The Concept of Delusional Disorders Essay
Mood symptoms are common in persons with delusional disorder and often represent a proportionate
emotional response to perceived delusional experiences. However, given that mood disorders are
common in the general population, they may present as comorbid conditions, often predating
delusional disorder. Mood symptoms of mood disorders contrary to mood symptoms of delusional
disorder are prominent and meet criteria for a full mood episode (depressive, manic, or mixed).
Delusions associated with mood disorders usually develop after the onset of mood symptoms and
progress secondary to mood abnormalities. Mood symptoms of delusional disorder are generally mild
and delusions usually exist in the absence of mood abnormalities. Delusions of ... Show more content

Clinical observation led him to the hypothesis that specific combinations of symptoms in relation to
the course of psychiatric illnesses allow one to identify a particular mental disorder. Today, his
concept of endogenous psychosis is regarded as Kraepelins main achievement. He differentiated
between dementia praecox and manic depression as the two forms of psychosis. Kraepelin considered
dementia praecox as a biological illness caused by anatomical or toxic processes (Lehmann, 1997). He
observed 19 cases and worked on defining the concept of paranoia, which is reflected in several
editions of his famous textbook and most closely resembles the modern definition of delusional
disorder. Kraepelin viewed paranoia as an uncommon, chronic condition different from dementia
praecox by the presence of fixed, non bizarre delusions, lacking deterioration over time, preserved
thought process, and relatively slight involvement of effect and volition (Manschreck, 2000).
Kraepelin described that delusions of paranoia, contrary to the delusions of dementia praecox, are well
systemized, relatively consistent, and often related to real life events. He identified persecutory,
grandiose, jealous, erotomanic, and possibly hypochondriacal types of that disorder. He believed that
the illness derived from the deficit in the patients judgments caused by constitutional factors and

Good Faith Bargaining
ESSAY GOOD FAITH BARGAINING The objective underlying the Fair Work Act 2009 was to get
the balance right (Smart Company, 2010 ; Forsyth, 2005) between fairness and flexibility in Australian
workplaces while getting rid of the harsher aspects of Work Choices which preceded it. The Fair Work
Act sought to restore collective bargaining in the Australian workplace relations system, including
enhanced rights for union involvement and, most importantly, the good faith bargaining requirements.
Good faith bargaining is an important requirement placed on the parties by the Fair Work Act 2009.
The concept of good faith bargaining is not a novel concept . It has been defined as negotiations in
which two parties meet and confer at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The absence of any reference to face to face meetings in the Act, or to reasonable places , implies that
meetings via teleconference facilities (Heinsz, 2000) or other similar means would suffice, particularly
where employers are located in remote areas. Therefore, the obligation to attend and participate in
negotiations allows employees to feel a sense of trust between them and the management and for that
reason will presumably be able to raise and convey their individual concerns openly. It is also
perceived that good faith bargaining would also enable employees to negotiate more equitable and
flexible outcomes (Patterson, 20002) for themselves. Thus, management will be able to determine
what issues need to be addressed within the organisation and what needs to be done to resolve the
problem. Overall, attending and participating in meetings will provide a forum for employers and
employees to get together before engaging in the enterprise bargaining process (Anderson, 2010) to
consider carefully what they are seeking from the process and what measures they will employ to
determine whether the agreement will be successful. It also allows management and employees the
opportunity to establish consultative mechanisms (Anderson, 2010) to examine the most effective
ways of increasing

Melba Pattillo Beals, Cear Chavez, And Mother Jones
It s very hard to stand up for people s rights, but Melba Pattillo Beals, Cesar Chavez, and Mother
Jones are three individuals that did. Melba fought for equality while Chavez and Mother Jones worked
to improve working conditions. These three heroic individuals all enacted change in a positive way for
human rights.
Melba Pattillo Beals was a very brave individual who fought to end segregation. She, along with eight
other students integrated Central High School, which was an all white prestigious school. She was
mistreated by her peers, for example, Melba states that on the first day of school I was trying to escape
the hanging rope of a lynch mob, dodging lightened sticks of dynamite, and washing away burning
acid sprayed in my eyes (Beals 1). Melba went through many challenges in her days integrating, but
she continued to step up to the plate, showing how brave and determined she was. In addition, while
Melba was trying to use the restroom, flaming paper balls came piling down on her, and as she
screamed for help, she breathed it in and choked, finally she threw her textbooks at the attackers as
defense (Beals 164). This shows the fact that Melba has courage and is not afraid to fight back. In the
end it was all worth it, Melba ended up being able to attend San Francisco State University, where she
roomed with people of different skin colors (Beals 310). In conclusion, she came a long way and went
from being an innocent young girl to a well known, brave individual, who

The s Philosophies About The Increased Globalization Of...
1. Appiah s philosophies about the increased globalization of the world, or at least the increased access
to cultures which often did not have significant interaction, claim that it has the overall potential to be
a net positive. His theories have less to do with the actions of sovereign entity and more to do with the
behavior of individuals, but he does simultaneously critique what he believes to be unethical cultural
practices made by societies and so the actions of the leadership and cultural paradigm of the
Revolution will be what is being judged based on the framework of Appiah s philosophy.
a. Appiah s assertions have to do with something which he deems to be other than globalization:
cosmopolitanism. For Appiah, cosmopolitanism goes beyond mere globalization a term that once
referred to a marketing strategy, and then came to designate a macroeconomic thesis, and now can
seem to encompass everything and nothing (Appiah xiii) and even multiculturalism another shape
shifter, which so often designates the disease which it purports to cure (Appiah xiii) representing a
grudging coexistence and maintained separation between different cultures. Beyond these insufficient
terms and concepts, Appiah proposes cosmopolitanism which was coined by the Cynics of the 4th
century BC and means citizen of the universe (Appiah xiv). As cosmopolitanism is mainly an act
undertaken by individuals, a cosmopolitan is someone who places their membership to humanity over
the loyalty to

unjust trial when several officers were caught on video brutally beating Mr. Rodney King on the

The Shortage in the Supply of Clean Water Is a Looming...
The shortage in the supply of clean water is a looming crisis in some regions of the world. Discuss the
causes and consequences.
1. Introduction
Water shortage has been a worrisome problem facing the world. We mostly live in water rich countries
washing dishes, watering plants and taking a shower, it s hard to imagine or realize there will be
inadequate water supply for the world one day. Water is a finite resource such that the amount of fresh
water supply provided by the hydrological cycle will not increase. Water occupies 71% of the world s
surface and is an integral part of the global hydrologic cycle which includes like precipitation,
evaporation and soil moisture. Without this hydrologic cycle, even a human being cannot live ... Show

Therefore, pollution lowers the quality of water and reduces the amount of water available for use.
d. Poor water management
Although the supply of water in the world is limited, water shortage can still be avoided by better
water management. However, some responsible agency did not take proper actions to conserve water.
For example, water leakages are not properly prevented with regular maintenance of water containers
and water distribution systems. Also, the number of water tankers or any other water related facilities
are not adequate to store water for future use and the sewage treatment system is not well operated and
supervised to prevent water being contaminated by pollutants and water can be reused. Fines should
be imposed on anyone who wastes this precious source on other unnecessary areas as well as
industries which continuously emit toxic substances to pollute water in order to punish them for the
misuse of water and educate them to conserve water. Dams or other constructions should also be built
to reduce flooding. After all, poor water management will speed up the occurrence of water shortage
and become a threat of our life to us.
e. Increasing water consumption
The ever growing water consumption of people leads to water shortage by wasting water in other
needless areas. In our

