Effects Of Dutch Colonization Of Indonesia
Dutch colonization is one of the main influences on modern Indonesia. According to Dutch
Colonization the Dutch controlled Indonesia for nearly 300 years which sprouted many nationalistic
ideas (Dutch Par 2). Indonesia later became independent in 1945 with other countries such as the
United States of America recognizing it as an independent nation. Dutch occupation directly affected
the modern Indonesian political scene, the global spice trade and local Indonesian religion.
Dutch colonialism has greatly influenced the Indonesian governmental system. Dutch occupation
began in the 1600s where the Dutch established Indonesia as a Dutch colony forcefully using superior
weapons and firepower. Dutch colonialism was extremely harsh with various ... Show more content on

Dutch colonization took hold of one of the largest producers of spice in the world Indonesia and its
entire supply of spice. The Dutch controlled the global spice market by controlling the amount of
spice produced to increasing demand in Europe causing the price of spice to increase to make the
maximum amount of profit effectively monopolizing it through force numerous trade routes were
developed with neighbouring countries (Wright Par 4)
. Eventually, as the Dutch lost control of Indonesia, the amount of spice was not regulated causing the
price of spice to decrease as it would be more accessible and be sold in larger quantities. The Dutch
had amazing business skills and took advantage of what they could in Indonesia and monopolized the
spice trade. This caused them to gain great amounts of profit with no real competition. This, however,
was lost as they lost control over Indonesia causing the supply of spice to increase and spices native to
Indonesia to be grown elsewhere. The global market for spice then drastically changed with spice
becoming more accessible removing the barrier of exclusivity causing spice to be less valuable. In
addition to affecting the Entire world, Dutch colonialism also affected the Indonesian people

The Legend Of King Arthur And Le Morte DArthur
Has a book or movie given enjoyment through a hard time? Thomas Malory and Terry Gilliam have
opposing writing styles as a result of the context they wrote their texts in. Thomas Malory, author of
Le Morte d Arthur, writes his book as a compilation of tales and Terry Gilliam writes his version as a
script for a movie. While both Gilliam and Malory use an episodic narrative, Gilliam writes his movie
as a parody to mock old England and other versions of the Legend of King Arthur, and Malory uses
his book as a story that includes immense details about a legend. While Le Morte d Arthur and Monty
Python and the Holy Grail both share a common plot, the works differ on intended purpose and tone.
The audiences each author tries to appease changes each author s writing style; Thomas Malory is
trying to appease a fifteenth century audience who is traumatized by numerous uprisings and despair
due to a history of atrocious kings, while Terry Gilliam is trying to entertain a more modern audience
that wants a humorous and satirical movie. The intended purpose of each of the authors, differ in that
each are delivering their works to a situationally different audience. In the fifteenth century, when Le
Morte d Arthur was written, people were just beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel after a
history of tyrannical kings. Even so, one of the worst Kings of England ever was King Richard III
who was reigning just as the book was written. Although King Richard was not the

The Change In Style Of Jazz Bass
Final Paper
MUSI1024
Explore the change in style of jazz bass since the introduction of electric bass (bass guitar)
Modern 4 string, fretted, horizontally played electric bass was first introduced by Paul Tutmarc in the
1930s. Later in 1950s Leo Fender developed this idea so it could be mass produced and finally
introducing the Fender Precision bass in 1951. Electric bass then started to coexist with the double
basses in jazz, since there were bassists starting to use electric bass as they are easier to be played,
could be easily transported, and were able to be amplified to any volume without feeding back
(Driscoll, 2002).

In jazz, electric bass became a viable option in adding modern timbres and textures to the developing

Symbolism Of Water In Siddhartha
From the instant Siddhartha began his journey to reach enlightenment, water became an essential
detail of the story that spurred his transformation. The story begins with the importance of the river. It
says, In the shade of the house, in the sunshine on the river bank by the boats, in the shade of the
sallow wood and the fig tree, Siddhartha, the handsome Brahmin s son, grew up with his friend
Govinda (3). The river becomes a part of Siddhartha; he begins as a child and ends up as a man. The
river serves as a guide to Siddhartha s journey of attaining unity with his Atman.
In the Hindu belief system, the ocean of samsara serves as an all pervasive symbol. The story of this
symbol tells about the endless journey of crossing the ocean of ... Show more content on

In this primary encounter, Vasudeva hints about the teachings of the river when he says, I love it above
everything. I have often listened to it, gazed at it, and I have always learned something from it. Once
can learn much from a river (49). Later on the ferryman also says, I have learned that from the river
too; everything comes back (49). Vasudeva, who Siddhartha sees as God, lives near the river and
controls the people who pass it. He foreshadows that Siddhartha s enlightenment will only occur once
he experiences all aspects and obstacles of life because it is a part of the rebirth cycle.
When Siddhartha first encounters the river with the ferryman, Vasudeva, he physically crosses it.
While physically crossing it, he also metaphorically crosses it because he leaves to drown in a life of
sin. Siddhartha tries to impress Kamala and opposes all the things he once detested as a Samana and
he went to bathe in the river , signifying him washing away an old life, while he heads towards a new

