Essay The Louvre Palace, Pei s Bank of China Tower in Hong...
PEI S OTHER WORKS
One of his buildings that really captured my attention is the aforementioned Bank of China Tower in
Hong Kong. The structural expressionism adopted in the design of this building is supposed to
resemble growing bamboo shoots, symbolising livelihood and prosperity. The whole structure is
supported by the five steel columns at the corners of the building, with the triangular frameworks
transferring the weight of the building onto these five columns. It is covered with glass curtain walls,
and it s unique appearance means that it remains one of Hong Kong s most distinguishable buildings.
However, like the Louvre it has caused quite a large amount of controversy, as it is the only major
building in Hong Kong that bypassed the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although changes had been made it still kept to Paris traditional appearance and was installed within
the former Orsay railway station. Between 1900 through to 1939 it was known as the Gare d Orsay
and was seen as the head of the southwestern French railroad network. However, after 1939, the
station was to serve only the suburbs, as its platforms had become too short for the modern, longer
trains that appeared with the progressive modernisation of the railroads.
In 1975, the Direction des Musées de France had considered installing a new museum within the train
station, in which all of the arts from the second half of the 19th century would be displayed. The
station at this time was threatened with demolition and was to be replaced by a large scale hotel
complex, however due to the revival of interest in nineteenth century architecture it became listed on
the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments on March 8, 1973. It wasn t until October 1977
that the official decision to construct the Musée d Orsay went ahead.
The building was then classified as a Historical Monument in 1978, and a civil commission was
created to oversee the construction of the museum. The modification of the original rail station into a
museum was accomplished by ACT architecture group, made up of M. Bardon, M. Colboc and M.
Philippon. Their scheme was chosen in 1979 out of six proposals, and would respect Laloux s

Christina Rossetti
Christina Rossetti, an English Victorian poet lived an early life full of hardships with her relations.
When she was seventeen years old a painter named James Collinson proposed to her. She accepted,
but later in 1850 she broke off the engagement because Collinson reverted to Catholicism. She refused
a second proposal from linguist Charles Bagot Cayley for his religious beliefs, and also a third from
the painter John Brett. In addition to her relationships, earlier Rossetti s father had been diagnosed
with tuberculosis and depression before his death in 1854, forcing the entire family to work to pay off
the financial vacuum he had left (poetryfoundation.org). Rossetti herself suffered from ill mental
health, and she frequently used poetry as an outlet for her problems, expressing her dilemmas through
works of writing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the poem, Rossetti utilizes imagery to demonstrate the superficial relationship between
two lovers and likens it to the two gazing into a pool. In the beginning, the narrator says that both
were not hand in hand, yet heart in heart, I think (3). By using the two physical people as a metaphor
for the relationship between them, the speaker describes it as heart in heart yet not hand and hand ,
which demonstrates the lack of absolute commitment in their relationship. The I think at the end also
serves a diction purpose, added into the line to question if the two ever were heart in heart , again

Women In Olaudah Equiano
Men vs. Women in Slavery
Slavery in America began in the seventeenth century and continued for well over two hundred years.
The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano was published in 1789 during the
International Slave Trade. The Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl , by Harriet Jacobs, was published
seventy two years later. Shortly after Jacobs published her autobiography, the United States outlawed
slavery, putting an end to hundreds of years of the Middle Passage. It is commonly known that the
relationship between slaves and their masters was tremendously unbalanced throughout slavery.
Masters exerted extreme control over their slaves. What is not widely known is the contrast between
the experiences of enslaved men and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Olaudah Equiano was kidnapped and sold into slavery at the age of eleven. Throughout his
autobiography entitled The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano , Equiano recounts
his fear throughout his journey of an enslaved man. This story describes the repulsive side of slavery
through the Middle Passage. Towards the beginning of the story, the author discusses the experience
of arriving on the ship that would take him to the Americas: I was immediately handled, and tossed up
to see if I were sound, by some of the crew (Equiano 521). This gives insight into the cruel treatment
of the colored by the whites. Men were examined and picked apart, according to their appearance;
they were judged physically on their ability to do work for the people they were being sold to. Masters
needed strong men to work in the fields. Further on, Olaudah says, I was soon put under the decks,
and there I received such a salutation in my nostrils as I had ever experienced in my life (Equiano
521). This portrays the uncleanliness of the ships in the Middle Passage. Although stench does not
illicitly describe physical abuse, it represents a form of abuse extended on men in the Middle Passage.
Being in an enclosed space with no oxygen flow physically damages Equiano s ability to walk and eat.
To go into more depth, the author includes the result of being stuck under the decks of the ship: I
became so sick and low that I was unable to eat (Equiano 521). As a result of the extreme conditions
on board, many slaves fell victim to illnesses. The physical abuse mentioned previously lead to mental
abuse of Olaudah

15 November 2016 Death is something that no one can escape. The perception towards death are very
different throughout historical time period. In pre modern times, death was not something that much
society thought about. Nowadays with the advancement of modern science and technology, it affected
society to have a sense of hope and refusal to accept death. It s a difficult to witness a deceased one
gone at an instance, but that has not always been the case for certain society. The perception has
changed with technological advancemment. There are some advantage and disadvantages with medical

result from intercessory prayer or a touch by a faith healer. In one telephone survey of almost 600
randomly selected adults, 14% reported they had experienced divine healing of a serious disease or

Video Games Are The Most Revolutionary Form Of Art
To quote the famous game designer Santiago Sir Games are not just art, they are the most
revolutionary form of art mankind has ever known about . Video games are a hybrid form of art that
brings together multiple forms of art. Video games are very aesthetic. They achieve this through the
use of their realistic graphics, in depth development of the story, and the emotional attachment built
overtime with the game. Video games have come a long way in the development of the graphics
system. To really understand the substantial innovations that have been made, one needs to understand
where the original graphics started. The original video games used vector based graphics, which uses
geometric primitives to produce an image. This was common for arcade games. These vector based
graphics were mainly two dimensional and had little detail. For the time that these games released it
was an amazing feat of art that they could use math to produce these images and have a reaction
through the use of a joystick and buttons. Video games of the modern time we live in have blown this
feat of the past out of the water. The common form of producing graphics in a video game now uses
resolution based bitmap graphics to develop images. These image can be three or two dimensional and
have detail down to a bead of sweat rolling down your cheek or the swift movement of the grass and
landscape. Skyrim is a modern day video game that has achieved this feat of art. Skyrim s new game

The Helping Process
The Helping Process Journal 1 Definition: Helping is about other people in need of help to improve or
grow towards their personal goals which build on their abilities for managing with their life. The
experience I acquired over the years of my adulthood is described as informal method of helping
process. Reading this chapter on helping process, create an understanding on what I have been doing
for people directly or indirectly. The text on helping process reminded me I have been practicing road
map through the complicated roadway of helping people. Sometimes I encountered problems with
regrets or happiness. These regrets was as a result of presumptive negative outcomes where the helpee
s parent it as been given wrong advice and but eventually ended with positive outcomes. On the flip
side, right from onset of the helping process, I see signs of confidence in whatever advice I am giving
and they followed through with positive outcomes. I feel happy in myself and the helpee s too feels
happy and confidence in the helping relationship. I recognized my limitations and I always expressly
discussed it right from the beginning of helping process. My suggestion to helpee is to seek
professional advice if necessary. The role I had played shows that I performed two simple phases of
building relationship and facilitating positive action. I have helped friends, families and acquaintances

Black Tailed Prairie Dogs
This profile is on the black tailed prairie dog. It will be introducing their background, life cycle,
structure and function, evolution and an additional interest. It will also be going over their unique
social structure and the way they form communities called prairie towns, which are a large system of
burrows. The importance of burrows, in particular, to the black tailed prairie dog cannot be overstated.
Black Tailed Prairie Dogs
The black tailed prairie dog s scientific name is Cynomys ludovicianus that, colorfully, means dog
mouse of Louisiana. It lives in North America in the Great Plains region of the United States. Its
territory stretches all the way to the borders of Canada and Mexico, but not to the coasts. The black
tailed prairie dog is the most common and prolific of all prairie dogs, and has the largest territory.
Prairie dog towns, a system of burrows that are close together and can span miles, are subdivided into
wards, coteries, and individuals on a downward sliding scale depending on population size.
Life Cycle
Mating
The breeding season of black tailed prairie dogs varies depending on the temperature of their locale. In
warmer climates, breeding season may begin in what is still technically the winter. In colder climates,
the breeding season may not come until March. The breeding season is a once a year event that starts
when the lengthening hours of daylight after the winter solstice trigger onset of estrus (Graves, 2001).

