Haiti s Independence from France Came at a Cost Essay
Introduction
The country known now as Haiti emerged as the first black republic in the world
and the second nation in the Western hemisphere to win its independence from a
European power following their declaration of Independence on January 1, 1804.
Prior to this historic event, Haiti was the richest and wealthiest colony on the
planet; a colony that the French empire relied heavily on economically. As a result
of the French Revolution, Haitians began feeling a sense of revolt in the way that if
the French can do it, so can they. Soon enough, this group of slaves that everyone
saw as a garbage peoples worthy of absolutely nothing, the impossible happened: Haiti
became an independent nation. Not only was its occurrence significant, but so ...

With the reading comprehension that he just attained, Toussaint became inspired by
the French philosophers of The Enlightenment. The writings of Jean Jacques
Rousseau were the major inspirations of L Ouverture, and lead him towards the way
of fighting for freedom and abolishment of slavery from the colony. With this in
mind, the slave revolt broke loose and Toussaint, now an old slave at the age of 45,
quickly took control over his own plantation. Just by this action, L Ouverture
realized that there is a chance for something more to be obtained. Toussaint set out to
build a disciplined fighting force, so he arrived to the camps of the other rebels,
found rebels faced with starvation, leaders with no plans for defeating the troops, and
commanders with a loss of heart. He quickly started building his army with those that
he found and recruited a few hundred others so that he could turn onto the offensive.
The year of 1799, when the French Revolution ended, was also the birth of the
reign of one of the most strategic generals in history Napoleon Bonaparte. Since the
revolution ended in France, Napoleon could now focus on the revolt of France s
former colony: Haiti. Averting his attention there, he quickly dispatched his brother
in law and French general Charles Leclerc along with an expeditionary of warships
and soldiers to take back Haiti. Also, he secretly gave instructions to restore slavery

Between Serpents Of Paradise By Edward Abbey And
Thinking...
The difference between Serpents of Paradise by Edward Abbey and Thinking Like
a Mountain by Aldo Leopold is specifically that one essay focuses more on the
hunting aspect of life. Both essays seem to care about the environment. In Abbey s
essay he tries to figure out how to avoid killing the snake; he needed to stay calm
and move it without getting bit. In Leopold s essay he killed a wolf to save the
deer population; allowing him to hunt more deer. Each essay was written with great
description, yet showing one author cared more about the animal and its
environment over the other. In both Leopold and Abbey essays they wanted to alter
their environment, but only Abbey succeeded due to Abbey having the correct
knowledge when it came to his environment. The authors have two clearly different
environments and describes them in diverse ways. Abbey writes about his
surroundings as a bright, clear, calm April morning. He changed his description in
the afternoon as the wind begins to blow, raising dust and sand in funnel shaped
twisters that spin across that desert briefly, like dancers, and then collapse elements
under stress (52). While Leopold writes about his experience with on a mountain as
a deep chesty ball echoes from rimrock to rimrock, rolls down the mountain, and
fades into the far blackness of the night (49). People, in general, care more about the
environment as it comes to their careers. Abbey and Leopold have careers which has
involved them in their specific
Essay on Edgar Degas and his influence on the art of Mary...
Mary Stevenson Cassatt s Miss Mary Ellison (1880) and Edgar Hilaire Germain
Degas s Mademoiselle Malo (1877) are two paintings that, when compared and
contrasted, shows numbers of influences that Degas had on Mary Cassatt s art. Both
of these paintings are portraits done in tbe standard Вѕ point of view. Even at a mere
glance, it is easy to see the striking similarities between the two portraits. It is not too
farfetched to assume that Degas had a lot of influence on Mary Cassatts work because
it is known that he was one of her biggest inspirations (Wallis, 14). Furthermore, even
within the Impressionist group the bond that Degas and Cassatt shared was an
important one to her, since she looked up to him as a model artist (Englemann, 80)....

At around 1877 She was invited to s stop submitting her artwork to the salon and
instead join and submit with the independents/impressionist s group by Edgar
Degas (Mathews, 35). She was also the only American female artist to exhibit with
the Impressionists. Edgar Degas was a Parisian painter; much like Cassatt, his
father was also a wealthy banker (Wallis, 18). He was born in 1832 (Spate, 6) His
father, the banker, was also an avid art collector; this helped stimulate the Degas s
interest in art at an early age (Wallis, 19) Like Cassatt, his family was from the
higher middle class, and as such he was raised to be a cultivated, cultured, Parisian
social elite (Spate, 6). However, unlike Cassatt, Degas did not originally study art;
he studied law. In 1853 he received his baccalaureate and according to his father s
wishes studied law (Wallis, 18). Eventually his father agreed to let Degas study art
and so he did. Before joining up with the Impressionist, Degas mostly vested his time
into classically themed paintings and portraiture (Wallis, 20). Eventually, he was one
of the first to exhibit with the impressionists (he participated in the first
impressionist exhibition in 1874). Eventually, he participated in the first
impressionist exhibition in 1874 along the sides of Renoir, Monet, Morisot,
Pissarro, CГ©zanne, and Sisley (Spate, 13). The two paintings Miss Mary Ellison

Predictive Analysis Of Predictive Analysis, An Integral...
Predictive Analysis is an integral part of any business with its major role in all
dimensions of the business decision making processes. Prediction helps in
understanding the customer better and managing customer relationships in an
efficient way. Understanding the customer is the most important part of the business
process as it impacts the potential growth in business and the success of any business
decision, be it a drastic or a minor change.
For instance, a product launch can be strategically planned using predictive analytics,
if we know our customers better. The sales and the marketing teams work closely
with analysts and data scientists to understand how well the historical data can

These models are often used to understand customer behaviors in detail.
Businesses want to understand what kind of products the customers are likely to buy,
who are the loyal customers who keep coming back for re purchasing similar or other
products, what other products are our loyal customers interested in, what are the
potential marketing campaigns which could help us attract customers who are similar
to the existing high value customers, and so on.
A few applications of Predictive Models:
The most important customer analytic areas and the state of the art methodologies
are as follows.
(1)Customer attrition analysis
Predicting customer attrition is one of the major areas in customer analytics.
Businesses have the need to continuously monitor and understand customer behavior
and their expectations, in order to have an edge over the competitors. It makes no
practical sense to not know whether the customers are staying with the company or
do they have a risk of attrition, due to various controllable and uncontrollable factors.
It is extremely essential for any business to retain the existing customers and
resolving any pressing issues in a timely manner. Retaining a customer is as
important, if not more, as attracting new customers.
a.Attrition Risk Modeling:
This is performed to predict the attrition risk for different customers/customer

A Brief Note On Lujo Hemorrhagic Fever
Lujo Hemorrhagic Fever is caused by a bi segmented negative RNA virus that is
one of the several viruses known to cause viral hemorrhagic fever. The Lujo virus is
part of the Arenaviridae family, that consist of several viruses categorized into two
primary groups. The Lujo virus is categorized in the Old World group, which signifies
that the virusin question was discovered in the Eastern Hemisphere, specifically in
Africa. The majority of the arenaviruses that are categorized in the Old World
group do not cause severe illness, with the exception of a few including the Lassa
and Lujo virus. As of 2012, the Lujo virus is classified as a select agent as it is
distinguished to possess the potential to severely threaten the US public s health and
safety when the mortality rate and modes of transmission is taken into consideration.
Lujo Hemorrhagic Fever at the time being has been reported in five patients, in the
time span ranging from September to October in 2008. The cases originated in
Southern Africa, in the cities of Lusaka and Johannesburg. The cities are the basis
for the naming of the virus; the first two letters of both cities were utilized to name
the virus. The first patient, a 36 year old female in Lusaka was reported to be
infected with the Lujo virus prior to September 2nd. Symptoms manifested on said
day, and the patient was admitted to a clinic on the sixth day of the illness; Patient
one expired on illness day 10. No source of infection was determined,
Meaning Of Metaphysical Poetry
INTRODUCTION The word meta means after and so in simple terms ,
metaphysical means after physical . Metaphysics cover a wide range of topics from
religious to consciousness. It is all about exploration and philosophy. Samuel Johnson
first coined the term metaphysical poetry in his book lives of the most eminent
English poets. Metaphysical poetrycan be divided broadly in two parts. They are
love poems and religious poems. The habit of writing both these type of poetry is
derived from John Donne , who in his first phase of life wrote love poems in during
his later life wrote religious poems. The metaphysical poetsare known for their ability
to surprise the reader with the help of conceit, paradoxical images, colloquial
language,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example in the poem, The definition of love , the poet makes a series of
paradoxical assertions that pose a riddle. It invites the reader to identify the nature
of the love of which its speaks. The early stanza suggest love for god. The second
half is related to love between man and woman.
We can also see allegory in Marvell s poetry. One such example is Bermudas .
Bermuda is an allegorical poem of forty iambic tetrameters rhyming in couplets.
The poem is in 3 parts a four line introduction describing a small boat; a central
section of 32 lines consisting of the song sung by the sailors on the boat , in which
the Bermudas are represented as an earthly eden and again a four line conclusion.
Bermuda is an island in the West Indies. They were often referred to as earthly
paradise in the early seventeenth century. Again the image from the small boat to
the song plays with two traditions. A) In Homer s Odyssey , Odysseus is advised
that if he wishes to sail past the sirens safely he must plug his men s ears with the
help of wax and have himself tied to the mast so that he is not seduced by the
charm of their choices. B) In Petrarchan lyrics, a man s life is often likened to a ship
sailing through storms until he can reach the harbor the love of his mistress
Abraham and Moses Essay
Abram is presented to us as an old man without an offspring or heir. He is at the
age of seventy five when God comes to him with the offer of the covenant.
Abraham stands for devotion, justice, compassion, faith, tact, and personal integrity.
He is also seen as cunning, humorous, and pragmatic throughout the story. Abram is
a man looking for his faith, and God asks Abram to leave his land and kinship to a
land which God will show him. In exchange for Abram s faith and compliance, God
will make of Abram a great nation, make his name great, bless those who bless him
and curse those who curse him, and finally all the communities of the Earth will find
blessing in him.
The covenant is a basic understanding between Abram and God that ... Show more

