Honey Bees Essay
Bees are buzzing away Honey bees have been dying due to diseases and poor nutrition. Also the
pesticides that farmers put on their crops add to this problem. The problems started to happen when
bees started to have poor nutrition and this caused them to get diseases. The bees started to die out and
there were not enough to pollinate the flowers. It affects us in many ways too. But for the past decade
more bees have been vanishing. by Lindsay Lowe, paragraph 8. The government is working on
solutions to fix the honey bees problem. There are problems and solutions so now, let s talk about why

Remember The Titans Is An Inspirational Story Of Racial...
The definition of sport is an athletic activity that involves physical action and usually with
competition. The movie Remember the Titans is an inspirational story of racial struggle and obstacles
for a high school football team and town. A stunning and remarkable plot that demonstrated how
prejudice and racism can be overcome for the good of people. Football is America s popular sport. It is
a favorite sport to watch on TV and people love football because of its strategic concept of offense and
defense plays for success. Football combines running, kicking and passing all in one game and the
team with the best skills usually wins. The movie, Remember the Titans take place in 1971 at a
desegregated T.C. Williams High School in a racist city, Alexandria, Virginia. The beginning of the
movie sets the tone of the storyline of how negative relationships between different race and ethnic
groups were acceptable. The school is forced into integration with a black school, therefore hires a
black football coach named Herman Boone. The town parents and players are outraged that a black
man was going to be their new head coach. The previous coach, Bill Yoast had a winning season and
was nominated for the Virginia High School Hall of Fame. Coach Yoast gained the support and love in
the community. The white football players were also upset having a black coach and threatened to quit
the team if Coach Yoast was replaced while the blacks were very happy. This is the first time the

How Can Direct Action Be Effective
Sometimes in order to change something for good, one must or many must do what s wrong but must
be willing to face the consequences that come with it. Not consequences for doing illegal acts of
demonstrations but instead for doing what they were being advised to not do. Letter from Birmingham
Jail by Martin Luther King Jr., he states that there are four basic steps in a non violent campaign.
Kings says they are collection of the facts to determine whether injustices exist, negotiation, self
purification, and direct action. (King) In the letter he also explains why direct action can be effective,
he says Non violent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and foster such a tension that a
community which has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the ... Show more content

During the 1960 s, Native Americans in the San Francisco Bay believed it was time to try and advance
Indian rights. A group of activists decided to take over Alcatraz penitentiary after it had been
abandoned. They were there for nineteen months, claiming ownership by right of discovery citing
from Sioux Treaty of 1868. The protest was a direct action play towards the U.S. government and was
done to try and preserve Native Americans way of life and meets Kings requirements to a successful
act of civil disobedience.
There are always the right and wrong way to accomplish something. King has four rules for a
successful campaign of direct action. One of them would be the collection of the facts to determine
whether injustices exist. (King) This means that there must be proof of any kind of wrong doing in
order to decide whether or not it is time for change. It should fall within the guideline of the
Declaration of Independence which states All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their

Essay on Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
In 1818 a novel was written that tingled people s minds and thrilled literary critics alike. Frankenstein
was an instant success and sold more copies than any book had before. The immediate success of the
book can be attributed to the spine tingling horror of the plot, and the strong embedded ethical
message. Although her name did not come originally attached to the text, Mary Shelley had written a
masterpiece that would live on for centuries.
Nearly 200 movies have been adapted from the text since the birth of Hollywood. Most recently
though (1994), is Kenneth Brannaugh s rendition entitled Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. Although
Brannaugh makes a spectacular attempt to emulate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The book is written as a frame narrative, but this sort of presentation is almost impossible to reproduce
on screen. Robert Walton s letters to his sister, and the monster s long autobiographical narratives were
both omitted from the film for this reason. A big asset to narrative voice is the reader acquires a more
thorough impression of the charter s thoughts and feelings. Without the use of this literary tool,
Brannaugh had to rearrange scenes, add dialect where there was none before, and depend on the
superb theatrical ability of the actors.
The movie starts off very true to the text with Walton s ship becoming logged in the ice in the arctic.
Despite some minor changes, the film follows the book pretty closely until the death of Frankenstein s
mother is described. In the novel, she contracts scarlet fever after caring for Elizabeth, and died
calmly...her countenance express[ing] affection even in death (Shelley, 72). In the movie, she
collapses while dancing with Victor, and soon after dies while giving birth to his brother William. This
scene is filled with screaming, blood and gruesome images as the mother dies in a fit of pain and
agony. Victor runs into his mother s room and is met by the site of her covered in blood and lain
strewn on a broken chair. He then proceeds to throw himself on top of her and cry bring her back, oh

The Music Of The Digital Age
In today s digital age, the record industry is booming and in 2014 alone recorded music generated
almost 15 billion dollars, ( Global Recorded Music Sales Totalled US $15 billion in 2014. ) and now,
more than ever is the best time to capitalize on it. Due to the increased value of music and money that
is being brought in from such artists as Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, and Kanye West music is
becoming a money making game. There are many start up indie labels that are capitalizing on local
music scenes all around the world. By doing this they earn money, as well as promoting originality
and exposing music that should be heard by the masses. Because the DIY music scene is booming,
with places such as Brooklyn, LA, Philly and Austin all on the rise, now is a great time to promote,
record and expose tomorrow s future stars. For me and my label, Basement Tapes Records, I am going
to create a record label that is different than the rest. I will only sign and promote unknown artists who
have the potential to be great. I plan keeping everything in house that includes, production, promotion,
revenue, and having producers that only work for my label. By doing all of these things I feel as
though I can build Basement Tapes Records, to be a successful, money making, label. Originality and
the ability to be different are crucial in today s music world. By being different I am more likely to
attract more attention from people, other labels and most importantly, potential acts. Music

organisms are selected based off of easily noted physical characteristics, their small sizes and
relatively short generation time, and also being readily available to use and tractable. That is why
Drosophila melanogaster is a great model organisms because it fits all these characteristics. I propose

made two culture vials by first placing about 1.5 cm of flakes along with about four grains of yeast
into each vial. Then, with a glass pipette, a solution of water and 1% propionic acid is added to the
flakes and yeast to hydrate them. This will cause the flakes and yeast to turn blue, and the solution is
added until it is a consistent bright blue color where no isolated flakes are visible (it is helpful to mash
up the flakes and yeast). Once the necessary color is established, the vials need to sit for about eight to
ten hours. If whenever, at any time during the experiment, the media cracks or has a faded color, the
fly solution is to be added once more to rehydrate the media. After the media is made, a net is folded
lengthwise first and then placed into the vial in a shape of a U so that flies will be able to pupate.
Finally, the vials were labeled with a vial number according to the cross setup, the date made, our