Analysis Of The Show One Tree Hill
The definition of coming of age refers to the hardships and achievements in a young person s life. It is
the gradual development of a person and who they become. Sophia Bush plays the character, Brooke
Davis, in the show One Tree Hill. Brooke Davis is the character most girls can easily relate to. Sophia
Bush says her favorite part of the character she plays is her evolution . She starts off as a stereotypical
teenage cheerleader who seeks to be the center of attention and her happiness revolves around money.
Throughout the beginning of the series, Brooke is a young, carefree girl who is rambunctious. She
constantly went to parties and had many sexual relations with numerous amounts of boys. Emily
states, I hated her in the beginning because she was always trying to stir the pot, always creating
drama. Even though it may have appeared her life was not complicated, the many obstacles she faced
helped her transition from childhood to adulthood. She grows into a more sophisticated and grounded
young woman. Brooke Davis is introduced as the captain of the cheerleading team. She has a strong
friendship with Peyton Sawyer, who she calls her best friend. They have been best friends since
childhood. After helping Peyton cope with the death of her mother, their relationship grew and it
started to resemble more of a sister like relationship. Their friendship has always been very strong
despite their problems with [Lucas Scott] (Breyton). Brooke shows interest in Lucas,

Burmese pythons taking over the Everglades Imagine taking a walk in the Florida Everglades. Now
imagine that during that walk you come across a giant snake. In that snakes grip is a full sized White
tailed deer. The two are battling it out, but the snake is clearly winning, it does not stand a chance
against a full sized python. What could possibly be even worse than that would be a Burmese python
battling an alligator and winning? It has happened even though the snake did not make it away from
the fight. It looks like something out of a horror film and it is happening more than people might
think. This giant snake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many different efforts in place to slow the population growth of the Burmese python. Due to
the overwhelming amount of the non native pythons in the Everglades (which is expanding to the
Florida Keys and beyond) there has been a ban on Burmese pythons and 3 other constrictor snakes.
On January 17, 2012 the Federal Wildlife service declared a ban on overseas imports of the snakes as
well as interstate imports. That means the snakes are now illegal to bring into the United States as well
as just transporting over state lines (BIG snakes, 2012). Although there is now a ban in place some
feel that it is already too late to save the Florida Everglades. According to Steven A. Williams, former
director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) warns that invasive species are the number one
environmental threat to the United States. (BIG snakes, 2012) The federal government has spent
billions of dollars trying to slow or stop the threat of invasive species. In January 2013 in an effort to
curb the python problem Florida began it s very first ever python hunt. Thousands of hopeful hunters
have signed up for a month long challenge where prizes for the longest snake and others are up for
grabs. People from around the country have slithered their way to Florida in hopes of bagging a
Burmese python or two. As of January 25th

Women s Influence On The Field Of Psychology
Throughout the early days of psychology, opportunities for women where limited and it was an
extremely difficult time for women to become apparent in the field of psychology. Women struggled
for equality in the field of psychology and this began with our pioneers, Mary Whiton Calkins, who
sat her PhD but was never awarded it, Margaret Washburn, being the first women to be awarded a
PhD and Christine Ladd Franklin.
Since these women made their breakthrough there has been more and more women contributing their
knowledge to many areas in psychology such as, Anna Freud, who became influenced by her father s
theories and created her own theories in psychoanalysis. Karen Horney who contributed a substantial
amount to the personality theory and later became interested in feminine psychology, Melanie Klein
and Mary Ainsworth, just to name a few.
These women faced several societal constraints and long held beliefs about the role of women in their
era. At that time the societal belief was that women where intellectually inferior to men and
responding to this judgement, male psychologists attempted to develop theories about what could
happen to women if they did try to enter higher education.
This paper will outline the contribution to the field of psychology that has been made by a female
psychologist. This paper will focus on the contributions made by Mary D. Salter Ainsworth within her
field of Developmental psychology and her contributions to other theories within the same subject

A Study On Ecosystem Profile
Part A: Ecosystem Profile
On the 10th and 11th of August, Year 11 Biology students from Trinity Lutheran College went on a
fieldwork excursion to monitor the quality of water in the surrounding ecosystems of 3 lakes in the
Gold Coast region.
Aquatic ecosystems are an integral part of our environment and play an important role in maintaining
the quality of water. The quality of water is important in lakes because it doesn t just protect the health
of the public but it also provides ecosystem habitats, contributes to recreation and tourism and is used
for fishing, mining and farming. It s essential to measure the quality frequently so biotic and abiotic
features are surviving in a sustainable ecology. If the quality isn t maintained, not only will the
environment suffer but the recreational and commercial value of water resources will also reduce
(NSW Environment and Heritage, 2014). Water quality is measured using different tests to investigate
the pH, temperature, salinity, suspended solids, light penetration, nitrates and phosphates.
pH
The pH of water is a measure of its degree of acidity or alkalinity (Biology Textbook). Its scale has a
minimum of 0 and maximum of 14. The higher the number the more basic it is, the lower the number,
the more acidic it is. A pH of 7 is considered to be neutral. The pH of water determines the biological
availability and solubility of chemical components including nutrients and heavy metals (Department
of Ecology, n/d).

Comparing Frankenstein s Cinderella And Princess Culture
Little girls love everything about princesses: the beautiful doll replicas, the romantic love storybooks
and movies, and the glittering play clothes that come with authentic looking accessories and

may bring more than pink sparkles into their lives. When Peggy Orenstein s three year old daughter
entered the princess phase , Orenstein became increasingly frustrated and concerned. As a feminist,

visuals and entrancing soundtracks, and then strategically targeting them to audiences through the use
of powerful marketing campaigns. Disney Princesses have almost perfect fairytale bodies, beautifully
colored clothing, and storyline lifestyles that young girls have come to envy. But that is not the case
for princesses such as Pocahontas and Mulan. These princesses, who are arguably the most realistic

Karl Marx and Marxism
Karl Marx set the wheels of modern Communism and Socialism in motion with his writings in the late
nineteenth century. In collaboration with his friend, Heinrich Engels, he produced the The Communist

Karl Marx was very concerned with the class system in Prussia. He was an avid campaigner against a
system where one group of people flourish at the expense of another class, in this case the working.
He believed that all things should be equal, and that sharing should abound, with no one person
owning everything, all belonging to the state. Marx believed that once most workers recognized their
interests and became class conscious , the overthrow of capitalism would proceed as quickly and
democratically as the nature of the capitalist opposition allowed. The socialist society that would
emerge out of the revolution would develop the full productive potential inherited from capitalism
through democratic planning on behalf of social needs. The final goal, towards which socialist society
would constantly build, is the human one of abolishing alienation. Marx called the attainment of this
goal Communism.
Marxism in its various forms has affected the world greatly throughout time. Both world wars have
involved communist countries to a great extent.
Communism has gone wrong in many countries, with the state turning into an authoritarian one, with
a few people at the top abusing their power for their own personal gain, at the expense of the other
members of the public.
In conclusion, I believe that Marx s

Roles Of Women In The Civil War Essay
4 2 Final Project Milestone Two: Proposal and Annotated Bibliography
I am researching women in the American Civil War. I am concentrating on the gender lens, looking at
the perspective from the home front to the battlegrounds, how they fought for the American Civil War
cause just as the men did. The following four secondary sources, provide insight into my proposed
research topic.
Frank, Lisa Tendrich. Women in the American Civil War Vol 1. Santa Barbara, Calif.: ABC CLIO,
2008.
This book highlights essays that have been complied to describe, the significant contributions women
made during the Civil War both on the home front and on the battlefield. The author, Lisa Tendrich
Frank offers insight into the lives of unknown women who struggled, survived, and became
significant contributors to cause of the Civil War regardless of their affiliation.
Frank acknowledges contributions to the war from the wealthy to the destitute, and recognizes all
races and ethnic backgrounds, such as, white, Native American, and African. It is a reality check into
the lives of these women, who have not received proper affirmation for their valor. Frank describes the
role each of these women established, and how they went into survival mode, to portray themselves as
solider, spy, and nurse to name a few. On the home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a significant body of work that focuses on the historical facts about how these women had the
courage to step into these roles, trying to not be found out by others. They could not be themselves,
but had to consume another identity in order to survive. Hall has examined the gender lens thoroughly,
depicting these women as going above and beyond the call of war. He discusses that some women s
identities were discovered, but others died with secret. Hall s purpose is clear, his intent is to separate

