Taking a Look Inside a System on Chip (SOP) Essay
Embedded platforms were initially composed of separate discrete components. The processor
was a separate component with just a memory bus interface, and all peripherals were attached to
this bus. As integration levels increase, more and more logic is added to the processor die,
creating families of application specific service processors. The term system on chip (SOC) is
often used to describe these highly integrated processors. These SOCs include much of the logic
and interfaces that are required for a range of specific target applications. The silicon vendors that
develop these SOC devices often create families of SOCs all using the same processor core, but
with a wide range of integrated capabilities.
SOCs integrate capabilities to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to its very high level of integration and much shorter wiring, an SoC also uses considerably
less power again, this is a big bonus when it comes to mobile computing. Cutting down on the
number of physical chips means that it s much cheaper to build a computer using an SoC, too.
The only real disadvantage of an SoC is a complete lack of flexibility. With your PC, you can put
in a new CPU, GPU, or RAM at any time you cannot do the same for your smartphone. In the
future you might be able to buy SoCs that you can slot in, but because everything is integrated this
will be wasteful and expensive if you only want to add more RAM.
The most fundamental characteristic of an SoC is complexity. A memory chip may have many
transistors, but its regular structure makes it a component and not a system. Exactly what
components are assembled on the SoC varies with the application. Many SoCs contain analog and
mixed signal circuitry for input/output (I/O). Although some high performance I/O applications
require a separate analog interface chip that serves as a companion to a digital SoC, most of an
SoC is digital because that is the only way to build such complex functions reliably. The system
may contain memory, instruction set processors (central processing units [CPUs]), specialized
logic, busses, and other digital functions. The architecture of the system is generally tailored to the
application rather than being a

The Brandon Teena Story Sociology
The film The Brandon Teena Story followed the story of Teena Brandon s, who went by the name
Brandon, death in Nebraska. Brandon lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, as a male, despite him being
born as a female, at the start of the film. The audience was informed that Brandon had been
behaving, acting, and living as a male for years. Brandon s mother, Joann Brandon, had previously
sent Brandon to counseling to treat his attempts and ideas about suicide, and presumably his gender
dysphoria. However, after returning from counseling, Brandon s want of being of manwas only
solidified. In the middle of November 1993, Brandon moved to Falls City Nebraska. It was in
Falls City, Nebraska where Brandon met and befriended ex convicts Tom Nissen and... Show more

A gender ideology is a set of ideas widely shared by members of a society that guides identities,
behaviors, and institutions (Wade, et. al. 2015). Until Brandon s sex was discovered, almost
everyone that he interacted with daily believed that he was a male from birth. Nobody really
questioned Brandon s gender or sex because they believed that he exemplified the typical idea of
a man. In the film, Brandon s friends and ex girlfriends all described him as a male based mostly
on Brandon s gender expression, looks, and hobbies. The people in the film all described how
Brandon would wear clothes for men, sit with his legs open, and talk about girls and cars. Even
Nissen s sister described how one time her, Brandon, and others, were in a van and Brandon had to
go to the bathroom and tried to pee out of a window. All of these factors made up the people who
Brandon interacted with schemas about gender. Nobody ever thought about Brandon maybe being
a female because their cultural lens, a male does everything Brandon does, so he is a male. This
concept also shows up later in the film when Brandon was questioned by a woman about
whether he was truly a male. The deciding factor for this woman on whether Brandon was a man
or not, was determined by if he had a penis. This woman s idea of a traditional man involved a
penis; so if Brandon did not have one Brandon could not have been a man. However, the woman,
because of her pre existing conceptions, she did not think that maybe one does not need a penis
to be a male. For example, disregarding transsexuals and transgendered people, a male could have
been castrated, effectively removing his penis. However, just because his penis is gone, he is
usually still seen as a male. Castration of males was done throughout history whether it was
Chinese or Roman Slaves (Tougher 2013), or as a dedication to one s religion

Nick Carraway Mature In The Great Gatsby
In The Great Gatsby written by Scott F Fitzgerald, we meet a plethora of characters all
displaying traits of one who has not matured yet. The Great Gatsby follows the story of a man
who is infatuated with a reckless woman and the drama that follows. Nick Carraway is our
narrator and one of the main characters, he spends much of his time observing the mistakes and
everyday lives of the other characters. Even though he is an adult, Nick does grow in maturity and
insight throughout the course of the novel as he is drawn into a lifestyle completely foreign to him.
Nick is, in fact, the only dynamic character in the novel. He introduces us to the others, through his
clear and unbiased view on things.
We meet Daisy Buchanan who is a mysteriously ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

drives him to confrontation which ends him up dead. Jay Gatsby is the embodiment of the
American Dream. He is shown to us in all his immature romanticism, which includes an insecure
grasp of social and human values, a lack of cultural intelligence and self knowledge, a blindness to
the pitfalls that surround him. All of these things are results of his compulsive optimism and
idealism. His immature ideals cannot be sustained in reality. As Nick tells us, there are only the
pursued, the pursuing, the busy, and the tired . Ultimately, disappointed in love and bereft of real
friends, Gatsby grows tired of being both pursued and pursuing (i.e. Daisy). His adolescent ideals
ultimately crumble and lead to his own demise under the persistent encroachment of

Antigone by Sophocles
In the playwright Antigone by Sophocles, the characters reveal their values while exposing a life
lessons through their actions, dialogue, thoughts ,and effects on others. Antigone starts with two
brothers, Eteocles and Polyneices, being killed at battle. Creon, the king of Thebes, declares that
Eteocles death will be honored and Polyneices dishonored. He instead will lay unburied to become
the food of animals. When the play opens, Antigonetakes Ismene, Antigone and Ismene are sisters
of the dead brothers, outside the city to tell Ismene about her plan to bury her brother despite Creons
proclamation. Ismene refuses to help her, fearing her own death, however she cannot impede
Antigone from continuing with her plan. Antigone defies the law, buries her brother, and is
caught. When Creon locks her away in prison, she kills herself. Meanwhile, Creon finds out about
her death and out of despair, Creon s son and wife have by then also killed themselves. After all,
Creon is left in distress and sorrow. Antigone s family values and loyalty are revealed by her
consistent actions throughout the play while exposing an essential moral message about life.
The law impedes Antigone from burying her brother, yet despite possibly facing death, she refused
to not go. Those specific actions demonstrate her passionate side in regards to her family. Antigone
would face anything to honor her brothers death, I will bury the brother I love , she declares to her
sister and from there, there

Declaration Of Faith Research Paper
Faith is far from being easy. If your faith is placed in something you can t see, then it s usually hard
to act on that faith unless you are deeply rooted and involved in it. Actions prove how much faith
you have. Without proof, your declaration of faith does not mean much.
Abraham is an exceptionally worthy example of faith in God. I admire Abraham s faith for many
reasons. First, he wasn t from a family that adopted faith in God. His family was pagan and didn t
have faith in God in the first place. Logically, Abraham had no foundation of belief either, unless
he had strong faith in the power of God. He could either choose to live in comfortable harmony
with his relatives, without provoking his family by turning on their religion, or he ... Show more

God gives gifts, and if it is His will, He takes them away. Abraham had been promised that he
would be a father of many nations, and even though it seemed impossible at the time, Isaac was
born. Now, the majority of people would be overjoyed and delighted at such a miracle from
God. Abraham must have prized his child and loved him intensely, but then his faith was tested
again. God asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, which was something that must have broken
Abraham s heart to do. He had waited so long to receive God s promise of a son, and now it was
apparently being taken away from him. He had already trusted God immensely, even though he
had occasionally proved irresolute, but this might have seemed like a complete contraction of
God s promise and character. How could he be a father of many nations without a son? Why
would a just and fair God command him to sacrifice a child that he loved? It doesn t quite make
sense when you think about it, but God does have a plan in the end. Nevertheless, only a meager
amount of people would follow through with this act of supreme submission and faith. Abraham
was stalwart in his faith, however, and God rewarded him by not letting him kill Isaac. Abraham
had faith in God s power rather than the gift God had given him, and in the end it showed that God

