Our Faith Affirmed: Works from the Gordon W. Bailey Collection
Colored Hobo (1980) by Joe Light

A Formal Analysis of Joe Light s Colored Hobo
Joe Light produced his mixed media painting Colored Hobo in the 1980s using different kinds of paint
on a wooden panel (wooden door that is turned sideways). Just as the title proposes, the painting s
subject is a colored man that is hobo who is walking with a stick and a bag at the end of the stick
carried on his shoulder. The painting is currently exhibited at the University of Mississippi Art
Museum. It is part of the Our Faith Affirmed: Works from the Gordon W. Bailey ... Show more

His use of warm colors throughout the piece and his use of cool colors mixed in with the warm colors
creates balance. However, the contrast between the warm colors and the cool color create variety. The
little window on the door has a random picture of what looks like a leaf and flowers growing on top of
the leaf also create variety because it is not part of the male hobo who is the main focus. The little
picture in the window is the only other thing in the artwork besides the male hobo which makes the
viewer question its purpose (well it definitely made me question what it had to do with the artwork!).
Light uses dark black lines outline to show the mountains, his overalls, his hat, his stick, his bag tied at
the end of his stick, the river or stream, and the grass. The lines show the shape of everything in the
picture. The value of the picture is between medium and dark, though the orange in the mountains and
the pink in the river or stream is bright. The space of the art piece is negative, open, and shallow. The
texture of this two dimensional painting is smooth (well, he did use

Francesca Woodman Research Paper
Francesca Woodman was born in Denver, Colorado in the year 1958 to George and Betty Woodman
(Stokic). Her parents were artists who moved the family to Italy where every summer Francesca, and
her brother Charlie, were taken out of schools and put into new schools for two years (The Woodman).
Charlie had diabetes, which could be fatal; as a result the parents gave more attention to him than to
Francesca which allowed her more freedom (The Woodman). Betty and George Woodman went to art
museums frequently and brought Charlie and Francesa along and handed them notebooks to leave
them alone while they looked at art (The Woodman). This was the time in which Francesca learned to
appreciate and like art. She even started drawing self portraits (The Woodman). As a result of the lack
of attention she received at home, she made the decision to go to boarding school to get away from the
family (The Woodman). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

George gave her before she left for school ( she was closure to George than her mom). (The

Design where she specialized in nude art (The Woodman). Most of her professors said that she had a
flirty, rockstar, intense personality (The Woodman). Her art was described as feminist, narcissistic,
seductive, and nonpresent because she liked to take photos of herself and other people in the nude

gothic literature. As a result she only took photos in black and white

‘The Metamorphosis’ and ‘A Hunger Artist’
There are many parallels and differences between Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis and A Hunger
Artist . Kafka portrays these differences and similarities very effectively through his utilization of
elements such as transformation, dehumanization, and dedication to work. Through his works, Kafka
communicates with the reader in such a way that almost provokes and challenges one s imagination
and creativity.
Kafka is known for his highly symbolic and oblique style of writing. It is no surprise that several of
his pieces contain the same major themes, just in different settings. The fact that he repeats his styles
only makes the message that he is trying to convey much stronger. In both The Metamorphosis and A
Hunger Artist , the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In A Hunger Artist, the main character s lack of fulfillment causes him despair. He reacts to this
disparity by starving himself, almost as if showing resistance to the outside world. He views himself
as separate from everyone else, thus confining himself in a cage (Bedford 636).
Another evident similarity between the two works is the treatment of the characters. Both Gregor and
the hunger artist are treated inhumanely. This is clear in The Metamorphosis when Greta begins to
think of Gregor as an it (Metamorphosis 51). Although Gregor has transformed physically, he is still
human inside. Everyone around him fails to see that though, and only regard him by what they see,
which is a bug. Likewise, the hunger artist is not treated as a human being either. The hunger artist is
infatuated with being the best faster in Europe. This obsession deprives him from forming any social
or long lasting relationships. His alienation eventually accounts for his demise, along with the fact that
he is constantly misunderstood. The people who come to see him, as well as the people who guard
him, do not understand that he is not fasting for amusement. Fasting beyond the forty day limit is
important to the hunger artist, but no one can comprehend why, which creates a barrier between the
hunger artist and the outside world. Because of this barrier, people treat him as if he is just another
animal in a cage. When he joins

Willy Loman Hallucinations
Literature has often been used to explain problems within society. This can be seen in Arthur Miller s
play Death of a Salesman. Arthur Miller s play was set in the late 1940 s in a post World War II
economy. Willy and Linda Loman and their two sons: Biff and Happy, live in Brooklyn, New York
and are the main characters. Death of a Salesman discusses the life of Willy and the struggles he goes
through everyday. Willy Loman is a suicidal man, whom searches for reasoning within the world. In
Arthur Miller s play Willy Loman often has hallucinations about life when he was a young man.
Along with his hallucinations, Willy is very paranoid, constantly feeling that life is very unfair and
that someone is out to get him. Some see these symptoms and believe that Willy has a mental disorder.
Within this time period mental illness was not to be spoken about or acknowledged. Due to the
hallucinations, the voices within Willy s head, and his suicidal thoughts one may see Willy Loman as a
schizophrenic. Many people whom have schizophrenia have hallucinations. A hallucination is when
one sees something, which is not actually there. Keeping brainpower is ultimately more valuable than

Nimrud Research Paper
The remains of the city, Nimrud, tell many stories about itself throughout its lifespan. Even though
most of the remains left today were destroyed by an Islamic terrorist group, we can still replicate,
through the architecture, the lives of the Nimrud people. Through the statues built and the reliefs on
the walls we can determine the everyday lives, wars, and divinity that the people of Nimrud lived
among.
Sir Layard was the first to head an excavation team at Nimrud. He choose this site considering his

From the expedition were two colossal winged lions, which Layard insisted be kept intact, unlike

Louvre Museum. Layard moved his winged lions whole, much in the same way they had originally

and good environment are the main techniques that amateur soccer players require to avoid soccer
injuries. Differently, professional or elite players require much more intense and intricate avoidance as
soccer is major part of their daily routine. Ways that elite soccer players can avoid injuries is having
pre seasonal physical examination, daily exercise training sessions and following the doctor s
recommendation. The injuries that are experienced by the soccer players are Anterior Cruciate

Aboriginal Voting Rights
This report will cover the history of the Aboriginal Voting rights in Australia. The Aboriginals did not
gain the right to federal voting at least 150 years after the British colonized in Australia. All citizens of
a nation deserve equal rights.
Several key events and people influenced the journey and results of Aboriginal voting rights. Many
major contributions towards the indigenous voting rights can be described as international criticism,
Aboriginal Protests and Political conflicts. Male Aboriginal Australians were recognised as male
people, and therefore could vote in state elections, It was expected to stay this way. However, the
white Australia policy in 1901 caused many Aboriginal Men to lose their state voting rights and
banned them from enrolling in federal elections, According to (hgj) The electoral officials had the
power to decide who was an Aboriginal Native or not. After several years of discrimination, in 1934
Indigenous Australians took a stand in a day of mourning for indigenous rights. Another powerful
argument for Aboriginal Australians was their world war efforts from 1914 to 1918. Many white
Australians that fought with the Indigenous Australians believed that if they are good enough to fight
and die for their country then they are good enough to vote in elections As a result of this effort, 1945
marked the year that all male Aboriginal war participants were granted Federal election voting rights.
It is important to remember when and how the

