Talladega College Case Study
Chapter 3 Description of the Intervention
The traditional and non traditional students go through different obstacles when deciding on what
degree courses they feel the is the most suitable for them. The traditional students at Talladega
College have the options of taking more courses on campus and to physically interact with their
teachers for quick and easy insight and feedback than the non traditional student. Traditional
students also have access to more degree programs and fewer chances of going through a rough
process when obtaining Master s degree after their undergraduate studies. The non traditional
students at Talladega College can apply for some but not all degrees. All non traditional students
are also required to take all classes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This project is to be utilized in the manner of recruitment for the upcoming years and to help
motivate the continuance of the current students who are looking to seek more from the institution
of Talladega College. This assignment will also use outside sources to relate to the issues at hand.
The sources that are used will help to give an outlook on what the problems consist of and how to
resolve them. To get the solutions that are needed for the increase of the non traditional student
satisfaction, the need for a better relationship between the faculty and the student must be addressed
as an objective for recruitment and continuance. The need for improvements with communication
between faculty and non traditional students can be a factor to having a decrease of student
satisfaction with the Fast Track Department. To get answers and statements from some non
traditional students, a survey What do you Think? , administered by Brittney St. Ann, sought to
find information about how students felt about their situations and experiences when dealing with

My Block Vs Tupac
Hip hop songs are an expression of the songwriter or the artist reality. In this essay I would like
to compare and show the contrast between two hip hop songs that relate in substance but are of
two different time periods. The first song is The Message by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious
Five (1982) and the other song is My Block by Tupac Shakur (1995). The Message was recorded by
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five on the Sugar Hill Record label. Released July 1,1982 as a
single was later featured on the group s first studio album titled The Message. The lyrics were
written and performed by Melle Mel and Ed Duke Bootee Fletcher with Grandmaster Flash as the
DJ. At that time in Melle Mel s life his lyrics subject matter reflected his belief in being socially
aware. The Message was one of the first song to later be known as what we today call conscious rap.

Released August 15,1995 on the soundtrack for Russel Simmons film The Show. The lyrics were
written and performed by Tupac, and featured Richie Rich. Tupac s subject matter reflected his
view of the hardships and hassles of the inner city, violence, racism, and other social issues.
Shakur s beliefs reflected in his songs were molded by his exposure to The Black Liberation
Army and The Panther Party thru family and close family friends. Both The Message and My
Block are songs of the artist consciousness and social awareness. These songs display the
hardships and hassles faced in the inner city streets and how it affected them. The Message focuses
on the struggles of the 80 s like poverty, unemployment, the effects of drug life, crime, and
violence. My Block, reflects social inequality, effects of gang life on the community, and a sense of
hopelessness in the

Barnett Newman s Influence On American Art
After World War II, Europe was left in a political mess. America, on the other hand, became a big
global power for the first time, and reaped the benefits in the form of economic growth. Parisian
artists found appeal in the post war American environment and moved to the USA. Following
WWII was the Cold War era, which left Americans extremely paranoid about threats of
communism. They felt it was time for something new and different, and chose to exercise their
freedom of expression by rebelling from European styles of painting, and creating their own.
Barnett Newman expressed this sentiment best when he stated, After the monstrosity of the war,
what do we do? What is there to paint? We have to start all over again. Abstract expressionism
was developed in New York, NY in the 1940s, following WWII. Most

He once commented that artists use their work to try to create the world in their own image.
Newman is best known for the zips, which are thin, vertical lines, in his paintings, which he
developed in the 1940s. He even created some sculptures which resemble three dimensional zips.
The names for his paintings were usually derived from his Jewish culture and religion. The
developed The Station of the Cross, a series of black and white paintings, from 1958 to 1966.
Some believe that it is a memorial for holocaust victims. Others think that it represents the
overall global feeling of gloom and despair of the time. Later in life, Newman worked with more
rich, vibrant colors, and shaped canvases. He also made small sculptures made of steel. Newman
is usually classified as an abstract expressionist because he worked in New York at the same time
as the other Abstract Expressionist painters. His style was so different from these other painters,
however, that some say his work was more like post painterly abstraction or

Napoleon Bonaparte
Napoleon Bonaparte or should I say the Son of the Revolution , I believe was both a preserver
and a destroyer of the French Revolution. In fact, In a sense, Napoleon brought the revolution to
an end in 1799, but he was also a child of the revolution (Spielvogel 544, 1). Napoleon had helped
the French peopleand the French government in various ways; nevertheless, Napoleon thought that
constantly the people owed him. I think that this is how he acted like a child. Napoleon became
commander of the French army in 1796 in Italy. Since he was now the commander he was reliable
to do what he had to for the French without the people owing him anything. Moreover, from the
time he became commander he had fought and won numerous wars beginning... Show more content

Europe at one time did have factories which were stocked with quite expensive items, but
because of other companies taking over them prices fell and people were left unemployed.
Europe had a high death rate because of lack of food and terrible living conditions. In Europe
there was a lot of poverty whereas in Great Britain there was not. Because of emigrants coming
from all over to Europe especially, people from Ireland, Europe s population began to grow. It was
then that Europe soon would be exposed to experience industrialization.
How did the Industrial Revolution affect the family, the role of women, and living conditions?
The Industrial Revolution affected families in countless different ways. For the bulk of people
who were in the working class lived in small houses. Considering that these houses were so
small, the people in them would be crammed together. There were 63 families where there were
at least five persons to a bed; and there were some in which even six were packed in one bed,
lying at the top and bottom children and adults (Spievogel 569, 1). The houses were unsanitary
and the people from the working class were more likely to come in contact with a disease. The
people of the working class were not as physically healthy looking because they did not eat and live
as well as the middle class or wealthy did. The working classes had very poor working conditions
and were not paid fairly. Not just the men worked, but women

Junior Volunteer Essay
I believe that I have the skills, experience, and knowledge necessary to make a good Junior
Volunteer. I have experience caring for various types of animals. I ve cared for my own pets,
including dogs, cats, fish, mice, and gerbils, and I ve also watched my friend s rats and my
neighbor s cats while they were on vacation. Since my dogs and cats are family pets, I assume
partial responsibility for them. This includes feeding, walking, and playing with them, and also
cleaning up after them (for example, cleaning litter boxes). I also have been responsible for giving
them medications in the past. In the case of my gerbils and former mouse, I have full
responsibility. This means that I must clean the cage, feed and water them, play with them, and do

Overall, I believe that my knowledge of caring for an assortment of different animals would be
useful to me as a JV. I would also love to be a Junior Volunteer with the SPCA. I love animals,
and I would also love the opportunity to help out my community. I want to do as much good in
the world as possible, and this seems like the best place to start as a 13 year old, considering my
interests and areas of expertise. I d also love to spend more time working with animals and
learning about their behaviors. Finally, this experience would help me with a future career in
veterinary medicine or even biology. As a Junior Volunteer, I would prefer to work with cats. I
have the most experience with them, having owned 4 different cats in my life. Working with
small animals would also be preferred. I have experience with gerbils, rats, and mice, and I d love
to learn more about all the different types of small animal. In addition, I ve noticed that cats and
dogs are generally more favored as pets, therefore, there will most likely be less volunteers with
experience in the small animal

To Kill A Mockingbird Character Analysis
Atticus when they finally saw him...He was real nice
Most people are, Scout, when you finally see them. (a life in Maycomb) To Kill a Mockingbird is
a story about shells distinctions of a person based on character, actions, circumstances, or race that
society uses to define him. A few characters in this novel, though, can see through these shells, into
the person beneath. Unfortunately, the rest of the world is quite different... Harper Lee wrote To
Kill a Mockingbird in the 1950s, a time of excessive prejudice and contempt in her home state of
Alabama. Through carving out her own childhood and the world around her, Lee wrote a novel
widely known as the 20th century s greatest work of literature.

