Sororities And Fraternities In A Fraternity
n college, sometimes as African American females or males we tend to look for the best
organization to come apart of, because of family members went to this college or apart of an
organization. Until we come across the background of each organization and history of what the
real reasons why the sororities and fraternities came to be what it is today. Each fraternity along
with sororities had morals of valuing brotherhood and sisterhood that they can share in a union.
What made various sororities and fraternities so popular was they were involved with the
community, civil rights, and politics. It also involved many famous people to civil rights leaders

This Film is Not Yet Rated is a Documentary Directed by...
This Film is Not Yet Rated is a documentary directed by Kirby Dick, and produced by Eddie
Schmidt about the Motion Picture Association of America (or the MPAA) and their often unjust
rules in rating movies. The MPAA s rating system is as follows: G and PG are the same as they are
in Australia, M is called PG 13 in America, MA15+ is R, and R18+ is NC 17, the latter being the
strongest rating. The difference between an R movie and an NC 17 movie can be as wide as
hundreds of millions of dollars, and is factored by disparities between Hollywood and indie
filmmakers, straight and gay sex, male and female sexual depictions and violent and sexual content.
Little is known about the production process of This Film Is Not Yet Rated, other than it... Show

An unrated cut was made in response to the NC 17 rating, which prevented the documentary from
being publicly screened without review. Dick originally planned to get permission from the
studios to use their clips from NC 17 rated films, but he discovered that studio licensing
agreements would have prohibited him from using the clips to criticize the MPAA. This prompted
Dick to use the clips under the fair use doctrine, which allows copyrighted clips to be used for
criticism, and lead to greater interest among documentary filmmakers in fair use as a result.
This Film Is Not Yet Ratedpremiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, and was given a standing
ovation and subsequently received positive reviews from critics. It has an 84% Certified Fresh
score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 117 reviews and a score of 75/100 on Metacritic based on 33
reviews, indicating Generally favourable reviews . Critics praised the revelations surrounding the
MPAA, as well as its humour. Some critics were less receptive, calling it smug and criticised the
documentary for its unbalanced viewpoint and a supposed lack of research. The documentary
continued to draw crowds at many more festivals, including South by Screenwest and the Seattle
International Film Festival, and went into theatrical release in select theatres on September

American Indians Totemic Beliefs
To discover the basis of elementary religion, we must further dig into the totemic beliefs people
once had to get to the point where we are today. However, to understand how our society was
constructed. Australian tribes were generally the ones to believe in totemic but, they were not
originally the first to find totemic beliefs. One of the first people to discover totemwere the North
American Indians. In fact, the civilization was more advanced in Indian tribes than of Australian
cults. The technology has become more developed, the people live in houses or tents and there are
even fortified villages. The social density is greater, and centralization, which is altogether absent in
Australia. (Durkheim 93). The reason why North American Indians... Show more content on

These classifications are indeed the first that we meet in history. We just saw that they are
modeled on social organization, or rather that they have taken the actual framework of society as
their own. It was the phratries that served as genera and the clans as species. It is because men
formed groups that they were able to group things: All they did was make room for things they
themselves already formed. And if these various classes of things were not simply juxtaposed to
one another but arranged instead of according to a unified plan, that is because the same social
groups to which they are assimilated are themselves unified and, through that union, form an
organic whole: the tribe. The unity of these first logical systems merely reproduces that of society .

These tribes of men have constructed the idea of social organization and genus in history, because
this, it is the first time social construction is introduced when we consider tribes and cults that
believed in totems mainly in Australia. Durkheim also

Connection To Native American Culture
My connection to Native American culture is very limited. The knowledge I do have would
primarily be from the Disney movie Pocachontas as well as what I learned in elementary school
relating to the first settlers and Thanksgiving. I have a basic understanding that their culture is
based deeply in spiritual rituals. I also know that they have been forced to move from their land
and have had to fight to keep the reservations that they currently reside on.
I would say that the Native American culture most influences me in relation to my love of art. The
Native Americans are well known for many artistic things in jewelry and pottery. The Native

The Suez Crisis and Sir Antony Eden
The Suez Crisis is often cited by some historians as one of the worst historical decisions that
imprinted an indelible mark on the then British premier Sir Antony Eden. More often than not the
decision by Eden to invade Egypt following a disagreement about nationalization of the Suez Canal
is often cited as a the worst foreign policy decision that destroyed Eden political career and
humiliated British empirein its wake. The decision by Eden to use military force against Nasser is
often viewed by many as arising from a personal grudge towards Nasser, while only a few defend
the fact that Eden had attempted to resolve the looming conflict peacefully.
A Brief Introduction about Sir Robert Antony Eden It is unfortunate that despite Sir Antony Eden
having successfully served as Britain for three decades as a foreign secretary and his subsequent
rise to become the British prime minister in 1955 was overshadowed by the 1956 Suez Crisis that
saw him tender his resignation after serving approximately 18 months in office. While justifying
this action, Eden cited that he was protecting British commercial interests of which the recent
nationalization of the Suez Canal by Nasser seemed to threaten. Eden strongly perceived Nasser as
a dictator and that his actions could easily be replicated with the actions of Hitler and Mussolini
that subsequently ignited World War.
Born to a baronet in County Durham on 12 June 1987, Antony Eden was educated at Eton and
oxford where he

Autistic Friendly Space Essay

Designing the Space for Autism
According to the Center for Disease Control, one in sixty eight American children are diagnosed
with autism. Those with autism are highly sensitive to sight, sound, as well as touch and this can
make it difficult for individuals on the spectrum to function within an enclosed space. Finding the
right balance is key when designing an autistic friendly space, as autistic individuals can have a
strong aversion to change. Having too flexible of an environment can invoke fear if the
environment is always changing. It is important, when designing for autism, to offer both flexibility
and variety and be sensitive to sensation and stimulus.
Since autistic individuals perceive lighting, colors, and patterns differently, ... Show more content

Strike a balance between having large, open spaces and offering small, intimate spaces. By offering
variety, you allow for flexibility and can more easily accommodate the needs and sensitivities of
each autistic individual.
2.Autistic individuals are also sensitive to the feel of physical objects, and while this sensitivity
varies from person to person, you can strike a happy medium by favoring the use of natural
materials and textiles. Lean more towards the use of wood, rubber, wool, porcelain, cork, and
rubber.
3.Keep in the mind the acoustics, as for many autistic individuals this can be distracting and over
stimulating. The hum of fluorescent lighting, the sound of an air conditioning or heating unit, the
sound of someone eating, footsteps, or even hearing multiple forms of sound at once can be
maddening, distracting, and can even cause pain. Many autistic individuals suffer from headaches
and can become agitated when they are inundated with multiple forms of sound.
4.Provide withdrawal, or isolation, spaces where one can go to re center when they have become
over stimulated and overwhelmed. It is also important to design these rooms to be as soundproof as
possible, so the elimination of ambient sound can become

Application Of Nikola Tesla s Alternating Current...
A notable application of Nikola Tesla s Alternating Current induction motor is the Electric
Vehicle (EV). EVs are powered by an electric motor rather than a conventional gasoline engine. It
is important to make the distinction between an EV and a hybrid, plug in hybrid, or hydrogen
fuel cell car. For our analysis, an EV is a vehicle that is completely driven by an electric motor,
which is powered by a large battery, such as the BMW i3 and the Tesla Model S.
Although EVs have been available since the 1890s, when EVs outsold gasoline powered cars ten
to one [1], they have become more relevant in the past decade as greenhouse gas emissions reach all
time highs. In fact, atmospheric CO2 (the primary greenhouse gas emitted from combustion)
concentration as of September 2015 was 397.64 ppm [2]. To put this figure into perspective,
consider that in the past 400 thousand years (excluding the last century) CO2 concentration did not
surpass 300 ppm [3]. The increase in atmospheric CO2 can be correlated to an increase in the
average global temperature. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
the increase in greenhouse gases collectively over the past two centuries has led to a temperature
increase of 0.85в—¦C [4]. Although some may claim that the effect of the rise of CO2
concentration levels on average temperature is exaggerated, it is generally accepted that increases
in atmospheric CO2 lead to higher temperatures. Higher average global temperatures serve as