During the Cold War, the Soviets were trying to spread communism throughout Europe and Asia by
exalting its achievements, and undermining democracy. Part of their approach was by launching Hate
America propaganda. As the Cold War intensified, the Truman administration launched an aggressive
Campaign of Truth [...] to counter the Soviet Union propaganda machine (Ubah, 2012). The Campaign
of Truth was created to help convince the world that the United States has no purpose of going to war,

Non Human Primate Culture
This research paper will discuss the ways in which non human primates use different sound and
gestures to convey different feeling and emotions toward one another like humans. A primate is a
mammal of an order that includes the Lemurs, Bushbabies, Tarsiers, Marmosets, Monkeys, Apes, and
Humans (Oxford). What makes us human are our language, our culture, and our behavior. We as
humans have feelings of joy, sadness, fear, anger, trust, and so much more, but have we ever stopped
to wonder how or if our nonhuman primate relatives have and use these emotions just like us. These
next couple paragraphs will explain and discuss what emotions are felt and how emotions are
conveyed in the nonhuman primate culture. Primates have always been viewed as a species that
communicates by hand signals and other bodily gestures. The view that is now seen is that
comparative evidence suggests that primates are able, no less than humans, to intellectually perform
and understand impulsive or habitual communicational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We gather food, we protect one another, we support and raise the young, and none of this would be
possible without some form of communication. Monkeys in particular have evolved many ways of
communicating such as visual cues, auditory calls, and even some olfactory signals (PBS). Visual calls
are obviously unable to be here, therefore it must be seen. The Emperor Tamarin uses a visual call by
sticking her tongue out at her mate so he knows she wants a break from holding her young (PBS). Not
all auditory calls are the same, there are various sounds that can be strung to be very long or can be
simple and short. The loudness, the pitch, and the duration of a certain call are all important aspects of
the meaning of the call. The different kinds of calls include alarm calls, territorial calls, food calls,
personal identification calls, dominance class, and so

Trumpeter Swan Research Paper
The Trumpeter Swan is an immense waterfowl with a heavy body and long neck; they can stretch to 6
feet in length and can weigh more than 25 pounds. These waterfowl can be found in North America,
Alaska, and Canada. They are known as one of the heaviest flying birds and are almost twice as big as
a Tundra Swan. The color pattern they are known for is their entirely white body and black legs and
bill. Immatures are a grayish brown with a mottled bill that is black at the base. During migration, the
Trumpeter Swan can be confused with the Tundra Swan. A few ways in which they differ is that the
juvenile swan s plumage persists until spring migration, they have narrower heads, and are larger.
These birds once nested over most of North America but began to disappear due to human
disturbance. However, due to conservation efforts that have been focused on reintroducing the species,
they are having a healthy comeback. Trumpeter Swans inhabit ponds, lakes, and rivers; in winter, they
may even inhabit bays. Historically, they seemed to favor fresh water over salt water, but that
description no longer applies to them. They forage in shallow water and on land, and will occasionally

They would migrate as far south as Texas and California. In 1960, their breeding range was also said
to stretch as far as Missouri and Nebraska. However, in the 1930s, fewer than 100 swans remained in
Canada. Their rapid disappearance started in the 1600s, when hunters began to overhunt them for their
meat, skin, and feathers. By the late 1800s, their populations were decimated. It was also assumed that
the loss of muskrats and beavers harmed Trumpeter Swan populations due to the fact they use their
dens and dams. However, due to conservation projects, the species were able to recover by the early
2000s. They are now being reintroduced to certain areas, such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio, and

creates a fantasy world where she doesn t have to face the reality of her lonely insecure life, until it all
comes crashing down in front of her in a matter of moments. This story, although really short is very
compelling because the author has managed to put the reader inside of Miss Brills mind letting us in
on all her insecurities and thoughts. Out of fear, people build walls isolating themselves from society.
Consequently, causing them to go all their life being lonely and miserable. Fear of loneliness being the
central theme is emphasized with major symbols throughout this story. The author suggests that being

Lab Exercise At Room Temperature Equal
Introduction:
Many of molecular biology and chemistry involves working with very small volumes. A micropipette
is standard laboratory equipment used to measure and dispense a specific volume of liquid (#5
buffalostate.edu). This is a very helpful tool that we need to master and able to use in a biochemistry
lab. The purpose of this lab exercise is learning how to use a micropipette to find the density of
different liquids, and be able to identify an unknown liquid using density. Also, learn how to evaluate
the experimental accuracy, precise, and error of small volumes used in biochemistry based on the
theory that 1gram of water at room temperature equal 1millimeter (#1 Bruice). If the density of water

Based on the theoretical density, the density of water, methanol, and glycerol that obtained in the
experiment should be the same or close to these values above. If the experiment performs correctly
with high precise and accuracy, then density of the unknown can be used to identify the present
chemical substance. The expect outcome for this experiment is the value you obtained will be close or
exact the theoretical values. In this exercise, all of the micropipettes measured in the form of a
microliter. There are different models of micropipettes have different minimum and maximum limits.
The two micropipettes we were used for this experiment are P1000 and P100. The correct
micropipettes were chose based on the volume of the liquid that needs to be measure. Micropipettes
should never go past the set limits, either lower or higher. It will cause the micropipettes to not
function correctly or will measure incorrect volumes. The maximum sizes are showed on top of the

Magical Realism In The Movie Big Fish
Magical Realism Essay
Imagine a world where toys are alive, where superpowers are an average thing to have, a world in
which one can do whatever their imagination allows them too. In this sense, magical realism is like a
dream, in a dream anything can happen, and while one is dreaming, they feel as if it is all a reality, as
if they are actually living in these alternate versions of existence. This real world setting is what
separates magical realism from other fiction related genres. Though traces of magical realism date
back to the 1700 s, it was really only recognized as a genre in the twentieth century. There are many
fundamental elements that separate magical realism from other fictional stories.

narrator describes an old man with huge buzzard wings which is said to be an angel with powers to

christian bible, so they are not surprised to see this angel with powers. As a matter of fact, they even

described in the bible. Also, in Anaya s book, a house in Agua Negra, a small Ranch, is being cursed

dealing with witches and ghosts, but to the reader it is an incredible thing that is never seen in the real
world. That is the power of magical realism, having unrealistic things happen in real

Why the Police were Unable to Catch Jack the Ripper Essay
Why the Police were Unable to Catch Jack the Ripper
In the Victorian Times, smog was a big problem. It made visibility extremely bad, so the murders
would have been harder to witness. There were lots of prostitutes because there weren t many jobs
available for woman, so they were forced on the streets. Most turned to alcohol. The people out at the
time of the murder would have been tramps and drunks, not reliable witnesses. The East End streets
were maze like, and easy to escape from. These were a few of the problems the police encountered.

