Events Industry s Impact on Regional Development
After researching the impacts events have on regional development I have come to agree with the
statement The events industry is an effective and appropriate vehicle for facilitation of regional
development . The significance of this thesis is to critically discuss and demonstrate an understanding
of the relationship between the events industry and regional development while also providing an
understanding of the history of events and the increasing significance of the event industry in
contemporary society. Real life examples from around the world are used to recognize and justify the
event industry as part of the tourism sector and explore specific implications to event management.
Various sectors of the events industry are identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Criteria states Hallmark (high profile) events must enhance awareness and appeal as well as profit the
destination and have international or national audiences that provide significant economic and social
benefits. Another high profile event in Australia is the Rip Curl Pro surfing event, which attracts
international and national audiences from across the world. Jones (2005) stated that significant
economic benefits including additional regional demand and exposure were achieved through high
profile events such as the Rip Curl Pro. High profile events attract high number of visitors and
produce various economic benefits. As Philippa (2011) announced, The Sydney Royal Show attracts
over 900,000 visitors each year and has an economic impact of over $500 million to NSW in terms of
employment, tourism, agricultural development, infrastructure and transport . Another source also
confirmed their findings indicated that high profile events socially embedded configuration in local

First Battle Of Hoxington Research Paper
The First Battle of Lexington
How would you feel if you found yourself on a battlefield firing red hot cannon shots at moving hay
bales? This is exactly what soldiers did in the First Battle of Lexington. This battle was not as
tiresome as the battles of Bull Run or other battles and under 200 casualties from both sides combined
came out of this battle.
The First Battle of Lexington, which is located in Missouri, surprisingly also known as the Battle of
the Hemp Bales or the Siege of Lexington, was fought for eight tedious days in 1861. From September
12 to September 20 the Union army and the pro Confederate Missouri state guard in Lexington
furiously clashed with muskets canons, bayonets and hemp bales. The Missouri state guard was a
militia of approximately 25000 Confederate soldiers, although not all of these soldiers were used in
this battle. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the victory at the Battle of Boonville Nathaniel Lyon, who was the first Union general to be

Missouri River. He also commanded the soldiers to collect any resources they found. Surprisingly they
collected six cannons and 200 kegs of powder.
Confederate General Sterling Price began fighting at Lexington on September 12 when two federal
companies commenced firing upon them in the middle of their Cavalry advance. Price retreated to
allow for his sluggish artillery to meet them in order that they might aid advancement. Price s artillery
forced the enemy to rush to the safety of beyond the vast plains. The artillery advanced once again and
met the state guard in a two and a half hour duel. Price crushed the Union forces which forced them to

Science, Technology Affect The Religion Of Islam
. New scientific, technological and medical innovation in the Islamic empire affected the religion of
Islam. The Islamic empire is known for Dar Al Islam which is the Islamic golden age where new
technologies etc. flourish the religion of Islam. Scientific, medical, and philosophical texts, especially
from ancient Greece, the Hellenistic world, and India, were systematically translated into Arabic, for
several centuries providing an enormous boost to Islamic scholarship and science. (440) This means
that the Muslims ancient texts related to science, medicine and philosophy, and written it in Arabic.
This helped the Islamic empire because it expanded their knowledge and helped them understand the
material from other empires as well. This affected Islam because with understanding of the texts, they
would incorporate it into the faith to meet the standards of Sharia. Going more in depth, the Arabs in
the Islamic empire developed Algebra, which is used today. Using Indian numerical notation, for
example, Arab scholars developed algebra as a novel mathematical discipline. (441) The Arab scholars
were influenced by the Indians with their numerical notations, and with that foundation, they built a
new type of math. This affected the religion of Islam because since Algebra was popular, many would
incorporate it into their own understandings of it, and some merchants were probably welcomed into
the empire for Algebra, and later on converted to Islam. Out of all the

The Importance Of The Civil Rights Movement
Slavery was the hardest thing to abolish and make illegal in America throughout the years for African
Americans as well as lynching and discrimination. In 1863, it became illegal to own slaves and
practice lynching and physical abuse towards to the African American community. The one thing that
did not leave and still is around was racism and hatred. This is where the Civil Rights movement
became a change and a start for the freedom of the African American community. The Civil Rights
movement was more than just a movement it was a revolution; it was a change, it was justice for the
African American community. Many African Americans did not share same rights and privilege as the
white community had, African Americans did not get to drinking from the same water fountains, use
the same entrances to buildings or even use the same school busses. Several women had an impact in
helping advance the Civil rights movement, and three of them were Rosa Parks who gave African
Americans hope for their rights, Daisy Bates desegregate education and Ruby Nell Bridges an
inspiration to people of all ages for her courage. Rosa Park was an activist who worked alongside very
astounding people like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. after her very important boycott of the Montgomery
buses, 12 years be before getting arrested she had refused to go and stand towards the back of the bus
when told to by the bus driver. She maintained and stood her ground when asked to move, later on she

The Narrative Paradigm
The narrative paradigm is a communication theory that argues the strengths of storytelling over
argumentative communication. Narrative is any verbal and nonverbal interpretation which is arranged
logically to generate a meaning. This communication process is influenced by the experiences and
other factors from the past. The concept upholds the idea that communication happens between a
narrator and the listener in the form of a story. The story includes the events that the narrator wants to
communicate with the listener and does not fit in a single category. The theory has several principals
and assumptions in support of its claim. The objective of this research essay is to discover the
importance of Walter Fisher s famous theory and how it can be used to solve real life problems. There
s been a recent increase in what critics are calling dark humor advertisement. Dark comedy is a comic
style that makes light of subject matter that is generally considered to be a taboo. Though the benefits
of advertising are widely recognized, some critics still question its ethicality. Historically, scholars
have criticized advertising for the way it influences our society primarily because of its potential
implications such as stereotyping, influence on children and sexual pre occupation. The theory of
narrative paradigm can be used as a perspective tool to evaluate potential moral and ethical issues in
advertisement, because it offers a series of criteria that reason with effective

Starting A Social Movement
Individuals who face injustice, discrimination, inequality, and racism are the ones that try to make a
difference in society by starting a social movement. Social movement are conscious, concerted, and
sustained efforts by ordinary people to change some aspect of their society by using extrainstitutional
means (Goodwin p. 431). This is when people take matter into their own hands to bring change
without having to depend on courts, legislature and other institutions. However, starting a social
movement is more complex than just walking in a crowd holding posters. You need to recruit, raise
money for the movement, and find free space to brainstorm ideas and tactics without being harassed
by the people. Being able to raise money to fund your social movement requires some work. ... Show

