Taking a Look at Radiation Safety
Radiation safety RADIATION SAFETY Introduction No radiation in every part of our lives.
The radiation may occur naturally in the ground and can reach us from the radiation coming
from the space around us . As well as the radiation can occur naturally in the water we drink , or
in the soil , and construction materials ( radon from the ground and radioactive elements in the
earth ) . He spoke of radiation as a result of its industry by humans, such as X ray X Rays, power
plants, atomic energy is also in smoke detectors Ionization Smoke Detector. Radiation is known as
the process that results in a starting capacity in the form of particles (Particles) or waves (Waves)
The estimated scientific bodies in the United States that the average person receives the amount of
radiation doses of 360 ms RIM in the year and is considered the proportion of natural radiation
exposure of 80% and 20% of the second industrial radiation . How arise radiation : Atom consists of

Community Water Fluoride
Outline relevant biological knowledge, such as: biological concepts
Fluoridation
Fluoridation it is when Fluoride is put into the water system. In this context, it is worth noting that
dental health remains a major issue for much of the New Zealand population, and that economically
and from the equity perspective fluoridation remains the safest and most appropriate approach for
promoting dental public health. Community water fluoridation is a safe and effective way of
preventing tooth decay at a low cost. And fluoride is the top 13th most abundant element created in
the earth. Yet fluoride is not found in its pure form in nature only combined with other elements
therefore it is being added to the water supply. The role of fluoride is known to have a protective
effect against tooth decay by preventing Water or brushing teethwith fluoride toothpaste raises the

The intake of fluoride in excess can contribute to health issue known as fluorosis, which could be
unethical due to adverse effects Severe cases can be caused by exposure to water that is naturally
fluoridated to levels well above the recommended levels, or by exposure to other fluoride sources
such as brick tea or pollution from high fluoride coal. On the other hand, however it can cause
negative effects such as tumour, thyroid damage, bone issues and effects to the mental wellbeing.
Fluoride has been shown to be toxic and affects the brain and kidney when ingested. Rats fed for
one year with 1 ppm fluoride in their water, using either sodium fluoride or aluminium fluoride, had
morphological changes to their kidneys and brains, an increased uptake of aluminium in the brain,
and the formation of beta amyloid deposits which are characteristic of Alzheimer s disease.
Fluoride allows aluminium a heavy metal to cross the blood brain barrier which can therefore cause
these sickness associated with this

Real Estate Development Analysis
C LAMBCHOP DEVELOPMENTS DEVELOPMENT COMPARISON INTRODUCTION This
report provides feasibility, cash flow and various risk analysis of the returns of two proposed
developments with consideration for both Lambchop Developments, and for possible equity
investor, Idaho Investments. The report will provide a summary of the analysis, a comparison of
the developments and will make recommendations as to which development is most suitable both
for the developer or investor. Target rates of return have been established by both parties and are as

Analysts have calculated an IRR on equity of 33.8% which satisfies prospective investor Idaho
Investment s required IRR on equity of 15%. This is due to high levels of selling price growth
over the development period and again shows the strength of the luxury residential property
market. INVESTMENT RISK ANALYSIS Analysis suggests the following changes to current
figures would be required for the investor s equity return requirement to breakeven: Variable

into the proposed development would be relatively safe. Much like the development risk analysis,
significant rises in the developers required profit of 9% and a 23.6% rise in the land price are
unlikely and therefore can be discounted as likely outcomes. Key vulnerabilities would be rises in
construction costs and falls in gross realisations. Scenario analysis further analyses possible results

Thermohaline Ocean Circulation Case Study
1.Thermohaline Ocean circulation are the ocean currents that are directed by density. The density
in the water are altered by two factors; temperature and salinity. These factors emerge from the
heating and cooling of the ocean s surface. The production of sea ice and evaporation increases
salinity, while precipitation, runoff and sea ice melting reduce salinity. 2.If it is true that the
glaciers are melting, then the ocean water in the Atlantic will become less dense and warm. There
would be an extreme increase of fresh water. The freshwater entering the atlantic will dilute the
salinity causing the water to become less dense. In the atlantic sea ice is being shifted back by the
warmer surface currents. This causes a cut back of reflection... Show more content on

Heat is building up in these regions due to the deterioration of a convection cell in the Weddell
sea. The temperature difference between Antarctica and the Tropical ocean regions has caused an
raise of winds around antarctica and an expansion of the subtropical belt. This has also intensified
the tropical convection. Combined these factors have also worked together to boost the water
cycle, intensify high pressure spaces in the subtropic, and strengthen trade winds. 5.Marine
ecosystems could face the collapse of vertical mixing if THC collapses. This would be
detrimental because vertical mixing brings up vital nutrients for the depths of the ocean. So
therefore if it collapsed phytoplankton could suffer. Also it will disrupt currents, ruining the
routines of the wildlife. It will reduce their food supply and throw them of their nursing grounds.
Fish will diminish and so will fisheries. 6.The temperatures over land would be cooled, but mostly
in the Northern hemisphere, north atlantic and Nordic sea regions. The cooling would not be
perpetual, it s estimated to last for a few decades. Also some warming may take place to atone the

Framework Of Monetary Policy
The Fed retains a number of monetary policy tools that can be placed against crisis. The first set
of tools was Provision of short term liquidity to sound financial institutions and these activities

North Korea And South Korea
Everyone has been touched by the Korean wave in some way, whether it is by having a Samsung
phone to eating Korean barbeque at a Korean restaurant. North Americans tend to think that North
and South Korea share the same traditions and customs, when in fact they are complete opposites.
Going back thousands of years in Korean culture, North Korea and South were just a part of the
country Korea. Fast forwarding to the 1950 s the northern part of Korea started to become a
communist country. America swooped in and started to shape the southern part of Korea as an ally
for the United Statesand make them a part of the capitalist movement. After the Korean War, Korea
became divided into North and South Korea. North Korea became a communist... Show more

Following the stock market crash, South Korea decided to export its music and television to
make revenue from other countries. Korea is throwing all of its weight and billions of dollars
into making itself the number one exporter of pop culture in the world (Leong). The stock
market crash in 1997 left the country economically crippled, forcing the government to request a
57 billion dollar loan from the International Monetary Fund ( IMF). The president of that time,
Kim Dae Jung, began to think of a way that Korea could become different from other countries in
order to fix its unstable economy. Kim always was amazed with how the United States made its
revenue from films and how The United Kingdom made its money from stage musicals. (Leong)
This influenced Kim to use those two countries as benchmarks for creating a pop culture industry
for Korea. Kim worked with the notion that in order for other countries to buy into your pop
culture, you had to prove to them that your nation was cool. The Hallyu or Korean wave started in
southeast Asia and has now started its way to the United States and Europe. Now that it has made a
marketing statement in the United States its revenue has gotten even higher. Korean pop culture
exports have already gone from zero, in the early 1990 s, to 4.6 billion in revenue in 2012 (Hong).
Koreans have made much of that revenue from their music and the

In the libertine racing world Dom and Brian inhabit, they are constantly surrounded by
impossibly hot and willing women. They not only faithfully go home to Letty and Mia every
night, they re not even tempted with any hot women outside there. A well crafted film can
explore moral themes through characters that commit immoral acts. Other than my faith,
individual freedom is a value I hold higher than any other, and this is the theme that drives the
first five films more than any other. Like many of the cinema s greatest anti heroes, Dom, Letty,
and Mia live outside the law. The films, however, are not justifying or even making glamorous
their criminality. The proof of this is that while we admire their free spirits and refusal to
conform, we also root for them to reform their criminal ways. Dom represents the best of
America, and a dying breed in Hollywood: the rugged, stoic, masculine American individualist
with his own honour code. Dominic Toretto is Gary Cooper, John Wayne. He may live in East
L.A., but he s really a cowboy roaming the West living by his own rules. In a pop culture world
where a disturbing faith in government, narcissism, and ironic distance are treated as values, this
healthy old fashioned message that you got to be your own man in this world is something worth