Scout, and Jem, her brother, see through shells of many people. After a trial, Atticus tells Jem, If
you had been on that jury, son, and eleven other boys like you, Tom would be a free man. We do
see the outcome that happens when shells are ignored. At night, a group of rough woodmen
approach Atticus, ready to exert force on his defendant. Scout suddenly interjects the group, and
begins talking with a big gruff man, Mr. Cunningham of his work, and his son, Walter. The
gruffness of the group is immediately broken; all the men are shocked. Scout recalls, The men were
all looking at me, some had their mouths half open...Their attention amounted to fascination. A few
moments later, Mr. Cunningham bends down and says to Scout, I ll tell [Walter] you said hey,
little lady. The group is then dispersed, a brute, cold natured bunch shown to be calm, rational men.
Later on, we learn that this incident positively effects Tom Robinson s case. But this natural
perspective evident in children doesn t last. [JEM SHELL] Directly after praising Jem, Atticus tells
him, So far, nothing in life has interfered with your reasoning process...There s something in our
world that makes men lose their heads. So, what is this thing that pushes men to turn into
judgmental beings? We learn that it is a conflict between our natural idea of what men should do
and their actual actions. Jem asks Scout If there s just one kind of folks, why can t they

Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Research Paper
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a motile, rod shaped, gram negative organism. It is an opportunistic,
nosocomial pathogen. P. aeruginosa is reported to affect around 3700 to 4000 people per year.
Although P. aeruginosa is ubiquitous in the environment in things such as soil, water, and plants, it
is also commonly acquired in hospitals; especially in intensive care units. It rarely occurs in a
healthy person. The infection occurs in people who are already hospitalized or have a weak
immune system. An example includes, how a patient who is receiving chemotherapy for cancer,
has an increased risk of contracting the infection. It can be contracted through simply breathing it in
through breathing machines. If it affects the lungs, it will cause pneumonia. Pneumonia is
associated with difficulty of breathing.
P. aeruginosa may enter into the patient s bloodstream in a few ways. It starts when health workers
who are working with the patients do not wash their hands. It is then passed to the patients through
breathing machines, intravenous tubes, cuts or wounds. Once it has entered the body, is adheres to

When grown on blood agar, it is known to form round colonies with a fluorescent greenish color

shows a B hemolysis. P. aeruginosa is known to produce acid, but no gas when in glucose. It is not
an active fermenter of carbohydrates. The optimal growth is 37Лљ C. It is oxidative and non
fermentative. Although an aerobic atmosphere is necessary for optimal growth, it sometimes can
be grown anaerobically if nitrates are present in the medium. It is easily differentiated from other

What Is The Link Between Pornography And Sexual Exploitation
I have unwavering belief the presence of pornography and thus it s relation to the sexual
exploitation of human beings by far is one of the main sources of sex trafficking. Pornography alone
and thus it s depraved nature is utterly demeaning, it clearly exhibits heinous violence against
Women, that goes without saying. Personally, I have come to know the direct link between
pornographyand sexual exploitation that is indeed relevant to the issue by the reason of the 47
year old predator which inflicted sexual exploitation upon me followed by the continued
infringements of my human rights by way of vengefully driven stalking was as well as currently is
a self admitted porn watcher. The pornography this predator partakes in was exactly the type...

Again the same themes are brought to light on the truth of pornography and it s relation to sex
trafficking. One of the cornerstones of the entrapment into sex trafficking is a survivor, having
a history of domestic violence and or sexual violence acted upon them or witnessed so prior to
their own exploitation. It has been statistically proven many domestic abuse survivors and
sexual abuse survivors have felt the impact of pornography upon their lives in the form of the
abuser having either forced the survivors to watch porn and or engage in the degrading acts of
pornography in some fashion. Furthermore, once one has been ensnared by a trafficker or pimp
it is not unheard of for these predators to force the same upon their prey. Sometimes they will do
this to further season and thus a part of the process of breaking in their prey to the acts the
survivor will be forced, coerced, and or manipulated into engaging with clients in the life of
sexual exploitation. Now the street corners are indeed becoming an occurrence of the past with
current technology online pornography and what is known as webcam (or online sex hence
quintessentially what is pornography) is taking over the exploitation industry. It is under the
radar, it is difficult to detect, there are few laws, if any, laws which protect survivors trapped in
the seedy world of online pornography. So many of those snared by sexual exploitation be it
online, on a street corner, in a strip club, in a brothel, or even in a place of residence, whether they
are children or Women wherever they might be whoever they may be pornography is indeed the
supporter and facilitator of these

Canada s Residential Schools On Aboriginal Children
Aboriginal children cannot forget what happened to them in the past. In 1870s, above 150 000
aboriginal children took from their parents to attend Canada s Indian Residential Schools until
1970s (CBC News, 2010, p 49). The most goals for those schools learned aboriginal children the
culture of European people (CBC News, 2010, p 49). Unfortunately, aboriginal parents have not
choice even if they want to send their children to schools or not (CBC News, 2010, p 49).
According to CBC News if aboriginal children tried to breakout from schools and coming again
to their families, they will send back to their schools by Indian agents (2010, p 49). Moreover,
there are negative aspects of Canada s Residential Schools on aboriginal children, such as they
beaten and physically abused if they speak their native language, do not pay attention in class, or
there is no reason (CBC News, 2010, p 50). As a result, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
(TRC) began in 2009, to gather information about what happened to aboriginal children on Canada
s Indian Residential Schools and share their stories with all Canadians (CBC News,2010, p 46). The
TRC done enough for the survivors of the aboriginal children in Canada s Residential Schools:

Wild Fires In Texas

Wild Fires in Texas and their causes
On March 6,2017, the Panhandle of Texas caught on fire. The wildfire had burned over 500,000
acres of land. Most of this land includes livestock and feed for livestock. Several people had died
during this traumatic event, because they were trying to save their livestock and land Cortana
(2017). The wildfires burning in Texas can be seen from space, they are that huge Cortana (2017).
Cigarettes are one of the main cause of wildfires, the other is camp fires not being extinguished
properly, that is 90% of wildfires are caused by human mistakes Joyce (2017). The Texas
Panhandle is going through a drought, while everyone is praying for rain. Once a wildfire starts it is
very hard to control, even with the hard working fire fighters. There are many other helpful
individuals that track the signs of wildfires, such as the National Park Service.
The National Park Service communicates with surrounding areas to help prevent fires. They also
have specialists to investigate when a burn ban needs to be in effect, this is all depending on
certain reasons and moisture content in the area Angie (2006). Firefighters fight wildfires by

Staying Healthy During Flu Season
What is flu (influenza)?
It s simple. Flu (influenza) is caused by the influenza virus. It is an illness produced by RNA
viruses that infect the respiratory tract of people.
There are 3 types of influenza virus: A, B, and C. Most of the cases of flu are caused by virus A
and B.
Symptoms
Let s remember some typical flu symptoms in order to be aware.
These are sweats, fever, aches in muscles and joints, headache, sneezing, difficulty in breathing, lack
of energy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Virus loves to contaminate those areas.
Always, always wash your hands as many times as you can. Just think of your hands as the perfect
vehicle to transport the virus. But if you wash them they are destroyed.
As you can see, it is not difficult to stay healthy during flu season. It s just a matter of habits.
But if you get infected, don t worry, your immune system will take care of viruses that produce the
flu. Medications only aim to alleviate symptoms until the infection goes.
Summary
The flu is an illness produced by RNA viruses that infect the respiratory tract of humans and
animals.
There are 3 types of influenza virus: A, B, and C, but most of the times you ll find A and B in
action .
If you experience fever, aches in muscles and joints, headache, sneezing, difficulty in breathing,
nausea, and cough, you better get a Doctor to see you. You can be infected.

Discrimination In Discrimination For Women
It is 1996 and you walk into a local diner. You are seated and greeted by a waitress who takes
your order, and while you are waiting for your food, you look around and notice the same waitress
taking three other families order as well as other waitress and you are thinking that they are
overworking the women at this minimum wageestablishment. It is now current day 2017 and not
much has changed. Many women are getting taken advantage off at jobs by portraying them as sex
objects to help catch the attention of more customers. When women are put in position where their
only option to make more money is by their sexuality and image, they start to compete with their
other co workers. By doing so the upper management wins at getting their way and making more
money without having to do much but give women who are desperate to make money an
ultimatum. Our culture and the management class stereotype minimum wageservice job women as
sex objects on display as this causes competition among female workers for attention and power and
ultimately disempowers some women workers and represses their potential to come together in
solidarity.
Road map First I will show an example from the book Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, on
how women are getting taken advantage off by forcing them to perform sexuality. Then by
adding a supporting example from the article Que Viva La Minifalda! Secretaries, Miniskirts
and Daily Practices of Sexuality in the Public Sector in Lima by Lorraine Nencel. Next I will
talk about management and how it subliminally creates competition between workers, turning
women and men against each other by showing examples from the book and in the article
Cliques, Rumors, and Gossip by the Water Cooler: Female Bullying in the Workplace by
Crothers e.t. Al. Thirdly , I will talk about how because of the previous two, women feel
disempowered making them have no voice which does not allow them to come together and
unionize by showing an example from Work Uncertainty and the Promotion of Professional
Women: The Case of Law Firm Partnership . Finally I ll say what the opposing side would argue
against by showing an example from ..... And an example from ..... Then i ll show a possible
solution on how

