The Cia And Central Intelligence Agency
The CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) in the United States has been involved in several operations
with drug trafficking. Some of these reports claim that the evidence of the Congress indicates that
the CIA worked with groups that were known to be involved in drug trafficking. The deals mainly
include providing the CIA with useful information and support material, in exchange for allowing
their criminal activities to continue, and impede or prevent the arrest, prosecution and
imprisonment from United Stateslaw enforcement agencies. This war on drugs was used as an
easy way to increase repression in inner cities and confiscate millions of dollars in private assets
through unconstitutional forfeiture laws. These assets were used to fund police burgeoning, and as
an active participant in the illegal drug trade, public resources were used to bring heroinand cocaine
into American inner cities since the 1960 s.
The most controversial public episode was when the report of the Kerry Committee came to the
conclusion that the members of the Department of State of the United States of America those who
had provided support for the contras, were involved in drug trafficking [ ... ] and the own elements
of the contras, were received with his consent financial and material assistance from drug traffickers
.
In 1996 Gary Webb wrote a series of articles published in the San Jose Mercury News, as a result of

Looking Out for Number One T.H. Breen
Bri Swartley
An Analysis of Looking Out for Number One:
Conflicting Cultural Values in Early Seventeenth Century Virginia by: T.H. Breen
I believe what Breen is trying to say in his essay is that the Englishmen that came to Virginia
were very different from the settlers of other colonies and they had a much different society
develop than what was typical in the other colonies. They were a highly individualistic society.
Breen believes that the personalities of those who came to Virginia were, in part what caused
Virginia s society to become so individualistic. Being so individualistic didn t exactly work out so
well for the structure of society or the well being of the colonists. Breen says that the first people to

Virginia had a slave population of 187,600 in 1770 (135). This number is more than double that of
any other colony at the time.
4. I do agree with Breen s point of view and for the most part it agrees with our text. I would
probably be more likely to agree with Breen that the people of Virginia did not form a military
band and fight back against the Indians especially how the text talks about Indians remaining a
strong presence. It wouldn t make much sense for the Indians to remain a strong presence if they
are constantly being attacked by the settlers. I think the reason that the Indians stayed around is
because Virginia was not effectively fighting them off because they didn t have any type of
formalized military, or formalized anything for that matter, not even schools.
5. Slavery in New York City, 1731 ALAW For Regulating Negroes and Slaves in the Night Time I
don t think that this document had too much to do with Breen s essay Looking Out For Number
One but rather it comes slightly later. I do think that the drastic rise in slave labor shows how
Virginia was willing to exploit people in order to turn a profit and how it would be necessary for
them to enact laws regulating the liberties of slaves to keep them from rising up when the population

King Henry Viii Influence
King Henry VIII was one of the most infamous monarchs in English History. King Henry VIII
gained legitimacy through the Elitist Theory and the power from his father, he gained power the
Coercion Theory and the killing of his wives, and he retained authority through the Machiavellian
Theory and becoming Protestant. King Henry VIII used the power from his father successfully
which led him to gaining legitimacy. Henry also took advantage of the killing of his wives in order
to show power. Finally, King Henry VIII became Protestant in order to retain authority. The first
step in his journey to retain authority was to gain legitimacy. Legitimacy, the first step of many
steps to retaining authority. As understood by most social scientists, political... Show more content

And among these forces Machiavelli was one. In history, then, as opposed to history play,
Machiavelli s influence may have been more direct; but, in any event, Machiavellianism is a valid
and serviceable term for describing the harsher political ambience of Henry VIII, especially as it
applies, in turn, to Buckingham, Wolsey, and Henry (McBride 1977). King Henry created the
Church of England just to get an annulment with one of his wives because the Pope of the
Catholic Church would not do it again, so he became his own pope.Henry also became
Protestant for the same reason. King Henry kept getting married for only two reasons, getting a
son and gaining a coalition. He went against the Church for his own self interest... to get an
annulment with his wife to just get a new wife whom he would probably just kill or divorce.
Also, King Henry VIII created the Act of Supremacy to gain authority in which took authority
from the Pope of the Church of England, and also made him Supreme Head of the Church of
England. This effectively stripped all of the authority the Pope held in England and gave it to
Henry VIII. Also because of the Act of Supremacy Henry VIII gained a new title: Supreme Head of
the Church of England (Gillaspie 2008). King Henry used the acts, methods, and theories to retain

Essay on Stereotypes in media
Bringing Down the House featuring Steve Martin and Queen Latifah is a clever comedy that
creatively showcases the sociolinguistic phenomena covered in this course. The film is about a tax
attorney named Peter, played by Martin, who stumbles into an online lawyer chat room and meets
Charlene, played by Latifah. The two chat frequently, mostly about court cases, and eventually
decide to meet in person. When the day finally comes, Peter is greeted at the door with who he
thought would be a middle aged Caucasian woman, but happened to be Charlene, a black woman
who just escaped from prison. Thinking this was a mistake, Peter tries to kickout Charlene but is
later convinced she is the one who he was speaking with in the chat room. Charlene... Show more

In attempt to do so, he uses Sarah s language that he believes she would be more inclined to listen
to. The father s usage of the modern hip hop language is an example of generational conflict.
Implied by other clips in the movie, we conclude the father s environment as an attorney requires
him to use a more conservative language that has been more or less designated to his generation.
This contrasts with the daughters modern and hip hop language that incorporates many slang
terminologies, non standard English sentences and phrases, and a very relaxed tone. Although we
see the father is able to put a couple sentences together, everything from his tone and range
clearly show his inexperience to the speech. An example to showcase his failure is when he
attempts to say an he try da get al up in dat. The father used the same expression but with different
pronunciation. Peter says and he tried to get all up in that, which is clearly too formal for this
speech and loses the flavor of what makes the language so authentic to the hip hop generation. Peter
and Sarah both speak standard English, but this is another example of how it can vary. Even though
the two are family and from the same class, their generation gap influences the variation of English
they speak.

Davis, E Bowers Museum Review Located in Santa Ana, CA the Bowers Museum can be seen
in a similar light as the art work Levitated Mass by Michael Heizer. I say this because the Bowers

was the Agate Rhyton . This piece is carved into a drinking vessel in the shape of an Impala (I

Whale Talk Reflection
The twists and turns of your life can be so unexpected, and that s a good thing to learn. Whale
talk is a story of a kid named T.J and some of his friends that go through a life of a teenager. In the
story Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher, people who have been through traumatic events cope with
challenges in their lives by overcoming, forgetting, or learning.
Forgetting is how some people cope with their traumatic events in life. Something that would be
hard to unsee is this traumatic because it would definitely make me feel extremely bad. This was a
terrible start to chapter 5 because these are real world problems. But somehow while the baby s
grandmother wasn t looking, the little boy crawled under the truck and got caught between the rear

The United States General Election Essay
While the 2016 United States general election has been in itself special with regards to the deep
division among the electorate and lack of favorability of the two frontrunners for the presidency,
it still has the unique American system of being dominated by two major political parties;
Republicans and Democrats. Over time these political parties have experienced massive changes
but in modern America they have crafted very unique identities. With regards to social issues such
as abortion rights and treatment of minority groups and economic issues such as fiscal spending,
income taxes and welfare, Republicans in general have been characterized as mainly conservative,
tax averse and against government entitlements while Democrats have been generally
characterized as mainly liberal on these same issues. Altogether political affiliations to either the
right or the left can be categorized based on their preference for stability. Liberals are generally
seen as being more adaptable to a changing environment for example in the case for LGBTQ rights
where the changing environment has generally led them to be more acceptable while conservatives
are more likely to be less open, sticking to what they consider traditional values. These attributes
have for a long time been seen to be largely determined by the political atmosphere in an individuals
environment but growing research has shown that these characteristics have a significant
association with human genetics. In this paper I

My Research For Brave New World
Cultural Clash In my research for Brave New World, I came across literary criticism that unveiled
fresh perspective of the work when it comes to the psychology of characters. The idea of a
perfectly stable world versus a world of recklessness and savagery that shape every aspect of human
morale and convictions held at society s core beliefs; which through psychological analysis of
characters and how their external influences can vindicate questionable actions displayed by those
in the novel. The dichotomy of inherited and learned behavior in society, clashes with diffusions of
culture ands impacts on instinctive culture, all accentuated by John the Savage and his intricately
fervent relationships with other characters in the novel,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Rise Of Wilsons Tax Reform
Tax reforms started in 1916 when the Wilson administration decided to cooperate with a group of
insurgent democrats on war time financing, which was majorly progressive taxation. This was
important because it led to attacking the wealthy, special privilege, and public corruption. The
administration embraced this taxation as means to achieve social justice. Another major element to
Wilsons administration was redistributional taxation. This helped drive between socialism and
unmediated capitalism. The major debate at the time was over the question, What stake does
society have in corporate profits? The debates outcome created soak the rich income taxation.

