This it what makes it fun to be at the
Kmart parking lot on Saturdays and Sundays. There is a lot of trash talk that goes on during the whole
day. We have had people run into the curbs light poles while car parts go flying through the air.
Watching it happen is funny for everyone but for the individual wrecking. Rubbing their misfortune in
their faces makes them mad and also makes them try to fix their car and get back into the race to see if
they can win or wreck all of the other cars at the same time. Revenge is what makes this sport fun.
Another humorous calamity is if someone s car loses signal from the

The Blow Literary Analysis
The Vow features a true love story between Kim and Krickitt Carpenter. Less than 10 weeks after the
wedding, the couple got into a horrible car crash giving Krickitt a huge head injury leaving her in a
coma. Krickitt woke up without her memory of ever meeting Kim let alone falling in love with him or
even marrying him. Krickitt being a huge part in Kim s life, Kim chooses to stand by Krickitt s side
going thru every husband s worst nightmare and tries to bring back the memories of their relationship
by doing things they once did together. But unfortunately, the efforts were mostly failures and Kim
understood that the Krickitt he married had died in the car crash. Krickitt may have permanently lost
the missing years of her life but with time, overcoming many obstacles along the way, the two love
birds eventually fall in love with each other once again and found themselves with two children.

The Two Chinese Philosophies Of Confucianism
The two Chinese philosophies of Legalism and Confucianism could not be more opposite. Even
though two of the writers of Legalism were students of Xinzu, a philosopher of Confucianism, there
are more of differences than similarities between the two. Because of this, legalism, which preceded
the concept of Confucianism, had a lot of reasons why Confucianism was considered wrong. While
towards the fall of the Qin Dynasty, Confucian beliefs started to revamp and become more widely
accepted and thus they were blended together to some extent, this was not the case beforehand, in fact
it could be argued that blending the two together seemed almost impossible. Confucianism stressed
the ideas of the knowledge, humaneness, and filial piety while legalism stressed power, rewards and
punishments, and agricultural wealth. Thus from a legalist standpoint, Confucianism was considered
wrong because it placed value on virtues instead of the laws, focusing on education to prosper growth
and moral character instead of simply obeying societal laws and valuing agricultural wealth rather
than humaneness Thus differences far exceed similarities between these two ancient beliefs. However,
both have made everlasting marks on Chinese culture and tradition that to this day still exists.
Here is my suggestion for a more succinct and focused intro, deleting what you have above:

With product innovation, the key to success is capturing the imagination of the customers. Also, with
the rising energy costs facing the world today, governments might require permits or licenses on the

an EV was cost efficient, but with this rise in energy prices, a potential alteration of consumer
perception about the cost of owning an EV might occur. In my opinion, these driving forces only
dampen the industry thus allowing only early movers to be the most likely to survive the competition

to say that the EV industry in unattractive. This is because anyone can enter into the industry thus
creating too much competition which will drive prices down. This driving of prices downward will
cause new entrants into the business to see no real profit growth. Also, new products being created
keeps giving consumers new ideas to buy. This also makes it harder for businesses in the EV industry
to find ways to make buyers choose their business. Also, suppliers have strong bargaining power so
industries have a difficult time trying to shop around for the best prices on the parts they need.

Holland Christian Schooling Report
To start the story of my religious upbringing I have to go as far back as I know, with my great

where my family has remained. Holland, Michigan was founded not too long before that, in 1847.
Holland was founded by Dutch Calvinist separatists who were led by Albertus VanRaalte. VanRaalte

going to a private, Christian school, but I really enjoyed it. I do wonder sometimes though what it
would have been like to go through public schooling and if that would have changed how I am today. I
think the strong morals and values I hold today were largely created by my upbringing. But, I do think
I used to simply claim to be a Christian because of my family. If my parents are Christian that must
mean I m a Christian, right? Going to college made me realize that my faith is something that I have to
make my own. My faith is not necessarily my parents faith. I have to make a decision on what I
believe and what I stand for, separate from my family. I remember that around the age of 14 I started
to feel distant from God and was not very strong in my faith. Throughout high school I think I had
different points of feeling spiritual highs, but felt like my faith was lukewarm. Today, I think I am
starting to separate my parent s faith from my own, and starting to make it mine. I feel like this is
something everyone has to do at some point in their life. In the past year, and in the past couple

A piece of dramatic irony that we are given is that we know Fortunato is going to be killed,
unfortunately Fortunato does not know this. Fortunato s name is even ironic. Fortunato means the

Assessment of Wal Mart valuation using different methods To test the assumption of a discount rate of
7% as given in the outline of the case, we calculated the required rate of return for the Wal Mart stock
using CAPM . Using rWalMart = Rf + βWalMart [E(RM) RF], we find the required rate of return to
be 7.01% and in line with the information given in the case outline. Perpetual dividend growth model:
The standard method of calculating a stock price using the perpetual dividend growth model is done
by assessing a company s dividend one year into the future adding the future expected growth rate.
The formula is written as: P0 = D1/(Ke − g), where Ke is the investor required return, D1 is next year