have been taken.
The police had only just been set up when the murders occurred, so had no previous experience. The
only way to prove someone committed a murder was to catch them in the act or get a confession.
Though they increased the number of officers, they only ever came across the bodies, warm. There
was more than one police force operating in London at the time, which meant that there was a lack of
communication. In fact, the superior officers told their subordinates to not reveal any evidence they
retrieved to their rival force, each police force wanting the glory of catching the Whitechapel
murderer. The Metropolitan police force was responsible for all of London, except the city of London,
which had its own separate, City Police force. They were both working on the case because one of the
murders had been committed in the area where the City Police operated, as opposed to the other ones
which occurred in the Metropolitan police forces area. The Detective methods were not

Syntax In Letter From Birmingham Jail
Words have the ability to spark change in the world around us; the way one conducts and organizes his
words can start an innovation among a world of blind people. In 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. was
imprisoned in the Birmingham Jail for being a participant in a non violent demonstration against
segregation. While imprisoned, he wrote the infamous Letter from Birmingham Jail in response to a
public statement of concern issued by eight white religious leaders of the South. King brings hope for
positive change that the white clergymen will understand the underlying problems and the necessity
for an alternative mindset . He stresses on the need for action and acceptance of colored people with
his influential words, rather sooner than later. By inspiring sympathy through emotional and credible
appeals and demonstrating an obvious logic through sophisticated syntax, King effectively argues the
need for a civil rights movement. King s powerful words are intended to create compassion and
empathy for the humans who suffer from segregation. But when you have seen vicious mobs lynch ...

The Civil War And Reconstruction Period Essay
The Civil War and Reconstruction period provided African American people with a legal definition of
citizenship through three constitutional amendments. Beginning with the 13th Amendment slavery
was abolished, then 14th Amendment provided equal protection under the law, and lastly the 15th
Amendment allowed all men, including African Americans, the ability to vote. However, the transition
from enslavement to freedom was a difficult and terrifying one for most black women as they had
little or no money, limited or no education and little access to it, and faced racism that impacted every
aspect of their lives. However, the Reconstruction period in America promised African Americans a
new life of freedom with the same inalienable rights provided to other American citizens and allowed
for many social reforms to take place during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries due to
the efforts of African American women. The period from the 1860s to the turn of the twentieth
century, or the Reconstruction period, marked a transitional era of mixing a new socioeconomic and
political infrastructure into the United States. Reconstruction was a comprehensive era that united the
once disregarded demographic groups of African Americans into mainstream America. With
emancipation of blacks throughout the nation and the post war constitutional amendments, this period
observed the historical extension of social and political liberties to four million emancipated African
Americans.

Greek Influence On Modern Day Heroes
Ancient heroes are important to our understanding of modern heroes because they helped shape our
heroes today. This can be seen because Cesar Chavez also completed hero tasks that were done in
ancient times. This can also be seen because our modern day heroes reflect back to the ancient ones
for a example. The ancient heroes help show what modern days hero would be like. If our ancient
heroes helped shape our modern day heroes than it is possible that our modern day heroes will affect
the heroes that have yet to come. Heroes stand up for what they believe in. Achilles did not fight for

The Biblical Worldview Of A Worldview
A worldview is a compilation of one s belief that will help determine how one will react and
communicate based on new ideas, issues, disagreements, and in general, life s challenges; it is what
one relies on in order to answer those tough questions in relation to today s issues. A worldview will
determine how you look at any situation, from abortion, religion, gay marriage or to more mundane
issues, it is that innate belief that you have formulated in your life that will determine those outcomes
and how others will possibly perceive you to be. Word Count: 93 words Part II The biblical worldview
of our Origin started with God; He created our world, and all that exists within it, everything within
six days (Gen.1.1). God created man in His own likeness on the fifth day, out of dust, Adam was
made; Out of Adam s rib, woman was created (Gen.1.27, Gen.2.7). God is the great creator, He has
always been and always will be. Unlike theories that try to explain creation in just being a whimsical
roll of the dice, that somehow from a Big Bang explosion, life simply emerging cannot be; the
complexity of all of creation could not be something that just happened by luck. A master designer can
be the only explanation to explain how this beautiful, complex world came to be in all of its glory and
richness, down to the most specific detail, as well as how man was created from nothing. Man, unlike
all other animals, was the only one created in God s image. He gave man authority over all

Thank You For Being Late By Thomas L. Friedman
Technology plays a major role in our everyday life, and has caused numerous advantages, and
disadvantages that have reshaped the world and the methods we use. Thomas L. Friedman, a New
York Times author and three time Pulitzer winner, combined his studies, travels, and many interviews
with high and low placed movers, to create this book, Thank you for being late. He explains
technology and humans involvement with it, or as he explicitly describes it The three largest forces on
the planet technology, globalization, and climate change are all accelerating at once. Addressing and

The impact of these resources we have available are inevitable, since they are all around us, and every
day society gets more updated. Thank you for being late, gave me a better understanding of digital
technology and its effect on society. Artificial Intelligence has come a long way since it started, and
will keep prospering as the digital age keeps innovating. Which relates to Moore s Law regarding how
the speed of rate for computer processing will double every two years, and how I can apply it to my
personal life. Programs, and the digital age will continue to develop, and modernize which is why I
have to adapt to my surroundings as best as I can. As well as use the tools and resources the digital age
have given me in order to be successful in my future career. I have to keep up to date with the new
software, and opportunities that technology brings, because even if you do not make use of them, they
will not stop evolving. As Friedman concludes in the book, times change faster than we realize, and
that is why we as individuals and nations have to adapt by being innovative, open to change, and
taking a moment to shut out the rest of the world, and acknowledging our surroundings and giving
value to it. I would recommend this book to any of my friends, and to anyone in my generation since it
is a book that addresses the present and all of the digital changes that we as a society have been going
through, Specifically, the next generation, as Friedman states is the generation that is: going to be
asked to dance in a hurricane (Friedman). In conclusion, it is an eye opening and insightful guide
towards technology and the effect it is bringing to us, with a silver lining in the end of how we can
actually overcome it, and how we can strive in the society and era we live

San Francisco Bay Case
December 1968, two bodies of young teenagers were found at San Francisco Bay. The teenagers were
one female and one male between the ages 16 and 17. They were found dead outside of their car when
the crime scene unit arrived on the scene they examined the vehicle as well as the vicinity. All to no
avail the crime seemed to be lacking a sexual component. Investigators assumed that the young couple
were victims of robbery but that was not the case. All of their possessions including the money had
been left untouched. Basically according to investigators the couple were victims of opportunity. Six