Analysis Of Old School By Tobias Wolff
In modern society, we often face competition to survive. We may forget our own truth because of our
selfish behavior. However, no person can say that people who value their integrity highly are good
people, and no one is curious about what is and is not really ethical behavior. There are always certain
experiences that shape a person s moral standpoint and integrity. In Old School by Tobias Wolff, he
expresses this message in the book. The main character of the book, is a fictional alter ego of Tobias
Wolff. Throughout this novel, He is trying to provide the basis of truth by using various scenes,
characters, and other incidents, he expressed it. Reading this novel, the audience will probably be
curious about what is true and untruthful. Wolff did not say the name of the protagonist in this novel,
but by writing in the first person, he portrayed the main charger as another self of himself, and through
this manner, readers have had the opportunity to lead themselves. Readers are left to ask, what is the
truthfulness and false in our live.
In the first chapter, the narrator s Jewish background is an important symbol. He has many matter of
inside clashes with his forefather. The narrator is half jewish however he decided to keep this in secret
since he is embarrassed about being jewish. He stated, I had been raised catholic; up to now my

Coeliac Disease Harms the Lining of the Small Intestine
Coeliac disease
Coeliac disease is a condition that harms the lining of the small intestine and stops it from absorbing
parts of food that are important for staying healthy. The damage is cause by taking in gluten. 1 in 100
in UK have coeliac disease, 1 in 300 in Ireland, 1 in 250 in Italy and 1 in 133 in the USA. Studies
have shown that in Europe, USA and other places coeliac disease has enlarged as much as 4 times in
the last 30 years. The cause of coeliac disease is sensitivity to gluten. Gluten is found in common
foods like wheat, barley, and rye and any foods made from them such as bread, pasta and biscuits.
Some people with the disease are usually also sensitive to oats. People with coeliac disease make
antibodies against gluten. Antibodies are proteins in the immune system that usually attack bacteria,
viruses and other germs. The gut makes a mistake and thinks gluten is harmful, and reacts against it as
if it were fighting of a germ. These antibodies lead to irritation evolving the lining of the small
intestine.
Symptoms of coeliac disease can vary from minor to severe. People with minor cases the symptoms
are: Indigestion, rashes, Mild stomach pain, Bloating, Mild diarrhoea or constipation, Anaemia (lack
of iron in the blood) and loss of appetite. The symptoms usually stop and then start again. Small cases
of coeliac disease may not cause any obvious symptoms and the condition if mostly found when
testing for another condition. People with severe coeliac disease

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
CS was first described by Dr. David G Cogan in 1945 as a non syphilitic interstitial keratitis with
vestibuloauditory symptoms (1). CS is rare, with fewer than 250 reported cases in the literature, and is
mostly described in young adult Caucasian patients of both sexes (2). CS is an extremely rare disorder
in Arabic and Middle Eastern countries(3). The novelty of this study is represented by being the first
case reported within Jordanian population that is 7 million people.
The classical form of ocular involvement in CS is characterized by the interstitial keratitis, but also,
iritis or uveitis, scleritis or episcleritis, and conjunctivitis have been also described, and the atypical
CS exists in the absence of interstitial keratitis (2). Some systemic manifestations have been reported
in association with CS, including vasculitis of the aorta leading to aortic aneurysm and/or aortic valve
regurgitation, fever, arthralgia (or arthritis), lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly, skin rash, and peripheral
or central nervous system involvement (2, 4).
The ocular involvement in CS usually gives a good response to topical corticosteroids therapy, while,
systemic corticosteroids are reserved for unresponsive cases or those with posterior uveitis, it was
reported that poor long term ophthalmologic outcomes due to CS are unusual in contrast to
vestibuloauditory affection(4).
Deafness is the most common serious outcome of CS and systemic corticosteroid therapy is warranted

Similarities Between My Last Duchess And Porphyria s Lover
True Love (A Discussion on Robert Browning s My Last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover.) Robert
Browning wrote many amazing dramatic monologues during his time in the 1800 s. The English poet
Robert Browning (1812 1889) is best known for his dramatic monologues. By vividly portraying a
central character against a social background, these poems probed complex human motives in a
variety of historical periods (Gale). Browning was super influential with his monologues during the
Victorian period and even still today. Several of Browning s work is about love. Two of his most

The dutch told the lawyer he made commands, hinting at the fact that he got rid of his duchess
because he was jealous of her smiling at everyone, all the time. In Porphyria s lover the man kills his
lover, and explains how God let them sit together all night with no reaction. And all night long we
have not stirred, and yet God has not said a word (59). The man explained his actions as being
acceptable because God had let him sit next to her dead corpse all night. The last similarity spotted in
these monologues is that both women in the stories are innocent women. Both of the women were
killed without a good justification. My Last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover share several big
similarities. While Browning s monologues shared several similarities, My Last Duchess has details
that are slightly different. The Motive in My last Duchess was based off of the Dukes jealousy. The
Duke was not impressed with the duchesses smiling at everything. A heart How shall I say? too soon

