Mutual Engagement And Shared Diagnosis
Mutual Engagement and Shared Diagnosis
Organizations must respond to their internal and external environment. Therefore, organizational
success heavily relies on leaderships ability to manage change. Unfortunately, many leaders struggle
to effectively lead change initiatives. In fact, Ashkenas (2013, para. 1) reported 60 70% of
organizational change initiatives fail to meet their objectives.
Change is difficult because all organizations cultures, structures, mission, and values are unique. As a
result, there is not a blueprint that leaders can follow to ensure change initiative success. However,
understanding the conditions that promote successful change processes is critically important for
leaders. If employees do not support ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They enlisted volunteers to help work on the central problems reported by employees. The team soon
began to question the effectiveness and efficiency of standard practices. With the help of all
employees, the teams eventually devised a list of 30 suggestion that would greatly improve the
working environment.
Not only were the leaders impressed by the employees insights, they took action to address all of the
problems. As a result, participation increased, communication improved, relationship between
employees and management improved, and access to training and development opportunities were
wide spread. But most importantly, once the original change initiatives were introduced, employees
embraced the initiatives, offered insights on how to improve their outcomes, and ensured their
success.
Pursuing Mutual Engagement and Shared Diagnosis
Mutual engagement is the process of building a participatory dialogue among employees at all
organizational levels. Mutual engagement plays a pivotal role in change initiatives because creates an
environment where all employees are committed to consistently act in the best interest of the
organization. Shared diagnosis is a process that creates widespread agreement about the need and
requirements for change. It is important because when employees participate with diagnosing
problems, they understand their

Essay about Taxes, GDP and Net Personal Income
Taxes are an inevitable necessary part of life. While most of us become stressed out and suffer
financially from taxes, it is a known fact that we enjoy many of the benefits of the process of taxation.
To look at it from a positive point of view, we must remember a few important parts of our lives that
are made possible from taxes. These include new highway construction and repairs, the building and
maintenance of public parks and facilities, our law enforcement agencies, emergency services, and
much of the health care system; all courtesy of taxes. This assignment will discuss the government s
need to raise and lower taxes and the outcome it has on the GDP and net personal income and other
key factors that play part in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Typically, when the government raises taxes our gross income remains the same allowing for a loss of
personal net income. As our net personal income decreases the amount of disposable income we have
also shrinks. This effects the economy in a negative way because people spend less which essentially
decreases the income of the businesses that they normally buy their goods and services from, which
ultimately leads to a decrease in the total tax revenue that was enforced to help the economy to begin
with.
Furthermore, just as too low taxes over a period of time can have detrimental effects, having too high
taxes can produce detrimental effects as well. When taxes are increased it seems that the productivity
of employees seems to decrease, thus businesses suffer. This seems to be because people tend to
decrease their output at work because they feel they are not getting as much money per hour as the
human effort they put forth should be paid for (Congressional Budget Office, 2005). As people begin
to spend less and there is a lower demand, the supply becomes higher and essentially just sits in
storage. This leads to higher unemployment rates which drop the demand even further and as a direct
result, people s net

Similarities Between Antigone And Thomas King
Society plays a crucial role in everyone s lives as it directs the way one behaves, observes, and
interacts. Antigone and Borders written by Sophocles and Thomas King respectively, demonstrate the
roles and decisions executed by the protagonists according to societal expectations. To briefly
describe, Antigone is a play set in the ancient Geek era where the protagonist, Antigone, breaks a law
that holds the punishment of death, to give her traitorous brother a respectable funeral. On the other
hand, Borders is a short story set in modern day times where the protagonist, the narrator s mother, is
attempting to cross the border to visit her daughter without surrendering her Blackfoot status to a
Canadian or American citizenship. Both women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To emphasize, the phrase we had nowhere to go, that neither the Americans nor the Canadians would
let us in indicates that the narrator s mother knows that her decision to drive from border to border is
making the trip difficult not only for herself but her son as well (King 312). Not to mention, it also
illustrates that the mother is trying to dismiss her motherly characteristics like being nurturing and
affectionate and put up a hardened exterior because she wants acceptance for herself. However, she
did express some hope for her son to ensure him that they will gain justice eventually, which
demonstrates that even if she tries to venture out of the societal norms, her motherly instincts will
always be there (King 312). Moreover, it establishes that mother is willing to push until she gets her
way which is again typical of male qualities. Therefore, the violation of the societal expectations
reveals the narrator s mother s strong will to surpass the fear of the aftermath by not complying to
government authorities from two bordering

Censorship In John Green s Looking For Alaska
Dear Mesa Public Schools Governing Board,
Many books have pushed the boundaries of censorship. Topics like sexuality, explicit language, and
substance use that are present in multiple pieces of literature are some of the many things that will
have a book be considered for banning. Looking For Alaska by John Green is one of those challenged
books. Although it may include sexual scenes and explicit language,it is a book that should not be
banned because of its relatable characters and important themes. First, the majority of characters in
Looking For Alaska are relatable to contemporary teens and therefore should not be banned. Miles
Halter is a teenage boy that wants something exciting to happen, I was after a Great Perhaps... (Green
5). He covets for an event that changes his life from dull to exhilarating, something most people have
desired for in their lives. Another character that is relatable is Alaska Young. She enjoys sex and
alcoholic beverages, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the themes is to be strong. This is present when Miles goes to Alaska for comfort and she tells
him, Mommy ain t here so buck up big guy, (Green 27). The message is important because life is filled
with problems, but everyone has to keep going. Another theme in the book is to not think of a person
as anything but a person. This is prominent when Chip and Miles are arguing and Chip says, You don t
even care about her! All that matters is you and your precious f**cking fantasy that you and Alaska
had this godd**ned secret love affair.. (Green 170). This lesson is important because often times, teens
may look at another person and think that they are perfect when in reality they are not. These are
lessons Miles had to learn with experiences. Both messages are important especially with adolescents
because they might experience what Miles did and want guidance, which is what this book