An Exchange Of Royal Correspondence Analysis
An Exchange of Royal Correspondence is about two rulers of the different countries, who were
exchanging letters. In this particular piece of historic event the King Louis XIV of France was asking
for permission of the King of Tokin so France could spread their Christianity in Vietnam. But the King
of Tokin denied the permission because in Vietnam there existed an ancient religion. The historian
needs to ask questions about these documents to make sure that they are not biased or wrote on

people their religion? This question reflects on the reason behind his denied to convert into

Importance Of Pollution Prevention Act 1990
THE BARRIERS TO EFFECTIVE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE POLLUTION PREVENTION
ACT OF 1990
BABAJIDE DARE FAGBOLA
American Military University
EVSP411: Environmental Policy, Regulation, and law
Prof: Lisa Browning
NOVEMBER, 2017
The Pollution Prevention Act 1990 (PPA) came into existence in order to raise the interest in reducing
pollution from the source or in another word Pollution Prevention in a way which encourages efficient
cost reduction practice from the source.
This policy by the United State according to this act mandated that pollution be prevented and most
especially reduced from the source. It further states that, in an instance where pollution in unavoidably
or unable to be prevented, then recycling of such waste should be done considering the safety and well
being of the environment and the people. In a case where it is not possible to prevent pollution or
recycled, such need to be treated in a safe manner to protect to reduce any hazardous environment
(Burnett, 2000).
The act explains source reduction as such practice that will reduce the quality of all hazardous
substance, pollution or any contaminant that enters waste stream or that is released to the environment
before it is recycled, treated or disposed. It is a means to reduce any hazards caused to the health of
the public and the ecosystem in connection with the release of any pollutant.
PPA empowered EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) to develop and co ordinate all pollution

English 101 Reflection
Throughout this semester in English 101, I have made a significant improvement on multiple things,
including how to be an exceptional writer and thinker. English has always been one of my most
favored subjects to study because to me it instructs students how to be intelligent, how to become a
more creative and critical thinker, and be able to develop ethical values and imagination. You can
express yourself more efficiently in English than you can in any other subject. This class has truly
made me a more confident writer and helped me express myself in different ways through the different
types of papers I wrote. By writing different types of papers I have improved multiple areas of my

What Is An Indicator For System Generation And Consumption...
Grid frequency $f$ can be considered as an indicator for system generation and consumption power
balance, when an imbalance occurs the power system frequency will change accordingly.
One of the responsibility s of a transmission system operators is to operate the electric grid at a certain
system frequency which is the nominal grid frequency $f_{0}$, 50 Hz in Europe, where the torque is
continually adjusted to keep the system frequency at the nominal grid frequency. in equation (1)
Where $Tgen$ is the generated torque, $Tload$ is the consumed torque including grid losses torque

In the recent situation of the connected power grid for the ECSA, the amount of residual inertia
$J_{res}$ needed to prevent a blackout is decided by ROCOF limits regulations which is in our case

that of already available biomass and hydro units which is between /1.5s 4s/ cite{hh}, we get a
maximum rated power in the magnitude of 20$GW$ which is to put in context Significantly lower
than the total installed hydro power capacity of 136 $GW$ in the EU 27, with an additional 62 $GW$

Turkey, Croatia and Iceland combined cite{hydro}, so it is clear that hydro along with other RES
such as biomass can generate the needed $J_{res}$ for the scenario discussed without calculating
existing synchronous generators inertia nor calculating the inertia generated from synchronous loads,
in other words even by the continuous decrease in synchronous generation inertia it won`t be expected
to not have enough inertia in the EU 27 power system to cover a blackout scenario in case of a single
fault with a load generation of 3 $GW$ in

that it is wrong to believe in anything without sufficient evidence with reference to the non existence
of God. It will be exploring both a priori and an a posteriori argument for the existence of God. It will
solely be concentrating on the Theological argument, Cosmological argument and the Ontological
argument, in order, to analyse their significance and contribution in vindicating the claim for the
existence of God. The essay will begin by providing a clear philosophical characterisation of the God

The Teleological argument is a posteriori and inductive argument. It is based on the observation of
order in the world, and that the complexity of the universe shows evidence of design. This design
implies a designer; capable and sentient, and this designer is God. The argument is split into two parts:
design qua purpose and design qua regularity (Jordan, et al., 2002). Design qua regularity looks at the
evidence of design, found in the order and regularity in the universe (Jordan, et al., 2002). It was first
developed in the 13th century by St Thomas Aquinas, who in his fifth way in Summa Theologica,
argued that the world of nature is like an arrow shot from an archer s bow, it has direction and purpose
even if it lacks awareness as some intelligent being exists by whom all natural things are directed to
their end: and this being we call God (Aquinas, 2009, p. 23). William Paley, another key contributor in
of the Teleological argument, uses the planetary movements and Newton s laws of motion are also
specific examples to provide evidence for design qua regularity part of the argument (Paley Ware,
1857).
Design qua purpose looks at the evidence of design in relation to the ways in which the parts of the
universe appear to fit together for some purpose. William Paley put forward the most famous form of
the design qua purpose argument in his book Natural Theology (Paley Ware, 1857). Paley used the
analogy of a watch and suggested

Interview And Tour Of The Grand Rapids Ele s Place Branch
The Interview Taylor Drayton and I interviewed Kelly Ahti on February 29th, 2016 at 10:00am. Kelly

Challenges/Barriers
One thing that kept coming up in our conversation with Kelly was their need for more funding. They
survive completely on donations and receive no state funding. Therefore, Ele s Place as Kelly put it,
runs pretty thin. She said they always need more money for advertising and more staff so that they can
reach more children. Across all four branches of Ele s Place, there are only 51 staff employees.
Because of this, they heavily rely on volunteers, which can be a tricky business. We talked about how
it s sometimes hard to keep volunteers accountable and when it takes on average 25 volunteers to run
just one night of programs, it can be very difficult when volunteers don t show up. She also mentioned
that because there are so few employees, they all have to wear many hats to keep the programs
running. Another challenge that Kelly mentioned was society s ideas about children and grief. She told
us that the Ele s Place staff is often confronted with this idea that children don t really grieve, and if
they do, it s only in brief moments and doesn t require any counseling or services to aid in their
recovery. She also noted that there is a stigma around talking about death in our society. Kelly