By calculating the dividend per share until D=3 and employing: P0 = D1/(1+Ke)^1 + D2/(1+Ke)^2 +
D3/(1+Ke)^3+TV/(1+Ke)^3, where TV is the terminal value we calculate the present day intrinsic
value of the Wal Mart stock to be $62.15 hence the market value is consider low compared to our
forecasted value. This method replicates the basic foundation of the Discount Cash flow Model
(DCF), which in our opinion is the preferred method in valuation studies. Three Stage Approach:
There are no questions about this approach in the outline of the assignment, so the following
comments should be considered back of an envelope considerations. In general the three stage
approach allows us to add complexity to the standard dividend discount models by enabling changing
growth scenarios throughout the forecasting period: an initial period of higher than normal growth, a
transition/consolidation period of declining growth and final a period of stable growth. The main
assumptions are that the company on which we conduct the calculation study currently is in
extraordinary strong growth phase. The time period with the extraordinary strong growth must be
strictly defined and eventually be replaced with the declining growth assumption. Lastly, Capital
Expenditures and Depreciation are expected to grow at the same rate as revenues. . Analyzing exhibit

To Paint A Water Lily By Langston Hughes
In To Paint a Water Lily , Hughes illustrates the process of an artist observing nature at a pond and
painting a lily. While the speaker thoroughly observes all kinds of scenes in the pond, the painter only
focuses on the lily. At the end of the poem, the painter resolves on painting only the lily, ignoring the
other aspects of the pond. The speaker critiques the painter s lack of attention to the surrounding and
the desire to capture only the beautiful part of the pond. The poem contrasts the beauty and the
violence created by the creatures around the lily and conveys that the calm appearance of the pond is
not necessarily the reality. In the beginning of the poem, the pond is described as having green level

Other issues that must be considered is whether you have changed any methods of operation in order
to improve profitability, whether you have any knowledge needed to continue with activity as a
business, whether you have made any profits from similar activities in the past and whether the
present activity makes a profit in some years and finally, whether you expect to make future profits
from any appreciation in the value of assets that are used in the activity.
Taking all the above into consideration, an activity may be presumed to be intended for profit if it
makes a profit for at least or in at least three of the previous five tax years. This includes the current
year or, in some cases, at least two of the last seven years of activities that are concerned primarily
with breeding, training or showing, as well as racing horses.
The client is obviously obsessed with horse racing and breeding, and he spends a minimum of 10
hours every week in this past time. His business , however, has reflected losses for the past 6 of 7
years. Therefore, his activities do not meet the threshold to be listed or considered a business activity.
This being an activity that is primarily concerned with horse racing and training, he has not made any
profits for at least two of the last 6 or 7 years. If it is seven years, it cannot be an activity meant for
profit. If he made a profit in that first year and another

The Effects Of Prenatal Screening On Children
Prenatal screening is used to detect any potential diseases or disabilities that a fetus may have or
develop in the future. Many procedures are done to test said fetus, including analyzing a sample of
amniotic fluid or testing a few cells from the placenta. Various genetic disorders are tested for, such as
mental retardation, sickle cell anemia, and Tay Sachs. Once informed of a fetus potential defects, the
parents can then decide to either carry the fetus to full term or terminate the pregnancy. As with any
situation concerning a human life, this has produced ethical issues. For those who believe prenatal
screening followed by abortion is acceptable consider it a moral duty for parents to prevent a disease
or disability that could cause their child suffering if they have the means to do so. Just as a mother can
change her diet during a pregnancy to prevent a mental disorder, parents can choose to abort a fetus to
prevent that child from having a life of pain and suffering. To not prevent a disease or disorder is to
disregard a child s basic human desire to live a normal, healthy life, and is thus unfair to the child.
Further advantages of prenatal screening are that it helps minimize overall suffering in the world and
promotes general welfare. It also not only prevents the child from physical and emotional distress but
it prevents a family s emotional and economical distress, too. Although prenatal screening and
abortion procedure may be relatively expensive, it could

Government s Plan Of Action
Government s Plan of Action to Secure Electricity Supply Energy, especially electricity, is important
for economic development. Electricity plays an important role toward economic growth as it is
essential in using pieces of equipment that are used in the manufacturing processes of various products
(ESMAP 8). The increasing population and expanding economy contribute to the increase in the
demand for electricity. Especially in summer, there are many people would like to stay at home with
the air conditioning on rather than having activities outdoors. Currently, China is the major consumer
of electricity because of the huge population and industrial demand. However, the electricity produced
in this country is not enough to supply its needs (Global Energy). The economic progress could not
pursue if there is insufficient amount of energy that any country could use. Electricity shortage can
happen if the available supply in an area cannot meet its demand. If this situation is prolonged, the
price of the electricity might increase. Different countries experience electricity shortages because of
the increasing demand for electricity. As the executive body of a nation, the government has
implemented other strategies to deal with the problem, such as energy saving methods and restriction
of electricity used. These two have their own advantages and disadvantages, but both have been
effective in resolving the electricity shortages. Restricting electricity use is an effective

