Some of our ships were in Africa and were being attacked by a group of pirates called the Barbary
Pirates. marines would fight a great battle against them on the shores of Tripoli. later Marines would
fight in WWII and would be fighting in planes and these battles would be called dogfights. One pilot
was especially remembered for his squadron and he was Major Gregory Pappy Boyington whose
squadron would account for over 203 planes damaged or destroyed during WWII. Major Boyington
would later receive the Medal of Honor our nation s highest award. Later Marines would be fighting
in Vietnam and would fight in some of the bloodiest battles during the Tet Offensive. Marines would
fight house to house and building to building to clear out the Viet Cong who would literally split the
country in half with their attack during the celebration of Tet in Vietnam. These are just a few of the
stories that would solidify the Marine Corps ability and willingness to fight on land, sea, and in the air

Marines are often called another name for what they do, and from the beginning of the Cold War to
now the Marines have come to be known as America s 911 Force (Frakes, 2011). America has several

who have the distinct honor of guarding our embassies are none other than United States Marines.
This ensures that in a crisis Americans who are caught up in

Mise High Scene Analysis
3.3 Technique
Twin Peaks uses breaks of conventions of mise en scene frequently. In episode eight of season two,
several figures of the police force are lined up and the camera has a steady angle for minutes . Gordon
Cole walks from person to person, shaking their hands and thanking them for their great work. The
scene looks unnatural and the steady camera reinforces this impression. It looks like someone filmed a
boss from a company thanking his employees, which is what actually is happening: The director is
thanking his actors for good work. The scene is unnecessary for the plot and does not relate to
anything else during the story which is also an indicator that through the use of an unconventional
mise en scene, a scene which parallel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lester Nygaard is chased by the police on a snowmobile, which is a common scene in action movies
such as James Bond. The picture follows the conventions of mise en scene, showing the fast vehicles
and the tension in the faces of the characters with cuts from many different camera angles. According
to the rules of mise en scene, a fast and action packed music would be fitting for such a chase. In its
place though, the filmmakers used a slow, melancholic and cautious music. Sound and action are in
contrast and the rules of mise en scene, which Sergei Eisenstein called synchronization of sound (The
Film Sense 1974: 69), are again contradicted. So, Fargo works with contrasts of expected events due
to certain compositions of mise en scene while Twin Peaks over stylizes scenes and lets the director
himself explain techniques of how a picture is composed. With those different approaches, both series

North Carolina Geography
North Carolina
North Carolina is one state that is full of diversity. From it s warm sunny beaches to the east; to its
mountain ranges to the west, North Carolina has plenty to offer. Being one of the original thirteen
colonies, it also has a lot of rich history. It s seen Native Americans, many settlers, the American
Revolution, slavery, the Civil War, and much more.
North Carolina is a state with a variety of different climates and regions within its geography. This
state is located in the Southeast region of the United States, bordered by Virginia, Tennessee, South
Carolina, Georgia, and the Atlantic Ocean as well. The North Carolina s flat land that borders the

Before being ratified, North Carolina took major steps to become independent from England. First of
all, the first battle of the American Revolution, the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge, was fought in
North Carolina. and secondly, North Carolina was the first state to vote in favor, with its delegates, for
independence from the British crown. Years after the American Revolution, North Carolina became a
state in 1789. Though North Carolina had a lot of American Spirit then, during the times before the
Civil War, North Carolina was one of the eleven states to secede from the you Union and join the
Confederacy. Not many major battles were fought in North Carolina during the civil war, but North
Carolina did provide the most men including many generals, for the Confederate army. Towards the
end of the war, Confederate troops from North Carolina surrendered after many losses and casualties.
After the end of the war, North Carolina was readmitted to the Union and became a U.S. state once

Critical Analysis Of Mamela Nyamza
Mamela Nyamza is a South African contemporary dancer, choreographer and teacher. She is one of
the South African choreographers with a powerful voice and her works are performed internationally.
Mamela was born in 1976 in Gugulethu, Cape Town. A lot of her works rips into vulnerable base of
European culture and all the pretentious nuances it represents. In this essay I aim to discuss the
choreographic aesthetics and the treatment of the body in performance by making reference to specific
works, mainly Hatched and also Shift. Hatched was written in and debuted in 2008 at On Broadway,
the Out The Box Festival and Baxter Dance Festival. Her work called Shift was debuted in 2010.

The boundary between audience and performer was ruptured when a spectator sits next to Nyamza
and lights a cigarette for her, even when she dances haphazardly bumping and falling on audience
members. Just as Nyamza embodies the performer she falls back into the pedestrian informality
represented by the mom, as if she gives up on her dreams and accepts her reality and the
responsibilities as a mom. Her movements are dynamic as some works contain pieces which are less
physical while other pieces are extremely physically demanding. Her movement dynamic correlates

Ender s Game By Orson Scott Card
Rufus Mosley Intro to Business Professor: Weisberg Exam 2 1. Ender s Game by Orson Scott Card
was a tremendous book. Though it may not have been the most entertaining book out there, it
definitely had some good points in the storyline. The themes I noticed in the book were compassion
and tyranny, along with the role that children can play. The protagonist in the book is Ender Wiggins,
and the antagonist is Peter Wiggins. The personal meaning I took from this book is that it does not
matter your age on what you can achieve. Ender is just a young boy who leads and saves the world.
The book takes place in the future even though it was written in the 80 s. Ender is born into a family
of highly intelligent people. As a child he is hated by his brother, Peter, along with other schoolmates
and is protected by his sister, Valentine. He has to leave Valentine behind when he is taken away to
Battle School, which is located on a ship very far away from earth so he can assist in the fight against
the buggers. Ender shows off his extreme intelligence and is separated from the rest of the recruits by
Colonel Graff of the International Fleet. Ender then becomes friends with a recruit name Alai. This
aids Ender to make friends and fit in with people. Ender is noticed by the military commanders
because of his dominance in the mind game . He is promoted to the Salamander Army shortly after.
While in the Salamander Army, Ender becomes friends with the only girl, Petra Arkanian, but is

English philosopher, described the Panopticon, an institutional building designed to make the people
surveilled unable to know when they were observed. Years later, as forms of power changed and
transformed throughout time, the Panopticon becomes the perfect analogy for Michel Foucault to
explain the advent of a new form of dominance: Disciplinary power. This form of power, strictly
related to Foucault s theory of bio power, will later become key in the development of organizational
theory and understanding of modern management practices. Throughout the decades Foucault s
studies have been applied to society, from late 19th century Taylorism and scientific management
approach to modern days. Now, in the 21st century, his work is ever so actual with the implementation
of modern surveillance and modern forms of Panopticon.
Jeremy Bentham s idea of an edifice to surveil inmates without the them knowing became known as
the Panopticon. The concept was a circular shaped building, with an internal tower from where
managers or jailors could monitor the workers or prisoners without them

Chivalry
Chivalry is a concept that has baffled countless medieval historians throughout the years. Chivalry
was supposedly a code that knights and nobles lived their lives by, however, like other social
structures of the past historians have debated over the extent to which people lived according to
chivalric principles. Sir Walter Scott believed that chivalry was meant as a code which knights could
aspire, but not one that was carried out in reality. His description seems accurate. Chivalric principles
could not be borne out in real life. Froissart painted a romantic image of The Hundred Years War and
of the aristocracy at the time. Froissart is constantly full of praise for the chivalric lifestyle many of

It involved activities such as mock battles and jousting competitions. Writing about the Tournament at
Saint Inglevert Froissart claimed great occasion , where both French and English enjoyed themselves.
He claimed that both sides stated that there were no injuries. Very typically on this occasion, it seems
that Froissart s account was romanticised. The tournament was, according to Malcolm Vale baffling
because of the how artificial it was. However, contemporaries such as Henry VII believed that the
tournament gave men the chance to learn the exercise of the deeds of arms . The contemporary view
of tournaments, in general, is one of praise. They were seen as entertainment and quite possibly useful
too. Many contemporaries do seem to concur that the tournament was a useful exercise from a combat
point of view and there must be some truth to this. The tournament certainly would not have prepared
a knight for a full scale battle, but it would have thought them essential skills such as how to joust and
wield a sword. Either way, the tournament as described by Froissart was a part of the chivalric society,
although we may question his claim that nobody was injured during the tournament he wrote about. It
is fact that tournaments were great social occasions that were set up as methods of