Improving End-of-Life Care in The United States Essay
Death comes to all in the end, shrouded in mystery, occasionally bringing with it pain, and while
some may welcome its finality, others may fight it with every ounce of their strength. Humans have
throughout the centuries created death rituals to bring them peace and healing after the death of a
loved one.
Deaths were a form of social event, when families and loved ones would gather around the bed of
the dying, offering emotional support and comfort. Myth, religion, and tradition would combine to
give the event deeper meaning and ease the transition for all involved. The one who was dying was
confident in knowing what lay behind the veil of death, thanks to religious faith or tradition. His or

(Fine et al. 596). The two primary forms of care administered at the end of life are palliative care
and hospice. Palliative care is intended to treat the symptoms of illness as well as address the
individual s spiritual, financial, emotional, and social needs. Hospice care enables terminally ill
individuals and their families to maintain dignity and spend their final days in a comfortable
environment.
Palliative care may provide support for the individual s social support network. While palliative
care is often offered as end of life care, it may also be offered during any serious illness to ease the
burden of that illness, whether or not that illness is considered terminal. ( Palliative Care 1)
Patients with chronic or life threatening illnesses may turn to palliative care for its symptom
relieving benefits as well as its ability to improve their quality of life. A key factor in quality
palliative care is effective communication between medical professionals and the patient as well
as the patient s caretakers. Pain management, continuity of care among caretakers and medical
providers, and concentration on the patient s personal preference are all major aspects of
palliative care. Good palliative care should begin with a discussion on advanced care directives,
preferably initiated by a physician. (Fine, et al. 595,

Persuasive Essay On The Matrix
As we grew up, and got into a more understanding stage as a kid, we always have questioned
everything that comes new to us, with the, five W s, (when, where, why, who and what). We
experienced new things like, different hobbies, food, traveling to new places, etc. As we enter the
teenage years, we think our main goal in life is to, go to school, graduate, school again, graduate
and finally our dream job, but life isn t that easy isn t? Life involves money, dealing with people,
meeting new people, drama and other struggling situations. Life is not easy because many things
come one it. Watching The Matrixgave me a real life lesson and made me more open minded about
life that can help anybody. I believe The Matrix answers some questions concerning serious life
issues like, self doubting, taking revenge and taking a new path into your life. Self doubting makes
us feel unwanted and unbelieving on your self when it comes to any situation. Taking revenge only
takes place when somebody is mad at one another by mostly being jealous. Taking a new path may
be a start to something better, and start understanding what you re here for. In The Matrix ,
Morpheusfinds Neo because he knows he is the one. After Morpheus find him and tells him you
re the one , Neo is confused and wants more answers. Morpheus gives Neo two options to take the
blue pill or the red pill. If he takes the red pill, he will know all the answers he s been wanted to

Construction Contracts Essay
Chapter 4 Construction Contracts 1. Name and briefly describe each of the two basic types of
competitively bid construction contracts. Which type would be most likely used for building the
piers to support a large suspension bridge. Why? Two basic types of competitively bid
construction contracts are lump sum and the unit price contract. The lump sum contract is when
the contractor agrees to complete all work for a pre determined price including profit and the
contract. The unit price contract is when the contractor quotes work on units separately instead of
entire project. Price is based on units of work performed, and cost varies depending on the

4. Name two types of negotiated contracts and describe the method of payment and incentive
concept. Cost + percent of cost is the method of payment which is related to the cost of the job,
the larger the cost of the job the higher the amount of fee that is to be paid by the owner. There is
a little incentive to be efficient and economical in the construction but is subjected to abuse.
Cost + fixed fee is paid regardless of the variation of the reimbursable cost factor. This method
gives contractors an incentive to get the job done as quickly as possible in order to recover his
fee over the shortest time frame. 5. What is meant by unbalancing bid? What type of contract is
implied? Give an example of how a bid is unbalanced. A bid is unbalanced when some
contractors use this method to profit greatly on a project. Contractors do this by changing unit
prices of various bid items to the point where the price does not reflect the true cost of those
items. The unit price contract is implied to an unbalancing bid. An example of how a bid could
be unbalanced occurs when a contractor uses the method of unstable bidding by overbidding in
the beginning of the contract in order to reduce his finances and then will underbid at the end of
the project. 6. Why is cost plus a percentage of cost type of contract not used to a great extent? A
cost plus, is a fixed price contract where the contractor paid for all the allowed expenses to certain

The Difference Between Civil Rights And Civil Rights
I noted that the U.S. civil liberties, as well as, U.S. civil rights are generally located in the first ten
amendments to the Constitution, known as the Bill of Rights, as well as, the Fourteenth
Amendment. The distinction between civil liberties and civil rights is blurred since the concepts
are used interchangeably, even though they refer to different kinds of guaranteed protections. Civil
liberties are protections against government actions. Whereas civil rightsrefer to positive actions
governments should take to create equal conditions. The primary objective of this essay is to
distinguish between civil rights and civil liberties. In this essay, I present a case related to the
civil right to free expression or creation of equal conditions in forum 4.1. Whereas in forum 4.2 I
present a provision of the US Patriot Act related to civil liberties or protections against federal
government action.

Searching for the Clownfish
Finding Nemo is the 2003 product creation of Disney and Pixar. Their long lasting relationship
yielded Toy Story, A Bug s Life, and Monsters Inc. Then, they made a long lasting movie, Finding
Nemo. The movie won an Academy Award and moved into the hearts of many young children and
adults. The director, Andrew Stanton, did a marvelous job with the execution of Nemo. The movie
is chalk full of loving little fish that thrill all creatures from the land to every cubic inch of water in
the sea. Finding Nemois about a young clownfish named Nemo, voiced by Alexander Gould, who
is kidnapped by a dentist and has to stay alive and wait for his father, Marlin, voiced by Albert
Brooks, to fearlessly travel the ocean and meet many creatures to help rescue his son. Marlin
has a rough time searching for his son though. Marlins wife is killed in the beginning of the
movie by a barracuda trying to save all of her eggs. All are killed except for Nemo, but he has a
defect because of this, giving him a small fin. Marlins wife Coral is killed in the confrontation.
He starts off by a hopeless chase of the boat that the scuba diver fled to after stealing young Nemo.
He then bumps into a fun loving, forgetful, little female fish named Dory, voiced by Ellen
DeGeneres. Dory has a memory loss problem, and tells Marlin she saw the boat, but forgets about
meeting Marlin. Dory then tags along with Marlin and helps search for Nemo. The duo then find

