The Vampire Diaries
Dear diarie,
Hi, my name is Elena Gilbert, I live with my brother and aunt. I no longer want to be the small
little girl who lost her parents in a car accident. Its the first day of high school year, so i want to start
fresh.
Today Bonie drove me to school, it felt good seeing her again. Bonie is my best friend, she s the
kind of person that is carrying and loving. At school everyone was talking about this new guy at
no one has ever seen before. On my way to history class I bumped into someone, as I looked up It
was the new guy, i got nervous as we made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was suspicious about Stefan and Damin. So I looked up Vampires in Mistic Falls . I watched a
video of the 1800s about a murder that had occurred. But i couldn t believe what i had seen. I had
seen Stefan Salvatore on a news video of the 1800s, there was no way that it was Stefan.
After the car was was over, I went to Stefan s house that night freaking out. When I knocked on
the door, Stefan opened it. I immediately yelled. What are you! I was scared. He looked at me,
tearing. You know he said in a low voice. No! I said shaking my head. Theres no way, Stefan .
Im a vampire , I looked at him crying and frightened. so I ran to my car Elena, wait! he yells. As I
get to my house i go running up stairs and straight to the bathroom looking for pills and hear a
voice behind me, Elena . I ran towards the door, but he reaches me and closes the door before i
got to open it. I will never hurt you, Elena , he whispered in my ear. Then if you wont hurt me,
then go! I said crying. When i turned around he wasn t there, just an open

Discrimination In Faulkner s The Secret Life Of Bees
The novel, the secret life of bees is set in the late 1950 s in south carolina, USA. Lily, the
protagonist, lives with her father in a small town called Sylvan and accidentally killed her mother
with a handgun when she was younger, this haunts her throughout the book. Her father abuses
her and it is through this abuse that she decides to run away from home with her surrogate
mother. Rosalind has been looking after Lily since her mother died but when she wants to sign
herself up for voting she gets beaten up. She goes on the run with lily and they find themselves
living with a family of black women who are beekeepers. Lily finds out that the women who took
her in knew her mother and looked after her when she was younger. They were with her in... Show

Lily, though growing up with a no doubt racist father, also grew up with Rosalind as her foster
mother and therefore stuck up for the women that she came to live with in the pink house. She
was asked by a white woman You re staying in her house? and instead of making up an excuse
about why she was staying there, simply said, yes. she wasn t embarrassed about being the only
white girl in a house that was run by african american women. I think that this is an admirable trait
considering her upbringing with her father and what she got taught in school in the 1960 s. Which
was likely non favourable towards african american people. Nowadays though we like to think that
things have changed, and although african americans now have the right to vote and marry who
they want and are generally less discriminated against, there still are people in america that are
racist and treat them with no respect. There is a major problem with police brutality in america
with police officers shooting and hurting african americans when they have done nothing wrong.
Still today people are not treating african americans with the respect that they deserve as human
beings and in 2016 african americans were incarcerated at 5 times the rate of

The Swag Contests
The things that I thought worked for the program was that the kids were all welcomed with open
arms and enthusiasm, which helped them to feel comfortable and excited about the activities of
the day. They were able to arrive and have something to eat before starting the day. The opening
ceremonies each morning gave structure and allowed the students to know what they could
expect during the day. The reflection time allowed the kids to have quiet time or time to burn off
their excess energy by playing basketball or football out in the grass areas. I think the guys truly
enjoyed the time playing sport and could see that college life can include both academic and
recreational activities. It was nice to display both arenas to them. The swag contests

Famous People
Rosa Parks is widely known as the African American woman who refused to get off her seat on a
bus. She did not want to forfeit her seat in order for a white individual to replace her. She was
arrested and taken into custody against her will, just because she felt the need to stay on the seat
she felt she rightfully deserved. On December 1st, 1955, according to history, Rosa Parks was
tired and exhausted from a long day of work. In fact, under different circumstances, she would
have probably given up her seat willingly to a child or elderly person. But at this point in history,
Parks was tired of the treatment she and other African Americans received everyday of their lives.
This included racism, segregation, prejudice and the Jim Crow laws... Show more content on

It has prevented other up and coming computer software entrepreneurs to rethink their
approaches. Because of his ambitiousness, Gates has been able to keep his hold on the computer
software industry by not letting other companies grab hold of what he worked so long and hard
to create and establish. Gates changed the world positively and negatively. On the positive aspect,
he has helped regular, working class people use a basic computer. Even if you are not in a working
environment, you can still manage to use the computer with general knowledge of the Microsoft
programs. Negatively, he has contributed to the laziness of people. Now, with a click of a
button, you can access everything from Microsoft Word to Microsoft Internet Explorer without
having to leave the comfort of your own home or office. Actual books and journals have taken a
back seat to the convenience of double clicking. Regardless of the influence Gates has had
positively and negatively, one cannot ignore the fact that he has changed our world. Through his
company, he has managed to revitalize people and their view of computers. Without Gates, the
world would be extremely different because I would not be writing this paper right now. We live
in such a fast paced world that we are always looking to minimize our efforts and time
management skills. Gates has single handedly created a second world in the eyes of many people;

Importance Of Suspension Of Disbelief In Theatre
Suspension of disbelief is an essential feature of theatre. Is it essential in other areas of
knowledge? The title states that suspension of disbelief is an essential feature of theatre, a
discipline within the area of knowledge of the arts and it includes suspending our own awareness
of this unreality, in order to be immersed in and enjoy the story we are reading, watching or
listening to. Therefore, it could be argued that suspension of disbeliefis essential in the Arts and
other areas of knowledge, because in order to be immersed and have a deeper understanding you
need to suspend your own thoughts of the unreality of what you are interpreting or visualising.
Whilst theatre is one of the disciplines in the Arts, which like other subjective areas of knowledge
such as Religionprovide personal and subjective knowledge through the suspension of disbelief, it
could be argued that suspension of disbelief is also essential in other more objective subjects, such
as Maths and Science. Whilst the Arts and Religion, heavily rely on interpretation of symbolic and
figurative meanings, which cannot be evidenced through a direct correspondence with reality,
Science and Maths also rely on abstract concepts that create a visual representation of reality
through symbols and equations, rather than a reality that can be directly observed. It could be
argued that suspension of disbelief is, an essential part of knowing in so much as knowing is a
process of joining between shared

William Carrigan s Violence During The Nineteenth Century
William Carrigan describes violence in central Texas in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in
The Making of a Lynching Culture as a societally driven solution to fear. In the 1850s and 1860s,
he says that extralegal violence is used more often because of the panic caused by increasing slave
resistance. He gives several reasons that Anglo Texans create for slave resistance, but their main
claim is that outsiders are to blame for convincing slaves to fight against slavery. In the Portal to
TexasHistory, there are archives of newspapers from the time, and these papers use colorful
language that displays just how desperate Anglo Texans and the South are to keep that slavery
intact. Texan slaveholders looked to others for supposed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those words are volatile when it comes to the Texas audience, and these articles that point at
Mexicans instead of slaveholders for slave resistance are useful in the defense of extralegal
violence. Because of these articles, Texas slaveholders feel like they can conceal how unhappy
their slaves are and claim that Anglo Texans are victims. Later in the aforementioned passage from
Carrigan, he explains that Anglo Texans suggested that outside forces convinced slaves to have an
uprising, which gave slaveholders the justification they needed to use extralegal violence to limit
slave resistance.
An example of Anglo Texans blaming outsiders, specifically Mexicans, can be seen in 1851. That
year, the Texas State Gazette explained that Mexicoactively supported the runaway slaves, and
that Mexico fought those who visited town to claim their property. This has so exasperated many
of the settlers at the west, the article said, that they are determined to raise a force sufficient to
overpower all opposition, and re capture their slaves at all hazards. This exasperation only fuels
the grudge that Anglo Texans hold toward Mexico, and will add to slaveholders fears that their
main source of labor and, by extension, income could escape their grasp so easily. This fear stems
back to when Santa Anna s army marched northward in Texas after the battle at the Alamo, when