Jeffrey Baker Hair Case Study
The Curious Case of Jeffrey Baker s Hair The more intently Jess stared at the back of Jeffrey Baker s
head, the more it started to resemble this particularly gruesome hairball Blue Bell, her cat, had
coughed up last spring. Blue Bell had gotten into the neighbour s garbage can and feasted on a mixture
of discarded floss, rotten fruit, and their dead pet mouse. The resulting hairball was the most revolting
thing Jess had ever seen, and she had to plug her nose as she cleaned up the mess. Blue Bell didn t
look too great after retching it up either. Jeffrey s hair was a ragged brown mess that clung to his head
like the hair in a shower drain, with just as much zeal. Jess wondered mildly if he owned a comb, or if
she should offer the one she carried in her purse. Still, she wondered what it would be like to have that
icky mop on her own head: What would it feel like? Would it have a ... Show more content on

immediately, as Jeffrey spun around. His hair slipped from her hand, and his face was a mix of
confusion and anger. Yeah, what the heck, Jess? Jeffrey demanded, his features muted into the deep
red his face was turning. Looking around, Jess realized everyone in the classroom had their heads
turned in her direction. She smiled grimly and tried her best to look innocent though this act was not

doctor are very self loathing and often question whether they re really the good guy. Another trait they
share is that they re not really the likable type. This trait only refers to some of the incarnations of the
doctor and applies most to Rick. Their similarities aside, they also have many differences. Such as
how the doctor reincarnates every couple season, due to him being an alien, and experiencing a

Jacob Lawrence s Migration Series And The Gullah Culture
Within the Gullah culture, the sensation of pain and suffering, movement, and history runs within the
veins of the Gullah people that essentially ties into Jacob Lawrence s Migration Series. The panel that
had a lot of meaning and significance behind the drawing was panel twelve that consisted of African
Americans leaving the south in trains with specific appointed guards in line to be able to keep order in
the train station. Within the panel, the sense of pain and suffering within the African American
drawings, is clearly portrayed and they are also compared to the Caucasian guards in the drawing in a
very significant way. When it comes to movement, the reason for why individuals had the tendency to
migrate ended up adding up to a much bigger result than just simple struggles. The history behind the
Jacob Lawrence s Migration Series and the Gullah culture is more than just a basic relation, on the
contrary they have an intensified connection that ties them together. Within Jacob Lawrence s twelfth
panel, pain and suffering plays an important part in the drawing. The caption for panel 12 states, The
railroad stations were at times so over packed with people leaving that special guards had to be called
to keep the order in the train station (Lawrence, 12). Jacob Lawrence drawing in panel 12 also holds
various meanings and inspirations behind the drawing. With the pain and suffering, the concept of
discrimination also ends up being portrayed in the drawing. In the panel,

TITLE
Self awareness and the locus of the self knowledge development: a comparison study to investigate
developmental sequences using semi structured self concept interviews.
ABSTRACT
This study examines the view that self awareness gradually develops with a shift from physical to
psychological characteristics whilst the locus of self knowledge progressively transfers from others to
the self. Previous research implementing semi structured self concept interviews to investigate self
descriptions amongst young children of various age groups supported these findings, underpinning the
theories of a gradual emergence and elaboration of the self as a subject and the self as an object of
knowledge. In the current study, a comparison ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rosenberg s (ibid) findings indicated that younger children tend to describe more physical activities
and characteristics whilst this gradually develops to include relationships and interpersonal traits,
eventually shifting to more inner qualities. Rosenberg (1979, as cited in: The Open University, 2010,
pp. 21 22) also found that the locus of self knowledge gradually shifted from a reliance on another
person as point of reference for judging themselves, towards the self.
This study intends to investigate, and confirm, the findings of Rosenberg (1979, as cited in: The Open
University, 2010, pp. 21 22) by analysing transcripts of semi structured interviews with two children
aged eight and sixteen. This was done within the meaning of investigating the development of the self
concept and the locus of self knowledge.
METHOD
Design
The study is a comparison of the self descriptions provided by two young people during one to one
semi structured self concept interviews.
Participants
Two participants participated in this study; an eight year old girl (Annie), and a sixteen year old boy
(Adam). They were recruited by The Open University course team who approached a primary and
secondary school in the Milton Keynes area (England), for volunteers whose parents signed the
relevant consent form. A number of volunteers were interviewed but only two of these interviews were

Research Paper On Drag Racing
Drag racing is a form of motor racing sport that involves the use of automobiles and motorcycles that
are specifically manufactured for the purpose of racing. The competitors usually aim at becoming the
first one to cross the finish line and, therefore, be declared the winners of the race. This sporting race
involves competition where the participating automobiles or motorcycles follow a straight but short
course from a standing start. The course is usually 402 meters in length and can in some cases take the
shape of a circle. The sport relies heavily on electronic timing in determining the winner of the race.
As noted by Caudill, drag racing originated in the USA. The sport was for the first time practiced in
Southern California in 1940. As Wally notes, drag racing originated in the back roads of America in
the period after the World War II. The origin of the sport was on the lake beds such as Muroc ... Show

Classroom Inclusion In The Classroom
For the majority of educational history, students with disabilities are placed in segregated classrooms
in order to protect them. However, recent controversy details the existence of increased negative
impacts on classroom segregation. The importance of classroom inclusion falls under three main
categories: mutual acceptance and equal treatment of students with disabilities in society, increased
personality development in disabled students, and quicker development of crucial skills (Soponaru,
Camelia, et al. 1). Overall, integrated classrooms appear to be effective, but many regular education
teachers lack the qualifications to properly instruct integrated classrooms. Even though some regular
education teachers are qualified to teach integrated classrooms, regular education teachers with
integrated classrooms need to be more thoroughly educated about special needs to ensure an optimal
learning environment for all students.
Regular education teachers with integrated classrooms need to be more thoroughly educated about
special needs to optimize their teaching abilities. Recent advocacy for inclusion classrooms has left
unqualified teachers instructing a range of students; which unfortunately leads to unfavorable learning
environments. According to an interview with Mary Fair, a regular education teacher, it is common for
a regular education teacher to be placed in a classroom without any prior knowledge on properly
instructing children with special needs; the outcome is a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Wastewater
Mostly, wastewaters are usually perilous and unhealthy for human beings, aquatic plants and animals
in addition to responsible for the deterioration of environment so it should be treated earlier to its

industrial polluted water still discharges large amounts of phosphorus and nitrogen. Such increased
percentage of nutrients leads to eutrophication of lakes, rivers, ponds and seas which also leads to

The Demon Lover Literary Analysis
In the realms of the World Wars, love is simply expressed through heartfelt words dancing across the
margins of decorative paper. In the short story, The Demon Lover by Elizabeth Bowen, the main
character endures the hardships of retaining mental sanity when facing a past lover returning home
years later. In the same way, the poem Answers to Letters by Tomas Tranströmer explains in first
person point of view the overbearing weight of anxious thoughts arising from time elapsing. Using
comparable symbols, The Demon Lover and Answers to Letters characters illustrate how unstable
weather patterns and faltering mental stability depict their roles in society, despite the roles of The
Demon Lover revolving around a supernatural force. Enduring the uncontrollable force above, the
weather illustrates the sudden intensities of the plot in The Demon Lover . Mrs. Drover embodies the
perfect illusion of a lovesick puppy , the weather mocking her as bright August sky. The couple utters
their goodbyes in the nearby garden. The emotions run high and promises of returning leave the young
soldier s lips with such devotion. According to author Elizabeth Bowen, the clouds have a mind of
their own: It was dark; they were saying good bye under a tree (348). The weather is speaking beneath
the words on the page, foreshadowing the turmoil that lies ahead. After years of no contact, the letter
arriving at the old London home throws Mrs. Drover off guard. The unaware and apprehensive

Censorship, Media Manipulation, And Betrayal
In George Orwell s novel, 1984, he incorporates the major themes of censorship, media manipulation,
and betrayal. The citizens of Oceania are constantly bombarded with different forms of propaganda,
including the posters stating BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING and the Party s slogans, WAR IS
PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, and IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH. Giant telescreens constantly
run streams of propaganda in hopes of making the Party appear superior to the Brotherhood.
According to Big Brother, sexual interactions should be kept to a minimum and only occur to populate
and produce more Party supporters. The Party strongly encourages the children of Oceania to join the
Junior Spies, an organization that brainwashes them to report their parents or guardians if they feel
they are being disloyal to the Party and Big Brother. Nothing is private in the territory of Oceania;
technological mechanisms, such as small microphones and helicopters acting as drones, are installed
throughout to constantly monitor its members. As media manipulation evolves and the citizens
become further brainwashed, individuals have a big decision to make, whether to rebel against the
Party or betray their old ways of life. The people of Oceania cannot express their true thoughts,
emotions, and feelings about the Party for the fear that the Thought Police will catch and turn them in.
These negative thoughts obviously exist, but not many individuals are willing to stand up for what
they believe in and who they

Character Of Polonius In Hamlet
How significant is the character of Polonius in the play Hamlet .
In the play Hamlet the character Polonius is a courtier to the king Claudius. He is the epitome of
everything that Hamlet hates in the court of Denmark. Polonius s character is at many points in the
play is a comic character who contradicts himself constantly and finds incredibly long winded ways to