Facts and Information on Fresh Water Ecosystems
1. Compare and contrast the main types of freshwater ecosystems. Name and describe the major zones
or a typical pond or lake. There are two main types of freshwater ecosystems, those that are eutrophic,
and oligotrophic. Both share the same salinity, yet oligotrophic lakes contain more oxygen than fish.
On the flipside, eutrophic ecosystems have more fish than oxygen, which has more cyanobacteria and
require less oxygen. The ecosystems have similar food chains, yet they differ on oxygen resources,
thus making species differ from eutrophic and oligotrophic ecosystems. Ponds would be eutrophic,
and lakes would be oligotrophic from the fish. Ponds not having a cycle of water flowing
differentiates them from each other. 2. Describe three benefits of damming rivers, and three costs.
What environmental, health, and social concerns has China s three gorges dam raised? Many cities
rely on reservoirs for their source of drinkable water. Also, Energy production from dams have the
potential to large amounts of electrical energy and profit. Flooding precautions are beneficial due to

The Paradox Of Emotions In Noel Carroll s The Philosophy...
The genre of horror films have been spooking audiences since the early 1900s with films such as The
Abominable Snowman and Nosferatu. Although fans of these movies are scared, they continue to
watch to the movies every decade despite their fears. This drive to see movies that induce fear but an
overall avoidance to fear is known as a paradox of horror films. In 1990, Noel Carroll outlined the
paradox of horror in his book entitled The Philosophy of Horror. Carroll discussed in his book at least
three theories that could solve the paradox of horror but each are flawed. The two theories that are
connected the most with experience and the knowledge of what a horror movie experience is the
illusion theory and the thought theory of emotions but Carroll leaves out Edmund Burke s sublime in
his discussion of the paradox of horror. This concept of Burke s sublime can be used without flaw to
dissolve the paradox of horror films unlike the illusion theory or the thought theory of emotions. The
paradox of horror movies is that people are afraid of horror movies despite knowing that the movies
are fiction. Carroll attempts to use the illusion theory and the thought theory of emotions to explain
the paradox but neglects to mention the concept of the sublime which can be used to explain ... Show

Religious Tolerance
I am tolerant, you are permissive, I have reasonable scruples, and you are a conservative. (Author

Does this sound like the thoughts of most of us? Many people think that they have to understand and

practice their religion does not mean that you must believe the same as they do. In today s society, we
are faced daily with choices on whether or not to tolerate the practices and actions of people around

is no avoiding this; as humans we are emotional creatures, and we fear for ourselves and others. These
kind of moments can prove to be transformative in our characters. When I say this I mean that these
times can bring about some of our greatest qualities like strength, fortitude, and perseverance. When
you are the only person there to comfort someone who is looking at a life threatening illness; your first
reaction is to be scared and feel overwhelmed. You find yourself asking: Am I the right person for
this? Do I really have what it takes to be strong for this person? I found myself in this situation once,

Using the information gathered, we make brochures, posters and other marketing materials that
describe the fundraising, services, donation opportunities, and values of our organization. Then we
develop a social media marketing strategy. Social media such as Twitter and Facebook provide us with
ways to reach out to those interested in our organization in a low cost and effective way. We also have
our own radio show that has weekly discussions on the topic.
We find that the media works great when it comes to reaching those who are passionate about what we
do. Our professional website also attracts people .We use our web site as a great resource to display
useful information, news, monthly newsletters, events, create community, share alternatives to
donating money, and showcase the benefits of our organization. On a weekly basis our team members
research and maintain our prospects and our customer databases. We use them for special mailings,
follow up telephone calls, event invitations, alliance development, research profiling, and market
segmentation. We find that it is effective to advertise what we are receiving funds and donations to

Individual Vs Utilitarianism
It is believed that the utilitarian concept does not allow for an individual to invoke what they feel is
their God given right because utilitarianism is mainly concerned with achieving the greatest good for
the majority of people with little concern about the individual . Based on this theory, it would be in the
highest order to actually infringe on an individual s rights so as to benefit the greater population. This
theory is rarely ever concerned with justice, benevolence, egocentricity, or independence of a single
person if the outcome does not benefit the greater amount of people
First let us further examine what is defined as utilitarianism. Utilitarianism states that ever act should
comply with the principle of utility. It points out what we ought to do and what we shall do. It also,
pushes for the most pleasure, with the least pain, for the majority of people involved. Why do people
make certain choices? Utilitarianism states that we are now slaves to pain and pleasure and knowing
the balance between the two will assist in knowing what choices others will make. While with a
utilitarian mindset, making moral decisions based on God given rights are no longer as important as
decisions based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of self preservation, self protection, self acknowledgement, self fulfillment, self regard is
pretty taboo if one is to be aligned with this line of thinking. Dream fulfillment is not an ideology of
this theory. There is no place for super heroes or those who seek to do good for personal gain. The
individual always has to have others on his/her mind and consider how the outcome would affect the
whole. They do good without justification and/or qualification. Even if nothing is accomplished,
happiness was achieved. As mentioned above, utilitarianism is done to solely reach the maximum
goal. It is not focused on justice if oppressing the individual leads to a solution that benefits the most