The Role of Sacred Space in Judeo-Christian Religions
The Role of Sacred Space in Judeo Christian Religions
Certain physical locations take on important meanings in the world s religions. Religions consider
various geographic elements such as different cities, regions, mountains, and rivers to be sacred.
For example, Hindus travel to the Ganges River to cleanse themselves from their sins (Momen
157). One of the requirements of all Muslims is that they make a pilgrimage to the holy city of
Mecca (Eastman 398). Judeo Christian religions also have certain places that are held sacred to
their followers. The concept of sacred space is important to Judeo Christian religions, because it
helps to explain the questions of existence. Sacred space provides something tangible to represent ...

With the current knowledge of humans, these matters cannot be adequately explained. Furthermore,
these ideas cannot be expressed with current human language (Barbour 90). To compensate for the
inability to explain the unexplainable and the lack of sufficient answers to life s questions, Judeo
Christian religions tend to employ tangible phenomena as much as possible. The concept of sacred
space is important to religions, because it offers a tangible representation of the religion for its
believers. This can help to humanize the supernatural and the concept of spirituality. Sacred space
helps to provide a structure for religions, as it closes the gaps of understanding of concepts that are
difficult to grasp with human understanding.
Judeo Christian religions employ the concept of location as a storytelling tool. Stories help to
explain intangible concepts, and the use of specific places in biblical stories helps to concretize
these concepts. In the story of Adam and Eve, the Garden of Eden is described as a beautiful
place. In the center of the garden are the Tree of Life and the Tree of Knowledge of Good and
Evil (Gen. 2.8 3.24 NAB). This story utilizes tangible elements to represent deeper meanings. The
Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil symbolizes the Lord s omnipotence. When Eve eats from this
tree, it represents humanity s sinful desire to be like God. In the New Testament, the story

meaning and uses of assessment in various fields. These are instruments used to measure how much
of a specific psychological construct an individual has. Psychological tests are used to assess many
areas, including: 1. Traits such as introversion and extroversion 2. Certain conditions such as
depression and anxiety 3. Intelligence, aptitude and achievement such as verbal intelligence and

Subjective assessment is a form of questioning which may have more than one correct answer and
/or more than one way of expressing the correct answer, whereas opinion might in addition to also
consist of unsubstantiated information, in contrast to knowledge and fact based beliefs. Some have
argued that the distinction between objective and subjective assessments is neither useful nor
accurate because, in reality, there is no such thing as objective assessment. In fact, all assessments
are created with inherent biases built into decisions about the relevant subject matter and content, as
well as cultural (class, ethnic, and gender)

Hierarchy Of Effect Of Amazon
Introduction
Nowadays it is crucial for companies to understand and have a clear vision about trends and levels
on customer knowledge, preferences and behaviors, in order to develop with success their brand
and product strategy.
In effect, studies of awareness, attitudes and usage are made in way to measure these trends and
they are based on the theory of Hierarchy of Effects, assumption that explains the process with
which the consumer, primarily, starts to be aware about the product, with initial trial of it, and then,
after adoption of the product, he becomes loyal to it.
In this way companies can see how their reputation and competition increase, starting a growth
process that, if is well supported and controlled, can result in achieving ... Show more content on

To do this, after its foundation, Amazon came up with the idea of customer reviews, which it
means that if people see other people s review about products and services acquired online they feel
more confident to proceed with the purchase. Doing constantly that operation, company s reputation
and safeness can increase as well as the number of people who start buy on the internet.
They developed a recommendation module, insight integrated after seeing that, between the last
purchase and the following one, exists a connection. It means that after the purchase several
suggestions about a set of customized products are given to the customer, in way to give more
visibility to similar products and to ease their discovery.
To make easy and simplify online shopping they created a process called one click ordering with
which you can buy certain product just pressing a button and the order will be carried out
automatically.
It also offers Amazon Prime, which it was created in 2005, an annually paid membership based
on the offer, to customer, of a very short time shipping which it means that in only 1 or 2 you will

Abstract When you hear the word teaching . You may think about school and student. Teaching I
realized it is not an easy job, however it is a blessing when your students that were struggling are
now succeeding it is very rewarding. Teachers have an important role everyday and it is important
that teachers should know that they are the guiding to all student s development, intellectual, social

Differentiation is all of these and more. As a student in the class I learned about the different
teaching philosophies, I learned what may fit me is it progressivism. Teaching is a balance of
science and artistry. Taking the information and creating lessons to engage and impart knowledge to
students who are reluctant learners and show them that they have the power of change within them.
I believe it is important in guiding the development of the children as individuals and help them
mature into thoughtful adults who continue to learn.
Worldview philosophy of Life When we hear the world school or teaching or just discussing
education, we may hear teaching is a difficult job or why other jobs get paid more than teachers
especially when teacher deals with students every day. In 1982 in regards to the characteristics
in the educational landscapes, Henry Giroux noted there were severe financial cutbacks,
shrinking job markets, and massive teacher layoffs (p.87) However, some of these issues are still
going on as of today. Many teachers go on strike or just getting layoff because the jobs just do not
want to pay the staffs or a financial cut due to the economy. In my community I listen how an ex
teacher decided to leave her job because she was spending more money on students material

Essay Explain Why Piggy Banks Are Nudges
Ch 2 Questions Whenever possible use concrete examples not found in the book. 1. Explain why
portion size is so important in controlling obesity. Portion control is incredibly important in
controlling obesity. Often people will eat in auto pilot and not actively pay attention to what
they are eating. Most people will eat what is in front of them. If a plate of food were to be placed
in front of someone, they will continue to eat even once they aren t even hungry. This is because
eating is a mindless activity. So, portion control is very important in regard to obesity. Since
people will finish their entire plate of food, and have a hard time controlling their eating, it is
better to limit the portion of food. A study by professor Brian... Show more content on

Explain how daylight savings time is a nudge. During the summer when we change the clock
from 8:00 to 9:00, it nudges people to wake up early and enjoy the extra hour of sunshine. Even
though the amount of sunlight is the same, people are nudged to go outside as they perceive
there to be an extra hour. 4. Explain why piggy banks are nudges. Often people lack self control.
Especially when it comes to handling their own money, people are very irresponsible. Piggy
banks are meant to help nudge us to save money. It is very easy to put money into a piggy bank,
but it is a pain to take the money out. This is a nudge to make the people not take the money out.
One similar situation is a savings account a parent has for a child. The money in the savings
account can not be withdrawn until the child turns 18. Money will continue to be deposited, but
won t be withdrawn until the child is 18 and can use it for college. 5. Explain how one can violate
the fungibility of money. Money is fungible because you can use it for anything. Yet this
fungibility can be violated. Money can be compartmentalized into different budgets for different
things. People will set aside a certain amount of money for one purpose, they will only withdraw
for that specific purpose. This violated the fungibility of money as it can now only be used for that