Relationship Between The Us And Indian Communities Of...
The US in the 1830s debated the relationship between the US and Indian communities of North
America. The principles calling for equal rights and political democracy of the people in America
were in contradiction with the principles the US was initially against. American colonists began
to view the vast expanse of lands controlled by Indians as desirable and could now use Indians in
a new way: to acquire land for development . As the rapidly growing United Statesbegan to move
towards the South in the early nineteenth century, white settlers were confronted by the Cherokee,
Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw and Seminole nations, which became an obstacle in the way of their

This declared Indian Removal as unconstitutional since sovereign nations could not be constrained.
Accordingly, the question, What is the best explanation for why President Andrew Jacksonand the
United States continued with Indian removal even after the court deemed the forced removal of
and interference in the affairs of sovereign nations unconstitutional? is viable because it analyzes
and examines the arguments and describes the principles the US relied on and practiced as one
description and assessment of Jacksonian Democracy and thus explains why they were able to
continue with Indian Removal. Indian removal was maintained because of the varying points of
view between the three parties: President Jackson (Pro Removal), the Supreme Court and the
Indians. This transformed into a quarrel between the President Jackson and the Supreme Court
while the Indians and their views were completely and utterly disregarded. The varying points of
view brought up contradictions and created tensions that ultimately created a window for Indian
Removal.
Greed for Land and Power
Many Americans advocated Indian removal because of their greedy intentions for power and land.
The US took control of Indian land through treaties. At first, these treaties were to maintain peace.
However, as time went on, the US started taking advantage of the Indians generosity and their
greed got worse. Before, it was just a

Argumentative Essay On Mascots
Currently in the NFL, the Washington Redskins are being faced with a staggering controversy:
Should they change they change their mascot as a result of Native Americans viewing it is a racial
discriminatory (Angle 2016)? Dating back to 1933, when the Washington NFL team abandoned the
original title of Braves and adopted Redskins, the debate has since been longstanding (Hylton
2014). Native Americans are challenging the team to rid them, along with all team mascot names
relating to their culture countrywide, of their title, but the mascot names have no negative
connotation and should not be protested against. The controversy relates back to the 1900s when
Native Americans began to feel oppressed and teams began using their titles as mascot (Brady
2016). During this period regulations forbade Native Americans to speak their language, practice
their religions or leave their reservations (Brady 2016). To enforce this, laws were passed to
transform the Native Americans into the white culture (Brady 2016). In other... Show more content

Self Habituation In Brave New World
Epicurus was a Greek philosopher born in 341 B.C., and he lived until 240 B.C. According to The
Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, He [Epicurus] claimed to be self taught, although tradition
states that he was schooled in the systems of Plato and Democritus by his father and various
philosophers (Columbia). These prior philosophers heavily influenced the ideals that Epicurus
would popularize later on in life. The ideals of Epicurus went on to be known as Epicureanism,
which essentially was a school of thought that recognized pleasure as the greatest virtue (James).
Epicurus grew up in the Athenian colony of Samos in the Mediterranean Sea. He began his
philosophical education at the age of 19 after the death of Aristotle (O Keefe). After this... Show

Primarily the Epicurean ideal of self habituation is exercised on a regular basis. In fact in the
World State, self habituation is so idealized that even young children are encouraged to satisfy
themselves sexually as they please. This is made evident in chapter 3, where the children are
observed taking part in a rudimentary sexual game (Huxley 32). Aside from physical habituation,
mental satisfaction is heavy practiced as individuals in the world state consume soma, a drug that
elicits utter bliss, in any occasion of mental stress. The quote Was and will make me ill, I take a
gramme and only am (Huxley 111) exemplifies the extent to which citizens of the World State avoid
troublesome thought and instead turn to soma because it is pleasurable. Furthermore, the idea that
God/s take second place to science is another congruency between A Brave New Worldand
Epicureanism. As stated by the quote Call it the fault of civilization. God isn t compatible with
machinery and scientific medicine and universal happiness (Huxley 261) the ideals of both entities
mandate that God/s must take second place the sciences. For these reasons the ideals of the society
in A Brave New World, and the ideals of Epicureanism are incredibly

Cuiousity and a Sense of Adventure Drove the Atomic Age
The Atomic Age was driven by curiosity and a sense of adventure. As some of the most well
thinkers of the day continued with passion about physics, their self confident in peeling the
layers of the proverbial scientific onion led to severe unintended consequences that dramatically
impacted the lives of billions of people. Moreover, complacency fuelled by arrogance resulted in
the betrayal of compassion and principled action, ultimately leading to the sacrifice of millions to
pay the debt of a few. Atomic energy re invigorated technological and scientific purpose of the
early 20th century. Augmenting knowledge through scientific inquiry motivated researchers and
academics to collaborate in labs and conferences in developing an emerging field. As discoveries
dotted the path to scientific self indulgence, the purported results of the research which was often
purely coincidental, was promoted as yielding untold benefits to society. Medicine would be
radically transformed and the scarcity of energy to fuel engines of economic growth would be a
thing of the past (De Groot, Steg Poortinga, 2013). The marvels of the atomic age, it seemed,
would become the Holy Grail that would breathe renewed life to human progress. Despite leaps in
theoretical knowledge, the development of the Atomic Age also transitioned into a more nefarious
pre occupation for some. As successive wars raged across the Atlantic and consumed much of
Europe, the development of a weapon became a central focus

He loathes this birthmark so much that he says it reminds him of sin and earthliness, opposed to

women usually remain less politically active in most nations, contrary to expectations. The gender

Essay about Beowulf and Superman
A hero is defined in classical mythology as a man, especially the son of a god and a mortal, who
is famous for possessing some extraordinary gift. Beowulf, the title character of an epic poem and
Superman, a more modern day hero are both prime examples. Beowulf and Superman exhibit
several differences, but they also share some similar qualities.
Beowulf possessed great strength that separated him from other men. Being able to use a sword
that no ordinary man was able to carry gives the feeling that Beowulf is something more than a
human being. It makes him special and causes him to stand out from all other men. Fame is
something that makes a hero more noted. Beowulf s popularity ... Show more content on

Superman, also known as Clark Kent, is the most popular modern day hero. Superman spent most
of his time saving people from natural disasters and corrupt businessmen. He would level slums to
force the city to build decent housing, and he would use his powers to terrorize munitions makers.
When Superman encounters Kryptonite for the first time it first appears as a red glowing
substance, which Superman uses his powers on to trace its origin. Superman then pays for his
discovery of Kryptonite when Luthor learns to synthesize it, causing it to remain green forever on.
Gravity of Earth did not prove to be a good enough reason for Superman s powers, thus they
attributed his super senses to the yellow sun radiation, and
his muscular strength, speed, and flight due to the Earth s gravity. Due to the new explanation of
his powers, Superman no longer had super powers on a world without a yellow sun. Lex Luthor and
other villains began to create weapons that used quot;red sun radiation quot; which made Superman
s life miserable.
During the course of the battle for Truth and Justice, man and sword came together at last. Holding
the sword, Superman found himself expanding, spreading across the winds of the universe. The
entire history of creation flooded his mind, and his consciousness expanded as he became and all

world. In 2011 and 2012, she secretly wrote articles for the British Broadcasting Corporation
detailing life in an area which was constantly a daily battle between the Taliban and the Pakistani
army, specifically how difficult life was for women just to get education because of the Taliban.
The New York Times saw the stories and were given permission by the British Broadcasting

offered and ordered a military medical evacuation of Malala from Pakistan to the United Kingdom,
so she can receive proper medical treatment for her injuries. The United Arab Emirates also helped
by clearing their runway at Dubai Airport and invited the British convoy to a priority landing there,
so they could refuel fully for a quicker home journey. When she fully recovered, the Taliban said
that they would still target her until they were successful. So, the British government offered her
asylum in the United Kingdom, where she remained under protection of the British government to
complete her education. Completing her education was her strongest wish. She has now founded an

Identity And Sense Of Belonging Essay
A person s background can shape their attitudes, beliefs and behaviours. For me, growing up
around my sisters shaped the way I viewed things and behaved, and likewise; with Aboriginal
peoples, their culture has formed their beliefs and views. Before I started Caring for Country, some
things I was unaware of include:
1.Diversity
2.Land
3.Identity and sense of belonging
4.Proper pronouns
5.Adaption
6.The Dreaming
7.Performance
8.Visual arts
9.Tourism
Despite Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders originating from the same general area, both
cultures are diverse in socio cultural customs and language. Aboriginal peoples are from the