Character Analysis Of Franny And Zooey
In this novel about identity, we are reminded of how often we see ego, wishes, and desires. The
specific mundane details of objects, such as the medicine cabinet, Franny s purse, and other objects,
bring out characterization of both Franny and Zooey. The objects can signify how disorderly and
imperfect they both are, but are known to be these perfect people because they re really good at what
they do. Also, for how famous they are in their acting careers. Salinger uses objects as a metaphor for
an empty devoted life, dedicated to a spiritual meaning. When Lane meets up with Franny, he says that
he is the only one on the platform that really knew Franny s coat (7,Salinger). The coat reminded him

The Similarities Between Rats And Mice
Though, very similar in appearance, mice are very different from rats. Mice are equivalent to sparrows
in size, generally 12 to 20 cm long. They have a thin tail and a triangular muzzle with long whiskers.
Mice weigh between 12 and 30 gms in general and are found in different species such as house mice,
spiny mice, deer mice, and dormice. You can see mice in brown, grey or white color. With thin, hairy
tails, mice can be found all over the world.
Most of the times, mice tend to live not more than one year. However, under special circumstances
such as in detention, they can survive for as long as six years.
Rat is a medium sized to large rodent that has a long, thin tail. Usually, many different rodent species
are referred to as rats, be it cotton rats, or black rats, or wood rats, or kangaroo rats, or pack rats. In
fact, a lot of other rat species are generally called rats only, even though they may have no relation to
one another. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They may be brown, black, or white in color. As compared to mice, rats may turn out to be far longer
up to 40 cm. Also, they are heavier in weight than their mice counterparts.

the two. In fact, their nature is quite similar as well, which fuels this perplexity among people. It is
actually tough to distinguish between the two types of rodents that probably share the same ancestor.

Similarities And Differences Between Aztecs And Mayans
The Incas , Aztecs, and mayans were both similar and different in their own unique ways and in
different beliefs and practises of everyday life. The first main topic we are going to be discussing is
the topic of religion in every culture and the ways their beliefs of gods change. Then we will discuss
further information about these groups and how they lived , functioned and ruled their lives. To start it
off the Incan religion which involved human sacrifice which during the time period a culture were
relatively common, they had also attributed sacredness to a rock formation. The incan religion also
required ancestor worship which is a ritual practice that was started on the belief that deceased family
members have a continued existence, and also that the dead ancestors take an interest in the problems
of the world, and have the power and the ability to influence the fortune of the living. At its start, Incan
religious beliefs connected with nature. The incan people also believed that the Inca rulers were
descendants of the sun god, Inti. Next up is the Mayan religion which was characterized by the
worship of nature gods which include but are not limited to the gods of sun, rain and corn . The

The trial of Galileo is an important event in the history of science. We now know, the Roman Catholic
church now recognizes, that Galileo s view was correct. What were the arguments on both sides of the
issue as it was unfolding? Search the web for documents that chronicle the trial and discuss briefly the
case for and against Galileo in the context of the times in which the trial occurred. Be sure to

Even though Galileos beliefs were held in practicing Catholicsim, his writings were showing evidence
for Copernican heliocentrism. The Catholic Church, however, disapproved of heliocentricity, feeling
that it was contrary to the statements in the Bible: if God created human beings as His supreme
creation, He would place man at the center of His cosmos. (At that time the more literal Biblical
interpretation was prevalent with the church fathers, especially among the Dominican Order,
facilitators of the Inquisition)2
However, real power layed with the Church, and Galileo s arguments were most fiercely fought on the
religious level. Cardinal Robert Bellarmine insisted that Galileo furnish more adequate proof of his
new theories before he would be allowed to teach them as true or even as probably true. Until the
proof was put together, the ideas should only be taught as hypothesis. In 1623 Pope Gregory XV died,
and Galileo s close friend Maffeo Barberini became Pope Urban VIII. The new Pope gave Galileo
vague permission to ignore the ban and write a book about his opinions, so long as he did not openly
support his theory. Galileo consented, and set to work writing his masterpiece, Dialogue Concerning
the Two Chief World Systems. Galileo gave more emphasis to mathematical arguments rather than to
experimental or physical arguments in

Coral Reef Impact
According to NOAA a coral reef is a ridge of rock in the sea formed by the growth and deposit of
coral. Stony coral polyps secrete a calcium carbonate skeleton that over many years builds up to create
the foundation which all coral lives on. These limestone remains are the building blocks for coral
colonies supporting millions of polyps which can weigh several tons. Having said that, coral reefs
grow very slowly about 0.5cm 2cm per year, meaning that all damage and death coral colonies
experience will take a long time to repair. (NOAA 2)
Humans tendency to live near the ocean can have substantial negative consequences on the reef. Water
quality decreases due to sewage leakage, agricultural run off and other types of groundwater pollution.

Analysis Of Amazon s Amazon Essay
Amazon has outperformed every other online retailer for the past few years. There is a simple
explanation for their success. Their main strength and why consumers choose Amazon is because they
provide an excellent customer experience. They call it Customer Obsession . If a product on Amazon
is sold by or fulfilled by Amazon, the returning process is extremely simple. In my own experience
with returning products to Amazon, no matter the case, they will pay the shipping and give the
customer a full refund or a replacement for the product. This provides customers with a worry free
experience. There is absolutely no hassle if a product is defective or if the customer simply finds it

The Cask Of Amontillado Short Story Analysis
Brissa Martinez
ENGL 1302 001
Short story analysis
September 12, 2016
The Cask Casket Poe s use of verbal and dramatic irony in The Cask of Amontillado foreshadows the
both the crime and the death of the characters in the story. Even before the story begins the use of
irony is seen. In the title The Cask of Amontillado the word cask has a similar phonetic to the word
casket, which is synonymous to the word coffin which leads one to believe that there will be a death in
the story. One of the most ironic aspects of the story is the name that Poe gives the victim Fortunato.
The irony sets in that he is very unfortunate to be fooled into such an obvious trap leading to his death,
even with the name he was given and set intelligence he was supposed to have, but is blurred by the
effects of alcohol.
Another use of irony and foreshadowing is that the death was planned during a carnival. A carnival is
usually a time of celebration, in this case it was the carnival before Lent, allowing themselves to
indulge in pagan activities before the self denying 40 days celebrated by certain religions. It is ironic
that this a religious filled activity filled with drunks who have no perception of reality or self
awareness. At the time Fortunato ran into Montresor, Fortunato was involved with the excess of
alcohol which made him become easily fooled and unaware of the reality of his situation exposing
himself to Montresor almost effortlessly. When they are met Montresor is masked, he seems to be
doing in what is in the best interest for Fortunato, wanting to show him the fine wine, disguising his
real intentions under the mask, and Fortunato, of course, was dressed as a jester. The irony stands in
that Fortunato is more willing to follow Montresor once he removes his mask, once he shows his face
and is smiling and leading him down the catacombs. This is the irony that Montresor is a two faced
character. Behind the mask and his words, he hides his true intentions of revenge and yet when he
takes the mask off he is still deceiving Fortunato, even though one would think that once one is
unmasked their true self reveals. Fortunato on the other hand is portraying himself as a fool in the
outfit he is wearing already. It is

