Surgical Anatomy
Surgical anatomy of the mandible
The mandible is a U shaped bone that supports the lower teeth and makes up the lower facial skeleton.
It has no bony attachments to the skull. It is suspended below the maxilla by muscles, ligaments, and
other soft tissues, which therefore provide the mobility necessary to function with the maxilla. The
superior aspect of the arch shaped mandible consists of the alveolar process and the teeth. The body of
the mandible extends posteroinferiorly to form the mandibular angle and posterosuperiorly to form the
ascending ramus. A vertical plate of bone that extends upward as two processes forms the ascending
ramus of the mandible. The anterior of these is the coronoid process; the posterior is the condyle.(13)

What Is The Theme Of Charly Movie
The movie charly Directed by Ralph Nelson, is a movie that anyone could enjoy. The main character
in this movie is Charly (Cliff Robertson). The movie was released 1968 and has won many awards
such as Academy award for best actor, Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay, and National Board
of Review Award for Best Actor. My opinion on this movie is that I thought it was a great movie. The
class has read the story about Charly Gordon. We knew some part that were going to happen on the
movie. We wrote all of the main parts in a plot diagram. We wrote when, Charly s friend make fun of
him, When charly falls in love, And when algernon dies. Those are only some of the important parts in
the story and the novel. The main theme about

My Experience At School And Outside Of School
To you, I, Dora Su, may not seem like a very special person just because I am not perfect, but I am
definitely limited edition. For sure, I am not your typical teenager; in fact, I am the person to learn
high level mathematics and science in my free time rather than the person who would play video
games such as League of Legends or text and socialize in their free time. Time to me is very valuable
and I enjoy spending this time learning and spending it wisely while having bits of fun. As myself, I
am an immensely ambitious in learning and trying new activities, I am a risk taker for challenges, and
I am highly active as well as self responsible and creative person. My distinct personality makes me
different from everyone else and explains ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, I tend to try out for every sports team at school despite not even being decent at the sport
and not making it, I am not afraid to take on the challenge and making a fool of myself. At school, I
have joined the cross country team every single year with improvements each year; in grade 4, I
received 93rd place and this year I have been training hard, not missing a single practice so the hard
work paid off with my 1st place at areas and 22nd at regionals despite a fall. Running at the Toronto
Waterfront Marathon 5k event is also something I want to do next year. Additionally, I participate and
place in track and field each year, making it to areas and regionals as well as the badminton team
which I placed first with my mixed doubles partner at areas. I also join clubs such as the Yearbook
Committee and Robotics Club at school; I am also planning to start a Math and Science Club at school
with my friends. Badminton is the sport I enjoy outside of school as I play in a competitive team
outside of school around 5 times a week; this develops my competitive personality, but also builds my
sportsmanship. I have also participated in many sports before badminton such as swimming,
gymnastics, skating, and karate; though I do not regularly take part in these sports as I have lots of
extra curricular activities that keep me busy from the moment I get home, I do enjoy them
recreationally for fun. Self motivation

As a long time user of PRICE for estimates of hardware components just part of entire system bids it
was easy to discuss his broader vision with PRICE® Systems International. PRICE provides us with
more than your typical vendor/customer relationship; we work closely together in a real partnership,
says Manuel. When we wanted to verify cost estimates for all bid processes that go into proposals,
they listened, understood and collaborated with us on precisely what we wanted to achieve with an
integrated Cost Estimation Framework. Manuel s vision for the CEF was to not disrupt bid processes
that were already familiar and comfortable to estimation teams, but rather to add better direction at the
early stages of a project, improve data sharing, and verify bottom up estimates against pre defined top
down cost targets. The CEF introduces tools and methods for Airbus existing estimation specialists
without changing their processes. Integrating Parametric and Bottom Up Estimating Tools Across a
project s life cycle, the CEF in effect synthesizes three costing methods: analytic, similarity and
parametric. Key tools include ProMo+ from IAES Company for database management; QDV from
Quotalys Ltd for managing analytical estimates and versioning; and TruePlanning® from PRICE®

Diction In The Raven
In the classic poem, The Raven , Edgar Allan Poe explores the effects of isolation and grief. The
Raven follows a man who laments his lost love, Lenore. When a raven enters his chamber, and
repeatedly says nevermore, the narrator s inner struggle with his state of mind is revealed. Through the
use of imagery and diction in stanza five, Poe expresses the narrator s fear and sorrow after losing his
loved one. Poe s utilizes imagery to portray the narrator s struggle to cope with the loss of Lenore. For
instance, when the narrator opens the door to see who is knocking, he recounts, Deep into that
darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing (Poe 25). Poe s use of imagery reveals the
speaker s trepidation as fear is instilled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poe establishes fear when the narrator says, [...]the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no

Moreover, Poe establishes sorrow when the narrator conveys, [...] the only word there spoken was the
whispered word, Lenore? /This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, Lenore! (Poe 28
29). Lenore is repeated two times to emphasize her importance to the narrator. The narrator thinks
about the supernatural influence, however, all he hears is an echo. Although he sees no one at his door,
he calls out for Lenore, in hopes she will respond to him. After his call for Lenore, nothing more is
said by either him or the mysterious echo. RELATE TO THESIS Poe uses imagery and diction to
portray the narrator s state of mind. Poe s descriptive language demonstrates the narrator s sorrowful
life without Lenore, and Poe s choice of words reveal his fear towards the sinister raven. For the
sorrowful and fearful narrator, the whole world seems to be bleak and terrifying. Everything, even
darkness, reminds him of his lost love,

Drug Use And Its Effect On The Global Increase Of Death...
Introduction Illicit drug use is a prevalent issue in today s society. According to the Australian Institute
of Health and Welfare, the global increase of death and disease can be largely attributed to the illegal
use of drugs (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). Though the rates of illegal drug use have remained constant
in recent years, there has been a shift in the use of specific drugs (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). One
drug that has received a lot of attention due to an apparent increase in usage is Methamphetamine.
Methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulant drug that has been a source of controversy within
Australia. Though the usage of methamphetamine in Australia has remained constant over the past few
years, there has been a significant change in the preferred form of the drug (Illicit Use of Drugs,
2013). For example, the usage of methamphetamine powder saw a significant decrease from 2010 to
2013. In contrast, the use of the crystalline form more commonly know as ice nearly doubled in the
same time frame (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). Due to the increase of ice usage, as well as the highly
addictive nature of the drug, many are concerned that Australia is in the midst of an ice epidemic. This
essay will examine methamphetamine s pharmacokinetic properties, its pharmacological mechanisms,
the long and short term effects of use, as well as discuss the prevalence of ice in Australia.

How Did Rasputin Influence The Paranoia
THE PARANOIAAROUND THE RUSSIAN MYSTIC INFLUENCER GRIGORI EFIMOVICH
RASPUTIN WAS AN IMPORTANT FACTOR THAT LED TO THE RUSSIAN REVOLUTION.
Rasputin was a Russian mystic/holy man who was close to the Tsar Nicolas II of Russia and his family
from 1906 1916. It was believed that Rasputin had a special relationship with the Tsarina Alexandra
Feodoronva and had some sort of influence over her decisions. Due to people s paranoia, they slowly
distrusted, and subsequently overthrew, the Russian government under the Romanov Dynasty, which
had ruled since 1613. This distrust and fear led way for the murder of the Tsar and his family. All this
set into motion the development of the Soviet Union, Berlin Wall, and the Communist party.