The black community was able to gain justice and equal rights in America by protesting and marching.
Gay and lesbians have gained equal rights as well through social movement. Due to the economic
inequality and social hierarchy that exists in America today, it is mostly the lower and middle class
people who protest for better benefits in society. The cause for their social movement could be for
better employment wages or for equal rights. It is less likely for the top one percent individuals to start
a social movement. Those people that are being placed at the bottom of the social hierarchy are the
ones more likely to start social movements. In other countries, people choose quiescence rather than
insurgence as their norm for society because they have less resources to start a social movement. For
example, women in America are free to march and express their right of speech. However, in other
countries like the Middle Eastern, women are not allowed to walk in the street and express their rights
of speech. Greater danger exists in other countries for those who start a social movement to challenge

Examples Of Cannibalism In The Odyssey
Many people think that one eats anothers flesh because they are crazy, but really sometimes people are
forced to do it for survival. In the Odyssey a cyclops named Polyphemus purposefully ate some men
of Odysseus s army because he wanted them all dead. In 1884, the starving crew of the ill fated yacht
Mignonette sacrificed a man in order to survive. The crew of 4 men turned to cannibalism for survival,
not because they wanted to, but because they had to. Cannibalism is something no human being
should resort to, but these four men on the Mignonette Yacht had no other choice than to go in that
direction.
On 19 of May 1884 four men set sail from Southampton in a small yacht, already knowing the dangers
of the ocean, but clueless of what a lasting

Economic And Political Policies During The First World War...
The four decades prior to World War One (WWI) and the three decades after World War Two (WWII)
can be characterized as periods of great globalization and economic integration. As different parts of
the world grew more interconnected, and the prosperity of one nation became tethered to the
prosperity of another, many world actors searched for the right recipe of economic and political
policies to help them weather the turbulent global market. In the first era, we see a focus on three
pillars as the foundation for the world economic order. This included the gold standard, free trade, and
the growth of international finance. In the second era, which proceeded WWII, similar policies were
enacted as the world tried to learn from the mistakes made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, they fail to cover the distinct differences between the two time periods. For one, the second
era focused more on a harmonious application of these policies through the use of social welfare
programs and mixed economic systems. To counteract the unpredictable nature of the business cycle,
many governments began to provide safety nets for their citizens. Governments chose to protect
citizens against unemployment, sickness, disability, old age, and poverty. This stems from another
major distinction between the two eras, which was increased autonomy to pursue polices conducive to
domestic prosperity after WWII. In addition, in the second era differnet groups such as political and
economic elites as well as capital and labor work together to figure out solutions that are more
utilitarian. Finally, as mentioned before, two major camps formed after WWII and they each proposed
their own world economic order. This differs from the golden age which only offered global
integration or economic retardation. In the post WWII period, the second world and the third world
choose to follow their own

Abstract: The experiment s goal was to study the effects of temperature and the rate of breakdown of
starch by fungal and bacterial amylase. In order to conduct this experiment four samples were taken
from both specimen and placed in four different temperatures. After a period of time a portion of the
sample was taken and added to a portion of starch which was then mixed with iodine. Iodine reacts
with starch to produce a change in color in the iodine from a brown to a dark purple. This serves as a
method of measuring the breakdown of the starch by the amylase by comparing the color of iodine
when mixed with starch and comparing it with the added amylase. It was also noted that because both
specimen reacted differently with the temperature change, it was concluded that thy had differing
optimal temperatures (Bacillus licheniformis reacting with an optimal temperature of 55 degrees
Celsius while Aspergillus oryzae reacted optimally with a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius). In order
to conduct the experiment, samples from both specimens were taken and placed in four test tubes all
with a different temperature. Iodine was then taken and placed into a spot plate labeled with the type
of amylase and corresponding

Describe New York City Essay
New York City, or what I ve called the city my entire life, is truly the metropolis of the world it really
is the city. Sitting in bumper to bumper traffic driving across the George Washington Bridge, I look to
my right and see the skyscrapers that seem to be rising daily like weeds, and I appreciate all that New
York City is. From Central Park and Madison Square Garden to the various food markets downtown
and the eclectic food carts littered throughout the city, New York City offers anything to anyone you
just have to look. The city consists of a diverse group of people with different personalities. However,
one thing that unites all New Yorkers is that everyone is accepting of other people. As the son of an
immigrant father, I appreciate the diversity and inclusiveness of New York City. Walking in the streets
and hearing different languages makes me feel like the entire world is in one place because it is. This
mentality should be adopted throughout the world. People from around the globe come to New York
City for both business and pleasure it is the capital of the world. This diversity and energy spurs
innovation and growth and is one of the reasons that it is where I want to spend my college years. In

The Traditions Of Rituals By Nicholas B. Dawe Essay
The traditions of rituals is strongly examined by author Nicholas B. Dirks in Ritual and Resistance:
Subversion as a Social Fact, where he attempts to persuade readers of the drawbacks of ritual practices
through an anthropological point of view. Dirks explains to his readers of the fundamentals of rituals
as: brimming with resistance , opposed to [everyday] , along with the centrality of the subject of
power (Dirks 1994, 483 503). Continuing to state his supporting arguments through the article, Dirk s
concludes that too much of regular (daily) ritual practices creates a normalization in the ritual itself
(Dirks 1994, 483 503). Understanding the perspective of the creation of ordinarity of the practices,
one could argue that the repetition of a curtain act of a tradition can become a normality such as Dirks
states in his writings; however, if the act of tradition is not conducted daily, yet instead semi
annually/annually, there would not be a normality. Dirks presents his thesis as [focussing] on everyday
forms of resistance, critiquing both anthropological assumptions about ritual and historical reifications
of [the] assumptions (Dirks 1994, 483). Dirks finds the negative components of ritual practices, and
continually supports his facts through other scholars opinions as well, however in a separate article of
ritual subject matter, Niels Gutschow writes about the respecting aspects of ritual. In Ritual Chariots

Double Jeopardy Of The Fifth Amendment
The 1999 Paramount Pictures movie thriller Double Jeopardy is a movie about
Libby, a mother of a 4 year old son, who is convicted of killing her husband on a boat although she
has no recollection of doing so. She soon finds out that her husband faked the murder and is still alive
with her son. Libby learns in prison that if she killed her husband she cannot be committed of the
crime because she already served time for
killing him. The movie states that the rules of double jeopardy of the Fifth Amendment allow Libby to
kill her husband when she gets out of prison because she cannot be tried for the same crime twice. In
reality, if Libby had killed her husband at the end of the film, which she did, she could be tried again.

