Amedisys Group Structure
Amedisys is known for being a frontrunner agency. Amedisys is divided up into two departments,
home health and hospice (Amedisys , 2014). The department of the agency that I am working with
is Amedisys hospice. Amedisys is a bureaucratic company on many different levels. A Bureaucratic
agency can be defined as, management or administration marked by hierarchical authority among
numerous offices and by fixed procedures (American Heritage Dictionary of the English
Language, 2011). There is a formal structure in the company and in each department. There are
rules and expectations set for each department. There are strict policies for what each worker can
do. Policies are not only set for workers, but for the patients too. Amedisys has certain... Show more

Everyone in the office has known set guideline of what their daily tasks that they are to
complete. I think this is attributed to such the calm mood in the office. There are times that
things can get hectic and, usually during our morning meetings, but after that the mood dissolve
and disappear. There is a front desk as you walk in the front door, since I have started at the
agency there is no one there. For the most part there is no need for a receptionist. None of our
clients physically come into our offices. We go to them, in the comfort of their home. This is
because our clients are our clients because of terminal or chronically ill patients. We are there to
provide a comfortable life. With there being so many workers in and out of the office, whoever
is working from the office, becomes the receptionist. I m defining the Receptionist role as
answering the phone. Our phones ring constantly. When our patients have questions, are
concerns, it is the quickest way to get a hold of us. While each of the workers who visit the
patients has a cell the office is also another way of contacting us. It is fundamentally important
that our patients and patient s families can always get in contact with us. We as a company are
literally a phone call away and when patients need us, we are there as soon as possible.
Communication in the office is completed in several different ways. There are emails, face to face
contact, and phone

Us Involvement In Vietnam
French involvement in Indochina ended after Viet Minh forces won the Battle of Dien Bien Phu
on May 7th 1954. The victory of Dien Bien Phu led to the Geneva Conference in which the Viet
Minh and French negotiated a ceasefire agreement. Vietnam was temporarily divided at the 17th
parallel due to the terms of the Geneva Accord. During a 300 days period, citizens were able to
move freely between two states. In 1956, two years after the battle of Dien Bien Phu, elections
were to be held to establish a unified government in Vietnam. The accords of the Geneva Conference
were not pleasing to the United Statesgovernment, who feared that the elections would be unfair
and manipulated under the Communist influence. The United States government feared... Show

The Vietnam war had far reaching effects on the United States, other than the vast amount of
casualties suffered, which was a total of 211,454 casualties throughout the war. Firstly, Congress
replaced its military draft with an all volunteer force as well as reducing the voting age to 18.
Congress was also inspired to restrict the president s ability to send American forces into combat
without their explicit approval with the War Powers Act. President Johnson was unwilling to
raise the taxes during the war, which resulted in a cycle of inflation and a devastated economy in
his wake. U.S. military morale was weakened by the war and the U.S. commitment to
internationalism was severely undermined as well. In addition to this the war the Democratic
Party was deeply split due to the prosecution of the war, many of the former supporters viewed
the party as being overrun by its anti war faction. Liberal reform was undermined and many
Americans became suspicious of the government. Decades after the war had ended people were
still divided over the meaning of the conflict. A Gallup Poll found that 53 percent of those
surveyed believe that the war was a well intentioned mistake, while 43 percent believe it was
fundamentally wrong and immoral ( Digital

The Great Recession From 2007-2009
The market is a very fluid situation and this is becoming more and more apparent in the past ten
years with the Great Recession from 2007 2009. Therefore, businesses are operating in an
economy where the competition is high and the potential for failure has become significant. Those
two aspects have been and should be on the forefront of every organizations mind. Companies
should have a strong focus on examining and evaluating not only their financial standings, but the
other competitors in their market in order to boost sales and continue on the path to maturity. If a
company is successful in reaching this goal they will have the ability to hold the competitive edge
on their rivals. Major organizations such as Home Depot and Lowes are placing more focus on
increasing that edge, while contending with others in their pool, overall to increase, gain, and retain
a piece of the devoted consumer. In order to understand and conduct a complete financial analysis
of either organization, or any company for that matter, that desires to increase aspects of business,
an analysis becomes fundamental when defining the company s current standings in the market.
This can also be a great way in order to discover new ways for expansion of productivity and
development within the organization. Throughout the execution of a financial analysis of any
business, it is imperative to understand the background of the company and the products they
produce and sell. By understanding these

My Personal Experience with Pregnancy Discrimination Essay
Pregnancy discrimination in the work place is alive and well in the 21st Century. There has been an
increase in the need for laws protecting the rights of pregnant women. Due to disparate treatment of
pregnant women, laws have been established to protect their employment rights. Although laws are
in place to prevent such discrimination, it has not eliminated the problem of employers
discriminating against pregnant women.
What is Pregnancy Discrimination?
Discrimination on the basis of pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions constitutes
unlawful sex discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Actof 1964

Historical Background
At the turn of the century, there were absolutely no workplace laws. They were prohibited because
the Supreme Court ruled that the government should not be allowed to dictate to private
employers how their workplace should be run. The one exception the Courts allowed was the laws
that protected women. According to Patti Paniccia, author of Work Smarts for Women: The Court
allowed these laws because it believed that the government had a stake in the offspring that women
bore an interest in preserving the strength and vigor of the race. Concern for offspring has been a
traditional grounds for discrimination against women. It has prompted protectionist laws that
prevented pregnant women from earning a living. 2 In Jack Raisner s book, Pregnancy
Discrimination and Parental Leave Handbook , he indicates that the first ruling of discrimination
heard by the U.S. Supreme Court, Chief Justice Warren Burger, under Title VII of the Civil Rights
Act of 1964, signaled a hands off approach in dealing

Catfish And Mandala Analysis
In the book Catfish Mandala Andrew X. Pham illustrates many cultural aspects, including his
family experiences of many disappointments through sacrifice and loss. As a result of moving to
America, the family becomes disoriented. Due to the war in his country Pham s family was forced
to immigrate to a new country. Often families experience events in which they have to make
sacrifices, wishing future generations will benefit. His parents made the decision to move to
America for their children to have a better future. The family felt the loss of their cultural identity
by encountering a new one. Each member lost their identity and culturebecause they had to adapt to
a new world.
Pham states, I am a Vietnamese American man (10). This particular quote is an example of self
identity conflict. Pham feels disoriented about his identity. In many occasions, he feels trapped with
the question Where are you from ? because he feels American but people still do not accept him
under that category. For the whole family, it was a drastic change, escaping from the Vietnamwar
trying to find a better life. During the course of the years, each member of the family had a drastic
personality change. Each member adjusted to the American culture on the needs they felt were
necessary. Thong (Andrew s father) was extremely violent. He wanted his children to be very
disciplined. His actions were considered normal in Vietnam; however, in America Thong was
considered an abusive parent. He beats

Miley Cyrus s Influence On Society
What Miley Cyrus Really Stands For
In today s popular culture a big topic of discussion is pop singer, Miley Cyrus. She was a former
star on Disney Channel s Hannah Montana and now we have all seen her transformation from a
girl to a woman. To avoid fading away like many other celebrity teen stars as they aged, Miley
decided to reinvent herself as an adult musician by pushing the limits. Many people only see Miley
Cyrus for her unadulterated VMA Performances and her frowned upon behavior, which most
individuals don t care to get to know. There is another side of Miley that has made a huge impact
on society and has reached new levels in giving back to the community. Miley has dedicated herself
to feminism, improving society s image of women, leading the fight against LGBTQ
discrimination, charity work, and using social media to expose societal issues.
Most people don t know that Miley is feminist. She stands for up for women s equality and wants
everyone to feel accepted for who they are in this world no matter what their story has been along
the way. In an interview with BBC Radio 1 s Newsbeat Miley claims to be one of the biggest
feminists in the world. As Miley explains:
For me, it s not even that I m a feminist. I m for anybody. I m for everybody, for everything. I don
t care what you want to do in your life, or whom you want to be with, which you want to love,
who you want to look like. I m a feminist in the way that I m really empowering to women.

