The Hitchhiker s Guide To The Galaxy By Douglas Adams
One of the literary highlights of my life has been reading The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy by
Douglas Adams. The short novel is packed with tons of humor, not leaving any joke untold. However,
despite being by far the funniest book I ve ever read, it discusses some fascinating subjects, both
philosophically and scientifically. Because Hitchhiker s Guide is such a fantastic book, I propose a
course based around discussing the topics covered in the book and learning about the science and
philosophy behind the book. The course would allow for in depth discussions of a plethora of topics
like time travel and even the existence of God. It would be great for honors students because it would
take advantage of their natural urge to learn and debate as well as teach students about material that ...

For example, discussing a whale appearing in the sky and subsequently falling to the earth (which
happens in the book, if you haven t read it), would allow for discussion on both the probability of
random events (like a whale appearing in the sky) and life philosophy. Aside from discussing the
topics discussed by the book, the course could take a literary turn and discuss the use of humor and
writing of the book. Douglas Adams has a unique sense of humor, which is largely dominated by dry,
absurdly matter of fact statements. This would add a literary perspective to a course that already
discusses STEM and philosophical subjects. Part of the course would require reading The Hitchhiker s
Guide to the Galaxy, as well as reading The Science of the Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy by
Michael Hanlon, a book that discusses the same things the course would, and would give students a
jumping off point for class discussions. This course would offer multiple interesting topics for
everyone, and would foster intellectually stimulating

Matt Dehart s Whistle On The Government
In 2008 Matt DeHart was considered an honorable man and an excellent member of the National
Guard. However, by 2014 the United States and Canadian governments had driven him to attempt
suicide twice (Humphreys). The events that happened in those six years speak to a major problem and
ongoing historical situation, namely is the treatment, or rather mistreatment, of whistleblowers. People
who blow the whistle on the government, such as Julian Assange, Edward Snowden, and Matt DeHart,
could be considered patriots for exposing villains in our own government. However, the government s
response is to attempt to kill them, to torture them, and to do everything in its power to make their
lives miserable. I wish to illustrate this issue in modern day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Assange s depiction is meant to illustrate what, as most believe, whistleblowers should be treated like;
exiled yet alive. This status is what Snowden is attempting to flee to in both real life and in the
painting. This side will be very well lit and use a lot of bright colors. Another main focus of my
painting is the noose that still hangs around the necks of Edward Snowden and Julian Assange. These
nooses, cut from the gallows, but still hanging around the necks of Snowden and Assange symbolize
what the United States, as symbolized by Uncle Sam, would have done with them had they not
escaped the its grasp. As with real life these exiles carry around these nooses mentally and do think of

Recruiting And Retention Non Commissioned Officer
As I begin my journey as a RRNCO (Recruiting and Retention Non Commissioned Officer) there will
be many obstacles that I will have to overcome to be the best recruiter I can be. I want to be able to
give others the same opportunities the National Guard offered to me. I was not always supportive of
the military, but in the end I owe all my success to the time I spent in the Army National Guard.
Throughout this paper I will be showing different statistics or demographics of the high school I feel is
the most important school I need to focus on. When I start to look at the school year, I have to devote
certain time and effort, so I need to develop a school program that will help generate leads and
referrals. By conducting presentations about the ARNG (Army National Guard) on such topics as the
role of the ARNG, state/federal missions, features and benefits, employment opportunities and ARNG
history.(NGR 601 1 2 18(f)) My yearly plan will be broken down month by month. This school plan
will help me build and sustain relationships throughout the FY (Fiscal Year). The soldiers I enlist will
be joining the Ohio Army National Guard.
Demographics
My area is very widespread because most of my schools are located in rural environment, which
means, I do a lot of driving from town to town. The assigned area that I will be discussing is located in
Batavia, OH. I will be focusing on Batavia High school, the bulldogs, because over the past few years

Theme Of Twelfth Sin The Jewel Box In Anger
In the story Du Tenth Sinks the Jewel Box in Anger, Du Tenth shows complete devotion to Master Li
Jia and by the end of the story, we see that the devotion she has for him is not reciprocated. One s
feelings may be stronger than the others, but couples choose to stay together. In some instances,
individuals may choose to stay in the relationship for convenience, rather than feelings. Regarding Du
Tenths situation, I feel that she continued her relationship for both reasons. Tenths feelings for Master
Li were very strong but in addition, it was more convenient for her to pursue a life with Li Jia, than
continue the life she was living. This trend is not only seen is stories, but it has also become the reality
of today s society.
For obvious reasons, Du Tenth pursued a relationship with Maser Li but the question is why did she
decide to stay with him after he lost all of his wealth? If we look at all the factors, Du Tenth had lots to
gain by officially being with Li Jia. Without Li Jia, she was just a courtesan. Master Li s parents did
not approve of their relationship due to this. The first thing that Du Tenth would gain is a better name
for herself. Tenth would be with a man that had a good name, which could ... Show more content on

This was the biggest mistake that Du Tenth made. She was so intrigued by the idea of being with
Master Li, that she didn t consider how easy it would be for him to leave her. I understand where she
was coming from because I have done this in the past. A few years ago, I rushed into a relationship
with one of my friends because I loved the idea of being with someone. Before I did so, I failed to
evaluate how compatible we were for each other. Honestly, there was much more for him to gain in
the relationship than there was for me. The best thing about it was that I learned who I was and was

Effects Of Gambling On The Future
Everyone has a different way of entertaining him or herself. While some chose to read a book on the
topic of their interest, others look to hang out with friends, and some look to take risks. As I reach
adulthood, I have observed more risk taking in the form of gambling. While gambling goes against
what many economists would consider rational behavior, it still has a way of drawing people. Maybe
it s the thrill of playing, or a chance at hitting the jackpot. People are even drawn to gambling whilst
under serious economic stress, such as living with a small budget. Do these gamblers think about their
own budget constraints when putting large sums of money on the table? Why are brick and mortar
gambling institutions legal while online gambling was banned outright? And how do advances in
technology effect gambling in the future?
My hypothesis is that economic fluctuations in the market have a nominal effect on gambling. These
risk takers take very little into account in terms of their overall economic situation and act on impulse.
Their savings and other financial issues would take a backseat to risking their money for a small
chance at financial gain. This would mean that gambling as a while is fairly inelastic.
With the Internet era upon us, technology advances will shift gambling from casinos to websites, as
long as it is allowed to do so by countries respective governments. In countries such as the United
States, the government has held up very strict laws and regulations

New York Was The Hub For A New Life
Imagine that a twelve year old coming home for a twelve hour work day of working with dangerous
machinery and having to give your earnings to their parents so that they can help the rest of their
family just merely get by that week. By the 1900s, ten to fifteen year olds made up one fifth of the
working population; some of these kids did not even have a family but they were working so that they
could stay off of the street. Likewise, immigrants saw working in sweatshops as a way to keep their
family from living a homeless lifestyle. New York was the hub for the first sweatshops in America,
Sweatshops first arose in American cities most notably in New York City during the nineteenth
century and were made possible by the large number of impoverished immigrants willing to endure
poor working conditions for low wages (Tuerk). Immigrants coming to the new world saw many
opportunities in sweatshops for a step into a new life, but they found themselves in a trap of fifteen
hour work days with hardly any breaks and atrocious working conditions. Many children and
immigrants saw working in sweatshops as a way out of their impoverished life and a step into a new
life, but these people were sadly mistaken. Many of them became diseased and even died from their
over worked bodies and close proximity to one another in the work place. Sweatshops and child labor
are an exploitation of human resources and should be abolished; they both started because of an
increase in children without

European Exploration Effects
European exploration occurred when the Europeans started traveling to other countries in search for
many things that were outside of Europe. There were good and bad impacts that the Europeans had on
the New World. As a result of European explorations, disease was spread throughout Native American
tribes, Europeans wanted to expand their colonies, and other cultures were enslaved because of
European exploration. Diseases began to spread in the Native American tribes of the New World as
Europeans traveled from North America, to Europe, and back again. When Europeans brought over
livestock and animals, they also carried illnesses that had originated in Europe; to North America. The