Social Security Problem In America
Many Americans believe that the social security program will face a crisis in this century because of
funds running out. The fear of the people is that he government s funds will be bankrupt when those
people try to retire. Already a quarter of most Americans believe that they will receive no benefits
from social security; what can we do about the social security problem? The reason that the problem is
occurring is because of pay as you go financing, demographic changes, the adoption of wage indexing
of the benefit formula in the 1970s. Due to the baby boomer generation, there are more americans

NFL Concussions Research
The National Football League has announced its plans to invest further in its concussion testing. On

and prevention. He also stated that the league will pledge $100 million towards reaching those goals.
In the letter Goodell says, ...when it comes to addressing head injuries in our game, I m not satisfied,
and neither are the owners of the NFL s 32 clubs. We can and will do better.
While Goodell admits that the league has to improve its dealings with concussions, it has many critics

The NFL has since then denied those claims.
Though, as the league seems to move forward with concussion polices, there are still hiccups. In
particular, one game in the league s season opener exemplifies it. Carolina Panthers superstar
quarterback and reigning Most Valuable Player Cam Newton was illegally hit with multiple helmet to
helmet collisions. There was no penalties given as he continued the game. After public scrutiny, the
league and its player union announced they will each examine the concussion protocol.
It is good to see the NFL take steps to better protect its players, but critics say it is long overdue. And
while they are fair in that assessment, even they have to agree that the league s stances on concussions
and policies has significantly changed in the last decade.
There are more calls for football to be banned, with many citing numerous safety issues. It is yet to be

Changes in Operations are Needed for Future Threats and...
Threats and terrorism will always exist and are constantly evolving. Even after the dreadful 9/11
attacks, terrorists remain diligent at planning attacks against the United States and its allies. Although
not on the same scale as the 9/11 attacks, terrorists have successfully executed plots in the United
States, the United Kingdom and France. For example, on April 15, 2013, an attack at the Boston
Marathon occurred, killing three people and injuring 264 individuals. In the United Kingdom, on 7
July 2005, the London bombing incidents took place. Fifty two individuals were killed and 700 were
injured. On 7 January 2015, there was a mass shooting at the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo office

The types of threats aimed at the nation are changing as well. Terrorist groups such as IS (also know
as ISIS or ISIL) are still interested in Western recruits because it is easier for them to travel between
countries and they are knowledgeable of western cultures and language. Individuals do not always
come from foreign countries, and are sometimes American or European citizens. The recruits lineage
can come from the country in which the terrorist reside or the recruit may be impressed or drawn to
the ideals and beliefs of another country. Terrorists or transnational criminals are not limited to
members of foreign intelligence agencies, militant groups, or insurgents, but they now also consist of
university students and business executives (Gebhardt, 2004). Some criminals and terrorist come from
well to do families or high status jobs. For example, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab also known as the
underwear bomber attempted to harm approximately 300 individuals aboard Northwest Airlines Flight

Criminal Behavior And Strict Liability
When studying criminal behavior and strict liability, exploring the possible causations that may
contribute to criminal behavior is important. Examining family backgrounds, genetic make ups and
parenting are some factors that influence criminal behavior. Understand the possible risk factors of
criminal behavior helps us to better understand why people commit crimes. This paper will attempt to
critically analyze two articles on the concept of criminal behavior and law as it pertains to strict
liability. Criminal Conduct In the early 1960 s the movement of the Model Penal Code transformed
American criminal law by the American Law Institute. The MPC seek to bring analytical clarity to the
definition and interpretation of criminal statutes that were encrusted with ill defined law terms such as
malice aforethought (Brown, 2012, p. 287). Criminal conduct can be defined as conduct of an offender
that leads to and including a commission of an unlawful act (USLEGAL, n.d.) A recent current event
that is a prime example of criminal behavior or criminal conduct is the tragedy that occurred at Smith
Mountain Lake in Virginia. A former disgruntled employee, Vester Lee Flanagan aka Bryce Williams
opened fire on WDBJ news reporter Alison Parker, camera man Adam Ward and chamber of
commerce executive woman Vicki Gardner during a live morning broadcast. Flanagan s criminal
conduct was escalated by years of what he claimed as being harassed and a victim of racial slurs and

Ethics Is A Theory Of Moral Principles Essay
Ethics can be a simple concept when first introduced, but as you go deeper into the understanding of
what is ethics and how to be ethical it becomes more complex than one would assume by reading a
single definition. In our modern world, there are plenty of people who manage to stay ethical, but as
we go further into the future more and more individuals lose that glimmer of morality that was once
upon them. The actual definition of ethics is a system of moral principles. Meaning that a
characteristic that shows through the decisions we make everyday. In relation to the concept we all go
by which is choosing between right or wrong and success or failure. Some may argue and use morals
interchangeably and disagree on whether to stay ethical is inherently found through spiritual principles
or just a philosophy of morals. There are plenty of ways one can stay ethical throughout their life
despite the temptation of doing the wrong thing to get further ahead whether that d be success or
popularity.
All throughout my life I have been given plenty of reasons to refuse the option of being ethical or
stand by my personal morals, but there is one experience that I will never forget that has challenged
my beliefs. This experience begins with me visiting my psychiatrist at the time and the following
events that led me to questioning whether the police enforcement and the hospital staff followed their
code of ethics and morals. Three years ago I experienced a change within myself yet was

Examples Of Misrepresentations In Haitian Poetry
Poetry have been a major tool for many Haitian writers to express the triumphs that they have and are
recently faced with, addressing misrepresentations that may have developed about Haiti, and to give
them a sense of hope and encouragement. In most Haitian poems you see the correlation of these
actions taking place in the defense of Haiti. Haiti has been a country who overcame many obstacles
such as; slavery, the Haitian revolution, recently the earthquake are continuing to go through many
more obstacles. Haiti as a whole have been a country for many years that have been up lifting each
other in various way, and poetry have been one of many of those ways. Patrick Sylvain, Emmanuel
Ejen, Devorah Major, and Rudwaan are examples of Haitian poets who paint a picture in a positive
light or even to portray a message of truth. In their poems Ports of Sorrow , We be Spirit People ,
Haiti: Statistics of loss and WONGOL all are poems with similar messages in different aspects of
light. The poem Ports of Sorrow by Patrick Sylvain is a poem about the pain that was developed from
the earthquake in Haiti and morn the lives of the people that were lost and a beautiful country that was
destroyed. We be Spirit People by Rudwaan is based on the Haitian revolutionary war, which was a
war fought by enslaved Haitian who defeated Napoleons army, Spanish and English as well and as a