Emmett Till Reflection
1. The whole story and trial of Emmett Till was probably one of the most saddest stories I have heard
about. What surprised me most is the reason why they killed Emmett. This just showed how much
blacks were looked down upon. Nowadays, women get whistled at all the time by all different types of
men. This is just a rude gesture to whistle at a women, however we wouldn t brutally murder them.
What also surprised me was how they killed him. The murderers did not have to savagely kill him.
This changed my view on history and actually opened my eyes. I think we need to be better educated
on the subject that everybody tries to ignore.
2. During the trial, businesses put out jars to collect money for the defense of the two murderers. This
shows that everyone was on the murderers side. The community views the white race as the superior
race, and that is why the murderers were not guilty. Society then, was not a time that we should be
proud of. Those murderers should have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If I could interview those children now when they are around 60, I would ask why did they do that?
Pretending to shoot someone and laugh, what did that symbolize and what did that mean to them? I

was the year 2015, would they still do that as kids? I would expect them to be surprised about the first
question. As children, we do not understand what we are doing, but we should know right from wrong
and laughing at someone, pretending to kill them is unacceptable. I would expect them to answer what
it meant to do that and I think they would explain that they were only kids and that it was a different
time and society in 1955. I would expect them to answer how they felt about race growing with
obviously saying that the colored people were looked down on. If they were to do that now in 2015,
they probably would not do that in the first place, it is a completely different time period and everyone

Analyze The Relationship Between 1890-1920 Immigration And...
The relationship between immigration, urbanization, and industrialization became dominantly
significant by the launch of the Progressive Era between the years 1890 and 1920. Immigration
increased at a staggering rate in which millions of immigrants from Western Europe, Southern Europe,
and Eastern Asia sough economic opportunities. The United States, in the era, experienced large
portions of its lands altered into massive cities with expanding industrial infrastructures. Despite these
factors having greatly transformed American life, the nation s inhabitants have only begun to realize
the consequences for such an inevitable step of progress. Immigration had always been viewed as
either a problem or a blessing on America ever since the first ... Show more content on

However, this was accounted by many of the cities in the New England and Middle states, but with the
connection of the Pacific and Atlantic Coasts by railroads, urbanization increased extensively
throughout western United States. In addition, the Homestead Act in 1862 influenced many Americans
to settle out in the West in which as a result allowed possibility for Western urbanization. New
innovations, such as the Bessemer Process and the assembly line, provided new techniques of
transportation, and stronger and larger infrastructures that dramatically transformed older cities into
very massive and much more complex urbanized areas. Ironic to immigration, very poor Africans and
even Whites that were already living in the United States fled to the north to seek job opportunities
and to escape discrimination due to enhanced laws caused by the Plessy v. Ferguson Supreme Court
case in 1896. The large scale wave of migrants, also called the Great Migration , intensively increased
the urban population thus contributed to overcrowding and unsanitary living conditions. Not only did
the population in cities increase, but the businesses and industries that have been established in those
certain cities started to quickly expand across the nation, in which eventually gave rise to

Essay on Remember The Titans
Remember The Titans Essay In the movie Remember the Titans by Boaz Yakin the character Herman
Boone, played by Denzel Washington , is faced by a difficult challenge that is significantly important
to the movie. Boone in a sense faces a challenge of acceptance in which, by the end of the movie, he
has experienced in two noticeable ways. Boone faces the challenge of being accepted by the
community, revealing to us that he wants the community working together rather than judging and
persecuting one another. Additionally Boone fights for the acceptance and respect of his team, The

There are avid examples of the work he does with the football team to illustrate these principal ideas.
When the members of the football team all prepared to leave for camp, they boarded the two busses
according to their color and clearly did not want have anything to do with each other. Coach Boone
outraged by a comment from Gerry Bertier calls all the players to the front of the busses. He orders
them to pair up according to their positions on the football field, accomplishing team unity and
overcoming the first obstacle in getting the boys to work together. Also of interest are the responses of
the player s parents when they return from camp. They are surprised to see how Coach Boone has
changed them. The parents are still prejudiced however their children have changed once again
illustrating that Coach Boone, although he had not yet been accepted by the community he managed to
get the boys to work together. He had overcome his challenge. Boone fights for the acceptance,
respect and unity of his team proving that school integration, and the black and white players can
work together. By the end of the movie there are bonds formed between Bonne and both the black and
white player of The Titans. These bonds are important as we as the audience understand that Boone
has gained the acceptance and respect of Coach Yoasts team. In the first instance before the camp

The Trial and Death of Socrates Essay
The portrayal of Socrates, through the book the trial and death of Socrates is one that has created a
fairly controversial character in Western history. In many ways, Socrates changed the idea of common
philosophy in ancient Greece; he transformed their view on philosophy from a study of why the way
things are, into a consideration man. Specifically, he analyzed the virtue and health of the human soul.
Along side commending Socrates for his strong beliefs, and having the courage to stand by those
convictions, Socrates can be commended for many other desirable characteristics. Some of those can
include being the first martyr to die for his philosophical beliefs and having the courage to challenge
indoctrinated cultural norms is part of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The apology is an account of the speech that Socrates makes during his trial. In Socrates trial, he is
being accused of not recognizing the same gods that the others in Athens recognize (specifically that
those in authority). Instead, Socrates is charged with inventing new gods, and in doing so is corrupting
the youth of Athens to whom, Socrates frequently preaches to about his theology. Socrates speech,
however, is not an apology, as the name may suggest but rather an explanation of his beliefs. During
his trial speech, Socrates makes frequent reference to his beliefs explaining that his behavior stems
from a prophecy by the oracle at Delphi, which claims that he was the wisest of all men. Although
Socrates is honest and direct about these beliefs, this did not sit well with many of the trial members
who were evaluating him. Despite the fact that Socrates made frequent references to the fact that it is
destined for him to be the wisest of all men, he also recognizes that he does in fact lack in knowledge
when it comes to world affairs. To which, Socrates states only adds to his wisdom as he is aware of the
fact that he does not know everything and that realization alone makes him wiser than most other men.
In his explanation of his behavior, Socrates also adds that part of his duty as a wise man, is to make
sure that he questions the behavior of other wise men to make sure that those men are also aware