Cultural Imperialism And The United States
During my time in Guatemala, I believe that the social issues I came in the most contact with were
hegemony and cultural imperialism, or in other words, the influence the United States has over
Guatemala. No matter where I was, whether it be the streets of the small town of San Miguel or the
larger, more developed city of Guatemala City, I could not help but notice how much of an impact the
United States has. Throughout the course of a month we learned a lot about the root causes of poverty
America as a hegemon through both readings and discussion. The footprint the U.S. has left in
Guatemala was apparent not only while reading and learning about the history of Latin America, but
while visiting the country itself. In addition, we had the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As you walk or drive through Guatemala, you are sure to see countless billboards, much like in the
U.S. Being from the U.S., this seems completely normal. The signs even looked very similar. When I
took a closer look at the signs, I noticed why they looked so similar. There were American models on
the signs. In particular, I noticed a blonde haired woman on the front of a billboard advertising
shampoo. I also noticed American women on billboards advertising jeans and beer. When looking into
bars I saw calendars with American women as well. It was impossible not to notice the influence that
the U.S. had not only on methods of advertising, but also on the images used. In addition to noticing
the U.S. hegemon while on the streets of Guatemala, I also noticed it while living with the people.
While staying with host families, we were given the opportunity to take in an entirely different culture
or so we thought. Even though living amongst Guatemalans was a very new experience, it was also
very evident that the U.S. had impacted the traditional Guatemalan way of life. The first thing that I
noticed while living with my host family was the way they dressed. My host parents wore what can be
considered as traditional clothing. They had not let any outside influence impact their decision in
clothing. However, my host siblings we not mirroring their parents. My host siblings ranged from
fourteen years old to about thirty years old. They wore much more casual

Cursive Writing
To Cursive or Not to Cursive?
A fifteen year old straight A student walked into the Department of Motor Vehicles with her mother.
The excitement of becoming a driver for the first time quickly faded when the girl was required to
sign her name. The girl was mortified that she didn t know how. The mother couldn t help but wonder
if her child s generation was filled with cursive illiterates? Cursive writing should be a curriculum
requirement for grade school students not only because it is required on legal documents but it is
important to understand information written in cursive and it improves penmanship.
Teenagers and young adults are increasingly faced with embarrassment because of their lacking
knowledge in the art of handwriting. For many young adults it starts with getting a driver s license. As
the amount of things that an individual wants in life increases the more their signature is needed. The
big things like a car and house can be thwarted for a short time by living in a city with public
transportation and with parents or roommates. There comes a point in life when personal needs and
wants become clear and the skill of signing one s name becomes a necessity. Going to college or
getting married and having children require tedious amounts of paperwork that repeatedly asks a
person to sign on the dotted line. Sometimes these legal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, many teachers hang up the printed version of these documents. The discarded cursive
penmanship negates the traditional and historical ambiance behind each document. This class of
ambiance is also found in formal invitations like wedding announcements, graduation invites, and

perceived as having a higher level of intimacy and importance than printed

The Pioneer Investigation And Findings From Brown Kulik...
Recollections of vivid autobiographical episodic memories formed when an individual experiences
intense emotions, generating from a surprising public event defines Flashbulb memories (FBMs).
Permanent and consistent remembrances processed cognitively and stored as explicit recollections in
long term memory are additional features of FBMs (Goldstein, 2014). Brown Kulik (1977) first
proposed this phenomenon and argued FBMs are resistant to change like photographs. The ongoing
debate over the process of cognition in relation to storing and recalling FBMs led numerous
researchers to advance their understanding of the mental processing of FBMs and to evaluate the
impact emotions have on memories. This paper discusses the pioneer investigation and findings from
Brown Kulik s 1977. It further explores debates opposing their unique theory of FBMs and the
apparent inadequacies of their conclusions. Additionally, this paper examines plausible hypotheses
from researchers for the formation of FBMs like rehearsal of events and the inconsistencies of FBMs,
their distortions and the decay FBMs experience over time. It then evaluates a contemporary study on
FBMs and the necessity for future studies to develop a method to measure FBMs. This is imperative
in order to gain a deeper understanding of the influences emotions have on shaping, processing and
storing FBMs cognitively and consequently how it impacts on our daily lives.
One theory of how emotion may influence the cognitive

Essay On The Woman Warrior
A typical warrior is a medieval knight in shining armor fighting for his life and homeland. Today, the
definition of what it means to be a warrior has become ambiguous. Often times, we view those willing
to sacrifice their lives for others soldiers, police officers, or firefighters as warriors. Even expanded in
this way, the warrior still has a connotation of physical bravery, masculine strength, and unhindered
confidence. However, the word warrior can have an entirely new meaning when we use it in a literary
context. It can be defined as a person who is simply fighting for convictions and values that are
morally and ethically right. As associated with women, some real, some legendary, some with evident
power, some seeming to be weak. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This story ignited this internal conflict that began within Maxine. She began contemplating this
balance between the strict Chinese tradition, and its relation to her American values. Nonetheless, a
key theme that emerges is acknowledging the power that Maxine s mother held as the storyteller. Her
interpretation of the events characterized Maxine s aunt as a repulsive person. Maxine was NOT [to]
tell anyone because it risked bringing exposure and shame to the family (1). After hearing the events
through her mother s perspective, Maxine understood that her mother controlled the way events
unraveled. This realization showcases how Maxine was able to think outside the framework her
mother was providing for her. Maxine imagined that in order to sustain being in love, [her aunt] often
worked at herself in the mirror (6). Her innocence and ability to recognize what her mother was trying
to invoke fear in her actually directed Maxine to think in a contradictory way. As a result of this
evolved critical thinking, Maxine never once characterized her dead aunt as a humiliation. From her
narrative, Maxine overlooked her actions and commended her resilience. Although directly not stated
within the text, Maxine expanded the definition of what it meant to be a warrior and gave this insight
that her aunt can be characterized

