The plea bargain is a vital part of the criminal justice system today. Before the 1800s when an offender
was caught there would be a trial and verdict. The plea bargain are for defendant s to plead guilty to a
lesser offense or to at least one charge especially if there are multiple indictments. Defendants will
plead guilty in hopes of leniency, and at least 90 percent of criminal cases end in a plea bargains. A
majority of criminal cases in many jurisdictions will end in a plea bargaining. In the case North
Carolina v. Alford, Mr. Alford is accused of Capital murder. The penalty for a guilty plea is
imprisonment for life, however, if the defendant pleads innocent and the jury rules him guilty the
death penalty attaches. Prior to the trial, Mr. Alford accepted a plea bargain. The bargaining requires
him to plead guilty to murder in the second degree, the penalty of which is 30 years.
Later on Alford does appeals his case, stating that his agreement to the bargain was involuntary as it
was driven by fear of the death penalty. Mr. Alford s conviction was overturned however, the Supreme
Court states that a guilty plea is a voluntary decision and is not compelled within his Fifth Amendment
rights of Self Incrimination. In a 6 to 3 decision, the Court then reverses the appeal and reinstates his

Conducting my research supporting a vacation on Easter Island, an atypical destination filled with
mystery and intrigue, I realized this destination is a must, not only for the adventure, but also for the
opportunity to experience a place not everyone is willing to expend the time and expense involved in
visiting, a vacation is ultimately a chance to escape the everyday drudgery and routine, all these
reasons make Easter Island the perfect, eclectic, vacation spot to enjoy a once in a lifetime

Pot and the Khmer Rouge started the genocide on April 17th, 1975 when they evacuated the city of

their actions devastated all of Cambodia. Millions of Cambodians were displaced from their homes

famine have also affected many Cambodians after the genocide. Despite this, many Cambodians were
willing to share their gruesome past. For example, Loung Ung, Cambodian genocide survivor, wrote
the memoir First They Killed My Father. Her memoir describes her struggles as a five year old girl
leaving behind everything she considered as home. Through her experiences, she communicates to her

An interactive system is a piece of software or a device which requires human input. It consists of a
user interface which the user interacts with to access the underlying functions, described formally in
code. This allows the user to easily manipulate the system in order to complete some task. An
important subset of interactive systems is safety critical interactive systems (a system in which errors
can lead to injury or even death to the user). Unfortunately, the testing of these systems is currently
inadequate, resulting in serious harm or even fatalities (see [1] [2]).
A test is de ned in the Oxford Dictionary as: A procedure intended to establish the quality,
performance, or reliability of something, especially before it is taken into widespread use ; [3]. The
purpose of interactive system testing is not only to ensure that the system does what it is expected to,
but also to identify problems within the current version of the system. The resolution of these
problems will help to establish the quality, performance and/or reliability [3] of the system and help to
avoid future incidents.

has only recently realized that its old formula has not translated well into the current market. Part of its
plan to become an active competing member in its industry relies on several factors within the
company that can be analyzed, modified using a financial analysis. The financial ratios will let them
identify their problem areas in comparison to their industry competitors.
Ratio Analysis The return on capital employed (ROCE) ratio is a profitability ratio that measures how
well profits are being generated based on capital employed. RadioShack s ROCE dropped down to
34% in 2013 in comparison to 10% in 2012. For every dollar of capital employed, RadioShack is
losing $0.34. The dramatic dip stems from 2012 s positive earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT)
of 155.1 million dollars to 2013 s EBIT of 344 million dollars (see Appendix A for financial statement

Psycholinguists are interested in the role of concreteness and imagery in mental processing. The dual
coding theory proposes that mental representations are associated with two distinct systems: the verbal
system, which deals specifically with language and the non verbal imagery system, which deals with
nonlinguistic objects and events (Clark Paivio 1991; Harley 2008; Paivio et al. 1988). The two
systems are distinct, yet they are interconnected to each other in a way that activation in one system
can lead to activation in the other. For example, one can think of the word apple and also visualize the
object apple. The dual coding theory holds that concrete language has the ability to activate both the
verbal and the visual system, while abstract language activates only the verbal system (Clark Paivio
1991; Kounios Holcomb 1994).
Previous studies in the field have shown that the imagery and concreteness of a word can influence its
identification. Specifically, it has been suggested that imagery can produce better performance in
learning and recall because of our ability to access existing mental representations and use them as
memory aids. The guiding question following from this is: Are concrete words indeed superior to
abstract words in their ability to evoke mental images? This paper intends to explore the dual coding
