Investigating Reaction Rates of Sodium Thiosulphate and...
Investigating Reaction Rates of Sodium Thiosulphate and Hydrochloric Acid Aim: To investigate the
rate of reaction of Sodium Thiosulphate and Hydrochloric acid. In this investigation I will be varying
the concentration of Sodium Thiosulphate only and not the Hydrochloric acid concentration. In this
investigation I will use the following word equation: Sodium Thiosulphate + Hydrochloric acid In this
investigation I will use the following symbol equation: Na2S2O3 + Hcl Prediction: I predict that as
the Sodium Thiosulphate concentration increases the rate of reaction will also increase. The reason I
predict this is because there will be a higher concentration of ... Show more content on

The collision theory explains all there is to the rate of reaction. The collision theory states that the rate
of reaction depends on how often and how hard the reacting particles collide. Reacting particles need
to collide with each other to be able to react. The more collisions there are then the faster the rate of
reaction will be. The following methods of increasing the rate of reaction can be explained by
increasing the number of collisions between the reacting particles: * Temperature When the
temperature is increased in a reaction the particles begin to move around much quicker. This means
that when they collide with each other they will collide harder. * Catalyst A catalyst works by giving
the reacting particles a surface to stick to on which they can collide with each other on. This also
increases the number of collisions between the particles. * Size If one of the reactants is a solid it will
have a smaller surface area than a solid that is broken up into smaller pieces. This allows the particles
in the solution to have a bigger area to collide in. * Concentration A more concentrated solution means
there are more reactant particles moving about amongst the water particles. This makes collisions
between the reactant particles more

Why The Song Pumped Up Kicks
Would you ever think a song about killing people would ever be a top hit in the music industry?
Pumped Up Kicks , a popular song that debuted in 2011 by Foster the People is about a psychotic
individual who wants to get revenge on the rich people by killing them. Mark Foster, the leading band
member of Foster the People wrote Pumped Up Kicks to spread awareness about mental illness. The
meaning behind the song is deeper than what is actually said in the lyrics. The song is precisely
focusing on the growing trend of mental illness and how it has affected people through the years.
When writing this song Mark Foster got inside a psychotic individual s mind to get a better
understanding as to why they express their emotions by harming others. Changes should be made in
the coming years about mental illness because it s only going to get worse if people keep on ignoring
this subject. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the song Mark Foster didn t write about being the victim or about the victim instead he
got into a psychotic individual s mind. Robert, Mark Foster s alter ego in the song was strongly
motivated to cause harm to people who are higher economic status due to his resentment and anger
from past experiences of being an outsider. From reading and listening to this song it seems that he has
a negative view for the future and wants to eliminate the wealthy people. There is no actual violence
in the song, although in the person s internal mind they are threats. Because he didn t directly say that
he was going to kill the rich people it made the song seem less

Essay on The New Liberal Arts
Anh Pham
English 101
The New Liberal Arts is an article written by Sanford J. Ungar, who is a president of Goucher College
in Baltimore, Maryland. In the beginning of his article, Ungar wrote, Hard economic times inevitably
bring scrutiny of all accepted ideals and institutions, and this time around the liberal arts education has
been especially hard hit. In other words, Ungar means that recent economic recessions have made a
huge impact on what people think of going for a liberal arts degree. In his essay, Ungar lists seven
misperceptions and how he reacts to them. The most common misperception that Ungar identified is
that liberal arts degrees are no longer affordable. The cost for liberal arts education is very expensive

He wrote, The career bandwagon seems to suggest that shortcuts are available to students that lead
directly to high paying jobs leaving out frills like learning how to write and speak well, how to
understand the nuances of literacy texts and scientific concepts, how to collaborate with others on
research What he means by that is there is no shortcuts to a high paying jobs. He also implies that
liberal arts education is the only right way to prepare an individual for their future career because it
equips ones with the abilities to write and speak formally, and understandings on scientific matter or
how to cooperate with other people for your work, etc. However, I do not think he can deny the fact
that the starting salary for a liberal arts graduate is approximately $32,500 while for an engineer is
$75,000, (http://www.mtu.edu/engineering/outreach/welcome/salary/). For instant, what can a person
possibly do with his philosophy degree right after graduating? He will probably have to go for more
schooling before he can find a high paying job at some big firms or he will have to struggle a lot
before he can open his philosophy shop or publish his book. In short, a liberal arts degree will take
longer to see its worth than career education or vocational training.

A Brief Note On An International Environment Agreement
Assignment 2: Individual Research Paper on an International Environment Agreement
United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification: Empowering Local Populations to the expense
of concrete results
Introduction
The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) was adopted in 1994 as a
product of the Rio Conference which took place in 1992. It attempts to combat desertification which is
defined as land degradation in arid, semi arid and dry sub humid areas resulting from various factors
including climatic variations and human activities. (Marc Johnson, 2006, Chapter 1) Land degradation
is a process of reduction or loss of the biological and economic productivity and complexity of
cropland, pasture and forest. By nature, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through its dual focus on environment and development, the Convention is seen as the perfect
approach to sustainable development. Since its creation, objectives have evolved and now consist in
influencing international actors by raising awareness, providing strong policy frameworks in affected
countries, enhancing scientific knowledge about desertification, identifying and addressing capacity
building. Finally, it also aims to mobilize as well as improve financial resources (Secretariat UNCCD,
2013). Stinger and numerous Conference of Parties (COP) reports highlight the concerning lack of
benchmarks and indicators to understand phenomena, monitor convention s impacts and progress as
well as evaluate possible strategies. This is mostly a consequence of the absence of means to conduct
measurements in affected countries. What are the challenges the Convention is facing? So far, has the
UNCCD achieved some its targets?
Identify and describe
The UNCCD has to deal with many challenges arising from the nature of the environmental problem
itself and the structure of the Convention.
There is no international consensus on the definition of desertification, nor the possible solutions to
revert its effect on land and populations. The conception and interpretation of this process is difficult
and therefore hard to implement in national policies. Moreover concrete results are slow to come

Comparing Huckleberry Finn And The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer
A reason why novels such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom
Sawyer by Mark Twain are considered some of the best pieces of American literature is because Twain
s writing style revolutionized literature. Twain, unlike many authors at the time, chose to write his
books in a more realistic perspective of American culture. Shying away from the romantic and
transcendentalist techniques is what allowed Twain to become an instant literary giant. Within Mark
Twain s works, he successfully captures and illustrates what American life was like in his lifetime.
This realistic approach allows people to see the grim and gritty reality of his time period. Today Twain
s novels can be perceived as a portal into nineteenth century life. Back then people were desensitized
to derogatory slurs and lingos of their time just as we are to our own today. Modern people attempt to
protect their children from the harshness and evils of reality, which in turn, leads to censorship. This
crusade against political correctness has turned on to The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of writing style conflicted with the more popular types that only glorified America without
addressing any negative issues. Back in Twain s time, people hated the fact he had chosen to create a
slave character who had dignity, so much in fact that his book was banned from stores. This parallels
the conflict over the same book one hundred years into the future, but now there is a different reason.
In The Adventures of HuckleBerry Finn the N word appears an excessive 219 times and has been
banned in some schools because the N word was not inclusive and made students uncomfortable
(Akkoc). The N word should not be be edited from the book because it would disconnect the reader
from the realistic point of view Twain strived to achieve. It also downplays how the minority group
was treated during the time

California is suspected of experiencing a killer quake, one that reaches the magnitude of 7.5.
However, it is impossible to predict an earthquake. The Puente Hills Fault is one of the most
dangerous sleeping monsters (if it were to) create an earthquake. It is located in the Los Angeles basin,
where it can cause approximately 45 seconds of rippling instead of just 7 seconds because it is on
softer ground, cause thousands of deaths, and potentially destroy the city of Los Angeles. The first big
one that hit California was in San Francisco by the San Andreas Fault. This earthquake gave
recognition to the dangers of the tectonic plates right beneath us. In Northridge, a 6.4 earthquake

American Pie Summary
Don McLean wrote American Pie to make people cognizant of the plane crash that killed Buddy
Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P Richardson. Through metaphors and allegories, he tries to explain that
the death of these musicians was a sad and almost unholy event that he was grieving severely about. In
it though he also references things that other musicians did in their lifetimes. In the stanza We all got
up to dance/ Oh, but we never got the chance/ Cause the players tried to take the field/ The marching
band refused to yield, it in its entirety is an allegory for how the Beatles were trying to make music
that you would listen to, but not dance to, and then started writing anti violence songs against the
Vietnam protesters, that made some of the protesters question their actions. The players being the

