Asian Americans Health Disparities
2015 2016 Statistic on Asian American Cancer Health Disparities April is National Minority Health
Month. Despite major advances in medicine, ever evolving technology and more noteworthy access to
medicinal services over the past century, there are tenacious disparities in health that disproportionally
influence racial and ethnic minorities and other helpless populations. These disparities are obvious in
some key measures of wellbeing including life expectancy, the risk for disease, and access to health
care (Disparities in Health, 2015). Historically, the major factors contributing to shorter longevity and
high rates of disease are overcrowding, poor sanitation and low availability of treatment facilities.
However, the change of theses socioeconomic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Polar Bears Research Paper
Polar Bears Polar bears are endangered species in Arctic area s. They are carnivorous bears that are
white and furry. Eight of the nine polar bear populations decreased. Polar bears have black skin under
their fur and have fat that measures to 4.5 inches thick. They have long necks which is beneficial for
them because it helps them swim and when they catch their prey in the tiny holes. Polar bears are said
to be as smart as apes. They usually weigh from 350 to 700 kg. There is an estimated amount of
20,000 to 25,000 polar bears still living today.
The Great White polar bear is the largest of the world s bear species. Two thirds of polar bears are
predicted to be extinct by 2050. Polar bears are carnivores. They eat mainly ringed seals and fish. The

Which means they are connected to the arctic fox, musk ox, and caibou. The nutrient cycle in the
Arctic Sea contains of carbon and nitrogen. There is more than one way the nutrient cycle works. One
way is the carbon cycle can start off with phytoplankton and algae taking up carbon dioxide from sea
water and transforms it into the organic carbon of their tissue. Even the consumers prey in the
ecosystem that converts their prey s carbon into their own tissue oro into shrinking fecal pellets .
Decomposers return the nutrients back into the soil in the arctic, but the consumers capable of helping

atmosphere so when there is snowfall in the tundra, the snow of the nitrogen is rich and eventually
deposits back into the soil. Animals are only able to benefit from the nitrogen after the plants use it to
make more proteins and nucleic acid. It starts with algae and then moves onto shrimp, cod fish, seals,

Devonta Freeman Research Paper
Devonta Freeman
If you are a football fan, then you will understand when I say there are so many good NFL players
today. There is new talent added to the mix all the time. Devonta Freeman is one of those stars. He
was drafted in 2014 to the Atlanta Falcons and he had a great rookie year. As his time with the Falcons
goes on, his play making, and experience are improving and he looks like he s going to be a big factor
in the NFL. He did not get where he is now easy though, in fact it was tough for him. His
perseverance on the field is probably because of the perseverance he had to have growing up. To go
further into his background, he was the oldest of seven kids he had to become the man of the house at
the age as young as 12. If this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are for rushing and receiving. He had 1,016 rushing yards in his Junior year. He averaged 5.9
yards per rush. Then his rookie year after being drafted with the Falcons, he had 248 yards with only
65 attempts. In these he had some incredible breakout plays. Then in 2015 he had 1,056 yards off of
265 attempts. After that, in 2016, he had 1,079 yards in total. In all three years he has only fumbled the
ball 5 times out of 557 attempts. His average yards per attempt is 4.3 rushing. These stats are
impressive as is, but they just keep getting better. This brings us to his future. For now he is going to
stick with the falcons and continue as the star running back. He is not just doing this for himself, but
he is doing it for his family. He is going to stay with them and pay for his sisters college. He does not
want to get caught up in a contract dispute, because the only thing that matters to him is football and
taking care of his family. Devonta Freeman only has one more year on his contract though, and we
will see if he takes any offers. As far as his stats look, they look like they will keep improving, and be
even more impressive than they already

What Do You Think Influences Our Dreams Research Paper
What do you think influences your dreams? Do you believe that there is a scientific reason behind it?
A psychological meaning? Or maybe you believe that they re messages from a divine source?
Whatever it is, our subconscious mind behaves rather erratically when presented with a soft pillow,
warm milk, and a large number of sheep.
The human race has been long since fascinated with the concept that is our dreams. This separate state
of consciousness, an alternate reality if you will, has captured the interest of the nation throughout
history. Perhaps this is due to the fact that we spend a third of our life in this delusional state; roughly
about six years, at the most, of our life dreaming, according to George Bernard Shaw. Properly
knowing the fact that a great deal of our life is wasted in a sedated state, thus raises another question:
Why do we dream? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Windy City Racial Profiling Is An Act Of Discrimination Essay
WINDY CITY RACIAL PROFILING 1
Windy City Racial Profiling
Edin Hodzic
Loyola University Chicago
Introduction Racial profiling is an act of discrimination committed by law enforcement officials in
which they target certain individuals with the suspicion of a crime due to their race, religion, and
culture. In racial profiling, individuals are suspected of committing a crime solely because of their
appearance, which is associated to stereotypes of their people committing crimes. I believe this is a
huge problem in Chicago because many minorities in Chicago especially those in underdeveloped
neighborhoods are affected by this. Not only is racial profiling unlawful, it goes against what our
nations constitution is supposed to protect us from. The amendments are there to protect us. Racial
profiling violates our 4th amendment right, which protects us from unreasonable searches and
seizures. I?d say that being harassed and making the assumption that someone has committed a
wrongdoing based on their physical features and background would fall under being a very
unreasonable act. My goal with this paper is to shed some light on a view from the past on how racial
profiling became an issue and how it is still an issue around the country including Chicago. This paper
will also include what I believe to be solutions to this growing issue.
Historical Perspective How long ago did racial profiling come to be? Many believe that the concept of