Should Congress Close Guantanamo Bay Naval Station And...
Introduction There is a problem in the United States. There is an excess of terrorists and having the
most powerful nation on Earth means that these terrorists often end up in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
This prison is based on 45 square miles of land that is known more commonly as Gitmo. Most people
believe Guantanamo is a good concept but has gone terribly wrong. The government needs to do
something because with the current proposal from President Obama, detainees would be moved
ashore and abroad, which would not fix the problem. The problem is, what do we do with all these
terrorists? If this proposal passes through, people will be worried and need answers about Gitmo. Why
should the most dangerous people in the world come on American soil?
Research Question
Should Congress close Guantanamo Bay Naval Station and Prison?
Research
Guantanamo Bay opened in 2002 and since then more than 700 detainees have been held there. In
1991, approximately 34,000 Haitian refugees are detained on the base after they flee a coup in Haiti.
In 1994 1995, more than 55,000 Cubans and Haitians, captured at sea, are kept at Guantanamo. These
are not considered detainees because they are not American prisoners, but Cuban. At its peak in 2003,
Guantanamo held nearly 680 detainees, and there were about 245 when President Obama took office.
The life standards at Guantanamo are the worst in human history. Murat Kurnaz spent five years in

Man s Search For Meaning By Victor Frankl
Author Victor E. Frankl wrote a book called Man s Search for Meaning. He had always fantasized
about being a doctor from a young age. He lived in Vienna, and studied medicine, psychology and
logotherapy which is the healing through meaning. In 1942 his family was arrested and taken to
Theresienstadt in Bohemia. His family had died in the camp except his sister; she was the only one to
survive besides him. He began to write a script while in the camps he was in (he moved to 3 different
camps during the holocaust). It was called, The Doctor and The Soul. He wrote it on pieces of paper
he found in the camps. In 1945 his camp was set free and he finished his manuscript. When he got out,
he became the director of the Vienna Neurological Policlinic. ... Show more content on

When he is explaining his experience he discusses how he tried to understand the minds of the people
suffering around him. In the book he describes his admittance into the camp, the everyday camp
schedule and his release from the camp. When he is talking about his involvement in the camp he
noticed many people experienced shock. As a part of this he noticed most people believed that the
gassing would be stopped or delayed right before their execution. There was always a tiny hope
fluctuation around in the camps that they would live to see freedom. Once people started to lose
optimism that they would survive, suicides were common and majority of the prisoners lacked
enthusiasm and energy which created emotional emptiness. He thought that people had the ability to
governor and choose their piety and mental stability. Frankl said that people struggled with not
knowing when the torment and suffering would end. He thought that people who couldn t foresee
themselves getting out lost control of their mental stability. When freedom does eventually arrive for
those who had survived they had a hard time accepting it because they never thought it would happen.
He states that some prisoners weren t even happy about being released. Once they were released the
former prisoners had to relearn how to experience things that didn t revolve around suffering. Once
the holocaust is over and everyone has been released the book goes on to describe the techniques to
help people that are still mentally ill from the horrifying experience. He states that the only way to
help them find their meaning for life is Logotherapy. He thinks you can discover it in 3 ways which
are to perform a deed, experience something and display an attitude toward suffering. A

So to have higher data transfer rate at lower power consumption we move onto Gi Fi technology.
➢ The 802.11b and 802.11g flavours of Wi Fi use the 2.4 GHz spectrum, which is crowded with other
devices such as Bluetooth, microwave ovens, cordless phones, or video sender devices, among many
others. This may cause degradation in performance. Other devices which use microwave frequencies
such as certain types of cell phones can also cause degradation in performance.
➢ Power consumption is fairly high compared to other standards, making battery life and heat a
concern.
➢ Not always configured properly by user. Commonly uses WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)
protocol for protection, though has been shown to be easily breakable. Newer wireless solutions are
slowly providing support for the superior WPA (Wi Fi Protected Access) protocol, though many
systems still employ WEP.

An initial new hire and employee ethics training has to be develop and administered. Also on going
ethics refresher training for use throughout the employees career with Company Q will need to be
incorporated in the program. Systems will be developed and put in place to monitor, audit, and report
ethics violations. A time line to re evaluate these programs and their effectiveness towards meeting the
companies social responsibility goals will be established. Based on the evaluation a revision or
revamp of the program if necessary will be initiated. The ethics program needs to be reviewed and
understood by all employees and expectation for compliance very clear. This can be accomplish by
tying compliance in some form to employees and leadership individual performance goals.
Shareholders all the way down to entry level employees will benefit from the ethics program which
will also put the company on track to being more socially responsible. Once a code of ethics is in
place and training has been given, then Company Q can begin developing trust within the company
and employees as well as the community. Continued education and training will enable the company
to become more socially responsible.

The United States Illogical Practice of Democratic Peace...
The idea of a lasting, ideally global, peace has been present in the minds of people for centuries. The
most notable formulation of this is Kant s vision of perpetual peace. He saw it as a condition that
needed to be maintained by politics between states with governments which represented society and
separation of power. From this basic framework stems the idea called democratic peace theory (pg.
82). Democratic Peace Theory (DPT) asserts that democracies do not generally fight other
democracies because they share common norms and domestic institutions that constrain international,
state actors from going to war. Sebastian Rosato states, In practical terms democratic peace theory
provides the intellectual justification for the belief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The normative side of the theory, while powerful, can be a double edged sword. Implementing the
normative side theory can be dangerous according to an individuals or groups subjective
interpretation. The idea of global peace and security is so seductive that normative logic can be used to
justify war. Woodrow Wilson, a firm believer in Kant s ideas, told Congress, The world must be made
safe for democracy when asking it to declare war on Germany. Furthermore, the justification for war
in Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003, allowed George W. Bush and Tony Blair to state they are
bringing democracy to Afghanistan (pg. 20).Subjective interpretation of what democracy is can be
used to validate aggression.
Institutional Logic Institutional logic states, Democratic institutions and processes make leaders
accountable to a wide range of social groups that may, in a variety of circumstances, oppose war
(Rosato, pg. 587). The accountability of political elites wanting to stay in office means they must be
ready to discredit unpopular policies and align themselves with other elites who share the same
interests. Democratic states also allow for freedom of speech and a supposedly transparent political
process, meaning the mass public can monitor and rate the government s performance holding these
leaders accountable. However, Roasto states, because they are conscious of their

Using Data From The British Election Study
This paper is a research project that uses data from the British Election Study. The study has responses
from 2987 participants selected at random for the survey. The survey asks a variety of questions
regarding the elections and the perceptions of the participants. The questions include responses for
voting preferences, issues faced in the elections of 2015, inclination of the voter towards left or right,
taxation and spending views, views of respondents regarding immigration, economic status and so
forth. The response scales used are close ended with multiple choice and Likert scale questions on a
scale of one to ten being used. Due to the large amount of data and the variety of information asked,
this report will restrict itself to testing a few hypotheses, which will be targeted towards specific areas,
and which can be proved or disproved through use of cross tabulation analysis based on data obtained
in the survey. It has been noted that the economic status of a voter tends to impact the political
leanings of the voter. It was noted in a survey carried out in the USA that wage levels were an
indicator of voter preferences where people who earned less than $70,000 noted to lean towards the
liberal, Democratic Party, while those who earned more tended to be more conservative in leaning
towards the Republican Party (Thompson, 2012). Another study conducted in Malaysia concluded that
voters consider the economic conditions of the country before voting for a government, and