Abraham found out that this was God s final test before the covenant was finalized.
God told Abraham that all his people must look to God as their god, and that all the
boys must be circumcised on the eighth day after their birth. If Abraham would fulfill
his part of the covenant, God would provide Abraham with the lands of Canaan.
Abraham must have faith in God throughout his journey because the God he speaks
to asks him to leave his lands and kinsfolk to go to a promised land that Moses has
never seen nor heard much about. God promises Abraham many things which were
unbelievable or impossible without divine intervention, so Abraham s faith is always
being tested. Abraham knows that his legacy will never continue without an heir, so
his faith lets him continue and believe that he will still have a son even after he has
aged so much. Another reason why Abraham must have faith is that the people
following him have faith in Abraham. If at any time Abraham loses faith, he will not
only risk breaking the covenant with God, but he will also be letting down all the
people who had faith in him.
The story of Abraham changed the way the Hebrew people thought about time. The
Hebrew people began to think of time as cyclical. Each cycle was begun with the
promise of what is to come, and ended with the fulfillment of this promise and the
need of a new promise. This fits in with the stories of the Prophets, as the coming of
Abraham and Moses can be
Social Inequality In The United States
Social inequality comes in many forms including things such as income, race,
gender, and wealth. It is something we can see in everyday life, yet there are some
people that don t seem to think it exists, or it at least isn t anything that they need
to be concerned about because they re doing just fine. I believe that they are wrong
and that inequality affects us all in one way or another. It is something that we need
to come to grips with and deal with as a society and is not a problem that can be
solved on an individual basis.
Income inequality has come to the front as an issue over the past few years due to
low wage workers demanding a raise in the minimum wage. While the United States
remains one of the richest countries in the world, ... Show more content on

Supposedly our system is progressive , which means that it is taxing higher
incomes at higher rates, but with all of the loopholes and tax breaks that those at
the top can work around, a lot of the lower classes actually end up paying more of a
percentage of their income in taxes. Sales taxes and payroll taxes also hit those
income levels harder because, again, those end up being a larger amount of their
total income. For example, Kansas now has one of the nation s highest sales tax
rates, at 6.5%, in the nation. Many localities have additional local taxes on top of
that, making the total tax rate upwards of 10% in some places. (Kansas
Department of Revenue, 2015). A 10% sales tax is going to make life a lot harder
for someone who only brings home $600 a month than it is on someone who brings
home $4000 a month. Regressive taxes like this tend to hit the lower and middle
class harder so, if we want to improve income inequality we can move to reduce
those. At the federal level, congress can move to implement policies like I mentioned,
along with others that would make the system fairer and distribute wealth a little more
Hebraic Monarchy In Israel
The year of approximately 1051 B.C. of the United Kingdom Period of Israel was
a significant year in that it was marked by a shift in the Hebrew view of God and
his position over their nation (Hindson and Yates, 2010). For centuries prior to this
date, the Hebrew people not only dwelled under the theocratic institutes of Yahweh,
but for a time, also viewed him as their supreme leader and judge (Johnson, 2012). By
around 1051 B.C., however, the Hebrew mindset had altered, and desiring to imitate
the surrounding nations, the Hebrews demanded that a monarchy be established over
them (Hindson and Yates, 2010). The ultimate result was the founding of the Hebraic
monarchy under the first three kings of Israel: Saul, David, and Solomon. Tragically,

For a brief time, Solomon followed in the footsteps of his father, and exemplified
righteousness, wisdom, and spiritual fervor in every action he undertook. As a result
of his actions, the Lord blessed his endeavors and the kingdom of Israel thrived and
prospered under his jurisdiction. However, Solomon had one great weakness: a
love of women. Due to this obsession with women, Solomon took many wives,
most of whom were pagan and had no love for Yahweh or his statues (Maller,
2011). Sadly, his love for his many pagan wives gradually led Solomon astray,
resulting in his adoption of much of their pagan religious views (1 Kings 11:3 6).
Although he is described as still acknowledging the Lord, his heart was no longer
as devoted to the will of God as it had formerly been, and Jehovah Jireh had become
only one out of the host of other gods to be worshiped (Hindson and Yates, 2010).
The Lord, displeased and grieved by Solomon s infidelity, warned Solomon that as
a result of his ungodliness and unfaithfulness, his kingdom would be torn from his
descendants and given to another. That is, his land would be divided and bestowed
upon another individual not of the house of David and the once united nation of
Israel, would now fall prey to great disunity, incessant war, and bitter rivalries, all as
a result of Solomon s failure to maintain an upright spirit before his God (Maller,

Comparing Smartphones with The Matrix
There is an ever increasing amount of computer users today. However, even the age
old desktop is being, superseded with smartphones. These smartphones have the
ability to gather user information: such as location and are selling it to marketers. Yet
with the increasing information and technology available to us, the notion that we
are losing our individualism increases. The increasing information is beginning to
leave our subconscious susceptible to being controlled by the powerful.
Some large retail outlets are starting to gather people s personal information, by
tricking their customers to sign up for cards that offer customers small incentives for
swiping them every time they purchase items at their checkout. In America, this is ...

The only way out for someone in the Matrix, was to be freed, by someone not directly
plugged in. For example when Morpheus offered the red and blue pills, he was
essentially giving Neo his first ever taste of free will because Morpheus was not
directly plugged in, making him exempt from the Architects control.
The Orwellian society as shown in the Matrix also shows us where we may be
heading. Today we are seeing technology advance at a faster and faster pace. The
ways in which they gather personal information are growing at an even quicker
rate. News Companies, such as Seven News, are creating applications so they can
now cheaply distribute the latest news (Propaganda) straight to people who have
downloaded their application. Rupert Murdock has taken things further using
social media sites like Facebook to distribute news at an even cheaper price. This
allows people to like his company s Facebook page then the news his thoughts will
be on their Facebook wall every day. As long as the human brains decisions rely on
outside information such as news, there may never be free will .
The play Frankenstein shows, written by Mary Shelly, shows the early stages of
technology and how it changes individualism. Frankenstein goes against social norm
and tries to make life or as others called it Playing God . Frankenstein neglects what
he had created because he expected his creation to look like an angel.

It comes as no surprise that online dating websites have been increasingly created to
suit certain social groups with particular things in common, such as Christians, pet
lovers, vegetarians, and even the wealthy, the fact that there are now a variety of
dating website that are particularly geared towards making contact with other
people who suffer from STIs or Herpes, more specifically, for the purpose of dating!
Often these websites, provide an excellent forum for meeting other people seeking a

Of course, being diagnosed with an STI can be a harrowing experience, but joining

confidence booster! These websites are an ideal choice of a dating tool for those
who have been diagnosed with Herpes, who plan to date others, who are also

because people you meet on these websites are already infected.

Wallachia, which means the same) in three different occasions which nowadays

The last think I want to talk about in this essay is about the movie Bram Stoker s
Dracula from the director Francis Ford Coppola. At the beginning of this movie, it
is explained how the character of Dracula became a vampire and it is said that he

the Christian world. What s more, in the scene where Dracula welcomes Jonathan

Harker asks the Count who is the man on the picture and he tells him that it is an
ancestor of him from the order of the Dragon.

