Criminology Vs Enlightenment
Throughout social sciences there are various opposing theories and perspectives, often based on the
same social and criminological phenomenon, with contradictory, contrasting explanations and
actualities .
Both the classical and positivist methodologies within criminological theory have been exceedingly
influential in their definition of and attitude to dealing with the concepts of crime and punishment. For
centuries, theorists have attempted to approve a new and current approach to criminal punishment, in
the hope that we can essentially understand thoroughly, and therefore know how to deal with criminal
behaviour in an efficient manner. The two theories in question do of course differ, yet also share
resemblances, and both influence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Politically speaking, it is the system of laissez faire (freedom). Capitalism was introduced as a moral
and practical system as it leaves the individual free to think rationally and therefore act purposefully.
The moral justification of capitalism lies in the fact that it is the only system in agreement with man s
rational nature , but also, its ruling principle is: justice. (Anon., 2015)
Classical theory is simply founded on the postulation that individuals exercise free will and are thus
completely responsible for their actions, it aims to decree laws that are clear, simple and unbiased but
that also reflect the consensus of the population; educate the public, eliminate corruption from the
supervision of justice, and reward virtue. (Patwary,

Myers, S.C. (1984). Finance Theory and Financial Strategy . Interfaces, 14.
Introduction
This journal explained how to bridge the gap between strategic planning and finance theory. Myers
wrote this journal to explain why finance analysis had only slight impact on strategic planning, even
though strategic planning needs finance. Strategic and financial analysis are not reconciled. When low
net present value (NPV) projects are nurtured for strategic reasons, the strategic analysis overrides
measures of financial value, and vice versa.
Relevant Financial Theory
The financial concepts most relevant to strategic planning are those dealing with firms capital
investment decisions. To select the projects to be financed, we calculate ... Show more content on

There is also a lesson for current appli cations of finance theory to strategic is sues. Several new
approaches to financial strategy use a simple, traditional DCF model of the firm, [For example,
Fruhan 1979, Ch. 2]. These approaches are likely to be more useful for cash cows than for growth
businesses with substantial risk and intangible assets. The option value of growth and intangibles is
not ignored by good managers even when conventional financial techniques miss them. These values
may be brought in as strategic factors, dressed in non financial clothes. Dealing with the time series
links between capital investments, and with the option value these links create, is often left to strategic
planners. But new developments in finance theory promise to help.
Conclusion
Myers argued that the standard discounted cash flow techniques will tend to understate the option
value attached to growing, profitable lines of business. To bridge the gap between strategic planning
and finance theory, Myers suggested that the financial theorist need to apply existing finance theory
correctly and extend the theory on real option pricing to model time series interactions between
investments. Both sides should reconcile financial and strategic analysis to uncover hidden
assumptions to have deeper understanding on strategic

Dating Online Essay
When navigating a dating app or website, searching and filtering tools allow daters to be more

Online dating functions best to the degree that it introduces people to potential partners they would
have been unlikely to encounter otherwise and facilitates a rapid transition to face to face interaction,
where the two people can get a clearer sense of their romantic potential. As online dating evolves and
matures, it seems likely that more and more of us will first encounter romantic partners online.
Live interaction is a complex, multifaceted process with an essence that cannot be fully captured by
CMC (Computer Mediated Communication). In online dating, users are wise to engage in CMC
briefly to assess basic levels of romantic potential and then move rapidly to face to face interactions.

The way people view human interaction will determine whether they go online to seek relationships or
not. Jaron Lanier, a founder of the field of virtual reality, made a similar point about social networking
sites, describing them as dehumanizing and fostering shallow interactions and a fakey fakey social life
(Kahn, 2011, p. 46). Relationships are most satisfying when partners adopt a communal orientation,
responding mutually to each other s needs and preferences (Clark et al., 2010), rather than an