The land has significant importance to Aboriginal peoples because it is more than just land to
them; it is the core of their spirituality and connection. In regards to land, they believe in
preserving the environment, rather than to build upon it and westernise. Aboriginal peoples
identify and feel a sense of belonging to their land with the evidence of rock engravings and
artwork. They are people as much as white people are, therefore, I have learned to spell it with a
capital, be aware of the different groups within Aboriginal peoples (Kaurna, etc.), and to say
Aboriginal peoples rather than Aboriginal because it sounds discriminative and segregated. I
acknowledge Aboriginal peoples were the First Nation peoples to settle in Australia; therefore, they
have created the fundamental base of adaption for the white peoples, such as digging sticks, rocks
to carve with, and even the invention of the Didgeridoo. The Dreaming is a central part of their

Poe s The Man of the Crowd As a Satire of the Penny Press
In the mid nineteenth century , the penny newspaper could be found on almost every American
urban street corner. These penny papers, as they were popularly called, provided the American
people for the first time in history with informative articles about local city events, incidents, and,
more importantly, inner city crime. These penny rags revealed an entirely new world to the
American citizens; they were informed for the first time of the many heinous crimes and murders
that occurred right in the vicinity of their own houses. At a time when America was first being
introduced to such local injustices, it is quite understandable that penny papers claiming to ... Show

In hopes of spotting such profitable incidents, penny press journalists were always on the look out
for anything suspicious and anything worthy of being sensationalized. Interestingly, in his short
story, The Man of the Crowd, Edgar Allan Poe includes a first person narrator who also seems to
be on the look out for anything out of the ordinary.
While he may not reveal himself as a penny journalist, this narrator certainly plays the part of one
as he singles out an old man making a devious gesture in the crowd and begins to speculate about
his possible criminal intentions. Like a nosy penny tabloid reporter hungry for a juicy lead, the
narrator follows the old man into the night, hoping, if not to catch him in an act of crime, then to fit
his behaviors into the mold of criminality. Interestingly, while the old man does in fact turn out to
be nothing more than an innocent wanderer of the streets, the narrator still proceeds to formulate
his own exaggerated conclusions about the old man s supposed criminal intentions. By setting the
first person narrator up as the stereotypical penny journalist and then making the very target of his
exaggeration nothing more than an innocent, commonplace man of the crowd, it can be argued that
Poe is in fact mocking the penny press for their tendency to inflate the actions of innocent people

Three Year Trend
It is evidently by the graph that the amount of sassy comments significantly decreased over the
three week programme. The programme had an average of 10.7 sassy remarks per day compared
to the baseline data of 15.5, this shows an average decrease of 4.8 sassy comments. Consequently,
the programme data greatly fluctuates over the three weeks with the maximum number of sassy
comment made during the three week period was fifteen and the minimum was six.
Unmistakeably, there are several trends, both of which are also seen in the baseline data. Firstly,
the general trend of sassy comments decreases towards the end of the week and during the

Comparing the two data s, the baseline data had a positive correlation of 0.4048 whereas the

a negative trend. Although, the 0.1513 is a relatively weak decrease compared to a reasonably
moderate increase of 0.4048, it nevertheless demonstrates a small effectiveness of the programme.
As seen on the graph, the blue line (baseline data) is largely above the yellow line (programme
date) in an upward trend whereas the yellow line gradually declines. It is highly difficult to factor
out the antecedents that influence my behaviour; therefore understanding those factors is the
second best option. I have noted that my mood affects my amount of sassiness each day and that
midweek my mood significantly decreases and then increases in late week. Although, it impacts my
data greatly it is too difficult to change these controlling factors. A solution to the problem would
be to control the amount of people I see, thus, controlling my sassiness. Generally, I only express
sassy comments as a response to a cheeky or somewhat vacuous question/comment made by an
acquaintance. Henceforth, restricting the amount of people I see midweek when my sassiness

also in Cambodia and Laos. The war initially began when communist forces tried to expand and
include Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in the communist force. The opposing political agendas
also played an impacting role on the starting of the Vietnam War, due to North Vietnam becoming
a communist government it was strongly supported by China in order to change South Vietnam
from being an anti communist government to adopting communism. In 1965 Australia became

The Collapse of the Qing Dynasty Essay
Explain the key reasons for the collapse of the Qing Dynasty.
The Qing Dynasty s collapse was due to three main influences, with underlying reasons involved in
each. The first being foreign intervention related strongly to militarism, gunboat diplomacy,
imperialism and the rise of unequal treaty systems. The second influence was China s failure to
reform and uprisings, such as the boxer rebellion and lastly economic decline. These three factors
ultimately resulted in the downfall of the dynasty.
The Qing Dynasty relied heavily on the effectiveness of its fighting forces. However, due to
corruption and loss of skills the military began to crumble. Militarism, the use of army for political
advantage, became very influential for a large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a major example of imperialism as these treaties favored foreign trade but China didn t
gain any concession from the foreigners. This in turn weakening the economic power of china and
the governments control over the country weakened.
Failure to reform was mainly due to weak and ineffective leadership, the conservatives, and
especially corruption of the dynasty and its officials.
Ineffective leadership and very luxurious living of the emperors and government officials also led
to the collapse of the Qing Dynasty. Officials were left in charge of the administration of the
dynasty because the two emperors of the time, Tongzhi and Guangxu were still children, and this
lack of imperial control gave Cixi the ability to rule from behind the curtain .
Corruption was also throughout many aspects of the administration of the Qing Dynasty. Many
officials increased their own personal fortunes by raising peasant s taxes and by pocketing money,
which was to be used for infrastructure, such as the river mitigation project.
Finally uprisings and economic decline plunged the Qing Dynasty into failure because of the
rebellions, peasant discontentment, which both resulted in resentment of the dynasty. Another
factor influencing the economic decline was natural disasters.
Irresponsible spending and the luxuries experienced by the emperor and

Winslow Homer s Impact On Society
Winslow Homer is regarded by many as the greatest American painter of the nineteenth century
whose mastery in direct observation of his subject matter was considered the most powerful and
expressive during his time. Born in Boston and largely self taught, Homer began his career as an
illustrator. Perhaps no other American artist during this time was as accomplished in diverse
mediums, such as lithography, engraving, oil painting, and watercolors. Early in his career he was
recognized for his artistic talents, and his fondness for narrative and drama that led to
employment with Harper s Weekly. He was a careful observer of visual realism, and he paid
attention to the purely physical properties of pigment and color, of line and form and the patterns...

This form of entertainment consisted of whites in blackface for the purpose of playing the role of
blacks as lazy with exaggerated features. This controversial portrayal of blacks before the Civil
War contributed to the propagation of stereotypes that not only played a significant role in the
perception of blacks, but it created lasting racist images and attitudes about the black culture. In the
years that followed the Civil War, political and social readjustments captured the thoughts of most
Americans. Homer s employment with Harper s Weekly, was to reflect these realignments. His
portrayal of blacks were not necessarily the typical minstrel show conception , however, blacks
were portrayed dramatically humorous or comical, if not rendered purposely in Harper s. Maybe
Homer could have lapsed into the stereotypes of blacks but his attitude in rendering them in normal,
everyday settings was more realistic than his contemporaries. It indicates his artistic ability in

Impact Of William Penn On Religious Freedom
William Penn s Influence on Religious Freedom
In March of 1681, William Penn was given the ownership of a large piece of land which we
today call Pennsylvania (Document A). As a teenager in the 1660s, Penn was kicked out of
Oxford for expressing his religious views and not attending the religious services that were
required. He then joined a radical religious group known as the Quakers who were persecuted in
England Only 13 years before he was granted Pennsylvania, Penn was held captive for his religious
beliefs and the King requested that Penn publicly deny his beliefs. William Penn, the founder of
Pennsylvania, established a colony based on the idea of religious liberty, equality, and self
government which served as the foundation of America s constitutional rights in a secular
government wherein all citizens have the rights to freely practice their religious beliefs; these ideas
still impact the government s inaction concerning citizens religious practices.
William Penn believed that the key principle of religious toleration was respecting religious liberties
and promoting peace. Penn believed that respecting these individual liberties would produce
economic prosperity and construct a strong government controlled by the people. Penn places these
ideas into real world practice by establishing the colony of Pennsylvania, and by making religious
tolerance not only a law but a key tenet in his colonial constitution. Penn recruited adventurers and
prosperous supporters