The Performance Factor As My Dependent Variable
The Performance factor as my dependent variable in this research proposal can be for
each of the boxers utilizing the orthodox/southpaw position, observing the quantity of
triumphs against an orthodox/southpaw adversary.
Age: the average age for an active professional boxer ranges from 22 40 years
Opponent s stance: this could either be southpaw or orthodox yet this data directs the
choice of evaluating performance in a boxing match (win/lose/draw).
Ratings or Rankings: base on the rule that a boxer has been dormant for over a year,
won t be incorporated into the rankings, unless he has a match formally booked.
Every boxer is positioned on the outcomes they have accomplished in their own
particular weight division. A boxer can t be positioned in a particular weight division
until he has contended in that division..
Diverse/Different weight classes: Separating boxers into divisions guarantees
reasonable BOUTS. For instance, a contender who measures more than 200 pounds
has more drive behind his punch, while a boxer who weighs 140 pounds will
probably be quicker and more light footed than the heavier boxer. While weight
classes were initially isolated into eight divisions, the confining classes today are
separated to 17 divisions, permitting contenders to be all the more unequivocally
coordinated with their weight partners.
Number of fights involved: Mileage in boxing is not controlled by matches, but
rather by harm sustained. So 5 dangerous battles may be a boxer s whole

Globalization Is A Major Point Of Negativity
Globalization is defined in many ways. Globalization generally refers to the
expansion of global communications, growing social and political interdependence
and the development of a planetary rather than national awareness among many of
the world s people (Anderson, 98). The process of globalization is allowing people
from all over the world be more interconnected with one another. The process is
seen in many different ways. Our clothing is no longer made in the United States,
today we look at the tags and see Made in Indonesia or Product of Venezuela . Many
companies such as Microsoft, Nike, and Wal Mart are reaching people in places that
were not considered feasible markets only 30 years ago. Globalizationhas been a
subject to controversy by both the richest and the poorest of countries. Outsourcing
is a major point of negativity in this new interconnected world. Many jobs are lost
from workers in the developed nations and sent to developing nations who will
supply workers for less.
There are many causes of globalization. We cannot put our finger on any one
particular change in our culture that has led to the larger interconnectedness of
nations. Globalization has been around for a long time, going back to mercantilism of
the 16th through 18th centuries. Today s vast globalization may be attributed to the
formation of the United Nations in 1945. Along with the United Nations, the creation
of the World Trade Organization has accelerated this trend with trade
Acting And Then It s Just Not Acting Analysis
Stepping into the assignment I was immediately opted to google random quotes and
find one that I felt I could understand the best. Upon my scrolling I stumbled upon a
quote by Johnny Depp. Yes, Johnny Depp not Shakespeare or Marlow like most
people would assume. The quote is: With any part you play, there is a certain amount
of yourself in it. There has to be, otherwise it s just not acting. It s lying. This quote
struck me as intriguing and made me rethink my perspective on acting. The main
concept of the quote is to be yourself otherwise you are lying not only to yourself
but to your audience. The quote also sheds light on the concept discussed in class
where we need to represent parts of our personality in acting. We could try and mimic
an actorbut it would not be our own work. After contemplating all of these meanings
I began to brainstorm the numerous possibilities of how his quote distinguishes

I visually see the actors in their characters and connect the two together. What I
mean is I cannot imagine anyone else as the joker besides Heath Ledger partly not
only because of his acting skills but the way he interpreted the joker. Depp s quote
illustrates that it s important to show who you are because it not only makes your
acting better, but memorable. The audience goes in with certain expectations. They
except to be drawn into the play and moved by the pool of emotions a character is
displaying. If an actor s performance is not genuine and unique people will be
disappointed. The actor would be lying and also be a copycat. For example: if Chris
Evans for some reason liked Ledger s impression of the joker so much he decided to
mimic it in a new batman movie the audience would say Hey he s trying to be just
like Heath, we ve seen this already! This is so
The Relationship Between Pets And Children
A study conducted by a child psychologist in New Mexico, exploring the
relationship between pets and children, was published in 2000. This study
specifically looked at the effect that dog ownership had on 10 to 12 years old
children. The researcher, Robert E. Bierer, Ph.D., was surprised at the difference in
empathy and self esteem between preadolescents who owned a dogand those who did
not. Bierer s conclusions indicate that pet ownership has a statistically significant
impact on self esteem and sensitivity towards others. He noted that teachers,
parents, and other children have expectations for a child to fulfill. A pet has no
such measures of success or failure; acceptance is total, which provides a sense of
self worth. Furthermore, raising pets lets kids be more sensitive to observe other s
subtle feelings. They start to develop a sense of feel towards other people around
them and they are more apt to seeing if they are sad or happy. In this way, kids are
likely to become more considerate and caring.
When it comes to the question why pet ownership can affect our kid s characteristic
development, this article, Do Owners and Their Dogs Have Similar Personalities,
which was posted in the website Psychology Today, may shed some light on the
issue. The writer of the article, Stanley Coren, cited a recent study by BorbГЎla
TurcsГЎna which attempted to look at the similarity between the personalities of
owners and their dogs using the most commonly accepted personality
Comparison Of Short And Long Term Memory
Inside out Paper
After a memory is created it is important to know how our brain stores these
memories (Mohs, 2007). In this paper, the importantance of comparing short term
memory to long term memory will be analyzed. Throughout life we have millions of
memories, but the different steps of short and long term memory help us filter those
memories (Mohs, 2007). As our brain sorts through the memories to preserve, it
begins the process of filtering them from short to long term. Short term memory is
held for short periods of time before being discarded or moved to long term memory.
Short term memory is also referred to as working memory. When additional
information is added to the basic thought or short term memory it is then transferred
into long term memory. Long term memory is the final step in retaining information
for longer periods of time (Rahtus, 2010).
Short term memory is gathered and used for brief amounts of time. As a result, it
will decline rapidly from our brain within a few moments. Items can be retained in
short term memory when strategies such as rehearsal are implemented (Ruthus,
2010). Daily routines including: school, work and, play involve short term memory.
Southtree states, that people have an average of 70,000 thoughts during our wake
and sleep cycles (Macco s, 2017). Our brain immediately begins to filter these
thoughts to forget or to use in short term. As Riley initially began looking at her
room, she started to place her furniture in the space
A Study On Norwich University Essay
Norwich University Norwich University is a military college located in Vermont.
This private university is the oldest military college in the country. The university
was founded in the early 1800 s and was followed by only five other military
colleges. The Department of Defense recognizes Norwich University as the birthplace
of the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC). Norwich University creates a
supportive learning environment by maintaining an average student faculty ratio of
one to 12. The Academic Achievement Center employs professionals who regularly
connect with students to offer academic, study skills and social networking support.
Norwich University does not employ teaching assistants, so instructors offer better
quality classes. Norwich University s student body is predominately made up of
military personnel, veterans and family, but civilian students are completely
integrated in the classrooms and in extracurricular activities. Civilian and pre military
students, such as those from the Corps of Cadets program, have separate residences.
Norwich University offers over 30 academic programs, 20 varsity sports teams and a
large amount of clubs and organizations for students. They have nationally
recognized academic programs and departments. This includes the nationally
recognized David Crawford School of Engineering, the Army ROTC approved

Maintaining Records And Reports Essay
Understanding How To Maintain Records And Reports Records and reports are a
legal requirement. In the setting you will have to maintain a range of records and
reports to promote and support health and safety. Accuracy and Coherence All the
information in the setting about children, their families and staff is confidential.
Parents, carers and staff have a right to know what information is being held about
them and how it will be used. All staff working in the setting have a duty of care to
obtain information with regard to the rights of individuals and to not share
information without consent. Any personal information you gather about the
children must be accurate and up to date if it is to be of use in protecting their health
and safety... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the act is clear on how data can or cannot be used, consent does not have
to be given before passing on information if there are concerns that a child may be
been abused. However, confidentiality must still be observed and information must
only be passed to those who need to know, such as the professional with child
protection responsibility in the setting and in social services. A lot of the personal
and sensitive information kept about children needs to be easily accessible as it is
in constant use. For example, care plans need to be referred to frequently. Even so,
this information must be kept secure and never left around the setting for others to
read. If information is left around this will break down the trust between parent and
setting, making parents less willing to share information, this could put children at
risk. The principles in the 1998 act do not state how data is to be kept, just it must
be safe and secure. The setting s policies and procedures set out how this will be
done. Written records must be kept in locked, hard to access cabinets. Today a lot
of confidential information is kept electronically, so safe, password protected
systems are vital for accessing or passing on information. *Information taken from

Feminism addresses and recognizes the struggles often underwent by women of the
past. Unfortunately, women s historical struggles and lived experiences in the
domestic sphere and private sectors of life have been erased from public awareness.
Their realities often went unnoticed as they were not considered as legitimate in
contrast to those experiences of their male counterparts. In response to this,
Gynocentric Feminists attempted to tackle these inequalities and have since then

In her work, Butler examines earlier forms of feminism and their frequent use of
social constructions of binary gender ideals. Butler maintains her argument that
feminists in particular should abandon this idea of sharing this universal common
gender identity (Seidman, 216). Butler is very critical of this perspective because she
finds that it undermines the experiences of all women and generalizes them into one
cohesive experience. In this sense, feminism is essentially reinforcing binary gender
ideals by feminists identifying themselves solely as women they are only
perpetuating social productions of gender that have been constructed through a male
dominated context. Although feminism is uniting women through this sense of
sharing a common identity that distinguishes them from their male counter part, it
also however, misinterprets and generalizes the experiences of women while
simultaneously excluding and discrediting other women. Evidently, according to
Butler s argument abiding by a unitary gender identity, rejects any other sexuality
and regards them as deviant and improper to the norm. (Seidman, 217). It is often
difficult to abandon such universal ideals especially because of how deeply and
successfully they have integrated into modern day society. This idea of perceiving
men and women as two distinctive and opposite types of
The Main Causes Of Selfies
Did you ever know that taking too many selfies could kill you? According to
Robinson (2014), He told the Sunday Mirror: I was constantly in search of taking
the perfect selfie and when I realised I couldn t I wanted to die (para. 7). Selfie, as
defined in the dictionary, is an image of oneself taken by oneself using a digital
camera especially for posting on social networks (Selfie, 2002). But why can it kill
you? This is because people today, especially teenagers, are addicted to taking
selfies every day, considering that this is already a popular trend. Most teenagers
would take selfies every now and then because of vanity and perfectionism. This is
why some teenagers or even adults go to extremes, like committing suicidebecause
they cannot get the perfect shot they wanted. According to Sanghani (2014), most...