The Attitude Of The Poem My Last Duchess By Robert Browning
9th Grade English Essay: Discuss the attitude of the poet towards the duchess in My Last Duchess
by Robert Browning
In the middle ages , the main topic used in poems was a nobleman, usually a knight in love with
a married woman and had to prove his devotion by heroic deeds and amorous writings . They
used blazon to emphasis the beautiful bodies of the women in those days. However, there was a
radical change in the Victorian times where prostitution became such a big issue. The poems
became darker and less courtly. In the poem, My last duchess by Robert Browning there was no
traditional blazon such as complementing the duchess body. Yet, the speaker who is also the Duke
talks about the women s body as the main justification for her assassination. The duke talks about
her smile as the reason for his jealousy and possessive obecession.
Robert Browning uses various literary devices to provoke a feeling to the reader. By his choice of
devices, we are able to understand the feelings of the Duke towards the Duchess. The rhyme
scheme of this poem is organized in rhyming couplets (AABBCC) this is used to show the
relationship between him and the duchess (couplets) it may also be used to show is obecession
with controlling everything and having everything organized and planned. The lines are paired in
rhyming couplets, but these couplets are open which shows the Robert Browning uses various
literary devices to provoke a feeling to the reader. By his choice of devices, we are

Robinson Crusoe Book Analysis
In Daniel Defoe s Robinson Crusoe, it tells the story of young man from the city York. The
original name of Robinson was Kreutznar but was called Crusoe instead because so many
people would butcher his name. Robinson was the third son for his father and mother. The first
born son for Robinson s father was in the military as Lt. Col and was killed in action near the
famous battle at Dunkirk. The second son of the family was more or less a disappointment,
since neither Robinson or his parents knew what happened to him. With Robinson coming from
a family of decent wealth, it was now on to him to do well for himself. It seems from an early
age Robinson doesn t plan on going on the path his father wanted him to. In the book, Robinson
says not bred to any trade, my head began to be fill d very early with rambling thoughts (Defoe
5). With all the education that his father was providing him, he didn t have any interests in the
direction that his father was steering him to which was law. It seems Robinson wants to venture
on his own path and prove that he can be successful on his terms and not that of his father and
mother. Robinson wanted to be out in the sea, but his parents didn t want that for him and wouldn
t give him permission to leave. Until, one day a friend of his was leaving on a ship and a naГЇve
Robinson against his parents wishes followed his friend. The journey doesn t end up going well

Why Black People Commit Crime
Another question exists however. Why are Black individuals more likely to commit crime? This
can be confusing as to why this occurs. Both Black and white people who grow up in the same
society are capable and have the same opportunities, so why is it that black individuals have a
higher crime rate. We can figure this out by looking at examples of other first world countries and
data seems to show that major causes of crime are traced back to poverty, family conditions, and
drugs. The fact is even though many black families are living prosperous successful lives in north
America they still lag behind economic status with 35 % of African Americans living in poverty
compared to 13% of all Americans. Also 72% of black children are raised by a single

Quickly I dragged my bag out to Thalia s tree.
Hey isn t Thalia coming to? Jason asked he apparently got here before me.
Yup, she ll be here soon Piper said.
Ohh I m so excited to go to England! I said finally.
Me too, especially after everything we ve learned about wizards. Piper said.
Wait, how long have you guys known about wizards? Percy asked.
Uh, about a few weeks. I said.
One day both of us were visited by our godly parents, they told us about wizards, so we did a

The title of the book was A Wanderful Journey by Garrick Ollivander. She then opened up the

What kind of wand did you get? Thalia asked.
Elm, around ten and three quarters inches, with an owl feather core Annabeth responded, not
bothering to look away from the book she had received. What about yours?
I got a .......... wand with that s twelve and three quarters inches long, and a dragon heartstring core

Mohandas Gandhi vs. Martin Luther King Jr.
Mohandas Gandhi vs. Martin Luther King Jr. People all over the world know that Mohandas
Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. did great things in their life times. But which one was more
effective during his time? The answer to this question is somewhat biased, usually depending on
your race, geographical location, and if you or someone you know has directly experienced the
effects of the actions of these men. An Indian would choose Mohandas Gandhi over Martin Luther
King Jr. without even thinking about it. African Americans are going to choose Martin Luther
King Jr. because he fought for their rights. Someone living in or near South Africa or India would
most likely choose Mohandas Gandhi as the more effective person, whereas a person near... Show

The petition was presented to the Assembly after only one month. This cause became obvious
that it wasn t only for the Indian s right to vote but for their survival as a community in Natal.
The majority of Indians had just stayed in South Africa after their time as slaves on plantations
or in mines ended. These men were about to have to pay a tax of twenty five pounds, an amount
they couldn t pay. Gandhi appealed to the Viceroy of India, the Colonial Secretary in London,
and to Naoroji, the Indian member of Parliament (Coolidge 44). He registered as an advocate
before Natal s Supreme Court, wrote articles, gave speeches, and even removed his turban while
the court was in session. Though he could not win voting privileges for immigrants from India, he
did retain the power to vote for those Indians already on the voting lists. Unfortunately, Gandhi s
hard work did not abolish the tax but he managed to get it reduced to three pounds, still only some
could pay this. More important than these two achievements was the Natal Indian Congress. This
was a permanent organization with an educational branch and it was available to the poor. Its wide
availability exposed the organization to the masses. After his accomplishments in South Africa
Gandhi returned to India. A pivotal moment in India s struggle for independence came on March
12, 1930. This two hundred mile, twenty four day walk was taken by seventy eight men and
women with Gandhi, 61 at the

Summary Of The School Days Of Indian Girl By Zitkala-Sa
Zitkala Sa s autobiography informs her readers of the damaging and traumatizing effects of
assimilation by utilizing her life experiences as a narrative, demonstrating how living under an
oppressive and dominant culture was an internal struggle between society s expectations and her
own cultural identity. Sa s experience is especially unique considering her mixed heritage as well.
Zitkala Sa s The School Days of an Indian Girl is an autobiography that was published in the
Atlantic Monthly in 1901. The autobiography in detail describes her experience in her
community, the Yankton Indian Reservation in South Dakota as a child and later her journey
ravelling with European American missionaries to attend a Quaker Missionary School that
teaches speaking, reading and writing in English. Upon her arrival at the missionary led school,
Sa felt ostracized, fearful, and terrified of every little adjustment or ordeal that appeared to be
foreign or unknown to her based upon her cultural identity and heritage. Her trauma often led to
many nights where she would sob and cry herself to sleep. Her daunting experiences of having
her heritage ripped away ensued when Sa caught word that her long and heavy hair was to be cut
(314). From the teachings from her Mother, Sa understood that only the unskilled warriors who
were captured had their hair shingled by the enemy (314). She cried and shook her head with
anguish but as her thick braids were cut she then lost her spirit (315).

Themes In Tao Te Ching
The ideas presented in the Tao Te Ching are similar to those of the Bhagavadgita in many ways.
There is an emphasis on ridding oneself of worldly desires so that one can have self control over
their own senses since Conquering yourself is true strength (Addiss, Page 33). The Tao suggests
that creating order can be good, as long as one eventually allows the creation to undergo its own
journey and not try to dictate it. Give birth and do not possess. Excel but do not rule (Addiss,
Page 10). There are numerous references about what makes a good ruler in the Tao. I do nothing
and people transform themselves. I enjoy serenity and people govern themselves (Addiss, Page 57).
The idea that when people are left to themselves they eventually are... Show more content on

Throughout his life he had forsaken his goals, for the goals of the Japanese emperor. In doing
so, he had performed acts against the prisoners that he felt were morally wrong. He had always
used his powers for the sake of the empire and the emperor. His idea of his own goodness,
though, was becoming harder and harder to hold on to (Flanagan, Page 349). This quote shows
that one can spend their whole life serving a master, but at the end of life, it is not enough to
follow the rules set by those above one, but one must feel as if they attained and followed their
own moral standards. The theme present in the Tao and the Bhagavadgita that entails forsaking
worldly possessions and desires would create a more group oriented mentality and would allow
all humans a basic standard of living. Instead of having an extreme wage gap between classes, all
people could have their necessities provided for. A world in which possessions were not as highly
valued would lead to less stealing, an ideal presented in the Bhagavadgita. All these factors
practiced together would lead to a more peaceful, group oriented, non discriminatory

The Unexamined Life Of Socrates
Sanha Ryoo PHIL 127 Paper 1 02 October 2014 The Unexamined Life Through several dialogues
Plato gives readers accounts of Socrates interactions with other Athenians. While some may think
of him as a teacher of sorts, Socrates is adamant in rejecting any such claim (Plato, Apology 33a
b). He insists that he is not a teacher because he is not transferring any knowledge from himself
to others, but rather assisting those he interacts with in reaching the truth. This assistance is the
reason Socrates walks around Athens, engaging in conversation with anyone that he can
convince to converse with him. An assertion he makes at his trial in Plato s Apology is at the
center of what drives Socrates in his abnormal ways, the unexamined life is not worth living for a
human being (38a). Socrates, through aporia, looks to lead an examined life to perfect his soul
and live as the best person he can be. This paper looks to examine the unexamined life and the
implications rooted in living a life like Socrates . First, it is important to analyze what examination
entails exactly, because one must understand what something is before inspecting the why .
Jumping to the why before knowing exactly what the thing one is examining is would be
irresponsible. How can one make a judgment about something without properly comprehending
what it is? In Plato s dialogues, Socrates questions the person he is in dialogue with to show that
the person does not actually have the knowledge he claims to