Hardware Design Practices For Modern Hardware
Hardware is the basis of any computing system and, as such, should be the first part of the system to
consider security. The research presented in Trustworthy Hardware from Untrusted Components looks
at the present state of hardware security, analyzes the vulnerabilities and possible solutions, and
presents an alternative approach to ensure that the end result of the hardware design process is a
secure and trustworthy piece of hardware. There are many factors that contribute to the current
susceptibility of hardware to attacks. Modern hardware design practices incorporate the use of more
third party intellectual property (IP) components, such as USB components. Modern hardware design
practices require that a piece of hardware pass through thousands of engineers in the stages from
design to manufacture. Modern hardware is much more complex than what has been manufactured in
the past. Finally, modern hardware is designed by teams with relatively few designers for each
subcomponent. In an idealistic world, hardware would be designed and manufactured in a single

Kendrick Lamar Research Paper
Kendrick Lamar
I think when correlating race and social justice with music my brain goes to Kendrick Lamar
immediately for a few reasons; he is openly mad about the treatment of African Americans in modern
day America, he does excessive community outreach in Compton, and his lyrics combine soulful
African music and new age raps about his struggles in an oppressive society. He is the new voice of
Compton, filling in big shoes for Tupac and Snoop Dogg.
His sophomore album, To Pimp a Butterfly, explores institutional and internalized racism. Butterflies
are beautiful and full of color. Butterflies are so beautiful, they can t be made any more so. They can t

Lamar mocks Washington politicians with the names of gangs in his native Los Angeles, berating
them as DemoCrips and ReBloodlicans and declaring: They give us guns and drugs, call us thugs. But
underneath the album s bravado lies an introspection. Lamar repeatedly raps about overcoming
depression and finding self love. On Mortal Man, Lamar speaks of his survivor s guilt at escaping the
inner city only to be embroiled at what he described as a new struggle against discrimination.
One of Kendrick Lamar s singles I emulates self love in a society where that is frowned upon,
especially in the black community. He celebrates himself and encourages others to do so through this
uplifting and cheerful song. It is one of great contrast to many of his other more serious songs, but it s
message is still just as powerful. It s lyrics read, I love myself (the world is a ghetto with guns and
picket signs). It acknowledges the problems of the world while remaining ironically

Finny s Death In A Separate Peace
Finny s death was a shock and a dark part of the novel, A Separate Peace. John Knowles, the author,
dissolved the drama between Gene and Finny. Sadly to say his death was necessary in the novel even
though it seemed to add more guilt towards Gene. A Separate Peace written by John Knowles is a
novel about Gene`s friendship with Finny. Throughout the summer before their junior year at Devon,
Gene has become jealous of Finny due to his athletic success and how he is known throughout the
school. Unfortunately, Finny broke his leg when climbing a tree along with Gene which caused an end
to his athletic career. There were rumors mentioning that Gene did it on purpose because he wanted
Finny s athletic career to end because of his swimming record, but Finny denied so. After falling again
toward the end of their junior year, he dies. Causing Gene to finally realize he envied Finny. ... Show

It was expected that something fatal would have occurred, but not at this standard. It added much
drama toward the conflict of Gene and Finny. The amount of time Finny was in severe pain added a
mood of suspense. It was a sorrowful moment, inferior than the war that was occurring at the time.
The cause of his death was obscure at first that it added tension, causing the reader to want to know
more until finally they found out, it was a relief. The cause of Finny s death was unbelievable. You
wouldn t expect his bone marrow to affect his blood stream. It made the reader furious. Why would
such an innocent and peaceful person die just because of a bone marrow? Finny was such a intelligent

Symbolism In Desiree s Baby, By Kate Chopin
The mystery of the unknown appears in Gothic Literature almost everywhere, but while leaving the
reader guessing, hints are included to guide an inference. In Kate Chopin s Desiree s Baby she
explores the ideas of racism and the idea that women are under men and are the cause of all problems,
she also includes symbolism to portray a deeper meaning which is present in her other works.
Although it is not blatantly said in the story, it can be inferred that Desiree killed herself and her baby
near the end of the story. There is a sense of uncertainty yet prominent foreshadowing that this was
going to happen once Desiree has the realization that her baby is not fully white, and becoming
dejected. This is inferred by the inclusion of quotes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This symbol has been used in many stories including Kate Chopin s The Awakening where she uses
water as a symbol of finding freedom and being awoken. Water as a symbol has a deeper meaning of
finding oneself and being free. It is not just water, it guides characters and inspires them to either
make a change or it sets them free from their worries. Being that Desiree was troubled by the new
weight put upon her by the assumption of her husband, she feels as if she cannot live being so
unhappy. The Bayou which is an area of water being semi swamp like can be seen as a place of
freedom for Desiree. Since she chose not to take the road to her mothers and instead took the less
traveled path, it can be inferred that she wanted to be set free and thought she would never be free
even after she left her husband s plantation. This plays into leading the reader to infer that Desiree has
killed herself and her child. Kate Chopin also expresses the symbol of clothing by dressing Desiree in
pure white, characterizing her as pure and someone who can do no wrong. The dress of Desiree plays
into the foreshadowing that she is not the one to blame. White is seen as a color of purity. Desiree is
described as wearing soft white muslins and laces, both playing into purity and femininity (Chopin
329).

Jane Eyre And Great Expectations
Jane Eyre Great Expectations Comparative Essay
The novels Jane Eyre and Great Expectations both take place in a capitalist society. Marx s
fundamental ideas are prevalent in both novels. Karl Marx is a German philosopher who challenged
capitalism with the creation of communism. Marx s most essential and recognized beliefs are that
class creates conflict, modern work is alienating, and class struggle is at the heart of the society. He
also believes that individuals affected by capitalism are often rugged, which he describes as putting
self interest above the needs of the community. (Tyson 60). In Jane Eyre, Jane questions other
characters beliefs on Marxism throughout the novel. In Great Expectations, characters challenge Pip
on his Marxist beliefs. Therefore, throughout the use of interclass relationships, classism and rugged
individualism, readers are able to observe how Jane challenges others Marxist beliefs and other
characters challenge Pip s Marxist beliefs.
In the novel Jane Eyre, we re able to see how interclass relationships of all kinds were frowned upon
within society. Jane is in love with her master, Mr. Rochester who comes from a much higher social
class than her. though rank and wealth sever us widely, I have something in my brain and heart, in my
blood and nerves, that assimilates me mentally to him . (Brontë 332) Marx s idea that class struggle is
at the heart of society is evident because the class differences between Jane and Mr.

narrowing down a specific set of qualities or characteristics required to lead in that position. Since
there is no definitive definition for strategic leadership and the focus will turn to what qualities belong
to a strategic leader and thereby find the very elusive definition so many who are called upon to lead

