Texas Tech University Scholarship Essay
Scholarships have always been a mandatory aspect of my college career. As an undergraduate student
at Texas Tech University, I was solely responsible for paying for my tuition and I applied for as many
scholarships as I could find. Working throughout the years was necessary so that I could afford my
tuition. While my parents wanted to help me, they were not financially able to. One of my sisters
currently attends Texas A M University and my other sister will attend college in 2 years. Because of
this, finances in my home have been tightly spread. In order to return to school to receive my Master s
Degree, I will have to apply for loans and scholarships once again.
Music has been one of my greatest passions throughout my life. Being involved in music at Texas
Tech University was not only a way to relieve stress, it gave me the opportunity to grow as a leader. I
was a member of the Goin Band from Raiderland, Texas Tech s marching band, for four years. During
my time as a member of the Goin Band, I was selected to become a visual instructor. As a visual
instructor, I learned to work with a team of other college students to ... Show more content on

One of the philosophies I follow as I go through my life is from Ghandi, who stated The best way to
find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. As a student at Texas Tech, I ensured that I
continued to follow this philosophy. One of the organizations that I joined, Tau Beta Sigma, had a goal
of providing service to the community through music. We helped support the Goin Band and other
musical organizations in Lubbock, as well as using music to provide comfort to people by playing in
nursing homes and elementary schools. I also spent countless hours volunteering at therapy clinics in
the Houston and Lubbock areas. Being a volunteer at these clinics allowed me to not only learn about
the profession I wanted to pursue, but to also help people in the

One On One Observation
After reading chapter thirteen and fourteen, I have chosen to do my observation on a show called One
on One and the I Carly show. While watching One on One, the main characters in this show was
Breanna, who was the daughter, Arnez, who was Breanna best friend, Spirit, who was Breanna and
Arnez s best friend, and Breanna s dad, whose name was Flex. Breanna has an outfit that looks way
back from the 90 s. She is kind of the laid back member of the group. Her favorite part of the outfit is
her earring hoops because she wears the in almost every episode. Breanna s gestures look very fun.
She loves to get very hype and dance a lot. As the volume was on mute, I observed that in this
episode, she was very happy and laughed a lot. Breanna s facial expressions was that throughput the
ten minutes of watching the episode, it seemed like she joked a lot. ... Show more content on

He has on pants and a shirt, which says that he s just looking to have a chilled day in this episode.
Arnez s gestures seem to be slow and focused on things. For example, when he is talking to someone,
he seems to be focused on them and only them. He also looks them directly in the eye. Arnez s facial
expression seemed to be a little serious. Spirit s dress outfit says that she loves to make her own style.
Spirit is a fashion designer in the show. She loves creating her own outfit. In this episode, her outfit
has assorted colors, and she has her hair in a nice her style, such as braids and it is curled towards the
end of the braid. Spirit s has a lot of hand gestures when talking. Seems like she communicates a lot
with her hand gestures within the show. Spirit s facial expressions seem to be very concerning. Flex s
dress is more like a business attire in this episode. Flex has strong and demanding gestures. His facial
expressions seem to be mad all the time or confused when

Cesar Chavez Nonviolent Resistance Summary
Cesar Chavez argues about the importance of using nonviolent resistance to achieve change in society.
His use of historical allusions, pathos, and logos leave his audience with little doubt as to the proper
course of action. Further on in the article, Chavez adds power to his contentions with implications.
The boycott, Gandhi taught, is the most nearly perfect instrument of nonviolent change. This
implication to Gandhi, a notable and regarded advocate for serene resistance, adds validity to Chavez
contention by suggesting that Gandhi would have concurred with and bolstered Chavez claims.
Chavez increases on his believability by making a historical allusion soon after. Examine history. Who
gets killed in the case of violent revolution?

Collapse Of The Minoan Civilization
Since the rediscovery of the site of Knossos by Sir Arthur Evans in 1900, the cause of the fall of the
Minoan Civilization has been largely debated throughout the years. Scientists and archaeologists have
proposed various hypotheses to the mystery, mainly regarding to environmental factors such as the
eruption of Thera Volcano and subsequent tsunamis, earthquakes and climate change; or social and
political factors like societal conflicts and invasion of the Mycenaeans. This paper examines the
relationship between the demise of the Minoan Civilization and the natural disasters it encountered
which severely weakened and eventually led to the downfall of the civilization, and opened the way
for Mycenaean domination of Aegean (Middleton, G.D., 2012).
The Minoan Civilization was a civilization of the Bronze Age which arose in the island of Crete,
Greece and flourished from around 2600 BC to 1100 BC. It is considered to be the first advanced
civilization in Europe, where the Minoans formed complex and vibrant societies consisting of
warriors, merchants, artists, farmers, sailors, sea traders and all kinds of people. They were also the
first to use a written language in Europe, namely Linear A. Despite how intelligent these people were,
the Minoan Civilization collapsed at its peak of splendor in 1450 BC, leaving traces of its grandeur
and essential clues to their legend.
The most popular theory to their collapse is associated with the tremendous eruption of Thera.