Analysis Of The Poem The Painter By John Ashbery
A majority of John Asbury s poems are about the process in which the mind of a person interacts with
the external surroundings. John Asbury has often tried to describe how the human mind interacts with
the natural world. In his poem The Painter the poet has also incorporate the diverse aspect of nature
which has been seen through the minds of a painter. Through this poem, the poet has essentially tried
to reach out and understand the deeper aspects of human emotions such as life, love, loss, alienation,
creation, inspiration, reality and perspective. The fact that John Asbury is an ardent art critic, he is
deeply involved and associated with the process of artistic creation and appreciation which is more so
reflected through his poem The Painter (Frye 208).
In the poem The Painter , the poet John Ashbery describes the artistic creativity in direct conflict with
the demands of today s society. In this poem he expressed how an artist wants to paint the sea and
bring forth a relation between the sea and the buildings of the city. The painter places himself amidst
the nature and the urban concrete jungle and as he expected his work to gain creativity, his
expectations got diminished as he was unable to capture reality of life through his art. He was thus
attempting to create something impossible and remains unsuccessful (Ford 112).
Ashbery considered this desire to be very simple as he compared his ambition to children s prayer. His
contrasts to the painter s expectation

Bad Things About Cars Research Paper
Technology is always changing, some people would say it s a good thing. Their other people who like
having their life on a repeat ordinarily would think to change it s a bad thing. One thing that is always
changing is cars. From what I heard growing up cars are a need for people, nor more a want because
people need cars for transportation. Even in the book Business Driven Technology said that cars a
good. The only way to get rid of the car is if someone invents teleportation. When someone is looking
for a car they see how safe it is like as if the airbag or the brakes still work. There other people who
look for how fast the car goes nevertheless, how many miles do the car have. Another word for this is
sustaining technology. This means improving product like cars where people are eager to buy a fast
car. Many people like myself who are always driving would want to know how much does car safely

Human Testing On Human Beings
Since the beginning of time in the medical field, toxicology has always been a profound question.
What is toxic? And what not toxic. This question has pondered medical professionals for years. The
toxicity of anything varies greatly, what can and is toxic to one person may not be toxic to another,
and so on and so forth, this also includes as to what dosage of certain medicines and chemicals fall
into the toxic category as well. What one person can inquest safely might kill another person? So how
do we determine what is toxic, and how certain chemicals effect humans and animals? The answer is,
we must perform test on something that is similar to the human species. Animals having similar traits
and features in the body have often been the experimentation method of choice. By using animals in
testing has raised a lot of concern and controversy over the years, but so has testing on human beings.
One of the most horrifying examples of human testing was during World War II, the Nazi party in its
quest to create the ultimate human species, performed a lot of testing on the Jews that were in the
concentration camps with horrific results. But one good thing did come from this testing and that was
the general knowledge of what a person could endure resulting in the better treatment of any species
being tested for research purposes. The results from various chemical tests have been carried out for
the benefit in the risks for humans, animals and the environment they are

Mexican American War And The Mexican War
The Mexican American war better known as the Mexican war, was a conflict between The united
states of America and Mexico. from 1846 to 1848. It followed in the wake of the 1845 US annexation
of Texas, which Mexico considered part of its territory, despite the 1836 Texas revolution. After its
independence in 1821 and brief experiment with monarchy, Mexico became a republic in 1824,
characterized by considerable instability, so that when war broke out in 1846, Mexico was ill prepared
for this conflict. The war with the United States followed in the wake of decades of Indian raids in the
sparsely settled north of Mexico, which prompted the Mexican government to sponsor American
migration to the Mexican province of Texas to act as a buffer. Americans and some Mexicans revolted
against the Mexican government in the 1836 Texas Revolution, creating a republic not recognized by
Mexico, which still claimed it as its national territory. The 1845 expansion of US territory with its
annexation of Texas escalated the dispute between the United States and Mexico to open war. In 1844
James K. Polk, the newly elected president, made a proposition to the Mexican government to
purchase the disputed lands between the Nueces River and the Rio Grande. When that offer was
rejected, troops from the United States commanded by Major General Zachary Taylor were moved
into the disputed territory of Coahuila. These troops were then attacked by Mexican troops, killing 12
American troops and taking 52

The Celebration Of The Concert
I gotta tell you something, alright? It s a little motto to live by. It basically goes like this: There s going
to be times in your life when people say you can t do something, and there s going to be times in your
life when people say you can t live your dreams, and there s going to be times when people say you
can t sell out Madison Square Garden. This is what I tell them: NEVER SAY NEVER Justin Bieber....
That is exactly what popped into my head when Lupita calls me and I find out the Purpose tour tickets
were going on sale. We call Karla and start saying that we have to go to this concert. We start begging