Reducing Congestive Heart Failure Complications
Individuals with end stage decompensated congestive heart failure (CHF) will often be admitted to the
hospital when complications arise. This is often the case because treatments (such as intravenous
medications) needed to deal with the various complications of CHF require interventions that need to
be administered by a team of medical staff with close monitoring of the patient. According to the CDC
website report Hospitalizations for Congestive Heart Failure: United States 2000 2010, 5.8 million
people suffer from CHF in the United States, and hospitalization rates for individuals under the age of
65 with CHF increased significantly from 23% to 29% with rates for men higher compared to women.
Fluid retention that is unresponsive to oral diuretic treatments is one of the most common situations
that lead to a hospital admission (Austin, Hockey, Williams, Hutchison, 2013). Detecting early signs
of decompensated heart failure could help reduce the need for a hospital admission and improve the
quality of life for those with end stage CHF by allowing treatment to occur in the home setting that
might normally be provided in the hospital

The Vulnerabilities And Cyber Kill Chain
A. ICS Vulnerabilities and Cyber Kill Chain
1. Reconnaissance Summarize plausible active gathering, passive gathering, and active reconnaissance
techniques that the adversary could have executed to gain intelligence on the target in the scenario.
Reconnaissance is the act of collecting background research necessary to identify and select targets.
(1) Cyber reconnaissance is an important stage of a well organized cyber attack, and is also one of the
most time consuming activities. This phase can exploit the information gathered about the target s
weaknesses. The type of information the hacker is looking for is how to actually get in: firewall ports
that are open, network hosts, services that are running. Critical information that should be obtained
during the reconnaissance phase include network information, host information, security policies, and
human information.
Active reconnaissance is a type of computer attack in which an intruder engages with the targeted
system to gather information about vulnerabilities. (2) This type of information gathering involves
doing something on the target network, which could potentially be tracked back to you. The idea of
this phase is to gather IP addresses, subnet masks, network topologies, user names, operating systems,
firewalls, password requirements and change frequency.
Passive reconnaissance is focused more around public information and not engaging with the targeted
systems. Typical passive reconnaissance can include

An Analytical Model Of Contagion
cite{gai} developed an analytical model of contagion in financial networks with arbitrary structure
which distinguishes the probability of contagious default from its potential spread using statistical
techniques from the literature on complex networks citep[see][]{stro} into a financial system setting.
Their paper finds that although contagion risk is low, the effects can be extremely widespread.
In the financial network literature, cite{alleng} provide microeconomic foundations for financial
contagion. Using a liquidity preference model in which a shock to one part of the economy can spread
to other parts and potentially lead to an economy wide financial crisis, they find evidence connectivity
and incompleteness are conductive of contagion. Similarly, cite{freix} analyse the stability of the
banking system when one bank becomes insolvent, the role of the central bank and the effect on
market discipline. They use a model of payment flows similar to cite{dd} and find that connectedness
boosts resilience of the system but the too big to fail policy has moral hazard implications when the
central bank intervenes to allow an insolvent bank to continue operating. On the other hand, cite{bru}
model contagion in the interbank deposit market, using the return on the gambling asset as the
mechanism of contagion in this network. They find greater connectivity increases contagion risk
through two channels, the first is that banks make more risky investments given that more financial

Right Ventricle Lab Report
The function of the right ventricle (RV) is to receive the systemic venous return and to pump this
deoxygenated blood through the pulmonary arteries into the pulmonary circulation.
The RV pumps the same amount of blood as the left volume pumps, this amount equals the stroke
volume. The RV ejects blood against the pulmonary vascular resistance which is characterized by a
low impedance and a highly distensible pulmonary arteries. On the other hand, the left ventricle (LV)
ejects the blood against the systemic vascular resistance which has much higher impedance than the
pulmonary resistance. As a consequence, the RV pumps the blood with about 25% of the stroke work
performed by the LV. The RV operates under a lower pressure compared to the LV: ... Show more

A great determinant of the afterload on the RV is the pulmonary vascular resistance. The RV can be
exposed to high pressure overload states either acutely or chronically. Under acute pressure overload
states, the RV responds initially by increased contractility in order to maintain the stroke volume.
Initially, the increase in ESP is accompanied by increase in ESV and EDV which in turn stretches the
ventricular wall augmenting the contractility (Frank Starling Law). However, the RV has limited
capacity to generate higher pressure. It has been found from studies as well clinical practise that
increase in RV systolic pressure by 60% is the maximum extent by which RV can respond. Later, the
EF and SV will decrease as the mean ejection pressure increases, and this is reflected by a decrease in
COP. In addition, the RV has thin wall and the high pressure load increase the wall tension and stress.
Which leads to increase the oxygen demands causing RV ischemia. In addition, acute pressure load
leads to RV dilation which cause a decrease in LV filling and eventually a decrease in COP. Acute RV
pressure overload in adults often leads to RV dilation and failure. For example, in adults with acute
pulmonary embolism, the RV is unable to generate pressure 40 and the condition develops to RV
failure early in the presentation of acute significant pulmonary. Another example is: idiopathic

Each individual revisiting the definition of critical thinking draws from varied areas of importance in
order to validate in turn, their individual work. There are three important principles that underpin
critical thinking: scepticism, open mindedness and objectivity. Each principle is important in its own
right yet is required to work conjointly to achieve a logical, balanced argument. Scepticism is required
to authenticate relevant evidence and validate the source, it should never be assumed that a person of
authority has delivered the information in print.(Burton 2006:45) Open mindedness is remaining
impartial and being prepared to accept evidence which conflicts with personal beliefs while
considering all opinions.(Burton 2006 45 46) Objectivity is perceiving the argument while

Censorship of the Internet Essay
Should the Internet Be Censored?
When the internet was conceived in the last century (boy, that sure makes it seem a lot older than it is,
doesn t it?) it began as a free and open exchange of information. The original intent was to connect
universities and military installations together to freely exchange data. The invention of the web
continued that intention. This is supported by the lack of security in TCP/IP and in the early web
specifications.
I know it seems strange now, but there was a time, not too long ago, when there was no pornography