Dinosaur extinction: An analysis of events and theories that possibly led to the dinosaurs demise.
Ever since the history of Earth has been studied using fossil records, extinctions have always been the
object of fascination and interest, particularly the mass extinctions that occurred throughout Earth s
history. A mass extinction can be caused by disruptive global environmental changes, where large
numbers of species have become extinct (Urry et al. 2008). There have been five major extinctions
documented based on fossil records over the past 500 million years, but the Cretaceous (KT boundary

According to the research made by Alvarez (1980), it was due to an asteroid impact that single
handedly destroyed dinosaurs to extinction. Advocacy of this mechanism has been aided by the
availability and tangibility of supporting evidence in the form of impact craters the Chicxulub crater in
the Yucatan Peninsula s date and timing of impact (dating produced an almost exact date of 65 million
years ago), location, enormous size 170 km (Hildebrand et al.1991) and its high iridium content ( a
metal not commonly found at the Earth s surface) make it seem that with a theoretical asteroid 10 km
big caused the crater great damage at the end of the Cretaceous (Alvarez et al. 1980).
How exactly the asteroid damaged the Earth remains unclear, but the power released by such an
impact is unquestionable. Effects possibly include reduced sunlight over a period of several months
which possibly led to the decline or even total halt of primary production (via photosynthesis). One of
the dominant signatures of the extinction at the KT boundary was the low activity of primary
production, the possibility of reduced sunlight is high (Schulte et al. 2010) . Even if the primary
production proved to be on a decline when this impact occurred, there is still some uncertainties as to
where exactly the impact hit. This was why asymmetries in subsurface features of the Chicxulub crater
were observed via geophysical methods were analyzed and it was calculated from estimates that the

The Competitive Landscape Of The Industry
INTRODUCTION To understand the competitive landscape of the industry in which one is
competing, it must understand how to formulate strategies that will create a profitable business. A
business must know what it is good at to be able to effectively have a competitive advantage over
other businesses within that industry. The profitability of Mylan Pharmaceuticals largely depends on
their ability to discover and market new drugs. The desire to cure illness and disease is what demands
pharmaceutical companies like Mylan to be empowered to do their very best. Companies like Mylan
Pharmaceuticals, profit from their economies of scale in research, manufacturing, and marketing. A
competitive strategy analysis will show why Mylan Pharmaceuticals is one of the leading generic and
specialty drug manufacturing companies in the world. MYLAN PHARMACEUTICALS In 1961,
Mylan (Milan in the beginning) started their business in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. From
the back of a Pontiac Bonneville, Army buddies, Milan Mike Puskar and Don Panoz, started

Hunter Gatherer Case Study
Questions to Answer: 1.) Some people consider farming the worst mistake in the history of the human
race . Many people are opinionated this way because Hunter Gatherers had to work less and were
overall healthier. Because Hunter Gatherers primarily ate meat, they consumed much more protein
than Farmers. Whereas Farmers mostly consumed the three main cereal grains back then (maize,
wheat, and rice). This did not enable the Farmers to have a varied diet like the Hunter Gatherers.
Although Farming produces more food per unit of land, Farmers had to work a lot longer and harder
than Hunter Gatherers to produce a less varied and less nutritious diet. There is proof that the Hunter
Gatherer lifestyle was much healthier when archaeologists unraveled ... Show more content on

The population in Europe more than doubled, but the population in the Americas decreased. The
population in Europe increased because food was transferred, which could feed more people, but
eventually decreased due to food shortages. This ties into the Malthusian Trap because Malthus
thought that food increases arithmetically and the population grows geometrically. This means that
there will eventually be too many people and not enough food. This leads to starvation. Malthus says
that the population and food should be kept equal. Also, the population in the Americas decreased, but
that was because Europeans transferred diseases to the Americans, which they were not immune

Economic Issues For Tata Steel
Economic Issues concerning Tata Steel
Tata Steel: A Global Entity
Tata Steel is a truly global company with a well established presence not only in India but around the
world in large economies as well as emerging economies.. In the year 2013, it was the 11th largest
steel producing company in the world and the second largest steel company in India (measured by
domestic production) after the State run entity Steel Authority of India Limited.
The 4 core economic issues that Tata Steel must factor in its decision making:
1) Understand the Global Market and operate within the rules.
2) Expansion plans must be carefully carried out.
3) Acquisitions and other partnerships must be carefully carried out.
4) Keep the finances and other key financials in check.

It has to be changing with time and evolve constantly with respect to technology, best practices,
working conditions etc.
Tata Steel s major competitors include ArcelorMittal, Essar Steel, Jindal Steel and Power, JSW Steel,
SAIL and VISA Steel.
Other economic issues include falling International Iron Ore prices and Job Cuts in the Steel Industry
which can affect morale:
Steelmakers in India and worldwide, including Tata Steel, have cut prices to remain competitive in the
face of cheap imports from China and Russia. Global steel prices have fallen in tandem with falling
iron ore prices internationally. Some of its competitors have seen losses to their financial numbers
because of this. Tata must factor in all the international and global conditions.
Tata Steel mothballed some plants and cut 2000 jobs in Europe recently to combat widening losses in
a market which haven t yet recovered from downturn in the steel industry last decade. The company
tried to sell its loss making long products business to Klesch but the deal fell through with no signs on
uptick in demand in the region.

Historical Context Of Le Corbusier
When considering the cultural and social aspects of a building, one must study the historical context of
its construction. In the 1920 s, European architecture was beginning to integrate traditional elements
with the new social demands for modern technology. Although many architects and engineers were
involved, Le Corbusier was the French architect who people today believe led this architectural
revolution in Europe. Few are aware of the fact that Pierre Chareau also played a significant role in
this modernist movement. Originally a furniture designer, the Maison de Verre was his first full scale
architectural project. Doctor Jean Dalsace and his wife Annie commissioned Chareau to design their
home and kept a binding friendship throughout and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As you walk through the typical Parisian entrance door of 31 Rue Saint Guillaume in the stylish sixth
arrondissement of Paris, you find yourself standing in front of a large glass box. Although one could
argue that the Maison de Verre is an interruption in the continuity of the Haussmannian buildings of
the neighbourhood, it is still hidden away and shielded from the public eye. It may look like the odd
one out, but it reflects the personality of Chareau himself as many architects today consider him as an
outsider . It must be remembered that the Maison de Verre, although an overall individual achievement
in the eyes of modern architecture, was a collaboration between Pierre Chareau and Bernard Bijvoet, a
contemporary Dutch architect who kept a low and modest profile in relation to the buildings he
contributed to. In addition, the skilled metalworker and craftsman Louis Dalbet contributed to the
fabrication of the mechanical toys. Although it received initial criticism for its controversial nature,
the Maison de Verre is a unique and significant contribution to 20th century architecture. Since its
construction, the Maison de Verre has proven to be a touchstone for architects throughout the world,
including Richard Rogers, Renzo Piano, Jean Nouvel, Glenn Murcutt and many others