Ocean Of Pollution By Dahr Jamail
In the article Ocean of pollution, the author, Dahr Jamail, makes a strong case for that fact that
human activities drive oceans pollution in a terrible situation. He begins by briefly outlining how
quickly plastic pollution in the oceans has increased in only few decades along with human
behaviour. Dahr then continues on to describe the doubling dead zones appears unnaturally have
impacts on sea life, even the food chain. The article concludes by stating the solution for the oceans
pollution. Clearly, the audiences he spoken to are the North American public since it was originally

organizations and governments (lots data from American government departments and list solution
for EPA). In fact, for the most part with Dahr use of examples and pictures strengthens his logos.
Also, he integrates pathos excellently due to appropriate images and tone. He utilizes Ethos well,
for knowledgeable about the environment issues. The article describe the ocean pollution through
two phenomenon amount of plastics occur in the oceans and doubling increased dead zones . In
term of plastic garbage, Dahr primarily states that human behavior caused unknown ecological and

Quadrivium was thought to be of little importance, with geometry and music given a miniscule
amount of attention. Astronomy and arithmetic were actually used to help find the date of
Easter, but were then deemed useless and falling in the shadow of the Arabic way of
mathematics (Rait 139). They were taught by the lecture method, which is reading and
speaking. The language the men learned and spoke in was Latin, so before enrolling, they
would have to have a sufficient amount of knowledge of Latin. There were two types of lecture
methods the men were used too; the ordinary and cursory lectures. The cursory lectures were
typically given in the afternoon by bachelors of the subject being taught. As teaching became
more important, this method was used less and less and soon the ordinary one was used since it
was taught by people who were certified in the subject being taught. The career of a student

Definition Essay On Slang Word
Everyone has a word or phrase that purely defines who they are, how they speak or the way they
act. In this case, the slang word that defines me most is LOLOL . Nearly everyone in America is
aware of the slang word as LOL, which stands for laughing out loud. LOLOL means close to the
exact same thing as the slang word LOLbut it represents a continuation of someone, or multiple
people expressing their laughter by lots of laughing out loud, . There are multiple definitions for

meaning I believe in. According to Urban Dictionary, the definition of the word LOLOL is when

This slang word can be used through dialogue as well as a visual, sound, smell, taste, and touch.
One of the most recent visual encounters of using the word LOLOL was when my friend Taylor
Bruck was playing intramural basketball. Intramural sports are when people get teams together
to play one another in a non competitive fashion but, Taylor tried making this very competitive
so she decided to wear goggles and a mouth guard. I do not think I can t remember a time that I
laughed that hard. Since Taylor is one of my good friends I able to laugh at her without
offending her. Another visual detail that always seems to have me laughing out loud is when I
watch videos of dogs playing. I love watching videos of dogs that are doing trick and end up
failing or when dogs do something funny but of course not videos of dogs hurting themselves.
Now, for the last example of a visual detail that helps explain LOLOL is a classic. Taylor Bacon,

time to move in the water and before you know it time was almost up. When we arrived back at
shore, the guy who was helping us started laughing at us because we have been rowing the canoe
backward the whole time. Taylor and I just looked at each other and started dying of laughter at

How Is Blanche Dubois A Victim
Streetcar Named Desire Assignment.
Blanche DuBois is a fallen southern heiress to the DuBois empire that is Belle Reve. Born into
wealth, Blanche has never had to work or face the harsh realities that life brings along. The play, A
Streetcar Named Desire shows both parts to the eccentric persona that is Blanche DuBois; the
unfortunate victim of society and the victimizer who uses lies to deceive people to get what she
wants.
Blanche lives in a world that is actually a figment of her vast imagination. A world where she is
in the prime of her youth, laden with young, rich, gentleman admirers who abide to her bidding.
She prefers to live in this fantasy world to distract her from the plight she currently faces in the
present or her past promiscuous lifestyle. Blanche s mental issues started when she came home to
find her husband in bed with another man ( a double blow in the sense that her husband is
unfaithful to her and is homosexual) leading to him taking his own life, widowing her in the ...

Weight Watchers Plan
Weight Watchers is an international company that was founded to help their customers with losing
and maintaining their weight. They also have a large amount of dieting products that customers can
purchase to aid them in maintaining successful and long lasting weight loss.
The original Weight Watchers plan invites members to weekly meetings where members hold group
sessions, helping dieters form a network of support with people sharing similar experiences. Upon
arrival, each person checks their weight privately. Meetings are conducted by a trained Meeting
Leader who motivates and offers the group support through information about nutrition and fitness.
Other programs include but are not limited to The Flex Program, The Core Program and the
Turnaround Program. Each program can be tailored to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strength however of the Weight Watchers plan is not to be found in the underpinning diet
itself, but in the need that all dieters have for information, advice, help and, above all, support in
what is typically a long, and at times difficult, struggle to remove those stubborn pounds.
Weight Watchers has been around, but it has been until very recently that they developed a special
Points system, which consists of assigning a point value to foods based on the amount of kilo
joules, fat and (in theory) the amount of fibre each food contains. All this is estimated by using a
patented formula.
This diet program allows you to record your points in an online journal if you are following the
flex plan. It allows you to see all of the foods on the core plan and have access to a point
calculator to figure the points in specific foods that you have nutritional info. This is great for
people who do not have the time to attend meetings or who do not need motivation to stick with

Death of a Salesman vs. Fifth Business, Feminist Perspective

Comparative Essay
Fifth Business by Roberson Davies and Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller
Throughout most of history woman have faced an imbalance within their social class opposed to
the male gender. They have had fewer rights and much fewer career opportunities, the stereotype
that a women s place is in the home is due to the most socially accepted and common career of
wifehood and motherhood. Through the comparison of Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller and
Fifth Business by Robertson Davies the contrasts between both works are explored from the
feminist perspective. The status of woman in the early and mid nineteen hundreds is reflected by

Roman Catholic Research Paper
Roman Catholicism is headed by the pope. For the first 1,500 years of Christianity, there wasn t
any type of Catholicism. Common traditions, beliefs, and worship were the body of Christian
believers around the world which is how they were all united; if you were a Christian, you
belonged to a catholic church. Any other type of beliefs was considered treachery to the Christianity
belief. In our time, there are multiple forms of Christianity besides Roman Catholicism. Being a
catholic in this time means that one has certain beliefs, practices, and traditions compared to those
of Protestantism, Anglicanism, Greek Orthodox, and all the other various types of Christianity.