The first main cause is vanity. People would not want to take a lot of selfies if they
were not that vain; they would only do such if they were that much proud of
themselves. People sometimes feel that they have a better appearance or a better
pose compared to others, this is why they would take a lot of selfies and post those
all over the Internet. The second main cause is the influence around. A lot of
people, especially teenagers, are influenced by this trend. They might not like to
take a lot of selfies, but because people who almost always take selfies from
wherever surround them, they too are now being influenced and tempted to do
such. The third and last main cause is social networks. It is because of these social
sites, like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter that give a reason to people to take
selfies; to post those pictures online. People nowadays post their selfies almost
every day on these social sites, some people would even post their selfies online
every hour; people become very much vain because of social
Imperialism In The 21st Century

imaginary lines (white/black male/female straight/gay cis/trans rich/poor binary/non

Respect in the Military Essay
Respect in the Military It has been said that military standards are higher than the
country demands of its president. And that is true. President Clinton lied under oath.
Perhaps that is not perjury, but an army officer could not do that. Nor could army
personnel have extramarital affairs. Kelly Flynn found that out when she lost her
position in the Air Force and years of pilot training went down the drain. But for the
Commander in Chief, it is another story. While it is true that the Commander in Chief
is able to get away with misbehavior, military personnel have been warned not to
criticize him. In fact, the various branches have been reminding troops that they can
be prosecuted for publicly condemning the Commander in... Show more content on

Thus, just because Clinton admitted to doing the misdeeds, he cannot be criticized
by military members. In other words, one cannot accurately talk about President
Clinton without getting into serious trouble. The military may seem unnecessarily
restrictive or antiquated but there is a reason for the mandate. Officers must
respect their superiors. It is simple as that. The reasoning behind that is that
routines and orders must be obeyed. After all, soldiers are being trained and must
be ready to go into combat at any time. The reason that the personnel cannot
criticize their leader should be obvious. If a war or conflict were to break out, it
would significantly affect performance as well as the world s perception about the
United States. Thus, no matter how one feels, there must be respect given to every
single officer all the way up the line to the commander in chief. The fact that Clinton
himself has not been in compliance is immaterial. While he is the Commander in
Chief he is still considered to be a civilian. While it is important to give the president
respect, respect to Military Superior Commanding Officers and Non Commission
Officers is perhaps even more pertinent. If theoretically, when one is in the trenches
with superiors, they must be ready to accept orders willingly. The only way to
accomplish this is with respect and military courtesy. Thus, the fundamental purpose

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Limestone Caves
and minimized?
A Cave:
Caves, also known as karsts, are very unique and are a special part of our natural
environment. Caves form over a long period of time, 1000 of years (National
Geographic, 2015). Caves are made up of rock, ranging from volcanic to limestone.
Limestone caves are more pleasing to the eye as they usually contain more decoration
such as stalactites, Shawls and Straws. As limestone caves are more decorated they
are more prone to damage and deformation (Science Kids, 2016).
Damaged caused by humans in caves:
Humans are causing great damage to limestone caves, some of which the caves
themself cannot recover from. Physical damage by humans has the greatest impact
on caves (Bob Robins, 2005) There are many ways humans have and continue to still
damage caves, Majority of people assume that the main damage to caves is through
touching formations (Caving ,Survey 2017) However there are many other factors
that damage the cave just as badly such as graffiti, modernising caves and rainfall.
Tourist caves undergo the most damage (G.Enriquez, B, 2001)with lost formations,
climate changes, and urbanising the caves. Limestone caves are more susceptible to
damage from a change in climate than volcanic caves due to the rock type. When
tourists enter caves they can create thermal annomalies, the anomalies effect the
overall temperature in the cave and this in turn effects the production of formations.

Matchlocks In Japan
Not long after, news about the weapon began to spread towards other parts of
Japan. In 1545 the lord of Bungo on Kyushu, called Otomo Yoshiaki heard about the
weapon and requested a demonstrating of the musket (Lidin 2002, 6). Otomo also
became impressed by the power of the weapon and as a result, muskets were included
on its military arsenal. However, the gunwas presented with some technical
problems, which was not reliable to be used in the wars. One of those problems
was that it could not perform properly in rain. But the Japanese generals soon were
able to find a solution for it, even before the Portuguese generals (Perrin 1979, 17).

But it had also changed the ways wars were conducted, as with the advance and
power of guns, old styles of weapons were being slowly abandoned. In 1549 Oda
Nobunaga, the military Lord, who with the successor of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, was
successfully able to unified Japan under one strong central government (Brown
1948, 238). Requested an order of five hundred matchlocks to gunsmiths called
Kunitomo (Brown 1948, 238). In 1575, in the battle of Nagashino, Nobunaga had
an army of approximately 70,000 men, and 3,000 of them were equipped with
matchlocks (Brown 1948, 238). Its army was a combination of swords and guns,
as at that time they could effectively build tactics using both. Thus, the use of
firearms was quickly spread. In 1582 by the time of Nobunaga death, possibly one
third of Japans soldiers, who were leaded by military barons, were equipped with
firearms (Brown 1948, 238). Also, the victories earned at the begging of the
Korean invasion, were largely due to the fact that the Japanese army were
equipped with muskets, while the Korean didn t acquire these types of weapons
(Brown 1948). The three unifier of Japan Nobunaga, Hideyoshi and Leyasu made
an extensive use of guns in their battles. Therefore, it can be said that guns played a
key role in the unification of Japan as well as in the 1592 1598 invasions of Koreans

British Parliament And The Lords Of Commons
British Parliament dates back to 1265. England owned its own personal parliament
until Acts of Union with Scotland, Ireland and whales although not fully successful
due to a large percent of Ireland withdrawing in 1922. UK parliament is known to be
the heart of UK Government (Leach, Coxall, and Robins, 2011) and is made up of
three main components: The monarchy, The House Of Commons and The House Of
Lords. It has multiple key features which contribute to the successful workings of
Government.
The role of the MP s and the functions in which they carry out is a major contribution
to UK parliament. The House of Commons are known to be the most dominant
chamber in parliament and all 650 members are elected by the British people to
speak for their needs and issues. They exercise parliamentary sovereignty which
gives parliament legislative sovereignty (Fairclough, P.E., Lynch, P. and Magee, E.

do so due to the British peoples vote towards their political party. Each individual
MP must invariably approve all of their party s policies and disprove the opposing

UK Whip System. Those who are nominated by each political party to arrange the

main character of the book; Holden Caulfield. The book was first released to be a
book for adults, but over the years has become common throughout young adults
and teens. The main character and narrator is Holden Caulfield. Holden is a
sixteen year old who is expelled from his four schools, due to failure in each of his
classes. He frequently refers to people he does not like as phonies. Although Holden
Caulfield is very negative throughout the book, he is also very hypocritical towards
many things. Holden is very hypocritical towards many things because he calls
almost everyone in the book a phony, and he whines and complains about people and
their flaws. Even though he tries to hide the fact that he can also be a phony or any

Throughout the book, he constantly talks about how he despises movies. If there

lying about hating movies. When it comes to Holden and movies, it is a
contradiction where it lets the author choose whether he likes movies or despises

Holden is going through the journey of finding himself. While in this journey, there

Standard Picture Encryption And Decryption
Yong Feng et al, in 2009,the author proposed a new invertible two dimensional chart,
shouted Line chart, for picture encryption and decryption. It charts a picture to an
array of pixels and next, charts it back from the array to alike sized image. A Line
chart consists of two submaps: the left Line chart and the right Line chart that are

of standard picture encryption ways established on two dimensional (2 D) charts that

Pros And Cons Of Caadavers
The use of Cadavers in my view, and from my experience of working and studying
in the dissection lab of the National University of Ireland, Galway is one of the best
ways human anatomy can both be taught and learnt and I believe is an essential
aspect in the study of educational anatomy and should be utilised in the learning of
anatomywhere possible. The active, hands on exploration that cadaveric dissections
provide, joined with excellent teaching methods makes for an interesting yet
challenging method of learning anatomy. In saying this, I do believe that there are
both pros and cons associated with the study of cadaveric anatomy.