An example would be the Africans, the Europeans sailed to Africa and were fascinated with the tribes
and the systems that they had. When the Europeans discovered that they could get the Africans to
work on the land for cheaper than what they would pay for a serf to work on the land, they hired some
of them, and payed for their passage to North America. The New World also had many impacts on
Europeans. Due to European exploration the New World caused problems not just for the Europeans;
but also in European countries. Problems that were caused were the European economy was thrown
into a turmoil, people had more food, and exploration caused competition in the European countries.
When silver and gold was discovered in North America the Europeans brought it back to Europe, and
began to use it as currency. Land, and trade were the main source of money before the New World was
founded, so this threw the previous lords, that made their money from their land, poor, and made the

Biblical Allusions In Franz Kafka s Short Story A Hunger...
Julia Patterson
Dr. Cofer
English World literature
September 6, 2014
Why yes, it is another biblical allusion. In the story A Hunger Artist , by Franz Kafka, uses biblical
allusions to further the meaning of his short story. This is evident through Kafka s attempt to illustrate
suffering by the allusion of his main character, the hunger artist, to the ultimate sufferer, Jesus Christ.
The longest period of fasting was fixed by his impresario at forty days, beyond that term he was not
allowed to go (Kafka 335). Why stop after forty days? Why not continue? The hunger artist himself
repeatedly states that he wants to keep going to push himself further. Kafka does this on purpose
because he wants the audience to make a connection with the number forty. The number forty is
important because it is a repetitive biblical date that appears multiple times throughout the bible. God
made it rain for forty days and forty nights, he led the Jews to wonder the dessert for forty years, and
he leads Jesus into the desert to fast ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kafka uses this quote to make a connection between the hunger artist and Jesus. Kafka purposely
alludes to Jesus because he is emphasizing the hunger artist s suffering. Ultimately, there is no better
way to get readers to comprehend suffering then to relate it to the most famous sufferer of all time.
However, Kafka s allusion does not end there. He continues to deepen the meaning by comparing
Jesus to a man who is almost the opposite of being Christ like. Jesus suffered for mankind as whole.
The hunger artist s reason for suffering were rather self centered. He repeatedly pushed himself to the
brink of death in the name of art because he wanted the admiration of his

Comparing Goldilocks And Little Red Riding Hood
Have you ever put much thought into the decisions of the fairy tale characters that you grew up
hearing about about? Have you ever stopped to consider that maybe their actions and decisions
resemble each other? Goldilocks and the three bears is a classic fairy tale that most children grow up
hearing, Goldilocks made plenty of decisions; she decided to go into the forest, she decided to enter a
house, she discovered, she decided to eat porridge, to sit in a chair, and to doze off in a bed that she
found. Goldilocks made a lot of decisions, she wasn t the only one though. Little Red Riding Hood is
another fairy tale that we all know. Little Red made numerous decisions herself, she decided to bring
her ill Granny some soup in hopes of making her feel better. Little Red decided to go into the woods
alone, she decided to proceed fearlessly into the woods, even though there may be a malicious wolf
lurking in the trees. Goldilocks and Little Red both made decisions, those decisions were similar, in
that both of their decisions involved the girls going into the woods unaccompanied, going into a house
and more. However, they had made different decisions as well, and the reasons behind their decisions
were very different. One of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

It did not take a genius to see that Minerva s hatred had true root within her heart, and her extensive
knowledge of the dictators corruption just drove this even more so.
The youngest sister, Maria Teresa is often portrayed in a light of innocence and this enforced by her
quiet nature. Throughout her narration she refers to death a lot, discussing it as a fear and having
recurring dreams of a coffin. This was evident to the effect her fathers death had on her. Her marriage
to Leandro and birth of daughter Jacqueline brings her out of her shell and like her elder sisters, she
joins the fight with same tenacity.
The second sister, Dedè was the only sister not a confident member of the revolutionary movement,
and the only one who survived Trujillo s reign. Her husband Jaimito was the reason for her lack of
participation and the father to her three children, Enrique, Rafael and David. It was Dedè caution that
saved her life but led her too much regret when conflict began to tear Dedè and her husband apart.
Whilst her suspicions about her sisters being killed were always very real, she never thought that her
worst fear would come true.
The final revolt saw The Butterflies with six official standing members; the Mirabal sisters and their
husbands. Their children and various members of other revolutionary groups had also been identified.
The movement met weekly in Monte Cristi at the home

What You Don t Know Might Kill You
What You Don t Know Might Kill You Millions of Americans wake up every morning and make a
decision about what they will eat for breakfast to jump start their day. Some may reach for a bowl of
Cheerios or multigrain cereal, while others may opt for yogurt, toast, or a pastry. Some people choose
to wash down their breakfast with pulp free orange juice, while some may drink a protein drink or an
invigorating coffee to get them going. For lunch, many people will consume sandwiches piled high
with meats and cheeses or perhaps a cheap meal from the nearest fast food restaurant. When it comes
to dinner, this meal may vary from family to family, but most dinners consist of a starch or two, a kind
of meat, some variation of a vegetable on a good day, and a dessert to finish out the day.
People who regularly eat this way have more than just food in common. In fact, most people who
constantly eat the previously mentioned American diet, suffer from some sort of physical, mental, or
emotional illness, whether it be chronic headaches, poor gut health, obesity, diabetes, asthma, chronic
fatigue, ADHD, anxiety, or any of the other thousands of health problems. Many people suffering
from these illnesses are led to believe that there is no direct cure and that they will just have to cope
with their illness. However, what most of those people do not realize is that many of the diseases they
are plagued with are often caused by the chemicals that make up their food. Even if the chemicals do

Hester Prynne Rebellion Quotes

Hester Prynne of Nathanial Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter defies the Puritan belief system through
her rebellion and compassion. Hester defies the Puritan belief system through her rebellion. Hester
Prynne, while in Boston waiting for her husband to come from Amsterdam, commits the crime of
adultery and gives birth to a child, causing her to be punished. Hawthorne describes her crime in
dialogue between Hester s husband, who has just arrived in Boston and is unaware of Hester s

has caused, during her public punishment, in the government forces her to stand on a scaffold for three

This page describing her crime shows how Hester defies the Puritan belief system through rebellion
because the crime of adultery is a serious sin in their religion, showing that she purposely disobeys the
laws of their religion by having an affair. Hester Prynne also defies the Puritan belief system through
the scene where she immerges from the jail cell and is seen in public with her wedlock child for the
first time. Hawthorne describes the manner in which she immerges from the jail and how the town
reacts, in the quote Those who had before known her, and had expected to behold her dimmed and
obscured by a disastrous cloud, were astonished, and even startled, to perceive how her beauty shone
out, and made a halo of the misfortune and ignominy in which she had enveloped (46). This quote
shows Hester s rebellion against the Puritan beliefs because, due to how serious her crime is seen in
the Puritan community, the town members had expected her to show sorrow, shame, and weakness as
she walked from the jail cell. But, instead she walks out with her head held high, ignoring their
judgment, showing no shame and in the crime she committed, and disregarding the mannerisms the
Puritan s expected of her. Along with her rebellion, Hester Prynne defies the Puritan belief system

The Lightning Thief Book And Movie Analysis
Movies are Thieves A common goal of Hollywood productions is to attract a vast audience. In order to
earn mass profits from their movies, directors will change any storyline to create an easy to follow,
action filled success. The Lightning Thief novel, written by Rick Riordan, and The Lightning Thief
motion picture provide excellent examples of how books are morphed into classic, money making
attractions. Even though The Lightning Thief book and movie both share main characters and settings,
the book expresses more detail and educates the audience while the movie focuses more on action and
convenience, allowing for more errors between plots. Action is one of many differences found
between the book and the motion picture. The entire plot of the movie revolves around finding and
fighting for the pearls of Persephone, but in the book, Percy, the main character, receives the pearls as
a gift on behalf of his father for use in a time of trouble. The settings and opponents faced by Percy
and his companions, Annabeth and Grover, are the same: Medusa at the Emporium, Hydra at the
Parthenon replica, and the Lotus eaters at the casino. However, the reward for winning in the book is
survival, not a pearl as portrayed in the movie. Another example is the scene involving Hades
Minotaur. Percy is not an experienced fighter at the beginning of the book; therefore, Percy faints after
taking one of the Minotaur s horns. The movie illustrates Percy as a potentially skilled hero in