His use of complex language to increase his intelligence is both farcical and comical in nature. The
most obvious example of this satirical self mockery in the play comes in Act two scene two Therefore,
since brevity is the soul of wit, And tediousness the limbs and outward flourishes, I will be brief. In
this single sentence Polonius proves to himself and the world that he his does not have the soul of wit
due to the fact that even though he is trying to talk about being short winded, Polonius cannot help
himself from embellishing his point and therefore showing that he cannot be brief. Polonius s inability
to use decisive and precise diction is a major factor in the animosity that grows between him and
Hamlet in the play and provides the basis for that particular subplot. However Polonius still manages
to make a mockery of himself when he interrupts a player claiming that the speech was too long . This
is an allusion in itself to the contradictory nature of the upper classes. Where one law applies to
everyone else and another to themselves, his clear lack of consistency is used by Shakespeare to
further enhance Polonius s comical

Four Components Of Baddeley s Working Memory Model
People rely on incoming information and stored information to perform their everyday functions.
However, humans have a natural capacity of how much information they can attain. We are unable to
store all of our acquired information without different systems that organize our information. Working
memory is one of these systems that temporarily holds and manages information for cognitive
processing (119). Baddeley s working memory model is made up of four components that allow for
temporary information to be stored (109). The central executive directs the flow of information. It
functions more with delegating the way resources are used in cognitive tasks. The central executive
also coordinates information from the person s current environment with retrieval of their prior
information (119). The phonological loop is used to carry out rehearsed maintained verbal material. It
plays an important role in the acquisition of vocabulary, learning how to read, and comprehending
language. The visuospatial sketchpad maintains material through visualization. The visuospatial
sketchpad creates and manages our mental images. The episodic buffer is a temporary system that
connects information from long term memory to working memory. Mnemonic devices are techniques
people can use to help improve their ability to remember something. There are various types of
mnemonic devices people use to develop the associations. For example, the method of loci relies on
visualizing mental images

Essay On Rna Sequencing
Introduction:
Humans have always been curious to find answers to various things of life. This curiosity and have
been a driving force for discovery. Over the years our tools have evolved from the basic light
microscope to high throughput DNA sequencers along with our understanding of the world around us.
RNA sequencing is inspiring scientists to push the limits of current research methods in understanding
how the transcriptome shapes biology and much more. RNA sequencing is becoming one of the most
significant tools in the world of modern science.
RNA sequencing (RNA Seq) is revolutionizing transcriptome studies. It s a highly reliable tool for
measuring gene expression across the transcriptome. Also, it s providing deep insight previously ...

This type of NGS analysis is a powerful tool for transcript and variant discovery which otherwise

Wider Dynamic Range and Higher Sensitivity
Microarray measure continuous probe intensities. But RNA Seq quantifies individual sequence reads
aligned to a reference sequence which produces discreet (digital) read counts2. Also, by increasing or
decreasing the number of sequencing reads (coverage level or coverage depth), researchers can fine
tune the sensitivity of an experiment to accommodate different study objectives. The digital nature of
this process and the ability to control coverage levels supports an extremely broad dynamic range,
with absolute rather than relative expression values2 4.
Assuming 10 50 million mapped reads, the dynamic range of RNA Seq spans 5 orders of magnitude (
105) and is typically several orders of magnitude higher than most array technologies (103)2,5. As a
result, RNA Seq has been shown to detect a higher percentage of differentially expressed genes
compared to expression arrays, especially genes with low abundance5,6.

First Sight In Krauss s A Universe
It is generally accepted that the universe had a beginning at some finite and measurable time in the
past; however, still highly debated since the beginning of humanity is the source from which the
universe came into its existence. In the popular science novel, A Universe from Nothing, Ph.D. and
internationally known theoretical physicist, Lawrence Krauss, demonstrates that the most plausible
answer to this question is considerably clearer than it appears to be at first sight. Through the
presentation of scientific facts and analysis of scientific experiments, Krauss argues that the universe
had a beginning with the explosion of a singularity, a point of infinite gravity and density, and how
this worldview is fully supported by scientific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This approach is most evidently utilized when Krauss quotes a former president of the Vatican s
Pontifical Academy, an extremely religious research institute which embraces views that conflict with
scientific evidence, addressing the theory of the Big Bang stating As far as I can see, such a theory
remains entirely outside of any metaphysical or religious question. (5). An authority figure and
representative of the academy is quoted to openly admitting that whether or not the Big Bang
happened is a scientific question, not a theological one. Krauss easily meets the qualification as he is a
Ph.D. in theoretical physics, and because Krauss s argument relies significantly on scientific data,
readers whose views conflicted heavily with those of Krauss are encouraged to become more open
minded and receptive to the evidence and claims being set forth. In addition, Krauss builds credibility
by openly admitting that science s capabilities are limited by the observations and evidence that can be
acquired stating perhaps we are missing something even today that might have been observable had
only we lived 10 billion years ago or perhaps could see if we lived 100 billion years into the future
(18). Krauss being direct and sincere with his audience makes him more reliable as a provider and
educator of science. Krauss also follows up with I should stress that the Big Bang picture is too firmly
grounded in data from every area to be proved invalid in its general features (118). The inclusion that
each individual field of science is able to contribute to the Big Bang picture increases Krauss s
credibility because it asserts that great minds, specialized in considerably different domains, are
arriving at the same general conclusion given access to remarkably different instruments and forms of
evidence. By utilizing ethos, Krauss is able to boost his

Analysis Of Sweeney Erect And Sweeney Among The Nightingales
A social commentator, artistic critic, and artist, T.S. Eliot importantly chides modernist culture within
his representation of the recurring character Sweeney, while also adhering to principles that he
advances within his critical essays. Not only does Eliot merely describe the lust that he observes, but
he, through Sweeney, interacts with, and consequently conveys its specific circumstances. Infusing
mythological allusions into his depictions of such immoral situations, Eliot becomes an important
medium for channeling the progression of such phenomena as sexual catastrophe into a modern
setting. Criticizing the lechery and vulgarity which characterize the Modern Period, Eliot intentionally
creates a two dimensional world in both Sweeney Erect, and Sweeney Among the Nightingales in
order to more sufficiently caricaturize the decadence of the lust and animalism that pervade his
culture.
An essential framing mechanism for both emphasizing the poem s theme, and consequently providing
social commentary, Eliot s static, caricatured, portrayal of Sweeney augments his argument that sexual
deviance and lust perpetrate sexual catastrophe. Considering the benefit of static characters within Ben
Jonson s poetry, Eliot notes that Men may not talk in that way, but the spirit of envy does, and in the
words of Jonson envy is a real and living person, thus insinuating that the act of limiting his character
to a mere manifestation of envy is a more cogent method of highlighting his theme than creating a
dynamic role (63). By titling his poem Sweeney Erect, Eliot verifies his desire to establish a static
mechanism for providing social commentary, as the title itself both posits that Sweeney resembles a
primitive human ancestor, and elicits the image of sexuality through the word erect, ultimately
characterizing his satirical figure before he is even introduced. Mirroring this sentiment, Eliot uses
Sweeney as an embodiment of both primalism and sexual promiscuity, thereby developing his
ultimate contention that concupiscence directly results in sexual catastrophe. Introducing this
relationship in his poem Sweeney Erect, Eliot depicts Sweeney s reaction to a prostitute who was
suffering from epileptic shock, noting

The Effect Of Endometriosis On Vitro Fertilization
The Effect of Endometriosis on In Vitro Fertilization By: Brittany Pangilinan Abstract The success of
in vitro fertilization treatment is compromised when a patient is suffering from endometriosis.
Endometriosis creates scar tissue and adhesions on the women s ovaries and other reproductive
structures preventing the joining of the egg and sperm during fertilization. In vitro fertilization was
created in 1977 to manually join the egg and sperm in hope of fertilization in patients who cannot
conceive on their own. Researchers have found a strong correlation between the severity of the
condition and the patient s success in IVF treatment. The future in IVF and endometriosis research can
soon uncover the cause of endometriosis, further revealing different modes of alternatives in
reproduction. Literature Review Endometriosis occurs when the endometrial tissue, normally located
inside the uterus, lines the outside. The condition most commonly affects the ovaries and peritoneum,
and affects approximately 10% of women in the United States (Barnhart et. el. 2002). The misplaced
endometrial tissue continues to act as it would in the usual situation; the tissue thickens, breaks down,
and bleeds with the menstrual cycle. Since there is no exit path for the tissue to leave the body, the
tissue becomes trapped inside the abdomen, causing severe pain (Mayo Clinic, 2013). When the
ovaries are affected from endometriosis, cysts called endometriomas may form. The surrounding

