Essay on U.S. Military s Nuclear Technology
U.S. Military s Nuclear Technology
Albert Einstein once said, The splitting of the atom has changed everything save our mode of thinking
and thus we drift toward unparalleled catastrophe .It is a very true statement.Since the discovery of
nuclear technology there have been many different usages of this powerful, dangerous, and destructive
energy source. The US is one of the most powerful military forces of the world.Part of that reason is
because of its nuclear technology and capabilities. Also, the amount of nuclear weapons and equipment
far out numbers those of most competing countries. On top of that the military s ease of nuclear
weapons deployment to any target in the world also makes it a force to be reckoned with.

ows it to continuously patrol the world s seas for many years without requiring to be refueled.Another
advantage to this type of source of power is that does not require big bulky engines, which enables the
submarine to move more swiftly and stealthily; as well as provide more room and storage for supplies.
[3]
Another nuclear technological advance in the US military is the nuclear aircraft carrier. The aircraft
carrier is the heart of the US Navy.By adding nuclear technology to these massive giants of the sea, it
only makes the Navy s heart beat stronger. The main power sources of a nuclear aircraft carrier are two
GE pressurized water reactors, which power four turbines.[4]Like the nuclear powered submarine,
nuclear reactors are the main source of energy for the carriers. Also, having a nuclear reactor as a main
source of energy enables the carriers to sail all over the world for many years without having to
constantly refuel.[5]Having nuclear power aircraft carriers in its arsenal allows the US to virtually
have multiple floating bases anywhere in the world at one time. The nuclear reactor also allows the
carrier to reach its destination sooner, possibly preventing an outbreak of conflict or seeing to a rapid
conclusion of a conflict.[6]
In addition to the nuclear technology applied to its naval vehicles, the military has also applied nuclear
technology to its missiles.A nuclear weapon is defined as something that explodes using the power
unleashed by splitting the

Pros And Cons Of For-Profit Universities
There are many individuals who believe, that for profit universities and colleges pose a significant
threat to American higher education, and that they should be banned, I also agree with this outlook on
for profit universities. According to Sheffield s article, For profit schools enable low income and racial
minority students, including many who are non traditional, to gain practical, skills based training that
better equips them for the marketplace relative to many traditional academic paths. For profit colleges
and universities differ from non profit colleges and universities because they can be completed in a
shorter amount of time. The training at these schools is typically focused on only vocational skills, i.e.
business and office, technical education and within the trade industry. For profit colleges can be seen
in many different forms, there are online schools such as the University of Phoenix, technical schools,
culinary schools, and etc. For profit schools are profit seeking schools, the price is high and some may
say that the cost of the tuition is not always going to the students. For profit universities also come
with big opinions for and against them. For profit colleges tend to be looked down upon because of
the price tag that comes along with them. For profit universities are incredibly expensive and tuition
dollars typically do not go towards the students. These colleges survive on their marketing strategies,

aldol reaction Essay
Aldol In this preparative lab, an aldol (trans p anisalacetophenone) was produced from the reaction
between p anisaldehyde and acetophenone with the presence sodium hydroxide. The reaction also
showed the importance of an enolate and the role it played in the mechanism. Sodium hydroxide acts
as a catalyst in this experiment and is chosen because of its basic conditions and pH. The
acetophenone carries an alpha hydrogen that has a pKa between 18 and 20. This alpha hydrogen is
acidic because of its location near the carbonyl on acetophenone. When the sodium hydroxide is
added, it deprotonates the hydrogen and creates an enolate ion. This deprotonation creates a
nucleophilic carbon that can attack an electrophilic carbon (like a parent ... Show more content on

The initial product is the beta hydroxyketone, which rapidly undergoes dehydration and creates the
final product, trans p anisalacetophenone. Technically, both the carbonyls cannot be mixed together
with sodium hydroxide to get one product. We will get a dominant product of trans p
anisalacetophenone. This reaction is an exception and we get away with it. P anisaldehyde and
acetophenone together only make one enolate. This helps our exception, but there are still two
carbonyls. With our weak base, we should be worried about acetophenone reacting with itself but we
are not. This is due to steric hindrance, like I stated earlier. Aldehydes are better electrophilic carbons
and therefore the ketone will react with the aldehyde faster than reacting with itself. It will quickly
form the product trans p anisalacetophenone because it is the favored product. We do not have to use
expensive LDA, we can use the weaker base and get away with it. The reaction took place in a conical
vial and .2mL of each of the reactant samples were added to it along with some 95% ethanol. Two
drops of NaOH were added shortly after and stirred at room temperature for fifteen minutes. The vial
was cooled in and ice bath and crystallized. Vacuum filtration was performed to filter the crude
product. The crude product was recrystallized using methanol and filtered again. We made one change
to the procedure and instead of using .7mL of ethanol we

Boarding School Vs Boarding Schools
Christmas, Hanukkah, spanish, Hindi, church ceremonies, and other cultural events and languages like
these our well known and loved, but could you imagine going to a school where you were not aloud to
speak and celebrate these holidays? Between 1879 1918 Carlisle Indian Industrial School kept native
children, stripped them of their culture and made them into what they feel is the average white person.
Yes some kids loved the school and benefits from the school, while other did not. Almost a century
later, a boarding school opened on the other side of the country for foster youth. San Pasqual Academy
opened in 2001, and has been the home for many foster youth over the years. SPA and CIIS have
many things in common and many things that are different. The end goal for both schools is to help
prepare their students for the outside world.
SPA has many success stories when it comes to their students going to college and making sure their
students have what they need to succeed. SPA provides independent living skills and helps students
learn money management, cooking, cleaning and how to do chores around the house. They help set
structure for the students so that they will be ready to live on their own. CIIS also made sure that their
students would be ready for the outside world. They taught the native boys about industrial skills so
that they will know how to work, and the females learned about home skills, such as baking, landry
and other house chores. Both schools taught their

The Influence Of Love In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Simply put, love is mysterious. As humans have evolved, it arguably remains one of the least
understood concepts in existence. As Helen Fisher quoted Emily Dickinson, Romantic love is an
obsession, it possesses you. You lose your sense of self. The successful neurologists studied the effects
of the human love for years and concluded that love propels individuals to often follow their heart
instead of the less spontaneous route that the mind would suggest. One example of the influence of
love is reflected in the play, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. It narrates the tragic love
story of two star crossed lovers that, despite the short period of time the couple was acquainted,
engaged in love at first sight. As the plot progressed, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the presentation regarding the brain s peculiar patterns, Helen Fisher noted that no matter
how much people want to ignore and suppress their complicated feelings, love is needed for existence.
In her studies, she explained that she and her partner scanned specific areas of the brain to examine
chemical levels. In short, her experiment observed categories of people in love, recently dumped, or
remained in love for over 20 years. The participants that had chosen love were proven to show
increased levels of dopamine and other hormones that corresponded to happiness and elation.
Surprisingly, the same location of the brain held activity for the recently dumped participants,
however, they felt extreme desperation. In other words, although they wanted to forget about their
dissatisfaction in a ceased relationship, or erase the significant other from their memory, they were
unable to do so because the brain only longed for them more due to the absence. Helen Fisher
perfectly summarized this feeling by quoting, I remember what you said to me. I am thinking of your
love for me. I am torn by your love for me. This contrast symbolizes the intensity of love, whether it
be present or faded, the brain will stay fixed on the object of your affection. In addition, many people