This type of practice links back to the papacy s connections with monasticism. The Jesuits,
Dominicans, Franciscans, and the Augustinians are several of the Catholic monastic orders with
them being the most known. Roman Catholicism links back to the age of the apostles, especially
with one figure Peter. St. Peter. This individual was considered the first pope and every pope after
him was considered his spiritual successor. Centuries later, the church we know today, Roman
Catholic Church was created with its doctrines and practices. Non Catholics consider this church as,
having corrupted the original message of Christianity. (religionfacts, 2016) while from a catholic

Gym class is a place for kids to run around and have fun. Gym is a place where tall or short, boy

grade gym class. The first thing that the seventh graders did was do a 6 six minute warm up run,
around the gymnasium. The students ran a many different paces and with many different
people. Most of the girls just walked and talked to each other, which lost them points toward
their grades. There was one girl in peculiar that was trying to fake the teachers that she was

Amazing Grace by Jonathan Kozol
At first glance and after reading through Amazing Grace, it seems that Jonathan Kozol is going
to take us on a journey through the lives of the underprivileged, but similar to the ones you read
about, or hear in the news. However, this is not the case; the real underlying theme seems to be
how the life and society they live in is very alike to a life in a prison, not because it talks explicitly
about prison conditions in this area, but also because their lives are portrayed as being a prison.
Kozol uses the views of children and adults throughout this book to emphasize this theme
through their living conditions and personal lives, background and struggles. Kozol writes
about the trials and tribulations of everyday normal life for the people who live here. Normal for
them, however, is quite different than it is for most of us. Living with drug dealers, pollution,
poor hospital care and an awful education system, not to mention the social system of the city, is
the normal for them. In his interviews, even with the children of this overlooked neighborhood,
we find that the children speak honestly and freely about their feelings. Forgotten, hidden,
abandoned, are just some of the words that come to mind. One boy named Malcolm X wears his
hair in a style referred to as 25 years to life . His sister asks Like in prison...? This is how you want
to wear your hair? His reply You don t have to be in jail to be in prison . This is just one of many

The Future Of The European Union
What the framework of our constitution can do is organize the way in which we argue about our
future. All of its elaborate machinery its separation of powers and checks and balances and
federalist principles and Bill of Rights are designed to force us into a conversation, a deliberative
democracy in which all citizens are required to engage in a process of testing their ideas against an
external reality, persuading others of their point of view, and building shifting alliances of consent.
Barack Obama, 2006 1.0Introduction
In the past years, the possible future of the European Union (EU) has been of increasing interest to
social and political scientists as well as the public. Since 2008, the EU has experienced events such
as the economic crisis and the 2014 European Parliament election, which have fostered intense
debates around the legitimising basis of the EU (Zielonka, 2014). Furthermore, with the election of
David Cameron in the 2015 United Kingdom general election even the possibility of the United
Kingdom leaving the EU has been discussed. Although many social and political scientists do not
believe such a scenario (REFERENCE), one could argue that there is an increasing need for the EU
to redefine itself in order not to experience a genuine downfall . Consequently, an alternative theory
of EU integration challenging the classical intergovernmental and neofunctional understandings of
the EU has gained increasing support among political scientists.

Language, Physical Appearance And Religion
TITLE Sanjana Satish H2P Paper 1 The word community is usually defined as a group of people
living together in the same area and having some common characteristics, such as language,
physical appearance and religion. In The Songlines by Bruce Chatwin, the common characteristics
that form the Aboriginals tribal communities are familial ties and their culture (similar form of

There are Tjakamarras and Jaburullas and Duburungas like me, and so on all over the country,

by white Australians. However, despite this, all the tribes follow the same religious beliefs. They
all go on Walkabouts, they all sing the songs of the Ancestors, and they all have tjurungas that
they view as sacred. Another aspect of their religion is that they have Kirda and Kutungurlu in
each tribe. Kirda is the owner or boss of the land, while Kutungurlu is the manager or helper of the
boss (Chatwin, 98). The reason this binds the different tribes together is because the Kutungurlu
has to be from a different totemic clan and was a nephew of the Kirda on his mother s side (Ferry,
98). This ensures that the clans communicate and be at peace with each other, as they are
interdependent on the other. Another aspect of their culture that strengthens feelings of community
is the abundance of singing and rituals. The songs of the Aboriginals tell the stories of their
Ancestor walking across Australia, and each Aboriginal owns a certain part of the song, which also
acts as their property deeds. Whenever the elders decided to sing the whole song, they send word

the fear and hatred toward death shown in these quatrains, the poet reaches to the result that all
things have the same value which leads to the idea of the meaninglessness of everything including

Edwin Sutherland s Hypothesis Of Differential Association

territories lacking social association and organizations of social control. Wrongdoing was
generally clarified by numerous variables , for example, social class, age, race, and urban or rustic

The more prominent ramifications of this suggestion is that it finds trust at the foundation of social
connections that support abnormality. For instance, kids and youth would likely first figure out
how to shoplift or how to spray painting open spaces from their dear companions, as opposed to

The fourth suggestion extends Sutherland s idea of figuring out how to distinguish what is gained

The Importance Of Classical Conditioning
Classical conditioning is also referred to as Pavlovian or Respondent conditioning. It is a
process of learning whereby a stimulus that is biologically potent such as food and a previously
neutral stimulus such as a bell are paired. This write up aims to expound further on classical
conditioning and why it matters (Gormezano at al, 275).This is because despite the fact that
many people use the term a lot, they may not necessarily fully comprehend it meaning or the fact
that it is by far one of the most basic forms when it comes to basic forms of learning. Most folks
who do know something about it will quickly refer to Ian Pavlov s experiment with dogs and a
bell that took place way back in 1927 and will normally end at that point due to lack of further
insight on the subject matter.Classical conditioningis centered around involuntary automatic
/reflexive responses rather than on operant conditioning(voluntary behavior). This therefore implies
that for perfect classicconditioning to occur the responses are those that are made naturally by an
animal being trained and that the responses must occur below the normal consciousness levels.
Such responses include fast or slow heartbeat, nausea, and dilation of pupils or a sudden reaction to
pain or pressure (Brewer $ William, 123).Usually the classic conditioning starts with an
unconditional stimulus being paired with a neutral one. The neutral stimulus must be one that
cannot or does not provoke any type of reaction from the test subject. The unconditional stimulus on
the other hand needs to be something that provides reliable results when tested on the subject by
producing an immediate natural response from the organism. This includes shining a light on the
human eye in which case the pupil naturally reduces in size to limit the amount of light entering the
eye. This is an example of a perfect unconditional response abbreviated as UCR by the scientist
Pavlov in 1927. The moment the neutral stimulus is associated with the unconditional stimulus, it
immediately becomes a conditional stimulus and if the two stimuli can occur together over a period
of time, then they become associated which

There is a strong connection between the senses and the formation of our perception. Traditionally,
the sense categories are known as sight, smell, sound, taste and touch. The modern perspective
views the senses as systems in which information about our external world is acquired; visual,
auditory, olfactory, gestation and haptic (tactile) systems. Architecture in the sense of
environmental design is the art of nourishing these senses. In order to receive information from the

The smell receptors interact with the molecules of these vapors and transmit sensations to the
brain. We need only a little amount of molecules of substance to trigger an impulse of smell in a

possible to remember the scent and identify it again later. The scent captures one s memory of
the place; the nose makes the eyes remember. For the blind people, the sense of smell can help

What is Child Support?
To convey the message that the financial support of parents in the lives of their children is vital,
Title IV D of the Social Security Act established the Federal Child Support program in 1975 which
exhibits how financial participation by both parents in the life of a child is essential and
encourages accountability amongst parents. An individual s understanding of Child Support is
shaped not only by their knowledge of its legal elements, but also by their personal opinions and
social environments. As a society, there are many varying views of child support, but the general
understanding of the program relates to the understanding of how child support works.