Sleep Deprivation And The Sleep
Sleep is a basic necessity of everyday life. According to the National Foundation of sleep, a person is
required to sleep at least seven to nine hours a day. (citation) As mentioned by Matt T. Bianchi in the
book Sleep Deprivation and Disease, The normal quantity of sleep depends on the individual and a
myriad of other factors such as environment and an individual s waking needs. (citation) This means
that the quantity of sleep that people achieve depends on their body s needs and functions.
Unfortunately, according to the Nation Foundation of Sleep, twenty percent of individuals are affected
by sleep deprivation each year. This a huge number. Sleep deprivation is a lack of the required sleep a
person needs in a week . It can come in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The percentage decreases after the age of fifty. Both quality and quantity are important when it comes
to sleep. If one fails to acquire the appropriate amount of R.E.M sleep and sleeps less than six hours
everyday for one week, then that person would have a total sleep debt of seven to fourteen hours. The
effects of not sleeping properly can be felt as soon as the next day.
As mentioned before, there are two types of sleep deprivation, partial sleep deprivation and total sleep
deprivation. A person is considered partially sleep deprived if he or she gets less than five hours of
sleep per night. If a person gets less than three hours of sleep per night, then he or she is considered
sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation can either be caused by lifestyle or medical issues. Factors such as
drinking coffee at night, obesity, stress, insomnia, and sleep apnea negatively affect the way one
sleeps. As mentioned previously, sleep deprivation can affect one s physically. Some of these effects
include: obesity, type two diabetes and heart disease. Most of these effects are cyclical. This means
that it is a repeating process.
Obesity is a physical illness which results in the extreme production of fat and cholesterol. Obesity is
an increasing problem in the U.S. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Obesity has
more than doubled since the 1980 s. In the 2014, six hundred million adults aged eighteen and up,
were suffering from obesity. Obesity

Purpose Of Workers Compensation Insurance
Small business can expect to pay around $2,000 to $3,000 in Workers Compensation Insurance
premiums annually, where the premiums raise with number of covered employees.
There is a minimum requirement for Employer liability coverage in Workers Compensation, required
by law, of $100,000 to $500,000 per employee for body injury claims.
Workers compensation insurance aims to provide coverage to employer for medical costs in the event
of employee injury due to employer negligence or lawsuit from employee and to provide the employee
with coverage for lost wages and additional medical benefits in the event of work place injury.
Overview

1099will also be covered. According to World Market this will new option for legal protection will
allow businesses to be able to have the same peace of mind when engaging independent contractors as
they do with W 2 employees.
SCOPE
Occupational Safety and Hazard Act (OSHA) is the legislation that surrounds the standards for a safe
work environment. When employers do not meet these standards, lawsuits can follow. However, even
if these standards are in place, accidents can still happen, and this is when workers compensation
insurance is used.
Most states consider workman s comp claims to be no fault meaning it is irrelevant whether your
employer s negligence (carelessness) contributed to your work related injury or occupational disease.
Workman s comp insurance will cover any injury or illness that is job related . That includes actions
associated with work that may not occur at the physical job site i.e. during travel. Workers
compensation also covers sudden injury or illness (e.g. a fall), as well as long term injury or illness,
such as repetitive stress injuries (e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome), lung disease or other

cell is where all the genetic information is stored. Within the nucleus, there are twenty three long
threads of DNA known as chromosomes. Each chromosome contains heredity information to direct

This cycle is conventionally divided into five discrete phases: gap phase 1(G1), synthesis, gap phase 2

this phase for days to years before resuming cell division (book). During the synthesis phase, the cell

Summary Of The Episode Remains To Be Seen
Goffman (1963) refers to stigma as being a disorder that an individual carries, it is a mark of shame in
which something unusual or bad about the person is exposed. When people express an impression to
the manner they want to present their self, they play a virtual identity to avoid exposing their actual
identity because it might be stigmatized. Goffman (1963) also mentions when people are stigmatized
they worry about how others see them, which is the similar to how we feel when performing a certain
role to keep what we consider normal people from finding out the truth about our shame a
characteristic of what we think is abnormal/weird to other people. Glacalone Rosenfeld (1989)

behavior to reflect their good qualities to the person they are performing for. Despite trying to give a
reasonable impersonation of one self, people run the risk of being discreditable, which is a stigma that
is not readily perceivable to others. Allan (2014) also discusses that some people are already

Social and cultural geography is an area of study that has become increasingly popular within
Geography. With the expansion of multi cultural societies and the increased diversification of cultures
in addition to cultural practice, globally research into social and cultural geographies has boomed.
These two diverse fields have risen in popularity among geographers and academics; meaning there is
a significant amount of research and academic papers on this broad area of study. The fact is since the
evolution of post structuralist ideas in the mid 20th century, in addition to postcolonial, and feminist
study around the 1990s. A shift from an emphasis on identity to difference in geographical literature
has become apparent. Geographers have since engaged more frequently with gender, sexuality, race ,
and class differences, by investigating how they are constituted in relation to peoples and places. This
has brought about vast levels of research casing all social identities. However for the purpose of this

attitudes in these areas have transformed immensely in the last century. As previously mentioned there

The Bluest Eye Racism Essay
How The Bluest Eye Makes Commentary on Racism
Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye is a novel about racism, yet there are relatively few instances of direct
oppression. The Bluest Eye presents a more complicated portrait of racism. The characters are subject
to an internalized set of values, which creates its own cycle of victimization. Morrison s novel
highlights how cultural ideals based on skin colour and physical features function as tools of racial
oppression. For all races and for all individuals, it is critical to fully understand how society influences
our values and beliefs. The focal character, Pecola, is victimized by a society that conditions her to
believe that she is ugly and therefore worthless, because she doesn t epitomize white ... Show more

Very early in the novel, Pecola shows excessive enthusiasm for Shirley Temple, which can be seen
from her fascination with Frieda s blue and white Shirley Temple mug and unstoppable milk drinking
from that mug three quarts of milk a day. This can be interpreted as a part of her desire to internalize
the values of white culture, a symbolic moment that foreshadows her desire to possess blue eyes. In
yearning to be Shirley Temple, Pecola denies her own identity, A little black girl yearns for the blue
eyes of a little white girl, and the horror at the heart of her yearning is exceeded only by the evil of
fulfilment (Morrison, 1999, p.34). Pecola connects beauty with being loved and believes that if she
possesses blue eyes, the cruelty in her life will be replaced by affection and respect. Surely, Pecola
suffers most from white beauty standards and this hopeless desire leads ultimately to her madness.
To Pecola, blue eyes, blond hair and white skin equals beauty, which leads to happiness. It is difficult
to fault a young girl for this misinterpretation. Certainly both white and black communities in her
world seem to support the idea. In The Bluest Eye, Morrison presents the whole community as having
taken the white criteria of beauty for their

Compare And Contrast The Natchez Tribes
The Natchez and Iroquois Native American peoples have some interesting correlation and differences
in their way of life. Their traditional descent groups, the membership of those descent groups, and
leadership positions all played a role in their political systems. The Natchez people recognized a
matriarchal descent group. They had a socio political system which included the following in
descending order, The Great Sun, Nobles, Honored Men, and Stinkards (commoners). The system was
different in the traditional hierarchical sense, in that the royal family were obligated to marry in a
lower social status, also that the only way to be a Great Sun was through the matrilineal line. Male

They were both matriarchal societies, and to be part of a group, you either had to be born into it, or
marry into it. In contrast, the Natchez peoples operated as a hierarchy, and the Iroquois peoples
operated more as a democracy. The Natchez people s political system was a sociopolitical system
(matriarchal hierarchy). The descendant grouping factored into the political system in that they were
nearly indistinguishable. The Sun rank was the highest socially, as well as politically, and held the
most powerful political positions. The Nobles held secondary positions, and the Honored Men held
some small political positions. The Commoners did not seem to have any political position. They all
operated under their King, the Great Sun, thus mirroring a hierarchy. The Iroquois peoples elected
officials to focus on goodwill, peace, and harmony. The Grand Council, of about 50 men, was selected
by women and represented the leading matrilineages. This shows that their political system was
closely related to their descent grouping in that all of the major groups had a say in their politics..
Their political system was very close to being a

Fortune Cookie Hope
The secret that leads to many goals is tenacity
Fortune Cookie Wisdom as refined from a quote from Louis Pasteur
This statement resonates deeply within me and struck me in a rather profound way when I found it in a
fortune cookie one day several years back. I have saved it, and kept it on my desk at work as a
reminder of how far I have come and how far I have to go in achieving my life goals. The only thing
that can stop me from realizing these goals is if I give up. Giving up, for me, is not an option. It is with
this belief, that I pursue my graduate degree in Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning
as a full time employee wanting to make a deeper and more meaningful impact in my chosen field of
insurance. Through my studies,