Pearl Harbor Open Door Policy
Prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan, the war started in China in 1937. The war in China was
between China and Japan. Japan had marched into China and declaring an all out attack on China
specifically for their resources and supplies. Since Japan relied on international trade for their
resources, it was vital for Japan to establish themselves as a powerful nation in order to receive the
resources that they needed. However, their actions that they had done in China had violated the open
door policy that was enacted by the US for the purpose of equal trading opportunities and business in
China. Japan was in a state where they felt that they needed to take control of China because their
economy was declining. If Japan didn t take actions

Facebook s War On Free Speech
In addition to supporter shaming being abundant in daily face to face interactions, social media, such
as Twitter and Facebook, become a breeding ground for supporter shaming. On Twitter, Kevin Allred,
a professor at Rutgers University, wrote, If you re white claiming being called racist for supporting
Trump is a bias incident, you ve lived the most privileged life ever! Ever! The supporter shaming on
social media, however, did not stop at the individual level; it grew to a systematic banning of vocal
and enthusiastic Trump supporters on Twitter. Charlie Nash wrote in a Breitbart article, ...It appears
that Twitter s war on free speech is directed at a specific generation of libertarians and alternative
conservative voices, many of whom are...supporters of Donald Trump...they re going after the social
network s most influential Trump supporters... While vocal Trump supporters were being banned on
Twitter, there did not seem to be an issue with death threats being posed toward Donald Trump and his
supporters, seeing as composers of such tweets were not banned. This type of behavior, engaged in by
social media platforms, made political discourse hostile, but the opposite should be the goal of such
media platforms. It should be a duty of the media to encourage political discourse and to encourage
people to actively participate in politics, since it affects everyone, not to punish those who have
opposing beliefs. The supporter shaming did not end with face to face

Why Horses Were Used During The Civil War
After reading the Tucker diary, I became extremely interested in how animals, specifically horses,
were being used during the Civil War. In Tucker s diary there is a page where it appears he is taking
inventory of the horses with him. I noticed that one of the tallies is crossed out, and this made me
wonder what sort of ailments or battle wounds horses faced. Also, the sheer amount of horses that are
accounted for must have been expensive to buy, and I wondered the cost of horses during this time
period. Lastly, I couldn t help but contemplate what role horses played in winning battles or the war
altogether. With these thoughts in mind I began to question how the portrayal of horses in early
American literature differed from how horses were actually treated and used in the Civil War. I came
to realize that horses in The Sovereignty and Goodness of God, Shepard Lee, and Tucker s diary were
all treated in the same way that historians say they were used. In Mary Rowlandson s captivity
narrative, horses were used as a means of food in desperation and as an effective way to transport
people from place to place. While held in captivity with the Nipmuc, Narragansett, and Wampanoag
tribes, Rowlandson was moved around by walking with the rest of the tribe, or by being placed on the
back of a horse (Rowlandson 83). Horses were the most common mode of transportation for soldiers
for soldiers during the Civil War. Throughout the course of the war, the North used 3.4 million horses

Potential Torts And Contract Legalities And Ways To Avoid...
Running Head: TORTS AND CONTRACT LIABILITIES AND WAYS TO AVOID THEM
Potential Torts and Contract Liabilities
And Different Ways to Avoid Them
Abstract
People who do business as a sole proprietor or in a partnership are liable for the torts committed by
them and for torts committed by the business and its agents. The best way to avoid tort liability is to
set establish their business as a corporation or a limited liability company. A corporation or limited
liability company will act as its own entity for all intent and purposes. When it becomes it own entity
you will have to separate your finances from that of the business. Remember that it does not matter
what type of business organization you select, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Remember that it does not matter what type of business organization is selected, if a person commits a
tort they are still personally held responsible. For example, if a shareholder in a corporation runs over
an employee while driving a company truck, he or she is still held liable for negligently operating the
vehicle. There are certain clauses that can be beneficial in a contract as well as clauses that one should
be wary of. Some clauses that can be beneficial include hold harmless clauses, which are used to shift
liability from person to another; and indemnification clauses, which are designed primarily to transfer
the liability and expense of claims brought against the business away from the entity (Rapp). While
some clauses are beneficial, one should be wary of others. For example, one should avoid clauses
pertaining to his or her rights and duties in the event that a claim or suit arises, which can create a
contractual duty on their part (Rapp). Entering into a provider agreement that forfeits a person s ability
to seek compensation for services they are entitled to should also be avoided. One should always be
cautious of forfeiting their right to compensations (Rapp).

Tubing Essay
Wiping the sleepies out of my eyes, I quickly glanced at my alarm clock 5 am. Good, I ve got plenty
of time, I thought to myself. As quietly as possible, which never works when I am trying to, I quickly
grabbed a bowl of cereal for breakfast. Checking my list and grabbing my gear I headed out to wait
for a taxi in the cool fading morning. I could taste the excitement, or was that the humidity?
That day began like all the other missionary kid tubing trips down the Davao River in the Philippines,
full of anxious anticipation and adventure. I was so excited you can barely sleep the night before. My
mom made sure I had everything I needed, worrying like only mothers know how. My friends and I