Summary Of Heyoka Ceremony From Black Elk Speaks
Heyoka Ceremony from Black Elk Speaks, by Nicholas Black Elk is a story dedicated to the
Indian nation and the Hayoki a religious people intrinsically connected to nature through their
visions of thunderous creatures who were once part of this nation. Traditionally, Hayoki
participates in religious ceremonies where this particular ceremony involved the sacrificing of a
dog, a seemingly foolish act done with great reverence to the thunder beings of the west, that not
only demonstrates their faith, beliefs, and traditions but also keeps them connected to the spiritual
realm. It s important to note that as inhumane as it may seem to Western cultures, this sacrifice was
done in the most respectful way possible, as Lakota promotes the respect of mother earth and
everything in it. Even though the sacrificial killing of a domestic animal like a dog can be seen as
controversial, in order to understand the Heyoka Ceremonies, we must first understand its origins....

members of the police force and 23 civilians dead ( Peru Overturns ). WOLA along with 12 other
human rights groups wrote a letter to the U.S Secretary of State asking for the government to
examine the TPA, clarify it, and possibly repeal parts if necessary. They also condemned the
violence that had happened on both sides of the dispute (WOLA). The Peruvian government
decided to throw out a couple parts of the legislation to try and make the indigenous activists happy.
While this did help calm things down there are still ongoing environmental problems especially for
indigenous peoples. There was not only a national outcry for change, but also an international one as

What Literacy Means To Me Analysis
What literacy means to you and me is not what literacy means to some other people in the world.
From our perspective, literacy is of the utmost importance. This is the case with most places in
the 21st century. It is essential for our schooling because of how much we need to read and write
on a daily basis, but once you move to the workplace, I believe that literacyis relative. More than
that, I assert that it is individually relative to every single person in the world. There is no longer a
clear and definitive definition of literacy.
We are a part of the Digital Literacy Initiative. We are direct evidence that the term literacy has
moved beyond the ability to read and write. There is now Digital Literacy, Computer Literacy,
Cultural Literacy, Political Literacy, and many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How far does their literacy go? It would be unwise to generalize a group of people, so for the
purpose of my argument, I will create a character that is likely to exist. A rice farmer from
Bangladesh, my country of heritage, receives a book from a tourist. The tourist comes from a
place of higher education, so he or she thinks that this gift is meaningful. Instead, the farmer
politely declines the gift much to the confusion of the tourist. He explains to the tourist that he does
not have a use for it because he does not have a proficient amount of reading skills. The tourist then
counters him by saying that reading is a great pleasure and that he should try to learn so he
could enjoy simple things like a novel. This is easy to say for the tourist to say because he lives a
different life than the farmer, but the farmer s literacy has a cap that he is happy and functional
with. The farmer can read things like farming equipment, seeds, produce and can do basic
arithmetic like addition, subtraction, and perhaps multiplication. The farmer s literacy provides the
life he wants because with his skills, he can run his farm and provide for his

Art of Near East Royalties
Many people speculate on ancient artifacts with an eye towards its aesthetic value of contemporary
etic perspective. While most people are not professional anthropologists who would try to be an
anachronistic spectators of a so called unknown ancient society , the interesting historical and
cultural aspects are embedded within every art piece throughout the ancient world. The ancient near
east nations were characteristic in their own values just like any contemporary society, and they are
worth the discussion through various aspects such as cultural, ideological, and historical.
The first art piece called Ashurnasirpal II and a Winged Deity, discovered in Northern Iraq,
Nimrud, in 9th century BC opens our exhibition of ancient near east art. The presence of many
contents such as artistic canon, hierarchy of scale and composite view is most correspondent to
the characteristics of Old Kingdom period of Egyptian art. The subject depicted in the panel is
king Ashurnasirpal II on the left and the winged deity, god Ashur. In addition to details, hierarchy
of scale is used for clarification; both king and the winged deity fully occupies the entire panel in
absence of background features, and the deity is shown to be slightly taller than king Ashurnasirpal
ii, to clarify its identity. The hair, wings and clothes in both subjects are very much stylized, not
very naturalistic, with circular spots

Dna Extraction Investigation
The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effects different chemicals would have
on DNA extracted from kiwi. These corrosive chemicals include: citric acid cleaner, methanol,
bleach and water for the controlled sample. This was achieved as kiwis were soaked in the harsh
chemicals and the controlled sample, DNA was then extracted and observed. After the DNA was
removed, it was isolated and weighed in order to decide in which test was the most DNA
damaged. The independent variables for this experiment were days the kiwi was soaking in and
resting. While the dependant variable was the measure of DNA found in mass. Initial trials were
performed in class of DNA extraction. This time strawberry was used. The process that was

Analysis Of The Book Fist Stick Knife Gun By Geoffrey...
Geoffrey Canada pens a book that is part biography, part social view, a very thoughtful look into
inner city violence and the rules surrounding it. The book describes how his personal history
with violence influenced his work with youth and the programs that he has started to support
them. Geoffrey Canada describes the progression of violence that had happened in his lifetime.
He also points out that there is a disturbing difference between what the streets were like in the
1960s compared to those of today. As great storyteller, Geoffrey Canada is thoroughly
convincing. His Book Fist Stick Knife Gun, is a great explanation of violence and poverty in
late 20th century here in America s inner cities. Of how he changed from a timid and frightened
child into a young man who could hold his own in a fight in the streets, is written in a believable
way. Canada actually learned the way of the streets because he grew up in the streets. All of his
experiences first started when he was a child when he and his friends used their fists to settle
disputes and to gain a reputation that would bring respect from the other kids in the
neighborhood. At times, those disputes would escalate with other weapons like a knife. Having
grown up in the South Bronx in the 1960s, Mr. Canada brings you to a time when violence was
ever present but guns were not. At that time there were a very few adult men in the neighborhood,
and the police were of very little assistance. Not even old enough

Differences And Conflicts Between The Colonists And Native...
The British had just found out about the new world (United States of America) is up for grabs,
but there is something in their way (Native Americans). The queen had died less than four years
ago and the first settlers had just arrived in the the new world, and conflict with the natives has
begun. Who s side are you on? I m on the natives the native americans were not hostile yet very
welcoming to the colonists but the colonists did not return the favor. The colonists used the natives
things, took, and wiped out several native tribes. They also were harsh towards the natives. The
settlers were also very disrespectful towards the natives. The settlers stole, killed, and used the
natives things whenever they wanted. The colonists killed

Chemiluminescence Lab
In this experiment, luminol, a compound that produces chemiluminescence when oxidized in the
presence of a base by an oxidizing agent like hydrogen peroxide, was synthesized, and its presence
was confirmed by observing chemiluminescence. Cheminluminescence is the process by which a
photon is released when a reaction occurs, producing light. A similar process, bioluminescenceis
observed in nature when fireflies and jellyfish produce light. Chemiluminescence is identical to
bioluminescence, except for the fact that bioluminescence involves an enzyme, whereas
chemiluminescence uses a chemical catalyst.
Two types of light emission are fluorescence and phosphorescence. In its stable condition, an
electron exists in a ground singlet state. During a reaction, it may absorb energy and become
elevated to an excited state. In most situations, the electron returns to the ground singlet state by
passing through a number of vibrational states and releasing energy, which is not perceived by the
human eye. However, sometimes an electron may release energy all at once in one packet to go
from its excited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The nitro group was then reduced using sodium hydroulfite dihydrate, a reducing agent, to form an
amino group. This reaction was easily reversible. The product formed was luminol, and in the
presence of potassium ferrocyanide, an oxidizing agent, and hydroxide groups from KOH to
deprotonate the product, its two amide groups formed two carboxylate groups, releasing NH2 in the
process. The energy from this reaction also excited an electron in the HOMO (highest occupied
molecular orbital) to the triplet state LUMO (lowest unoccupied molecular orbital). This electron
then relaxed into a singlet excited state, before relaxing down to the ground state, releasing a
photon in a fluorescence like chemiluminescence