The common people no longer trusted the Tsar to keep them safe, they could have faith no longer.
Prince Felix Yusupov, who was married to the Tsar s niece Princess Irina Alexandrovna of Russia,
decided to take matters into his own hands. He lured Rasputin to his home, though how he did this is
unclear. It is generally believed, however, that Rasputin thought he would be meeting Yusupov s
attractive wife. Yusupov laced pastries and wine with cyanide, enough to kill several men. Rasputin
ate and drank, but did not die, in fact it seemed, the poison had no effect. Still, Yusupov was
determined and shot Rasputin in the back. Rasputin fell to the floor, and with no pulse or signs of life,
was presumed dead. A while later, when Yusupov and his friends had been celebrating upstairs,
Yusupov decided to check on the body. Rasputin opened his eyes which were allegedly green like a
viper. Yusupov and company chased Rasputin, shooting him two more times and beating him with a
rubber club. They then tied him up and tossed him into the Neva River. Rasputin s death is shrouded
in mystery, as it seems he got free of the binds enough to outstretch his arm, though he had apparently
been shot in the head. The autopsy report listed his cause of death as hypothermia, furthering the
legend that Rasputin may have been a real magic man. (Cristen)
Rasputin reportedly said before his death, If it was one of your relations who

Rockign Horse Winner
The short story, Rocking Horse Winner , and the movie based on it contrast considerably. When the
written story has ended the movie continues with ideas, which may not come from the author. Three
major differences of the two are: the mother, the father, and the ending. In the movie the mother,
Hester, is portrayed as a loving and self sacrificing person. While in the short story she is exposed to
be a cold hearted, and greedy person. Another instance where the short story and movie differ is the
role of the father.
In the beginning of the written story the author reveals Hester to be a cold hearted mother. She had
bonny children, yet she felt they had been thrust upon her, and she could not love them (75). In public
she is thought of as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Paul goes into the coma like state his mother sits at his bedside and cries when he dies. After
Paul dies Hester wants nothing to do with the money, she even tells Bassett to burn it. The heartless
Hester in the written story never shed a tear when Paul died.
Another major difference between the written story and the movie is the character of the father. In the
short story the author only mentions him briefly. The father went to town to some office. But though
he had good prospects, these prospects never materialized (76). Hester talks about her husband being
unlucky frequently, but the husband is never present. Yet in the movie the father plays a moderately
significant character. Throughout the movie he is included in the dialogue. He even stands up to
Hester a couple of times. Everyday the father goes to work while trying to find a better job. Everyday
when he gets home she asks if he had any luck finding a better job. When he reply s that he didn t
have any luck, she belittles the job he does have. When the father loses the job he does have Hester
and Uncle Oscar both scold him.
The most important difference between the movie and the written story is when the written story ends
the movie continues with ideas, which may not come from the author. The movie continues to show
the viewer Hester s reaction to Paul s death. When Paul dies she orders Bassett to take the rocking

Battle Of Britain Essay
The Battle of Britain was a major campaign during World War II, in which aircraft played an
important role. The policy towards Germany s aggressive acts before the war had been one of
pacification. Unfortunately, this left the Western powers with a deficient military and unprepared for
war when it began. The Germans swept through Europe. They defeated Poland in September 1939 to
start World War II. During the spring of 1940, Germany conquered Belgium, Denmark, Holland,
Norway, and France. Italy had joined the war as an ally of Germany, Russia had signed a treaty of non
aggression, and the United States remained neutral. When France fell in June of 1940, Great Britain

There was a huge amount of works on the collaboration between trade and transport costs.
Improvements from the trade should be balanced the related transaction costs, in the method of direct
expenses for the transportation service, because of the value associated with the quick option for
transporting goods. Another important locational conclusion influences, mainly for export oriented
businesses, is closeness to airports with the wide transport.
So international trade is an essential part for the UK economy. Also it has given more strength and
growth to the overall aviation. Global market and business prospects are one of the most important
thing under the trade. Therefore short of the international profession it will be a big lost for UK
economic growth.
For example, UK not only doing trade locally, there is a huge demand for international products in
UK. Manufactured branded Australian TV, famous tasty tea from Asian countries, branded products
are trading from UK to other countries So potentially they are transferring the object domestic and
international vise.

The Debate Over Death Penalty

Debates over Death Penalty in the United States The issue of death penalty today is a popular topic for
numerous public and scholarly discussions. The death penalty has a long and distinguished history in
the United States, as it has been around in some form either official or otherwise since the beginning
of American society. America originally adopted the British justice system, with hundreds of crimes
being punishable by death. Slowly but surely, states began to eliminate the number of things that could
lead to the death penalty. Likewise, new methods were introduced, with the electric chair coming
about around the turn of the 1900s. The modern death penalty system came after the Supreme Court
ruled the death penalty unconstitutional in Furman v. Georgia. Today, the death penalty is only
available for murder, only available for people over 18, and not available for people who are mentally
retarded. While the differences in punishment between death penalty states and non death penalty
states is severe, the difference in outcomes is not as severe. While one would expect death penalty
states to have lower murder rates because of the fear of the death penalty, the opposite ends up being
true. In death penalty states, the murder rate has been significantly higher in every year since 1990.
States without the death penalty also feature lower general crime rates. States with no death penalty
also tend to spend less money on

Examples Of Altruism
Altruism is the virtue of unselfishness. It is the principle and practice of concern for others. T ypically
it is associated with selfless acts like volunteering and helping the less fortunate. Altruists are
commonly stereotyped to those who ve given greatly to those in need, to the extent in which they
seemingly put those in need over themselves. The Dalai Lama and Mahatma Gandhi are common
icons for this theory.
Pure altruism is the form of the virtue in which one can perform altruist acts while remaining
completely unselfishly motivated. A circumstance of this would be donating money for the benefit of
others with no personal self satisfaction or mental rewarding. An example of a pure altruist act is an
innocent mother risking her life to save her young child, and dying as the result of saving her child. I
do acknowledge a fair hearing towards this and agree it is morally courageous in our present western
society. However, seemingness is a true factor that is predetermined in this sense. It s not the question
of what the mother gains from death that s important, but the theme of absence gained from living.
More specifically, the mom subconsciously concluded

Overpopulation In The Everglades Essay
With an impressive 23 feet in length, and weighing 200 pounds, the Burmese python is taking up the
Everglades space. It s no wonder animals around here go missing. What exactly is the reason they re
in the Everglades? Why are they everywhere? Well they have no natural predators, there s way too
many of them, and they are dramatically changing the number of animals. To continue, the Burmese
python doesn t regularly eat the same thing. Every meal is different in the Everglades. Since they re
carnivores , they go after all the small birds and mammals . (Matt Piven, Page 44, Paragraph 2) Sooner
or later they are bound to be extinct in the Everglades. Wouldn t that be a sad ending to these poor
animals? As previously stated, overpopulation is a big problem too. With so many of them in the
Everglades, their food sources numbers are declining. But this is the outcome of previous python
owners being downright stupid and purchasing a pet snake without researching anything about the
python. (EcoEchoes, page 47, Paragraph 3) The outcome usually ends with the owners letting them go