Sandy Hearst Argumentative Essay
After the trial and listening to the statements of the prosecutors involved, it is now up to the jury to
decide what happens in this case. Dana Ivy is said to have been drunk, which resulted in a car accident
on the morning of December 17. However, the defensive side says she was not intoxicated and that
was not the cause of this accident occurring at the intersection of Justice and Eagle street. This
accident resulted in severe injuries to Terry Vickers, the other citizen involved in this accident. Terry
Vickers wants to charge Sandy Hearst, the host of a party that occurred on the night of December 16,
for the damages. The plaintiff argues that Sandy was pushing drinks on Dana Ivy making her unable to
operate a vehicle with control. Although Dana Ivy states to have not been drunk and that the accident

people at the party, making it easier for Dana to blend in. However, if Dana was acting different from
all the other guests showing signs of intoxication that is unusual for herself to do, it would be a
reliable statement. Even though alcoholic drinks were served, Sandy provided drinks for non drinkers
as well and even offered them to all her guests including Dana Ivy. Sandy Hearst may be liable for
serving alcoholic beverages but, that does not mean she was forcing that to be the only option of

Pros And Cons In The Philippines
I disagree with this statement, because I believe that no matter how bad the international reputation of
a country can be, it can still somehow be remedied through different means. It is false to assume that
no amount of PR can help, because it truly can. It is true that crime, corruption, cultural immaturity,
and disunity are present in the Philippines. It does not help that the news and media outlets mostly put
out negative news and content. However, this should not be the main image that is being portrayed
internationally. Although it is not easy to change the Philippines international image, it is not
impossible because of PR.
PR is really tailored to fit specific situations, and one of them is to invite people to visit a country.
Therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A good PR message must have a catch phrase that is concise yet encompasses the scope of what needs
to be said. It must also be easy to remember, so the publics would retain the message easily. A good
PR message, especially in this case, must be easy to execute and integrate into culture. The key
problem here is that the bad qualities of the Philippines that are most often shown through
international news outlets might drive foreigners away. Therefore, the PR message should focus on the
integration of the good characteristics that the Philippines can offer. There should be a focus on the
beautiful beaches or other places in nature that can only be found in the Philippines. It should focus on
how warm and welcoming the Filipino people are. It should focus on how conducive it is for
international clients to invest in properties or start up businesses in the Philippines. A good PR
message can take away the focus of the foreigners from the bad issues that are prevalent in our
country. Instead, it provides a certain reality for them that the Philippines are an amazing place to visit
or invest in. Therefore, the PR message must contain interesting facts about the Philippines that would
overshadow its bad

Qantas s Pricing Strategy
PRICING
Prices reflect the unique value of the brand to a certain extent. Brand positioning builds the unique
brand image in the minds of consumers, so price setting and adjustments must adapt brand
positioning, and brand positioning shows the brand s unique value through price (Kotler, 2013, p.
215). For Qantas, the pricing strategy utilises a cost plus margin method of product pricing, offering
lower pricing in accordance to the market demand. The number of travellers requiring Qantas services,
prompt the airline to adjust pricing rates accordingly.
Qantas Airways provides different prices, to different customers, and combines the price setting with
customer needs (Suciu, 2013). The airline uses a full fare policy, for these customers, ... Show more

luxury features available, along with emphasising the airline providing high quality safety and
environmental standards, and customer services. These forms of mass advertising will enable visual
attraction of new and existing customers, towards the premium level of air travel services.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
Marketing requires making public relations a priority to attract consumer attention. In turn, the public
relations promotional tool remains an important option for raising the Qantas Airways reputation.
Public relations, by Qantas, manage publicity directed at financial stakeholders and political bodies,
while promoting the company image and brand. As part of the consumer marketing strategy, Qantas
use brand ambassadors, as a promotional tool, for both global and domestic markets, increasing the
brand value. A popular international superstar, John Travolta signed as the chosen Qantas global
Ambassador at Large (Qantas Airways Limited, 2017).

It is my belief that we shouldn t extend the school year. I think this because there are programs to help

Fallacy Paper
Fallacies are committed in every state, in every city and in every neighborhood. No race or gender is
impervious to committing a fallacy. So, what is a fallacy? Patrick J. Hurley defines a fallacy as, A
defect in an argument that consists in something other than false premises alone. These defects result
in misconception in an argument. Many times they are accidental, other times they are committed on
purpose. However, either way, fallacies can be very persuasive to the casual reader or listener. One in
particular, the false cause fallacy, is used quite often in today s society. Hurley states that, The fallacy
of false cause occurs whenever the link between premises and conclusion depends on some imagined

A remedy society knows as trial and error. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) use
fallacies in almost all of their advertisements. In fact, Veggie Love, a super bowl video ad by PETA,
claims that vegetarians have better sex. In the video, gorgeous women dressed in lingerie are groping
broccoli, asparagus and even a licking a pumpkin. This video commits the false cause fallacy because
it expresses that people are having great sex because they are vegetarians. In addition, if a person
wants to have great sex, they need to become a vegetarian. It is also possible that an argument commit
more than one fallacy at a time. This video also commits the hasty generalization fallacy, because it
states that if you eat vegetables you will have great sex with gorgeous women, therefore the obvious
conclusion is that all vegetarians have great sex! To tell these two different types of fallacies apart a
reader or listener must know what defines these two types of fallacies. Because Veggie Love focuses
on vegetarians and great sex, and PETA claims that there is a causal connection between the two, it
can be defined as a false cause fallacy. Because the video also claims that people who eat vegetables
have great sex, we can assume that all vegetarians have great sex which can be defined as

Treatment Of Pressure Ulcers For Spinal Cord Injury Patients
Pressure ulcers are a secondary health condition of spinal cord injury patients. The prevalence of
pressure ulcers for spinal cord injury patients can reach up to 95% and for many it can be a recurrent
problem. The article that I have chosen to review sets out to compare ultraviolet C versus a placebo
ultraviolet C and how each effect the wound healing process for a spinal cord injury patient. The main
outcome measures were the percent area of the wound compared to baseline area of the wound. As the
wound decreased in size it is theoretically assumed that the wound is healing. The central concepts of
the study were based on ultraviolet C positive effects on wound healing in vitro. In vitro studies
effects include; modification of growth factors, fibronectin release from fibroblast, epidermal cell
proliferation, killing of pathogens, accelerated DNA synthesis, and antibiotic resistant organisms. This
study hypothesized that ultraviolet C would contribute as a statistically significant effective
intervention for the treatment of pressure ulcers in spinal cord injury patients. A previous study in the
1990s showed ultraviolet C to be effective in pressure ulcers for spinal cord injury patients versus a
nursing care control group. This previous study failed to show a statistical significance and failed to
account for drop outs within the control group. Once inclusion, exclusion, and desire to participate
was met 43 individuals with who had a total of 58 ulcers

Social Discrepancies Of Titanic, By James Cameron
Social Discrepancies of Titanic Proportions James Cameron s renowned film Titanic is more than just
a love story, and more than a mere portrayal of the tragic sinking of the unsinkable ship; it is a
representation of the socioeconomic disparities between the haves and the have nots during the early
1900s. As explained by Levinson (2012), Edwardian era society was based on a social hierarchy
dictated by wealth and social class; specifically, the Titanic s passengers were divided into three
classes, determined not only by the price of their ticket, but by their wealth and social position (150).
This socioeconomic class division is evident through the film s plot in which Jack Dawson, a jobless,
lower class American who wins his way onto the RMS Titanic, shares an inter socioeconomic class
relationship with upper class Rose DeWitt Bukater. This storyline allows for overlaps between the first
and third class, and ultimately depicts the ideology of Outsiders versus Insiders (LCR). Outlined in the
Left Center Right Model for identifying ideologies, Outsiders versus Insiders is an ideology where a
left wing view identifies with the poor and disenfranchised, also know as the Outsiders, and the right
winged view identifies with the Establishment and people in power, or the Insiders (LCR). Titanic
represents the outsider oriented perspective on social class through the difference between first and
third class environments, the neglect given towards the third class,