Body Language Of A Silent Film
Language developed tremendously through the use of silent films in the 1800s and early 1900s. A
silent film is that which consists of only the picture, and no sound. This was an era of truly
transformative filmmaking, forcing writers and producers to have to step out of a comfort zone in
order to allow purely visual expressions to touch their audiences and convey their stories. This was
achieved through a greater emphasis on facial expressions and body language. Firstly, one of the
greatest movies in the silent era was that by Keaton, Sherlock Jr. This film encompasses all the core
principles of telling a story through silence and overcoming the cinematic boundaries of its day. The
key to achieving this is through the direct expressiveness of the body language of the actors alongside
the plot and how Keaton specifically selected the scenes. The film begins with a love story between a
wealthy girl (Kathryn McGuire) and a projectionist at a local movie theatre. His dream to become a
detective is what drives the film. A memorable scene in the movie is that in the candy shop when
Keaton goes to buy the chocolates for the girl. This was performed entirely in pantomime, allowing
the audience to get in touch with the film, and comprehend his desperation to woo the girl. He
shadows Crane, who is larger in size than he is, mimicking his body language and gestures. This was
done using a tracking shot. Keaton s framing techniques were clear enough to tell the story,
particularly when

Comparing Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing Essay
Comparing Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing
As illustrated by the two plays Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing, William Shakespeare
was a true romantic. In each play, his characters suffer great hardship, but in the end, he delivers them
to a life of eternal love. Characters plot against each other in each play. The relationships of the people
in his plays are not always what they seem. Whether it be a tragedy or a comedy, Shakespeare
encompasses three elements into his plays: love, intrigue, and identity.
Love is the biggest theme in both Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing. In both plays, hate
acts as a force that attempts to tear both lovers apart, but their love holds them together. In Romeo and
Juliet, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The nurse makes it possible for Romeo and Juliet to be married by relaying information between the
two. In Much Ado About Nothing, Beatrice and Benedick also have liaisons. Friends of Beatrice give
the illusion that Benedick is madly in love with Beatrice and Benedick s friends do the same.
Eventually, Benedick and Beatrice realize they are in love. They would have never gotten together if
the liaisons had not intervened.
Identity also plays a major role in both plays. In Romeo and Juliet, the lovers would never expect to
fall in love because they have been raised to hate each other s families. Romeo never would have
taken it upon himself to court someone in Juliet s family because in those two families it is considered
forbidden. Beatrice and Benedick from Much Ado About Nothing insulted each other every chance
they could. They considered their relationship as a friendly one, but until their friends set Beatrice and
Benedick up, they never thought they would fall in love with each other. Had both couples taken their
relationships at face value, they would never gotten together.
Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing, two very different plays; however, they both contain
love, intrigue and identity. Even with forces working against them, Romeo and Juliet and Claudio and
Hero fell in love and were married. Characters were able to fall in love with the aid of the liaisons who
helped them make sure things worked. Lovers would not have

Jackie Robinson Accomplishments
Jackie Robinson was an important figure in the civil rights movement. His greatest accomplishment,
however, was integrating baseball. He made many Americans excited about it because he was the first
African American to ever play in Major League Baseball. Also, he did many things for the civil rights
movement. The integration of baseball set off a reaction of different movements to desegregate places
like schools, public facilities, and the army. Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo,
Georgia. However, at an early age of one year old, his single mother moved Jackie and four other
siblings to Pasadena, California. In Pasadena, Jackie and his family grew up in poverty. Even though
his family was impoverished, they lived in a predominately white neighborhood where they faced lots
of discrimination for the simple fact that they were black. As Jackie was growing up, he excelled in
baseball, basketball, football, and track. He went to John Muir High School where he was a letterman

My Vacation
Could the day become any worse? One afternoon, my grandmother was looking for houses, I wanted
to go to the mall before 8 because there a huge sale. Suddenly the car started to make disturbing
noises, when we stopped at the stoplight the car cut off and begun to overheat! The mall was already
about to close and the car was steaming! So we decided to relax and turn the radio on. My favorite
song came on and the man on the radio offered $200,000 to the first caller, we called and won the
money! My aunt and I called my grandmother to tell her the amazing news, she said this would be the
perfect time to go on vacation! so my family decided we would like to travel within the united states
and while there, we would visit the cities of New York City, Hollywood, and Miami.
The first city my family will visit is New York City! When my family and I arrive we will check into a
room at the Plaza Hotel. I will take my sister and little cousin on the balcony to see the beautiful view!
Kinslea my sister will be ecstatic when she sees the lights from the huge towers and shops above us.
Soon later, my family and I will go to time square to see all of the unique shops, I will purchase a few
outfits for the trip. When we return back to our room we will dress up for supper at the view on the
48th floor, we will relax and watch the alluring view of the city as we revolve around and enjoy our
meal. I will order my favorite food steak! When we arrive back to the room I will slip

The Day That Changed America Essay
The Day That Changed America
On September 11, 2001, America as we know it changed forever. We were attacked on our own soil
for the first time since the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. Our country thought we were safe from
terrorist attacks due to the oceans that separated us. We discovered on that horror filled day that we
were extremely incorrect. Our own resources were used against us in those atrocious acts of terrorism.
America was transformed from the numerous consequences that came from 9/11. Despite the attacks,
the leaders and our nation came together for support and comfort.
Four planes were used in the terrorist attempt to tear the nation apart. Five hijackers apprehended
American Airlines Flight 11 and used that commercial airplane to crash into the North Tower in New
York s World Trade Center at 8:46 a.m. At 9:03 a.m., five more hijackers overtook the pilots of United
Airlines Flight 175 to fly into the South Tower. American Airlines Flight 77 was also seized by five
terrorists and used to crash into the western side of the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. The Capitol or the White
House was thought to be the fourth hijacked plane s target. Because of the heroics of the passengers
on United Airlines Flight 93, the plane was forced down in a rural field near Shanksville,
Pennsylvania at 10:03 a.m. Flight 93 s voice recorder showed that the passengers and crew tried to
regain control from the hijackers. The people aboard that flight were informed of the attacks that took

Greek and Roman plays, and even Indeed ancient Indian plays (a common Indo European Tradition),

always tragedies.
Be it Homer s Iliad or Odessey. The hero after long travails always seemed to return to nothing and

Oedipus the king thought highly about himself and in his pride, thought himself above everyone. And
said to the people of the city You pray to the gods? Let me grant your prayers (1231 Oedipus Rex).
Oedipus did not see his own life for what it was or the mere mortal that he was. He was vain in that
sense, having a lot of pride in who he was and what he had done for the city, after all he was the man
who outsmarted the last plague on the city, and saved the city for the citizens. This unfortunately went
to his head, and made him arrogant.
Jacota was his wife and mother, her character has also been depicted as unwilling to see the truth. She
knew in detail about the happenings on night her husband, King Laius was killed, but made it out that
there were more than one stranger who murdered him. This remark threw Oedipus off, and he then
began searching harder for more clues to this mystery.
By this point in the story, Jacota had too much pride to admit what was happening. Later she hung
herself so she did not have to face it anymore. In a fashion, Oedipus was a blessed with a good heart
and noble intentions, but with a dark fate. He made an honest king, as a king of Thebes, and he wanted
the best for his citizens, and he wanted to rid them of the plague that afflicted them. An example of his
loyalty was that he sent Creon and he persevered to hunt the murderer to stop the plague. Oedipus was