Fritz Haber s Accomplishments
Fritz Haber was a Jewish scientist that used his knowledge of science in ways that effected our world.
He led the push for inventing chemicals that he thought would be beneficial for Germany to use
during WWI. He is known as the father of chemical warfare , scientist of death or the immoral
scientist due to the tremendous amount of pain, suffering and death that he caused. Haber s immense
sense of nationalism led him to making many ambiguous decisions. The long term effects of Haber s
inventions were negative and many people lost their lives because of him. Haber s talent in science led
him to create weapons that were very destructive. He created chlorine gas that he believed would help

They convulsed in pain, tearing at their throats. Pus and phlegm filled their lungs. Yellow mucous
frothed from their mouths before they coughed out blood. Their faces twisted in agony, they drowned
on the land. Terrified by this new horror, many Allied soldiers ran, leaving a six kilometer gap in the
line (Barach N.P.). Soldiers endured excruciating pain when this lethal gas was released onto the
battlefield. Due to a gap that was left in the line, Haber s plan to gain an advance was unsuccessful.
Fritz Haber got his way. On April 22nd, he made hell worse (Barach N.P.). The war was already very
devastating and Haber s introduction of chlorine gas made the war even more tragic. The explosives
he was manufacturing were horrific enough, but his work on poison gas had already killed German
troops in test runs (Barach N.P.). Haber was not only demolishing thousands of people on the
opposing side, but he was also killing his own men that he was dependent on to succeed in the war.
Further weapons of industrial warfare were developed. For three more years the war dragged on until
no more blood could be shed. At 11am on November 11th, 1918, the last shots of The Great War were

Women s Pain Perception in Childbirth
This is a study that focused on eighty three women and examined the effects of cultural and
educational influences on the pain in childbirth. The eighty three women are divided into Middle
Eastern women and Western women. The women ranged in ages from nineteen to thirty eight. There
were thirty people from the Western group and that consisted of women whose mothers were born in
Europe, the US or another English speaking country. There were fifty three women from the Middle
Eastern Group and that consisted of women whose mothers were born in Asia, North African or

by their level education. Those who had twelve years or less of schooling were in the low education
group. Those women who had more than twelve years of schooling were in the high education group.
In the Western group sixty six percent were in the high education group. While the Middle Eastern
group only had thirty three point nine percent in the high education group. In order to perform this

American History X By Tony Kaye
American History X American History X, directed by Tony Kaye, is one of the most controversial,
critically acclaimed movies of the twentieth century. The film is about a man named Derek who serves

Derek s younger brother, Danny, tells the story of how Derek became this hateful, racist person
through various flashback throughout the story. Danny and Derek s father was killed by an African

Ribbon Seal Research Paper
Ribbon Seal (Histriophoca fasciata) Ribbon seals are among the most striking and easily recognizable
seals in the world. They can be identified by the distinctive light colored bands or ribbons that encircle
their neck, each foreflipper, and hips. Adult males are the most striking, having a dark brown to black
pelage with white ribbons, while adult females range from silvery grey to dark brown with paler
ribbons. Juvenile ribbon seals are typically a light brown dorsally, light grey ventrally, and have
indistinct ribbons that usually develop after two to three years as the seals mature. Ribbon seals molt
their coat of hair annually, beginning in May and finishing in July, with younger individuals molting
earliest. Ribbon seal pups ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pups double their weight during nursing and are weaned after three to four weeks. Mating likely
occurs shortly after weaning, though little is known of the breeding system. Ribbon seals are known to
eat a variety of fishes, cephalopods, and crustaceans; however, information about their feeding habits
is limited and mostly restricted to the spring when ribbon seals are typically feeding less, as evidenced
by their decreased weight and blubber thickness. Although there is little direct evidence of predation,
potential predators of ribbon seals include polar bears, killer whales, sharks, and walruses. Ribbon
seals are relatively unwary while hauled out and can be approached closely by boat. This behavior
suggests that ribbon seals probably do not experience much predation by polar bears, but may also
make them especially susceptible to hunting by man. Siberia and Alaska Natives have hunted the
ribbon seal for many generations for subsistence, and the current annual take by Alaska Natives is
estimated to be less than 200 seals per year. Commercial harvests of ribbon seals were conducted by
Soviet sealers in the 1960s to 1980s, during which time the Bering Sea population is thought to have
declined from 80,000 or 90,000 animals to 60,000. Surveys during the early and mid 1970s put the
worldwide population estimate of ribbon seals between 200,000 and 240,000, with estimates ranging
between 60,000 and 100,000 in the Bering Sea (Shustov, 1972; Burns, 1981). A more recent and

Taking a Look at MIMO Techniques
MIMO techniques are mostly used to accelerate system throughput over disruptive wireless
communication channels. It is well known fact that with the number of transmit antenna M and
number of receive antenna N, the capacity of MIMO systems increases linearly with a factor of MN.
The receiver decodes the received signal vectors into actual information, a narrow band flat fading
MIMO is designed as:
Y=Hx+n (1)
Where Y x are received and transmitted vectors, H is channel matrix n is the noise. During the last
decade, MIMO techniques in wireless industry have gained a huge interest in the study. MIMO is
treated as an extension of conventional smart antenna systems (SAS). In SAS, techniques of
beamforming are deployed and the optimal antenna weighting vector that determines antenna
radiation pattern is computed based on the optimal criterion such as maximum signal to interference
plus noise ratio (SINR), minimum mean square error (MMSE) [8]. The ability to exploit and use the
multipath propagation can be considered as one of the major advantages of MIMO systems. In
contrast to transmit beamforming schemes, channel state information (CSI) is generally not required at
the transmitter of MIMO systems. MIMO techniques for transmitting systems can be majorly divided
into two categories: spatial multiplexing and space time coding (spatial diversity techniques). In
spatial multiplexing technique, it increases the data rate (throughput) over a MIMO dedicated

to hold on to your home for quite a while, it is a good idea to keep your costs reasonable. Consider
how your renovations will be viewed by buyers. If you are unsure about the types of improvements

While improvements are a good thing, not all home buyers will appreciate your specific taste. If your
personal style tends to be unusual, show it off with linens, towels and other things that can be easily
changed not permanent parts of the room. For example, you should avoid installing an expensive pink
granite counter top in your kitchen. Many buyers would refuse to consider purchasing such a home.
If you own an older home that needs improvements to make it habitable, make those changes first.
Your home should be comfortable and everything should work properly. If you are beginning to
outgrow your house, adding a bedroom or bathroom are costs that can be recoverable. If you do not
have room for expansion, you could consider converting a den or rarely used dining area.
Home renovation expenses can quickly get out of hand. It is important to make a strict budget and
adhere to it as much as possible. You can listen to the advice of your contractor but the final decisions
should be yours because you will have to live with the changes. You can save money by doing some of
the simpler improvements