Management Of Incremental Software Development Across...
Agile is the management of incremental software development across cross functional teams. Learned
from years of successes and failures, the agile philosophy centers on software development with an
importance with self organization, motivation, in addition to daily team interaction. It means being
able to present working software instead of slides and documentation. Agile encourages customer
collaboration throughout the entire process to allow developers to respond to change in a timely

Each increment includes a planning phase where high level requirements are defined. These
requirements are bundled into delivery cycles and at the end of each delivery cycle a working
functionality is delivered to the customer. Iterative life cycles are scalable and can be used for large or
small projects. They are also useful when projects have predefined schedule constraints. Other types
of life cycles are sequential life cycles and prototyping life cycles. Sequential life cycles include
models such as the Pure Waterfall Method, differ from agile because the product is not delivered until
the end of the project. The waterfall method however, implements phases such as the agile method
but, these phases produce documentation not working deliverables to the customer. The waterfall
method works well for projects with customers that know what they want and are fully committed to
the project. Prototype life cycle models are particularly unique. A prototype life cycle model, such as
the rapid prototyping model, is commonly utilized as a visual tool than an entire standalone process.
Rapid prototyping is designed to model a piece of software and product with limited functionality. The
rapid prototyping model is usually incorporated into the waterfall method during the concept
definition phase to provide a visual aid to the customers, since no working

Abstract
The paper focuses on Entrepreneur s Marketing Source (EMS), a workbook idea owned by Brent
Banda. The study analyses the two options available to Brent on which the future of his company
depends. The first option is the strategic alliance with Imagine and the second option is to work on
workbook which will deal with marketing related issues for small and medium size businesses for
example proper advertising and product development. The advantages and disadvantages related to the
options are discussed with a final recommendation based on personal opinion.
Strategic Alliance with Imagine Alternative As stated in the case study, Brent is not a graphic designer,
thus he relies on other local companies to create finished ads and web pages. Recently he was
approached by a design firm he has worked with named Imagine with a business offer. With Imagine
willing to let EMS share a rented office space the client referral promise, the offer seems worthwhile
but it has its own advantages and disadvantages. The first advantage that Brent has with the alliance is
that he will not have to struggle to look for customers for the reason of Imagine being an established
business with a hefty number of loyal customers. Brent will have access to clients much larger than
those he has at present. The second advantage

Dylan. Being a man of success himself, yet a very humble and simple man, changed the way people
view musical quality. Dylan was awarded with the number one song in the twentieth century with
those lyrics from his masterpiece Like a Rolling Stone, by Rolling Stone Magazine. His poetic words

His inspiration was to intimidate the music of his own music idol, Woody Guthrie. He wanted to be a
socially conscious singer/composer just like Guthrie (Heatly, 126). As the times changed, Dylan
became a musical chameleon. He was able to conform to the changes in the popularity in music.
Dylan s career started with folk and protest music in the early 1960 s then moved through to
electrified folk rock in the mid and late 1960 s and early 1970 s (Kamin). After the Civil Rights, most
fans found Dylan s folk music more admiring and significant than anything he had ever wrote;
popularity formed by creating the raw sounding combo of vocals, harmonica and guitar. That mixture
alone has kept his music career last him forty seven years (Rathbone). Dylan did not want to stop
there; he wanted to evolve into the new generation of music. Dylan cross pollinated folk and country
music with electric rock, creating an entirely new dimension of popular music (Heatly, 126). He liked
to mix sounds and experiment different styles to meet his high expectations of creativity. He created
the new style called folk rock mixing his original folk sound but began to play electric guitar to
embrace rock and roll (Dylan). Some Dylan fans did not approve of his switch but happened to still
remained a musical sensation with a wider audience. Dylan and his band also caused an uproar at the

Homelessness In King Lear
Vagrancy Homelessness is just as big a problem today as it was when Shakespeare wrote King Lear.
Many people have an indifferent attitude towards the penniless, believing that it is their fault they are
in the situation in the first place. Shakespeare questions this notion. At the start of King Lear, Lear and
Gloucester are both unconcerned about the homeless and even subject their kin to a state of removal
from society. However, their attitudes change when they both experience wretchedness for themselves
and they develop empathy for the destitute. This empathy is not visible when Lear, outraged by
Cordelia s response to his question renounces her as his daughter. Lear says disgustedly I disclaim all

Threat to Internet Privacy
Abstract
At what level is Internet surveillance by the United States government acceptable to society,
considering a balance between security and privacy, what are the short and long term implications, and
how does it affect the rest of the world.
Introduction
Privacy from governments has been under assault increasing amounts in the last 100 years.
Technology has revolutionized the concept, as before we had microphones, telephones, wiretaps,
video cameras, someone would actually need to trespass to violate your privacy. For example, you
would need to actually be in someone?s house to eavesdrop on his or her conversation without
technological help[1]. Privacy protection can be looked at as how ... Show more content on

But a prudent teacher could buy them in another town to avoid this act being discovered by the school.
But with computer technology, the bar code on the condoms could be tied to the credit card number
and to the school records, informing the school that a teacher made an unacceptable purchase[2],
potentially costing the teacher his or her job. Current technology makes such a scenario feasible.
However, such a compilation of publicly available information seems like quite an intrusion of
privacy.
Yet, this ability to track someone?s actions could be used to catch potential criminals and terrorists. A
terrorist could research how to make a bomb online, take flight lessons, and communicate with other
terrorists over email. If this activity were properly monitored, the terrorist could be caught before any
harm was done. Current practices of monitoring based on the Patriot Act have been given credit for
catching more terrorists than ever before[3]. At what level are we willing to give up our personal
privacy for security?
The United States has long had a practice of respecting privacy and considering it an individual right.
In 1890, the U.S. Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis stated that individuals have a ?right to be left
alone?[4]. The courts have used this repeatedly as the basis for upholding personal privacy, though
just as often overlooked this right when

Nurse Personal Statement
I am enthusiastic about making a change to people s lives. Nursing is an occupation that accomplishes
this determination. Having been part of a big family of nine people I have always learnt to assist
others and to do whatever I can. My inspiration to become a nurse was my mother since she was able
to look after and care for a big family of nine. She has always been an inspiration to me, as she looks
after my disabled sister, looking after my sister is very rewarding and challenging, but a challenge my
mum deals with immaculately. In addition to this my baby brother has been diagnosed with Down
syndrome, my mother takes immense care of both of my siblings and nurses them on a daily basis.
Her guidance and experiences as a mother are an inspiration. I personally consider Nursing as a
profession that I would surpass at since I enjoy dealing with individuals, and sympathizing with their
difficulties. I believe I am extremely hard working, ambitious, and empathetic. I consider these
character qualities vital to meet the requirements of nursing. My A level studies have fed into my
career choice in an interesting way. Business has taught me different skills and requirements that are
needed for this degree. For instance I have gained communication skills from my course which I can
use as a nurse when dealing with patients and co workers. Also I have had to work in teams where I
was responsible to lead them; this will help me later when I am a nurse ... Show more content on

Noninfective Fluid Occur In The Middle Ear
The middle ear, which can be referred to as the Tympanic membrane, is responsible for transmitting
sound waves from the outer ear into the inner ear. It accomplishes this by using three bones which are
called the auditory ossicles. The three bones involved are the Malleus, the incus and stapes. These
bones connect the tympanic membrane (eardrum) to the oval window of the inner ear. Each bone has a
special function in the transmission of vibrations that will be discussed below. Although, the middle
ear is usually good at maintaining balance and free from organisms; it can also be infected from other
factors and complications. The middle ear can be easily infected when foreign matter enters the canal
or the Eustachian tube, which connects to the nasopharynx. This can also lead to ear infections even if
the patient has sinus infection or any upper respiratory infection that can contribute. Since the
nasopharynx connects to the middle ear, drainage and bacteria can invade the middle ear ... Show