Analysis Of Moonlight By Barry Jenkins
Barry Jenkins Moonlight depicts the coming of age of a young black boy as he struggles with and
endures abuse for his sexuality, causing him to hide his internal conflicts. The life of the protagonist,
Chiron, is split into his three main stages of life, with each part focusing on the physical and emotional
abuse he endures due to his homosexual orientation. When the viewer first meets Chiron, he is
running from bullies. As he ages, the bullying follows him, causing him to harden and avoid
vulnerability in his adult life. Jenkins uses climactic scenes in Chiron s life to portray how prejudice
against black sexuality forces him to conceal his true identity. In Moonlight, Jenkins cinematic style
illustrates Chiron s public and private ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scene culminates with the characters distancing themselves from both each other and the
audience. Rather than following the characters as they leave, the camera stays stable, leaving an empty
space on screen in their absence. This absence of a figure on screen in their house hints at Chiron s
lack of a home, a safe place to explore his individuality.
Jenkins lighting and sound are also essential to the portrayal of this scene as a key moment in Chiron s
struggle with his identity. These elements characterize Paula as an impeding obstacle to Chiron s self
discovery. Chiron s face here is highlighted, while his mother s face is covered in shadows. This
contrasts the two, indicating that the audience should be on Chiron s side and see the darkness within
Paula. Typically, mothers in films are basked in warm light, indicating their nurturing relationships
with their children. The shadows covering Paula s face, therefore, suggest that she is an absent mother
figure, which soils Chiron s natural maturation. Furthermore, no sound can be heard from Paula,
though the audience can read her lips and understand the nature of their conversation. Instead,
classical music is audible. The use of no sound further establishes Paula as an absent figure in Chiron
s life because she is seen, but not heard. Paula s body is basked in pink light until the end of the scene,
when the light fades to reveal bluish green walls. In this film, Jenkins uses the