Understanding The Formation Of An Obligation And Its...
To answer the given question, we must first understand the formation of an obligation and its different
types. The two primary types of obligation that arise in this assignment are unilateral obligations
(promises) and contracts. A Unilateral obligation is a responsibility; that exists for one party, not both,
to uphold what was agreed on, that will, in turn, benefit the other. It may sometimes profit both. A
contract is a legally binding agreement based on consent between two or more individuals, in which
an offer is created and accepted. It does not have to be written; it may be verbally made or accepted.
The purpose of a contract is to have some form of ownership over what is agreed. It usually begins
with an offer given by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many enter into social or domestic agreements every day with no intention to be legally bound to what
is accepted. If that is the case, then it can be shown that there was some intention to be legally bound
by the agreement and that any ordinary individual would presume that if the other party does not keep
to the agreement, there will be consequences that would follow. Bill and Horace created a verbal
agreement between friends to split any winnings at the casino, as was the case in Robertson V
Anderson. Agreements made in social situations are not binding depending on its circumstances.
However, based on the essential facts given, Robertson V Anderson may be prominent, and Bill
legally bound to the agreement made between himself and Horace. Scenario 2: The second scenario
deals with rectification. This is when a contract is entered, and parties have reached an agreement to
terms and these terms are ascertained in a written agreement, but the document does not show what
was agreed upon. The sales contract had a mistake of 5% instead of 20% commission. A similar
agreement was made in the case of Krupp V John Menzies Ltd. It was held that the common law court
of session had the power to correct obvious mistakes. For an issue such as this the statutory remedy
available is under section 8 (1)(a) the courts have power to

Harmony Theory In Phaedo By Plato
In Phaedo, by Plato, Phaedo recounts an incident with Socrates. The story starts with Socrates opening
up saying that Philosophers should not only accept death, but welcome it. After all, although the body
will pass, the soul is able to live on because it is immortal. He uses a lot of his intuition to back up his
claim, but the main rationale is the Argument of Affinity. He claims that the world is very binary.
Things are either incorporeal and invisible, or not. The body is physical, visible and corporeal. Things
like the body that are visible are part of the sensible world and do not last. The soul however is not. It
is invisible and incorporeal. That is why Socrates believes the soul is immortal. Simmias counters
Socrates claim bringing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clearly the harmony of the lyre is not immortal. Harmony doesn t survive the lyre, but rather is
dependent upon the lyre. The lyre is similar to the human body and soul. Harmony is divine and
incorporeal. However, the human body is much like the lyre in that it is both corporeal and visible.
Because the lyre is held together in the proper way and at the right degrees, it is able to exist just as
the soul does only through the appropriate ways and make up of the human body. This leads to the
point that just because things are invisible and incorporeal does not necessarily mean they are
immortal. We need to think of the soul as a different type of harmony.
Socrates objects Simmias claims and refutes Harmony Theory many ways, but the one I find most
notable is that Socrates believes that the soul is the master of the human body and directs and controls
the body. Since the soul is eternal and the body is not, the soul controls the body throughout the
entirety of its life. Socrates comments, further, of all parts of a man, can you mention any other part
that rules him than his soul, especially if it is a wise soul? (Plato 132). Because it has this power, it
tells the body what to do, where to move, and how to act. This is different than the harmony and the
lyre. For example, on the other hand, we previously agreed that if the soul were a harmony, it would
never be out of tune with the

Structural Formula Of Lexapro
Health Professionals make crucial decisions for prescriptions regarding pharmaceutical information.
Drug company promotional material is used by medical professionals to expand the knowledge of
certain prescriptions to their patients to secure a plan of action to treat their illness. The active
ingredient in Lexapro is Escitalopram oxalate. Escitalopram oxalate is an antidepressant in a drug
group called SSRI, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor.
The chemical name of Lexapro is Escitalopram. The IUPAC name is (1S) 1 [3 (dimethylamino)
propyl] 1 (4 fluorophenyl) 3H 2 benzofuran 5 carbonitrile, and the molecular formula is
C20H21FN2O.2 Lexapro is used for treating major anxiety and depression in adolescents and adults.
When diagnosed with depression, you lack the chemical serotonin. Serotonin is made in both the brain
and intestines, linking

your mood and other functions of your body. Lexapro works to boost the chemical activity of
Serotonin in your brain to mentally battle depression. The balancing act is created when serotonin is
released from one nerve cell and becomes available to the next. During this process, some of the
serotonin released is reabsorbed by the first nerve cell. Lexapro will block the re absorption of
serotonin into the first cell, which will eventually lead to an increased amount of serotonin to become
available.7