Effects Of World War II On The World
History 465 7760 Final Exam Christy Brown May 2, 2015 Prompt 6: Although the war ended in
1945, the effects of World War II are widespread throughout the 20th century and into the 21st.
International relations, technological development, economic growth and failure, social
upheaval, and many other areas of life were influenced by the war. Explain how World War II
influenced the world since 1945. Many changes have occurred in the world today as a result of
World War II. Many of those changes include economic growth and failure in various countries,
improved or strained international relations between countries, and probably most importantly,
vast technological advances in several countries. Many of the differences between post World
War II and pre World War II are not immediately visible to the untrained observer, especially in
the area of technological advances. It is safe to say, however, that the world would not be what it
is today had World War II not brought about the vast changes that it did. As we discussed in class,
post war really started in the middle of the war, during 1942, where various optimistic countries
started to make plans for after they won the war. On the first of January, 1942, the Allies got
together and signed the Declaration by United Nations, which basically outlined the war aims of the
Allied Powers. In August of 1943, the UN established the four policemen, which consisted of the
USSR, UK, China, and the United States. These were the

So the Smart, connected products require a whole set of new design principles to achieve the
changes of product types. (3) Marketing These two are the processes you use to persuade your
clients to purchase from you instead of your competitors. As a newly developed function, the
connection function should absolutely be focused on. Whether on marketing or sales. You should
advertise a lot about the functional advantage. You also need to introduce the trend of the third
wave of IT so that customers may understand how wonderful the Smart Connected product is.
What s more, the Smart, connected products allow companies to form new kinds of relationships
with customers, requiring new marketing practices and skill sets. As companies accumulate and
analyze product usage data, they gain new insights into how products create value for customers,
allowing better positioning of offerings and more effective communication of product value to
customers. (4) Service and sales It is the activity of maintaining the value of the product to
customers after it has been purchased. To the Old Economy products, when you meet some
obstacles of using or some quality problems, you have to meet after sales service personnel, either

Sexual Imagery In Sexual Advertising
The idea of using sexual imagery to boost products sales and company revenue is defiantly not a
new one. Tom Reichert from the University of Alabama wrote in his article A review of Content,
Effects, and Functions of Sexual Information in Consumer Advertising that as early as 1885 W.
Duke Sons placed trading cards in cigarette packs that had sexually provocative ladies on them to
try and boost sales. The company seemed to be successful with the promotion and by 1890 they
were one of the leading brands of cigarettes. Another early example was found in 1910. A women s
beauty bar company; Woodbury s Facial Soap was struggling with sales until they started using
advertisingthat showed couples in a romantic embrace. Reichert notes in contemporary mainstream
consumer advertising (e.g., magazines, network and cable television), sex is present in
promotional messages for a wide range of branded goods (Reichert, 2002 pg. 242).
Reichert then goes on to say
ads feature provocative images of well defined women (and men) in revealing outfits and postures
selling clothing, alcohol, beauty products, and fragrances. Advertisers such as Calvin Klein,
Victoria s Secret, and Pepsi use these images to cultivate a ubiquitous sex tinged media presence
(Reichert,2002 pg. 242).
Reichert explains to his readers that there are six distinct types of sexual advertising content. The
first type is Body Display. This type of advertising content could be described as revealing clothing

Relation between Pearl and Nature in Nathaniel...
The Relation between Pearl and Nature in The Scarlet Letter
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s work, The Scarlet Letter, nature plays a very symbolic role. Throughout
the book, nature is incorporated into the story line. One example of this is with the character of
Pearl. Pearl is very different than all the other characters due to her special relationship with Nature.
Hawthorne personifies Nature as sympathetic towards sins against the puritan way of life. Hester s
sin causes Nature to accept Pearl.
First it is necessary to examine how nature is identified with sin against the Puritan way of life. The
first example of this is found in the first chapter regarding the rosebush at the prison door. This
rosebush is located on one side ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This rosebush symbolizes the sympathy of Nature towards the very people Puritan society has
condemned.
The idea illustrated by the rosebush can therefore be applied to the specific character of Pearl.
Because Pearl was expelled from Puritan society Nature sympathizes with her. Nature s sympathy
and partiality with Pearl can be seen with the sunshine in the forest. Pearl attempts to catch the
sunshine and according to Hawthorn Pearl . . . did actually catch the sunshine . . . The light
lingered about the lonely child, as if glad of such a playmate . . . (146). Hawthorn describes
another sign of acceptance as the great black forest . . . became the playmate of the lonely infant
(163). Hawthorne eventually declares that The truth seems to be . . . that the mother forest, and
these wild things which it nourished, all recognized a kindred wildness in the human child (163).
All natural things and Nature accept this little girl who has been thrust out of Puritan society.
A way to strengthen this point is to show Nature s reaction to Hester. The strange thing is that the
sunshine runs from Hester even though it was her sin against the Puritan laws that produced Pearl
who is accepted by the sunshine or Nature. In fact [the sunshine] runs away and hides itself,
because it is afraid of something on [Hester s] bosom (146), the Scarlet Letter, which represents
Hester s acceptance of Puritan law and

The Importance Of Leadership, Managerial Policies, And...
This analysis is on the organization Symmetry Financial. This essay will discuss the attitudes,
leadership, managerial policies, and practices used by them. By using this data, I will provide a list
of recommendations on how to improve the company. This analysis will describe the culture, nature
of the company, motivational techniques, and modes of communication used. I will provide
information about the company to ensure that the readers understand all of the different categories
used to analyze the company. Information on how individuals, and groups of people behave within
the organization is examined within. I will also be evaluating their leadership techniques and how
the owners assist in the day to day running of the business.
One of the most important things a business needs to be successful is happy employees. It is
important for employees and managers have an established plan to deal with critical matters.
Managers must study the behavior of their employees to decide how they will achieve their desired
goals. Organizational behavior is the study of human behavior in organizational settings, the
interface between human behavior and the organization, and the organization itself. (Griffin, 2012)
We can divide organizational behavior in 3 separate categories. The first one is the individuals
within the organization. The second is the work group which is made by placing workers into
specific groups. The last one is how the organization itself behaves.

communications that attempted to maintain the quality of human relationships with the

because yes he is asking for advice. however, he is still listening and doing what the actually head

Recommending Continued Sponsorship of the Posse Ride Essay
Recommending Continued Sponsorship of the Posse Ride
This is to recommend continued sponsorship of the Posse ride. In order to maximize the
effectiveness and profit making potential, I propose the following changes in this program 1)
Repeating successful routes. 2) Involvement of HOG members in route selection. 3) Follow up with
Posse participants
30 days after the completion of events. 4) Creating spontaneity during the ride. 5) Increased
participation of employees on the rides. These new initiatives would help us better understand
customer needs and build long lasting relationship with customers.

Reinforcement of the brand leads to more sales and profits. In addition, it provides our dealers to
generate revenue and sell merchandise at stores.
Currently only 1 in 1,000 members took part in 1999 Posse ride. Repeating successful routes
attracts new riders who have heard stories from other HOG members. Using the same route leads
to greater efficiency and builds better relationship with dealers. We could also utilize the
experience of existing riders in ironing out rough patches on existing routes and building new
routes. This would lead to active participation from members in creating new rallies and
increasing participation as well. We need to follow up with Posse participants after the rally as
well, rather than take a survey immediately after the end of the rally, we should get feedback
after 30 days. This would provide us with candid refection and input for improvement with future
rides. In order to negate the effect of overdose of Posse Rides we should add some creative
spontaneity to each event. This would provide the riders with flair of expecting the unexpected. In
order to understand and gel with the customer I recommend increased involvement of employees in
Posse rides. The involvement should not be from outside but they should actually ride with HOG
members and experience the same feeling. This would enable employees to build lasting
relationship and gather feedback from riders.
Through the Posse Ride we can

Cultural Differences Between The Nisei And The Issei
In 1869, the first Japanese Immigrants arrived in California in an attempt to escape the Meiji
restoration, which forced them out of their houses. Many joined them in America after that, forming
the first generation of Japanese Americans, the Issei. Those immigrants then formed families and
gave birth to the second generation, the Nisei. However, the cultural differences between the Issei
and the Nisei, who were all born in America, created an important gap between the two generations.
The short story Seventeen Syllables , through the relation between Rosie, a Nisei young girl, and
Tome Hayashi, her mother, is a good depiction of this issue.
First of all, the lack of a common language between the Nisei and the Issei was the main problem
in their relations. Most the Nisei went to American schools where they learned everything in
English. The Issei, for their part, had learned Japanese as their first language. In Seventeen
Syllables , Rosie only has little knowledge in Japanese. Here, the author describes a bit more her
level in that language: It was about cats, and Rosie pretended to understand it thoroughly and
appreciate it no end, partly because she hesitated to disillusion her mother about the quantity and
quality of Japanese she had learned in all the years now that she had been going to Japanese school
every Saturday (and Wednesday, too, in the summer). (170) It reflects the delicate situation in which
that ignorance put the Nisei. To make their parents proud,