  • 2. Personality Traits Of An Individual Personality Essay Individual Personalities Personality is defined as, the sum total of ways in which an individual reacts and interacts with others and personality traits are defined as, enduring characteristics that describe an individual s behavior. (Robbins and Judge, 2009) Describing an individual s behavior can be tricky and trying to change an individual s personality is near impossible. Business managers have the task of implementing a leadership style that thrives in their perspective business. However, in order for their particular style of leadership to be a success they need to understand the role personalities play in business organizations. Team members personalities may dictate what style a leader ultimately decides to implement, just as, employers will look to hire individuals with personalities similar to that of the company. Hiring managers need to be in tune with personalities and how they may help benefit their bottom line. This process is accomplished by the use of personality tests, which have been around since the early 1900 s. Jung Typology Test One of the most common personality tests is the Jung Typology Test. Jung is known as one of the pioneers in the field of psychology, along with Sigmund Freud. His research gave light to the idea of psychological types. • 4. Sacred Spaces To answer this question best I think it is important for me to define what religious and secular mean to me. The two words seem obviously definable, but some people may have different interpretations of what quantifies as religious. To me, for somewhere to be religious it has to have a clear connection to an established religion. A place that is secular, however, has no solid link to religion. I do believe that sacred spaces can stem both from the secular as well as the religious. Jerusalem is a great example of a sacred space that has emerged from the religious. The three main Abrahamic religions consider it to be a sacred space, which helps the space maintain a connection with a feeling of transcendence. On the other hand, national parks ... • 5. In The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fist Fight In Heaven No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. Unfortunately Native Americans have deep roots with racism and oppression during the last 500 years. In The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven, Sherman Alexie tries to show racism in many ways in multiple of his short stories. These stories, engage our history from a Native American viewpoint. Many Native Americans were brutally forced out of their homes and onto Reservations that lacked resources. Later, Indian children were taken from their families and placed into school that were designed to, Kill the Indian, save the man. In the book there are multiple short story that are pieces that form a larger puzzle that shows the struggles and their effects on Native Americans. Sherman Alexie shows the many sides of racism, unfair justice and extermination policies and how imagination is key for Native American survival. Sherman Alexie show how non Native Americans treat Native Americans in court and day to day life. In the story of The Trial of Thomas Builds the Fire Thomas is charged for crimes that he did not commit and yet he was still sentenced to two consecutive lifetime sentences Mr. Builds the Fire, you do admit, willingly, that you murdered two soldiers in cold blood and with premeditation? . ... • 6. Is It Proper to place someone in jail for a seatbelt... States across the nation have seat belt laws in place that make it a requirement for drivers and passengers in vehicles that are being operated on public streets to wear some sort of safety belt. In 1998, 41,471 people were killed in 6,334,000 reported motor vehicle accidents in the United States. Seat belts are estimated to save 9,500 lives each year, and statistics show a higher degree of seat belt use in states that aggressively enforce seat belt laws. The laws, as well as the punishments available for violation of the laws vary by state. In most states, however, it is considered a misdemeanor and punishable by a small fine. The properness of an arrest for such violations is a good question and has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When trying to determine whether or not it is proper to put someone in jail for violating the seat belt law courts must examine the state s statutes to determine whether or not an arrest could be deemed a violation of the citizens Fourth Amendment rights. The Fourth Amendment provides the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. Historically courts have evaluated these cases by first determining if probable cause existed to make the arrest. Next, they look at the reasonableness of the arrest, with reasonableness being measured as an objective standard, not by the arresting officers state of mind. In the case of Dunaway v. New York the court stated that the probable cause standard applies to all arrests, without the need to balance the interests and circumstances involved in a particular situation. In other words, if and officer arrests an individual whom he or she believes to have committed even a minor crime in his presence there has been no violation committed. The cases of both Whren v. • 7. The Role of Music During and After Puerto Rican Migration... The Role of Music During and After Puerto Rican Migration to the United States For Puerto Ricans, music served infinite purposes. It allowed for the formation and reformation of cultural views and opinions, through the lyrics in the songs. These views were constantly changing, which in turn fed into the ever evolving identity of the Puerto Rican people. As a vehicle of expression it stimulated thought and provided a method of communication for the community. In The Puerto Rican community of New York City the increasing popularity of music indicated a desire for Puerto Rican based and oriented entertainment but more importantly for national unity. For the musicians themselves music served as an outlet for creativity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Puerto Rican society was not devoid of color consciousness or prejudice, but racial categories were different that in the United States (53). Once on the mainland the musicians encountered an entirely different system for the categorization of people. A more simplistic system that relied on the hue of the skin as opposed to facial features, hair texture, ...wealth or occupation (53). Namely those who had white skin were placed into one category and those that did not into another. The racist tendencies of the Americans led to the negation of all that was black by the Puerto Rican community. Puerto Ricans were much more prone to settle in pockets with their lighter compatriotas than to except external definitions of themselves and move into the black American sections of Harlem (73). The focus on race does not imply that money did not play an important role in American society either, however, it did not play a major role in the book. Glasser employs racially descriptive terms, throughout the book, that are confusing and unintelligible. These terms are found frequently, although they are not previously explained. Often the term itself describes two different groups. One such term is white which at one point means North American and yet on other occasions it means a Light skinned Puerto Rican. Within the span of two pages Glasser speaks of latin relief bands that were made up of whites only (76). The clear implication here is that the Latin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Refugee Journey Credit 3: The Refugee Journey from Syria to Madison Module 2 Becoming a Refugee The United Nations High Commissioner Refugees (UNHCR) is an international organization that works to protect and assist refugees anywhere in the world, by providing