Euloph Gideon
While heading into the Indian Territory, we traveled through the endless plains of Missouri for days
until we found a small lake hidden by closely dense trees in Westport. Near the opposite of the lake sat
a man peacefully unaware of our presence as he carefully sketched a deer drinking by the lake. It was
such a serene moment that neither Gideon nor I was willing to shoot the deer for dinner. After several
minutes, the man noticed and beckoned us to come over to his side of the lake by waving food into the
air. Usually, we would never approach an eccentric man like him, but our diminishing supply of food
persuaded us to move our wagon and horses towards him. With his warming smile, he made space for
us by lake and introduced himself as Thomas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reply, he laughed hysterically of my reasoning, and then joked that if I was only as inspired in art as
I was in writing, he would have gladly accepted me in his Hudson River school. Amused by my dream
to rival Cooper s talent in western adventure novels, he freely gave me a sketch of this lake as a
reminder of our meaningful conversation, whereas Gideon bought several sketches and paintings in
order to decorate his house back in Virginia. As a result, Cole contemplated whether if Gideon as an
aspired artist was crazier than me as an aspired writer. It was the meeting with Cole that motivated me
to begin my first chapter of my novel with a weary man contemplating about his bleak future by the
lake due to his life trapped into the fur trapping business. When I shared this chapter with Cole, he
emphasized, the most distinctive, and perhaps the most impressive, characteristic of American scenery
is its wildness, to remind me that wildness of the west would motivate me to complete my novel,
hence ending this journey. Once Gideon and I regained our strength, we parted ways with Cole and

Case Study Ards Essay example
Case Study Three
1. What is the definition of ARDS? Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) occurs when fluid
builds up in the tiny, elastic air sacs (alveoli) in your lungs. More fluid in your lungs means less
oxygen can reach your bloodstream. This deprives your organs of the oxygen they need to function.
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is also known as shock lung, wet lung, post perfusion
lung and a variety of other names related to specific causes.
What are the associated clinical indicators?
The first signs and symptoms of ARDS are feeling like you can t get enough air into your lungs, rapid
breathing, and a low blood oxygen level. Other signs and symptoms depend on the cause of the
ARDS. They may occur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pulmonary capillary blood flow is lowest in the apices where alveolar pressure is greater than
capillary pressure. So ventilation is greater than perfusion. Blood flow is greatest at the bases of the
lungs where the pressure in the vessels is greater than alveolar pressure so perfusion is greater than
ventilation. Blood flow and alveolar ventilation are never perfectly matched. Perfusion (Q) is usually
greater than ventilation (V). A normal V/Q ratio is 0.8. If the V/Q ratio is low this means there is not
enough ventilation to oxygenate the blood. If the V/Q ratio is high this means blood flow is less than
ventilation so ventilation is being wasted.
What is the cause of hypoxemia in ARDS and how is it treated?
Hypoxaemia can result when there is inequality in alveolar ventilation and pulmonary perfusion (V/Q
mismatch). V/Q mismatch is the most common cause of hypoxia in critically ill patients. It is caused
by intrapulmonary shunting of blood resulting from airspace filling or collapse. Findings include
dyspnea and tachypnea. Diagnosis is by ABGs and chest x ray. Treatment usually requires mechanical
ventilation.
What is the clinical significance of static compliance?
Lung compliance is a measurement of the relationship between changes in lung

The Art And Science Of Professional Nursing Practice
The Art and Science of Professional Nursing Practice Frequently, nurses are considered the foundation
of the healthcare industry and the stakes are high when certain qualities must be possessed when
working with patients and providing quality care. Nurses have a profound ability to apply strong skill
based knowledge with a caring and compassionate attitude that can improve patient outcomes. They
also play an important role that can positively or negatively affect the way patients and family
members view healthcare as a whole. Professional nursing practice is an art and science when both
elements are integrated together to form a unique way of practice, but what does that really mean? The
purpose of this paper is to define nursing as an art and science and explain how these two concepts
come together to form an extraordinary way to perform professional nursing practice that contributes
to the well being of the patient. Nursing as a Science Over the years there have been vast changes in
healthcare that require nurses to go above and beyond in their level of expertise in technology and
scientific knowledge (Palos, 2014). Nurses have to evolve with those changes, therefore they must
utilize educational tools and develop skills to stay current with the advancements that hospitals require
for practice (Palos, 2014). Palos (2014) also found that nurses have a responsibility to use their critical
thinking skills, make sound clinical judgments, and apply evidence based nursing

The Road Expressed Through Character Ideals Essay
The Road Expressed Through Character Ideals In today s world there has recently been an uprising
fixation towards literary works of fiction that depict a post apocalyptic setting. Some example of these
works would be the television series The Walking Dead, the movies World War Z and The Road.
However, even though the literary works use a post apocalyptic setting they illustrate several different
plots. For instance, The Road by Cormac McCarthy is a novel and a movie that seemingly takes place
in the United States after some cataclysmic disaster took place reducing the world to mostly fire and
ash. The story describes a man and his young son as they struggle on their journey south in attempt to
try and evade the oncoming cold that winter will surly bring. This book has been accredited with
several awards and many of McCarthy`s other writings have also been very well received. According
to an online article Cormac McCarthy was born on July 20, 1933 into a family of six children. He
joined the Air Force and attended the University of Tennessee where he meet his first wife and moved
to Chicago before his graduation.(Famousauthors.org) Despite struggles in his life McCarthy is still a
phenomenal author and does an amazing job at expressing themes and motifs through the characters in
his novels. The Road creates a deep multilevel understanding of the characters by demonstrating the
themes hope, survival, and integrity through the boy and the man so that we can comprehend the