Trainer s Dear Future Husband
In the opening sequence of her Dear Future Husband, Trainer s bright color outfits suggest her
dominant personality, underscoring her leading position in her relationships. When she first appears,
Trainer wears a red jacket with a blue pencil skirt. The color red represents her outgoing
characteristics, shows her passionate feelings toward life, and reveals her aggressiveness in controlling
her future. It resembles the color of fire, which burns so violently and exhaustively that its
surroundings can feel its warmth. Therefore, the red that Trainer wears illustrates her fire like passion
toward life and suggests her dominant personality, portraying her as an expressive, energetic feminist.

sent to the underworld because he needed help about how to get home, and also whathis future was to

Both authors shared the same idea of an underworld, and bothgive clear pictures about how horrifying
the underworld can be. The final comparison is that of the Greek and Roman games. Again, both
authors give a clear description of the games. The games that were played by the Romans were taken

In addition, in both epics, both the Romans and Greeks play the same games, those being wrestling,

are similar in many ways. Not only are they both epics, but both Odysseus and Aeneas are both sent a
journey, having to overcome many obstacles to and as a result become epic heroes. Secondly, both the
Greek and Romans underworlds are worlds that Aeneas and Odysseus are both sent to in order to
receive help. Further, both heroes see a place filled with many suffering people who are being judged.
And finally, the Greek and Romans take the games very seriously as both Odysseus and Aeneas strive
to do an excellent job during the games, and to win honor. Both of these characters show the true
qualities of a hero honor and bravery. As Aristotle sates, The truly good and wise man will bear all
kinds of fortune in a seemly way, and will always act in the noblest manner that the circumstances

Bipolar Disorder Essay
Bipolar disorder also known as manic depression has always been a mystery since the 16th century.
History has shown that it can appear in almost everyone. Bipolar disorder causes mood swings in
energy, thinking, and other behavior. Having a bipolar disorder can be very disabling (Kapczinski). A
study was evaluated and about 1.3% of the U.S population of people suffers from bipolar disorder.
Stressors and environmental influences can trigger and cause a person to go through numerous
episodes. Bipolar disorder is characterized according to the severity of the stages. According to

Despite the similarities, there are more common symptoms in bipolar depression than it is in regular
depression. For example, bipolar depression has individuals feeling guilty, hopeless, sad, empty,
unpredictable mood swings, and feelings of restlessness. People with bipolar depression also tend to
move very slow, gain weight, and sleep a lot (Hatchett). On the other hand the hypomania state has led
observers to feel that bipolar patients are addicted to their mania. Paranoia or irritable characteristics
begin to manifest in this stage. Hyperactive behavior can sometimes lead to violence and speech
becomes very rapid (Hirschfeld, 1995). A mixed episode is when you have both manic and depressive
symptoms at the same time. According to Hirschfield, Those afflicted are a special risk because there
is a combination of hopelessness, agitation, and anxiety that makes them feel like they, could jump out

moods. This episode is considered very dangerous because individuals feel as if they could commit
suicide.

The Combat Oriented Tasks Of The Tradoc Pt Manual
Once the analysis of the current APFT exercises have been completed the research will move on to the
combat oriented tasks described in the TRADOC PT Manual. This leads us into stage two of the
research. The tasks describe within the manual can be found within chapter 13 of the manual. The
TRADOC manual is also Army wide guidance concerning what types of tasks Soldiers must be able to
perform in combat situations. The actions prescribed in the manual will be evaluated on the same
criteria as the current APFT format. The tasks specifically include: marching, running, lifting from
ground and overhead, lunching pushing and rotations. These actions will again be broken down into
the different body actions used in each movement and associated with the type of muscle contractions
used. The TRADOC Tasks will be categorized and their characteristics identified on the following

The third stage of this research will be conducted through electronic survey. By conducting all surveys
through electronic means the study will be able to read a wider audience and a larger participation
group in a more efficient way. By using the military global email system email surveys can be sent
according to personnel who have served in the different theaters more expediently. The survey will be

Examples Of Archetypes In Manchester By The Sea
Manchester by the Sea directed and written by Kenneth Lonergan is a literal film full with sorrow and
heaviness. This is a story telling about a depressed man asked to be his dead brother s teenage son s
supervisor. A lot of audience are confused after watching the movie, because they can not fully
understand it. People hold different comments and opinions among this movie. Using the unhealable
wound, colors, and the initiates to explain the reason behind Lee Chandler s refusal of being Patrick s
supervisor.
The first archetype explains the film s metaphor is a situation archetype. The Unhealable Wound.
Situation archetype refers to a physically or psychologically wound that can not be fully healed. In the
movie, the unhealable wound perfectly annotates the main character Lee Chandler. One day as usual,

The Colors. This archetype is important to any kinds of book or films. Readers or audience can
receive the messages or emotions that the authors want to convey through this symbolic archetype.
For example, the book cover of Nineteen Eighty Four is black, this makes the readers feel it is about
depress and darkness, which the novel certainly is. In Manchester by the Sea, the color is blue. Blue
usually represents sorrow, melancholy, and depress. An illustration of blue is the film poster s
background, which is a gloomy blue sky. In addition, another scene in the movie that indicates the
color blue. Under the same sky, Lee met his ex wife, Randy. Randy already had her second marriage
and gave birth to a baby. When they talked about past, Randy cried: My heart was broken, and I know
yours is broken, too. (Dir Lonergan). This sentence feels so sad, it gives a strong feeling of sorrow and

Grateful Dead Concert Essay
For concert essay 2, I have went with an online concert. I have chosen the concert at Alpine Valley,
where the Grateful Dead performed July 7, 1989. This is a historic venue for the Grateful Dead and
the Deadheads, because this was an atmosphere that always seemed to be far more electric than most.
Although the Grateful Dead was a great live act throughout the entire existence of the band, many of
the band members admit during the 89 90 tours, they were at their best. To open the concert, the band
members claim the stage to a roaring crowd, particularly focused upon Jerry Garcia. With very little
preparation time, the band jumped right into their first song, without hesitation. This stood out to me
because all of the concerts I have seen live, they ll spend quite some time tuning, and chatting up the
crowd. This crowd sure did not need the pep talk, because of the virve already presented by the crowd.
The opening song was Let the Good Times Roll. With this song as an opening and a more prominent
Grateful Dead hit, the aura of the concert had already been set. Each singer of the band had their own
verse in this song, to really get the crowd engaged with each member. A very distinguishing piece of
the Grateful Dead was that they had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

personal favorite performances include those songs categorized as a rock ballad, with the stage lights

standing upon the moon, gazing upon unfolding events on Earth, longing to return to his lover and
home. Within this song, The Grateful Dead pay homage to their roots, including a line Somewhere in
San Francisco, on a back porch in July. After this verse, Jerry Garcia erupts into a phenomenal guitar
solo, as the lights fade to

Biography on Sir Francis Drake
Francis Drake was born in 1542 in Devonshire, England. He loves the water and can always find

had any children of his own. At an early age, Francis started to work on a ship that would sail between
France and England to trade goods. Drake listened and did what he was to do so well that when the
owner of the ship passed away, he had no children of his own, so he left the barque to Drake. Shortly
after that, Drake was enlisted to assist his cousins; The Hawkins. They would sail around and seize
merchant ships off of the French coast. They were considered privateers. In his early 1560, Drake was
given his own ship; The Judith. He enlisted the help of his cousin, John Hawkins. They would sail to
Africa to start in slave trading. This was totally against Spanish laws. After they purchased their
slaves, they would go back to New Spain and sell their slaves to settlers there. On one of their trips