The Jesus, I Never Knew By Philip Yancey
Jesus is like the water a person drinks, it is a must to survive. I believe, that everyone has their
idealized image of a social figure he or she does not know such as Martin Luther King, John F,
Kennedy, and Malcolm X to name a few. Each of these people at one point has been portrayed in
entertainment and people do not know if what is being portrayed is true. According to Yancey (1995),
he described Jesus as thin, handsome, skin waxen and milky white man (p.13). However, after Yancey
attends college, he begins to ponder, who is the real image of Jesus, aside from what is being
portrayed in movies, or other entertainment? Sometimes, in life, people can go off what they have
seen or heard about a person and not really understand the person. While, I am a granddaughter, of a
minster, I have been told stories about who Jesus is, but have I seen him as the person he is deep
down? The purpose of this paper is seeking to discuss the summary of the book, The Jesus, I Never
Knew. I will be talking about Philip Yancey s take on what he thinks of Jesus. I also will be
discussing, some of Philip Yancey strengths and weakness about his book.
Everyone in life, has a certain image of what he or she thinks of Jesus. In the beginning of the book,
Phillip Yancey, talks about, Who Jesus Was in part one. In part one, the reader gains a better insight
into Jesus s younger years, which is unknown to many people. In fact, the only information that

These kinds of meetings will take place in an office room and when there will be a set date and time
for this. The way this kind or research will be carried out is by setting up an application for a job role
and then waiting for the applicants to apply. Once they have applied to the role you will then need to
invite them in for an interview. You will do this type of research when you need to find an employee
or if you need to interview someone for particular information.
Doing interviews has many advantages such as they are useful to obtain detailed information about
feelings because you will be able to see how that person reacts to your questions, you are able to ask
more detailed questions, they have a high response rate and the interviewees won t be influenced by
others.
With advantages there comes disadvantages such as they are very time consuming and they can be
costly.
Surveying is also a form of primary research and it is a good way to discover what a large amount of
people think about a particular subject and you can cover a wider range. Businesses will use this
method of research. The reason they will use this method is because it is able to cover a large quantity
of people and what their views are on a particular issue. This kind of research can be created on the
computer and then

Interracial Marriages In The 1950 s
Have a good day at work honey! , is something that a housewive would say to their working husbands
in the mornings when they leave for work. Women were always happier to be stay at home mothers

for was to make meals, house chorus, and to care for the children. Men only had to work to maintain
their families, be always right, and always gave inspiring moral advice. Since the family roles in the
1950 s were much more simple, many people believed that those were the best times to start a family.

Summary Of The Story Eveline Essay

English 1302.1001
10/3/15
There are many ways to interpret the short story Eveline ; however, I feel this story is very
meaningful. In the story, the 19 year old Eveline lives at home with her father and works at home and
in their store in a small town in Dublin, Ireland. Her brother Ernest has passed and Harry was in the
church decorating business and would help the family out by sending money. Eveline worked and
would give all of the money she earned to her father. When her father did give her money, Eveline was
expected to use that money to buy dinner so she could cook later that evening. In the beginning,
Eveline s father was more kind towards her, but after the mother and his son had passed, he took out
his anger on Eveline and the other siblings. Eveline had taken her mother s place, helping her siblings,
cleaning, and cooking. At times she had fell under her father s violence. At one time he threatens
Eveline by saying what he would do to her only for her mother s sake. (Joyce 598)She felt she had no
one to protect her. When Eveline talks about her childhood she says how everything used to be and
how everything has changed, also how everyone has left or passed on. Eveline then realizes that she
to, was to go away like the others and leave her home. This leads to her looking around the room, and

Redemption. Films including Stand By Me (1986) and The Shining (1980) establish King s name in
the cinematic world. This notoriety would have been beneficial to the film as the director, Frank
Darabont, had only ever directed a short film before, which was coincidentally also an adaptation of
Stephen King s The Woman In The Room. Fidelity can be difficult to accomplish when adapting
written text to the screen as there are a different set of rules and limitations. Where a novel may have
hundreds of pages, a film only has a few hours to convey the same message and meaning to the
audience. A film must show the events whereas a written text can tell the reader what occurred.
In the novella, Red is introduced before Andy. The entire story is from his point of view. As the
narrator of the novella, Red feels that before he can talk about Andy he has to explain a few other
things about [him]self (2012, p.4). The reader gains more of an insight into Red and his past than is in
the film. In The Shawshank Redemption the audience is initially shown Andy on the night of the
murder of his wife and her lover. Darabont

