Similarities Between Blood Diamond And The Constant Gardener
The films Blood Diamond and The Constant Gardener both represent the relatively recent shift of
modern film making towards depicting Africa centric story lines in order to spread awareness of
issues such as corruption and exploitation to American and European audiences. However, the
portrayal of Africa in these two movies in particular, should be carefully considered, as these
movies may present the more stereotypical Africarather than the truth.
A good example of the stereotypical representation of Africans is Solomon Vandi from Blood
Diamond. Throughout the movie, he is portrayed as the know nothing black man that has a good
goal, which is that of trying to find and rescue his son, but has no idea how to function outside his
little rural village. Danny Archer, on the other hand, is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sequence in question is Danny Archer s conversation with Maddy as he is dying. In this
scene we see perfectly depicted the two factions of Africa: Archer is shown in so called rural
Africa, a place punctuated throughout the film with bright, vibrant colours and large expanses
of dry, sandy plane. Here Archer realises he belongs, and to the viewer, this realisation is
emphasised by the use of continuous back and forth cuts between where Archer lies and where
Maddy sits, as Maddy s surroundings are starkly different. Although Maddy is still in Africa, she
is shown in a city so modern it is given the same grey scale that is attributed to Western cities. The
stark contrast in colour therefore makes the viewer realise the contrast between the two views of
Africa, and serves as a meaningful conclusion to Archer s on going battle to get out of rural

Full Metal Jacket Movie Essay
Kubrick s Message Stanley Kubrick the director of Full Metal Jacket, left many classmates
speechless, including me. Throughout the movie Full Metal Jacket gives us a meaningful
experience of the Vietnam war. By using our critical thinking and media skills we can often
evaluate what the director is demonstrating and what message he s trying to project. The way the
scenes and scripts are structured can often give us a grip of what Kubrick wants us to perceive.
By analyzing this production it is obvious that he tries to notify the audience about the drawbacks
of Vietnam and any other war; where casualties involve. The way Kubrick begins the movie s
storyline by presenting an anti war perspective. He establishes the movie off with a scene where
five men are getting a hair cut. Thanks to the soundtrack, the barber is portrayed as cheerful man
that s just doing his job peacefully. When observing a great amount of hair being cut, you think
wow at least their hair could have been kept to preserve their identity . This causes the audience to
think of all the major adjustments that come with the responsibility of protecting one s country. As
you continue watching the movie you realize that there is nothing left... Show more content on

Analysis Of Fools Rush In By Bill Carter
The novel Fools Rush In by Bill Carter deliver a vivid portrayal of the love, fear, and empathy all
while promoting an awareness of the geo political reality that was the Bosnian War. Within this
memoir, Bill Carter is in his twenties and joins a caravan of misfits delivering food to Sarajevo
and other spots in Bosnia during the ethnic conflict. He s not a journalist or a soldier, just a man
trying to both remember and forget his past in his journey to self reconciliation. Bills journey
begins with the realization that going through life merely living isn t the same as being. All the
while, Bill allows for the reader bear witness of the siege of Sarajevowhile trying to make sense of
the conflict himself. Carter begins his story with a quote by Milan Kundera that states that
Living, there is no happiness in that. Living: carrying one s painful self through the world. But,
being is happiness. In his journey he seeks to find out was it means to achieve this state of being
and to not merely live in pain. A key to achieving this state of being is human interaction. People
are what both break down and build up a person s life. Accepting that this human interaction is
necessary in order to grow and heal is what allows Carter to reconcile his life and find peace in his
present state. Bill Carter is transformed throughout the novel due to the people he meets who help
to guide him towards self acceptance and meaning.
Though Bill claims that in this journey we call life, we are ultimately alone , it is clear that as
he allows for people to enter his life, and this notion of loneliness becomes a state of mind rather
than an actual reality (p. 207). But a conflict arises again and again throughout Bill s journey as
there s disconnect with the people he attempts to connect with. Unlike his local friends, Bill is
an American that has the privilege that none of the citizens in Sarajevo really have the privilege
to leave Sarajevo. Even when he is sleeping on the floor of the towers with an empty stomach and
the sound of artillery overhead he still can t shake the feeling that he is somehow like the war
tourists he despises so much (p. 107). In Sarajevo there was no time for grief or complex thoughts ,

Horror
Carrie is a story about a girl who has never fit in at school. All the other kids were always mean to
her. They ether never thought of her feelings, or didn t care. One day, in the girls locker room, the
teasing got out of hand. This time, a teacher caught them. This time, revenge was in order. At least,
that s what Chris Hargensen thought. The punishment for their crime, no prom. Chris wasn t going
down without a fight, but she sure went down. When a vicious prank is pulled on Carrie at the
dance, she snaps and unleashes he telegenic power on all the kids, teachers, parents, and the rest of
the town. The town will burn with Carrie s revenge, but will she burn with it?
Carrie White Carrie is the main character (you can tell by the title), but I would also say she is
partially the antagonist. Her mother raised her to be very religious and told her almost
everything she did was a sin. When Carrie wasn t like the other kids, they made fun of her. When
they would make fun of her, she got mad. And when she got mad, bad things happened. Carrie
learned she had telekinesis. The older she got the more interested she became in her power, so she
learned to control it. But a horribly treated girl and a dangerous power don t mix.
Sue Snell Susan Snell is the perfect girl every parent wants as their daughter. Good grades, nice to
everyone at school, and very pretty and popular. But when the teasing broke out in the locker room
she joined in.