I sometimes wonder how quickly the internet would gave grown without this kind of material?
Think about it for a moment. Pornographic theaters died because video became available (who wants
to watch this kind of stuff in public anyway?). Now, with the advent of the internet, you don t even
need to be embarrassed at the video store you can just call it up over your phone line! No one will
know!
The major problem is this material is available to anyone even children. There are lame attempts to
place restrictions (enter a credit card number, for example) but they don t work very well and many
sites simply do not care. Oh yes, they do pay lip service and pretend that they do not allow children to
get into their sites but it s about as easy to get around as looking behind a curtain.
Which brings us to the theme of this article? Should this material be available? And if so, should
children be allowed to view it?
To me the answer to the first question is obvious. Of course the material should be available. I do not
believe in censorship at this level. I will concede that some censorship is necessary people do not have
the right to yell quot;fire quot; in a crowded theater, for example.
But wait a minute, you say? All of this material needs to be removed from the net? It s the only moral
and ethical thing to do!
I agree with you, partially. Pornography is one of the things that is damaging this country. It weakens
the bonds between family members, especially

The Price of Diamonds Is Too High
For centuries the diamond has fascinated man for its alluring sparkle and physical hardness. Formed
about three billion years ago, the diamond may very well be the oldest and most precious item any
person can own. The internationally accepted notion that this commodity is one of the most

a group of companies in an agreement known as a cartel. This essay will evaluate the diamond market

In the same light, if the price varied vastly between companies, people would be able to purchase from
the company that charges less, resulting in people losing their appreciation of the product. A threat to
the company came about in the 1950s when diamonds were discovered in Siberia, and although these
diamonds were of a somewhat inferior quality to the ones sold the company De Beers, these cheaper
diamonds would lead to a decrease in the quantity of De Beers diamonds demanded. Therefore, De
Beers bought up almost every diamond from Siberia, meaning that it owned the vast majority of the
diamonds of the world. Price fixing and output restriction were the next step to ensure that diamonds
do not lose their value to the world.
The general law of demand states that the higher the price of a good, the lower the demand. However,
the cartel introduced an incentive so that regardless of how high up they decide to push the price of
diamonds, there would still be a great demand for them. They developed the marketing strategy of
making diamonds synonymous with the idea of love and romance, an idea that is strongly valued by
cultures across the globe. As a result, even to present day times, diamonds are considered the ultimate

One resource that is essential to produce electricity is renewable energy. Providing one s own energy
consists of utilizing solar panels, wind turbines and micro hydroelectricity. Solar panels absorb energy
from the Sun to produce solar energy. A great number of people who live off the grid use solar power.
Wind turbines generate electrical power from the wind and functions in the reverse manner as a fan

micro hydroelectricity is the most efficient, reliable and commonly used form.

Corruption In Tammany Hall Scandal, By Joe Mockler

bulbs to tobacco. To add to that, politicians have become corrupt and are working for themselves, not
for the greater good of society. As a populist member, I, Joe Mockler, will combat these monstrosities
and bring back the jocular American way of life. The backbone of America, the workers, are being

Political corruption causes instability in the government, damages the economy, depletes the nation s
wealth, and a multitude of other horrid implements. Even the president, Ulysses S. Grant, became
corrupt during his presidency. In 1872, the Pacific Union Railroad went bankrupt, after being supplied
money by the federal government. So, to try and escape bankruptcy, they offered politicians and even
the president, Ulysses S. Grant, shares of their stock in exchange for more funding. Furthermore,
many politicians that were offered accepted the bribe, continuing corruption in the United States.
Another famous example is the Tammany Hall Scandal. William Tweed turned Tammany Hall, in New
York City, into a political machine. Then, he used it to facilitate widespread corruption, and most
importantly, to rob New York of almost $100 million. One particular example of corruption occurred
during election day when the Republican party hired Armed U.S Marshals to stand outside of the polls
to improve their prospects. The guards would stop Democrats from voting for their own party, denying
their fifteenth amendment rights. The Populist strives to end political corruption and create a more
stable political environment for future generations. America has entered a dark, depressing age where
workers are mistreated, massive businesses drown other businesses, and widespread corruption runs
rampant on the local, state, and federal level. But there is hope for our broken, fragmented nation. The
populist party fights to restore America to its former greatness and will fight for what is right and what
is needed. I implore you to vote for the Populist party to help create a prosperous future and a better

Panzar And Rosse Test Essay
The classical evaluation method of competition estimate concentration index to basically analyze the
industry and market structure. But this method criticized as competition is more related to conduct not
to structure, thus empirical test to calculate the degree of competition seems to be more benefited.
Panzar and Rossse developed an experience based model to evaluate the elasticity of total revenue
with respect to changes in input prices and they reject the hypothesis of monopoly if the sum of
revenues is positive (Shaffer, 1982). The Panzar and Rosse test founded on this reality that a regarding
market demand curves of firms, a profit maximizer monopolist (MR = MC 0), will operate on elastic
point of that curve as MR 0 addressed to elastic demand, while it is not true for competitive group of
firms. In this study we have calculate the H Statistic respect to firm s elasticity of demand and make