The Cause and Effects of Anorexia
The Cause and Effects of Anorexia Anorexia nervosa, commonly referred to simply as anorexia,
is one type of eating disorder. More importantly, it is also a psychological disorder. Anorexia is a
condition that goes beyond out of control dieting. A person with anorexia often initially begins
dieting to lose weight. Over time, the weight loss becomes a sign of mastery and control. The
drive to become thinner is actually secondary to concerns about control and/or fears relating to
one s body. The individual continues the endless cycle of restrictive eating, often accompanied by
other behaviors such as excessive exercising or the overuse of diet pills, laxatives, and/or enemas
in order to reduce body weight, often to a point close to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When anorexics finally come to the attention of the health care professional, they often lack
insight into their problem despite being severely malnourished and may be unreliable in terms of
providing accurate information. Therefore, it is often necessary to obtain information from
parents or other family members in order to evaluate the degree of weight loss and extent of the
disorder. Health professionals will sometimes administer questionnaires for anorexia as part of
screening for the disorder. Anorexia can have dangerous psychological and behavioral effects on
all aspects of an individual s life and can affect other family members as well. The individual can
become seriously underweight, which can lead to depression and social withdrawal. The individual
can become irritable and easily upset and have difficulty interacting with others. Sleep can become
disrupted and lead to fatigue during the day.Attention and concentration can decrease. * Most
individuals with anorexia become obsessed with food and thoughts of food. They think about it
constantly and become compulsive about eating rituals. They may collect recipes, cut their food
into tiny pieces, prepare elaborate calorie laden meals for other people, or hoard food. Additionally,
they may exhibit other obsessions and/or compulsions related to food, weight, or body shape that

An Analysis of the Roots of Colonialism in William Shakespear s Character Caliban in The Tempest
On the way to discover a new sailing path to India, Christopher Columbus discovers another
continent believing e to be India. The continent is later visited by Americo Vespucio who
determines it is not India and names it America. The Ottoman Empire had blocked the previous
path to India and deprived the Europeans from the spices and silk they were accustomed to. After
its discovery, the new continent became the destination for unwanted people in Europe, including
prisoners. This was followed with massive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Theodor Elze (1889) the island in The Tempest is Pantalaria, whose natural sights
correspond with the descriptions in the play, and its nearby town of African coast Calibia, served
as an inspiration to Shakespeare. Another explanation for the name Caliban is kalebon, an Arabic
word for vile dog , common reference for North African creature in England at that period. Dutch
scholar Albert Kluyver, would eliminate the cannibal, as it did not exist in English language with
the same meaning as in Shakespeare`s time, instead he believes it to mean black in gypsy
language. It is very probable that Shakespeare addressed African slaves, since Prospero himself in
the play, observes Caliban as filth , something inhuman. (Vaughan and Vaughan). The relationship
between Prospero and Caliban could be Shakespeare`s way of describing the treatment of African
slaves by European feudalists. This marvellous literature piece is a testimony of slavery and its
roots. Even more, few years after Shakespeare died, the biggest export of African slaves took
place and racism was imprinted in people`s subconscious. Shakespeare describes the horrible
manner African slaves were treated and the aggressiveness by which they responded to that
treatment, since Caliban could be a victim or aggressor, since he tried to rape Miranda. As illiterate
and simple creature,

Scarlet Letter Hypocrisy
Puritanism was an early 17th century religion that branched off of Protestantism. The people who
followed this religion were expected to live an earnest life.Though it seemed that the Puritans knew
their religion very well and followed all the customs and practices, there was much hypocrisy.
Author Arthur Miller and Nathaniel Hawthorne depict this contradiction in their novels The
Crucible and The Scarlet Letter. In the Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne uses a resentful tone to describe
the feeling of being a hypocrite. Else, I should long ago have thrown off these garments of mock
holiness, and have shown myself to mankind as they will see me at the judgment seat. Happy are
you, Hester, that wear the scarlet letter openly upon your bosom! Mine burns... Show more content

Dimmsdale was thought to be a true priest, a true religionist, with the reverential sentiment
largely developed, and an order of mind that impelled itself powerfully along the track of a creed
(84). Him commiting adultery with Hester and staying on his pulpit makes him a hypocrite no
questions asked. In The Crucible, Abigail tries to make people believe she is an innocent child
but she is actually one of the biggest hypocrites in the story. I want to open myself!... I want the
light of Jesus! I danced for the Devil; I saw him I wrote in his book; I go back to Jesus;I kiss His
hand (45). In confessing her sin, Abigail is showing how she was a hypocrite. She claimed to
want the light of God yet she went and danced with the devil. She doesn t kiss the hand of Jesus
she kisses the hand of death. Miller uses a ironic tone to depict the hypocrisy of Abigail. Abigail
also can be considered a hypocrite for her love scandal with John Proctor Mliller uses a somber
and romantic tone to describe how much Abigail was in love with Proctor.. I know how you

Life Cycle Assessment ( Lca )
1.Introduction Background
The built environment as a whole is said to contribute about half the greenhouse gas emissions in
the world (UNEF 2007). Specifically, considering the less studied area of construction emissions,
research shows that this component accounts for as much as 11.7% of emissions inclusive of direct
and indirect emissions (Acquaye Duffy 2010). As such it has significant impact on the environment
and represents a major opportunity to study potential reductions.
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is one of the techniques that is used in order to quantify and improve
the sustainability of buildings with respect to the efficiency of energy utilized in that building.
The energy emissions can be subdivided into embodied energy and operating energy based on the
energy required in the construction, operation, maintenance or demolition of buildings (Ramesh,
Prakash Shukla 2010). Most of the emphasis in this research area has been given to the operating
energy of the buildings, although there has been some research that has been carried out on the
energy emissions due to physical waste arising from the renovation or demolition of the buildings
(Blengini 2009; Coelho de Brito 2012). For example, NABERS is an energy monitoring program
that is being used in Australia to quantify operating energy.
Operating energy forms the vast majority of the greenhouse gas emissions in the life cycle of any
office building while the contribution of embodied energy towards the

Neoclassicism and the Enlightenment Essay
Neoclassicism and the Enlightenment
The Enlightenment was a time of great innovation and evolution. One of the most significant
movements which owes at least the majority of its beginnings to the Enlightenment is the
architectural and artistic movement of Neoclassicism. This Neoclassicism of the mid eighteenth to
mid nineteenth centuries is one that valued ancient Greek, Roman, and
Etruscan artistic ideals.
These ideals, including order, symmetry, and balance, were considered by many European
generations to be the highest point of artistic excellence. Although many movements in European art
were largely devoid of classical characteristics, they were always looked to as sources of inspiration
and were revived as significant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pettiness of these movements had created a backlash and these thinkers and art critics
welcomed the harsher and more ordered Neoclassical style as they began to swing the art pendulum
in the opposite direction.
One of the primary causes in the rise of Neoclassicism in the mid eighteenth century was the
expansion of what was previously called a classical education. By 1750 Italian tourism was already
a full blown industry, with guides and guidebooks circulating throughout
Europe. As a part of any young man s education, he now had to make the artistic tour of Italy,
especially Florence, Rome, and Naples. This was not just a quick visit to a couple museums;
rather, it was a lengthy, often times more than a year, and in depth study of the rich trove of art
that these cities had to offer. It was supplemented with classes and lectures at the museums and
time taken after these to sketch or paint these precious works to take home. The proliferation of
these sketches would compound and any aspiring artist was also then required to study these
works. The increased influence and awareness of Greek and Roman art in the studies of the
developing artists would soon begin to show in their designs.
One of the most significant reasons that a renewed interest in Italy has arisen was the recently
found sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
The excavation of these sites revealed massive amounts

emotional awareness, and the development of managerial behaviors that are effective in the