the learning and understanding of anatomy? Answers to these questions may differ
from person to person, but I personally believe that the role that a cadaver plays in
the processing, digestion and assimilation of information that has been taught in
lectures is paramount as from my experience of using these systems, and trying to
learn from them, I feel like in terms of the positioning of anatomical structures such
as muscles and nerves, these 3D visuals fall short. They provide only a rough and
vague indication of the location of structures and sometimes don t provide an
accurate representation of the structures in comparison to viewing them on a gross

When Candice descended the stairs from the loft there was always that moment of
pride which swirled in her chest. The music was adulterous, the neon lights were
moody, and the smell of cigar smoke, alcohol, and body musk was beckoning. She
took her time with the metal stairs, letting her hand slide down the railing as she
surveyed the majority of the ground floor. Boulevard 9 was celebrating its 25th
anniversary tonight, and there were streamers, balloons, and tinsel all over the
establishment. There were familiar faces, but most were strangers. Everyone was
dressed up in a little more glam tonight, whether that entailed nothing more then just
extra make up, an extra effort in casual attire, or extra attention to the little details that
attracted greed, lust, and love. It was marvelous to Elaine, and she smiled.
There was something different in the air tonight besides extra fluff, Elaine thought,
and as she took her usual seat at her usual table, she fixated her heart into
discovering what it might be. Elaine had golden, blonde hair that made Hollywood
jealous, and expressive blue eyes. It was easy to underestimate her as the cliche,
dumb blonde most jokes are made of. Sometimes she let them have their jokes, too,
because Duchess Elaine always had the last laugh. She had a heart shaped face with a
cute nose, prominent cheek bones, and plush lips painted over with glossy red lipstick.
A server placed her usual drink down in front of her, but she ignored it. She
An Evaluation Of The And Cryptographic
It was recognized that TLS 1.0, when managing different bundles, permits the
accompanying parcels to utilize an IV that is the last figure content square of the
past bundle. At the end of the day, an assailant who can see the encoded activity
can note the IV utilized for session treat . Essentially put, a dynamic aggressor will
have the capacity to assemble the Ivs for each one record just by sniffing the

the session treat and check whether the figure content matches. Rc4 Rc4 is a

long history of cryptographic examination and cryptographic ambushes, most

late research appear to have made full plaintext recovery ambushes on Rc4. One of

Interpreting Henry In The Film Regarding Henry
In Regarding Henry, the main character Henry is shot and has major memory loss.
As a successful lawyer, he must completely start over with his family and work
life. It is an extremely traumatic experience for Henry and his family and
coworkers, who are a key part of Henry s life. Henry s natural state, Id, can be
demonstrated in the introduction of the movie before his fatal injury. As we are
introduced to Henry, we see him as a superficial businessman with a short temper.
His life is full of wealth and parties. In a specific scene we see Henry talking to his
daughter very irritably. This represents his Id taking over before he speaks to his
daughter, someone he loves and cares for. Moreover, when Henry goes into the

Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of A Relational

1 Relational Database management system
A relational database management system is based many of the databases system
based on relational database model.
A relational database s use is organizing large amounts of data. Relationships database
define the relationship between two points of tables and these database systems are
linked by defining that relationship. Database is a well maintained collection of
data. The data are arranged to model particular part of reality in a way that supports
process requiring information, such as availability and modelling of rooms in hotels
in a way that supports finding a hotel with vacancies.

DISADVANTAGES
1. Implementation: A important and useful restriction and therefore disadvantage in
the use of relational database because it can increase system machine performance.
2. inactive extraction of meaning from data: if the data is normally organized in a
hierarchical the hierarchical may give efficient meaning for that data.
3. Data complication: Data in occupy in many tables, which are connect to each
other through s key value. An RDBMS does not force database designer to impose a
coherent table.
2 Object oriented database management system, database management system in
which all the collected information about data can be represents in the form of object
and this used in object oriented programming. Object databases are unlike from
relational databases which are table oriented.

Comparing Shakespeare s Oedipus The King And Death...
COMPARING TRAGEDIES THROUGHOUT TIME
By Daniel Konshak What is a tragedy? Merriam Webster dictionary defines tragedy
as a serious drama typically describing a conflict between the protagonist and a
superior force, such as destiny, and having a sorrowful or disastrous conclusion that
elicits pity or terror. Two such examples of literary tragedies are Oedipusthe King by
Sophocles and Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller. Although written over 2000
years apart, there are many similarities between the two literary works, but with
varying degrees of differences as well. Some of the key areas to be examined when
making this comparison are: the social status of the main characters, the
psychological mindsets the characters are in, their respective lack of self
awareness, whether their fate was deserved or not, and the main fatal flaw of each
main character. Let s begin by first examining the social status of the two main
characters from each literary selection. In Oedipus the King by Sophocles, the
main character is, of course, Oedipus. As the story unfolds, we find that Oedipus
has been plagued by the prophecy that said he should lie with his own mother and
be his father s murderer (Sophocles, 385). Oedipus, in trying to break this prophecy,
flees from the city to escape this fate. However, unbeknownst to Oedipus, he was
actually born in Thebes and not in the city of Corinth as he originally believed. So,
instead of escaping the city and the fate of the
John Foster s Car On Fire Case Study
In this specific scenario, Caroline failed to report John freely admitting that he
wants to set his foster mother s car on fire. Caroline also did not document this
thoroughly in the case note. As a professional, if a case like this brings questioning
and concern, it lies in caseworker s duty to report this to either her supervisor or the
CEO of the agency where she works.
In the National Association for Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics, duty to warn
is stated in section 4.06. Caroline failed in her duty to document and warn, which
ultimately resulted in John lighting his foster s car on fire.
As a caseworker, the client should always be viewed as a priority. Once John
expresses his plan, the caseworker should have immediately told someone that
works above her, like a supervisor. In any state, setting a fire to someone s car is
evidence of property damage and as a minor, it could be viewed as a felony. In
completing the simple task of telling a supervisor and documenting the intent, this
could have been avoided. Maintaining detailed moment by moment documentation
of the conversation between the client and the caseworker is crucial to provide the
best service. This could have helped the caseworker study his case report thoroughly
to see if some of his behaviors in the past gave a clear indication of his actions. ...

In this case, if I was the social worker, I would have immediately talked to my
supervisor about the incident. I have learned that when people show you who they
are, believe them the first time. In this case, taking Jack s word seriously is crucial.
When Jack made that comment the first time, it would have alerted me to continue
asking him questions regarding his intent, documented his body language, analyzed
his voice and facial expression, and followed up with my supervisor on my findings.
In doing so, the supervisor and the caseworker could have acted
Westward Expansion In The West
The influence of the westward expansion in the West is still evident today. Influences
such as land, and the individualist mindset remain the same today. Also, a lot of ways
the frontier land today is isolated compared to the West we live in today, too. The
frontier emphasized the spirit of nationalism and individualism in the United States.
As mentioned amongst the themes of the West, the frontierexperience converted
settlers into individualists, who hoped to gain opportunity in the lands of the West.
The ample amount of resources and the greater social mobility of frontier areas
instilled a form of individualism in American frontiersman. This is similar to the
individualism present today, for instance in politics and other government affairs,
people dislike of governmental interference in their affairs, similar to the people that
had migrated to the West so they could be more independent and have less
governmental interference. Migrating somewhere new becomes an unfamiliar
environment, as travelers adapted and devised new techniques and objects to cope
with an unknown land. This can also be seen now in Americans being able to adapt
to innovations and keep innovations and ideas of the Western front. In many rural
areas, the concept of land and ranches, how to care for them, and the small settlement
is still evident today, especially in the state we live in.
Although the history of the American frontier is glorified for the vanquishing of
Indian and the march of manifest destiny that made America great and special, this
is still evident today in society. For instance, in media today, the Dakota Pipelines
were on Native American tribal land, yet we as Americans used the power of
authority to make them leave their land for the supposed greater benefit of America.
That was the notion in the past, and still is the notion today, Native Americans were
not considered Americans, although the inhabited areas and lands way before we
had. The representation of the West showcased triumph of civilization over savagery.
Also, back in the 19th century, scholarly essays were written that stated moving west
separated Americans from their European roots, those who were from there. This is
evident today as well,
Essay about Little Bee
Little Bee, by Chris Cleve, is a novel that explores unthinkable evil, but
simultaneously celebrates its characters in their ability to transcend all that weighs
them down, including their pasts, their secrets, and their flaws. For the character of
Little Bee, identity is inescapably tied to ethnicity, nationality, gender, race, and
class. A representative passage of the book that explores Little Bee s point of view
(both its unceasing optimism and stark realism) occurs in the final chapter: Little
Bee is awoken from a good dream, and then comes the ominous first sentence, There
is a moment when you wake up from dreaming in the hot sun, a moment outside time
when you do not know what you are (Cleave 258). Little Bee is questioning her...