shelter, health, safeguarding individuals, assessing global needs and advocating for those population (UNHCR, 2016). In fact, the 5 groups the UNHCR helps are refugees in Eastern of Turkey, The diaspora from Africa, refugees in South America, refugees in Middle East and refugees from Syria (Salopek, 2015). Generally, refugees are those who flee from inevitable, often long term violence and other difficult living conditions brought on by the conflict. The United Nations more narrowly defines refugees as persons who are outside their country and cannot return owing to a well founded fear of persecution because of their race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group (UNHCR, 2016). Those are groups of people who leave their home to another country for safety purpose. However, all people who flee conflict cannot be called refugees, refugee agencies commonly distinguish between refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) to decide who is covered by international law and receives assistance and who does not. For the most part, little assistance reaches a person fleeing a conflict until he or she crosses an international border. The United Nations distinguishes refugees and IDPs ... • 10. Telecommuting Suggestion Report The first course of action this tech firm should take is to create a productivity report to analyze the current state of the company s workforce. It was mentioned that the organization already has fifty employees telecommuting. However, the head executives have yet to make a formalized plan. This was a large oversight that could have potentially caused a lot of tension between the two groups of employees. Although guidelines should have been created before telecommuting began, it will help show any differences between the two groups in the productivity report. A suggestion for how the report should be created and implemented would be to weigh whatever task is most important for each job and compare the performance between onsite and telecommuting staff members. Having this information will help determine if the company should even allowing working off site all together. Unfortunately, the prompt did not specify how well telecommuting had been working for the firm before asking for suggestions. Hypothetically we will say that the percentage of productivity for off site workers was equally as high as on site. A company would have a difficult time if everyone telecommutes, however, it would be wise to allow some flexibility in work schedules. The tech firm could include temporary off site work as well. For example, allowing an employee with a cold to work at home or if a deadline is pressing and a staff member works better at home. If the company executives decide to allow a ... • 11. Determinants of Carbon Dioxide Emissions in the... Introduction The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Goddard Institute for Space Studies (2014) states that global surface temperature in 2013 was +0.6°C (~1.1°F) warmer than the 1951 1980 base period average, thus the seventh warmest year in the GISS analysis. Global warming has always been correlated by the increasing amount of greenhouse gases, which carbon dioxide is notoriously known for, in the Earth s atmosphere. Many environmental activists are putting pressures to every facet of society and making them aware about the harm of the continuously increasing carbon dioxide emission that the world is experiencing. The Philippines is already starting to experience sudden extreme changes in its climate and natural disasters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this objective, the author thinks that there is a need to empirically determine the impact of macroeconomic determinants on carbon dioxide emissions. Significance Oftentimes, human nature dictates us to spur the most from what we have, thus, it is natural for greed and tunnel vision for growth to be in the minds of many businessmen, policymakers, or any citizen in the population. However, in many cases, these men fail to recognise that more than monetary costs, many of human actions entail environmental repercussions. The significance of this study can be derived from the essence of the variables that are going to be used in this study. Gross domestic product, foreign direct investment, exports, imports, energy use, and urban population relates with economic development. On the other hand, carbon dioxide emissions in this study, relates to environmental sustainability. Given these two, the study will give the reader insights, more or less, on how the Philippine population treats economic development along side environmental sustainability. Through the individual effects of the independent variables, we can infer not only about what those variables contribute to carbon dioxide emissions, but also see the level of environmental awareness that the population injects while inspiring development in the country. With the completion of the paper, we are bringing in practicality and the picture of reality that the Philippine economy and its society is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Often times we as younger generation believe that older people just nag all the time and to get rid of that nagging we send them to nursing homes or to an organization that will take care of them. Elder people do not realize what they are saying or doing because a lot of them have health problem that can or cannot be treated, they are babies and as youngest generation we do not see that or understand. Most older people have hard time taking care of their self, cleaning their homes or surroundings and live in that dirty environment because they have health problems and some do not even know what generation they are living in. in the book The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey the author Walter Mosley presents a novel about an elder black man whose having memory problem and cannot remember anyone in his family, friends and himself and his been forgotten by his family. The partnership can be of great benefit as it is a good way of saving on taxes. b) The decision to invest in projects increases the shareholders value of the company. The optimal capital structure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How does Marriott use its estimate of its cost of capital? Does this make sense? a) Discounted cash flows from the projects by the suitable division of a hurdle rate to get the net present value which financially makes sense since risks among different divisions do vary. b) Another method is through incorporation of the hurdle rate in the compensation policy which in sense does not make sense since the rate does reflect risks of different activities and not managers performance. 3. What is the weighted average cost of capital for Marriott Corporation? Marriot Corporation measures the opportunity cost of the cost of capital for the investments using the weighted average cost of capital for similar investments that have the same risk. The WACC for the corporation is 11.89%. a) What risk free rate and the risk premium did you use to calculate the cost of equity? • 18. American Civil Society On The Iranian Nuclear Deal Introduction In examining the impact of American civil society on the Iranian nuclear deal, it is absolutely critical to recognize that, in historical perspective, the American population has had very little impact on foreign policy. As Almond asserts, the American population has typically viewed politics as a phenomenon that ends at the water s edge, and has consequently participated only minimally in debates over foreign affairs. Noting that discussions of foreign policy have not historically been prominent within American civil society and that the parties have not truly sought to socialize voters on the basis of foreign policy derived cleavages, Almond is thus pointing to a context wherein the American political system is not one in which civil society has