The Effect Of Executive Peak Performance
Research shows successful leaders achieve peak performance, even in uncertain times, because they
are charismatic, conditioned to accomplish, and they get people to take action; yet there is a dark side
that can profoundly affect those closest to them.
Peak performance is a superior level of functioning. Business leaders who achieve peak performance
have integrated sustained accomplishment in their personalities. The individual becomes fully
absorbed and focused, whether dealing with a task or another person and yet continues to maintain a
strong sense of self. The interplay between action and behavior creates an unrestrained flow resulting
in peak performance (Privette, 1999).
The impact of executive peak performance produces a host of tangible results from creating greater
organizational efficiency to improving profitability, even in times of adversity. We will learn these
kinds of results have their roots in behavioral psychology. Additionally, research has proven that when
charisma is added to the mix, achievement skyrockets. However, there is a dark side to charisma that
can and does produce negative impacts on others. We will examine these impacts, as well as what
effective leaders can do to ensure they lead responsibly allowing those around them to maintain a
heathy sense of self. As to what drives leaders, we must first look at what motivates people in general.
For this, we turn to one of the most widely recognized experts on human motivation,

Lupus Erythematosus
Section One: Modes of Inheritance
There are five different types of lupus: systemic lupus erythematosus, discoid lupus erythematosus,
subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus, drug induced lupus, neonatal lupus. Systemic lupus
erythematosus, or SLE, is the most common form of lupus. The exact cause of SLE is unknown;
however, recent research has pointed to genetics as its main factor that is mostly triggered by
environmental factors. While the exact gene that causes lupus is unknown, research has suggested that
multiple genes factor into the development of SLE (What is Lupus? 2009). Two genes have been
linked to SLE from human leukocyte antigens (HLA), DRB1*03 and DRB1*02, predominately in
Caucasian and black populations. These HLA alleles have shown a strong connection ... Show more

When the body is exposed to these factors the B lymphocyte stimulator (BLyS) relaxes B cells which
in turn produces autoantibodies which worsens the condition of SLE in someone (Cranco, D Cruz,
Khamashta, 2009). Section Two: Symptoms
Lupus can either be mild, or it can be lethal. Unfortunately, SLE is not contained to one part of the
body, but rather can affect any part of the body (Lockshin, 2007). In order to help with the diagnosis
of lupus, the American College of Rheumatology developed the Eleven Criteria of Lupus which
contains the typical symptoms of SLE and is used by doctors to diagnose patients. Diagnosis, of
course, is not limited to the eleven criteria. The first symptom is called the malar rash, also known as
the butterfly rash, is found on the face spread across the patient s cheekbones. Second, are discoid
patches, third is photosensitivity a reaction to sunlight that results in skin rashes. Fourth is mouth or
nose ulcers, where the mouth ulcers of someone who has lupus, is pain free and appear at the roof of
the mouth instead of on the sides. The fifth symptom is nonerosive

Having now acquired the ball playing equipment, the Hero Twin brothers, Hunahpu and Xbalanque,

Afraid her grandsons, the Hero Twins, would suffer the dame fate as her sons did, their grandmother

When their father and uncle had descended into Xibalba, they were met with a number of challenges

The Booming Business of For Profit Colleges Higher education is a very profitable field, and because

she talked to an enrollment counselor at Argosy, he said You know, instead of applying for the master

student loans, Sherry finds out that her degree is not even accredited by the American Psychological
Association. She feels that she is at a dead end, and filed a lawsuit claiming that she was defrauded.
The documentary College Inc., was effective in its purpose of showing the importance of for profit
schools. A large number of students who would never have been accepted into a traditional college,
have now been given the opportunity to obtain a degree. Investors who have put money into these
failing colleges have profited a great deal. Michael Clifford turned traditional colleges that were in a
downward spiral, and close to shutting down into successful for profit schools. Even though the
documentary shows a few students who are unhappy with their experiences, it seems that more people
have benefited from these colleges than those who have not.

Waves Of Debates Within Feminism
Gender 208
Assignment 1: Waves of Debates within Feminism
Feminism, in simple terms, refers to a collective desire to end the oppression of women. Because
oppression takes various forms and affects those who are victim to it in a number of different, yet
often connected ways; feminism should accordingly be regarded as a multifaceted set of movements
working towards multiple aims and ends. Which is to say that feminism is less a single movement
concerned with the oppression of women, and more a gathering of movements concerned with a
number of oppressive structures, working towards the eradication of domination period. Analysing the
works of Mimi Mariuncci (2010), Audre Lorde (1984), and Rosemarie Garland Thomson (2002) this
paper will attempt to answer the question of why intersectionality is imperative to feminist discourse
and Praxis, exploring the different areas in which the oppression of women interests with the
oppression, marginalisation, and suppression of other minority groups, i.e. queer people, people of
colour, people with disabilities, old people, poor people, transgendered, and gender non conforming
people etc.
In the pursuit of inclusivity and intersectionality feminist discourse has been tasked with
acknowledging and addressing all forms of oppression as a logic of domination. A theory coined by
ecofeminist philosopher Karen Warren which refers to a way of understanding and communicating

Phillis Wheatley, Olaudah Equiano, And Frederick Douglass...
Proposition(s) centered around body of works authored by African Americans often fluctuate with the
social stratification of its people. The writing is not stagnant bound to warranted eons, but fluid with
time, as generally as any other form of literature. In other words, African American writing tends to
reflect that of the current society they are subjected to, among a number of other conditions. In the
1800 s, prior to the dawning of the Civil War, Black publication, in its diminutive amount, consisted
roughly of memoirs, of which recounted the perils of slavery and the bliss circumvention, in turn,
creating the earliest form of Black literature, slave narratives. In their own time and thereafter, said
narratives have been the object of much scrutiny of both damning and plauditory natures. The authors
of the works serve as no exception to such, considering each have received perlustration from their
kinsmen and their counterparts, alike. Phillis Wheatley, Olaudah Equiano, and Frederick Douglass are
examples of said Black authors, being that all have been accused of spiritually fleeing their race and
relinquishing their Black identity. In regards to the act of one fleeing their own race, one must be
consciously aware of what race is. Race is defined as a concept used in the categorization of humans
into groups, based on combinations of shared physical traits, ancestry, genetics, and social or cultural
traits. In reality, it plays a decisive role in the perpetuation or