Animal Farm Napoleon Language
Napoleon s use of language to constantly deceive the other animals is shown throughout the entirety
of the book. Napoleon and the other pigs are much more fluent and knowledgeable with their
vocabulary, allowing them to use emotive and descriptive language to influence the animal s thoughts.
Napoleons right hand man Squealer is adept at fooling the lower class of the farm and Napoleon uses
him to do gain more favour with the animals. Squealer through the use of sophisticated language
makes the other animals actually believe that Napoleon was the hero of the Battle of the Cowshed,
when in reality Napoleon ran away at the very start of the battle. Napoleon uses Squealer expertise in
language to rewrite history to fulfil his desire for power. You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are
doing this in a spirit of selfishness and privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples...Milk

and organization of this farm depend on us . Quotes such as this are used when the pigs are questioned
by the other animals on the farm. Napoleon and Squealer through the use of language is able to

is able to persuade his people with no regret or remorse is proof that his desire for power is the only

with themes based on Feminism and Magical Realism. This article deals with an essential aspect of
the human psyche, Individuation. A term coined by Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist and

involves a holistic process of one s physical and mental growth. This process is more of a conscious
progress. To attain this state, ones inner thought and psyche is drawn out from the personal and the

The ultimate symbol displaying national pride is the American flag. The American flag represents
freedom, for that reason American citizens worship it. The flag is present in countless places
throughout the country and are accompanied by the national anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance.
There are seldom events that do not begin with the playing of the national anthem or the reciting of the
Pledge of Allegiance. In the 1606 England, many people had the same ethic as Americans do, hard
work. Today in America, advertising seems to capitalize on this. Whether it is for a new product or a
presidential candidate, they try to appeal to a typical hard working American. While they may share
that sense of pride, it is ultimately for their own advantage. For example, if a speaker or writer is
telling people to vote for a certain candidate, they may try to relate to the audience s national pride by
saying it is their civic duty to vote. Shakespeare also had the idea of hard work imbedded in him, so he
presented his national pride similarly through his plays. He did this to try and earn support from the
king, because without that it would ve been hard for him to product his

Julian Informative Speech
We know so little. There are so few facts recorded, we don t even know her name but I can tell you we
know her impact and can feel her work stretching through decades and centuries to continue to inspire
and shape the lives of people today. This is Julian of Norwich.
Julian was born in 1342 in Norwich, England and spent most of her life as an anchorite, a recluse
living alone in an closed room attached to the parish church of St Julian of LeMans at Conisford in
Norwich. Though few biographic details are known about Julian, it is likely she came from a wealth
family as anchoresses had to prove they could support themselves through some form of income
before they could be enclosed. Julian s name could have been her baptism name or she may have
followed the custom of taking the name of the saint attached to the church of which she became an
anchorite.
Julian recognised her need for deeper love and knowledge of Christ and appealed to God, asking for
three things. Firstly she prayed for revelations so she could gain a greater understanding of Christ s
passion. Secondly she asked for a near death experience which would allow her to experience all that
a body and soul could including the last rites but survive. Allowing her to live a more consecrated life
being more mindful of God. Julian s final request was for three wounds ... Show more content on

When she is expected to die the Parish Priest administers the last rites not long after this Julian began
to receive the sixteen showings. Through these showings Julian saw Christ on the crucifix giving her
insight into Jesus suffering and love for us, she saw into the Heavens seeing Christ in his glory
allowing her to see the meaning and power of suffering. Julian also saw Mary adored and gracious as

Romeo And Juliet Sleeping Potion Essay
Briefly before drinking the sleeping potion, Juliet wishes for her mother and the Nurse to come back
because she seeks their counsel, which is inferred from the line I ll call them back again to comfort me
(IV. iii. 17). Her uneasiness is mimicked by the song Wake Me Up by Avicii. Juliet is hoping her
mother can offer her comfort, or ...wake me up when it s all over/ When I m wiser and I m older . At
this moment in the play, Juliet is unsure about the future, or, in other words, she can t tell where the
journey will end . All Juliet knows is where to start it, which is by drinking the friar s sleeping potion.
If Juliet had called her mother back, Juliet might tell her mother that All this time I was finding
myself/ And I didn t know ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The trouble in their relationship can be represented by the line You tell me that you need me/ Then
you go and cut me down, . Indeed, this is how Lady Capulet treats her daughter. Lady Capulet will call
for Juliet, needing her attention, and she will proceed to cut Juliet down, which she accomplishes
through various fashions, including by telling her the news of her marriage to Paris and refusing to
talk to her. Another way she cut Juliet down is by not truly seeming to care about her feelings. Later in
the play, as Lady Capulet thinks that Juliet is dead, she is immensely remorseful and seemingly sorry,
saying O me, O me! My child, my only life!/ Revive, look up, or I will die with thee! (IV. v. 19 20).
This resembles the line You tell me that you re sorry . Although Juliet is asleep, she doesn t care much
for what her mother thinks anymore, which can be concluded from the fact that she didn t inform her
mother of the plan or attempt to talk through their disagreements. If Juliet were awake, one would
imagine she would tell her mother That it s too late to apologize . Juliet has gone through with the friar
s plot, and she can t return to her mother now. The message of Apologize is, as the chorus states, That
it s too late to apologize , and in Juliet and Lady Capulet s relationship, it is exactly