`` Night `` By Elie Wiesel
Robert Shapiro, an American civil litigator once said, To me, the Holocaust stands alone as the
most horrible human event in modern civilization, The Holocaust, a genocide led by Adolf Hitler,
killed six million jews, and dramatically affected the whole world. The memoir Night, written by
Elie Wiesel describes the brutality Wiesel experienced during the Holocaust, and how life changing
it was. Although some may believe the memoir written by Elie Wieselwas titled Night because he
was forced to leave his home during the night, Wiesel illustrates Jewslosing hope, faith, and
happiness through the symbol of Night, to prove that the memoir was titled Night to symbolize the
darkness the holocaust created. The first darkness that the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Wiesel then gave up, he figured there was no longer a chance that he could be saved which again
led to darkness. Is this example, the darkness the night brings symbolises loss of hope, and
becoming closer to death. Once Wiesel gave up trying, and claimed it was over, the light in his
life got slightly dimmer, and he became closer to death. The next reason Night was the title of
the memoir written by Wiesel was because the darkness in night symbolized death. Thousands of
Jews were sentenced to death each day, leaving everybody a little more hurt and broken. The first
example of death, that helps portray the title of Night, is in the quote, Was there a single place
here where you were not in danger of death? (Wiesel 37). In this quote, Wiesel shows how
dangerous and recurrent death was and bases the title off of these dangerous, mass killings.
Darkness commonly symbolizes death, and the pain and suffering one feels being exposed to it.
The symbol also helps show that the killings were not normal, they were darker like the night, more
evil and inhumane than anything they had previously experienced. The title Night, symbolizes the
darkness during this painful event, and the darkness universally symbolizes evil. So by using the
title Night, Wiesel is able to indirectly explain how inhumane these mass killings really are. Another
quote that shows the title is used to symbolize

their tablet? If it were 10 years ago, then yes, the kids would be all over the remote, fighting over
who got to choose the channel. However, now in this golden age of technology practically every

The Habits Of Highly Effective People By Stephen R. Covey...
7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey
When I went through professor s required book list, I recognized the book, 7 Habits of Highly
Effective People, at my first glance. I do remember that I read its Chinese version which was a
present from my grandfather almost ten years ago when I was a teenager. Shortly after feeling
excited, I was a little embarrassed because I barely remember the 7 habits. Now as an adult
almost a decade later, after finished the book, the original work, I was impressed. The
immaturity made me believe that most of the points of Covey were too obvious and trite to
make sense. But now those things Covey talked about are actually tough challenges in my life.
The precondition of the Covey s theory is that a lot of people fix the problems in a scattershot
approach which will eventually lead to chaos or disappointment for the most time. The author s
answer to this is to be an effective person. People needs to learn to solve problems from personal
life, study and work with an approach based on a same core values. The book is about how to
develop the core values basically through the seven habits in order to be a more effective person.
The seven habits also help to achieve greater insights into leadership and management in people s
personal and professional life in the effective way.
The seven habits are: 1. Be proactive 2. Begin with the end in mind 3. Put first things first 4. Think
win win 5. First understand, then be understood 6.