Before they are able to create these laws and regulations between countries there is a huge issue with
classification. The problem with the issues that result from cyber warfare, and hacking within the
cyber realm is that there is confusion within the public. In regards to what cyber warfare means, and
what that means for society. To understand cyber warfare it is important to understand the distinction
between a cyber attack and cyber warfare. A cyber attack is within the cyber domain with an objective
of data theft, pranks, etc. While cyber warfare is still within the cyber domain, (they coexist in the
same realm) but a cyber war is a state of armed conflict politically motivated with violent means with
violence, just like with regular conflict, with the regular war itself. However, this area of cyber
warfare is not something we can measure or separate like borders of a state because it is not very
tangible and it is a fairly new topic, so we don t know the jurisdictions of it. There are so many
questions regarding how to make sense of cyber warfare and an even more confusing legal conceptual
of a cyber war to fit into the established law of war.
Since the growing number of cyberattacks, the United States created a separate command called the
Cyber Command on June 23, 2009. The secretary of defense directed the commander of the US
Strategic Command to establish a sub unified command, US Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM).

Imagery In Pink Dog By Rio Di Janiero
Pink is not only a clothes color for well dressed individuals with exceptional taste in clothes or for
brave, courageous, stable, and smart men, it is also a color associated with sexuality and love; here,
however, it is associated with dogs and Rio di Janiero. In the poem Pink Dog by Elizabeth Bishop, the
speaker reveals her anxiousness of the flux of human life by presenting the metaphor of the pink dog.
The images of the Carnival, as a token of lavishness, symbolize ambiguity. The Carnival is a place of
no order and reversed rules. Extravagant celebration is paralleled with the abandonment of moral
principles and social hierarchy. The word carnival is associated with forsaking flesh and with the more

Uneven Playing Field
I have decided to write a response paper to Michael Sokolove s The Uneven Playing Field. The ideas
that Sokolove has presented in this article was very interesting and I agree with him. I will be relating
Sokolove s article with overspecialization and how is it harmful to younger athletes, injury prevention
programs and the way that they help prevent injuries, the exception to the injury prevention programs,
and mentality of athletes when they do get injured or hurt.
As mentioned by Sokolove on page two, ... we increasingly ask more of young athletes, especially if
they show talent: play longer, play harder, play faster, play for higher stakes. And we ask this of boys
and girls equally unmindful of physical differences. The pressure to concentrate on a best sport before
even entering middle school and to play it year round is bad for all kids. I agree with Sokolove s quote
because overspecialization can harm the social, emotional, and physical development of young
athletes. Specifically, in terms of the physical development of an athlete for this reading response

Reading Culture 5th Edition By Diana George And John Trimbur
The book Reading Culture 8th Edition by Diana George and John Trimbur is a wonderful assemblage
of different contexts for critical reading and thinking. As one skims through the first chapter of this
book, almost immediately does it intrigue the reader to continue to progress through the argumentative
essays, visual illustrations, and notable references one is so familiar with. The authors expressed their
several definitions on the word culture and how it was used differently as time passed by. The authors
also expressed their thoughts on digital communication and presented arguments from various writers
who depict the pros and cons of this new cyber age of connectivity and interactivity. Forty eight pages
of academically acclaimed arguments, illustrations, and essay examples help the reader understand
what culture is and their composition course better.
Most Americans are not aware of the many definitions the word culture has had over its course of
existence in the English language. Some associate their knowledge of culture with one of Beethoven s
classic symphonies or with a beautiful painting by Picasso. These same individuals most often classify
their ideal of culture in two classes high and low culture. As the authors state, a cultured person is

Culture Is The Sum Total Of Ways Of Living Built Up By A...
What is culture? Culture has a very broad definition. But in terms of anthropology, culture is the sum
total of ways of living built up by a group of human beings and transmitted from one generation to
another (www.dictionary.com). Culture is learned, it is passed on from many generations. What is
gender? Gender is either the male or female division of a species, especially as differentiated by social
and cultural roles and behavior. However, gender plays a big role in culture all around the world. In
this analysis essay I will be analyzing how males and females are raised with differences in third
world countries compared to the western culture of the United States. What are the roles that males
and females have? In countries such as India, Pakistan, China, there is still a lot of controversy about
how a male and female should be treated. It has a lot to do with culture and tradition. Some of these
cultural traits have been passed down from generations and are still around which some people follow.
Some may consider it double standards and others may think that it is the norm. So how is gender
related to culture? In society it is expected that the women and men behave a certain way. The gender
disparities are shaped and formed by culture. It is better explained by Jyotirmaya Tripathy who wrote
the article How Gendered is Gendered Development? Culture, Masculinity, and Gender Differences ,
she explains that though there has been some modernity in third

Beethoven Seventh Symphony Analysis
Pratt Carrol stated that Music is the language of emotion, and emotions tend to be the same the world
over, in spite of differences in social customs and language. In other words, music is a fabulous
expression of the human being no matter the culture or norms because it manages to immediately
transmit different feelings and emotions that other forms of art may not transmit.
For my Introduction to music class I decided, to write about the Seventh Symphony in A major (Op.
92) by Ludwig van Beethoven. The reason why I choose this symphony is because it s an emotional
piece of music, and it definitely catch my attention since the moment I heard it. I feel this symphony
reach emotional situations that are above human explosions. Emotional areas that invade us through a
contradictory fact between feelings. The Seventh Symphony in A major by Beethoven appears in
1813. The orchestra contains two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets in A, two bassoons, two horns in A
(E and D in the inner movements), two trumpets in D, timpani, and strings. Beethoven insisted on
directing it at its premiere, with tragicomic results. The critics recognized a new genius of Beethoven;
even today there are experts who consider it as the best of their symphonies. Richard Wagner, another
fervent Beethovenian, describe this symphony as all tumult, all yearning and storming of heart into the
blissful insolence of joy, which snatches us away with bacchanalian might. For its relentless dance

Dunkirk Movie Essay
Dunkirk is the 10th film created by Christopher Nolan. From all film that was made by Christopher
Nolan, this film Dunkirk was the shortest movie that only last long for a hundred and seven minutes.
If we compared to the other film created by him it can reach two and a half hour, Dunkirk was the
shortest one.
This movie has a different theme among other action war movies. f war films, especially war films
focusing on world war two, have the theme of a feud between one faction and another, Dunkirk s film
focuses more on how to survive under siege and how to escape from life threatening terror only.