Legalization of Drugs Essay
The current hot topic debate about the legalization of marijuana for medical exposes the long lasting
debate about the economic viability of prohibiting certain kind of drugs considered illicit. Many social
costs to society are attributable to illicit drugs, along with tobacco, alcohol, and guns. In fact, each of
these vices is allegedly responsible for $200 billion annual expenditure in social costs of the USA
(Donohue, 2010). Interestingly, all these commodities mentioned above have common characteristics:
a sizeable proportion of consumers responsibly use each of them hence virtually zero social
externality; and a trivial subset of society individuals irresponsibly use each of these commodity to
create high social externalities. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, their claim is relatively true because drug addicts produce negative externalities that affect
non market participants who include dependents of the drug addicts. This direct causal relationship
between drugs and crime is due to statistics that reveal a large proportion of the newly incinerated
convicts have recent prior drug use. One then could counter this premise with the argument that
energy drinks cause crimes in case criminals are found to have drunk energy drinks just before
committing crimes. This shallow assumption also excludes studies that reveal marijuana as neither a
gateway drug (its use leads to use of dangerous drugs like cocaine and Heroin) nor its possession
(which is a crime in itself) causes criminal tendencies. Their causal link relationship between drugs
and crime negates other factors that include demographics and socio economics. Proponents of
prohibition claim that it reduces demand and restrict supply, thereby diminishing drugs use, and the
costs of illness. Prohibition is certain to reduce the supply of drugs due to the stiff penalties imposed
on suppliers. However, their argument lacks authentic verification as numerous studies within the
USA and from other countries where these illicit drugs have been criminalized paint a different
picture.
Prohibition in this case refers to a government decree against the exchange of a good or a service

A New Kind of Dreaming
Conflicts and challenges cause the characters to change and grow
Introduction:
Anthony Eaton s a new Kind of Dreaming helps the reader to recognise the various challenges and
conflicts that cause the characters to change and grow. Anthony Eaton best expresses Jamie as an
outsider that is trying to find his place in the world, while uncovering the secrets of Port Barren s
shady past. This changes Jamie from an adolescent delinquent to a responsible and admirable person.
Jaime develops friendships that lead him to trusting and sympathetic qualities that are unusual for him
in his past of crime. Jamie faces a challenge to build a stronger relationship with Cameron, but this is
an obstacle for Cameron as he tries to understand Jamie and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Having Cameron in his life changed Jamie and challenged him to become a more preferable person.
Body Paragraph 2:
A challenge that Jamie has to face and overcome is when he tries to have some sense of belonging to
the community of Port Barren. Archie, his guardian throughout the novel, tells him his version of a
dreamtime story called The wanderers and the lost ones . This story challenges Jamie to think whether
he is lost or a wanderer. This makes him feel responsible for finding out who is disturbing the balance
and it is up to him to try and restore it. This is shown to the reader when Jamie thinks, It was weird, no
beginning, no middle, no end, no plot. And yet he couldn t shake the feeling that there was something
important behind the strange words. He pondered it but couldn t make anything of it [page 126]. The
story makes Jamie wonder who he is and how he belongs in the community. This challenges him to
think more about himself and what he needs to do to change and become a better person. This also
made him change the way he thought about himself, it made him to thrive to do the best he can.
Conclusion:
Jamie faces many conflicts and challenges throughout the novel and they all have an effect that makes
him change in character. Jamie s close relationship with Cameron helps him to thrive to be more

Communism In America
In the words of Abraham Lincoln, Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.
Freedom has been a topic of many meetings of Congress over the past few centuries, as it is one of the
main American ideals that formed our great nation. However, in the last seventy years, there have
been many attacks upon the American people that instill fear in the hearts of many. Fear in a large
group of people leads to rash decisions that could eventually precipitate the loss of the common man s
freedom. Losing freedom due to fear shies away from all of the traditional American ideals of our
forefathers, one of which was opportunity and freedom of the common man. In the late 1940s and the
early 1950s, United States citizens were left in tumult when they caught wind of the impending
shadow of communism. This was the Red Scare, a period of time many people today use when
describing mass hysteria and scapegoating. Communism in America ... Show more content on

The legalization of gay marriage has been a controversial issue in many state courts since the mid
1970s. Gay marriage scares many people because it strays from the norms of heterosexual
relationships. Traditional American ideals have become a part of culture and society that everyone,
regardless of sexual orientation, or race, or gender, expect to have as a basic human rights. Several
times in history these have been identified as inalienable rights. One of the expected rights of many
American citizens is the right to choose who they love, who they marry, and how they live their day to
day life. When heterosexual Americans were introduced to the idea of same sex marriage, they
became afraid that it would taint the minds of the young members of the community, since
homosexualty was and still is frowned upon in the community. Thus, the homosexual community s
opportunity to freely choose how to live their life is taken

Starting my opening school experience I was nervous. I could not eat or sleep the day before. I woke
up bright and early to arrive at Woodland Middle School by 7:30am only to find out the school did not
open up till 8:30am. I was not upset that I got there so early, and in fact, it was a great because I got a
chance to get familiar with the school and its principal, Dr. J. Stamper. Woodland Middle school is
located behind Camp Creek and is on Stone Rd. Their colors are blue and gold. The mascots of the

brief meeting I learned that Woodland is a focus school. A focus school is the school s bottom 25% is

Examples Of Archetypal Criticism In In The Time Of The...
An American poet once stated, Great literature is simply language charged with meaning to the utmost
possible degree (Pound). Every piece of literature has a impactful underlying meaning and can be
interpreted into universal symbols, motifs, and patterns. Archetypal Criticism is a theory based off
common myths, images, and symbols in literature. The definition of archetypal can be defined as a
very typical example of a certain person or thing (Davidson). With that said, Archetypal Criticism can
be applied to In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez. Alvarez uses common character types,
like the hero and the villian, and also uses the symbol of butterflies in her novel.