Essay Growing Up
When I Grow Up.. Being grown up isn t as fun as the idea of growing up. AmberGrace Seguin
Remember when we were young and all we could think of was growing up and getting to do grownup
things? We spent our whole childhood thinking of what we would do when we finally grew up , and
here we are, almost completely grown up and we still haven t made up our mind of what it is we will
do when we grow up. We ve painted this pretty little picture in our head of what it ll be like when we
eventually do grow up, and when it finally comes for the picture to be taken off the wall and put into
action, it s not nearly as fun as creating the painting. Growing old is mandatory, growing up is
optional. Anonymous We all have the choice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The day the child realizes that all adults are imperfect, he becomes an adolescent; the day he forgives
them, he becomes an adult; the day he forgives himself, he becomes wise. Alden Nowlan As we
continue to grow up, we learn that being grown up is not as we imagined it. We once convinced
ourselves that growing up was the goal to achieve, and life would be much better once we were in fact
grown up. When we in fact do grow up, we think back at our youth and laugh because we thought
growing up was the most wondrous thing to accomplish, but now, more than ever, we crave for our
youth; for the days we would sit in the grass and daydream of what we are to become when we grow
up; and finally for the days when life was simple and we could imagine it any which way we wanted it
and no one could do a thing about it. A grownup is a child with layers on. Woody

Abstract This paper proposes a method for optimization of the harmonic performance of CHB inverter
under Selective Harmonic Elimination PWM modulation (SHEPWM) control. The proposed
optimization techniques are used to solve the set of non linear transcendental trigonometrical
equations. SHE were implemented to reduce the THD value. The set of non linear transcendental
equation is minimized by proposed Big Bang Big Crunch optimization technique. The proposed
topology is suitable for any number of levels. In this paper third, fifth, seventh and ninth level
harmonics have been eliminated. Simulation work is done in MATLAB software and experimental
results have been presented to validate the theory.

Background of the Catholic Church Essay
Background
In the Western world, the schism within the Catholic Church has made its most significant impact due
to rapid changes in social standards. Of greatest importance is the evolution of modern society and
their response to the reverberated traditions of the Catholic Church as well as the evolving Protestant
sects. In consequence of increases in technology and science, modern society has redefined its
acceptable and moral behavioral standards within a social setting, whereas, the Catholic Church stands
firm in its doctrines despite social and moral movements in the twentieth century. Except for the
Second Vatican Council and the Council of Trent, the Roman Catholic Church has not worked to
revise its religious traditions in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I don t believe that religious conversions need to take place, rather religious communication and
understanding. The intolerance perpetuated by Catholicism is a feeling that I had at one point
entertained in accordance with my Church s attitude. It is only now, after exploring other religious
services, I realize the ignorance that intolerance perpetuates and I have grown spiritually from this
revelation.
Upon these grounds I propose that it is reasonable and necessary to draw parallels between Protestant
and Catholic religious services as a start to narrow the gap between Catholics and Protestants. It is in
this acknowledgment of apparent similarities in worship that Protestants and Catholics would be able
to appreciate each other for what they believe both religiously and socially. Whether or not people
realize this point, religion even while separated from the state, influences how each individual
approaches and interacts with another. The split between religion and state widened a gap within
humanity. By fostering new relationships and new parallels within differing religions, this gap will
begin to close.
Since the Protestant Churches arose due to the Reformation and a separation from the authority of the
Roman Catholic Church, there may exist Protestant rituals that parallel Catholic rituals. Moreover, by

Karen Johnston Case
Introduction Karen Johnston is a director of a health planning agency which employs approximately
18 staff members and also serves on the Community Advisory Board (CAB). This program typically
incorporates two student interns from her health planning agency. The CAB is a vital program as it
advises the program faculty on issues that concern curriculum, internships, job placements, and
scholarships. Recently, Johnston was asked by the program s internship director to select a student
intern for the upcoming semester. The program director forwarded the resumes of three students who
had applied for the internship position. Johnston, who had previously been a part of the hiring process,
first considered the intern candidate s grade point average, work experience, and career goals.
However, this time, she also decided to see if the internship candidates had any social media presence
on the Internet. Unexpectedly, all three candidates had social media profiles either on Facebook,
Twitter, or LinkedIn. Two out of the three internship candidates had positive social media presence.
They had posted about their student extracurricular activities, work activities, family, and friends.
However, the remaining internship candidate, Lisa, had a negative social media presence. Lisa had

For example, there is less mass in the Universe than predicted. While some have confidently expected
that the missing mass would be located, it has yet to be found. Could the next few years throw up a

known as AI, are two related fields of research which promise much. One of the best known schemes
is the Cog Project a humanoid robot that can act, talk and even look like a person. Hans Moravec, an
AI pioneer, believes that by 2030 robots will be able to visualise tasks and assess the consequences of
their actions. By 2040 robots should be able to reason at least as efficiently as people. Moravec even
envisages a world where robots will display superhuman reasoning . By 2050, emotions will be
commonplace because they will help machines to bond with their human masters. All this, however,
raises an intriguing question: will robots be so similar to us that they, too, will start wondering where
they came from? As well as showing awareness of the world, will they be aware of themselves? In
other words, will they be self conscious? By the middle of the next century, we may even begin to
wonder whether such advanced robots, with their enormous mental capacities and physical strength,
pose a threat to their human inventors. The cyborg the fusion of man and machine is another plausible

Similarities Between Grendel And Beowulf
The Better Protagonist
If you have ever read the book Grendel, which is a playoff of the book Beowulf, you know the author
depicts the protagonist as a good character. The author, John Gardner, uses many techniques in his
writing to make Grendel sound like a good protagonist. He made a good argument for its protagonist
by describing other characters as evil, giving an idea of character s backstory to help guide your
opinions towards certain characters, and giving Grendel many of the traits of the nine noble virtues.
Throughout the book John Gardner describes the characters in his book Grendel to make them sound
worse than they did in the book Beowulf. An example of this is when Grendel is being killed by
Beowulf at the end of the book. He

Analysis Of Redemption At Hacksaw Ridge
Undeniably, the book Redemption at Hacksaw Ridge by Booton Herndon is an interesting yet
enlightening read which follows Desmond Doss heroic actions during World War 2. This book is a
biography of Desmond Doss who always wished to become a medic, but never received much
education as a child. When Doss was one step closer to his dream, he was outcasted and tolerated
torture from other soldiers who refused to accept that he is a conscientious objector. The setting of this
book first takes place in Virginia, where Doss was born, but the majority of the book takes place at a
steep, jagged cliff called the Hacksaw Ridge. The main character of this book is Desmond Doss. He
was born in Virginia, and grew up with a drunk and abusive father. He always dreamed of becoming a
medic, but never had much schooling. Doss became even more determined to become one when he
went to the hospital and met the love of his life, Dorothy. Doss would always ask Dorothy medical
questions on dates, and so she gave him a book, in which he studied from. He saw many friends and
other men from his town being sent off to war, and he wanted to join them too. Doss convinced his
father, who is a veteran, to let him join war, but when he tries to change Doss mind, he was
unsuccessful. No one could change Doss will including Dorothy, and he eventually prepares to join
war. When he joins war he has to go through various training programs, but fails the rifle test, as he