Prisoner s Dilemma Examples
For the purpose of this discussion, I will discuss situations like the prisoner dilemma, in which
rational self interested people all do worse by independently pursuing self interest. The prisoner s
dilemma refers to a conflict in doing what is best for one s own interest over what is in the best
interest of the group; therefore, doing what is needed to receive the least amount of jail time for
oneself. In the end, each of the prisoners does better by failing to cooperate, but not as good if they
had just cooperated with their agreement between each other and stayed silent. This type of
dilemma happens throughout all of society between individuals, groups, companies, and countries.
An example includes groups over fishing, thereby, depleting... Show more content on

Ben Wally Already I know we are going to have so much fun (and drama) with these two. I kind

brothers, I actually made Wallace purposly older by a year just so I could see him play that I m

their relationship, a nice balance of the two. I could totally see them meeting on the streets and
connecting over their long nights of busking, maybe laughing about their experince with tourists.
Being both from immigrant families, maybe they could even connect over that despite two
different cultures. Maybe they end up spicing the busking street up by combining the sound of
trumpet and violin, adding something new to the streets of jazz. They might not completely
relate on the level of discrimination but they could ceartainly talk about injustices over a couple

pessimistically talks about how hard work never gets him anywhere. I think what also might be

busking territory , in fact maybe thats how they

Comparison between Afternoons and An Arundel Tomb
Comparison between Afternoons and An Arundel Tomb
Both of Larkin s poems explore the loss of identity however they do so in different contexts.
Afternoons depicts the continuation of life and subsequent passing of time through illustration of
changing roles from a relatively carefree character to a young mother who must fully adopt this new
identity and the life changes the title entails. The leaves fall in ones and twos is representative of
the gradual nature of this changing identity which contrasts to the relatively significant transition
the young mother experiences. However leaves is use of natural imagery therefore suggesting this
shift of priorities to becoming a mother is hardly a rare, dramatic occurrence. Our Wedding,... Show

Alternatively Afternoons immediately begins with the pessimistic sentence summer is fading
which firstly depicts the somewhat saddening time as the positivity commonly associated with the
warm season starts to disappear and head towards a darker time. This can be interpreted to represent
the vanishing love between husband and wife as the lovers change to husbands in skilled trades and
young mothers which suggests the arrival of children to be burdening or disliked which is true to
Larkin s somewhat pessimistic style. Behind them and Before them are featured at the beginning
and the end of the second stanza, implying a sense of entrapment experienced by the mothers as
they re unable to escape the mundane, domestic situation they now find themselves in therefore
relating to the empty image illustrated by the hollows of afternoons
Larkin also comments on the future in the final stanza s of both poems. In An Arundel Tomb what
will survive us all is love implies that as long as the tomb endures then so with the couple s love
subsequently keeping them alive in people s minds. In contrast to this optimism unusual for Larkin
the quote may also suggest that the effigies are just that, there is no immortality provided by
eternal love as they ve still died and this predicament is a

May Day Riot Of 1517 Essay
Throughout the Early Modern World , a huge variety of factors such as economic, environmental,
social and political meant for a shift in culture which in turn provoked protest throughout the period.
There was a common split in communities and the divide was simple; those that feared change and
wanted aspects of life to stay the same and those that favoured the shift into a more modern era.
Historians therefore have debated whether or not protestsduring this period were due to a growing
sense of community, or that an expression of community was simply a by product of other reasons
for protestsuch as economic discontent or xenophobic attacks on foreigners. Historian Julius R.
Ruff states that a community often closed ranks in the face of... Show more content on

Joseph P. Ward reinforces the immaturity and potential recklessness of the apprentices by stating
that apprentices were bridging the gap between kids and adults, adolescence . Thus again taking
weight away from the protests themselves and suggesting that they were more of a common
rebellion than a serious political movement challenging for change. One must therefore reinforce
the statement that the Evil
May Day Riot of 1517 was indeed due to wider factors and not primarily an expression of
community. In conclusion, the protest that took place in 1517 was indeed instigated by
xenophobic leaders that utilised foreign workers as scapegoats and within the protest one could
argue that there were some aspects of community. Having said this, the protest was clearly a by
product of economic and social discontent that did not represent the whole community at all. A
thousand apprentice labourers looting and destroying foreign worker s property partly due to their
hatred of foreign aliens and partly due to wanting to selfishly climb the social ladder does not
express the sense of community and thus, one must conclude that the May Day riot was indeed a
clear product of wider

Theme Of All My Sons By Joe Keller
There is nothing ruthless about Joe, no hint of the robber baron in his make up , his ambitions are
small a comfortable home for his family, a successful business to pass on to his sons, but he is not
completely fastidious in achieving his goals.
Joe Keller is the most important character in the play, All My Sons.
Miller who wrote All My Sons with human understanding but moral sinew as well as dramaturgy
summarised his theme, John Gossner says as, the responsibility of man to society or the
responsibility to the world and outside his home as well as in his own home .
Joe Keller is a social, amiable man with a strong sense of humour.

Dbq Essay On Reconstruction
Reconstruction was a time of culture shift and intolerance in American society. Many white
Americans were opposed to the idea of being equal to another person of a different color or
ethnicity. As a result of the civil war, about 600,000 were dead. Also after the war the 13th
amendment was passed which abolished slavery, the 14th amendment gave blacks American
citizenship and civil rights, and the 15th amendment made it illegal to deny the someone the right
to vote based on race .The term reconstruction means rebuild; Reconstruction was a plan to rebuild

Awakening Essay
When Kate Chopin s The Awakening was published at the end of the 19th Century, many
reviewers took issue with what they perceived to be the author s defiance of Victorian proprieties,
but it is this very defiance with which has been responsible for the revival in the interest of the
novel today. This factor is borne out by Chopin s own words throughout her Prefacewhere she
indicates that women were not recipients of equal treatment. (Chopin, Preface ) Edna takes her own
lifeat the book s end, not because of remorseover having committed adultery but because she can
no longer struggle against the social conventions which deny her fulfillment as a person and as a

When Edna finally resolved to end her life it is not because she has been rejected by Robert but
because she can no longer lead the type authentic life which to her is the only life worth living, and
this is the result of the denial of equal rights to women by the society of that day.
Chopin has clearly taken care to anticipate criticisms that her suicide would leave the children
motherless by having her recently visit the children to find that they really had no need of her
and are perfectly content with the grandmother. In having Edna reflect that she would never
sacrifice herself for her children, Chopin was not arguing so much in defense of selfish ness as
against the view that a mother could be expected to deny her own freedom for the sake the
children in a manner that was not expected of the father. Thus, women s struggle is synonymous
with Edna s suicide as well as the events leading up to it. Edna plays a significant role in this story.
Overall, I personally construed K.
Chopin s novel as a repudiation of prevailing mores which govern women s behavior during that
period in time. Edna was an outsider. She did not comprehend that the personal freedoms she saw
all about her were well defined within a construct of old established social conventions,