The Consequences And Effects Of Safe Driving Saves Lives

Safe Driving Saves Lives
Safe driving seems to be very hard for us now. There so many accidents now due to the lack of
us being careful and not following the rules. We may think what we are doing isn t bad, or we
haven t been caught yet, so we must be good at it. The reality is that we need to think twice about
these things before something happens that can change our life or the life of someone else entirely.
We may think we can control the situation, but in reality, things can happen so fast that we wouldn t
even be able to react to them. The main reasons that cause fatalities and crashes are, driving under
the influence, speeding, texting while driving, and not wearing a seatbelt while driving. It doesn t
matter how long we have done it or if we haven t been caught, when it does happen it can be a very
bad outcome and can happen in a split second. I personally feel that these things have really become
a major factor and find it incumbent that something should be done to stop them from happening.
An article I read titled, Can Automation and Tougher Laws Save Lives? by Ellen Kennerly talks
about some of the causes of fatalities and crashes we tend to have so much of now. Kennerly
states, Nearly half of the 2015 fatalities involved an unbelted passenger or driver and about one
third were alcohol related. Wow, that is a big number. This quote clearly shows us that wearing our
seatbelt can save us from

Outline The Concept Of Skepticism
How do we know things for certain? How can I be certain of the things I consider to be true? The
only way we can know things for certain is through doubting the things we think we know, also
known as skepticism. In this paper I will argue that skepticism is the best way to know things for
certain because it acknowledges the presence of cognitive dissonance, self justification and the
things we can learn by questioning. I will proceed as follows: I will outline the concepts of
skepticism, according to Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson, and the concepts of rationalism,
according to RenГ© Descartes. Then, I will compare rationalism and skepticism by explaining
how challenging the ways we think we know stuff and cognitive dissonance can affect how we
perceive things through skepticism and describing Descartes many principles based off of reason
and how he uses these reasons to slowly affirm the things we must know for certain through
rationalism.
Epistemology is the study of how we attain knowledge or why we believe stuff in the way we do.
There are many branches in epistemology to explain how we learn and comprehend things, but
also how we can know things for certain. Skepticism, a concept within epistemology, is a way we
know the things we do with certainty. By using doubt and questioning how we perceive things, we
can examine the validity of the knowledge and ideas that people seem sure of or believe must be
true. By assessing things skeptically, it allows us to comprehend that

Antigone The Significance Of A Single Soul Research Paper
The Significance of a Single Soul How can one single person make a difference in the world? It
seems impossible that a single person can make a difference in such a large world but it happens
all the time. In history, many people have made very notable influences in the the way we live
today. They have indeed changed the world forever. Literature illustrates this very same
principle time and time again. In Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, for example, Brutus is burdened
with two choices: stay loyal to Caesar or join Cassius s conspiracy. Brutus eventually decides on
joining Cassius because he sees it as the healthier alternative for the Roman Republic. He murders
Caesar with the group and the repercussion is brutal. Antigone in the play by Sophocles makes the
choice of following divine law over civil law, deciding to bury her brother Polyneices corpse rather
than letting his soul fester in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People can completely ruin or end lives with relative ease. Dictators throughout history have
accomplished this through their selfish campaigns for their own gain. If Antigone hadn t been a
strong willed person, her family wouldn t have died. At the same time, If Creon wasn t also just
as strong willed, that outcome wouldn t be true all the same. If one of them would have broke
under the pressure sooner, the lives of the family would be saved. If one of them had just seen
the the trouble as not worth it and not as an issue to fight over, none of these lives would ve been
wasted. Brutus, after his group s assassination of Caesar, costs the lives of 100 senators, his
friends, his family, and many more soldiers during the subsequent civil war. If Brutus had not
joined the conspiracy, maybe Caesar would be king, but these hundreds of lives would ve been
unharmed. Brutus did not think the situation through with himself enough to realize the danger
posed from such an assassination and he paid the price for it, with his

Jane Eyre Gender
This purpose of this essay is to examine Charlotte Bronte s analysis of Victorian gender roles
found within Jane Eyre. For most readers, Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre is much more than an
iconic Gothic novel set within the Victorian Era. In my opinion, it s a story about a young
woman who not only defies gender role, but also the social class in an attempt to live her life; but
in her own way. On top of that, readers began to view Jane as a somewhat unexpected heroine of
Bronte s novel, that while facing innumerable obstacles within a tough social class, becomes
something more by the end of the story. I believe that another purpose for Bronte s novel is to
show readers that women like Jane Eyrecan rise above the oppressive environment of... Show more

Robert Johnson Cross Road Blues
Cross Road Blues was recorded in 1936 (Sullivan, 2013) and has been one of the most notable
stories ever told. The track features Robert Johnson himself in a variation of the 12 bar blues
structure as he deviates from the form to bare all emotion. His vocal prowess and slide guitar
mastery is expressed in the usage of microtonal intervals which was common in the style of Delta
Blues. Robert Johnson was a prolific songwriter who died at 27. His life and music was poorly
documented as he did not receive much public recognition during his lifetime. Not much was said
about this legendary musician, he was reported as average in all aspects except his extraordinary
musical talent, indulgence of alcohol as well... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, a connection between the blues and the hoodoo tradition is also seen throughout
history, most notably by Muddy Waters in Hoochie Coochie Man. (Schroeder, 2004) A counter
interpretation can also be made with the context of the socio political environment of
Mississippi in the 1930s. Lynching is an extrajudicial practice carried out as an informal
execution of an alleged criminal. In the 1900s, lynch mobs were a frequent way to highlight the
economic and political differences as the dominant group would suppress their competition in
this way, especially in the south. It was reported that African American men were lynched to
death in Mississippi on a weekly basis. Since 1874, the Jim Crow laws had been established and
stayed in effect until 1975. This legalizes the separation of races in the south of America and
condemned coloured Americans to a second class citizenship (Tischauser, 2012). These conditions
became the source of many blues numbers which often wail the gruesome experiences of victims
of systemic racism such as Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday, as it was a common reaction to perform
songs of protest against racial injustice in juke joints. Artists are often cryptic about their messages
to cloak topics that seemed unsafe to explore. (Santelli,

Lady Macbeth Feminism Essay
Feminist issues have always been controversial throughout history and gender topics remain
debatable matters in the context of the democratic society of the 21st Century. Over and over
again these representations are revisited, seeing just how many degrading representations the
modern day woman can overcome before finally adopting these stereotypes as the norm in her
everyday life. It is almost like a game to see how many obstacles women can overcome; each
obstacle yet another generalised representation of women in literature and film. Shakespeare
exampled this through the classic, 1606 play, Macbeth, as did director Sam Mendesin one of the
iconic James Bond films, 2012, Skyfall. Through classic pieces of literature and modern day film,...

Ironically, this is perceived through the exaggerated emotive language of having them replaced by
a direst cruelty . Lady Macbeth pleads, make thick my blood, stop up the passage to remorse ,
conveying that if her blood was made thicker the blood flow throughout her body would slow down
and natural human functions would shut down. Metaphorically she wants the flow of remorse and
pity to be cut off, and to be unhuman. Furthermore, she pleads that her breast milk is turned to bile.
A woman s breasts have the natural function to feed, and is a source of life for a growing baby,
while bile is a bitter, foul green coloured substance made in the liver which provides no
nourishment. Allegorically, this links back to Lady Macbeth s reversal of nature and challenge of
gender expectations. Shakespeare cleverly weaves this allegory through the play to symbolise a
warning to Lady Macbeth and or women of the 17th century, for what will happen if they rebel and
challenge societal expectations. Consequently, Macbeth gains in murderous masculinity, ordering
killing after killing, while Lady Macbeth lapses back into the feminine helplessness she had earlier
rejected. Madness, curiously, forces her back into the stereotypical femininity that

The Impact Of Abraham Lincoln s Emancipation Proclamation
President Abraham Lincoln, sometimes called The Great Emancipator , is best remembered today
for his Emancipation Proclamation. This proclamation, issued in September 1862 and enacted at
the start of 1863, freed all slaves in rebelling states in the Confederacy and had a dramatic impact
on the outcome of the Civil War. However, even though Lincoln was morally against the concept of
slavery, he had previously stated that he had no intention of abolishing it. Why did he explicitly
violate his own word? Multiple factors played a part in Lincoln s decision to emancipate the
slaves. Firstly, as the conflict progressed from a minor rebellion to a full blown civil war, Lincoln
felt that the Emancipation Proclamationwould strengthen the Union s... Show more content on