Choice In A White Heron
Choice in Naturalist and Realist Works Part of human nature is believing that an individual has choice
in what happens in his or her life. A literary style emerging after Romanticism, Realism, and a sub
genre of this style, Regionalism both argued that free will is existent among humans, even if this free
will is limited. A literary style that was influenced by Darwinism, Naturalism, posited that choice is an
illusion and an individual has no say in what happens in his or her life. Both of these styles offered an
interesting view of choice and how individuals are influenced to make their choices.
Realism is an American literary style that emerged after the Civil War. Some common characteristics
of realism are a focus on common people and realistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The creoles are a big part of who we are today. The colonial term Creole means a person of mixed
European and black descent. They started things like language, food, religion, and music that we still

customs. Creoles are a self identified group of various people of French, Spanish, and Portuguese
descendants who live in the coastal area of Louisiana mainly New Orleans. (galegroup.com Creoles )
The French and Spanish in New Orleans started calling themselves Creoles after the Louisiana
Purchase when the English started moving in. The Creoles were a different color and separated from
all of the other people. In 1724 they were put under Code Noir also known as the Black Code.
According to the Code Noir, they could own slaves, own real estate, and be reorganized in court. But
they were not were not allowed to marry white people and they were also not allowed to vote. On all
legal documents, they were required to put f.m.c or f.w.c which means free man of color and free
woman of color. Creoles are different from Cajuns. Most Cajuns are white and trace their ancestries to
French exiles from Canada. Cajuns included people from all over the world and Creoles may have

one of the most influential theologian in Christianity history. His theory on natural law started to first

pertaining to reason. (Aquinas, p.3) This was a key point that was a development from what St.
Aquinas had understood from Aristotle that not mattering what the issues were there had to be law that
had to refer to reason, as characteristic human function. Also, there are some essential to a law that St.
Aquinas recognized which are an ordinance of reason, directed to the common good, made by one

The Movie Running Scared By Paul Walker
The movie Running Scared (2006) with Paul Walker is full of ethical dilemmas from the start. Low
level thug Joey Gazelle (Paul Walker) was supposed to dispose of dirty guns that were used to kill two
police officers. Instead, he hid them in his basement to be found by Oleg, Joey s son s best friend and
neighbor. Oleg s stepfather was an abuser who came from the Russian mob. He abused his wife and
Oleg on a daily basis so Oleg stole the gun to shoot his stepfather in order to save his mom and
himself and he ran away after the incident. Joey needed to get the gun back in order to save his life
since he was supposed to dispose of it since it was a wanted weapon. The police did not know what
sort of weapon they were looking for.
Once the men higher up in the Mafia than Joey got news that there was a shooting and the weapon
might have been theirs, the heat was on. Joey spent all night trying to find Oleg which sent them both
through an adventurous, scary trip.
Ethics play a major role in this movie. The first ethical dilemma that the viewers are faced with is the
fact that Oleg s step father is abusive. He has no respect for Mila, Oleg s mom. He beats her and
starves Oleg. Oleg is seen as the growing boy in the house, not yet the man, but he wants to care for
his mother and protect her. This poses a problem: he wants to save his mother but in order to do that
he must eliminate his dad. Though his intentions are good his actions are illegal. He also stole the gun,

Whatever the case, women were allowed to be choosier in who they married, causing a lull in the
divorce rate. Maybe women were realizing that they did not need marriage to feel fulfilled. Or maybe
for the lucky ones, they really could have it all; maintain corporate executive status...and find and

rates are still considerably high. Current divorce rates state that almost one out of two marriages end
in divorce. This number is without considering that half of all adults do not get divorced. In fact, a
large number of people never marry or many marry multiple times. (Berger 2009) This brings up a
great point as to why divorce rates are so high. We all know the tragic stories of those who have
married multiple times on their desperate hunt to find happiness and true love. It evokes the question;
while women and men can be wildly successful, why are they always looking for the fairytale? Why

The Crucible; Belonging and Identity. Pan s Labyrinth and...
The Crucible Discussion Notes. One s belonging will always be entrenched in the belonging
established by another group; regardless of whether or not you wish to be a part of such a group. That
is to say, even if it is your aim to find your sense of belonging totally outside of another group, the
course of action required to achieve this belonging through not belonging will be influenced by the
sense of belonging established by the group; in your wish to contrast that belonging. A less convoluted
illustration of this concept is embodied in The Crucible s John Proctor; who we all know as the play s
non conformist character. Proctor s identity (identity and belonging being intrinsically linked) is

Thus, whilst Ofelia may be an individual, there is no escaping the fact that her individualism is
entrenched in (though diametrically opposed to) the belonging established by the group she wishes to
rebel against. Consequences, however, need not be always negative. Angela Carter s short story The
Company of Wolves explores belonging and consequences of belonging through the reinterpretation
of the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale. In Carter s version, the Red Riding Hood character has
agency unparalleled in any other telling of the tale. In the climax and resolution of the short story, the
text is obviously heavily influenced by second wave feminism (the text was written in 1979, over a

The girl burst out laughing; she knew she was nobody s meat. She laughed at him full in the face; she
ripped off his shirt for him and flung it into the fire, in the fiery wake of her own discarded clothing.
(pg. 5, para. 6) The whole short story is laced with allusions to coming of age and subtle sexual
imagery; in this excerpt Carter uses the double entendre of the word meat to create an image of
violence (becoming the wolf s meat suggests brutal disembowelment) and sexual objectification (the
wolf sees the girl as simply a virgin sex object; a piece of meat for his consumption), to which the girl
not only objects, but

The Effects Of Lust And Love
Lust and love are total opposites. Lust is a primary ingredient of sex addiction. I find out that people
are often confused about what lust is. Lust is harmful to the body, mind and spirit, and it can easily be
mistaken for love, as we can see in the book of 2Samuel 13:1 4, with Amnon, son of King David,
erroneously getting involved with his own sister, Tamar. Lust has the opposite effect of love. Love is
spiritual while lust is Carnal; and the Holy Bible says that God is love.
What really is lust and how do I differentiate lust from love? When Amnon said I am in love with my
sister Tamar was the bible telling us the obvious or what Amnon assume he had for her? We need to
understand this very well because very many of us have gone into relationship, thinking we are
driving by love when in actual lust is driving us. The bible simply told us what Amnon thought he had

New Moon Reflection
New Moon obviously lacks a base in a real story. It has vampires, werewolves, and all that nonsense
however that gives no decent excuse for the of believable scenes in this movie. Without believability,
a movies quality can remarkably lower. During the film, after Bella and her Friend Jacob fought,
Jacob shows up at Bella s house. Showing up shirtless, Jacob, superhuman jumps and climbs back in
forth from a tree and the side of her home into her bedroom window on the second floor. While this
behavior does not seem abnormal for someone of his werewolf type, Bella at this point in the movie
does not know his inner wolf. In fact, none of this odd behavior seems even to phase Bella. In
addition, Jacob, who has just broken her heart, comes in and starts speaking in riddles to Bella that
would involve her having to exactly remember just an ordinary conversation between the two that has
that takes place weeks prior. Somehow she magically remembers this conversation. None of the events
that happen seem even remotely believable. In particular, the lack of negative emotions Bella
expresses upon her face plays an influential role in the films utter lack of believability. Even though
Jacob, a friend guilty of lying to Bella, causes her emotional pain, Bella still finds herself listening
kindly to Jacob without hesitation. This highly unbelievable situation will most likely never happen in
real life. In addition, the scene exposes how Bella s willingness to give her current beliefs and
emotions all to have a moderately decent conversation with a boy she loves, in a friend way, further
demonstrating the central message that the story produces. This further exhibits the story s willingness
to push the message that love trumps anything and everything for love. Unfortunately, this does not
only happen once. A few scenes later, Bella learns that werewolves do in fact exist and her best friend,
Jacob, has the werewolf in him. After learning this new information, Bella goes to the family home to
meet the other wolves and the pack leaders, wife. In the movie, the wolves make it clear that their
identity as werewolves must remain a secret. However, Jacob indirectly breaks this rule and shares it
with Bella. At this home, the wife