Introduction
Lactococcus lactis is a Gram positive bacterium commonly used to produce buttermilk and cheese. In
most cases they are known to produce Lactic acid. Traditionally regarded as a GRAS microbe, and
with its ability to produce lactic acid, it is one of the most important organisms used in the dairy
industry, used extensively in the early stages of production of several kinds of cheeses(Siezen,
Bayjanov et al. 2010). A good understanding of the genetic and enzymatic information of the cycles
that drive the production of lactic acid in these microbes is essential for the dairy industry.
The purpose of this report is to discuss about Fructose 1,6 Bisphosphate Aldolase Class II in L. lactis.
However, studies on several other bacteria like E. coli, Streptococcus sp. and other Lactococcus sp.
will also be used as reference containing similar versions of this enzyme taking part in their cycles.

  • 2. Effects Of Dutch Colonization Of Indonesia Dutch colonization is one of the main influences on modern Indonesia. According to Dutch Colonization the Dutch controlled Indonesia for nearly 300 years which sprouted many nationalistic ideas (Dutch Par 2). Indonesia later became independent in 1945 with other countries such as the United States of America recognizing it as an independent nation. Dutch occupation directly affected the modern Indonesian political scene, the global spice trade and local Indonesian religion. Dutch colonialism has greatly influenced the Indonesian governmental system. Dutch occupation began in the 1600s where the Dutch established Indonesia as a Dutch colony forcefully using superior weapons and firepower. Dutch colonialism was extremely harsh with various ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dutch colonization took hold of one of the largest producers of spice in the world Indonesia and its entire supply of spice. The Dutch controlled the global spice market by controlling the amount of spice produced to increasing demand in Europe causing the price of spice to increase to make the maximum amount of profit effectively monopolizing it through force numerous trade routes were developed with neighbouring countries (Wright Par 4) . Eventually, as the Dutch lost control of Indonesia, the amount of spice was not regulated causing the price of spice to decrease as it would be more accessible and be sold in larger quantities. The Dutch had amazing business skills and took advantage of what they could in Indonesia and monopolized the spice trade. This caused them to gain great amounts of profit with no real competition. This, however, was lost as they lost control over Indonesia causing the supply of spice to increase and spices native to Indonesia to be grown elsewhere. The global market for spice then drastically changed with spice becoming more accessible removing the barrier of exclusivity causing spice to be less valuable. • 3. The Legend Of King Arthur And Le Morte DArthur Has a book or movie given enjoyment through a hard time? Thomas Malory and Terry Gilliam have opposing writing styles as a result of the context they wrote their texts in. Thomas Malory, author of Le Morte d Arthur, writes his book as a compilation of tales and Terry Gilliam writes his version as a script for a movie. While both Gilliam and Malory use an episodic narrative, Gilliam writes his movie as a parody to mock old England and other versions of the Legend of King Arthur, and Malory uses his book as a story that includes immense details about a legend. While Le Morte d Arthur and Monty Python and the Holy Grail both share a common plot, the works differ on intended purpose and tone. The audiences each author tries to appease changes each author s writing style; Thomas Malory is trying to appease a fifteenth century audience who is traumatized by numerous uprisings and despair due to a history of atrocious kings, while Terry Gilliam is trying to entertain a more modern audience that wants a humorous and satirical movie. The intended purpose of each of the authors, differ in that each are delivering their works to a situationally different audience. In the fifteenth century, when Le Morte d Arthur was written, people were just beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel after a history of tyrannical kings. Even so, one of the worst Kings of England ever was King Richard III who was reigning just as the book was written. Although King Richard was not the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are two main types of freshwater ecosystems, those that are eutrophic, and oligotrophic. Both share the same salinity, yet oligotrophic lakes contain more oxygen than fish. On the flipside, eutrophic ecosystems have more fish than oxygen, which has more cyanobacteria and require less oxygen. The ecosystems have similar food chains, yet they differ on oxygen resources, thus making species differ from eutrophic and oligotrophic ecosystems. The genre of horror films have been spooking audiences since the early 1900s with films such as The Abominable Snowman and Nosferatu. Although fans of these movies are scared, they continue to watch to the movies every decade despite their fears. This drive to see movies that induce fear but an overall avoidance to fear is known as a paradox of horror films. In 1990, Noel Carroll outlined the paradox of horror in his book entitled The Philosophy of Horror. Carroll discussed in his book at least three theories that could solve the paradox of horror but each are flawed. The two theories that are connected the most with experience and the knowledge of what a horror movie experience is the illusion theory and the thought theory of emotions but Carroll leaves out Edmund Burke s sublime in his discussion of the paradox of horror. This concept of Burke s sublime can be used without flaw to dissolve the paradox of horror films unlike the illusion theory or the thought theory of emotions. Individual Vs Utilitarianism It is believed that the utilitarian concept does not allow for an individual to invoke what they feel is their God given right because utilitarianism is mainly concerned with achieving the greatest good for the majority of people with little concern about the individual . This theory is rarely ever concerned with