Gaunilo s Ontological Argument
One of the criticisms of the ontological argument is by the monk Gaunilo. Gaunilo tries to use the
same concept of Anselm s argument to refute the claims he made. He tries to use the analogy of The

similar to the logical reasoning behind Anslem s argument. He reasons that the thought of a perfect

Analysis Of The Poem Bacchus Discovering Ariadne
Jacob Jordaens, Bacchus Discovering Ariadne, late 1640 s
This painting that I have found while venturing the Museum of Fine Arts has definitely caught my eye
for infinite reasons. Bacchus Discovering Ariadne by Jacob Jordaens was definitely a painting that has
a story, but the thing is, there isn t much about it, which is a challenge. Most of the focus in this
painting is set on Ariadne and the meeting between her and Bacchus. Not only that but the painting,
and all other paintings associated with this myth, focus on the shift from divine perfection to humanity
that is found in Renaissance and Baroque artwork. The oil painting made by Jacob Jordaens tells the
story of Ariadne, the princess of Crete, being deserted on the Island of Naxos by Theseus, the
Athenian prince who she helped escape from her father s labyrinth. Bacchus, whom is the god of
wine, and his satyrs discover her, and he falls in love with Ariadne. As a testimony of his devotion he
holds up her crown, which he will then toss into the heavens to create a constellation in her honor. In
this painting he shows Ariadne as an extremely feminine figure that s not only fair but regarded as
beautiful The body of Bacchus is sculpted showing the muscles in his legs and throughout the rest of
his body. But the contrast in this painting is striking. The contrast of this painting lies between the
structural elements of Bacchus and of the three satyrs that have accompanied him. These satyrs are in
dim lighting and less

Character Analysis OfThe Mill On The Floss
The sharp and unruly main character of The Mill on the Floss is Maggie Tulliver. She is a gell gone
nine, at the outset of the story, the daughter of the miller Mr. Tulliver, and lives with her family on the
banks of the Floss (Eliot 8, 9, 12). When Mr. and Mrs. Tulliver begin discussing the issue of Tom s
education in their first conversation of the story, they segue into discussion of his sister. While Mrs.
Tulliver derides Maggie for being unsensible, brown skinned, and altogether unlike her side of the
family, Mr. Tulliver defends her, saying she s a straight, black eyed wench as anybody need wish to
see. I don t know i what she s behind other folks s children; and she can read almost as well as the
parson, (Eliot 12). Maggie s parents further describe her physiognomy for the reader later in this
conversation. From Mrs. Tulliver s perspective, her daughter s hair exemplifies the issue with Maggie
s character. But her hair won t curl all I can do with it... an there s her cousin Lucy s got a row o curls
round her head, an not a hair out o place, Mrs. Tulliver frets (Eliot 12, 13). Maggie s mother feels that
her daughter is a comical mistake, with her dark, heavy locks, air of a small Shetland pony, and
likeness to a Bedlam creature, (Eliot 12, 13). Because of this dissatisfaction, Mrs. Tulliver is forever
attempting to make her daughter more similar to herself and to other folks s respectable, curly haired
children. Later in the story, Maggie s character is further established by juxtaposition to her brother
Tom. Tom Tulliver differs from Maggie not only in appearance, but also in garnering motherly
affection: Mrs. Tulliver continually speaks of him with great approbation and pride, greeting him as
my sweet lad! on his return from school (Eliot 30). In addition to this contrast in affection, a contrast
in physical character is evident between the siblings. Tom is described as a lad with light brown hair,
cheeks of cream and roses, full lips, indeterminate nose and eyebrows... the generic character to
boyhood, while Maggie is moulded and colored with the most decided intention, a dark eyed,
demonstrative, rebellious girl, though it is noted that these physical appearances

Fulfillment, Production and Warehouse management processes are concerned with goods movement
that triggers goods issue that will be further discussed.
Goods Issue
There are four types of goods movement types: goods receipt, goods issue, goods transfer and transfer
posting. Goods issue process plays a key role in fulfillment process (indicating a goods shipment to a
customer s sales order) and production (issuing of raw or semi finished materials to a production
order) and is triggered by warehouse management. Goods issue results in decrease of inventory levels.

Comparison of the Tempest and Forbidden Planet Essay
Jamie Roberts
ENGL 1000P2

Morbius Fatal Folly
As pointed out by Merrell Knighten in his essay called The Triple Paternity of Forbidden Planet, the
main difference between Shakespeare s The Tempest and the 1956 science fiction adaptation
Forbidden Planet (referred to as FP) is the use and control of power. In The Tempest, Prospero knows
what power he holds through the use of his books and spells, and ultimately uses these powers to
restore order to the island. However, in forbidden Planet, Morbius powers are unknown to him and
ultimately lead to his demise. This essay will show how Morbius may be considered a more disastrous
character than Prospero due to his lack of realization of the power which ... Show more content on

For Miranda s lover Ferdinand, the film inserts Commander Adams who is in fact the leader of the
rescue expedition sent to relieve Dr. Morbius and his supposed companions. There are no relations
between the film and the play with regards to Morbius fellow colonizers of Altair 4, but this has to do
with the fact that the film was a sci fi adaptation. The drunken butler Stephano is countered in the film
with the Tennessee bourbon sloshing space cook. The character of Caliban resonates in the film by use
of the Id monster, and finally Ariel is engrossed through the character of Robby the Robot. A closer
reading of some of the characters in FP will reveal parallels outlined by Campos. Campos shines light
on the fact that [Prospero and Morbius] are figures that, isolated from the rest of mankind, have
devoted their lives to the study of some books which have granted them an extraordinary, almost
supernatural power (Campos, 285). The main connections between the two are their utilization of
science and magic. As pointed out by Campos, the film gives a clear implication that science becomes
the magic of the future (286). This statement seems to be truthful as in Shakespeare s time magic
would be thought to be no different from the scientific breakthroughs of our time. For example a
Shakespearean audience would marvel at the strides science has taken in the modern day, such as the
utilization of electricity.

Analysis Of Robin Thicke s The Summer
In 2013, Robin Thicke, a relatively unknown but well seasoned R B singer, found major success in his
upbeat song Blurred Lines, which featured the big named artists Pharrell Williams and T.I.
(McKinley). The hit song broke records by spending 16 weeks on top of Billboard s Hot R B/Hip Hop
Song chart, its popularity earning it the title of Billboard s Song of the Summer (Ramirez). The
uncensored video on Vevo features three female models wearing nothing but shoes and nude colored
underwear dancing and strutting around Thicke, Williams, and T.I., who are fully dressed and
frequently seen looking at the women s bodies. Although Blurred Lines garnered extreme popularity,
it didn t go unnoticed that the lyrics and video, especially when paired together, tended to be off
putting for women, even though there was supposedly no intention of sexist allusions. When viewed
through the lens of Stuart Hall s Encoding/decoding model, the stark contrast between the creators
intended meaning of the Blurred Lines video and the way in which the audience perceived it

Trenton Leadership Style Analysis
Leadership
Review of Subject
Leadership has a variety of meanings to different individuals, often based upon the circumstance and
situation which defines the term leader or leadership. Northouse (2016) defines leadership as, a
process by which an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. (p. 6).
Sammi Caramella writes, Leadership is critical to every company. Workers need someone to look to,
learn from and thrive with. Every leader has their own style and strategy. Further, leadership styles and
methods vary because of outside influences and personal challenges. While leadership is unique to

to help with my progression as a leader. He began with a skills approach and later moved to more of a

A skills approach takes a leader centered perspective on leadership with more emphasis on the skills
and abilities that an individual can learn. Using Katz s 1955 model, the three skill approach suggests
that effective leadership depends on three essential personal skills: technical, human, and conceptual.
The technical skill is knowledge and skill in a type of work or activity while the human skill is the
ability and knowledge around working with people. Human skills involve people, technical involve

