4. EDUCATION ASSESSMENT

It takes about 3 months to get your education assessed. You will
receive decision on email.
5. REGISTRATION
There are two ways to register in Sweden for
International Pharmacists:
1. Proficiency Test
2. Complementary Program
Uppsala University arranges both test and
complementaryprogram and sends the results to
Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare.
6. PROFICIENCY TEST
• Once your education has been assessed, the next step is to take a proficiency test.
• The test is administered in Swedish and you will have to know Swedish in order to pass the test.
It has two parts – a theoretical part and a practical part, taken on separate days in Uppsala.
• Both parts are split into different sections. You need to receive a passing grade in each section on
the same occasion in order to pass that part of the proficiency test. The test is administered in
Swedish. A part of the theoretical test includes a scientific test in English.
• You have a total of five attemptsto pass the theory test and three attemptsto pass the practical
test. From the first test, you have a total of five years to pass the entire proficiency test.
• The theoretical part questions are divided between the various disciplines of chemistry,
pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences.
• The practical part of the proficiency test assesses the individual's skills and professional working
ability as a pharmacist.
7. COMPLEMENTARY PROGRAM
The complementaryprogram has three semesters:
1. Swedish for academic studies for pharmacists with a foreign degree (semester 1)
2. Theoretical courses with a pharmaceutical focus (semester 2)
3. Internship including pharmaceutical constitutions(semester3)
• After the theoretical courses, you undergo six months of business-based training (VFU), i.e.
internship at a pharmacy. The VFU is organized by the university.
Fee ranges are:
• Registration fee: SEK 900
• Tuition fee, first payment: SEK 95,000
• Tuition fee, total: SEK 316,667
After completing complementaryprogram, you become eligible to undergo law & regulation
training to apply for license.
8. SWEDISH LAW & REGULATION
COURSE
• Once you have received a decision from Swedish
Board that you have passed the proficiency test, the
next step is to take a web course in Swedish laws
and regulations.
• The course focuses on the laws and regulations to
which the healthcare system is subject. The course is
free of charge.

9. CLINICAL TRAINING
• You have to find a workplace yourself where you can
do your clinical training.
• During your six months clinical training period you
demonstrate your practical knowledge and skills and
your suitability for the profession.
• When you have completed your training, your
manager and your supervisor will fill out a certificate
for your clinical training.
10. LICENSE APPLICATION
When you have gone through all the stepsit is time to
apply for a licence.
1. Fill out the application form to obtain a licence and
make sure you have all the required documents.
2. Pay the application fee.
3. Send the application by mail.
Your application should contain:
• A completed application form
• A copy of the first page of your valid passport
• A copy of your certificate of Swedish proficiency
• A certificate that you have successfully completed
clinical training in original.
The fee to apply for a licence is SEK 870
11. PHARMACIST SCOPE IN
SWEDEN
• High demand profession
• The average pay for a Pharmacist is SEK 351,356 a
year and SEK 352 an hour in Sweden.
• Working in Industry or private company as a
Pharmacist doesn’t require Swedish Pharmacist
License.
• Higher salaries in Retail and Hospital, both require
Swedish Pharmacist license.