The Importance Of Animated Dental Videos
The Importance of Animated Dental Videos
Right now animated dental videos are what s trending in the web world. The reason is that most
consumers are used to seeing these kinds of videos. Animated videos have an informal and friendly
nature that allows people to let their guards down. This allows you to express your marketing message
without as much resistance. We are seeing 3D animations creep up in popularity in the marketing of
dental products. The tv was one of the first to use animation for commercials for toothbrushes and
toothpaste. Now you can popularly see dental care commercials that show animated evil plaques being
terminated by heroic toothpaste particles.
Another valid point to why our animated dental videos are in high need is because nobody wants to
look in somebody else s mouth. It comes from the eighties where 2D was at its peak than in the
nineties it was replaced with 3D and is here now. Today you would practically be a mediocre dentist if
you can not show your 12 year old patient a beautiful 3D animation of her braces in your initial

About 5 10% of the female population is affected by Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). The cause
is unknown, but it is considered to be the most common endocrine disorder in women. Genetics and
insulin resistance are believed to play a significant role. One of the first symptoms is an irregular

Gangs And Gang Crimes All Together
I have chosen to write my paper on Gangs and Gang crimes all together. I want to explain the history
and reasoning of modern gangs and how and why they came about. I also want to give examples of
some of the most common gangs known world wide and examples of the crimes they commit. I will
also include insight on the reasoning behind the joining of gangs. Lastly, I would like to go into some
detail about the criminal investigation of gang crimes. I have chosen this topic because I believe it is
one that we don t give enough credit to in the current increase in crime rate. Today s gangs of violent
young offenders aggressive if you will terrorize and put pressure on neighborhoods in over three
quarters of America s largest cities. These collectivities may include only one third of at risk youth,
but the members that are held accountable are only about 80% of the serious delinquencies among
minors. Now, even though juvenile violence and crime is connected to inferior socioeconomic
conditions and racial issues, it has been understood that gangs nurture and structure young offenders
towards futures of crime. Their entire existence is on the belief that the youth will grow up and
become part of their legacy as they call it.
Now, to understand street gangs and the crimes they commit in its seriousness, one must understand
what a street gang is. Street gangs are groups or gangs, having a year history, or having a large
membership and being somewhat organized, and being involved

Introduction: The issue of predation amoung most animals in not uncommon and has been the leading
reasons for increased survival pressures. As a result many animals have evolved various different
predatory strategies, these specific traits assist in increasing a species chances for survival.
Phrynosoma hernandesi is a species of lizard in the family Phrynosomatidae, and is a highly variable

Phrynosoma hernandesi favours the desert environment and generally resides in the semi arid
environments of North and Central America, much like a majority of short horned lizards that have
settled throughout Mexico and along northeastern Sonora, Chihuahua, and Durango. Through years of
evolutionary adaptation Phrynosoma cornutum, which generally resides in the Sonoran desert,
Colorado, Kansas, and Northern Mexico, have developed cryptic colouration (William 2009).

The Pros And Cons Of Alternative Medicine

alternative medicine and practices can heal the mind, body, and one s spirit. Alternative medicine can

The Importance Of College Is A College Worth It
Every year, around 20.4 million students in the United States go to college. Most students enroll in

Personally, I have never given this question any serious consideration and the research I have done has
opened my eyes. I attend classes along with over 5,000 students here at UNK, and I doubt many have
had the opportunity to do the research and decide for themselves. As I began my research to answer
the question, I noticed something that stood out to me. There are many more articles that say college is
well worth it, than articles that say otherwise. I began with an article by Liz Weston of TIME. She
provided statements and research on both side but ultimately swayed towards saying that a bachelors
degree is worth more than a high school diploma. She situated the article based on The reduced

Beauty Among Death in Gravestone of a Girl with Doves The High Classical Greek Period is

450 400 BCE held a lot of destruction because of the wars going between the Athens and Sparta,
known as the Peloponnesian War, however, there was also a lot of beauty during this period because
sculptures and architects made art that depicted victory over wars won, such as the Parthenon. Despite
all the madness happening during this high classical period, a peaceful piece of art was born.

Since this sculpture is a gravestone, I felt that the sculptor made this gravestone with a gradient effect
with the low/high reliefs in order to signify that the young girl was fading away into death. A peplos,
which is a typical garment seen on specifically women in Greek art, hangs over her shoulders and
seems to create a dragging down feeling to the sculpture since peplos is heavy fabric. The peplos also
accentuates her body without actually revealing much of anything, which was appropriate considering
the time period, the age of the girl depicted, and the purpose that the sculpture served as, which is as a
gravestone. There is no movement whatsoever, but there does seem to be a subtle vertical line running
through the young girl s contropossto stature.
An expression is worth a thousand words. The young girl depicted shows no emotion, which is a
typical characteristic in the classical greek style. It looks as though the girl depicted has her mind
somewhere else, which actually creates a sense of peacefulness since her expression is not one of pain
or discomfort . Unlike most Greek sculptures that are massive in size, this sculpture is smaller because
it depicts the death of a small child. According to the description besides this sculpture, the doves that
the girl is holding represent her innocence of childhood. They can also represent the kind of person

Abraham Lincoln And The Abolition Of Slavery
Even though the abolishment of slavery is a glorious accomplishment during his administration, it was
not the only defining factor of Abraham Lincoln when he was president. Lincoln saw past the
inequality of black and white and regarded equality and freedom above all as a basis for a united
nation because he wrote the Gettysburg Address at a crucial time during the civil war to earn favor
among freed slaves and to those opposed to slavery in the North and he decreed the Emancipation
Proclamation as a stepping stone to achieve his ultimate goal.
Lincoln had deep feelings on the subject of liberty. He knew it was a vital but delicate concept, which
needed to be cared for. Nearly a ten years earlier, in the midst of agitation over the Kansas Nebraska
Act, Lincoln had said in Peoria, Illinois: Little by little, but steadily as man s march to the grave, we
have been giving up the old for the new faith. Nearly eighty years ago we began by declaring that all
men are created equal; but now from that beginning we have run down to the other declaration, that
for some men to enslave others is a sacred right of self government. These principles cannot stand
together. They are as opposite as God and Mammon; and whoever holds to the one must despise the
other. (1) Perhaps as a young man, Lincoln had done his share of useless labor to fulfill his quota.
Lincoln did what was necessary and, in return, he expected others to do the same. His work ethic was
key to his attitudes toward

Social Unity In John Steinbeck s The Grapes Of Wrath
Social Unity in Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath
The unity of mankind is a theme that has been often reflected in literature, in politics, and in
philosophy. Throughout history, it has been articulated by such luminaries as John Donne, who
famously wrote that no man is an island ; Ralph Waldo Emerson, who developed the concept of the
Oversoul; and more recently John Steinbeck, who as an author brought the theme of social unity into a
new, popularly accessible light. Regarded as an exceedingly influential figure in American literature,
Steinbeck saw man as a part of a whole, often against a background of the disintegration of larger
social and economic units and systems ( Biography of John Steinbeck 12). This view is reflected most

In the beginning of The Grapes of Wrath, Jim Casy is depicted as a former preacher whose life has
recently been changed by a series of radical, almost transcendentalist revelations, such as that sin is an
empty concept and that the souls of all people are part of a greater whole. He reasons that while he
may not truly know and love Jesus, [m]aybe it s all men and all women we love; maybe that s the
Holy Sperit . . . Maybe all men got one big soul ever body s apart of (Steinbeck 31). At first, he has
yet to act upon these ideas, only revealing them to a couple of characters, including Tom Joad.
However, this changes when he moves with the Joads to California; there, he begins to engage in
altruism and active self sacrifice out of his deep regard for his fellow man. For instance, when an
aggressive deputy is injured by Tom Joad and another migrant worker, Casy takes the blame and lets
himself be arrested, reasoning that the cops will jus put me in jail, an I ain t doin nothin but set aroun
(342). Later, after being released from prison, he becomes a labor leader in the midst of a strike. He
explains his new devotion to organizing migrant workers by reasoning that people are strongest when