Good and Evil in Dante’s Divine Comedy and Chaucer’s The...
Good and evil are concocted differently in every imagination. To some, evil is the most appalling sins,
including such heinous acts such as murder, rape, distortion, or betrayal. To others, evil might be
something so simple as indecisiveness, extravagance, or vain glory. Goodness is ambiguous to
mankind as well because one man might define goodness as the ordinary man living a free life, yet
another might conclude that true goodness is obtainable only through a perfect, honorable lifestyle,
completely abstaining from worldly endeavors. One s attitude at good and evil will predetermine their

Dante was a man with a vision. He lived in a world that was Torn by discord (Limentani,117). Born in
1265, Dante s Florence was the center of a war ravaged Italy. He became involved in politics at a
young age and before too long became a White Guelph, one who supported the Papacy in the fight
against invading Germanic kings. 1301 was a tragic year because it marked the beginning of the Black
Guelph regime and saw Dante exiled from his home town forever. These experiences made Dante
quickly realize that this world is corrupt to the core. Greed for material things is the main fault, greed
which is allowed to dictate the actions of men. Only a cessation of strife, the establishment of
universal peace can ensure the happiness of mankind and allow men to pursue the ultimate aim for
which God has destined them on earth, that of exercising constantly and to the full their distinctive
quality, the Virtus Intellective (virtuous intellect) (Limentani,117). He believed that all life on this
earth has a purpose and meaning to it. This can be seen in the Inferno because during the long trek
through Hell Dante does almost nothing but work to arrive a Paradise, the heavenly end to all those
lacking wickedness. He traveled far trying to make his life purposeful by working his way up to
Heaven. Chaucer stood in contrast to Dante s almost dogmatic piety and looked to other things as

Six Hat Method Of Thinking Is Different From Argument
1. Explain how the Six Hat method of thinking is different from Argument . Also, explain how it helps
organizations to 1) explore a subject, 2) make decisions, and 3) reduce the time taken for the project

There is a place for argument, and argument is a useful tool of thinking. But argument is inadequate as
the main tool of thinking. Argument lacks constructive energies, design energies, and creative
energies. Pointing out faults may lead to some improvement but does not construct something new.
Synthesizing both points of view does not produce a stream of new alternatives.
Traditional argument is totally useless for such a design process. Instead, we need Parallel Thinking,

The management personnel in an organization can adorn different hats as mentioned above at the

A Contest Of Smiles, The Smile, And Female Actors
To Smile Or Not To Smile In a contest of smiles, who would win women or men? That answer just so
happens to be women. But why women? According to Amy Cunningham in, Why Women Smile,
women smiles are automatic (though it can be true for either sex) as they are controlled by society s
expectations. Cunningham has even experienced this herself, from her friends and even her husband.
One of her friends told her that they associate her with her smile, calling it her essence and that she
should smile more (Cunningham 369). Her husband calls her smiling face unthreatening and because
of that demeanor, people like her in a fuzzy way, despite that not being her goal (369). Not only with
firsthand experience, Cunningham also pertains details from history, scientific evidence, and culture
into her article as well. From baby reflexes to Mona Lisa s mysterious smile and female actors, she
uses her information in a way that people can accumulate some sort of connection of what she s
writing into their lives. Connecting one personal story or experience to another can make people
empathize, especially if the general target audience is towards to women as per this article. Using this,
Cunningham uses her personal connective approach and informative evidence to prove that smiles of
the womanly kind are being used too much and used wrongly. In this case, I agree with Cunningham s
point in her explanation about the reason why women really smile by how she utilizes her approach in

Characteristics Of Bespoke Documents
Outcome 3
3.1 Explain the characteristics of bespoke documents.
Bespoke business documents are documents individually or customised to meet a specific requirement
or purpose within a specific business. They are personalised to suit each business and can include
forms, publicity materials, invoices, business cards, spread sheets, databases, letterheads,
presentations, catalogues, reports, proposals etc. These are important because it places a professional
image on your company, which will attract new potential customers or will keep your current
customers interested. It is important to take into consideration when creating bespoke documents that
the purpose is to give a good impression to other businesses or customers, therefore, documents need
to be professional and well thought out. An untidy, poorly designed document can severely affect an
organisation s reputation with its stakeholders. Documents need to be consistent throughout, this
means the organisation s logo needs to be the same on all documents produced, as well as the general
theme, for example, you must use the same font and style like: bold/italic/underlined etc. Also, it is
preferably that in business documents should use no more than two different fonts, as it may seem
unprofessionally with more than two fonts. Fonts need to be readable, as well as in the correct size;
headings need to be larger than the main body of the text in order to differentiate, and there should
also be plenty of white space in