NCAA Recruiting Analysis
College athletics have become huge business. Therefore, coaches are under pressure to sign the best
recruits. Jim Harbaugh went so far as having a sleepover at a recruit s house (Schwartz, 2016).
According to Remillard (2014), Texas A M used a helicopter in their recruiting efforts (p. 7). These
two examples are within the NCAA recruiting rules. However, many programs violate the rules every
year to gain an advantage in recruiting. Unfortunately, many programs, like Louisville, use sex or
money to entice athletes to come to their program (ESPN, 2015).
Some programs are even using their uniforms as a recruiting tool (Crabtree, 2013). Our post literate
culture is becoming more focused on images and quick messages. Recruiters must continue to evolve
their recruiting techniques in order to convince the best recruits to come to their program. In a
competitive field, coaches will use every advantage they can to land the top recruits. ... Show more

According to an ESPN pole, academics ranked as the most important factor for recruits (Crabtree,

the association s belief in student athletes as students first is a foundational principle ( Frequently ,

academics even if no one else is doing it. It is the responsibility of the athletic director and coaching

Hypothesis Synthesis Essay
In order for alien eyes to see what humans can t see the structure and the amount of their
photoreceptor cells, have to differ.
Humans have three cone cells that are extremely sensitive to Red, (620 700nm), Green (490 570nm)
and Blue (450 495nm) wavelengths of light. Although these three cones are most sensitive to these
wavelengths, they are still sensitive to the remaining wavelengths of visible light between 400 700nm.
When a light with a wavelength of 600nm is transmitted through the retina, the Red and Green cones
capture, sense and signal the brain that orange light is observed. In this case the Red and Green cones
absorb light but the Green cones are less sensitive. Also, the Blue cones don t absorb much light and
are not sensitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, if they were put in a similar situation where 600nm of light were to be observed, then their
yellow cones would signal an observation to their brain different than that of humans. In this
wavelength (600nm) only the yellow cone cells are activated and absorb light, therefore domestic dogs
would observe yellow light and humans would observe orange light.
If an Infrared Light with a wavelength of 750 nm were to be observed by humans, they would not be
able to because none of their cone cells are sensitive to this wavelength of light, in a similar manner
that the blue cone cells weren t sensitive to the 600 nm wavelength of light. It is only possible for the
human brain to view lights that are absorbed by their photoreceptor cells.
Furthermore, there are aquatic organisms such as the mantis shrimp that has an estimated 12 16
photoreceptor cells. In the presence of the 750 nm wavelength of light that humans cone cells aren t
sensitive enough to signal an observation, the mantis shrimps red cone cells are sensitive to this
wavelength of light and can absorb the wavelengths to send a response to their brain. In the presence
of UV B (290 320 nm) wavelengths, humans blue cone cells aren t sensitive enough or able to absorb
enough of the light to signal a response to their brain. Whereas the Mantis Shrimp has various photo
receptors that are sensitive to these

Hate In The Count Of Monte Cristo

multiple characters. As described by oxforddictionaries.com, hate is to have a strong aversion to

you trod on the way to fortune, the man whose father you caused to die of hunger... (Dumas 522). All
Edmond Dantes wanted to accomplish to make Danglars suffer and strip away the the only thing that

their victim, Edmond took Danglar s fortune while Mephistopheles siezed Faust s soul. The picture is

Exploring the Theme of Moral Responsibility in Daniel...
We are destroying the earth in order to survive. What is our Moral Responsibility?
Daniel Quinn has written a book about how things have come to be the way they are. He looks at the

as well as being a Gorilla. Being no ordinary Gorilla, Ishmael recognises the failing of human kind in
relation to their moral responsibilities. He ultimately directs use towards a solution to the problems we

The UK Parliament has made considerable movement towards helping schools in Britain to become
kinder to the planet. The Scottish government has introduced an eco schools programme into the
British school system. These eco schools and the government hold close links with Education for
sustainable development (ESD).
We have to learn our way out of current social and environmental problems and learn to live

The eco schools programme offers environmental education that benefits the pupils by developing the
skills in them that will help them live a morally responsible life.
I believe anyone who reads this book will be made to stop and think about their contribution to the
suffering of the world. It is extremely thought provoking book; it makes you question how society
functions and the life you live. This is a dominant theme in all RE classrooms. It is imperative that
pupils think of the world they live in and how they can help make it a better place. One thing Ishmael
points out is humans existed for millions of years without the modern view of civilisation. It was not
until the modern world was introduced that earth began to suffer . The damage that came about due to
the modern world Ishmael has a solution. His answer to it is to move on from what he calls a taker

How Did John Calvin s Impact On Christianity
John Calvin made an extremely large and powerful impact on Christianity as a whole, and that impact
can still be seen today. Calvin was born in a small town in the country in France, but eventually
became, and is still regarded as the theologian Martin Luther s successor during one of Christianity s
most shaping events of the time, the Protestant Reformation. At first, he had studied Protestantism due
to his father being a priest, but he became the possible most important people of the second part of the
Reformation. Calvin originally never wanted to become a part of the Reformation, but he had a lasting
effect on the years to follow, even despite being persecuted, and threatened with death in the Great
Inquisition. He had the goal, like most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
[3, 2] This officially started the Christian Protestant group and group of churches known as Calvinists
and Calvinism. [4] The services in Calvinist churches were quite simple. The services mainly focused
on the sermons, those he created and used were often later referred to as logical. Calvin banned
musical instruments from ever entering his churches, even though he liked music, he said that
distracted people from the matter in hand. , but singing in congregations was allowed calling it an
effective way of spreading the message. [3,1,2] Everything relating to worship came from the
Scriptures, a view on the Bible based on the Hebrew Scriptures.[3] In 1541, Calvin created the
Ecclesiastical Ordinances, which were things to be viewed the same as one would law. It stated that:
there were to be no bishops, that all ministers were equal, that there would be no hierarchy of people
and that God is the most powerful, that ministers had to preach, follow and give the sacraments that
were to be recognized by the church, and that normal people could be elected to help with the church,
and to provide a link between Church and state.[3] Calvin strongly followed God s wishes like
drinking no alcoholic beverages, and to say grace before eating a meal, but Calvin wish for