The Contrasting Views of Roger Williams and John Winthrop
The Contrasting Views of Roger Williams and John Winthrop People immigrated to America for many
reasons, most people shared in the same ideas of going to the New World to start new lives away from
England. Roger Williams and John Winthrop both joined in the Puritan dissent to New England, but
while they were living in Boston, Massachusetts they did not agree on several matters. These two men
had contrasting views when it came to Christianity, separating from the Church of England and
religious liberty. First, Roger Williams does not believe that Christianity was the only religion of God.
He believes that God created human beings and endowed them with the inborn right to make choices
in the matters of faith. While staying with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He and his fellow Puritans did not break from the Church because they sought to reform it in the New
World. When Winthrop heard all the commotion Williams was making with his protesting he referred
to it as infection that would easily spread to the people and churches. Lastly, Roger Williams is a
strong supporter of religious liberty. Religious liberty is another example on how Williams believed
the people should be able to practice their own religion, not have it decided by the government. He
protests that civil authority should be limited to civil matters and that magistrates had no jurisdiction
over the soul (174). Meaning that the government does not have the right to enforce religious duties
on people, to let them believe on their own. Williams put it as wanting to build a wall of separation
between state and church in order to keep the holy and pure religion of Jesus Christ from
contamination by the slightest taint of earthly support (Miller 174). This was the main argument of
Williams that caused him to become unwelcome in both Plymouth and Boston. John Winthrop did not
oppose to dissent just that there needed to be limits set. He worried that if dissent was not kept within
bounds, it would undermine the community and that integrity of the community demanded religious
conformity. Winthrop believes challenges to religious authority could undermine the political

Should Huckleberry Finn Be Taught In Schools
The novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is one of the most controversial novels
written in American literature. Multiple different people have disagreed about this novel and whether
it should be allowed to be taught in school or banned since the late 1980s. The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn is a valuable novel and should be included in high school curriculum because it
teaches students about the history of American society, it demonstrates Twain s style of writing, and it
addresses the topic of race. The novel was written when slavery still existed in America, and people s
lifestyles were incredibly different from modern day. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn takes place

Acoustic Characteristics Of Courtship And Agonistic...
Why was the study Acoustic characteristics of courtship and agonistic vocalizations in Przwewalskii s
horse and in domestic horse (Alberghina et al. 2015) carried out and what benefits has it brought to the
research area? The study in question seeks to analyse the difference between the vocalisation of 2
species of the genus Equus in order to develop a deeper understanding of morphological factors
affecting the sounds the animals make which in turn may provide data that then allows further
research into evolutionary divergence. The two species are very similar but are different slightly at
both a physical and genetic level. These species have different chromatic numbers yet are so closely
related that they can produce fertile offspring as documented by Bennett and Hoffman (1999).
Domestic horses only exist as they are due to human intervention and so the divergence of domestic
horses from their wild counterparts is fairly recent in evolutionary terms. This makes the study
valuable not only in adding to the limited research on Przwewalskii vocalizations but also to further
evolutionary biology. Equally its findings may also set a precedent for differences in vocalisations
between other closely related species as referenced to in the text are studies on different animals of
which some are only very distantly related to horses, even so far as to include a reference to a study on
different species clownfish (Colleye et al. 2011). This essay aims to summarize and critically

There are a number of barriers to professional development within my role and a number of things
which you need to think about when booking/planning training for your staff. I have outlined the
potential barriers which I am likely to face within my role: * Lack of funding to access training * Lack
of staff to cover training * Courses being cancelled by organisation * No time * No
support/encouragement from your manager * General lack of appropriate training which you require *
No one to acknowledge your training needs through supervisions and appraisals * No confidence or
drive to strive for better * Transport (do not drive, no bus routes etc) * Lack of childcare (or unable to

Ethics, Unnatural Laws, By Arthur A. Leff
Part One: Summary In the article Unspeakable Ethics, Unnatural Laws, Arthur A. Leff took an
agnostic approach when determining what morality should be comprised of. He suggested that
humans struggle with desiring to follow a predetermined and unchallengeable set of moral rules, while
at the same time wanting the autonomy to create those rules.
If ethical rules are preordained, they would need to come from a supernatural being that was unruled,
unjudged, and beyond question: God. If God exists, we are created to fit into His system and should
therefore abide by His rules. God dictates the laws of the world through what Leff refers to as
performative utterances . These utterances are essentially His will made into reality via His command.
Performative utterances are the act of God creating the rules that govern the world. He is the only
being who has the capacity to do this without facing the inevitable says who mentality.
This sort of attitude ensues when beings of equal rank differ in their opinions of what is right and what
is wrong, with no overarching authority. It is this problem in particular that leads philosophers to
despair; if there is no God, there is no steady ethical or legal system that can be put into place. There is
nothing more correct or more flawed than anything else. There will never be progress, as you cannot
progress from something you cannot deem to be less suitable. If there is no such higher being, we are
all that is left to decide for

How Did Historians Contribute To The Civil Rights Movement
The Civil Rights Movement is often thought to begin with a tired Rosa Parks defiantly declining to
give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. She paid the price by going to jail. Her refusal
sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which civil rights historians have in the past credited with
beginning the modern civil rights movement. Others credit the Supreme Court s landmark decision in
Brown v. Board of Education with beginning the movement. Regardless of the event used as the
starting point of the moment, everyone can agree that it is an important period in history. In the forty
five years since the modern civil rights movement, several historians have made significant
contributions to the study of this era. These historians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whites were afraid to be labeled as racially moderate, and typically had to join the side of white
supremacy for many reasons, among them the fact that class had previously aligned African
Americans and poorer whites in a fight against poverty, Brown elevated racial status above class.
Also, the decision made those in power in the South exert their disproportionate political power to
keep the state government in their hands. Finally, some Southerners who normally would not care
about race were swayed by the fact that the federal government was trying to impose a decision in
education an arena typically reserved for state government. This made the fight one of states rights
versus federal decree. Klarman s argument claims that this mobilization of white resistance in the
South led to increased tension and violence against African Americans. For example, the bitter
protests in Birmingham and Selma, along with the violence in the Black Belt areas of Lowndes
County, where police dogs, fire hoses and lynching were used came as a result of this massive
resistance movement. This violence, when media attention was paid to it, converted northern whites to
the civil rights cause by exposing the true evils of the Jim Crow system. Civil rights leaders, such as
Martin Luther King, played on that knowledge and specifically targeted cities where the most
powerful backlash would occur, gaining them media air time and allowing the Northerners to

chances for a penalty to occur. But, if the initial date and end date are long term, this lease, called a

Catherine Earnshaw Essay
As represented in Catherine Earnshaw s early characterization, the social and cultural ideals of the
time period are heavily reinforced through Catherine s defiant individualism and love for the initially
lowly Heathcliff, which contrasts with the civility and propriety of the people around her. Despite
being set solely in the Yorkshire Moors in England, the delicate social hierarchy of class is clearly
seen in the residents of both Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, in which Wuthering Heights
lacks the class, refinement, and civilization of the latter. Despite the era s social expectations of
women as submissive and demure individuals expected to marry into a wealthy family, Catherine
rejects these very standards through her fierce love for Heathcliff ... Show more content on