Jude the Obscure is indeed a lesson in cruelty and despair; the inevitable by products of Social
Darwinism. The main characters of the book are controlled by fate s compelling arm of extraordinary
muscular power (1), weakly resisting the influence of their own sexuality, and of society and nature
around them.
Jude s world is one in which only the fittest survive, and he is clearly not equipped to number amongst
the fittest. In keeping with the strong Darwinian undercurrents that run through the book, a kind of
natural selection ensures that Jude s offspring do not survive to procreate either. Their death by murder

Although the Widow Edlin s words refer to Jude s physical status, Hardy is also using them to
comment on Jude as a societal and intellectual being. On that level too, he was clearly not fit enough
to emerge triumphantly from the struggles of Darwinian society.
If Hardy s message is that only the fittest can escape nature and society s cruelties, then one must ask,
which of the characters in the novel is most successful in the competitive atmosphere? Phillotson
certainly achieves some measure of professional success as a schoolmaster, but like Jude, he too was
unable to break into the echelons of university academia. Furthermore, despite marrying Sue, his
union with her was less than successful. One gets the sense that in his one sided love for Sue,
Phillotson was swept along powerlessly by the tides of his own sexuality just as Jude was. Rather than

Low Birth Weight Research Essay
The term low birth weight is used in describing infants weighing less than 5 lbs 8 ounces (2500g)
whereas the average weight is 8 lbs (Stanford, 2015). An infant with a low birth weight has a
significantly higher chance of neonatal and perinatal mortality (Maheswari Behera, 2014). Babies who
do persevere and survive are documented of having inadequate neurosensory, cognitive, behavioral
development and limited school performance (Guyatt Snow, 2004). Shiono and Behrman (1995) state
that infants with low birth weight consist of 7% of live births, however, 35% of the cost of health care
goes towards caring for low birth weight infants. Studies show that African American infants are twice
more than Caucasian infants to have a low birth weight. To bring a life into this world takes more than
conception; sacrifices need to be made, nurturing, and providing a safe home for the child, but many
minorities struggle to fulfill these needs. Health and health care are imperative when it comes to being
an expecting mother; therefore, it is important that to address what influences the birth weight of
African American infants in my research paper. I hope to address how factors such as racial
discrimination within the American health care system, prenatal care, stress, and the age of the mother
contributes to the low birth weight (LBW) disparities between African American infants and
Caucasian infants.

Similarities And Differences Of Snow White Story
Snow White is a fairytale that never gets old. Countless young children know the tale by heart: A
young, beautiful girl tries to live a happy life while her mother tries to kill her due to Snow White
being prettier than her. Snow White, though, has a much more profound, unexploited history. There
are many versions of this story that not a lot of people read. Two texts that were particularly
fascinating were Gold Tree and Silver Tree as well as Nourie Hadig. In Gold Tree and Silver Tree,
Silver Tree becomes jealous with Gold Tree s beauty and tries to kill her newlywed daughter, but Gold
Tree made a new friend, and she helped take care of Silver Tree. In Nourie Hadig, Nourie is left in the
forest by her father because her mother wants to kill her. There, she takes care of a prince all the while
her mother is trying to find her. Both these stories have amazing similarities and striking differences,
but the similarities significantly outweigh the differences. The stories are astonishingly similar many
ways, but their characters are the most standout thing about these stories. While these figures have
their differences, the similarities are much more eye catching. These characters are similar because
their personalities follow a similar rhythm throughout the stories and their actions also stay the same.
These stories characters represent the reason why these stories commonly have been given the title of
being the origins of Snow White. Their protagonists, Nourie Hadig

Mahatma Gandhi As A Champion Of Rhetoric
After carefully reviewing all the candidates, I finally chose who I believe could be the next champion
of rhetoric. Before Barack Obama and Martin Luther King Jr there was another champion that was not
mentioned in the book. That champion is Mahatma Gandhi. I am interested in Mahatma Gandhi
because of his principles and the way he led his people. Anyone can just sit through it all and do
nothing. There are also people that think that violence and fear will be the solution of the problem, but
Gandhi made a difference by using his words. Everybody knows Gandhi because he used those non
violent acts, like fasting to protest. For example, when he was thrown in jail, he fasted and eventually
they let him out. The reason why they let him out was because they didn t want him to die. If he died,
the British knew that would mean trouble for them. After the British raised the tax on salt, Gandhi and
others decided to protest against them. As a result, Gandhi led the people to the ocean so they can
make their own salt. As he led them he was fully aware of the risks. As I stated before, people were
not only moved by his actions but also his words. After he determined who was his audience, then he
was able to compose a speech that would eventually sway them. Usually, the main purpose of his
speeches was to persuade his people into taking action for a better quality of life and even sometimes
to inform his people about some of the things that were going on. One of those examples is The

Sexual Abuse In Slavery
Slavery has numerous of components that deeply help open up the very meaning of race. However,
many of these topics usually do not reveal a side of slavery that happens on a regular basis and that is
sexual abuse. People seem to avoid sexual abuse because it is challenging to provided evidences that
the abuse is not consensual. However, this topic strongly impacts the way slaves life is shape daily.
Therefore, sexual abuse will help deepen our understanding of the institution of slavery and its effect
on our society as a whole by revealing that slaves must faces constant superiority and jealousy from
their masters in order to survive. In Order for masters to feel superiority over their slaves, they must
felt the need to control every aspect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For years, many masters who sexually abuse their slave also impregnate them which causes offsprings
to be mix race. However it is clear that these mixed race offspring must sacrifice their white privileges
in order to survive in this institution of slavery. Even with white genes in them, they are seen as
inferior and so their white privileges are taken away such as in the story of incidents in the Life of a
slave girl the main characters parents were a light shade of brownish yellow, and were termed
mulattoes. They lived together in a comfortable home; and, though we were all slaves, I was fondly
shielded that I never dreamed I was a piece of merchandise. It is bizarre that despite the parents being
mulattoes which is a term for mix race, there black genes over power there white ones and so they
must face the hardship of slavery. Also, even though the girl and her family seems to be more
privilege than other slaves, they still follow the same guidelines and are label as merchandise instead
of a human being. Which brings up the issue of many mulattoes during the slavery time period, were
also sexually harassed and abused by their masters or sometimes known as their own father. Incest
was a very common practices during this slavery time period and the master usually would not have
any parental emotion towards his own child and often time, After having a child by his daughter, [the]
mother and child will be sold. The white master see his mulatto offspring as property too, thus not
really his offspring. Which in his mind, makes it alright to rape his own children since there not a
human being. Overall, whether one is fully black or only half black, to society they will never be as
superior as whites and so in order for anyone with any blackness in them, they must learn to survive