3). Airport design has always been an important part of any renovation project or new
construction, yet even more light has been shed on this part of the process as the A380 and
future models will require larger gates, bigger hangers and improved baggage collection and
passenger transport services. Yeaman states that due to the aircraft s high passenger volume...gate
hold rooms may have to double in size, concourses need to be widened and capacity of ticket
processing and customs areas may need to be expanded (2001, p. 4).
Taxiway and apron separations may be one of the biggest challenges large airports are going to
face when analyzing how to accommodate the new large aircraft. Due to the lack of space that
most airports already suffer from to expand, the NLA s wingspan will require even more room

airports that currently serve the B747 400s, however, as its wingspan is close to 262 feet, the

Paul Fleischman s When This Cruel War Is Over
Themes are universal and can be shared within multiple items, text, motivation, etc. In the
historical novel, Bull Run, by Paul Fleischman, the Union song, When This Cruel War Is Over,
by Charles Carroll Sawyer, and the Confederate Song, God Save The South, by Earnest Halpin
and Charles W.A. Ellerbrock all share a common theme. War can inflict many different emotions
when thinking about war or being directly involved in a war. It doesn t matter if the emotions or
shared within a society or only kept to themselves, people still experience this. When war is
present in one s mind, sadness can be one of the first emotion that can be felt. In Bull Run, two
characters can easily show this to us. Lily Malloy, a Minnesota girl whose brother ran away to join
the Civil War and Colonel Oliver... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this in mind, a not so shared emotion when it comes to war is pride. People often associate
bad emotions like anger and hate with wars, but there can be some good emotions like happy or
hope. Pride is can be positive and negative. Anyways, Bull Run illustrates the fact that war can be
associated with war. In Flora Wheelworth s chapter, her daughter Susannah sent of her husband
by yelling (Fleschman 10), Do try not to soil the coat! In this phrase, there was no signs of worry.
Instead, she was proud that her husband was fighting in the war because she believed that her
husband will win. Addition to this, in A.B. Tilbury s chapters, there was a chapter where A.B.
Tilbury s regiment was slacking off and not taking anything seriously. Some soldiers in his regiment
were chasing chickens! When someone has a lot of pride, they tend to underestimate their enemy
and act over confident like A.B. s regiment right now. When there is too much pride, this emotion
turns into a bad thing like this case, but when there is the right amount of pride, people can go

Paul used to love to listen to the radio and was very influenced by his dad who played in a little

The Photographer Into Afghanistan With Doctors Without...
In The Photographer Into War Torn Afghanistan with Doctors Without Borders, one of the themes
evident within the book is the difference between the stereotypes of Afghan people and who they
actually are. The photographer, Didier Lefevre, is fueled by, a profound respect and love for the
people of Afghanistan, and a belief in the importance of their work ( Lefevre x). The importance in
that work was to show humanity in the faces the media portrays as terrorists. The media also
portrays Afghanis for being uneducated, sheltered, and driven by religion. Throughout the book
there are examples of Afghans that deserve empathy, but one page stood out from the rest: page
176. It displays Bassir Khan s businessmen and bodyguard sitting unamused in the first panel, with
the follow up panels of them leaving Didier in the room. The first panel in specific represents
both the humanitarian and sheltered themes of the book. What is most interesting about the first
panel, is the image itself confirms racial ambiguities. The men shown are of darker complexions,
which is perceived as being inferior to whites. On top of that, it confirms that non whites are
violent, as one of the men are holding a gun. They are all men, wearing turbans and hats and worn
down jackets. Peering at the first panel makes readers think Lefevre failed his mission to humanize
Afghanis, but a closer look at the narrator s block tells another story.

Memory Essay
Memory is defined as the persistence of learning over time through the storage and retrieval of
information. Our memory can be compared to a computer s information processing system. To
remember an event we need to get information into our brain which is encoding, store the
information and then be able to retrieve it. The three stage processing model of Richard Atkinson
and Richard Shiffrin suggests that we record information that we want to remember first as a
fleeting sensory memoryand then it is processed into a short term memory bin where we encode it
( pay attention to encode important or novel stimuli) for long term memory and later retrieval. The
premise for the three step process is that we are unable to focus on too much... Show more content

The amount remembered depends on the time spent learning. Even after we learn material/names,
additional rehearsal increases retention. For novel verbal information, practice effortful processing
does indeed improve our memory. We also retain information better when our rehearsal is
distributed over a period of time, known as spacing effect. People who have experienced serial
position effect strengthen the benefits of rehearsal. When shown a list of words/names and then
immediately asked to recall the items in any order, they struggle to recall the list. They remember
of the first and last words/names better than those in the middle. This is probably due to the fact
that the last names/ items are still in short term memory; people briefly recall them especially
quickly and well. But after a delay, after they shift their attention from the last names/items their
recall is best for the first names/items. We must remember that our memory system processes
information not just by repetitive rehearsal but also by encoding its significant features.
Strategies and devices that help us remember information that requires effortful processing are:
encoding its meaning, visualizing, and mentally organizing the

Replacing or suspending the new innovations that scientists are making or have made in the past

herself or validate her offenders; she had no help from law enforcement, adults around her, and
there was nothing or no one she could go to with the abuse which made her bullies invincible

monitor their affiliate accounts very closely and perform due diligence. It s not that I don t trust
HubPages for residual online income, but I m no babe in the woods, either. It wouldn t surprise
me if HubPages were tilting the 40% in its favor during peak traffic times, etc. Rest assured that
I will scrutinize HubPages and its impression splits on my own accounts. When it comes to
residual online income, I confess to having a bit of a negative attitude toward HubPages. Yet I
knew from the beginning that I didn t understand why. Perhaps it was hearing the sob story about
my friend making zero money on her hubs, of which there are only four. Maybe it was reading
somewhere that HubPages recently got a Google smackdown and then noticing that the site
registered a lower PR (Google PageRank) than before. Or possibly it was the daunting, unfamiliar
territory of impression splitting and affiliate links: the comparatively byzantine approach to
generating money that the site doesn t directly pay. Whatever the reason, I must admit I never gave
HubPages a fighting chance. Recently, I ve done a bit

London Dockland Case Study
For places both rural and urban to maintain development and a strong economy they must rebrand.
To keep with the times so to speak place must continue to redevelop in a number of ways. Both
areas are at risk of becoming derelict and poverty struck if they don t regenerate.
One of the main causes of decline is a lack of employment. In many areas with one ruling
industry when the industry collapses the town is left with high levels of unemployment. As
countries continue to develop their primary and secondary sectors shrink as it becomes cheaper
for TNC s to outsource work to other cheaper countries. This among other reasons can leave
towns and cities in decline as there are no longer jobs available and people have to move away for
work or stay unemployed which has bad economic effects.
An example of this happening in an urban area is the London Docklands. In the 19th century it
was the busiest port in the world however by the 1960 s bigger boats were being used and the
docks weren t deep enough for this. The docks were closed leaving lots of derelict land, few jobs
and lots of social problems. However the docklands were successfully rebranded with the
introduction of the LDDC. In 1981, the London Docklands Development Corporation set about
regenerating London Docklands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The decline in agriculture in the UK has reduced employment and caused economic problems in
rural areas. The lack of job opportunities results in out migration of young people, resulting in an
ageing population. Eventually a spiral of decline happens as problems breed problems rebranding
is needed to break this. Attracting new business and tourists through rebranding will increase
employment and services. This will then encourage young people to stay in the area, and new
people to move to the area. In rural areas for the most part there won t be any flagship projects and
community projects and council initiatives will be the main source of

Life Is A Happy Life
I understand why many Americans are not happy with where they are in life. Sometimes I wish
that things were different, almost everyone does. Though I wish things were different in some
respects, I do not beat myself up about it. My mother grew up in a big family with no money and
a lack of initiative for education. She saw what she wanted to do and left the small town in
Michigan, now she s one of the most well published and decorated Physician Assistants in the
world. Though she wishes she had become a doctor or lived in a different place, she always
relates her life to that of per patients. I have adopted this philosophy and whenever something
goes wrong, I tell myself You ve got food on the table, and you don t have Hodgkin s Disease. .
Knowing that I have more than six months to live and I have something to eat, are just two of
the major things that make life seem a lot better. I have a few problems with this misconception.
No, I do not think that having a life so packed and busy that there is a lack of time for activity is a
way to find happiness. However, I also negate that having a leisurely life without purpose leads to
a happy life. I agree that sometimes people take too much on. I have been a victim of this. I tried
to take on school, a career as a professional cyclist, and an academic club, all at the same time. Over
time, each commitment became a chore, and each glass became half full. I believe that committing
ourselves to things and making those things