historically mobilized itself so as to support or oppose given elements of national foreign policy. With Almond also proposing that Americans attitudes towards these foreign policy phenomena tend to be simplistic and often premised on incorrect factual information, Almond thus makes it clear that American civil society does not typically engage with foreign policy, and largely lacks the capacity for doing so. The work of Converse goes further and suggests that the American party system, historically aligned on the traditional conservative liberal dichotomy, is not one that has created a consistent space for civil societal discussion of foreign policy issues. Rather, and given that this dichotomy has socialized the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Welfare is described as being a strategy used by dominant classes in society (Ruscheinsky,2000). Welfare is also part of media strategies. Known as media welfare, it is when the audience believe that a channel, a show or a host are good and deserve to be watched, because they help people, i this way perpetuating the dependency relationship, as in other types of welfare (Augusti, 2007). Evidence suggests it is not uncommon for students to be placed in an inappropriate group for their ability level (Ireson Hallam 1999; MacIntyre Ireson 2002, as cited in Muijs Dunne, 2010). Muijs and Dunne (2010) uncovered during their research that middle bands and even the high band contained students with low test scores. The findings of Muijs and Dunne (2010) suggest the process in place to group students according to their ability is unreliable. Hallinan (2003) reported the process teachers were taking was to group students by standardised test scores, prior achievement and the recommendations of teachers and counselors. The benefit of homogeneous ability grouping is the opportunity to provide students with differentiated instruction based on their ability level. • 24. Roxy Paine, Conjoined Essay The piece of art that I have chosen is Roxy Paine s Conjoined created in 2007. This is a representational piece depicting a pair of trees taken from nature and joined by their branches. The trees themselves are cylindrical, smooth and shiny from all angles. They reflect light from all sides creating a mirror like appearance. The branches initially flow upward but then gradually flow into the middle where they are conjoined. They are located in Madison Square Park where they seem to blend in with the rest of the trees but they definitely manage to stand out. Because they serve no function other than visual I consider this sculpture to be fine art. Roxy Paine welds cylindrical stainless steel pipes and rods to form and shape these two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stainless steel is more expensive than standard steel. Paine has studied and observed they way trees grow and this has allowed him to form his own artistic rendition. Paine uses the visual element of Direction and Movement to make the trees appear like they are growing into each other or being pulled apart. The branches are tapering at the tips and flowing to the side almost like a windstorm is blowing them over. Looking at the trees you get a real sense of struggle between forces. They look like they are pulling apart but at the same time trying to overtake one another. He also uses the visual element of Shape and Mass. The trees are 3D representation of actual trees. They are over 40 foot tall and very heavy; therefore they consume a large amount of volume and mass. The trees appear to be constructed from geometric shapes but also try to follow the form of nature in a more organic way. Since the two trees are a sculpture they are naturally 3D but their reflection caused by light shining on the stainless steel reminds us of their intricate details. The trees have a very strong gray monochromatic earth tone caused by the steel. A Principle of Design that Paine emphasizes is Unity. The trees are conjoined, rendering them as one, as a whole, they are in unison. The trees appear to be to scale when compared to the other trees in the park. They are not too small nor do the feel out of place. There is a strong emphasis near the middle of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The point here is not to throw out conventional strategic analysis based on industrial economics but simply to note that the source of competitive advantage has always shifted over time. What these five successful firms tend to have in common is that for their sustained advantage, they rely not on technology, patents, or strategic position, but on how they manage their workforce. The Importance of the Workforce and How It is Managed As other sources of competitive success have become less important, what remains as a crucial, differentiating factor is the organization, its employees, and how they work. Consider, for instance, Southwest Airlines, whose stock had the best return from 1972 to 1992. It certainly did not achieve that success from economies of scale. In 1992, Southwest had revenues of $1.31 billion and a mere 2.6% of the U.S. passenger market.4 People Express, by contrast, achieved $1 billion in revenues after only 3 years of operation, not the almost 20 it took Southwest. Even though two of the writers of Legalism were students of Xinzu, a philosopher of Confucianism, there are more of differences than similarities between the two. Because of this, legalism, which preceded the concept of Confucianism, had a lot of reasons why Confucianism was considered wrong. While towards the fall of the Qin Dynasty, Confucian beliefs started to revamp and become more widely accepted and thus they were blended together to some extent, this was not the case beforehand, in fact it could be argued that blending the two together seemed almost impossible. Confucianism stressed the ideas of the knowledge, humaneness, and filial piety while legalism stressed power, rewards and punishments, and agricultural wealth. Thus from a legalist standpoint, Confucianism was considered wrong because it placed value on virtues instead of the laws, focusing on education to prosper growth and moral character instead of simply obeying societal laws and valuing agricultural wealth rather than humaneness Thus differences far exceed similarities between these two ancient beliefs. However, both have made everlasting marks on Chinese culture and tradition that to this day still exists. Using rWalMart = Rf + βWalMart [E(RM) RF], we find the required rate of return to be 7.01% and in line with the information given in the case outline. Perpetual dividend growth model: The standard method of calculating a stock price using the perpetual dividend growth model is done by assessing a company s dividend one year into the future adding the future expected growth rate. The formula is written as: P0 = D1/(Ke − g), where Ke is the investor required return, D1 is next year s dividend and g is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By calculating the dividend per share until D=3 and employing: P0 = D1/(1+Ke)^1 + D2/(1+Ke)^2 + D3/(1+Ke)^3+TV/(1+Ke)^3, where TV is the terminal value we calculate the present day intrinsic value of the Wal Mart stock to be $62.15 hence the market value is consider low compared to our forecasted value. This method replicates the basic foundation of the Discount Cash flow Model (DCF), which in our opinion is the preferred method in valuation studies. Three Stage Approach: There are no questions about this approach in the outline of the assignment, so the following comments should be considered back of an envelope considerations. In general the three stage approach allows us to add complexity to the standard dividend discount models by enabling changing growth scenarios throughout the forecasting period: an initial period of higher than normal growth, a transition/consolidation period of declining growth and final a period of stable