The Power Of Parliament And Parliamentary Sovereignty
Prior to the English Civil War and Glorious Revolution the Crown acted outside Parliament,
causing there to be a struggle for power between the King, the Courts and the Parliament in the
17th Century. Eventually the Courts and Parliament defeated the power of the King and
Parliamentary Sovereignty emerged. Parliamentary sovereignty holds that parliament has absolute
sovereignty it is the supreme law maker over all other government institutions. There are no legal
limitations on the legislative competence of Parliament and no person is allowed to override or
set aside the law of Parliament. R (on the application of Jackson) v AG (2005) shows that the
definition of an Act of Parliament differs according to whether it has been passed with consent of
House of Commons and Lords or just the House of Commons. The courts have the power to decide
if a document is an Act of Parliament. In this case they found that the Parliament Act 1949 and the
Hunting Act 2004 were passed under procedure laid down by Parliament Act 1949 and are valid
statutes. For Dicey, it was the very keystone of the law of the constitution that Parliament is the
sovereign or supreme legislative authority in the state. He defined Parliamentary Sovereignty as The
principle of Parliamentary sovereignty means neither more nor less than this, namely, that
Parliament has, under the English constitution, the right to make or unmake any law whatever; and,
further, that no person or body is recognised by

Alcohol Drinking can cause fetal alcohol syndrome, including symptoms like behavior
abnormalities, low birth weight, and medical problems. If you re pregnant or think you may be
pregnant you should not be consuming alcohol at all. 2.Smoking Smoking is not only bad for
you, but bad for your baby as well. Smoking during pregnancy reduces the amount of oxygen that
the baby receives and increases the risk of miscarriage, bleeding, and morning sickness.
Chemicals inhaled while smoking may lead to other health problems with the baby. Reduced
birth weight, premature birth, increased risk of SIDS, and stillbirth are other possible
consequences. Pregnant women should also avoid second hand smoke. 3.Caffeine There are
many conflicting studies about caffeine and pregnancy and some believe that caffeine is not as
harmful as it was once thought to be. The FDA warns against caffeine consumption during
pregnancy because it has been shown to affect fetal heart rates and awake time which is when
fetuses grow when sleeping. The FDA suggests quitting or reducing consumption at the very

Women During The Han Dynasty
Women during the Han Dynasty
Lessons for Women is a book of conduct written during the Han Dynasty by Ban Zhao (C. 45 120)
to advise the women of her family on the proper conduct of a wife. Ancient China around this time
was a Confucian state in which the society was control by the belief in order and harmony. The
book contains seven chapters that talks about: humility, husband and wife, respect and caution,
womanly qualifications, wholehearted devotion, implicit obedience, and harmony with younger
brothers and sisters in law. This work of literature reflects on how a proper women was to behave
obediently to the husband, by being devoted and respectful to avoid humility to herself, her parents
and her clan. It gives the readers an idea of the power that men had over women during this time
period and the exceptions for both roles of husband and wife. Lessons of women informs the
readers that women during the Han Dynasty had no control over their own lives and the philosophy
of Confucian had a huge influence on the society s everyday life. Ban Zhao emphasizes the
importance of distinctions between men and women, and their separate natures.
From the time of birth a woman is taught to be a good wife, she learns how to submit herself to her
husband and understands that her sole purpose in life is to serve him. Humility was not
something that a women was to bring to her family. Rituals were held because it was believed there

The Treaty of Versailles Resulted in Another Huge War
The treaty of Versailles, written in Paris Peace Conference by four allied nations, contributed to the
culmination of World War I between Germany and those four nations, which were United States,
France, Great Britain and Italy. Even though the purpose of the treaty was to prevent further
conflict and war, it, in fact, failed to treat all nations justifiably, including the losers of the war
(Germany), because it mandated Germany to solely compensate for the loss and damages caused
by the war. The restrictions treated Germany like a colony and eventually led to the decrease of
German military forces, financial bankruptcy caused by excessive reparation and the rise of
Nazis which triggered World War II. First of all, according to the section five of Article 159 213
of the treaty, Germany was limited to carry or maintain certain number of troops which led to
significant decrease in total military forces. The treaty forced Germany to keep navy, army and
air force as small as possible (1). Additionally, the number of army was diminished to 100,000
troops with no armored vehicles and they were limited to six battleships, six light cruisers,
twelve destroyers, twelve torpedo and no submarines (1). What is worse is the fact that
Germany was not able to defend itself anymore as it had to get rid of bunkers, defense systems and
mines from rivers, seas and harbors (1) and was prohibited to possess poison gas, armed aircraft,
tanks, blockades on ships and armored cars (2).

Adolescent Suicide Is A Preventable Public Health Issue
Introduction
Although most of the media attention focuses on adolescent homicide, suicide deaths should have
us more alarmed, and we should understand that adolescent suicide is a preventable public health
issue. In adolescent Suicide deaths are more prevalent than homicide deaths (CDC, 2012).
According to the National Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Web based Injury Statistics Query
and Reporting System (WISQARS), suicide is the second leading cause of death for adolescents
age 13 to 17 (CDC, 2016). That number surpasses the number of deaths due to chronic diseases
such as cancer, HIV, and diabetes. While this is a significant number, not all suicide attempts are

(Durkheim, 1951, Danigelis, Pope,1979).
Shneidman s theory of psychache argues suicide is caused by a certain kind of psychological
pain. Risk factors increases psychache which leads an individual to suicidality (Shneidman,
1993). The pain is so unbearable to an individual that the only way to relieve it is suicide.
Baumeister s escape theory of suicide believes certain steps promotes suicide, 1) individuals
perception of expectations and actual events are more negative, 2) an aversive self awareness
develops, (individual focuses on negative aspects of them self and become depressed) 3) in an
attempt to escape the effects from the first two steps an individual goes into a state of cognitive
deconstruction (.Baumeister, 1990) This reduces inhibition which leads to a lack of impulse control.
These theories focus more on the emotional and psychological aspect of suicide. They seem to
identify what causes the suicide ideation. However, it does not explain how one goes from
emotion to action. Just because someone has thought about suicide, does not mean they will
attempt suicide, they need to have the acquired capability (lack of fear of dying) in order to
attempt suicide (Joiner, 2005, Van Orden et al.,). Suicide is a very difficult act, it requires you to
go against the self preservation you have been programmed with (Ohman Mineka, 2001).

Assisted Reproduction Technologies Pros And Cons

development of ART, Assisted Reproductive Technology. The use of Assisted Reproductive
Technologies has been brought to allow pregnancies to be effectuated when the natural way is not
option. The interest for unnatural pregnancybegan in the early 1800s when John Hunter, a Scottish

Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, And Nat King...
Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, and Nat King Cole. These men all lived vastly
different lives, but one exploit that they will always hold in common is that they helped to
develop jazz into the integral part of music it exists as today. Jazz created a form of expression
that allowed an entire generation to show what they valued and what they represented in life, which
is exactly what the men I mentioned earlier did. Accordingly, they did not just make catchy tunes
for dancing to and melancholy songs for crying to, they wove narratives that described their hope,
dreams, and struggles. Moreover, this expression is why jazz almost synonymous represents the
development of African American culture in the late 19th and early 20th century. The genre
provided an opportunity for blacks to break free of the poverty and racism that still attempted to

movements including the Civil Rights Movement and Harlem Renaissance. Consequently, jazz
remains one of the most influential parts of African American culture today. It not only helped
blacks show pride in and develop their culture, but it also allowed an ordinarily overlooked raceto
display its struggles to the world and blur the barrier between white and black. To truly understand
why music, and jazz, remain such a monumental part of African American culture, it is important to

coalition forces and radical Jihadists, it was the war s magnum opus with urban combat rivaling
what Marines faced in 1968 on the streets of Hue city Vietnam during the Tet offensive (Head,
105). While many debate the war overall the focus of this essay is on the battle itself and how the
US government created the circumstances in which the insurgency in Fallujah could flourish as
well as the ideology and motives of the Jihadi fighters and US forces and why the battle was
necessary for US forces to wage so they could begin the process of bringing western... Show more

23, 2003 and took up positions inside a local school house, Ba ath Party headquarters, and the Ba

goodwill between the two. Tensions came to a head on April 28th 2003 when an estimated
several hundred residents broke the US installed curfew and marched towards the army bases in
protest of them taking up position inside the schoolhouse. Soldiers opened fire on the protesters
killing as many as 17 and wounding more than 70 of them US soldiers stated that they were
returning fire but an independent investigation by human rights organization found no evidence
US forces had come under fire on April 28th (Head, 107). Two days later the 82nd was replaced