African Influence On Hip Hop
Reggie Garcia
November 2nd, 2016
Music of Africa
African Influence in Hip Hop In the 1970s the shockwave that would be known as hip hop rose
from the economic situation of New York City, especially the black and Latino neighborhoods.
However, while hip hop music was born in the Bronx, it both is part of and speaks to a long line
of black American and African cultural traditions. Many observers also make a connection between
rap and West African griot tradition, the art of wandering storytellers known for their knowledge of
local settings and superior vocal skills. Additionally, rhymed verses are an important part of African
American culture in both the public and private realms. A great influence of rap and hip hop which

This African term is defined as rapping or fast pace speaking. This can involve rhyming patterns
or jokingly clowning or making fun of one another. This is where America gets the term
Roasting from and many know it as verbal battle between individuals mostly for entertainment
and fun. For its musical grooves, early hip hop incorporated elements of the party based sound
system subculture popular at the time in Jamaica. DJ Kool Herc also brought a form of the
verbal art of toasting to his parties. Jamaican DJs excited crowds by making up short raps to the
beat of music, adding vibes to the party. The toasts often referred to people in the crowd or to
events at the party itself. Dodd took rapping to Jamaica and Herc brought toasting back to the
United States, where it quickly became known as rap, the verbal side of hip hop music.
Afrika Bam Bambaataa fused the R B music of James Brown, the funk of George Clinton, and
even the sometimes synthetic and cold European electronic music of groups like Kraftwerk to
create songs like Planet Rock and Looking for the Perfect Beat, and helped deepen the musical
roots of hip hop as a

Blues Music In Sterling Brown s Ma Rainey
In Sterling Brown s Ma Rainey, Brown describes the significance of blues music in rural black
culture. Using dialect and rhythm, Brown manages to show the way blues music reaches its
intended audience without breaking from the language said audience would use to describe this. In
this way, Brown creates a poem which does not simply describe its subject, but celebrates it fully,
and associates itself not with white literature describing black Americans but with what could be
called black American literature. Brown s poem is in exactly the style Langston Hughes advocates
for in The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain; praising rather than neglecting black American
culture, using aspects which may be considered oddities in comparison to Nordic ... Show more

The blues singer in Ma Rainey has an almost mystical quality to her as she manages to soothe
everyone for miles aroun (Brown, Stanza I, line 4) with her songs. Hughes mentions the richness
jazz and blues add to lower class black culture, and how the middle and upper class black
Americans tend to turn away from blues as a signifier of the race they wish to leave behind. Brown
celebrates blues as a way of connecting people, and of giving them something to hold onto as
they battle the hardships associated with not being white in America. While those who wish to
be white spurn blues music as too black, Brown proves in his poem that blues is an essential
way of bringing people together. He paints a picture of its immense impact when he describes
the listeners crying together as Ma Rainey sings. This, in turn, serves as a call to other black
artists to stop trying to break away from their race, as it invokes a sense of belonging. All the
people who come watch Ma Rainey sing belong to a community of rural black Americans, and
from this community they do face adversity, yet scenes like the one described in Ma Rainey
show that there is also a positive takeaway from being a part of it. In the earlier mentioned
segment from the third stanza, Brown s use of direct address sets up Ma Rainey as an
omniscient, almost godlike figure. The speaker, and presumably the reader included in the speaker

own culture may find meaning in it, which speaks to Hughes invocation for artists to Let the blare
of Negro jazz bands and the bellowing voice of Bessie Smith singing the Blues penetrate the closed
ears of the colored near intellectuals until they listen and perhaps understand,

I Admire My Own Leadership Style
Leaders are all around us. They come in all shapes and sizes, gender, ethnicities, and religions.
Mother Teresa is a catholic nun who committed her life to working with the poor throughout the
world and is a leader I admire. Her leadership approach, purpose in life, and values are evident in
her humanitarian work and are traits I want to emulate in developing my own leadershipstyle.
On August 26, 1910 Mother Teresawas born in Skopje, Macedonia with the name Agnes Gonxha
Bojaxhiu. Not much is known about her early life, but when she was only 8 years old, Agnes
father suddenly died and she grew much closer to her mother. Agnes mother was a
compassionate woman who greatly cared for others and had an open invitation for people of the
city to eat in her home. When Agnes asked why people were eating with them, her mother
responded, Some of them are our relations, but all of them are our people. The attitude of Agnes
mother and her care towards others as Agnes grew up is likely what inspired her in her future
endeavors. At age twelve Agnes was convinced that she should commit herself to a religious life
and at eighteen years old set off to Ireland to join the Sisters of Loreto in Dublin and became a
nun. It was there that she took the name Sister Mary Teresa. Shortly after, she was sent to
Calcutta, India where she was assigned and dedicated to teaching girls from the city s poorest
families at Saint Mary s High School for Girls. During this time, Sister Teresa learned to

Birth Tourism and China
Why would a city not want to promote tourism? Tourism helps attract foreign investments and
therefore contribute tremendously to the economy. In fact, tourism is one of the main sources of
income for Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). According to a recent study by
market research firm Euromonitor, Hong Konghas been named the world s most desirable travel
destination for international visitors with a number of 23.8 million visitors. However, if that figure
is broken down by geographic zones, Chinese tourists account for 63.5%. Mainland visitors have
always been playing a huge role in tourism in Hong Kong and they are the ones Hong Kong citizens
feel resentful towards mainly because of birth tourism. Local residents have felt that the medical
system is already operating at its capacity. Demonstrations on streets are not uncommon with
citizens wanting the government to take action against such tourism, I believe that Hong Kong
government should still welcome Chinese tourists since Mainland visitors have been contributing
significantly to Hong Kong s inbound tourism, however the government should put a ban on birth
tourism.
Apart from being famous for its shopping and food paradise, Hong Kong is also widely known
as a former British colony. It was not until July 1, 1997 that Hong Kong was returned to and has
remained as a special administration region of the People s Republic of China. Even so, Hong Kong
is very different from mainland China in many ways, such