Some of us struggled into our wetsuit, trying to jump and jiggle in, while others tied themselves to
their tub as a safety line. I decided not to tie myself on, because the last time I had tubed in a flood, the
nylon rope almost strangled me. As we continued to get ready, we had to periodically move back
because the river was still rising. Every once and a while, huge trees whole trees would pass by, barely
making it under the rope bridge ahead of us. This only added to our excitement. This was going to be
AWESOME!
The plan was to stay as a group as much as possible. Like always, we each had a buddy. Plans
changed. As soon as we entered the water we were sweep away, literally sweep away. In normal
conditions we could steer and avoid objects easily on the river. This was completely different. In about
five minutes we all realized that the river was in control, not us. Our group got scattered like a rain
drop hitting a window. Buddies changed.
Four of us, Fraser, Isaac, Jon, and I slammed into a grove of coconut trees that is usually five feet up
on the bank. The river was supposed go on both sides of this island but this time it did not. The river,
swollen to its max capacity, went clear over and through the grove. Gathering our senses, and Jon s
tub that he got thrown off of, we tempted to half walk, half swim our way to the end of the grove and

Second Great Awakening Analysis
The Second Great Awakening was a Protestant revival movement during the early 19th century in the
United States. It enrolled millions of new members in existing evangelical denominations and led to
the formation of new denominations. Many converts believed that the Awakening heralded a new
millennial age. The Second Great Awakening stimulated the establishment of many reform movements
by a sort of domino effect of inspiration as one movement started, it encouraged the initiation of
another. A lot of these movements were composed and sought out during camp meetings on religious
revival during the 1800 s to get a gathering of passionate on goers to share and discuss their beliefs to
restore their interest and devotion to their faith, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The camp meeting was a religious service of several days length with preachers. Settlers in thinly
populated areas gathered at the camp meeting for fellowship as well as worship. (Lambert, 2013) The
sheer exhilaration of participating in a religious revival with crowds of hundreds and perhaps
thousands of people inspired the dancing, shouting, and singing associated with these events. Upon
their return home, most converts joined or created small local churches, which grew rapidly. The
Second Great Awakening marked a religious transition in society in America. Many Americans from
the Calvinist sect emphasized man s inability to save themselves and their only way to be saved was
from grace from God. (Independence Hall Association in Philadelphia, 2014) The Second Great
Awakening caused a more of a lasting change on American society than any other religious revival.
One of the major ideas of the Second Great Awakening was that people could perfect themselves. The
Second Great Awakening put forward the idea that people could work to achieve their own salvation.
It also was based on the idea that revivalist preachers could go around spreading the word and thereby
help people to improve. These

Essay #1: The Daodejing
In The Daodejing, Laozi, similar to many prominent Chinese philosophers before and after his time,
discusses his unique perspective of the Way. There is much controversy, however, regarding whether
Laozi was the actual author of this text or was even a real person, and his work is thought to have been
a composite. (For the purpose of clarity, throughout this paper, the author(s) of The Daodejing will be
mentioned as Laozi.) Laozi s vision of the Way is exceptionally challenging to define using words
because of its metaphysical nature. Although this term is somewhat difficult to envision, it is what
mankind should aspire and take action to be aligned with. According to Laozi, in readings in Classical
Chinese Philosophy, the Way (or dao) is the source, sustenance, and ideal state of all things in the
world (Laozi 158). It can be best thought of as the underlying guiding force of all events that occur in
the universe, and mankind is closer to the Way when they realize that all things are interconnected and
have an effect on one another. As might be expected, this vague definition isn t a foolproof depiction
of the eighty one chapters in the Daodejing, but one is able to grasp a basic understanding of Laozi s
ineffable doctrine. Although numerous chapters are meaningful and could provide

Assess The Causes Of Child Poverty
Child poverty is not just something that poorer countries have to deal with, it is a world wide issue
involving even the richest countries, where the disparity between rich and poor can be worse than in
developing countries. This essay will examine some of the key causes of child poverty as well as the
impacts on society. The reality of child poverty in the UK is that some families living on a low income
and have only about £13 per day per person. (Barnardo s online 2015). With this in mind, many people
may well have met, or know, families that are below the UK poverty line.
Child poverty is defined as any group of people, or individuals, who are unable, through lack of
money, to adequately feed themselves. They may not be able to afford suitable clothing or provide
themselves with suitable heated accommodation. Child poverty can cause serious problems for
children. For those in poverty it means being cold, hungry and often not being able to join activities
with friends or activities that cost money, such as bowling, going to the cinema, swimming or other
interests and pursuits. In addition, 60% of families on the lower incomes cannot afford to take their

Youth Reflection Paper
Even in 2017 social injustice is very real. Many before have taken measures against this issue, but it s
still there. Over the past couple of week s, I ve taken notice to the events that have been going on in
the world. While keeping the question how can I change that in mind. It occurred to me that many of
the oppressors committing social injustices were victims themselves. They were not properly educated
when they were younger. Growing up thinking something is right your whole life is hard to change.
So, I knew that s where I would start. The youth is the future and should be an improvement from the
previous generation. I ve been fortunate enough to experience different cultures, and people my whole
life. From going to Laotian New Year, to participating in Muslim community programs, etc. the list
goes on. Also, I have Black, White, Indian, and; Asian, Arabic, Hispanic, and Native American

taught? While I was doing my government homework about labor unions it hit me! The definition of a
union is, an organized association of workers formed to protect and further their rights and interests.
What better way to promote social injustice then to have an organization of likeminded, diverse