As the war progressed, however, it became clear that the war was not just a short rebellion and that
there was no hope of keeping the country from outright Civil War. At that point, it was clear that
the war was built on the issue of slavery, and Lincoln saw that by clarifying the Union s position on
slavery, he would strengthen their position in the war.
Although Lincoln might not have initially seen the Civil War as war about slavery, but the slaves
in the South disagreed they immediately took the war as an opportunity to gain freedom. Another
reason Lincoln issued the Emancipation proclamation was that by 1862, the emancipation of the
slaves would only benefit the Union while hurting the Confederacy. Upon the start of the fighting,
numerous slaves escaped to Union lines, assuming that the army would give them protection. This
presented a dilemma for the Union. The Fugitive Slave Act was still in place, which meant that any
general that encountered an escaped slave should have return them to their masters. Although some
generals did this, many others welcomed slaves into their armies, calling them contrabands of war .
Lincoln, who was sure that these defiant actions would further enrage the Confederacy yet had no
intention of returning the slaves to their masters, presented a number of alternative plans for the
slaves, including colonization (freed slaves would be delivered to Central

interest in. Another topic that was discussed that will impact feature students was budget cuts.
This impact them because it could impact their salary as well as impact what resources are

the mortgage market as well. According to the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML), 132,500
house purchase mortgage transactions have benefited from the holiday; this is the equivalent of
25% of the overall 486,400 house purchase loans in the period. Buyers have saved 173 million
from the holiday rather than the 600 million the government forecasted. The success is
questionable as the incentive was supposedly directed at lower income areas to the North, the
Midlands, Wales and Scotland where as, the majority of the benefits have gone to the richer areas in
the SE. As this area in particular was hit by the recession the least and where the housing market is
the strongest, the governmental loss of the taxation seems to have been wasted. The holiday ended
on the 31st December 2009. Although there has been a brief stimulation in the current housing
market the number of transactions is still at an all time low. The figures may fall further now that
stamp duty has been reinstated, meaning that the government may have to explore other options.

Normative Definition Of Deviance
The first question deals with the issue of deviance being defined by a normative definition. The
fist major issue with that is in the definition. We all define deviance as something else. What
someone else finds to be deviant another person will find to be totally normal. That is where the
issue lies. How can we have something called normative definition of deviance. Is it what the
society as a whole thinks are normal or should we take the things that some small groups also
consider to be deviant. Also, this gets into when does something become deviant. If some people
believe that sex before marriage is a deviant act and other feel that it is not how can we come to
a consensus of what is a deviant act. This why is the act normal just because they have gotten
married. Would it still be considered normal if the couple was 12 and decided to get married to
have sex? They are still in a marriage and have decided to not have sex before that marriage. This
for most would be considered a deviant act in America, but if we go to other parts of the world
where the life span is not that long than the act becomes less deviant. So yes, in a way society
defines deviance, but that definition cannot simply be something that some people consider
deviant. Everything is considered deviant by someone, and everything is not considered deviant
by someone else. Someone will always be willing to condemn an action and someone will be ready
to defend that same action. It is not safe to say that just

Cooper Union Conflict
When Abraham Lincoln gave his Cooper Union Address it is doubtful that he knew its impact on
the country and ultimately the future of the Union. In his Cooper Union Address, future president
Abraham Lincoln thoroughly rebuked the southern Democrats Stephen A. Douglas statements
about the Republicans slavery stance by using not only the oppositions wording against them, he
supported his arguments with true examples sited from the signatories of the Constitution and their
past voting record, from information gleaned during his career as a lawyer, and from his sense of
honor and ethics. Abraham Lincolnand the Republican Partyhad some very strong constituents,
mainly those with very strong Free Soil tendencies. For this reason along with personal beliefs on
Lincoln s part the Republicans, led by Lincoln in the presidential election, were strongly against the
expansion of slavery into the territories
By using past precedents Lincoln gave some serious weight to his arguments on the nature of the
Republican s stance on slavery and the federal government s rights to limit slavery in the Territories.
Since the opposing party s argument was that the framers knew more about the issue of slavery and
its expansion than they did now. Lincoln turned this argument for the use of the Republicans by
explaining the voting records of the majority of the men who signed the Constitution. When the
question of slavery in the Northwest Territory became an issue Lincoln sites the fact that of

Techniques Used For Extracting Useful Information From Images
The main objective over here focusses on the enhanced image searching which can be carried out by
performing few of the existing techniques used for extracting useful information from images.
These techniques include image classification, Feature Extraction, Face detection and recognition
and image retrieval etc.
4.1 Image Classification
After the image has been processed using the 3 frameworks proposed the image needs to be
classified which is done using the image classification technique of image mining. Classification
can be carried out by applying the method of supervised classification and unsupervised
classification but here we will mainly focus upon supervised classification.
Supervised Classification

Various trees for example R tree, R* tree, R+tree, SR tree etc are used in such cases.
4.5 Face detection and Recognition
The face plays an important role in today s world in the identification of the person. Face
recognition is the process concerned with the identification of one or more person in images or
videos by analyzing the patterns and comparing them with one another. Algorithms that are used for
face recognition basically extract facial features and compares them to a face database to find the
best and suitable match. Application of face detection and recognition includes biometrics, security
and surveillance systems.
V.RESULT AND ANLYSIS
We have taken six images which includes two Face based image, two Content based image, and
one feature based image and the last image which is a combined image which includes all three
types i.e. Face, content and feature. The search results obtained when the above mentioned six
images were searched for on a search engine is shown in Table I. The following table shows the
time taken in the searching process of the images:

Hong Kong (HK) is one of the most crowded cities in the world, with almost the highest vehicle
density. It has long been criticized for its bad air quality compared to its advanced economy. With
the recently hazardous air pollution in China mainland, HK has been affected as well for its
geographic neighborhood. The Air quality readings recently (PM2.5: 60Вµg/mВі) have exceeded
the loose local standard (50Вµg/mВі), 3 times of WHO s recommended standards (20Вµg/mВі).

Another factor is the power or influence each stakeholder group has on the running of the whole
project. Of course the groups with highest influences deserve more attention. And the groups with
less power or influences need enough monitor and involvement.

Graph 1: Stakeholder influence amp; Support
As we can observe from graph 1, the key stakeholders are 3 groups: Government departments
(Transport and Financial); Public transportation sector (fleet operators, taxi drivers and passengers);
competitors (other EV automakers, like Nissan).
Among the key stakeholders, government departments could be the key role of decision making.
They have the willingness of adopting EV taxi / bus under current urgent circumstances, but BYD
is only one of the candidate automakers. Also, to what extent they support EV taxi /bus may decide
the start and success of the project, such as the quantity of new dedicated taxi licenses or
enforcement of taxi replacement; bus line adjustments and old vehicle replacement; monetary and
other non monetary incentives. As we mentioned in table 2, their influences and

Insidious Flowers Attract the Greatest Beauty
John Steinbeck s East of Eden tells the story of the lives of many people, each chapter focusing on
a different person or group. The proponents of the novel trail along the characters and displays a
contrast between them. The characters struggle between evil and good not only with themselves,
but with each other. In his story, East of Eden, Steinbeck places Cathy s demonic and deceiving
personality together with Adam s pure hearted temperament to demonstrate contradictions in nature.
Steinbeck uses the calm, fresh setting of Salinas Valleyto create a distinctive atmosphere. The novel
follows the characters and their families in North America. The beginning of the novel consists of
an atmosphere in which both Adam Trask and Cathy Ames live in. They both live on the east
coast and explore its tenebrous tangibility. Adam lives a life of fear and pain in the east: first in the
gruesome and bloody war, and then with his brother Charles. While this is detrimental to Adam, the
gloominess and susceptibility of the east coast is perfect for Cathy. She learns that there she can
use ... manipulation [to] gain and keep power over anyone, (Steinbeck, 75). Eventually, Adam and
Cathy meet and Adam falls in love with her. Once Adam tells Cathy that he will take her to
California, she is wary and hesitant. Cathy makes it known to Adam that she, ... didn t want to [go

Comparing Colonial Virginia and Colonial New England s...
I believe colonial New England had more of an effect on the American character than Virginia for
several reasons. First they promoted more of the values that have transcended into modern day
America such as religious toleration, their educational ideas and their focus on the importance of
family. And we shouldn t forget the fact that the American Revolution began in New England so in
essence the America we know today would not exist without New England.
First off, colonial New England was more family based, as I believe America is today. When
immigrants landed in New England they brought with them their families, expecting this place to
become their permanent place of residence. Therefore their communities were more tight nit and ...