This paragraph also hints at the return of Little Bee s Africanness in its wording.
The implication is that shade, a relatively simple word with her advanced level of
English, is again foreign to her. Then she says, regarding Sarah, I searched for the
name of her expression in your language...frightened, again struggling for easy
language. Given that in the previous paragraph she has discussed transformation at
length, it is as if the reader is seeing Little Bee regress to the self she was before
England and Sarah s influence. Another important element of voice is the use of
the second person point of view in the first paragraph. This technique is also used
throughout the book, as filtered through Little Bee. The second person is an
affecting way of getting the reader to empathize with its speaker. While Little Bee
s circumstances may be hard for many readers (particularly the audience that might
have access and motivation to read the novel) to understand, the second person
forces the reader to imagine herself in her stead. The use of second person as a tool
ties in with one of the central themes of the book: what it takes for one person to
understand the plight of another. This theme is evident at many points: Sarah and
Andrew choose to vacation in Nigeria despite its war; Andrew refuses to cut off his
finger though it may mean the girls will die; Sarah dismisses Andrew s
Southwest Jet Fuel Hedge
Case Assignment 1: Southwest Jet Fuel Hedge 1) The estimate of expected fuel
consumption for year 2008 is 1511000000 gallons. We assume that the fuel
consumption is uniform across months. Then the estimated fuel consumption for
2008Q1 will be 1511000000/4=377750000 gallons. Since we need to hedge 75% of
the expected fuel consumption over 2008Q1, the amount of fuel we need to hedge
over 2008Q1 will be 75%Г—377750000=283312500 gallons, 283312500
/3=94437500 gallons each month. Because the crude oil futures contracts trade in
units of 1000 U.S. barrels (42000 gallons), the total number of contract we need to
enter will be 283312500 gallons/42000 gallons= 6745.5 We have three contracts

(4) The standard deviation of changes in jet fuel price is: 0.2554 The standard
deviation of changes in April 08 futures prices is: 6.8109 The covariance of the above
two is: 1.6704 So the correlation is: 1.6704/(6.8109Г—0.2554)= 0.9603, not 1. The
correlation between jet fuel prices and oil futures is not 1, because the changes of
jet fuel are not exactly the same with the changes of crude oil. After all, they are
different products. Another reason is the jet fuel prices in the excel file is the spot
price, while the price for oil futures is future price. The changes of spot price are
not exactly the same with the changes of future price. (5) If the similar strategy is
used for the next 6 months from June 30th, the P L of the hedging strategy between
June 30th and September 22nd can be calculated as follows. Aug.08 contract P Lпјљ
The P L of the future is (127.95 140.00)/42= 0.2869$/gallon So the P L of the total
future is 94437500Г—( 0.2869)= 27094000$. The Jet fuel price that Southwest
would implicitly pay is: 125920000Г—3.81+27094000=479755200+13787875=
506849200$ The actual price is 125920000Г—3.81=479755200$ The hedge is not
beneficial. Sep.08 contract P L: The P L of the future is (114.98 140.58)/42= 0.6095$
/gallon So the P L of the total future is 94437500Г—( 0.6095)= 57560000$ The Jet
fuel price that Southwest would implicitly pay is:

  • 2. Haiti s Independence from France Came at a Cost Essay Introduction The country known now as Haiti emerged as the first black republic in the world and the second nation in the Western hemisphere to win its independence from a European power following their declaration of Independence on January 1, 1804. Prior to this historic event, Haiti was the richest and wealthiest colony on the planet; a colony that the French empire relied heavily on economically. As a result of the French Revolution, Haitians began feeling a sense of revolt in the way that if the French can do it, so can they. Soon enough, this group of slaves that everyone saw as a garbage peoples worthy of absolutely nothing, the impossible happened: Haiti became an independent nation. Not only was its occurrence significant, but so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the reading comprehension that he just attained, Toussaint became inspired by the French philosophers of The Enlightenment. The writings of Jean Jacques Rousseau were the major inspirations of L Ouverture, and lead him towards the way of fighting for freedom and abolishment of slavery from the colony. With this in mind, the slave revolt broke loose and Toussaint, now an old slave at the age of 45, quickly took control over his own plantation. Just by this action, L Ouverture realized that there is a chance for something more to be obtained. Toussaint set out to build a disciplined fighting force, so he arrived to the camps of the other rebels, found rebels faced with starvation, leaders with no plans for defeating the troops, and commanders with a loss of heart. He quickly started building his army with those that he found and recruited a few hundred others so that he could turn onto the offensive. The year of 1799, when the French Revolution ended, was also the birth of the reign of one of the most strategic generals in history Napoleon Bonaparte. Since the revolution ended in France, Napoleon could now focus on the revolt of France s former colony: Haiti. Averting his attention there, he quickly dispatched his brother in law and French general Charles Leclerc along with an expeditionary of warships and soldiers to take back Haiti. Also, he secretly gave instructions to restore slavery into

  • 4. Between Serpents Of Paradise By Edward Abbey And Thinking... The difference between Serpents of Paradise by Edward Abbey and Thinking Like a Mountain by Aldo Leopold is specifically that one essay focuses more on the hunting aspect of life. Both essays seem to care about the environment. In Abbey s essay he tries to figure out how to avoid killing the snake; he needed to stay calm and move it without getting bit. In Leopold s essay he killed a wolf to save the deer population; allowing him to hunt more deer. Each essay was written with great description, yet showing one author cared more about the animal and its environment over the other. In both Leopold and Abbey essays they wanted to alter their environment, but only Abbey succeeded due to Abbey having the correct knowledge when it came to his environment. The authors have two clearly different environments and describes them in diverse ways. Abbey writes about his surroundings as a bright, clear, calm April morning. He changed his description in the afternoon as the wind begins to blow, raising dust and sand in funnel shaped twisters that spin across that desert briefly, like dancers, and then collapse elements under stress (52). While Leopold writes about his experience with on a mountain as a deep chesty ball echoes from rimrock to rimrock, rolls down the mountain, and fades into the far blackness of the night (49). People, in general, care more about the environment as it comes to their careers. Abbey and Leopold have careers which has involved them in their specific
  • 5. Essay on Edgar Degas and his influence on the art of Mary... Mary Stevenson Cassatt s Miss Mary Ellison (1880) and Edgar Hilaire Germain Degas s Mademoiselle Malo (1877) are two paintings that, when compared and contrasted, shows numbers of influences that Degas had on Mary Cassatt s art. Both of these paintings are portraits done in tbe standard Вѕ point of view. Even at a mere glance, it is easy to see the striking similarities between the two portraits. It is not too farfetched to assume that Degas had a lot of influence on Mary Cassatts work because it is known that he was one of her biggest inspirations (Wallis, 14). Furthermore, even within the Impressionist group the bond that Degas and Cassatt shared was an important one to her, since she looked up to him as a model artist (Englemann, 80).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At around 1877 She was invited to s stop submitting her artwork to the salon and instead join and submit with the independents/impressionist s group by Edgar Degas (Mathews, 35). She was also the only American female artist to exhibit with the Impressionists. Edgar Degas was a Parisian painter; much like Cassatt, his father was also a wealthy banker (Wallis, 18). He was born in 1832 (Spate, 6) His father, the banker, was also an avid art collector; this helped stimulate the Degas s interest in art at an early age (Wallis, 19) Like Cassatt, his family was from the higher middle class, and as such he was raised to be a cultivated, cultured, Parisian social elite (Spate, 6). However, unlike Cassatt, Degas did not originally study art; he studied law. In 1853 he received his baccalaureate and according to his father s wishes studied law (Wallis, 18). Eventually his father agreed to let Degas study art and so he did. Before joining up with the Impressionist, Degas mostly vested his time into classically themed paintings and portraiture (Wallis, 20). Eventually, he was one of the first to exhibit with the impressionists (he participated in the first impressionist exhibition in 1874). Eventually, he participated in the first impressionist exhibition in 1874 along the sides of Renoir, Monet, Morisot, Pissarro, CГ©zanne, and Sisley (Spate, 13). The two paintings Miss Mary Ellison and Mademoiselle Malo were chosen based on