The Importance Of Volunteering At The Bakersfield Spca
I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Bakersfield SPCA. Volunteering here was very
rewarding as I was able to provide care for cats and dogs who may never get adopted. My
responsibilities consisted of cleaning the cats kennels and making them presentable to any potential
adopters. This consisted of wiping the outside of the kennels and replacing the catlitter boxes so the
cats would have a clean place to use. I also cleaned the inside of the kennels and provided them
with water and food. Through this process I began meeting the cats as they would approach me to
see what was going on. I realized that most of the cats were either grey with black markings or
entirely black which meant that they had a less of a chance of getting adopted... Show more content

Such as climbing structures, scratching post or a place to run (2/26/17). In an attempt to meet the
cat s telos I got to spend time grooming and socializing the animals in an effort to make them more
sociable which would make them more adoptable.
I also provided the dogs with the opportunity to get out of their small enclosure and to feel the
grass underneath their paws. While speaking to one of the workers I was told that the animals do
not get to come out of their kennels to often because, since the shelter is a nonprofit shelter they
depend a lot on the donations from the public. Which means that they can only hire the exact
amount of people that will help perform the necessary duties but they lack the extra help that can
help with taking the dogs out or grooming the cats. For this reason, they depend greatly on the
community to go in and volunteer.
Animal shelters and the community The Bakersfield SPCA is one of the smallest shelters within
Bakersfield. They depend greatly on the community to help sponsor animals. This means that the
community members, depending on the type of animal, will provide a starting kit which include
food, bedding, and a scratching post to the adopters. The animals who were sponsor by the
community are cats that are older or have been at the shelter longer than the rest. This is a form of
trying to save as many animals as possible by defining the animal as a shelter mascot (3/28/2017).

The Religious Event I Chose Essay
The religious event I chose was the Walk to Emmaus. This is a seventy two hour course on
Christianity. It takes place at Settle United Methodist Church started at 7:00 pm on Thursday
and ended on Sunday at 6:00 pm. Once I arrive a lady meets me at the door and says what road
are you on, on your faith journey. I stop for a minute to think and reply I really don t know at
this point. I have been dealing with a lot these past few months. I have questioned my faith, and
at times even felt abandoned. She grabs my hand and says, So let us get you registered then.
Following registration there is an introduction to explain what will take place the next few days
along with an orientation. Welcome everyone the lady begins. She continues to explain that in
the next three days, that Emmaus will teach us to inspire, challenge, and equip us for Christian
action in our homes, community, and work. There will be no cell phones, television, or internet.
Finally that night we are told there will be an evening prayer and then silence to reflect until
morning. Once I am settled in an elderly lady comes and sits beside me. I did not see this lady
earlier in the group. She says to me all your questions will be answered. I look at her and say All of

Second Wave Feminism In Education
was not a lot of freedom for women in my generation. We did what we were supposed to do. I
went to school to teach because there weren t a lot of options to pursue any other kind of fields.
She went on to explain how opportunities began to open for women. A few years after I
graduated in 1959, things began to change. I don t think there were any kinds of political reforms
yet, but women just began to complain about not having enough options. Soon, the schools began
to listen, and all types of fields began to open up for women in education. She further stated, I

However, the theories themselves were not without criticism. For instance, the second wave
feminist did not make an effort to include men in their movement. In addition, the prominent focus
of second wave feminism was white middle class women. Furthermore, the second wave feminism
did not focus on multicultural concerns, such as the impact of sexism in addition to racism and
oppression. Additionally, feminist of this period were often disparaging of housewives and
esteemed women who worked over women who chose to stay at home and raise a family. In
addition to these criticisms, the empowerment prospective received criticism for focusing solely on
working for change within an existing system and not aiming to change the system as a whole (Van
Wagner). Though many of these concerns and criticisms were addressed in the third wave of
feminism, the second wave isolated from itself many men and women who would perhaps have
otherwise been allies for change. Despite these short coming, the second wave of feminism and the
feminist theory brought about significant change not only to specific institutions such as the
education system, but also brought about awareness of the inequalities and sexism that permeated
nearly every facet of life for women prior to the 1960s and 1970s. Feminist theory was birthed out
of the lack of opportunities that women like my grandmother and those before her experienced.
Even though she may not have directly benefited from the changes that took place in society during
her lifetime, she was able to see her children and grandchildren inherit the opportunities that were

Saint Anselm s Ontological Argument

Saint Anselm s Ontological Argument
The debate over the existence of God has been going on for, quite literally, thousands of years.
Whether it was a Christian God or Pagan gods, there were always those who didn t believe or
would refute the existence of these gods. Despite one s stance on religion, it is known that churches
and monasteries in the past were some of the key places for development of education, and even
philosophy. Those involved in the church wouldn t necessarily make all of their writing centered on
God, but it would make sense that the monks in these establishments would use their educated
minds and argumentative skills to argue the existence of their God. While ... Show more content on

The argument is presented as if he is speaking to or trying to persuade someone that believes God

The Sea Of The Mediterranean Sea
The Mediterranean Sea is the largest enclosed sea in the world, surrounded by Europe, Africa,
and Asia the most populated region of the globe. It is connected to the Atlantic Ocean by the
Strait of Gibraltar which separates Spain from Africa, a distance of 8.9 miles. The sea has an
average depth of 4,900 feet, but the deepest point is in the Calypso Deep in the Ionian Deep,
having recorded 17,280 feet. It is bordered by 25 coastlines and is split into seven subdivisions of
which are the Aegean, Adriatic, Ionian, Tyrrhenian, Ligurian, Balearic, and Alboran seas. It also
contains a shallow submarine ridge (Strait of Sicily) between Sicily and Tunisia, dividing the sea
into two main sub regions the Eastern and Western Mediterranean. It has an annual temperature of
19 degrees Celsius, but waters located near the warmer regions (I.E. Africa) can reach up to 26
degrees Celsius in the summer. The Mediterranean is characterized by its deep blue color which
derives from its warm temperatures and higher salt production due to mass evaporation. It is known
to have hot, dry summers and wet winters except for the Southern regions considering they have
desert like climates. Early civilizations thought that the Mediterranean was the center of their region
considering they had not traveled out of their boundaries yet, therefore giving its Latin name
mediterraneus , meaning middle of land. Its combination of strong winds and an arid climate results

The Romantic Period Of Literature
The Romantic Period of literature took place roughly 200 years ago, but examples of Romanticism
can still be seen today. The Romantic authors most certainly had an impact on many artists to come.
Edgar Allan Poe is often a name that comes to mind when discussing Romanticism and especially
Dark Romanticism and for good reason. Poe exemplifies Romanticismand many examples can be
seen in his work, such as the House of Usher. Some traits of Romanticism include high drama,
pathetic fallacy, and shocking climax, which are a few pillars of the Romanticism style. These
pillars still hold up in modern day art, with many filmmakers, such as M. Night Shyamalan who
also exemplifies traits such as high drama, pathetic fallacy, and black and white characters.
Edgar Allen Poe was an American author who wrote many short stories and poetry that has
glorified him as a master of horror, suspense, psychological thriller, and romanticism. One of his
works that embodies such pillars of Romanticism is the Fall of the House of Usher. In this story,
Poe embraces pathetic fallacy from the very beginning. He talks about how gloomy and
mysterious the house is which is also a house from his childhood. He sets the stage with the
following quote: DURING the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year,
when the clouds hung oppressively low in the heavens, I had been passing alone, on horseback,
through a singularly dreary tract of country ; and at length found myself, as the

Why Nhs ( National Health Service ) Organisations Need...
NHS has undergone many changes since its inception in 1948 and it has become a clichГ© to say
that only thing which is constant in the NHS is change. There are many drivers of these changes
the external and internal, the patient led, the policy led and also the changes driven by politics
(Buchanan et al, 2013) and finances (DOH, 2010). This essay will critically analyse models of
change and how they are relevant to my organisation (NHS). This essay will also critically evaluate
human dimensions of change and how they impact on success and implementation of
organisational change.
Why NHS (National Health Service) Organisations Need Change?
Usually a need to change a service is identified, based on feed back from staff or patients, though
there are numerous examples in the NHS when the managers or ministers (Darzi, 2008, Francis
2013) were forced to take decisions because of critical incidents or massive failure noted by an
external review of an NHS Trust (Francis, 2013, Berwick, 2013). Lord Darzi s (2008) NHS Next
Stage Review described a model of clinician led change leadership in the NHS (The King Fund,
2011), by doing so Lord Darzi aspired to provide frontline staff with greater freedom to make
positive changes to deliver best quality of care.
In a multilayered and complex organisation like NHS usually big changes are driven by national
level policies or enquiries (Simon, 1979). For example Francis (2013) indicated that there were
massive failures of leadership and