How Does Tim O Brien Use Syntax In The Things They Carried
By using syntax, repetition, and evidence, Tim O Brien builds an argument to convey the reality that
the soldiers in the Vietnam War had something to carry, both physically and emotionally.
In The Things They Carried , O Brien uses syntax to arrange his sentences in order to show the harsh
correlation between the weight of real and mental possessions. For example, O Brien first introduces
the 30 pound PRC scrambler radio, then immediately follows with the weight of memory. Appealing
to emotion by displaying that, like the heavy radio, the weight of memory also was a burden, but
something that they were forced to carry.
With the use of repetition, O Brien accomplishes to show the connection between the Vietnam soldiers

Charles Kilfoye wrote these inspired by Dewey. Kilfoye used his research to take a look into the
deficits of the school system and their lack of technological advancements within the education
system. Both Dewey in 1899 and Kilfoye in 2013 recognized these deficits (Kilfoye, 2013). By
allowing students to use such technologies as the internet, smart boards, smartphones and other
devices that are available will allow students to become familiar with the workings of technology. In
this unit students use google maps to represent their trips and their findings, use the smart board for
presentations and virtual field trips and they use tables and phones to find and create images for their
discoveries. The 1915 debate in the New Republic between John Dewey and David Snedden laid out
the moral, ethical, and industrial challenges of this discussion, one that continues to resonate among
educators today (Braundy, 2004). This discussion was about the development of free public schooling
for all students and if it was the future occupations or the education that was of most importance. Of
course Dewey felt as though it was the education was that important. Focusing on the current issues in
education and fulfilling those before moving on to employment (Braundy, 2004). He felt as though it

Moreover, the number of clients who have received services simply identifies the number of clients
who proceeded through the program. Outcomes identify the changes, impact, or benefits of the clients
both during and after the program. For example, an outcome may be for clients to stop drinking in an
alcohol program. Individuals should be aware that outcomes are different from outputs, for an
example, the amount of clients who pass through a program. (Lewis, Packard amp; Lewis, 2006) The
changes or outcomes can be conveyed in the following terms. First knowledge, and skills outcomes
are thought of as short term outcomes. Then behaviors are included, which weigh up as intermediate

long term outcomes. Furthermore, the number and percent of participants the department wants to

The Theme of Nature in Frankenstein Essay
In 1818 Frankenstein was written by Mary Shelley. In Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein brings a
creature to life. The creature kills William, Henry Clerval, and Elizabeth. Victor had promised to make
a female creature for the creature, but he did not fulfill his promise. This makes the creature enraged.
The creature runs away and Victor follows him. Victor gets on a boat with Walton. Victor dies and the
creature comes and is very sad that his creator has died. The creature says that he must end his
suffering and he jumps into the ocean. In the novel Frankenstein, Shelley uses the theme of nature to

The creature also wants to be noticed. The mountain is very beautiful, but during the storm it may
look scary. The creature is can be beautiful through his acts of kindness, like helping people, but also
is unattractive and can look and be grotesque. In the essay, Frankenstein and Mary Shelley s wet
ungenial summer , Phillips states, Some of her descriptions were later incorporated into her novel. In
another letter to her sister Fanny, on June 1st 1816, Mary wrote: The thunder storms that visit us are
grander and more terrific than I have ever seen before. We watch them as they approach from the
opposite side of the lake, observing the lightning play among the clouds in various parts of the
heavens, and dart in jagged figures upon the heights of Jura, dark with the shadow of the overhanging
could, while perhaps the sun is shining cheerily upon us. (Phillips 3) Many of Mary Shelley s ideas
came from nature. A storm similar to this one was seen by victor. She uses this storm to describe how
Victor sees the creature. Victor thinks the creature is violent at times and beautiful at others. In
addition, the creature causes destruction like an avalanche. Shelley writes, In a thousand spots the
traces of the winter avalanche may be perceived, where trees lie broken and strewed on the ground;
some entirely destroyed, others bent, leaning upon the rocks of the mountain or transversely upon
other trees. The path, as you ascend higher, is intersected by ravines of the

The Political Background Of Hobby
Well first off, I d like to say that having never really been all that interested in politics, analyzing the
life of a politician wasn t exactly something I felt too enthusiastic to delve into. Having said all that,
my intrigue in understanding the political background of Hobby picked up right from page #1 in the
book. Being a first generation American in my family with direct roots to the small fairly new nation
of Bangladesh and being a New York native myself, I ve never really thought of how much a
connection one such as Hobby must have with a state or a land to truly become immersed in its realm
of politics. Dating back to the Civil War, Hobby s ancestors both provided service to the Texan
republic from Major Alfred Marmaduke Hobby of the Eighth Texas Confederate Infantry Regiment to
Captain of Company D Edwin E. Hobby. The Marmaduke s have made a great impact on Texas ever
since, with Major Marmaduke rejecting Union Lt. Kittredge s demand to inspect government
buildings as well as retaliating against the Union ship USS Arthur itself through open fire and Edwin
Hobby going onto becoming a district judge within the Livingston and Polk counties respectively. Bill
Hobby s very own father; Will Hobby went from being the president of the Houston Post to Lieutenant
Governor of Texas.
Another thing I noticed was how far a single implementation of a law or an amendment can so
drastically change the political culture even if it takes a few generations to sink in. On pages

Building Face Composites Can Harm Lineup Identification...
1: Briefly describe the aim(s) of the study:
In the extract the authors state that the aim of the experiment was to determine if the composite
building process could harm (or alter) the builder s remembrance of a face in a lineup identification
situation. The study also seems to have a number of secondary aims with the two experiments using
still photos in the lineup in experiment #1 and the eyewitnesses watching a replicated crime video in
its place of still photos for experiment #2. The 2nd experiment also questions what will happen if the
witness views a lineup that does not contain the actual target, whereas in the first experiment the target
was always in the lineup.
2: Indicate whether or not the study was theoretically motivated:
The introduction segment of the article delivers substantial review of the literature that has driven the
study. They note that over the last 25 30 years, cognitive and social psychologists have performed
research questioning the accuracy of eyewitness identification evidence and are planning methods to
advance eyewitness identification precision (Cutler Penrod, 1995; Wells, 1993). Additionally they note
that the U.S justice system has now started to incorporate better methods of eyewitness identification
based on this psychological research (Wells et al., 2000).
The authors state that over the last decade, forensic DNA testing has been used to exonerate people
who were convicted of crimes they did not commit, and the vast

WorldCom Failure in relation to its Organizational Behavior
INTRODUCTION
Year 2002 saw an unprecedented number of corporate scandals: Enron, Tyco, Global Crossing, etc. In
many ways, WorldCom is just another case of failed corporate governance, accounting abuses, and
outright greed. Many people may question if there is a secret to operating a successful business in
modern times. Some may argue that success is based on being at the right place at the right time with
the right idea and the right amount of money. Other may debate that success is based on hard work
and ethics that are accompanied by many failed attempts before ... Show more content on

WORLDCOM SCANDAL INVESTIGATION RESULTS
Evidence shows that the accounting fraud was discovered as early as June 2001, when several former
employees gave statements alleging instances of hiding bad debt, understating costs, and backdating
contracts. However, WorldCom s board of directors did not investigate these claims. Although
employees and investors look for individual culpability, WorldCom s organizational structure, group
processes, and culture contributed to the fraud and length of time over which it occurred. The SEC s
investigation into the accounting fraud at WorldCom turned up several key players. The following is a
list of high ranking WorldCom executives and other employees who were implicated on the
accounting fraud: * Bernard Ebbers former CEO of WorldCom. Suspected in accounting fraud but no
charges have been filed against him yet. * Scott Sullivan former CFO of WorlCom. Indicted on
charges of securities fraud, conspiracy, and false statements to the SEC. * David Myers former
controller of WorlCom. Charged with securities fraud, conspiracy, and false statements to the SEC. *
Buford Yates Jr. former director of general accounting. He pled guilty to charge of securities fraud and
conspiracy. * Betty Vinson former director of management reporting. Pled guilty to charges of