Dubliners Research Paper
Dubliners by James Joyce is a collection of stories centered around Joyce s intentions to write the
moral history of Dublin s paralysis. Although paralysis seems to be the main theme in Dubliners,
another motif comes across in the pages of the stories. As if all of the mental, physical, and emotional
problems weren t enough, many of the characters in Dubliners are alcoholics. Joyce utilizes the
character of the drunk in many of the stories in Dubliners; hardly a story skips a mention of a drink.
The negative effects of alcohol occur again and again through the collection of stories. For the most
part, men are brought down by their addiction to alcohol and their inability to control themselves
when they are drunk. In Dubliners, the characters seek their own desires, face obstacles that frustrate
them, and ultimately give in to their need to consume alcohol. With Dubliners, James Joyce brings
attention to the different issues that consuming alcohol caused in early 20th century Ireland using
three particular stories; Counterparts , Grace and Ivy Day in the Committee Room . James Joyce was
born in the late 1800s in Dublin, Ireland. Joyce came from a big family; he was the eldest of ten
children. It is known that Joyce was not raised in a stable household. His father, John, was a known
alcoholic and his family did not have much money due to his father s constant spending. Despite the
family s continuous financial instability, however, Joyce s father was aware of his son

Cinematic Techniques in Strictly Ballroom Essay
Extended Film Response
How the film techniques used by Baz Luhrman to influence the portrayal and development of
characters in the film Strictly Ballroom?
In the film Strictly Ballroom, the director Baz Luhrman uses many different film techniques to
influence the portrayal and development of characters. Costume and makeup is used as a vital
technique to show the audience the characters personalities and also the development of some
characters. Camera angles and lighting is another technique that is used to exaggerate the characters
personalities and the scenes they are in. Luhrman also uses character behaviors as an effective
technique in portraying each characters personality.

Even though Fran became more confident, her costume and makeup still suited her personality. For
example at the Pan Pacific Grand Prix, all of the other female dancers wore bright coloured, revealing
outfits, Fran wore a traditional red Spanish dress. At the end of the film Fran s physical appearance
changed dramatically and so did her confidence. These characters are good examples of how Luhrman
uses costume and makeup to effectively influence the portrayal and development of characters in the
film.
In Strictly Ballroom, Luhrman uses many different camera angles and lighting techniques to
exaggerate scenes, settings and even characters personalities. An example of this is at the start of the
film, when Scott Hastings is dancing by himself in a room, there is a bright, white spotlight on him as
he dances, drawing the audience to watch him. This happens whenever Scott dances and it shows the
audience that Scott has a sense of purity and that he is the protagonist of the film. Luhrman uses low
angle shots when Scott and Fran are dancing at the end of the film, this is a good technique used so the
audience can see them dancing and also gives the audience the impression that they are dominate and
confident. Another character who is a good example of camera angles and film techniques being used
on them to portray their personality is Barry Fife. Barry is a mean character and Luhrman uses dark,
reddish lighting to make him seem evil.

The Indian Of The New Zealand Wars
The land wars also known as the New Zealand wars was a series of armed conflicts which took place
in New Zealand from 1845 to 1872. This occurred between the British/colonial government and the
indigenous Maori. During Captain Cook s earlier visit, he recommended New Zealand as an ideal area
for Europeans to settle, in particular, the Bay of Islands. The British government at the time payed no
attention to Captain Cooks recommendations. In 1810 the American and European whalers as well as
traders began visiting the Bay of Islands which created a settlement called Kororareka. Russell, which
was the first capital of the country, quickly became the fifth largest settlement in New Zealand filled
with brothels and grog shops. The Ngapuhi tribe which was from the North region of Auckland, were
able to trade with the Local Europeans. Furthermore, because of this the Maori came into contact with
much needed and devastating inter tribal war weapons such as the Musket. Due to this trade amongst
the Maori and Europeans, the Ngapuhi tribe were the first tribe to obtain such weapons. In the 1840s
there was a written agreement between the British crown the monarch, and more than 500 Maori
chiefs. The treaty is made up of 3 articles and was written in 2 versions Maori and English. In the first
article written in English, it says that Maori leaders gave the Queen all rights and powers of

The Treatment Of Heart Transplant Essay
Background
Heart transplant have grown to be a therapeutic strategies for patients with heart failure, and

ensure safety and survival of pediatric patients, however in the case of rejection, death rate have
enormously been reviewed. This process whereby recipient s immune system attacks the transplanted

Although diagnosis have been procured, endomyocardial biopsy seems to be a standard method to

Patents And Its Impact On The World
For hundreds of years inventors have been able to obtain monopolies through patents for their
innovations. A patent is a set of exclusive rights granted by the government to an inventor for their
privately owned innovation with an expiration of 20 years. This gives the patentee the right to legally
withhold other human resources from the production, consumption, distribution and vending of their
invention. In order to receive a patent, its application must include claims which define the invention
as innovative, original and useful or otherwise applicable to industry. Patents were initiated for many
reasons including providing property rights for accomplishments of people along with preventing
market failure to occur through free riding. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While inventors of different innovative technologies may experiment on each other s inventions, those
with ownership of patents are the legal vendors to rights to go ahead in the step process of placing
their product on the market. On behalf of the world s economy and technological stance the WTO
developed an agreement for Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS). Through this
agreement the WTO attempted to create balance between long term and short term objectives for
future innovations, which helps progress technology through dissemination. Basically rights over
production and sale of new technology are protected while new inventions are allowed to be studied.
According to article seven of the TRIPS Agreement stating its objectives;
The protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights should contribute to the promotion of
technological innovation and to the transfer and dissemination of technology, to the mutual advantage
of producers and users for the technological knowledge and in a manner conducive to social and
economic welfare, and to a balance of right and obligations.
This led to a number of benefits for pharmaceutical patents. With the agreement being established, the
incentive to create new drugs increased due to the contracted availability of patented information for
research along with the possible future benefits from the creativity of the inventors. A patent

Nazi Extermination Camps Essay
Nazi Extermination Camps
Anti Semitism reached to extreme levels beginning in 1939, when Polish Jews were regularly rounded
up and shot by members of the SS. Though some of these SS men saw the arbitrary killing of Jews as
a sport, many had to be lubricated with large quantities of alcohol before committing these atrocious
acts. Mental trauma was not uncommon amongst those men who were ordered to murder Jews. The
establishment of extermination camps therefore became the Final Solution to the Jewish Question , as
well as a way to alleviate the mental trauma that grappled the minds of Nazi soldiers. The following