American Prejudice
iv. Prejudice can demean and destroy the lives of people. Discuss.
Prejudice have been prevalent throughout human history. Prejudice is the inflexible and irrational
attitudes and opinions held by members of one group about another. It predisposes us to behave
negatively toward certain people because of a group to which they belong. And when prejudice
reaches the intensity of hatred, it becomes bigotry. It is easy to view ancient racist or sexist attitudes as
patently absurd and to denounce them, yet often we do not acknowledge current widespread
prejudices that future generations may find just as incongruous.
With regard to discriminatory actions, Allport (1979) identified five negative behaviors caused by
prejudice: (1) verbal abuse against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We do this by (4) limiting our interactions with people from racial or ethnic groups other than our
own. Measuring attitudes about avoiding others was the focus of research by Bogardus; this study
used a Social Distance Scale in which people encounter a list of racial, ethnic, and religious groups
and are asked to rank them in order of preference (Schaefer, 2008). People consistently reveal a
preference for those groups most like their own, and they have less regard for people from groups they
perceive as least like themselves. Another way to avoid certain groups is (5) to engage in or condone
discrimination in such areas as education, employment, and housing. To illustrate this behavior,
consider how people choose what sort of neighborhood they want to live in. In the 1960s, when courts
ordered urban school districts to desegregate, many school administrators responded by busing
students to different schools, a controversial solution that caused massive movement of white families
from urban neighborhoods to racially segregated suburbs, the white flight phenomenon. Despite the
passage of the 1968 National Fair Housing Act, studies have documented the preference of most white
Americans to live in racially segregated neighborhoods (Farley, 2005; Massey,

Human Overpopulation Essay
Human overpopulation occurs when the ecological footprint of a human population in a specific
location exceeds the carrying capacity of the place occupied by that group. Overpopulation can further
be viewed, in a long term perspective, as existing when a population cannot be maintained given the
rapid depletion of nonrenewable resources or given the degradation of the of the environment to give
support to the population. Overpopulation is a problem that needs to be solved.
Concern about overpopulation has existed for hundreds of years.Tertullian was a resident of the city of
Carthage in the second century CE, when the population of the world was about 190 million. He said:
What most frequently meets our view (and occasions complaint) is our teeming population. Our
numbers are burdensome to the world, which can hardly support us.... In very deed, pestilence, and
famine, and wars, and earthquakes have to be regarded as a remedy for nations, as the means of
pruning the luxuriance of the human race. Before that, Plato, Aristotle and others had concern for the
topic as well. Laws existing to prevent the rapid growth of the population have been around for
hundreds of years. However in the modern world, China is one of the countries with laws regulating
birth rates. They have two child per household limit to combat the rapid growth of the dense
population. India has one of the densest populations in the world and in order to combat the growing
number of people, the government

Reflection Of Schindler s List
It can be quite difficult to describe how you view the world around you. A way to do just that could be
to analyze how you view a specific film or piece of literature, describe how it makes you feel, and see
what that says about you as a person. As such, I will analyze my view on the movie, Schindler s List ,
one of my favorite movies. The movie is about Oskar Schindler who uses World War 2 as an
opportunity to make money as a manufacturer. He is a very smart and likeable businessman who
knows how to use his money and charisma to influence others. He manages to start his manufactory
near the Krakow ghetto and uses the inhabitants of it for cheap labor. Schindler changes throughout
the film, starting as selfish and ending up very selfless. His accountant, also a jew, takes hiring as his
responsibility and uses it to save people from being shipped to concentration camps. Schindler is
initially mad at this revelation but soon comes to realize the good it does and allows this to continue
and expand, demonstrating how he changes. Towards the end of the movie, he ends up saving over
eleven hundred jews, and his only regret that brings him to tears is that he feels he could have saved
more. This film demonstrates to me that people are responsible for their own actions, evil is inherent
in this world, and distrust in authority can be good and necessary. I believe people are responsible for
their own actions. I came to believe this for several reasons. When I was growing up, it was common
for my parents to say things to this effect. You get what you deserve and you get out what you put in
were both similar in that regard. The idea was that your actions produce a net result that affects you
and potentially others. My father usually said this to me in regards to being a decent person or playing
football. He drove me to be a better athlete but said I was responsible to work hard. He told me that I
am a result of the decisions I make, that I become my actions. I had observed this for myself in the
real world and came to believe it outright. Personally, I noticed that when I worked harder at school I
got better grades. When I practiced football more, I saw the results and became better. When I

Cosmopolitanism In Kwame Appiah s Things Fall Apart
In the novel, Things Fall Apart, power and dignity are very critical aspects of the main character,
Okonkwo. These traits, however, were brought up in Okonkwo in the wrong way. Okonkwo
suppresses his emotions under a violent image of power and pride. His traits can be demonstrated
through the events happening in his life, which include his upbringing of putting hard work and
dedication as his first priorities. He acquires a large amount of wealth that he puts towards his family,
and expects his children to strive towards the same goal. This expectation represents Okonkwo s
defiance of embracing any ideologies that aren t his own. In the novel, Cosmopolitanism, the concept
represented is to engage readers to understand the similarities and differences that are shared amongst
people in the world. The author, Kwame Appiah, states that cosmopolitanism begins with the simple
idea that in the human community, as in national communities, we need to develop habits of
coexistence: conversation in its older meaning, of living together, association (Appiah). The main idea
is to learn and understand how the people in the world choose to live their lives by accepting all
different kinds of cultures. The basic theme that is found in the novel is acceptance. Comparing
Cosmopolitanism to Things Fall Apart can work if there is a connection between Okonkwo s story and
being cosmopolitan. His life could have turned out differently if he would have had acceptance instead

Similarities Between The Holocaust And Salem Witch Trials
Comparing Tragedies What do two events that occured hundred of years apart have in common?
Although the Salem Witch Trials and the Holocaust were very different, they were both led by
misguided judgements of what makes people different. They both consisted of many tragedies such as
false accusation, killing innocent people, and lots of death. The Salem Witch Trials began in 1692 in
Salem, Massachusetts (Salem Witch Trials 1). Three girls were accused of witchcraft, and then
proceed to blame the whole town of witchcraft (Salem Witch Trials 1). Bridget Bishop was the first

Analysis Of The God Of Small Things
It s the smallest things in life which are most often overlooked and sometimes completely ignored. In
the novel The God of Small Things , Arundhati Roy presents minute details about each character and
how their lives are changed based on the societal norms in India. Roy articulates the importance of
small things , but she also gives the title The God of Small Things to Velutha, an untouchable who is
amongst the lowest social class of India according to the caste system. Although Velutha s social status
is practically worthless, him being given the title, God of small things represents all the small things
within the story that are overlooked. In a society where big things such as information about social
caste system, wealth, religion, political standings, and marriage are important, Roy repeatedly
emphasizes the small things having the most impact on the characters within the story. Take Baby
Kochamma, Comrade Pillai, and Velutha for example, the society they live in are mostly concerned on
social status and politics as opposed to important minute details that shape the way they think. By
making Velutha the god of small things, someone who s at the bottom class structure in India, Roy
shows that it is wrong to live accordingly to the ideas confined by society.
An untouchable is a member of the lowest caste Hindu group, also known as a person outside of the
social class system. The Hindus believed untouchables are people who have sinned in their past life

Essay on The Human Body in Ancient Greek Sculptures
The Human Body in Ancient Greek Sculptures
The primary focus of ancient Greek sculptures was that of the human body. Almost all Greek
sculptures are of nude subjects. As the first society to focus on nude subjects, Greek sculptors
attempted to depict man in what they believed was the image of the gods and so would come to
celebrate the body by striving for verisimilitude or true likeness (realism and naturalism!). (Riffert)
Not only did the Greeks celebrate the human form in their art but also in everyday life. (Riffert) One
of the favorite topics for sculptors was that of the athlete. In Greek culture athletes were described as
hero athletes . (Riffert) This shows that athletes were revered and looked upon as heroes. The

Greeks were constantly in search of the Ideal (Riffert). Their Ideal was a body capable of enduring all
efforts, either of the racecourse or of bodily strength...this is why the athletes in the pentathlon are the

the majority of ancient Greeks. People were not judged solely on their minds but rather strong
emphasis was given to the body. This emphasis given to the body was given to the nude body. It is
understandable that we question why nude art was so accepted by the Greeks, as they were the
pioneers in this field. The answer lies in the everyday life of the people. It was commonplace for
Greek men to exercise, go to war, and generally go about their daily business in the nude or scantly
clothed (Boardman 276).
While male nudity was straightforward and hiding nothing, female nudity was more reserved. In the
first fully nude female sculpture, Aphrodite of Knidos by Praxitales c. 350 340bc., the feminine