people view the butterfly as representing endurance, change, hope, and life (Edwards). The term
butterfly was the sisters code name for the movement. The butterfly was a symbol for them, not only
because that is what they were called, but also because they symbolized what it meant to be a
butterfly. The Mirabal sisters changed from being little children, following their parents, to individuals
leading a revolution and having other people follow them. When Minerva was young she stated, I had

the quality improvement process continues to the subcommittees that look into different aspects of
quality management (Carlson, 2014, p. 8). For example, the Infection Prevention Committee looks
into quality management aspects regarding the prevention of infections (Carlson, 2014, p. 8). Each

Treatment Of Recurrent Erythema Multiforme
Apremilast for Treatment of Recurrent Erythema Multiforme
Introduction
Recurrent erythema multiforme (EM) is an uncommon skin condition with unclear etiology
considered to be a hypersensitivity reaction presenting commonly in young adults with distinctive
targetoid skin lesions with or without mucosal lesions. These cases are typically treated with antiviral
therapies or immunosuppressive agents in more extreme cases. We present a case of recurrent EM in a
young adult that resolved completely after treatment with Otezla (apremilast), an oral medication
originally developed for the treatment of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.
Case report
A 21 year old African American female with a history of recurrent skin lesions on lips, tongue and soft
palate for over ten years. She was initially diagnosed at age 6 with Behcet s syndrome due to presence
of recurrent oral and genital ulcers as well as joint pain and swelling. She stated that she has about six
episodes per year with recurrence after treatment. For acute episodes, she was given treatment with
prednisone for management of oral and genital lesions, which has been used intermittently. She was
additionally treated with colchicine, dapsone and hydroxychloroquine with no response. It is unclear
when these treatments were administered or for what duration the patient adhered to these regimens.
Lesions resolved completely with no new lesions after one month of therapy on Otezla. There has not
been a recurrence for 4 months.

Boston Massacre Propaganda Essay
Was the Boston Massacre used as propaganda after event took place? The Massacre occurred in 1770
on the night of March 5. The event resulted in the British army shooting and killing 5 men while under
attack by a so called mob . The shootings took place right outside of The Old State House. Eight
shooters were arrested, but soon after their trials it came down to only two of the six to be convicted of
manslaughter. This led to colonial leaders like Paul Revere and Samuel Adams publicizing the event.
The publicity was used to change the way colonists felt about the British authorities and in particular
was used to help unite the colonies and spread the cause of Independance. As a result of the Boston
Massacre, the colonists were able to use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soon after the Massacre, colonists brought up the event at memorials for the people who had died. It
was written in a paper which quoted Americans! Bear in remembrance the HORRID
MASSACRE...when five of your fellow countrymen lay...basely and most inhumanly MURDERED! .
That quote was used in the Memorial for those who had died in the Boston Massacre and to remind
everyone that they were killed because the British soldiers felt threatened by a bunch of unarmed
innocent bystanders who were throwing a little shade.
The Boston Massacre was said to be the event that brought the colonies closer to unite against the
British Government and these conflicts between the colonists and the British army were rising because
of how the British Government was trying to gain more control over the American colonies while also
trying to raise the American taxes. The Massacre was used to encourage colonists to fight harder for
their freedom and independence but also was known as a zero hour in the American Revolution. This
point had allowed groups like the Groups like the Sons of Liberty to use it to show the corruption of
British rule.

Chronic Myeloid Leukemia ( Leukemia )
Abstract
There are many types of leukemia that affect thousands of people each year and many do not survive
this type of cancer. Yearly occurrences of new cases reach up to about 54,000 and almost half of this
staggering number end fatally. The four types that are most common for this cancer are acute myeloid
leukemia (AML), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), and chronic
lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
Leukemia is a cancer of the blood cells where abnormally high counts of white blood cells are
produced in the bone marrow. These are the primary cells in the body that fight infection but when
they are abnormal as in this case, they cannot be an effective defense mechanism. In their normal
routines of fighting infection, controlling bleeding, and transport of oxygen, the normal functions of
the body begin to break down often leading to fatality.
The cancer of the body s blood forming tissue can be acute, with a rapid onset of symptoms and be
very aggressive in nature. Chronic leukemias are a slow developing cancer and the symptoms may not
be detectable once they have begun to develop in the system. Leukemia has many different forms
where some are more common in children and others in more prevalent in adults. This cancer affects
thousands of people yearly with an estimated number of new cases reaching approximately 54,000.
The symptoms can vary depending on how fast the disease proliferates in the body. The cancer is
treated and

Racial Inequality
Racial Inequality Race has been viewed differently, in the world, these past 400 years. Throughout
these years, racial hierarchies have been defined and created by the people s recognition of inferior
people. Skin color is one of many ways inferiority has been seen throughout history and even to this
day. The only reason changes in interpretation of race came to be possible was because of regulations
that were put into place throughout those years, the laws that were created for them, and of course, the
nonviolent civil rights movements. Regulations like the Las Siete Partidas (Spanish) and The Code
Noir (French) are good examples of differences in racial behaviors of different communities. These
codes were special laws for the slaves to follow, sometimes giving power to the slave. In the Las Siete
Partidas , a slave could be freed if he reports a rape of a virgin woman, find a man who makes
counterfeit money, sees a military leader abandon his post at the frontier, or informs about a plot
against the Queen. Also, if the owner put a female slave to prostitution, she is to be freed because the
owner receives money for it and it is considered an ill will . Basically, the Las Siete Partidas made it
easier for slaves in Spain to become free, hence why they had a large population of freed slaves in
Spanish America. A different image captured in 1615 talked about the enslavement of the Incans. The
Incans were enslaved for agricultural and mining labor, but later the