After the gas vans of Chelmno were phased out, SS officials began devising new methods of
extermination that would kill more Jews at an accelerated rate. Fischer notes that the Nazis decided
that execution by poison gas in remote annihilation camps was the most efficient and humane method
of murdering the Jews. Aktion Reinhard (named after Reinhard Heydrich who was assassinated in
Czechoslovakia) was the plan aimed to exterminate Polish Jews living within General Government to
the East. Because the Jewish population here was high (2.3 million), three major death camps
equipped with large gas chambers were established. Jews who were considered unfit for work
(including many women and children) were extracted from labor camps to be exterminated. Belzec,
located on the southwest border of former Poland, was the first extermination center initially built to
kill off Jews from the Galicia and Lublin regions in order to make room for German Jews in the labor
camps. Noakes interestingly notes that Belzec was an experimental solution to a regional problem
rather than the start of a Europe wide extermination programme. In other words, Belzec was designed
initially to kill the Jews in the East, while the decision to murder the entirety of Europe s Jewish
population had not yet been realized. According to Noakes,

What Role Did Mnemosyne Play In Greek Mythology
The people of Greece did not know how to explain emotions or events that happened. Greek
Mythology helped explain these things. A more specific myth, is about the person who controls your

Mythology (Hamilton 37).
Mnemosyne s family is very unique. Her parents are Ouranos and Gaea. Ouranos represents the
heavens where as Gae is the representative of the Earth. Mnemosyne had had nine daughters with
Zeus, the god of gods. Her daughters are known as The Muses ( Mnemosyne ). They are in many
myths and played major roles in them. Mnemosyne has 11 other siblings. Her siblings are Oceanus,

Before the souls of the dead died, they were told to drink from a river called the Mnemosyne river (

reporter Norman Miller and earned him a Pulitzer Prize, the highest achievement in American
journalism. The story of perpetrator Anthony De Angelis, known by his associates as Tino , is unique
because of the extreme disassociation from reality by all parties involved, which consequently created
the extraordinary opportunity necessary for a fraudster to evade being caught. The great magnitude of

Obviously, Tino s ego was bloated from the beginning and would be a large factor in the swindle he
would perpetrate two decades later. Spurred by increased responsibilities from marriage and the birth
of his son, Tino turned his enterprising mind into overdrive, founding M D Hog Cutters with borrowed
money. Unlike the candy store, Tino s new venture proved wildly successful. Incredibly, Tino had
turned a $2000 investment into $100,000 in the very first year. Tino was only twenty three years old,
and his ego was even larger. He claimed he was such a big shot that he was able to avoid the draft as
he was such an important pork supplier to the army and that he prospered greatly during the war
Anthony claimed that increased wealth didn t change his personal life, but allowed him to further his
charitable efforts. For example, Tino started giving away seeing eye dogs and bicycles (Miller 15). For
Tino, his success during the war was not because of his patriotic efforts in supplying the army with
pork. According to sources close to De Angelis at that time, Anthony s hog cutting company prospered
because it was built entirely on black market meat sales (Miller 16). Yet, Tino recounts his early
wealth as patriotic and charity driven. It is internal narratives such as these that reinforce the
rationalization for fraud. Typically, and as is seen many times from De Angelis story, a fraudster s ego

This Madrasa is especially significant, because it is one of the earliest pieces of Islamic architecture to

decorated floral mosaic tiles which was uncommon during the Ilkhanid period but later mastered by
the Timurids. Earlier mosaic designs were strictly geometric, but this new floral pattern gained
popularity as time passed. While walking through the museum I was fascinated by several secular and
religious pieces of art from the Islamic region. The reason that I chose to analyze this piece over the
other exhibits was a result of my interest in mosque architecture, and because this was as close as I
was able to get to an ancient piece of Islamic architecture. I have seen many qibla walls, many qurans,
and many mihrabs, but this specific one was unlike the modern prayer niches in the mosques that I

the Ilkhanids not been so heavily influenced by Mongol traditions their architecture would have had a
completely different look and feel. My first impression of the Madrasa Imami mihrab was the colors.

Alice In Wonderland Power
This essay will consider Lewis Carroll s presentation of Alice in Alice s Adventures in Wonderland,
specifically within the Pig and Pepper chapter. Alice wishes to master the unfamiliar world of
Wonderland, in much the same way as Victorian Britain gained global power through colonization. In
this essay, I will argue that Carroll uses Alice s role as Victorian representative to criticise this
dominant global position Britain held during its imperial century . Alice initially perceives
Wonderland as a world that she can overpower and benefit from, much as imperialist Britain benefited
from its territories resources. She does not succeed, however, and by the end of both the chapter and

The importance of learning from other cultures, rather than maintaining imperialistic superiority by
holding Victorian England above the rest, is communicated. This is indicated through Alice s
transition to a more adaptable state, which is again represented through her interactions with the
infant. When caring for the baby, Alice tells it not to grunt, as that s not at all a proper way of
expressing yourself. In dictating to the baby the proper etiquette regarding expression, Alice is initially
projecting her own Victorian society onto it. She views her society as superior, and so requires that the
infant act in the same way as one from her own world. However, the description of Alice holding the
baby makes it clear that she is beginning to understand that there is no fixed, constantly correct way of
doing things. Carroll states that she made out the proper way of nursing it (which was to twist it up
into a sort of knot, and then keep tight hold of its right ear and left foot, so as to prevent its undoing
itself) The repetition of the word proper is telling here: the proper way of treating this Wonderland
child is in fact very different from what the proper way would be in Alice s world. Consequently, Alice
learns she cannot simply project her own culture onto Wonderland, and must instead operate with