Shakespeare s Heart Of Darkness
Relevance of Heart of Darkness
Alexander Spirovski
LITR 211
Professor David Auchter
Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness contains both relevant and irrelevant elements to today s society.
Issues present in the text such as imperialism, racism, and moral ambiguity are still present today but
their formats have changed enough in society that Heart of Darkness approaches obsolescence in
perspective. Concurrently, the characters and theme presented in Heart of Darkness are scarce in
fictional British literature therefore allowing this book to remain quite relevant. As we read more
books, our ability to form informed opinions increases.
Imperialism in Heart of Darkness is prompted by pursuit of natural resources such as ivory under the
guise of the benevolent deed of civilizing primitive savage tribes of Africa. What occurs is the
widespread enslavement of Africans by Europeans via forced labor, physical beatings, chained
bondage, and denial of basic necessities such as food, clothing, and medicine, as seen here:
Six black men advanced in a file, toiling up the path. They walked erect and slow, balancing small
baskets full of earth on their heads, and the clink kept time with their footsteps. Black rags were
wound round their loins, and the short ends behind waggled to and fro like tails. I could see every rib,
the joints of their limbs were like knots in a rope; each had an iron collar on his neck, and all were

the book because they can actually picture the different events that are taking place. The book is also
better because it has detailed pictures of each event that is taking place so the reader can actually see
the different things the duckling is going through while their reading the book. These different points
tend to keep children more interested in the book and make them want to read and learn from it
themselves. This version is much longer and includes more detail about each of the stops the ugly
duckling makes on his journey compared to what I have read before. Because this book is much
longer, I believe that children can really learn the moral and understand what the book is trying to
teach them which is to be nice to all even though some may be different. It teaches children not to
single others out because of their looks or their actions because you never know what they are going
to grow up to be. The pictures back up what the author is trying to say, the reader can see that the other
ducks and ducklings kicked him out because he was different and the hunting dogs didn t even want to
mess with him because he was ugly. The book teaches children not to judge

Detailed Timeline Of The Periodic Table And The Major...
Preliminary Chemistry
Assessment Task 1
Jessica Kuang 11CH3
Question 1: (4 marks)
Construct a timeline to summarise the development of the Periodic Table and the major contributions
made by notable scientists (up to G Seaborg) Question 2: (8 marks)
(a) The elements lithium, sodium and potassium formed one of the original triads used to show that
elements could be grouped . What scientific evidence did scientists have to justify this grouping of
elements?
Johann Dobereiner, a German chemist, suggested the grouping of elements with similar properties into
clusters of three triads. He discovered that when arranged in ascending atomic mass, in the case of
lithium, sodium and potassium, sodium s atomic mass was approximately the arithmetic mean of
lithium and potassium. There was also a correlation between the atomic numbers, (Li 3, Sodium 11,
Potassium 19) which showed the mean of the lowest and highest atomic numbers equalled the atomic
number of the middle element.
(b) Identify two other triads which were identified during the early construction of the Periodic Table.
The other two triads are sulfur, selenium and tellurium and chlorine, bromine and iodine.
(c) In 1864, John Newlands observed that the properties of the known elements varied periodically
with their atomic masses. He saw a pattern which reminded him of the musical scale and published his
findings as the law of octaves
(i) Why were atomic masses (weights), not atomic

Mexico of Spanish Indian descent and a devout Catholic.
Frida Kahlo contracted Polio at a very young age; she was 6 years old and this would be the beginning
event of her experience with pain. She was restricted to bed for a period of 9 months. Her right leg
was deformed and remained thinner than her left leg so she decided to cover her withered leg by
wearing long skirts for the rest of her life. At this young age she experienced pain, isolation and
loneliness since her classmates would tease her and call her names as a result of her right leg
deformity. She found that her imagination was a safe haven to retreat to so no one would know she
was feeling hurt. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Behind Every Great Woman Stands a Great Nation What can women bring to the table that men can t?
The world may seem to be run by men, but three women caught the eye of many people. Esther De
Berdt Reed was a women who took matters into her own hands by creating a fund for the soldiers in
the war. Even though she did not live a long life, she changed how people viewed women. Deborah
Sampson fooled the men standing right next to her. She fought with her fellow brothers against the
British and without them even knowing she was a woman. Though Abigail Adams did not physically
do anything for the women of America, she used her her pen and paper to explain how she really felt

Since Esther was British and she married an American man, it was very hard for her to decide which
side to take. She loved her home country, but she could not tolerate the way the British acted towards
the Americans. She became a supporter of American Independence. Through the years Joseph s social
status was rising, Esther saw it as an opportunity to make an impact in the war efforts. She decided to
write Sentiments of an American Women . It was published in the newspaper to spread the word to get
women to join her in her nationalistic organization, the Ladies Association of Philadelphia. The goal
for the Ladies was to raise money to accumulate supplies for the soldiers in the war. Only three days
after the Pennsylvania Gazette published Sentiments of an American Woman more than thirty women
gathered to discuss the best way to aid the Soldiers. The group of ladies split up into groups and went
from door to door trying to earn money. Many people contributed to the cause because they found it
fascinating that there were women asking instead of men. Giving door to door, the society saw the
men as doing work and women staying at home. Due to their hard work, in the end they were very
successful. The Ladies collected more than $300,000 dollars. The money was used to purchase
supplies like cloth, thread, and needles to sew clothes and other apparel for the soldiers. On behalf of
the Ladies Association of Philadelphia, the men s morale was lifted and made it less difficult for the
soldiers to fight for their country. Esther showed people that women could make a difference in the
world. These women worked independently and without the need of men. Esther Reed was a