Analysis Of Passing By Nella Larsen
the novel Passing, Nella Larsen explores the consequences and disadvantages of two African
Americans living in a segregated society. The reconnection between Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry
illustrates two different paths in regards to how they portray themselves in their own community.
Larsen displays Clare Kendry as a light skinned women who tolerates her husband s racial comments
in order to live in a higher society. Clare s decision to secretly hide her racial background because of
the desire of wanting to be accepted by individuals of an upper social class greatly affects Irene. Clare
s determination of overcoming racial barriers by passing as a white individual is similar to the
Rhinelander/Jones case. In 1924 the son of the wealthiest families in New York married the daughter
of a taxicab driver. However, Leonard Rhinelander appealed to have is marriage annulled due to
believing his wife to be white when he married her (135). Rhinelander suspected Alice Jones was
hiding her racial background by passing as a white individual. As the trial progressed it was concluded
that that Rhinelander had an understanding of her racial background before marriage was an option
between the two. The Rhinelander/Jones case demonstrates how Clare Kendry decided to pass as a
white individual in order to obtain wealth and social status by marrying a white male. The three
criticism texts chosen demonstrates how racial passing between Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry
contributes to social status.
In Nella Larsen s Passing: A Problem of Interpretation, Claudia Tate argues that race is not the novels
foremost concern, but is merely a mechanism for setting the story in motion (344). Tate s decision to
focus on the psychological ambiguity (343) of the novel forbids her to elaborate on the relation
between race and social class. As a result, I disagree with certain statements from Tate s argument due
to the lack of acknowledging the issue regarding race and social class. Tate initially claims that Irene s
understanding of race becomes a concern when the impending exposure of Clare s racial identity
threatens to hasten the disruption of Irene s domestic security (Tate 344). However, Irene s fear of
being spotted as a

Essay On Japan Labor Shortage Advantages And Disadvantages
Challenges that created by country characteristics:
1.High land prices
Japan is an island country(see in figure 1), the land area is only 378,000 square kilometers. Land is in
short supply, especially in the business district in Japan. And the price is absolutely the most
prohibitive all around the world. This is one of the major obstacles to business expansion in Japan.
Possible measures to deal with shortages include open stores dedicated to delivery, the establishment
of standard stores in lower rental areas, or the development of more profitable shops with smaller
kitchen areas.
Figure 1
2. Labor shortage and Japanese labor practices
Because of the lack of young workers from structural rather than temporal changes, including the
decline in the birth rate of Japan, labor shortages for the fast food industry becomes a serious problem.
Fast food industry mainly relies on high school graduates and college students part time staff. Half of
the full time employees, including the managers, are college graduates.
Therefore, management must provide them with the benefits of Japanese employment practices, such
as the seniority system and the lifetime employment system. Management must also be concerned
about the increase in salary levels and prevent them from leaving to ensure the future potential of
employees. In order to address labor shortage challenge, Kentucky Fried Chicken is attracting working
conditions by developing a new system, getting rid of dirty, dangerous, hard

Personal Leadership Application Examples
1. Defining leadership is a challenging assignment due to the many elements that leadership
encompasses. Leadership is inspiring others to be better. It is recognizing the strengths and
weaknesses in not only one s self but that of others. Understanding that leadership is not perfect and is
always evolving.
2. One of the same characteristics that came up for the leadership influences that I have experienced in
my career is support whether it is personal or professional support. An example of the support I
received in regards to my family, when I was stationed at District Nine Office of Law of Enforcement

My division officer, CDR Smith, allowed me to use a RAZ token to work from home instead of using
leave. I was truly appreciative for this type of support; it was hard enough taking care of my boys
without help from their father and also worrying about keeping up with work. I remember being in a
meeting with the higher ups and this coming up as a topic and how they did not believe that I should
be using the RAZ token and it is not the use it was intended for, and he his response was this is exactly
what it is intended for to work from home regardless of the reason. Having the support not only from
CDR Smith but also later from my Chief during those hard times made it easier for me to focus on
work and not worry about home. Many of the leaders that I have had were very competent within the
rate and supported me with regulations and procedures when I would get pushback on certain
processes I had put in place. Support is a huge factor when I look at people who have influenced me in
leadership.