Faint Memories Of Visiting My Motherland
Faint memories of visiting my motherland linger in my thoughts and dreams. My visit to
Bangladesh was filled with celebrations, feasts, adventures, and treacherous journeys! Many of
these memories have been forgotten for several years. Faces and locations lost in my head. Yet, it
was on one of these perilous journeys that I had discovered a treasure so grand, that it has been
embedded in my thoughts ever since. A treasure so grand that it couldn t be found anywhere else.
A treasure so valuable that it could never be taken elsewhere to be cherished forever.
My breath was frozen in the air as a dead silence surrounded me. A light fog covered the muddy
trail since I began my hike. The drizzling rain only added to the gloomy and haggard feeling. My
boots were pressed against the ground, slowly sinking into the damp earth. The faint knocking of
bamboo could be heard growing louder. Someone or something was approaching me. Being the
curious and careless child I was, I left the trail to approach the patch of bamboo. The rugged terrain
of the trail pulled at my sore feet, and the wind whistled and whispered in my ears, as it was
warning me not to leave. But, I continued to trudge forward into the unknown. The bamboo was
bendy enough for my weak arms to push as I approached the knocking noise. Slowly I took
cautious steps to avoid the broken and fallen pieces of bamboo scattered across the ground. As I
was about to take my next step, a person s foot came slamming down into the ground! I stumbled
backward, crashing onto the ground! Suddenly, a figure broke through the cluster of bamboo.
As I looked up, out stepped a figure familiar to me. It was my father! His confusion expression
became that of relief as he helped up from the ground. He told me to follow him back to the trail
he was on. My dad and I cut through the stalks of bamboo once again until we reached a trail
similar to previous. We continued to follow the trail was a maze of lush greenery and foliage.
The trail twisted and curved. It was unknown to me, yet so familiar to my dad, I thought as I
continued hiking in amazement. Trees towered over us as the skyscrapers in the city would. The
trees were castles of wood protecting a hidden treasure. Flowers and

Erik Erikson s Theory Of Development
Susan is a sixty seven year old woman. She worked in human resources for a significant portion
of her life, however, in her later middle adult life decided to return to school to study to be a
registered nurse (RN). This was tough for Susan considering she was a mother of five her eldest
being in her late twenties and her youngest in elementary school. When asked to reminisce over
her life, Susan had numerous interesting stories from her life and shared much wisdom. If one
analyzes Susan s lifespan interview using Erikson s theory, they will realize that she has always
been conquering developmental conflict at each life stage. Before analyzing Susan s life, when one

In this developmental stage adults face generativity versus stagnation. In the last developmental
stage, late adulthood, people encounter an integrity versus despair crisis (Coon Mitterer, 2015, p.

resolved. This was just an overview to Erikson s developmental theory, however, it greatly assists
the analyzation of Susan s life. To begin, this paper will not examine at the trust versus mistrust
stage considering Susan cannot recollect being an infant. Therefore, beginning at the early
childhood stage, Susan felt extremely self sufficient compared to her younger siblings; she
remembers having bathroom accidents and incidents of bed wetting. Nevertheless, she remembers
seeking her mother out and asking for assistance in the cleanup. Therefore, Susan clearly achieved
autonomy over shame and doubt. The virtue earned here was will she was willing to seek support
and admit wrongdoing. The subsequent stage is the middle childhood stage; this age is
characterized by children being playful and commencement school. At this period, the crisis is
initiative versus guilt. Susan showed initiative and made exceptional grades in preschool and
elementary school and as stated previously she showed early signs of mastering appropriate times
to be guilty. She was ambitious and determined to do outstanding in school and was remorseful

The Importance Of Faulkner s Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance...
What defines a writer and their ability to deliver a message? Is it their level of eloquence? Or is
it the topic that they decided to dedicate their time to writing about? To simply answer, yes and
yes. Being a writer does require all of the above, but it necessitates something more. It requires the
passion and ardor that one has to bring into their writing. In a time of fear and anguish, most might
lose that passion that sparked in them, leaving behind a passionless and hopeless shell. In his
Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech at the Nobel Banquet, these were the issues William Faulkner
had to address.

Over 50 years later, University of Chicago economist, Steven D. Levitt, and New York Times
journalist, Stephen J. Dubner, combined their knowledge and skills and created the book,
Freakonomics. The book follows an economist, Levitt, as he explores the hidden side of
everything and explains it all in a different, unconventional perspective. It takes on the topic of
morality and economics as he, along with Dubner, ask and answer many questions such as, which
is more dangerous, a gun or a swimming pool? What do schoolteachers and sumo wrestlers have

As they answer these unconventional questions, it show the consideration, thoughtfulness, and

they give the answers but they give a thorough explanation as they navigate the readers through
their entire thinking process, showing the passion and deliberation that they put into making this

The Last Emperor Essay
The Last Emperor: Truth and Misleading In 1987, a film came into theaters across the globe
about China s last emperor. The Last Emperor, directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, shows the life of
Pu Yi from when he enters the Forbidden City at age three to become emperor of China, to his
final days as a reformed man. The film, although it showed how Chinawas during the Qing Dynasty
in a fairly honest light, also had its downfalls. Many problems plagues the last years of the Qing
Dynasty, such as the Republic Revolutions, opium, warlords, and the confusing relationship with
Japan and it s government during this time. These issues were either not touched on or barely
noticeable during the almost three hour long film. The story of Pu Yi, China s... Show more content

This caused the empress to grow an addiction and made Pu Yi look like a fool at a party. In
general Chinese society opium made workers, traders, merchants useless. With this China grew
weaker as a country, making China an easy target for other countries to come in and gain power.
The warlords in China and Japan were great examples. In the film warlords were almost a
constant mention, but it was never fully disclosed who warlords were or what their purpose was
during the dramatic changes in China. The Warlord Period, which was happening during Pu Yi s
time as a figurehead, not as an emperor, was a time of despair. Until the middle of the 1920s the
warlords were a problem to the country of China. They became a danger because they now were
the possessors of modern weapons, which united them with their suppliers, the Western powers,
and gave them command and money and resources. (Morton, 181) Warlords were a symbol of
the confusion and misguidance China was under as reform in government and the influence of
other countries was taking hold. The Last Emperor merely mentions warlords in the film and
leaves the viewer questioning why these people are such a burden to China and what exactly
they were doing to cause problems. Even so, they were discussed at proper times in the film,
giving the film historical accuracy on when warlords were prevalent and how the end of the
warlord period ended with the rise of Japanese power. Japan became very influential during the

Ftp Impact On Society
The early 1930s was home to one of the most devastating times in American history. Many
Americans were unemployed, making little money, and struggled getting by everyday. One thing
that brought people together were the theatrical arts. The Federal Theatre Project (FTP) helped to
bring jobs and entertainment to people during the Great Depression. The FTP did many things to
bring theatrical works across the country, but the short span of four years questions its
effectiveness. The FTP gained government support and provided jobs for people seeking work.
With the government backing the FTP, there were sure to be political problems such as
unconstitutional practices. Theaters were private businesses which provided unions to protect

Analysis Of Cosi Fan Tutte
Avtaran Jain Cosi Fan Tutte Review Many have heard the saying that art does not have a language
barrier. However, there are times when the expression above fails to hold true for a performance. It
in during these times, that the unison of the audience breaks, and a dichotomy forms. My recent
experience with the play, Cosi Fan Tutte was somewhat similar to the events described above.
Although Cosi Fan Tutte attempts to establish itself in the hearts of the crowd through its talented
and experienced cast, it ultimately fails due to its tediously repetitive song structure and narrow
intended audience. The adeptness and dexterity of an individual have always been fundamental
talents to look for when viewing a performance. These individuals are the one that help the event
advance to success. When it comes to the qualities mentioned above, the cast of Cosi Fan Tutte
definitely possess most. Because Cosi Fan Tutte is a performance written by Mozart, it comes as
no surprise that the level of singingand acting required is highly demanding even for veterans in
the industry. Yet, despite all these hurdles, the cast of the performance is able to captivate and
delight the audience through its outstanding vocal finesse and entertaining characterization.
Ferrando, played by Carlos Feliciano and Guglielmo, played by Eli Glick are the stars of the show,
displaying their level of musical acumen through songs such as Una bella serenata and E voi ridete

The Effects Of A Highway Expansion On Highway 52
For my research I will be researching a highway expansion on highway 52 from Ft. Lupton all the

The issue with this highway is that it is very dangerous because it is only two lanes, and the
people that drive through this highway at times drive very fast. Since there are hills from
Keenesburg, at times the driver cannot see who is coming. This can result in collision crashes.
However that is not the only problem with this highway.