Essay on The Untruthfulness of Language
Untruthfulness of language Throughout the play King Lear, written by William Shakespeare the theme
of deception and the manipulation of language is the very root of the tragedy. The language used by
individuals affects the relationships around them, hides the dark nature within them and creates fights
between friends and family. The theme of deception goes hand in hand with the theme of appearance
vs reality since most of the characters alter the way they seem to others so they don t know what they
really are capable of. Throughout the play language is the cause to all the problems, since the
characters that are best at twisting their words, are only interested in improving their own lives and
gain more land as well as power. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also at this moment, the relationship of Gloucester with his sons is slowly falling apart, as Edmund
the illegitimate son begins telling lies and making rumors to make his father believe that Edgar his

land. Gloucester in a fit of rage and betrayal believes Edmund and exiles Edgar announcing that if he
ever comes back then he will be put to death on the spot. O my follies! Then Edgar was abused. Kind
Gods, forgive me that, and prosper him! (Gloucester, 3.7.91 93) At this point of time, Gloucester has

thus showing to him that Edmund had lied about everything and that Edgar was innocent. He begs for
forgiveness since he ruined his relationship with his son who actually cared for him over a lie and was
now paying the price for it. All Lear can perceive is his black and white view that the poetry of praise

Dallas Cowboys Job
I have dreamed of becoming a team manager for the NFL team Dallas Cowboys. Initially, I wanted to
pursue a career in team management. Being a team manager, I would work to develop relationships
between the coaches and players. An important part of that would also be working with parents of the
athletes and protecting the career path of each player. I think it would be an excellent opportunity to
share my history and knowledge of athletics as well as personal experiences. The thrill of controlling
all the teams finances and coaching staff is something I have always dreamed of. Being able to live
my mark on the team forever. But before I can leave my mark I have to beat out the owner of the team

1. The replacement of highly paid workers with lower paid workers did not cause Circuit City to
perform so poorly. I have come to this conclusion based off of the section, Caveat Emptor, and am
confident in my response. I do feel as though the variables were measured effectively and were useful
in their research. However, just because it was useful does not mean they were actually related. The
replacement of the highly paid workers with the lower paid workers is not necessarily the reason for
Circuit City s poor performance. Even prior to 2007, Circuit City s stock prices from 2001 onward

Review Questions
1. Differing perspectives affect our views of compensation. It does not mean the same thing to
everyone. A person s view can differ depending on whether you look at compensation from the
perspective of a member of society, a stockholder, a manager, or an employee. Everyone is different.
For example, an employee may have a different idea of what compensation is when compared to a
stockholder. An employee may see compensation as a return in exchange between their employer and
themselves, as an entitlement for being an employee of the company, or as a reward for a job well
done. A stockholder on the other hand would have a different point of view. Stockholders are
interested in how employees are paid and some believe that using stock to pay employees creates a
sense of ownership that will improve performance which will in turn increase stockholder wealth.
Additionally, compensation becomes a great interest to stockholders when it comes to compensating
the CEO.
2. I can definitely relate to the definition from the employees point of view. My personal definition for
compensation is what I get in return for my hard

How To Survive Native American Life
Several hundred years ago, Native Americans had to survive in the New World without the creature
comforts we have today. The winters in prehistoric Ohio are historic for being harsh. This shows that
the Native Americans knew exactly how to survive the winter without the abundant resources in today
s society. The three things I would focus on if I had to survive a winter in prehistoric Ohio is shelter,
food and water, and forming a culture with the other people around me. The first thing I would focus
on if I had to survive a winter in prehistoric Ohio is shelter. I would first search for a suitable cave to
live in. It would be easier than building a house from scratch. It provides natural geothermal heating,
plus I would not have to worry about repairs or my shelter breaking down. Obviously, the geothermal
heat would not be enough during the winter, so I would have to make a fire pit within my cave for not
only heat but lighting too. And, since I am in a cave I do not have to worry about burning down my
shelter as well. The one thing I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

between myself and other people we can live together and form a culture that can sustain no only the
winter but several winters in a row. The three things I would focus on if I had to survive a winter in
prehistoric Ohio is shelter, food and water, and forming a culture with the other people around me. I

use and develop systems that promote communication
UNIT 1 USE AND DEVELOP SYSTEMS THAT PROMOTE COMMUNICATION 1 1.1 There are
many groups of people a Manager needs to communicate with in order to do the job effectively and
efficiently. Staff need to be one of the first and most important groups. A Manager running a 24 hour
service must recognise their staff are the promoters and advocates of the service in a Managers
absence, next would be the service users themselves. Any service will have other health professionals

The Care Standards Act 2000 introduced regulations to protect the privacy and dignity of people
receiving care. it has put in place an independent regulatory system regarding care services. This can
be challenging for the staff of a service as the CQC standards can be conflicting with the
commissioners (the borough that are paying for the individuals to live in each home) standards.
Alongside this organisations can have uniform paperwork that is expected to be in place, the
Operations Manager to the service will do a monitoring visit to each home on a monthly basis, and
could ask for a procedure to change, or to implement a new piece of legislation. The Manager would
then need to send a copy of the proposed change to both the CQC and local commissioner for
approval. Another challenge to effective communication is part time employment. Waiting for a
response to something urgent, when the person concerned is not back at work for 2 days is frustrating.
It also means effective handover periods and staff communication is essential. This is when the
communication book, and minutes to meetings that have taken place, are vital. They support the lines
of communication. Staff sickness is a challenge, if short notice and agency staff has to be used, this
puts pressure on the permanent staff member, as they have to ensure the temporary staff is aware of

The Dangers Of Racial Profiling
Racial profiling is the act of suspecting or targeting a person, based on observations of a person
character or behavior (Hayle, S., Wortley, S., Tanner, J.,
2016). Racial profiling is not a new concept; it has been a practice for quite some time. Racial
profiling is quite common in the African American communities. Small groups of African American
males are often the target. The act is carried out by white police officers. Although a common practice
of white versus black, racial profiling may affect other ethnic groups as well. More so, racial profiling
occurs when the police judge a person based on race, behavior, or group affiliation (Hayle, S.,
Wortley,

Racial profiling is also evident in the case, Bennet vs. City of Eastpointe a case that took place in

Introduction: Nestlé s lineage dates back to 1867 when Henri Nestle founded the company Ste Henri
Nestle and was responsible for producing infant food composed of milk, grain, and carbohydrates.
Before Nestle even knew it, the company grew substantially and was required to build plants in each
major market it was located in, so that to ensure efficient production and distribution. This way the
company could gain sustainability within its home market, as well as in its European based markets.
The gain in Nestlé s rapid popularity was mainly accounted towards large numbers of doctors all over

With Nestle being recognized worldwide, providing a wide variety of products ultimately results in
greater flexibility and leverage for organizational decisions. In addition, existing products are prone to
become stronger and gain greater value through innovations and R amp;D. The stronger Nestlé s
brands are the more value they can create, not only for their consumers, but also for their shareholders.
Weaknesses:
* Standardization of products since standardized products and images are not sensitive to cultural
differences, misfortunes accruing to global brands such as Nestle can reverberate across entire product
ranges and tarnish corporate reputations either on a region wide or worldwide scale. Therefore it is
crucial for management to carefully analyze the cultural context in which it is operating. * Weak brand
image in U.S. a strong controversy over Nestlé s aggressive marketing efforts to 3rd World mothers
resulted in a much publicized boycott in the U.S. that still persists today within the diverse American
culture. Another issue that adds to a weaker brand image majorly by the U.S. is that concerning the
chocolate bar Kit Kat. Even though Kit Kat is produced worldwide by Nestle, it is not the case in the
U.S. where Hershey Inc. has acquired the license to produce the candy bar.

