Danielle Savoie, recently appointed Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Cirque du Soleil, was
delighted. She had just met with the firm s Executive Committee to present the very first information
technology (IT) strategic plan in the history of Cirque. The plan presented a coherent and organized
vision of IT use at Cirque. The Executive Committee had reacted very positively to her
recommendations, although the members of the committee were not accustomed to discussing issues
as technical as IT. At Cirque du Soleil, IT was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Audiences and critics alike were immediately conquered. Success was instantaneous. Cirque du
Soleil succeeded in redefining the circus experience for the audience by capturing the imagination of
the public. The show was presented in 10 cities in Quebec. In 1984, 73 people worked for Cirque du
Soleil. This first show established the foundations and the concept. During the years that followed,
Cirque grew very quickly. By 2000, Cirque du Soleil had evolved from its modest beginnings to
become a complex organization with operations in several cities and shows on the road around the
world. In 2000, Cirque du Soleil had three permanent or resident shows: Mystère, which had been
presented at Treasure Island in Las Vegas since 1993, Ô, presented at the Bellagio in Las Vegas since
October 1998, and La Nouba, presented at the Walt
Disney World Resort since December 1998. At the time, Cirque also had five touring shows, which

Insanity Defense Pros And Cons
Insane Insanity Plea The option to utilize the insanity defense in court should be supported because it
is needed to acquit those individuals who had no control over their actions due to a physical ailment,
to put a mentally ill patient in with the general prison population would be unconstitutional, and those
who are mentally insane need special services for rehabilitation. The insanity defense should be
available to those who had no control of their actions due to a physical illness. D wounded a female
neighbor friend whilst sleepwalking. They had been watching videos and she fell asleep on the sofa,
he hit her with a bottle and a video recorder and grabbed her round the throat. He was sleepwalking at

The criminally insane need a special form of rehabilitation and should be granted to right to fight for
this sentence. The insanity defense serves a definitive purpose in our legal system dismissing those
who should truly be found innocent. The option to utilize the insanity defense in court should not be
supported because it is not always effective for those who truly need it, it is a Catch 22 and a mental
illness does not dismiss the fact that a crime has taken place. The insanity plea should be abolished
because it does not help those who need it, the bar at which you qualify for insanity is near
unreachable, which renders the plea useless. Psychiatrists who examined Andrea Yates testified
repeatedly she was mentally ill and suffered from severe postpartum depression but that was not
enough to brand her legally insane (Seligman). This woman was later retried and did succeed in using
the insanity defense. The fact that she was not allowed to use it the first time shows how hard it is to
succeed using this defense. The first time she tried to use the defense, she clearly qualified but was
dismissed due to other factors; if the plea is not for the insane then who is it for? The insanity plea
should be reexamined because it is a Catch 22. Owen Atlee Walker Jr. of Newport News, who on Feb.

Religion And Its Impact On Society
Even before there were millions of copies of bibles in circulation religion has been a part of society
that has always been there. But is this idea of rules and regulations enforced by a belief system really
helpful to society? In a world without religion would there be less wars, hatred, and discrimination?
With so many people involved or affiliated with religion it is important to explore deeper into the
negative impact that religion has on society and try to make the world a better place with information
that will help all. At a personal level religion fulfills the role of accounting for a lack of knowledge
and offering hope in the face of difficulties while also offering a sense of belonging. To identify with a
religious ideology, and call it the only truth and way, leads to the tremendously negative consequences
of hatred, racism, and all kinds of violence. These consequences of a world in disarray due to religion
far outweigh the small personal fulfillments. As Steven Weinberg, an American physicist and Nobel
laureate states, With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil
people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion. Although religion
claims to lead people towards truth, light, and happiness, in reality it actually leads them in the
opposite direction.
The most popular argument against religion in society is the fact that religion leads to war and
violence which then in turn results in poverty,

Aa Meeting Reflection
Attending an AA meeting was intimidating at first, but it was one of the most moving and enlightening
experiences of my life. I attended a meeting called the Nooners Group at the Serenity Club in
Alexandria. The group had six men and one woman in attendance. The members were mostly white
and were about 40 years or older. The group seemed to be in a middle or lower socio economic level.
The meeting started with several short readings. I was invited to read the AA preamble. Then, the
group leader suggested reading a story from the big blue book. The story focused on a woman s denial
of her addiction and eventual acceptance of her alcoholism. After the reading, almost every person
spoke about their own addiction and how it related to the story of the woman. After the time of
sharing, the group held hands, said the AA chants, and recited the Lord s Prayer. Afterwards, some
group members lingered to interact and chat. I was so moved by the power of the meeting. At times, it
felt very serious and emotional, but there were moments of levity, where the group would laugh or nod
in agreement. Overall, the meeting was emotional, inspirational, and healing.
Several themes were prevalent throughout the meeting: control, fear, life and death, and gratitude.
Many people spoke about the pain of not being able to control their desire for alcohol, while others
focused the cravings control over their lives. Other members spoke about letting ... Show more content

The members found tremendous strength in the group. I could feel the importance of the community,
the no judgment zone, and sharing their story with peers. The meeting promoted empathy and allowed
people to feel supported and understood in their struggle with alcoholism. More importantly, the
meetings show them that they are not alone. They could talk about their actions under the influence to
others that truly understood

The Issue Of Mineral Rights Essay
As a first time homebuyer in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I thought I had very carefully prepared
myself for all that the process would involve, including gathering income and financial
documentation, qualifying for a mortgage, arranging for a thorough inspection, evaluating needs and
desires from a home and finding a reputable agent to represent my interests. One area I never
considered, however, was the issue of mineral rights. To be perfectly honest, although I d heard the
term, I d never given consideration to what it actually meant. But that all changed in the middle of my
home buying process and I d like to share with you the knowledge I ve gained through extensive
research I completed to protect my own rights and the rights I would possess as a soon to be
homeowner. According to property law, two different forms of rights exist in any real property:
surface rights and mineral rights. Surface rights refer to any structure erected above the surface or sub
surface structures that do not exceed a certain depth, as well as rights to use all surface property
surrounding structures in accordance with zoning ordinances. Mineral rights refer to mineral
substances below a certain depth and the way in which they are preserved, explored or extracted.
These mineral substances can include natural gas, oil, or any other substance in common use today
that can be mined or otherwise extracted from below the surface. Local laws set the depth below
which surface rights terminate

Is Your Yoga Practice A Vehicle For Mental Health And...
Is your yoga practice a vehicle for mental health and self actualization or are you content with just
doing the physical practice?
Yoga was originally intended to be a practice to facilitate self actualization, meaning to realize who
you are and being comfortable being you. More recently in the western yoga world, there has been a
separation between physical development and spiritual development. Social media has defined yoga as
cool physical postures. Yet, do not be fooled into believing that you will be self actualized by only
practicing asana. Asana is only one of the eight limbs, and a healthy body means nothing without a
healthy mind.
The definition of mental health according to the World Health Organization ( WHO ) is: ... Show more

There are many benefits from doing the physical practice, including improved overall physical fitness,
stress relief, and a reduction in anxiety and depression. But how can your yoga practice be an
instrument for self actualization?
First of all, motivation is important. You have to want more. Without the desire to grow and learn, self
actualization will not occur. That motivation often comes from being in a place where nothing else is
working. A time when you have tried everything else, and still you do not feel fulfilled.
The Trifecta Approach
There is a combination that will help you on your path towards fulfillment through self actualization. I
call it the trifecta approach. Here are the three key methods that work together to facilitate mental
health and a life fully lived.
1. Yoga Practice: Find the right yoga teacher who supports your individual development beyond the
physical asana.
2. Meditate: Develop a solid sitting practice. This more subtle practice will strengthen your ability to
observe all mental activity.
3. Psychotherapy: Find a good therapist who will see you, hear you, support you, and guide you
through your own transformation, and who will encourage you to keep at it.
This may seem like a complex combination, but here is a case that demonstrates the trifecta s
approach in action.