Examples Of Ethics In Good Will Hunting
Abstract: The movie Good Will Hunting (1997) by Gus Van Sant depicted an intelligent man, Will
Hunting, with issues fitting in society and maintaining relationship connections and the therapists
who successfully changed Will s outlook at the world . However, it wasn t without certain
technical flaws and possible crossing of certain code of ethics. This paper raises the issue of the
potential erroneous counseling depiction in movies and certain ethical principles that may have
been violated in such depiction, discusses connection problems of the main character, Will
Hunting, and possible reasons why one particular therapist was able to assist him with his
problems whereas other counselors have failed, as well as a reflection based on the author s own
opinion.
Cinematic movies featuring therapists are quite common and sometimes even popular. While
entertaining, often, the depictions of counseling in the movies do not always reflect reality. In the
1997 film, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the key reasons why Sean was able to teach Will to open up was to by first opening up
himself. Sean was not afraid to show his faults and allowed Will to challenge him on certain,
albeit emotionally charged, occasions. Instead of completely shunning the challenges as the
other psychologists in the movie, Sean actually faced those statements and answered them
sincerely whilst accepting that he was not perfect. In other words, he showed Will it was okay
to be vulnerable to his emotions and to accept his imperfections. He was able to show Will that
he cared, as with many other patients who suffered abuse as a child, Will seemed to have blamed
himself for what happened until Sean gently, but firmly challenged Will to accept it. By the end of
the plot, Will was ready to start taking risks and learning to live life more

Class Or Socioeconomic Level Analysis
Class or socioeconomic level is typically defined as social sets, where each particular group share
similar or the same resources, in terms of economical, property, and status (Phillips, 2012).
Therefore, it tends to be a rank in accordance to wealth, power, and income, meaning the more
you have of each of these the higher the class will be (Lyall, 2016). This idea of class or
socioeconomic level has a huge impact on children in the New Zealand educationsector, as many
policies indirectly effecting education typically advantages the middle classfamilies (Thrupp, 2007).
Class effects not only the access to resources, but also the health of the students, and the zoning that
they are included in. All these factors, as well as many more, have... Show more content on

Class plays a major contributor to the standard of health children bring into the education sector,
those from working class families tend to have a lower standard of health than those in middle
class families (Brooks Gunn Duncan, 1997). This is due to a number of reasons, all resulting
back to the limited access working class families have to needed amenities. Working class are
likely to have a limited access to healthy foods, as these foods are typically more expensive
(Stephens, Markus, Fryberg, 2012). Therefore, these families receive little nutritional food,
which leads to a large amount of diseases and unhealthy habits. Housing also impacts on the
health of children which influences on the education sector. This is because working class tends
to only have access to a lower quality of housing, these may be houses that are potentially damp,
and cold (Childrens Commissioner, 2010). This leads to an unhealthy environment, which causes
the children and families to be unwell, therefore lowering their standard of health. Working class
also have less access to services such as health care and services (Childrens Commissioner, 2010).
Therefore, they are less likely to rebound as quickly from illness, as those in middle class would,
with a large access to healthcare. These issues have a significant effect on the health of the children,
and therefore on the education sector, as it leads

The Law Of Nature In Mere Christianity Of C. S. Lewis
At this moment, the human civilization is falling apart. The shield that guards the safety of men
is broken by wars and conflicts. The hearts of people are injured severely by hatred, inequality,
and discrimination. Countries lump into anarchy as laws and orders fall apart. And day by day,
promises have been broken so frequently that it becomes a norm, and the meanings of words fall
into ashes as people progress on deception. The world is gradually transforming itself into a pure
arena, where people disguise as hounds and serpents simultaneously. However, amidst this chaos,
there stands supreme thing keeping the pieces of mankind s civilization together the Law of
Nature. The Law of Nature is discussed greatly in the book Mere Christianity of C. S. Lewis, who
asserts that it is the Law of Nature which makes humans obligated to do the right thing. According
to Lewis, this law can also be referred as The Real Moralityor the Standard to which all people
follow, and which people use to evaluate their and others behaviors. The Law of Nature tells the
people which circumstance is appropriate to execute certain actions, and which situation is not
suitable for certain behavior. For instance, in every human, there is a warrior trait, which is said to
be necessary by the Law of Nature in order to protect oneself against life threatening beings, but to
be wrong when it is used to injure the innocent people. However, the Law of Nature functions
beyond the machinery of evaluating

Similarities Between William Bradford And Captain John Smith
The Founding Writers Captain John Smith and Governor William Bradford were two very
important men in the New World. In the early 1600s, the men both wrote of the many experiences
they endured in early America. The two scholars did not have much in common except for that fact.
The two had different occupations, felt otherwise about the Native Americans, and had distinctive
writingstyles. However, the two men were to become two of the United Statesfounding writers.
Captain John Smith was a very important person in Jamestown. Cooper wrote, Captain John Smith
played a pivotal role in establishing Jamestown as a member of the governing council and in
providing food for the settlers by trading with the Native Americans (Cooper 2). This quote... Show

He arrived at Plymouth from the Mayflower. While on the Mayflower he signed the Mayflower
Compact. This was one of the first steps into his leadership of the Pilgrim people. William
Bradford was the Plymouth Governor for almost thirty years. He was very important in leading
the Pilgrim people and helping them to survive that harsh first winter. The Pilgrims left their
homeland in search of religious freedom. Bradford believed that he and his people were chosen
by God to complete the mission of reformation. Daly writes, He begins his narrative, not with the
Pilgrims themselves, but with the previous history of reformation. Only after he has established
salvation history as the context for the Plymouth migration does he describe the people God has
chosen to live the last chapter of His reformation of the earthly church. Confident of God s
assistance, they rested on His providence an found earthly rewards for their keeping of covenant,
for though they were sometimes foiled, yet by God s assistance they prevailed and got the
victory (Daly 560). Daly is describing how William Bradford put his faith in God for their
survival. He believed God sent them on a special mission, and that God would see them through
all of the hard times. This is one of the reasons that William Bradford was such a powerful leader.
The Pilgrims put God above all, and because William Bradford made it known that he did too, they
followed him and trusted him. Without William Bradford s leadership the Pilgrims would have
been lost. The winter would have been even harsher, and many more would have

Bruce Springsteen s Almost Dreamlike Song Nebraska
In Bruce Springsteen s almost dreamlike song Nebraska he sings about Charles Starkweather
and his girlfriend Carol Fugate. A young couple that went on a killing spree over eight days in
Nebraska in the 1950s, killing ten people. The song is short and intimate despite it being a first
person narrative of a serial killer. Springsteen writes, They wanted to know why I did what I did
Well, sir, I guess there s just a meanness in this world. as the last words of the song. This ending
coupled with the historical background expresses a few themes that I believe Springsteen wanted to
convey. The first being that people always seem to search for meaning in things, that sometimes
have no meaning at all. Secondly, that isolation and loneliness can be a hard thing to cope with, and
it is something that I have had to experience and learn throughout my life.... Show more content on

The feeling of loneliness can be like a trap, the more you fall in, the more challenging it can be
to get out. I first felt how isolating it can be as a little kid. My family picked up and moved to
the Caribbean when I was in the second grade for my father s work. Leaving all my friends
behind was just the start. I felt trapped by my lack of ability to communicate with the people
around me, and unable to relate to a culture that was so different from my own. I was only in the
second grade so over time though the feeling faded. Luckily I learned to connect and make
friends, but that memory has always stuck with me. That frustration with my inability to connect
with others. There is significance to me in being able to remember something so clearly from so
long ago. When some memories fade far too quickly. I presume Springsteen and many others can
relate to how I felt, and maybe Charles Starkweather did as

Regulatory Environment
The Legal and Regulatory Environment When we look at the history of government involvement in
safety regulation, we first must realize that there is a need for such involvement. A perfect way to
put this is, Government has a responsibility to protect individuals from unhealthy environments,
whether the sources of health risks are natural or created by people or organizations (Frieden,
2013). Long before the Wright Brothers made history at Kitty Hawk, man has found themselves
having to fight for a safe workplace. Safety and health standards for employees were for many years
an afterthought, far behind increasing the profit margin. Only when unions and workers had had
enough, did the tides turn toward safer conditions. The old adage that... Show more content on

This act came to be known as the Health and Morals of Apprentices Act of 1802 (1959). This act
set in place the first factory inspection system and the standards to govern it. Safety regulations
were set in place limiting number of hours worked, cleanliness standard of all facilities,
equipment safety standards, and the issue of adequate clothing was in place by the 1870 s. Even
with a model to follow the United States was nearly 70 years behind in the race to safer
workplaces. The earliest government involvement in the regulation and setting of safety standards
is recorded in the state of Massachusetts. It was 1869 and the labor unions and public outcry led
to the formation of the Bureau of Statistics and Labor. This agency became the pioneer and
trendsetter for all other state Bureau s (2013). They published their first report in 1870 describing
the deplorable conditions of children working in factories and mills. An early practice of mailing
questionnaires to employers, and following up with site visits was common practice until 1882.
Finally in 1882 the laborers side of the story was brought into account. Early on in the process the
effect on factory work and its long hours, poor ventilation, unhealthy condition on young women
was of great concern. Multiple report findings linked severe illness, and even prostitution to these
dastardly conditions. The first annual