Similarities Between Neorealism And Institutionalism
Institutionalism Institutionalism rejects neorealist claims that the international system is characterized
by anarchy. Rather, it is more accurate to think of international system as made up of rational states
that exhibit growing interdependence. Interdependence creates incentives for cooperation among
states as it offers mutual benefits to all parties engaged. States learn cooperation through reciprocity or
are forced to cooperate for sake of securing public goods. Institutionalists also focus on the free riding
problem, which assumes that nations will tend to cheat and not do their part in producing public
goods. International institutions, such as the United Nations or World Trade Organization, can help in
establishing and sustaining cooperation among states by reducing transaction costs, helping with
monitoring (free riding problem), and offering third party mediation. Neorealism and institutionalism
have their differences, but they share also some common assumptions. Therefore, both perspectives
agree that states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, according to institutionalists, the core objective is to promote cooperation in anarchic and

actions. In order to define international cooperation, institutionalists looked at the state centric
perspective, which is similar with neorealism, which regards state as rational, unitary, and utility
maximizing actor to survive in global arena. Therefore, states are considered as the most relevant
actors with specific goals. As pursuing specific goals, states are assumed to make decision making

gently to the floor. It is essential to move anything that might cause further injury to the person during
the seizure. If the patient is already on the floor, do not try to hold the person down or move the
person because that can cause further injuries. Turning the patient on their side during a seizure will
help keep their airway clear of any fluids that they may produce during the seizure. After a seizure
episode, the aide will check to see if the person has any injuries or if the person is having trouble

To What Extent Does the Mise-En-Scene in ‘Night of the...
To what extent does the Mise en Scene in Night of the Hunter reinforce an understanding of the film s
mood, character and narrative themes?
The term Mise en Scene is used to signify the director s control over what happens in the film frame.
In English the phrase literally translates to putting in the scene (Bordwell, 2010a). Night of the Hunter
(Charles Laughton, 1955) is a prime example of a film that uses aspects of Mise en Scene to sway the
audience s opinions of characters and their understanding of narrative themes and to create a certain
atmosphere in the film. Although the fundamental aspects of Mise en Scene in both theatre and cinema
are those of lighting, blocking and production design (costume, props and sets), ... Show more content

The way the actor fluctuates between being composed and being suddenly aggressive expresses the
psychotic nature of his personality. However, even when he is composed the actor still manages to
give an unsettling performance. Although a lot of this is communicated through lighting techniques
and non diegetic music, the actor was required to give a rather edgy performance. This performance in
Night of the Hunter allows, in the narrative, the more strong minded characters such as John Harper
and Rachel Cooper to see through his disingenuity. We are shown Rachel Cooper and John Harper s
discomfort by their facial expressions, most prominently when Reverend Powell is giving his speeches
about love and hate.
The costume of Reverend Powell is also instrumental to the narrative in Night of the Hunter as the he
relies upon his typical preacher outfit to fool the unsuspecting characters, the costume having obvious
connotations of good morals. Similarly, makeup is employed in this film but this time to signify a
progression in narrative. This is apparent when the kids are on the journey down the river, their eyes
made dark with makeup. This indicates to the audience that the children have been travelling for a
long time. The setting of the river is also significant in this film. Just like the western road movie
genre, when the children escape, it can be seen as a

And also children may be rehearsed and show better behaviour. Filming For: More information can be
gained as visual nature and sound is used. Against: Children may know they are been filmed and not
act themselves or change behaviour or way of play. Also the observer chooses when to record and this
time may not be the typical of that child. Sound recording For: The child s intonation and speech
pattern can be accurately recorded. Against: Child may be aware that they are been recorded and also
the observer chooses when and where which can also affect the way the child acts. Information from
parents and colleagues For: Other colleagues or parents may see the children involved in different

2.3 Inclusive and person centred approach means that anything involving supporting or planning for
that person means they should be involved were possible. When planning for a child it should be taken
into consideration what is best for the child and also how it might involve or engage the child. This
means when planning for a child it is important that we do not segregate them from others and think of
ways in which we can involve others or ways to adapt a activity so that the area of development that
needs support can be incorporated. I implement this in my own work by looking at an individual

E. I. du Pont de Nemours is an American chemical company that has recently acquired the major oil
company of Conoco Inc. and is becoming one of the largest chemical manufacturers in the United
States. Its financial conservatism has pushed Du Pont to the forefront of the industry as its profitability
soared, providing it with the liquidity to readily finance its cash needs. But several competitive
conditions posed a challenge to its risk averse financial policy as the 1970 s was characteristic of a
declining level of industry demand and price, along with rising fuel prices and an economic recession.

During the 1980s, Du Pont entered and won a bidding contest for Conoco, doubling its size and
significantly increasing its orientation toward undifferentiated commodity products, but this move,
however, was responded with negativity by the industry analysts. The purchase of Conoco was
financed through issuance of common stock and a floating rated debt, propelling Du Pont s debt ratio
from 20% to 40%, downgrading its bond rating to AA, the first time in the company s history. With
declining oil prices hampering the the company s performance, and an economic recession plaguing
the chemical industry, its return on capital and earnings per share fell dramatically.
Du Pont s financial policy had always been based on maximization of financial flexibility. Taking to
consideration the riskiness of Du Pont s businesses, its competitive position and profitability had
declined in the last 20 years. Moreover, the firm is still forced to seek external financing each year for
the next five years (1983 1987) due to the continued high level of capital expenditures which are
considered non deferrable to redress the causes of poor performance. In view of the importance and
magnitude of the projected financing needs, the firm is concerned about how the cost and availability

Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer and navigator. He was born in 1451 in Genoa, Italy. His
first voyage was to the Atlantic Ocean in 1476, where he almost died. He participated in several other
expeditions to Africa. In 1492, he left Spain on the Santa Maria with The Pinta and The Nina beside
him. He was the son of a weaver and went to sea as a teenager. When sailing the Atlantic Ocean, his
ship burned and he had to swim to Portugal, where he eventually married Felipa Perestrelo. They had
one son in 1480 and his name was Diego. His wife died soon after Diego was born and Columbus
moved to Spain. He had a second son, Fernando, who was born out of wedlock in 1488 with Beatriz