Analysis Of Singing In The Rain
Singin In The Rain Critique 2 (Theatre) The stage adaptation of the renowned motion picture,
Singin In The Rain, is currently featuring out of the Zach Theatre in Austin, TX. Based on the
1952 film starring Gene Kelly and Debby Reynolds, it is regarded as one of the greatest musicals
in history. The screenplay seemed to be based verbatim on that of the original picture s. Prior to my
investment of the act, it was evident that this production had great expectations to meet, and it
would be a challenge to align with these standards and capture the essence and imagery of the
original. Zach Theatres production exceeds this quality, and delivers righteously, tastefully
recreating the legendary picture. The direction, choreography, and acting did not spare difficulties,
and there was enough invention to bring this old time production into the modern age to intrigue
and entertain those of all ages. The actors impeccably resembled the original ensemble and
characters, which immortalized each song and dance, as most would have remembered it. Luke
Hawkins, who portrayed Don Lockwood, carried the cast with his perfected impersonation and
tactical movements, combining elements of tap and swing. Supporting Hawkins, portraying Cosmo
Brown and Kathy Selden, were Sasha Hutchings and Blake Spellacy. All were a joy to watch and
indefinitely provided the audiencewith the required ambience, aura, and appeal that would be a
cultivation of that glamorous appeal. The modern Don, Kathy, and

The Power Of Words In Words And Behavior, By Aldous Huxley
Words: so innocent and powerless. As they are, standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and
evil; they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them.
Why is it that the power of words can be the most influential impact in building our own reality?
The effects of well chosen words have the power to inform, influence, educate and entertain others.
Their powers are expressed effectively and emotionally in stories, poems, and essays. Words are
what we use to express our self, our thoughts and our feelings. In Words and Behavior, written by
Aldous Huxley, he used multiple literary devices and manages to convey a tone of sophistication.
Huxley s usage of literary devices is so vast that some noticed immediately, while others after ...

At the beginning of his essay, he is comparing the behavior between animals and humans. With
the example of how cats at the spur of the moment, show a sign of hatred to towards another,
while humans, who have a way of expressing themselves act the complete same. The contrast that
Huxley is drawing is that animals don t have a sense of words, they cannot speak and that is the
reasoning to why they react to certain situations. He compares humans to animals since when we
are put in certain situations, we react without thinking about what we are doing, nor we express
how we are truly feeling. The author uses contrast throughout the entire essay and begins to
intertwine the contrast between animals and humans with how words contrast the meaning of
war. Huxley uses the contrast to demonstrate to his readers that yes, animals and humans are very
well alike because humans act like animals when it comes to certain emotions. He tries to make
the point that humans are intelligent compared to animals and we have one of the strongest
powers ever and that is our speech. Feeling and desire provide us with our motive power; words
give continuity to what we do and to a considerable extent determine our direction no matter what
we say or do our words do have

Disaster Of A Subduction Zone
1. Introduction On Friday March 11th, 2011 at 2:46 pm, the fifth largest earthquake recorded since
1900 with a magnitude of 9.0, 1.7 Richter scale points greater than the devastating Vancouver Island
earthquake of 1946, struck the coast of Japan, 231 miles northeast of Tokyo1, causing a devastating
regional and global catastrophe.
1.1 Megathrust Earthquakes Megathrust earthquakes are defined as interplate earthquakes caused
by one tectonic plate being forced under another in a subduction zone. During the lifetime of a
subduction zone, two plates are constantly moving towards each other, and due to the great amount
of friction, these plates get stuck in various areas 2 (fig 1). Due to the build up of stress in these
areas, the plates eventually unlock and release a great amount of energy, resulting in a megathrust
earthquake2.
1.2 Tsunamis Since these earthquakes are caused by tectonic plate movement therefore displacing
the ocean floor they are almost always accompanied by massive ocean waves, sometimes reaching
heights of over 100 ft and reaching speeds of 500 mph, known as seismic sea waves or more
commonly known as Tsunamis4. Alongside the catastrophic events that megathrust earthquakes
ensue on an affected region these colossal Tsunamiwaves further destruct costal lines in their path,
sometimes reaching many miles inland.

Short Essay On The Island Of The Sea
The smell of the salty sea air greeted Harry when he walked the deck of his ship. He watched the
seagulls flying overhead with a small smile. He wore motley drawers tucked into his leather day
boots. With his red hip sash tied around his waist, and his bandanna on his head he set to work.
He had to keep the ship ruining by himself, due to being a one man crew. With ease born from
repeated routine, Harry climbed the rigging rope up the mast to check on the sails. Hades was a
two masted vessel, square rigged on both masts. She was an old style ship but Hades only ten year
older than Harry.

together to solve the case. How they functioned was by having a call; without seconds of delay,
they were on the case, then a half hour later the case was solved. Everyone went home, the end, life

publicly referred to the Amazon.com mission statement as the guiding force behind his leadership

Arthur And Arthur Without Arthur
He had never returned after Arthur died. The king was dead and gone, so how could he possibly
unite Albion in that state?
Merlin doesn t quite remember what happened in the first few weeks. He has vague recollections
of himself screaming at the lake, at the forest, giving in to his grief and anger with destruction. He
d come to his senses, eventually, when he d nearly killed a passing farm girl by felling a tree in her
path.
Then, disgusted with himself, he d decided it d be safer for everyone if he just stayed away from
anyone.
He hadn t planned on coming back. A month ago, he was still dead set on that plan. But then he d
realized something.
Yes, Arthur might be gone, but Camelotwas not. It wasn t fair of him to just give up on everything
he and Arthur had built. Arthur would have wanted his kingdom to thrive after his death, and
Merlin... Merlin should have wanted the same thing.
Which he did, but he d wanted his best friend alive and well even more so.
And besides, a Camelot without Arthur hadn t seemed right. It probably never would, to Merlin.
It would probably never seem right to Guinevere, either, but she was a wise and compassionate
ruler. She had made strong allies of the other kingdoms, and peace reigned in the land. She had
even declared magic legal, and Merlin was sure there must be a sorcerer or two amongst her council.
She had proven herself stronger than Merlin. She had not given up on the kingdom; she had not run

The Role Of Overt Racism In Nova Scotia
Othering is where a group of people are treated intrinsically differently to maintain the social
prominence of the in group , Caucasian Canadians in Nova Scotia treated African Nova Scotians
differently to allow themselves to still have control over African Nova Scotians. Though slavery
had been abolished there was still segregation, racismand discrimination happening to African Nova
Scotians. The othering method in Nova Scotia resulted in the mistreatment of Africville civilians,
racist stereotyping and education being withheld from African Nova Scotians.

In Nova Scotia, African Nova Scotians did not have the same rights as Caucasian Canadians,
these rights that African Nova Scotians were denied of were the right to vote, employment and
even the right to the access of public places dominated by Caucasians. This overt racism allowed
Caucasian Canadians to limit and control everything African Nova Scotians could and could not
do. One of the largest forms of overt racism to happen within Nova Scotia, Canada was the
mistreatment and destruction of Africville. Africville was a settlement in Bedford Basin, Halifax
and it was founded in 1840 by African refugees and their descendants who came to Canada. The
destruction and mistreatment of Africville and its residents is a monumental example of racism at
work in Canadian history; it had a devastating effect on the black community, most people believe
that the destruction of Africville was an unfortunate incident that was born of a necessary and
humanitarian effort however, the destruction of Africville was not only planned for years but the
Halifax city council and those in power at the time within Halifax slowly throughout the years
destroyed the land and homes of Africville. During the nineteenth century Halifax began to
expand more, industries and businesses began to infringe on Africville property, the establishment
of the Nova Scotia Railway Company in 1853 resulted in the early demolition of several homes as
rail lines were built through the community this demolition of homes showed that companies and
industries saw Africville not as a community where people lived but a potential building space for
their needs and it was also the beginning of many occasions where the Halifax council and
businesses used Africville as their own source for expansion. In the 1870s Halifax built an
infectious disease hospital and then later added a trachoma hospital, these hospitals were on