Separation Of Public Spaces In To Kill A Mockingbird By...
The South was a volatile place when concerning the separation of the white and black communities.
Laws were put into place to solidify the separation of the races while providing equal opportunity to
all. However, these laws, known as the Jim Crow laws, were ratified to give the illusion of equality
while allowing for separation to continue. Though the image these laws held gave the impression of
equality, while the people did not hold equal status. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee explores the
racial tensions of separate but equal throughout the novel and how these ideas affected the daily lives
of those who lived during this time. Separation of public spaces and the relationships between the
people themselves are small examples of the realities of the laws effects on real people in the South.
The Jim Crow laws perpetuated the racial tension of the South rather than alleviating the problems by
sacrificing equality for the social norm of separation.
The physical separation of the white and black races was of great concern in the South and how each
of the races would interact with one another. This separation included preferential treatment of white
individuals over their black counterparts. While the people filed into the courthouse waiting for the
trial in To Kill a Mockingbird, the Negros, having waited for the white people to go upstairs, began to
come in (Lee 186). The physical separation continued as the Colored balcony ran along three walls of
the courtroom

Not consequences for doing illegal acts of demonstrations but instead for doing what they were being advised to not do. Letter from Birmingham Jail by Martin Luther King Jr., he states that there are four basic steps in a non violent campaign. Kings says they are collection of the facts to determine whether injustices exist, negotiation, self purification, and direct action. A group of activists decided to take over Alcatraz penitentiary after it had been abandoned. The protest was a direct action play towards the U.S. government and was done to try and preserve Native Americans way of life and meets Kings requirements to a successful act of civil disobedience. There are always the right and wrong way to accomplish something. King has four rules for a successful campaign of direct action. One of them would be the collection of the facts to determine whether injustices exist. (King) This means that there must be proof of any kind of wrong doing in order to decide whether or not it is time for change. • 5. Essay on Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Mary Shelley s Frankenstein In 1818 a novel was written that tingled people s minds and thrilled literary critics alike. Frankenstein was an instant success and sold more copies than any book had before. The immediate success of the book can be attributed to the spine tingling horror of the plot, and the strong embedded ethical message. Although her name did not come originally attached to the text, Mary Shelley had written a masterpiece that would live on for centuries. Nearly 200 movies have been adapted from the text since the birth of Hollywood. Most recently though (1994), is Kenneth Brannaugh s rendition entitled Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. Although Brannaugh makes a spectacular attempt to emulate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book is written as a frame narrative, but this sort of presentation is almost impossible to reproduce on screen. Robert Walton s letters to his sister, and the monster s long autobiographical narratives were both omitted from the film for this reason. A big asset to narrative voice is the reader acquires a more thorough impression of the charter s thoughts and feelings. Without the use of this literary tool, Brannaugh had to rearrange scenes, add dialect where there was none before, and depend on the superb theatrical ability of the actors. The movie starts off very true to the text with Walton s ship becoming logged in the ice in the arctic. Despite some minor changes, the film follows the book pretty closely until the death of Frankenstein s mother is described. In the novel, she contracts scarlet fever after caring for Elizabeth, and died calmly...her countenance express[ing] affection even in death (Shelley, 72). In the movie, she collapses while dancing with Victor, and soon after dies while giving birth to his brother William. This scene is filled with screaming, blood and gruesome images as the mother dies in a fit of pain and agony. Victor runs into his mother s room and is met by the site of her covered in blood and lain strewn on a broken chair. He then proceeds to throw himself on top of her and cry bring her back, oh ... • 6. The Music Of The Digital Age In today s digital age, the record industry is booming and in 2014 alone recorded music generated almost 15 billion dollars, ( Global Recorded Music Sales Totalled US $15 billion in 2014. ) and now, more than ever is the best time to capitalize on it. Due to the increased value of music and money that is being brought in from such artists as Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, and Kanye West music is becoming a money making game. There are many start up indie labels that are capitalizing on local music scenes all around the world. By doing this they earn money, as well as promoting originality and exposing music that should be heard by the masses. Because the DIY music scene is booming, with places such as Brooklyn, LA, Philly and Austin all on the rise, now is a great time to promote, record and expose tomorrow s future stars. For me and my label, Basement Tapes Records, I am going to create a record label that is different than the rest. I will only sign and promote unknown artists who have the potential to be great. I plan keeping everything in house that includes, production, promotion, revenue, and having producers that only work for my label. By doing all of these things I feel as though I can build Basement Tapes Records, to be a successful, money making, label. Originality and the ability to be different are crucial in today s music world. By being different I am more likely to attract more attention from people, other labels and most importantly, potential acts. Music ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This will cause the flakes and yeast to turn blue, and the solution is added until it is a consistent bright blue color where no isolated flakes are visible (it is helpful to mash up the flakes and yeast). Once the necessary color is established, the vials need to sit for about eight to ten hours. • 11. Non Human Primate Culture This research paper will discuss the ways in which non human primates use different sound and gestures to convey different feeling and emotions toward one another like humans. A primate is a mammal of an order that includes the Lemurs, Bushbabies, Tarsiers, Marmosets, Monkeys, Apes, and Humans (Oxford). What makes us human are our language, our culture, and our behavior. We as humans have feelings of joy, sadness, fear, anger, trust, and so much more, but have we ever stopped to wonder how or if our nonhuman primate relatives have and use these emotions just like us. These next couple paragraphs will explain and discuss what emotions are felt and how emotions are conveyed in the nonhuman primate culture. • 12. Trumpeter Swan Research Paper The Trumpeter Swan is an immense waterfowl with a heavy body and long neck; they can stretch to 6 feet in length and can weigh more than 25 pounds. These waterfowl can be found in North America, Alaska, and Canada. They are known as one of the heaviest flying birds and are almost twice as big as a Tundra Swan. The color pattern they are known for is their entirely white body and black legs and bill. Immatures are a grayish brown with a mottled bill that is black at the base. During migration, the Trumpeter Swan can be confused with the Tundra Swan. A few ways in which they differ is that the juvenile swan s plumage persists until spring migration, they have narrower heads, and are larger. These birds once nested over most of North America but began to disappear due to human disturbance. However, due to conservation efforts that have been focused on reintroducing the species, they are having a healthy comeback. Trumpeter Swans inhabit ponds, lakes, and rivers; in winter, they may even inhabit bays. By the late 1800s, their populations were decimated. It was also assumed that the loss of muskrats and beavers harmed Trumpeter Swan populations due to the fact they use their dens and dams. In 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. was imprisoned in the Birmingham Jail for being a participant in a non violent demonstration against segregation. While imprisoned, he wrote the infamous Letter from Birmingham Jail in