Mufasa was the brother that was more extroverted, he had the throne, the strength, and all the good
looks. Throughout the scenes in the movie you could see Mufasa had a personality of someone that
was a strong, proud, and the dominant ruler of his kingdom. He was willing to protect his kingdom
prepared to fight when he thought Scar had challenged him. He did all of that until his death, dying
when recusing Simba from the stampede of wildebeest. He puts his trust into his brother who very
easily betrayed him. Scar was the more introverted brother, he was much smarter than Mufasa, but
didn t have the looks, and his longing for the throne made him very deceptive. He produced the plan to
at first kill his nephew, and then his brother. The first plan to kill Simba was by tricking him into going
out into the elephant graveyard to be attacked and eaten by the hyenas. When that didn t work he came
up with the plan to kill Mufasa by not actually having to do it himself, giving the hyenas instructions
when to create the stampede in which he had placed Simba right down in the middle of, knowing
Mufasa would try to save him, because that is his son. These two brothers were very different Scar had
a dark side going on while Mufasa was more of the bright light. One could say the message is that it it

The Things They Carried, And Big Fish And The American Dream
Patrick Rothfuss, an American writer, once said, It s like everyone tells a story about themselves
inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves
out of that story. Rothfuss explains how storytelling is always a part of everyone. Stories are told in
different ways, and those stories shape the person tremendously. Many of the stories told today are
what shape the audience. In The Things they Carried , by Tim O Brien, and the film Big Fish , directed
by Tim Burton, stories are portrayed to be productive because the characters all have an American
Dream and their stories help the characters achieve tasks to get to their American Dream.
According to Why Americans are Obsessed with Telling their Stories , by Ozy Qi Wang, American
parents regard parent child bonding as the No.1 priority of personal storytelling: They encourage
children to share their stories, pay great attention to and are sympathetic with children s thoughts and
feelings, and create opportunities to re experience the past with children. Americans think it is key to
keep their children s dreams alive, they encourage them at a young age to express how they feel and
what they dream of for their future. Kids grow up used to the idea of sharing their stories and create
more meaningful connections with everyone they encounter. In Big Fish, Edward Bloom told his son
stories growing up to show him that anything is possible. Throughout the film, Ed Bloom got his

Human Ecology Theory And Community Theory
Community Theory
In the Macro level of social work, communities are the primary settings for human behavior.
Communities are clusters of people who have something in common. A major social work perspective
views communities as entities where citizens can organize or be organized in order to address mutual
concerns and improve their over all quality of life. Throughout this paper I will discuss four
conceptual perspectives of communities. I will cover the following, Human Ecology, Socio
Psychological, Structural, and Functionalist.
These perspectives are important for a social worker to understand in order to create change for the
individuals in a community. In the process of explaining each perspective I will also discuss the key
concepts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These characteristics are usually race, ethnicity, religion, social pressure, or personal choice.
These Ecological concepts demographics, competition, segregation and integration can help social
workers analyze a community in terms of its fairness and support to all of its members. One of the
strengths gathered from this perspective is that it allows for the issues to be identified and it
implements change as needed. The Human Ecology perspective can help frame subsequent questions
like how to change the situation. It has concern for the individuals within the community but its main
focus is on the environment. With the focus on the environment it will be better to determine why
people behave the way they do. One of the concepts of this perspective is also one of tis strengths and
that is when integration occurs. Members will come together and function as a whole. However, this
theory does have its weaknesses. For one when the demographics mentioned are becoming unlivable
members will compete and segregate themselves. This causes the community to always be in chaos.
Viewing communities from a Human Ecology perspective it provides a useful assessment mechanism
for understanding why people act as they do within the context of the larger community macro system.
Social Psychological Theory
This theory is defined on how members within a community feel about themselves as well as their

Defining Intelligence Essay
Intelligence is defined by the American Heritage Dictionary as being the capacity to acquire and apply
knowledge. When knowledge is spoken of, it is generally used in terms of education. The extent of
education a person has achieved is then what most often determines how much knowledge one has
accumulated. Nevertheless, with this definition of intelligence in mind, one might possibly consider
the average person to be intelligent. After all, even a person who has never gone to school a day in
their life is capable of acquiring knowledge and applying it to some area of their life. Acquiring and
applying knowledge could be something as simple as being shown how to mop a floor and then
conducting the job using the newly gained know how.

Children, for instance, all have different areas in which they excel. A child who excels in school and is
listed on the honor roll each term would obviously be considered intelligent. However, a child who is
very talented in music but obtains bad marks in school might not be deemed a smart child by the
average person; nevertheless, this child would also be considered intelligent.
Once a person has an idea of what intelligence is and what it means, a final thought one might
consider is what influences are responsible for the different types of intellect. Two possible influences
are genetics and the environment in which one lives, with genetics being the strongest influence
(Santrock, 2009, pg. 302). Most researchers agree that a person s genetics and environment interact
with one another to influence the outcome of that person s intelligence (Santrock, 2009, pg. 302).
Genetic influences should be pretty obvious, so there should be no need to explain it; a person s
environment on the other hand, can involve several factors. An environment can consist of elements
such as a person s school, home, friendships, family relationships, and workplaces. All of these
components factor in to influence a person s intelligence.
In conclusion, I must say that intelligence can certainly be considered a broad word. It is a word that
has varying definitions depending on the source from which the definition comes. The reason for this
seems to be because people

Dispositional Optimism Research Paper
Utilizing Dispositional Optimism Life is tough. Life forces humans to endure in a universe that may

suffering that exists in this world and get straight to a place where we cannot feel its horrors anymore?

Evolution Of Primate Intelligence Essay
The evolution of primate intelligence.
Intro and summary
Inquisitiveness, probably one if the most important trait a human being exhibits. This characteristic
has also extended to our quest to understand own past. One of the most fundamental reasons why we
are interested in the other primates is to obtain a precise view of how our ancestor may have lived.
Trying to get an insight into their environment, food, and social structure. Although there is no direct
evidence to prove that we as human beings have descended from any modern type monkey or ape, our
genealogy does indicate that we have gone through stages, in which we possibly evolved from a
relatively medium sized creature with good binocular vision, hands with good dexterity the ability to
climb trees. An evolutionary trend seen in primates involves the development of offspring both before

Another trait seen in primate evolution has been a more elaborate brain. In addition to brain size and
gestation periods, the social organization also demonstrates and plays an important role in primate
evolution due to its complexity and hierarchy.
Brain evolution
The fundamental explanation for the evolution of large relative brain size in early primates remains
undetermined and disputed (Insel). In particular, the neocortex of many primates has undergone
substantial expansion, and has reached its largest in humans (Rilling and Insel, 1999). The neocortex
is generally associated with, cognitive memory, and higher order information processing. Emotions
such as fear, happiness, jealousy and understanding the need for conflict resolution stem from this part
of the brain. Although, many theories have been put forth to account for cerebral expansion in
primates, Epiphenomenal and developmental models have interpreted brain

Gender Roles Of Early Childhood Development
Gender Roles in Early Childhood Development
In a society filled with gender stereotypes, children often adopt gender roles as they move from
childhood to adolescence because of the many factors that influence their views to the point they will
deny certain roles because it does not fit the gender bias. During the early years, boys and girls will
usually be drawn towards gender specific activities. Playing house for example, they little boy will
imitate going to work, while the little girl will imitate cooking in the kitchen and playing with the
baby doll. Gender stereotypes are embedded in our culture as a social identity giving norms to how
gender is defined. This paper is going to discuss the child s earliest exposure to gender roles in the
home from clothing, toys and expectations to society s role in gender bias on early childhood
development.
Children learn as early as age two what it means to be a boy or a girl (Aina Cameron). This is
described as gender identity, a person s sense of self as male or female. Gender stereotyping emerges
hand in hand with the development of gender identity in Early Childhood (Halim). Gender roles are
society s expectations of the proper behavior, attitudes and activities of males and females. When
babies are born they are either put in pink or blue, as they grow up they still maintain the same gender
colors. As young children start to socialize, they are playing with either girl toys or boy toys. When
they get older they