Questions On Online Internet Marketing Essay
a. Rivalry (Among Competing Sellers)
CyberGold, NetCentives, and MyPoints are the three main online Internet marketing firm. All the
competitors offer similar services and products. Competition is based on a non price dimension like
marketing, brand, and search technology. Competitive rivalry is high as the cost of switching firm is
low. Because this is relatively new business, there are growth opportunities for economic of scale in
advertising. (Gamble Thompson, 2013)
b. Threat of New Entrance
Online Internet marketing has a low barrier to entry. Since the barrier is low, new entries should be
able to offer more incentives, lower marketing cost, and innovative new ideas to market the advertiser
products and service. The threat of new entrants is high because online advertising is relative at its
early stages and few online Internet marketing firm has set itself apart from its competitor. (Gamble
Thompson, 2013)
c. Threat of Substitute Products
The threat of substitute in the industry is weak. In term of mass marketing, the Internet can reach far
more people in every corner of the world. The market is still growing as more users are coming online
and new and improve technologies are improving the median we utilize to access the net. Online
advertising allows marketers to tailor the company s product and services to a select market vice mass
marketing. It provides benefits, cost saving, and flexibility that you can t get from television, radio, or
newspaper. (Gamble

The Boy Who Cried Wolf By B. G. Hennessy
Don t Lie to your Parents It s bad enough when you lie to your parents but its worse when you lie to
them about not going to church. I learned that you should not lie to your parents because no one
believes a liar. No one likes a liar because you never know if they are telling the truth. There is a story
about this called The Boy Who Cried Wolf by B.G. Hennessy where we learn that liars are never
trusted. After what happened a few weeks ago my parents won t trust me to go out with friends again.
It was an ordinary weekend. I woke up Saturday morning and went to work. After work I could go
home and do anything I felt like doing. Around 8 my friend Carlos texted me and asked if I wanted to
come over and spend the night. So at 9 when my dad and sister got home from shopping I went over

Semiautomatic Firearms
A Gun Is A Gun Is A Gun Right?
You have seen the articles, the top 20 firearms all Preppers need, or the five best self defense
handguns, or here is a list of the best rifles or shotguns for home defense and the lists go on.
Confusing, and you probably did not learn anything, and you may feel somewhat slighted, because
you do not have any of the guns that the so called expert was stating emphatically that you need.
It is not the firearm, but the person using it, and then the reason that person wants a firearm that is the
deciding factor. Let s face it; any firearm that can put a round downrange is better than throwing a
lamp at someone. Do you know how to decide?
From a purely mechanical and technological standpoint, today s semiautomatic pistols are superior.
Not too long ago if someone mentioned handguns you automatically thought revolver. The ever
steadfast revolver, while they differ somewhat, the mechanics have remained the same throughout the

There is a reason however, why most militaries around the world carry semiautomatic pistols and not
revolvers and many in law enforcement carry them as well.
Keep in mind some semiautomatics are Double Action (DA) and Single Action (SA). Once a round is
chambered from the slide action, the hammer is back. From this point you can de cock it to make it
double action or leave the hammer back for single action. After the first round subsequent shots are of
course single action, because the slide is forced back to eject a shell cocking the firearm each time.
The revolver is not going anywhere, because people grew up with them, it may have been for many
their first handgun that was handed down. They do have advantages over semiautomatics and there are
disadvantages as well. You do not have to choose, because you can have both as long as you become
proficient in their use. You do have to consider who will be using the weapon and who may have

Challenges Of Bilingual Education
Bilingual is a person who can use two languages in his daily life, and they can basically speak a
foreign language and a native language while listening, speaking, reading and writing. Today, many
developing countries are trying bilingual education as a dominant form of education because through
experimentation and time accumulation, bilingual education is a great advantage for all students
(Thomas, W Collier, V. 1997). Bilingual education has a high demand among schools, teachers,
courses, textbooks, and students. For example, in China, there are many ethnic groups, which are
scattered in different regions. The government not only wants each group to retain its original
language, but also hopes that they can communicate with each other in Mandarin. The Chinese
government has introduced bilingual education into the educational system of ethnic minorities.
Although developing countries face several challenges in integrating bilingual education into the
regular teaching of school, there are several strategies that might help.
Before discussing the challenges of bilingual education in developing countries, there are three
distinct characteristics of Bilingual Education. The first characteristic is language goals. It means
bilingual education that aims to promote bilingual or multilingual competence by using both or all
languages as media of instruction for significant portions of the academic curriculum (Genesee, F.
2005). The next characteristic is teaching methods.

The Meaning Of The Lord Supper
The meaning of the Lord s Supper, in the Greek term from the Old and New Testament. There will be

Philos, Eros, Agape Love in Religion Essay
Philia, eros, and agape are three different Greek terms for the word. These three terms explain the
different types of love a human being can acquire. Philia is a love of friendship, which is grounded in
commonality. However, eros is a kind of love that seeks something from the other person or thing.
Lastly, agape is the love that wills the good of the other and is completely self giving. The meanings
of these Greek terminologies, philia, eros, and agape, allow us to better understand and discuss our
relationship with God and human fulfillment. In order to find human fulfillment, one must find God of
Jesus Christ as well. Erotic loving is our desire for this fulfillment, which can be seen through eros.
Human nature can be simply defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sartre attested that the human being is a useless passion due to our insatiable desires. Markedly,
human beings desire to retain the infinite and that need is simply impossible. For the search for the
unlimited is tiresome and unappeasable. Conversely, there is an alternate way of looking at eros. In
order to have hope, God has to appear to human life as not a receding horizon but an absolute savior.
Human beings long for the truth and due to the constraints of science and history, Jesus is seen in an
alternate way because he is no longer limited by space or time. In this case, Karl Rahner and Saint
Augustine both agree that God always initiates the relationship with human life. Namely, they asserted
that we are constantly drawn to God and God is not drawn to us. Because of this, we have the option
of forming a better relationship with God. Rahner said that God dispenses his grace to all human
beings of every religion in and God is continually accepting. Chiefly, it is not God s choice to accept
or deny us, for that is not his matter . Anthony De Mello describes another explanation of human
fulfillment to us. He explains to us that in order to have human fulfillment, we must detach ourselves
from our worldly attachments. As human beings, we allow ourselves to believe that we cannot be
happy without a certain thing or person in our life. Thus, that is not

Why Did Salt Grow In River Essay
The Effect of Salt on Radish Seed Growth along the Nelson River in Ensi county, Indiana.
Autumn Acord
Radish farms along the Nelson river had a recent lack of growth of their radishes. A landfill and a salt
storage facility had recently opened along the river near the farms. Samples from the river were taken
and used to grow radishes to see what caused the lack of growth. The salt storage facility had leaked
into the river, causing samples B and D not grow.

not growing. Three farmers use the Nelson River and the same methods they used the previous year to
produce their crops. Recently added in their area was a salt storage ... Show more content on

It was in the middle of Nelson River between irrigation pumps. There was an abundance of salt and it
was not able to dissolve or become diluted enough for the plants to grow. This helps prove that the salt
is the reason why the radish seeds were not growing on this farm.
Each seed with Site E water grew on average 7.625 centimeters. Site E was located after Kimmel s
Creek joined in with the river, where Kimmel s Creek brings fresh water and helps dilute or dissolve
the salt. All this data helps find the reason why the farmers are having problems with growing their
crops by the Nelson River.
The hypothesis that was being tested was if the salt facility was leaking salt, then the crops will not
grow. The hypothesis was supported by the data gathered because it proves that the seeds in the sites
located near the salt facility did not grow at all, but the other seeds did when they were not affected.
Site B and D s seeds did not even sprout and they were located either by the salt facility or slightly
downstream. Site Cand E was farther down the river and was not affected by the salt. Site A was
completely before the storage facility and was not affected in anyway since it was the control of the

Alone In Berlin, Red Tails, Saving Private Ryan, And...
WORLD WAR 2 MOVIES The movies we have been watching in class were: Alone in Berlin, Red
Tails, Saving Private Ryan, and Hacksaw Ridge. All of these films were based on 1900s events,
especially wars. However, the movies tend to add real and fictional events. Therefore, these motion
pictures were not completely historically accurate, but they do help in spreading the principle idea of
history. The first movie, Red Tails, is based on the Tuskegee Airmen in Italy during WW2. It provides
visuals of what problems this group of colored airmen faced. For example, they were only given used,