Lily, the protagonist, lives with her father in a small town called Sylvan and accidentally killed her mother with a handgun when she was younger, this haunts her throughout the book. Her father abuses her and it is through this abuse that she decides to run away from home with her surrogate mother. Rosalind has been looking after Lily since her mother died but when she wants to sign herself up for voting she gets beaten up. Lily, though growing up with a no doubt racist father, also grew up with Rosalind as her foster mother and therefore stuck up for the women that she came to live with in the pink house. She was asked by a white woman You re staying in her house? and instead of making up an excuse about why she was staying there, simply said, yes. she wasn t embarrassed about being the only white girl in a house that was run by african american women. I think that this is an admirable trait considering her upbringing with her father and what she got taught in school in the 1960 s. Which was likely non favourable towards african american people. Nowadays though we like to think that things have changed, and although african americans now have the right to vote and marry who they want and are generally less discriminated against, there still are people in america that are racist and treat them with no respect. There is a major problem with police brutality in america with police officers shooting and hurting african americans when they have done nothing wrong. Still today people are not treating african americans with the respect that they deserve as human beings and in 2016 african americans were incarcerated at 5 times the rate of ... The Swag Contests The things that I thought worked for the program was that the kids were all welcomed with open arms and enthusiasm, which helped them to feel comfortable and excited about the activities of the day. They were able to arrive and have something to eat before starting the day. The opening ceremonies each morning gave structure and allowed the students to know what they could expect during the day. The reflection time allowed the kids to have quiet time or time to burn off their excess energy by playing basketball or football out in the grass areas. She did not want to forfeit her seat in order for a white individual to replace her. She was arrested and taken into custody against her will, just because she felt the need to stay on the seat she felt she rightfully deserved. On December 1st, 1955, according to history, Rosa Parks was tired and exhausted from a long day of work. In fact, under different circumstances, she would have probably given up her seat willingly to a child or elderly person. But at this point in history, Parks was tired of the treatment she and other African Americans received everyday of their lives. This included racism, segregation, prejudice and the Jim Crow laws... Because of his ambitiousness, Gates has been able to keep his hold on the computer software industry by not letting other companies grab hold of what he worked so long and hard to create and establish. Gates changed the world positively and negatively. On the positive aspect, he has helped regular, working class people use a basic computer. Even if you are not in a working environment, you can still manage to use the computer with general knowledge of the Microsoft programs. Negatively, he has contributed to the laziness of people. • 6. Importance Of Suspension Of Disbelief In Theatre Suspension of disbelief is an essential feature of theatre. Is it essential in other areas of knowledge? The title states that suspension of disbelief is an essential feature of theatre, a discipline within the area of knowledge of the arts and it includes suspending our own awareness of this unreality, in order to be immersed in and enjoy the story we are reading, watching or listening to. Therefore, it could be argued that suspension of disbeliefis essential in the Arts and other areas of knowledge, because in order to be immersed and have a deeper understanding you need to suspend your own thoughts of the unreality of what you are interpreting or visualising. Whilst theatre is one of the disciplines in the Arts, which like other subjective areas of knowledge such as Religionprovide personal and subjective knowledge through the suspension of disbelief, it could be argued that suspension of disbelief is also essential in other more objective subjects, such as Maths and Science. Whilst the Arts and Religion, heavily rely on interpretation of symbolic and figurative meanings, which cannot be evidenced through a direct correspondence with reality, Science and Maths also rely on abstract concepts that create a visual representation of reality through symbols and equations, rather than a reality that can be directly observed. It could be argued that suspension of disbelief is, an essential part of knowing in so much as knowing is a process of joining between shared ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. William Carrigan s Violence During The Nineteenth Century William Carrigan describes violence in central Texas in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in The Making of a Lynching Culture as a societally driven solution to fear. In the 1850s and 1860s, he says that extralegal violence is used more often because of the panic caused by increasing slave resistance. He gives several reasons that Anglo Texans create for slave resistance, but their main claim is that outsiders are to blame for convincing slaves to fight against slavery. In the Portal to TexasHistory, there are archives of newspapers from the time, and these papers use colorful language that displays just how desperate Anglo Texans and the South are to keep that slavery intact. Texan slaveholders looked to others for supposed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those words are volatile when it comes to the Texas audience, and these articles that point at Mexicans instead of slaveholders for slave resistance are useful in the defense of extralegal violence. Because of these articles, Texas slaveholders feel like they can conceal how unhappy their slaves are and claim that Anglo Texans are victims. Later in the aforementioned passage from Carrigan, he explains that Anglo Texans suggested that outside forces convinced slaves to have an uprising, which gave slaveholders the justification they needed to use extralegal violence to limit slave resistance. An example of Anglo Texans blaming outsiders, specifically Mexicans, can be seen in 1851. That year, the Texas State Gazette explained that Mexicoactively supported the runaway slaves, and that Mexico fought those who visited town to claim their property. This has so exasperated many of the settlers at the west, the article said, that they are determined to raise a force sufficient to overpower all opposition, and re capture their slaves at all hazards. This exasperation only fuels the grudge that Anglo Texans hold toward Mexico, and will add to slaveholders fears that their main source of labor and, by extension, income could escape their grasp so easily. This fear stems back to when Santa Anna s army marched northward in Texas after the battle at the Alamo, when Anglo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Role of Sacred Space in Judeo-Christian Religions The Role of Sacred Space in Judeo Christian Religions Certain physical locations take on important meanings in the world s religions. Religions consider various geographic elements such as different cities, regions, mountains, and rivers to be sacred. For example, Hindus travel to the Ganges River to cleanse themselves from their sins (Momen 157). One of the requirements of all Muslims is that they make a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca (Eastman 398). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the current knowledge of humans, these matters cannot be adequately explained. Furthermore, these ideas cannot be expressed with current human language (Barbour 90). To compensate for the inability to explain the unexplainable and the lack of sufficient answers to life s questions, Judeo Christian religions tend to employ tangible phenomena as much as possible. The concept of sacred space is important to religions, because it offers a tangible representation of the religion for its believers. This can help to humanize the supernatural and the concept of spirituality. Sacred space helps to provide a structure for religions, as it closes the gaps of understanding of concepts that are difficult to grasp with human understanding. Judeo Christian religions employ the concept of location as a storytelling tool. Stories help to explain intangible concepts, and the use of specific places in biblical stories helps to concretize these concepts. In the story of Adam and Eve, the Garden of Eden is described as a beautiful place. In the center of the garden are the Tree of Life and the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil (Gen. 2.8 3.24 NAB). This story utilizes tangible elements to represent deeper meanings. The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil symbolizes the Lord s omnipotence. When Eve eats from this tree, it represents humanity s sinful desire to be like God. In the New Testament, the story ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most people will eat what is in front of them. If a plate of food were to be placed in front of someone, they will continue to eat even once they aren t even hungry. Especially when it comes to handling their own money, people are very irresponsible. Piggy banks are meant to help nudge us to save money. It is very easy to put money into a piggy bank, but it is a pain to take the money out. This is a nudge to make the people not take the money out. One similar situation is a savings account a parent has for a child. The money in the savings account can not be withdrawn until the child turns 18. Money will continue to be deposited, but won t be withdrawn until the child is 18 and can use it for college. 5. Explain how one can violate the fungibility of money. Money is fungible because you can use it for anything. Yet this fungibility can be violated. Money can be compartmentalized into different budgets for different things. I do not think I can t remember a time that I laughed that hard. Since Taylor is one of my good friends I able to laugh at her without offending her. Another visual detail that always seems to have me laughing out loud is when I watch videos of dogs playing. I love watching videos of dogs that are doing trick and end up failing or when dogs do something funny but of course not videos of dogs hurting themselves. Now, for the last example of a visual detail that helps explain LOLOL is a classic. Taylor Bacon, my best friend and I live by a lake named Lake Ladue. Last summer we both decided to go canoeing so when we went we could rent out a canoe for two hours. Our trip on the lake was going smoothly besides the fact we could not make the canoe go straight. Amazing Grace by Jonathan Kozol At first glance and after reading through Amazing Grace, it seems that Jonathan Kozol is going to take us on a journey through the lives of the underprivileged, but similar to the ones you read about, or hear in the news. However, this is not the case; the real underlying theme seems to be how the life and society they live in is very alike to a life in a prison, not because it talks explicitly about prison conditions in this area, but also because their lives are portrayed as being a prison. Kozol uses the views of children and adults throughout this book to emphasize this theme through their living conditions and personal lives, background and struggles. Kozol writes about the trials and tribulations of everyday normal life for the people who live here. Normal for them, however, is quite different than it is for most of us. Living with drug dealers, pollution, poor hospital care and an awful education system, not to mention the social system of the city, is the normal for them. In his interviews, even with the children of this overlooked neighborhood, we find that the children speak honestly and freely about their feelings. Barack Obama, 2006 1.0Introduction In the past years, the possible future of the European Union (EU) has been of increasing interest to social and political scientists as well as the public. Since 2008, the EU has experienced events