With this description, Catherine emphasizes the social values of the eighteenth century through her
willingness to defy authority and reason, pitting her against the strict societal expectations of the era.
However, the exposure of Catherine to Thrushcross Grange as she stays at the manor to recover from
the injury to her ankle, prompts a transformation in her romanticist character that openly explores the
cultural values of the Yorkshire Manors. The civility of the Lintons in Thrushcross Grange transforms
the once defiant and youthful Catherine into a mature and well groomed lady that develops an internal
conflict between her love for the well mannered and wealthy Edgar Linton and the lowly Heathcliff.
In Brontë s novel, Catherine emphasizes her characterization in a scene where she laments this
internal conflict saying, I ve no more business to marry Edgar Linton than I have to be in heaven; and
if the wicked man in there had not brought Heathcliff so low, I shouldn t have thought of it. It would
degrade me to marry Heathcliff now; so he shall never know how I love him (Brontë

Persuasive Essay On Student Loans
College students graduate with an average student loan debt of approximately $37000. Of course, that
s not the whole story. Millions of college graduates have student loan debts ranging from $50,000 to
over $200,000.
With debt like that and sluggish economic growth, it s no wonder that more than a million people
defaulted on their student loans in 2016 alone.
Sometimes, though, the problem isn t the debt or a person s salary. The problem is the way student
loans get billed.
Say a student transferred from one college to another then attended graduate school. She could be
getting bills from three or more lenders every month.
If you struggle to keep track of who you owe money to at what time, it s probably time for you to
consolidate school loans.
Let s jump in and look at some of the reasons why.
Consolidate School Loans to Get One Interest Rate
Student loans interest rates change from year to year. Congress sets them based on performance in the
financial markets.
Say you spent four years as an undergrad and six years in graduate school. That means you re paying
student loans at ten interest rates. Depending on when you got the loans, there s a good chance that
some of those rates are higher than the current going rate.
Consolidating your loans lets you lock them all down at a single interest rate. If you time it right, you
can trim thousands off the total interest you pay over the lifetime of the loan.
Let s say you took out $100,000 in loans with average interest

Descriptive Essay On Gamble House
The Gamble House The Gamble House is historical for its beautiful architecture and its unique design.
When I first heard of it I assumed it was known for something more than just its appearance. When I
first heard its name I thought it was know for something a bit cooler like a secret place where only the
elites would go to gamble and it had a secret room inside where if you were to pull a book off of a
bookshelf a door would open and you would find a secret room with poker tables and a bar. But of
course that was before I did any research, although there could still be a secret room for all I know.
When I arrived at the building it looked very official, it had its own bookstore (with extremely
overpriced items might I add) and a pond out back. It was so beautiful with a large balcony and 3
floors. It didn t look as though it was built in 1908, in fact it looked like a modern house, but that is
probably due to the restoration it has had over the years. But my favorite part was that the house had a
beautiful front door with a gorgeous stained glass design. The design was of a large tree in various

Could you turn down three wishes? Can you take advice from those who came before you? Do you
know there are always consequences for every action?
Setting The main setting of the short story The Monkey s Paw is the White family home, known as
Lakesnam Villa. The story seems to be set around the 1900 s. The first section of the story covers a
single night within the lives of the Whites. The next section covers the following day. The last part
happens at night time, ten days after Herbert dies. As the story opens, inside things are warm and

He has a few drinks, then tells them about his adventures in foreign lands, and shows them a monkey s

Whites that the paw was specifically designed to harm the people who choose wish on it. He has
wished on it himself but is not certain if he would do it again. Since the paw could not presumably
really have magic powers, what damage could be done by counting in on it, only for fun? Well, Mr.
White does decide to make a wish, for two hundred pounds the amount of money required to pay off
the family home. The very next day, Herbert is killed in an accident at the factory where he works. To
compensate the Whites for his death, Herbert s employers provides them with two hundred pounds,
the exact amount Mr. White wished for. When Mrs. White begs Mr. White to wish Herbert back to
life, we re pretty certain he is aiming to do it. However once it appears that the mangled, undead
Herbert is really at the door, there s a ton of suspense over whether Mr. White can go against his wife s
wishes and do what he wants. Nevertheless, his fear of undead Herbert wins over his fear of his wife.
This part is a very frustrating. Mr. White does wish, though we are not told exactly what he wishes for.

Dantes Inferno
Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli demonstrated that the different critical exegetical positions, regarding the
Divine Comedy (whose intent appears on one side as a disciplinary and moral renewal of the Church,
and on the other side as a hidden, heretical reversion) were not free from contemporary pressures. In
fact, their own theories are able to offer a valid evidence of the nineteenth century s political and
religious debates, and for this reason, I am going to analyse the interpretation of Dante s work by Ugo
Foscolo, through both, the Discorso sul testo della Divina Commedia , and two articles that Foscolo
published in the Edinburgh Review in 1818; in addition, I am going to analyse the interpretation by

Obviously, being impossible to summarize the vast, esoteric, exegesis of Dante proposed by them, I
am feeling obliged to try to highlight some common key of readings as, for example: 1) the relation
between the symbol of the Cross (representing the Roman Church) and the Eagle (representing the
Empire), whose doctrines are linked to mankind s need for salvation. These two institutions (Church
and Empire), according Dante s thought, had to be both settled at the centre of Rome, as at the time of
the Holy Roman Empire. In addition, according to Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli, Dante attacked the
Church exclusively because he wanted the renewal of the spiritual dimension, where the Church had
to abandon its material interests, leaving exclusively to the Empire the task to unify Peoples under a
unique government. In this way, both Church and Empire would have been able to help humankind for
their spiritual and material ends. 2) Another common key of reading, for Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli, is
linked with the symbol of Beatrice, which is seen by the three interpreters, not as a real woman, but as
a symbol of the wisdom, present in many ancient traditions. 3) I will try to highlight the fact that the
esoteric reading of Dante, is considered by both, Foscolo and Rossetti in key heterodox, neo
Pythagorean and Ghibelline, while it is considered by Valli in super catholic key. In brief, in my thesis,
I will try to find all common passages of Dante s oeuvre, used by Foscolo,Rossetti and Valli, analysing

We Have Too Much Power In A Communist Society
Merriam Webster dictionary defines the word own as, to have power or mastery over, this mean
anyone who owns something, has the power to do what they want with it. We must first ask, who
gives us the power to own something? Is it the government? Is it our peers? Is it ourselves? These are
the questions that must be answered to say who owns anything at all. The correct answer would be
that it is a combination between the three, that we as a society are the ones to say who owns
something.
First and foremost, the type of government plays a major role in deciding how much power an
individual has in owning something. In a capitalist society, anyone can own anything, because it is a
free market. The individuals of this society have all agreed, that paper money has value, and can be
exchanged for goods, property, or anything for that matter. Since this currency is in play, the people
can purchase what they want. The government then keeps track of most expensive items such as car,
land, and buildings. If there is a dispute over ownership, then the government can enforce the law,
allowing the rightful owner to own their property. In a Communist society however, the government is
ruled under a dictatorship. The ideal communist society would be that everyone gets an equal share.
This means that an individual cannot own more than their peer, and nobody gets ... Show more content

then anarchy would ensue, allowing only the strongest to own items, because they can fight for their
property. If the society is not democratic, then the peers have no say into what everyone can own. It is

The Performance Of The Symphony No.9
The performance of the Symphony No.9 by Beethoven, conducted by Lenard Bernstein, was a
magnificent piece that captured all the emotion of the people, from the sorrow of those lost in the war
to the joy of the freedom they had just acquired. This piece was placed in Berlin to celebrate the
uniting of East and West Germany. It was performed in the restored Schauspiel house, which had been
completely destroyed during the war. It was restored to be one of the world s finest concert halls. This
performance was such a large, historic event that it was televised in over 20 different countries.
Lenard Bernstein even took this event as seriously as to change the lyrics of the last movement from
the German word for joy to the German word for freedom to commemorate the momentous occasion.
The performing forces for this event were quite elaborate. The Bavereon Radio Orchestra was joined
by the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Orchestra of the Leningrad Kirov Theatre, the London symphony
Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Paris Orchestra. In regards to vocalists, the Baverien
Radio chorus sung in addition to the Berlin radio chorus and the children s chorus of the Dresden
Philharmonic. The soloists were June Anderson, Sara Walker, Klaus Konig, and Jan Hendrik
Rootering. One interesting thing to note about the conductor is that while conducting the orchestra he
didn t have any music sheets. He knew the music so well that he didn t need to have it in front of him.