India and China more difficult. Columbus estimated the Erath to be a sphere. While experts disagreed
with Columbus on matters of distance, they thought that a voyage westward from England would turn

Benefits Of Getting Contracts For The Construction Industry
Written contracts are useful tools for any business, and construction companies are no exception. In
fact, contracts can be both practically useful and strategic in the construction industry. This newsletter
will introduce some of the practical benefits of getting contracts for your projects and then discuss
some key provisions of construction contracts. Understanding these provisions will help you to
manage risk through careful scrutiny of contract terms and knowing when to call on counsel for
assistance in negotiating and drafting contract provisions that fairly allocate risk among the parties.
Taking the time to negotiate contracts will yield at least three distinct benefits. The first benefit, which
may be obvious but still merits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the other party moves quickly on the fundamental terms and you are able to establish those terms
without too much trouble before tackling the more peripheral details, you can rest assured that you and
your counterparty are on the same page. However, when that portion of the contracting process fails, it
becomes obvious that there is no deal. The third practical benefit of contracting is that it will give you
key insights into the integrity of the other party. It is especially worthwhile to get a sneak peek at
whether the counterparty will keep its word. Thankfully, you do not have to visit a fly by night
fortuneteller to discover this information. Negotiating a contract will give you the preview you need.
Observing how the other party deals with contracts will reveal their general method of handling
business affairs. A company that agrees to pay within 30 days after the job ends but then rejects firm
language requiring payment in 30 days or requiring interest if payment is made later than 30 days is
probably not committed to paying on time. The benefits extend beyond these three areas too. The
specific provisions you agree to will impact the bottom line of your business over time. Well drafted
contracts are a key factor that determines survival and profitability in the construction industry. Such
contracts lays the foundation for a healthy working relationship and a profitable job by defining key
terms and issues including the scope of work to be performed, the

The Impact Of Motivation On An Organization s Development
Motivation is what drives people to succeed and reach their goals. This plays an important role in
enhancing an organisation s development. An employee s motivation can play a big part in
organisational behaviour, as it is a fundamental part of how the employee performs in their role and
how they assist the organisation in attaining their goals.
Self interest is defined as: focus on actions or activities that are advantageous to an individual or
organisation. For a business or individual to survive and grow, a degree of self interest is necessary.
When there is too much focus on self interest the benefits of the group at large diminishes.
Motivation on the other hand is referred to as: the forces within a person that affect the direction,
intensity and persistence of voluntary behaviour. Motivated employees are willing to exert a particular
level of effort (intensity), for a certain amount of time (persistence), towards a particular goal
(direction). Motivation is one of the four essential drivers of individual behaviour and performance .
(McShane et.al, 2013, pg. 138). In other words, motivation is in the form of things that stimulates us,
and further enhances our knowledge. People do things, not because they have to, but because they re
somewhat interested in the activity or the task that they have to do, and people often learn from these
activities, get the results that they want, thus, making them strive to continue working.

for unjust tariffs and conflict. Jackson s presidency would be characterized by key events such as the
Indian removal act, the nullification crisis, and the dispute known as the war against the bank, that
would alter the nation forever. One of the many acts put into place during Andrew Jackson s time as

Alzheimer s Disease ( Ad ) Is A Neurodegenerative...
Alzheimer s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative condition that affects the memory function, which is
a huge public health concern among the elderly population. It has affected more than five million
individuals in the United States and that number is expected to quadruple by the 2050 if interventions
are not found. AD has a huge affect on the world not only by the number of deaths that it is causing
but also the amount of health care costs reaching around 100 billion dollars. Because of the increase of
AD throughout the globe, the aging population should consider the intake of certain vitamins and
nutrients in their daily lives to possibly reduce or prevent the onset of AD. Nutritional factors and
nutritional deficiencies have a very strong correlation with cognitive decline as illustrated throughout
the study done by Angelo Parigi, Francesco Panza, Cristiano Capurso, and Vincenzo Solfrizzi. Ones
dietary habits and nutritional deficiencies have a huge determining factor on cognitive impairment on
an individual with AD. B vitamins have a relationship with cognitive dysfunction in many
observational studies as well as clinical and epidemiological studies. Another type of vitamin that was
found to correspond with cognitive impairment is folate (B9) and cobalamine (B12), the studies that
were done on these two types of vitamins did find the determinants with cognitive impairment in AD.

gel. The distance the DNA has migrated in the gel can be judged visually by monitoring the migration
of the loading buffer dye. The electrical current is left on long enough to ensure that the DNA
fragments move far enough across the gel to separate them, but not so long that they run off the end of
the gel. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To visualize the DNA, the gel is stained with a fluorescent dye that binds to the DNA, and is placed on
an ultraviolet trans illuminator that will show the stained DNA as bright bands. The dye can also be
mixed with the gel before it is poured. If the gel has run correctly the banding pattern of the DNA
marker/size standard will be visible. It is then possible to judge the size of the DNA in the sample by
imagining a horizontal line running across from the bands of the DNA marker. The size of the DNA