Relationships In Good Will Hunting
Good Will Hunting is an interesting story of a young genius orphan growing in a slums of South
Boston with a group of best friends, written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and directed by Gus Van
Sant. In this film, Will Hunting is the main character played by its father Matt Damon who is trying to
himself identify his value in the world. He is not a normal teenager, he has a special ability that called
the photographic memory so that he could remember and solve academic problems in a really quickly
way. This film also tells us the journey of Willy as he is required to experience psychotherapy by
Professor Gerald Lambeau (Stellan Skarsgard) unless he wants to serve the jail time due to his assault
to a police officer. After several attempts for such treatment, all psychologists give up talking with him
because of his stubborn characteristic until he meets Sean Maguire played by Robin Williams. Sean is
the only person who is able to guide Willy on the way to finding himself and recognizing what is the
most important to him in his own life. The writers and director collaborate very well in conveying the
message to watchers through the storyline and some special relationships in it. There are two noticed
relationships in Good Will Hunting which are between teacher and student and between man and
woman.
The most inspiring relationship is between patient and doctor, Will Hunting and Sean Maguire. Sean
Maguire is the psychologist in the movie who helps Willy work out his problems

My Professional Development Plan Is Directed Towards...
My personal professional development plan is directed towards helping me become a better teacher to
help students learn and reach their full potential. The skills I am working on to be a better teacher
include, better time management, communication, and having a stronger teacher voice. I plan to work
on these goals throughout my time at York College of Pennsylvania and achieve them by the time I
have completed my student teaching, which will be in three years. If I feel a goal has been achieved
before I complete my student teaching, I plan to add a new goal, while still focusing on my previous
goals to make them even stronger qualities.
My first skill is to have better time management. As of now, I feel I do have strong time management
when dealing with arriving early and planning my day out efficiently. I do have trouble with staying in
the projected time frame during lessons. For example, if I have thirty minutes to teach a lesson, I may
take thirty five to forty minutes. Typically, this is due to introduction of my lesson. I believe students
need to grasp the concept in the beginning of the lesson to be able to build off of the information and
complete activities on their own without the help of other students or myself.
Like I said, as of now, I do have fair time management skills, but they certainly need improvement.
My goal is to be able to plan lessons and keep them in the projected time frame; this includes being
within 2 minutes under or over.
There are several

Isis In A Containable Prison Case Study
Kaitlyn,
Comment: I think that you did a nice job and have a solid argument, in a perfect world I believe that
this is what we should do. But because individual countries are stubborn an International Court may
not have authority. This raises some questions that I have for you, although I do agree with what you
said I also think that the likelihood of an International Court being corporative is not realistic.
Question: How do you plan on containing all of ISIS in a containable prison after the shut down of
Alcatraz? There is no prison on US soil that can hold the amount of high profile criminals. Also how
are you planning on arresting all of the criminals incorporated in ISIS and transporting them to the
United States? Going off of what

Edible Alternatives To Single Use Plastic In Food Industry
Plastic pollution has reached the all time high. According to recent research, there are already more
than 5 trillion plastic pieces weighing over 250 000 tons afloat in the oceans (Eriksen et al., 2014).
Sustainablecoastlines.org, a New Zealand Charity dedicated to cleaning up the island s coastlines,
estimates that 72.4% of all plastic pollution in the Pacific oceans consists of single use plastics, 22.5%
of which is food wrappers, containers and bottle caps ( Our Impact ). Those numbers spell out an
urgency to come up with a sustainable solution that will slow down the production of plastic debris

Biodegradable plastics, produced from food based products rather than petroleum, although very
promising, still represent a very small percentage of the waste problem. Those should be broken down
only in specialized composting facilities through a controlled process that still produces considerable
amounts of methane (Dell, 2010). Clearly, the issue needs a completely different approach. Edible
alternatives to plastic are the next logical step to solving the contamination problem.
Designers of edible packaging borrowed the concept from nature. Just like apple or grape skins, those
ultra thin but strong membranes are capable of holding both liquid and solid foods while being
completely washable. Edible plastics can be made from vegetables, fruits or nuts with some chitosan
(biopolymer) or alginate (algae extract). Once those particles are gelatinized, they create the firm but
edible skin which mimics resistance of conventional plastics. This kind of packaging will still need an
outer box or a bag to keep the product clean on the shelf, but the individual servings will no longer
have to be ripped open and discarded. Instead, they can be dissolved in hot liquid directly or rinsed off
and eaten together with the contents. Some examples of this new zero waste food industry ideas have
already appeared on the

  • 3. The Hitchhiker s Guide To The Galaxy By Douglas Adams One of the literary highlights of my life has been reading The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. The short novel is packed with tons of humor, not leaving any joke untold. However, despite being by far the funniest book I ve ever read, it discusses some fascinating subjects, both philosophically and scientifically. Because Hitchhiker s Guide is such a fantastic book, I propose a course based around discussing the topics covered in the book and learning about the science and philosophy behind the book. The course would allow for in depth discussions of a plethora of topics like time travel and even the existence of God. It would be great for honors students because it would take advantage of their natural urge to learn and debate as well as teach students about material that ... For example, discussing a whale appearing in the sky and subsequently falling to the earth (which happens in the book, if you haven t read it), would allow for discussion on both the probability of random events (like a whale appearing in the sky) and life philosophy. Aside from discussing the topics discussed by the book, the course could take a literary turn and discuss the use of humor and writing of the book. Douglas Adams has a unique sense of humor, which is largely dominated by dry, absurdly matter of fact statements. This would add a literary perspective to a course that already discusses STEM and philosophical subjects. Part of the course would require reading The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, as well as reading The Science of the Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy by Michael Hanlon, a book that discusses the same things the course would, and would give students a jumping off point for class discussions. This course would offer multiple interesting topics for everyone, and would foster intellectually stimulating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, by 2014 the United States and Canadian governments had driven him to attempt suicide twice (Humphreys). The events that happened in those six years speak to a major problem and ongoing historical situation, namely is the treatment, or rather mistreatment, of whistleblowers. People who blow the whistle on the government, such as Julian Assange, Edward Snowden, and Matt DeHart, could be considered patriots for exposing villains in our own government. However, the government s response is to attempt to kill them, to torture them, and to do everything in its power to make their lives miserable. I wish to illustrate this issue in modern day ... I want to be able to give others the same opportunities the National Guard offered to me. I was not always supportive of the military, but in the end I owe all my success to the time I spent in the Army National Guard. Throughout this paper I will be showing different statistics or demographics of the high school I feel is the most important school I need to focus on. When I start to look at the school year, I have to devote certain time and effort, so I need to develop a school program that will help generate leads and referrals. Theme Of Twelfth Sin The Jewel Box In Anger In the story Du Tenth Sinks the Jewel Box in Anger, Du Tenth shows complete devotion to Master Li Jia and by the end of the story, we see that the devotion she has for him is not reciprocated. One s feelings may be stronger than the others, but couples choose to stay together. In some instances, individuals may choose to stay in the relationship for convenience, rather than feelings. Regarding Du Tenths situation, I feel that she continued her relationship for both reasons. Tenths feelings for Master Li were very strong but in addition, it was more convenient for her to pursue a life with Li Jia, than continue the life she was living. This trend is not only seen is stories, but it has also become the reality of today s society. For obvious reasons, Du Tenth pursued a relationship with Maser Li but the question is why did she decide to stay with him after he lost all of his wealth? If we look at all the factors, Du Tenth had lots to gain by officially being with Li Jia. Without Li Jia, she was just a courtesan. • 8. Effects Of Gambling On The Future Everyone has a different way of entertaining him or herself. While some chose to read a book on the topic of their interest, others look to hang out with friends, and some look to take risks. As I reach adulthood, I have observed more risk taking in the form of gambling. While gambling goes against what many economists would consider rational behavior, it still has a way of drawing people. Maybe it s the thrill of playing, or a chance at hitting the jackpot. People are even drawn to gambling whilst under serious economic stress, such as living with a small budget. Do these gamblers think about their own budget constraints when putting large sums of money on the table? Why are brick and mortar gambling institutions legal while online gambling was banned outright? And how do advances in technology effect gambling in the future? My hypothesis is that economic fluctuations in the market have a nominal effect on gambling. These risk takers take very little into account in terms of their overall economic situation and act on impulse. Their savings and other financial issues would take a backseat to risking their money for a small chance at financial gain. This would mean that gambling as a while is fairly inelastic. With the Internet era upon us, technology advances will shift gambling from casinos to websites, as long as it is allowed to do so by countries respective governments. In countries such as the United States, the government has held up very strict laws and regulations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