The Islamic empire is known for Dar Al Islam which is the Islamic golden age where new technologies etc. flourish the religion of Islam. Scientific, medical, and philosophical texts, especially from ancient Greece, the Hellenistic world, and India, were systematically translated into Arabic, for several centuries providing an enormous boost to Islamic scholarship and science. (440) This means that the Muslims ancient texts related to science, medicine and philosophy, and written it in Arabic. This helped the Islamic empire because it expanded their knowledge and helped them understand the material from other empires as well. This affected Islam because with understanding of the texts, they would incorporate it into the faith to meet the standards of Sharia. Going more in depth, the Arabs in the Islamic empire developed Algebra, which is used today. Using Indian numerical notation, for example, Arab scholars developed algebra as a novel mathematical discipline. As different parts of the world grew more interconnected, and the prosperity of one nation became tethered to the prosperity of another, many world actors searched for the right recipe of economic and political policies to help them weather the turbulent global market. In the first era, we see a focus on three pillars as the foundation for the world economic order. This included the gold standard, free trade, and the growth of international finance. Governments chose to protect citizens against unemployment, sickness, disability, old age, and poverty. This stems from another major distinction between the two eras, which was increased autonomy to pursue polices conducive to domestic prosperity after WWII. In addition, in the second era differnet groups such as political and economic elites as well as capital and labor work together to figure out solutions that are more utilitarian. Amylase Breakdown Of Starch Lab Report Temperature and its effect on Bacillus licheniformis (bacteria) and Aspergillus oryzae (fungal) amylase breakdown of starch Isidro Planell Panther ID: 5164085 General Biology lab 1 U06 Emmanuel Gonzalez Pablo Gonzalez Abstract: The experiment s goal was to study the effects of temperature and the rate of breakdown of starch by fungal and bacterial amylase. In order to conduct this experiment four samples were taken from both specimen and placed in four different temperatures. After a period of time a portion of the sample was taken and added to a portion of starch which was then mixed with iodine. Iodine reacts with starch to produce a change in color in the iodine from a brown to a dark purple. This serves as a method of measuring the breakdown of the starch by the amylase by comparing the color of iodine when mixed with starch and comparing it with the added amylase. It was also noted that because both specimen reacted differently with the temperature change, it was concluded that thy had differing optimal temperatures (Bacillus licheniformis reacting with an optimal temperature of 55 degrees Celsius while Aspergillus oryzae reacted optimally with a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius). In order to conduct the experiment, samples from both specimens were taken and placed in four test tubes all with a different temperature. Iodine was then taken and placed into a spot plate labeled with the type of amylase and corresponding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Traditions Of Rituals By Nicholas B. Dawe Essay The traditions of rituals is strongly examined by author Nicholas B. Dirks in Ritual and Resistance: Subversion as a Social Fact, where he attempts to persuade readers of the drawbacks of ritual practices through an anthropological point of view. Dirks explains to his readers of the fundamentals of rituals as: brimming with resistance , opposed to [everyday] , along with the centrality of the subject of power (Dirks 1994, 483 503). Continuing to state his supporting arguments through the article, Dirk s concludes that too much of regular (daily) ritual practices creates a normalization in the ritual itself (Dirks 1994, 483 503). Understanding the perspective of the creation of ordinarity of the practices, one could argue that the repetition of a curtain act of a tradition can become a normality such as Dirks states in his writings; however, if the act of tradition is not conducted daily, yet instead semi annually/annually, there would not be a normality. Dirks presents his thesis as [focussing] on everyday forms of resistance, critiquing both anthropological assumptions about ritual and historical reifications of [the] assumptions (Dirks 1994, 483). Dirks finds the negative components of ritual practices, and continually supports his facts through other scholars opinions as well, however in a separate article of ritual subject matter, Niels Gutschow writes about the respecting aspects of ritual. The actual definition of ethics is a system of moral principles. Meaning that a characteristic that shows through the decisions we make everyday. The research presented in Trustworthy Hardware from Untrusted Components looks at the present state of hardware security, analyzes the vulnerabilities and possible solutions, and presents an alternative approach to ensure that the end result of the hardware design process is a secure and trustworthy piece of hardware. There are many factors that contribute to the current susceptibility of hardware to attacks. Modern hardware design practices incorporate the use of more third party intellectual property (IP) components, such as USB components. Modern hardware design practices require that a piece of hardware pass through thousands of engineers in the stages from design to manufacture. Modern hardware is much more complex than what has been manufactured in the past. Finally, modern hardware is designed by teams with relatively few designers for each subcomponent. In an idealistic world, hardware would be designed and manufactured in a single secure location with trusted personnel handling the process from inception to manufacture; however, this idea is ineffective and cost prohibitive making it unlikely to be put into practice. Hardware design follows a very similar process as the software engineering lifecycle and even has many of the same steps. Although it is not blatantly said in the story, it can be inferred that Desiree killed herself and her baby near the end of the story. This symbol has been used in many stories including Kate Chopin s The Awakening where she uses water as a symbol of finding freedom and being awoken. Water as a symbol has a deeper meaning of finding oneself and being free. It is not just water, it guides characters and inspires them to either make a change or it sets them free from their worries. Being that Desiree was troubled by the new weight put upon her by the assumption of her husband, she feels as if she cannot live being so unhappy. The Bayou which is an area of water being semi swamp like can be seen as a place of freedom for Desiree. Since she chose not to take the road to her mothers and instead took the less traveled path, it can be inferred that she wanted to be set free and thought she would never be free even after she left her husband s plantation. This plays into leading the reader to infer that Desiree has killed herself and her child. Kate Chopin also expresses the symbol of clothing by dressing Desiree in pure white, characterizing her as pure and someone who can do no wrong. The dress of Desiree plays into the foreshadowing that she is not the one to blame. White is seen as a color of purity. Desiree is described as wearing soft white muslins and laces, both playing into purity and femininity (Chopin 329). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Marx s most essential and recognized beliefs are that class creates conflict, modern work is alienating, and class struggle is at the heart of the society. He also believes that individuals affected by capitalism are often rugged, which he describes as putting self interest above the needs of the community. (Tyson 60). In Jane Eyre, Jane questions other characters beliefs on Marxism throughout the novel. In Great Expectations, characters challenge Pip on his Marxist beliefs. (1) Cyber reconnaissance is an important stage of a well organized cyber attack, and is also one of the most time consuming activities. This phase can exploit the information gathered about the target s weaknesses. The type of information the hacker is looking for is how to actually get in: firewall ports that are open, network hosts, services that are running. However, the RV has limited capacity to generate higher pressure. It has been found from studies as well clinical practise that increase in RV systolic pressure by 60% is the maximum extent by which RV can respond. Later, the EF and SV will decrease as the mean ejection pressure increases, and this is reflected by a decrease in COP. In addition, the RV has thin wall and the high pressure load increase the wall tension and stress. Which leads to increase the oxygen demands causing RV ischemia. In addition, acute pressure load leads to RV dilation which cause a decrease in LV filling and eventually a decrease in COP. Acute RV pressure overload in adults often leads to RV dilation and failure. For example, in adults with acute pulmonary embolism, the RV is unable to generate pressure 40 and the condition develops to RV failure early in the presentation of acute significant pulmonary. Another example is: idiopathic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although Russia formally denied any military involvement in Ukraine, soldiers in unmarked Russian fatigues entering the Crimean peninsula and the accidental placement of artillery pieces beyond the Russo Ukrainian border didn t make it very hard to figure out who was responsible for the invasion of Crimea. Everyone s theories were proven true when Russian President Vladimir Putin officially announced that the Russian Federation was annexing the Crimean Peninsula from the Ukrainian government. In this paper, I will discuss the Russian military involvement in Ukraine