The American Indians And The American Indian Movement
The American Indian Movement was started by Americans Indians who were frustrated with
being controlled by Americans on the land that was once theirs. The American Indian protesters
did not want to give up their land, lose their language, or their ability to live their lives as
American Indians. As a result, the Oglala Lakota tribal group took control over the town of
Wounded Knee to protest elected tribal head Dick Wilson. The people of the Pine Ridge
Reservation wanted to get rid of Dick Wilson, due to the high levels of poverty and poor living
conditions. The American Indian Movement also consisted of American Indians who were
frustrated with being harassed by the police. In addition, American Indian Movement also acted on

Spastic Cerebral Palsy
Spastic cerebral palsy is a neurological disorder that unfolds in the developing brain either right
before birth or shortly after, typically before the child turns one year of age. Head injuries that
occur several weeks after birth may also cause spastic cerebral palsy. Spastic cerebral palsy makes
up roughly eighty percent of all cerebral palsycases, since there are other types; spastic is
considered to be the most common. Spastic cerebral palsy causes neuromuscular mobility
impairment meaning that there is a lack in connection between the nerves and muscles. The two
parts of the brain affected by spastic cerebral palsy are the cerebral motor cortex and the white
matter. The cerebral motor cortex is responsible for movement, hearing, speech, thinking, visual
processing etc. Therefore if the cerebral motor cortex is damaged then all those previously listed
may be affected. White matter is responsible for transmitting signals to the body, consequently if it
is damaged, nervesignals are interrupted. (Common Parts of the Brain Affected by Cerebral Palsy.)
Spastic cerebral palsy carries many symptoms which include musclespasticity/stiffness, joint
contracture, paralysis, seizures, dysarthria, difficulty eating/swallowing, drooling, irregular
breathing (respiratory problems), unsteady gait, learning disabilities, hearing/eyesight problems,
slower growth than average, scoliosis, bowel problems, or urinary incontinence. (Centers for

Advanced Medical Technology Corporation Essay

Advanced Medical Technology Corporation
Early in April 1986, Tom Winter, vice president and loan officer of the Western National Bank of
San Francisco, California, was reviewing a loan request for $8 million from Peter Haskins,
president of Advanced Medical Technology Corporation. Advanced Medical Technology
Corporation (AMT) developed, manufactured, and sold scientific medical instruments, needles and
catheters that allowed rapid and less invasive access to a number of different organs and vessels.
These products represented an alternative to traditional surgical procedures and allowed analysis or
corrective treatment with less risk and trauma and at lower cost. An example of ... Show more

Haskins brought to the bank. Mr. Haskins was thoroughly dissatisfied with the company s current
loan arrangement with the Sunnyvale Bank, from which it had a credit line of $6 million with
accounts receivable and inventory pledged as security. He thought that Mr. Flint, the loan officer
at Sunnyvale, made no effort to understand the company, and was constantly making suggestions
that seemed inappropriate. He routinely visited AMT once every six months. While the visits
were cordial, they were of very little value to Mr. Haskins. Furthermore, Mr. Haskins felt that the
bank had been quite arbitrary in selecting the receivables that it would accept as collateral and in
setting the percentage of inventory that it would advance as a loan. The restrictive attitude on the
bank s part was limiting the company s ability to expand at exactly the time that increased volume
seemed to be the key to profitability. Mr. Haskins was perfectly willing to pledge the company s
accounts receivable, inventory or anything else that the bank thought would be desirable security as
long as the arrangement was fair to the company and specific enough so that he could count on
having the funds available when he needed them. Mr. Winter explained that the bank was always
interested in sound loan proposals from companies that showed the promise of developing into
good accounts. He promised to study the request and said that he hoped to visit the company in the
near future.

Ligament And Meniscal Injuries On The Knee
ABSTRACT
Ligament and meniscal injuries are traumatic injuries in the knee. Ligaments are fibrous
connective tissue that connect the bone to the cartilage and it also holds a joint together. The ACL
is the ligament that gets injured the most due to where it is sited in the knee. When ligament or
meniscus injury occurs, the client will experience pain and good possibility of instability of the
joint. What will the client feel when injury occurs? When do most injuries occur? What surgical
management will be needed? Some injuries are more severe than others and therefore an X Ray
will be taken to rule out arthritis or possible broken knee cap, MRI will be ordered by physician to
determine if there is a tear. NSAIDs may be recommended for ... Show more content on

DIAGNOSITICS/ LABS
Many times, the physician will move the joint around and may have client preform range of
motion to help analyze signs and symptoms. The physician will determine whether what testing
would be best to get accurate diagnosis. An X ray may be ordered to determine if there is any
other difficulty with joint that may have same symptoms as ligament and meniscal injury. An MRI
is more precise to determine if there is any further injury to ligament or menisci. Another test that
may be done is arthroscopy. This is used to see inside the knee and can be used help trim or repair
the injury/tear.
Medical/Surgical Managment1
Treatments for ligament and meniscus injuries vary due to degree of the injury. The physician or
specialist will have client stay off affected joint. As stated in Medical Surgical Nursing on page
1075, NSAIDs will be recommended by physician along with ice therapy to the joint during the
first 2 days of injury. After the knee has rested the client may slowly become active, however,
client needs not to overwork the ligament or meniscus as it may cause more injury, increasing the
healing time. If the client is needing surgical repair, the client with a torn meniscus will have to
undergo a procedure to have damaged cartilage removed or repair the injured the ligaments. After

Oklahoma Abortion Debate
Why the Oklahoma Abortion Bill is Unethical
Women, for centuries, have not been allowed to make decisions regarding their bodies. Finally,
when the end of the fight is within reach, steps backward are taken. Oklahoma recently passed a
bill requiring the father to approve an abortion procedure, the only time that the father s permission
is not required is in rape cases, and fetuses that have been diagnosed with down syndrome cannot be
aborted. When asked about the bill, Oklahoma Rep. Justin Humphrey stated:
I believe one of the breakdowns in our society is that we have excluded the man out of all of these
types of decisions, I understand that they feel like that is their body, I feel like it is a separate what

76% of the turnaways ended up on unemployment benefits, as opposed to the 44% of women who
had abortions. ( Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health , 2014) The same study found
that women unable to obtain abortions were more likely to stay in a relationship with an abusive
partner than women who had an abortion, and were more than twice as likely to become victims of
domestic violence (Annalee Newitz). Turning away women that cannot get their husbands or
boyfriends to give their approval for a safe abortion is unfair in every aspect.
A woman could do everything in her power to not get pregnant and still end up with a child, but
there are not many preventative matters on the guy s end. The Oklahoma Abortion Bill was put into
place because they wanted to bring men back into the decision making
Two committees were paying close attention to the study, and they realized that a lot of guys were
dropping out because they were experiencing side effects. The most common side effect was acne,
and sometimes that acne was pretty severe. Some men also developed mood swings and in some
cases those mood swings got pretty bad. One man developed severe depression, and another tried to
commit suicide. Because of that, they cut the study short (NPR

Philosophy Of John Taylor Gatto On American Tutoring
From John Taylor Gatto s perspectives, he trusts that the remaining in the American tutoring
framework for so long has provided him with each motivation to allude to it as an infantile
program. He assumes he can draw out the best qualities in kids by giving them self governance to
settle on choices and set aside hazards from opportunity to time, as opposed to restricting them to
tutoring. As indicated by him, individuals may see the key issue of tutoring as weariness which he
contends as an issue as well as be the question, Do we truly require tutoring? To elucidate his point,
Gatto declares having training is not equivalent to taking tutoring which is rather considered as an
every day routine in a processing plant of whimsicalness to ensure

Dionysus and the Unraveling of Ideologies in The Bacchae
Dionysus and the Unraveling of Ideologies in The Bacchae
Some evaluations claim that the Dionysus appearing in The Bacchae is fairly true embodiment of
the ideals of ancient Athens. He demands only worship and proper reverence for his name, two
matters of honor that pervaded both the Greek tragedies and the pious society that viewed them. In
other plays, Oedipus consultations with Apollo and the many Choral appeals to Zeus reveal the
Athenian respect for their gods, while Electra s need for revenge and Antigone s obligation to bury
Polyneices both epitomize the themes of respect and dignity. Yet although Dionysuspersonifies
these two motifs, his clashes with the rest of Athenian tradition seem to make him its true adversary.