I agree partially with the statement, particularly the first part in regards to the fact that the Romans
made a substantial amount of medical progress in public health. However I don t think that their
understanding and treatment of disease was any less considerable than their contribution to public
health. Firstly yes, they had incredible advancements in public health for the time period that they
were in. The Romans tried (as best as they could) to ensure that public health was very high, this
was aided by the fact that they had public baths, sewers, aqueducts, hospitals, and generally tried to

Essay On Sack Of Rome, And Concerning The Ruin Of Spain
In both The Expulsion from Spain, Alaric s Sack of Rome, and Concerning the Ruin of Britain,
we presented with historical examples of people being displaced by from their land. The Celts in
Britain, the Jews in Spain, and the Romans in Rome all faced opposition from an enemy (The
Anglo Saxons, the Spanish Monarchy, and the Visigoths, respectively). But what differentiates the
three circumstances from each other, besides timeline, is the circumstance and ultimate resolution.
The same time as Columbus was sailing the ocean to the Americas, Queen Isabella and King
Ferdinand of Spain officially exiled a large population of Jewish people. According to the author
of the text, this vicious edict, ...was prompted only in part by the greed of the king and the

But from the perspective of those in the text we ve looked at, the Celts, Jews, Romans, were

Heidegger Lecture 2 and 3 of What Is Called Thinking
Sarah Oliver
Presentation
Heidegger
April 19, 2012
In Lecture I of Part II, Heidegger points out that asking the question of What is called thinking can
be incredibly diverse and complicated because there is not just one explanation for the question,
although at a glance it seems pretty simple to explain. He stresses four ways in which the question
can be posed. The first way asks what is designated by the word thinking, the second asks what
logic has to do with thought, the third asks what the prerequisites are for thinking, and the final
question is what actually commands and provokes us to think? It seems that thinking is like baking
a cake for Heidegger, no ingredient is more important than the other, just like no question ... Show

When the question: What is called thinking? is reconsidered in Heidegger terms, it might better be
read as asking, What is it that invites or instructs or directs us into thinking? or in Heidegger s own
words, What is it that appeals to us to think? By asking this question, the thinker becomes the object
of the action, the one who is invited into thinking and the action is less about defining what
thinking is than in discovering how it is that the pathway into thinking is opened for us.
In Lecture II, Heidegger focuses his attention on the word thinking and what is considered thought
provoking. Thinking is a telling and speaking of language. Literature is often used as a medium
for both science and poetry and for that reason there is some confusion between what is actually
thought provoking. The three should be separated. There is science, there is thought, and there is
poetry and the difference between poetry and science is that poetic work is a work of our language
much like thinking is, although thinking does not make poetry. Thought and poesy are related
because they never just use language as a means of expression, they are the actual makers of
language and the final speech.
We view science as thinking because we are immersed in it throughout our everyday lives. Car
companies are trying to make cars more efficient and doctors are trying to figure out how to cure
cancer. We are

whether firms manipulate accruals and special items to beat the zero earnings benchmark.

Roychowdhury (2006) derived normal levels of cash flow from operations, discretionary expenses
and production costs; then tested the effect of sales manipulation, discretionary expenditures and
overproduction on the abnormal of the previous three variables. His research found that directors
use the various RM activities to manipulate earnings, however it is unclear just how much can be
attributed to the purpose of meeting expectations, and how much is to simply control expenses
during times of difficulty. Grahama, Harvey and Rajgopalc (2004) interviewed over 400

builds credibility with the market and multiplies the positive effect, confirming previous research.
The executives also believed failing to meet the targets would result in a severe market reaction
and that directors sacrifice economic value to avoid these effects, avoiding a potentially larger
economic loss. This can also be said of achieving or beating expectations, where the potential
economic gain from the multiplied positive market effect can easily outweigh the economic
sacrifice. Equipped with these justifications, over 80% of those surveyed admitted they were
willing to sacrifice economic value and use RM to meet expectations. Moreover, the executives

Mere Christian Commentary
This parable, unique to Luke, requires the utmost care in its interpretation. It must neither be over
allegorized as it was by the early church fathers, nor reduced to a simplistic meaning hardly worthy
of Jesus teaching. Above all, it must be understood in its context, with attention to the questions of
vv.25 and 29 and to Jesus application in vv.36 37, write Liefeld and Pao (The Expositor s Bible

St. Luke s gospel in chapter ten, verses twenty five through thirty seven, that the focus lie on the
context of the passage. The central theme of this passage is that one cannot define one s neighbor;

Teacher, he said, what must I do to inherit eternal life?
The lawyer here is not the same sort of lawyer we know of in our society today. Leon Morris
states, A lawyer would be concerned not with secular studies, but with the law in the Jewish sense,
the first five books of the Old Testament. Arising from that he would have studied the rest of
Scripture and matters incidental. He was thus a man who might be expected to be both interested
in and knowledgeable about religious affairs (Tyndale Commentary on Luke 1974: 205). Another
translation refers to this man as an expert in the Law meaning the Torah, not the laws governing
society. It is indeed interesting that the man asks a question he already knows the answer to. I can
imagine him being really snide and sarcastic, like a punk junior high kid, as he mouthed off,
Teacher! What must I do to inherit eternal life?
He asked the question in order to gain an advantage over Jesus and to show him up or to test him
(Tyndale Commentary on Luke 1975: 205). He also asked a question with no intention of living
out the implications of its answer. Leon Morris notes, That is to say he asked his question, not in
the search for information, but to see what kind of answer Jesus would produce. He may even have

In Act I, Scene 2, Travis was chasing a large rat for fun. He implies that the rat was big as a rat
(excited and full of narrative) (Hansberry 59) which was probably their definition of fun. Travis
shows remarkable maturity by requesting permission to make some money by bagging
groceries at the local grocery store to display that for the most part, he s a kind, innocent, and
good hearted child. Throughout the play, Travis feels the pressure to think big and be better
than his ancestors. The growing pains of becoming a man are evident in his relationship with his
parents. Ruth wants her son to understand hardship so that he grows up with the determination to
succeed out of his lower class status. Walter also feels this way, but oftentimes counteracts Ruth
s efforts as he strives to prove he can sufficiently provide for his son. An example of this conflict
is Ruth refusing to give Travis fifty cents which is later overruled by Walter when he gives
Travis one dollar. Metaphorically, Travis is being pushed and pulled in multiple directions by
each person s vision of what is best for his future. Overall, Travis can be a little out of hand, but
besides that, he is a sympathetic child. He shows maturity and responsibility within his actions
throughout the play. As he gets older, his family believes that Travis will help contribute to making a

decreased tremendously. In 1832, Edward Barrett was forced to sell his rural estate at an auction.
After selling their land, the family rented cottages in a coastal town for the next three years before
settling in London. In 1833, after the move, Barrett published her translation of Aeschylus s
Prometheus Bound, an Ancient Greek tragedy. A few years after that she published The Seraphim
and Other Poems, a book expressing her opinion on Christian faith.
Barrett s health continued to decline, she moved in with her brother, Edward, near the sea of
Torquay. That same year, Edward drowned while sailing in the waters of Torquay. Barrett was
forced to move back to London, she was physically and emotionally weak, but that didn t stop here

The Importance Of Choosing A College
Choosing what to do for the rest of your life and which school to attend is a difficult decision at
the age of eighteen. Throughout your high school career, teachers warn students how hard
choosing a college will be. Teachers prepare the students for this time in their life, but as the day
comes, the decision is not easier. Many factors are taken into consideration when choosing a college
. Factors such as cost, programs offered, and living arrangements are considered. Universities are
alike in certain ways, such as aspects on campus. Although universities are similar, they may differ
in location. One universitymay be closer to a student s hometown, which could be one of the
attracting factors of that school to the student. In order to understand and view the important
aspects each school has to offer, it is crucial to compare and contrast Northern Illinois University
and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to distinguish which school offers more to suit my
wants and needs as a student entering college. While deciding on a college, cost can be a big
factor in the decision that is being made. Cost is important because the student will be paying off
that debt for many years after the college degree has been received. Most students are unable to pay
off the large expense that college brings up front, so student loans must be taken out. With student
loans, there is interest. If the student attends an expensive college and does not start out in their
career making a lot

On March 12, 2009, Madoff pled guilty to an 11 count criminal complaint admitting to running an

Dolphus s Judgement
Judgment is the ability to observe a situation and determine whether or not something is right or
wrong. If we are honest with ourselves, we have to admit that sometimes our assumptions and
preconceived notions are wrong, and therefore, our interpretation of events is incorrect. This
causes us to overreact, to take things personally, or to judge people unfairly, proclaims Elizabeth
Thornton, a canadian writer. She presents that being hypocritical can be detrimental and making
presumptions result in false ideas. In Harper Lee s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, she discloses that
being discerning is an inaccurate way to act in society. People attempt to be helpful to others, but
the end result is often harm or unintended mistakes. In the book,... Show more content on

The citizens of Maycomb think, He can t help himself, that s why he lives the way he does (Lee
228), and Dolphus understands this clearly. He recognizes that he is kind to all towns people
and children, yet, he is still rejected for living with a black women and mullato children. One
action Dolphus performs is pretending to be drunk in public. He puts this act on due to it being
easier for individuals to believe he is drunk, rather than presume that he chooses to live this way.
He is selecting to have people think poorly of him in view of the fact that it is easier for him to
be seen as the bad guy than it is for him to explain to everyone that he is not. Another instance of
how dolphus unselfishly helps people is when he calls to Dill, Come on round here son, I got
something that ll settle your stomach (Lee 267). Offering Dill the Coca Cola, he is proving his kind
innocence, although the kids are unsure, due to everybody making the assumption of Dolphus
Raymond being the town drunk. Nobody gives him the chance or trust he deserves until now. He
displays his affable attitude, but instead, people do not pay attention, they rather judge and cause

Essay on Technology Opportunities in Transportation
The purpose of this paper is to illustrate three technology opportunities associated with the
transportation and logistics industry. With today s constantly evolving business environment,
consumers are placing demand on businesses of all industries, and they want products and services
faster, with more added value, and delivered immediately. Nevertheless, customers are smarter by
requiring more quality, innovation, and choice, and at the same time wanting to spend less money
and effort. Consequently, every transportation business has to remain highly competitive in
researching and developing innovative cost cutting techniques in order to save money.