Initial Business Approach: Some approaches you can use are investors, Use an existing service like
eBay, buy some open source online shop software, you can or have a personal acquaintance to build a
website and shopping cart, use a fully hosted e Commerce Solution such as eCorner, select the correct
legal entity to operate the business, build data collection and management processes that anticipate
later uses for the data, become a social networker, allow customers easy access to contact you,
personalize and segment your e mail messages, try podcasting, and create a comprehensive FAQ and
feedback page.
High Level Solution:
Buy or Use an existing service:
When you use an existing service like EBay and Amazon, you will pay fees to list your products and
also a Final Value Fee which is a percentage of the sale price. Buying an existing business is also less
risky than starting from scratch. When you buy an existing business, you are at that point taking over
an already generation of cash flow and profits. You have an established customer base, reputation and
employees who are familiar with all aspects of the business. You may also have the option to reinvent
the vision of the company or success formula.
Use an Investor:

The Great Tuna Boat Chase and Massacre case Essay
The Great Tuna Boat Chase and Massacre Case has Ecuador claiming that the United States is in
violation of its 200 mile territorial sea. From it s inception, Ecuador had accepted the customary three
mile limit as the demarcation of its territorial waters. However, after 130 years, Juan Valdez achieved
power in 1952. Under his regime, he proclaimed that the three mile boundary was never meant to be
considered a fixed and unalterable boundary, and that historical practices as well as the natural
features of the area justified a 200 mile territorial sea. Each Ecuadorian president since Valdez claimed
this as well.
Under the UN 1982 treaty, a state s territorial sea extends twelve nautical miles from the national
coastline (Slomanson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The possession of this territory is not optional, not dependent upon the will of the State, but
compulsory (Slomanson 306).
In saying this, the ICJ ruled that a State must accept these waters as part of its jurisdiction and enforce
it. As the UN 1982 Treaty states, 12 miles is the furthest distance territorial waters may extend to.
Ecuador can not claim a 200 mile territorial sea. They must accept the 12 mile zone granted to them.
Ecuador can not construe the rules to their liking.
Ecuador s actions are not exclusive and have been seen before on the international level. In the past,
certain costal states have staked a claim much wider than the customary limit (Slomanson 308). The
majority of these cases were put forth by lesser developed nations with significant fishing or seabed
resources adjacent to their coasts while lacking the superior technology possessed by developed
nations to take advantages of these resources (Slomanson 308). Ecuador has used as justification the
claim that fishing resources act as the primary source of exports and national wealth. In 1952, the
same year that Ecuador claimed a 200 mile territorial sea, two other South American countries, Chile
and Peru, also adopted this stance.
On February 17th, 2004, Donald Thomas began sending his vessels into the vicinity of Ecuador s
coastal waters to fish for tuna. Thomas and his fleet of three tuna boats were fishing approximately

Quantitative And Qualitative Research Process
Integration is the stage(s) where the quantitative and qualitative methods are mixed or integrated in the
research process (Greene, Caracelli, Graham, 1989; Tashakkori Teddlie, 1998; Creswell et al., 2003).
Mixing can occur at the beginning stage of the study when the researcher is formulating the
quantitative and qualitative research (Teddlie Tashakkori, 2003), and integration can be done at the
interpretation stage of the quantitative and qualitative results (Onwuegbuzie Teddlie, 2003). The
quantitative and qualitative phases are connected (Hanson et al., 2005) after data analysis in the first
phase to guide the data collection in the second phase. For the sequential explanatory study, I will
connect the quantitative and qualitative phase during the intermediate stage in the research process.
That is, I will select participants for the qualitative phone interview from those who responded to the
survey in the first phase (Creswell et al., 2003).
Integrating the Outcomes of Both Phases of the Study I will integrate the results of the two phases
during the discussion of the study s outcomes. As indicated in the research design, I will ask both
quantitative and qualitative research questions to better understand the roles that behavioral science
faculty fill in inpatient medicine teaching service within family medicine residencies, what
responsibilities of the roles that BSF fill, and to what extent do the responsibilities inform the roles.

Aristotle s Role Of Luck And Chance As Causes For Change
When discussing probability, a text of my previous reading came to mind. Within the lecture Physics
II, much of Aristotle s work is concerned with providing a definition for various events and subjects,
and as such, identifying the types of causes for each event is an important step in accomplishing this
goal. Aristotle specifically investigates the role of luck and chance as causes of change. Although we
commonly speak of luck or chance as being a cause, Aristotle purposefully refrains from including
them in his explanation of causes. When giving an account of our observable world, I agree with
Aristotle in that there is no place for luck and chance as causes of events, yet I believe they do have a
role, namely in predicting future events.
Aristotle specifically separates causes into four different categories, material cause, formal cause,
efficient cause, and final cause. He defines these causes as that from which, as a constituent present in
it, ... the form i.e., the pattern, ... the source of the primary principle of change, ... something s end .
Respectively, these describe what something is made of, the form or pattern to which is corresponds,
the original source of change (closest to what we would associate with a cause ), and the purpose of
the change. Using the creation of a sculpture as an example, Aristotle provides the bronze of a statue
as a material cause, the shape of the state as the formal cause, the actual sculpting of the statue as the
efficient cause,

Greek God Research Paper
Cronus God of time and king of Titans
My research paper is about the Greek Titan Kronos/Cronus which are his Greek name or Saturn for his
Roman name was the terrible father of the Olympians. He was also the king of titans which were
overthrown by their own children the Olympians. In Greek mythology we all know his ending was
about him being thrown into the pit of tartarus but we barely know how his beginning life started in
the myths, but his defeat the most well known story. In my research paper I will talk about the rise and
fall of kronos the god of time.
The Kronos rather brief in comparison to the greek gods and goddesses. In the beginning of the
mythological history the Uranus the ruler of the universe and Gaia Goddess of the Earth ... Show more

Another would be Zeus slicing kronos s stomach open and freeing his brothers and sisters . After Zeus
freed his siblings they went to war against the Titans called the Titanomachy which would end with
the titans being defeated and the Olympians claim power over the world . After Kronos s defeat he is
thrown into the pit of Tartarus along with the other Titans and to remain there for eternity. While the
Titans are in perpetual Hell the Olympians begin their story with Zeus being married to hera his sister
and they create other half gods with mortals and each other. Because of the end of the golden age and
the coming of the bronze age the world complete forgot what kronos did and was then portrayed as a
monster and was rarely worshiped by mortals of Greece. In my research I have learn that Kronos rose
to power by cutting off his father s testicals, and fell by getting cut open by Zeus then in a great war
was thrown into the pit of

Refugees Of The Arab Spring
Refugees Crisis in Europe
In December 15 of 2010, a Tunisian citizen burned himself to draw public opinion to the bad
economical situation in Tunisia. This was the first spark of the Arab Spring, which began in Tunisia
and continues to many Arabian countries such as Libya, Egypt and Syria. The Arab Spring has
affected many innocent citizens around the Middle East. The Arab Spring s purpose was seeking better
life. However, civil wars and lack of safety turned The Middle East into a dangerous environment to
live. Suffering ethnic wars and random aerial bombardment forced those citizens to run for their lives
looking for a better environment to live and raise their children. Most of these affected countries are
located close to the European union countries specially Turkey, Greece and Italy. The European union
decides to help those countries by relocated those huge numbers of refugees to other member
countries. Considering the unstable situation in the surrounding countries, Europe is the only safe
refuge for those innocents refugees. This huge displacement has affected the European economy since
those desperate people are looking for shelters and job opportunities. Some of The European Union
countries are either surviving economical issues or already have a corrupted economy. An increasing
number of refugees crawl to Europe. The EU had to come with a plan to distribute the refugees among
its countries as a fair quota for each country depending on country s economical

Terri Schiavo Case Analysis
1. If I had a 1% chance of not coming out of a coma or persistent vegetative state I would want the
physicians to continue to treat me and keep me on a respirator for a limited amount of time. I believe
that God has the final say if you will come out of the coma. However, if after being treated for a
sufficient amount of time has passed, I would want the physicians to stop the usage of a respirator. At
that point if I m supposed to live or die, God will be the one to decide if I live or die. Now that being
said, if all else has failed I would not want to live for example, as the way Terri Schiavo was being
kept alive. 2. Not only did she live in a persistent vegetative state her family had endured having to