Biography Of Photographer Art Rogers
In 1980, photographer Art Rogers was commissioned to picture Jim Scanlon s eight new German
Shepherds. Through creative thought and technical works, he photographed Scanlon, his wife, and
their dogs into the photograph Puppies. He soon licensed the image and sold it to be available as prints
and notecards. During Jeff Koons visit in Europe, he bought a Puppies notecard and gave it to Italian
artisans in the Demetz Studio to produce four copies of it as sculptures called String of Puppies. The
sculptures were placed in the 1988 Banality Show exhibition at the Sonnabend Gallery. Plaintiff
photographer Art Rogers claimed that defendant Jeff Koons copyrighted his photograph Puppies into
the sculpture String of Puppies. Koons argued his borrowing of Puppies was permissible under the fair
use doctrine and for parody. Rogers filed an action on October 11, 1989, seeking summary judgement
and permanent injunction for plagiarism and unfair competition under state laws.
Issue
Was defendant Koons String of Puppies borrowing of Roger s Puppies permissible under the fair use
doctrine and parody or was this a work of unauthorized copyright infringement?
Decision
The Court of Appeals ruled Koon s String of Puppies is copyright infringement and does not meet the
fair use doctrine and for parody use since Koon failed to satisfy the ordinary observer test and Section
107 factors. Turnover order was proceeded and granted permanent injunction of Puppies to be used in

Titanium appears on the periodic table under the symbol...
Titanium appears on the periodic table under the symbol Ti. The transition metal is known for being
very strong. When a person thinks of an element that is very strong, they also think that the item
would be very heavy. Titanium is different; the element is very strong, but it is also very light weight.
Since Titanium is so strong, it is named after the strong Greek mythology Titans (History of
Titanium). The element, Titanium, is one of the most abundant elements. The metallic element is
found in many alloys; those alloys are found in many items today (The Editors). The top physical
property that titanium is recognized for is its strength to weight ratio. Titanium is very strong, but it is

The factors also make it a great candidate for surgical instruments. Since the element is resistant to
corrosion from things such as sea water and chlorine, it is often found being used in the industrial
world. One of the most common places that Titanium is found is in desalination plants, which convert
sea water into drinking water. The element is used in heat exchangers; if the heat exchangers were
made of a different element they would need to be replaced more often due to corrosion. A very strong
alloy is produced when Titanium is combined with iron, aluminum, vanadium, and molybdenum. This
alloy is found in large items such as: jet engines, missiles, spacecraft, military equipment, and even
automobiles. The alloy is also used in many things that we are known to love. Americans usually carry
items with them everyday that are made up of this alloy. For example, right now in my car I have
many items that are made up of the alloy such as: jewelry, a cell phone, and a football helmet grill
(History of Titanium). The element, Titanium, has a very low toxicity. Although, when Titanium is in
powder form it is becomes a fire hazard (Titanium). The other time that Titanium is a hazard is when it
is heated in the air. The element then becomes an explosive hazard. When Titanium does catch on fire,

Christians and the Environment
Christian theology states that God created the earth and gave it as a gift to humans to be shared with
all other living creatures. This belief is known as the Creation centered approach to the natural
environment (Massaro, p.163). This approach emphasizes the value of nature by recognizing humans
as being an equal part of God s creation under which all species deserve protection (Massaro, p.163).
With such publicly known cases of pollution like the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico or Bethlehem
Steel s pollution of Lake Erie decades ago, it is evident that humans have been using the environment
in accordance with the Stewardship or even the Dominion model, both of which place humans above
all other creations. According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Nawaraj argues that natural disasters such as massive earthquakes or volcanic activity are still a
possibility in the area around Yucca Mountain, and that such disasters would inevitably cause the
proposed massive storage container to leak radioactive waste into the land and water supply. This is
why Dr. Nawaraj suggests keeping the radioactive waste in aboveground containers located
throughout the country. Dr. Nawaraj justifies his solution by saying that such facilities maximize the
autonomy and decision processes of future generations...it would allow for the development of new
technologies to deal with the material in better ways than primitive burial (Gudorf and huchingson, p.
110). Government officials had similar thoughts because, facing the objection of the Yucca Mountain
site by the state of Nevada in 2009, the federal government decided not to use Yucca Mountain and
instead, impose an interim solution of storing all nuclear was in aboveground facilities nearby nuclear
power plants (Gudorf and huchingson, p. 114). But which storage method, if any, is the most morally
sound solution when thinking about future generations? Both previously mentioned methods of
storing radioactive waste carry with them some sort of burden for future generations. If history has
taught mankind anything, it is that nature, no matter how many calculations are made, cannot be one

The way the Mayan s made their clothes was they used the fabrics, like cotton and hemp and other

because of their vast trading network the Aztecs were able to make use of a beautiful array of dyes,
creating the brilliant colors still seen in Mexico today. When you think about the Ancient Aztec

B. D. Tucker wrote of the possibility of the eye representing a higher being. This sparked the option

possibility of an eye of a higher being, and more so on the Christian side of what the story means.
Tucker wrote more about the ties to The Bible with the three men who come to the door after the
murder. The mentioning of the possibility of the eye as a higher being caused me to pursue how the
eye could be that of the one true God. Focusing on the ending of the story when the three officers I
wanted to look at the influence of God in the earlier stages of the story with the evil eye.
I needed to find where a single eye is used in other areas both in literature and in everyday use. There
were many places to look but none would deal with God until I looked closer at both my Bible and at
the symbolism of one eye. I remembered seeing a single eye on the Great Seal of the United States
both on the eagle and on the capstone of the pyramid. This got me thinking as to when the seal was

Economic And Political Causes Of The American Revolution
The American Revolution was a war between Britain and the thirteen colonies in North America.
Beginning in 1650, Britain began to govern and restrict the colonists in America by compelling them
to obey the Navigation Acts. Between 1650 and 1776, many more constraints were placed on the
colonists and they finally united and protested against their native country. Parliamentary taxation,
restriction of civil freedoms, and the remnant of political ideas all had a role in the incitement of the
American Revolution. There were several causes of the American Revolution, which included,
economic reasons, political reasons, establishment to certain acts, etc.
The first main cause was the Great War for Empire of 1754 1796. It is often referred to as the Seven
Years War though it really lasted nine years. This was a war between the British and French. This war
caused King George III to lose an enormous amount of money. Parliament quickly replace salutary
neglect with imperial administration (A. 133). The enactment the Currency Act of 1764 barred
colonies from using paper money as legal tender. The Currency Act ensured that merchants would be

Speech On Indigenous Poetry
Introduction
This presentation will discuss Indigenous poetry and talk about one particular poem to celebrate
contemporary Indigenous poetry. Poetry is powerful because the pen is mightier than the sword , it is
emotional and is an aesthetic response to words. Poetry is used as a means of expressing issues and
bringing attention to problems. Here, the poem brings attention to the old Australian mindset and talks
about racism. Poetry can also bring changes in certain topics, because it encourages public discourse,
it raises awareness, and lets people see things from other people s perspective. Today, this presentation
will talk about the poet, Charmaine Papertalk Green, the poem, A White Australian Mindset and will
discuss what ethical issue the poem is about. Then, this speech will analyse the main themes and
messages which are shown through different poetic devices, and I will argue that the poem is effective
in communicating its message.
Poet and Poem
The poet, Charmaine Papertalk Green, was born in 1962 in Western Australia, and is an indigenous
Australian poet. The poem discusses the White Australia Policy and the effect that this policy had on
non white people who were living in Australia at this time. It explicitly states some of the racist
comments that were made to these people. The poem also talks about the British having claimed the
land from the Aboriginal people and trying to keep the country all white. Importantly, the poem