Why We Should Study Chimpanzees
Animals such as chimpanzees have rights. Even though they may not be humans, they are living
creatures. Jane Goodall watches the videotape of chimpanzees which inspires her to visit them. She

small cages with nothing to do. No toys, no being around any other chimpanzees, nothing. Jane then
visits another lab where only baby chimps were playing around with toys and other chimpanzees, but
the older chimps were trapped inside cages. People who work with lab animals should understand the
animal s behaviors. Whether it s good or bad, knowing this should be mandatory when people work
with them. Since chimpanzees are smart, similar to humans,

Problems Associated With Flood Patterns And Poor Water...
Introduction
The River Churn has various issues associated with flood patterns and poor water quality, affected by
continually changing land use patterns. A bi product is the negative impact that poor water quality has
had on ecology. The main aim therefore was to improve the water quality and biodiversity in order to
meet the demands of EU Legislation, during a three year pilot project. The approach was provided by
the WILD Project (Water with Integrated Local Delivery). The WILD Project was initiated in 2013, by
FWAG (The Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group), set within the Cotswold Water Park (FWAG
South West, 2015).
The EU Legislative Body is the Water Framework Directive (WFD) defining a water body as not a
commercial product like any others, but instead a heritage which must be protected, defended and
treated as such (European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, 2000). Under the
Community Water Policy Seminar (1998), the need for Community legislation covering ecological
quality was established. Therefore an integrated Community policy on water was developed, an area
that the WILD Project has incorporated, using an Integrated Local Delivery method integrated with a
Catchment Based Approach . The main objective was achieving the good ecological status on all
surface and groundwater, or in heavily modified sections the river must achieve good ecological
potential (European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, 2000). The

Predator-Prey Relationships
Type here. Generally in nature there is only one type of relationship the predator and prey relationship.
Everyone knows that relationship but in some instances two of the same or different species can work
together for a mutual goal. However sometimes they can become the most uncanny pair of friends the
world has ever seen.
The first instance in which two of the same species would work together would be like in a wolf pack
when a mother has just had a litter of puppies. Some of the wolves will bring the mother food to feed
her young.while the pack does this the mother is teaching her little ones the hierarchy of the pack and
how to use their heightened senses to track prey and find other wolves. Once the pups are old enough
to start hunting and help bring in food the mother can also go back to helping. Once mating season
rolls around again the whole process starts again. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this relationship both species help one another to survive. The relationship starts with the hermit
crab walking along the ocean floor it is hiding from predators because it has no way to protect its
back. That is where the sea anemone comes into play. The sea anemone gets a free ride on the hermit
crabs back and stings any predators that come close. This type of relationship is called mutualism it is
when both species benefit.
In conclusion there are many types of relationships between species not just predator and prey. These
animals can work together to benefit one another. However some animals are not looking for someone
to help them survive some are just looking for a

deputy Chief Executive Officer. Upon his appointment Mohaqiq declared that he wanted 22 percent of
of all cabinet ministries and governorships for his ethnic group , the Hazaras. In spite of this, President
Ghani does deserve commendation for selecting a Hazara representative in such a high post which is a
rare occurrence. However, this is at the cost of putting merit before personalities, which is a systemic
problem in the country. Tensions were also heightened when the country s President and Chief
Exectuive Officer, Abdullah Abdullah, considerably delayed appointing a new cabinet, which it was
claimed was due to disputes over power sharing

Cross Cultural Communication Varies Depending On The Cultures
Candidate No.436070 Cross cultural communication varies depending on the cultures. Although
students have a high level of proficiency, second language learners still find difficulties while being
understood that cross cultural differences appear in speaking their second language. This concern
makes learners consider that pronunciation might be the cause of the misunderstanding. However,
fluency and accuracy elements are very important for effective conversation, learners of English as a
second language may find themselves in a difficult position when they have to speak with native
speakers of English, because they have received enough knowledge in areas such as grammar,

And here I do mention that some learners of English learn the language in foreign environments,
where English is not the language of the surrounding culture. For example, a person may learn English
as a foreign language in Istanbul, Turkey, challenged by a lack of knowledge that needs to be supplied
artificially by the teacher. This dynamic may lead to a pragmatic competence that it is limited to what
can be taught in the classroom. And my country Uzbekistan is one of the Asian countries and its
people have different attitudes in greeting, in hosting and etc, from nations of English speaking
countries. So, in my research I am going to identify a good way of teaching cultural, pragmatic
features of the English language.
My research paper addresses this key question:
Is video material useful to teach pragmatic features of English in Uzbek classes?
In my research I am going to give another view of teaching English in pre intermediate classes,
because according to the curriculum of the education system of Uzbekistan, teaching a foreign
language mostly consists of grammar ad structured dialogues that can be learnt by special English
course books. And my goal is to prove that it is not only way to teach a target language in pre
intermediate classes and using video materials increases learners not only linguistic competences, but
also awareness of cultural and pragmatic features of the English language.