The Chorus first alludes to the traditional place of Athenian women with the statement, driven
from shuttle and loom, / possessed by Dionysus! (118 199), and Pentheus later employs the same
motif when threatening, I shall have them sold as slaves or put to work / at my looms (513 514).
Such a deliberate analogy amidst the clash of divine and earthly power seems to highlight the
woman s domesticated place and to call attention to her role as a pawn in the struggle between the
king and the god. Though women were almost excluded from Athenian public life and women s
presence in male company [was] surrounded by many taboos in Athenian culture, the frenzied
Bacchae serve a necessary and conspicuous function in this drama.
Women in The Bacchae not only leave their traditional place within the home but are thrust into a
promiscuous position that contrasts sharply with the usual characterization, [of] submissiveness
and modesty. The proper conduct of a Greek woman can be seen in another of Euripides dramas,
Iphigenia at Aulis, where the blameless wife is portrayed as chaste with regard to sexual matters.
Certainly the indulgences of the woodland orgies break from such secluded and silent positions of
respectable Athenian women, a challenge to traditional

The Water Quality Of Freshwater Systems
Introduction The goal of this lab is to test the water quality of freshwater systems around the
Roxana area to determine if the local petroleum plant is causing a decrease in water purity.
Literature review To believe that human development has not increased our impact on the
world we live in is a blind mans assumption. In fact, scientists are able to detect even the
incredibly small actions we have on the world around us (National Geographic Freshwater 101:
Pollution). New technology allows us to see that our pollution is causing a great deal of
damage, especially in aquatic ecosystems. Freshwater ecosystems are often the receiving end of
our pollution because they are abundant and water will quickly wash our byproducts away.
However, to say these byproducts do not affect other locations is false. Often times, runoff of
human sewage and waste will find its way to freshwater ecosystems and harm the wildlife that
resides there. Even humans can feel the affects of our own waste. Pollution is just as likely to
work its way into our drinking water as it is a nearby pond. And in some parts of the world, there
are no regulations to make sure that people are not consuming this tainted water (National
Geographic Freshwater 101: Pollution). There are many ways pollutants can harm an ecosystem,
but how they actually harm it is an unknown to many people. In a freshwater ecosystem, the pH
level of the water can greatly affect living organisms within the ecosystem. There

Film Analysis and Writing The Third Man was filmed in post World War II Vienna, published in
1949. The film was directed by Carol Reed, written by Graham Greene, and produced by the
American David Selznick. The black and white, negative film is one of the prominent British
thrillers of the post war period, in the best Alfred Hitchcock tradition, (Tim Dirks, FilmsiteReview).

However, the overall message the producers gave in the film was a significant knowledge to
fundamental truths and belief in post world war period. The setting, characterization, and
conflict describes the lack of confidence and deception in people, the lack of morality, the lack of
connection, lastly the lack of love for humanity. Holly found that his friend was a dishonest con
artist; his lover did not love him, and was still in shambles without a job. Similar to the worlds
view pessimistic view on government, life, and world issues. Holly twisted around and chooses
to be a good person but violates the morality of association by betraying his friend and killing
him. Just when Limes has hoped to get away, his life ends. The story begins again with the same
scene, a funeral. An essential element to seeing the hope that faded away, a simple disregard for
the value of human life. When analyzing the film and history, a common theme and facts of the
post war era are revealed in The Third Man. References

Research Paper On The Titanic s Maiden Voyage
The Titanic s maiden voyage was a disaster because of the way the ship was designed. California

Phil Price s Redeployment
As the United States military drastically shifted from conventional to modern warfare, the public s
perception of the soldier s homecoming equally changed. The antique notion that a soldier is the
ultimate representation of heroism and bravery was deemed ignorant and inconsiderate. In the
status quo, science has determined disorders such as post traumatic stress to explain many soldiers
failed reintegration into their society at home. Phil Klay s Redeployment is a contemporary short
story that follows Sgt. Price, a soldierfrom the Iraq War, as he struggles to find his place at home
with the constant reminders of the battlefield. Upon his sudden, unmemorable redeployment to the

Price serves as the epitome for war s impact on its troops as they continue to live the life of a
soldier even after they leave the battlegrounds. Upon his arrival home, Sgt. Price feels great pity
for Vicar, especially since his age and deteriorating health has brought great suffering on the dog.
As he decides to end the dog s pain, however, he specifically mentions that he was trained to
focus on the iron sights, not the target, since it should be blurry (20). Temporarily, Sgt. Price
exits the reality that is his hometown and is redeployed into the war, a zone in which he
ironically feels comfort and safety because of his extensive training and familiarity. The
emotional connection he has with Vicar is terminated as the dog is nothing but a target in the
soldier s eyes. Similarly, Sgt. Price describes how he shot dogs [...] on purpose and on instinct
(9). His training has made him accustomed to killing enemy soldiers, described as dogs , as so
far that his description matches that of a robot. He no longer thinks of the actions he takes in
war since his training and experience make him accustomed to an environment of violence and
death. When Sgt. Price finally pulls the trigger, he becomes motionless as he stares at the sights
and a blur of grey and black , barely remembering what [he] was going to do with the body (21).
Had Sgt. Price been reintegrated into society, his first thought after firing would have been great
sorrow for his dog s death. Yet, Vicar becomes a vague figment and object; his recollection of the
event is vague and unmemorable, just as he would have wanted his experience in war to