The Color In The Great Gatsby
YELLOW Wilson s Garage: The color yellow is considered to be the unauthentic version of
gold. As previously stated, gold is a color of richness and value which is why we it is clearly
visible in the Gatsby household. Yellow on the other hand, is quite inferior when compared to the
standards of gold. In contrast to Jordan, the golden girl, her admirers are merely, two girls in twin
yellowdresses. (Fitzgerald.47) They are so unimportant that they aren t even called by their names.
They are simply labeled as, one of the girls in yellow, (Fitzgerald.47) even though one, [plays] the

While many would connect the color grey with George, the irrelevant individual who never lived

(Fitzgerald.4) revealing that although he might seem content on the outside, he is melancholy

George truly was. He was surrounded by wealthy people living in the luscious lands of West and

Patrick Burke s thesis is found towards the end of the first section. He stated he will argue that the
Airplane s references to black culture and politics were multifaceted and involved both
condescending or naГЇve radical posturing and sincere respect for African American music. (66)
He discussed the first part of his thesis in the majority of his article. In one example of this, Burke
states it was difficult to tell if Jefferson Airplane were making fun of stereotypes or simply
perpetuating them. (74) In another example, Burke stated that Airplane would casually refer to
African Americans as a derogatory term in their interviews. His explanation for this was it may

but instead exemplified the frequent emptiness and arrogance of rock s politics.

Ronald Reag The President Of The United States
Introduction
Ronald Reagan (1911 2004) was the 40th president of the United States of America from January
20, 1981 to January 20, 1989. He was a Republican and served two terms in office. He is considered
by many people as one of the greatest presidents in American history. Section 1 of this paper
begins by explaining why Reagan is considered a great president by many people, and also gives
some background information on the state of the economy he had inherited. Section 2 reflects on
Reagan s domestic record, in particular three negative economic consequences that resulted from
his policies and occurred during his presidency. Section 3 considers two aspects of Reagan s

There are five main reasons why Reagan is admired by large segments of the American public.
Firstly, he is considered to have been a staunch patriot and a charismatic leader (Spinrad, 1991).
These qualities were needed in a president at the time due to the influence of the Soviet Union and
the threat of communism. It was also important due to Americans being demoralised from the
failure in Vietnam. Secondly, the six months leading up to the end of his second term were
characterised by increased cooperation with the Soviet Union s Mikhail Gorbachev to reform the
union. It eventually resulted in the total collapse of the Soviet Union and Reagan is credited for
assisting in the eradication of the communist threat. The third, and more controversial reason for
Reagan s popularity, is the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project funded by conservative Americans
(Norquist, n.d.). The project aims to instil the legacy of Reagan by lobbying to name buildings,
roads, and landmarks after the president. This boosts the image and prestige of the president in the
eyes of the people, especially for people who did not live during his presidency or do not know
much about him.
The fourth reason for Reagan s popularity is that he is perceived to have drastically improved the
US economy and lives of Americans. One of the ways to understand this is by comparing the
shape of the US economy when he took office to its shape when he left. The US

Great Depression Impact
The Impact of the Great Depression The Great Depression was a very influential era in
American history, affecting many future generations. One of the most prevalent impacts it had
on society was the extreme poverty that swept across the nation, affecting both people in cities
and in the country. The main cause for this poverty was the mass loss of jobs among the middle
class. Millions lost their jobs and consequently their homes. Families lived out of tents and cars
in shanty towns or Hoovervilles. In these camps, many people didn t have their basic human
needs met, children and adults alike starved. They lived in clothes that were caked in dirt and
tattered, too small for growing children and too cold for the frail elderly. Government relief
programs attempted to help but offered little support to the now impoverished families of the
millions that lost everything. The spread of poverty began with the loss of jobs. Companies
could no longer afford to keep their employees and many Americans were laid off as businesses
went under. Once someone lost their job, it was near impossible to find a new one. Some
government programs attempted to provide jobs for people, but they only had a limited number of
spots and they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People lost the ability to pay for things they once owned. People bought many things on margin
in the years before the depression, they soon found this to be a rather unwise practice as they
could no longer afford these purchases once the depression hit. Millions were out a job, and soon
their homes followed; foreclosed on by the banks, the items they once purchased sold back. This
left many families with little possessions and even fewer places to turn to and many ended up in
shanty towns and Hoovervilles. There they lived out of cars and in makeshift tents like the family

Boston Tea Party Analysis
What happened after the Boston Tea Party The article The Spirt of 74 written by Ray Raphael
discusses the problem that arose after the Boston Tea Party. The Boston Tea Party was a major
event in history that showed that the colonists were happy with the high taxes on tea. They formed
a group called the Sons of Liberty and dressed like Native Americans and threw crates of tea into
the BostonHarbor. This was a major because it showed that the colonists weren t going to let
Parliament put taxes on one of their major goods. However, the Sons of Liberty didn t thank of the
repercussions. The Boston Tea Partycaused severe conciseness to the citizens, such the Coercive
Act and MassachusettsGovernment Act.
Parliament was not pleased with how the citizens were reacting to the high taxes on tea by tossing
the precious tea in the harbor. The individuals that participated in the event didn t realize how their
actions would affect Worcester County and in the way they participated in government. Extreme
actions were taken place in the county. First the was passing of the Coercive Act, this act made a
Crown appointed governor be in charge of town meeting which was the main way Worcester
governed themselves. No town meetings could be held without the express consent of the Crown
appointed governor, who also needed to approve all agenda items. (Raphael 1). According to
Raphael, what parliament was doing was unconstitutional and officials had to stop what they were

Likewise, the previous Batman film, Batman Begins (2005), displays an overt preoccupation with
terrorism. From the use of fear as a weapon, to the plot to destroy Gotham s most iconic
skyscraper, the film allegorizes 9/11 in a way that is jarring in its bluntness.
These films, both co written and directed by Christopher Nolan, are not alone in their engagement
with modern day anxieties about terrorism. In the seven years following September 11th, 2001,
numerous novels, films, poems, plays, paintings and photographs have engaged the events in an
attempt to transmute emotional responses and historical fact into a cohesive narrative. Some, such

Perinatal Mental Health Midwife
Application for Temporary perinatal health midwife
There is increasing awareness of perinatal mental health as a public health issue. The Government
is keen for midwives to further develop their role in public health. Midwives need to be adequately
prepared to take on a more developed role in perinatal mental health if practice improvements are to
be made. I am aware that death from psychiatric causes has been the leading cause of maternal
death for the last few years. Although the most recent Confidential Enquiry into Maternal and Child
Health indicated that this is no longer a leading cause, mental health problems before and after
childbirth have a significant impact on the health of women, family relationships and children s

I am a naturally creative person who enjoys implementing evidence based practice change at a
strategic and operational level. I am very excited about the opportunity to be potentially involved
with designing an E learning package. Whilst working with other experts in this industry I have
gained some knowledge in the process of elearning development. I think that routine antenatal and
postnatal care present an excellent opportunity to screen the mental health of pregnant women
and women with a new baby. To do this effectively however, requires working more
collaboratively across different professions to meet the needs of our patients. Having the post of a
specialist midwife in mental health could allow me to provide focused care to pregnant women
with mental illness. This could include co morbid substance alcohol misuse problems. I envisage
the role as working closely with a perinatal psychiatry team at W.M.U.H and as an important point
of liaison between the other midwives, especially safeguarding and case loading midwives,
obstetricians, health visitors, child and family social services, obstetricians in the hospital, and
mental health services. A useful means to achieve partnership working would be for the S.M.M.H
to attend the weekly midwifery team meeting. Here, all midwifery community and labour ward
teams meet to discuss the caseload and update the antenatal progress notes. This provides a valuable
opportunity for potential referrals