These trucks compete for roughly 300,000 parking spots located throughout the country. While
parked, especially in locations of extreme hot or cold, these trucks are typically found idling while
the driver is resting. In addition to being a home away from home for the truck drivers, they idle for
a variety of reasons. These include keeping the fuel and engine warm, for the driver s resting
comfort, to mask out other noises, and for safety (Keller). Unfortunately, while they are idling,
the engine is consuming diesel fuel at a time when oil prices are at their highest. It has been
calculated that every hour a truck idles unnecessarily is equivalent to 8 10 miles of on road
driving (Keller). Although it is necessary for the drivers to idle, it has been a major concern in
terms of wasted fuel within the trucking industry, costing them 3 billion gallons of fuel every year.
Several different technologies have been introduced to combat the wasted fuel and reduce or
eliminate truck idling times. One such advancement is an electrified parking space (EPS) for
the drivers. The electrified parking space allows the driver a parking spot (for rest, sleep, etc.) and
an oversized power cord that allows the truck to plug into electric grids to power their cabins. This
enables a clean energy source from the power grid, and reduces the driver s need to

What Is The Theme Of My Papa s Waltz
While the subject of My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate academic debate
from professors, scholars, and students alike, the imagery, syntax, and diction of the poem clearly
support the interpretation that Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz as a loving relationship between an
imperfect father and young son.
Roethke s word choice focuses on the mixed emotions he feels towards his father. Although the
combination of the words death and waltzing in the first stanza, the poet describes a serious but
amusing atmosphere around him and his father. The image of a waltz illustrates the requirement of
two individuals to show the closeness of the pair. At the same time, Roethke loves his father, but
he also expresses fear. The poet shows this fear through the use of words as battered and scraped. ...

son when he said, The hand that held my wrist . The holding hand symbolizes the close
relationship that they had. This contrasts with the beginning of the poems first lines; [t]he wiskey

has the ability to hurt the child. This ingrains the fear into the child.

Spalding Research Paper
The History of The Founding of Spalding (Extra): The history of Spalding is one that few know,
yet is incredibly interesting. The island nation of over 11 million, is relatively unknown, yet has
played a major role in global history, global conflicts, and has a deeply interesting founding story.
Founded as a country in 1543, there is a long path from its founding to where it is today. The
discovery of Spalding occurred in 1439, 100 years before confederacy. The island was discovered
by an expedition set out by the Walthford Family; an affluent family, who sailed the world looking
for uninhabited, profitable lands. When the expedition returned to France, they reported that the
island had large Quartz deposits in the Northern, mountainous side of the island. Quartz, being a
highly profitable mineral, drew the Walthford Family to send a large crew of workers there to mine
it. Ferrand Walthford, the eldest son, went with the crew, to oversee the mining.... Show more

Moral Decision Making In The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe Essay
We all make choices; sometimes those choices have negative consequences.
By Ehi Oyugbo
Humans are capable of making their own decisions which can often have positive or negative
consequences on both themselves and others. Every day we face decisions about what to eat, what
to wear and how to use our time.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobeby C.S Lewis tells a story of forgiveness, bravery, self
sacrifice and betrayal while introducing Christian values and lessons on moral conduct. Although
Lewis claims that links to the Christian faith are purely coincidental, the story contains elements of
Christian allegory and many parallels between the scriptures and the life of the Pevensie children.
This essay will analyse both Aslan and Edmund Pevensie s choices throughout the movie and their
influencing factors in order to gain insight into moral decision making.
Set in the1940 s during World War II, The Lion, the Witch and the follows the four English
siblings: Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie who are evacuated to the country house of an
old Professor for their safety during the London air raids. There, they find an old cupboard which
has the ability to transport them between the real world and Narnia.
Edmund is the 3rd oldest of the Pevensie children, at the age of 10. Due to his experiences at
school he became a bully, being the conceited, spiteful traitor of the family. One of the many
parallels present in the movie is

or the people they my children would become if they spent their days in daycare instead of making