Is Reconstruction Better Continuity Or Change Essay
Is Reconstruction better characterized as an era of continuity or change? Section 1: Introduction After

Many argue that the practice of sharecropping was just a continuation of slavery. Oftentimes,
conditions were poor and the compensation terms for work were unfair. Due to illiteracy, the
sharecropping contract was not even read by the farmer, begging the question that a contract was
legitimate and that the farmer even agreed to the terms. A sharecropping contract from 1865 reads, we
furthermore bind ourselves that we will obey the orders of Ross in all things in carrying out and
managing the crop. Quotes from contracts like this one begs the question, was sharecropping really
that different from slavery? People also argue that racism from pre Civil War America was the same as
racism during reconstruction. Racism was even used as a political tactic by some during
Reconstruction. In Democratic party campaign speech, a candidate for Alabama governor proclaims,

Due to the changes and intense job conditions labor unions began to form in an effort to bargain for
better rights. Strikes took place, resulting in conflict between workers and employers. The most
influential of the unions being created at the time was the American Federation of Labor union due to
its focus on higher wages and improved working conditions for its members. Miners in the mining
industry were faced with long working hours, unsafe working conditions and were poorly paid. Most
lived in company towers where doctors, schools, and law enforcement were provided by the actual
companies in an effort to control the workers. Companies maintained an oppressive working
environment, prohibiting workers from talking or gathering, to discourage the creation of unions.
(Habashi, 2011) In 1890 the Unite Mine Workers of America was founded representing workers in the
mining sector that fought for collective bargaining. During 1933 and 1936, President Franklin
Roosevelt s New Deal was created protecting the rights of labor unions and prohibited employers from
firing workers who took part in union activities. Labor Unions Today The work force has become

Essay The Corruption Scandal of the European Commission
Abstract: The Corruption Scandal of the European Commission and its possible effects on the
institutional balance and the question of legitimacy
I. Defining Corruption
The first chapter is an attempt to define corruption. It is important to divide overlapping and
complicated terms such as corruption, scandal and fraud. Corruption is defined as an illegal
transaction, where both actors benefit from their special position in the market or the government.
Scandal is the public reaction to allegations of corruption and thus it is interconnected with the issue
of legitimacy. Fraud, however is a purely criminal cathegory.

In the northern part of the continent there is more emphasis on the notions of incompatibility and the

II. The Organization of the European Commission
The Commission is at thte heart of the Union. It has a very important role in formulating policies,
initiating legislation, overseeing implementation, make administrative decisions.
The Commission had a great impact on the poltics of the Communities from the earliest times. The
ambitions of the Commission to gain more influence in European decision making caused frequent
conflict with the Council of Ministers, which saw the strengthening of the supranational Commission
as a main threat to the souvereignity of the member states. This conflict was accentuated at the
Luxembourg crisis in 1965, which was the greatest institutional crisis of the Community. The crisis
was caused by De Gaulle`s resistance of the Commission`s proposal of introducing majority voting in
the Council instead of unanimity. The French President paralysed the working of the Community by
practicing the quot;empty chair quot; politics, boykotting the Council of Ministers. The crisis was
solved by he Luxembourg compromise, which kept the veto of the member states.
The first sign of corruption in the Commission was the 1979 report of the Court of Auditors, which
accused the commissioners of using the community funds for private purposes and scrunitized the

Introduction At a session during a week of 24 hour daily prayer at our local church, something of the
crisis of church in the C21st penetrated my soul. The church rector cried out on behalf of a church in
decline. I took note. I had begun to explore the mystical and contemplative tradition of my faith and
signed up for Ignatian Spiritual Direction training. I joined with a Christian business colleague to lead
a small gathering of women who do not relate to church but who wanted to explore their spirituality.
Embarking on this journey, seems very tenuous compared to evangelical church with its focus, goals
and mission statements. It raises questions about what is church when it seems so difficult for these
women to engage with it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lavish religious ceremony of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 epitomised the sense of
hope to a nation being restored and re built heightened by being televised and watched by millions.
Rituals like first communion were still a significant rite of passage though communicants might be
largely absent from weekly services the rest of the year. In non conformist churches, children who
didn t regularly go to church would turn up to participate in the annual Sunday School Anniversary the
girls in white dresses, the boys in white shirts and ties. Church life was a mellow old sofa like part of
community and the basic tenets of the Christian faith still held as a commonly recognised moral code.
That context began to change during the 1960s where by the end of the decade there was a shift in
social and sexual attitudes as the role of women and traditional often Christian, family based values
could no longer be taken for granted. The work of philosophers such as Jacques Derrida, Jean Paul
Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir and others which deconstructed traditional values and introduced
themes of fragmentation and what some would see as the influence of meaningless ness, influenced
the shift in thinking which impacted the culture of the time. There has been a radical change since the
sunny complacency of the 1950s, a change increasingly dominated by the secular world. I have