Oral Hygiene And Oral Health
The oral cavity is more often than not viewed as a separate entity than the rest of the body. This is a
mistake due to the overriding effect the mouth has on the rest of the body. This view needs to cease
immediately due to the fact that oral health affects what people eat, their quality of life, and their
speech.1 Oral health also plays an important role with chronic diseases. Unfortunately, oral health has
not been a priority among many healthcare professionals, and this has lead to millions of patients

Oral health affects people not just physically but also psychologically and it really influences how
they grow up in life.1 Denta caries takes away from people s quality of life. Pain, discomfort,
disfigurement, acute and chronic infections, and eating and sleep disruption as well as higher risk of
hospitalization, sre all in play when oral health is not tended to properly. With children, nutrition, and
weight gain are affected by propoer oral health care. Children will develop toothaces, which leads to
less eating, which leads to unhealthy habits for growing chilfredn. Poor helath care is like a chain
reaction of bad descisions. Poor oral health can also lead to poor sleeping habits which decreases
hemoglobin and a depressed erthyroctyre count. 3
In Brazil, in 2009, ninety per cent of pre adolescents reported an issue related to oral health4. The
prevalence of dental pain was up to around thirty four percent among Brazilian teenagers. In the

Hour 1
An American computer scientist named John Backus once said, They don t like thinking in medical

school to study at, it almost seems as hard to find a school then actually being in college. Researching
for a college takes a lot of effort and determination. The school should offer the classes required for
the dream career of the student. The school should also have an outstanding campus environment and

focusing on learning. Milwaukee offers many opportunities to be a part of the campus environment by
encouraging students to be a part of activities. The University often offers live music and art shows,

Meat Is The Staple Of The American Diet
Meat has become a staple in the American diet. According to an article published by
NPR, an average American was eating 207.7 pounds of meat per year in 2010 (Barclay). After
research came to light linking cholesterol and saturated fat found in meat products to heart disease,
new food and health guidelines have suggested lowering the amount of meat eaten in the average diet.
The new USDA food guidelines, MyPlate, were formed in 2010 and propose eating 5 ½ oz. of protein
foods a day for a basic 2,000 calorie diet. In their description of what type of protein foods to eat, they
promote more fish consumption, varying protein sources to include plant based proteins, and keeping
meat and poultry portions small and lean. While this is an improvement from past food guidelines, it is
not enough. The USDA is continuing to do
Americans a disservice by promoting meat consumption in general because it leads to serious health
problems, cruelty to animals, and environmental degradation.
One of the largest, most studied, and tangible arguments against eating meat is the negative health
effects it has on the human body. Its consumption has been linked to obesity, cancer, and many organ
disorders. According to a study published in the International Journal of
Obesity, there is a positive association between meat consumption and obesity (Wang and
Beydoun 621). The same study found that eating meat has been related to higher risks of many
chronic diseases, but increasing the consumption of

In Hiroshima, John Hersey Focuses On The Survivors Of The
In Hiroshima, John Hersey focuses on the survivors of the atomic bomb that is dropped on the city of
Hiroshima at the end of World War II. Instead of focusing on one individual, Hersey decides to report
on six that survive the blast. The survivors came from many different walks of life and were all
affected by the coming of the nuclear age. Mrs. Hatsayo Nakamura was a widow raising three young
children. Dr. Terufumi Sasaki was a young surgeon unhurt during the explosion, leaving him to care
for thousands of Hiroshima s wounded. Father Wilhelm Kleinsorge was a German priest that comforts
many of the wounded and dying. Toshiko Sasaki was a young woman working in a factory to make
ends meet for her family and her parents. Dr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bomb caused many slow moving fires throughout the city, some of which soon encroached upon
the park. The fire pushed the wounded toward the riverbank, which became overcrowded, causing
many of those that could be saved to drown. This was only one example of what was seen that day by
the survivors. Eventually, Miss Sasaki was rescued from the factory in which she became trapped, but
was then left under a makeshift shack for days on end before being rescued again. With a broken and
gangrenous leg, Sasaki survives after finally being taken to a hospital. Whatever the survivors of the
bombing of the city of Hiroshima experienced, the thing they share is survival.
The six survivors all were changed in some way after the bombing of Hiroshima. At the end of his
book, Hersey adds a chapter that details what happened to each survivor in the months and years after
the day the bomb was dropped. Mrs. Nakamura ends up suffering from radiation poisoning after the
fact, but ends up eventually getting a decent job and lives well off. Mrs. Nakamura epitomizes the
Japanese idea of Shikata ga nai , which translates roughly into English as It can t be helped . She does
not display much emotion during the events because there s nothing she can do to affect what is
happening to her. Dr. Sasaki ends up leaving the hospital he had worked at during the time before the
bomb was dropped. This could be because of the amount of suffering he saw

Security Legislations And Standards Of The Internet
It can be difficult to make security legislations and standards since the Internet became more
affordable enough and easy enough to access. It s what you would say when everything is free game
for anyone or anything. Even though there are plenty of laws on the books, enforcing them is another
challenge (Shinder, 2011). While information security plays an important role in protecting data and
assets of an organization, this changing world of technology comes with an increase in threats posing
more of a need for legislation to deal with those threats. We need legislation and standards to help
protect our information systems and the people who use them. We have kept legislation at a
generalized status in order to allow organizations and users to freely use information systems. I will
explain how certain criteria and factors are used to enforce certain legislations and standards.
Difficulty Making Security Legislations and Standards
Over the more than two decades since, state and federal governments have passed many statutes to
address the problem of criminal activities that take place over the Internet. In the last few years,
governments have taken up the job of protecting consumers and companies against poor management
of sensitive information. A big part of the reason that cyber criminals get away with their crimes so
easily is that catching cyber criminals and enforcing computer crime laws is difficult. Unfortunately,
this has led to a steady stream of confusing laws and