Second, the New England colonies were founded by many who were seeking religious freedom,
therefore the New England colonies were more open minded regarding religion. For instance, the
first religious toleration act was passed in Maryland in 1649 by the by the assembly of the
Province of Maryland. This act mandated religious toleration. Rhode Island was also seen as a
colony of free thinkers and a place for religious toleration. So there was simply a lot of diversity
in New England, the vast majority were Protestant Christians however there were significant
numbers of Roman Catholics in Maryland and Delaware, as well as a small amount of Jews, most
of which lived in Rhode Island. So therefore it was New England that began acting upon one of
this country s founding ideals, the ideal of freedom of religion.
Our system of education is still based of a lot of colonial New England s system of education.
The first public schools of the new world began in New England with the passing of what is
referred to as the Olde Deluder Satan Act which specified that schools be started and publicly
supported when town populations were large enough. So basically they would build a school if
the population of a particular are became large enough and the demand from the local citizenship
was high enough. Whereas those in the Virginia area s of the new world were either home
schooled (often poorly) or immediately

The Glass Ceiling and How Gender Discrimination Affects Women
The Glass Ceiling and How Gender Discrimination Affects Women
Does Father really know best? In Corporate America, men seem to want full control. Our
organizations have been created by men for men and they have great opposition to women
infiltrating their management positions. Men have created glass ceilings for women in the
workplace. A glass ceilingis an artificial barrier that allows women to see the top of the corporate
ladder but at the same time denies them access to the higher rungs of that ladder. Women keep
hitting their heads on the glass ceiling until they develop so many knots on their heads that
eventually they give up on their goals and ambitions. Father knows best! I don t think so! More

As you see, educational attainment is a key ingredient to shattering the glass. Women are
beginning to see that the best way to get to the top of any type of business is to create their own
business. In women owned businesses today, the women seem to accept any business background
shortcomings and seek education and training before they take the leap. Women try to base their
decisions on logic and on sound business decisions. They do not seem to shoot from the hip the
way many men do in the business world.
In corporations that have dared to hire today s businesswoman, it seems these women officials are
easier to work with in a consensus team building environment. Women tend to offer higher wages
to their employees and fight for better benefits for them as well. Women know the need for
flexible hours, childcare, and better insurance. All in all, it seems that women understand the
problems of their employees. They work hard to be number one and in turn make their employees
feel like they are number one to them.In most corporations today, the glass ceiling goes unnoticed
and certainly unquestioned. Corporations boast of being a great place for women to work, but
women are always middle management, not higher management. Women are only 2% of the top
wage earners in Fortune 500 companies, according to the Department of Labor. Of these women
executives, 60% of them are sexually harassed by male

A diet rich in fiber will lower cholesterol levels and lessen the risk for certain cancers, and heart
disease. The fiber containing groups that fell short of the recommended intake were fruits and
vegetables. The amount of fruits I took in was lower than the vegetable intake. The specific foods
that provided the most fiber in my meals were the vegetables and the oatmeal.
Dietary Modifications The changes that I would make to increase the fiber in my diet, would be
to include more fruits and vegetables in my daily intake. The daily recommended intake of fiber
was 21 g. The most fiber I consumed in one day was 15 g. or 73 percent of the recommended daily
intake. I need to consume more fruits and vegetables in an effort to achieve the proper dietary fiber

Speech On Orcas In Captivity
Orcas in Captivity It s a average, nice summer day and you and your family decide to see killer
whales at SeaWorld. Once you arrive to the place and see the large animals in the tank you re
fascinated by their large size. Killer whales, or orca whales, are large marine mammals that can
be found in every ocean around the world. They can swim for hundred of miles and routinely
dive up to 300 ft ( Should Orca Whales Be Kept in Captivity ). They also live in large family
groups known as pods that they will rarely ever leave. Seeing these large animals in the tanks
that they make seem small due to their large size and with other whales along with marks,
mainly bite marks and flopped over dorsal fin for the males, make it questionable if they even
should be here and if these other whales are family in the seemingly makeshift pod. Orcas
should not be in captivity because of health problems, lack of space in the tanks, and most of
them are taken from their homes in the wild where their true family is. Orca whales should not
be in captivity because of health issues they face in captivity. Some people believe orcas should
be in captivity because they are safe from hunters. Also data on breeding and reproduction can be
collected which is impossible to get in the wild. However, orcas live unhealthy, shorter lives in
captivity. According to the article ( Should Orca Whales Be Kept in Captivity ) it states, Orca
whales in the wild have a lifespan equal to that of a human. In

Evaluation Of A Classroom Management
Classroom management is a set of methods and skills used by educators to assist students in being
more organized, alert, thoughtful, disciplined as well as being more academically productive.
Classroom management when used correctly and effectively can help teachers maintain and control
behaviors that may hinder learningfor the class or a particular student, while at the same time
maximizing behaviors that enhance learning for the students (Classroom Management, 2014). A
practice that can contribute to an effective classroom management could be an entry routine. An
entry routine is a method that teachers use to establish a consistent schedule that begins when the
students enter the classroom each and every day. This routine could be pre arranged seat
assignments, students passing in assignments due, having books, paper and pencils ready or
having a warm up activity at the beginning of class. This type of routine helps maintain order in
the classroom and avoids wasting valuable learning time at the beginning of the class (Classroom
Management, 2014). In addition to entry routine, another excellent example of classroom
management at the beginning of class can be a Do Now. A Do Now is an activity that the students
are given at the start of class, which is usually a written response to a question on the board. This
activity gets students ready for class by getting the students focused and prepared for instructions
(Classroom Management, 2014). A final example of a

The Origin Of The Peoples Of Tanzania And Kenya
The Maasai are thought of as the general cattle herders of Africa, are nomadic and pastoralists.
However, due to the increase of the population in the culture, the loss of land has had an effect on
the cattle raising of their lifestyle, shown in a decline over the years (Ndaskoi). Still, Cattle, and
traditional values are held in high regards with the Maasai.
On the western side of the world, many see these people as fierce and elegant. They are tall and
extravagantly dressed, covering themselves in red pigment of which they create themselves. The
Maasai again, are prominently cattle herders, but they do practice agriculture. Growing corn, even
raising bird game, including Ostrich (Spear).

More than twenty variants of Maa exist (Spencer).
Legends in the Maasai culture foretell much about the history of present day Maasai belief
system. The stories told explain the ascent from a massive crater came a prophet magician
known as Laibon. Laibon climbed from this monstrous crater and the cliffs surrounding it.
Stories also describe the death or murder of a giant known as Oltatuani. Many of these stories
share similarities with present day western biblical history. For example in western culture
depictions of man in the bible shows, man was created and there was Adam, and there was Eve.
Similarly, Maasai believe that in the beginning, two tribes existed. One of which was all
females, the other all males. The woman s tribe was known as the Moroyok, as the Maasai
explain it. The Moroyok raised antelope and eland, this is referred to by the Maasai as the first
species of cattle to exist for their culture. In these folktales, women had befriended elephants who
helped them sweep corrals and brought branches for which they used to build homes. Yet, this
story ends with the fall of the women s independence, as the herds of elephants left, and their
livestock vanished from them. This is where the men, and their tribe called the Morwak, became
the fallback sex for the Moroyok. The woman in times of need would live with the Morwak, as
they could not fend for themselves, and since

When The Wolves Came In The Gettin Analysis
Constant separation and tension between blacks and whites is at the forefront of Kyle Abraham s
When the Wolves Came In. Performed first in 2015, the piece consists of three narratives including
When the Wolves Came In, Hallowed, and The Gettin . This reflection and interpretation will be
solely based on the third installment of the piece. The Gettin brings racial issues into view through
the different interactions between each performer and through dancer and background projection
relations. The relationship and mood between each performer depending on the others race is
extremely prevalent throughout The Gettin . For many portions of the choreography, specifically,
when the stage is made up of only African Americans the mood is much more positive and happy.