Similarities And Differences Between China And India
1. Introduction
Some of the most frequent economic discussions nowadays concern the power and unique growth
trajectories of emerging markets. Especially the two biggest countries population wise, China and
India, are subject to many recent academic works. Most of them analyze country specific advantages
as for example the vast pool of labor. However, there is an emerging trend towards researches about
the new paths of capability accumulation these two countries have followed. This paper aims to
illustrate the similarities and differences in the catch up process of an Indian and a Chinese firm.
Firstly, the paper describes the different macroeconomic environments in both countries. Secondly,

SAIC
SAIC was founded as state owned enterprise (SOE) under the direct control of the Shanghai
municipality. The company produced its first passenger vehicle in 1959, a reversed engineered
imitation based on the Mercedes 220s of 1956 targeting elite public officials (Nam, 2015). Between
1970 and the 1980s SAIC achieved an annual production volume of 3000 5000 units, which was
sufficient to reach the market leadership in China due to the general repression of sedans.
Yet, the car manufacturer was unable to strengthen its extremely weak technological capabilities. In
order to do so, a joint venture between Volkswagen (VW) and SAIC, SVW, was founded in 1985
providing market access to VW and learning opportunities for SAIC. According to Thun, the Chinese
manufacturer was operating with decrepit assembly plants, outdated equipment based on highly labor
intensive procedures. Furthermore, it was embedded in an unfavorable environment lacking
competitiveness and supplier (Thun, 2006). The government of Shanghai initiated a localization drive
through tax methods, subsidized credits and monitoring (Nam, 2015). Nevertheless, it supported SVW
through relaxed foreign exchange constraints and put effort into solving the problem of lacking
suppliers (Nam,

Communication with Children and Young People

Communication and professional relationships with children young people and adults
Good professional relationships can be a rewarding way for two or more people to work together and
help each other after moving on to other opportunities. A lack of a professional relationship on the
other hand, can lead to lost productivity and hard feelings at work. Many people don t think that they
have the skills necessary to build professional relationship, but with a little time and effort it isn t
difficult.

Protecting children from a real risk of harm from abuse or neglect, usually from their parent or carer,
must always be a priority. It is widely accepted legally and ethically that confidentiality can be broken
on pressing child protection grounds. This has long been an integral part of the daily operations of
social workers, doctors, teachers, the police, and those providing advice on information handling
issues within these services. By sharing genuine concerns about a child or family, professionals of
education can construct a more accurate and comprehensive picture about a child s safety and well
being. Sharing information may be especially important, given the extreme lengths abusers may go to
conceal their wrong doing. It is important to re state that data protection law never stands in the way
of using or sharing personal information about the child and sometimes about others where a real need
exists. Harming children though abuse or neglect is criminal activity. Data protection law recognises
the importance of preventing and detecting crime and pursuing offenders. This must be especially
important where children are the victims.
Data protection should never be used as an excuse for failure to protect a child from a real risk of
harm. Data protection issues may be less clear cut where the concerns

Exercise And Behavior Adoption For Many Reasons
This course has provided a new perspective on exercise and behavior adoption for many reasons. The
first and prominent realization I had was during the behavior change project. This assignment allowed
me to take a step back, and assess where I stand physically and mentally. I noticed that I lacked
discipline in my diet and exercise routines. That being said, I did exercise periodically prior to this
moment, but I knew that I was capable of accomplishing more and using my time more wisely. The
fact that this assignment allowed me to directly apply what we learned in class in my life is appealing
to me. There have been many theories and terms that we have covered, but items such as the self
determination theory, social support, and the stimulus response theory stood out, probably due to
incorporating them in my behavior change.
The self determination theory has been made prevalent in my life as I have seen it hold true in my
personal goals, and I have used it to help motivate others to accomplish plans of interest. It is hard for
me to have a great influence on my family, due to being six hours away for college, but recently my
mother and I have been discussing exercise possibilities over the phone. She knows that she should
exercise, but has found it difficult to begin the change from being sedentary to physically active. The
self determination theory has three main components; autonomy, competence, and relatedness (Lox,
2014). I was able to use these factors to help