  • 3. This Film is Not Yet Rated is a Documentary Directed by... This Film is Not Yet Rated is a documentary directed by Kirby Dick, and produced by Eddie Schmidt about the Motion Picture Association of America (or the MPAA) and their often unjust rules in rating movies. The MPAA s rating system is as follows: G and PG are the same as they are in Australia, M is called PG 13 in America, MA15+ is R, and R18+ is NC 17, the latter being the strongest rating. The difference between an R movie and an NC 17 movie can be as wide as hundreds of millions of dollars, and is factored by disparities between Hollywood and indie filmmakers, straight and gay sex, male and female sexual depictions and violent and sexual content. Little is known about the production process of This Film Is Not Yet Rated, other than it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An unrated cut was made in response to the NC 17 rating, which prevented the documentary from being publicly screened without review. Dick originally planned to get permission from the studios to use their clips from NC 17 rated films, but he discovered that studio licensing agreements would have prohibited him from using the clips to criticize the MPAA. This prompted Dick to use the clips under the fair use doctrine, which allows copyrighted clips to be used for criticism, and lead to greater interest among documentary filmmakers in fair use as a result. This Film Is Not Yet Ratedpremiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, and was given a standing ovation and subsequently received positive reviews from critics. It has an 84% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 117 reviews and a score of 75/100 on Metacritic based on 33 reviews, indicating Generally favourable reviews . Critics praised the revelations surrounding the MPAA, as well as its humour. Some critics were less receptive, calling it smug and criticised the documentary for its unbalanced viewpoint and a supposed lack of research. The documentary continued to draw crowds at many more festivals, including South by Screenwest and the Seattle International Film Festival, and went into theatrical release in select theatres on September ... • 4. American Indians Totemic Beliefs To discover the basis of elementary religion, we must further dig into the totemic beliefs people once had to get to the point where we are today. However, to understand how our society was constructed. Australian tribes were generally the ones to believe in totemic but, they were not originally the first to find totemic beliefs. One of the first people to discover totemwere the North American Indians. In fact, the civilization was more advanced in Indian tribes than of Australian cults. The technology has become more developed, the people live in houses or tents and there are even fortified villages. The social density is greater, and centralization, which is altogether absent in Australia. (Durkheim 93). The reason why North American Indians... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These classifications are indeed the first that we meet in history. We just saw that they are modeled on social organization, or rather that they have taken the actual framework of society as their own. It was the phratries that served as genera and the clans as species. It is because men formed groups that they were able to group things: All they did was make room for things they themselves already formed. And if these various classes of things were not simply juxtaposed to one another but arranged instead of according to a unified plan, that is because the same social groups to which they are assimilated are themselves unified and, through that union, form an organic whole: the tribe. The unity of these first logical systems merely reproduces that of society . (145) These tribes of men have constructed the idea of social organization and genus in history, because this, it is the first time social construction is introduced when we consider tribes and cults that believed in totems mainly in Australia. I also know that they have been forced to move from their land and have had to fight to keep the reservations that they currently reside on. • 6. The Suez Crisis and Sir Antony Eden The Suez Crisis is often cited by some historians as one of the worst historical decisions that imprinted an indelible mark on the then British premier Sir Antony Eden. More often than not the decision by Eden to invade Egypt following a disagreement about nationalization of the Suez Canal is often cited as a the worst foreign policy decision that destroyed Eden political career and humiliated British empirein its wake. The decision by Eden to use military force against Nasser is often viewed by many as arising from a personal grudge towards Nasser, while only a few defend the fact that Eden had attempted to resolve the looming conflict peacefully. A Brief Introduction about Sir Robert Antony Eden It is unfortunate that despite Sir Antony Eden having successfully served as Britain for three decades as a foreign secretary and his subsequent rise to become the British prime minister in 1955 was overshadowed by the 1956 Suez Crisis that saw him tender his resignation after serving approximately 18 months in office. While justifying this action, Eden cited that he was protecting British commercial interests of which the recent nationalization of the Suez Canal by Nasser seemed to threaten. Eden strongly perceived Nasser as a dictator and that his actions could easily be replicated with the actions of Hitler and Mussolini that subsequently ignited World War. Born to a baronet in County Durham on 12 June 1987, Antony Eden was educated at Eton and oxford where he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Those with autism are highly sensitive to sight, sound, as well as touch and this can make it difficult for individuals on the spectrum to function within an enclosed space. Finding the right balance is key when designing an autistic friendly space, as autistic individuals can have a strong aversion to change. Having too flexible of an environment can invoke fear if the environment is always changing. The hum of fluorescent lighting, the sound of an air conditioning or heating unit, the sound of someone eating, footsteps, or even hearing multiple forms of sound at once can be maddening, distracting, and can even cause pain. Many autistic individuals suffer from headaches and can become agitated when they are inundated with multiple forms of sound. 4.Provide withdrawal, or isolation, spaces where one can go to re center when they have become over stimulated and overwhelmed. • 9. Application Of Nikola Tesla s Alternating Current... A notable application of Nikola Tesla s Alternating Current induction motor is the Electric Vehicle (EV). EVs are powered by an electric motor rather than a conventional gasoline engine. It is important to make the distinction between an EV and a hybrid, plug in hybrid, or hydrogen fuel cell car. For our analysis, an EV is a vehicle that is completely driven by an electric motor, which is powered by a large battery, such as the BMW i3 and the Tesla Model S. Although EVs have been available since the 1890s, when EVs outsold gasoline powered cars ten to one [1], they have become more relevant in the past decade as greenhouse gas emissions reach all time highs. In fact, atmospheric CO2 (the primary greenhouse gas emitted from combustion) concentration as of September 2015 was 397.64 ppm [2]. To put this figure into perspective, consider that in the past 400 thousand years (excluding the last century) CO2 concentration did not surpass 300 ppm [3]. The increase in atmospheric CO2 can be correlated to an increase in the average global temperature. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) the increase in greenhouse gases collectively over the past two centuries has led to a temperature increase of 0.85в—¦C [4]. Although some may claim that the effect of the rise of CO2 concentration levels on average temperature is exaggerated, it is generally accepted that increases in atmospheric CO2 lead to higher temperatures. The principles calling for equal rights and political democracy of the people in America were in contradiction with the principles the US was initially against. American colonists began to view the vast expanse of lands controlled by Indians as desirable and could now use Indians in a new way: to acquire land for development . As the rapidly growing United Statesbegan to move towards the South in the early nineteenth century, white settlers were confronted by the Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw and Seminole nations, which became an obstacle in the way of their plight to acquire land to grow cotton and crops. Accordingly, the question, What is the best explanation for why President Andrew Jacksonand the United States continued with Indian removal even after the court deemed the forced removal of and interference in the affairs of sovereign nations unconstitutional? is viable because it analyzes and examines the arguments and describes the principles the US relied on and practiced as one description and assessment of Jacksonian Democracy and thus explains why they were able to continue with Indian Removal. Indian removal was maintained because of the varying points of view between the three parties: President Jackson (Pro Removal), the Supreme Court and the Indians. This transformed into a quarrel between the President Jackson and the Supreme Court while the Indians and their views were completely and utterly disregarded. The varying points of view brought up contradictions and created tensions that ultimately created a window for Indian Removal. Greed for Land and Power Many Americans advocated Indian removal because of their greedy intentions for power and land. The US took control of Indian land through treaties. At first, these treaties were to maintain peace. However, as time went on, the US started taking advantage of the Indians generosity and their greed got worse. Before, it was just a ... Argumentative Essay On Mascots Currently in the NFL, the Washington Redskins are being faced with a staggering controversy: Should they change they change their mascot as a result of Native Americans viewing it is a racial discriminatory (Angle 2016)? Dating back to 1933, when the Washington NFL team abandoned the original title of Braves and adopted Redskins, the debate has since been longstanding (Hylton 2014). Native Americans are challenging the team to rid them, along with all team mascot names relating to their culture countrywide, of their title, but the mascot names have no negative connotation and should not be protested against. The controversy relates back to the 1900s when Native Americans began to feel oppressed and teams began using their titles as mascot (Brady 2016). According to The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, He [Epicurus] claimed to be self taught, although tradition states that he was schooled in the systems of Plato and Democritus by his father and various philosophers (Columbia). These prior philosophers heavily influenced the ideals that Epicurus would popularize later on in life. The ideals of Epicurus went on to be known as Epicureanism, which essentially was a school of thought that recognized pleasure as the greatest virtue (James). In fact in the World State, self habituation is so idealized that even young children are encouraged to satisfy themselves sexually as they please. This is made evident in chapter 3, where the children are observed taking part in a rudimentary sexual game (Huxley 32). Aside from physical habituation, mental satisfaction is heavy practiced as individuals in the world state consume soma, a drug that elicits utter bliss, in any occasion of mental stress. The quote Was and will make me ill, I take a gramme and only am (Huxley 111) exemplifies the extent to which citizens of the World State avoid troublesome thought and instead turn to soma because it is pleasurable. As some of the most well thinkers of the day continued with passion about physics, their self confident in peeling the layers of the proverbial scientific onion led to severe unintended consequences that dramatically impacted the lives of billions of people. Moreover, complacency fuelled by arrogance resulted in the betrayal of compassion and principled action, ultimately leading to the sacrifice of millions to pay the debt of a few. Atomic energy re invigorated technological and scientific purpose of the early 20th century. Augmenting knowledge through scientific inquiry motivated researchers and academics to collaborate in labs and conferences in developing an emerging field. As discoveries dotted the path to scientific self indulgence, the purported results of the research which was often purely