Essay On Mt St Helens
The Helens Volcano has had minor eruptions before, but the major eruption that it is known for
happened May 18, 1980. Before 1980, snow capped, Mount St. Helens was known as the Fujiyama of
America. Mt. St. Helen is only one of many volcanoes that lie on the ring of fire. This is a highly
active zone that produces frequent earthquake, hot spots, and volcanic activity. This volcano is best
known for its destructiveness. There were minor eruptions in 1898, 1903, 1932, and most of the 20th
century. None of these came close to the damage that the 1980 eruption caused. The eruption lasted
over 2 months and caused that one side of the slope being the north side was destroyed from the
magma. This volcano had ash flow into 11 different states. Out of the 11 states that experienced it s
eruption, 57 people died due to the eruption of Mt. St. Helens. Some state highways and roads had to

Essay on Ice Packs an Endothermic Reaction
* .
Introduction
Endothermic reactions are accompanied by the absorption of heat. The dissolving of ammonium
nitrate in water is an example of an endothermic reaction. The solution resulting from this mixture is
colder than either the ammonium nitrate or the water. This is the simple explanation of what happens
in an instant ice pack. The more detailed information will be discussed in the following paragraphs.
Cold Packs
Most cold packs come with a fabric cover made to absorb condensation and to protect the skin from
contacting the surface of the cold pack. Cold packs are used for injury or muscle relief. The cold pack
contains two bags one containing water and the other containing ammonium chloride. Once the
ammonium chloride is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This cooling reaction occurs instantaneously but lasts for about an hour. How does this reaction
sustain itself for twenty minutes? This question will be answered later in this explanation.
The type of cold pack presented here contains ammonium nitrate, which is a white crystalline
substance. When these crystals react with water they split into positive ammonium ions and negative
nitrate ions. Due to the energy expended by the water in order to dissolve these crystals, the water
becomes colder.
Chemical Reaction
Ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3), is classified as a salt. The salt family of chemicals contains ions,
which are particles with electrical charges. Due to the fact that opposite polarity ions attract each
other, they form a solid crystal that is called salt. This when seen by the naked eye seem like a simple
reaction. Bu, in reality this occurs in two different steps and each step a change of energy takes place.
The first step is the separation of the solid crystals back into separate ions, a positive ammonium ion
and a negative nitrate ion. The break these ionic bonds requires a lot of energy which means heat must
be taken from the surrounding water. The second step the water molecules, which are H2O, are
attracted to the ions and attach themselves to the ions. The second step actually causes heat to be
produced to the surrounding liquid mixture. .Even