  • 8. Meaning Of Metaphysical Poetry INTRODUCTION The word meta means after and so in simple terms , metaphysical means after physical . Metaphysics cover a wide range of topics from religious to consciousness. It is all about exploration and philosophy. Samuel Johnson first coined the term metaphysical poetry in his book lives of the most eminent English poets. Metaphysical poetrycan be divided broadly in two parts. They are love poems and religious poems. The habit of writing both these type of poetry is derived from John Donne , who in his first phase of life wrote love poems in during his later life wrote religious poems. The metaphysical poetsare known for their ability to surprise the reader with the help of conceit, paradoxical images, colloquial language,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example in the poem, The definition of love , the poet makes a series of paradoxical assertions that pose a riddle. It invites the reader to identify the nature of the love of which its speaks. The early stanza suggest love for god. The second half is related to love between man and woman. We can also see allegory in Marvell s poetry. One such example is Bermudas . Bermuda is an allegorical poem of forty iambic tetrameters rhyming in couplets. The poem is in 3 parts a four line introduction describing a small boat; a central section of 32 lines consisting of the song sung by the sailors on the boat , in which the Bermudas are represented as an earthly eden and again a four line conclusion. Bermuda is an island in the West Indies. They were often referred to as earthly paradise in the early seventeenth century. Again the image from the small boat to the song plays with two traditions. A) In Homer s Odyssey , Odysseus is advised that if he wishes to sail past the sirens safely he must plug his men s ears with the help of wax and have himself tied to the mast so that he is not seduced by the charm of their choices. B) In Petrarchan lyrics, a man s life is often likened to a ship sailing through storms until he can reach the harbor the love of his mistress
  • 9. Abraham and Moses Essay Abram is presented to us as an old man without an offspring or heir. He is at the age of seventy five when God comes to him with the offer of the covenant. Abraham stands for devotion, justice, compassion, faith, tact, and personal integrity. He is also seen as cunning, humorous, and pragmatic throughout the story. Abram is a man looking for his faith, and God asks Abram to leave his land and kinship to a land which God will show him. In exchange for Abram s faith and compliance, God will make of Abram a great nation, make his name great, bless those who bless him and curse those who curse him, and finally all the communities of the Earth will find blessing in him. The covenant is a basic understanding between Abram and God that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Abraham found out that this was God s final test before the covenant was finalized. God told Abraham that all his people must look to God as their god, and that all the boys must be circumcised on the eighth day after their birth. If Abraham would fulfill his part of the covenant, God would provide Abraham with the lands of Canaan. Abraham must have faith in God throughout his journey because the God he speaks to asks him to leave his lands and kinsfolk to go to a promised land that Moses has never seen nor heard much about. God promises Abraham many things which were unbelievable or impossible without divine intervention, so Abraham s faith is always being tested. Abraham knows that his legacy will never continue without an heir, so his faith lets him continue and believe that he will still have a son even after he has aged so much. Another reason why Abraham must have faith is that the people following him have faith in Abraham. If at any time Abraham loses faith, he will not only risk breaking the covenant with God, but he will also be letting down all the people who had faith in him. The story of Abraham changed the way the Hebrew people thought about time. The Hebrew people began to think of time as cyclical. Each cycle was begun with the promise of what is to come, and ended with the fulfillment of this promise and the need of a new promise. This fits in with the stories of the Prophets, as the coming of Abraham and Moses can be
  • 10. Social Inequality In The United States Social inequality comes in many forms including things such as income, race, gender, and wealth. It is something we can see in everyday life, yet there are some people that don t seem to think it exists, or it at least isn t anything that they need to be concerned about because they re doing just fine. I believe that they are wrong and that inequality affects us all in one way or another. It is something that we need to come to grips with and deal with as a society and is not a problem that can be solved on an individual basis. Income inequality has come to the front as an issue over the past few years due to low wage workers demanding a raise in the minimum wage. While the United States remains one of the richest countries in the world, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Supposedly our system is progressive , which means that it is taxing higher incomes at higher rates, but with all of the loopholes and tax breaks that those at the top can work around, a lot of the lower classes actually end up paying more of a percentage of their income in taxes. Sales taxes and payroll taxes also hit those income levels harder because, again, those end up being a larger amount of their total income. For example, Kansas now has one of the nation s highest sales tax rates, at 6.5%, in the nation. Many localities have additional local taxes on top of that, making the total tax rate upwards of 10% in some places. (Kansas Department of Revenue, 2015). A 10% sales tax is going to make life a lot harder for someone who only brings home $600 a month than it is on someone who brings home $4000 a month. Regressive taxes like this tend to hit the lower and middle class harder so, if we want to improve income inequality we can move to reduce those. At the federal level, congress can move to implement policies like I mentioned, along with others that would make the system fairer and distribute wealth a little more
  • 11. Hebraic Monarchy In Israel The year of approximately 1051 B.C. of the United Kingdom Period of Israel was a significant year in that it was marked by a shift in the Hebrew view of God and his position over their nation (Hindson and Yates, 2010). For centuries prior to this date, the Hebrew people not only dwelled under the theocratic institutes of Yahweh, but for a time, also viewed him as their supreme leader and judge (Johnson, 2012). By around 1051 B.C., however, the Hebrew mindset had altered, and desiring to imitate the surrounding nations, the Hebrews demanded that a monarchy be established over them (Hindson and Yates, 2010). The ultimate result was the founding of the Hebraic monarchy under the first three kings of Israel: Saul, David, and Solomon. Tragically, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For a brief time, Solomon followed in the footsteps of his father, and exemplified righteousness, wisdom, and spiritual fervor in every action he undertook. As a result of his actions, the Lord blessed his endeavors and the kingdom of Israel thrived and prospered under his jurisdiction. However, Solomon had one great weakness: a love of women. Due to this obsession with women, Solomon took many wives, most of whom were pagan and had no love for Yahweh or his statues (Maller, 2011). Sadly, his love for his many pagan wives gradually led Solomon astray, resulting in his adoption of much of their pagan religious views (1 Kings 11:3 6). Although he is described as still acknowledging the Lord, his heart was no longer as devoted to the will of God as it had formerly been, and Jehovah Jireh had become only one out of the host of other gods to be worshiped (Hindson and Yates, 2010). The Lord, displeased and grieved by Solomon s infidelity, warned Solomon that as a result of his ungodliness and unfaithfulness, his kingdom would be torn from his descendants and given to another. That is, his land would be divided and bestowed upon another individual not of the house of David and the once united nation of Israel, would now fall prey to great disunity, incessant war, and bitter rivalries, all as a result of Solomon s failure to maintain an upright spirit before his God (Maller,

The process of globalization is allowing people from all over the world be more interconnected with one another. The process is seen in many different ways. Upon my scrolling I stumbled upon a quote by Johnny Depp. Yes, Johnny Depp not Shakespeare or Marlow like most people would assume. The quote is: With any part you play, there is a certain amount of yourself in it. There has to be, otherwise it s just not acting. It s lying. This quote struck me as intriguing and made me rethink my perspective on acting. The main concept of the quote is to be yourself otherwise you are lying not only to yourself but to your audience. The quote also sheds light on the concept discussed in class where we need to represent parts of our personality in acting. We could try and mimic an actorbut it would not be our own work. After contemplating all of these meanings I began to brainstorm the numerous possibilities of how his quote distinguishes acting skills and how it can be applied to daily life.... They except to be drawn into the play and moved by the pool of emotions a character is displaying. If an actor s performance is not genuine and unique people will be disappointed. The actor would be lying and also be a copycat. This study specifically looked at the effect that dog ownership had on 10 to 12 years old children. The researcher, Robert E. Bierer, Ph.D., was surprised at the difference in empathy and self esteem between preadolescents who owned a dogand those who did not. Bierer s conclusions indicate that pet ownership has a statistically significant impact on self esteem and sensitivity towards others. He noted that teachers, parents, and other children have expectations for a child to fulfill. A pet has no such measures of success or failure; acceptance is total, which provides a sense of self worth. Furthermore, raising pets lets kids be more sensitive to observe other s subtle feelings. They start to develop a sense of feel towards other people around them and they are more apt to seeing if they are sad or happy. In this way, kids are likely to become more considerate and caring. When it comes to the question why pet ownership can affect our kid s characteristic development, this article, Do Owners and Their Dogs Have Similar Personalities, which was posted in the website Psychology Today, may shed some light on the issue. The writer of the article, Stanley Coren, cited a recent study by BorbГЎla TurcsГЎna which attempted to look at the similarity between the personalities of owners and their dogs using the most commonly accepted personality
  • 23. Comparison Of Short And Long Term Memory Inside out Paper After a memory is created it is important to know how our brain stores these memories (Mohs, 2007). In this paper, the importantance of comparing short term memory to long term memory will be analyzed. Throughout life we have millions of memories, but the different steps of short and long term memory help us filter those memories (Mohs, 2007). As our brain sorts through the memories to preserve, it begins the process of filtering them from short to long term. Short term memory is held for short periods of time before being discarded or moved to long term memory. Short term memory is also referred to as working memory. When additional information is added to the basic thought or short term memory it is then transferred into long term memory. Long term memory is the final step in retaining information for longer periods of time (Rahtus, 2010). Short term memory is gathered and used for brief amounts of time. As a result, it will decline rapidly from our brain within a few moments. Items can be retained in short term memory when strategies such as rehearsal are implemented (Ruthus, 2010). Daily routines including: school, work and, play involve short term memory. Southtree states, that people have an average of 70,000 thoughts during our wake and sleep cycles (Macco s, 2017). Our brain immediately begins to filter these thoughts to forget or to use in short term. As Riley initially began looking at her room, she started to place her furniture in the space