Why Should We Study Turkey
Introduction
Why Study Turkey? Turkey is a particularly interesting country to study. The country dates back to
the beginnings of civilization and has been imprinted on by many historical conflicts. In its long
existence, it has been occupied by numerous empires, like the Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman
Empire, which aided in shaping the regions values and structure to what it is today. The crucial
changing point for the country was when it received its independence, or sovereignty, from
Russian, Italian, and French occupation. In 1923, led by Mustafa Kemal, the turkish people,
through the nationalist movement, gained independence by not allowing the remnants of the
Ottoman Empire after their defeat in World War I to let the Allies split up the Turkish speaking
lands. The influences that swept over the nation during the centuries of imperial rule or migration
of different peoples from oppressive rule makes the country diverse in culture. The country has also
seen a few of periods of military rule. Through these militarily ruled periods, some of the country s
most fundamental political traditions were adopted, such as adopting a proportional representative
system for elections or creating new constitutions. All these actions have shaped Turkey s
government and societal life in interesting ways. Turkey is a secular Republican Parliamentary
Democracy, where religion is separated from the government and power is divided between the
president, prime minister, and parliament.

women and slavery. Susan is an important historical figure who proves mankind cares about
others and takes notice of them. Susan chose to do good in the world by speaking out for equal
rights, and mankind has chosen to do good and listen to her. While some people may argue that
Susan B. Anthony should not have advocated for equality so strongly because, as a result, many
laws had to be changed, Anthony is one reason why American citizens have equal rights today.
Without Anthony, women would not be allowed to vote and would be viewed as ignoble
compared to men. Laws had to change in order for women and blacks to receive the rights they
deserve, and someone had to make a stand to amend them. Susan B. Anthony dedicated her life to
campaigning for equal rights, especially for women, and mankind should be grateful she

Taking a Look at Coordinating Compounds
Coordinating compounds, usually noted by their Indo Aryan name dvandva . Coordination
complexes were notable since the start of chemistry. The definition and border of the class of
coordinating compounds involves two issues: initially, what a compound is and how can we
distinguish coordinative compounds from alternative multiword expressions; second, the
understanding of what coordination is, and the way it s to be distinguished from alternative, non
symmetrical relations (e.g. subordination). The major breakthrough occurred once Alfred Werner
put forward in 1893 that Co(III) bears six ligands in an octahedral geometry. His theory permits
one to grasp the distinction between coordinated and ionic in a compound, for instance chloride
within the cobalt ammine chlorides and to clarify several of the earlier unexplainable isomers. In
1914, Werner resolved the first coordination complex, known as hexol, into optical isomers,
overthrowing the idea that solely carbon compounds may possess chirality.
Introduction
Coordination compound is a compound formed from a Lewis acid and a BrГёnsted base , a
Lewis acid being an electron pair acceptor and a BrГёnsted base a proton acceptor. Thus the
interaction of the Lewis acid metal centre as in Ni(ClO4)2 with the BrГёnsted base ammonia to
make a complex in line with the given equation: Ni(ClO4)2 + 6NH3 в†’ [Ni(NH3)6](ClO4)2
This equation provides an example of the formation of a complex. In writing the formulae

Social Darwinism Vs Unfit Essay
Lord of the Flies, by William Golding presents the theory of Social Darwinism where the
physically fit dominates over the unfit. Social Darwinism describes the physical strengths of a
person which allows them to receive power even with illogical ideas or reasoning. In this society,
appearance seems to affect a person s statue, although with Social Darwinism, an individual is
judged entirely by his/her physical characteristics. The individuals born with exceptional athletic
abilities are seen as fit, while the unfit are those who are incapable of heavy physical activities.
The display of the physically fit people acquiring a vast advantage over the unfit is explained in
the Social Darwinism article and the novel Lord of the Flies. The physical... Show more content on

The fit sees no reason to assist those who are vulnerable because that would only promote a gain
of the undesired reproduction. All the resources should go to the fittest and strongest in life to
enable those individuals to flourish beautifully. As mentioned in the article, the society favors
the fittest of all walks in life . The little ones were left alone on the island to feed themselves
because they were considered to be a burden to the tribe since they don t have the skills to fend
for themselves. The older boys did not feel the responsibilities of nurturing the little ones
unconsciously. This shows that the influence of Social Darwinism is inveterate. Those who are
in dreadful situations often have no intention of being there. However, Social Darwinism
implies those have the intention of being there, hence the naturalistic fallacy described by the
article. Take the little boys on the island for example, they did not intend to be incapable of
taking care of themselves because of two reasons. Firstly they were collateral damage of the war.
Secondly, the children are not at fault for their incapability of taking care of themselves since they
are children. The vast idea of the weak not deserving aid creates an unfair society. This idea favors
only the already fit which will generate a world filled with discrimination and

Essay on The Process of Adoption and the Need for Change
I am a 31 yr. old adoptee, I was adopted at birth it was prearranged prior to my birth, my sister
who is 3 yrs younger also a prearranged adoption at birth...actually we were picked up by our
adopted parents around six to nine weeks but my understanding is I was never with my birth
mother I was either in the hospital or at the agency until they came to get us ( Open Adoption).
Adoption is the process by which people take a child who was not born to them and raise them as
a member of their family (Fanshel). Adoption is sometimes used as an easy way to get out of a
pregnancy or raising a child. It is a very emotional process that people sometimes spend their whole

What makes adopting a kid that easy? Are people really sure they want to give their kid up for
adoption, or adopt a kid? The adoption process should be changed extremely, fitting the lives of the
people that need the adoption program the most and fitting the lives of the kids that need homes
and families.
Parents place their children up for adoption for many reasons. Some parents feel that they cannot
care for the child. A parent that is not married may not want to care for a child being a single
parent. Other couples have many reasons for wanting to adopt a child. Adoption gives couples who
have not given birth to children, an opportunity to raise a family (Fanshel).
Lisa, a small town cowgirl, was 15 and pregnant. It was far past the abortion state, so adoption
went through her mind very often, since she knew she couldn t handle the baby. She thought
about raising the baby, but with absolutely no support from her parents or family members.
Without the help, she knew she could not raise the baby, especially if she planned to complete
high school and then go on to college. To Lisa, adoption seemed like the most logical and
available option, but she was still scared in making her decision. In this situation, the child of the
mother would be better off, and be able to live a better life, rather than if it would have been raised
by a mother who could not possibly raise a baby. This is when adoption can be used, but for

The Book Of Proverbs In The Hebrew Bible
Introduction The Book of Proverbs, found in the Writings, the third division of the Hebrew
canon, is a unique book, entirely different from the rest of the Old Testament. There is no
mention of the Israelite forefathers, God s promises, or narrative of any event from Israelite
history. Similar to Job and Ecclesiastes within the genre of Wisdom literature, the Proverbs focus
on patterns of life to observe the acts of God , rather than declaring direct messages from him. The
purpose of Proverbs is to instruct the reader in attaining wisdom, the ultimate pursuit. The word
wisdom (hokmah in Hebrew) occurs thirty nine times and the adjective wise (hakam) forty seven
times throughout the 31 chapters. The scope of wisdom applied in the Book of Proverbsranges from
wealth to work to the words we speak, encompassing nearly every aspect of life.

on the part of later scribes to preserve Israelite traditional wisdom, which was in danger of being

To What Extent Is It Better To Grow Up In A Small Town
Some people believe it is better to grow up in a small town, and other people think it s better to
grow in a big city. I consider it better to grow in a big city, not only because there are more
people, but because you experience more people and different things that a small town probably
doesn t have. In a small town, everyone knows everyone else, and a neighborhood in a big cityis
bigger than that whole small town. There are more eating options in a big city.
Growing up in a big city is better because you aren t sharing the road with farm vehicles, which
could be a hazard. For someone to grow up in a big city, there aren t as many chemicals being

The Importance Of Veto Power In Congress
The veto power, which is the power of the president to turn down a bill passed by Congress,
affects what Congress might put into a bill. If Congress knows a president is going to veto a bill
due to certain statements or amendments, they will likely change the bill to accommodate the
president s wishes before hand to insure that the bill will not be vetoed. Congress makes
decisions in similar ways in regards to executive orders because executive orders are a way for
the president to bypass going though congress to instate a rule, so if they suspect the president will

Task Switching Essay
Running Head: Time Cost, Task Switching, Repeating Tasks
Task Switching Cost s Time
Brooklyn College City University of New York
Abstract
A replication of Task Switching Monsell 2003 experiment was done, which predicts a time cost
when switching tasks. 18 participants had to complete 100 randomized trials, switching between
task repeat and task switching trials. Reaction Times (RT) were recorded and reflected by
experimenters, to determine that there is a time cost involved when switching tasks as opposed to
repeating the same task.