A Comparison Of Napoleon Bonaparte I And Napoleon I
During the nineteenth century, European countries had constantly changing borders between the
Napoleonic wars and the unification of Germany and Italy. Two of the military masterminds behind
wars that shifted borders were Napoleon Bonaparte I (Napoleon) and Helmuth von Moltke the Elder.
Napoleon Bonaparte was a French soldier from Corsica that worked his way up the rankings in the
French army during the French Revolution that ended up becoming the commander of the whole
French arm forces. He leveraged this leadership of the military to become the consulate of France and
then emperor of France in 1804. Furthermore, he hungered for nothing more then victory and he at
first caught the rest of Europe off guard and a lot of continental Europe in what would be known as
the Napoleonic Wars. Nevertheless, his reign over most of Europe was short lived and his campaign
faltered when he tried to have a land war against Russia. The rest of Europe saw it as an opportunity
and they defeated Napoleon. Napoleon s victories only lead to more bloodshed. He was then exiled to
Elba. He tried to make a return but was famously defeated at Waterloo, and was exiled again and died
in exile. In addition, Otto von Bismarck was the foreign affairs mastermind behind German
unification, but the military mastermind was Moltke. Moltke was a Danish born soldier in the Prussian
army. During his younger years as a career soldier he struggled to make money, so he was a freelance
writer on the side.

Summary Of How To Touch A Bleeding Dog
Love can often cause people to adjust their lifestyle to another person s. How to Touch a Bleeding
Dog shows how a guy who once had a wife that he loved took care of one of her most precious
possessions. It s safe to say the average human being doesn t have to have mutual friendship (a
human) with the dog in order to like him/her. In this case however the main character from this short
story says that the dog is not his, but is his responsibility. This responsibility seemed to fall to him due
to the passing of his wife. One could even say he seems disconnected from the world from the
relationship that is seen between him and his dog. The dogs passing could be seen as a metaphor for
the Beth leaving her husband on his own to provide for himself, to take care of any possessions she
may have had, and to fight his depression alone. The main character is now having feelings of
loneliness and depression. The first paragraph states that inside is warm , and outside is cold , This
could be tied as symbolism of the fact that he is secluding himself from the world. When the dog
passed away the main character said that it s not my dog, but it s my responsibility , this can make the
reader think of all of the other responsibilities that the main character was left with. There are
definitely some parallels between the dog and Beth. They both end up being burdens on the main
character and leaving behind more for him to deal with. After the dog passes away the main character
says the blood on the carpet of the car is out of sight, and I will pretend it isn t there. And then there s
the touch. The touch can be seen as how the dog emotionally affected him by passing away. The dog
did bring sadness to the main characters life due to the memories the main character seemed to have
when he interacted with the dog. I watched my hand volunteer itself and run its finger through the nap
of his head . The way this sentence is put together makes it sound as if his caring for the dog was an
involuntary action. One would think that if the pet had a close connection to a person, and that person
has passed away that someone who misses the person that has passed may use the pet to help with the
loss. The main character s

International trade is important and beneficial to business. However, international trade guides a

Legal issues are often evident however; the ethical and cultural issues create no clear cut answer to
solving legal disputes, as shown with compulsory licensing and sublicensing agreements.
Sublicensing agreements
In the Apollo Group stimulation, Addressing international legal and ethical issues (2004), CadMex and
Gentura have a pharmaceutical drug partnership located in Candore. The partnership specifies
contracts for International Sale of Goods as a choice of law and International Arbitration to solve
disputes. Later an outbreak of a viral infection creates a health emergency in Candore, and the
Candorean government places threat to suspend the ViroBlax drug patent. If CadMex refuses to
provide sublicensing of ViroBlax, the Candorean government will suspend CadMex s patent on
ViroBlax and provide compulsory licenses for domestic manufacture of generic ViroBlax. According
to World Trade Organization (2012), compulsory licensing is when a government allows someone else
to produce the patented product or process without the consent of the patent owner. It is one of the
flexibilities on patent protection included in the WTO s agreement on intellectual property (What is
compulsory licensing?). Sublicensing will take time and money to ensure the other pharmaceutical
companies meet CadMex standards, and production requirements. However allowing sublicensing
will preclude the need to suspend the patent and CadMex will still receive royalty payments due as

Peter Singer Equality
In All Animals Are Equal, Peter Singer argues that any being with sentience should be granted equal
moral consideration on the basis of the concept of equality and the principle of equal consideration of
interests. In this paper, I will reconstruct Singer s argument and explain the premises on how he came
to this conclusion. To begin with, Singer defines sentience as the capacity to suffer or experience
enjoyment or happiness (Singer 53). Singer states that if a being is not capable of suffering, or of
experiencing enjoyment or happiness, there is nothing to be taken into account... This is why the limit
of sentience... is the only defensible boundary of concern for the interests of other (Singer 50).
Firstly, Singer claims that we should understand the concept of equality as a reason for accepting the
conclusion of his argument. What he means by this is that the concept of equality is a moral ideal and
not a simple assertion of fact (Singer 52). In other words, when we say that all human beings are
equal, we do not assert that they are in fact equal in intelligence, moral capacity, physical strength, or
similar matters of fact. Instead, we assert that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is to say, for any being that has interests, these interests must be taken as equally morally
important with similar interests of another being. However, Singer notes that equal consideration of
interests does not imply identical treatment. Instead, Singer argues that the principle of equality is
equality of equal consideration for different beings may lead to different treatment and rights (Singer
50). Extending to nonhuman animals the same moral consideration we extend to human beings means
that we give the interests of nonhuman animals the same weight as comparable interests of human
beings (Singer

A Report On The s Change Model, Balance Scorecard And...
Executive Summary
This report will address strategy implementations for BBC3. The BBC have suggested to close BBC3.
However from our SWOT (appendix 1) and Porters 5 forces analysis (appendix 2) it was concluded
that they should not do this. Instead the BBC should keep BBC3 and close BBC4.
This report looks at how the change can be implemented using Lewin s Change Model, Balance
Scorecard and effective leadership.
Introduction
According to Hrebiniak (2006), formulating a consistent strategy is a difficult task however
implementing it is even more difficult. Noble, (1999b) suggested that strategy implementation is often
seen as a craft, rather than a science.
According to the Balanced Scorecard Collaborative (2007), there are four reasons ... Show more
content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the analysis it has been concluded that the BBC should keep BBC3 on the TV and instead
remove BBC4.
One reason for this strategy has been suggested is because the BBC have many diversified products to
meet requirement of each customer (BBC, 2014). However, BBC3 is the only channel that caters to
the younger market, 16 34 year olds, therefore by removing this from TV they would no longer have a
channel for this market. It has been found that youth are already underserved and older audiences are
over served (Plunkett, 2014) therefore by removing BBC3 from the TV they would be further
underserved. Additionally, there has been a signed petition against the BBC3 proposal (Change.org
2015) suggesting that its customers do not want it to be taken off TV. Furthermore 16% of UK
households don t have access to internet and by removing BBC3 from the TV that 16% of the market
will not be able to access it.
BBC4 have 2 million less viewers than BBC3 each week (BBC 2015). Additionally, BBC4 has many
repeat shows on the channel and also similar shows to BBC2 therefore by closing BBC4 instead of
BBC3 the BBC would lose less customers. Closing BBC4 would involve transferring longstanding
programmes that are shown on BBC4 to BBC 2 as the two channels are already working closely
together (BBC 2015).