Analysis Of Kwame Anthony Appiah Racial Identities
Differences Among Differences In his essay, Racial Identities , Kwame Anthony Appiah addresses the
topic of racial identification. He describes how and why it s hard not to identify someone based on
their race. Today in the United States, racial identification is quite relevant. People judge and
stereotype others based on race. Classifying people based on their looks isn t bad, it s the negative
attitudes and labels that come with it. Racial identification is hard for most people to avoid, is
detrimental due to the bad attitudes people have, negatively affects people s lifestyles, and divide
people. Racial identification is harder than ethnic identification for most people to avoid. To explain
this, in Racial Identities in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in an article titled Inequality, Race, and Remedy for The American Prospect, Alan
Jenkins states Poor people of color are also increasingly more likely than whites to find themselves
living in high poverty neighborhoods with limited resources and limited options (Jenkins). This
illustrates that an individual s race can completely affect their home, job, financial situation, and
overall way of life. According to this article, person of color has a higher chance at living in poverty
than a white person does. This example shows that colored people aren t given as many opportunities
and as a result, it may be harder for them to succeed in life. The oppression they face is all because of
the color of their skin, not because they are any less smart or human than others. The poor lifestyle is a
result of racial identification and false labeling. People automatically stereotype and judge black
people because of their skin color and often times it has a negative outcome.
Focusing so much on an individual s race usually doesn t help people come together. In an ebook titled
Legacies of Race: Identities, Attitudes, and Politics in Brazil on EBSCOhost, Stanely R. Bailey say In
the promonoracial argument, external labeling is considered a major influence in racial or ethnic group
identification. In the historic absence of strong racial subjectivity defined along dichotomous

Sharon V. Salinger, Taverns and Drinking in Early America (Maryland: Johns Hopkins University
Press, 2002)
Most aspects of colonial life in early America are well talked about: housing, food, daily routine,
religion, etc. One of the more glossed over, yet interesting topics, is that of colonial drinking and the
taverns in which it takes place. Why did colonial Americans enjoy drinking so much? In Sharon V.
Salinger s, Taverns and Drinking in Early America, she outlines how drinking traditions started and
how it affected daily life and the impact it had on the people of early America. Salinger s overview of
the origins and developed habits of drinking in early America provides insight to the different
purposes the activity and taverns in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overview of taverns and drinking and their great impact on daily life is obvious in the evidence
and narration Salinger provides. She uses a journal written by Thomas Jefferson to explain how deeply
entrenched in their daily lives taverns and drinking were: Thomas Jefferson noted with alarm that
cheap distilled spirits were spreading through the mass of our citizens, yet he is credited with
inventing the presidential cocktail party (3). Despite any negativity surrounding drinking, its growth in
popularity was unstoppable. She also adds the fact that water was considered an unsafe beverage ,
which partially explains the reason for alcohol s rise to popularity and appearance in the daily lives of
early Americans. This increase in drinking also lead to the tavern culture and the need to regulate it,
which brings in the lawmaking side.
The thesis of Salinger s book and research states, Colonial taverns and hotels that developed from elite
taverns manifested an American society that maintained segregation in public by race, gender, and
class (245). Essentially, over the course of the eighteenth century colonial taverns grew exclusionary,
in time serving certain sections of society rather than the whole community. She writes even at the
very beginning of the text of the separation: In the urban taverns that served a middle class and elite
clientele, men gathered on a regular basis to transact business, argue over issues of local politics, or
share a convivial