How Did Josef Mengele Dehumanize
When Josef Mengele s bones were found, the world let out a sigh of relief. For over forty years
survivors of the Nazi death camps, known as Auschwitz, were haunted by the vision of the handsome,
well dressed man with a caring smile who pointed his white gloved finger either left or right deciding
who lived and who died. Those who passed this man and survived have always remembered him as
the Angel of Death. Dr. Mengele is directly responsible for the deaths of thousands at Auschwitz
concentration camp. Josef Mengele s horrific experiments prove that he is the most dehumanizing
person in history. Dr. Josef Mengele was born on March 16, 1911, in Günzburg, Germany. His upper
middle class family was the proprietors of a machine tools business. Josef Mengele was the eldest son
of Karl Mengele and Walburga Mengele. Josef Mengele was a promising student and went to Munich
to study racial theories and earned a Ph.D. in physical anthropology. He then moved to Frankfurt am

Dr. Mengele wanted to create a Germanic super race. Twins were the perfect specimens because one
twin could act as the control while the other was horribly experimented on. The twins became known
as Mengele s Children. They received special privileges such as being allowed to keep their own
clothes and their hair (Chris Trueman). But Mengele s Children received a much worse fate than most
other prisoners the endless experiments. Each day the twins were awakened for daily blood
withdrawals and X rays. He is reported to have bled some to death this way (Louis Bülow). The blood
withdrawal was not even the half of terrible experiments. Dr. Mengele would often perform
experimental surgery removing organs and limbs without using anesthesia. He also injected chemicals
into the eyes of children in an attempt to change their eye color (Louis Bülow). Out of three thousand
pair of twins that came into Auschwitz, only three hundred came out

He was a member of D Company in the 8th Engineer Combat Battalion during their assault and
capture of hill 775 when the enemy counterattacked. In defense against the counter attack, PFC Brown
had soon expended all of his ammunition for his rifle and took small arms fire, including taking a
wound in the defense of the hill. With no rifle rounds remaining to use on the assaulting enemy, he
utilized what he had hand grenades. However, that supply soon ran out and he was forced to use
whatever his allies in the nearby foxholes could give him. In his search for more ammunition and hand
grenades, he left his defensive positioning, braving enemy fire to continue to attack the enemy forces.
Out of ammunition and hand grenades with the enemy approaching, PFC Brown took cover and drew
out the only thing remaining, his entrenching tool. As each enemy peered over the defensive position
from which Brown was holding, he swung his tool at each of the enemy heads that he saw. Doing so
he assaulted and knocked out one dozen enemy soldiers. Brown s actions as well as that of the
inspiration he had shown to his allies in defense of the position ensured that the enemy forces would
be driven back and counter attack effectively neutralized. When the bodies were cleared after the day
was won, they found scores of dead Korean soldiers near Brown s defensive position many of which
with crushed skulls, but they never found PFC

Essay about Dna in Criminal Investigation
Since its discovery in the 1980 s, the application of DNA has been utilized in many ways. When
Deoxyribonucleic Acid, or DNA is examined, a precise decoding of genetic information is revealed.
With the exception of identical twins, every person s genetic code (commonly referred to as a Genetic
Fingerprint) is inherited and unique. From Maury advising men everyday on TV You ARE the Father!
or You are NOT the Father! to learning the descendents of former slaves are related to President
Thomas Jefferson, we have come to rely upon and expect the accuracy of DNA. DNA almost

The rape victims told police their attacker was about 160 pounds; Anthony Capozzi weighed over 200
pounds. Capozzi has a prominent three inch scar on his face, but none of the rape victims reported
their attacker had a scar. Despite this all three victims identified Anthony Capozzi as the man who
raped them. His case went to trial and he was convicted of two of the three rapes and sentenced to 35
years in prison. The only identification evidence introduced at trial was that of the victims. After he
was convicted, Capozzi s attorney is quoted in the Washington Post as saying, Please don t take
comfort in the fact that Anthony Capozzi has been convicted of these two crimes, because he didn t do
them. Don t feel that you can go running without company in Delaware Park. Capozzi struggled with
mental illness and served 15 years of his prison sentence in Central New York Psychiatric Center.
Capozzi maintained his innocence, and for the 22 years while he was incarcerated his family never
gave up hope. After Capozzi was incarcerated the rapes continued, and the Bike Path Rapist became
the Bike Path Killer. In addition to a continuing series of rapes in the area, two University of Buffalo
students and the wife of a University of Buffalo professor were all murdered. A combination of old
fashioned detective work and the science of DNA helped to solve a case that has spanned over two
decades and involved over twenty five victims. On

Poland s Economic Reform Plan Of 1989
The year of 1989 is generally regarded as a watershed moment in the history of Eastern Europe the
one which effectively ended the dominance of Communist politics in the region formerly known as
the Soviet Bloc. Comprised of Poland, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and East
Germany, this region was politically and economically depended on the Soviet Union that largely
dictated the official ideological orientation of the Soviet Bloc nations. In 1989, the region s
dependence on the Soviet Union effectively came to an end along with the communist hegemony in
Eastern Europe. At the same time, Eastern Europeans finally discovered the opportunity to make a
transition from centralized socialism to democratic and decentralized form of market economy that
was largely modeled on the Western democracies. The following chapter examines the extent to which
Western theoretical and institutional trends influenced Poland s economic reform plan of 1989. At the
same time, it seeks to account for Poland s own local tradition of neoliberal thought. In so doing, it
aims to dispel the oversimplified interpretation of the transnational exchange between Polish and
American economists according to which the former had to learn from scratch while the former
assumed the role of educators. As various commentators have observed, the Eastern European
transition to market economy took Western neoliberalism as its principal ideological model. It is no
secret, for instance, that Jeffrey

Cadbury Schweppes Strategic Dilemma of Trebor Bassett
Cadbury Schweppes is a UK based beverage and confectionary group founded in 1969 with the
merger of two English groups (Cadbury and Schweppes). This family managed group grew and
flourished through the years. It became an international major player in the late 80s and was admired
by its peers for such an ascent.
In 1990 the group bought two little entities from the same business and merged them into a single
unit: Trebor Bassett. The CEO of this unit soon became the CEO of the group (1993) and he then
realized that the success of the past years was seriously in danger and that a real turn needed to be
taken. John Sunderland (CS CEO) and John Stake (Human Resources Director) ... Show more content

Cadbury Schweppes was a global force in chocolate and sugar confectionary, had plants in 25
countries and sold products in more than 170 countries. The company defended its position with many
power brands, like Lion for instance. In 1996 the company had two major objectives: to grow
internationally and to get bigger. For example, the confectionary branch s goal was to sell 1 million
tons of consumption by the year 2000.
However, although the company was globally admired for its performance and its management, its
results were certainly not as good as believed. As evidence, the annual shareholder return was only
8.8% (Coca Cola offered to its shareholders a return of 32,8%). In addition the operating profit had
decreased yearly since its peak in 1994, suffering for a fall of 16% between 1994 and 1996.