and the actions taken by the United States and Canada in response to these activities from the perspective of Mearsheimer s five tenets of offensive neorealism. Protests and violence continue until mid February, when the leaders of both the government and the opposition agreed to create a new government, resulting in the diminishing of Yanukovich s powers and his escaping out of Kiev when the protesters took control of the city and the former Prime Minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, is installed as the interim leader. After these events, Aleksey Chaly, a pro Russian leader, was elected as the new mayor of Sevastopol and supporters of the Russian Federation began to take control of buildings around the Crimean Peninsula and set in motion movements for Crimean separation. On February 28th, men in unmarked fatigues took control of the Simferopol airport and a Military airfield near Sevastopol, following which, the Russian government claimed that these military actions were in order to protect their fleet in the Black Sea. In March, Russian troops continued to spread across Crimea and the Crimean Parliament declared their wishes to join with Russia. At this time, the EU and the US gave their support to the Ukrainian government by creating trade agreements and rejecting the Crimean Referendum. There are three important principles that underpin critical thinking: scepticism, open mindedness and objectivity. Each principle is important in its own right yet is required to work conjointly to achieve a logical, balanced argument. Scepticism is required to authenticate relevant evidence and validate the source, it should never be assumed that a person of authority has delivered the information in print.(Burton 2006:45) Open mindedness is remaining impartial and being prepared to accept evidence which conflicts with personal beliefs while considering all opinions.(Burton 2006 45 46) Objectivity is perceiving the argument while disregarding all emotional responses. • 38. Censorship of the Internet Essay Should the Internet Be Censored? When the internet was conceived in the last century (boy, that sure makes it seem a lot older than it is, doesn t it?) it began as a free and open exchange of information. The original intent was to connect universities and military installations together to freely exchange data. The invention of the web continued that intention. This is supported by the lack of security in TCP/IP and in the early web specifications. I know it seems strange now, but there was a time, not too long ago, when there was no pornography on the internet. In fact, all of the hate, pornographic and similar sites are actually rather new (less than half a dozen years in most cases). There was no need or tolerance for this kind of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I sometimes wonder how quickly the internet would gave grown without this kind of material? Think about it for a moment. Pornographic theaters died because video became available (who wants to watch this kind of stuff in public anyway?). Now, with the advent of the internet, you don t even need to be embarrassed at the video store you can just call it up over your phone line! No one will know! The major problem is this material is available to anyone even children. There are lame attempts to place restrictions (enter a credit card number, for example) but they don t work very well and many sites simply do not care. Oh yes, they do pay lip service and pretend that they do not allow children to get into their sites but it s about as easy to get around as looking behind a curtain. Which brings us to the theme of this article? Should this material be available? And if so, should children be allowed to view it? To me the answer to the first question is obvious. Of course the material should be available. I do not believe in censorship at this level. I will concede that some censorship is necessary people do not have the right to yell quot;fire quot; in a crowded theater, for example. But wait a minute, you say? All of this material needs to be removed from the net? It s the only moral and ethical thing to do! I agree with you, partially. Pornography is one of the things that is damaging this country. • 39. Essay on The Price of Diamonds Is too High The Price of Diamonds Is Too High For centuries the diamond has fascinated man for its alluring sparkle and physical hardness. Formed about three billion years ago, the diamond may very well be the oldest and most precious item any person can own. The internationally accepted notion that this commodity is one of the most treasurable commodity of them all has led to the public being prepared to pay the prices that are set by a group of companies in an agreement known as a cartel. This essay will evaluate the diamond market on a microeconomic level and discuss how the diamond cartel came about, what has allowed it to operate for decades, as well as how it determines the price of diamonds. In the same light, if the price varied vastly between companies, people would be able to purchase from the company that charges less, resulting in people losing their appreciation of the product. A threat to the company came about in the 1950s when diamonds were discovered in Siberia, and although these diamonds were of a somewhat inferior quality to the ones sold the company De Beers, these cheaper diamonds would lead to a decrease in the quantity of De Beers diamonds demanded. Therefore, De Beers bought up almost every diamond from Siberia, meaning that it owned the vast majority of the diamonds of the world. Price fixing and output restriction were the next step to ensure that diamonds do not lose their value to the world. The general law of demand states that the higher the price of a good, the lower the demand. However, the cartel introduced an incentive so that regardless of how high up they decide to push the price of diamonds, there would still be a great demand for them. They developed the marketing strategy of making diamonds synonymous with the idea of love and romance, an idea that is strongly valued by cultures across the globe. As a result, even to present day times, diamonds are considered the ultimate token of love, and any of the other gems of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One resource that is essential to produce electricity is renewable energy. Providing one s own energy consists of utilizing solar panels, wind turbines and micro hydroelectricity. Solar panels absorb energy from the Sun to produce solar energy. A great number of people who live off the grid use solar power. Wind turbines generate electrical power from the wind and functions in the reverse manner as a fan does. Micro hydroelectricity is another source of energy, which fascinatingly uses a source of running water, like a stream, to generate electricity (Dunn 3). Between all three sources of renewable energy, micro hydroelectricity is the most efficient, reliable and commonly used form. Undoubtedly, the most important resource people work to provide for an off grid lifestyle is water. One method of obtaining water is through a water catchment system. • 42. Corruption In Tammany Hall Scandal, By Joe Mockler My fellow Americans, America is falling apart right in front of our eyes. The American way of life is deteriorating and we may never recover. The working class of America is being treated poorly, and it continues to become worse. Massive businesses dominate every aspect of the economy, from light bulbs to tobacco. To add to that, politicians have become corrupt and are working for themselves, not for the greater good of society. As a populist member, I, Joe Mockler, will combat these monstrosities and bring back the jocular American way of life. The backbone of America, the workers, are being treated appallingly. Political corruption causes instability in the government, damages the economy, depletes the nation s wealth, and a multitude of other horrid implements. Even the president, Ulysses S. Grant, became corrupt during his presidency. In 1872, the Pacific Union Railroad went bankrupt, after being supplied money by the federal government. So, to try and escape bankruptcy, they offered politicians and even the president, Ulysses S. Grant, shares of their stock in exchange for more funding. Furthermore, many politicians that were offered accepted the bribe, continuing corruption in the United States. Another famous example is the Tammany Hall Scandal. William Tweed turned Tammany Hall, in New York City, into a political machine. Then, he used it to facilitate widespread corruption, and most importantly, to rob New York of almost $100 million. One particular example of corruption occurred during election day when the Republican party hired Armed U.S Marshals to stand outside of the polls to improve their prospects. The guards would stop Democrats from voting for their own party, denying their fifteenth amendment rights. The Populist strives to end political corruption and create a more stable political environment for future generations. America has entered a dark, depressing age where workers are mistreated, massive businesses drown other businesses, and widespread corruption runs rampant on the local, state, and federal level. But there is hope for our broken, fragmented nation. The populist party fights to restore America to its former greatness and will fight for what is right and what is needed. But this method criticized as competition is more related to conduct not to structure, thus empirical test to calculate the degree of competition seems to be more benefited. Panzar and Rossse developed an experience based model to evaluate the elasticity of total revenue with respect to changes in input prices and they reject the hypothesis of monopoly if the sum of revenues is positive (Shaffer, 1982). The Panzar and Rosse test founded on this reality that a regarding market demand curves of firms, a profit maximizer monopolist (MR = MC 0), will operate on elastic point of that curve as MR 0 addressed to elastic demand, while it is not true for competitive group of firms.