The Comparison of Sigmund Freud and B.F. Skinner One name that jumps out at the mention of

Father of Psychoanalysis. Freud was also known for having the tendency to trace nearly all
psychological problems back to sexual issues. Although only parts of his theory of psychosexual
development are still accepted by mainstream psychologists, Freud s theory of the Oedipal Complex

Skinner is also known for major contributions to the field of psychology (About B.F. Skinner, Sept,
2012). Skinner was a prolific author, publishing nearly 200 articles and more than 20 books. Skinner
was most known for his work in behavior psychology. Behavioral psychology is the psychological
practice that focuses on learning new behaviors and how to modify our existing behavior and how that
takes place (About B.F. Skinner, Sept, 2012). One of his major contributions was his theory of operant
conditioning. Operant conditioning means roughly, the changing of behavior by the use of
reinforcement, either positive or negative, and which these reinforcements are given after the desired
response (About B.F. Skinner, Sept, 2012). Skinner identified three types of responses or operant that
can follow behavior. While behaviorism is no longer a dominant school of thought, the work in
operant conditioning remains today. Many different types of professionals utilize operant conditioning
in society today. Mental health professionals often utilize operant

How Associability Is Defined As The Links And Connections...
Associability is defined as the links and connections made between a stimuli and a response. There
have been many theories discussing what aspects of associability make it successful and what can be
done to clarify precisely how it works in an out of experiment setting. Two predominant theories are to
be discussed with compelling evidence for two very different explanations of associability and how its
change can be explained.
The first of these two theories is N.J. Mackintosh (1975). He refers to many past theories of attention
and how they are not suitable for discussing the associability of stimuli with reinforcement
(Mackintosh, 1975, p. 276) stating his new theory answers some unqualified assumptions. Previous
theories of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These relationships also interact with the second assumption he finds made by previous theories; that
stimuli compete for attention (Mackintosh, 1975, p.281). His discussion of overshadowing and
blocking, which I shall discuss later, lead him to his conclusion of relevance, where more attention is
paid to relevant stimuli and less to irrelevant stimuli such as where the stimuli only leads to a
predicted reinforcement (Mackintosh, 1975). Both this conclusion and the former, where change of α
potential leads to a change in performance in an experiment have large impacts for associability. They
appear to imply that in cases of associative change where a subject s focus switches from one thing to
another, it is not the case that they do not have the mental capacity to focus on both things but they
merely attend to those that provide it with its most rewarding option (ibid.).
Mackintosh s conclusions have drawn support, in particular M.E. LePelley and I.P.L. McLaren (2003).
They apply Mackintosh s theory to humans in an experiment where after being given a list of potential
allergens and outcomes, subjects are to assess which foods they feel a fictitious Mr. X. (LePelley and
McLaren, 2003, p.72) should avoid. The second stage involves Mr. Y. (ibid.) and based on previous
associations made, subjects are asked to assess for him too. Mackintosh s (1975) predictions would be

Overview of LASIK Eye Surgery
LASIK EYE SURGERY Introduction Laser assisted in situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) eye surgery is a
popular form of elective out patient surgery that enables individuals with poor eyesight to recover
improved vision, ideally, so that they can discard their glasses and contact lenses altogether
(Hellemans Bunch, 2006). In principle, LASIK consists of a procedure in which a laser is used to
reshape the lens of the eye. It works because the majority of cases of poor vision result from refractive
problems, meaning that the corneal lens of the eye fails to focus light properly onto the retina to
enable clear vision. Generally, this is caused by advancing age because the cornea becomes less
elastic, or by misshapen eyeballs that do not allow the cornea to form the correct shape for optimal
light refraction and vision (Hellemans Bunch, 2006). In most cases, LASIK provides dramatically
improved vision for the patient with a minimum of discomfort. However, there are potential side
effects and complications, some of which can leave patients worse off than before they sought
refractive eye surgery (Sutton Kim, 2010). Critics of the procedure argue that the rate of failure and
complication, despite being low in relation to the total number of patients treated, nevertheless amount
to a large number of patients (Solomon, Fernández de Castro, Sandoval, 2009). Most importantly, they
argue that the failure rate of LASIK would not be considered acceptable in other forms of surgery

Why Is Physician Assisted Suicide Wrong
Physician assisted suicide (PAS) has been debated for many years now. Is physician assisted suicide
right or is it wrong? Many people have very different views about this issue. Some supporters feel that
people should have the moral right to choose freely what they will do with their lives as long as they
do not harm others. This right of free choice includes the right to end one s life when they choose.
While you have some supporters who oppose any measures of permitting physician assisted suicide

The most powerful argument for physician assisted suicide is that it can relieve tremendous pain and
suffering of severely and terminally ill patients. Patients with advanced cancer or other diseases that
lead to a painful death that medical science is not yet able to treat effectively should be offered the
option of cutting short the pain that is inevitably tied to the end stages of their disease. Because of
their special expertise, physicians are best suited to assist a patient in ending their life in a peaceful
and pain free manner. As a society, failing to offer patients this choice shows a lack of compassion and
humanity. Along with saving terminally ill patients from pain, physician assisted suicide should be
legalized to allow patients with degenerative, progressive illnesses the option of choosing death before
it robs them of their mental and physical faculties. Diseases such as Lou Gehrig s disease, multiple
sclerosis, Huntington s disease and Alzheimer s disease lead to a slow, inevitable decline in function
that medical science has been unable to treat effectively. A person with one of these diseases may wish
to choose death as a way to preserve their dignity and in order to be remembered by their family and
friends as they wish to be remembered, rather than as a shell of their former selves. Former President
Ronald Reagan suffered from Alzheimer s disease. He was out of the public eye when he was in the
last stages of the disease. He was able to be remembered by the public as a strong and successful
leader, rather than as an Alzheimer s victim. Others should also have this right. After considering the
benefits to the patient of allowing physician assisted suicide, the benefits to the family and friends of
the dying person should also be considered. The suffering of a dying person s friends and

Two of Emily Dickinson s poems, I heard a Fly buzz when I died and Because I could not stop for
Death are both written about life s stopping point, death. Although the poems are written by the same
poet, both poems view death in a different manner. Between the two poems, one views death as

While both poems are about death, both poems also illustrate that the outcome of death is a mysterious

by the souls in Hellfire can inspire feel sorry for, however in the recounting the stories, it is constantly
conceivable to infer the explanations behind the condemned souls position in Damnation. Be that as it
may, there is an automatic response to separate Virgil and, apparently, a portion of alternate souls in
limbo from this gathering of the cursed, however, with cautious scrutiny of the content, the keen
pursuer can perceive the ruses behind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here Dante is a Christ figure, plummeting into Hellfire. Thusly, Virgil turns into a John the Baptist,
preceding Dante, making ready. Likewise, as John immersed Jesus at the Jordan, in this manner
announcing him to be the Christ, so does Virgil, getting out blessed is she that bore you in her womb!
(VIII.45) and, at different circumstances, additionally repeating how unique Dante is. Sixthly, there is
the purposeful anecdote of Dante as the encapsulation of verse. In such a circumstance then, Virgil
likewise progresses toward becoming verse, however verse unaided by elegance. He is the wonderful,
clearing, epic Aeneid, which at last and unavoidably misses the mark concerning The Celestial Parody
on account of its powerlessness to locate the light and love of God pervading all things. In conclusion,
one could fight that the whole arrangement of cantica speak to Dante s outcast from Florence from the
expulsion which opens Canto I of the Inferno which he can t grasp: he has no clue how he was ousted,
he was so brimming with rest . Virgil again would speak to logic helping Dante to adapt to the
bitterness of his outcast in the Inferno and helping him perceive the mountain he should scale: the
Drama itself. In any case, having scaled the mountain, having made his showstopper, he no longer
needs his long partner theory, rather turning towards religious philosophy and his rapidly moving