Indeed, every day the yearly budget drove all the company s strategic and operating decisions. The

The Takers And The Leavers By Daniel Quinn
The story begins with Daniel Quinn writing about a day in his life, until he comes upon an absurd
advertisement in the personals section of the newspaper: TEACHER seeks pupil. Must have an earnest
desire to save the world. Apply in person. Suspicious, Quinn investigates this advertisement with
intentions of exposing fraud. Instead, he discovers Ishmael in Room 105 of a undistinguished office
building. Sitting calmly, Ishmael gently nibbled on a slender branch. Appalled, Quinn stumbled
towards the chair. Ishmael and Quinn gazed into each other s eyes, and much to his disgruntlement,
the glowing eyes spoke to him. Nodding his head to the unspoken question, Ishmael quietly said, I am
the teacher. Ishmael explains that Quinn is part of a culture, that results in him being taught certain
stories between the relationships of man, the world, and the Gods. These explanations will be made
clearer to the pupil by being assisted in recognizing why the stories are misleading. Ishmael s goal will
show the narrator that human history comes from two groups, the Takers and the Leavers. These
groups legislate two completely different stories about man, the world, and the Gods. Takers are the
humans who developed agriculture and civilization, who still dominate on Earth today. The Leavers,
in contradiction, are those who don t adopt agricultural practices and disregard the benefits of
civilization.
In lessons, Ishmael asks Quinn to explain other stories that the Takers imagine. The pupil

Ethos Pathos Logos Disadvantages
Ethos and pathos are rhetorical techniques Knopf uses to successfully deliver his argument. Knopf
effectively uses ethos to prove to the reader the credibility of his piece. One way Knopf goes about
doing this is he uses several creditable sources to back up his points. These sources include, Unites
States Department of Agriculture, Working Group s Farm Subsidies Database, and the New York
Times. By using a variety of different sources, Knopf is able to enhance his paper. Pathos is used when
Knopf mentions the extra seventy calories associated with whole milk and the disadvantages that
come from those extra calories. Knopf implores these extra calories are linked to heart disease and
obesity (Knopf). The majority of people reading this essay might be able to relate to that quote in one
way or another. The reader might know someone who is suffering from these diseases or they could
potentially have the diseases. Another example of pathos used would be when Knopf discusses the
effect cows have on the environment. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Discussing the benefits and disadvantages gives the reader background knowledge so they can see for
themselves the actual nutritional value of milk. In Knopf s essay, he compares skim milk to whole
milk. One cup of whole milk, according to the Web site, contains 70 more calories than a cup of skim
milk (Knopf). In todays society, many people are concerned with health and weight gain. Seventy
calories might seem like a large number to people who are trying to loose weight. By distinguishing
between the two milks, Knopf suggests milk can be both healthy and unhealthy. Knopf also discusses
how fat from whole milk is used to created other common dairy products. This fact might not be
known to the reader which can be an advantage because it could potentially cause the reader to think
about the dairy products they use and realize what they are made

Pat was very frustrated because she wanted to purchase a home but lacked the funds or credit to do so
even though Pat was expecting shortly to receive a one half million dollar final installment payment
for some land she sold several years earlier. Dan knew that Pat was very interested in purchasing a
home and approached Pat with a proposal to assist Pat in buying a home. Dan told Pat that he would
help Pat with the financing. After finding the home she wanted to buy for $250,000, Dan and Pat
orally agreed that Dan would purchase the home and when you come up with the money, I (Dan) will
sell it to you (Pat) for $250,000 plus a fair commission to be determined. Dan purchased the home
identified by Pat and the following week Pat moved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most contracts are valid despite the fact that they may be only oral. Dan was knowledgeable that Pat
wanted to buy a home, which she was not financially qualified to purchase. Consequently, he offered
to purchase the home and sell it to her, when she had the capital to do so. The statement of Don to Pat,
When you come up with the money, I will sell the home to you for $250,000, plus a fair commission
to be determined , and Pat s search and identification of a suitable home, and Dan s purchase supports
each intent to be bound. In this case, the next week, Pat moved into the house, begins living in it, and
made substantial improvements. The improvement consisted of installing new carpets, window
coverings, and a patio cover. The improvements, spanning a period of six (6) months, amounted to a
cost of $8,000. With respect to a contract, Dan might argue that there was not a contract, or that the
contract was outside the Statue of Frauds. However, any arguments to nullify the Statue of Frauds are
not likely to be successful. In most instances courts attempt to find evidence that this defense is not
supportable. Performance is more relevant in this case. A contract for the sale of real property will be
enforceable if the buyer has taken possession and has made permanent improvements upon it. Of
course, the extent of the improvements required for enforcement varies from jurisdiction

Child Prostitution And Domestic Violence
This is supposed to be a free country. We the people are supposed to have the right to make decisions
in our own individual lives that will benefit our future. But in this country the government puts so
much restraint on an individual when they want an abortion, maybe an individual wants to clone for
personal reasons, use contraceptive, or die under their own will. Those choices are an individual s own
morality and should not be judged when living in a free country. What about Child Prostitution or
Domestic Violence that are not individual choices? Why do those two phenomenon s seem to be
looked over and the court doesn t have a strong hand in developing a solution in such resilient issues?
Child Prostitution is one of the most overlooked injustice for children. These poor kids live in a
country where the courts are more worried about individual rights instead of the well being of children
who have lost their innocence. The trade of human beings, most commonly for the purpose of sexual
slavery or forced labor is known as Human Trafficking. This type of trade for sex is a very lucrative
industry, coming second to drug trafficking as the most profitable illegal industry in the world. When
most Americans hear the words sex trafficking, they think Thailand, Africa, and Eastern Europe. This
systematical belief that the United States does not endure such behavior is a communal afterthought
and considered incredulous to many citizens. Nevertheless, prostitution is a growing

How are fire scenes different than regular crime scenes for investigators? They are different than
regular crime scenes because fire scenes have a different procedure. Plus, most fires scenes don t
require a search warrant. This is because it can take a long time to get a search warrant but with fire
scenes it is crucial to get the evidence as soon as possible because causes of the fire, like petroleum,
can evaporate within days, or even hours of the fire. Also, they need to know how to prevent the fire
from starting again and possibly injuring fire fighters or other emergency responders.

Do you think search warrants should be required for fire scenes? Why or why not? Search warrants
are not required for fire scenes because the evidence at fire scene needs to be collected as soon as
possible because it is important to determine where a fire started and why in order to prevent the fire
from starting again and possibly injuring fire fighters or other emergency responders. This wouldn t be
possible if we had to wait more than a couple hours for a search warrant.
Do you think more countries should adopt the practice of putting color coded chips in explosive
materials? Why or why not? I absolutely agree with the adaption of putting color coded chips in
explosives. These chips allow forensic scientists to track down viable information about the explosive
that will help find the culprit responsible for the explosion.
Why do you think crime scenes involving homemade bombs have increased? I think homemade bomb
crime scenes are increasing because of the opportunities we now have. This includes the internet,
which tells us how to make the bomb, and stores that sell and/or produce the supplies for making the
bombs.
Why do you think the procedures are different from normal crime scenes to those involving fire and
explosions? What benefits or challenges are there because of these different procedures? I think the
procedures are different from normal crime scenes to those involving fire and explosions