  • 2. Amedisys Group Structure Amedisys is known for being a frontrunner agency. Amedisys is divided up into two departments, home health and hospice (Amedisys , 2014). The department of the agency that I am working with is Amedisys hospice. Amedisys is a bureaucratic company on many different levels. A Bureaucratic agency can be defined as, management or administration marked by hierarchical authority among numerous offices and by fixed procedures (American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 2011). There is a formal structure in the company and in each department. There are rules and expectations set for each department. There are strict policies for what each worker can do. Policies are not only set for workers, but for the patients too. Amedisys has certain... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everyone in the office has known set guideline of what their daily tasks that they are to complete. I think this is attributed to such the calm mood in the office. There are times that things can get hectic and, usually during our morning meetings, but after that the mood dissolve and disappear. There is a front desk as you walk in the front door, since I have started at the agency there is no one there. For the most part there is no need for a receptionist. None of our clients physically come into our offices. We go to them, in the comfort of their home. This is because our clients are our clients because of terminal or chronically ill patients. We are there to provide a comfortable life. With there being so many workers in and out of the office, whoever is working from the office, becomes the receptionist. I m defining the Receptionist role as answering the phone. Our phones ring constantly. When our patients have questions, are concerns, it is the quickest way to get a hold of us. While each of the workers who visit the patients has a cell the office is also another way of contacting us. It is fundamentally important that our patients and patient s families can always get in contact with us. We as a company are literally a phone call away and when patients need us, we are there as soon as possible. Communication in the office is completed in several different ways. There are emails, face to face contact, and phone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Us Involvement In Vietnam French involvement in Indochina ended after Viet Minh forces won the Battle of Dien Bien Phu on May 7th 1954. The victory of Dien Bien Phu led to the Geneva Conference in which the Viet Minh and French negotiated a ceasefire agreement. Vietnam was temporarily divided at the 17th parallel due to the terms of the Geneva Accord. During a 300 days period, citizens were able to move freely between two states. In 1956, two years after the battle of Dien Bien Phu, elections were to be held to establish a unified government in Vietnam. The accords of the Geneva Conference were not pleasing to the United Statesgovernment, who feared that the elections would be unfair and manipulated under the Communist influence. The Vietnam war had far reaching effects on the United States, other than the vast amount of casualties suffered, which was a total of 211,454 casualties throughout the war. Firstly, Congress replaced its military draft with an all volunteer force as well as reducing the voting age to 18. Congress was also inspired to restrict the president s ability to send American forces into combat without their explicit approval with the War Powers Act. President Johnson was unwilling to raise the taxes during the war, which resulted in a cycle of inflation and a devastated economy in his wake. U.S. military morale was weakened by the war and the U.S. commitment to internationalism was severely undermined as well. In addition to this the war the Democratic Party was deeply split due to the prosecution of the war, many of the former supporters viewed the party as being overrun by its anti war faction. Liberal reform was undermined and many Americans became suspicious of the government. Decades after the war had ended people were still divided over the meaning of the conflict. A Gallup Poll found that 53 percent of those surveyed believe that the war was a well intentioned mistake, while 43 percent believe it was fundamentally wrong and immoral ( Digital ... • 4. The Great Recession From 2007-2009 The market is a very fluid situation and this is becoming more and more apparent in the past ten years with the Great Recession from 2007 2009. Therefore, businesses are operating in an economy where the competition is high and the potential for failure has become significant. Those two aspects have been and should be on the forefront of every organizations mind. Companies should have a strong focus on examining and evaluating not only their financial standings, but the other competitors in their market in order to boost sales and continue on the path to maturity. If a company is successful in reaching this goal they will have the ability to hold the competitive edge on their rivals. Major organizations such as Home Depot and Lowes are placing more focus on increasing that edge, while contending with others in their pool, overall to increase, gain, and retain a piece of the devoted consumer. In order to understand and conduct a complete financial analysis of either organization, or any company for that matter, that desires to increase aspects of business, an analysis becomes fundamental when defining the company s current standings in the market. This can also be a great way in order to discover new ways for expansion of productivity and development within the organization. Throughout the execution of a financial analysis of any business, it is imperative to understand the background of the company and the products they produce and sell. By understanding these ... There has been an increase in the need for laws protecting the rights of pregnant women. Due to disparate treatment of pregnant women, laws have been established to protect their employment rights. Although laws are in place to prevent such discrimination, it has not eliminated the problem of employers discriminating against pregnant women. What is Pregnancy Discrimination? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Historical Background At the turn of the century, there were absolutely no workplace laws. They were prohibited because the Supreme Court ruled that the government should not be allowed to dictate to private employers how their workplace should be run. The one exception the Courts allowed was the laws that protected women. According to Patti Paniccia, author of Work Smarts for Women: The Court allowed these laws because it believed that the government had a stake in the offspring that women bore an interest in preserving the strength and vigor of the race. Concern for offspring has been a traditional grounds for discrimination against women. It has prompted protectionist laws that prevented pregnant women from earning a living. 2 In Jack Raisner s book, Pregnancy Discrimination and Parental Leave Handbook , he indicates that the first ruling of discrimination heard by the U.S. Supreme Court, Chief Justice Warren Burger, under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, signaled a hands off approach in dealing ... • 8. The Attitude Of The Poem My Last Duchess By Robert Browning 9th Grade English Essay: Discuss the attitude of the poet towards the duchess in My Last Duchess by Robert Browning In the middle ages , the main topic used in poems was a nobleman, usually a knight in love with a married woman and had to prove his devotion by heroic deeds and amorous writings . They used blazon to emphasis the beautiful bodies of the women in those days. However, there was a radical change in the Victorian times where prostitution became such a big issue. The poems became darker and less courtly. In the poem, My last duchess by Robert Browning there was no traditional blazon such as complementing the duchess body. Yet, the speaker who is also the Duke talks about the women s body as the main justification for her assassination. The duke talks about her smile as the reason for his jealousy and possessive obecession. Robert Browning uses various literary devices to provoke a feeling to the reader. By his choice of devices, we are able to understand the feelings of the Duke towards the Duchess. The rhyme scheme of this poem is organized in rhyming couplets (AABBCC) this is used to show the relationship between him and the duchess (couplets) it may also be used to show is obecession with controlling everything and having everything organized and planned. • 9. Robinson Crusoe Book Analysis In Daniel Defoe s Robinson Crusoe, it tells the story of young man from the city York. The original name of Robinson was Kreutznar but was called Crusoe instead because so many people would butcher his name. Robinson was the third son for his father and mother. The first born son for Robinson s father was in the military as Lt. Col and was killed in action near the famous battle at Dunkirk. The second son of the family was more or less a disappointment, since neither Robinson or his parents knew what happened to him. With Robinson coming from a family of decent wealth, it was now on to him to do well for himself. It seems from an early age Robinson doesn t plan on going on the path his father wanted him to. In the book, Robinson says not bred to any trade, my head began to be fill d very early with rambling thoughts (Defoe 5). With all the education that his father was providing him, he didn t have any interests in the direction that his father was steering him to which was law. It seems Robinson wants to venture on his own path and prove that he can be successful on his terms and not that of his father and mother. Robinson wanted to be out in the sea, but his parents didn t want that for him and wouldn t give him permission to leave. Both Black and white people who grow up in the same society are capable and have the same opportunities, so why is it that black individuals have a higher crime rate. We can figure this out by looking at examples of other first world countries and data seems to show that major causes of crime are traced back to poverty, family conditions, and drugs. The fact is even though many black families are living prosperous successful lives in north America they still lag behind economic status with 35 % of African Americans living in poverty compared to 13% of all Americans. Mohandas Gandhi vs. Martin Luther King Jr. Mohandas Gandhi vs. Martin Luther King Jr. People all over the world know that Mohandas Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. did great things in their life times. But which one was more effective during his time? The answer to this question is somewhat biased, usually depending on your race, geographical location, and if you or someone you know has directly experienced the effects of the actions of these men. An Indian would choose Mohandas Gandhi over Martin Luther King Jr. without even thinking about it. African Americans are going to choose Martin Luther King Jr. because he fought for their rights. The petition was presented to the Assembly after only one month. This cause became obvious that it wasn t only for the Indian s right to vote but for their survival as a community in Natal. The majority of Indians had just stayed in South Africa after their time as slaves on plantations or in mines ended. These men were about to have to pay a tax of twenty five pounds, an amount they couldn t pay. Gandhi appealed to the Viceroy of India, the Colonial Secretary in London, and to Naoroji, the Indian member of Parliament (Coolidge 44). He registered as an advocate before Natal s Supreme Court, wrote articles, gave speeches, and even removed his turban while the court was in session. Though he could not win voting privileges for immigrants from India, he did retain the power to vote for those Indians already on the voting lists. Unfortunately, Gandhi s hard work did not abolish the tax but he managed to get it reduced to three pounds, still only some could pay this. More important than these two achievements was the Natal Indian Congress. This was a permanent organization with an educational branch and it was available to the poor. Its wide availability exposed the organization to the masses. After his accomplishments in South Africa Gandhi returned to India. A pivotal moment in India s struggle for independence came on March 12, 1930. This two hundred mile, twenty four day walk was taken by seventy eight men and women with Gandhi, 61 at the ... • 14. Summary Of The School Days Of Indian Girl By Zitkala-Sa Zitkala Sa s autobiography informs her readers of the damaging and traumatizing effects of assimilation by utilizing her life experiences as a narrative, demonstrating how living under an oppressive and dominant culture was an internal struggle between society s expectations and her own cultural identity. Sa s experience is especially unique considering her mixed heritage as well. Zitkala Sa s The School Days of an Indian Girl is an autobiography that was published in the Atlantic Monthly in 1901. The autobiography in detail describes her experience in her community, the Yankton Indian Reservation in South Dakota as a child and later her journey ravelling with European American missionaries to attend a Quaker Missionary School that teaches speaking, reading and writing in English. Upon her arrival at the missionary led school, Sa felt ostracized, fearful, and terrified of every little adjustment or ordeal that appeared to be foreign or unknown to her based upon her cultural identity and heritage. Her trauma often led to many nights where she would sob and cry herself to sleep. Her daunting experiences of having her heritage ripped away ensued when Sa caught word that her long and heavy hair was to be cut (314). From the teachings from her Mother, Sa understood that only the unskilled warriors who were captured had their hair shingled by the enemy (314). She cried and shook her head with anguish but as her thick braids were cut she then lost her spirit (315). Zitkala ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Themes In Tao Te Ching The ideas presented in the Tao Te Ching are similar to those of the Bhagavadgita in many ways. There is an emphasis on ridding oneself of worldly desires so that one can have self control over their own senses since Conquering yourself is true strength (Addiss, Page 33). The Tao suggests that creating order can be good, as long as one eventually allows the creation to undergo its own journey and not try to dictate it. Give birth and do not possess. Excel but do not rule (Addiss, Page 