  • 2. Surgical Anatomy Surgical anatomy of the mandible The mandible is a U shaped bone that supports the lower teeth and makes up the lower facial skeleton. It has no bony attachments to the skull. It is suspended below the maxilla by muscles, ligaments, and other soft tissues, which therefore provide the mobility necessary to function with the maxilla. The superior aspect of the arch shaped mandible consists of the alveolar process and the teeth. The body of the mandible extends posteroinferiorly to form the mandibular angle and posterosuperiorly to form the ascending ramus. A vertical plate of bone that extends upward as two processes forms the ascending ramus of the mandible. The anterior of these is the coronoid process; the posterior is the condyle.(13) The ... • 4. My Experience At School And Outside Of School To you, I, Dora Su, may not seem like a very special person just because I am not perfect, but I am definitely limited edition. For sure, I am not your typical teenager; in fact, I am the person to learn high level mathematics and science in my free time rather than the person who would play video games such as League of Legends or text and socialize in their free time. Time to me is very valuable and I enjoy spending this time learning and spending it wisely while having bits of fun. As myself, I am an immensely ambitious in learning and trying new activities, I am a risk taker for challenges, and I am highly active as well as self responsible and creative person. My distinct personality makes me different from everyone else and explains ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, I tend to try out for every sports team at school despite not even being decent at the sport and not making it, I am not afraid to take on the challenge and making a fool of myself. At school, I have joined the cross country team every single year with improvements each year; in grade 4, I received 93rd place and this year I have been training hard, not missing a single practice so the hard work paid off with my 1st place at areas and 22nd at regionals despite a fall. Running at the Toronto Waterfront Marathon 5k event is also something I want to do next year. Additionally, I participate and place in track and field each year, making it to areas and regionals as well as the badminton team which I placed first with my mixed doubles partner at areas. I also join clubs such as the Yearbook Committee and Robotics Club at school; I am also planning to start a Math and Science Club at school with my friends. Badminton is the sport I enjoy outside of school as I play in a competitive team outside of school around 5 times a week; this develops my competitive personality, but also builds my sportsmanship. I have also participated in many sports before badminton such as swimming, gymnastics, skating, and karate; though I do not regularly take part in these sports as I have lots of extra curricular activities that keep me busy from the moment I get home, I do enjoy them recreationally for fun. As a long time user of PRICE for estimates of hardware components just part of entire system bids it was easy to discuss his broader vision with PRICE® Systems International. PRICE provides us with more than your typical vendor/customer relationship; we work closely together in a real partnership, says Manuel. When we wanted to verify cost estimates for all bid processes that go into proposals, they listened, understood and collaborated with us on precisely what we wanted to achieve with an integrated Cost Estimation Framework. Manuel s vision for the CEF was to not disrupt bid processes that were already familiar and comfortable to estimation teams, but rather to add better direction at the early stages of a project, improve data sharing, and verify bottom up estimates against pre defined top down cost targets. The CEF introduces tools and methods for Airbus existing estimation specialists without changing their processes. Integrating Parametric and Bottom Up Estimating Tools Across a project s life cycle, the CEF in effect synthesizes three costing methods: analytic, similarity and parametric. Key tools include ProMo+ from IAES Company for database management; QDV from Quotalys Ltd for managing analytical estimates and versioning; and TruePlanning® from PRICE® Systems to set cost targets, map topdown parametric estimates of Cost Element Structure to bottom up WBS estimates in Excel, and share information contained in ... • 6. Diction In The Raven In the classic poem, The Raven , Edgar Allan Poe explores the effects of isolation and grief. The Raven follows a man who laments his lost love, Lenore. When a raven enters his chamber, and repeatedly says nevermore, the narrator s inner struggle with his state of mind is revealed. Through the use of imagery and diction in stanza five, Poe expresses the narrator s fear and sorrow after losing his loved one. Poe s utilizes imagery to portray the narrator s struggle to cope with the loss of Lenore. For instance, when the narrator opens the door to see who is knocking, he recounts, Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing (Poe 25). Poe s use of imagery reveals the speaker s trepidation as fear is instilled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Poe establishes fear when the narrator says, [...]the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token (Poe 27). Words such as silence , unbroken , and token emphasize fear. Silence instills fear as Moreover, Poe establishes sorrow when the narrator conveys, [...] the only word there spoken was the whispered word, Lenore? /This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, Lenore! (Poe 28 29). Lenore is repeated two times to emphasize her importance to the narrator. The narrator thinks about the supernatural influence, however, all he hears is an echo. Although he sees no one at his door, he calls out for Lenore, in hopes she will respond to him. After his call for Lenore, nothing more is said by either him or the mysterious echo. RELATE TO THESIS Poe uses imagery and diction to portray the narrator s state of mind. Poe s descriptive language demonstrates the narrator s sorrowful life without Lenore, and Poe s choice of words reveal his fear towards the sinister raven. For the sorrowful and fearful narrator, the whole world seems to be bleak and terrifying. Everything, even darkness, reminds him of his lost love, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Drug Use And Its Effect On The Global Increase Of Death... Introduction Illicit drug use is a prevalent issue in today s society. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, the global increase of death and disease can be largely attributed to the illegal use of drugs (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). Though the rates of illegal drug use have remained constant in recent years, there has been a shift in the use of specific drugs (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). One drug that has received a lot of attention due to an apparent increase in usage is Methamphetamine. Methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulant drug that has been a source of controversy within Australia. Though the usage of methamphetamine in Australia has remained constant over the past few years, there has been a significant change in the preferred form of the drug (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). For example, the usage of methamphetamine powder saw a significant decrease from 2010 to 2013. In contrast, the use of the crystalline form more commonly know as ice nearly doubled in the same time frame (Illicit Use of Drugs, 2013). Due to the increase of ice usage, as well as the highly addictive nature of the drug, many are concerned that Australia is in the midst of an ice epidemic. This essay will examine methamphetamine s pharmacokinetic properties, its pharmacological mechanisms, the long and short term effects of use, as well as discuss the prevalence of ice in Australia. • 8. How Did Rasputin Influence The Paranoia THE PARANOIAAROUND THE RUSSIAN MYSTIC INFLUENCER GRIGORI EFIMOVICH RASPUTIN WAS AN IMPORTANT FACTOR THAT LED TO THE RUSSIAN REVOLUTION. Rasputin was a Russian mystic/holy man who was close to the Tsar Nicolas II of Russia and his family from 1906 1916. It was believed that Rasputin had a special relationship with the Tsarina Alexandra Feodoronva and had some sort of influence over her decisions. Due to people s paranoia, they slowly distrusted, and subsequently overthrew, the Russian government under the Romanov Dynasty, which had ruled since 1613. This distrust and fear led way for the murder of the Tsar and his family. All this set into motion the development of the Soviet Union, Berlin Wall, and the Communist party. Grigori Effivomich Rasputin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The common people no longer trusted the Tsar to keep them safe, they could have faith no longer. Prince Felix Yusupov, who was married to the Tsar s niece Princess Irina Alexandrovna of Russia, decided to take matters into his own hands. He lured Rasputin to his home, though how he did this is unclear. It is generally believed, however, that Rasputin thought he would be meeting Yusupov s attractive wife. Yusupov laced pastries and wine with cyanide, enough to kill several men. Rasputin ate and drank, but did not die, in fact it seemed, the poison had no effect. Still, Yusupov was determined and shot Rasputin in the back. Rasputin fell to the floor, and with no pulse or signs of life, was presumed dead. A while later, when Yusupov and his friends had