The Attendant Members Of Justin s Rugby Team
Following the presentation of the key, the attendant members of Justin s rugby team performed
Ka Mate, the Haka, or dance, made famous by the New Zealand All Blacks. The young men from
his rugby club arranged themselves into a semi circle two rows deep of about eight per row, and
behind them a further twenty or so male and female, family members and friends. Haka is a term
which refers to dancing and chanting as either a celebration or war dance or both. Men traditionally
performed the haka with feet, hands, legs, voice, eyes and tongue. Women would accompany the
men with their voices and some body movements with hand trills that mesmerize, eyes that
protrude, and head tilted to the side. In contemporary haka women can be seen performing... Show

ne! ka upa ... ne!One upward step! Another upward step! A upane kaupane whiti te ra!An upward
step, another. The Sun shines!!! (maori.org.nz/waiata) A traditional Maori hangi provided the
meal for the celebration. The hangi uses steam to slowly cook the food. A pit large enough to
accommodate the wire baskets which held the food was dug in the ground and firewood was
heaped up next to the pit. Stones were placed within the heap. The fire was then set and the
burning wood took about three hours to heat the stones. When the stones where white hot they
were transferred to the bottom of the pit and a damp sack was laid on the rocks and the wire
baskets were placed on top of the damp sack. More sacks were put on top of the baskets and the
whole lot was quickly covered in soil to prevent the stones cooling. The food baskets were
prepared with individual meal portions wrapped in foil. Chicken, lamb, pork and beef were the
meat options with vegetables included kumara, potato, pumpkin, cabbage and fresh salads. A
dessert of steam pudding was also cooked in the hangi. After three and a half hours the hangi was
uncovered and served. The men were primarily responsible for the cooking of the hangi itself
while the women prepared the food. A short prayer thanking the creator for the abundance of food

Symbols In The Legend Of Zelda
Legend of Zelda Tattoos Gaming Has Never Looked This Good! Legend of Zelda is arguably
one of the most popular and successful video games of all times. The first version of this game
was released in the 1980 s and has attracted an army of fans. The game and its story have evolved
over time but the main characters and the feeling has always remained the same. And if you are
a die hard Legend of Zelda fan surely you can t be without a Legend of Zelda tattoo? The object
of the game is pretty much the same in all the variations and versions of the game. They player is

This is one of the most requested Legend of Zelda Tattoos. It consists of three triangles which
form one large triangle. It represents power, courage and wisdom. In the game this symbol is
gold so some fans color their tattoos yellow while others prefer bold black. Eye of Truth Another
popular symbol that Zelda fans love to use for a tattoo is the Eye of Truth. This is designed as a
simple eye with three triangles above it and a long teardrop underneath. In solid black, this
makes a bold and interesting tattoo. Hearts / Crystal hearts In the game heart containers (or
Bowl of Hearts) are items to collect that increase Link s health (symbolized by a life bar). Rows
of hearts or crystal hearts are popular for tattoos, especially among female Zelda fans. They are
often seen in an 8 bit design (see techniques below). Meaning Most clients who get a Zelda tattoo
do so to pay respect to their favorite game and identify themselves as fans. The messages of
courage and power within the game resonate strongly with many people. Often they have played
the game for most of their lives and the tattoo that they choose will have specific meaning to

Sweatshops Thesis Statement
Thesis statement: Sweatshops, when left to operate without government intervention, are the most
efficient way of out poverty.
Introductory rationale: When it comes to social justice issues, most people believe the government
needs to solve the problem. Social justice in sweatshops is no exception. In my research, I have
found that what people see as the cause of injustice in developing countries, sweatshops, are
actually what is responsible for lifting people up out of poverty. As a result, any sort of government
regulation will fail to solve the problem. The audience I am writing for is a diverse group of peers
who are concerned with social justice though they may have different solutions and beliefs about
the topic. My goal in this draft is to expand their knowledge and show them the benefits of not
interfering with the free market.
I. Claim 1: Sweatshops increase the standards of living for the workers and their communities
1. Evidence:
1) Where Sweatshops Are a Dream is a short article in favor of sweatshops. The author talks about
how the living standards rose due to sweatshops when he was a kid (Kristof). This article has a
personal story from the author about improving conditions. This makes for a good pathos argument.
2) In the interview with the Mises Institute called, Sweatshops: A Way Out of Poverty, Powell
talks about how living standards rise in areas with sweatshops as well as how sweatshops actually
pay well in comparison to other jobs (Powell,