10). There are numerous references about what makes a good ruler in the Tao. I do nothing and people transform themselves. I enjoy serenity and people govern themselves (Addiss, Page 57). The idea that when people are left to themselves they eventually are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This quote shows that one can spend their whole life serving a master, but at the end of life, it is not enough to follow the rules set by those above one, but one must feel as if they attained and followed their own moral standards. The theme present in the Tao and the Bhagavadgita that entails forsaking worldly possessions and desires would create a more group oriented mentality and would allow all humans a basic standard of living. Instead of having an extreme wage gap between classes, all people could have their necessities provided for. • 17. The Unexamined Life Of Socrates Sanha Ryoo PHIL 127 Paper 1 02 October 2014 The Unexamined Life Through several dialogues Plato gives readers accounts of Socrates interactions with other Athenians. While some may think of him as a teacher of sorts, Socrates is adamant in rejecting any such claim (Plato, Apology 33a b). He insists that he is not a teacher because he is not transferring any knowledge from himself to others, but rather assisting those he interacts with in reaching the truth. This assistance is the reason Socrates walks around Athens, engaging in conversation with anyone that he can convince to converse with him. An assertion he makes at his trial in Plato s Apology is at the center of what drives Socrates in his abnormal ways, the unexamined life is not worth living for a human being (38a). Socrates, through aporia, looks to lead an examined life to perfect his soul and live as the best person he can be. This paper looks to examine the unexamined life and the implications rooted in living a life like Socrates . First, it is important to analyze what examination entails exactly, because one must understand what something is before inspecting the why . Jumping to the why before knowing exactly what the thing one is examining is would be irresponsible. How can one make a judgment about something without properly comprehending what it is? In Plato s dialogues, Socrates questions the person he is in dialogue with to show that the person does not actually have the knowledge he claims to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Volunteering here was very rewarding as I was able to provide care for cats and dogs who may never get adopted. This consisted of wiping the outside of the kennels and replacing the catlitter boxes so the cats would have a clean place to use. I also cleaned the inside of the kennels and provided them with water and food. Through this process I began meeting the cats as they would approach me to see what was going on. In an attempt to meet the cat s telos I got to spend time grooming and socializing the animals in an effort to make them more sociable which would make them more adoptable. I also provided the dogs with the opportunity to get out of their small enclosure and to feel the grass underneath their paws. While speaking to one of the workers I was told that the animals do not get to come out of their kennels to often because, since the shelter is a nonprofit shelter they depend a lot on the donations from the public. Which means that they can only hire the exact amount of people that will help perform the necessary duties but they lack the extra help that can help with taking the dogs out or grooming the cats. For this reason, they depend greatly on the community to go in and volunteer. Animal shelters and the community The Bakersfield SPCA is one of the smallest shelters within Bakersfield. They depend greatly on the community to help sponsor animals. This means that the community members, depending on the type of animal, will provide a starting kit which include food, bedding, and a scratching post to the adopters. The animals who were sponsor by the community are cats that are older or have been at the shelter longer than the rest. This is a form of trying to save as many animals as possible by defining the animal as a shelter mascot (3/28/2017). Which will give those animals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The sea has an average depth of 4,900 feet, but the deepest point is in the Calypso Deep in the Ionian Deep, having recorded 17,280 feet. It is bordered by 25 coastlines and is split into seven subdivisions of which are the Aegean, Adriatic, Ionian, Tyrrhenian, Ligurian, Balearic, and Alboran seas. NHS has undergone many changes since its inception in 1948 and it has become a clichГ© to say that only thing which is constant in the NHS is change. There are many drivers of these changes the external and internal, the patient led, the policy led and also the changes driven by politics (Buchanan et al, 2013) and finances (DOH, 2010). This essay will critically analyse models of change and how they are relevant to my organisation (NHS). This essay will also critically evaluate human dimensions of change and how they impact on success and implementation of organisational change. Why NHS (National Health Service) Organisations Need Change? Usually a need to change a service is identified, based on feed back from staff or patients, though there are numerous examples in the NHS when the managers or ministers (Darzi, 2008, Francis 2013) were forced to take decisions because of critical incidents or massive failure noted by an external review of an NHS Trust (Francis, 2013, Berwick, 2013). Lord Darzi s (2008) NHS Next Stage Review described a model of clinician led change leadership in the NHS (The King Fund, 2011), by doing so Lord Darzi aspired to provide frontline staff with greater freedom to make positive changes to deliver best quality of care. In a multilayered and complex organisation like NHS usually big changes are driven by national level policies or enquiries (Simon, 1979). Yet, it was on one of these perilous journeys that I had discovered a treasure so grand, that it has been embedded in my thoughts ever since. A treasure so grand that it couldn t be found anywhere else. A treasure so valuable that it could never be taken elsewhere to be cherished forever. My breath was frozen in the air as a dead silence surrounded me. A light fog covered the muddy trail since I began my hike. The drizzling rain only added to the gloomy and haggard feeling. My boots were pressed against the ground, slowly sinking into the damp earth. The faint knocking of bamboo could be heard growing louder. Someone or something was approaching me. Being the curious and careless child I was, I left the trail to approach the patch of bamboo. The rugged terrain of the trail pulled at my sore feet, and the wind whistled and whispered in my ears, as it was warning me not to leave. But, I continued to trudge forward into the unknown. The bamboo was bendy enough for my weak arms to push as I approached the knocking noise. Slowly I took cautious steps to avoid the broken and fallen pieces of bamboo scattered across the ground. As I was about to take my next step, a person s foot came slamming down into the ground! I stumbled backward, crashing onto the ground! Suddenly, a figure broke through the cluster of bamboo. As I looked up, out stepped a figure familiar to me. It was my father! His confusion expression became that of relief as he helped up from the ground. He told me to follow him back to the trail he was on. My dad and I cut through the stalks of bamboo once again until we reached a trail similar to previous. We continued to follow the trail was a maze of lush greenery and foliage. The trail twisted and curved. It was unknown to me, yet so familiar to my dad, I thought as I continued hiking in amazement. The Last Emperor, directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, shows the life of Pu Yi from when he enters the Forbidden City at age three to become emperor of China, to his final days as a reformed man. The film, although it showed how Chinawas during the Qing Dynasty in a fairly honest light, also had its downfalls. Many problems plagues the last years of the Qing Dynasty, such as the Republic Revolutions, opium, warlords, and the confusing relationship with Japan and it s government during this time. In the film warlords were almost a constant mention, but it was never fully disclosed who warlords were or what their purpose was during the dramatic changes in China. The Warlord Period, which was happening during Pu Yi s time as a figurehead, not as an emperor, was a time of despair. Until the middle of the 1920s the warlords were a problem to the country of China. They became a danger because they now were the possessors of modern weapons, which united them with their suppliers, the Western powers, and gave them command and money and resources. The Last Emperor merely mentions warlords in the film and leaves the viewer questioning why these people are such a burden to China and what exactly they were doing to cause problems. Mr Joseph Bruce Ismay was a wealthy businessman who built ships. Mr. Ismay made it away from this tragedy because of his wealth. An icebergalong with the crew s ignorance and unreadiness caused the R.M.S Titanic to sink to the depths; however, Mr. Ismay along with other wealthy people along with some poor made it out alive. • 38. Heidegger Lecture 2 and 3 of What Is Called Thinking Sarah Oliver Presentation Heidegger April 19, 2012 In Lecture I of Part II, Heidegger points out that asking the question of What is called thinking can be incredibly diverse and complicated because there is not just one explanation for the question, although at a glance it seems pretty simple to explain. He stresses four ways in which the question can be posed. The first way asks what is designated by the word thinking, the second asks what logic has to do with thought, the third asks what the prerequisites are for thinking, and the final question is what actually commands and provokes us to think? It seems that thinking is like baking a cake for Heidegger, no ingredient is more important than the other, just like no question ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the question: What is called thinking? is reconsidered in Heidegger terms, it might better be read as asking, What is it that invites or instructs or directs us into thinking? or in Heidegger s own words, What is it that appeals to us to think? By asking this question, the thinker becomes the object of the action, the one who is invited into thinking and the action is less about defining what thinking is than in discovering how it is that the pathway into thinking is opened for us. In Lecture II, Heidegger focuses his attention on the word thinking and what is considered thought provoking. Thinking is a telling and speaking of language. Literature is often used as a medium for both science and poetry and for that reason there is some confusion between what is actually thought provoking. The three should be separated. There is science, there is thought, and there is poetry and the difference between poetry and science is that poetic work is a work of our language much like thinking is, although thinking does not make poetry. Thought and poesy are related because they never just use language as a means of expression, they are the actual makers of language and the final speech. We view science as thinking because we are immersed in it throughout our everyday lives. Car companies are trying to make cars more efficient and doctors are trying to figure out how to cure cancer. Notice the obvious shift of observations from just under expected levels of income to just over expected levels, showing evidence of earnings management. Dechow et al. (2000) focus on firms with positive earnings and firms with zero forecast error to evaluate whether firms manipulate accruals and special items to beat the zero earnings benchmark. Roychowdhury (2006) derived normal levels of cash flow from operations, discretionary expenses and production costs; then tested the effect of sales manipulation, discretionary expenditures and overproduction on the abnormal of the previous three variables. His research found that directors use the various RM activities to manipulate earnings, however it is unclear just how much can be attributed to the purpose of meeting expectations, and how much is to simply control expenses during times of difficulty. Grahama, Harvey and Rajgopalc (2004) interviewed over 400 executives, revealing that executives assign a high level of priority in meeting target earnings as it builds credibility with the market and multiplies the positive effect, confirming previous research. The executives also believed failing to meet the targets would result in a severe market reaction and that directors sacrifice economic value to avoid these effects, avoiding a potentially larger economic loss. This can also be said of achieving or beating expectations, where the potential economic gain from the multiplied positive market effect can easily outweigh the economic sacrifice. Equipped with these justifications, over 80% of those surveyed admitted they were willing to sacrifice economic value and use RM to meet expectations. Moreover, the executives acknowledged that RM is more widespread and favoured to the manipulation of accounting methods, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It must neither be over allegorized as it was by the early church fathers, nor reduced to a simplistic meaning hardly worthy of Jesus teaching. Ruth wants her son to understand hardship so that he grows up with the determination to succeed out of his lower class status. Walter also feels this way, but oftentimes counteracts Ruth s efforts as he strives to prove he can sufficiently provide for his son. An example of this conflict is Ruth refusing to give Travis fifty cents which is later overruled by Walter when he gives Travis one dollar. These include keeping the fuel and engine warm, for the driver s resting comfort, to mask out other noises, and for safety (Keller). Unfortunately, while they are idling, the engine is consuming diesel fuel at a time when oil prices are at their highest. It has been calculated that every hour a truck idles unnecessarily is equivalent to 8 10 miles of on road driving (Keller). Although it is necessary for the drivers to idle, it has been a major concern in terms of wasted fuel within the trucking industry, costing them 3 billion gallons of fuel every year. Several different technologies have been introduced to combat the wasted fuel and reduce or eliminate truck idling times. One such advancement is an electrified parking space (EPS) for the drivers.