  • 2. Essay on U.S. Military s Nuclear Technology U.S. Military s Nuclear Technology Albert Einstein once said, The splitting of the atom has changed everything save our mode of thinking and thus we drift toward unparalleled catastrophe .It is a very true statement.Since the discovery of nuclear technology there have been many different usages of this powerful, dangerous, and destructive energy source. The US is one of the most powerful military forces of the world.Part of that reason is because of its nuclear technology and capabilities. Also, the amount of nuclear weapons and equipment far out numbers those of most competing countries. On top of that the military s ease of nuclear weapons deployment to any target in the world also makes it a force to be reckoned with. The nuclear ... [3] Another nuclear technological advance in the US military is the nuclear aircraft carrier. The aircraft carrier is the heart of the US Navy.By adding nuclear technology to these massive giants of the sea, it only makes the Navy s heart beat stronger. The main power sources of a nuclear aircraft carrier are two GE pressurized water reactors, which power four turbines.[4]Like the nuclear powered submarine, nuclear reactors are the main source of energy for the carriers. Also, having a nuclear reactor as a main source of energy enables the carriers to sail all over the world for many years without having to constantly refuel.[5]Having nuclear power aircraft carriers in its arsenal allows the US to virtually have multiple floating bases anywhere in the world at one time. The nuclear reactor also allows the carrier to reach its destination sooner, possibly preventing an outbreak of conflict or seeing to a rapid conclusion of a conflict.[6] In addition to the nuclear technology applied to its naval vehicles, the military has also applied nuclear technology to its missiles.A nuclear weapon is defined as something that explodes using the power unleashed by splitting the ... • 3. Pros And Cons Of For-Profit Universities There are many individuals who believe, that for profit universities and colleges pose a significant threat to American higher education, and that they should be banned, I also agree with this outlook on for profit universities. According to Sheffield s article, For profit schools enable low income and racial minority students, including many who are non traditional, to gain practical, skills based training that better equips them for the marketplace relative to many traditional academic paths. For profit colleges and universities differ from non profit colleges and universities because they can be completed in a shorter amount of time. The training at these schools is typically focused on only vocational skills, i.e. business and office, technical education and within the trade industry. For profit colleges can be seen in many different forms, there are online schools such as the University of Phoenix, technical schools, culinary schools, and etc. For profit schools are profit seeking schools, the price is high and some may say that the cost of the tuition is not always going to the students. For profit universities also come with big opinions for and against them. For profit colleges tend to be looked down upon because of the price tag that comes along with them. For profit universities are incredibly expensive and tuition dollars typically do not go towards the students. These colleges survive on their marketing strategies, and approximately twenty five ... • 4. aldol reaction Essay Aldol In this preparative lab, an aldol (trans p anisalacetophenone) was produced from the reaction between p anisaldehyde and acetophenone with the presence sodium hydroxide. The reaction also showed the importance of an enolate and the role it played in the mechanism. Sodium hydroxide acts as a catalyst in this experiment and is chosen because of its basic conditions and pH. The acetophenone carries an alpha hydrogen that has a pKa between 18 and 20. This alpha hydrogen is acidic because of its location near the carbonyl on acetophenone. When the sodium hydroxide is added, it deprotonates the hydrogen and creates an enolate ion. This deprotonation creates a nucleophilic carbon that can attack an electrophilic carbon (like a parent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The initial product is the beta hydroxyketone, which rapidly undergoes dehydration and creates the final product, trans p anisalacetophenone. Technically, both the carbonyls cannot be mixed together with sodium hydroxide to get one product. We will get a dominant product of trans p anisalacetophenone. This reaction is an exception and we get away with it. P anisaldehyde and acetophenone together only make one enolate. This helps our exception, but there are still two carbonyls. With our weak base, we should be worried about acetophenone reacting with itself but we are not. This is due to steric hindrance, like I stated earlier. Aldehydes are better electrophilic carbons and therefore the ketone will react with the aldehyde faster than reacting with itself. It will quickly form the product trans p anisalacetophenone because it is the favored product. We do not have to use expensive LDA, we can use the weaker base and get away with it. The reaction took place in a conical vial and .2mL of each of the reactant samples were added to it along with some 95% ethanol. Two drops of NaOH were added shortly after and stirred at room temperature for fifteen minutes. The vial was cooled in and ice bath and crystallized. Vacuum filtration was performed to filter the crude product. The crude product was recrystallized using methanol and filtered again. We made one change to the procedure and instead of using .7mL of ethanol we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Boarding School Vs Boarding Schools Christmas, Hanukkah, spanish, Hindi, church ceremonies, and other cultural events and languages like these our well known and loved, but could you imagine going to a school where you were not aloud to speak and celebrate these holidays? Between 1879 1918 Carlisle Indian Industrial School kept native children, stripped them of their culture and made them into what they feel is the average white person. Yes some kids loved the school and benefits from the school, while other did not. Almost a century later, a boarding school opened on the other side of the country for foster youth. San Pasqual Academy opened in 2001, and has been the home for many foster youth over the years. SPA and CIIS have many things in common and many things that are different. The end goal for both schools is to help prepare their students for the outside world. SPA has many success stories when it comes to their students going to college and making sure their students have what they need to succeed. SPA provides independent living skills and helps students learn money management, cooking, cleaning and how to do chores around the house. They help set structure for the students so that they will be ready to live on their own. CIIS also made sure that their students would be ready for the outside world. They taught the native boys about industrial skills so that they will know how to work, and the females learned about home skills, such as baking, landry and other house chores. • 6. The Influence Of Love In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet Simply put, love is mysterious. As humans have evolved, it arguably remains one of the least understood concepts in existence. As Helen Fisher quoted Emily Dickinson, Romantic love is an obsession, it possesses you. You lose your sense of self. The successful neurologists studied the effects of the human love for years and concluded that love propels individuals to often follow their heart instead of the less spontaneous route that the mind would suggest. One example of the influence of love is reflected in the play, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. It narrates the tragic love story of two star crossed lovers that, despite the short period of time the couple was acquainted, engaged in love at first sight. As the plot progressed, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the presentation regarding the brain s peculiar patterns, Helen Fisher noted that no matter how much people want to ignore and suppress their complicated feelings, love is needed for existence. In her studies, she explained that she and her partner scanned specific areas of the brain to examine chemical levels. In short, her experiment observed categories of people in love, recently dumped, or remained in love for over 20 years. The participants that had chosen love were proven to show increased levels of dopamine and other hormones that corresponded to happiness and elation. Surprisingly, the same location of the brain held activity for the recently dumped participants, however, they felt extreme desperation. In other words, although they wanted to forget about their dissatisfaction in a ceased relationship, or erase the significant other from their memory, they were unable to do so because the brain only longed for them more due to the absence. Helen Fisher perfectly summarized this feeling by quoting, I remember what you said to me. I am thinking of your love for me. I am torn by your love for me. This contrast symbolizes the intensity of love, whether it be present or faded, the brain will stay fixed on the object of your affection. In addition, many people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Body Language Of A Silent Film Language developed tremendously through the use of silent films in the 1800s and early 1900s. A silent film is that which consists of only the picture, and no sound. This was an era of truly transformative filmmaking, forcing writers and producers to have to step out of a comfort zone in order to allow purely visual expressions to touch their audiences and convey their stories. This was achieved