The Role Of Diplomatic Relations Between Germany And Turkey
However, many historians have debated not only Germany s role in the severity of Armenian
persecution and their motives in involving themselves in the Armenian situation and the, but also their
rationale behind forming a relationship with the Ottoman Empire that began in the 1890s. In March of
2007, Dr. Margaret Lavinia Anderson, a Professor Emerita of History at the University of California,
Berkeley, published an article in The Journal of Modern History, entitled Down in Turkey, far away :
Human Rights, the Armenian Massacres, and Orientalism in Wilhelmine Germany. In this article,
Anderson examines the development of diplomatic relations between Germany and Turkey and, more
specifically, why Germany became interested in the Near East, their motives, and, later, their alliance.
She argues that Germany was mainly focused on developing a strong, influential relationship with the
Ottoman Empire during the Wilhelmine era. An alliance with the Turks would be a joint cooperative
effort to strengthen and modernize the failing Ottoman military and ensure safe passage into
neighboring British colonies for the Germans, still trying to extend their influence beyond the
Ottoman Empire eastward. The Germans sought to accomplish this and create a strong coalition by
adopting a compliant attitude towards Armenian persecution and reiterating the Turkish rhetoric and
belief that the Armenians were getting what they deserved.
Anderson asserts that, in the age of Imperialism and

Leo Clancy Essay
Thomas Leo Clancy Jr. had a very normal beginning. He grew up in Maryland, and went to Loyola
High school. After graduating, he attended Loyola University and began majoring in physics. Clancy
was also a member of the Reserve Officer Training Corps, or ROTC. Though he was very willing to
serve, he was turned down after trying to enlist due to his myopia. He then switched his major to
English and graduated in 1969 (Carlson, Michael). Clancy had dreamed of becoming a tank
commander since he was little. When the Army turned him down, his dreams were ruined, and he had
to turn to something else. He then thought of writing, but was sidetracked when he married Mrs.
Wanda Thomas (Newsmakers, ¶3). They then had children, whom they named Michelle, Christine,
Tom, and Kathleen (Newsmakers). While married to Mrs. Thomas, Clancy worked at different
insurance firms and wrote in his free time. After working at 4 different insurance firms (Newsmakers),
Clancy finally had his big break. In 1984 his book, The Hunt for Red October made it s debut
(Bosman, Julie). The book was insanely popular, as was it s follow up, Red Storm Rising
(Newsmakers). This series, the Jack Ryan series, is by far Clancy s most well known series. It

They allowed him to research for his novel by firing weapons, piloting tanks, and flying helicopters
and jets (Newsmakers). He used this research to write multiple nonfiction series (Encyclopedia
Britannica). His movies were also made into novels, with big name actors like Alec Baldwin and
Harrison Ford. This caused his popularity to increase even more (Bosman, Julie). His wife also bought
him an M1A1 Abrams Tank, and he signed up for an NRA lifetime membership (Famous Authors). He
and Mrs. Thomas split in 1998, and he then remarried the next year with Alexandra Llewellyn, with
whom he had his final daughter, Alexis

Highly Acrobatic Gatsby Erotica
The public view on fanfiction tends to focus more on the unorthodox: erotic Gatsby fic, the
hypothetical romantic relationship of Kirk and Spock, or the media hurricane that was E.L. James s
Fifty Shades of Grey. Fanfiction is treated as a recent phenomenon despite being around since the
existence of the written language; many classic, derivative works could be considered fanfiction of
open source content. While big media sources such as CNN, Yahoo, or Fox discuss it in terms of
copyright, deviance, and money, independent news sources, blogs, and discussion panels prefer a
more holistic view, focusing on fanfiction as a reaction to not only existing content, but to societal
problems. With fanfic gaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From a young age, girls are put under pressure to be sexually appealing for those around her. But
women, being people who still have biological needs and desires to be fulfilled, have rarely been
offered a direct but safe pathway into sexual self discovery other than through experience, which
carries the risks of sexual assault, unwanted pregnancy, and STI acquisition. Men have an entire
industry dedicated to fulfilling their sexual desires the porn industry s treatment of women is nothing
to bat an eye at. Off screen, girls grow up being treated as sexual objects from a young age,
surrounded by sexy women in advertising, movies, and TV. Having to deal with others schoolgirl
fantasies and the idea of being jailbait make it hard for a woman at the apex of puberty to safely
explore her developing sexuality. Girls also grow up with a ridiculous double standard telling them to
avoid being sexy while avoiding prudishness: to dress conservatively if they don t want to get
assaulted, but to show some skin because nobody likes a bore. Speaking from experience, it gets tiring
being told to be two things at once in order to please somebody else, and media has a powerful effect
on how women see themselves, as stated by Katie Barnes in her piece, On The Importance Of Media
Representation