While most of us become stressed out and suffer financially from taxes, it is a known fact that we enjoy many of the benefits of the process of taxation. To look at it from a positive point of view, we must remember a few important parts of our lives that are made possible from taxes. These include new highway construction and repairs, the building and maintenance of public parks and facilities, our law enforcement agencies, emergency services, and much of the health care system; all courtesy of taxes. This assignment will discuss the government s need to raise and lower taxes and the outcome it has on the GDP and net personal income and other key factors that play part in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Typically, when the government raises taxes our gross income remains the same allowing for a loss of personal net income. As our net personal income decreases the amount of disposable income we have also shrinks. This effects the economy in a negative way because people spend less which essentially decreases the income of the businesses that they normally buy their goods and services from, which ultimately leads to a decrease in the total tax revenue that was enforced to help the economy to begin with. Furthermore, just as too low taxes over a period of time can have detrimental effects, having too high taxes can produce detrimental effects as well. When taxes are increased it seems that the productivity of employees seems to decrease, thus businesses suffer. This seems to be because people tend to decrease their output at work because they feel they are not getting as much money per hour as the human effort they put forth should be paid for (Congressional Budget Office, 2005). As people begin to spend less and there is a lower demand, the supply becomes higher and essentially just sits in storage. Antigone and Borders written by Sophocles and Thomas King respectively, demonstrate the roles and decisions executed by the protagonists according to societal expectations. To briefly describe, Antigone is a play set in the ancient Geek era where the protagonist, Antigone, breaks a law that holds the punishment of death, to give her traitorous brother a respectable funeral. On the other hand, Borders is a short story set in modern day times where the protagonist, the narrator s mother, is attempting to cross the border to visit her daughter without surrendering her Blackfoot status to a Canadian or American citizenship. To emphasize, the phrase we had nowhere to go, that neither the Americans nor the Canadians would let us in indicates that the narrator s mother knows that her decision to drive from border to border is making the trip difficult not only for herself but her son as well (King 312). Not to mention, it also illustrates that the mother is trying to dismiss her motherly characteristics like being nurturing and affectionate and put up a hardened exterior because she wants acceptance for herself. However, she did express some hope for her son to ensure him that they will gain justice eventually, which demonstrates that even if she tries to venture out of the societal norms, her motherly instincts will always be there (King 312). Moreover, it establishes that mother is willing to push until she gets her way which is again typical of male qualities. Therefore, the violation of the societal expectations reveals the narrator s mother s strong will to surpass the fear of the aftermath by not complying to government authorities from two bordering ... Topics like sexuality, explicit language, and substance use that are present in multiple pieces of literature are some of the many things that will have a book be considered for banning. Looking For Alaska by John Green is one of those challenged books. On Twitter, Kevin Allred, a professor at Rutgers University, wrote, If you re white claiming being called racist for supporting Trump is a bias incident, you ve lived the most privileged life ever! • 9. Why Horses Were Used During The Civil War After reading the Tucker diary, I became extremely interested in how animals, specifically horses, were being used during the Civil War. In Tucker s diary there is a page where it appears he is taking inventory of the horses with him. I noticed that one of the tallies is crossed out, and this made me wonder what sort of ailments or battle wounds horses faced. Also, the sheer amount of horses that are accounted for must have been expensive to buy, and I wondered the cost of horses during this time period. Lastly, I couldn t help but contemplate what role horses played in winning battles or the war altogether. With these thoughts in mind I began to question how the portrayal of horses in early American literature differed from how horses were actually treated and used in the Civil War. I came to realize that horses in The Sovereignty and Goodness of God, Shepard Lee, and Tucker s diary were all treated in the same way that historians say they were used. In Mary Rowlandson s captivity narrative, horses were used as a means of food in desperation and as an effective way to transport people from place to place. While held in captivity with the Nipmuc, Narragansett, and Wampanoag tribes, Rowlandson was moved around by walking with the rest of the tribe, or by being placed on the back of a horse (Rowlandson 83). Classical Chinese Ethical And Political Theory Malcolm Johnson Prof. Michael Puett/TF: Peng Yin Ethical Reasoning 18: Classical Chinese Ethical and Political Theory October 17, 2016 Essay #1: The Daodejing In The Daodejing, Laozi, similar to many prominent Chinese philosophers before and after his time, discusses his unique perspective of the Way. There is much controversy, however, regarding whether Laozi was the actual author of this text or was even a real person, and his work is thought to have been a composite. (For the purpose of clarity, throughout this paper, the author(s) of The Daodejing will be mentioned as Laozi.) Laozi s vision of the Way is exceptionally challenging to define using words because of its metaphysical nature. Although this term is somewhat difficult to envision, it is what mankind should aspire and take action to be aligned with. According to Laozi, in readings in Classical Chinese Philosophy, the Way (or dao) is the source, sustenance, and ideal state of all things in the world (Laozi 158). It can be best thought of as the underlying guiding force of all events that occur in the universe, and mankind is closer to the Way when they realize that all things are interconnected and have an effect on one another. Shakespeare s Heart Of Darkness Relevance of Heart of Darkness Alexander Spirovski LITR 211 Professor David Auchter Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness contains both relevant and irrelevant elements to today s society. Issues present in the text such as imperialism, racism, and moral ambiguity are still present today but their formats have changed enough in society that Heart of Darkness approaches obsolescence in perspective. Concurrently, the characters and theme presented in Heart of Darkness are scarce in fictional British literature therefore allowing this book to remain quite relevant. As we read more books, our ability to form informed opinions increases. Imperialism in Heart of Darkness is prompted by pursuit of natural resources such as ivory under the guise of the benevolent deed of civilizing primitive savage tribes of Africa. What occurs is the widespread enslavement of Africans by Europeans via forced labor, physical beatings, chained bondage, and denial of basic necessities such as food, clothing, and medicine, as seen here: Six black men advanced in a file, toiling up the path. They walked erect and slow, balancing small baskets full of earth on their heads, and the clink kept time with their footsteps. Black rags were wound round their loins, and the short ends behind waggled to and fro like tails. Because this book is much longer, I believe that children can really learn the moral and understand what the book is trying to teach them which is to be nice to all even though some may be different. It teaches children not to single others out because of their looks or their actions because you never know what they are going to grow up to be. The pictures back up what the author is trying to say, the reader can see that the other ducks and ducklings kicked him out because he was different and the hunting dogs didn t even want to mess with him because he was ugly. Preliminary Chemistry Assessment Task 1 Jessica Kuang 11CH3 Question 1: (4 marks) Construct a timeline to summarise the development of the Periodic Table and the major contributions made by notable scientists (up to G Seaborg) Question 2: (8 marks) (a) The elements lithium, sodium and potassium formed one of the original triads used to show that elements could be grouped . What scientific evidence did scientists have to justify this grouping of elements? Johann Dobereiner, a German chemist, suggested the grouping of elements with similar properties into clusters of three triads. He discovered that when arranged in ascending atomic mass, in the case of lithium, sodium and potassium, sodium s atomic mass was approximately the arithmetic mean of lithium and potassium. There was also a correlation between the atomic numbers, (Li 3, Sodium 11, Potassium 19) which showed the mean of the lowest and highest atomic numbers equalled the atomic number of the middle element. (b) Identify two other triads which were identified during the early construction of the Periodic Table. The other two triads are sulfur, selenium and tellurium and chlorine, bromine and iodine. (c) In 1864, John Newlands observed that the properties of the known elements varied periodically with their atomic masses. Rather, it is more accurate to think of international system as made up of rational states that exhibit growing interdependence. To what extent does the Mise en Scene in Night of the Hunter reinforce an understanding of the film s mood, character and narrative themes? The term Mise en Scene is used to signify the director s control over what happens in the film frame. In English the phrase literally translates to putting in the scene (Bordwell, 2010a). Night of the Hunter (Charles Laughton, 1955) is a prime example of a film that uses aspects of Mise en Scene to sway the audience s opinions of characters and their understanding of narrative themes and to create a certain atmosphere in the film. However, even when he is composed the actor still manages to give an unsettling performance. Although a lot of this is communicated through lighting techniques and non diegetic music, the actor was required to give a rather edgy performance. This performance in Night of the Hunter allows, in the narrative, the more strong minded characters such as John Harper and Rachel Cooper to see through his disingenuity. We are shown Rachel Cooper and John Harper s discomfort by their facial expressions, most prominently when Reverend Powell is giving his speeches about love and hate. The costume of Reverend Powell is also instrumental to the narrative in Night of the Hunter as the he relies upon his typical preacher outfit to fool the unsuspecting characters, the costume having obvious connotations of good morals.