The Three Major Theories Of Social Change In Society
Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed (Cesar Chavez). Social change, is exactly that, an
alteration in the social order of a society. The three major theories of social change include:
evolutionary theory, functionalist theory and conflict theory. Evolutionary theory is society viewed as
moving in a definite direction, simple to complex social structures. Functionalist theory is a societal
system of interconnected parts that work together in harmony to maintain a state of balance. The
conflict theory claims society is in state of continuous conflict due to competition for limited
resources. In this contingent powerful groups can maintain the status quo. Society has changed over
the years. One social change in society would be social media. Being able to share opinions so freely
has become a hot topic in today s news. For example, social media not only allows gateways to others
confidential information but it also serves as a way for terrorist to send threats that can be seen by the
public. With social media, comes technology which creates new possibilities. Computer technology;
shrinks the world by decreasing time and distance between sources of information. It improves
medical care with quick diagnostic and treatment information through video consultation, and
increases educational learning options and workplace options. The negative effects of technology
consist of amplified surveillance of people and condensed privacy. Another change in society over the
years

Analysis Of The Sun Also Rises By Jake Barnes
The San Fermin Festival is a central point to The Sun Also Rises because it is where the climax is
reached in determining the maturation of Jake Barnes. The San Fermin Festival takes part every year
in Pamplona, Spain and consists of parties and bullfighting for a week. T. Peter Hays article, Hunting
Ritual in The Sun Also Rises, shows Hays belief The Sun Also Rises, and the San Fermin Festival in
the book, shows religious virtues instilled in the character of Jake Barnes. Although the San Fermin
Festival was originally a religious event, it has now become paganized like many other festivals or
holidays. The effect the war has had on Jake Barnes and other characters caused them to reject
religion; therefore, the purpose of The Sun Also Rises is not meant to parallel the Catholic Church or
exhibit religious virtues. World War I was the first time the world witnessed the abhorrent crimes man
is capable of. Jake Barnes witnessed these events while he was in the war. Not much is said about
specific atrocities Jake witnessed, but this silence was not uncommon amongst veterans. It is Count
Mippipopolous who sheds light upon war experience. My dear, I am sure Mr. Barnes has seen a lot.
Don t think I don t think so, sir. I have seen a lot, too (Hemingway, 1926, p. 60). When the Count says
this, it shows that Jake also must have witnessed much in the war. Jake is very closed off while talking
about his war experience because of the inhumane things man committed in the war. The war caused
many to reject religious philosophies because people could not believe a just God would allow man to
behave so cruelly to one another. Jake could not cope with what the war did to men, especially
himself. Jake s wound left him impotent and took away his ability to have an intimate relationship
with a woman. Jake claims to be a Catholic, but after all that has happened to him, and all that he has
seen, he cannot believe with Catholicism like those around him. While Bill and Jake were on the train
to Burgeune they are accompanied by a Catholic family. This is where we learn Jake is a Catholic, but
cannot sympathize with other Catholics. It s a pity you boys ain t Catholics. You could get a meal,
then, alright. I am, I

IVF Pros And Cons
III. Objections (pros) Helping Infertile Couples
The arguments in favor of IVF have remained fairly consistent over the years, chief among them the
potential of allowing previously infertile couples to finally have children of their own. Infertility
expert Dr. Howard Jones recalled that prior to IVF, it was often necessary to sit with a patient and say
that we had come to the end of the line. But IVF therefore seemed like a possibility of one more step
that would make less frequent this distressing conversation with a patient.
Preventing Birth Defects
An important scientific argument for IVF was that by studying fertilization and early embryonic
development outside the womb, scientists might learn more about how to prevent certain birth defects.
Proponents also noted the possibility that knowledge gleaned from IVF would advance medicine in
general, helping with prenatal care, for example.
Mainstream Procedure
As thousands more test tube babies were born, opposition to the procedure nearly vanished; according
to author Robin Marantz Henig, it was similar to how people get used ... Show more content on

If you and your partner are healthy and capable of having children naturally, in vitro fertilization can
be a way for you to increase the odds of getting pregnant. With monthly screenings and attempts, in

getting pregnant soon, then in vitro fertilization can help you save

The Aspects Of My Future Life Goals In My Life
How you ever sat down and just put any thought into what are some things you wish you could
change? Or what changes you can do in the future to get to where you want to be? I m sure you have,
and I m sure you have had regrets. I know I have, and here are some things I wish I could change and
some of my future life goals both career and educational.
One thing I wish I could change was the day I broke my mom s heart. I was still in high school, when
I decided I should move out and live with my brother. My mom and I have never really had a great
relationship with each other. With me always lying to her about where I was, who I was with, and
what I was going to do. It was always constant arguing and disagreeing on everything. One day, we
just really got into it and she told me my roof, my rules so that is when I told myself, Yup, I need to
just pack my bags and leave tonight, that will fix everything. and without thinking that s what I did. I
waited until my mom and dad went to sleep and just left without them hearing. I had left a note and
told my mom I was leaving the house because I was tired of her, her rules, and our relationship. That
next morning my mom called me and sounded really upset and hurt. Making me start feeling bad and
having regrets. After having time to think, I realized I am just a brat, and take everything for granted. I
realized my mom is the way she is with me, because she just really cares about me. I realized I needed
to be thankful and take

The Reading Of Beyond Heroes And Holidays Essay
Through the reading of Beyond Heroes and Holidays: A Practical Guide to K 12 Anti Racist,
Multicultural Education and Staff Development and A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota I
have not only learned about the experiences of others, but have also gained a deeper understanding of
my own racial and cultural identity and how that relates to other identities around me. In learning this
information, I feel that I will not only be able to understand and relate better to my future students, but
also understand their backgrounds and how they are affecting them presently. Therefore, I will be able
to teach to individuals in the way they need me to, but also create a more welcoming and inclusive
environment (racially, culturally, and otherwise) in my future classroom. The information I have read
has helped me to understand my own racial and cultural identity, how it relates to the identities of my
future students, and what I can do to make educational institutions more racially and culturally
inclusive. Recently I have been evaluating what I think to be my own racial and cultural identity. As a
Caucasian of mostly German decent who grew up in the upper Midwest, I blended in with the
majority of people around me. Due to this fact, I did not often think about race, and when I did it was
thinking about how others were different than me and the rest of us . I was a product of my culture and
the society surrounding me; I regret this thinking now, and do deeply apologize.

Research Paper On Cleopatra
Tiffany Bowland
Kate Jennings
Western civilization
13 July 2016
Cleopatra the queen of the Nile: When I think back to Roman and Egyptian times the first name that
comes to mind is Cleopatra. I envy her for many reasons. She was a great ruler, she had riches, she
had fame and most of all she had an epic love story. There were not many female rulers or females
with power when you look into history. Cleopatra is an example of many things, and is the epitome of
a powerful historical female. Her name is synomious with beauty, power, intrigue and ultimately
tragedy.
In 69 BC Cleopatra was born into an Egyptian dynasty. A dynasty in decline and under the protection
of Rome. At the young age of 18 she assumed the throne along with one ... Show more content on

Her dynasty was over, and she proved to be the last pharaoh. With her death Cleopatra has achieved
immortality through the personal story of love and tragedy. When we think of Cleopatra we
automatically think of this story. But upon the research I learned that there were others and she was
actually Cleopatra 7. Many books, plays, movies and stories have been made about the great queen of
the Nile. Some tell us different sides of the story. Each have a little bit of difference in them so who
really knows which one to believe. One thing is certain; Cleopatra was a great female ruler for her 22
years as the Egyptian queen. Ironically enough she wasn t even Egyptian or roman for that matter. She
and her family were Greek. There are also many works that suggest that she was not a very pretty
woman. Cleopatra s happiness didn t last, which seems that just like in all love stories her life doesn t
have a happy ending. Another side of the story is that Marc killed himself after being surrounded by
Octavia s troops, and then Cleopatra being held prisoner which is why she killed herself. I was very
intrigued by each story that I read of Cleopatra s life and death and her rule, and I feel like I learned a
lot. I think I will go on to watch some of the movies to see them played