Childhood Obesity Analysis
Parents Child Caretakers Obesity in America is literally a growing problem, affecting every age group.
Children are the most venerable group because they have no control over where they have dinner or
how often they have fast food. Parents and guardians make decisions about food and are responsible
for the health of children. Childhood obesity has more than doubled in the last twenty years. This is
concerning because Type Two diabetes is a horrible, crippling disease that is affecting children and
teens dramatically whereas the disease was primarily seen in adults. Children are said to have a shorter
life span than their parents for the first time ever. In the United States sixty six percent of adults are
overweight and one in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, childhood obesity effects more than 9
million children and teenagers between the ages of 6 19 in the United States with another 8 million
considered at risk of becoming obese. These staggering figures have cause groups to form all across
the country and organize their efforts to prevent this disease. One such organization is the Leadership
for Healthy Communities, which is a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
(RWJF). The RWJF holds summits nationwide events calling on policy leaders nationwide to advance
healthy eating and active living options in their communities. According to the RWJF, a special
emphasis has been placed on collaborative state and community policy approaches that address
childhood obesity among vulnerable populations disproportionately affected by the epidemic. The
RWJF also has a panel, which consists of its chairmen, doctors, lawyers, but more importantly
politicians on the state and federal level who are taking childhood obesity head on and working with
organizations like the RWJF to promote healthy, cost effective change in communities nationwide.
Arkansas, as well as many other states, has adopted legislation preventing the sale of fatty foods

Essay On Soul Tour
On the 23 of September 2017 around 7:30pm I went and saw Tim McGraw and Faith Hill preform
their Soul 2 Soul tour at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. I have never seen either of the two
preform live in concert only on shows like the Country Music awards until this date. Having been a
fan of country music and growing up in a family who has always been fans of this genera of music, I
have listened to them both since and have been a huge fan of them each since. I wanted to see them
live not only being a fan of the two artists separately, but also this is the first time they have toured
together in quite a while, if not the first, so it would not only be a once in a lifetime event but also a
chance to see two of my favorite artists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It seemed at the start of the show they sang songs that where at the start of their music careers and
progressed through their career. They sang each song as a duet no matter if it was a Tim or Faith song.
My favorite song of the night was Tim s Stay Humble and Kind and Faith s I need you , which was an
encore song. During the encore everyone thought that the show was over, but Tim came out into the
Stadium seat and Faith walked through the floor seats and they sang. The special effects added even
more to the experience. I would go back and see the same exact show if I had the chance. The crowd
was a very respectful crowd. For me it did not seem to be the stereotypical crowd that you would
imagine at a summer concert that this was. People where up and singing and dancing to the music and
where having an overall good time listening to the music. The crowd ranged from little kids to adults,
but everyone was almost in unison with the music, it s a weird thing to experience. From where my
family where sitting we did not see that much alcohol being drank and even less intoxicated people.
With this you could really enjoy the show without having to deal with annoying drunk fans. If you
accidently bump into someone they where respectful and apologized. You could talk to your family
and Tim and Faith would encourage you to sing along to the music by stopping mid song and you
would sing without them.

JFK Assassination Report
John F. kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. He was shot four times in
by a guy named Lee Harvey Oswald.(John F. Kennedy assassination). JFK was not the only one that
was shot and injured that day. Texas governor was also shot five times but he survived the shot. Before
losing consciousness, Connally recalled seeing a chunk of Kennedy s brain fall onto his trousers.
(Greenspan 2013)Oswald was in an old Texas School Book Depository Building on the sixth floor,
fatally wounding President Kennedy and seriously injuring Governor Connally. Kennedy was
pronounced dead 30 minutes later at Dallas Parkland Hospital. He was 46. Less than an hour after
Kennedy was shot, Oswald killed a policeman who questioned him on

Essay on Retirement Revamping
Social Security is a major concern in American society today. Social Security first started in 1935
under President Roosevelt when he signed the Social Security Act that provided the elderly with
guaranteed retirement income. In 1939, benefits for spouses, dependent children of retirees, and
survivors of workers who die before retirement were implemented by congress. In the 1950 s, disabled
workers were also given benefits. Now days, Social Security is under close scrutiny. Funds are
depleting, and Social Security is in need of some serious revamping. Many solutions have come forth,
but the most workable plan is to create privatized investment accounts that allow individuals to have
more influence over their own money for retirement. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still others feel that America needs to do nothing and the only measures needed are good economic
policies. They feel that the situation can work itself out, and as long as the economy is kept healthy,
then Social Security will be just fine. (Strengthening)
Of all the ways posed, the best way to solve both the need for Social Security reform and economic
growth simultaneously is private investment accounts. This solution is one of allowing the younger
generation to start privatized accounts for their social security funds. Martin Feldstein, a professor of
economics at Harvard University and president of the National Bureau of Economics Research, states:
Our current Social Security system is acting as a drag on economic growth in two important ways.
First, the payroll tax distorts the supply of labor and the type of compensation sought by workers.
These losses are inevitable because of the low return implied by the pay as you go character of the
unfunded Social Security system. Second, the system reduces national savings and investment.
Privatizing Social Security, transforming it from an unfunded pay as you go system to a system of
mandatory private savings accounts, would solve both of those problems and increase

The Quality Of A Person s Relationships With Their...
This research is designed to answer the following question: Does the quality of a person s
relationships with their parents and with their peers influence the extent to which that person engages
in marijuana use? Data for this study come from the [seventh wave of the] National Youth Survey
(NYS). The NYS is a nationally representative, longitudinal survey of 1,725 U.S. youth between the
ages of 11 and 17 at the time of the first interview in early 1977. Respondents were interviewed
annually through 1981 (Waves 1 5) and then again in 1984 (Wave 6) and 1987 (Wave 7). By the last
wave of interviews, respondents were between the ages of 21 and 27 years (King South, 2011, p. 107).
The variables used consisted of two independent variables, Perceived Disapproval by Parents Towards
Deviance and Perceived Disapproval by Peers Towards Deviance, and the dependent variable of
Marijuana Use. The variable Perceived Disapproval by Parents was operationalized by creating a
composite variable from the following questions: PARENTS OPIN: CHEAT ON INCOME TAX
(Y7_378), PARENTS OPIN: STOLEN WORTH $5 (Y7_379), PARENTS OPIN: SOLD HARD
DRUGS (Y7_380), PARENTS OPIN: USED MARIJUANA (Y7_381), PARENTS OPIN: STOLE
WORTH $50 (Y7_382), PARENTS OPIN: HIT SOMEONE (Y7_383), PARENTS OPIN:
DESTROYED PROPERTY (Y7_385), PARENTS OPIN: BROKE INTO VEHICLE (Y7_386),
PARENTS OPIN: DELIB HURT SP/PARTN (Y7_387) (National Youth Survey [United States]: Wave
VII, 1987). The composite variable was created by taking

Analysis Of That Lean And Hungry Look By Suzanne Britt
We All Can be Equal A few of the many problems in this world occur because we judge each other
based on our differences whether is be, color, size, or shape. An example of one of the biggest
differences would be size. Suzanne Britt discussed her view of fat and thin people in a brief essay
called, That Lean and Hungry Look where she explains how fat people are far better than thin people.
She states, You ve got your together thin person, your mechanical thin person, your condescending
thin person, your tsk tsk thin person, your efficiency thin person (Britt 181). Many people in society
actually go off of Britts statement, everyone puts fat and thin people into separate categories just
because that is the way it has always been. There are many examples of how we see each other in
categories, but in the end there s always a fact that disproves it. One of the most biased categories thin
people are put into is being logic thinkers and enjoying math. There have been many thin
mathematicians in the history of the United States such as, Albert Einstein, ... Show more content on

It s a harsh way of putting it but fat people feel as though thin people just can t be there for them. They
all, fat and thin, navigate towards people like them in their times of need because they feel as though
since they don t look the same they won t understand each other. Suzanne Britt states, Thin people are
neither gooey nor soft (181). She also states, What you want when you re down is soft and jiggly not
muscle and stable. This can be true when some people are down, maybe they want someone
comfortable like a fat person to hug and make themselves feel better. However, some people when
they re down navigate towards a thin person to get the motivation they need to move on and work on
things to make themselves feel better such as working out. To feel better, a combination of a fat and
thin person can help you more overall rather than just one