justice, benevolence, egocentricity, or independence of a single person if the outcome does not benefit the greater amount of people First let us further examine what is defined as utilitarianism. • 26. Analysis Of The Poem The Painter By John Ashbery A majority of John Asbury s poems are about the process in which the mind of a person interacts with the external surroundings. John Asbury has often tried to describe how the human mind interacts with the natural world. In his poem The Painter the poet has also incorporate the diverse aspect of nature which has been seen through the minds of a painter. Through this poem, the poet has essentially tried to reach out and understand the deeper aspects of human emotions such as life, love, loss, alienation, creation, inspiration, reality and perspective. The fact that John Asbury is an ardent art critic, he is deeply involved and associated with the process of artistic creation and appreciation which is more so reflected through his poem The Painter (Frye 208). In the poem The Painter , the poet John Ashbery describes the artistic creativity in direct conflict with the demands of today s society. In this poem he expressed how an artist wants to paint the sea and bring forth a relation between the sea and the buildings of the city. The painter places himself amidst the nature and the urban concrete jungle and as he expected his work to gain creativity, his expectations got diminished as he was unable to capture reality of life through his art. He was thus attempting to create something impossible and remains unsuccessful (Ford 112). Ashbery considered this desire to be very simple as he compared his ambition to children s prayer. The toxicity of anything varies greatly, what can and is toxic to one person may not be toxic to another, and so on and so forth, this also includes as to what dosage of certain medicines and chemicals fall into the toxic category as well. What one person can inquest safely might kill another person? So how do we determine what is toxic, and how certain chemicals effect humans and animals? The answer is, we must perform test on something that is similar to the human species. Animals having similar traits and features in the body have often been the experimentation method of choice. By using animals in testing has raised a lot of concern and controversy over the years, but so has testing on human beings. One of the most horrifying examples of human testing was during World War II, the Nazi party in its quest to create the ultimate human species, performed a lot of testing on the Jews that were in the concentration camps with horrific results. But one good thing did come from this testing and that was the general knowledge of what a person could endure resulting in the better treatment of any species being tested for research purposes. • 29. Mexican American War And The Mexican War The Mexican American war better known as the Mexican war, was a conflict between The united states of America and Mexico. from 1846 to 1848. It followed in the wake of the 1845 US annexation of Texas, which Mexico considered part of its territory, despite the 1836 Texas revolution. After its independence in 1821 and brief experiment with monarchy, Mexico became a republic in 1824, characterized by considerable instability, so that when war broke out in 1846, Mexico was ill prepared for this conflict. The war with the United States followed in the wake of decades of Indian raids in the sparsely settled north of Mexico, which prompted the Mexican government to sponsor American migration to the Mexican province of Texas to act as a buffer. Americans and some Mexicans revolted against the Mexican government in the 1836 Texas Revolution, creating a republic not recognized by Mexico, which still claimed it as its national territory. The 1845 expansion of US territory with its annexation of Texas escalated the dispute between the United States and Mexico to open war. In 1844 James K. Polk, the newly elected president, made a proposition to the Mexican government to purchase the disputed lands between the Nueces River and the Rio Grande. When that offer was rejected, troops from the United States commanded by Major General Zachary Taylor were moved into the disputed territory of Coahuila. • 32. Case Study Ards Essay example Case Study Three 1. What is the definition of ARDS? Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) occurs when fluid builds up in the tiny, elastic air sacs (alveoli) in your lungs. More fluid in your lungs means less oxygen can reach your bloodstream. This deprives your organs of the oxygen they need to function. Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is also known as shock lung, wet lung, post perfusion lung and a variety of other names related to specific causes. What are the associated clinical indicators? The first signs and symptoms of ARDS are feeling like you can t get enough air into your lungs, rapid breathing, and a low blood oxygen level. Other signs and symptoms depend on the cause of the ARDS. They may occur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pulmonary capillary blood flow is lowest in the apices where alveolar pressure is greater than capillary pressure. So ventilation is greater than perfusion. Blood flow is greatest at the bases of the lungs where the pressure in the vessels is greater than alveolar pressure so perfusion is greater than ventilation. Blood flow and alveolar ventilation are never perfectly matched. Perfusion (Q) is usually greater than ventilation (V). A normal V/Q ratio is 0.8. If the V/Q ratio is low this means there is not enough ventilation to oxygenate the blood. If the V/Q ratio is high this means blood flow is less than ventilation so ventilation is being wasted. What is the cause of hypoxemia in ARDS and how is it treated? Hypoxaemia can result when there is inequality in alveolar ventilation and pulmonary perfusion (V/Q mismatch). V/Q mismatch is the most common cause of hypoxia in critically ill patients. It is caused by intrapulmonary shunting of blood resulting from airspace filling or collapse. Findings include dyspnea and tachypnea. Diagnosis is by ABGs and chest x ray. Treatment usually requires mechanical ventilation. What is the clinical significance of static compliance?