Analysis Of Herbert Hoover s The Great Gatsby
This script presents as a historical, character driven drama that explores an interesting part of Herbert
Hoover s life as a secretary and mining scout in Australia. The tone is consistently dramatic with a
nice element of wit and humor. The era, culture, and time period feel authentic and believable. The
historical information feels well researched.
Hoover s goal to become rich and marry the woman of his dreams is well established and drives
Hoover s actions.
Will the story has the potential to be a compelling drama, the script would benefit from more
development, especially in the area of structure, pace, and tension.
First, the opening begins when Hoover is handing over his Presidency and then flashbacks back in
time. This is a workable structure, although the opening scene doesn t immediately grab the attention
of the audience. It s heavy with dialogue and doesn t highlight the emotion of Hoover.
The first act is driven by Hoover s quest for a job so that he can marry the woman he loves. The first
act is a bit repetitive in dialogue, as his friends repeatedly counsel him about meeting with Lou s
father and what to do and say. Hoover also tends to repeat his goal several times about getting rich and
marrying Lou (page 17 and page 20 are examples).
The second act is driven by Hoover s job in Australia. The concern about the second act is that there s
very little compelling tension to sustain the overall plot. The story requires stronger pivotal plot beats

Introduction This journal explained how to bridge the gap between strategic planning and finance theory. Myers wrote this journal to explain why finance analysis had only slight impact on strategic planning, even though strategic planning needs finance. Strategic and financial analysis are not reconciled. When low net present value (NPV) projects are nurtured for strategic reasons, the strategic analysis overrides measures of financial value, and vice versa. Relevant Financial Theory The financial concepts most relevant to strategic planning are those dealing with firms capital investment decisions. To select the projects to be financed, we calculate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is also a lesson for current appli cations of finance theory to strategic is sues. Several new approaches to financial strategy use a simple, traditional DCF model of the firm, [For example, Fruhan 1979, Ch. 2]. These approaches are likely to be more useful for cash cows than for growth businesses with substantial risk and intangible assets. The option value of growth and intangibles is not ignored by good managers even when conventional financial techniques miss them. These values may be brought in as strategic factors, dressed in non financial clothes. Dealing with the time series links between capital investments, and with the option value these links create, is often left to strategic planners. But new developments in finance theory promise to help. Conclusion Myers argued that the standard discounted cash flow techniques will tend to understate the option value attached to growing, profitable lines of business. To bridge the gap between strategic planning and finance theory, Myers suggested that the financial theorist need to apply existing finance theory correctly and extend the theory on real option pricing to model time series interactions between investments. Both sides should reconcile financial and strategic analysis to uncover hidden assumptions to have deeper understanding on strategic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Harmony Theory In Phaedo By Plato In Phaedo, by Plato, Phaedo recounts an incident with Socrates. The story starts with Socrates opening up saying that Philosophers should not only accept death, but welcome it. After all, although the body will pass, the soul is able to live on because it is immortal. He uses a lot of his intuition to back up his claim, but the main rationale is the Argument of Affinity. He claims that the world is very binary. Things are either incorporeal and invisible, or not. The body is physical, visible and corporeal. Things like the body that are visible are part of the sensible world and do not last. The soul however is not. It is invisible and incorporeal. That is why Socrates believes the soul is immortal. Simmias counters Socrates claim bringing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clearly the harmony of the lyre is not immortal. Harmony doesn t survive the lyre, but rather is dependent upon the lyre. The lyre is similar to the human body and soul. Harmony is divine and incorporeal. However, the human body is much like the lyre in that it is both corporeal and visible. Because the lyre is held together in the proper way and at the right degrees, it is able to exist just as the soul does only through the appropriate ways and make up of the human body. This leads to the point that just because things are invisible and incorporeal does not necessarily mean they are immortal. We need to think of the soul as a different type of harmony. Socrates objects Simmias claims and refutes Harmony Theory many ways, but the one I find most notable is that Socrates believes that the soul is the master of the human body and directs and controls the body. Since the soul is eternal and the body is not, the soul controls the body throughout the entirety of its life. Socrates comments, further, of all parts of a