been celebrating upstairs, Yusupov decided to check on the body. Rasputin opened his eyes which were allegedly green like a viper. Yusupov and company chased Rasputin, shooting him two more times and beating him with a rubber club. They then tied him up and tossed him into the Neva River. Rasputin s death is shrouded in mystery, as it seems he got free of the binds enough to outstretch his arm, though he had apparently been shot in the head. The autopsy report listed his cause of death as hypothermia, furthering the legend that Rasputin may have been a real magic man. (Cristen) Rasputin reportedly said before his death, If it was one of your relations who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Rockign Horse Winner The short story, Rocking Horse Winner , and the movie based on it contrast considerably. When the written story has ended the movie continues with ideas, which may not come from the author. Three major differences of the two are: the mother, the father, and the ending. In the movie the mother, Hester, is portrayed as a loving and self sacrificing person. While in the short story she is exposed to be a cold hearted, and greedy person. Another instance where the short story and movie differ is the role of the father. In the beginning of the written story the author reveals Hester to be a cold hearted mother. She had bonny children, yet she felt they had been thrust upon her, and she could not love them (75). In public she is thought of as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Paul goes into the coma like state his mother sits at his bedside and cries when he dies. After Paul dies Hester wants nothing to do with the money, she even tells Bassett to burn it. The heartless Hester in the written story never shed a tear when Paul died. Another major difference between the written story and the movie is the character of the father. In the short story the author only mentions him briefly. The father went to town to some office. But though he had good prospects, these prospects never materialized (76). Hester talks about her husband being unlucky frequently, but the husband is never present. Yet in the movie the father plays a moderately significant character. Throughout the movie he is included in the dialogue. He even stands up to Hester a couple of times. Everyday the father goes to work while trying to find a better job. Everyday when he gets home she asks if he had any luck finding a better job. When he reply s that he didn t have any luck, she belittles the job he does have. When the father loses the job he does have Hester and Uncle Oscar both scold him. The most important difference between the movie and the written story is when the written story ends the movie continues with ideas, which may not come from the author. The movie continues to show the viewer Hester s reaction to Paul s death. When Paul dies she orders Bassett to take the rocking horse out of the house and burn it. When Bassett asks her what ... The policy towards Germany s aggressive acts before the war had been one of pacification. Unfortunately, this left the Western powers with a deficient military and unprepared for war when it began. The Germans swept through Europe. They defeated Poland in September 1939 to start World War II. During the spring of 1940, Germany conquered Belgium, Denmark, Holland, Norway, and France. Italy had joined the war as an ally of Germany, Russia had signed a treaty of non aggression, and the United States remained neutral. • 13. The Debate Over Death Penalty Parker Coss Professor Reiner Writing 39C 7/20/16 Debates over Death Penalty in the United States The issue of death penalty today is a popular topic for numerous public and scholarly discussions. The death penalty has a long and distinguished history in the United States, as it has been around in some form either official or otherwise since the beginning of American society. America originally adopted the British justice system, with hundreds of crimes being punishable by death. Slowly but surely, states began to eliminate the number of things that could lead to the death penalty. Likewise, new methods were introduced, with the electric chair coming about around the turn of the 1900s. The modern death penalty system came after the Supreme Court ruled the death penalty unconstitutional in Furman v. Georgia. Today, the death penalty is only available for murder, only available for people over 18, and not available for people who are mentally retarded. While the differences in punishment between death penalty states and non death penalty states is severe, the difference in outcomes is not as severe. While one would expect death penalty states to have lower murder rates because of the fear of the death penalty, the opposite ends up being true. In death penalty states, the murder rate has been significantly higher in every year since 1990. States without the death penalty also feature lower general crime rates. • 14. Examples Of Altruism Altruism is the virtue of unselfishness. It is the principle and practice of concern for others. T ypically it is associated with selfless acts like volunteering and helping the less fortunate. Altruists are commonly stereotyped to those who ve given greatly to those in need, to the extent in which they seemingly put those in need over themselves. The Dalai Lama and Mahatma Gandhi are common icons for this theory. Pure altruism is the form of the virtue in which one can perform altruist acts while remaining completely unselfishly motivated. A circumstance of this would be donating money for the benefit of others with no personal self satisfaction or mental rewarding. An example of a pure altruist act is an innocent mother risking her life to save her young child, and dying as the result of saving her child. I do acknowledge a fair hearing towards this and agree it is morally courageous in our present western society. However, seemingness is a true factor that is predetermined in this sense. It s not the question of what the mother gains from death that s important, but the theme of absence gained from living. Well they have no natural predators, there s way too many of them, and they are dramatically changing the number of animals. To continue, the Burmese python doesn t regularly eat the same thing. Every meal is different in the Everglades. Since they re carnivores , they go after all the small birds and mammals . The pups double their weight during nursing and are weaned after three to four weeks. Mating likely occurs shortly after weaning, though little is known of the breeding system. Ribbon seals are known to eat a variety of fishes, cephalopods, and crustaceans; however, information about their feeding habits is limited and mostly restricted to the spring when ribbon seals are typically feeding less, as evidenced by their decreased weight and blubber thickness. Although there is little direct evidence of predation, potential predators of ribbon seals include polar bears, killer whales, sharks, and walruses. Ribbon seals are relatively unwary while hauled out and can be approached closely by boat. This behavior suggests that ribbon seals probably do not experience much predation by polar bears, but may also make them especially susceptible to hunting by man. Siberia and Alaska Natives have hunted the ribbon seal for many generations for subsistence, and the current annual take by Alaska Natives is estimated to be less than 200 seals per year. Commercial harvests of ribbon seals were conducted by Soviet sealers in the 1960s to 1980s, during which time the Bering Sea population is thought to have declined from 80,000 or 90,000 animals to 60,000. Surveys during the early and mid 1970s put the worldwide population estimate of ribbon seals between 200,000 and 240,000, with estimates ranging between 60,000 and 100,000 in the Bering Sea (Shustov, 1972; Burns, 1981). It is well known fact that with the number of transmit antenna M and number of receive antenna N, the capacity of MIMO systems increases linearly with a factor of MN. The receiver decodes the received signal vectors into actual information, a narrow band flat fading MIMO is designed as: Y=Hx+n (1) Where Y x are received and transmitted vectors, H is channel matrix n is the noise. During the last decade, MIMO techniques in wireless industry have gained a huge interest in the study. MIMO is treated as an extension of conventional smart antenna systems (SAS). In SAS, techniques of beamforming are deployed and the optimal antenna weighting vector that determines antenna radiation pattern is computed based on the optimal criterion such as maximum signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR), minimum mean square error (MMSE) [8]. The ability to exploit and use the multipath propagation can be considered as one of the major advantages of MIMO systems. In contrast to transmit beamforming schemes, channel state information (CSI) is generally not required at the transmitter of MIMO systems. Stories are told in different ways, and those stories shape the person tremendously. Many of the stories told today are what shape the audience. In The Things they Carried , by Tim O Brien, and the film Big Fish , directed by Tim Burton, stories are portrayed to be productive because the characters all have an American Dream and their stories help the characters achieve tasks to get to their American Dream. Americans think it is key to keep their children s dreams alive, they encourage them at a young age to express how they feel and what they dream of for their future. Kids grow up used to the idea of sharing their