  • 3. Mise High Scene Analysis 3.3 Technique Twin Peaks uses breaks of conventions of mise en scene frequently. In episode eight of season two, several figures of the police force are lined up and the camera has a steady angle for minutes . Gordon Cole walks from person to person, shaking their hands and thanking them for their great work. The scene looks unnatural and the steady camera reinforces this impression. It looks like someone filmed a boss from a company thanking his employees, which is what actually is happening: The director is thanking his actors for good work. The scene is unnecessary for the plot and does not relate to anything else during the story which is also an indicator that through the use of an unconventional mise en scene, a scene which parallel ... The picture follows the conventions of mise en scene, showing the fast vehicles and the tension in the faces of the characters with cuts from many different camera angles. According to the rules of mise en scene, a fast and action packed music would be fitting for such a chase. In its place though, the filmmakers used a slow, melancholic and cautious music. Sound and action are in contrast and the rules of mise en scene, which Sergei Eisenstein called synchronization of sound (The Film Sense 1974: 69), are again contradicted. So, Fargo works with contrasts of expected events due to certain compositions of mise en scene while Twin Peaks over stylizes scenes and lets the director himself explain techniques of how a picture is composed. • 6. Ender s Game By Orson Scott Card Rufus Mosley Intro to Business Professor: Weisberg Exam 2 1. Ender s Game by Orson Scott Card was a tremendous book. Though it may not have been the most entertaining book out there, it definitely had some good points in the storyline. The themes I noticed in the book were compassion and tyranny, along with the role that children can play. The protagonist in the book is Ender Wiggins, and the antagonist is Peter Wiggins. The personal meaning I took from this book is that it does not matter your age on what you can achieve. Ender is just a young boy who leads and saves the world. The book takes place in the future even though it was written in the 80 s. Ender is born into a family of highly intelligent people. As a child he is hated by his brother, Peter, along with other schoolmates and is protected by his sister, Valentine. He has to leave Valentine behind when he is taken away to Battle School, which is located on a ship very far away from earth so he can assist in the fight against the buggers. Ender shows off his extreme intelligence and is separated from the rest of the recruits by Colonel Graff of the International Fleet. Ender then becomes friends with a recruit name Alai. This aids Ender to make friends and fit in with people. Ender is noticed by the military commanders because of his dominance in the mind game . He is promoted to the Salamander Army shortly after. By blinds and other contrivances, the Inspectors concealed [...] from the observation of the prisoners: hence the sentiment of a sort of omnipresence [...] One station in the inspection part affording the most perfect view of every cell. (Bentham, 1798:195). This is how Jeremy Bentham, an English philosopher, described the Panopticon, an institutional building designed to make the people surveilled unable to know when they were observed. Years later, as forms of power changed and transformed throughout time, the Panopticon becomes the perfect analogy for Michel Foucault to explain the advent of a new form of dominance: Disciplinary power. This form of power, strictly related to Foucault s theory of bio power, will later become key in the development of organizational theory and understanding of modern management practices. Throughout the decades Foucault s studies have been applied to society, from late 19th century Taylorism and scientific management approach to modern days. Now, in the 21st century, his work is ever so actual with the implementation of modern surveillance and modern forms of Panopticon. Jeremy Bentham s idea of an edifice to surveil inmates without the them knowing became known as the Panopticon. Chivalry was supposedly a code that knights and nobles lived their lives by, however, like other social structures of the past historians have debated over the extent to which people lived according to chivalric principles. Sir Walter Scott believed that chivalry was meant as a code which knights could aspire, but not one that was carried out in reality. His description seems accurate. Writing about the Tournament at Saint Inglevert Froissart claimed great occasion , where both French and English enjoyed themselves. He claimed that both sides stated that there were no injuries. Very typically on this occasion, it seems that Froissart s account was romanticised. The tournament was, according to Malcolm Vale baffling because of the how artificial it was. However, contemporaries such as Henry VII believed that the tournament gave men the chance to learn the exercise of the deeds of arms . The contemporary view of tournaments, in general, is one of praise. They were seen as entertainment and quite possibly useful too. Many contemporaries do seem to concur that the tournament was a useful exercise from a combat point of view and there must be some truth to this. The tournament certainly would not have prepared a knight for a full scale battle, but it would have thought them essential skills such as how to joust and wield a sword. Either way, the tournament as described by Froissart was a part of the chivalric society, although we may question his claim that nobody was injured during the tournament he wrote about. • 9. Jeffrey Baker Hair Case Study The Curious Case of Jeffrey Baker s Hair The more intently Jess stared at the back of Jeffrey Baker s head, the more it started to resemble this particularly gruesome hairball Blue Bell, her cat, had coughed up last spring. Blue Bell had gotten into the neighbour s garbage can and feasted on a mixture of discarded floss, rotten fruit, and their dead pet mouse. The resulting hairball was the most revolting thing Jess had ever seen, and she had to plug her nose as she cleaned up the mess. Blue Bell didn t look too great after retching it up either. Jeffrey s hair was a ragged brown mess that clung to his head like the hair in a shower drain, with just as much zeal. Jacob Lawrence s Migration Series And The Gullah Culture Within the Gullah culture, the sensation of pain and suffering, movement, and history runs within the veins of the Gullah people that essentially ties into Jacob Lawrence s Migration Series. The panel that had a lot of meaning and significance behind the drawing was panel twelve that consisted of African Americans leaving the south in trains with specific appointed guards in line to be able to keep order in the train station. Within the panel, the sense of pain and suffering within the African American drawings, is clearly portrayed and they are also compared to the Caucasian guards in the drawing in a very significant way. When it comes to movement, the reason for why individuals had the tendency to migrate ended up adding up to a much bigger result than just simple struggles. The history behind the Jacob Lawrence s Migration Series and the Gullah culture is more than just a basic relation, on the contrary they have an intensified connection that ties them together. Within Jacob Lawrence s twelfth panel, pain and suffering plays an important part in the drawing. TITLE Self awareness and the locus of the self knowledge development: a comparison study to investigate developmental sequences using semi structured self concept interviews. ABSTRACT This study examines the view that self awareness gradually develops with a shift from physical to psychological characteristics whilst the locus of self knowledge progressively transfers from others to the self. Previous research implementing semi structured self concept interviews to investigate self descriptions amongst young children of various age groups supported these findings, underpinning the theories of a gradual emergence and elaboration of the self as a subject and the self as an object of knowledge. Rosenberg s (ibid) findings indicated that younger children tend to describe more physical activities and characteristics whilst this gradually develops to include relationships and interpersonal traits, eventually shifting to more inner qualities. Rosenberg (1979, as cited in: The Open University, 2010, pp. 21 22) also found that the locus of self knowledge gradually shifted from a reliance on another person as point of reference for judging themselves, towards the self. This study intends to investigate, and confirm, the findings of Rosenberg (1979, as cited in: The Open University, 2010, pp. 21 22) by analysing transcripts of semi structured interviews with two children aged eight and sixteen. This was done within the meaning of investigating the development of the self concept and the locus of self knowledge. METHOD Design The study is a comparison of the self descriptions provided by two young people during one to one semi structured self concept interviews. Participants Two participants participated in this study; an eight year old girl (Annie), and a sixteen year old boy (Adam). They were recruited by The Open University course team who approached a primary and secondary school in the Milton Keynes area (England), for volunteers whose parents signed the relevant consent form. The competitors usually aim at becoming the first one to cross the finish line and, therefore, be declared the winners of the race. This sporting race involves competition where the participating automobiles or motorcycles follow a straight but short course from a standing start. The course is usually 402 meters in length and can in some cases take the shape of a circle. The sport relies heavily on electronic timing in determining the winner of the race. As noted by Caudill, drag racing originated in the USA. The sport was for the first time practiced in Southern California in 1940. • 16. Classroom Inclusion In The Classroom For the majority of educational history, students with disabilities are placed in segregated classrooms in order to protect them. However, recent controversy details the existence of increased negative impacts on classroom segregation. The importance of classroom inclusion falls under three main categories: mutual acceptance and equal treatment of students with disabilities in society, increased personality development in disabled students, and quicker development of crucial skills (Soponaru, Camelia, et al. 1). Overall, integrated classrooms appear to be effective, but many regular education teachers lack the qualifications to properly instruct integrated classrooms. Even though some regular education teachers are qualified to teach integrated classrooms, regular education teachers with integrated classrooms need to be more thoroughly educated about special needs to ensure an optimal learning environment for all students. Regular education teachers with integrated classrooms need to be more thoroughly educated about special needs to optimize their teaching abilities. Recent advocacy for inclusion classrooms has left unqualified teachers instructing a range of students; which unfortunately leads to unfavorable learning environments. According to an interview with Mary Fair, a regular education teacher, it is common for a regular education teacher to be placed in a classroom without any prior knowledge on properly instructing children with special needs; the outcome is a ... • 18. The Demon Lover Literary Analysis In the realms of the World Wars, love is simply expressed through heartfelt words dancing across the margins of decorative paper. In the short story, The Demon Lover by Elizabeth Bowen, the main character endures the hardships of retaining mental sanity when facing a past lover returning home years later. In the same way, the poem Answers to Letters by Tomas Tranströmer explains in first person point of view the overbearing weight of anxious thoughts arising from time elapsing. Using comparable symbols, The Demon Lover and Answers to Letters characters illustrate how unstable weather patterns