Industry, government and agriculture comes at the crossroads. There are so many implications for the
external factors which come into this picture. As CPI had won the election for the seventh consecutive

government has recommended the Singur for the Nano Plant. As Ratan Tata was looking for the place

Benefits And Benefits Of Parental Leave
Our society is changing each and every day, new technology advancements, new medical practices,
and new industrial technology advancements, just to name a few. With this being said, shouldn t the
benefits be changing along with this? You have medical leave, maternity leave and in rare occasions,
paternity leave. Why shouldn t parents be able to take off time together to bond with their newborns or
new family members in such a case as adoption? So I took some time to study about parental leave,
this is when I came across some very interesting information. When looking at the statistics, the
benefits really out weigh the disadvantages. Parental leave policies with a required minimum of

Short Hills New Jersey Essay
Short Hills New Jersey real estate is one of the most sought after for many good reasons, one of them
is that it is very close to New York City. In fact, many residents work in Manhattan. It helps a lot that
from early on, the village has always had a good connection to the city of New York by means of
transportation.
The founder of Short Hills New Jersey, a millionaire named Stewart Hartshorn had the vision and
foresight to transform his rolling 1,552 acre property into a model village with sophisticated planning.
For example, Hartshorn would have a new railroad station built in the Short Hills, in addition to the

Hartshorn s foresight with regards to Short Hills New Jersey real estate is rather like Bugsy Seagel s

difference is that the former envisioned a peaceful community with plenty of greenery, marked by the

Persuasive Speech About Secondhand Smoke
Tobacco smoke contains more than 7,000 chemicals, including hundreds that are toxic and about 70
that can cause cancer (Smoking Tobacco Use). Secondhand smoke can be especially harmful to your
children s health because their lungs are still developing and introducing such toxins to their lungs can
cause serious damage. This PSA, created by the National Health Service, is hoping to reach parents
who are smokers and eliminate the harm caused to children by the effects of secondhand smoke. The
use of pathos is exemplified in this PSA because there is an emotional message around harming
children. Not only harmfulness to children is being showcased but also the harmer is identified as a
caregiver to the child. Logos is displayed in the text and statistics provide to support the message. This
PSA uses a mixture of pathos and logos to convey a powerful message that secondhand smoke is
harmful to your child. Identifying the correct specific audience for your PSA is crucial in producing
the most influential message. The specific audience for this PSA are parents, or those who care for
children, who smoke around their children. The PSA reached the target audience perfectly by making
the smoke made arm and hand most likely directed at parents and/or care givers of children. After
many smokers see this announcement they will be less likely to smoke around children, potently
leading to a decline secondhand smoke pollution to children. Images in PSAs are often the first to
catch the viewer s eye, therefore, they play a huge role in the impact the PSA has on the reader. In this
PSA you see an arm formed from smoke choking a young boy. Making the arm from smoke was used
to not only catch the reader s eye, but helped to portray the message with imagery. The hand starts as a
faint smoke and grows into a solid grey to show how the smoke is not seen but still power. The child
is obviously looking up at someone who is taller than he is. In most cases, parents are taller than their
children. It is likely that he is looking up at one of his parents or someone who cares for him. The
child also seems to be calm, likely because secondhand smoke is an invisible hazard . One of the

Should Retail Investors Invest in Index Tracker Funds...
SHOULD RETAIL INVESTORS INVEST IN INDEX TRACKER FUNDS RATHER THAN
ACTIVELY MANAGED FUNDS?
Introduction:
This essay sets out to know which type of investment fund is better for a retail investor. By this, we
will consider the meaning and operations of an index tracker fund, as well as that of the actively
managed funds. Furthermore, identify the advantages of index tracker funds over actively managed
funds and draw conclusions in relation to the topic above.
What is an index? An index is a group of securities which gives reports of variations in the activities
of a stock market. For instance, these reports could be changes in monthly or annual returns or prices,
usually recorded in percentage. Index tracker fund managers track ... Show more content on

While in replication, index managers use the exact percentage which is in the target index. [Lionel
Martellini, Philippe Priaulet, Stéphane Priaulet (2003)]
Actively managed (operations, advantages/disadvantages):
On the other hand, some portfolios do not represent a shareholders profit in a market. Such portfolios
are not based on market capitalization. Their aim is to give a different result from what the market has.
This is known as the actively managed fund strategy. Unlike the index tracker funds, the actively
managed fund manager is actively involved in the market. They may be able to detect when stocks are
over priced or under priced, hence, they may be able to pick out those stocks which yield the highest
dividends and invest in them. [Monevator the investor (2008)].
Actively managed fund managers believe their strategy produces greater performance compared to the
benchmark value (market value). Be that as it may, actively managed funds have risks because their
approach is regarded as gambling. This is because they buy stocks which they believe are undervalued
and sell stocks which are overvalued. The undervalued stocks may either yield higher returns, or,
those stocks may be underperforming stocks which will lead to loss. So therefore investing in an
actively managed fund is more or less like gambling with your resources, and so, the quality of your
outcome is based on such

Art And Body Art
What is the first thing a person sees when meeting new people? How does it make them feel when that
person that they are talking to has several tattoos and/or piercings? When a woman has a full face of
makeup, first thoughts are. And, does it really matter. Early this year in a case study, by Hutson
(2017), shows how people (both men and women) perceive women who wear makeup in the
workplace. It shows how men see these women as more prestige and how women see them as more
dominant. However, on the other hand, Eure, Miller, Nicols (2008) theorized that people s personal
feelings and behaviors can be altered by tattoos and body piercing. Generally, most corporations in
Cleveland, Ohio still believe that artistic body expression is somewhat gaudy and taboo (and they
want everybody to fit into the norm) so they pretty much do not hire people that have visible body art
which just might go against Article 19. However, it may be possible for corporations to gain an
understanding that body art is just that, art and that people have the right to the Freedom of
Expression.
A common misconception is that people believe that their first impression of others is who they are
and/or how they act. Similar to walking around with tattoos or piercings, people assume that they
might be in a gang or have a bad reputation. Same with wearing a lot of makeup; except people
imagine they sleep around and like to party. How a person is seen defines the impression people will
have on them until

Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven
Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most successful writers of all time. Twelve of Poe s works are known for
their literary construction. The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most famous poems in history
and was first published in 1845. This is a poem that many readers may describe as dark, twisted, and
even scary can be oddly moving and eye catching. What were the meanings in his masterpiece, and
what did Poe want his readers to understand? Poe s literary work The Raven shows literary elements
of symbolism, theme, and imagery.
First and foremost, a symbol is an object, person, or place that has meaning in it self. This also stands
for something bigger, usually an idea or concept. The raven s darkness symbolizes death. Death
becomes a constant reminder and intruder. The raven also symbolizes the narrator s memories of
Lenore and grief. At the end of the poem the narrator himself even realizes the ravens meaning; when
he states the raven will be with him forever because thoughts of Lenore will be forever with him. This
can be why the ravens symbol is so dark. Additionally, December is another symbol is Poe s poem.
December is in winter, and nothing lives in the winter. December can symbolize death. December is
an end of something, and also the anticipation of something new, a change, to happen. (Hallqvist).
Another symbol many readers see is midnight. Midnight is the darkest part of night. The large,
shadowy raven arrives at midnight on a dreary evening, and taunts the