The Death Of Common Sense, By Philip K. Howard
You will be surprised to learn that using simple common sense can take us a long way towards
happiness and thriving in life. But we also know that common sense is, sometimes the most
uncommon thing. Again, using common sense requires some thinking on our part and we forget or
refuse to do that because of ignorance, negligence or stubbornness.
I recently read a book called The Death of Common Sense, by Philip K. Howard. It is a book about
the system of governmental regulations and how it is suffocating America. The author argues that
although we have a democratic system in this country, the laws and statutes that we have created
are actually stifling people rather than making them grow.
Speaking of democracy, we Americans think that we have the greatest democracy in the world. I
think what we have is plutocracy, a political system influenced and run by wealthy in dividuals and
corporations. By its decision on Citizens United v. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As U.S. Senator, Elizabeth Warren correctly argues, today the game is rigged rigged to work for
those who have money and power.29
The Death of Common Sense provides many stories of how bureaucratic rigidity, ineffec tive
regulation, and overly complex procedures and rules have superseded good judgment and
common sense. For example, the book begins with the story of an abandoned building in New
York City that was sold to the Sisters of Mother Theresa for one dollar, to make it into a home less
shelter.
The code required that the building should have an elevator. It would cost the Sisters an extra
$100,000. The Sisters were willing to use the stairs; the homeless people wouldn t have really
cared whether there was an elevator, as long as they had a place to sleep. The irony is that it
would cost $100,000 for an elevator for a building that they paid one dollar for. The city wouldn t
budge. And the Sisters had to abandon the

a monument that was meant to honor and salute the heroes of Paris who took part in the

monument was still able to be installed in Verdun in the 19th century to show appreciation to
the French soldiers of World War I. When you look closely at this sculpture you will see a female
who has wings and to me this symbolizes an angel, she is over top of a warrior of some sort who
seems hurt or wounded, possibly dead. This female may be his guardian angel or something. The
lady with wings seems to be screaming because her mouth is wide open , I am not sure if this is a

Parallax error is indeterminate/uncertain It is minimized by proper positioning of the eyes by the
student when making the readings or measurements. Instrumental error This error is also
indeterminate. It is caused by imperfect calibration of the measurement instruments, e.g the burette,
pipette and volumetric flask. This is because these instruments are manufactured by mass
production methods, which pose high chance for certain inaccuracies. This error is minimized by
use of instruments of higher precision. Averaging of the titres obtained also minimizes the error.
Contamination/Impurity of reagents This error may have risen due to the use of unclean
apparatus, like the volumetric flask, pipette, conical flasks and the burette. It arose in the
experiment especially due to improper cleaning of the conical flask after a titration and before the
next. It is minimized by thorough cleaning of the experimental apparatus before use.
Contamination also arises from presence of impurities in the various reagents provided. Oxalic
acid usually contains impurities of calcium and potassium oxalates which may have interfered
with its reaction with sodium hydroxide. The oxalic acid also may have contained some amount
of moisture before weighing leading to an error in mass. Such errors are minimized by storing the
substance in a dessicator for a few hours before use so as to remove the moisture.

Murdoch s News International owns 50% of BSKYB.
BSKYB/ Sky news was the first of its kind and revolutionised the television industry, never
before had you been able to access current news stories from your television set 24 hours a day.
However the British population seemed uninterested in the early 1990 s and it wasn t until the mid
to late 1990 s that BSKYB started to make a profit. But in 1998 approximately 6.2million homes
had access to Sky News either through satellite or cable.
Up until the launch of BSKYB the television industry had been mainly dominated by the BBC.
Rupert Murdoch changed that and the television industry became and still is dominated by
commercial television in particular satellite and cable. We then had access to a huge number of
channels for both news and entertainment. This meant that people felt they had a greater choice in
what they watched For example sport, people who particularly enjoyed baseball were now able to
access a baseball match, and the viewer would feel as though they were taking part in a shared
experience. This is something the viewer would not be able to do with terrestrial television. In 1996
SKY decided to introduce the first pay per view and charged their customers to watch the Bruno vs
Tyson fight. People paid for this because they felt that what they were receiving was an exclusive
sports showing. Rupert

Gentrification In Washington Heights
Gentrification has disadvantages on housing but may lead to healthier outcomes for the residents.
The Department of Health surveyed the community s smoking, diet and physical activity, which
are risks factors for a variety of health problems like high blood pressure. It was concluded that
Washington Heights had 12% smokers, which is lower than New York s average. However, 31%
of community members consume multiple drinks with high sugar content on a daily basis and are
less likely to perform physical activity. The rate of stroke hospitalization, is higher in Washington

It was activists from the wealthy and poor blocks that organized to reduce crime. These tenant
activists involved city agencies and lending organizers to work to create a better a community
(Snyder, 2015). The residences formed a relationship with their local police to implement social
control that worked this its environment. They identified the need for formal social control as
informal social control activism was not enough. The community began to bridge the gap between
policy and the neighborhood. Through community activism, Washington Heights continued to see a
decline in crime and the start of gentrification. Today, Washington Heights has one of the lowest
crime rates in New York Cityand the borough of Manhattan (NYC Police, 2017). The community
s relationship with the New York City Police Department is not perfect. Areas that are
predominantly people of color or lower socioeconomic status do face barriers in working with
police. However, this is not an isolated issue as most of the country, especially people of color,
have a negative relationship with police members. It seems to be a systemic problem within the
police and how social control should be enforced. Washington Heights is an example of how
communities and law enforcement can come together to change a neighborhood. Washington
Heights is a community that serves and is shaped by the residences as it is home to many

The Western Bank Of The Bosporus
On the western bank of the Bosporus, just north of a sinuous waterway known by locals as the