When switching between tasks our brain goes between two different programs one for example for
counting and one for reading, therefore costing us time to switch between these two tasks. In this
experiment we tried to replicate the Monsell 2003 Task Switching experiment. 18 Participants
took a brief task switching test via program Revolution Maker . Each trial was randomly assigned.
The participants were presented with numbers one through nine and on each trial had to react to
the number, to identify either its odd or even or if the magnitude was either less than 5 or more

that occurs when asked to switch between tasks as opposed to repeating tasks.

Archetypes In The Book Thief

Lots of children of Communists and Jews are given up during World War II, mainly because it
would be safer to live away from Germany and other countries that have been invaded. In the novel,
The Book Thief, Liesel and Werner the children of communist parents are left by their own mother
and taken in by the Hubermann family. On the way to Munich, Germany, Liesel s brother dies. As a
result, the scared 8 year old is left with two strangers, a compassionate foster father and a

someone care for her. Soon after, this becomes a routine but one night is different Liesel s
nightmare is the same, she relieves the night of her brother s death. The girl who woke up in the
middle of the night wet her bed, her papa holds her until he too, notices the smell coming from

event symbolizes Hans letting Liesel grieve over her brother, instead of sitting into the empty
bed that is originally for Werner, he sits in a chair and watches over her. Since the young girl and
her foster father are extremely close, they both teach each other ways of rebelling. Hans is

street. The consistent desire to read leads her to rebel in ways that will eventually destroy her

promises he made in the moments of crisis. Such as, promising a widow a shelter for her child. As

Racial Disparities Of African Americans
Over the past few decades, there have been a series of African Americans killed by law
enforcement officers. Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, John Crawford III, Eric Garner and countless
others. The aftermath: the officers who murdered the unarmed men have either been acquitted or
there was no indictment. What happened in Ferguson is years, if not decades in the making.
African Americans are simply tired of having to bury friends and family and discovering the
officers, meant to protect the law and serve the people, are killing black lives and are almost
always found not guilty.
The racial disparities against African Americans lies is shameful, but not surprising. Racematters in
the United States. People of color do not receive the same benefits and equality as white people;
whether it be in education, the workplace and in the judicial system. The purpose of this paper is
to analyze the racial disparities to African Americans in what subsequently led to the Black lives
Matter movement. I have chosen a series of photos that capture historical events of protests and
movements including an analysis of one of my images.
Racial disparities and inequality dates all the way back to slavery: when whites abused, raped,
tortured and killed black people. Slavery transformed America into an economic power; the
exploitation of black people made the south the richest and most politically powerful region in the
country (ABS). Black people did not have any rights, instead they were forced

Consumerism and the effects of branding affect people s lives. Branding allows consumers to
easily identify which products are made by which companies. Yet, the brands create more of an
influence on consumer s lifestyles and in the end decide what kind of consumer that person is.
Branding creates a blurred divide in our society. Consumers who are ore likely to purchase the
branded products that are associated with better quality and higher prices are put into their own
category bucket versus the consumers who choose the cheaper priced products that are made
with less quality. When it comes to deciding who you are based off of the products and brands
that you associate yourself with, it creates a capital divide in our society. Consumers than
associate brands with personal feelings based upon whether or not they associate themselves with
those brands. Lives of consumers are heavily influenced. Their lives are worse off when they feel
the need to keep up with brands in order to feel as if they are portraying themselves in the best
light. In a way, this is similar to how all of branding began with livestock. Consumers want to
physically brand themselves with specific brands by wearing logos and identifying with a brand.

Engagement In Criminal Behavior Essay
Engagement in Criminal Behavior
Social control theory explains engagement in criminal behavior by the five informal social controls
which are, social and organizational ties, neighborhood attachment, happy with the police work in
the neighborhood and legal cynicism, if these norms are not followed then this is where deviant
and criminal behavior comes into play. If the area is not involved in any type of groups for
instance, religious groups, neighborhood watch program, crime prevention program etc, many
different programs they have available keep citizens, especially youths out of trouble because
neighbors are constantly keeping an eye out, and spreading wisdom to the children as well.

The way the community can prevent this behavior is by looking out for the neighbor to make sure
there is no unknown stranger walking around, having a neighborhood watch program so no
property is being destroyed. Neighbors can keep an eye out for one another s children, to make
sure they are not involved in any deviant behavior.
Thus, we conceptualize informal social control as the willingness of neighborhood residents to
actively engage in behaviors aimed at preventing criminal and deviant behavior in the local area,
with a particular emphasis on the deviant behavior of youth, (Silver and Miller, 2004, p.553).
Another key factor is social cohesion; this is the blocks capacity to be able to take away from
crime and deviance to a minimum. Neighbors are able to exercise informal social control over
youths due to social and organizational ties, neighborhood attachment, happy with the police work
in the neighborhood, and legal

The Mission Movie Analysis
The movie The Mission brought to light many of the issues that the developing world has faced in
the past and continues to face today. The indigenous people of Paraguay and Southern Brazil, the
Guarani, faced terrifying encounters with the powerful European colonizers during the period of
European colonialism. Many innocent people on both sides of the battle lost their lives. The
Jesuits were a Christian missionary group that brought the Good News of Jesus Christ, all the while
helping to defend the indigenous people by respecting their culture and human dignity, also referred
to as inculturation . The Jesuit presence paved the way for later ideas such as liberation theology
and the post colonial theory. The Commonweal article, What We Can and Cannot Fix: Rewatching
The Missionprompts viewers to reassess the film and notice other possible issues that were related
to the Jesuit s presence.
The Jesuits had a huge presence during the brutal attacks that occurred between the European
colonists and the Guarani. The Jesuits always sided with the indigenous people and worked to
protect their safety and human dignity. However, the main goal of the missionary enterprise as
stated by Fr. Gabriel, the leader of the Jesuits, was to make Christians out of these people. At first,
this statement appears to be a genuine act of kindness attempting o present the Jesuit Christian faith
to the Guarani to show them the love and hope that their God could provide to them. However, the

The Death Of Ivan And By Leo Tolstoy
In The Death of Ivan Ilych , Leo Tolstoy purposely focuses on Gerasim, the assistants Butler, to
establish a transformation in Ivan Ilych that makes him realize the true meaning of life. Gerasim is
used as an important tool through the events that lead up until Ivan s death. Through Gerasim, the
author conveys the themes of death, family, and propriety by emphasizing the impact that he
brings upon Ivan s life. Gerasim acts as a guide in the shift of Ivan s perception by helping Ivan
change his views and perspective towards death which no other person could have done if Gerasim
was removed from the novelette.
Ivan Ilych does not live his last years before death to his fullest potential and it is as if he is not
living at all. Ivan can not bring himself to accept death because he believes he does not deserve
to die and questions why this is happening to him. Ivan is not ready to face death so soon since
his life is going as planned. Ivan is lying to himself about him dying and tries to avoid the word
death by saying it, He went to his study, lay down, and once again was left alone with it. Face to
face with It, unable to do anything with It. Simply look at It and grow numb with horror
(Tolstoy 80). Ivan is referring to death as it because he can not fully grasp the idea that death is
really and seriously a lot closer than he expected. Instead of Ivan living each remaining years like
it is his last, he makes himself miserable and depressed by the thought of dying.

The Importance Of Environment On The Environment
The environment has a major influence in the personal health of a child and many of them are not
aware of how it affects them drastically. Various health conditions are either caused or aggravated
by environmental factors. One of the major health causing hazards is air pollution which can results
in asthma, cancer, and other severe respiratory conditions of which, many of these children are
naГЇve about how to protect themselves from these diseases. Students from the grades four through
sixth need to be educated about the health hazards resulting from air pollutionand learn practices at
school that will help lessen air pollutants for their overall health and for future generations as well.
Applications such as riding your bike and walking to school, and creating your own garden, will
help promote good health for children as it will help improve air quality for them.
Education
Educating students on environmental hazard, specifically air pollution, at a young age can help
prevent premature respiratory conditions and so, teachers must find creative ways for students to
understand how much air quality can affect them. To begin one of these activities, teachers will
provide background information about common issues that are affecting the environment both
globally and locally then provide an activity that will get students engaged as to understanding why
and how these issues came to be. Students in grades four through six should be able to understand
the characteristics of organisms and their environment, and so teachers will focus on the latter of
this topic. One of the lessons would be teaching what is environmentalism, by stating that,
everything that we do in our daily lives affects this interrelationship [ecology] as the earth is
always changing. Today people are changing the earth faster than any forces of nature. We have
created many problems like landfills, oil spills, and nuclear disasters (Norwood 1996). Once
understanding the facts, students will record a weeks worth of visible pollution by spreading a thin
layer of Vaseline on one side of several 3 by 5 index cards then placing the cards in a variety of
places where they will be undisturbed for one week. At the end of the week collect all the