This movie accurately shows us that Dory has Anterograde Amnesia. One specific scene where
this disorder is displayed is in the beginning when Dory s parents are telling her what to say
when she meets someone ( I suffer from short term memory loss). After this the parents act as if
they are random people and start playing hide and seek. When the parents tell her to count to 10,
she counts up to 3 and forgets what they are doing. She then wanders off to a group of fish and
their parents immediately chase after her. This scene accurately displays Anterograde Amnesia
since it shows us that Dory is unable to remember what is going on and then wanders off
elsewhere. Another scene where the disorder is displayed is when Dory can t remember where
her parents are as a result of accidentally losing them and then Dory asks a couple of fishes that
she needs help finding them, but forgets what she said and repeats the same thing again. This
shows that Dory s short term memory loss or Anterograde Amnesia causes her to forget where
her parents are and even makes herself look awkward when repeating a question that she already
asked. A third example of Dory displaying that she has Anterograde Amnesia is when she is
sleeping and then gets up to ask one of her friends a question but is said to go back to bed. When
she goes back to bed she decides to go ask a question not knowing she already said it

A Summary Of Finding Nemo
Watched by many, the movie Finding Nemo is a good movie for explaining Vygotsky s theories
because there is a wide variety of characters adults, children and even teachers. The adult characters
in the movie Finding Nemo portray the adolescence developmental stages, as explained by
Vygotsky. Many more of Vygotsky s theories are found in the movie. Some include the zone of
proximal development, egocentric speech, scaffolding, and scientific and spontaneous concepts.
Both being clown fish, Nemo and Marlin live in the ocean, in the anemone. Marlin is Nemo s
father who is viewed as being overprotective towards Nemo. Marlin portrays the characteristic of
being overprotective because while Nemo was in the egg as a baby, one of his fins was damaged.
Nemo, tired of his overprotective father decides that he wants to prove himself by swimming into
the open ocean. However, things do not turn out very well and Nemo is captured by a scuba diver.
Parenting instinct kick in, and Marlin immediately swims after the boat that is now carrying Nemo.
Marlin eventually loses sight of the boat, however throughout the duration of the movie, he
continues to look for his son Nemo. While on his journey to find Nemo, Marlin meets a blue tang
fish named Dory, who suffers from sort term memory loss (Stanton Unkrich,2003). With the help of
Dory, they are able to eventually find Nemo (Stanton Unkrich, 2003). Come

Pros And Cons Of European Exploration
In my opinion, the benefits of European exploration did not outweigh the consequences. To support
my opinion, this essay will include three topics that each show both pros and cons. Those topics
include the Columbian Exchange, Smallpox, and Columbus s voyages. First, the Columbian
Exchange took place between the old and new world. The old world gave the new world things
such as horses, pigs, and cows. They also gave the new world wheat, sugar, rice, and coffee. Also,
the Columbian Exchange resulted in cultural division. Lastly, the Columbian Exchange caused
many Native Americans to die from European diseases. Another reason that I think that the pros
don t outweigh the cons is that Smallpoxhad killed many people. Paragraph ne of

How Early Islamic Caliphates
The first three caliphates to rule after the death of Muhammad shaped the foundation for the growth
and development of the early Islamic community. The goal of the caliphates was to unify the
Islamic people and spread the word of Islam as far as they could. Although their main goal was the
same, the Rashidun Caliphate, the Umayyad Caliphate, and the Abbasid caliphate went about this
goal in separate ways. The different techniques used by each caliphate was dependent on the
individual caliphs. The treatment of groups of peoples inside the empires also differed between the
caliphates. The Rashidun Caliphate, the Umayyad Caliphate, and the Abbasid Caliphate each
employed styles of rule unique to their empires.
The Rashidun Caliphate was the first of the Islamic caliphates established after Muhammad s death.
After his death, the early Islamic community was almost torn apart due to a crisis of control. The
Rashidun caliphate had the important job of keeping the community together and growing without
the Prophet. Because of the Arab Islamic conquests, the Muslims gained large amounts of territory;
however, the Arab Muslim leaders did not have the experience that was needed to rule an empire.
In The Rise of Islam, Matthew Gordon writes, a fundamental challenge for the caliphs, their
governors, and the Arab military elite was to understand how large scale agrarian economies
functioned (28). In order to rule an empire, the authority of the Rashidun caliphs had to be
legitimized.

Greek Architecture Essay
Characteristics of Greek Architecture:
INTRODUCTION:
Instead of covering nearly every bit of space with ornament, as the Egyptians did, the Greeks
selected only the best places for it, and thus gave it its proper effect. The decorations, especially the
sculptures, were one of the chief features of a Greek temple. Besides their temples the Greeks built
many theaters which may be studied from their ruins, but of their dwelling houses almost nothing
remains to us.
The Greek style is noted for the repose, harmony, and proportion of its effect. These are terms we
might use in speaking of a painting, but they relate to the composition of a building which is, in
many respects, similar to the composition of a picture. In selecting his ... Show more content on

The most important of the Ionic temples left to us is the Erechtheum at Athens. It differs from other
temples in its irregularity. This makes it doubly interesting for it shows that although the Greeks
nearly always adhered to one simple form, they could dispense with it when they wished. In the
Erechtheum, they wished to provide for several shrines in one building, and under one roof. The
irregularity they have made so beautiful and interesting that it is a wonder they did not repeat the
idea many times in other structures. Its two colonnades of different designs, its remarkable north
doorway, and the famous caryatid porch to the south are unsurpassed. Another temple, that of
Artemis (Diana) at Ephesus, was known as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
THE GREEK CORINTHIAN ORDER:
This is the most ornate of the classical orders, and the most slender in its proportions. The capital
is shaped somewhat like a bell inverted, and is adorned with rows of acanthus leaves. A great
example of the, third, or Corinthian order is the monument of Lysicrates at Athens.
Straight is the line of duty.
Curved is the line of beauty
Follow the one and it shall be; The other shall always follow thee.
For such reasons, Greek architecture was called Intellectual .

Why it is important to When working with Children is it always important to design a service to

Services that have been put in place are good for the benefit for the Children when they start at a

Children begin to recognize their skills and how to use them. For an example, in the toddler

mark making on the paper and realize they are drawing on paper. They created a picture! The
holistic education is also important to the Children because they can learn through their play. They

Concept Of Absolute Purchasing Power Parity
Introduction and significance of the research question
Does the concept absolute purchasing power parity (PPP) stay true that the goods in one country
should cost the same in another country after implying the exchange rates? (For example, the
pound cost of imported goods should be the same as the price of the same goods being sold in the
UK). Absolute purchasing power parity is a concept with the assumption of goods having the same
price after exchange rates between countries. However, I want to find out if this is always true or
not since it plays an important role that differentiates from the relative purchasing power parity .
There is an assumption that if there are any deviations in the price in one of the two countries, then
the exchange rate and the relative prices should adjust to accommodate, equating to the level where
the basket of goods have the same price in these two countries (Moffatt, 2014).
The data and methodology
I will be comparing exchange rates between two countries, these are the UK (ВЈ) and the USA ($)
to see if the changes are enough to make any differences or whether just negligible. I will select
data from the year 1980 to 2015 in yearly intervals. Comparing each year with the previous year.
These will be compared using Excel and Minitab and displayed as a simple linear regression model.
The absolute PPP should mean that ERt = ERt 1 + u.
I will be using the formula ERt = a0 +bERt 1 + u = 0 and comparing that with the traditional ef =