such as the economic crisis and the 2014 European Parliament election, which have fostered intense debates around the legitimising basis of the EU (Zielonka, 2014). Furthermore, with the election of David Cameron in the 2015 United Kingdom general election even the possibility of the United Kingdom leaving the EU has been discussed. Although many social and political scientists do not believe such a scenario (REFERENCE), one could argue that there is an increasing need for the EU to redefine itself in order not to experience a genuine downfall . They all go on Walkabouts, they all sing the songs of the Ancestors, and they all have tjurungas that they view as sacred. Another aspect of their religion is that they have Kirda and Kutungurlu in each tribe. Kirda is the owner or boss of the land, while Kutungurlu is the manager or helper of the boss (Chatwin, 98). The reason this binds the different tribes together is because the Kutungurlu has to be from a different totemic clan and was a nephew of the Kirda on his mother s side (Ferry, 98). This ensures that the clans communicate and be at peace with each other, as they are interdependent on the other. • 33. The Importance Of Classical Conditioning Classical conditioning is also referred to as Pavlovian or Respondent conditioning. It is a process of learning whereby a stimulus that is biologically potent such as food and a previously neutral stimulus such as a bell are paired. This write up aims to expound further on classical conditioning and why it matters (Gormezano at al, 275).This is because despite the fact that many people use the term a lot, they may not necessarily fully comprehend it meaning or the fact that it is by far one of the most basic forms when it comes to basic forms of learning. Most folks who do know something about it will quickly refer to Ian Pavlov s experiment with dogs and a bell that took place way back in 1927 and will normally end at that point due to lack of further insight on the subject matter.Classical conditioningis centered around involuntary automatic /reflexive responses rather than on operant conditioning(voluntary behavior). This therefore implies that for perfect classicconditioning to occur the responses are those that are made naturally by an animal being trained and that the responses must occur below the normal consciousness levels. Such responses include fast or slow heartbeat, nausea, and dilation of pupils or a sudden reaction to pain or pressure (Brewer $ William, 123).Usually the classic conditioning starts with an unconditional stimulus being paired with a neutral one. The neutral stimulus must be one that cannot or does not provoke any type of reaction from the test subject. The unconditional stimulus on the other hand needs to be something that provides reliable results when tested on the subject by producing an immediate natural response from the organism. This includes shining a light on the human eye in which case the pupil naturally reduces in size to limit the amount of light entering the eye. This is an example of a perfect unconditional response abbreviated as UCR by the scientist Pavlov in 1927. The moment the neutral stimulus is associated with the unconditional stimulus, it immediately becomes a conditional stimulus and if the two stimuli can occur together over a period of time, then they become associated which ... While many in the United States and Peru saw this agreement as positive legislation for further economic growth in both the U.S and Peru, many indigenous groups in Peru had concerns and doubts. Many indigenous people participated in demonstrations and protests against the TPA. The government often criminalized and repressed these relatively peaceful acts. On June 5th 2009, outside of Bagua Chica city violence ended up breaking out between sides, leading to 11 members of the police force and 23 civilians dead ( Peru Overturns ). WOLA along with 12 other human rights groups wrote a letter to the U.S Secretary of State asking for the government to examine the TPA, clarify it, and possibly repeal parts if necessary. They also condemned the violence that had happened on both sides of the dispute (WOLA). The Peruvian government decided to throw out a couple parts of the legislation to try and make the indigenous activists happy. While this did help calm things down there are still ongoing environmental problems especially for indigenous peoples. This is the case with most places in the 21st century. It is essential for our schooling because of how much we need to read and write on a daily basis, but once you move to the workplace, I believe that literacyis relative. More than that, I assert that it is individually relative to every single person in the world. There is no longer a clear and definitive definition of literacy. It would be unwise to generalize a group of people, so for the purpose of my argument, I will create a character that is likely to exist. A rice farmer from Bangladesh, my country of heritage, receives a book from a tourist. The tourist comes from a place of higher education, so he or she thinks that this gift is meaningful. Instead, the farmer politely declines the gift much to the confusion of the tourist. He explains to the tourist that he does not have a use for it because he does not have a proficient amount of reading skills. The tourist then counters him by saying that reading is a great pleasure and that he should try to learn so he could enjoy simple things like a novel. This is easy to say for the tourist to say because he lives a different life than the farmer, but the farmer s literacy has a cap that he is happy and functional with. The farmer can read things like farming equipment, seeds, produce and can do basic arithmetic like addition, subtraction, and perhaps multiplication. Art Of Near East Royalties Jinhwan Kim Professor Debin ArtHist 112 08 November 2016 Art of Near East Royalties Many people speculate on ancient artifacts with an eye towards its aesthetic value of contemporary etic perspective. While most people are not professional anthropologists who would try to be an anachronistic spectators of a so called unknown ancient society , the interesting historical and cultural aspects are embedded within every art piece throughout the ancient world. The ancient near east nations were characteristic in their own values just like any contemporary society, and they are worth the discussion through various aspects such as cultural, ideological, and historical. The first art piece called Ashurnasirpal II and a Winged Deity, discovered in Northern Iraq, Nimrud, in 9th century BC opens our exhibition of ancient near east art. The presence of many contents such as artistic canon, hierarchy of scale and composite view is most correspondent to the characteristics of Old Kingdom period of Egyptian art. The subject depicted in the panel is king Ashurnasirpal II on the left and the winged deity, god Ashur. In addition to details, hierarchy of scale is used for clarification; both king and the winged deity fully occupies the entire panel in absence of background features, and the deity is shown to be slightly taller than king Ashurnasirpal ii, to clarify its identity. • 42. Analysis Of The Book Fist Stick Knife Gun By Geoffrey... Geoffrey Canada pens a book that is part biography, part social view, a very thoughtful look into inner city violence and the rules surrounding it. The book describes how his personal history with violence influenced his work with youth and the programs that he has started to support them. Geoffrey Canada describes the progression of violence that had happened in his lifetime. He also points out that there is a disturbing difference between what the streets were like in the 1960s compared to those of today. As great storyteller, Geoffrey Canada is thoroughly convincing. His Book Fist Stick Knife Gun, is a great explanation of violence and poverty in late 20th century here in America s inner cities. Of how he changed from a timid and frightened child into a young man who could hold his own in a fight in the streets, is written in a believable way. Canada actually learned the way of the streets because he grew up in the streets. All of his experiences first started when he was a child when he and his friends used their fists to settle disputes and to gain a reputation that would bring respect from the other kids in the neighborhood. At times, those disputes would escalate with other weapons like a knife. Having grown up in the South Bronx in the 1960s, Mr. Canada brings you to a time when violence was ever present but guns were not. At that time there were a very few adult men in the neighborhood, and the police were of very little assistance. Not even old enough ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Chemiluminescence Lab In this experiment, luminol, a compound that produces chemiluminescence when oxidized in the presence of a base by an oxidizing agent like hydrogen peroxide, was synthesized, and its presence was confirmed by observing chemiluminescence. Cheminluminescence is the process by which a photon is released when a reaction occurs, producing light. A similar process, bioluminescenceis observed in nature when fireflies and jellyfish produce light. Chemiluminescence is identical to bioluminescence, except for the fact that bioluminescence involves an enzyme, whereas chemiluminescence uses a chemical catalyst. Two types of light emission are fluorescence and phosphorescence. In its stable condition, an electron exists in a ground singlet state. During a reaction, it may absorb energy and become elevated to an excited state. In most situations, the electron returns to the ground singlet state by passing through a number of vibrational states and releasing energy, which is not perceived by the human eye. Is this example, the darkness the night brings symbolises loss of hope, and becoming closer to death. Once Wiesel gave up trying, and claimed it was over, the light in his life got slightly dimmer, and he became closer to death. The next reason Night was the title of the memoir written by Wiesel was because the darkness in night symbolized death. Thousands of Jews were sentenced to death each day, leaving everybody a little more hurt and broken. The first example of death, that helps portray the title of Night, is in the quote, Was there a single place here where you were not in danger of death? (Wiesel 37). In this quote, Wiesel shows how dangerous and recurrent death was and bases the title off of these dangerous, mass killings. Darkness commonly symbolizes death, and the pain and suffering one feels being exposed to it. The symbol also helps show that the killings were not normal, they were darker like the night, more evil and inhumane than anything they had previously experienced. The title Night, symbolizes the darkness during this painful event, and the darkness universally symbolizes evil. So by using the title Night, Wiesel is able to indirectly explain how inhumane these mass killings really are. Another quote that shows the title is used to symbolize ... Covey When I went through professor s required book list, I recognized the book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, at my first glance. I do remember that I read its Chinese version which was a present from my grandfather almost ten years ago when I was a teenager. Shortly after feeling excited, I was a little embarrassed because I barely remember the 7 habits. Now as an adult almost a decade later, after finished the book, the original work, I was impressed. The immaturity made me believe that most of the points of Covey were too obvious and trite to make sense. But now those things Covey talked about are actually tough challenges in my life. The precondition of the Covey s theory is that a lot of people fix the problems in a scattershot approach which will eventually lead to chaos or disappointment for the most time. The author s answer to this is to be an effective person. People needs to learn to solve problems from personal life, study and work with an approach based on a same core values. The book is about how to develop the core values basically through the seven habits in order to be a more effective person. The seven habits also help to achieve greater insights into leadership and management in people s personal and professional life in the effective way. The seven habits are: 1. Be proactive 2.