In her work, Butler examines earlier forms of feminism and their frequent use of social constructions of binary gender ideals. Butler maintains her argument that feminists in particular should abandon this idea of sharing this universal common gender identity (Seidman, 216). Butler is very critical of this perspective because she finds that it undermines the experiences of all women and generalizes them into one cohesive experience. In this sense, feminism is essentially reinforcing binary gender ideals by feminists identifying themselves solely as women they are only perpetuating social productions of gender that have been constructed through a male dominated context. Although feminism is uniting women through this sense of sharing a common identity that distinguishes them from their male counter part, it also however, misinterprets and generalizes the experiences of women while simultaneously excluding and discrediting other women. Evidently, according to Butler s argument abiding by a unitary gender identity, rejects any other sexuality and regards them as deviant and improper to the norm. (Seidman, 217). It is often difficult to abandon such universal ideals especially because of how deeply and successfully they have integrated into modern day society. Selfie, as defined in the dictionary, is an image of oneself taken by oneself using a digital camera especially for posting on social networks (Selfie, 2002). But why can it kill you? Kelly Flynn found that out when she lost her position in the Air Force and years of pilot training went down the drain. But for the Commander in Chief, it is another story. Thus, just because Clinton admitted to doing the misdeeds, he cannot be criticized by military members. In other words, one cannot accurately talk about President Clinton without getting into serious trouble. The military may seem unnecessarily restrictive or antiquated but there is a reason for the mandate. Officers must respect their superiors. It is simple as that. The reasoning behind that is that routines and orders must be obeyed. After all, soldiers are being trained and must be ready to go into combat at any time. The reason that the personnel cannot criticize their leader should be obvious. If a war or conflict were to break out, it would significantly affect performance as well as the world s perception about the United States. Thus, no matter how one feels, there must be respect given to every single officer all the way up the line to the commander in chief. The fact that Clinton himself has not been in compliance is immaterial. While he is the Commander in Chief he is still considered to be a civilian. While it is important to give the president respect, respect to Military Superior Commanding Officers and Non Commission Officers is perhaps even more pertinent. If theoretically, when one is in the trenches with superiors, they must be ready to accept orders willingly. The only way to accomplish this is with respect and military courtesy. Limestone caves are more pleasing to the eye as they usually contain more decoration such as stalactites, Shawls and Straws. Physical damage by humans has the greatest impact on caves (Bob Robins, 2005) There are many ways humans have and continue to still damage caves, Majority of people assume that the main damage to caves is through touching formations (Caving ,Survey 2017) However there are many other factors that damage the cave just as badly such as graffiti, modernising caves and rainfall. Tourist caves undergo the most damage (G.Enriquez, B, 2001)with lost formations, climate changes, and urbanising the caves. But it had also changed the ways wars were conducted, as with the advance and power of guns, old styles of weapons were being slowly abandoned. In 1549 Oda Nobunaga, the military Lord, who with the successor of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, was successfully able to unified Japan under one strong central government (Brown 1948, 238). Requested an order of five hundred matchlocks to gunsmiths called Kunitomo (Brown 1948, 238). In 1575, in the battle of Nagashino, Nobunaga had an army of approximately 70,000 men, and 3,000 of them were equipped with matchlocks (Brown 1948, 238). Its army was a combination of swords and guns, as at that time they could effectively build tactics using both. Thus, the use of firearms was quickly spread. In 1582 by the time of Nobunaga death, possibly one third of Japans soldiers, who were leaded by military barons, were equipped with firearms (Brown 1948, 238). Also, the victories earned at the begging of the Korean invasion, were largely due to the fact that the Japanese army were equipped with muskets, while the Korean didn t acquire these types of weapons (Brown 1948). The three unifier of Japan Nobunaga, Hideyoshi and Leyasu made an extensive use of guns in their battles. Therefore, it can be said that guns played a key role in the unification of Japan as well as in the 1592 1598 invasions of Koreans (Brown

Well in the novel, Catcher In The Rye, the protagonist Holden Caulfield tells a story of when he was sixteen years old from a mental hospital. J.D Salinger gives his outlook of the world through the main character of the book; Holden Caulfield. The book was first released to be a book for adults, but over the years has become common throughout young adults and teens. The main character and narrator is Holden Caulfield. Holden is a sixteen year old who is expelled from his four schools, due to failure in each of his classes. He frequently refers to people he does not like as phonies. Although Holden Caulfield is very negative throughout the book, he is also very hypocritical towards many things. Holden is very hypocritical towards many things because he calls almost everyone in the book a phony, and he whines and complains about people and their flaws. From this quote we can get an idea that Holden is lying about hating movies. When it comes to Holden and movies, it is a contradiction where it lets the author choose whether he likes movies or despises them. Although Holden seems like a hypocrite and a phony, we do understand that Holden is going through the journey of finding himself. • 45. Comparing Shakespeare s Oedipus The King And Death... COMPARING TRAGEDIES THROUGHOUT TIME By Daniel Konshak What is a tragedy? Merriam Webster dictionary defines tragedy as a serious drama typically describing a conflict between the protagonist and a superior force, such as destiny, and having a sorrowful or disastrous conclusion that elicits pity or terror. Two such examples of literary tragedies are Oedipusthe King by Sophocles and Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller. Although written over 2000 years apart, there are many similarities between the two literary works, but with varying degrees of differences as well. Some of the key areas to be examined when making this comparison are: the social status of the main characters, the psychological mindsets the characters are in, their respective lack of self awareness, whether their fate was deserved or not, and the main fatal flaw of each main character. Let s begin by first examining the social status of the two main characters from each literary selection. In Oedipus the King by Sophocles, the main character is, of course, Oedipus. As the story unfolds, we find that Oedipus has been plagued by the prophecy that said he should lie with his own mother and be his father s murderer (Sophocles, 385). Oedipus, in trying to break this prophecy, flees from the city to escape this fate. However, unbeknownst to Oedipus, he was actually born in Thebes and not in the city of Corinth as he originally believed. So, instead of escaping the city and the fate of the

In the National Association for Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics, duty to warn is stated in section 4.06. Caroline failed in her duty to document and warn, which ultimately resulted in John lighting his foster s car on fire. As a caseworker, the client should always be viewed as a priority. Once John expresses his plan, the caseworker should have immediately told someone that works above her, like a supervisor. • 47. Westward Expansion In The West The influence of the westward expansion in the West is still evident today. Influences such as land, and the individualist mindset remain the same today. Also, a lot of ways the frontier land today is isolated compared to the West we live in today, too. The frontier emphasized the spirit of nationalism and individualism in the United States. As mentioned amongst the themes of the West, the frontierexperience converted settlers into individualists, who hoped to gain opportunity in the lands of the West. The ample amount of resources and the greater social mobility of frontier areas instilled a form of individualism in American frontiersman. This is similar to the individualism present today, for instance in politics and other government affairs, people dislike of governmental interference in their affairs, similar to the people that had migrated to the West so they could be more independent and have less governmental interference. Migrating somewhere new becomes an unfamiliar environment, as travelers adapted and devised new techniques and objects to cope with an unknown land. This can also be seen now in Americans being able to adapt to innovations and keep innovations and ideas of the Western front. In many rural areas, the concept of land and ranches, how to care for them, and the small settlement is still evident today, especially in the state we live in. Although the history of the American frontier is glorified for the vanquishing of Indian and the march of manifest destiny that made America great and special, this is still evident today in society. For instance, in media today, the Dakota Pipelines were on Native American tribal land, yet we as Americans used the power of authority to make them leave their land for the supposed greater benefit of America. That was the notion in the past, and still is the notion today, Native Americans were not considered Americans, although the inhabited areas and lands way before we had. The representation of the West showcased triumph of civilization over savagery. Also, back in the 19th century, scholarly essays were written that stated moving west separated Americans from their European roots, those who were from there. This is evident today as well,

Essay about Little Bee Little Bee, by Chris Cleve, is a novel that explores unthinkable evil, but simultaneously celebrates its characters in their ability to transcend all that weighs them down, including their pasts, their secrets, and their flaws. For the character of Little Bee, identity is inescapably tied to ethnicity, nationality, gender, race, and class. A representative passage of the book that explores Little Bee s point of view (both its unceasing optimism and stark realism) occurs in the final chapter: Little Bee is awoken from a good dream, and then comes the ominous first sentence, There is a moment when you wake up from dreaming in the hot sun, a moment outside time when you do not know what you are (Cleave 258). The implication is that shade, a relatively simple word with her advanced level of English, is again foreign to her. Then she says, regarding Sarah, I searched for the name of her expression in your language...frightened, again struggling for easy language. Given that in the previous paragraph she has discussed transformation at length, it is as if the reader is seeing Little Bee regress to the self she was before England and Sarah s influence. Another important element of voice is the use of the second person point of view in the first paragraph. This technique is also used throughout the book, as filtered through Little Bee. The second person is an affecting way of getting the reader to empathize with its speaker. While Little Bee s circumstances may be hard for many readers (particularly the audience that might have access and motivation to read the novel) to understand, the second person forces the reader to imagine herself in her stead. The use of second person as a tool ties in with one of the central themes of the book: what it takes for one person to understand the plight of another. This theme is evident at many points: Sarah and Andrew choose to vacation in Nigeria despite its war; Andrew refuses to cut off his finger though it may mean the girls will die; Sarah dismisses Andrew s