coincidental, was promoted as yielding untold benefits to society. Medicine would be radically transformed and the scarcity of energy to fuel engines of economic growth would be a thing of the past (De Groot, Steg Poortinga, 2013). With current air craft size reaching unknown proportions to humankind, airports that are interested in attracting future business as well as the revenue the large amount of passengers per flight may generate, will have to adapt their installations to the demanding needs of these supersized vehicles. The following paper will focus on the new Airbus A380and the requirements that airports inviting this magnificent work of engineering to use their installations will need to meet. Airport design has always been an important part of any renovation project or new construction, yet even more light has been shed on this part of the process as the A380 and future models will require larger gates, bigger hangers and improved baggage collection and passenger transport services. Yeaman states that due to the aircraft s high passenger volume...gate hold rooms may have to double in size, concourses need to be widened and capacity of ticket processing and customs areas may need to be expanded (2001, p. 4). Taxiway and apron separations may be one of the biggest challenges large airports are going to face when analyzing how to accommodate the new large aircraft. Due to the lack of space that most airports already suffer from to expand, the NLA s wingspan will require even more room to maneuver. Mollman describes how Airbus A380 model will be able to operate at most airports that currently serve the B747 400s, however, as its wingspan is close to 262 feet, the A380 is the first aircraft in Federal Aviation Administration to demand a Design Group VI (2001, p.6). It doesn t matter if the emotions or shared within a society or only kept to themselves, people still experience this. In Flora Wheelworth s chapter, her daughter Susannah sent of her husband by yelling (Fleschman 10), Do try not to soil the coat! In this phrase, there was no signs of worry. Instead, she was proud that her husband was fighting in the war because she believed that her husband will win. Addition to this, in A.B. Tilbury s chapters, there was a chapter where A.B. Tilbury s regiment was slacking off and not taking anything seriously. Some soldiers in his regiment were chasing chickens! In The Photographer Into War Torn Afghanistan with Doctors Without Borders, one of the themes evident within the book is the difference between the stereotypes of Afghan people and who they actually are. The photographer, Didier Lefevre, is fueled by, a profound respect and love for the people of Afghanistan, and a belief in the importance of their work ( Lefevre x). The importance in that work was to show humanity in the faces the media portrays as terrorists. The media also portrays Afghanis for being uneducated, sheltered, and driven by religion. Throughout the book there are examples of Afghans that deserve empathy, but one page stood out from the rest: page 176. It displays Bassir Khan s businessmen and bodyguard sitting unamused in the first panel, with the follow up panels of them leaving Didier in the room. The first panel in specific represents both the humanitarian and sheltered themes of the book. What is most interesting about the first panel, is the image itself confirms racial ambiguities. The men shown are of darker complexions, which is perceived as being inferior to whites. On top of that, it confirms that non whites are violent, as one of the men are holding a gun. They are all men, wearing turbans and hats and worn down jackets. • 38. Memory Essay Memory is defined as the persistence of learning over time through the storage and retrieval of information. Our memory can be compared to a computer s information processing system. To remember an event we need to get information into our brain which is encoding, store the information and then be able to retrieve it. The three stage processing model of Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin suggests that we record information that we want to remember first as a fleeting sensory memoryand then it is processed into a short term memory bin where we encode it ( pay attention to encode important or novel stimuli) for long term memory and later retrieval. The premise for the three step process is that we are unable to focus on too much... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The amount remembered depends on the time spent learning. Even after we learn material/names, additional rehearsal increases retention. For novel verbal information, practice effortful processing does indeed improve our memory. We also retain information better when our rehearsal is distributed over a period of time, known as spacing effect. People who have experienced serial position effect strengthen the benefits of rehearsal. When shown a list of words/names and then immediately asked to recall the items in any order, they struggle to recall the list. They remember of the first and last words/names better than those in the middle. This is probably due to the fact that the last names/ items are still in short term memory; people briefly recall them especially quickly and well. But after a delay, after they shift their attention from the last names/items their recall is best for the first names/items. We must remember that our memory system processes information not just by repetitive rehearsal but also by encoding its significant features. To keep with the times so to speak place must continue to redevelop in a number of ways. Both areas are at risk of becoming derelict and poverty struck if they don t regenerate. One of the main causes of decline is a lack of employment. In many areas with one ruling industry when the industry collapses the town is left with high levels of unemployment. As countries continue to develop their primary and secondary sectors shrink as it becomes cheaper for TNC s to outsource work to other cheaper countries. This among other reasons can leave towns and cities in decline as there are no longer jobs available and people have to move away for work or stay unemployed which has bad economic effects. An example of this happening in an urban area is the London Docklands. In the 19th century it was the busiest port in the world however by the 1960 s bigger boats were being used and the docks weren t deep enough for this. Dionysus and the Unraveling of Ideologies in The Bacchae Dionysus and the Unraveling of Ideologies in The Bacchae Some evaluations claim that the Dionysus appearing in The Bacchae is fairly true embodiment of the ideals of ancient Athens. He demands only worship and proper reverence for his name, two matters of honor that pervaded both the Greek tragedies and the pious society that viewed them. In other plays, Oedipus consultations with Apollo and the many Choral appeals to Zeus reveal the Athenian respect for their gods, while Electra s need for revenge and Antigone s obligation to bury Polyneices both epitomize the themes of respect and dignity. The Water Quality Of Freshwater Systems Introduction The goal of this lab is to test the water quality of freshwater systems around the Roxana area to determine if the local petroleum plant is causing a decrease in water purity. Literature review To believe that human development has not increased our impact on the world we live in is a blind mans assumption. In fact, scientists are able to detect even the incredibly small actions we have on the world around us (National Geographic Freshwater 101: Pollution). New technology allows us to see that our pollution is causing a great deal of damage, especially in aquatic ecosystems. Freshwater ecosystems are often the receiving end of our pollution because they are abundant and water will quickly wash our byproducts away. However, to say these byproducts do not affect other locations is false. Often times, runoff of human sewage and waste will find its way to freshwater ecosystems and harm the wildlife that resides there. Even humans can feel the affects of our own waste. Pollution is just as likely to work its way into our drinking water as it is a nearby pond. And in some parts of the world, there are no regulations to make sure that people are not consuming this tainted water (National Geographic Freshwater 101: Pollution). However, the overall message the producers gave in the film was a significant knowledge to fundamental truths and belief in post world war period. The setting, characterization, and conflict describes the lack of confidence and deception in people, the lack of morality, the lack of connection, lastly the lack of love for humanity. Holly found that his friend was a dishonest con artist; his lover did not love him, and was still in shambles without a job. Similar to the worlds view pessimistic view on government, life, and world issues. Holly twisted around and chooses to be a good person but violates the morality of association by betraying his friend and killing him. Just when Limes has hoped to get away, his life ends. The story begins again with the same scene, a funeral. An essential element to seeing the hope that faded away, a simple disregard for the value of human life. • 53. Research Paper On The Titanic s Maiden Voyage The Titanic s maiden voyage was a disaster because of the way the ship was designed. California didn t help them out when they we re stuck in the disaster. I feel like they should ve had a warning about the iceberg or something because for that many people to die because somebody didn t say anything is just sad. The people should ve spoken up. The man that was in charge of the ship should not have been sleep. If it was that deep he should ve told someone or should have switched with someone. There were over 1000 people on the ship and only a few survived because a man irresponsible fell asleep. Some examples of why The Titanic s maiden voyage was a disaster was because there were many people on the ship that we re in charge of a lot of responsible things and weren t. A man that was in charge of the ship in the front fell asleep without telling anyone or without switching up with anyone else. Another example of why it was a disaster was because the ship was going too fast and they didn t see it in enough time. • 54. Phil Price s Redeployment As the United States military drastically shifted from conventional to modern warfare, the public s perception of the soldier s homecoming equally changed. The antique notion that a soldier is the ultimate representation of heroism and bravery was deemed ignorant and inconsiderate. In the status quo, science has determined disorders such as post traumatic stress to explain many soldiers failed reintegration into their society at home. Phil Klay s Redeployment is a contemporary short story that follows Sgt. Price, a soldierfrom the Iraq War, as he struggles to find his place at home with the constant reminders of the battlefield. Upon his sudden, unmemorable redeployment to the U.S., Price remains shocked at the vast differences between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Price serves as the epitome for war s impact on its troops as they continue to live the life of a soldier even after they leave the battlegrounds. Upon his arrival home, Sgt. Price feels great pity for Vicar, especially since his age and deteriorating health has brought great suffering on the dog. As he decides to end the dog s pain, however, he specifically mentions that he was trained to focus on the iron sights, not the target, since it should be blurry (20). Temporarily, Sgt. Price exits the reality that is his hometown and is redeployed into the war, a zone in which he ironically feels comfort and safety because of his extensive training and familiarity. The emotional connection he has with Vicar is terminated as the dog is nothing but a target in the soldier s eyes. Similarly, Sgt. Price describes how he shot dogs [...] on purpose and on instinct (9). His training has made him accustomed to killing enemy soldiers, described as dogs , as so far that his description matches that of a robot. He no longer thinks of the actions he takes in war since his training and experience make him accustomed to an environment of violence and death. When Sgt. Price finally pulls the trigger, he becomes motionless as he stares at the sights and a blur of grey and black , barely remembering what [he] was going to do with the body (21). Had Sgt. Price been reintegrated into society, his first thought after firing would have been great sorrow for his dog s death. Yet, Vicar becomes a vague figment and object; his recollection of the event is vague and unmemorable, just as he would have wanted his experience in war to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