  • 2. The Cia And Central Intelligence Agency The CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) in the United States has been involved in several operations with drug trafficking. Some of these reports claim that the evidence of the Congress indicates that the CIA worked with groups that were known to be involved in drug trafficking. The deals mainly include providing the CIA with useful information and support material, in exchange for allowing their criminal activities to continue, and impede or prevent the arrest, prosecution and imprisonment from United Stateslaw enforcement agencies. This war on drugs was used as an easy way to increase repression in inner cities and confiscate millions of dollars in private assets through unconstitutional forfeiture laws. These assets were used to fund police burgeoning, and as an active participant in the illegal drug trade, public resources were used to bring heroinand cocaine into American inner cities since the 1960 s. The most controversial public episode was when the report of the Kerry Committee came to the conclusion that the members of the Department of State of the United States of America those who had provided support for the contras, were involved in drug trafficking [ ... ] and the own elements of the contras, were received with his consent financial and material assistance from drug traffickers . • 3. Looking Out for Number One T.H. Breen Bri Swartley An Analysis of Looking Out for Number One: Conflicting Cultural Values in Early Seventeenth Century Virginia by: T.H. Breen I believe what Breen is trying to say in his essay is that the Englishmen that came to Virginia were very different from the settlers of other colonies and they had a much different society develop than what was typical in the other colonies. They were a highly individualistic society. Breen believes that the personalities of those who came to Virginia were, in part what caused Virginia s society to become so individualistic. Being so individualistic didn t exactly work out so well for the structure of society or the well being of the colonists. Breen says that the first people to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Virginia had a slave population of 187,600 in 1770 (135). This number is more than double that of any other colony at the time. 4. I do agree with Breen s point of view and for the most part it agrees with our text. I would probably be more likely to agree with Breen that the people of Virginia did not form a military band and fight back against the Indians especially how the text talks about Indians remaining a strong presence. It wouldn t make much sense for the Indians to remain a strong presence if they are constantly being attacked by the settlers. I think the reason that the Indians stayed around is because Virginia was not effectively fighting them off because they didn t have any type of formalized military, or formalized anything for that matter, not even schools. 5. Slavery in New York City, 1731 ALAW For Regulating Negroes and Slaves in the Night Time I don t think that this document had too much to do with Breen s essay Looking Out For Number One but rather it comes slightly later. I do think that the drastic rise in slave labor shows how Virginia was willing to exploit people in order to turn a profit and how it would be necessary for them to enact laws regulating the liberties of slaves to keep them from rising up when the population ... King Henry VIII gained legitimacy through the Elitist Theory and the power from his father, he gained power the Coercion Theory and the killing of his wives, and he retained authority through the Machiavellian Theory and becoming Protestant. King Henry VIII used the power from his father successfully which led him to gaining legitimacy. Henry also took advantage of the killing of his wives in order to show power. Finally, King Henry VIII became Protestant in order to retain authority. The first step in his journey to retain authority was to gain legitimacy. And among these forces Machiavelli was one. In history, then, as opposed to history play, Machiavelli s influence may have been more direct; but, in any event, Machiavellianism is a valid and serviceable term for describing the harsher political ambience of Henry VIII, especially as it applies, in turn, to Buckingham, Wolsey, and Henry (McBride 1977). King Henry created the Church of England just to get an annulment with one of his wives because the Pope of the Catholic Church would not do it again, so he became his own pope.Henry also became Protestant for the same reason. King Henry kept getting married for only two reasons, getting a son and gaining a coalition. He went against the Church for his own self interest... to get an annulment with his wife to just get a new wife whom he would probably just kill or divorce. Also, King Henry VIII created the Act of Supremacy to gain authority in which took authority from the Pope of the Church of England, and also made him Supreme Head of the Church of England. This effectively stripped all of the authority the Pope held in England and gave it to Henry VIII. Also because of the Act of Supremacy Henry VIII gained a new title: Supreme Head of the Church of England (Gillaspie 2008). King Henry used the acts, methods, and theories to retain his ... The film is about a tax attorney named Peter, played by Martin, who stumbles into an online lawyer chat room and meets Charlene, played by Latifah. The two chat frequently, mostly about court cases, and eventually decide to meet in person. When the day finally comes, Peter is greeted at the door with who he thought would be a middle aged Caucasian woman, but happened to be Charlene, a black woman who just escaped from prison. In attempt to do so, he uses Sarah s language that he believes she would be more inclined to listen to. The father s usage of the modern hip hop language is an example of generational conflict. Implied by other clips in the movie, we conclude the father s environment as an attorney requires him to use a more conservative language that has been more or less designated to his generation. This contrasts with the daughters modern and hip hop language that incorporates many slang terminologies, non standard English sentences and phrases, and a very relaxed tone. Although we see the father is able to put a couple sentences together, everything from his tone and range clearly show his inexperience to the speech. An example to showcase his failure is when he attempts to say an he try da get al up in dat. The father used the same expression but with different pronunciation. Peter says and he tried to get all up in that, which is clearly too formal for this speech and loses the flavor of what makes the language so authentic to the hip hop generation. Peter and Sarah both speak standard English, but this is another example of how it can vary. Even though the two are family and from the same class, their generation gap influences the variation of English they speak. The United States General Election Essay While the 2016 United States general election has been in itself special with regards to the deep division among the electorate and lack of favorability of the two frontrunners for the presidency, it still has the unique American system of being dominated by two major political parties; Republicans and Democrats. Over time these political parties have experienced massive changes but in modern America they have crafted very unique identities. With regards to social issues such as abortion rights and treatment of minority groups and economic issues such as fiscal spending, income taxes and welfare, Republicans in general have been characterized as mainly conservative, tax averse and against government entitlements while Democrats have been generally characterized as mainly liberal on these same issues. Altogether political affiliations to either the right or the left can be categorized based on their preference for stability. Liberals are generally seen as being more adaptable to a changing environment for example in the case for LGBTQ rights where the changing environment has generally led them to be more acceptable while conservatives are more likely to be less open, sticking to what they consider traditional values. These attributes have for a long time been seen to be largely determined by the political atmosphere in an individuals environment but growing research has shown that these characteristics have a significant association with human genetics. Effects Of World War II On The World History 465 7760 Final Exam Christy Brown May 2, 2015 Prompt 6: Although the war ended in 1945, the effects of World War II are widespread throughout the 20th century and into the 21st. International relations, technological development, economic growth and failure, social upheaval, and many other areas of life were influenced by the war. Explain how World War II influenced the world since 1945. Many changes have occurred in the world today as a result of World War II. Many of those changes include economic growth and failure in various countries, improved or strained international relations between countries, and probably most importantly, vast technological advances in several countries. Many of the differences between post World War II and pre World War II are not immediately visible to the untrained observer, especially in the area of technological advances. It is safe to say, however, that the world would not be what it is today had World War II not brought about the vast changes that it did. As we discussed in class, post war really started in the middle of the war, during 1942, where various optimistic countries started to make plans for after they won the war. On the first of January, 1942, the Allies got together and signed the Declaration by United Nations, which basically outlined the war aims of the Allied Powers. • 16. Sexual Imagery In Sexual Advertising The idea of using sexual imagery to boost products sales and company revenue is defiantly not a new one. Tom Reichert from the University of Alabama wrote in his article A review of Content, Effects, and Functions of Sexual Information in Consumer Advertising that as early as 1885 W. Duke Sons placed trading cards in cigarette packs that had sexually provocative ladies on them to try and boost sales. The company seemed to be successful with the promotion and by 1890 they were one of the leading brands of cigarettes. Another early example was found in 1910. A women s beauty bar company; Woodbury s Facial Soap was struggling with sales until they started using advertisingthat showed couples in a romantic embrace. Reichert notes in contemporary mainstream consumer advertising (e.g., magazines, network and cable television), sex is present in promotional messages for a wide range of branded goods (Reichert, 2002 pg. 242). Reichert then goes on to say ads feature provocative images of well defined women (and men) in revealing outfits and postures selling clothing, alcohol, beauty products, and fragrances. Advertisers such as Calvin Klein, Victoria s Secret, and Pepsi use these images to cultivate a ubiquitous sex tinged media presence (Reichert,2002 pg. 242). The Relation between Pearl and Nature in The Scarlet Letter In Nathaniel Hawthorne s work, The Scarlet Letter, nature plays a very symbolic role. Throughout the book, nature is incorporated into the story line. One example of this is with the character of Pearl. Pearl is very different than all the other characters due to her special relationship with Nature. Hawthorne personifies Nature as sympathetic towards sins against the puritan way of life. Hester s sin causes Nature to accept Pearl. First it is necessary to examine how nature is identified with sin against the Puritan way of life. The first example of this is found in the first chapter regarding the rosebush at the prison door. This rosebush is located on one side ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This rosebush symbolizes the sympathy of Nature towards the very people Puritan society has condemned. The idea illustrated by the rosebush can therefore be applied to the specific character of Pearl. Because Pearl was expelled from Puritan society Nature sympathizes with her. Nature s sympathy and partiality with Pearl can be seen with the sunshine in the forest. Pearl attempts to catch the sunshine and according to Hawthorn Pearl . . . did actually catch the sunshine . . . The light lingered about the lonely child, as if glad of such a playmate . . . (146). Hawthorn describes another sign of acceptance as the great black forest . . . became the playmate of the lonely infant (163). Hawthorne eventually declares that The truth seems to be . . . that the mother forest, and these wild things which it nourished, all recognized a kindred wildness in the human child (163). All natural things and Nature accept this little girl who has been thrust out of Puritan society. A way to strengthen this point is to show Nature s reaction to Hester. The strange thing is that the sunshine runs from Hester even though it was her sin against the Puritan laws that produced Pearl who is accepted by the sunshine or Nature. In fact [the sunshine] runs away and hides itself, because it is afraid of something on [Hester s] bosom (146), the Scarlet Letter, which represents Hester s acceptance of Puritan law and ... Using the same route leads to greater efficiency and builds better relationship with dealers. • 22. Cultural Differences Between The Nisei And The Issei In 1869, the first Japanese Immigrants arrived in California in an attempt to escape the Meiji restoration, which forced them out of their houses. Many joined them in America after that, forming the first generation of Japanese Americans, the Issei. Those immigrants then formed families and gave birth to the second generation, the Nisei. However, the cultural differences between the Issei and the Nisei, who were all born in America, created an important gap between the two generations. The short story Seventeen Syllables , through the relation between Rosie, a Nisei young girl, and Tome Hayashi, her mother, is a good depiction of this issue. First of all, the lack of a common language between the Nisei and the Issei was the main problem in their relations. Most the Nisei went to American schools where they learned everything in English. The Issei, for their part, had learned Japanese as their first language. In Seventeen Syllables , Rosie only has little knowledge in Japanese. Here, the author describes a bit more her level in that language: It was about cats, and Rosie pretended to understand it thoroughly and appreciate it no end, partly because she hesitated to disillusion her mother about the quantity and quality of Japanese she had learned in all the years now that she had been going to Japanese school every Saturday (and Wednesday, too, in the summer). According to Theodor Elze (1889) the island in The Tempest is Pantalaria, whose natural sights correspond with the descriptions in the play, and its nearby town of African coast Calibia, served as an inspiration to Shakespeare. Another explanation for the name Caliban is kalebon, an Arabic word for vile dog , common reference for North African creature in England at that period. Dutch scholar Albert Kluyver, would eliminate the cannibal, as it did not exist in English language with the same meaning as in Shakespeare`s time, instead he believes it to mean black in gypsy language. It is very probable that Shakespeare addressed African slaves, since Prospero himself in the play, observes Caliban as filth , something inhuman. (Vaughan and Vaughan). The relationship between Prospero and Caliban could be Shakespeare`s way of describing the treatment of African slaves by European feudalists. This marvellous literature piece is a testimony of slavery and its roots. Even more, few years after Shakespeare died, the biggest export of African slaves took place and racism was imprinted in people`s subconscious. • 26. Life Cycle Assessment ( Lca ) 1.Introduction Background The built environment as a whole is said to contribute about half the greenhouse gas emissions in the world (UNEF 2007). Specifically, considering the less studied area of construction emissions, research shows that this component accounts for as much as 11.7% of emissions inclusive of direct and indirect emissions (Acquaye Duffy 2010). As such it has significant impact on the environment and represents a major opportunity to study potential reductions. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is one of the techniques that is used in order to quantify and improve the sustainability of buildings with respect to the efficiency of energy utilized in that building. The energy emissions can be subdivided into embodied energy and operating energy based on the energy required in the construction, operation, maintenance or demolition of buildings (Ramesh, Prakash Shukla 2010). Most of the emphasis in this research area has been given to the operating energy of the buildings, although there has been some research that has been carried out on the energy emissions due to physical waste arising from the renovation or demolition of the buildings (Blengini 2009; Coelho de Brito 2012). For example, NABERS is an energy monitoring program that is being used in Australia to quantify operating energy. One of the most significant movements which owes at least the majority of its beginnings to the Enlightenment is the architectural and artistic movement of Neoclassicism. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pettiness of these movements had created a backlash and these thinkers and art critics welcomed the harsher and more ordered Neoclassical style as they began to swing the art pendulum in the opposite direction. One of the primary causes in the rise of Neoclassicism in the mid eighteenth century was the expansion of what was previously called a classical education. By 1750 Italian tourism was already a full blown industry, with guides and guidebooks circulating throughout Europe. As a part of any young man s education, he now had to make the artistic tour of Italy, especially Florence, Rome, and Naples. This was not just a quick visit to a couple museums; rather, it was a lengthy, often times more than a year, and in depth study of the rich trove of art that these cities had to offer. It was supplemented with classes and lectures at the museums and time taken after these to sketch or paint these precious works to take home. The proliferation of these sketches would compound and any aspiring artist was also then required to study these works. The increased influence and awareness of Greek and Roman art in the studies of the developing artists would soon begin to show in their designs. One of the most significant reasons that a renewed interest in Italy has arisen was the recently found sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The excavation of these sites revealed massive amounts ... The Treaty of Versailles Resulted in Another Huge War The treaty of Versailles, written in Paris Peace Conference by four allied nations, contributed to the culmination of World War I between Germany and those four nations, which were United States, France, Great Britain and Italy. Even though the purpose of the treaty was to prevent further conflict and war, it, in fact, failed to treat all nations justifiably, including the losers of the war (Germany), because it mandated Germany to solely compensate for the loss and damages caused by the war. The restrictions treated Germany like a colony and eventually led to the decrease of German military forces, financial bankruptcy caused by excessive reparation and the rise of Nazis which triggered World War II. First of all, according to the section five of Article 159 213 of the treaty, Germany was limited to carry or maintain certain number of troops which led to significant decrease in total military forces. The treaty forced Germany to keep navy, army and air force as small as possible (1). Additionally, the number of army was diminished to 100,000 troops with no armored vehicles and they were limited to six battleships, six light cruisers, twelve destroyers, twelve torpedo and no submarines (1). The pain is so unbearable to an individual that the only way to relieve it is suicide. Baumeister s escape theory of suicide believes certain steps promotes suicide, 1) individuals perception of expectations and actual events are more negative, 2) an aversive self awareness develops, (individual focuses on negative aspects of them self and become depressed) 3) in an attempt to escape the effects from the first two steps an individual goes into a state of cognitive deconstruction (.Baumeister, 1990) This reduces inhibition which leads to a lack of impulse control. • 39. Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, And Nat King... Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, and Nat King Cole. These men all lived vastly different lives, but one exploit that they will always hold in common is that they helped to develop jazz into the integral part of music it exists as today. Jazz created a form of expression that allowed an entire generation to show what they valued and what they represented in life, which is exactly what the men I mentioned earlier did. Accordingly, they did not just make catchy tunes for dancing to and melancholy songs for crying to, they wove narratives that described their hope, dreams, and struggles. Moreover, this expression is why jazz almost synonymous represents the development of African American culture in the late 19th and early 20th century. The genre provided an opportunity for blacks to break free of the poverty and racism that still attempted to shackle the entire raceand it also provided a foundation several major African American cultural movements including the Civil Rights Movement and Harlem Renaissance. Consequently, jazz remains one of the most influential parts of African American culture today. It not only helped blacks show pride in and develop their culture, but it also allowed an ordinarily overlooked raceto display its struggles to the world and blur the barrier between white and black. To truly understand why music, and jazz, remain such a monumental part of African American culture, it is important to look at the whole picture that America presents ... Examples Of Ethics In Good Will Hunting Abstract: The movie Good Will Hunting (1997) by Gus Van Sant depicted an intelligent man, Will Hunting, with issues fitting in society and maintaining relationship connections and the therapists who successfully changed Will s outlook at the world . However, it wasn t without certain technical flaws and possible crossing of certain code of ethics. This paper raises the issue of the potential erroneous counseling depiction in movies and certain ethical principles that may have been violated in such depiction, discusses connection problems of the main character, Will Hunting, and possible reasons why one particular therapist was able to assist him with his problems whereas other counselors have failed, as well as a reflection based on the author s own opinion. Class Or Socioeconomic Level Analysis Class or socioeconomic level is typically defined as social sets, where each particular group share similar or the same resources, in terms of economical, property, and status (Phillips, 2012). Therefore, it tends to be a rank in accordance to wealth, power, and income, meaning the more you have of each of these the higher the class will be (Lyall, 2016). This idea of class or socioeconomic level has a huge impact on children in the New Zealand educationsector, as many policies indirectly effecting education typically advantages the middle classfamilies (Thrupp, 2007). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Class plays a major contributor to the standard of health children bring into the education sector, those from working class families tend to have a lower standard of health than those in middle class families (Brooks Gunn Duncan, 1997). This is due to a number of reasons, all resulting back to the limited access working class families have to needed amenities. Working class are likely to have a limited access to healthy foods, as these foods are typically more expensive (Stephens, Markus, Fryberg, 2012). Therefore, these families receive little nutritional food, which leads to a large amount of diseases and unhealthy habits. This is because working class tends to only have access to a lower quality of housing, these may be houses that are potentially damp, and cold (Childrens Commissioner, 2010). • 43. The Law Of Nature In Mere Christianity Of C. S. Lewis At this moment, the human civilization is falling apart. The shield that guards the safety of men is broken by wars and conflicts. The hearts of people are injured severely by hatred, inequality, and discrimination. Countries lump into anarchy as laws and orders fall apart. And day by day, promises have been broken so frequently that it becomes a norm, and the meanings of words fall into ashes as people progress on deception. The world is gradually transforming itself into a pure arena, where people disguise as hounds and serpents simultaneously. However, amidst this chaos, there stands supreme thing keeping the pieces of mankind s civilization together the Law of Nature. The Law of Nature is discussed greatly in the book Mere Christianity of C. S. Lewis, who asserts that it is the Law of Nature which makes humans obligated to do the right thing. According to Lewis, this law can also be referred as The Real Moralityor the Standard to which all people follow, and which people use to evaluate their and others behaviors. The Law of Nature tells the people which circumstance is appropriate to execute certain actions, and which situation is not suitable for certain behavior. For instance, in every human, there is a warrior trait, which is said to be necessary by the Law of Nature in order to protect oneself against life threatening beings, but to be wrong when it is used to injure the innocent people. He was very important in leading the Pilgrim people and helping them to survive that harsh first winter. The Pilgrims left their homeland in search of religious freedom. Bradford believed that he and his people were chosen by God to complete the mission of reformation. Daly writes, He begins his narrative, not with the Pilgrims themselves, but with the previous history of reformation. Only after he has established salvation history as the context for the Plymouth migration does he describe the people God has chosen to live the last chapter of His reformation of the earthly church. Confident of God s assistance, they rested on His providence an found earthly rewards for their keeping of covenant, for though they were sometimes foiled, yet by God s assistance they prevailed and got the victory (Daly 560). Daly is describing how William Bradford put his faith in God for their survival. He believed God sent them on a special mission, and that God would see them through all of the hard times. This is one of the reasons that William Bradford was such a powerful leader. Regulatory Environment The Legal and Regulatory Environment When we look at the history of government involvement in safety regulation, we first must realize that there is a need for such involvement. A perfect way to put this is, Government has a responsibility to protect individuals from unhealthy environments, whether the sources of health risks are natural or created by people or organizations (Frieden, 2013). Long before the Wright Brothers made history at Kitty Hawk, man has found themselves having to fight for a safe workplace. Even with a model to follow the United States was nearly 70 years behind in the race to safer workplaces. The earliest government involvement in the regulation and setting of safety standards is recorded in the state of Massachusetts. It was 1869 and the labor unions and public outcry led to the formation of the Bureau of Statistics and Labor. This agency became the pioneer and trendsetter for all other state Bureau s (2013). They published their first report in 1870 describing the deplorable conditions of children working in factories and mills. An early practice of mailing questionnaires to employers, and following up with site visits was common practice until 1882. Finally in 1882 the laborers side of the story was brought into account. Introductory rationale: When it comes to social justice issues, most people believe the government needs to solve the problem. Social justice in sweatshops is no exception. In my research, I have found that what people see as the cause of injustice in developing countries, sweatshops, are actually what is responsible for lifting people up out of poverty. As a result, any sort of government regulation will fail to solve the problem. The audience I am writing for is a diverse group of peers who are concerned with social justice though they may have different solutions and beliefs about the topic. My goal in this draft is to expand their knowledge and show them the benefits of not interfering with the free market. I.