Social Realism And The Works Of Literature
.
Chapter 1
Introduction
Literature has thousands threads which can weave the beautiful piece of art each time thread has its
own importance in the creative work. In the same way, there are different narratives techniques for
the narration in literature. Among those narrative techniques, Realism in literature, is an approach
that attempts to describe life without Idealization or Romantic subjectivity. Social realism also
known as Socio Realism, is an artistic movement, expressed which mainly depicts working class
activities. Social realism in the plays are the representative of real life, with all its difficulties. The
stories and people portrayed are every day characters, usually from working class background.
Typically, plays within the social realist canon are gritty, urban dramas about the struggle to survive
the daily grind.
An art movement, that refers to the work of writers, painters, and filmmakers is known as Social
Realism. The artists draw attention to the everyday conditions of the working classes and the poor,
and are critical of the social structures that maintain these poor conditions. While the movement s
artistic styles vary from nation to nation, it almost always uses a form of descriptive or critical
realism.

by its structures and decorations. Their typical forms was not tombs nor did they have much

On the porch there are six draped female figures, referred as caryatids, stand on a high parapet,
lightly bearing an Ionic entablature. The caryatids served as supporting columns, the porch was
built to conceal the beam needed to support the southwest corner. At the Erechtheum they assume
the sublime Classical sculptural style. This south porch counter balances the much larger and far
open and airy north porch. The entire temple sits on a slope, having one side higher than the other.
The maidens are lifted above the main grade of the temple while the north porch sits at a lower
point of the sloping hill. The North and West side of the temple sit about a whole level lower than

carried to the maximum at the north porch, focusing on the columns that support the temple.

Institute of Contemporary Art
Institute of Contemporary Art
How do you make a building for contemporary art that stays contemporary in the future without
stooping to a neutral language? And how do you attract a big public without compromising the
selfish, private, exclusive time we all want to have in a museum? These questions, put forward by
Elizabeth Diller of Diller Scofidio + Renfro, represent the urbanistic motivation supporting the
construction of Boston s Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA). In such a manner Boston s ICA
engages, not only with the urban citizen, but also the urban landscape in which the site is located.
The ICA conveys the idea of architecture as art in itself. As a presenter of art to the urban citizen
and because of its open design, the inside allows the citizens to not only appreciate the art within
the building but also see the art of the building s natural environment and setting.
Boston s ICA situated at Fan Pier in South Boston represents a shift from preconceived architectural
constructs to more innovative forms. The building s position in the middle of a currently
undeveloped urban landscape gives it a striking entity that engages the viewer in a way that
facilitates its various functions as a contemporary art museum. Furthermore its structure and
location alter the population s understanding of museum architecture as it has traditionally been
defined, that it is a shell that contains significant artistic work. A visual paradox becomes evident

John Bosco Research Paper
John Bosco came into this world on August 16, 1815 inside a cabin in Castelnuovo Don Bosco,
Italy. At the age of two, his father passed away. This meant that their mother, Margaret Bosco, had
to be a leader for John and his two brothers. Margaret, like most parents, taught them various valid
life lessons. One of them included teaching them about the fear of the Lord. Margaret was an
extremely caring mother with lots of character. By her example, she showed her sons lessons in
upright living. (New Advent)
At nine years old, John was called by the Master in a dream. Within that dream, John was fighting
a crowd of men who were loudly swearing. He tried to end the nonsense but it failed. Shortly after,

The Gibraltar Tunnel Treaty
it might be said:
Attributing the actions of Seguridad to Spain
Seguridad acting on behalf of the State of Spain, has not breached article four of the 2020 Gibraltar
Tunnel treaty by checking passports of passengers bound for Spain after the train has left the last
scheduled stop on the Moroccan side of the tunnel. However, article two of that treaty makes it
pertinently clear that the High Contracting Parties shall take the measures which are necessary to
ensure that the... operation of the Gibraltar Tunnel shall be consistent with their international
obligations .
The High Contracting Parties of the Gibraltar Tunnel treaty are Mauritania, Morocco, Spain,
Portugal and the UK. Of these five, only the United Kingdom has not ratified/acceded the 1951
Refugee Convention, whereby its current action status is declaration. Similarly, the new 2023
protocol to the 1951 Refugee Convention has been declined by the UK and ratified or acceded by
the remaining four High Contracting Parties of the Gibraltar Tunnel treaty.
Article seventeen of the new protocol extends the reach of refoulement such that denial of entry to
refugees aboard public or private transport, into a state by a state organ, will be considered an act of
expulsion regardless of where the denial takes place.
The actions of Seguridad can be attributed to the state of Spain as per article five of the Draft

For many people when hunting season comes it s all about getting their favorite hunting rifles or
bows ready for the hunting season and going out into nature for some deer hunting, an American
tradition that many hunters take enjoyment in and for many it s way of life for them and their
families, but for others deerhuntingmay seem like nothing but a slaughter that hunters take part in
for free meat and somehow find an enjoyment in the process, however these individuals do not

Fish and Wildlife). This makes deer hunting crucial for environmental conservation and
protection. While deer hunting may benefit the environment by providing environmental
agencies with funding for their programs it also serves as effective and carefully controlled
means to cull and maintain deer populations. What some may not realize is that deer can have a
very negative effect on the environment when they become over populated. Deer overpopulation
has heavy consequences for environment and species that dwell within the affected area.
According to Sharon Levy s A Plague of Deer the entire Eastern US has been over browsed for
many decades by Deer due to an uncontrolled deer population resulting in a decline of plant
diversity within the area (718) and this decline in plant life along with the high deer population has
had negative effects on the population and diversity of many creatures within these forests as well.
These include insects, mice, and canopy dwelling birds (Levy, 719), but the negative effects aren t
just limited to that of other species. Deer

Jimmy Collins s Role At Chick Fil A Essay
Jimmy Collins is a distinguished leader. Former president and chief operating officer of Chick

business and designed the floor plans for the Chick fil A stores. Mr. Collins describes his role at
Chick fil A as the chief follower of the founder. He is also the founder of creative followership.
He is driven by influencing people that are interested in advancing their careers and wants to
share his experiences and wisdom with them. Mr. collins was willing to share some of his
stories and experience with us. Not all of the stories were happy endings or the pretty picture we
sometimes try to portray to people. He stressed the importance of telling your own story. When
you tell your own story, you are able to do it with passion and emotion. You can feel it out for
those listening. I have always been somewhat afraid of telling people my whole story, because I
never know how they will react or treat me after. But, the reality is, my story has power, the
power to influence. My story is my own, and no one can change it. I was inspired by how
transparent Mr. Collins was with telling his story, he was inspiring and motivational. As
Christians, it is our job to witness and love others, our stories have power and they are one of the
easiest ways to relate to others and build God s kingdom. Mr. Collins shared the best career advice

Essay on Three Recomendations for the Democratic Republic...
Three Recommendations for the DRC
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has undergone two recent wars in 1998 and 1999 2008
with Ugandan rebels and Uganda itself. In the wake of these wars, an estimated 6 million people
lost their lives due to war induced causes. Horrific human rights abuses such as systematic rape and
murder have created a horrific humanitarian crisis in the DRC (The International Coalition for the
Responsibility to Protect website, n.d.). Currently, this violence is associated with conflict materials;
in the area of the DRC, this is not related just to diamonds, but it is related to this and the mining of
gold, copper, cobalt, gold, tantalum and tin. Neither the military nor the government appears to
have concern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The final recommendation for the DRC is a focus on governmental corruption. Many times the
different governmental organizations, municipalities and departments fail to follow the budget
passed by the national legislature, instead using the money for the politicians and bureaucrats own
purposes. By increasing transparency within these ministries, strengthening financial reporting and
cash management procedures, as well as auditing the results, the government could deal with the
high level of corruption and instead spend the money on the citizens and their needs as was
expected with the passage of the budgets. In doing so, the country s poorest citizens will have
access to social services designed to improve health, education and agriculture (Congo Kinshasa:
World Bank supports strong financial management in Democratic Republic of Congo, 2014). With
financial integrity the funds can be utilized for the populations for which they were intended, not to
line the pockets of the bureaucrats.
Conclusion
With reform the DRC s government can offer transparency and auditing tools to ensure that the
budgets that are passed are implemented and the monies go to the people for whom they were
intended. This can ensure access to resources such as access to services intended to improve health
outcomes, education and agriculture. Access to health care can

Plain Radiograph Once an AAA is detected, there are many imaging techniques used to confirm
the location and size. Initially an AAA may be detected during a lumbar or abdominal x ray done
for other reasons such as abdominal or back pain. Prior to the 1970s, an abdominal or lumbar x ray
was the way to monitor the growth of an aneurysm, although the purpose of a radiograph is to
show aortic calcifications (Ware McGee Marinelli, 2013). On the x ray, an aneurysm may be
present as a curved calcification along the vertebral column. Figure 2 illustrates an AP and lateral