Maya Angelou s Poems Essay
Maya Angelou s Poems
Maya Angelou s poetry occupies a very special position in her development as a writer (Chow 1).
As a child, Angelou went through five years of complete silence after she was raped at the age of
seven years old, by a man named, Mr. Freeman. As a result of telling about her traumatic
experience, her uncle s literally kicked the man that raped her to death. Beings she spoke of her
traumatic experience and the result of the man dying, she then imagined that her voice had the
potential to kill. Thanks to her teacher, Bertha Flowers, at school Angelou started writing poetry as
a means of expression of her life events through her poetry (Chow 1). Poetry thus played an
essential part in the recovery of her voice, which in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She also conveys in this poem that hard times and painful past experiences aren t reasons to
avoid living life, but yet is a part of what makes one s life . She uses death as a metaphor for life
s battles in her recurring phrase I keep on dying , but adds the idea of starting over and having
another chance to overcome battles that are recurring in her life (12). The title of this particular
poem, The Lesson is very significant to the poem within itself. The lesson that is preached in this
poem is about the constant courage and determination in one s life to defeat and her refusal to be
overwhelmed by the challenges of life. Her hope as a determined woman will get her through her
personal and physical tribulations, and even though each challenge in life offers her up a small
dose of death, every time, it cannot keep her or anybody technically speaking down permanently.
When there is a will, there is a way and Angelou always made a way to get back on her feet and
keep it moving.
Mayo Angelou explains the reality between struggles and the beauty of overcoming them in her
poem called Woman Work . This poem is about a mother, preferably, a single mother that has
children that she takes care of. The poem starts off by saying, I ve got children to tend / The clothes
to mend / The floor to mop / The food to shop / Then the chicken to fry / The baby to dry / I got

beliefs. Suicide, for example, should not send you to heaven. Another example is right before
death the characters ask for forgiveness from God so they can try and go to heaven. These are
pieces of evidence that provide cultural and religious focuses into Hamletto develop a better
understanding.
In Denmark in the late 14th century of Hamlet God has power and authority. For example, Hamlet
was about to kill Claudius and chose not to because Claudius was praying and had he been asking
for forgiveness, then he would be going to Heaven. As said by Hamlet, Now

The Marriage Is A Private Affair By Chinua Achebe
This is a review for one of the most influencing and wonderful works of Chinua Achebe, the
Marriage is a Private Affair which is about a man named Nnaemeka from the Igbo (Ibo) tribe
who wants to marry an Ibibio woman, Nene, who lives in Lagos; a cosmopolitan and the capital
city of Nigeria. But his father Okeke opposes and does not want the idea of their marriage. This
short story is in the most famous compilation of short stories of Achebe which is the Girls at War
and Other Stories (1972); set during the chaotic Nigerian Civil War in 1967 1970. For us to have
more deep understanding of this story, let us first see a brief background of its author Chinua
Achebe. Chinua Achebe came from the Igbo tribe, an ethnic group mostly living in the... Show

Okeke, Nnaemeka s father, opposes their marriage because their traditional way of marriage is
the parents are the one who arrange the engagement. Moreover, one could only love a person
who speaks the same tongue as he/she. And according to Okeke, marriage is not all about love.
What matters is the one who Nnaemeka will marry should have a good character and a Christian
background like Ugoye which Okeke wants for his son. And this provokes the anger of Okeke.
Okeke does not really like Nene, especially when he heard from his son that Nene is a Christian
but a teacher in a Girls School in Lagos because it is opposing to his Christian belief which St.
Paul says in the Bible that women should not teach and should keep silence only. But saying
these does not stop Nnaemeka from marrying Nene because for him, you marry a person because
of love. We could already see here in this part of the story the clash between two generations; the
old and the young or new. Achebe shows that there are always conflicts between the old and young
/new generations. Okeke is the representation of the old generation of Nigeria who preserves the
old or native traditions of his country while Nnaemeke and Nene are the representation of the young
/new generation who are greatly driven and influenced by the western colonization. But in the first

Celebrities And Ordinary People
Celebrities and ordinary people are identified in different categories. Celebrities are the elite or
ones who have a prodigious influence on the public. Famous people range from artist all the way
down to politicians. Ordinary people are common citizens of the world. Conventionally, this refers
to one who conducts a rudimentary life with no authentic exposure to spotlight attention. This may
additionally mean ordinary peoplehave not accomplished as much as a celebrity. Although
celebrities and ordinary people hold different designations and lives, they are not much different
from one another. Sure enough, celebrities and regular people are disunited by an abundance of
things. Of the many things many things, the more conspicuous are lifestyle, privacy, and wealth,
nevertheless, it is those very qualities that make famous people and mundane people homogeneous.
Celebrities and ordinary people both have kindred lifestyles. Celebrities carry out relationships
just like ordinary people and enjoy quality time with their friends and family. Every human longs
for the fundamentals of love and family and longs for a simple lifestyle when it comes down to
desiring healthy relationships. Most celebrities appreciate doing simple things such as staying
home, enjoying friends and family, and watching television. Similarly, ordinary people and

The Rights of Homesexuals to Serve in the Military Essay
After the eighteen long years of the Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy, which limits gays from being
open about their sexuality in the military services, was finally brought to its end. President Barack
Obama signed the reverse of the Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy on December 22, 2010. It was also
stated that The services will no longer separate service members under DADT (U.S. Department of
Defense). Nevertheless, homosexuals should have the opportunity to serve in the military because
the job had nothing to do with anyone s sexual orientation.
The plan was first announced in 1993 as a compromise after President Bill Clinton wanted to
remove the military s ban on gays. Though, Congress had its opponents on the turn and so were

Mechanisms of Data Communication and Signals
Data communication refers to the transmission of electronic information over shared
communication mediums. This transmission can be generated from electronic sources such as
computers, phones, cameras and even audio sources such as speakers. Due to the various types of
sources from which data is derived, each source requires a mechanism that gathers and prepares the
data for transmission. This may include digitizing data, or encoding to ensure the privacy of the
data during transmission. This data is then passed along a communications channel to the
destination, or receiver, in the form of an analog or digitalsignal and mixed with other multiple
pieces of data through a shared channel. In order to avoid confusion, mechanisms must be in place
that can identify each source and ensure that the data sent from those sources arrive at the intended
destination and not become lost and confused with other data in the same channel. (Comer, 2014).
The propagation of data is accomplished by conducting energy in the form of electromagnetic
waves called signals. Depending on the source and the devices that operate in the communication
channels, analog and digital are the two types of signals transmitted to the receiver. Signals travel
along different types of media including copper wire, fiber optics, and space. (Cao, n.d.). Analog
signals can be found in audio sources including voices, telephones, and cameras. They are
continuously variable and potentially

In The Penal Colony
In the short story, In the Penal Colony by Franz Kafka, we are introduced to a horrible device
that is used to torture and execute prisoners. This apparatus does this by repeatedly writing the
word of the law that the condemned person had broken into their flesh like a bizarre tattoo artist
made of pain and blood. It is both sickening and fascinating to read the account of how this
machine operates from the character named the Officer as he describes in gross details just what
this monster of metal does to someone. But, why would Kafka write about these grisly details of
blood and torn flesh? It was a metaphor for what happens when a punishmentsystem has lost sight
of reform and justice. In this paper, we will see how the machine is many metaphors of fear,
injustice and what happens when a justice system becomes one of torture and about how people
can view the system and how it may seem unfair to the common person about to face it. In the
essay, Metaphors we live by Metaphors we live by (Lakoff Johnson 2011), it states, Metaphor is
for most people a device of the poetic imagination and the rhetorical flourish a matter of
extraordinary rather than ordinary language. (page 3) When an author takes pen in hand, they make
art out of their words and take language and turn it into many extraordinary things. By doing this,
they can put hidden meaning or messages in the stories they write. Sometimes this is to make a
point about the political or social environment they see in

Michael MooreВґs Bowling For Columbine Essay
Michael MooreВґs Bowling For Columbine
Bowling For Columbine is a well directed documentary that informs people about gun violence in
America. Michael Moore is successful in showing that America has been going through many gun
tragedies; and portrays the sense that America s problems are out of control. He conveys this
through informative facts, images, and comparisons.
Throughout the film Michael Moore throws many cold facts on the screen that makes it obvious that
the strong nation of America is unruly. One of the facts that stand out the most is the number of
deaths caused by guns in America per year. In comparison to the other countries, America has an
outstanding of 11,127 gun related deaths a year. This is ten times... Show more content on