Essay about Virgin Suicides
Each year suicide is becoming more common in the United States among adolescents, according to the
Suicide and Mental Health Association International. The main reason why adolescents commit
suicide is because they are depressed. In the article Nightmare in the Mirror by Scott Long, he
explains that adolescence has changed throughout the years. An assertion he makes is that teens have
Angst and bouts of suicidal despair distinguish this gloomy figure (Long 156). Long explains that
throughout the years, adolescents have become sadder and depressed. Adolescents, who suffer from
depression and are suicidal, don t usually inform others. Those adolescents fall into the third quadrant

As a result of being isolated from others, the girls become depressed. Lux makes the statement I can t

youngest daughter, committed suicide the girls were still sheltered. Cecilia s psychiatrist told the
parents that the girls needed another social outlet besides school. This proves that it is not healthy for
adolescents to not be social. With the girls now without the social outlet of school, the girls became
lonely and depressed. According to neuropsychiatrist, Rajesh Parikh, Alcoholism and suicide become
a handmaiden due to loneliness and depression . In other words, people who are lonely and depressed
have a higher risk of committing suicide. Since the girls were lonely and depressed, they were at a
higher risk of committing suicide. Since the girls were depressed, this later resulted in their suicide.
Suicide attempts are usually made when a person is seriously depressed and feels that there is no way
out of their problems according to D Arcy Lyness, PhD. Adolescents commit suicide because they feel
as if they can not escape emotional pain. The Lisbon girls were simply depressed. The majority of
adolescents who commit suicide suffer from depression. From the film The Virgin Suicides, it is
obvious that the Lisbon girls are depressed. The Lisbon girl s depression was the cause of their

Dale Matheny
February 29 2012
The book Moneyball by Michael Lewis is about a former major league baseball player who became
the manager of the Oakland A s. It tells the story of how he led the team to success despite their low
budget by using computer based analytics to draft players. With the help of Bill James, the Oakland A
s came up with a new plan based on statistics to draft players. He went after players nobody wanted
due to their low budget and his new plan. Billy led the Oakland Athletics to a successive win seasons
by changing the way he measured players. He abandoned the traditional 5 tool the other scouts used
and adopted empirical analytics. The abandonment of the traditional assessment of ... Show more

Despite all these limiting factors it did not stop him from leading the team to a 20 consecutive wins.
The Oakland A s were different from other teams. They did not let anything stop them, they did
extraordinary things. As their salary decreased they got better, this is very unusual. The new approach;
sabermetrics helped the team change and improve in a short about of time. This new approach caused
problems for the Oakland A s. It caused problems with the team; Billy and the Oakland scouts. Some
people and teams hate sabermetrics and think it does not help with winning.
The new approach helped the Oakland A s succeed because it was ethical. Billy Beane used numbers
to evaluate the players. Numbers matter but can be misleading. By looking closely and understanding
what he was doing Billy made good decisions based on numbers. The old approach was unethical
because it misjudged the players. In the old fashion statistics of the players some key important factors
were left out. For instance the old statistics did not mention the number of walks a batter earned. This
left out information misleads coach s judgments and resulted in scouts undervaluing players.
Just like in baseball there are large and small businesses. Businesses have to make decisions, decisions
that will help the business in the long run. By using analytics business can measure their performance
to know where they stand financially and economically. Numbers are very important in a

Essay On Jersey Shore
Television genres in the post network era are important because genres can target a larger range of
audience, which results in higher ratings. Genres also help create different and unique narratives that
influence popular culture. Jersey Shore illustrates how the reality television genre has a huge impact
on popular culture, society and viewers. Jersey Shore is about women and men some of Italian descent
that party and do whatever they want. The show explicitly illustrates the roles of guidos (males) and
guidettes (females), these people are working class Italian Americans. Even though the show is
representing the Italian population in the U.S. it is not doing a proper job because the representation is
incorrect. The characters and performances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Colbert Report is an American late night talk show, which is a news satire and comedic program.
The show illustrates how the comedy and satire genre is important when it comes to informing people
about political and controversial topics. The comedic element of the show makes the program
entertaining and informative. In comparison to The Harvest of Shame this documentary that was used
to inform the American people about a sever issue made people feel bad, it was depressing. The
Colbert Report takes boring political issues and makes them interested, which appeals to younger
adults. Many young adults do not pay attention to politics because it is boring or too difficult to
understand. The show takes a political subject, simplifies it and makes it interesting. For example, in
one episode he discusses the 2016 election and makes fun of a statement of Donald Trump, it s not
only funny, but informative. Stephen Colbert is always talking to the audience directly, which creates a
better connect with the viewers. Shows like The Colbert Report bring people together to discuss
important topics. The comedy and satire of the show is just a technique to reach more people and
create a safe environment to discuss these sensitive topics. There are many talk shows that are
comedic and satire because it makes the show self reflexive. In conclusion, genre is a major factor
when it comes to creating

The Dog Pets For Children
Every family should be required to own a pet so that children can experience love and learn the

Legalizing Abortion
Legalizing Abortion
As the rate of abortion has rapidly increased for past several years, it has been an issue that everyone
has thought about it at least once. Abortion is the deliberate killing of the weakest and most
defenseless among us. There can be plausible reasons that they support abortion. However, I oppose to
legalize abortion because not only that parents should accept the responsibility that comes with
producing a child, but also it is highly risky for women both physically and mentally and the fact that
it is undeniably a murder.
Firstly, people need to take responsibility for their actions and accept the consequences. Unwanted
pregnancy is often caused by the sexual intercourse for pleasure. We already have learned that ...

If we legalize the abortion, the pain of unborn human beings will be unstoppable in the end.
Some people would say that when the baby is fertilized by a rape, it would be a horrible for the
women. However, in that case, there are a lot of caring systems where professionals give women
comfort and get psychological treatment. Also, the baby can be adopted by someone who really wants
adoption. By that, the women can at least get rid of the stress of raising kid.
I strongly oppose abortion, it should not be taken lightly; as one of the solutions, more of education
has to be done for all of the young adults which can teach responsibility of their actions. In addition, a
lot of dangerous factors caused on women are very disastrous, which can cause infertility for the
whole life or even death. The gravity of death of women is not light. What if the action of killing
unborn child is equal to killing grown man and women? Wouldn t legalizing the abortion be
considered again?