Ultrasonography can measure the aortic diameter to within 0.3 0.4 cm (Ferri, 2015, p. 3). The
criteria for AAA diagnosis on the basis of measurement includes: the central widening of the
abdominal aorta to greater than 3 cm and an increase in aortic diameter to 1.5 times greater the
normal diameter (Revzin Pellerito, 2014, p.732). Sonograms for AAA are preferably performed
after 8 to 12 hours of fasting, thus reducing bowel gas which allows for better imaging (Revzin
Pellerito, 2014, p.726) Ultrasound examination of an AAA may be performed in a supine position
or a right and left lateral decubitus, or right and left posterior oblique positions. Sonogram images
are obtained in coronal and transverse planes from the level of the diaphragm to the level of the
common iliac bifurcation, while viewing both common iliac arteries. Measurements of the aortic
diameter should be recorded at the proximal, mid, and distal aorta, and at the proximal levels of
both common iliac arteries (Revzin Pellerito, 2014, p.726). Although ultrasonography has many
advantages for diagnosing, screening, and monitoring AAA, it does have a few limitations.
Ultrasound is very effective in determining the size of infrarenal aortic aneurysms, however it is not
reliable for imaging pararenal, juxtarenal, and suprarenal aneurysms. It is also not reliable for
imaging the common and internal

`` Peace, And Its Nobleness And Holiness And Honor
June Jordan, a Caribbean American poet and activist, once explained that poetry in and of itself
is a political act, because it involves telling the truth. During World War I, statesmen and
politicians propagated the war efforts, asking the men and boys to join the cause and potentially
sacrifice their lives for their country. Back in England, war was looked at in the most idealistic
light. War was glory. War was honor. War was noble. War was good, and it was right for man to
fight. Early in the war, some poets portrayed that rather romanticized version of war. Rupert
Brooke spoke about the war s cleansing abilities in his poem Peace and its nobleness and holiness
and honor in The Dead. But many poets chose to send another message to... Show more content on

The General s introductory cry of Good morning; good morning! upon meeting his troops
illustrates an amiable and positive view of war (1). Moving along the warfront, one soldier,
Harry, remarks to fellow soldier, Jack, that their general is a cheery old card (5). The
camaraderie, however, is short lived, and these two boys exhibit the human cost of war and of
the general s lack of regard for them, for he did for them both by his plan of attack (7). A week
later, the soldiers [the general] smiled at are most of em dead (3). The succinctness and simplicity
of the poem echoes the ease with which men died in war. So too, Wilfred Owen, renowned war
poet and contemporary and mentee of Siegfried Sassoon, replicates his mentor s view on the
prolific lose of life in war, asking in his poem, Anthem of Doomed Youth, What passing bells for
these who die as cattle? (1).
To dispel the propagated glory and honor associated with death in war, in Exposure, Wilfred Owen
explores death by the elements, a common and less glorious way men died in battle. Owen
famously stated, My subject is War, and the pity of War. One such pity that he depicts in his poetry
is the dismal death of soldiers by the cold and frost rather than the expected magnificent death of
soldiers in man to man combat. In Exposure, Owen utilizes the voice of soldiers dying from the
cold. Our brains ache, in the merciless iced east winds that knive us, the soldiers

Advantages Of Computer Invented Animation
Walt Disney animation
Hand drawn vs. Computerised
Walt Disney, a household name for kids and adults alike, the power house of kid s animation!
This was up till its last drawn animation of The Lion King in 1994, when other animators like
Pixar and DreamWorks came up with more modern computerised 3D films, such as Toy Story in
1995; Ants in 1998 and Shrek in 2001. All these animations had box office success and all were
computer generated.
While Disney was producing hand drawn animation like Hercules, Brother Bear and Fantasia they
were falling behind and losing vast amounts of money. The fact that not one of these movies made
it into the top of the charts fuelled rumours that they might close down the animation section.

Characterization of Women in The Yellow Wallpaper and Desiree s Baby
There was a time (not so long ago) when a man s superiority and authority wasn t a question, but an
accepted truth. In the two short stories, Desiree s Baby , and The Yellow Wallpaper , women are
portrayed as weak creatures of vanity with shallow or absent personalities, who are dependent on
men for their livelihood, and even their sanity. Without men, these women were absolutely helpless
and useless. Their very existence hinged on absolute and unquestioning submission...alone, a
woman is nothing.
The setting of both stories reinforces the notion of women s dependence on men. The late 1800 s

John s wife describes their summer retreat as a Colonial mansion, a hereditary estate, I would say a

dark, stifling circumstances surrounding a woman of the times. In fact, the narrator of The Yellow
Wallpaper eventually perceives the very room she is in as a prison. When speaking of the paper she
says, By moonlight it becomes bars (164) it is clear that she feels trapped.
Characterization also plays a major role in conveying the sexist and generally inferior manner in
which women were treated and perceived. The men are condescending and unemotional. At first,
Aubingy is described as passionately loving his Desiree... That was how the Aubingy s fell in
love, as if struck by a pistol shot (141). However, upon finding that his baby is not the Aryan bundle
of joy he d thought it to be, the racially charged remark that Aubigny makes to his distraught wife
is I want you to go (143). How can a love so powerful, which would have caused him to forget the
importance of a name, have deserted him so readily? Almost as quickly as it came, the love light
went out of his eyes, and was replaced with unparalleled intolerance.

The Theme Of Friendship In Chaim Potok s The Chosen
Without friends, life is dull and tiresome, dragging slowly on until it feels too heavy to reverse the
effect. In The Chosen, by Chaim Potok, at first, Danny is lonely and sad without anyone who he
can openly talk to because of his distant relationship with his father. When Reuven, the protagonist,
coincidentally meets him in a baseball game, they start as enemies but quickly become great
friends. With a friend to help him, Danny suddenly brightens up and can open up about his
difficulties. Also, Danny and Reuven learn to overlook their differences, and only discover all the
similarities between them. Later, they start to complete everything together and bond tightly
together. The friendshipbetween Reuven and Danny helps them overcome their distinctive struggles.
At the beginning of The Chosen, Reuven despises Danny and thinks of him as an evil boy, but
later realizes Danny s great qualities. One day, Reuven is playing a baseball game against Danny
s team, and before the game starts, Reuven s team talks about Danny s team as murderers . During
the game, Danny throws the ball and accidentally hits Reuven in the glasses, resulting in Reuven
furthering his hate for Danny. Afterwards, when Danny visits Reuven in the hospital to apologize,
he is driven away by Reuven s cruel comments. For example, Reuven angrily replies to Danny s