and faltering mental stability depict their roles in society, despite the roles of The Demon Lover revolving around a supernatural force. Enduring the uncontrollable force above, the weather illustrates the sudden intensities of the plot in The Demon Lover . Mrs. Drover embodies the perfect illusion of a lovesick puppy , the weather mocking her as bright August sky. The couple utters their goodbyes in the nearby garden. The emotions run high and promises of returning leave the young soldier s lips with such devotion. The citizens of Oceania are constantly bombarded with different forms of propaganda, including the posters stating BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING and the Party s slogans, WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, and IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH. Giant telescreens constantly run streams of propaganda in hopes of making the Party appear superior to the Brotherhood. • 23. Character Of Polonius In Hamlet How significant is the character of Polonius in the play Hamlet . In the play Hamlet the character Polonius is a courtier to the king Claudius. He is the epitome of everything that Hamlet hates in the court of Denmark. Polonius s character is at many points in the play is a comic character who contradicts himself constantly and finds incredibly long winded ways to embellish his points. Shakespeare uses the persona of Polonius, as a satirical figure and as a foil, to show what is wrong with the court of the time. In this single sentence Polonius proves to himself and the world that he his does not have the soul of wit due to the fact that even though he is trying to talk about being short winded, Polonius cannot help himself from embellishing his point and therefore showing that he cannot be brief. Polonius s inability to use decisive and precise diction is a major factor in the animosity that grows between him and Hamlet in the play and provides the basis for that particular subplot. However Polonius still manages to make a mockery of himself when he interrupts a player claiming that the speech was too long . • 25. Four Components Of Baddeley s Working Memory Model People rely on incoming information and stored information to perform their everyday functions. However, humans have a natural capacity of how much information they can attain. We are unable to store all of our acquired information without different systems that organize our information. Working memory is one of these systems that temporarily holds and manages information for cognitive processing (119). Baddeley s working memory model is made up of four components that allow for temporary information to be stored (109). The central executive directs the flow of information. It functions more with delegating the way resources are used in cognitive tasks. The central executive also coordinates information from the person s current environment with retrieval of their prior information (119). The phonological loop is used to carry out rehearsed maintained verbal material. It plays an important role in the acquisition of vocabulary, learning how to read, and comprehending language. The visuospatial sketchpad maintains material through visualization. The visuospatial sketchpad creates and manages our mental images. The episodic buffer is a temporary system that connects information from long term memory to working memory. First Sight In Krauss s A Universe It is generally accepted that the universe had a beginning at some finite and measurable time in the past; however, still highly debated since the beginning of humanity is the source from which the universe came into its existence. In the popular science novel, A Universe from Nothing, Ph.D. and internationally known theoretical physicist, Lawrence Krauss, demonstrates that the most plausible answer to this question is considerably clearer than it appears to be at first sight. (5). An authority figure and representative of the academy is quoted to openly admitting that whether or not the Big Bang happened is a scientific question, not a theological one. Krauss easily meets the qualification as he is a Ph.D. in theoretical physics, and because Krauss s argument relies significantly on scientific data, readers whose views conflicted heavily with those of Krauss are encouraged to become more open minded and receptive to the evidence and claims being set forth. In addition, Krauss builds credibility by openly admitting that science s capabilities are limited by the observations and evidence that can be acquired stating perhaps we are missing something even today that might have been observable had only we lived 10 billion years ago or perhaps could see if we lived 100 billion years into the future (18). Krauss being direct and sincere with his audience makes him more reliable as a provider and educator of science. Krauss also follows up with I should stress that the Big Bang picture is too firmly grounded in data from every area to be proved invalid in its general features (118). The inclusion that each individual field of science is able to contribute to the Big Bang picture increases Krauss s credibility because it asserts that great minds, specialized in considerably different domains, are arriving at the same general conclusion given access to remarkably different instruments and forms of evidence. • 29. Analysis Of Sweeney Erect And Sweeney Among The Nightingales A social commentator, artistic critic, and artist, T.S. Eliot importantly chides modernist culture within his representation of the recurring character Sweeney, while also adhering to principles that he advances within his critical essays. Not only does Eliot merely describe the lust that he observes, but he, through Sweeney, interacts with, and consequently conveys its specific circumstances. Infusing mythological allusions into his depictions of such immoral situations, Eliot becomes an important medium for channeling the progression of such phenomena as sexual catastrophe into a modern setting. Criticizing the lechery and vulgarity which characterize the Modern Period, Eliot intentionally creates a two dimensional world in both Sweeney Erect, and Sweeney Among the Nightingales in order to more sufficiently caricaturize the decadence of the lust and animalism that pervade his culture. An essential framing mechanism for both emphasizing the poem s theme, and consequently providing social commentary, Eliot s static, caricatured, portrayal of Sweeney augments his argument that sexual deviance and lust perpetrate sexual catastrophe. Considering the benefit of static characters within Ben Jonson s poetry, Eliot notes that Men may not talk in that way, but the spirit of envy does, and in the words of Jonson envy is a real and living person, thus insinuating that the act of limiting his character to a mere manifestation of envy is a more cogent method of highlighting his theme than creating a dynamic role (63). By titling his poem Sweeney Erect, Eliot verifies his desire to establish a static mechanism for providing social commentary, as the title itself both posits that Sweeney resembles a primitive human ancestor, and elicits the image of sexuality through the word erect, ultimately characterizing his satirical figure before he is even introduced. Mirroring this sentiment, Eliot uses Sweeney as an embodiment of both primalism and sexual promiscuity, thereby developing his ultimate contention that concupiscence directly results in sexual catastrophe. Introducing this relationship in his poem Sweeney Erect, Eliot depicts Sweeney s reaction to a prostitute who was suffering from epileptic shock, noting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. The Effect Of Endometriosis On Vitro Fertilization The Effect of Endometriosis on In Vitro Fertilization By: Brittany Pangilinan Abstract The success of in vitro fertilization treatment is compromised when a patient is suffering from endometriosis. Endometriosis creates scar tissue and adhesions on the women s ovaries and other reproductive structures preventing the joining of the egg and sperm during fertilization. In vitro fertilization was created in 1977 to manually join the egg and sperm in hope of fertilization in patients who cannot conceive on their own. Researchers have found a strong correlation between the severity of the condition and the patient s success in IVF treatment. The future in IVF and endometriosis research can soon uncover the cause of endometriosis, further revealing different modes of alternatives in reproduction. Literature Review Endometriosis occurs when the endometrial tissue, normally located inside the uterus, lines the outside. The condition most commonly affects the ovaries and peritoneum, and affects approximately 10% of women in the United States (Barnhart et. el. 2002). The misplaced endometrial tissue continues to act as it would in the usual situation; the tissue thickens, breaks down, and bleeds with the menstrual cycle. Since there is no exit path for the tissue to leave the body, the tissue becomes trapped inside the abdomen, causing severe pain (Mayo Clinic, 2013). When the ovaries are affected from endometriosis, cysts called endometriomas may form. The surrounding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With all these risks, why do people still go through with this dangerous procedure? I don t think it s worth it. But according to the opposing article www.platicsurgeons.com if patients go through the procedure the affects will be long term and you will get what you want. In my opinion with dangerous risks including losing your life it isn t worth it. Plastic surgery may raise self esteem, but often does not. Many teens don t realize even the most beautiful people, including celebrities, are insecure about their appearances. And getting plastic surgery cannot fix all of your problems. Many teens get plastice surgery for unrealistic reason, such as to fit in with other peers or to keep up with lastest celebrities, or to attempt to improve their physical appearance as said in the article www.wtvq.com/health the media is the main influence that is at fault. There are all sorts of things that require maturity and judgment. According to the Wikipedia Encyclopedia the frontal lobe of the brain does not fully develop until the 20s to 30s. That portion of the brain controls decision making, and understanding consequences. This is another reason why teenagers should not have plastic surgery. Therefore teenagers should not undergo the plastic surgery when you are young and surgeon should not touch the body that is not yet fully grown. • 42. The Bluest Eye Racism Essay How The Bluest Eye Makes Commentary on Racism Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye is a novel about racism, yet there are relatively few instances of direct oppression. The Bluest Eye presents a more complicated portrait of racism. The characters are subject to an internalized set of values, which creates its own cycle of victimization. Morrison s novel highlights how cultural ideals based on skin colour and physical features function as tools of racial oppression. For all races and for all individuals, it is critical to fully understand how society influences our values and beliefs. The focal character, Pecola, is victimized by a society that conditions her to believe that she is ugly and therefore worthless, because she doesn t epitomize white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Very early in the novel, Pecola shows excessive enthusiasm for Shirley Temple, which can be seen from her fascination with Frieda s blue and white Shirley Temple mug and unstoppable milk drinking from that mug three quarts of milk a day. This can be interpreted as a part of her desire to internalize the values of white culture, a symbolic moment that foreshadows her desire to possess blue eyes. In yearning to be Shirley Temple, Pecola denies her own identity, A little black girl yearns for the blue eyes of a little white girl, and the horror at the heart of her yearning is exceeded only by the evil of fulfilment (Morrison, 1999, p.34). Pecola connects beauty with being loved and believes that if she possesses blue eyes, the cruelty in her life will be replaced by affection and respect. Surely, Pecola suffers