man, can you mention any other part that rules him than his soul, especially if it is a wise soul? (Plato 132). Because it has this power, it tells the body what to do, where to move, and how to act. This is different than the harmony and the lyre. For example, on the other hand, we previously agreed that if the soul were a harmony, it would never be out of tune with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many of King s literary works had been adapted to screen prior to the release of The Shawshank Redemption. Films including Stand By Me (1986) and The Shining (1980) establish King s name in the cinematic world. This notoriety would have been beneficial to the film as the director, Frank Darabont, had only ever directed a short film before, which was coincidentally also an adaptation of Stephen King s The Woman In The Room. Fidelity can be difficult to accomplish when adapting written text to the screen as there are a different set of rules and limitations. • 23. Analysis Of Passing By Nella Larsen the novel Passing, Nella Larsen explores the consequences and disadvantages of two African Americans living in a segregated society. The reconnection between Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry illustrates two different paths in regards to how they portray themselves in their own community. Larsen displays Clare Kendry as a light skinned women who tolerates her husband s racial comments in order to live in a higher society. Clare s decision to secretly hide her racial background because of the desire of wanting to be accepted by individuals of an upper social class greatly affects Irene. Clare s determination of overcoming racial barriers by passing as a white individual is similar to the Rhinelander/Jones case. In 1924 the son of the wealthiest families in New York married the daughter of a taxicab driver. However, Leonard Rhinelander appealed to have is marriage annulled due to believing his wife to be white when he married her (135). Rhinelander suspected Alice Jones was hiding her racial background by passing as a white individual. As the trial progressed it was concluded that that Rhinelander had an understanding of her racial background before marriage was an option between the two. The Rhinelander/Jones case demonstrates how Clare Kendry decided to pass as a white individual in order to obtain wealth and social status by marrying a white male. The three criticism texts chosen demonstrates how racial passing between Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry contributes to social status. In Nella Larsen s Passing: A Problem of Interpretation, Claudia Tate argues that race is not the novels foremost concern, but is merely a mechanism for setting the story in motion (344). Tate s decision to focus on the psychological ambiguity (343) of the novel forbids her to elaborate on the relation between race and social class. As a result, I disagree with certain statements from Tate s argument due to the lack of acknowledging the issue regarding race and social class. Tate initially claims that Irene s understanding of race becomes a concern when the impending exposure of Clare s racial identity threatens to hasten the disruption of Irene s domestic security (Tate 344). It is recognizing the strengths and weaknesses in not only one s self but that of others. Understanding that leadership is not perfect and is always evolving. 2. One of the same characteristics that came up for the leadership influences that I have experienced in my career is support whether it is personal or professional support. An example of the support I received in regards to my family, when I was stationed at District Nine Office of Law of Enforcement I was going through a divorce with two small children. Having the support not only from CDR Smith but also later from my Chief during those hard times made it easier for me to focus on work and not worry about home. Many of the leaders that I have had were very competent within the rate and supported me with regulations and procedures when I would get pushback on certain processes I had put in place. In non conformist churches, children who didn t regularly go to church would turn up to participate in the annual Sunday School Anniversary the girls in white dresses, the boys in white shirts and ties. Church life was a mellow old sofa like part of community and the basic tenets of the Christian faith still held as a commonly recognised moral code. The tone is consistently dramatic with a nice element of wit and humor. The era, culture, and time period feel authentic and believable. The historical information feels well researched. Hoover s goal to become rich and marry the woman of his dreams is well established and drives Hoover s actions. First, the opening begins when Hoover is handing over his Presidency and then flashbacks back in time. This is a workable structure, although the opening scene doesn t immediately grab the attention of the audience. It s heavy with dialogue and doesn t highlight the emotion of Hoover. The first act is driven by Hoover s quest for a job so that he can marry the woman he loves. The first act is a bit repetitive in dialogue, as his friends repeatedly counsel him about meeting with Lou s father and what to do and say. Hoover also tends to repeat his goal several times about getting rich and marrying Lou (page 17 and page 20 are examples). The second act is driven by Hoover s job in Australia.