  • 2. Talladega College Case Study Chapter 3 Description of the Intervention The traditional and non traditional students go through different obstacles when deciding on what degree courses they feel the is the most suitable for them. The traditional students at Talladega College have the options of taking more courses on campus and to physically interact with their teachers for quick and easy insight and feedback than the non traditional student. Traditional students also have access to more degree programs and fewer chances of going through a rough process when obtaining Master s degree after their undergraduate studies. The non traditional students at Talladega College can apply for some but not all degrees. All non traditional students are also required to take all classes ... This project is to be utilized in the manner of recruitment for the upcoming years and to help motivate the continuance of the current students who are looking to seek more from the institution of Talladega College. This assignment will also use outside sources to relate to the issues at hand. The sources that are used will help to give an outlook on what the problems consist of and how to resolve them. To get the solutions that are needed for the increase of the non traditional student satisfaction, the need for a better relationship between the faculty and the student must be addressed as an objective for recruitment and continuance. The need for improvements with communication between faculty and non traditional students can be a factor to having a decrease of student satisfaction with the Fast Track Department. To get answers and statements from some non traditional students, a survey What do you Think? , administered by Brittney St. Ann, sought to find information about how students felt about their situations and experiences when dealing with the Fast Track ... • 3. My Block Vs Tupac Hip hop songs are an expression of the songwriter or the artist reality. In this essay I would like to compare and show the contrast between two hip hop songs that relate in substance but are of two different time periods. The first song is The Message by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (1982) and the other song is My Block by Tupac Shakur (1995). The Message was recorded by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five on the Sugar Hill Record label. Released July 1,1982 as a single was later featured on the group s first studio album titled The Message. The lyrics were written and performed by Melle Mel and Ed Duke Bootee Fletcher with Grandmaster Flash as the DJ. At that time in Melle Mel s life his lyrics subject matter reflected his belief in being socially aware. The Message was one of the first song to later be known as what we today call conscious rap. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Released August 15,1995 on the soundtrack for Russel Simmons film The Show. The lyrics were written and performed by Tupac, and featured Richie Rich. Tupac s subject matter reflected his view of the hardships and hassles of the inner city, violence, racism, and other social issues. Shakur s beliefs reflected in his songs were molded by his exposure to The Black Liberation Army and The Panther Party thru family and close family friends. Both The Message and My Block are songs of the artist consciousness and social awareness. These songs display the hardships and hassles faced in the inner city streets and how it affected them. The Message focuses on the struggles of the 80 s like poverty, unemployment, the effects of drug life, crime, and violence. My Block, reflects social inequality, effects of gang life on the community, and a sense of hopelessness in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Barnett Newman s Influence On American Art After World War II, Europe was left in a political mess. America, on the other hand, became a big global power for the first time, and reaped the benefits in the form of economic growth. Parisian artists found appeal in the post war American environment and moved to the USA. Following WWII was the Cold War era, which left Americans extremely paranoid about threats of communism. They felt it was time for something new and different, and chose to exercise their freedom of expression by rebelling from European styles of painting, and creating their own. Barnett Newman expressed this sentiment best when he stated, After the monstrosity of the war, what do we do? What is there to paint? We have to start all over again. Abstract expressionism was developed in New York, NY in the 1940s, following WWII. Most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He once commented that artists use their work to try to create the world in their own image. Newman is best known for the zips, which are thin, vertical lines, in his paintings, which he developed in the 1940s. He even created some sculptures which resemble three dimensional zips. The names for his paintings were usually derived from his Jewish culture and religion. The developed The Station of the Cross, a series of black and white paintings, from 1958 to 1966. Some believe that it is a memorial for holocaust victims. Others think that it represents the overall global feeling of gloom and despair of the time. Later in life, Newman worked with more rich, vibrant colors, and shaped canvases. He also made small sculptures made of steel. Newman is usually classified as an abstract expressionist because he worked in New York at the same time as the other Abstract Expressionist painters. His style was so different from these other painters, however, that some say his work was more like post painterly abstraction or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Napoleon Bonaparte Napoleon Bonaparte or should I say the Son of the Revolution , I believe was both a preserver and a destroyer of the French Revolution. In fact, In a sense, Napoleon brought the revolution to an end in 1799, but he was also a child of the revolution (Spielvogel 544, 1). Napoleon had helped the French peopleand the French government in various ways; nevertheless, Napoleon thought that constantly the people owed him. I think that this is how he acted like a child. Napoleon became commander of the French army in 1796 in Italy. Since he was now the commander he was reliable to do what he had to for the French without the people owing him anything. Moreover, from the time he became commander he had fought and won numerous wars beginning... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Europe at one time did have factories which were stocked with quite expensive items, but because of other companies taking over them prices fell and people were left unemployed. Europe had a high death rate because of lack of food and terrible living conditions. In Europe there was a lot of poverty whereas in Great Britain there was not. Because of emigrants coming from all over to Europe especially, people from Ireland, Europe s population began to grow. It was then that Europe soon would be exposed to experience industrialization. How did the Industrial Revolution affect the family, the role of women, and living conditions? The Industrial Revolution affected families in countless different ways. For the bulk of people who were in the working class lived in small houses. Considering that these houses were so small, the people in them would be crammed together. There were 63 families where there were at least five persons to a bed; and there were some in which even six were packed in one bed, lying at the top and bottom children and adults (Spievogel 569, 1). The houses were unsanitary and the people from the working class were more likely to come in contact with a disease. The people of the working class were not as physically healthy looking because they did not eat and live as well as the middle class or wealthy did. The working classes had very poor working conditions and were not paid fairly. Not just the men worked, but women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Junior Volunteer Essay I believe that I have the skills, experience, and knowledge necessary to make a good Junior Volunteer. I have experience caring for various types of animals. I ve cared for my own pets, including dogs, cats, fish, mice, and gerbils, and I ve also watched my friend s rats and my neighbor s cats while they were on vacation. Since my dogs and cats are family pets, I assume partial responsibility for them. This includes feeding, walking, and playing with them, and also cleaning up after them (for example, cleaning litter boxes). I also have been responsible for giving them medications in the past. In the case of my gerbils and former mouse, I have full responsibility. This means that I must clean the cage, feed and water them, play with them, and do all other tasks required to keep... I would also love to be a Junior Volunteer with the SPCA. I love animals, and I would also love the opportunity to help out my community. I want to do as much good in the world as possible, and this seems like the best place to start as a 13 year old, considering my interests and areas of expertise. I d also love to spend more time working with animals and learning about their behaviors. Finally, this experience would help me with a future career in veterinary medicine or even biology. As a Junior Volunteer, I would prefer to work with cats. I have the most experience with them, having owned 4 different cats in my life. Working with small animals would also be preferred. I have experience with gerbils, rats, and mice, and I d love to learn more about all the different types of small animal. In addition, I ve noticed that cats and dogs are generally more favored as pets, therefore, there will most likely be less volunteers with experience in the small animal ... • 7. To Kill A Mockingbird Character Analysis Atticus when they finally saw him...He was real nice Most people are, Scout, when you finally see them. (a life in Maycomb) To Kill a Mockingbird is a story about shells distinctions of a person based on character, actions, circumstances, or race that society uses to define him. A few characters in this novel, though, can see through these shells, into the person beneath. Unfortunately, the rest of the world is quite different... Harper Lee wrote To Kill a Mockingbird in the 1950s, a time of excessive prejudice and contempt in her home state of Alabama. Through carving out her own childhood and the world around her, Lee wrote a novel widely known as the 20th century s greatest work of literature. To Kill a Mockingbird focuses in the ... After a trial, Atticus tells Jem, If you had been on that jury, son, and eleven other boys like you, Tom would be a free man. We do see the outcome that happens when shells are ignored. At night, a group of rough woodmen approach Atticus, ready to exert force on his defendant. Scout suddenly interjects the group, and begins talking with a big gruff man, Mr. Cunningham of his work, and his son, Walter. The gruffness of the group is immediately broken; all the men are shocked. Scout recalls, The men were all looking at me, some had their mouths half open...Their attention amounted to fascination. A few moments later, Mr. Cunningham bends down and says to Scout, I ll tell [Walter] you said hey, little lady. The group is then dispersed, a brute, cold natured bunch shown to be calm, rational men. Later on, we learn that this incident positively effects Tom Robinson s case. But this natural perspective evident in children doesn t last. [JEM SHELL] Directly after praising Jem, Atticus tells him, So far, nothing in life has interfered with your reasoning process...There s something in our world that makes men lose their heads. So, what is this thing that pushes men to turn into judgmental beings? We learn that it is a conflict between our natural idea of what men should do and their actual actions. • 8. Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Research Paper Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a motile, rod shaped, gram negative organism. It is an opportunistic, nosocomial pathogen. P. aeruginosa is reported to affect around 3700 to 4000 people per year. Although P. aeruginosa is ubiquitous in the environment in things such as soil, water, and plants, it is also commonly acquired in hospitals; especially in intensive care units. It rarely occurs in a healthy person. The infection occurs in people who are already hospitalized or have a weak immune system. An example includes, how a patient who is receiving chemotherapy for cancer, has an increased risk of contracting the infection. It can be contracted through simply breathing it in through breathing machines. If it affects the lungs, it will cause pneumonia. Pneumonia is associated with difficulty of breathing. P. aeruginosa may enter into the patient s bloodstream in a few ways. It starts when health workers who are working with the patients do not wash their hands. It is then passed to the patients through breathing machines, intravenous tubes, cuts or wounds. Once it has entered the body, is adheres to tissue surfaces using its flagellum ... • 9. What Is The Link Between Pornography And Sexual Exploitation I have unwavering belief the presence of pornography and thus it s relation to the sexual exploitation of human beings by far is one of the main sources of sex trafficking. Pornography alone and thus it s depraved nature is utterly demeaning, it clearly exhibits heinous violence against Women, that goes without saying. Personally, I have come to know the direct link between pornographyand sexual exploitation that is indeed relevant to the issue by the reason of the 47 year old predator which inflicted sexual exploitation upon me followed by the continued infringements of my human rights by way of vengefully driven stalking was as well as currently is a self admitted porn watcher. The pornography this predator partakes in was exactly the type... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again the same themes are brought to light on the truth of pornography and it s relation to sex trafficking. One of the cornerstones of the entrapment into sex trafficking is a survivor, having a history of domestic violence and or sexual violence acted upon them or witnessed so prior to their own exploitation. It has been statistically proven many domestic abuse survivors and sexual abuse survivors have felt the impact of pornography upon their lives in the form of the abuser having either forced the survivors to watch porn and or engage in the degrading acts of pornography in some fashion. Furthermore, once one has been ensnared by a trafficker or pimp it is not unheard of for these predators to force the same upon their prey. Sometimes they will do this to further season and thus a part of the process of breaking in their prey to the acts the survivor will be forced, coerced, and or manipulated into engaging with clients in the life of sexual exploitation. Now the street corners are indeed becoming an occurrence of the past with current technology online pornography and what is known as webcam (or online sex hence quintessentially what is pornography) is taking over the exploitation industry. It is under the radar, it is difficult to detect, there are few laws, if any, laws which protect survivors trapped in the seedy world of online pornography. So many of those snared by sexual exploitation be it online, on a street corner, in a strip club, in a brothel, or even in a place of residence, whether they are children or Women wherever they might be whoever they may be pornography is indeed the supporter and facilitator of these ... • 10. Canada s Residential Schools On Aboriginal Children Aboriginal children cannot forget what happened to them in the past. In 1870s, above 150 000 aboriginal children took from their parents to attend Canada s Indian Residential Schools until 1970s (CBC News, 2010, p 49). The most goals for those schools learned aboriginal children the culture of European people (CBC News, 2010, p 49). Unfortunately, aboriginal parents have not choice even if they want to send their children to schools or not (CBC News, 2010, p 49). You are seated and greeted by a waitress who takes your order, and while you are waiting for your food, you look around and notice the same waitress taking three other families order as well as other waitress and you are thinking that they are overworking the women at this minimum wageestablishment. It is now current day 2017 and not much has changed. Many women are getting taken advantage off at jobs by portraying them as sex objects to help catch the attention of more customers. When women are put in position where their only option to make more money is by their sexuality and image, they start to compete with their other co workers. By doing so the upper management wins at getting their way and making more money without having to do much but give women who are desperate to make money an ultimatum. Our culture and the management class stereotype minimum wageservice job women as sex objects on display as this causes competition among female workers for attention and power and ultimately disempowers some women workers and represses their potential to come together in solidarity. Road map First I will show an example from the book Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, on how women are getting taken advantage off by forcing them to perform sexuality. Then by adding a supporting example from the article Que Viva La Minifalda! Secretaries, Miniskirts and Daily Practices of Sexuality in the Public Sector in Lima by Lorraine Nencel. Thirdly , I will talk about how because of the previous two, women feel disempowered making them have no voice which does not allow them to come together and unionize by showing an example from Work Uncertainty and the Promotion of Professional Women: The Case of Law Firm Partnership . The country dates back to the beginnings of civilization and has been imprinted on by many historical conflicts. In its long existence, it has been occupied by numerous empires, like the Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman Empire, which aided in shaping the regions values and structure to what it is today. The crucial changing point for the country was when it received its independence, or sovereignty, from Russian, Italian, and French occupation. In 1923, led by Mustafa Kemal, the turkish people, through the nationalist movement, gained independence by not allowing the remnants of the Ottoman Empire after their defeat in World War I to let the Allies split up the Turkish speaking lands. The influences that swept over the nation during the centuries of imperial rule or migration of different peoples from oppressive rule makes the country diverse in culture. The country has also seen a few of periods of military rule. Through these militarily ruled periods, some of the country s most fundamental political traditions were adopted, such as adopting a proportional representative system for elections or creating new constitutions. • 20. Taking a Look at Coordinating Compounds Coordinating compounds, usually noted by their Indo Aryan name dvandva . Coordination complexes were notable since the start of chemistry. The definition and border of the class of coordinating compounds involves two issues: initially, what a compound is and how can we distinguish coordinative compounds from alternative multiword expressions; second, the understanding of what coordination is, and the way it s to be distinguished from alternative, non symmetrical relations (e.g. subordination). The major breakthrough occurred once Alfred Werner put forward in 1893 that Co(III) bears six ligands in an octahedral geometry. His theory permits one to grasp the distinction between coordinated and ionic in a compound, for instance chloride within the cobalt ammine chlorides and to clarify several of the earlier unexplainable isomers. In 1914, Werner resolved the first coordination complex, known as hexol, into optical isomers, overthrowing the idea that solely carbon compounds may possess chirality. Introduction Coordination compound is a compound formed from a Lewis acid and a BrГёnsted base , a Lewis acid being an electron pair acceptor and a BrГёnsted base a proton acceptor. Thus the interaction of the Lewis acid metal centre as in Ni(ClO4)2 with the BrГёnsted base ammonia to make a complex in line with the given equation: Ni(ClO4)2 + 6NH3 в†’ [Ni(NH3)6](ClO4)2 This equation provides an example of the formation of a complex. Social Darwinism describes the physical strengths of a person which allows them to receive power even with illogical ideas or reasoning. In this society, appearance seems to affect a person s statue, although with Social Darwinism, an individual is judged entirely by his/her physical characteristics. The individuals born with exceptional athletic abilities are seen as fit, while the unfit are those who are incapable of heavy physical activities. The display of the physically fit people acquiring a vast advantage over the unfit is explained in the Social Darwinism article and the novel Lord of the Flies. The physical... The little ones were left alone on the island to feed themselves because they were considered to be a burden to the tribe since they don t have the skills to fend for themselves. The older boys did not feel the responsibilities of nurturing the little ones unconsciously. This shows that the influence of Social Darwinism is inveterate. Those who are in dreadful situations often have no intention of being there. However, Social Darwinism implies those have the intention of being there, hence the naturalistic fallacy described by the article. Take the little boys on the island for example, they did not intend to be incapable of taking care of themselves because of two reasons. Firstly they were collateral damage of the war. Secondly, the children are not at fault for their incapability of taking care of themselves since they are children. The vast idea of the weak not deserving aid creates an unfair society. People of color do not receive the same benefits and equality as white people; whether it be in education, the workplace and in the judicial system. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the racial disparities to African Americans in what subsequently led to the Black lives Matter movement. I have chosen a series of photos that capture historical events of protests and movements including an analysis of one of my images. Racial disparities and inequality dates all the way back to slavery: when whites abused, raped, tortured and killed black people. Slavery transformed America into an economic power; the exploitation of black people made the south the richest and most politically powerful region in the country (ABS). Engagement In Criminal Behavior Essay Engagement in Criminal Behavior Social control theory explains engagement in criminal behavior by the five informal social controls which are, social and organizational ties, neighborhood attachment, happy with the police work in the neighborhood and legal cynicism, if these norms are not followed then this is where deviant and criminal behavior comes into play. If the area is not involved in any type of groups for instance, religious groups, neighborhood watch program, crime prevention program etc, many different programs they have available keep citizens, especially youths out of trouble because neighbors are constantly keeping an eye out, and spreading wisdom to the children as well. Thus, we conceptualize informal social control as the willingness of neighborhood residents to actively engage in behaviors aimed at preventing criminal and deviant behavior in the local area, with a particular emphasis on the deviant behavior of youth, (Silver and Miller, 2004, p.553). Another key factor is social cohesion; this is the blocks capacity to be able to take away from crime and deviance to a minimum. The Jesuits were a Christian missionary group that brought the Good News of Jesus Christ, all the while helping to defend the indigenous people by respecting their culture and human dignity, also referred to as inculturation . • 41. The Importance Of Environment On The Environment The environment has a major influence in the personal health of a child and many of them are not aware of how it affects them drastically. Various health conditions are either caused or aggravated by environmental factors. One of the major health causing hazards is air pollution which can results in asthma, cancer, and other severe respiratory conditions of which, many of these children are naГЇve about how to protect themselves from these diseases. Students from the grades four through sixth need to be educated about the health hazards resulting from air pollutionand learn practices at school that will help lessen air pollutants for their overall health and for future generations as well. Applications such as riding your bike and walking to school, and creating your own garden, will help promote good health for children as it will help improve air quality for them. Education Educating students on environmental hazard, specifically air pollution, at a young age can help prevent premature respiratory conditions and so, teachers must find creative ways for students to understand how much air quality can affect them. To begin one of these activities, teachers will provide background information about common issues that are affecting the environment both globally and locally then provide an activity that will get students engaged as to understanding why and how these issues came to be. Students in grades four through six should be able to understand the characteristics of organisms and their environment, and so teachers will focus on the latter of this topic. One of the lessons would be teaching what is environmentalism, by stating that, everything that we do in our daily lives affects this interrelationship [ecology] as the earth is always changing. Today people are changing the earth faster than any forces of nature. We have created many problems like landfills, oil spills, and nuclear disasters (Norwood 1996). These questions, put forward by Elizabeth Diller of Diller Scofidio + Renfro, represent the urbanistic motivation supporting the construction of Boston s Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA). In such a manner Boston s ICA engages, not only with the urban citizen, but also the urban landscape in which the site is located. The ICA conveys the idea of architecture as art in itself. As a presenter of art to the urban citizen and because of its open design, the inside allows the citizens to not only appreciate the art within the building but also see the art of the building s natural environment and setting.