response to a public statement of concern issued by eight white religious leaders of the South. The Civil War And Reconstruction Period Essay The Civil War and Reconstruction period provided African American people with a legal definition of citizenship through three constitutional amendments. Beginning with the 13th Amendment slavery was abolished, then 14th Amendment provided equal protection under the law, and lastly the 15th Amendment allowed all men, including African Americans, the ability to vote. However, the transition from enslavement to freedom was a difficult and terrifying one for most black women as they had little or no money, limited or no education and little access to it, and faced racism that impacted every aspect of their lives. However, the Reconstruction period in America promised African Americans a new life of freedom with the same inalienable rights provided to other American citizens and allowed for many social reforms to take place during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries due to the efforts of African American women. The period from the 1860s to the turn of the twentieth century, or the Reconstruction period, marked a transitional era of mixing a new socioeconomic and political infrastructure into the United States. A worldview will determine how you look at any situation, from abortion, religion, gay marriage or to more mundane issues, it is that innate belief that you have formulated in your life that will determine those outcomes and how others will possibly perceive you to be. Word Count: 93 words Part II The biblical worldview of our Origin started with God; He created our world, and all that exists within it, everything within six days (Gen.1.1). This policy by the United State according to this act mandated that pollution be prevented and most especially reduced from the source. It further states that, in an instance where pollution in unavoidably or unable to be prevented, then recycling of such waste should be done considering the safety and well being of the environment and the people. In a case where it is not possible to prevent pollution or recycled, such need to be treated in a safe manner to protect to reduce any hazardous environment (Burnett, 2000). The act explains source reduction as such practice that will reduce the quality of all hazardous substance, pollution or any contaminant that enters waste stream or that is released to the environment before it is recycled, treated or disposed. It is based on the observation of order in the world, and that the complexity of the universe shows evidence of design. This design implies a designer; capable and sentient, and this designer is God. The argument is split into two parts: design qua purpose and design qua regularity (Jordan, et al., 2002). Design qua regularity looks at the evidence of design, found in the order and regularity in the universe (Jordan, et al., 2002). It was first developed in the 13th century by St Thomas Aquinas, who in his fifth way in Summa Theologica, argued that the world of nature is like an arrow shot from an archer s bow, it has direction and purpose even if it lacks awareness as some intelligent being exists by whom all natural things are directed to their end: and this being we call God (Aquinas, 2009, p. 23). William Paley, another key contributor in of the Teleological argument, uses the planetary movements and Newton s laws of motion are also specific examples to provide evidence for design qua regularity part of the argument (Paley Ware, 1857). Design qua purpose looks at the evidence of design in relation to the ways in which the parts of the universe appear to fit together for some purpose. He began to write a script while in the camps he was in (he moved to 3 different camps during the holocaust). It was called, The Doctor and The Soul. In the book he describes his admittance into the camp, the everyday camp schedule and his release from the camp. When he is talking about his involvement in the camp he noticed many people experienced shock. As a part of this he noticed most people believed that the gassing would be stopped or delayed right before their execution. There was always a tiny hope fluctuation around in the camps that they would live to see freedom. Once people started to lose optimism that they would survive, suicides were common and majority of the prisoners lacked enthusiasm and energy which created emotional emptiness. He thought that people had the ability to governor and choose their piety and mental stability. Frankl said that people struggled with not knowing when the torment and suffering would end. He thought that people who couldn t foresee themselves getting out lost control of their mental stability. When freedom does eventually arrive for those who had survived they had a hard time accepting it because they never thought it would happen. He states that some prisoners weren t even happy about being released. Once they were released the former prisoners had to relearn how to experience things that didn t revolve around suffering. Once the holocaust is over and everyone has been released the book goes on to describe the techniques to help people that are still mentally ill from the horrifying experience. • 40. The United States Illogical Practice of Democratic Peace... The idea of a lasting, ideally global, peace has been present in the minds of people for centuries. The most notable formulation of this is Kant s vision of perpetual peace. He saw it as a condition that needed to be maintained by politics between states with governments which represented society and separation of power. From this basic framework stems the idea called democratic peace theory (pg. 82). Democratic Peace Theory (DPT) asserts that democracies do not generally fight other democracies because they share common norms and domestic institutions that constrain international, state actors from going to war. Sebastian Rosato states, In practical terms democratic peace theory provides the intellectual justification for the belief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The normative side of the theory, while powerful, can be a double edged sword. Implementing the normative side theory can be dangerous according to an individuals or groups subjective interpretation. The idea of global peace and security is so seductive that normative logic can be used to justify war. Woodrow Wilson, a firm believer in Kant s ideas, told Congress, The world must be made safe for democracy when asking it to declare war on Germany. Furthermore, the justification for war in Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003, allowed George W. Bush and Tony Blair to state they are bringing democracy to Afghanistan (pg. 20).Subjective interpretation of what democracy is can be used to validate aggression. Institutional Logic Institutional logic states, Democratic institutions and processes make leaders accountable to a wide range of social groups that may, in a variety of circumstances, oppose war (Rosato, pg. 587). The accountability of political elites wanting to stay in office means they must be ready to discredit unpopular policies and align themselves with other elites who share the same interests. Democratic states also allow for freedom of speech and a supposedly transparent political process, meaning the mass public can monitor and rate the government s performance holding these leaders accountable. The study has responses from 2987 participants selected at random for the survey. The survey asks a variety of questions regarding the elections and the perceptions of the participants. The questions include responses for voting preferences, issues faced in the elections of 2015, inclination of the voter towards left or right, taxation and spending views, views of respondents regarding immigration, economic status and so forth. The response scales used are close ended with multiple choice and Likert scale questions on a scale of one to ten being used. Due to the large amount of data and the variety of information asked, this report will restrict itself to testing a few hypotheses, which will be targeted towards specific areas, and which can be proved or disproved through use of cross tabulation analysis based on data obtained in the survey. It has been noted that the economic status of a voter tends to impact the political leanings of the voter. It was noted in a survey carried out in the USA that wage levels were an indicator of voter preferences where people who earned less than $70,000 noted to lean towards the liberal, Democratic Party, while those who earned more tended to be more conservative in leaning towards the Republican Party (Thompson, 2012). One of the dominant signatures of the extinction at the KT boundary was the low activity of primary production, the possibility of reduced sunlight is high (Schulte et al. 2010) .