She had just met with the firm s Executive Committee to present the very first information technology (IT) strategic plan in the history of Cirque. The plan presented a coherent and organized vision of IT use at Cirque. The Executive Committee had reacted very positively to her recommendations, although the members of the committee were not accustomed to discussing issues as technical as IT. It combined the spectacular side of traditional circus, like acrobats and a big top, with the more dramatic and sophisticated elements of theatre. tC Audiences and critics alike were immediately conquered. Success was instantaneous. Cirque du Soleil succeeded in redefining the circus experience for the audience by capturing the imagination of the public. The show was presented in 10 cities in Quebec. In 1984, 73 people worked for Cirque du Soleil. This first show established the foundations and the concept. During the years that followed, Cirque grew very quickly. By 2000, Cirque du Soleil had evolved from its modest beginnings to become a complex organization with operations in several cities and shows on the road around the world. In 2000, Cirque du Soleil had three permanent or resident shows: Mystère, which had been presented at Treasure Island in Las Vegas since 1993, Ô, presented at the Bellagio in Las Vegas since October 1998, and La Nouba, presented at the Walt Disney World Resort since December 1998. Insanity Defense Pros And Cons Insane Insanity Plea The option to utilize the insanity defense in court should be supported because it is needed to acquit those individuals who had no control over their actions due to a physical ailment, to put a mentally ill patient in with the general prison population would be unconstitutional, and those who are mentally insane need special services for rehabilitation. The insanity defense should be available to those who had no control of their actions due to a physical illness. D wounded a female neighbor friend whilst sleepwalking. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The criminally insane need a special form of rehabilitation and should be granted to right to fight for this sentence. The insanity defense serves a definitive purpose in our legal system dismissing those who should truly be found innocent. The option to utilize the insanity defense in court should not be supported because it is not always effective for those who truly need it, it is a Catch 22 and a mental illness does not dismiss the fact that a crime has taken place. The insanity plea should be abolished because it does not help those who need it, the bar at which you qualify for insanity is near unreachable, which renders the plea useless. Psychiatrists who examined Andrea Yates testified repeatedly she was mentally ill and suffered from severe postpartum depression but that was not enough to brand her legally insane (Seligman). This woman was later retried and did succeed in using the insanity defense. The fact that she was not allowed to use it the first time shows how hard it is to succeed using this defense. The first time she tried to use the defense, she clearly qualified but was dismissed due to other factors; if the plea is not for the insane then who is it for? The insanity plea should be reexamined because it is a Catch 22. • 5. Religion And Its Impact On Society Even before there were millions of copies of bibles in circulation religion has been a part of society that has always been there. But is this idea of rules and regulations enforced by a belief system really helpful to society? In a world without religion would there be less wars, hatred, and discrimination? With so many people involved or affiliated with religion it is important to explore deeper into the negative impact that religion has on society and try to make the world a better place with information that will help all. At a personal level religion fulfills the role of accounting for a lack of knowledge and offering hope in the face of difficulties while also offering a sense of belonging. To identify with a religious ideology, and call it the only truth and way, leads to the tremendously negative consequences of hatred, racism, and all kinds of violence. These consequences of a world in disarray due to religion far outweigh the small personal fulfillments. As Steven Weinberg, an American physicist and Nobel laureate states, With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion. Although religion claims to lead people towards truth, light, and happiness, in reality it actually leads them in the opposite direction. The most popular argument against religion in society is the fact that religion leads to war and violence which then in turn results in poverty, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Aa Meeting Reflection Attending an AA meeting was intimidating at first, but it was one of the most moving and enlightening experiences of my life. I attended a meeting called the Nooners Group at the Serenity Club in Alexandria. The group had six men and one woman in attendance. The members were mostly white and were about 40 years or older. The group seemed to be in a middle or lower socio economic level. The meeting started with several short readings. I was invited to read the AA preamble. Then, the group leader suggested reading a story from the big blue book. The story focused on a woman s denial of her addiction and eventual acceptance of her alcoholism. After the reading, almost every person spoke about their own addiction and how it related to the story of the woman. After the time of sharing, the group held hands, said the AA chants, and recited the Lord s Prayer. Afterwards, some group members lingered to interact and chat. I was so moved by the power of the meeting. At times, it felt very serious and emotional, but there were moments of levity, where the group would laugh or nod in agreement. Overall, the meeting was emotional, inspirational, and healing. Several themes were prevalent throughout the meeting: control, fear, life and death, and gratitude. Many people spoke about the pain of not being able to control their desire for alcohol, while others focused the cravings control over their lives. Other members spoke about letting ... The Issue Of Mineral Rights Essay As a first time homebuyer in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I thought I had very carefully prepared myself for all that the process would involve, including gathering income and financial documentation, qualifying for a mortgage, arranging for a thorough inspection, evaluating needs and desires from a home and finding a reputable agent to represent my interests. One area I never considered, however, was the issue of mineral rights. To be perfectly honest, although I d heard the term, I d never given consideration to what it actually meant. But that all changed in the middle of my home buying process and I d like to share with you the knowledge I ve gained through extensive research I completed to protect my own rights and the rights I would possess as a soon to be homeowner. According to property law, two different forms of rights exist in any real property: surface rights and mineral rights. Surface rights refer to any structure erected above the surface or sub surface structures that do not exceed a certain depth, as well as rights to use all surface property surrounding structures in accordance with zoning ordinances. Mineral rights refer to mineral substances below a certain depth and the way in which they are preserved, explored or extracted. • 11. Is Your Yoga Practice A Vehicle For Mental Health And... Is your yoga practice a vehicle for mental health and self actualization or are you content with just doing the physical practice? Yoga was originally intended to be a practice to facilitate self actualization, meaning to realize who you are and being comfortable being you. More recently in the western yoga world, there has been a separation between physical development and spiritual development. Social media has defined yoga as cool physical postures. Yet, do not be fooled into believing that you will be self actualized by only practicing asana. Asana is only one of the eight limbs, and a healthy body means nothing without a healthy mind. There are many benefits from doing the physical practice, including improved overall physical fitness, stress relief, and a reduction in anxiety and depression. But how can your yoga practice be an instrument for self actualization? First of all, motivation is important. You have to want more. Without the desire to grow and learn, self actualization will not occur. That motivation often comes from being in a place where nothing else is working. A time when you have tried everything else, and still you do not feel fulfilled. The Trifecta Approach There is a combination that will help you on your path towards fulfillment through self actualization. I call it the trifecta approach. Here are the three key methods that work together to facilitate mental health and a life fully lived. 1. Yoga Practice: Find the right yoga teacher who supports your individual development beyond the physical asana. 2. Meditate: Develop a solid sitting practice. This more subtle practice will strengthen your ability to observe all mental activity. 3. Psychotherapy: Find a good therapist who will see you, hear you, support you, and guide you through your own transformation, and who will encourage you to keep at it. This may seem like a complex combination, but here is a case that demonstrates the trifecta s approach in action. Alex s Story1 Alex is a dedicated yoga practitioner. Confusing, and you probably did not learn anything, and you may feel somewhat slighted, because you do not have any of the guns that the so called expert was stating emphatically that you need. From this point you can de cock it to make it double action or leave the hammer back for single action. • 17. Challenges Of Bilingual Education Bilingual is a person who can use two languages in his daily life, and they can basically speak a foreign language and a native language while listening, speaking, reading and writing. Today, many developing countries are trying bilingual education as a dominant form of education because through experimentation and time accumulation, bilingual education is a great advantage for all students (Thomas, W Collier, V. 1997). Bilingual education has a high demand among schools, teachers, courses, textbooks, and students. For example, in China, there are many ethnic groups, which are scattered in different regions. The government not only wants each group to retain its original language, but also hopes that they can communicate with each other in Mandarin. The Chinese government has introduced bilingual education into the educational system of ethnic minorities. Although developing countries face several challenges in integrating bilingual education into the regular teaching of school, there are several strategies that might help. Before discussing the challenges of bilingual education in developing countries, there are three distinct characteristics of Bilingual Education. The first characteristic is language goals. It means bilingual education that aims to promote bilingual or multilingual competence by using both or all languages as media of instruction for significant portions of the academic curriculum (Genesee, F. 2005). The next characteristic is teaching methods. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Philos, Eros, Agape Love in Religion Essay Philia, eros, and agape are three different Greek terms for the word. These three terms explain the different types of love a human being can acquire. Philia is a love of friendship, which is grounded in commonality. However, eros is a kind of love that seeks something from the other person or thing. Lastly, agape is the love that wills the good of the other and is completely self giving. The meanings of these Greek terminologies, philia, eros, and agape, allow us to better understand and discuss our relationship with God and human fulfillment. In order to find human fulfillment, one must find God of Jesus Christ as well. Erotic loving is our desire for this fulfillment, which can be seen through eros. Human nature can be simply defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sartre attested that the human being is a useless passion due to our insatiable desires. Markedly, human beings desire to retain the infinite and that need is simply impossible. For the search for the unlimited is tiresome and unappeasable. Conversely, there is an alternate way of looking at eros. In order to have hope, God has to appear to human life as not a receding horizon but an absolute savior. Human beings long for the truth and due to the constraints of science and history, Jesus is seen in an alternate way because he is no longer limited by space or time. In this case, Karl Rahner and Saint Augustine both agree that God always initiates the relationship with human life. Namely, they asserted that we are constantly drawn to God and God is not drawn to us. Because of this, we have the option of forming a better relationship with God. Rahner said that God dispenses his grace to all human beings of every religion in and God is continually accepting. Chiefly, it is not God s choice to accept or deny us, for that is not his matter . • 21. Why Did Salt Grow In River Essay The Effect of Salt on Radish Seed Growth along the Nelson River in Ensi county, Indiana. Autumn Acord Radish farms along the Nelson river had a recent lack of growth of their radishes. A landfill and a salt storage facility had recently opened along the river near the farms. Samples from the river were taken and used to grow radishes to see what caused the lack of growth. The salt storage facility had leaked into the river, causing samples B and D not grow. Introduction In Ensi County, Indiana along the Nelson River it has been reported by two farmers that their crops are not growing. Three farmers use the Nelson River and the same methods they used the previous year to produce their crops. Recently added in their area was a salt storage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was in the middle of Nelson River between irrigation pumps. There was an abundance of salt and it was not able to dissolve or become diluted enough for the plants to grow. This helps prove that the salt is the reason why the radish seeds were not growing on this farm. Each seed with Site E water grew on average 7.625 centimeters. Site E was located after Kimmel s Creek joined in with the river, where Kimmel s Creek brings fresh water and helps dilute or dissolve the salt. All this data helps find the reason why the farmers are having problems with growing their crops by the Nelson River. The hypothesis that was being tested was if the salt facility was leaking salt, then the crops will not grow. The hypothesis was supported by the data gathered because it proves that the seeds in the sites located near the salt facility did not grow at all, but the other seeds did when they were not affected. Site B and D s seeds did not even sprout and they were located either by the salt facility or slightly downstream. Site Cand E was farther down the river and was not affected by the salt. Site A was completely before the storage facility and was not affected in anyway since it was the control of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All of these films were based on 1900s events, especially wars. However, the movies tend to add real and fictional events. Therefore, these motion pictures were not completely historically accurate, but they do help in spreading the principle idea of history. The first movie, Red Tails, is based on the Tuskegee Airmen in Italy during WW2. It provides visuals of what problems this group of colored airmen faced. For example, they were only given used, hand me down flying equipment from the white airmen. In addition, they were barely permitted to be hands on in the fighting of the war, so they were given jobs to protect lands. A Comparison Of Napoleon Bonaparte I And Napoleon I During the nineteenth century, European countries had constantly changing borders between the Napoleonic wars and the unification of Germany and Italy. Two of the military masterminds behind wars that shifted borders were Napoleon Bonaparte I (Napoleon) and Helmuth von Moltke the Elder. Napoleon Bonaparte was a French soldier from Corsica that worked his way up the rankings in the French army during the French Revolution that ended up becoming the commander of the whole French arm forces. He leveraged this leadership of the military to become the consulate of France and then emperor of France in 1804. Furthermore, he hungered for nothing more then victory and he at first caught the rest of Europe off guard and a lot of continental Europe in what would be known as the Napoleonic Wars. Nevertheless, his reign over most of Europe was short lived and his campaign faltered when he tried to have a land war against Russia. The rest of Europe saw it as an opportunity and they defeated Napoleon. Napoleon s victories only lead to more bloodshed. He was then exiled to Elba. He tried to make a return but was famously defeated at Waterloo, and was exiled again and died in exile. How to Touch a Bleeding Dog shows how a guy who once had a wife that he loved took care of one of her most precious possessions. It s safe to say the average human being doesn t have to have mutual friendship (a human) with the dog in order to like him/her. In this case however the main character from this short story says that the dog is not his, but is his responsibility. This responsibility seemed to fall to him due to the passing of his wife. One could even say he seems disconnected from the world from the relationship that is seen between him and his dog. The dogs passing could be seen as a metaphor for the Beth leaving her husband on his own to provide for himself, to take care of any possessions she may have had, and to fight his depression alone. The main character is now having feelings of loneliness and depression. The first paragraph states that inside is warm , and outside is cold , This could be tied as symbolism of the fact that he is secluding himself from the world. When the dog passed away the main character said that it s not my dog, but it s my responsibility , this can make the reader think of all of the other responsibilities that the main character was left with. There are definitely some parallels between the dog and Beth. They both end up being burdens on the main character and leaving behind more for him to deal with. After the dog passes away the main character says the blood on the carpet of the car is out of sight, and I will pretend it isn t there. And then there s the touch. The touch can be seen as how the dog emotionally affected him by passing away. The dog did bring sadness to the main characters life due to the memories the main character seemed to have when he interacted with the dog. I watched my hand volunteer itself and run its finger through the nap of his head . The way this sentence is put together makes it sound as if his caring for the dog was an involuntary action. One would think that if the pet had a close connection to a person, and that person has passed away that someone who misses the person that has passed may use the pet to help with the loss. Peter Singer Equality In All Animals Are Equal, Peter Singer argues that any being with sentience should be granted equal moral consideration on the basis of the concept of equality and the principle of equal consideration of interests. In this paper, I will reconstruct Singer s argument and explain the premises on how he came to this conclusion. To begin with, Singer defines sentience as the capacity to suffer or experience enjoyment or happiness (Singer 53). Singer states that if a being is not capable of suffering, or of experiencing enjoyment or happiness, there is nothing to be taken into account... This is why the limit of sentience... is the only defensible boundary of concern for the interests of other (Singer 50). Firstly, Singer claims that we should understand the concept of equality as a reason for accepting the conclusion of his argument. What he means by this is that the concept of equality is a moral ideal and not a simple assertion of fact (Singer 52). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the analysis it has been concluded that the BBC should keep BBC3 on the TV and instead remove BBC4. One reason for this strategy has been suggested is because the BBC have many diversified products to meet requirement of each customer (BBC, 2014). However, BBC3 is the only channel that caters to the younger market, 16 34 year olds, therefore by removing this from TV they would no longer have a channel for this market. It has been found that youth are already underserved and older audiences are over served (Plunkett, 2014) therefore by removing BBC3 from the TV they would be further underserved. Additionally, there has been a signed petition against the BBC3 proposal (Change.org 2015) suggesting that its customers do not want it to be taken off TV. Furthermore 16% of UK households don t have access to internet and by removing BBC3 from the TV that 16% of the market will not be able to access it. BBC4 have 2 million less viewers than BBC3 each week (BBC 2015). Additionally, BBC4 has many repeat shows on the channel and also similar shows to BBC2 therefore by closing BBC4 instead of BBC3 the BBC would lose less customers. Closing BBC4 would involve transferring longstanding programmes that are shown on BBC4 to BBC 2 as the two channels are already working closely together (BBC 2015). There have been many theories discussing what aspects of associability make it successful and what can be done to clarify precisely how it works in an out of experiment setting. Two predominant theories are to be discussed with compelling evidence for two very different explanations of associability and how its change can be explained. The first of these two theories is N.J. Mackintosh (1975). These relationships also interact with the second assumption he finds made by previous theories; that stimuli compete for attention (Mackintosh, 1975, p.281). His discussion of overshadowing and blocking, which I shall discuss later, lead him to his conclusion of relevance, where more attention is paid to relevant stimuli and less to irrelevant stimuli such as where the stimuli only leads to a predicted reinforcement (Mackintosh, 1975). Both this conclusion and the former, where change of α potential leads to a change in performance in an experiment have large impacts for associability. They appear to imply that in cases of associative change where a subject s focus switches from one thing to another, it is not the case that they do not have the mental capacity to focus on both things but they merely attend to those that provide it with its most rewarding option (ibid.). Mackintosh s conclusions have drawn support, in particular M.E. LePelley and I.P.L. McLaren (2003). They apply Mackintosh s theory to humans in an experiment where after being given a list of potential allergens and outcomes, subjects are to assess which foods they feel a fictitious Mr. X. Overview of LASIK Eye Surgery LASIK EYE SURGERY Introduction Laser assisted in situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) eye surgery is a popular form of elective out patient surgery that enables individuals with poor eyesight to recover improved vision, ideally, so that they can discard their glasses and contact lenses altogether (Hellemans Bunch, 2006). In principle, LASIK consists of a procedure in which a laser is used to reshape the lens of the eye. It works because the majority of cases of poor vision result from refractive problems, meaning that the corneal lens of the eye fails to focus light properly onto the retina to enable clear vision. Generally, this is caused by advancing age because the cornea becomes less elastic, or by misshapen eyeballs that do not allow the cornea to form the correct shape for optimal light refraction and vision (Hellemans Bunch, 2006). In most cases, LASIK provides dramatically improved vision for the patient with a minimum of discomfort. However, there are potential side effects and complications, some of which can leave patients worse off than before they sought refractive eye surgery (Sutton Kim, 2010). Critics of the procedure argue that the rate of failure and complication, despite being low in relation to the total number of patients treated, nevertheless amount to a large number of patients (Solomon, Fernández de Castro, Sandoval, 2009). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most powerful argument for physician assisted suicide is that it can relieve tremendous pain and suffering of severely and terminally ill patients. Patients with advanced cancer or other diseases that lead to a painful death that medical science is not yet able to treat effectively should be offered the option of cutting short the pain that is inevitably tied to the end stages of their disease. Because of their special expertise, physicians are best suited to assist a patient in ending their life in a peaceful and pain free manner. As a society, failing to offer patients this choice shows a lack of compassion and humanity. Along with saving terminally ill patients from pain, physician assisted suicide should be legalized to allow patients with degenerative, progressive illnesses the option of choosing death before it robs them of their mental and physical faculties. Diseases such as Lou Gehrig s disease, multiple sclerosis, Huntington s disease and Alzheimer s disease lead to a slow, inevitable decline in function that medical science has been unable to treat effectively. Sympathy For The Damned In Virgil s Inferno In the note to Canto V with respect to Francesca and Paulo, the Hollanders shout that Sympathy for the damned, in the Inferno, is nearly always and nearly certainly the sign of a wavering moral disposition (112). I have never seen either of the two preform live in concert only on shows like the Country Music awards until this date. Having been a fan of country music and growing up in a family who has always been fans of this genera of music, I have listened to them both since and have been a huge fan of them each since. I wanted to see them live not only being a fan of the two artists separately, but also this is the first time they have toured together in quite a while, if not the first, so it would not only be a once in a lifetime event but also a chance to see two of my favorite artists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seemed at the start of the show they sang songs that where at the start of their music careers and progressed through their career. They sang each song as a duet no matter if it was a Tim or Faith song. My favorite song of the night was Tim s Stay Humble and Kind and Faith s I need you , which was an encore song. During the encore everyone thought that the show was over, but Tim came out into the Stadium seat and Faith walked through the floor seats and they sang. The special effects added even more to the experience. I would go back and see the same exact show if I had the chance. The crowd was a very respectful crowd. For me it did not seem to be the stereotypical crowd that you would imagine at a summer concert that this was. People where up and singing and dancing to the music and where having an overall good time listening to the music. The crowd ranged from little kids to adults, but everyone was almost in unison with the music, it s a weird thing to experience. From where my family where sitting we did not see that much alcohol being drank and even less intoxicated people. With this you could really enjoy the show without having to deal with annoying drunk fans. If you accidently bump into someone they where respectful and apologized. You could talk to your family and Tim and Faith would encourage you to sing along to the music by stopping mid song and you would sing without them. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Essay on Retirement Revamping Social Security is a major concern in American society today. Social Security first started in 1935 under President Roosevelt when he signed the Social Security Act that provided the elderly with guaranteed retirement income. In 1939, benefits for spouses, dependent children of retirees, and survivors of workers who die before retirement were implemented by congress. In the 1950 s, disabled workers were also given benefits. Now days, Social Security is under close scrutiny. Funds are depleting, and Social Security is in need of some serious revamping. Many solutions have come forth, but the most workable plan is to create privatized investment accounts that allow individuals to have more influence over their own money for retirement. ... They feel that the situation can work itself out, and as long as the economy is kept healthy, then Social Security will be just fine. (Strengthening) Of all the ways posed, the best way to solve both the need for Social Security reform and economic growth simultaneously is private investment accounts. This solution is one of allowing the younger generation to start privatized accounts for their social security funds. Martin Feldstein, a professor of economics at Harvard University and president of the National Bureau of Economics Research, states: Our current Social Security system is acting as a drag on economic growth in two important ways. First, the payroll tax distorts the supply of labor and the type of compensation sought by workers. These losses are inevitable because of the low return implied by the pay as you go character of the unfunded Social Security system. Second, the system reduces national savings and investment. Privatizing Social Security, transforming it from an unfunded pay as you go system to a system of mandatory private savings accounts, would solve both of those problems and increase ... This research is designed to answer the following question: Does the quality of a person s relationships with their parents and with their peers influence the extent to which that person engages in marijuana use? Data for this study come from the [seventh wave of the] National Youth Survey (NYS). The NYS is a nationally representative, longitudinal survey of 1,725 U.S. youth between the ages of 11 and 17 at the time of the first interview in early 1977. Respondents were interviewed annually through 1981 (Waves 1 5) and then again in 1984 (Wave 6) and 1987 (Wave 7). By the last wave of interviews, respondents were between the ages of 21 and 27 years (King South, 2011, p. 107). The variables used consisted of two independent variables, Perceived Disapproval by Parents Towards Deviance and Perceived Disapproval by Peers Towards Deviance, and the dependent variable of Marijuana Use. The variable Perceived Disapproval by Parents was operationalized by creating a composite variable from the following questions: PARENTS OPIN: CHEAT ON INCOME TAX (Y7_378), PARENTS OPIN: STOLEN WORTH $5 (Y7_379), PARENTS OPIN: SOLD HARD DRUGS (Y7_380), PARENTS OPIN: USED MARIJUANA (Y7_381), PARENTS OPIN: STOLE WORTH $50 (Y7_382), PARENTS OPIN: HIT SOMEONE (Y7_383), PARENTS OPIN: DESTROYED PROPERTY (Y7_385), PARENTS OPIN: BROKE INTO VEHICLE (Y7_386), PARENTS OPIN: DELIB HURT SP/PARTN (Y7_387) (National Youth Survey [United States]: Wave VII, 1987). • 47. Analysis Of That Lean And Hungry Look By Suzanne Britt We All Can be Equal A few of the many problems in this world occur because we judge each other based on our differences whether is be, color, size, or shape. An example of one of the biggest differences would be size. Suzanne Britt discussed her view of fat and thin people in a brief essay called, That Lean and Hungry Look where she explains how fat people are far better than thin people. She states, You ve got your together thin person, your mechanical thin person, your condescending thin person, your tsk tsk thin person, your efficiency thin person (Britt 181). Many people in society actually go off of Britts statement, everyone puts fat and thin people into separate categories just because that is the way it has always been. There are many examples of how we see each other in categories, but in the end there s always a fact that disproves it. One of the most biased categories thin people are put into is being logic thinkers and enjoying math. Suzanne Britt states, Thin people are neither gooey nor soft (181). She also states, What you want when you re down is soft and jiggly not muscle and stable. This can be true when some people are down, maybe they want someone comfortable like a fat person to hug and make themselves feel better. However, some people when they re down navigate towards a thin person to get the motivation they need to move on and work on things to make themselves feel better such as working out.