  • 2. Essay The Louvre Palace, Pei s Bank of China Tower in Hong... PEI S OTHER WORKS One of his buildings that really captured my attention is the aforementioned Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong. The structural expressionism adopted in the design of this building is supposed to resemble growing bamboo shoots, symbolising livelihood and prosperity. The whole structure is supported by the five steel columns at the corners of the building, with the triangular frameworks transferring the weight of the building onto these five columns. It is covered with glass curtain walls, and it s unique appearance means that it remains one of Hong Kong s most distinguishable buildings. However, like the Louvre it has caused quite a large amount of controversy, as it is the only major building in Hong Kong that bypassed the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although changes had been made it still kept to Paris traditional appearance and was installed within the former Orsay railway station. Between 1900 through to 1939 it was known as the Gare d Orsay and was seen as the head of the southwestern French railroad network. However, after 1939, the station was to serve only the suburbs, as its platforms had become too short for the modern, longer trains that appeared with the progressive modernisation of the railroads. In 1975, the Direction des Musées de France had considered installing a new museum within the train station, in which all of the arts from the second half of the 19th century would be displayed. The station at this time was threatened with demolition and was to be replaced by a large scale hotel complex, however due to the revival of interest in nineteenth century architecture it became listed on the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments on March 8, 1973. It wasn t until October 1977 that the official decision to construct the Musée d Orsay went ahead. The building was then classified as a Historical Monument in 1978, and a civil commission was created to oversee the construction of the museum. The modification of the original rail station into a museum was accomplished by ACT architecture group, made up of M. Bardon, M. Colboc and M. Philippon. • 4. Christina Rossetti Christina Rossetti, an English Victorian poet lived an early life full of hardships with her relations. When she was seventeen years old a painter named James Collinson proposed to her. She accepted, but later in 1850 she broke off the engagement because Collinson reverted to Catholicism. She refused a second proposal from linguist Charles Bagot Cayley for his religious beliefs, and also a third from the painter John Brett. In addition to her relationships, earlier Rossetti s father had been diagnosed with tuberculosis and depression before his death in 1854, forcing the entire family to work to pay off the financial vacuum he had left (poetryfoundation.org). The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano was published in 1789 during the International Slave Trade. The Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl , by Harriet Jacobs, was published seventy two years later. Shortly after Jacobs published her autobiography, the United States outlawed slavery, putting an end to hundreds of years of the Middle Passage. It is commonly known that the relationship between slaves and their masters was tremendously unbalanced throughout slavery. Masters exerted extreme control over their slaves. Olaudah Equiano was kidnapped and sold into slavery at the age of eleven. Throughout his autobiography entitled The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano , Equiano recounts his fear throughout his journey of an enslaved man. This story describes the repulsive side of slavery through the Middle Passage. Towards the beginning of the story, the author discusses the experience of arriving on the ship that would take him to the Americas: I was immediately handled, and tossed up to see if I were sound, by some of the crew (Equiano 521). This gives insight into the cruel treatment of the colored by the whites. Men were examined and picked apart, according to their appearance; they were judged physically on their ability to do work for the people they were being sold to. Masters needed strong men to work in the fields. Further on, Olaudah says, I was soon put under the decks, and there I received such a salutation in my nostrils as I had ever experienced in my life (Equiano 521). This portrays the uncleanliness of the ships in the Middle Passage. Although stench does not illicitly describe physical abuse, it represents a form of abuse extended on men in the Middle Passage. Being in an enclosed space with no oxygen flow physically damages Equiano s ability to walk and eat. To go into more depth, the author includes the result of being stuck under the decks of the ship: I became so sick and low that I was unable to eat (Equiano 521). As a result of the extreme conditions on board, many slaves fell victim to illnesses. The physical abuse mentioned previously lead to mental abuse of Olaudah ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Video Games Are The Most Revolutionary Form Of Art To quote the famous game designer Santiago Sir Games are not just art, they are the most revolutionary form of art mankind has ever known about . Video games are a hybrid form of art that brings together multiple forms of art. Video games are very aesthetic. They achieve this through the use of their realistic graphics, in depth development of the story, and the emotional attachment built overtime with the game. Video games have come a long way in the development of the graphics system. To really understand the substantial innovations that have been made, one needs to understand where the original graphics started. The original video games used vector based graphics, which uses geometric primitives to produce an image. This was common for arcade games. These vector based graphics were mainly two dimensional and had little detail. For the time that these games released it was an amazing feat of art that they could use math to produce these images and have a reaction through the use of a joystick and buttons. Video games of the modern time we live in have blown this feat of the past out of the water. The common form of producing graphics in a video game now uses resolution based bitmap graphics to develop images. These image can be three or two dimensional and have detail down to a bead of sweat rolling down your cheek or the swift movement of the grass and landscape. Due to the overwhelming amount of the non native pythons in the Everglades (which is expanding to the Florida Keys and beyond) there has been a ban on Burmese pythons and 3 other constrictor snakes. Women s Influence On The Field Of Psychology Throughout the early days of psychology, opportunities for women where limited and it was an extremely difficult time for women to become apparent in the field of psychology. Women struggled for equality in the field of psychology and this began with our pioneers, Mary Whiton Calkins, who sat her PhD but was never awarded it, Margaret Washburn, being the first women to be awarded a PhD and Christine Ladd Franklin. Since these women made their breakthrough there has been more and more women contributing their knowledge to many areas in psychology such as, Anna Freud, who became influenced by her father s theories and created her own theories in psychoanalysis. Karen Horney who contributed a substantial amount to the personality theory and later became interested in feminine psychology, Melanie Klein and Mary Ainsworth, just to name a few. These women faced several societal constraints and long held beliefs about the role of women in their era. At that time the societal belief was that women where intellectually inferior to men and responding to this judgement, male psychologists attempted to develop theories about what could happen to women if they did try to enter higher education. • 17. A Study On Ecosystem Profile Part A: Ecosystem Profile On the 10th and 11th of August, Year 11 Biology students from Trinity Lutheran College went on a fieldwork excursion to monitor the quality of water in the surrounding ecosystems of 3 lakes in the Gold Coast region. Aquatic ecosystems are an integral part of our environment and play an important role in maintaining the quality of water. The quality of water is important in lakes because it doesn t just protect the health of the public but it also provides ecosystem habitats, contributes to recreation and tourism and is used for fishing, mining and farming. It s essential to measure the quality frequently so biotic and abiotic features are surviving in a sustainable ecology. If the quality isn t maintained, not only will the environment suffer but the recreational and commercial value of water resources will also reduce (NSW Environment and Heritage, 2014). Water quality is measured using different tests to investigate the pH, temperature, salinity, suspended solids, light penetration, nitrates and phosphates. pH The pH of water is a measure of its degree of acidity or alkalinity (Biology Textbook). Its scale has a minimum of 0 and maximum of 14. The higher the number the more basic it is, the lower the number, the more acidic it is. A pH of 7 is considered to be neutral. The pH of water determines the biological availability and solubility of chemical components including nutrients and heavy metals (Department of Ecology, n/d). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When Peggy Orenstein s three year old daughter entered the princess phase , Orenstein became increasingly frustrated and concerned. Karl Marx was very concerned with the class system in Prussia. He was an avid campaigner against a system where one group of people flourish at the expense of another class, in this case the working. He believed that all things should be equal, and that sharing should abound, with no one person owning everything, all belonging to the state. Marx believed that once most workers recognized their interests and became class conscious , the overthrow of capitalism would proceed as quickly and democratically as the nature of the capitalist opposition allowed. The socialist society that would emerge out of the revolution would develop the full productive potential inherited from capitalism through democratic planning on behalf of social needs. The final goal, towards which socialist society would constantly build, is the human one of abolishing alienation. Marx called the attainment of this goal Communism. Bacchus Discovering Ariadne by Jacob Jordaens was definitely a painting that has a story, but the thing is, there isn t much about it, which is a challenge. Most of the focus in this painting is set on Ariadne and the meeting between her and Bacchus. Not only that but the painting, and all other paintings associated with this myth, focus on the shift from divine perfection to humanity that is found in Renaissance and Baroque artwork. The oil painting made by Jacob Jordaens tells the story of Ariadne, the princess of Crete, being deserted on the Island of Naxos by Theseus, the Athenian prince who she helped escape from her father s labyrinth. Bacchus, whom is the god of wine, and his satyrs discover her, and he falls in love with Ariadne. As a testimony of his devotion he holds up her crown, which he will then toss into the heavens to create a constellation in her honor. In this painting he shows Ariadne as an extremely feminine figure that s not only fair but regarded as beautiful The body of Bacchus is sculpted showing the muscles in his legs and throughout the rest of his body. She is a gell gone nine, at the outset of the story, the daughter of the miller Mr. Tulliver, and lives with her family on the banks of the Floss (Eliot 8, 9, 12). When Mr. and Mrs. Tulliver begin discussing the issue of Tom s education in their first conversation of the story, they segue into discussion of his sister. While Mrs. Tulliver derides Maggie for being unsensible, brown skinned, and altogether unlike her side of the family, Mr. Tulliver defends her, saying she s a straight, black eyed wench as anybody need wish to see. I don t know i what she s behind other folks s children; and she can read almost as well as the parson, (Eliot 12). Maggie s parents further describe her physiognomy for the reader later in this conversation. From Mrs. Tulliver s perspective, her daughter s hair exemplifies the issue with Maggie s character. But her hair won t curl all I can do with it... an there s her cousin Lucy s got a row o curls round her head, an not a hair out o place, Mrs. Tulliver frets (Eliot 12, 13). Maggie s mother feels that her daughter is a comical mistake, with her dark, heavy locks, air of a small Shetland pony, and likeness to a Bedlam creature, (Eliot 12, 13). Because of this dissatisfaction, Mrs. Tulliver is forever attempting to make her daughter more similar to herself and to other folks s respectable, curly haired children. Later in the story, Maggie s character is further established by juxtaposition to her brother Tom. Tom Tulliver differs from Maggie not only in appearance, but also in garnering motherly affection: Mrs. Tulliver continually speaks of him with great approbation and pride, greeting him as my sweet lad! on his return from school (Eliot 30). In addition to this contrast in affection, a contrast in physical character is evident between the siblings. Tom is described as a lad with light brown hair, cheeks of cream and roses, full lips, indeterminate nose and eyebrows... the generic character to boyhood, while Maggie is moulded and colored with the most decided intention, a dark eyed, demonstrative, rebellious girl, though it is noted that these physical appearances ... The drunken butler Stephano is countered in the film with the Tennessee bourbon sloshing space cook. The character of Caliban resonates in the film by use of the Id monster, and finally Ariel is engrossed through the character of Robby the Robot. A closer reading of some of the characters in FP will reveal parallels outlined by Campos. Campos shines light on the fact that [Prospero and Morbius] are figures that, isolated from the rest of mankind, have devoted their lives to the study of some books which have granted them an extraordinary, almost supernatural power (Campos, 285). The main connections between the two are their utilization of science and magic. As pointed out by Campos, the film gives a clear implication that science becomes the magic of the future (286). This statement seems to be truthful as in Shakespeare s time magic would be thought to be no different from the scientific breakthroughs of our time. For example a Shakespearean audience would marvel at the strides science has taken in the modern day, such as the utilization of electricity. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is easy to view ancient racist or sexist attitudes as patently absurd and to denounce them, yet often we do not acknowledge current widespread prejudices that future generations may find just as incongruous. People consistently reveal a preference for those groups most like their own, and they have less regard for people from groups they perceive as least like themselves. Another way to avoid certain groups is (5) to engage in or condone discrimination in such areas as education, employment, and housing. A way to do just that could be to analyze how you view a specific film or piece of literature, describe how it makes you feel, and see what that says about you as a person. As such, I will analyze my view on the movie, Schindler s List , one of my favorite movies. The movie is about Oskar Schindler who uses World War 2 as an opportunity to make money as a manufacturer. He is a very smart and likeable businessman who knows how to use his money and charisma to influence others. He manages to start his manufactory near the Krakow ghetto and uses the inhabitants of it for cheap labor. Schindler changes throughout the film, starting as selfish and ending up very selfless. His accountant, also a jew, takes hiring as his responsibility and uses it to save people from being shipped to concentration camps. Schindler is initially mad at this revelation but soon comes to realize the good it does and allows this to continue and expand, demonstrating how he changes. Towards the end of the movie, he ends up saving over eleven hundred jews, and his only regret that brings him to tears is that he feels he could have saved more. This film demonstrates to me that people are responsible for their own actions, evil is inherent in this world, and distrust in authority can be good and necessary. I believe people are responsible for their own actions. I came to believe this for several reasons. When I was growing up, it was common for my parents to say things to this effect. You get what you deserve and you get out what you put in were both similar in that regard. The idea was that your actions produce a net result that affects you and potentially others. My father usually said this to me in regards to being a decent person or playing football. He drove me to be a better athlete but said I was responsible to work hard. He told me that I am a result of the decisions I make, that I become my actions. I had observed this for myself in the real world and came to believe it outright. These traits, however, were brought up in Okonkwo in the wrong way. Okonkwo suppresses his emotions under a violent image of power and pride. His traits can be demonstrated through the events happening in his life, which include his upbringing of putting hard work and dedication as his first priorities. He acquires a large amount of wealth that he puts towards his family, and expects his children to strive towards the same goal. This expectation represents Okonkwo s defiance of embracing any ideologies that aren t his own. In the novel, Cosmopolitanism, the concept represented is to engage readers to understand the similarities and differences that are shared amongst people in the world. The author, Kwame Appiah, states that cosmopolitanism begins with the simple idea that in the human community, as in national communities, we need to develop habits of coexistence: conversation in its older meaning, of living together, association (Appiah). The main idea is to learn and understand how the people in the world choose to live their lives by accepting all different kinds of cultures. The basic theme that is found in the novel is acceptance. • 38. Analysis Of The God Of Small Things It s the smallest things in life which are most often overlooked and sometimes completely ignored. In the novel The God of Small Things , Arundhati Roy presents minute details about each character and how their lives are changed based on the societal norms in India. Roy articulates the importance of small things , but she also gives the title The God of Small Things to Velutha, an untouchable who is amongst the lowest social class of India according to the caste system. Although Velutha s social status is practically worthless, him being given the title, God of small things represents all the small things within the story that are overlooked. In a society where big things such as information about social caste system, wealth, religion, political standings, and marriage are important, Roy repeatedly emphasizes the small things having the most impact on the characters within the story. Take Baby Kochamma, Comrade Pillai, and Velutha for example, the society they live in are mostly concerned on social status and politics as opposed to important minute details that shape the way they think. By making Velutha the god of small things, someone who s at the bottom class structure in India, Roy shows that it is wrong to live accordingly to the ideas confined by society. An untouchable is a member of the lowest caste Hindu group, also known as a person outside of the social class system. The Hindus believed untouchables are people who have sinned in their past life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Does Capote Describe The Town Holcomb Although, Capote writes about a monumental murder he focuses in on how graceful Holcomb is before the murder; therefore, Capote verbalizes even if a town is safe it can be threatening anywhere. Capote uses literary devices such as anaphora to describe the town Holcomb to give readers a comprehension on how Holcomb acted before the chaos began. In the beginning of the book Capote reports Holcomb town as, Like the waters of the river, like the motorists on the highway, and like the yellow streaking down the Santa Fe tracks, drama, in the shape of exceptional happenings, has never stopped there (Capote 5). Life in Holcomb was as if the town had its own little world and nothing from the outside mattered. Holcomb was just a small, quiet town in the middle of nowhere. Capote first mentions how graceful the Greeks are to let the readers know it was very peaceful there before chaos. • 40. Essay on The Human Body in Ancient Greek Sculptures The Human Body in Ancient Greek Sculptures The primary focus of ancient Greek sculptures was that of the human body. Almost all Greek sculptures are of nude subjects. As the first society to focus on nude subjects, Greek sculptors attempted to depict man in what they believed was the image of the gods and so would come to celebrate the body by striving for verisimilitude or true likeness (realism and naturalism!). (Riffert) Not only did the Greeks celebrate the human form in their art but also in everyday life. (Riffert) One of the favorite topics for sculptors was that of the athlete. In Greek culture athletes were described as hero athletes . (Riffert) This shows that athletes were revered and looked upon as heroes. The influence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Greeks were constantly in search of the Ideal (Riffert). Their Ideal was a body capable of enduring all efforts, either of the racecourse or of bodily strength...this is why the athletes in the pentathlon are the most beautiful. (Tufts) This description of the Ideal person given by Aristotle reflects the attitude of the majority of ancient Greeks. People were not judged solely on their minds but rather strong emphasis was given to the body. This emphasis given to the body was given to the nude body. It is understandable that we question why nude art was so accepted by the Greeks, as they were the pioneers in this field. The answer lies in the everyday life of the people. It was commonplace for Greek men to exercise, go to war, and generally go about their daily business in the nude or scantly clothed (Boardman 276). While male nudity was straightforward and hiding nothing, female nudity was more reserved. In the first fully nude female sculpture, Aphrodite of Knidos by Praxitales c. 350 340bc., the feminine principle (is invented) which as a demure pose where the knees are brought together and sometimes the hand is discreetly before the genitals (Riffert). • 42. The Great Tuna Boat Chase and Massacre case Essay The Great Tuna Boat Chase and Massacre Case has Ecuador claiming that the United States is in violation of its 200 mile territorial sea. From it s inception, Ecuador had accepted the customary three mile limit as the demarcation of its territorial waters. However, after 130 years, Juan Valdez achieved power in 1952. Under his regime, he proclaimed that the three mile boundary was never meant to be considered a fixed and unalterable boundary, and that historical practices as well as the natural features of the area justified a 200 mile territorial sea. Each Ecuadorian president since Valdez claimed this as well. Under the UN 1982 treaty, a state s territorial sea extends twelve nautical miles from the national coastline (Slomanson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The possession of this territory is not optional, not dependent upon the will of the State, but compulsory (Slomanson 306). In saying this, the ICJ ruled that a State must accept these waters as part of its jurisdiction and enforce it. In the past, certain costal states have staked a claim much wider than the customary limit (Slomanson 308). The majority of these cases were put forth by lesser developed nations with significant fishing or seabed resources adjacent to their coasts while lacking the superior technology possessed by developed nations to take advantages of these resources (Slomanson 308). Ecuador has used as justification the claim that fishing resources act as the primary source of exports and national wealth. In 1952, the same year that Ecuador claimed a 200 mile territorial sea, two other South American countries, Chile and Peru, also adopted this stance. On February 17th, 2004, Donald Thomas began sending his vessels into the vicinity of Ecuador s coastal waters to fish for tuna. Mixing can occur at the beginning stage of the study when the researcher is formulating the quantitative and qualitative research (Teddlie Tashakkori, 2003), and integration can be done at the interpretation stage of the quantitative and qualitative results (Onwuegbuzie Teddlie, 2003). • 44. Aristotle s Role Of Luck And Chance As Causes For Change When discussing probability, a text of my previous reading came to mind. Within the lecture Physics II, much of Aristotle s work is concerned with providing a definition for various events and subjects, and as such, identifying the types of causes for each event is an important step in accomplishing this goal. Aristotle specifically investigates the role of luck and chance as causes of change. Although we commonly speak of luck or chance as being a cause, Aristotle purposefully refrains from including them in his explanation of causes. When giving an account of our observable world, I agree with Aristotle in that there is no place for luck and chance as causes of events, yet I believe they do have a role, namely in predicting future events. Aristotle specifically separates causes into four different categories, material cause, formal cause, efficient cause, and final cause. He defines these causes as that from which, as a constituent present in it, ... the form i.e., the pattern, ... the source of the primary principle of change, ... something s end . Respectively, these describe what something is made of, the form or pattern to which is corresponds, the original source of change (closest to what we would associate with a cause ), and the purpose of the change. Using the creation of a sculpture as an example, Aristotle provides the bronze of a statue as a material cause, the shape of the state as the formal cause, the actual sculpting of the statue as the efficient cause, ... Between 1970 and the 1980s SAIC achieved an annual production volume of 3000 5000 units, which was sufficient to reach the market leadership in China due to the general repression of sedans. • 50. Exercise And Behavior Adoption For Many Reasons This course has provided a new perspective on exercise and behavior adoption for many reasons. The first and prominent realization I had was during the behavior change project. This assignment allowed me to take a step back, and assess where I stand physically and mentally. I noticed that I lacked discipline in my diet and exercise routines. That being said, I did exercise periodically prior to this moment, but I knew that I was capable of accomplishing more and using my time more wisely. The fact that this assignment allowed me to directly apply what we learned in class in my life is appealing to me. There have been many theories and terms that we have covered, but items such as the self determination theory, social support, and the stimulus response theory stood out, probably due to incorporating them in my behavior change. The self determination theory has been made prevalent in my life as I have seen it hold true in my personal goals, and I have used it to help motivate others to accomplish plans of interest. It is hard for me to have a great influence on my family, due to being six hours away for college, but recently my mother and I have been discussing exercise possibilities over the phone. She knows that she should exercise, but has found it difficult to begin the change from being sedentary to physically active.