Portrait of a Lady
First written in the 1880s and extensively revised in 1908, The Portrait of a Lady is often considered
to be James s greatest achievement. In it, he explored many of his most characteristic themes,
including the conflict between American individualism and European social custom and the situation
of Americans in Europe. James proclaimed that The only reason for the existence of a novel is that it
does attempt to represent reality. Plot was for him but the extension of character. The novel must show
rather than tell he was interested in why people did as they did, rather than simply in what they did;
motive was more important than deed. The observer of the dinner table and the drawing room, the
country house and the salon, the library ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the narrative technique did not allow for it. So in the end The portrait of the Lady is finally not a
modernist novel. There is no such a thing yet as the autonomy of the character; truly an exploration of
a character s psychological frame or mind, options. In a way Isabel remains emplotted by James. Like
most of James s fiction of the 1870s, and the majority of his writing for the rest of his career, Portrait
focuses on a group of expatriate Americans in England and Europe. Leisured, cultured, but just a bit
bored, Daniel Touchett and his son Ralph are idly passing their time at Daniel s country estate,
Gardencourt, but find themselves reenergized when Daniel s all but estranged wife, Lydia, brings with
her to England her niece, a beautiful and enthusiastic orphan named Isabel Archer. Isabel is everything
these men are not: lively, enthusiastic, and alert, she is a less flirtatious, more thoughtful version of
Daisy Miller. But this American Girl, too, has the resistance to convention that both marks the type
and makes its fate so problematic; when her Aunt Lydia reproaches her for staying up late to talk to
Ralph and his friend, Lord Warburton, Isabel thanks her for informing her of the social prohibition but
claims that she wants this knowledge only so as to choose whether to follow it. Despite, or perhaps
because of, this very American insistence on freedom of choice, Isabel attracts one suitor after
another: first Lord Warburton; then

The Sociology Of Leopard Man Analysis
One of the many joys of life is being able to choose your own path. The decision of being a conformist
or a nonconformist lies all in the palm of your hand. In his article, The Sociology of Leopard Man ,
Logan Feys states, To be human is to be an individual human, with individual tastes, talents, values,
and aspirations that are distinct from those of others. Living in society, we are under constant pressure
to surrender our individuality to the will of the majority, the school, the workplace, the family, etc.
Everyone is their own unique person, with a different personality than the next, and at the end of the
day it is your personal option to display or hide your own individuality when around others. Overall,
Feys claims that society holds a heavy cloud over everyone s head that pressures them to submit their
own personality, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Feys, Society looks down upon freakish and extraordinary individuals alike and views
them with suspicion. Ordinary people fear what they don t understand (p 4) . No matter what you do
or say, society will always have its own judgement, and looking for its approval won t help in the long
run. If you are content with yourself and embrace who you are as an individual, someone will always
accept and love you for who you are. All things considered, I have found myself completely agreeing
with Logan Feys and his views on individuality and the statement of breaking free of society s
shackles in order to be who you are freely. In the long run, doing so will provide you the opportunity
to be genuinely happy, embrace your individuality, and lastly think for yourself. It is important to learn
to take advantage of the choices and opportunities that life has handed you; to learn to control your
own life and not let society do it for

The Heroes Of The Trojan War
There are many hero stories in Greek mythology. Many of these can be interpreted as metaphors when
making comparisons to the lives and encounters people today experience. Many Greek myths
influenced important pieces of historic literature which have made it easier for people to find their
own ways of making these personal connections and better understanding their lives. The Trojan war
involved several heroes however Achilles is one that can easily be related to many athletes. Achilles
role in the Trojan war has many common themes that can be related to the story of Cleveland Browns
quarterback Johnny Manziel and his journey to the National Football Leauge. Both hero and athlete
were considered saviours, they were both very emotional men, and lastly they both enjoyed great
success before experiencing failure through their different achilles heels.
Johnny Paul Manziel is a quarterback for the American football team the Cleveland Browns of the
National Football League. He was drafted 22nd overall in the 2014 draft and was considered one of
the most appealing young quarterbacks of his generation. Manziel attended Texas A M University
from 2011 until 2013 on a full athletic scholarship. It was in his first season with Texas A M that he
made a name for himself after breaking several records. Following his break through season most
scouts had him on their radar. Manziel was being compared to some of the best to ever play the game
and whichever team was to end up drafting him was