  • 2. Texas Tech University Scholarship Essay Scholarships have always been a mandatory aspect of my college career. As an undergraduate student at Texas Tech University, I was solely responsible for paying for my tuition and I applied for as many scholarships as I could find. Working throughout the years was necessary so that I could afford my tuition. While my parents wanted to help me, they were not financially able to. One of my sisters currently attends Texas A M University and my other sister will attend college in 2 years. Because of this, finances in my home have been tightly spread. In order to return to school to receive my Master s Degree, I will have to apply for loans and scholarships once again. Music has been one of my greatest passions throughout my life. Being involved in music at Texas Tech University was not only a way to relieve stress, it gave me the opportunity to grow as a leader. I was a member of the Goin Band from Raiderland, Texas Tech s marching band, for four years. During my time as a member of the Goin Band, I was selected to become a visual instructor. As a visual instructor, I learned to work with a team of other college students to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the philosophies I follow as I go through my life is from Ghandi, who stated The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. One of the organizations that I joined, Tau Beta Sigma, had a goal of providing service to the community through music. We helped support the Goin Band and other musical organizations in Lubbock, as well as using music to provide comfort to people by playing in nursing homes and elementary schools. I also spent countless hours volunteering at therapy clinics in the Houston and Lubbock areas. • 3. One On One Observation After reading chapter thirteen and fourteen, I have chosen to do my observation on a show called One on One and the I Carly show. While watching One on One, the main characters in this show was Breanna, who was the daughter, Arnez, who was Breanna best friend, Spirit, who was Breanna and Arnez s best friend, and Breanna s dad, whose name was Flex. Breanna has an outfit that looks way back from the 90 s. She is kind of the laid back member of the group. Her favorite part of the outfit is her earring hoops because she wears the in almost every episode. Breanna s gestures look very fun. She loves to get very hype and dance a lot. As the volume was on mute, I observed that in this episode, she was very happy and laughed a lot. Breanna s facial expressions was that throughput the ten minutes of watching the episode, it seemed like she joked a lot. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spirit s dress outfit says that she loves to make her own style. Spirit is a fashion designer in the show. She loves creating her own outfit. In this episode, her outfit has assorted colors, and she has her hair in a nice her style, such as braids and it is curled towards the end of the braid. Spirit s has a lot of hand gestures when talking. Seems like she communicates a lot with her hand gestures within the show. Spirit s facial expressions seem to be very concerning. • 4. Cesar Chavez Nonviolent Resistance Summary Cesar Chavez argues about the importance of using nonviolent resistance to achieve change in society. His use of historical allusions, pathos, and logos leave his audience with little doubt as to the proper course of action. Further on in the article, Chavez adds power to his contentions with implications. The boycott, Gandhi taught, is the most nearly perfect instrument of nonviolent change. This implication to Gandhi, a notable and regarded advocate for serene resistance, adds validity to Chavez contention by suggesting that Gandhi would have concurred with and bolstered Chavez claims. Chavez increases on his believability by making a historical allusion soon after. Examine history. Who gets killed in the case of violent revolution? ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Collapse Of The Minoan Civilization Since the rediscovery of the site of Knossos by Sir Arthur Evans in 1900, the cause of the fall of the Minoan Civilization has been largely debated throughout the years. Scientists and archaeologists have proposed various hypotheses to the mystery, mainly regarding to environmental factors such as the eruption of Thera Volcano and subsequent tsunamis, earthquakes and climate change; or social and political factors like societal conflicts and invasion of the Mycenaeans. This paper examines the relationship between the demise of the Minoan Civilization and the natural disasters it encountered which severely weakened and eventually led to the downfall of the civilization, and opened the way for Mycenaean domination of Aegean (Middleton, G.D., 2012). The Minoan Civilization was a civilization of the Bronze Age which arose in the island of Crete, Greece and flourished from around 2600 BC to 1100 BC. It is considered to be the first advanced civilization in Europe, where the Minoans formed complex and vibrant societies consisting of warriors, merchants, artists, farmers, sailors, sea traders and all kinds of people. They were also the first to use a written language in Europe, namely Linear A. Despite how intelligent these people were, the Minoan Civilization collapsed at its peak of splendor in 1450 BC, leaving traces of its grandeur and essential clues to their legend. The most popular theory to their collapse is associated with the tremendous eruption of Thera. Although the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Legalization of Drugs Essay The current hot topic debate about the legalization of marijuana for medical exposes the long lasting debate about the economic viability of prohibiting certain kind of drugs considered illicit. Many social costs to society are attributable to illicit drugs, along with tobacco, alcohol, and guns. In fact, each of these vices is allegedly responsible for $200 billion annual expenditure in social costs of the USA (Donohue, 2010). Interestingly, all these commodities mentioned above have common characteristics: a sizeable proportion of consumers responsibly use each of them hence virtually zero social externality; and a trivial subset of society individuals irresponsibly use each of these commodity to create high social externalities. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course, their claim is relatively true because drug addicts produce negative externalities that affect non market participants who include dependents of the drug addicts. This direct causal relationship between drugs and crime is due to statistics that reveal a large proportion of the newly incinerated convicts have recent prior drug use. One then could counter this premise with the argument that energy drinks cause crimes in case criminals are found to have drunk energy drinks just before committing crimes. This shallow assumption also excludes studies that reveal marijuana as neither a gateway drug (its use leads to use of dangerous drugs like cocaine and Heroin) nor its possession (which is a crime in itself) causes criminal tendencies. Their causal link relationship between drugs and crime negates other factors that include demographics and socio economics. Proponents of prohibition claim that it reduces demand and restrict supply, thereby diminishing drugs use, and the costs of illness. Prohibition is certain to reduce the supply of drugs due to the stiff penalties imposed on suppliers. However, their argument lacks authentic verification as numerous studies within the USA and from other countries where these illicit drugs have been criminalized paint a different picture. Prohibition in this case refers to a government decree against the exchange of a good or a service ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Body Paragraph 2: A challenge that Jamie has to face and overcome is when he tries to have some sense of belonging to the community of Port Barren. Archie, his guardian throughout the novel, tells him his version of a dreamtime story called The wanderers and the lost ones . This story challenges Jamie to think whether he is lost or a wanderer. This makes him feel responsible for finding out who is disturbing the balance and it is up to him to try and restore it. And yet he couldn t shake the feeling that there was something important behind the strange words. He pondered it but couldn t make anything of it [page 126]. The story makes Jamie wonder who he is and how he belongs in the community. This challenges him to think more about himself and what he needs to do to change and become a better person. Freedom has been a topic of many meetings of Congress over the past few centuries, as it is one of the main American ideals that formed our great nation. However, in the last seventy years, there have been many attacks upon the American people that instill fear in the hearts of many. Fear in a large group of people leads to rash decisions that could eventually precipitate the loss of the common man s freedom. Losing freedom due to fear shies away from all of the traditional American ideals of our forefathers, one of which was opportunity and freedom of the common man. In the late 1940s and the early 1950s, United States citizens were left in tumult when they caught wind of the impending shadow of communism. The legalization of gay marriage has been a controversial issue in many state courts since the mid 1970s. Several times in history these have been identified as inalienable rights. One of the expected rights of many American citizens is the right to choose who they love, who