Or maybe you believe that they re messages from a divine source? Whatever it is, our subconscious mind behaves rather erratically when presented with a soft pillow, warm milk, and a large number of sheep. The human race has been long since fascinated with the concept that is our dreams. This separate state of consciousness, an alternate reality if you will, has captured the interest of the nation throughout history. Perhaps this is due to the fact that we spend a third of our life in this delusional state; roughly about six years, at the most, of our life dreaming, according to George Bernard Shaw. Windy City Racial Profiling Is An Act Of Discrimination Essay WINDY CITY RACIAL PROFILING 1 Windy City Racial Profiling Edin Hodzic Loyola University Chicago Introduction Racial profiling is an act of discrimination committed by law enforcement officials in which they target certain individuals with the suspicion of a crime due to their race, religion, and culture. In racial profiling, individuals are suspected of committing a crime solely because of their appearance, which is associated to stereotypes of their people committing crimes. I believe this is a huge problem in Chicago because many minorities in Chicago especially those in underdeveloped neighborhoods are affected by this. Not only is racial profiling unlawful, it goes against what our nations constitution is supposed to protect us from. The amendments are there to protect us. Racial profiling violates our 4th amendment right, which protects us from unreasonable searches and seizures. I?d say that being harassed and making the assumption that someone has committed a wrongdoing based on their physical features and background would fall under being a very unreasonable act. My goal with this paper is to shed some light on a view from the past on how racial profiling became an issue and how it is still an issue around the country including Chicago. This paper will also include what I believe to be solutions to this growing issue. Historical Perspective How long ago did racial profiling come to be? The Effect Of Executive Peak Performance Research shows successful leaders achieve peak performance, even in uncertain times, because they are charismatic, conditioned to accomplish, and they get people to take action; yet there is a dark side that can profoundly affect those closest to them. Peak performance is a superior level of functioning. Business leaders who achieve peak performance have integrated sustained accomplishment in their personalities. The individual becomes fully absorbed and focused, whether dealing with a task or another person and yet continues to maintain a strong sense of self. The interplay between action and behavior creates an unrestrained flow resulting in peak performance (Privette, 1999). The impact of executive peak performance produces a host of tangible results from creating greater organizational efficiency to improving profitability, even in times of adversity. We will learn these kinds of results have their roots in behavioral psychology. Additionally, research has proven that when charisma is added to the mix, achievement skyrockets. However, there is a dark side to charisma that can and does produce negative impacts on others. We will examine these impacts, as well as what effective leaders can do to ensure they lead responsibly allowing those around them to maintain a heathy sense of self. As to what drives leaders, we must first look at what motivates people in general. For this, we turn to one of the most widely recognized experts on human motivation, ... Because oppression takes various forms and affects those who are victim to it in a number of different, yet often connected ways; feminism should accordingly be regarded as a multifaceted set of movements working towards multiple aims and ends. Which is to say that feminism is less a single movement concerned with the oppression of women, and more a gathering of movements concerned with a number of oppressive structures, working towards the eradication of domination period. Culture is learned, it is passed on from many generations. What is gender? Gender is either the male or female division of a species, especially as differentiated by social and cultural roles and behavior. However, gender plays a big role in culture all around the world. Documents need to be consistent throughout, this means the organisation s logo needs to be the same on all documents produced, as well as the general theme, for example, you must use the same font and style like: bold/italic/underlined etc. Also, it is preferably that in business documents should use no more than two different fonts, as it may seem unprofessionally with more than two fonts. • 25. Dubliners Research Paper Dubliners by James Joyce is a collection of stories centered around Joyce s intentions to write the moral history of Dublin s paralysis. Although paralysis seems to be the main theme in Dubliners, another motif comes across in the pages of the stories. As if all of the mental, physical, and emotional problems weren t enough, many of the characters in Dubliners are alcoholics. Joyce utilizes the character of the drunk in many of the stories in Dubliners; hardly a story skips a mention of a drink. The negative effects of alcohol occur again and again through the collection of stories. For the most part, men are brought down by their addiction to alcohol and their inability to control themselves when they are drunk. In Dubliners, the characters seek their own desires, face obstacles that frustrate them, and ultimately give in to their need to consume alcohol. With Dubliners, James Joyce brings attention to the different issues that consuming alcohol caused in early 20th century Ireland using three particular stories; Counterparts , Grace and Ivy Day in the Committee Room . These characters are good examples of how Luhrman uses costume and makeup to effectively influence the portrayal and development of characters in the film. In Strictly Ballroom, Luhrman uses many different camera angles and lighting techniques to exaggerate scenes, settings and even characters personalities. This happens whenever Scott dances and it shows the audience that Scott has a sense of purity and that he is the protagonist of the film. Luhrman uses low angle shots when Scott and Fran are dancing at the end of the film, this is a good technique used so the audience can see them dancing and also gives the audience the impression that they are dominate and confident. Aktion Reinhard (named after Reinhard Heydrich who was assassinated in Czechoslovakia) was the plan aimed to exterminate Polish Jews living within General Government to the East. Because the Jewish population here was high (2.3 million), three major death camps equipped with large gas chambers were established. Jews who were considered unfit for work (including many women and children) were extracted from labor camps to be exterminated. Belzec, located on the southwest border of former Poland, was the first extermination center initially built to kill off Jews from the Galicia and Lublin regions in order to make room for German Jews in the labor camps. This is indicated through Alice s transition to a more adaptable state, which is again represented through her interactions with the infant. When caring for the baby, Alice tells it not to grunt, as that s not at all a proper way of expressing yourself. In dictating to the baby the proper etiquette regarding expression, Alice is initially projecting her own Victorian society onto it. She views her society as superior, and so requires that the infant act in the same way as one from her own world. However, the description of Alice holding the baby makes it clear that she is beginning to understand that there is no fixed, constantly correct way of doing things. Carroll states that she made out the proper way of nursing it (which was to twist it up into a sort of knot, and then keep tight hold of its right ear and left foot, so as to prevent its undoing itself) The repetition of the word proper is telling here: the proper way of treating this Wonderland child is in fact very different from what the proper way would be in Alice s world. In March of 2007, Dr. Margaret Lavinia Anderson, a Professor Emerita of History at the University of California, Berkeley, published an article in The Journal of Modern History, entitled Down in Turkey, far away : Human Rights, the Armenian Massacres, and Orientalism in Wilhelmine Germany. In this article, Anderson examines the development of diplomatic relations between Germany and Turkey and, more specifically, why Germany became interested in the Near East, their motives, and, later, their alliance. She argues that Germany was mainly focused on developing a strong, influential relationship with the Ottoman Empire during the Wilhelmine era. An alliance with the Turks would be a joint cooperative effort to strengthen and modernize the failing Ottoman military and ensure safe passage into neighboring British colonies for the Germans, still trying to extend their influence beyond the Ottoman Empire eastward. The Germans sought to accomplish this and create a strong coalition by adopting a compliant attitude towards Armenian persecution and reiterating the Turkish rhetoric and belief that the Armenians were getting what they deserved.