Mood symptoms of mood disorders contrary to mood symptoms of delusional disorder are prominent and meet criteria for a full mood episode (depressive, manic, or mixed). Clinical observation led him to the hypothesis that specific combinations of symptoms in relation to the course of psychiatric illnesses allow one to identify a particular mental disorder. Today, his concept of endogenous psychosis is regarded as Kraepelins main achievement. He differentiated between dementia praecox and manic depression as the two forms of psychosis. Kraepelin considered dementia praecox as a biological illness caused by anatomical or toxic processes (Lehmann, 1997). He observed 19 cases and worked on defining the concept of paranoia, which is reflected in several editions of his famous textbook and most closely resembles the modern definition of delusional disorder. Kraepelin viewed paranoia as an uncommon, chronic condition different from dementia praecox by the presence of fixed, non bizarre delusions, lacking deterioration over time, preserved thought process, and relatively slight involvement of effect and volition (Manschreck, 2000). Kraepelin described that delusions of paranoia, contrary to the delusions of dementia praecox, are well systemized, relatively consistent, and often related to real life events. He identified persecutory, grandiose, jealous, erotomanic, and possibly hypochondriacal types of that disorder. Good Faith Bargaining ESSAY GOOD FAITH BARGAINING The objective underlying the Fair Work Act 2009 was to get the balance right (Smart Company, 2010 ; Forsyth, 2005) between fairness and flexibility in Australian workplaces while getting rid of the harsher aspects of Work Choices which preceded it. The Fair Work Act sought to restore collective bargaining in the Australian workplace relations system, including enhanced rights for union involvement and, most importantly, the good faith bargaining requirements. Good faith bargaining is an important requirement placed on the parties by the Fair Work Act 2009. The concept of good faith bargaining is not a novel concept . The absence of any reference to face to face meetings in the Act, or to reasonable places , implies that meetings via teleconference facilities (Heinsz, 2000) or other similar means would suffice, particularly where employers are located in remote areas. Therefore, the obligation to attend and participate in negotiations allows employees to feel a sense of trust between them and the management and for that reason will presumably be able to raise and convey their individual concerns openly. It is also perceived that good faith bargaining would also enable employees to negotiate more equitable and flexible outcomes (Patterson, 20002) for themselves. Thus, management will be able to determine what issues need to be addressed within the organisation and what needs to be done to resolve the problem. Overall, attending and participating in meetings will provide a forum for employers and employees to get together before engaging in the enterprise bargaining process (Anderson, 2010) to consider carefully what they are seeking from the process and what measures they will employ to determine whether the agreement will be successful. It also allows management and employees the opportunity to establish consultative mechanisms (Anderson, 2010) to examine the most effective ways of increasing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Melba fought for equality while Chavez and Mother Jones worked to improve working conditions. These three heroic individuals all enacted change in a positive way for human rights. Melba Pattillo Beals was a very brave individual who fought to end segregation. She, along with eight other students integrated Central High School, which was an all white prestigious school. She was mistreated by her peers, for example, Melba states that on the first day of school I was trying to escape the hanging rope of a lynch mob, dodging lightened sticks of dynamite, and washing away burning acid sprayed in my eyes (Beals 1). Melba went through many challenges in her days integrating, but she continued to step up to the plate, showing how brave and determined she was. In addition, while Melba was trying to use the restroom, flaming paper balls came piling down on her, and as she screamed for help, she breathed it in and choked, finally she threw her textbooks at the attackers as defense (Beals 164). This shows the fact that Melba has courage and is not afraid to fight back. Appiah s philosophies about the increased globalization of the world, or at least the increased access to cultures which often did not have significant interaction, claim that it has the overall potential to be a net positive. His theories have less to do with the actions of sovereign entity and more to do with the behavior of individuals, but he does simultaneously critique what he believes to be unethical cultural practices made by societies and so the actions of the leadership and cultural paradigm of the Revolution will be what is being judged based on the framework of Appiah s philosophy. a. Appiah s assertions have to do with something which he deems to be other than globalization: cosmopolitanism. For Appiah, cosmopolitanism goes beyond mere globalization a term that once referred to a marketing strategy, and then came to designate a macroeconomic thesis, and now can seem to encompass everything and nothing (Appiah xiii) and even multiculturalism another shape shifter, which so often designates the disease which it purports to cure (Appiah xiii) representing a grudging coexistence and maintained separation between different cultures. Beyond these insufficient terms and concepts, Appiah proposes cosmopolitanism which was coined by the Cynics of the 4th century BC and means citizen of the universe (Appiah xiv). Introduction Water shortage has been a worrisome problem facing the world. We mostly live in water rich countries washing dishes, watering plants and taking a shower, it s hard to imagine or realize there will be inadequate water supply for the world one day. Water is a finite resource such that the amount of fresh water supply provided by the hydrological cycle will not increase. Water occupies 71% of the world s surface and is an integral part of the global hydrologic cycle which includes like precipitation, evaporation and soil moisture. Without this hydrologic cycle, even a human being cannot live ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, pollution lowers the quality of water and reduces the amount of water available for use. d. Poor water management Although the supply of water in the world is limited, water shortage can still be avoided by better water management. However, some responsible agency did not take proper actions to conserve water. For example, water leakages are not properly prevented with regular maintenance of water containers and water distribution systems. Also, the number of water tankers or any other water related facilities are not adequate to store water for future use and the sewage treatment system is not well operated and supervised to prevent water being contaminated by pollutants and water can be reused. Fines should be imposed on anyone who wastes this precious source on other unnecessary areas as well as industries which continuously emit toxic substances to pollute water in order to punish them for the misuse of water and educate them to conserve water. Dams or other constructions should also be built to reduce flooding. After all, poor water management will speed up the occurrence of water shortage and become a threat of our life to us. e. The Catholic Church, however, disapproved of heliocentricity, feeling that it was contrary to the statements in the Bible: if God created human beings as His supreme creation, He would place man at the center of His cosmos. (At that time the more literal Biblical interpretation was prevalent with the church fathers, especially among the Dominican Order, facilitators of the Inquisition)2 However, real power layed with the Church, and Galileo s arguments were most fiercely fought on the religious level. Cardinal Robert Bellarmine insisted that Galileo furnish more adequate proof of his new theories before he would be allowed to teach them as true or even as probably true. Until the proof was put together, the ideas should only be taught as hypothesis. In 1623 Pope Gregory XV died, and Galileo s close friend Maffeo Barberini became Pope Urban VIII. • 18. The Cask Of Amontillado Short Story Analysis Brissa Martinez ENGL 1302 001 Short story analysis September 12, 2016 The Cask Casket Poe s use of verbal and dramatic irony in The Cask of Amontillado foreshadows the both the crime and the death of the characters in the story. Even before the story begins the use of irony is seen. In the title The Cask of Amontillado the word cask has a similar phonetic to the word casket, which is synonymous to the word coffin which leads one to believe that there will be a death in the story. One of the most ironic aspects of the story is the name that Poe gives the victim Fortunato. The irony sets in that he is very unfortunate to be fooled into such an obvious trap leading to his death, even with the name he was given and set intelligence he was supposed to have, but is blurred by the effects of alcohol. Another use of irony and foreshadowing is that the death was planned during a carnival. A carnival is usually a time of celebration, in this case it was the carnival before Lent, allowing themselves to indulge in pagan activities before the self denying 40 days celebrated by certain religions. It is ironic that this a religious filled activity filled with drunks who have no perception of reality or self awareness. At the time Fortunato ran into Montresor, Fortunato was involved with the excess of alcohol which made him become easily fooled and unaware of the reality of his situation exposing himself to Montresor almost effortlessly. When they are met Montresor is masked, he seems to be doing in what is in the best interest for Fortunato, wanting to show him the fine wine, disguising his real intentions under the mask, and Fortunato, of course, was dressed as a jester. The irony stands in that Fortunato is more willing to follow Montresor once he removes his mask, once he shows his face and is smiling and leading him down the catacombs. This is the irony that Montresor is a two faced character. Behind the mask and his words, he hides his true intentions of revenge and yet when he takes the mask off he is still deceiving Fortunato, even though one would think that once one is unmasked their true self reveals. New innovations, such as the Bessemer Process and the assembly line, provided new techniques of transportation, and stronger and larger infrastructures that dramatically transformed older cities into very massive and much more complex urbanized areas. Ironic to immigration, very poor Africans and even Whites that were already living in the United States fled to the north to seek job opportunities and to escape discrimination due to enhanced laws caused by the Plessy v. Lust is harmful to the body, mind and spirit, and it can easily be mistaken for love, as we can see in the book of 2Samuel 13:1 