most from white beauty standards and this hopeless desire leads ultimately to her madness. To Pecola, blue eyes, blond hair and white skin equals beauty, which leads to happiness. It is difficult to fault a young girl for this misinterpretation. Certainly both white and black communities in her world seem to support the idea. In The Bluest Eye, Morrison presents the whole community as having taken the white criteria of beauty for their ... • 43. Compare And Contrast The Natchez Tribes The Natchez and Iroquois Native American peoples have some interesting correlation and differences in their way of life. Their traditional descent groups, the membership of those descent groups, and leadership positions all played a role in their political systems. The Natchez people recognized a matriarchal descent group. They had a socio political system which included the following in descending order, The Great Sun, Nobles, Honored Men, and Stinkards (commoners). The system was different in the traditional hierarchical sense, in that the royal family were obligated to marry in a lower social status, also that the only way to be a Great Sun was through the matrilineal line. They were both matriarchal societies, and to be part of a group, you either had to be born into it, or marry into it. In contrast, the Natchez peoples operated as a hierarchy, and the Iroquois peoples operated more as a democracy. The Natchez people s political system was a sociopolitical system (matriarchal hierarchy). The descendant grouping factored into the political system in that they were nearly indistinguishable. The Sun rank was the highest socially, as well as politically, and held the most powerful political positions. The Nobles held secondary positions, and the Honored Men held some small political positions. The Commoners did not seem to have any political position. They all operated under their King, the Great Sun, thus mirroring a hierarchy. The Iroquois peoples elected officials to focus on goodwill, peace, and harmony. The Grand Council, of about 50 men, was selected by women and represented the leading matrilineages. This shows that their political system was closely related to their descent grouping in that all of the major groups had a say in their politics.. Their political system was very close to being a ... The only thing that can stop me from realizing these goals is if I give up. Giving up, for me, is not an option. • 45. The Three Major Theories Of Social Change In Society Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed (Cesar Chavez). Social change, is exactly that, an alteration in the social order of a society. The three major theories of social change include: evolutionary theory, functionalist theory and conflict theory. Evolutionary theory is society viewed as moving in a definite direction, simple to complex social structures. Functionalist theory is a societal system of interconnected parts that work together in harmony to maintain a state of balance. The conflict theory claims society is in state of continuous conflict due to competition for limited resources. In this contingent powerful groups can maintain the status quo. Society has changed over the years. One social change in society would be social media. Being able to share opinions so freely has become a hot topic in today s news. For example, social media not only allows gateways to others confidential information but it also serves as a way for terrorist to send threats that can be seen by the public. With social media, comes technology which creates new possibilities. Computer technology; shrinks the world by decreasing time and distance between sources of information. It improves medical care with quick diagnostic and treatment information through video consultation, and increases educational learning options and workplace options. The negative effects of technology consist of amplified surveillance of people and condensed privacy. Another change in society over the years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Analysis Of The Sun Also Rises By Jake Barnes The San Fermin Festival is a central point to The Sun Also Rises because it is where the climax is reached in determining the maturation of Jake Barnes. The San Fermin Festival takes part every year in Pamplona, Spain and consists of parties and bullfighting for a week. T. Peter Hays article, Hunting Ritual in The Sun Also Rises, shows Hays belief The Sun Also Rises, and the San Fermin Festival in the book, shows religious virtues instilled in the character of Jake Barnes. Although the San Fermin Festival was originally a religious event, it has now become paganized like many other festivals or holidays. The effect the war has had on Jake Barnes and other characters caused them to reject religion; therefore, the purpose of The Sun Also Rises is not meant to parallel the Catholic Church or exhibit religious virtues. World War I was the first time the world witnessed the abhorrent crimes man is capable of. Jake Barnes witnessed these events while he was in the war. Not much is said about specific atrocities Jake witnessed, but this silence was not uncommon amongst veterans. It is Count Mippipopolous who sheds light upon war experience. My dear, I am sure Mr. Barnes has seen a lot. Don t think I don t think so, sir. I have seen a lot, too (Hemingway, 1926, p. 60). When the Count says this, it shows that Jake also must have witnessed much in the war. Jake is very closed off while talking about his war experience because of the inhumane things man committed in the war. The war caused many to reject religious philosophies because people could not believe a just God would allow man to behave so cruelly to one another. Jake could not cope with what the war did to men, especially himself. Jake s wound left him impotent and took away his ability to have an intimate relationship with a woman. Jake claims to be a Catholic, but after all that has happened to him, and all that he has seen, he cannot believe with Catholicism like those around him. While Bill and Jake were on the train to Burgeune they are accompanied by a Catholic family. This is where we learn Jake is a Catholic, but cannot sympathize with other Catholics. Objections (pros) Helping Infertile Couples The arguments in favor of IVF have remained fairly consistent over the years, chief among them the potential of allowing previously infertile couples to finally have children of their own. Infertility expert Dr. Howard Jones recalled that prior to IVF, it was often necessary to sit with a patient and say that we had come to the end of the line. But IVF therefore seemed like a possibility of one more step that would make less frequent this distressing conversation with a patient. Preventing Birth Defects An important scientific argument for IVF was that by studying fertilization and early embryonic development outside the womb, scientists might learn more about how to prevent certain birth defects. Proponents also noted the possibility that knowledge gleaned from IVF would advance medicine in general, helping with prenatal care, for example. • 49. The Aspects Of My Future Life Goals In My Life How you ever sat down and just put any thought into what are some things you wish you could change? Or what changes you can do in the future to get to where you want to be? I m sure you have, and I m sure you have had regrets. I know I have, and here are some things I wish I could change and some of my future life goals both career and educational. One thing I wish I could change was the day I broke my mom s heart. I was still in high school, when I decided I should move out and live with my brother. My mom and I have never really had a great relationship with each other. With me always lying to her about where I was, who I was with, and what I was going to do. It was always constant arguing and disagreeing on everything. One day, we just really got into it and she told me my roof, my rules so that is when I told myself, Yup, I need to just pack my bags and leave tonight, that will fix everything. and without thinking that s what I did. I waited until my mom and dad went to sleep and just left without them hearing. I had left a note and told my mom I was leaving the house because I was tired of her, her rules, and our relationship. That next morning my mom called me and sounded really upset and hurt. Making me start feeling bad and having regrets. After having time to think, I realized I am just a brat, and take everything for granted. I realized my mom is the way she is with me, because she just really cares about me. The Reading Of Beyond Heroes And Holidays Essay Through the reading of Beyond Heroes and Holidays: A Practical Guide to K 12 Anti Racist, Multicultural Education and Staff Development and A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota I have not only learned about the experiences of others, but have also gained a deeper understanding of my own racial and cultural identity and how that relates to other identities around me. In learning this information, I feel that I will not only be able to understand and relate better to my future students, but also understand their backgrounds and how they are affecting them presently. Therefore, I will be able to teach to individuals in the way they need me to, but also create a more welcoming and inclusive environment (racially, culturally, and otherwise) in my future classroom. The information I have read has helped me to understand my own racial and cultural identity, how it relates to the identities of my future students, and what I can do to make educational institutions more racially and culturally inclusive. Recently I have been evaluating what I think to be my own racial and cultural identity. As a Caucasian of mostly German decent who grew up in the upper Midwest, I blended in with the majority of people around me. Due to this fact, I did not often think about race, and when I did it was thinking about how others were different than me and the rest of us . I was a product of my culture and the society surrounding me; I regret this thinking now, and do deeply apologize. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Research Paper On Cleopatra Tiffany Bowland Kate Jennings Western civilization 13 July 2016 Cleopatra the queen of the Nile: When I think back to Roman and Egyptian times the first name that comes to mind is Cleopatra. I envy her for many reasons. She was a great ruler, she had riches, she had fame and most of all she had an epic love story. There were not many female rulers or females with power when you look into history. Cleopatra is an example of many things, and is the epitome of a powerful historical female. Her name is synomious with beauty, power, intrigue and ultimately tragedy. In 69 BC Cleopatra was born into an Egyptian dynasty. A dynasty in decline and under the protection of Rome. At the young age of 18 she assumed the throne along with one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her dynasty was over, and she proved to be the last pharaoh. With her death Cleopatra has achieved immortality through the personal story of love and tragedy. When we think of Cleopatra we automatically think of this story. But upon the research I learned that there were others and she was actually Cleopatra 7. Many books, plays, movies and stories have been made about the great queen of the Nile. Some tell us different sides of the story. Each have a little bit of difference in them so who really knows which one to believe. One thing is certain; Cleopatra was a great female ruler for her 22 years as the Egyptian queen. Ironically enough she wasn t even Egyptian or roman for that matter. She and her family were Greek. There are also many works that suggest that she was not a very pretty woman. Cleopatra s happiness didn t last, which seems that just like in all love stories her life doesn t have a happy ending. Another side of the story is that Marc killed himself after being surrounded by Octavia s troops, and then Cleopatra being held prisoner which is why she killed herself. I was very intrigued by each story that I read of Cleopatra s life and death and her rule, and I feel like I learned a lot. I think I will go on to watch some of the movies to see them played ...