Year Of Wonders Anna Quotes
Anna Frith faces more horrific terrors in her life than many warriors in a battle field. Geraldine Brooks
novel Year of Wonders discovers the strength of Anna throughout the year of the bubonic plague in
1666. Anna is seen as a heroic figure that lived through hardship, social challenges, and even death,
making her a central beacon of hope and a charter of great courage even though she is just a serving
girl. The selfishness shown by Colonel Bradford, the thefts of Anna s parents, Josiah and Aphra Bont
and murders of village healers Mem and Anys Gowdie by the grieving mob of villagers all
demonstrate that in times of great adversity some sink to the very base instincts of self interest,
survival and superstition. However, along with Anna, Elinor Mompellion and her husband and towns

The Epic of Gilgamesh and Sumerian Culture Essay
The Epic of Gilgamesh and Sumerian Culture The Epic of Gilgamesh is generally regarded as the
greatest literature about tales of a great king. The Epic of Gilgamesh served to show us a lot of things.
The time period of BCE is very blurry, and this story attempts to describe many different things in not
only Sumerian beliefs, but also Sumerian s culture as a whole. Like many stories from BCE the truth
itself is questionable, even though a lot of the information is fact. The factual information that
Gilgamesh teaches us about Sumerian Civilization is that had had many craftsman and artistic skills,

This is proof of the Sumerian architectural abilities. The architecture in Mesopotamia are considered
to have been contemporary with the founding of the Sumerian cities, but there was some complexity
in the architectural design during this Protoliterate period (c. 3400 c. 2900 BC). This is shown in the
design of many religious buildings. Typical temples of the Protoliterate period both the platform type
and the type built at ground level are, however, much more elaborate both in planning and ornament.
The interior was decorated with cones sunk into the wall, covered in bronze. Most cities were simple
in structure, but the ziggurat was one of the world s first complex architectural structures. The
Sumerian temples, called ziggurats was a small brick house that the god was supposed to visit
periodically. This house, however, was set on a brick platform, which became larger and taller as time
progressed. Along with showing many types of Sumerian craftsmanship, the epic shows the strong
belief in many gods. All through out the story Gilgamesh comes in contact with many gods. But even
before the contact with the gods, there was talk about Gilgamesh being created by them. When the

Gonadotropins Research Paper
Injectable Fertility drugs (gonadotropins)
What are gonadotropins?
Gonadotropins are injectable fertility medications, containing follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)
alone or combined with luteinizing hormone (LH). During a natural menstrual cycle, both FSH and
LH are produced by the pituitary gland in the brain to naturally stimulate the ovaries to produce a
single egg each month. When FSH (with or without LH) is given as an injection, it works directly on
the ovaries to make multiple follicles (cysts containing eggs).
Gonadotropins are used during fertility treatments such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro
fertilization (IVF). Injections of gonadotropins are started early in the menstrual cycle to cause
multiple eggs to grow to a mature size. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), another injectable
medication, is then used to trigger the release of the eggs when they are mature. Close monitoring of
patients with ultrasound who are using these medications is advised in order to minimize the side
effects and risks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

1. Sometimes if you are not ovulating, Gonadotrophins are given in the amount roughly equal to that

2. Gonadotrophins are commonly used in IVF cycles. The intention here is to produce ideally 10 to 15

that the process of IVF is relatively inefficient and the more eggs that are available for fertilization, the

Proper Neuropsychological Assessment Of The Case Of A 19...
The following report will discuss a proper neuropsychological assessment in respect to the literature
for the case of a 19 year old man under investigation for possible shoplifting suspected to have low
intellectual functions. The neuropsychologist has been asked to evaluate the subject´s intellectual
abilities, however, it is important for the clinician to consider that this man has a long story of physical
altercations with possible associated brain injuries.
It is suggested that TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) can damage systems related to functions such as self
regulation, attention, planning, memory, language, initiation, inhibition as well as identifying facial
expressions, tone of voice, and relating them to emotion (Williams, Mcaulifee, Cohen, et al., 2015). It
might equally cause deterioration in mood and behavior, therefore, social aspects of the patient s life
may be affected to the point of presenting non acceptable social behavior. (Williams, et al., 2015) In
the history of Neuropsychology, the best known case of Frontal Lobe lesions interfering with

Sexism In The Yellow Wallpaper
Charlotte Perkins Gilman was one of the first female writers to compose a woman s point of view
experience on mental illness. She uses characterization and setting to express such vivid imagery of
the yellow wallpaper. Perkins displays the damaging effect that isolation has on a woman in her
deteriorating mental state. Gilman ties the relationship of characterization and setting through
depression and mental torture. In a haunted like, victorian gothic style mansion, it is the place John
takes the narrator so she can be treated through a rest cure. The mansion does not belong to John or his
wife, and they currently don t fit in there. Much like how the narrator doesn t fit her housewife role.
The mansion is very secluded, which demonstrates that John was wanting to camouflage the narrator
from the public society because he could have been embarrassed of the narrator s mental illness. The
narrator was kept in a kind of prison in her marriage. While sexism and female oppression was
damaging the narrator s mentality, her mental state releases itself, first through her journal and then by
surrendering to dementia. The satire of dementia was the illness which her husband most sought to
avoid only compounds the Narrator s helplessness. Her husband has positive purpose that what he
believe is legitimate and right. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The color connects the Narrator s own illness. It symbolizes the depression as diagnosed by her
husband. The lackluster yellow, nevertheless, supports the wallpaper chaotic and detaining design just
as the narrator s illness is conveyed by the circumstances filed upon her detained mind against the
male controlled universe she consumes. Around the advancement of the short story, the figurative
effectiveness of the wallpaper cultivates itself when the narrator absolutely breaches from the wall to

The Argument In Favor Of Genetically Modified Organisms
There has been a lot of speculation over the hot topic GMOs and whether or not they are actually safe
for indulgence. GMOs is the acronym for Genetically Modified Organisms. It is when something

the planet and for those who dwell on it. In fact, scientists have concluded that Improved food quality
is another benefit associated with GM foods. A tomato, for instance, can be engineered to stay fresher
for longer, thereby extending its shelf life in the supermarket. Food durability will be improved. On
the other hand other sources say that GMOs could potentially harm organisms in the ecosystem, do

Favor of GMOs by: GMO Awareness, say s Without GM foods, warned Dr. Alan McHughen, a
biotechnologist at the University of Saskatchewan who spoke at a conference on agricultural
biotechnology at Cornell University, the earth would not be able to feed the ever growing billions of
people who inhabit it. Harnessing the power of GMO s scientists will be able to grow more food than
ever before at higher yields. It will eventually come to the point where no man on earth will ever go
hungry. Another quote from the article The Argument in Favor of GMOs says For regions of the plant
where there was little rainfall, plants could be made drought resistant. Vitamins could be introduced,
making genetically modified produce nutritious. Crops would be made resilient to pests... With GMO,
plants could be made almost immune from mother natures wrath as well as those dastardly pests. The

The Work Of Louis Pasteur
In the midst of the Industrial Revolution, the son of leather tanners provided the clarity needed to
understand the behavior of microbes and applied this understanding to improve people s daily life.
This man, Louis Pasteur, succeeded in his medical investigations and continued to pursue his interest,
despite objections given to him by his peers. The timeless work of Louis Pasteur in the areas of
chemistry and microbiology provided the necessary foundation for the scientific study of immunology
and stressed the importance of possessing a thorough understanding of the procedures involved in
medical treatment.
Background
On December 27, 1822, Louis Pasteur was born to a family of leather tanners (Lamont, Cohn). As a
child, Pasteur showed no scientific potential whatsoever (Cohn). However, he did have a talent for art,
and it is possible that this particular interest could have influenced his appreciation for detail in his
later years (Lamont). Many of his teachers suggested that he follow in his father s footsteps. As time
progressed, Pasteur developed an interest in the field of science. Starting from this point in his life,
Pasteur demonstrated the characteristic of rising above his expectations. Even though he was the son
of a leather tanner, Pasteur did not give up and live a simple life. Through many strenuous years of
hard work supplemented with encouragement from his father, Pasteur began to study at the French
University. It is here, as Cohn notes, that Pasteur

The Stanley Parable Essay
Mechanics: The Stanley Parable has very limited set of control mechanics. The player is given W,A,S,
and D along with left the mouse and left mouse button. As for color schemes The game goes from
very sterile and warm colored environments, to messy and colorless places. In some of the
environments there are weenies in the form of light that help guide the player along potential paths
that they can make. Dynamics: I felt very at home with the controls in The Stanley parable. It was
pretty much the standard setup for a pc game. The one Control that is missing that I always want to
have but never need is a jump button. One of the things that I noticed about the game was that even

An instance of this was when the narrator and I followed the adventure line and then decided to create
our own path. At the same time if a chose a different path such and the explosion ending the story pit
the narrated and I against each other. Expression The Stanley Parable helped me discover the life that
may be ahead of all of us if we don t take life into our own hands. We could be spending the rest of
our life living the exact day over and over again waiting for excitement to be presented to us. Noone
wants to live in a groundhogs day. I think that when you notice that you don t have the reins to your
own life you become more motivated to make your own excitement. This is why i enjoyed ignoring
everything that the narrator told me to cause the world to collapse or staying the closet. Narrative The
narrative of The Stanley Parable depended heavily on what choices you make throughout the game. If
you make all the wrong choice the narrative turns into your enemy or you can break the world. If you
make all the right choice you get to make it to freedom with a please narrator. The choices or lack
thereof make the narrative of this

Hunting Whales Research
Countries should be permitted to hunt some species of whales. Hunting whales is a tradition that has
been around for hundreds of years. The problem now is that Japan, Norway and even Iceland are are
hunting whales under the pretense of scientific purposes. (The Truth about Scientific , 2016) There
should be an exemption that also has regulation in order to protect the whale population. Each nation
is setting their own standards of how many they can hunt, and if the rest of the world is concerned
with their practices, then coming to a compromise should be something to visualize for the future.
Since Norway and Japan are not cooperation in stopping the hunting of whales, a compromise should

Young people don t get jobs with the fisheries, because it s very hard and doesn t pay well. (Phelan,
2013) It is very important to look at the big picture when it comes to determining the validity of the
Norwegian and Japanese claims. On one hand, the countries should be given the opportunity to reach
a compromise with the international law. On the other, they should also accept where popular opinion
is headed. Like human sacrifices, not every cultural activity is going to stay around forever. To please
everyone, the compromise should be transitional. Eventually, whaling is going to lose its market.