4, with Amnon, son of King David, erroneously getting involved with his own sister, Tamar. Lust has the opposite effect of love. Love is spiritual while lust is Carnal; and the Holy Bible says that God is love. What really is lust and how do I differentiate lust from love? When Amnon said I am in love with my sister Tamar was the bible telling us the obvious or what Amnon assume he had for her? We need to understand this very well because very many of us have gone into relationship, thinking we are driving by love when in actual lust is driving us. In addition, Jacob, who has just broken her heart, comes in and starts speaking in riddles to Bella that would involve her having to exactly remember just an ordinary conversation between the two that has that takes place weeks prior. Somehow she magically remembers this conversation. None of the events that happen seem even remotely believable. In particular, the lack of negative emotions Bella expresses upon her face plays an influential role in the films utter lack of believability. An infant with a low birth weight has a significantly higher chance of neonatal and perinatal mortality (Maheswari Behera, 2014). Babies who do persevere and survive are documented of having inadequate neurosensory, cognitive, behavioral development and limited school performance (Guyatt Snow, 2004). Shiono and Behrman (1995) state that infants with low birth weight consist of 7% of live births, however, 35% of the cost of health care goes towards caring for low birth weight infants. Studies show that African American infants are twice more than Caucasian infants to have a low birth weight. To bring a life into this world takes more than conception; sacrifices need to be made, nurturing, and providing a safe home for the child, but many minorities struggle to fulfill these needs. Health and health care are imperative when it comes to being an expecting mother; therefore, it is important that to address what influences the birth weight of African American infants in my research paper. I hope to address how factors such as racial discrimination within the American health care system, prenatal care, stress, and the age of the mother contributes to the low birth weight (LBW) disparities between African American infants and Caucasian infants. Being born into poverty is out of an individuals control. David and Collins (1997) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Similarities And Differences Of Snow White Story Snow White is a fairytale that never gets old. Countless young children know the tale by heart: A young, beautiful girl tries to live a happy life while her mother tries to kill her due to Snow White being prettier than her. Snow White, though, has a much more profound, unexploited history. There are many versions of this story that not a lot of people read. Two texts that were particularly fascinating were Gold Tree and Silver Tree as well as Nourie Hadig. In Gold Tree and Silver Tree, Silver Tree becomes jealous with Gold Tree s beauty and tries to kill her newlywed daughter, but Gold Tree made a new friend, and she helped take care of Silver Tree. In Nourie Hadig, Nourie is left in the forest by her father because her mother wants to kill her. There, she takes care of a prince all the while her mother is trying to find her. Both these stories have amazing similarities and striking differences, but the similarities significantly outweigh the differences. The stories are astonishingly similar many ways, but their characters are the most standout thing about these stories. While these figures have their differences, the similarities are much more eye catching. These characters are similar because their personalities follow a similar rhythm throughout the stories and their actions also stay the same. These stories characters represent the reason why these stories commonly have been given the title of being the origins of Snow White. Their protagonists, Nourie Hadig ... • 42. Mahatma Gandhi As A Champion Of Rhetoric After carefully reviewing all the candidates, I finally chose who I believe could be the next champion of rhetoric. Before Barack Obama and Martin Luther King Jr there was another champion that was not mentioned in the book. That champion is Mahatma Gandhi. I am interested in Mahatma Gandhi because of his principles and the way he led his people. Anyone can just sit through it all and do nothing. There are also people that think that violence and fear will be the solution of the problem, but Gandhi made a difference by using his words. Everybody knows Gandhi because he used those non violent acts, like fasting to protest. For example, when he was thrown in jail, he fasted and eventually they let him out. The reason why they let him out was because they didn t want him to die. If he died, the British knew that would mean trouble for them. After the British raised the tax on salt, Gandhi and others decided to protest against them. As a result, Gandhi led the people to the ocean so they can make their own salt. As he led them he was fully aware of the risks. As I stated before, people were not only moved by his actions but also his words. After he determined who was his audience, then he was able to compose a speech that would eventually sway them. Usually, the main purpose of his speeches was to persuade his people into taking action for a better quality of life and even sometimes to inform his people about some of the things that were going on. One of those examples is The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Sexual Abuse In Slavery Slavery has numerous of components that deeply help open up the very meaning of race. For years, many masters who sexually abuse their slave also impregnate them which causes offsprings to be mix race. However it is clear that these mixed race offspring must sacrifice their white privileges in order to survive in this institution of slavery. Even with white genes in them, they are seen as inferior and so their white privileges are taken away such as in the story of incidents in the Life of a slave girl the main characters parents were a light shade of brownish yellow, and were termed mulattoes. They lived together in a comfortable home; and, though we were all slaves, I was fondly shielded that I never dreamed I was a piece of merchandise. It is bizarre that despite the parents being mulattoes which is a term for mix race, there black genes over power there white ones and so they must face the hardship of slavery. Also, even though the girl and her family seems to be more privilege than other slaves, they still follow the same guidelines and are label as merchandise instead of a human being. Which brings up the issue of many mulattoes during the slavery time period, were also sexually harassed and abused by their masters or sometimes known as their own father. Incest was a very common practices during this slavery time period and the master usually would not have any parental emotion towards his own child and often time, After having a child by his daughter, [the] mother and child will be sold. The white master see his mulatto offspring as property too, thus not really his offspring. Which in his mind, makes it alright to rape his own children since there not a human being. Overall, whether one is fully black or only half black, to society they will never be as superior as whites and so in order for anyone with any blackness in them, they must learn to survive ... • 44. Portrait of a Lady First written in the 1880s and extensively revised in 1908, The Portrait of a Lady is often considered to be James s greatest achievement. In it, he explored many of his most characteristic themes, including the conflict between American individualism and European social custom and the situation of Americans in Europe. James proclaimed that The only reason for the existence of a novel is that it does attempt to represent reality. Plot was for him but the extension of character. The novel must show rather than tell he was interested in why people did as they did, rather than simply in what they did; motive was more important than deed. So in the end The portrait of the Lady is finally not a modernist novel. There is no such a thing yet as the autonomy of the character; truly an exploration of a character s psychological frame or mind, options. In a way Isabel remains emplotted by James. Like most of James s fiction of the 1870s, and the majority of his writing for the rest of his career, Portrait focuses on a group of expatriate Americans in England and Europe. Leisured, cultured, but just a bit bored, Daniel Touchett and his son Ralph are idly passing their time at Daniel s country estate, Gardencourt, but find themselves reenergized when Daniel s all but estranged wife, Lydia, brings with her to England her niece, a beautiful and enthusiastic orphan named Isabel Archer. Isabel is everything these men are not: lively, enthusiastic, and alert, she is a less flirtatious, more thoughtful version of Daisy Miller. But this American Girl, too, has the resistance to convention that both marks the type and makes its fate so problematic; when her Aunt Lydia reproaches her for staying up late to talk to Ralph and his friend, Lord Warburton, Isabel thanks her for informing her of the social prohibition but claims that she wants this knowledge only so as to choose whether to follow it. Despite, or perhaps because of, this very American insistence on freedom of choice, Isabel attracts one suitor after another: first Lord Warburton; then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Sociology Of Leopard Man Analysis One of the many joys of life is being able to choose your own path. The decision of being a conformist or a nonconformist lies all in the palm of your hand. In his article, The Sociology of Leopard Man , Logan Feys states, To be human is to be an individual human, with individual tastes, talents, values, and aspirations that are distinct from those of others. Living in society, we are under constant pressure to surrender our individuality to the will of the majority, the school, the workplace, the family, etc. Everyone is their own unique person, with a different personality than the next, and at the end of the day it is your personal option to display or hide your own individuality when around others. Overall, Feys claims that society holds a heavy cloud over everyone s head that pressures them to submit their own personality, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No matter what you do or say, society will always have its own judgement, and looking for its approval won t help in the long run. If you are content with yourself and embrace who you are as an individual, someone will always accept and love you for who you are. All things considered, I have found myself completely agreeing with Logan Feys and his views on individuality and the statement of breaking free of society s shackles in order to be who you are freely. In the long run, doing so will provide you the opportunity to be genuinely happy, embrace your individuality, and lastly think for yourself. It is important to learn to take advantage of the choices and opportunities that life has handed you; to learn to control your own life and not let society do it for ...