Already Cristoforo could make out a wall that stretched along the horizon, which only grew in
immensity as they drew closer. Its limestone blocks soaring into the sky, the Theodosian Wall (as
John informed him) appeared far more imposing than any fortification he had witnessed in the
West. When they approached its base, though, he soon noticed the heavy damage dealt to the
rampart. The Ottomans laid siege to the city this spring. John said. I heard they acquired cannons
for the first time, but the defenders were able to fend off their assault after a prolonged battle.
While entering the Golden Gate, the main entrance to the capital, Cristoforo could not help but
ponder the fashion of his mapping: should he emphasize the wall s massive scale, or its wounded
state? What exactly could be accomplished by either? ... His thoughts, however, were cut short by

Penetration Pricing This is a marketing strategy used by firms to attract customers to a new
product or service. Penetration pricing is the practice of offering a low price for a new product

reasoning behind this marketing strategy is that customers will buy and become aware of the new
product due to its lower price in the marketplace relative to rivals. It can often increase both market
share and sales volume. Additionally, the high sales volume can also lead to lower production costs

The Formation Of A Contract
A contract is an agreement between people or legal entities (such as corporations) in which one
party agrees to perform a service or provide goods in exchange for the payment of money or
other goods or services. A binding, legally enforceable contract can be in writing or oral. The
formation of a contract is accomplished when there is an offer and acceptance between the
contracting parties of the exchange of consideration, something of value. This offer and acceptance
are occasionally referred to as a meeting of the minds. If the parties have not reached a meeting of
the minds, then there is no agreement.

Masculinity In Medea
Throughout the Greek tragedy Medea, many characters have acted in a way that proves Foucault
s idea that power controls us. Medea lacks true freedom and the men in this Greek tragedy say
that being a woman is easy, but it s very challenging. Medea attempts to play the role of men and
performs traditional roles of masculinity, but cannot fully fulfill the role because of her status as a
woman. Foucault would consider Medeato be mimicking the same power elimination that Jasondid.
He was able to get the trust of Medea, by allowing her to slave the dragon, and deceive her father.
Once, he got her trust he then betrayed her. Medea s revenge is dictated by a masculine regime of
truth.
Medea being under a particular regime of truth that is incredibly masculine allows her anger to
turn into revenge and her want for power causes her to think about death. She does not know any
other way; she has learned that this tactic is how you gain power. She says, for I shall kill the

Seco Electronics Company Case Study
Senco Electronics Company (Senco) is a U.S. based manufacturer seeking to evaluate moving its
assembly plant to China. Senco is evaluating the cost of operations when transporting via
electronics products from china to the U.S. via air or maritime. Currently, total estimated costs
for this Case Study are $823,000 for maritime and $800,000 for air with a projected annual
demand of 2.5 million pounds from the new facility. Additionally, the Case Study proposes a
growth of 5 percent annually over the next five years. When considering methods to improve and
benefit from supply chain efficiencies, Senco has taken the first step in identifying its needs in a
competitive market. When looking at today s competitive markets, Coyle identifies that
Globalization is the most frequently citied change factor by business leaders and is the dominant
driving force in world economics (2017). Looking at the prospects of overseas supply chains or
connecting over such a vast distance, technology and the 24/7 online environment can successfully
keep the overseas manufacturing connected to the remainder of the supply chain back in the states.
Also, government policy and regulations are leading cause behind Senco s decision to evaluate the
overseas prospects in the first place. Much like deregulation in the U.S. in the 1970s and 1980s
drove down pricing in areas such as transportation by allowing more competition, similarly the same
principle of overseas competitive environments create

Integrity In The Medical Field
Integrity is a code of values which individuals follow. It means to follow moral and ethical
convictions such as being honest or doing the right thing. Integrity can be applied to many
scenarios including the workplace, the university or our home. For students such as myself, which
are perusing a career in the medical field, integrityhas to be a core valuefor delivering decent
healthcare. In the medical field patients, every day entirely rely on the integrity of their doctors.
By trusting the doctor or any other medical professional they encounter, they expect their medical
records and secrets to be treated with the highest discretion. As a dear friend who practiced
medicine for more than 30 years once told me Doctors know it all, but say

Overpopulation Is Not The Problem
Overpopulation is Not the Problem
As we sailed into the new millennium, humans crossed a threshold never before witnessed in our
species. We flew past the 6 billion mark in number. This is an impressive figure, but not one that
we can easily appreciate, unless we are Bill Gates or ExxonMobil.
Let s try to understand how incredibly large this number is. Consider that this article has ~9000
letters. Thus, it would take more than 650,000 copies of it to produce enough letters to represent
all humans. Or, put in other terms, consider that if all the humans were to hold hands side by side,
our species would circumscribe the equator nearly 14 times! And perhaps, most horrifying, if we
all were to move to Texas (the 2nd largest state in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Massive starvation, as observed in Ethiopia in 1973 and Bangladesh in 1974, didn t occur because
food wasn t available. These famines, and many others, occurred because large numbers of the
population didn t have sufficient funds to purchase foods, even though food was available hence
a question of distribution not limitation. Current world debts have now reached proportions that
developing countries now spend $13 on debt repayment for every $1 it receives in grants
(Global Issues) an economic climate that makes it extremely difficult for countries to provide
for its citizenry. While some countries, including the United States, store away surplus grain
production as a security blanket, many human beings don t get enough to eat on a regular basis.
In many developing countries, given its rewarding economic payoffs, large landowners harvest
export crops (such as coffee and tobacco) rather than food crops for local people. Also, and
possibly most damning to the reading audience, a diet rich in meat requires nearly ten times the
land than that of a strict vegetarian s diet. Nearly 40 percent of U.S. land is used for grazing
livestock (which accounts for about two thirds of agricultural land). While some of this land is
more fit for free range grazing than vegetable crops, much of it would be many times more
productive if grains were grown rather than quot;meats. quot; In a very interesting study conducted
by the The Union of Concerned