through a greater emphasis on facial expressions and body language. Firstly, one of the greatest movies in the silent era was that by Keaton, Sherlock Jr. This film encompasses all the core principles of telling a story through silence and overcoming the cinematic boundaries of its day. The key to achieving this is through the direct expressiveness of the body language of the actors alongside the plot and how Keaton specifically selected the scenes. The film begins with a love story between a wealthy girl (Kathryn McGuire) and a projectionist at a local movie theatre. His dream to become a detective is what drives the film. A memorable scene in the movie is that in the candy shop when Keaton goes to buy the chocolates for the girl. This was performed entirely in pantomime, allowing the audience to get in touch with the film, and comprehend his desperation to woo the girl. He shadows Crane, who is larger in size than he is, mimicking his body language and gestures. This was done using a tracking shot. Keaton s framing techniques were clear enough to tell the story, particularly when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Comparing Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing Essay Comparing Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing As illustrated by the two plays Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing, William Shakespeare was a true romantic. In each play, his characters suffer great hardship, but in the end, he delivers them to a life of eternal love. Characters plot against each other in each play. The relationships of the people in his plays are not always what they seem. Whether it be a tragedy or a comedy, Shakespeare encompasses three elements into his plays: love, intrigue, and identity. Love is the biggest theme in both Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing. In both plays, hate acts as a force that attempts to tear both lovers apart, but their love holds them together. In Romeo and Juliet, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The nurse makes it possible for Romeo and Juliet to be married by relaying information between the two. In Much Ado About Nothing, Beatrice and Benedick also have liaisons. Friends of Beatrice give the illusion that Benedick is madly in love with Beatrice and Benedick s friends do the same. Eventually, Benedick and Beatrice realize they are in love. They would have never gotten together if the liaisons had not intervened. Identity also plays a major role in both plays. In Romeo and Juliet, the lovers would never expect to fall in love because they have been raised to hate each other s families. Romeo never would have taken it upon himself to court someone in Juliet s family because in those two families it is considered forbidden. Beatrice and Benedick from Much Ado About Nothing insulted each other every chance they could. They considered their relationship as a friendly one, but until their friends set Beatrice and Benedick up, they never thought they would fall in love with each other. Had both couples taken their relationships at face value, they would never gotten together. Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing, two very different plays; however, they both contain love, intrigue and identity. Even with forces working against them, Romeo and Juliet and Claudio and Hero fell in love and were married. Characters were able to fall in love with the aid of the liaisons who helped them make sure things worked. Lovers would not have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Jackie Robinson Accomplishments Jackie Robinson was an important figure in the civil rights movement. His greatest accomplishment, however, was integrating baseball. He made many Americans excited about it because he was the first African American to ever play in Major League Baseball. Also, he did many things for the civil rights movement. The integration of baseball set off a reaction of different movements to desegregate places like schools, public facilities, and the army. Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. However, at an early age of one year old, his single mother moved Jackie and four other siblings to Pasadena, California. In Pasadena, Jackie and his family grew up in poverty. Even though his family was impoverished, they lived in a predominately white neighborhood where they faced lots of discrimination for the simple fact that they were black. • 12. The Day That Changed America Essay The Day That Changed America On September 11, 2001, America as we know it changed forever. We were attacked on our own soil for the first time since the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. Our country thought we were safe from terrorist attacks due to the oceans that separated us. We discovered on that horror filled day that we were extremely incorrect. Our own resources were used against us in those atrocious acts of terrorism. America was transformed from the numerous consequences that came from 9/11. Despite the attacks, the leaders and our nation came together for support and comfort. Let me grant your prayers (1231 Oedipus Rex). Oedipus did not see his own life for what it was or the mere mortal that he was. He was vain in that sense, having a lot of pride in who he was and what he had done for the city, after all he was the man who outsmarted the last plague on the city, and saved the city for the citizens. This unfortunately went to his head, and made him arrogant. Jacota was his wife and mother, her character has also been depicted as unwilling to see the truth. She knew in detail about the happenings on night her husband, King Laius was killed, but made it out that there were more than one stranger who murdered him. This remark threw Oedipus off, and he then began searching harder for more clues to this mystery. By this point in the story, Jacota had too much pride to admit what was happening. Later she hung herself so she did not have to face it anymore. In a fashion, Oedipus was a blessed with a good heart and noble intentions, but with a dark fate. He made an honest king, as a king of Thebes, and he wanted the best for his citizens, and he wanted to rid them of the plague that afflicted them. Humans have three cone cells that are extremely sensitive to Red, (620 700nm), Green (490 570nm) and Blue (450 495nm) wavelengths of light. Although these three cones are most sensitive to these wavelengths, they are still sensitive to the remaining wavelengths of visible light between 400 700nm. When a light with a wavelength of 600nm is transmitted through the retina, the Red and Green cones capture, sense and signal the brain that orange light is observed. However, if they were put in a similar situation where 600nm of light were to be observed, then their yellow cones would signal an observation to their brain different than that of humans. If an Infrared Light with a wavelength of 750 nm were to be observed by humans, they would not be able to because none of their cone cells are sensitive to this wavelength of light, in a similar manner that the blue cone cells weren t sensitive to the 600 nm wavelength of light. He loved to play games like Stare_Woofs, or really any hacking game. When he grew up... he was a hacker, a black hat one. He started out as just a script kiddy, in high school, changing his grades and charging other students to change theirs. Then he grew more and more intelligent. He learned how to hack in C++, then all forms of Java, then Lua, and eventually every programming language. By the time he was 25, he was a very skilled hacker, even attempted the white house once, almost made it when the daily system reboot threw em out. One day, he heard a knock on his apartment door while he was playing Stare_Woofs 3. At this point he was 31 years old. This is the CIA. Open up or we will arrest. Tucker wrote more about the ties to The Bible with the three men who come to the door after the murder. The mentioning of the possibility of the eye as a higher being caused me to pursue how the eye could be that of the one true God. Focusing on the ending of the story when the three officers I wanted to look at the influence of God in the earlier stages of the story with the evil eye. I needed to find where a single eye is used in other areas both in literature and in everyday use. There were many places to look but none would deal with God until I looked closer at both my Bible and at the symbolism of one eye. I remembered seeing a single eye on the Great Seal of the United States both on the eagle and on the capstone of the pyramid. This got me thinking as to when the seal was placed on the dollar bill. As stated at the Great Seal s website the seal was first placed on the one dollar bill in 1935 well after the publishing date of The Tell Tale Heart in 1850 (Kennedy 33). Beginning in 1650, Britain began to govern and restrict the colonists in America by compelling them to obey the Navigation Acts. Between 1650 and 1776, many more constraints were placed on the colonists and they finally united and protested against their native country. In 1989, the region s dependence on the Soviet Union effectively came to an end along with the communist hegemony in Eastern Europe. At the same time, Eastern Europeans finally discovered the opportunity to make a transition from centralized socialism to democratic and decentralized form of market economy that was largely modeled on the Western democracies. The following chapter examines the extent to which Western theoretical and institutional trends influenced Poland s economic reform plan of 1989. At the same time, it seeks to account for Poland s own local tradition of neoliberal thought. In so doing, it aims to dispel the oversimplified interpretation of the transnational exchange between Polish and American economists according to which the former had to learn from scratch while the former assumed the role of educators.