My Life
I should have stopped him, I knew he was too young, his body; too weak, his brain; not smart enough
but I still let him go. His mother, Mrs. Robert s had made the mistake to trust me with her only child,
Cameron. I regret what happened to him, he was just an innocent five years old, full of energy and
curiosity that I used against him. I wish I could take it all back but I can t because that poor child is
already dead. Only because I let the evil inside me run free and chained the conscience to the back of
my brain. That one decision will haunt me for the rest of my life.
The same summer Cameron died, I was supposed to marry his uncle, Ben. A tall, handsome man with

Everyone was happy, including Ben. He knew he would not be inheriting anything anymore but it
seemed like he didn t care, But I did.
I still remember the day, Cameron died , it was a regular July morning in the campsite, the smell of
burning wood and birds chirping had woken Cameron and I earlier than usual, just in time to watch
the sunrise. The morning sky was pink like a sea of cotton candy, with the light of the sun coloring the
clouds above with a pinkish hue. As the sun slowly ascended, the sky in the west became a deep neon
blue as the light reached further out. By the time we finished breakfast, the pink in the sky had become
a pale yellow mixed with blue. It was a peaceful morning but the peace of it did not remain for too
long instead it was replaced by regret that has still yet to leave me.
Cameron like every five years old loved exploring, the animal noises coming from the woods
intrigued him. There was a waterfall nearby, I took him there. It was not the gentle sort of waterfall
you might see in a stately home garden, it was the kind where torrents of water are poured over rocks
hard enough to crack your skull and mash your brains on the way down, then swirl in a plunge pool
below deep enough to drown you if you survived the fall. From the bottom, it was awe inspiring, from
the top it was brutal and terrifying. Cameron wanted to jump into it but I didn t let him instead I
agreed to play hide and seek. He ran into the forest in order to hide. In

60 Minutes Benghazi Report
The truth, so simple yet so difficult. We associate truth with facts and reality, but sometimes reach a
grey area when defining a true story. A journalist s job is not only to report facts and data to the public,
but also to tell the story. Now I am not saying journalism and storytelling are synonymous; journalists
are not just simply storytellers. Journalists gather, assess, create, and present news and information.
They use a dynamic form of storytelling, a journalistic form. Journalists are enablers, allowing the