A perfect example is that just before Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold shot up the school, America
was dropping bombs on Kosovo. In addition, it was the most bombs dropped in that war. If the
father, the almighty American government cannot keep its composure, why does it expect its
children the citizens to be able to keep theirs? The development of an image of what the nation of
America truly looks like.
Michael Moore tries to prove his point by showing images that are very intense. The most
intense image in my mind is the picture of a deformed child who has experienced the wrath of
Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols after bombing the federal government building in
Oklahoma City. It can be concluded that Timothy and Terry did not have the intention of hurting
children; rather they were after the federal government. This is the problem in our society;
Timothy and Terry were willing to sacrifice the souls of young children for their own cause,
portraying a lot about their wild violent minds. Moreover the picture of the destroyed building in
which 168 people died, shows so much recklessness. The fact that two men were able to organize
a mass destruction portrays the undisciplined mindset that they are in at the time of the crime,
such acts of violence lays the ground work for the film showing how America is basically
repeating the past. Now that an image of America is finally developed, Moore goes on to look at
how America compares to

Janie s Quest in Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora...
Finding one s soul mate is a difficult and lengthy process for most, as it is for Janie in the novel
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. She marries Logan Killicks, Joe Starks,
and Tea Cake Woods who seem to be alike; however, the motives for the actions they each take are
completely different. All three husbands are similar in the way that they all have expectations of
Janie as a wife. Logan Killicks, Janies first husband, has expectations of Janie. His motives for his
expectations though, are because he wants her to help out on the farm. Logan shows this
expectation by saying, Naw Ah needs two mules dis yeah. Taters is goin tuh be taters in de fall.

Another way all three husbands are similar is when they abuse her. Logan is motivated by his
pure dislike of Janie. At first he did love her, but a month or so after he began to treat Janie like a
labor slave and tries to threaten her and make her miserable. An example is when he says, Don t
you change too many words wid me dis mawnin , Janie, do Ah ll take and change ends wid yuh!
Heah, Ah just as good as take you out de white folks kitchen and set you down on yo royal
diasticutis and you take and low rate me! Ah ll take holt uh dat ax and come in dere and kill
yuh! You better dry up in dere! Ah m too honest and hard workin for anybody in yo family, dat s
de reason you don t want me! (25). He shows no real feelings toward her and somewhat loathes
her. Similarly, Joe Starks abuses Janie as well, but he does so for control over her. Joe feels very
threatened and pride deprived when Janie makes him feel like less of a man and so, fights her
until she submits to him and he feels satisfied. He relates her all the women in the world and
children to animals, and like in this quote states, So when the bread didn t rise, and the fish wasn
t quite done at the bone, and the rice was scorched, he slapped Janie until she had a ringing in her
ears and told her about her brains before he stalked on back to the store (57 58). That is how bad he
desires control he will fight with her over anything, even a poorly cooked meal. Tea Cake, also,
abuses Janie. The way

Comparing The Gospel Of John
With the changing of tides shortly after Jesus ascension, the death of the all the disciples but John
and the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem, a new way of sharing the Gospel was needed. The
reason for this new means of communicating the Gospel was because no one was left who had
actually walked with Jesus. Therefore, John the disciple throws a rummage sale in writing his
account of Jesus; which was so much different than the other three Gospel writers. His purpose
was for people to know what it means to follow Jesus without him being physically present as he
was for the twelve. Specifically, John focuses on the personal conversations of Jesus and others
(Peterson 2); so much so that 90% of John s book is unique, contains no parables

Essay Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, commonly known as SARS, first came onto the scene in
November 2002 in mainland China. The respiratory disease is characterized by fever and
coughing much like flu. While at first the etiological agent was unknown, through persistent
research scientists discovered it to be a coronavirus. This causative agent created history because
it was the first time it has ever been found in the human population. This coronavirus raised many
questions for scientists as to why the pathogen causes morbidity and mortality. (Fidler) When a
person is infected by the disease there is normally an incubation period of two to seven days. Once
this time is up symptoms such as fever, chills, and body aches will arise.... Show more content on

When it comes to protecting and treating yourself from the disease, it first starts with the
immune system. The five physical barriers of the immune system are there attempts of the body
from keeping a virus from entering the system in the first place. Specifically for spread of the
coronavirus, the respiratory tract, the eyes, and the skin play a large role. In the respiratory
tract there is mucous and cilia that try to keep the bad guys out, while at the same time eye
lashes and blinking keep potential predators out. The skin too plays a role by being dry and not
providing a good harboring place to many viruses. However, in the case that the body does
become infected, the body makes antibodies to fight the disease. While there is no cure for
SARS, there is treatment. The treatment for SARS is just like any other respiratory virus, such
as influenza. If proper treatment is obtained in a timely fashion, the symptoms of the SARS virus
can be greatly reduced. Right now the reported number of those affected by SARS is significantly
lower than it was in 2003. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 8,098 people were
infected with the SARS virus in 2003. Of this number, 774 resulted in death. In a society where
AIDS, diarrhea, and tuberculosis kills millions every

1.Fundamentals of Scientific Management
1.1 Introduction The principal object of management should be to secure the maximum prosperity
for the employer, coupled with the maximum prosperity for each employee. It would seem to be
so self evident that maximum prosperity for the employer, coupled with maximum prosperity for
the employee, ought to be the two leading objects of management, that even to state this fact
should be unnecessary. No one can be found who will deny that in the case of any single
individual the greatest prosperity can exist only when that individual has reached his highest state
of efficiency; that is, when he is turning out his largest daily output. Why is it, in the face of the
self evident fact that maximum prosperity can exist only as the result of the determined effort of
each workman to turn out each day his largest possible day s work, that the great majority of our
men are deliberately doing just the opposite, and that even when the men have the best of intentions

Literature Review On Sparse Group Lasso
b.Sparse Group Lasso
The sparse group lasso is also known as a special case of group lasso that place an additional
penalty 1 norm of the coefficient vector. The sparse group lasso allows the overlaps in the
groups. The sparse set of group is generated by group lasso. The models in the group if included
then all the variables in the group become non zero. Sometimes we like to have both the sparsity
of group and within each group, i.e. between and within the group. Such as example, in genes
expression we like to identify particular useful genes among the number of genes, this is the
focus of sparse group lasso. The sparsity in sparse group lasso is exists in two types, first is group
wise sparsity and the other is within group sparsity. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

V.CONCLUSION. Feature selectionis a step that finds the subset from the original feature set to
some criteria of instance importance. In this paper the concept of group feature selection is
review that specifies different approaches in this ground. This literature review examines the
recent work of feature selection where feature posses certain group structure. The methods found
for group feature selection have discussed here. The general approaches of group feature selection
such as group lasso and sparse group lasso are described. The group lasso is an extension of
Standard lasso which tend to perform group selection, if the group of features is selected then all the
features in the groups are selected. Sparse group lasso takes the advantage of group lasso and
produces an efficient solution with simultaneous between and within group. The group feature
selection tries to minimize the redundant and irrelevant features from the group to decreases the
computational time. The above dimensional categorization of group feature selection algorithm give

Adult Basic Education Programs For Adult Education
Adult Basic Education programs exist in the United States to provide second chance educational
services to adults 18 and older who test below a twelve grade level in reading, language, or math.
This is made possible through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which was
signed into law by President Obama on July 22, 2014, revising and reauthorizing the Workforce
Reinvestment Act (WIA) of 1998 (H.R. 803, 2014). Title II of the WIA established the current
accountability standards for adult education programs in the United States that include state level
development of student outcome based performance standards to determine program effectiveness.
Outcome measures include adult student educational functioning level gains in reading, math, and
language literacy; student gains in the skills and knowledge areas needed to become employable;
an increase in adult student parental involvement, and completion of high schoolequivalency
diplomas. These outcomes reflect the goals of the WIA adult education program, which are to
improve English literacy and language skills needed for self sufficiency, to assist in completion of
high school, and to place adults into postsecondary and employment training programs (Condelli,
Castillo, Seburn, Deveaux, 2002). WIOA expands and encourages better coordination between the
primary federal programs that support workforce development, employment services, adult
education, and vocational rehabilitation services, and establishes