New York Was The Hub For A New Life Imagine that a twelve year old coming home for a twelve hour work day of working with dangerous machinery and having to give your earnings to their parents so that they can help the rest of their family just merely get by that week. By the 1900s, ten to fifteen year olds made up one fifth of the working population; some of these kids did not even have a family but they were working so that they could stay off of the street. Likewise, immigrants saw working in sweatshops as a way to keep their family from living a homeless lifestyle. New York was the hub for the first sweatshops in America, Sweatshops first arose in American cities most notably in New York City during the nineteenth century and were made possible by the large number of impoverished immigrants willing to endure poor working conditions for low wages (Tuerk). Immigrants coming to the new world saw many opportunities in sweatshops for a step into a new life, but they found themselves in a trap of fifteen hour work days with hardly any breaks and atrocious working conditions. Many children and immigrants saw working in sweatshops as a way out of their impoverished life and a step into a new life, but these people were sadly mistaken. Many of them became diseased and even died from their over worked bodies and close proximity to one another in the work place. • 11. Biblical Allusions In Franz Kafka s Short Story A Hunger... Julia Patterson Dr. Cofer English World literature September 6, 2014 Why yes, it is another biblical allusion. In the story A Hunger Artist , by Franz Kafka, uses biblical allusions to further the meaning of his short story. This is evident through Kafka s attempt to illustrate suffering by the allusion of his main character, the hunger artist, to the ultimate sufferer, Jesus Christ. The longest period of fasting was fixed by his impresario at forty days, beyond that term he was not allowed to go (Kafka 335). Why stop after forty days? Why not continue? The hunger artist himself repeatedly states that he wants to keep going to push himself further. Kafka does this on purpose because he wants the audience to make a connection with the number forty. The number forty is important because it is a repetitive biblical date that appears multiple times throughout the bible. God made it rain for forty days and forty nights, he led the Jews to wonder the dessert for forty years, and he leads Jesus into the desert to fast ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He continues to deepen the meaning by comparing Jesus to a man who is almost the opposite of being Christ like. Jesus suffered for mankind as whole. Have you ever stopped to consider that maybe their actions and decisions resemble each other? Goldilocks and the three bears is a classic fairy tale that most children grow up hearing, Goldilocks made plenty of decisions; she decided to go into the forest, she decided to enter a house, she discovered, she decided to eat porridge, to sit in a chair, and to doze off in a bed that she found. Goldilocks made a lot of decisions, she wasn t the only one though. Little Red Riding Hood is another fairy tale that we all know. Little Red made numerous decisions herself, she decided to bring her ill Granny some soup in hopes of making her feel better. Little Red decided to go into the woods alone, she decided to proceed fearlessly into the woods, even though there may be a malicious wolf lurking in the trees. Goldilocks and Little Red both made decisions, those decisions were similar, in that both of their decisions involved the girls going into the woods unaccompanied, going into a house and more. • 14. What You Don t Know Might Kill You What You Don t Know Might Kill You Millions of Americans wake up every morning and make a decision about what they will eat for breakfast to jump start their day. Some may reach for a bowl of Cheerios or multigrain cereal, while others may opt for yogurt, toast, or a pastry. Some people choose to wash down their breakfast with pulp free orange juice, while some may drink a protein drink or an invigorating coffee to get them going. For lunch, many people will consume sandwiches piled high with meats and cheeses or perhaps a cheap meal from the nearest fast food restaurant. When it comes to dinner, this meal may vary from family to family, but most dinners consist of a starch or two, a kind of meat, some variation of a vegetable on a good day, and a dessert to finish out the day. People who regularly eat this way have more than just food in common. In fact, most people who constantly eat the previously mentioned American diet, suffer from some sort of physical, mental, or emotional illness, whether it be chronic headaches, poor gut health, obesity, diabetes, asthma, chronic fatigue, ADHD, anxiety, or any of the other thousands of health problems. Many people suffering from these illnesses are led to believe that there is no direct cure and that they will just have to cope with their illness. Hawthorne describes the manner in which she immerges from the jail and how the town reacts, in the quote Those who had before known her, and had expected to behold her dimmed and obscured by a disastrous cloud, were astonished, and even startled, to perceive how her beauty shone out, and made a halo of the misfortune and ignominy in which she had enveloped (46). • 16. The Lightning Thief Book And Movie Analysis Movies are Thieves A common goal of Hollywood productions is to attract a vast audience. In order to earn mass profits from their movies, directors will change any storyline to create an easy to follow, action filled success. The Lightning Thief novel, written by Rick Riordan, and The Lightning Thief motion picture provide excellent examples of how books are morphed into classic, money making attractions. Even though The Lightning Thief book and movie both share main characters and settings, the book expresses more detail and educates the audience while the movie focuses more on action and convenience, allowing for more errors between plots. Action is one of many differences found between the book and the motion picture. The entire plot of the movie revolves around finding and fighting for the pearls of Persephone, but in the book, Percy, the main character, receives the pearls as a gift on behalf of his father for use in a time of trouble. The settings and opponents faced by Percy and his companions, Annabeth and Grover, are the same: Medusa at the Emporium, Hydra at the Parthenon replica, and the Lotus eaters at the casino. However, the reward for winning in the book is survival, not a pearl as portrayed in the movie. Another example is the scene involving Hades Minotaur. Percy is not an experienced fighter at the beginning of the book; therefore, Percy faints after taking one of the Minotaur s horns. The movie illustrates Percy as a potentially skilled hero in ... Other types of life cycles are sequential life cycles and prototyping life cycles. Sequential life cycles include models such as the Pure Waterfall Method, differ from agile because the product is not delivered until the end of the project. The waterfall method however, implements phases such as the agile method but, these phases produce documentation not working deliverables to the customer. The study analyses the two options available to Brent on which the future of his company depends. The first option is the strategic alliance with Imagine and the second option is to work on workbook which will deal with marketing related issues for small and medium size businesses for example proper advertising and product development. The advantages and disadvantages related to the options are discussed with a final recommendation based on personal opinion. Strategic Alliance with Imagine Alternative As stated in the case study, Brent is not a graphic designer, thus he relies on other local companies to create finished ads and web pages. Recently he was approached by a design firm he has worked with named Imagine with a business offer. With Imagine willing to let EMS share a rented office space the client referral promise, the offer seems worthwhile but it has its own advantages and disadvantages. He wanted to be a socially conscious singer/composer just like Guthrie (Heatly, 126). As the times changed, Dylan became a musical chameleon. He was able to conform to the changes in the popularity in music. Dylan s career started with folk and protest music in the early 1960 s then moved through to electrified folk rock in the mid and late 1960 s and early 1970 s (Kamin). After the Civil Rights, most fans found Dylan s folk music more admiring and significant than anything he had ever wrote; popularity formed by creating the raw sounding combo of vocals, harmonica and guitar. That mixture alone has kept his music career last him forty seven years (Rathbone). Dylan did not want to stop there; he wanted to evolve into the new generation of music. Dylan cross pollinated folk and country music with electric rock, creating an entirely new dimension of popular music (Heatly, 126). He liked to mix sounds and experiment different styles to meet his high expectations of creativity. He created the new style called folk rock mixing his original folk sound but began to play electric guitar to embrace rock and roll (Dylan). Many people have an indifferent attitude towards the penniless, believing that it is their fault they are in the situation in the first place. Shakespeare questions this notion. At the start of King Lear, Lear and Gloucester are both unconcerned about the homeless and even subject their kin to a state of removal from society. However, their attitudes change when they both experience wretchedness for themselves and they develop empathy for the destitute. Current technology makes such a scenario feasible. However, such a compilation of publicly available information seems like quite an intrusion of privacy. Yet, this ability to track someone?s actions could be used to catch potential criminals and terrorists. A terrorist could research how to make a bomb online, take flight lessons, and communicate with other terrorists over email. If this activity were properly monitored, the terrorist could be caught before any harm was done. Current practices of monitoring based on the Patriot Act have been given credit for catching more terrorists than ever before[3]. • 41. Beauty Of A Girl