Personal Narrative-Atlantic Way
The days leading up to the fifth of August had been characteristically Irish, complete with clouds in
Connemara, a daylong drizzle in Dingle, and forty mile per hour winds at the Cliffs of Moher (which,
under said conditions, were more deserving of their Princess Bride alias, the Cliffs of Insanity). In
Ireland, the island nation that gifts its western seaboard with 225 days of rain each year, fickle weather
is a fact of life. But now, for eight hours, my family needed the Wild Atlantic Way to tame itself
perhaps, for just one day, the Mild Atlantic Way could suffice?

approach. To the left of me, my mom widened her eyes, a lifelong fear of heights flashing across her
face. The captain didn t need to turn around to know what was happening. From the wheelhouse, he
simply laughed. That s Little Skellig over there. We ve still got a ways to go.
From a distance, Little Skellig could almost be mistaken for a snow capped mountain. Up close,
however, the source of the island s feathery white dusting grows obvious. One of the largest bird
colonies in the world, Little Skellig is an annual breeding ground for more than 20,000 northern
gannets. By no means, however, should you allow the island s name to trick you. Towering over our
boat at a height of 440 feet, Little Skellig is far from little. In Gaelic, the word Sceillic means a
particularly steep rock. Head craned back as we cruised past the first Skellig, etymology didn t elude

Dracula by Bram Stoker and The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe
Any text that is composed is written to fit into the society that it is written for. A genre must evolve
and modernise itself to remain relevant and interesting to the target audience. In The Black Cat by
Edgar Allen Poe and Dracula by Bram Stoker, the composers have both adapted their stories to appeal
the people of their time.
Dracula by Bram Stoker used many of the conventions of the gothic genre to appeal to the Victorian
Society. Stoker used the style of the novel, his characters and the tone to create an enticing text based
on the beliefs of the novel s era.
The tone of the novel Dracula seemed to be fear. Fear is a very common theme in many gothic texts. A

The nails were long and fine, and cut to a sharp point. Upon Jonathon staring out the window, he
inadvertently happens to spy Count Dracula slowly emerge from the window and begin to crawl down
the castle wall over the dreadful abyss, face down with his cloak spreading out around him like great
wings....move downwards with considerable speed just as a lizard moves along a wall. Just after this
Count Dracula brings back a small child to feed to the female vampires, which is the most barbaric
deed that any character could do in a gothic novel. To lose a child was the greatest fear of many
Victorian women, making this crime a truly abominable one.
The many gothic conventions in Dracula played to the morals of the Victorian era to make it both
controversial and acceptable, giving the novel the success it deserved. In comparison, the story The
Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe modernized the gothic genre even further to adapt it to the audience of
the early 19th century. The composer used the questionable sanity of his character and the overtly
violent acts committed by this character, to create an evil that was not embodied as a supernatural
creature, but as a man. He created an idea of the perverse nature of humans to create an evil that was
truly terrifying.
In The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe, the narrator of the story starts to question his own sanity, though
instead of taking responsibility for his own actions he shifted the blame onto the