  • 5. Thermohaline Ocean Circulation Case Study 1.Thermohaline Ocean circulation are the ocean currents that are directed by density. The density in the water are altered by two factors; temperature and salinity. These factors emerge from the heating and cooling of the ocean s surface. The production of sea ice and evaporation increases salinity, while precipitation, runoff and sea ice melting reduce salinity. 2.If it is true that the glaciers are melting, then the ocean water in the Atlantic will become less dense and warm. There would be an extreme increase of fresh water. The freshwater entering the atlantic will dilute the salinity causing the water to become less dense. In the atlantic sea ice is being shifted back by the warmer surface currents. This causes a cut back of reflection... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The temperature difference between Antarctica and the Tropical ocean regions has caused an raise of winds around antarctica and an expansion of the subtropical belt. Combined these factors have also worked together to boost the water cycle, intensify high pressure spaces in the subtropic, and strengthen trade winds. 5.Marine ecosystems could face the collapse of vertical mixing if THC collapses. This would be detrimental because vertical mixing brings up vital nutrients for the depths of the ocean. So therefore if it collapsed phytoplankton could suffer. Also it will disrupt currents, ruining the routines of the wildlife. It will reduce their food supply and throw them of their nursing grounds. Fish will diminish and so will fisheries. 6.The temperatures over land would be cooled, but mostly in the Northern hemisphere, north atlantic and Nordic sea regions. North Americans tend to think that North and South Korea share the same traditions and customs, when in fact they are complete opposites. Going back thousands of years in Korean culture, North Korea and South were just a part of the country Korea. Fast forwarding to the 1950 s the northern part of Korea started to become a communist country. America swooped in and started to shape the southern part of Korea as an ally for the United Statesand make them a part of the capitalist movement. After the Korean War, Korea became divided into North and South Korea. North Korea became a communist... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Following the stock market crash, South Korea decided to export its music and television to make revenue from other countries. Korea is throwing all of its weight and billions of dollars into making itself the number one exporter of pop culture in the world (Leong). The stock market crash in 1997 left the country economically crippled, forcing the government to request a 57 billion dollar loan from the International Monetary Fund ( IMF). The president of that time, Kim Dae Jung, began to think of a way that Korea could become different from other countries in order to fix its unstable economy. Kim always was amazed with how the United States made its revenue from films and how The United Kingdom made its money from stage musicals. (Leong) This influenced Kim to use those two countries as benchmarks for creating a pop culture industry for Korea. Kim worked with the notion that in order for other countries to buy into your pop culture, you had to prove to them that your nation was cool. The Hallyu or Korean wave started in southeast Asia and has now started its way to the United States and Europe. Now that it has made a marketing statement in the United States its revenue has gotten even higher. Korean pop culture exports have already gone from zero, in the early 1990 s, to 4.6 billion in revenue in 2012 (Hong). Koreans have made much of that revenue from their music and the ... Fast And Furious Argumentative Themes Justin Lin s film entitled Fast and Furious portrays when a crime brings them back to the main streets of Los Angeles, fugitive ex convict Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and agent Brian O Conner (Paul Walker) reignite their high octane feud. However, when a common enemy rears his head, Dom and Brian must learn how to work together and trust one another in order to defeat him. Pop culture is everything. Movies, of course, are the ultimate in pop culture is a combination of almost every known art form turned into a powerful fury of sound and image that impact everything from t shirt sales to politics to how we see ourselves as men, women and Americans. In the libertine racing world Dom and Brian inhabit, they are constantly surrounded by impossibly hot and willing women. They not only faithfully go home to Letty and Mia every night, they re not even tempted with any hot women outside there. A well crafted film can explore moral themes through characters that commit immoral acts. Other than my faith, individual freedom is a value I hold higher than any other, and this is the theme that drives the first five films more than any other. Like many of the cinema s greatest anti heroes, Dom, Letty, and Mia live outside the law. The films, however, are not justifying or even making glamorous their criminality. The proof of this is that while we admire their free spirits and refusal to conform, we also root for them to reform their criminal ways. Dom represents the best of America, and a dying breed in Hollywood: the rugged, stoic, masculine American individualist with his own honour code. Dominic Toretto is Gary Cooper, John Wayne. He may live in East L.A., but he s really a cowboy roaming the West living by his own rules. • 10. The Consequences And Effects Of Safe Driving Saves Lives Muhammad Chechi Professor Binder Philosophy 12 30 November 2017 Safe Driving Saves Lives Safe driving seems to be very hard for us now. There so many accidents now due to the lack of us being careful and not following the rules. We may think what we are doing isn t bad, or we haven t been caught yet, so we must be good at it. The reality is that we need to think twice about these things before something happens that can change our life or the life of someone else entirely. We may think we can control the situation, but in reality, things can happen so fast that we wouldn t even be able to react to them. The main reasons that cause fatalities and crashes are, driving under the influence, speeding, texting while driving, and not wearing a seatbelt while driving. It doesn t matter how long we have done it or if we haven t been caught, when it does happen it can be a very bad outcome and can happen in a split second. I personally feel that these things have really become a major factor and find it incumbent that something should be done to stop them from happening. An article I read titled, Can Automation and Tougher Laws Save Lives? by Ellen Kennerly talks about some of the causes of fatalities and crashes we tend to have so much of now. Kennerly states, Nearly half of the 2015 fatalities involved an unbelted passenger or driver and about one third were alcohol related. Wow, that is a big number. This quote clearly shows us that wearing our seatbelt can save us from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Outline The Concept Of Skepticism How do we know things for certain? How can I be certain of the things I consider to be true? The only way we can know things for certain is through doubting the things we think we know, also known as skepticism. In this paper I will argue that skepticism is the best way to know things for certain because it acknowledges the presence of cognitive dissonance, self justification and the things we can learn by questioning. I will proceed as follows: I will outline the concepts of skepticism, according to Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson, and the concepts of rationalism, according to RenГ© Descartes. Then, I will compare rationalism and skepticism by explaining how challenging the ways we think we know stuff and cognitive dissonance can affect how we perceive things through skepticism and describing Descartes many principles based off of reason and how he uses these reasons to slowly affirm the things we must know for certain through rationalism. Epistemology is the study of how we attain knowledge or why we believe stuff in the way we do. There are many branches in epistemology to explain how we learn and comprehend things, but also how we can know things for certain. Skepticism, a concept within epistemology, is a way we know the things we do with certainty. By using doubt and questioning how we perceive things, we can examine the validity of the knowledge and ideas that people seem sure of or believe must be true. • 12. Antigone The Significance Of A Single Soul Research Paper The Significance of a Single Soul How can one single person make a difference in the world? It seems impossible that a single person can make a difference in such a large world but it happens all the time. In history, many people have made very notable influences in the the way we live today. They have indeed changed the world forever. Literature illustrates this very same principle time and time again. In Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, for example, Brutus is burdened with two choices: stay loyal to Caesar or join Cassius s conspiracy. Brutus eventually decides on joining Cassius because he sees it as the healthier alternative for the Roman Republic. He murders Caesar with the group and the repercussion is brutal. Antigone in the play by Sophocles makes the choice of following divine law over civil law, deciding to bury her brother Polyneices corpse rather than letting his soul fester in... Dictators throughout history have accomplished this through their selfish campaigns for their own gain. If Antigone hadn t been a strong willed person, her family wouldn t have died. At the same time, If Creon wasn t also just as strong willed, that outcome wouldn t be true all the same. If one of them would have broke under the pressure sooner, the lives of the family would be saved. If one of them had just seen the the trouble as not worth it and not as an issue to fight over, none of these lives would ve been wasted. Brutus, after his group s assassination of Caesar, costs the lives of 100 senators, his friends, his family, and many more soldiers during the subsequent civil war. If Brutus had not joined the conspiracy, maybe Caesar would be king, but these hundreds of lives would ve been unharmed. For most readers, Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre is much more than an iconic Gothic novel set within the Victorian Era. In my opinion, it s a story about a young woman who not only defies gender role, but also the social class in an attempt to live her life; but in her own way. On top of that, readers began to view Jane as a somewhat unexpected heroine of Bronte s novel, that while facing innumerable obstacles within a tough social class, becomes something more by the end of the story. The track features Robert Johnson himself in a variation of the 12 bar blues structure as he deviates from the form to bare all emotion. His vocal prowess and slide guitar mastery is expressed in the usage of microtonal intervals which was common in the style of Delta Blues. Robert Johnson was a prolific songwriter who died at 27. (Schroeder, 2004) A counter interpretation can also be made with the context of the socio political environment of Mississippi in the 1930s. Lynching is an extrajudicial practice carried out as an informal execution of an alleged criminal. In the 1900s, lynch mobs were a frequent way to highlight the economic and political differences as the dominant group would suppress