Frederick Law Olmsted Research Paper
You just won a contest! You are very happy and can not wait to share your joy. You are living
what Frederick Law Olmsted engaged in. He had to take part in a designing contest to win the
right to build New York a park, soon to be known as, Central Park. Frederick Law Olmsted was
an impactful and accomplished landscape architect. He showed the world about his works, and
made fantasies of green grass and luscious trees come to a reality. He always made sure that
everything went smoothingly. Frederick s most famous quote was, This is just what I have thought
when I have seen slaves at work they seem to go through the motions of labor without putting
strength into them. They keep their powers in reserve for their own use at night, perhaps. (Frederick

One piece of evidence that shows Olmsted was an accomplished landscape architect is because
Olmsted was good at what he did, as says in the above paragraph. He wins landscaping design
competitions because he is successful and knows what to do and because he and everyone knew
he was a professional. As says Algis Valiunas, Frederick Law Olmsted the grandmaster of
American landscape architecture, felt all the pains of city living and made it his vocation to
relieve them as much as possible (Valiunas). Now, we have a whole new ideaof his architecture, he
feels pains. He felt it was his vocation, to make the city more, livable. It was his calling to make
every place more livable, his eyes saw the sadness, busy streets, yelling from lane to lane.
Olmsted saw the not so peacefulness of the city life. Compare streets of cars and gas, to green
grass and blue skies. This was his tool to change the world, one park at a time. Furthermore,
Olmsted went on to create many beautiful public parks throughout the U.S. and Canada (Phelan).
Soon on, he became unstoppable. He took on honorary jobs and was the first at many things. In
continuation, He lobbied successfully to make Yosemite a national park, ran Commissioned during
the Civil War, cofounded the Nation, and created the first planned suburban community in
America (Fredericksen). However, when time came close. People may not be able to recognize
this name, whether you can, or not, Olmsted was accomplished. For example, Although his name
may not be familiar to youngsters, many of them live in cities have been made more livable by his
work (Phelan). He accomplished cities more livable according to

Why Evolution Is True By Coyne Summary
In his book, Why Evolution is True, Coyne proposes five predictions of evolution and introduces
the idea of retrodictions. Both his prediction of common ancestry in the fossil record and his
retrodiction of vestigial structures can be observed through the lineage of the modern whale.
Creationists can reject this prediction and retrodiction, yet there is enough information disprove
their opinion. The history of whales provides a comprehensive fossil record that presents sufficient
information to explain the prediction and retrodiction introduced by Coyne. It has been discovered
that modern day whales can be traced back many generations, and each one can be considered a
transitional form. Approximately 60 million years ago, a wolf sized mesonychid called a Sinonyx
possessed an elongated muzzle, an enlarged jugular foramen, and a short basicranium (____). The

Creationists have strived to present functions for structures scientist consider vestigial or deny
the existence of them entirely. For example, it is stated on the website Creation Today that there
is no fossil evidence for loss of legs in whales and when referring to hind limbs, is an example of
losing something, not gaining something. They go on to ask, How could losing something help
an organism evolve or be proof that they were evolving? As previously mentioned, there are many
transitional forms of whales, dating back 60 million years ago. These ancestors were capable of
walking, but because of environmental pressures this trait was no longer selected for, creating a
new species. Natural selection in this species, selected for more aquatic like traits, which caused
them to become more refined over time. Losing legs allowed the whales to become completely
aquatic creatures. Losing the hind legs and still having remnants of these structures is undeniable

Autobiography As Performative Utterance
Having read a number of slave narratives this semester (including excerpts from autobiographies by
figures such as Frederick Douglass and Olaudah Equiano), I found it somewhat disconcerting that
Michael BГ©rubГ© conflated slave narratives and disability centered texts in his article,
Autobiography as Performative Utterance. While I understand the point he was trying to make
about a subject s capability to represent themselves through literature, I found the false
equivalencies he was using to make his point were somewhat discomforting. Considering Count Us
In revolves around a white, American, upper class family, it didn t seem particularly appropriate for
BГ©rubГ© to be making the comparisons that he did. I think that his points about autobiography