The Challenges Of The Home Furniture Store Industry
Jainam Shah While disruption and innovation within traditional industries has drastically altered
the underlying business environment, one industry has largely been left behind: furniture. The U.S.
home furniture store industry is extremely concentrated, with 50 of the largest U.S. stores
accounting for 75 percent of the industry revenue. Until recently, incumbent furniture retailers have
managed to avoid disruption because of the complexity involved in the supply chain, scale
advantages and unit economics of delivery that make it expensive for startups to compete. As a
result, furniture shopping remains a cumbersome, impersonal and a one size fits all experience with
consumers being exposed to delivery delays, retail markups and middlemen. However, Tylko aims
to radically modernize key parts of the designer furniture industry from manufacturing, designing,
customisability to the eventual delivery and effectively replace mass produced furniture with mass
customized furniture. Tylko offers fully customizable furniture products ranging from tables to
totem mills through their IOS app which enables consumers to alter the style and dimensions of
furniture digitally. It hopes to provide a better solution to the tedious method of measuring spaces
and visiting furniture stores to find perfectly fitting furniture. Instead, the Tylko app uses

Body Dysmorphic Disorder Essay
Body Dysmorphic Disorder
People now a days have a problem with the way they appear. For hundreds of years, people,
especially females, have been concerned with their weight, the way they look, and the way people
perceive them. In the article, Do You Have a Body Image Problem? author Dr. Katharine A. Phillips
discusses the concerns with body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). Dr. Phillips uses her knowledge or
ethics to discuss the effects that BDD has on people today. She also uses emotion to show the reader
how people are seriously affected by this disorder. In Dr. Phillips article, she discusses how people

Five million is way too many people that are overly concerned with their weight and their
appearance. People with BDD may sit in front of mirror for hours before they feel confident
enough to leave their house. BDD makes people lose their social relationships since they do not
feel confident enough to approach people.
The article Do You Have a Body Image Problem? was found on the Internet. The web page that
contained Dr. Phillips information seemed to have good ethos. This web site had a good ethical
appeal because of Dr. Phillips title as a doctor. This web site was sponsored by Women.com,
which is a reliable website and also plays a role in the ethical appeal. Who would know better
about an image problem and an eating disorder than a female? A doctor also writes the article,
which is a reliable source. In my eyes, a doctor would know more about a medical condition than
any other profession. Not only does this article and web page use ethos, it also uses pathos.
Pathos is a rhetorical technique that uses social and emotional appeals to get the author s
purpose across. The first thing that you see when the web page comes up is a picture of a cover
of a book. On the cover is a picture of somebody, assuming a female, covering her face with her
hands. The title of the book The Broken Mirror gives the reader the impression that this person on

Buddies is a short film about a terrified, dust bunny who must rescue his ill fated friends from a

want to vacuum. Second, we believe the food trail leads us to something hideous and nasty, but it
s not. They re tiny, cute, and hungry dust bunnies. What s remarkable, is that one dust bunny, the
runt, is reluctant to leave his shelter, under a table. It s genius, the vacuum can only go so far, so
he gets food by using an open paperclip tool to stab crackers, dropped just outside his safe haven.

buddy barely escape death, then seek revenge to battle the maid, who was just doing her job.
Poor thing. Created by Beth Tomashek and Sam Wade, Dust Buddies, will suck you in to the
danger and intrigue of a tiny dust ball gathering his courage to save his friends. The animation has
superb detail, down to the editing. The intercuts were perfection, strengthening the level of intrigue
and threat. The colors are a bright and brilliant. The French accordion, gave the film a feeling of
blissful relaxation and the symphony took us on a roller coaster of danger and suspense. Well