growth. The main assumptions are that the company on which we conduct the calculation study currently is in extraordinary strong growth phase. The time period with the extraordinary strong growth must be strictly defined and eventually be replaced with the declining growth assumption. Lastly, Capital Expenditures and Depreciation are expected to grow at the same rate as revenues. . Analyzing exhibit 4 we see a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While the speaker thoroughly observes all kinds of scenes in the pond, the painter only focuses on the lily. At the end of the poem, the painter resolves on painting only the lily, ignoring the other aspects of the pond. The speaker critiques the painter s lack of attention to the surrounding and the desire to capture only the beautiful part of the pond. The poem contrasts the beauty and the violence created by the creatures around the lily and conveys that the calm appearance of the pond is not necessarily the reality. There is a strict requirement by the Internal Revenue Service to taxpayers requiring them to follow appropriate guidelines as they try to make a determination on whether an activity is a profit making investment activity or as a hobby or pastime. These guidelines are meant for taxation purposes and serve to ensure that the taxpayers are taxed fairly, and they pay all taxes that are due. Failure to indicate profits or losses made in a hobby or business venture may have an impact on the tax liability of an individual. • 41. The Effects Of Prenatal Screening On Children Prenatal screening is used to detect any potential diseases or disabilities that a fetus may have or develop in the future. Many procedures are done to test said fetus, including analyzing a sample of amniotic fluid or testing a few cells from the placenta. Various genetic disorders are tested for, such as mental retardation, sickle cell anemia, and Tay Sachs. Once informed of a fetus potential defects, the parents can then decide to either carry the fetus to full term or terminate the pregnancy. As with any situation concerning a human life, this has produced ethical issues. For those who believe prenatal screening followed by abortion is acceptable consider it a moral duty for parents to prevent a disease or disability that could cause their child suffering if they have the means to do so. Just as a mother can change her diet during a pregnancy to prevent a mental disorder, parents can choose to abort a fetus to prevent that child from having a life of pain and suffering. To not prevent a disease or disorder is to disregard a child s basic human desire to live a normal, healthy life, and is thus unfair to the child. Further advantages of prenatal screening are that it helps minimize overall suffering in the world and promotes general welfare. It also not only prevents the child from physical and emotional distress but it prevents a family s emotional and economical distress, too. Although prenatal screening and abortion procedure may be relatively expensive, it could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Electricity plays an important role toward economic growth as it is essential in using pieces of equipment that are used in the manufacturing processes of various products (ESMAP 8). The increasing population and expanding economy contribute to the increase in the demand for electricity. Especially in summer, there are many people would like to stay at home with the air conditioning on rather than having activities outdoors. Currently, China is the major consumer of electricity because of the huge population and industrial demand. However, the electricity produced in this country is not enough to supply its needs (Global Energy). The economic progress could not pursue if there is insufficient amount of energy that any country could use. Electricity shortage can happen if the available supply in an area cannot meet its demand. If this situation is prolonged, the price of the electricity might increase. Different countries experience electricity shortages because of the increasing demand for electricity. As the executive body of a nation, the government has implemented other strategies to deal with the problem, such as energy saving methods and restriction of electricity used. Throughout the course of a month we learned a lot about the root causes of poverty America as a hegemon through both readings and discussion. • 46. The Pioneer Investigation And Findings From Brown Kulik... Recollections of vivid autobiographical episodic memories formed when an individual experiences intense emotions, generating from a surprising public event defines Flashbulb memories (FBMs). Permanent and consistent remembrances processed cognitively and stored as explicit recollections in long term memory are additional features of FBMs (Goldstein, 2014). Brown Kulik (1977) first proposed this phenomenon and argued FBMs are resistant to change like photographs. The ongoing debate over the process of cognition in relation to storing and recalling FBMs led numerous researchers to advance their understanding of the mental processing of FBMs and to evaluate the impact emotions have on memories. This paper discusses the pioneer investigation and findings from Brown Kulik s 1977. It further explores debates opposing their unique theory of FBMs and the apparent inadequacies of their conclusions. Additionally, this paper examines plausible hypotheses from researchers for the formation of FBMs like rehearsal of events and the inconsistencies of FBMs, their distortions and the decay FBMs experience over time. It then evaluates a contemporary study on FBMs and the necessity for future studies to develop a method to measure FBMs. This is imperative in order to gain a deeper understanding of the influences emotions have on shaping, processing and storing FBMs cognitively and consequently how it impacts on our daily lives. Today, the definition of what it means to be a warrior has become ambiguous. Often times, we view those willing to sacrifice their lives for others soldiers, police officers, or firefighters as warriors. Even expanded in this way, the warrior still has a connotation of physical bravery, masculine strength, and unhindered confidence. However, the word warrior can have an entirely new meaning when we use it in a literary context. It can be defined as a person who is simply fighting for convictions and values that are morally and ethically right. When the viewer first meets Chiron, he is running from bullies. As he ages, the bullying follows him, causing him to harden and avoid vulnerability in his adult life. The scene culminates with the characters distancing themselves from both each other and the audience. Rather than following the characters as they leave, the camera stays stable, leaving an empty space on screen in their absence. This absence of a figure on screen in their house hints at Chiron s lack of a home, a safe place to explore his individuality. Jenkins lighting and sound are also essential to the portrayal of this scene as a key moment in Chiron s struggle with his identity. These elements characterize Paula as an impeding obstacle to Chiron s self discovery. Chiron s face here is highlighted, while his mother s face is covered in shadows. This contrasts the two, indicating that the audience should be on Chiron s side and see the darkness within Paula. Typically, mothers in films are basked in warm light, indicating their nurturing relationships with their children. The shadows covering Paula s face, therefore, suggest that she is an absent mother figure, which soils Chiron s natural maturation. Furthermore, no sound can be heard from Paula, though the audience can read her lips and understand the nature of their conversation. Instead, classical music is audible. The use of no sound further establishes Paula as an absent figure in Chiron s life because she is seen, but not heard.