their competition in this way, especially in the south. It was reported that African American men were lynched to death in Mississippi on a weekly basis. Since 1874, the Jim Crow laws had been established and stayed in effect until 1975. This legalizes the separation of races in the south of America and condemned coloured Americans to a second class citizenship (Tischauser, 2012). These conditions became the source of many blues numbers which often wail the gruesome experiences of victims of systemic racism such as Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday, as it was a common reaction to perform songs of protest against racial injustice in juke joints. Over and over again these representations are revisited, seeing just how many degrading representations the modern day woman can overcome before finally adopting these stereotypes as the norm in her everyday life. It is almost like a game to see how many obstacles women can overcome; each obstacle yet another generalised representation of women in literature and film. Ironically, this is perceived through the exaggerated emotive language of having them replaced by a direst cruelty . Lady Macbeth pleads, make thick my blood, stop up the passage to remorse , conveying that if her blood was made thicker the blood flow throughout her body would slow down and natural human functions would shut down. Metaphorically she wants the flow of remorse and pity to be cut off, and to be unhuman. Furthermore, she pleads that her breast milk is turned to bile. A woman s breasts have the natural function to feed, and is a source of life for a growing baby, while bile is a bitter, foul green coloured substance made in the liver which provides no nourishment. Allegorically, this links back to Lady Macbeth s reversal of nature and challenge of gender expectations. Shakespeare cleverly weaves this allegory through the play to symbolise a warning to Lady Macbeth and or women of the 17th century, for what will happen if they rebel and challenge societal expectations. Consequently, Macbeth gains in murderous masculinity, ordering killing after killing, while Lady Macbeth lapses back into the feminine helplessness she had earlier rejected. This proclamation, issued in September 1862 and enacted at the start of 1863, freed all slaves in rebelling states in the Confederacy and had a dramatic impact on the outcome of the Civil War. However, even though Lincoln was morally against the concept of slavery, he had previously stated that he had no intention of abolishing it. Why did he explicitly violate his own word? Multiple factors played a part in Lincoln s decision to emancipate the slaves. As the war progressed, however, it became clear that the war was not just a short rebellion and that there was no hope of keeping the country from outright Civil War. At that point, it was clear that the war was built on the issue of slavery, and Lincoln saw that by clarifying the Union s position on slavery, he would strengthen their position in the war. Although Lincoln might not have initially seen the Civil War as war about slavery, but the slaves in the South disagreed they immediately took the war as an opportunity to gain freedom. Another reason Lincoln issued the Emancipation proclamation was that by 1862, the emancipation of the slaves would only benefit the Union while hurting the Confederacy. Upon the start of the fighting, numerous slaves escaped to Union lines, assuming that the army would give them protection. This presented a dilemma for the Union. The Fugitive Slave Act was still in place, which meant that any general that encountered an escaped slave should have return them to their masters. Although some generals did this, many others welcomed slaves into their armies, calling them contrabands of war . Lincoln, who was sure that these defiant actions would further enrage the Confederacy yet had no intention of returning the slaves to their masters, presented a number of alternative plans for the slaves, including colonization (freed slaves would be delivered to Central ... • 21. Normative Definition Of Deviance The first question deals with the issue of deviance being defined by a normative definition. The fist major issue with that is in the definition. We all define deviance as something else. What someone else finds to be deviant another person will find to be totally normal. That is where the issue lies. How can we have something called normative definition of deviance. Is it what the society as a whole thinks are normal or should we take the things that some small groups also consider to be deviant. Also, this gets into when does something become deviant. If some people believe that sex before marriage is a deviant act and other feel that it is not how can we come to a consensus of what is a deviant act. This why is the act normal just because they have gotten married. Would it still be considered normal if the couple was 12 and decided to get married to have sex? They are still in a marriage and have decided to not have sex before that marriage. This for most would be considered a deviant act in America, but if we go to other parts of the world where the life span is not that long than the act becomes less deviant. So yes, in a way society defines deviance, but that definition cannot simply be something that some people consider deviant. Everything is considered deviant by someone, and everything is not considered deviant by someone else. Someone will always be willing to condemn an action and someone will be ready to defend that same action. It is not safe to say that just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And we shouldn t forget the fact that the American Revolution began in New England so in essence the America we know today would not exist without New England. An entry routine is a method that teachers use to establish a consistent schedule that begins when the students enter the classroom each and every day. This routine could be pre arranged seat assignments, students passing in assignments due, having books, paper and pencils ready or having a warm up activity at the beginning of class. This type of routine helps maintain order in the classroom and avoids wasting valuable learning time at the beginning of the class (Classroom Management, 2014). In addition to entry routine, another excellent example of classroom management at the beginning of class can be a Do Now. A Do Now is an activity that the students are given at the start of class, which is usually a written response to a question on the board. This activity gets students ready for class by getting the students focused and prepared for instructions (Classroom Management, 2014). A final example of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This transmission can be generated from electronic sources such as computers, phones, cameras and even audio sources such as speakers. Due to the various types of sources from which data is derived, each source requires a mechanism that gathers and prepares the data for transmission. This may include digitizing data, or encoding to ensure the privacy of the data during transmission. This data is then passed along a communications channel to the destination, or receiver, in the form of an analog or digitalsignal and mixed with other multiple pieces of data through a shared channel. In order to avoid confusion, mechanisms must be in place that can identify each source and ensure that the data sent from those sources arrive at the intended destination and not become lost and confused with other data in the same channel. Why is it, in the face of the self evident fact that maximum prosperity can exist only as the result of the determined effort of each workman to turn out each day his largest possible day s work, that the great majority of our men are deliberately doing just the opposite, and that even when the men have the best of intentions their work is in most ... • 54. Literature Review On Sparse Group Lasso b.Sparse Group Lasso The sparse group lasso is also known as a special case of group lasso that place an additional penalty 1 norm of the coefficient vector. The sparse group lasso allows the overlaps in the groups. The sparse set of group is generated by group lasso. The models in the group if included then all the variables in the group become non zero. Sometimes we like to have both the sparsity of group and within each group, i.e. between and within the group. Such as example, in genes expression we like to identify particular useful genes among the number of genes, this is the focus of sparse group lasso. The sparsity in sparse group lasso is exists in two types, first is group wise sparsity and the other is within group sparsity. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sparse group lasso can allow using the group information but cannot force to use entire group. The sparse group lasso can solve the problem with un penalized covariates. V.CONCLUSION. Feature selectionis a step that finds the subset from the original feature set to some criteria of instance importance. In this paper the concept of group feature selection is review that specifies different approaches in this ground. This literature review examines the recent work of feature selection where feature posses certain group structure. The methods found for group feature selection have discussed here. The general approaches of group feature selection such as group lasso and sparse group lasso are described. The group lasso is an extension of Standard lasso which tend to perform group selection, if the group of features is selected then all the features in the groups are selected. Sparse group lasso takes the advantage of group lasso and produces an efficient solution with simultaneous between and within group. The group feature selection tries to minimize the redundant and irrelevant features from the group to decreases the computational time. The above dimensional categorization of group feature selection algorithm give a view of future challenges and research ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. Adult Basic Education Programs For Adult Education Adult Basic Education programs exist in the United States to provide second chance educational services to adults 18 and older who test below a twelve grade level in reading, language, or math. This is made possible through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which was signed into law by President Obama on July 22, 2014, revising and reauthorizing the Workforce Reinvestment Act (WIA) of 1998 (H.R. 803, 2014). Title II of the WIA established the current accountability standards for adult education programs in the United States that include state level development of student outcome based performance standards to determine program effectiveness. Outcome measures include adult student educational functioning level gains in reading, math, and language literacy; student gains in the skills and knowledge areas needed to become employable; an increase in adult student parental involvement, and completion of high schoolequivalency diplomas. These outcomes reflect the goals of the WIA adult education program, which are to improve English literacy and language skills needed for self sufficiency, to assist in completion of high school, and to place adults into postsecondary and employment training programs (Condelli, Castillo, Seburn, Deveaux, 2002). WIOA expands and encourages better coordination between the primary federal programs that support workforce development, employment services, adult education, and vocational rehabilitation services, and establishes ...