  • 2. Taking a Look Inside a System on Chip (SOP) Essay Embedded platforms were initially composed of separate discrete components. The processor was a separate component with just a memory bus interface, and all peripherals were attached to this bus. As integration levels increase, more and more logic is added to the processor die, creating families of application specific service processors. The term system on chip (SOC) is often used to describe these highly integrated processors. These SOCs include much of the logic and interfaces that are required for a range of specific target applications. The silicon vendors that develop these SOC devices often create families of SOCs all using the same processor core, but with a wide range of integrated capabilities. SOCs integrate capabilities to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to its very high level of integration and much shorter wiring, an SoC also uses considerably less power again, this is a big bonus when it comes to mobile computing. Cutting down on the number of physical chips means that it s much cheaper to build a computer using an SoC, too. The only real disadvantage of an SoC is a complete lack of flexibility. With your PC, you can put in a new CPU, GPU, or RAM at any time you cannot do the same for your smartphone. In the future you might be able to buy SoCs that you can slot in, but because everything is integrated this will be wasteful and expensive if you only want to add more RAM. The most fundamental characteristic of an SoC is complexity. A memory chip may have many transistors, but its regular structure makes it a component and not a system. Exactly what components are assembled on the SoC varies with the application. Many SoCs contain analog and mixed signal circuitry for input/output (I/O). Although some high performance I/O applications require a separate analog interface chip that serves as a companion to a digital SoC, most of an SoC is digital because that is the only way to build such complex functions reliably. The system may contain memory, instruction set processors (central processing units [CPUs]), specialized logic, busses, and other digital functions. The architecture of the system is generally tailored to the application rather than being a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Brandon Teena Story Sociology The film The Brandon Teena Story followed the story of Teena Brandon s, who went by the name Brandon, death in Nebraska. Brandon lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, as a male, despite him being born as a female, at the start of the film. The audience was informed that Brandon had been behaving, acting, and living as a male for years. Brandon s mother, Joann Brandon, had previously sent Brandon to counseling to treat his attempts and ideas about suicide, and presumably his gender dysphoria. However, after returning from counseling, Brandon s want of being of manwas only solidified. In the middle of November 1993, Brandon moved to Falls City Nebraska. It was in Falls City, Nebraska where Brandon met and befriended ex convicts Tom Nissen and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A gender ideology is a set of ideas widely shared by members of a society that guides identities, behaviors, and institutions (Wade, et. al. 2015). Until Brandon s sex was discovered, almost everyone that he interacted with daily believed that he was a male from birth. Nobody really questioned Brandon s gender or sex because they believed that he exemplified the typical idea of a man. In the film, Brandon s friends and ex girlfriends all described him as a male based mostly on Brandon s gender expression, looks, and hobbies. The people in the film all described how Brandon would wear clothes for men, sit with his legs open, and talk about girls and cars. Even Nissen s sister described how one time her, Brandon, and others, were in a van and Brandon had to go to the bathroom and tried to pee out of a window. All of these factors made up the people who Brandon interacted with schemas about gender. Nobody ever thought about Brandon maybe being a female because their cultural lens, a male does everything Brandon does, so he is a male. This concept also shows up later in the film when Brandon was questioned by a woman about whether he was truly a male. The deciding factor for this woman on whether Brandon was a man or not, was determined by if he had a penis. This woman s idea of a traditional man involved a penis; so if Brandon did not have one Brandon could not have been a man. However, the woman, because of her pre existing conceptions, she did not think that maybe one does not need a penis to be a male. For example, disregarding transsexuals and transgendered people, a male could have been castrated, effectively removing his penis. However, just because his penis is gone, he is usually still seen as a male. Castration of males was done throughout history whether it was Chinese or Roman Slaves (Tougher 2013), or as a dedication to one s religion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Nick Carraway Mature In The Great Gatsby In The Great Gatsby written by Scott F Fitzgerald, we meet a plethora of characters all displaying traits of one who has not matured yet. The Great Gatsby follows the story of a man who is infatuated with a reckless woman and the drama that follows. Nick Carraway is our narrator and one of the main characters, he spends much of his time observing the mistakes and everyday lives of the other characters. Even though he is an adult, Nick does grow in maturity and insight throughout the course of the novel as he is drawn into a lifestyle completely foreign to him. Nick is, in fact, the only dynamic character in the novel. He introduces us to the others, through his clear and unbiased view on things. We meet Daisy Buchanan who is a mysteriously ... All of these things are results of his compulsive optimism and idealism. His immature ideals cannot be sustained in reality. As Nick tells us, there are only the pursued, the pursuing, the busy, and the tired . • 8. Declaration Of Faith Research Paper Faith is far from being easy. If your faith is placed in something you can t see, then it s usually hard to act on that faith unless you are deeply rooted and involved in it. Actions prove how much faith you have. Without proof, your declaration of faith does not mean much. Abraham is an exceptionally worthy example of faith in God. I admire Abraham s faith for many reasons. First, he wasn t from a family that adopted faith in God. His family was pagan and didn t have faith in God in the first place. Logically, Abraham had no foundation of belief either, unless he had strong faith in the power of God. He could either choose to live in comfortable harmony with his relatives, without provoking his family by turning on their religion, or he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... God gives gifts, and if it is His will, He takes them away. Abraham had been promised that he would be a father of many nations, and even though it seemed impossible at the time, Isaac was born. Now, the majority of people would be overjoyed and delighted at such a miracle from God. Abraham must have prized his child and loved him intensely, but then his faith was tested again. God asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, which was something that must have broken Abraham s heart to do. He had waited so long to receive God s promise of a son, and now it was apparently being taken away from him. He had already trusted God immensely, even though he had occasionally proved irresolute, but this might have seemed like a complete contraction of God s promise and character. How could he be a father of many nations without a son? Why would a just and fair God command him to sacrifice a child that he loved? It doesn t quite make sense when you think about it, but God does have a plan in the end. Nevertheless, only a meager amount of people would follow through with this act of supreme submission and faith. Abraham was stalwart in his faith, however, and God rewarded him by not letting him kill Isaac. Abraham had faith in God s power rather than the gift God had given him, and in the end it showed that God was in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Improving End-of-Life Care in The United States Essay Death comes to all in the end, shrouded in mystery, occasionally bringing with it pain, and while some may welcome its finality, others may fight it with every ounce of their strength. Humans have throughout the centuries created death rituals to bring them peace and healing after the death of a loved one. Deaths were a form of social event, when families and loved ones would gather around the bed of the dying, offering emotional support and comfort. Myth, religion, and tradition would combine to give the event deeper meaning and ease the transition for all involved. The one who was dying was confident in knowing what lay behind the veil of death, thanks to religious faith or tradition. His or her community held fast to the sense of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Fine et al. 596). The two primary forms of care administered at the end of life are palliative care and hospice. Palliative care is intended to treat the symptoms of illness as well as address the individual s spiritual, financial, emotional, and social needs. Hospice care enables terminally ill individuals and their families to maintain dignity and spend their final days in a comfortable environment. Palliative care may provide support for the individual s social support network. While palliative care is often offered as end of life care, it may also be offered during any serious illness to ease the burden of that illness, whether or not that illness is considered terminal. ( Palliative Care 1) Patients with chronic or life threatening illnesses may turn to palliative care for its symptom relieving benefits as well as its ability to improve their quality of life. A key factor in quality palliative care is effective communication between medical professionals and the patient as well as the patient s caretakers. Pain management, continuity of care among caretakers and medical providers, and concentration on the patient s personal preference are all major aspects of palliative care. Good palliative care should begin with a discussion on advanced care directives, preferably initiated by a physician. (Fine, et al. 595, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay On The Matrix As we grew up, and got into a more understanding stage as a kid, we always have questioned everything that comes new to us, with the, five W s, (when, where, why, who and what). We experienced new things like, different hobbies, food, traveling to new places, etc. As we enter the teenage years, we think our main goal in life is to, go to school, graduate, school again, graduate and finally our dream job, but life isn t that easy isn t? Life involves money, dealing with people, meeting new people, drama and other struggling situations. Life is not easy because many things come one it. Watching The Matrixgave me a real life lesson and made me more open minded about life that can help anybody. I believe The Matrix answers some questions concerning serious life issues like, self doubting, taking revenge and taking a new path into your life. Self doubting makes us feel unwanted and unbelieving on your self when it comes to any situation. Taking revenge only takes place when somebody is mad at one another by mostly being jealous. Taking a new path may be a start to something better, and start understanding what you re here for. In The Matrix , Morpheusfinds Neo because he knows he is the one. After Morpheus find him and tells him you re the one , Neo is confused and wants more answers. Morpheus gives Neo two options to take the blue pill or the red pill. Which type would be most likely used for building the piers to support a large suspension bridge. Why? Two basic types of competitively bid construction contracts are lump sum and the unit price contract. The lump sum contract is when the contractor agrees to complete all work for a pre determined price including profit and the contract. The unit price contract is when the contractor quotes work on units separately instead of entire project. Price is based on units of work performed, and cost varies depending on the quantities of units. Building the piers to support a large suspension bridge will... Cost + percent of cost is the method of payment which is related to the cost of the job, the larger the cost of the job the higher the amount of fee that is to be paid by the owner. There is a little incentive to be efficient and economical in the construction but is subjected to abuse. Cost + fixed fee is paid regardless of the variation of the reimbursable cost factor. This method gives contractors an incentive to get the job done as quickly as possible in order to recover his fee over the shortest time frame. 