  • 2. Investigating Reaction Rates of Sodium Thiosulphate and... Investigating Reaction Rates of Sodium Thiosulphate and Hydrochloric Acid Aim: To investigate the rate of reaction of Sodium Thiosulphate and Hydrochloric acid. In this investigation I will be varying the concentration of Sodium Thiosulphate only and not the Hydrochloric acid concentration. In this investigation I will use the following word equation: Sodium Thiosulphate + Hydrochloric acid In this investigation I will use the following symbol equation: Na2S2O3 + Hcl Prediction: I predict that as the Sodium Thiosulphate concentration increases the rate of reaction will also increase. The reason I predict this is because there will be a higher concentration of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The collision theory explains all there is to the rate of reaction. The collision theory states that the rate of reaction depends on how often and how hard the reacting particles collide. Reacting particles need to collide with each other to be able to react. The more collisions there are then the faster the rate of reaction will be. The following methods of increasing the rate of reaction can be explained by increasing the number of collisions between the reacting particles: * Temperature When the temperature is increased in a reaction the particles begin to move around much quicker. This means that when they collide with each other they will collide harder. * Catalyst A catalyst works by giving the reacting particles a surface to stick to on which they can collide with each other on. This also increases the number of collisions between the particles. * Size If one of the reactants is a solid it will have a smaller surface area than a solid that is broken up into smaller pieces. This allows the particles in the solution to have a bigger area to collide in. * Concentration A more concentrated solution means there are more reactant particles moving about amongst the water particles. This makes collisions between the reactant particles more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why The Song Pumped Up Kicks Would you ever think a song about killing people would ever be a top hit in the music industry? Pumped Up Kicks , a popular song that debuted in 2011 by Foster the People is about a psychotic individual who wants to get revenge on the rich people by killing them. Mark Foster, the leading band member of Foster the People wrote Pumped Up Kicks to spread awareness about mental illness. The meaning behind the song is deeper than what is actually said in the lyrics. The song is precisely focusing on the growing trend of mental illness and how it has affected people through the years. When writing this song Mark Foster got inside a psychotic individual s mind to get a better understanding as to why they express their emotions by harming others. Changes should be made in the coming years about mental illness because it s only going to get worse if people keep on ignoring this subject. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the song Mark Foster didn t write about being the victim or about the victim instead he got into a psychotic individual s mind. Robert, Mark Foster s alter ego in the song was strongly motivated to cause harm to people who are higher economic status due to his resentment and anger from past experiences of being an outsider. From reading and listening to this song it seems that he has a negative view for the future and wants to eliminate the wealthy people. There is no actual violence in the song, although in the person s internal mind they are threats. Because he didn t directly say that he was going to kill the rich people it made the song seem less ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on The New Liberal Arts Anh Pham English 101 The New Liberal Arts is an article written by Sanford J. Ungar, who is a president of Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland. In the beginning of his article, Ungar wrote, Hard economic times inevitably bring scrutiny of all accepted ideals and institutions, and this time around the liberal arts education has been especially hard hit. In other words, Ungar means that recent economic recessions have made a huge impact on what people think of going for a liberal arts degree. In his essay, Ungar lists seven misperceptions and how he reacts to them. The most common misperception that Ungar identified is that liberal arts degrees are no longer affordable. The cost for liberal arts education is very expensive while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He wrote, The career bandwagon seems to suggest that shortcuts are available to students that lead directly to high paying jobs leaving out frills like learning how to write and speak well, how to understand the nuances of literacy texts and scientific concepts, how to collaborate with others on research What he means by that is there is no shortcuts to a high paying jobs. He also implies that liberal arts education is the only right way to prepare an individual for their future career because it equips ones with the abilities to write and speak formally, and understandings on scientific matter or how to cooperate with other people for your work, etc. However, I do not think he can deny the fact that the starting salary for a liberal arts graduate is approximately $32,500 while for an engineer is $75,000, (http://www.mtu.edu/engineering/outreach/welcome/salary/). For instant, what can a person possibly do with his philosophy degree right after graduating? He will probably have to go for more schooling before he can find a high paying job at some big firms or he will have to struggle a lot before he can open his philosophy shop or publish his book. In short, a liberal arts degree will take longer to see its worth than career education or vocational training. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Brief Note On An International Environment Agreement Assignment 2: Individual Research Paper on an International Environment Agreement United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification: Empowering Local Populations to the expense of concrete results Introduction The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) was adopted in 1994 as a product of the Rio Conference which took place in 1992. It attempts to combat desertification which is defined as land degradation in arid, semi arid and dry sub humid areas resulting from various factors including climatic variations and human activities. (Marc Johnson, 2006, Chapter 1) Land degradation is a process of reduction or loss of the biological and economic productivity and complexity of cropland, pasture and forest. By nature, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through its dual focus on environment and development, the Convention is seen as the perfect approach to sustainable development. Since its creation, objectives have evolved and now consist in influencing international actors by raising awareness, providing strong policy frameworks in affected countries, enhancing scientific knowledge about desertification, identifying and addressing capacity building. Finally, it also aims to mobilize as well as improve financial resources (Secretariat UNCCD, 2013). Stinger and numerous Conference of Parties (COP) reports highlight the concerning lack of benchmarks and indicators to understand phenomena, monitor convention s impacts and progress as well as evaluate possible strategies. This is mostly a consequence of the absence of means to conduct measurements in affected countries. What are the challenges the Convention is facing? So far, has the UNCCD achieved some its targets? Identify and describe The UNCCD has to deal with many challenges arising from the nature of the environmental problem itself and the structure of the Convention. There is no international consensus on the definition of desertification, nor the possible solutions to revert its effect on land and populations. The conception and interpretation of this process is difficult and therefore hard to implement in national policies. Moreover concrete results are slow to come about, ... • 6. Comparing Huckleberry Finn And The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer A reason why novels such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain are considered some of the best pieces of American literature is because Twain s writing style revolutionized literature. Twain, unlike many authors at the time, chose to write his books in a more realistic perspective of American culture. Shying away from the romantic and transcendentalist techniques is what allowed Twain to become an instant literary giant. Within Mark Twain s works, he successfully captures and illustrates what American life was like in his lifetime. This realistic approach allows people to see the grim and gritty reality of his time period. Today Twain s novels can be perceived as a portal into nineteenth century life. Back then people were desensitized to derogatory slurs and lingos of their time just as we are to our own today. Modern people attempt to protect their children from the harshness and evils of reality, which in turn, leads to censorship. This crusade against political correctness has turned on to The ... Back in Twain s time, people hated the fact he had chosen to create a slave character who had dignity, so much in fact that his book was banned from stores. This parallels the conflict over the same book one hundred years into the future, but now there is a different reason. In The Adventures of HuckleBerry Finn the N word appears an excessive 219 times and has been banned in some schools because the N word was not inclusive and made students uncomfortable (Akkoc). The N word should not be be edited from the book because it would disconnect the reader from the realistic point of view Twain strived to achieve. Through metaphors and allegories, he tries to explain that the death of these musicians was a sad and almost unholy event that he was grieving severely about. In it though he also references things that other musicians did in their lifetimes. In the stanza We all got up to dance/ Oh, but we never got the chance/ Cause the players tried to take the field/ The marching band refused to yield, it in its entirety is an allegory for how the Beatles were trying to make music that you would listen to, but not dance to, and then started writing anti violence songs against the Vietnam protesters, that made some of the protesters question their actions. • 9. Sandy Hearst Argumentative Essay After the trial and listening to the statements of the prosecutors involved, it is now up to the jury to decide what happens in this case. Dana Ivy is said to have been drunk, which resulted in a car accident on the morning of December 17. However, the defensive side says she was not intoxicated and that was not the cause of this accident occurring at the intersection of Justice and Eagle street. This accident resulted in severe injuries to Terry Vickers, the other citizen involved in this accident. Terry Vickers wants to charge Sandy Hearst, the host of a party that occurred on the night of December 16, for the damages. However, if Dana was acting different from all the other guests showing signs of intoxication that is unusual for herself to do, it would be a reliable statement. • 10. Pros And Cons In The Philippines I disagree with this statement, because I believe that no matter how bad the international reputation of a country can be, it can still somehow be remedied through different means. It is false to assume that no amount of PR can help, because it truly can. It is true that crime, corruption, cultural immaturity, and disunity are present in the Philippines. It does not help that the news and media outlets mostly put out negative news and content. However, this should not be the main image that is being portrayed internationally. Although it is not easy to change the Philippines international image, it is not impossible because of PR. PR is really tailored to fit specific situations, and one of them is to invite people to visit a country. Therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The key problem here is that the bad qualities of the Philippines that are most often shown through international news outlets might drive foreigners away. Therefore, the PR message should focus on the integration of the good characteristics that the Philippines can offer. There should be a focus on the beautiful beaches or other places in nature that can only be found in the Philippines. It should focus on how warm and welcoming the Filipino people are. It should focus on how conducive it is for international clients to invest in properties or start up businesses in the Philippines. A good PR message can take away the focus of the foreigners from the bad issues that are prevalent in our country. • 11. Qantas s Pricing Strategy PRICING Prices reflect the unique value of the brand to a certain extent. Brand positioning builds the unique brand image in the minds of consumers, so price setting and adjustments must adapt brand positioning, and brand positioning shows the brand s unique value through price (Kotler, 2013, p. 215). For Qantas, the pricing strategy utilises a cost plus margin method of product pricing, offering lower pricing in accordance to the market demand. The number of travellers requiring Qantas services, prompt the airline to adjust pricing rates accordingly. Qantas Airways provides different prices, to different customers, and combines the price setting with customer needs (Suciu, 2013). The airline uses a full fare policy, for these customers, ... PUBLIC RELATIONS Marketing requires making public relations a priority to attract consumer attention. In turn, the public relations promotional tool remains an important option for raising the Qantas Airways reputation. Public relations, by Qantas, manage publicity directed at financial stakeholders and political bodies, while promoting the company image and brand. As part of the consumer marketing strategy, Qantas use brand ambassadors, as a promotional tool, for both global and domestic markets, increasing the brand value. I agree with that but what she does not acknowledge is that with modern technology there are programs such as, TTM, IXL, and Mobymax, that are made to help students learn in school