Bailey Collection Colored Hobo (1980) by Joe Light Approx. 34 x 82 in. Mixed media on wood panel A Formal Analysis of Joe Light s Colored Hobo Joe Light produced his mixed media painting Colored Hobo in the 1980s using different kinds of paint on a wooden panel (wooden door that is turned sideways). Just as the title proposes, the painting s subject is a colored man that is hobo who is walking with a stick and a bag at the end of the stick carried on his shoulder. The painting is currently exhibited at the University of Mississippi Art Museum. It is part of the Our Faith Affirmed: Works from the Gordon W. Bailey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His use of warm colors throughout the piece and his use of cool colors mixed in with the warm colors creates balance. However, the contrast between the warm colors and the cool color create variety. The little window on the door has a random picture of what looks like a leaf and flowers growing on top of the leaf also create variety because it is not part of the male hobo who is the main focus. The little picture in the window is the only other thing in the artwork besides the male hobo which makes the viewer question its purpose (well it definitely made me question what it had to do with the artwork!). Light uses dark black lines outline to show the mountains, his overalls, his hat, his stick, his bag tied at the end of his stick, the river or stream, and the grass. The lines show the shape of everything in the picture. The value of the picture is between medium and dark, though the orange in the mountains and the pink in the river or stream is bright. The space of the art piece is negative, open, and shallow. The texture of this two dimensional painting is smooth (well, he did use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Francesca Woodman Research Paper Francesca Woodman was born in Denver, Colorado in the year 1958 to George and Betty Woodman (Stokic). Her parents were artists who moved the family to Italy where every summer Francesca, and her brother Charlie, were taken out of schools and put into new schools for two years (The Woodman). Charlie had diabetes, which could be fatal; as a result the parents gave more attention to him than to Francesca which allowed her more freedom (The Woodman). Betty and George Woodman went to art museums frequently and brought Charlie and Francesa along and handed them notebooks to leave them alone while they looked at art (The Woodman). This was the time in which Francesca learned to appreciate and like art. She even started drawing self portraits (The Woodman). As a result of the lack of attention she received at home, she made the decision to go to boarding school to get away from the family (The Woodman). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of her professors said that she had a flirty, rockstar, intense personality (The Woodman). Her art was described as feminist, narcissistic, seductive, and nonpresent because she liked to take photos of herself and other people in the nude (Stokic). • 7. ‘The Metamorphosis’ and ‘A Hunger Artist’ There are many parallels and differences between Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis and A Hunger Artist . Kafka portrays these differences and similarities very effectively through his utilization of elements such as transformation, dehumanization, and dedication to work. Through his works, Kafka communicates with the reader in such a way that almost provokes and challenges one s imagination and creativity. Kafka is known for his highly symbolic and oblique style of writing. It is no surprise that several of his pieces contain the same major themes, just in different settings. The fact that he repeats his styles only makes the message that he is trying to convey much stronger. In both The Metamorphosis and A Hunger Artist , the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In A Hunger Artist, the main character s lack of fulfillment causes him despair. He reacts to this disparity by starving himself, almost as if showing resistance to the outside world. He views himself as separate from everyone else, thus confining himself in a cage (Bedford 636). Another evident similarity between the two works is the treatment of the characters. Both Gregor and the hunger artist are treated inhumanely. This is clear in The Metamorphosis when Greta begins to think of Gregor as an it (Metamorphosis 51). Although Gregor has transformed physically, he is still human inside. Everyone around him fails to see that though, and only regard him by what they see, which is a bug. Likewise, the hunger artist is not treated as a human being either. The hunger artist is infatuated with being the best faster in Europe. This obsession deprives him from forming any social or long lasting relationships. His alienation eventually accounts for his demise, along with the fact that he is constantly misunderstood. The people who come to see him, as well as the people who guard him, do not understand that he is not fasting for amusement. Fasting beyond the forty day limit is important to the hunger artist, but no one can comprehend why, which creates a barrier between the hunger artist and the outside world. Because of this barrier, people treat him as if he is just another animal in a cage. When he joins ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though most of the remains left today were destroyed by an Islamic terrorist group, we can still replicate, through the architecture, the lives of the Nimrud people. Through the statues built and the reliefs on the walls we can determine the everyday lives, wars, and divinity that the people of Nimrud lived among. Sir Layard was the first to head an excavation team at Nimrud. He choose this site considering his earlier travels near Nimrud. One of his major find was the sculpture of the King Ashurnasirpal II. From the expedition were two colossal winged lions, which Layard insisted be kept intact, unlike similar lamassu from Khorsabad that had been cut into smaller sections for their transportation to the Louvre Museum. Layard moved his winged lions whole, much in the same way they had originally been transported to Nimrud in antiquity. The Aboriginals did not gain the right to federal voting at least 150 years after the British colonized in Australia. All citizens of a nation deserve equal rights. Several key events and people influenced the journey and results of Aboriginal voting rights. Many major contributions towards the indigenous voting rights can be described as international criticism, Aboriginal Protests and Political conflicts. Male Aboriginal Australians were recognised as male people, and therefore could vote in state elections, It was expected to stay this way. However, the white Australia policy in 1901 caused many Aboriginal Men to lose their state voting rights and banned them from enrolling in federal elections, According to (hgj) The electoral officials had the power to decide who was an Aboriginal Native or not. After several years of discrimination, in 1934 Indigenous Australians took a stand in a day of mourning for indigenous rights. Another powerful argument for Aboriginal Australians was their world war efforts from 1914 to 1918. Many white Australians that fought with the Indigenous Australians believed that if they are good enough to fight and die for their country then they are good enough to vote in elections As a result of this effort, 1945 marked the year that all male Aboriginal war participants were granted Federal election voting rights. • 13. The Contrasting Views of Roger Williams and John Winthrop The Contrasting Views of Roger Williams and John Winthrop People immigrated to America for many reasons, most people shared in the same ideas of going to the New World to start new lives away from England. Roger Williams and John Winthrop both joined in the Puritan dissent to New England, but while they were living in Boston, Massachusetts they did not agree on several matters. These two men had contrasting views when it came to Christianity, separating from the Church of England and religious liberty. First, Roger Williams does not believe that Christianity was the only religion of God. He believes that God created human beings and endowed them with the inborn right to make choices in the matters of faith. While staying with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He and his fellow Puritans did not break from the Church because they sought to reform it in the New World. When Winthrop heard all the commotion Williams was making with his protesting he referred to it as infection that would easily spread to the people and churches. Lastly, Roger Williams is a strong supporter of religious liberty. Religious liberty is another example on how Williams believed the people should be able to practice their own religion, not have it decided by the government. He protests that civil authority should be limited to civil matters and that magistrates had no jurisdiction over the soul (174). Meaning that the government does not have the right to enforce religious duties on people, to let them believe on their own. Williams put it as wanting to build a wall of separation between state and church in order to keep the holy and pure religion of Jesus Christ from contamination by the slightest taint of earthly support (Miller 174). This was the main argument of Williams that caused him to become unwelcome in both Plymouth and Boston. John Winthrop did not oppose to dissent just that there needed to be limits set. He worried that if dissent was not kept within bounds, it would undermine the community and that integrity of the community demanded religious conformity. Winthrop believes challenges to religious authority could undermine the political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Multiple different people have disagreed about this novel and whether it should be allowed to be taught in school or banned since the late 1980s. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a valuable novel and should be included in high school curriculum because it teaches students about the history of American society, it demonstrates Twain s style of writing, and it addresses the topic of race. • 15. Acoustic Characteristics Of Courtship And Agonistic... Why was the study Acoustic characteristics of courtship and agonistic vocalizations in Przwewalskii s horse and in domestic horse (Alberghina et al. 2015) carried out and what benefits has it brought to the research area? The study in question seeks to analyse the difference between the vocalisation of 2 species of the genus Equus in order to develop a deeper understanding of morphological factors affecting the sounds the animals make which in turn may provide data that then allows further research into evolutionary divergence. The two species are very similar but are different slightly at both a physical and genetic level. These species have different chromatic numbers yet are so closely related that they can produce fertile offspring as documented by Bennett and Hoffman (1999). Domestic horses only exist as they are due to human intervention and so the divergence of domestic horses from their wild counterparts is fairly recent in evolutionary terms. This makes the study valuable not only in adding to the limited research on Przwewalskii vocalizations but also to further evolutionary biology. Equally its findings may also set a precedent for differences in vocalisations between other closely related species as referenced to in the text are studies on different animals of which some are only very distantly related to horses, even so far as to include a reference to a study on different species clownfish (Colleye et al. 2011). • 18. Ethics, Unnatural Laws, By Arthur A. Leff Part One: Summary In the article Unspeakable Ethics, Unnatural Laws, Arthur A. Leff took an agnostic approach when determining what morality should be comprised of. He suggested that humans struggle with desiring to follow a predetermined and unchallengeable set of moral rules, while at the same time wanting the autonomy to create those rules. If ethical rules are preordained, they would need to come from a supernatural being that was unruled, unjudged, and beyond question: God. If God exists, we are created to fit into His system and should therefore abide by His rules. God dictates the laws of the world through what Leff refers to as performative utterances . These utterances are essentially His will made into reality via His command. Performative utterances are the act of God creating the rules that govern the world. He is the only being who has the capacity to do this without facing the inevitable says who mentality. This sort of attitude ensues when beings of equal rank differ in their opinions of what is right and what is wrong, with no overarching authority. It is this problem in particular that leads philosophers to despair; if there is no God, there is no steady ethical or legal system that can be put into place. There is nothing more correct or more flawed than anything else. There will never be progress, as you cannot progress from something you cannot deem to be less suitable. If there is no such higher being, we are all that is left to decide for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. How Did Historians Contribute To The Civil Rights Movement The Civil Rights Movement is often thought to begin with a tired Rosa Parks defiantly declining to give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. She paid the price by going to jail. Her refusal sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which civil rights historians have in the past credited with beginning the modern civil rights movement. Others credit the Supreme Court s landmark decision in Brown v. Board of Education with beginning the movement. Regardless of the event used as the starting point of the moment, everyone can agree that it is an important period in history. In the forty five years since the modern civil rights movement, several historians have made significant contributions to the study of this era. These historians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whites were afraid to be labeled as racially moderate, and typically had to join the side of white supremacy for many reasons, among them the fact that class had previously aligned African Americans and poorer