5. What is meant by unbalancing bid? What type of contract is implied? Give an example of how a bid is unbalanced. A bid is unbalanced when some contractors use this method to profit greatly on a project. Contractors do this by changing unit prices of various bid items to the point where the price does not reflect the true cost of those items. The unit price contract is implied to an unbalancing bid. An example of how a bid could be unbalanced occurs when a contractor uses the method of unstable bidding by overbidding in the beginning of the contract in order to reduce his finances and then will underbid at the end of the project. 6. Why is cost plus a percentage of cost type of contract not used to a great extent? A cost plus, is a fixed price contract where the contractor paid for all the allowed expenses to certain limit ... • 13. The Difference Between Civil Rights And Civil Rights I noted that the U.S. civil liberties, as well as, U.S. civil rights are generally located in the first ten amendments to the Constitution, known as the Bill of Rights, as well as, the Fourteenth Amendment. The distinction between civil liberties and civil rights is blurred since the concepts are used interchangeably, even though they refer to different kinds of guaranteed protections. Civil liberties are protections against government actions. Whereas civil rightsrefer to positive actions governments should take to create equal conditions. The primary objective of this essay is to distinguish between civil rights and civil liberties. In this essay, I present a case related to the civil right to free expression or creation of equal conditions in forum 4.1. Whereas in forum 4.2 I present a provision of the US Patriot Act related to civil liberties or protections against federal government action. Analysis Of Singing In The Rain Singin In The Rain Critique 2 (Theatre) The stage adaptation of the renowned motion picture, Singin In The Rain, is currently featuring out of the Zach Theatre in Austin, TX. Based on the 1952 film starring Gene Kelly and Debby Reynolds, it is regarded as one of the greatest musicals in history. The screenplay seemed to be based verbatim on that of the original picture s. Prior to my investment of the act, it was evident that this production had great expectations to meet, and it would be a challenge to align with these standards and capture the essence and imagery of the original. Zach Theatres production exceeds this quality, and delivers righteously, tastefully recreating the legendary picture. The direction, choreography, and acting did not spare difficulties, and there was enough invention to bring this old time production into the modern age to intrigue and entertain those of all ages. The actors impeccably resembled the original ensemble and characters, which immortalized each song and dance, as most would have remembered it. Luke Hawkins, who portrayed Don Lockwood, carried the cast with his perfected impersonation and tactical movements, combining elements of tap and swing. Supporting Hawkins, portraying Cosmo Brown and Kathy Selden, were Sasha Hutchings and Blake Spellacy. All were a joy to watch and indefinitely provided the audiencewith the required ambience, aura, and appeal that would be a cultivation of that glamorous appeal. The modern Don, Kathy, and ... • 16. The Power Of Words In Words And Behavior, By Aldous Huxley Words: so innocent and powerless. As they are, standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil; they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them. Why is it that the power of words can be the most influential impact in building our own reality? The effects of well chosen words have the power to inform, influence, educate and entertain others. Their powers are expressed effectively and emotionally in stories, poems, and essays. Words are what we use to express our self, our thoughts and our feelings. In Words and Behavior, written by Aldous Huxley, he used multiple literary devices and manages to convey a tone of sophistication. With the example of how cats at the spur of the moment, show a sign of hatred to towards another, while humans, who have a way of expressing themselves act the complete same. The contrast that Huxley is drawing is that animals don t have a sense of words, they cannot speak and that is the reasoning to why they react to certain situations. He compares humans to animals since when we are put in certain situations, we react without thinking about what we are doing, nor we express how we are truly feeling. The author uses contrast throughout the entire essay and begins to intertwine the contrast between animals and humans with how words contrast the meaning of war. Huxley uses the contrast to demonstrate to his readers that yes, animals and humans are very well alike because humans act like animals when it comes to certain emotions. He tries to make the point that humans are intelligent compared to animals and we have one of the strongest powers ever and that is our speech. Introduction On Friday March 11th, 2011 at 2:46 pm, the fifth largest earthquake recorded since 1900 with a magnitude of 9.0, 1.7 Richter scale points greater than the devastating Vancouver Island earthquake of 1946, struck the coast of Japan, 231 miles northeast of Tokyo1, causing a devastating regional and global catastrophe. 1.1 Megathrust Earthquakes Megathrust earthquakes are defined as interplate earthquakes caused by one tectonic plate being forced under another in a subduction zone. During the lifetime of a subduction zone, two plates are constantly moving towards each other, and due to the great amount of friction, these plates get stuck in various areas 2 (fig 1). Due to the build up of stress in these areas, the plates eventually unlock and release a great amount of energy, resulting in a megathrust earthquake2. 1.2 Tsunamis Since these earthquakes are caused by tectonic plate movement therefore displacing the ocean floor they are almost always accompanied by massive ocean waves, sometimes reaching heights of over 100 ft and reaching speeds of 500 mph, known as seismic sea waves or more commonly known as Tsunamis4. Alongside the catastrophic events that megathrust earthquakes ensue on an affected region these colossal Tsunamiwaves further destruct costal lines in their path, sometimes reaching many miles inland. 1.3 Report Aim This report will outline the environmental and societal impacts of the Tohoku ... These qualities were needed in a president at the time due to the influence of the Soviet Union and the threat of communism. It was also important due to Americans being demoralised from the failure in Vietnam. Secondly, the six months leading up to the end of his second term were characterised by increased cooperation with the Soviet Union s Mikhail Gorbachev to reform the union. It eventually resulted in the total collapse of the Soviet Union and Reagan is credited for assisting in the eradication of the communist threat. The third, and more controversial reason for Reagan s popularity, is the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project funded by conservative Americans (Norquist, n.d.). The project aims to instil the legacy of Reagan by lobbying to name buildings, roads, and landmarks after the president. This boosts the image and prestige of the president in the eyes of the people, especially for people who did not live during his presidency or do not know much about him. One of the most prevalent impacts it had on society was the extreme poverty that swept across the nation, affecting both people in cities and in the country. Families lived out of tents and cars in shanty towns or Hoovervilles. In these camps, many people didn t have their basic human needs met, children and adults alike starved. They lived in clothes that were caked in dirt and tattered, too small for growing children and too cold for the frail elderly. Government relief programs attempted to help but offered little support to the now impoverished families of the millions that lost everything. The spread of poverty began with the loss of jobs. The goal of the caliphates was to unify the Islamic people and spread the word of Islam as far as they could. Although their main goal was the same, the Rashidun Caliphate, the Umayyad Caliphate, and the Abbasid caliphate went about this goal in separate ways. The different techniques used by each caliphate was dependent on the individual caliphs. The treatment of groups of peoples inside the empires also differed between the caliphates. The Rashidun Caliphate, the Umayyad Caliphate, and the Abbasid Caliphate each employed styles of rule unique to their empires. The Rashidun Caliphate was the first of the Islamic caliphates established after Muhammad s death. After his death, the early Islamic community was almost torn apart due to a crisis of control. The Rashidun caliphate had the important job of keeping the community together and growing without the Prophet. Because of the Arab Islamic conquests, the Muslims gained large amounts of territory; however, the Arab Muslim leaders did not have the experience that was needed to rule an empire. In The Rise of Islam, Matthew Gordon writes, a fundamental challenge for the caliphs, their governors, and the Arab military elite was to understand how large scale agrarian economies functioned (28). In the Erechtheum, they wished to provide for several shrines in one building, and under one roof. The irregularity they have made so beautiful and interesting that it is a wonder they did not repeat the idea many times in other structures. • 52. The Challenges Of The Home Furniture Store Industry Jainam Shah While disruption and innovation within traditional industries has drastically altered the underlying business environment, one industry has largely been left behind: furniture. The U.S. home furniture store industry is extremely concentrated, with 50 of the largest U.S. stores accounting for 75 percent of the industry revenue. Until recently, incumbent furniture retailers have managed to avoid disruption because of the complexity involved in the supply chain, scale advantages and unit economics of delivery that make it expensive for startups to compete. As a result, furniture shopping remains a cumbersome, impersonal and a one size fits all experience with consumers being exposed to delivery delays, retail markups and middlemen. However, Tylko aims to radically modernize key parts of the designer furniture industry from manufacturing, designing, customisability to the eventual delivery and effectively replace mass produced furniture with mass customized furniture. Tylko offers fully customizable furniture products ranging from tables to totem mills through their IOS app which enables consumers to alter the style and dimensions of furniture digitally. People with BDD may sit in front of mirror for hours before they feel confident enough to leave their house. BDD makes people lose their social relationships since they do not feel confident enough to approach people. The article Do You Have a Body Image Problem? was found on the Internet. The web page that contained Dr. Phillips information seemed to have good ethos. This web site had a good ethical appeal because of Dr. Phillips title as a doctor. This web site was sponsored by Women.com, which is a reliable website and also plays a role in the ethical appeal. Who would know better about an image problem and an eating disorder than a female? A doctor also writes the article, which is a reliable source. In my eyes, a doctor would know more about a medical condition than any other profession. Not only does this article and web page use ethos, it also uses pathos. Pathos is a rhetorical technique that uses social and emotional appeals to get the author s purpose across. The first thing that you see when the web page comes up is a picture of a cover of a book. On the cover is a picture of somebody, assuming a female, covering her face with her hands. The opening of the animated feature leads us to a trail of crumbs. First, we want to vacuum. Second, we believe the food trail leads us to something hideous and nasty, but it s not. They re tiny, cute, and hungry dust bunnies. What s remarkable, is that one dust bunny, the runt, is reluctant to leave his shelter, under a table. It s genius, the vacuum can only go so far, so he gets food by using an open paperclip tool to stab crackers, dropped just outside his safe haven. As the bigger bunnies go out and get plenty of food, before the maid arrives, we know what going to happen. We humans, feel the natural... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