as well as over summer break. Hurley defines a fallacy as, A defect in an argument that consists in something other than false premises alone. These defects result in misconception in an argument. Many times they are accidental, other times they are committed on purpose. However, either way, fallacies can be very persuasive to the casual reader or listener. In fact, Veggie Love, a super bowl video ad by PETA, claims that vegetarians have better sex. In the video, gorgeous women dressed in lingerie are groping broccoli, asparagus and even a licking a pumpkin. This video commits the false cause fallacy because it expresses that people are having great sex because they are vegetarians. In addition, if a person wants to have great sex, they need to become a vegetarian. It is also possible that an argument commit more than one fallacy at a time. This video also commits the hasty generalization fallacy, because it states that if you eat vegetables you will have great sex with gorgeous women, therefore the obvious conclusion is that all vegetarians have great sex! To tell these two different types of fallacies apart a reader or listener must know what defines these two types of fallacies. Because Veggie Love focuses on vegetarians and great sex, and PETA claims that there is a causal connection between the two, it can be defined as a false cause fallacy. The prevalence of pressure ulcers for spinal cord injury patients can reach up to 95% and for many it can be a recurrent problem. The article that I have chosen to review sets out to compare ultraviolet C versus a placebo ultraviolet C and how each effect the wound healing process for a spinal cord injury patient. The main outcome measures were the percent area of the wound compared to baseline area of the wound. As the wound decreased in size it is theoretically assumed that the wound is healing. The central concepts of the study were based on ultraviolet C positive effects on wound healing in vitro. In vitro studies effects include; modification of growth factors, fibronectin release from fibroblast, epidermal cell proliferation, killing of pathogens, accelerated DNA synthesis, and antibiotic resistant organisms. This study hypothesized that ultraviolet C would contribute as a statistically significant effective intervention for the treatment of pressure ulcers in spinal cord injury patients. A previous study in the 1990s showed ultraviolet C to be effective in pressure ulcers for spinal cord injury patients versus a nursing care control group. This previous study failed to show a statistical significance and failed to account for drop outs within the control group. • 15. Social Discrepancies Of Titanic, By James Cameron Social Discrepancies of Titanic Proportions James Cameron s renowned film Titanic is more than just a love story, and more than a mere portrayal of the tragic sinking of the unsinkable ship; it is a representation of the socioeconomic disparities between the haves and the have nots during the early 1900s. As explained by Levinson (2012), Edwardian era society was based on a social hierarchy dictated by wealth and social class; specifically, the Titanic s passengers were divided into three classes, determined not only by the price of their ticket, but by their wealth and social position (150). This socioeconomic class division is evident through the film s plot in which Jack Dawson, a jobless, lower class American who wins his way onto the RMS Titanic, shares an inter socioeconomic class relationship with upper class Rose DeWitt Bukater. This storyline allows for overlaps between the first and third class, and ultimately depicts the ideology of Outsiders versus Insiders (LCR). Outlined in the Left Center Right Model for identifying ideologies, Outsiders versus Insiders is an ideology where a left wing view identifies with the poor and disenfranchised, also know as the Outsiders, and the right winged view identifies with the Establishment and people in power, or the Insiders (LCR). Titanic represents the outsider oriented perspective on social class through the difference between first and third class environments, the neglect given towards the third class, ... How Does Tim O Brien Use Syntax In The Things They Carried By using syntax, repetition, and evidence, Tim O Brien builds an argument to convey the reality that the soldiers in the Vietnam War had something to carry, both physically and emotionally. In The Things They Carried , O Brien uses syntax to arrange his sentences in order to show the harsh correlation between the weight of real and mental possessions. For example, O Brien first introduces the 30 pound PRC scrambler radio, then immediately follows with the weight of memory. Bringing this exploration into the classroom is the focus of this lesson. It is created to both allow for investigation and to present their discoveries to others and share what they learned on their expedition. With educational funding as it is today it is difficult to take students out of the classroom setting to explore their world so it is up to teachers to creatively find ways to incorporate the outside world into the classroom. Using technology, students imagination and a few objects of interest you can construct a world of discovery in your own classroom. Through this lesson I have ... Kilfoye used his research to take a look into the deficits of the school system and their lack of technological advancements within the education system. Both Dewey in 1899 and Kilfoye in 2013 recognized these deficits (Kilfoye, 2013). By allowing students to use such technologies as the internet, smart boards, smartphones and other devices that are available will allow students to become familiar with the workings of technology. In this unit students use google maps to represent their trips and their findings, use the smart board for presentations and virtual field trips and they use tables and phones to find and create images for their discoveries. The 1915 debate in the New Republic between John Dewey and David Snedden laid out the moral, ethical, and industrial challenges of this discussion, one that continues to resonate among educators today (Braundy, 2004). This discussion was about the development of free public schooling for all students and if it was the future occupations or the education that was of most importance. Of course Dewey felt as though it was the education was that important. Focusing on the current issues in education and fulfilling those before moving on to employment (Braundy, 2004). Moreover, the number of clients who have received services simply identifies the number of clients who proceeded through the program. Outcomes identify the changes, impact, or benefits of the clients both during and after the program. For example, an outcome may be for clients to stop drinking in an alcohol program. Individuals should be aware that outcomes are different from outputs, for an example, the amount of clients who pass through a program. (Lewis, Packard amp; Lewis, 2006) The changes or outcomes can be conveyed in the following terms. First knowledge, and skills outcomes are thought of as short term outcomes. Then behaviors are included, which weigh up as intermediate term outcomes. Additionally, values, conditions, and status are changes and outcomes, which reflect long term outcomes. Furthermore, the number and percent of participants the department wants to accomplish the outcome is the outcome target. For example, 1,500 teens (10% of teens) quit drinking over the next year is an outcome goal. (McNamara, n.d.) Outcome indicators are observable and measurable milestones one achieves toward his or her outcome target. What the individual sees, reads, and hears would specify whether he or she is making progress toward his or her target outcome. The creature kills William, Henry Clerval, and Elizabeth. Victor had promised to make a female creature for the creature, but he did not fulfill his promise. This makes the creature enraged. The creature runs away and Victor follows him. Victor gets on a boat with Walton. Victor dies and the creature comes and is very sad that his creator has died. In another letter to her sister Fanny, on June 1st 1816, Mary wrote: The thunder storms that visit us are grander and more terrific than I have ever seen before. We watch them as they approach from the opposite side of the lake, observing the lightning play among the clouds in various parts of the heavens, and dart in jagged figures upon the heights of Jura, dark with the shadow of the overhanging could, while perhaps the sun is shining cheerily upon us. (Phillips 3) Many of Mary Shelley s ideas came from nature. A storm similar to this one was seen by victor. She uses this storm to describe how Victor sees the creature. Victor thinks the creature is violent at times and beautiful at others. In addition, the creature causes destruction like an avalanche. Shelley writes, In a thousand spots the traces of the winter avalanche may be perceived, where trees lie broken and strewed on the ground; some entirely destroyed, others bent, leaning upon the rocks of the mountain or transversely upon other trees. The Political Background Of Hobby Well first off, I d like to say that having never really been all that interested in politics, analyzing the life of a politician wasn t exactly something I felt too enthusiastic to delve into. Having said all that, my intrigue in understanding the political background of Hobby picked up right from page #1 in the book. Being a first generation American in my family with direct roots to the small fairly new nation of Bangladesh and being a New York native myself, I ve never really thought of how much a connection one such as Hobby must have with a state or a land to truly become immersed in its realm of politics. Dating back to the Civil War, Hobby s ancestors both provided service to the Texan republic from Major Alfred Marmaduke Hobby of the Eighth Texas Confederate Infantry Regiment to Captain of Company D Edwin E. Hobby. The Marmaduke s have made a great impact on Texas ever since, with Major Marmaduke rejecting Union Lt. Kittredge s demand to inspect government buildings as well as retaliating against the Union ship USS Arthur itself through open fire and Edwin Hobby going onto becoming a district judge within the Livingston and Polk counties respectively. Bill Hobby s very own father; Will Hobby went from being the president of the Houston Post to Lieutenant Governor of Texas. Building Face Composites Can Harm Lineup Identification... 1: Briefly describe the aim(s) of the study: In the extract the authors state that the aim of the experiment was to determine if the composite building process could harm (or alter) the builder s remembrance of a face in a lineup identification situation. The study also seems to have a number of secondary aims with the two experiments using still photos in the lineup in experiment #1 and the eyewitnesses watching a replicated crime video in its place of still photos for experiment #2. The 2nd experiment also questions what will happen if the witness views a lineup that does not contain the actual target, whereas in the first experiment the target was always in the lineup. 2: Indicate whether or not the study was theoretically motivated: The introduction segment of the article delivers substantial review of the literature that has driven the study. A person s view can differ depending on whether you look at compensation from the perspective of a member of society, a stockholder, a manager, or an employee. Everyone is different. For example, an employee may have a different idea of what compensation is when compared to a stockholder. An employee may see compensation as a return in exchange between their employer and themselves, as an entitlement for being an employee of the company, or as a reward for a job well done. A stockholder on the other hand would have a different point of view. Stockholders are interested in how employees are paid and some believe that using stock to pay employees creates a sense of ownership that will improve performance which will in turn increase stockholder wealth. In the Center every door must be locked at all times. This prevents strangers from walking into the building and taking a child, as well as allowing the teachers inside to see the person before they come into the room. The Epic of Gilgamesh served to show us a lot of things. The time period of BCE is very blurry, and this story attempts to describe many different things in not only Sumerian beliefs, but also Sumerian s culture as a whole. The architecture in Mesopotamia are considered to have been contemporary with the founding of the Sumerian cities, but there was some complexity in the architectural design during this Protoliterate period (c. 3400 c. 2900 BC). This is shown in the design of many religious buildings. Typical temples of the Protoliterate period both the platform type and the type built at ground level are, however, much more elaborate both in planning and ornament. The interior was decorated with cones sunk into the wall, covered in bronze. Most cities were simple in structure, but the ziggurat was one of the world s first complex architectural structures. • 41. Gonadotropins Research Paper Injectable Fertility drugs (gonadotropins) What are gonadotropins? Gonadotropins are injectable fertility medications, containing follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) alone or combined with luteinizing hormone (LH). During a natural menstrual cycle, both FSH and LH are produced by the pituitary gland in the brain to naturally stimulate the ovaries to produce a single egg each month. When FSH (with or without LH) is given as an injection, it works directly on the ovaries to make multiple follicles (cysts containing eggs). Gonadotropins are used during fertility treatments such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilization (IVF). Injections of gonadotropins are started early in the menstrual cycle to cause multiple eggs to grow to a mature size. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), another injectable medication, is then used to trigger the release of the eggs when they are mature. Close monitoring of patients with ultrasound who are using these medications is advised in order to minimize the side effects and risks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