whites in a fight against poverty, Brown elevated racial status above class. Also, the decision made those in power in the South exert their disproportionate political power to keep the state government in their hands. Finally, some Southerners who normally would not care about race were swayed by the fact that the federal government was trying to impose a decision in education an arena typically reserved for state government. This made the fight one of states rights versus federal decree. Klarman s argument claims that this mobilization of white resistance in the South led to increased tension and violence against African Americans. For example, the bitter protests in Birmingham and Selma, along with the violence in the Black Belt areas of Lowndes County, where police dogs, fire hoses and lynching were used came as a result of this massive resistance movement. This violence, when media attention was paid to it, converted northern whites to the civil rights cause by exposing the true evils of the Jim Crow system. Civil rights leaders, such as Martin Luther King, played on that knowledge and specifically targeted cities where the most powerful backlash would occur, gaining them media air time and allowing the Northerners to ... Millions of college graduates have student loan debts ranging from $50,000 to over $200,000. With debt like that and sluggish economic growth, it s no wonder that more than a million people defaulted on their student loans in 2016 alone. Sometimes, though, the problem isn t the debt or a person s salary. The problem is the way student loans get billed. Say a student transferred from one college to another then attended graduate school. She could be getting bills from three or more lenders every month. Dantes Inferno Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli demonstrated that the different critical exegetical positions, regarding the Divine Comedy (whose intent appears on one side as a disciplinary and moral renewal of the Church, and on the other side as a hidden, heretical reversion) were not free from contemporary pressures. In fact, their own theories are able to offer a valid evidence of the nineteenth century s political and religious debates, and for this reason, I am going to analyse the interpretation of Dante s work by Ugo Foscolo, through both, the Discorso sul testo della Divina Commedia , and two articles that Foscolo published in the Edinburgh Review in 1818; in addition, I am going to analyse the interpretation by Rossetti through his work titled ... Obviously, being impossible to summarize the vast, esoteric, exegesis of Dante proposed by them, I am feeling obliged to try to highlight some common key of readings as, for example: 1) the relation between the symbol of the Cross (representing the Roman Church) and the Eagle (representing the Empire), whose doctrines are linked to mankind s need for salvation. These two institutions (Church and Empire), according Dante s thought, had to be both settled at the centre of Rome, as at the time of the Holy Roman Empire. In addition, according to Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli, Dante attacked the Church exclusively because he wanted the renewal of the spiritual dimension, where the Church had to abandon its material interests, leaving exclusively to the Empire the task to unify Peoples under a unique government. In this way, both Church and Empire would have been able to help humankind for their spiritual and material ends. 2) Another common key of reading, for Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli, is linked with the symbol of Beatrice, which is seen by the three interpreters, not as a real woman, but as a symbol of the wisdom, present in many ancient traditions. 3) I will try to highlight the fact that the esoteric reading of Dante, is considered by both, Foscolo and Rossetti in key heterodox, neo Pythagorean and Ghibelline, while it is considered by Valli in super catholic key. We Have Too Much Power In A Communist Society Merriam Webster dictionary defines the word own as, to have power or mastery over, this mean anyone who owns something, has the power to do what they want with it. We must first ask, who gives us the power to own something? Is it the government? Is it our peers? Is it ourselves? These are the questions that must be answered to say who owns anything at all. The correct answer would be that it is a combination between the three, that we as a society are the ones to say who owns something. First and foremost, the type of government plays a major role in deciding how much power an individual has in owning something. In a capitalist society, anyone can own anything, because it is a free market. The individuals of this society have all agreed, that paper money has value, and can be exchanged for goods, property, or anything for that matter. Since this currency is in play, the people can purchase what they want. The government then keeps track of most expensive items such as car, land, and buildings. If there is a dispute over ownership, then the government can enforce the law, allowing the rightful owner to own their property. Benefits And Benefits Of Parental Leave Our society is changing each and every day, new technology advancements, new medical practices, and new industrial technology advancements, just to name a few. With this being said, shouldn t the benefits be changing along with this? You have medical leave, maternity leave and in rare occasions, paternity leave. Why shouldn t parents be able to take off time together to bond with their newborns or new family members in such a case as adoption? So I took some time to study about parental leave, this is when I came across some very interesting information. When looking at the statistics, the benefits really out weigh the disadvantages. Parental leave policies with a required minimum of twelve weeks paid leave to use at the parents will within the first four years of the child s life should be offered in United States, like in Sweden, because children and parents will both benefit from this. A person will have to make observations of the current parental leave policies in the United States and in Sweden. I will discuss the benefits and costs of having parental leave policies which include: government involvement, effects of the temporary workforce, and the requirements of parental leave. To do justice for this research I have limited my parental leave to focus on adoptive and biological family members only. I acknowledge other forms of parental leave, but I will remain focused on adoptive and biological leave. Finally, I will propose possible solutions to parental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In fact, many residents work in Manhattan. It helps a lot that from early on, the village has always had a good connection to the city of New York by means of transportation. The founder of Short Hills New Jersey, a millionaire named Stewart Hartshorn had the vision and foresight to transform his rolling 1,552 acre property into a model village with sophisticated planning. For example, Hartshorn would have a new railroad station built in the Short Hills, in addition to the railroad connection between Hoboken, New Jersey and New York City already in existence. Hartshorn s foresight with regards to Short Hills New Jersey real estate is rather like Bugsy Seagel s transformation of a portion of the Nevada desert into the thriving Las Vegas gambling resort. The only difference is that the former envisioned a peaceful community with plenty of greenery, marked by the so called Short Hills Park that continues to uplift the image of the area to this day. • 39. Persuasive Speech About Secondhand Smoke Tobacco smoke contains more than 7,000 chemicals, including hundreds that are toxic and about 70 that can cause cancer (Smoking Tobacco Use). Secondhand smoke can be especially harmful to your children s health because their lungs are still developing and introducing such toxins to their lungs can cause serious damage. This PSA, created by the National Health Service, is hoping to reach parents who are smokers and eliminate the harm caused to children by the effects of secondhand smoke. The use of pathos is exemplified in this PSA because there is an emotional message around harming children. Not only harmfulness to children is being showcased but also the harmer is identified as a caregiver to the child. Logos is displayed in the text and statistics provide to support the message. This PSA uses a mixture of pathos and logos to convey a powerful message that secondhand smoke is harmful to your child. Identifying the correct specific audience for your PSA is crucial in producing the most influential message. The specific audience for this PSA are parents, or those who care for children, who smoke around their children. The PSA reached the target audience perfectly by making the smoke made arm and hand most likely directed at parents and/or care givers of children. After many smokers see this announcement they will be less likely to smoke around children, potently leading to a decline secondhand smoke pollution to children. Images in PSAs are often the first to catch the viewer s eye, therefore, they play a huge role in the impact the PSA has on the reader. In this PSA you see an arm formed from smoke choking a young boy. Making the arm from smoke was used to not only catch the reader s eye, but helped to portray the message with imagery. The hand starts as a faint smoke and grows into a solid grey to show how the smoke is not seen but still power. The child is obviously looking up at someone who is taller than he is. In most cases, parents are taller than their children. It is likely that he is looking up at one of his parents or someone who cares for him. The child also seems to be calm, likely because secondhand smoke is an invisible hazard . One of the underlying meanings of the picture is that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Descriptive Essay On A Perfect Storm A Perfect Storm The dark clouds churned and twisted. Water droplets and needle like ice pellets bombarded down on me from above. The downpour made it impossible to see even a mere five feet in front of your face. I started to lose my footing on the slick, slippery grass. It was a warm, fresh morning. A light breeze ruffled bright green leaves in the trees. There was not a cloud in the sky. It was the perfect summer day. I rode my bike over to Matthew Lange s house. We found ourselves in his garage messing with his airsoft guns. We grabbed them and went around the neighborhood looking for Cal and Will to have a war. We found them over at Izzy s house prank calling people from her garage phone. We called a couple people of our own and decided to quit after asking Apple Roofing if they could come put apples on my roof. We should get more guys and some more guns and have a war , Will suggested. Cal, Matthew, Will, and I rode around on our bikes around until we found some other neighborhood kids who had airsoft guns. A couple people wanted eye protection so I rode home and grabbed some sunglasses. We were all set for war when it started to sprinkle a bit. Nothing that could stop us from being outside, but it should have been a warning of what there was to come. We continued to play as the sky was getting darker and darker. [Monevator the investor (2008)]. Actively managed fund managers believe their strategy produces greater performance compared to the benchmark value (market value). Be that as it may, actively managed funds have risks because their approach is regarded as gambling. • 43. Art And Body Art What is the first thing a person sees when meeting new people? How does it make them feel when that person that they are talking to has several tattoos and/or piercings? When a woman has a full face of makeup, first thoughts are. And, does it really matter. Early this year in a case study, by Hutson (2017), shows how people (both men and women) perceive women who wear makeup in the workplace. It shows how men see these women as more prestige and how women see them as more dominant. However, on the other hand, Eure, Miller, Nicols (2008) theorized that people s personal feelings and behaviors can be altered by tattoos and body piercing. Generally, most corporations in Cleveland, Ohio still believe that artistic body expression is somewhat gaudy and taboo (and they want everybody to fit into the norm) so they pretty much do not hire people that have visible body art which just might go against Article 19. However, it may be possible for corporations to gain an understanding that body art is just that, art and that people have the right to the Freedom of Expression. A common misconception is that people believe that their first impression of others is who they are and/or how they act. Similar to walking around with tattoos or piercings, people assume that they might be in a gang or have a bad reputation. Same with wearing a lot of makeup; except people imagine they sleep around and like to party. How a person is seen defines the impression people will have on them until ... The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most famous poems in history and was first published in 1845. This is a poem that many readers may describe as dark, twisted, and even scary can be oddly moving and eye catching. What were the meanings in his masterpiece, and what did Poe want his readers to understand? Poe s literary work The Raven shows literary elements of symbolism, theme, and imagery. First and foremost, a symbol is an object, person, or place that has meaning in it self. This also stands for something bigger, usually an idea or concept. The raven s darkness symbolizes death. Death becomes a constant reminder and intruder. The raven also symbolizes the narrator s memories of Lenore and grief. At the end of the poem the narrator himself even realizes the ravens meaning; when he states the raven will be with him forever because thoughts of Lenore will be forever with him. This can be why the ravens symbol is so dark. Additionally, December is another symbol is Poe s poem. December is in winter, and nothing lives in the winter. December can symbolize death. December is an end of something, and also the anticipation of something new, a change, to happen. (Hallqvist). Another symbol many readers see is midnight. Midnight is the darkest part of night.