they marry, and how they live their day to day life. When heterosexual Americans were introduced to the idea of same sex marriage, they became afraid that it would taint the minds of the young members of the community, since homosexualty was and still is frowned upon in the community. Every piece of literature has a impactful underlying meaning and can be interpreted into universal symbols, motifs, and patterns. Archetypal Criticism is a theory based off common myths, images, and symbols in literature. The definition of archetypal can be defined as a very typical example of a certain person or thing (Davidson). Treatment Of Recurrent Erythema Multiforme Apremilast for Treatment of Recurrent Erythema Multiforme Introduction Recurrent erythema multiforme (EM) is an uncommon skin condition with unclear etiology considered to be a hypersensitivity reaction presenting commonly in young adults with distinctive targetoid skin lesions with or without mucosal lesions. These cases are typically treated with antiviral therapies or immunosuppressive agents in more extreme cases. We present a case of recurrent EM in a young adult that resolved completely after treatment with Otezla (apremilast), an oral medication originally developed for the treatment of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Case report A 21 year old African American female with a history of recurrent skin lesions on lips, tongue and soft palate for over ten years. She was initially diagnosed at age 6 with Behcet s syndrome due to presence of recurrent oral and genital ulcers as well as joint pain and swelling. She stated that she has about six episodes per year with recurrence after treatment. For acute episodes, she was given treatment with prednisone for management of oral and genital lesions, which has been used intermittently. She was additionally treated with colchicine, dapsone and hydroxychloroquine with no response. It is unclear when these treatments were administered or for what duration the patient adhered to these regimens. Lesions resolved completely with no new lesions after one month of therapy on Otezla. The event resulted in the British army shooting and killing 5 men while under attack by a so called mob . The shootings took place right outside of The Old State House. Eight shooters were arrested, but soon after their trials it came down to only two of the six to be convicted of manslaughter. This led to colonial leaders like Paul Revere and Samuel Adams publicizing the event. The Boston Massacre was said to be the event that brought the colonies closer to unite against the British Government and these conflicts between the colonists and the British army were rising because of how the British Government was trying to gain more control over the American colonies while also trying to raise the American taxes. The Massacre was used to encourage colonists to fight harder for their freedom and independence but also was known as a zero hour in the American Revolution. • 17. Chronic Myeloid Leukemia ( Leukemia ) Abstract There are many types of leukemia that affect thousands of people each year and many do not survive this type of cancer. Yearly occurrences of new cases reach up to about 54,000 and almost half of this staggering number end fatally. The four types that are most common for this cancer are acute myeloid leukemia (AML), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Leukemia is a cancer of the blood cells where abnormally high counts of white blood cells are produced in the bone marrow. These are the primary cells in the body that fight infection but when they are abnormal as in this case, they cannot be an effective defense mechanism. In their normal routines of fighting infection, controlling bleeding, and transport of oxygen, the normal functions of the body begin to break down often leading to fatality. The cancer of the body s blood forming tissue can be acute, with a rapid onset of symptoms and be very aggressive in nature. Chronic leukemias are a slow developing cancer and the symptoms may not be detectable once they have begun to develop in the system. Leukemia has many different forms where some are more common in children and others in more prevalent in adults. This cancer affects thousands of people yearly with an estimated number of new cases reaching approximately 54,000. The symptoms can vary depending on how fast the disease proliferates in the body. Throughout these years, racial hierarchies have been defined and created by the people s recognition of inferior people. Skin color is one of many ways inferiority has been seen throughout history and even to this day. The only reason changes in interpretation of race came to be possible was because of regulations that were put into place throughout those years, the laws that were created for them, and of course, the nonviolent civil rights movements. Regulations like the Las Siete Partidas (Spanish) and The Code Noir (French) are good examples of differences in racial behaviors of different communities. These codes were special laws for the slaves to follow, sometimes giving power to the slave. In the Las Siete Partidas , a slave could be freed if he reports a rape of a virgin woman, find a man who makes counterfeit money, sees a military leader abandon his post at the frontier, or informs about a plot against the Queen. Also, if the owner put a female slave to prostitution, she is to be freed because the owner receives money for it and it is considered an ill will . Basically, the Las Siete Partidas made it easier for slaves in Spain to become free, hence why they had a large population of freed slaves in Spanish America. • 21. Problems Associated With Flood Patterns And Poor Water... Introduction The River Churn has various issues associated with flood patterns and poor water quality, affected by continually changing land use patterns. A bi product is the negative impact that poor water quality has had on ecology. The main aim therefore was to improve the water quality and biodiversity in order to meet the demands of EU Legislation, during a three year pilot project. The approach was provided by the WILD Project (Water with Integrated Local Delivery). The WILD Project was initiated in 2013, by FWAG (The Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group), set within the Cotswold Water Park (FWAG South West, 2015). The EU Legislative Body is the Water Framework Directive (WFD) defining a water body as not a commercial product like any others, but instead a heritage which must be protected, defended and treated as such (European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, 2000). Under the Community Water Policy Seminar (1998), the need for Community legislation covering ecological quality was established. Therefore an integrated Community policy on water was developed, an area that the WILD Project has incorporated, using an Integrated Local Delivery method integrated with a Catchment Based Approach . The main objective was achieving the good ecological status on all surface and groundwater, or in heavily modified sections the river must achieve good ecological potential (European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, 2000). Everyone knows that relationship but in some instances two of the same or different species can work together for a mutual goal. However sometimes they can become the most uncanny pair of friends the world has ever seen. The first instance in which two of the same species would work together would be like in a wolf pack when a mother has just had a litter of puppies. Some of the wolves will bring the mother food to feed her young.while the pack does this the mother is teaching her little ones the hierarchy of the pack and how to use their heightened senses to track prey and find other wolves. The dissolving of ammonium nitrate in water is an example of an endothermic reaction. The solution resulting from this mixture is colder than either the ammonium nitrate or the water. The cold pack contains two bags one containing water and the other containing ammonium chloride. Once the ammonium chloride is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This cooling reaction occurs instantaneously but lasts for about an hour. How does this reaction sustain itself for twenty minutes? This question will be answered later in this explanation. The type of cold pack presented here contains ammonium nitrate, which is a white crystalline substance. When these crystals react with water they split into positive ammonium ions and negative nitrate ions. Due to the energy expended by the water in order to dissolve these crystals, the water becomes colder. Chemical Reaction Ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3), is classified as a salt. The salt family of chemicals contains ions, which are particles with electrical charges. Due to the fact that opposite polarity ions attract each other, they form a solid crystal that is called salt. This when seen by the naked eye seem like a simple reaction. Bu, in reality this occurs in two different steps and each step a change of energy takes place. The first step is the separation of the solid crystals back into separate ions, a positive ammonium ion and a negative nitrate ion. The break these ionic bonds requires a lot of energy which means heat must be taken from the surrounding water. The second step the water molecules, which are H2O, are attracted to the ions and attach themselves to the ions. The second step actually causes heat to be produced to the surrounding liquid mixture. .Even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