stories and create more meaningful connections with everyone they encounter. In Big Fish, Edward Bloom told his son stories growing up to show him that anything is possible. Throughout the film, Ed Bloom got his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Human Ecology Theory And Community Theory Community Theory In the Macro level of social work, communities are the primary settings for human behavior. Communities are clusters of people who have something in common. A major social work perspective views communities as entities where citizens can organize or be organized in order to address mutual concerns and improve their over all quality of life. Throughout this paper I will discuss four conceptual perspectives of communities. I will cover the following, Human Ecology, Socio Psychological, Structural, and Functionalist. These perspectives are important for a social worker to understand in order to create change for the individuals in a community. In the process of explaining each perspective I will also discuss the key concepts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These characteristics are usually race, ethnicity, religion, social pressure, or personal choice. These Ecological concepts demographics, competition, segregation and integration can help social workers analyze a community in terms of its fairness and support to all of its members. One of the strengths gathered from this perspective is that it allows for the issues to be identified and it implements change as needed. The Human Ecology perspective can help frame subsequent questions like how to change the situation. It has concern for the individuals within the community but its main focus is on the environment. With the focus on the environment it will be better to determine why people behave the way they do. One of the concepts of this perspective is also one of tis strengths and that is when integration occurs. Members will come together and function as a whole. However, this theory does have its weaknesses. For one when the demographics mentioned are becoming unlivable members will compete and segregate themselves. This causes the community to always be in chaos. Viewing communities from a Human Ecology perspective it provides a useful assessment mechanism for understanding why people act as they do within the context of the larger community macro system. Social Psychological Theory This theory is defined on how members within a community feel about themselves as well as their behavior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Defining Intelligence Essay Intelligence is defined by the American Heritage Dictionary as being the capacity to acquire and apply knowledge. When knowledge is spoken of, it is generally used in terms of education. The extent of education a person has achieved is then what most often determines how much knowledge one has accumulated. Nevertheless, with this definition of intelligence in mind, one might possibly consider the average person to be intelligent. After all, even a person who has never gone to school a day in their life is capable of acquiring knowledge and applying it to some area of their life. Acquiring and applying knowledge could be something as simple as being shown how to mop a floor and then conducting the job using the newly gained know how. What ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Children, for instance, all have different areas in which they excel. A child who excels in school and is listed on the honor roll each term would obviously be considered intelligent. However, a child who is very talented in music but obtains bad marks in school might not be deemed a smart child by the average person; nevertheless, this child would also be considered intelligent. Once a person has an idea of what intelligence is and what it means, a final thought one might consider is what influences are responsible for the different types of intellect. Two possible influences are genetics and the environment in which one lives, with genetics being the strongest influence (Santrock, 2009, pg. 302). Most researchers agree that a person s genetics and environment interact with one another to influence the outcome of that person s intelligence (Santrock, 2009, pg. 302). Genetic influences should be pretty obvious, so there should be no need to explain it; a person s environment on the other hand, can involve several factors. An environment can consist of elements such as a person s school, home, friendships, family relationships, and workplaces. All of these components factor in to influence a person s intelligence. In conclusion, I must say that intelligence can certainly be considered a broad word. It is a word that has varying definitions depending on the source from which the definition comes. The reason for this seems to be because people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Dispositional Optimism Research Paper Utilizing Dispositional Optimism Life is tough. Life forces humans to endure in a universe that may be completely random and nothing in it may hold any meaning aside from the arbitrary value that I attribute. Moreover, if nothing means anything in life, then there is no true reason in living. We are all just postponing the inevitable great equalizer we call death. Why not just skip the hardship, pain, and suffering that exists in this world and get straight to a place where we cannot feel its horrors anymore? When thinking thoughts such as these, I expect to find that such a negative, pessimistic disposition might not yield beneficial results. Conversely, one might infer that an host weilding an optimistic disposition will have a greater ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I indeed have improved the way in which I attain a goal that I want to achieve. I plan to further establish this mindset while continually striving toward and improving how I realize my goals. Sustaining this optimistic mindset might be a difficult task; I expect to reap a constructive outcome ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Evolution Of Primate Intelligence Essay The evolution of primate intelligence. Intro and summary Inquisitiveness, probably one if the most important trait a human being exhibits. This characteristic has also extended to our quest to understand own past. One of the most fundamental reasons why we are interested in the other primates is to obtain a precise view of how our ancestor may have lived. Trying to get an insight into their environment, food, and social structure. Although there is no direct evidence to prove that we as human beings have descended from any modern type monkey or ape, our genealogy does indicate that we have gone through stages, in which we possibly evolved from a relatively medium sized creature with good binocular vision, hands with good dexterity the ability to climb trees. An evolutionary trend seen in primates involves the development of offspring both before and after birth and their assimilation into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another trait seen in primate evolution has been a more elaborate brain. In addition to brain size and gestation periods, the social organization also demonstrates and plays an important role in primate evolution due to its complexity and hierarchy. Brain evolution The fundamental explanation for the evolution of large relative brain size in early primates remains undetermined and disputed (Insel). In particular, the neocortex of many primates has undergone substantial expansion, and has reached its largest in humans (Rilling and Insel, 1999). The neocortex is generally associated with, cognitive memory, and higher order information processing. Emotions such as fear, happiness, jealousy and understanding the need for conflict resolution stem from this part of the brain. Although, many theories have been put forth to account for cerebral expansion in primates, Epiphenomenal and developmental models have interpreted brain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Gender Roles Of Early Childhood Development Gender Roles in Early Childhood Development In a society filled with gender stereotypes, children often adopt gender roles as they move from childhood to adolescence because of the many factors that influence their views to the point they will deny certain roles because it does not fit the gender bias. During the early years, boys and girls will usually be drawn towards gender specific activities. Playing house for example, they little boy will imitate going to work, while the little girl will imitate cooking in the kitchen and playing with the baby doll. Gender stereotypes are embedded in our culture as a social identity giving norms to how gender is defined. This paper is going to discuss the child s earliest exposure to gender roles in the home from clothing, toys and expectations to society s role in gender bias on early childhood development. Children learn as early as age two what it means to be a boy or a girl (Aina Cameron). This is described as gender identity, a person s sense of self as male or female. Gender stereotyping emerges hand in hand with the development of gender identity in Early Childhood (Halim). Gender roles are society s expectations of the proper behavior, attitudes and activities of males and females. When babies are born they are either put in pink or blue, as they grow up they still maintain the same gender colors. As young children start to socialize, they are playing with either girl toys or boy toys. When they get older they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