  • 4. Similarities Between Blood Diamond And The Constant Gardener The films Blood Diamond and The Constant Gardener both represent the relatively recent shift of modern film making towards depicting Africa centric story lines in order to spread awareness of issues such as corruption and exploitation to American and European audiences. However, the portrayal of Africa in these two movies in particular, should be carefully considered, as these movies may present the more stereotypical Africarather than the truth. A good example of the stereotypical representation of Africans is Solomon Vandi from Blood Diamond. Throughout the movie, he is portrayed as the know nothing black man that has a good goal, which is that of trying to find and rescue his son, but has no idea how to function outside his little rural village. In this scene we see perfectly depicted the two factions of Africa: Archer is shown in so called rural Africa, a place punctuated throughout the film with bright, vibrant colours and large expanses of dry, sandy plane. Here Archer realises he belongs, and to the viewer, this realisation is emphasised by the use of continuous back and forth cuts between where Archer lies and where Maddy sits, as Maddy s surroundings are starkly different. Although Maddy is still in Africa, she is shown in a city so modern it is given the same grey scale that is attributed to Western cities. The stark contrast in colour therefore makes the viewer realise the contrast between the two views of Africa, and serves as a meaningful conclusion to Archer s on going battle to get out of rural ... Throughout the movie Full Metal Jacket gives us a meaningful experience of the Vietnam war. By using our critical thinking and media skills we can often evaluate what the director is demonstrating and what message he s trying to project. The way the scenes and scripts are structured can often give us a grip of what Kubrick wants us to perceive. By analyzing this production it is obvious that he tries to notify the audience about the drawbacks of Vietnam and any other war; where casualties involve. The way Kubrick begins the movie s storyline by presenting an anti war perspective. He establishes the movie off with a scene where five men are getting a hair cut. • 8. Analysis Of Fools Rush In By Bill Carter The novel Fools Rush In by Bill Carter deliver a vivid portrayal of the love, fear, and empathy all while promoting an awareness of the geo political reality that was the Bosnian War. Within this memoir, Bill Carter is in his twenties and joins a caravan of misfits delivering food to Sarajevo and other spots in Bosnia during the ethnic conflict. He s not a journalist or a soldier, just a man trying to both remember and forget his past in his journey to self reconciliation. Bills journey begins with the realization that going through life merely living isn t the same as being. All the while, Bill allows for the reader bear witness of the siege of Sarajevowhile trying to make sense of the conflict himself. Carter begins his story with a quote by Milan Kundera that states that Living, there is no happiness in that. Living: carrying one s painful self through the world. But, being is happiness. In his journey he seeks to find out was it means to achieve this state of being and to not merely live in pain. A key to achieving this state of being is human interaction. People are what both break down and build up a person s life. Accepting that this human interaction is necessary in order to grow and heal is what allows Carter to reconcile his life and find peace in his present state. Bill Carter is transformed throughout the novel due to the people he meets who help to guide him towards self acceptance and meaning. Though Bill claims that in this journey we call life, we are ultimately alone , it is clear that as he allows for people to enter his life, and this notion of loneliness becomes a state of mind rather than an actual reality (p. 207). But a conflict arises again and again throughout Bill s journey as there s disconnect with the people he attempts to connect with. Unlike his local friends, Bill is an American that has the privilege that none of the citizens in Sarajevo really have the privilege to leave Sarajevo. Even when he is sleeping on the floor of the towers with an empty stomach and the sound of artillery overhead he still can t shake the feeling that he is somehow like the war tourists he despises so much (p. 107). Comparison between Afternoons and An Arundel Tomb Comparison between Afternoons and An Arundel Tomb Both of Larkin s poems explore the loss of identity however they do so in different contexts. Afternoons depicts the continuation of life and subsequent passing of time through illustration of changing roles from a relatively carefree character to a young mother who must fully adopt this new identity and the life changes the title entails. The leaves fall in ones and twos is representative of the gradual nature of this changing identity which contrasts to the relatively significant transition the young mother experiences. Alternatively Afternoons immediately begins with the pessimistic sentence summer is fading which firstly depicts the somewhat saddening time as the positivity commonly associated with the warm season starts to disappear and head towards a darker time. This can be interpreted to represent the vanishing love between husband and wife as the lovers change to husbands in skilled trades and young mothers which suggests the arrival of children to be burdening or disliked which is true to Larkin s somewhat pessimistic style. Behind them and Before them are featured at the beginning and the end of the second stanza, implying a sense of entrapment experienced by the mothers as they re unable to escape the mundane, domestic situation they now find themselves in therefore relating to the empty image illustrated by the hollows of afternoons Larkin also comments on the future in the final stanza s of both poems. In An Arundel Tomb what will survive us all is love implies that as long as the tomb endures then so with the couple s love subsequently keeping them alive in people s minds. • 13. May Day Riot Of 1517 Essay Throughout the Early Modern World , a huge variety of factors such as economic, environmental, social and political meant for a shift in culture which in turn provoked protest throughout the period. There was a common split in communities and the divide was simple; those that feared change and wanted aspects of life to stay the same and those that favoured the shift into a more modern era. Historians therefore have debated whether or not protestsduring this period were due to a growing sense of community, or that an expression of community was simply a by product of other reasons for protestsuch as economic discontent or xenophobic attacks on foreigners. Ward reinforces the immaturity and potential recklessness of the apprentices by stating that apprentices were bridging the gap between kids and adults, adolescence . One must therefore reinforce the statement that the Evil May Day Riot of 1517 was indeed due to wider factors and not primarily an expression of community. In conclusion, the protest that took place in 1517 was indeed instigated by xenophobic leaders that utilised foreign workers as scapegoats and within the protest one could argue that there were some aspects of community. Having said this, the protest was clearly a by product of economic and social discontent that did not represent the whole community at all. A thousand apprentice labourers looting and destroying foreign worker s property partly due to their hatred of foreign aliens and partly due to wanting to selfishly climb the social ladder does not express the sense of community and thus, one must conclude that the May Day riot was indeed a clear product of wider ... This factor is borne out by Chopin s own words throughout her Prefacewhere she indicates that women were not recipients of equal treatment. When Edna finally resolved to end her life it is not because she has been rejected by Robert but because she can no longer lead the type authentic life which to her is the only life worth living, and this is the result of the denial of equal rights to women by the society of that day. Chopin has clearly taken care to anticipate criticisms that her suicide would leave the children motherless by having her recently visit the children to find that they really had no need of her and are perfectly content with the grandmother. In having Edna reflect that she would never sacrifice herself for her children, Chopin was not arguing so much in defense of selfish ness as against the view that a mother could be expected to deny her own freedom for the sake the children in a manner that was not expected of the father. Thus, women s struggle is synonymous with Edna s suicide as well as the events leading up to it. Edna plays a significant role in this story. Overall, I personally construed K. Using dialect and rhythm, Brown manages to show the way blues music reaches its intended audience without breaking from the language said audience would use to describe this. In this way, Brown creates a poem which does not simply describe its subject, but celebrates it fully, and associates itself not with white literature describing black Americans but with what could be called black American literature. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The blues singer in Ma Rainey has an almost mystical quality to her as she manages to soothe everyone for miles aroun (Brown, Stanza I, line 4) with her songs. Hughes mentions the richness jazz and blues add to lower class black culture, and how the middle and upper class black Americans tend to turn away from blues as a signifier of the race they wish to leave behind. Brown celebrates blues as a way of connecting people, and of giving them something to hold onto as they battle the hardships associated with not being white in America. While those who wish to be white spurn blues music as too black, Brown proves in his poem that blues is an essential way of bringing people together. He paints a picture of its immense impact when he describes the listeners crying together as Ma Rainey sings. This, in turn, serves as a call to other black artists to stop trying to break away from their race, as it invokes a sense of belonging. All the people who come watch Ma Rainey sing belong to a community of rural black Americans, and from this community they do face adversity, yet scenes like the one described in Ma Rainey show that there is also a positive takeaway from being a part of it. In the earlier mentioned segment from the third stanza, Brown s use of direct address sets up Ma Rainey as an omniscient, almost godlike figure. The speaker, and presumably the reader included in the speaker s us, can look to her for solace amidst their struggle. In fact, tourism is one of the main sources of income for Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). According to a recent study by market research firm Euromonitor, Hong Konghas been named the world s most desirable travel destination for international visitors with a number of 23.8 million visitors. However, if that figure is broken down by geographic zones, Chinese tourists account for 63.5%. Mainland visitors have always been playing a huge role in tourism in Hong Kong and they are the ones Hong Kong citizens feel resentful towards mainly because of birth tourism. Local residents have felt that the medical system is already operating at its capacity. But we also know that common sense is, sometimes the most uncommon thing. Again, using common sense requires some thinking on our part and we forget or refuse to do that because of ignorance, negligence or stubbornness. I recently read a book called The Death of Common Sense, by Philip K. Howard. It is a book about the system of governmental regulations and how it is suffocating America. The author argues that although we have a democratic system in this country, the laws and statutes that we have created are actually stifling people rather than making them grow. Speaking of democracy, we Americans think that we have the greatest democracy in the world. For example, the book begins with the story of an abandoned building in New York City that was sold to the Sisters of Mother Theresa for one dollar, to make it into a home less shelter. The code required that the building should have an elevator. It would cost the Sisters an extra $100,000. The Sisters were willing to use the stairs; the homeless people wouldn t have really cared whether there was an elevator, as long as they had a place to sleep. The irony is that it would cost $100,000 for an elevator for a building that they paid one dollar for. The city wouldn t budge. And the Sisters had to abandon the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is because these instruments are manufactured by mass production methods, which pose high chance for certain inaccuracies. This error is minimized by use of instruments of higher precision. Averaging of the titres obtained also minimizes the error. While some of this land is more fit for free range grazing than vegetable crops, much of it would be many times more productive if grains were grown rather than quot;meats. quot; In a very interesting study conducted by the The Union of Concerned ... • 44. Frederick Law Olmsted Research Paper You just won a contest! You are very happy and can not wait to share your joy. You are living what Frederick Law Olmsted engaged in. He had to take part in a designing contest to win the right to build New York a park, soon to be known as, Central Park. Frederick Law Olmsted was an impactful and accomplished landscape architect. He showed the world about his works, and made fantasies of green grass and luscious trees come to a reality. He always made sure that everything went smoothingly. Frederick s most famous quote was, This is just what I have thought when I have seen slaves at work they seem to go through the motions of labor without putting strength into them. They keep their powers in reserve for their own use at night, perhaps. (Frederick ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One piece of evidence that shows Olmsted was an accomplished landscape architect is because Olmsted was good at what he did, as says in the above paragraph. He wins landscaping design competitions because he is successful and knows what to do and because he and everyone knew he was a professional. As says Algis Valiunas, Frederick Law Olmsted the grandmaster of American landscape architecture, felt all the pains of city living and made it his vocation to relieve them as much as possible (Valiunas). Now, we have a whole new ideaof his architecture, he feels pains. He felt it was his vocation, to make the city more, livable. It was his calling to make every place more livable, his eyes saw the sadness, busy streets, yelling from lane to lane. Olmsted saw the not so peacefulness of the city life. Compare streets of cars and gas, to green grass and blue skies. This was his tool to change the world, one park at a time. Furthermore, Olmsted went on to create many beautiful public parks throughout the U.S. and Canada (Phelan). Soon on, he became unstoppable. He took on honorary jobs and was the first at many things. In continuation, He lobbied successfully to make Yosemite a national park, ran Commissioned during the Civil War, cofounded the Nation, and created the first planned suburban community in America (Fredericksen). However, when time came close. People may not be able to recognize this name, whether you can, or not, Olmsted was accomplished. For example, Although his name may not be familiar to youngsters, many of them live in cities have been made more livable by his work (Phelan). He accomplished cities more livable according to ... • 45. Why Evolution Is True By Coyne Summary In his book, Why Evolution is True, Coyne proposes five predictions of evolution and introduces the idea of retrodictions. Both his prediction of common ancestry in the fossil record and his retrodiction of vestigial structures can be observed through the lineage of the modern whale. Creationists can reject this prediction and retrodiction, yet there is enough information disprove their opinion. The history of whales provides a comprehensive fossil record that presents sufficient information to explain the prediction and retrodiction introduced by Coyne. It has been discovered that modern day whales can be traced back many generations, and each one can be considered a transitional form. Approximately 60 million years ago, a wolf sized mesonychid called a Sinonyx possessed an elongated muzzle, an enlarged jugular foramen, and a short basicranium (____). The muzzle... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Creationists have strived to present functions for structures scientist consider vestigial or deny the existence of them entirely. For example, it is stated on the website Creation Today that there is no fossil evidence for loss of legs in whales and when referring to hind limbs, is an example of losing something, not gaining something. They go on to ask, How could losing something help an organism evolve or be proof that they were evolving? As previously mentioned, there are many transitional forms of whales, dating back 60 million years ago. These ancestors were capable of walking, but because of environmental pressures this trait was no longer selected for, creating a new species. Natural selection in this species, selected for more aquatic like traits, which caused them to become more refined over time. Losing legs allowed the whales to become completely aquatic creatures. Losing the hind legs and still having remnants of these structures is undeniable proof of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Autobiography As Performative Utterance Having read a number of slave narratives this semester (including excerpts from autobiographies by figures such as Frederick Douglass and Olaudah Equiano), I found it somewhat disconcerting that Michael BГ©rubГ© conflated slave narratives and disability centered texts in his article, Autobiography as Performative Utterance. While I understand the point he was trying to make about a subject s capability to represent themselves through literature, I found the false equivalencies he was using to make his point were somewhat discomforting. Considering Count Us In revolves around a white, American, upper class family, it didn t seem particularly appropriate for BГ©rubГ© to be making the comparisons that he did. I think that his points about autobiography ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