With Doves Beauty Among Death in Gravestone of a Girl with Doves The High Classical Greek Period is considered to be the Golden Age in Greek Art according to Art Historians (Pearson). This period from 450 400 BCE held a lot of destruction because of the wars going between the Athens and Sparta, known as the Peloponnesian War, however, there was also a lot of beauty during this period because sculptures and architects made art that depicted victory over wars won, such as the Parthenon. Despite all the madness happening during this high classical period, a peaceful piece of art was born. Gravestone of a Girl with Doves is a Greek marble sculpture that was found on the island of Paros and dates back to 450 440 B.C. Although it has typical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since this sculpture is a gravestone, I felt that the sculptor made this gravestone with a gradient effect with the low/high reliefs in order to signify that the young girl was fading away into death. A peplos, which is a typical garment seen on specifically women in Greek art, hangs over her shoulders and seems to create a dragging down feeling to the sculpture since peplos is heavy fabric. The peplos also accentuates her body without actually revealing much of anything, which was appropriate considering the time period, the age of the girl depicted, and the purpose that the sculpture served as, which is as a gravestone. There is no movement whatsoever, but there does seem to be a subtle vertical line running through the young girl s contropossto stature. An expression is worth a thousand words. The young girl depicted shows no emotion, which is a typical characteristic in the classical greek style. It looks as though the girl depicted has her mind somewhere else, which actually creates a sense of peacefulness since her expression is not one of pain or discomfort . Unlike most Greek sculptures that are massive in size, this sculpture is smaller because it depicts the death of a small child. According to the description besides this sculpture, the doves that the girl is holding represent her innocence of childhood. They can also represent the kind of person she ... • 42. Abraham Lincoln And The Abolition Of Slavery Even though the abolishment of slavery is a glorious accomplishment during his administration, it was not the only defining factor of Abraham Lincoln when he was president. Lincoln saw past the inequality of black and white and regarded equality and freedom above all as a basis for a united nation because he wrote the Gettysburg Address at a crucial time during the civil war to earn favor among freed slaves and to those opposed to slavery in the North and he decreed the Emancipation Proclamation as a stepping stone to achieve his ultimate goal. Lincoln had deep feelings on the subject of liberty. He knew it was a vital but delicate concept, which needed to be cared for. Nearly a ten years earlier, in the midst of agitation over the Kansas Nebraska Act, Lincoln had said in Peoria, Illinois: Little by little, but steadily as man s march to the grave, we have been giving up the old for the new faith. Nearly eighty years ago we began by declaring that all men are created equal; but now from that beginning we have run down to the other declaration, that for some men to enslave others is a sacred right of self government. These principles cannot stand together. They are as opposite as God and Mammon; and whoever holds to the one must despise the other. (1) Perhaps as a young man, Lincoln had done his share of useless labor to fulfill his quota. Lincoln did what was necessary and, in return, he expected others to do the same. His work ethic was key to his attitudes toward ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Social Unity In John Steinbeck s The Grapes Of Wrath Social Unity in Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath The unity of mankind is a theme that has been often reflected in literature, in politics, and in philosophy. Throughout history, it has been articulated by such luminaries as John Donne, who famously wrote that no man is an island ; Ralph Waldo Emerson, who developed the concept of the Oversoul; and more recently John Steinbeck, who as an author brought the theme of social unity into a new, popularly accessible light. Regarded as an exceedingly influential figure in American literature, Steinbeck saw man as a part of a whole, often against a background of the disintegration of larger social and economic units and systems ( Biography of John Steinbeck 12). This view is reflected most directly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning of The Grapes of Wrath, Jim Casy is depicted as a former preacher whose life has recently been changed by a series of radical, almost transcendentalist revelations, such as that sin is an empty concept and that the souls of all people are part of a greater whole. He reasons that while he may not truly know and love Jesus, [m]aybe it s all men and all women we love; maybe that s the Holy Sperit . . . Maybe all men got one big soul ever body s apart of (Steinbeck 31). At first, he has yet to act upon these ideas, only revealing them to a couple of characters, including Tom Joad. However, this changes when he moves with the Joads to California; there, he begins to engage in altruism and active self sacrifice out of his deep regard for his fellow man. For instance, when an aggressive deputy is injured by Tom Joad and another migrant worker, Casy takes the blame and lets himself be arrested, reasoning that the cops will jus put me in jail, an I ain t doin nothin but set aroun (342). Later, after being released from prison, he becomes a labor leader in the midst of a strike. He explains his new devotion to organizing migrant workers by reasoning that people are strongest when ... • 45. My Professional Development Plan Is Directed Towards... My personal professional development plan is directed towards helping me become a better teacher to help students learn and reach their full potential. The skills I am working on to be a better teacher include, better time management, communication, and having a stronger teacher voice. I plan to work on these goals throughout my time at York College of Pennsylvania and achieve them by the time I have completed my student teaching, which will be in three years. If I feel a goal has been achieved before I complete my student teaching, I plan to add a new goal, while still focusing on my previous goals to make them even stronger qualities. My first skill is to have better time management. As of now, I feel I do have strong time management when dealing with arriving early and planning my day out efficiently. I do have trouble with staying in the projected time frame during lessons. For example, if I have thirty minutes to teach a lesson, I may take thirty five to forty minutes. Typically, this is due to introduction of my lesson. I believe students need to grasp the concept in the beginning of the lesson to be able to build off of the information and complete activities on their own without the help of other students or myself. Like I said, as of now, I do have fair time management skills, but they certainly need improvement. My goal is to be able to plan lessons and keep them in the projected time frame; this includes being within 2 minutes under or over. There are several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Isis In A Containable Prison Case Study Kaitlyn, Comment: I think that you did a nice job and have a solid argument, in a perfect world I believe that this is what we should do. But because individual countries are stubborn an International Court may not have authority. This raises some questions that I have for you, although I do agree with what you said I also think that the likelihood of an International Court being corporative is not realistic. Question: How do you plan on containing all of ISIS in a containable prison after the shut down of Alcatraz? There is no prison on US soil that can hold the amount of high profile criminals. Also how are you planning on arresting all of the criminals incorporated in ISIS and transporting them to the United States? Going off of what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Benefits Of Using Plastic On Food Industry Veronika Kavun Professor Allen Austin SCI 2000 27 April 2016 Edible Alternatives To Single Use Plastic In Food Industry Plastic pollution has reached the all time high. According to recent research, there are already more than 5 trillion plastic pieces weighing over 250 000 tons afloat in the oceans (Eriksen et al., 2014). Sustainablecoastlines.org, a New Zealand Charity dedicated to cleaning up the island s coastlines, estimates that 72.4% of all plastic pollution in the Pacific oceans consists of single use plastics, 22.5% of which is food wrappers, containers and bottle caps ( Our Impact ). Those numbers spell out an urgency to come up with a sustainable solution that will slow down the production of plastic debris while maintaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Biodegradable plastics, produced from food based products rather than petroleum, although very promising, still represent a very small percentage of the waste problem. Those should be broken down only in specialized composting facilities through a controlled process that still produces considerable amounts of methane (Dell, 2010). Clearly, the issue needs a completely different approach. Edible alternatives to plastic are the next logical step to solving the contamination problem. Designers of edible packaging borrowed the concept from nature. Just like apple or grape skins, those ultra thin but strong membranes are capable of holding both liquid and solid foods while being completely washable. Edible plastics can be made from vegetables, fruits or nuts with some chitosan (biopolymer) or alginate (algae extract). Once those particles are gelatinized, they create the firm but edible skin which mimics resistance of conventional plastics. This kind of packaging will still need an outer box or a bag to keep the product clean on the shelf, but the individual servings will no longer have to be ripped open and discarded. Instead, they can be dissolved in hot liquid directly or rinsed off and eaten together with the contents. Some examples of this new zero waste food industry ideas have already appeared on the ...
