Search For Identity In Surfacing, By Margaret Atwood
In this situation the question of an authentic Canadian voice has troubled many Canadian writers. At
the same time the regional consciousness in Canada began to give rise to a national consciousness
which further broadened into an international or universal consciousness. This awakened conscience
led to the writers showing a preoccupation with quest themes, search for identity and self definition
which turned out to be search for inner space. This phenomenon appears in the fiction of Margaret
Atwood.
Conversely, in the canon of postcolonial writers, Atwood is a troublesome figure. Despite her notable
search for an understanding of Canada that is not first mediated by an English or American aesthetic.

The major theme of the novel Search for identity , like national identity, identity of selfhood and
identity of womanhood, for the protagonist has become difficult because of her role as a victim of
colonial forces. She has been colonized by men in the patriarchal society in which she grew up.
Initially, the narrator of the story returns to the undeveloped island that she grew up on to search for
her missing father in that process she unmasks the inconsistencies in both her personal life and her
patriarchal society. The unnamed narrator of Surfacing comes back to her home in Northern Quebec
after a gap of nine years in search of her father, who is reported missing mysteriously. The protagonist
is working as a commercial artist. The reason for the deliberate separation from her parents is that the
narrator was in love with her teacher, who exploited her innocence. Against her wishes, he got the
pregnancy terminated. Unable to cope with this painful reality she gave her parents a different version.
She wrote a postcard and informed them that she was married, had a child and lost him to the husband

Essay On Employee Engagement
Engagement affecting different Generations within the organization Measuring employee engagement
by generation like other areas is another way to heighten employee engagement strategies to best fit an
organization. Traditionalist are the highest engaged individuals than all generations within the
workforce at 41% engagement levels. However, the workforce includes a total of five generations
(Gallup Inc., 2013). Yet, the three biggest age cohorts are baby boomers, generation X, and
Millennials: out of 59 million Americans in the workforce, the highest age concentration of
management, professional, and related occupations range from age 25 64 years, totaling 51 million

Baby Boomers Baby boomers can be described as individuals raised during a time of economic
growth, along with turmoil with politics and ideologic issues (Hoole Bonnema, 2015). Baby boomers
are the second oldest generation in the workforce, and working towards retirement. Baby Boomers
poses strong work ethics and loyalty to organizations, they usually do not switch careers (Hoole
Bonnema, 2015). Although Gallup states that baby boomers are the least engaged out of the
generations in the U.S. workforce, in Australia baby boomers are considered the most engaged (Hoole
Bonnema, 2015). However, baby boomers rather work alone that in teams, going back to example
above the four baby boomers in the group values work completion, they rather just come in do their
work and go home, learning new skills and methods to complete work is not on their radar. They
rather develop greater commitment and leadership skills (Hoole Bonnema, 2015). Baby Boomers hold
extensive knowledge and what drives engagement for them is money and benefits to prepare for
retirement (Pregnolato, Bussin, Schlechter, 2016)
Generation X Generation X are the children of Baby Boomers, whom grew up with technological
innovation. Generation X member make a large portion of the workforce for over thirty years. Like
their parents, Generation X possess strong work ethics and career loyalty, however work life balance
is just as important (Hoole Bonnema, 2015). Generation X employees have high demands

What Are The Consequences Of The Crusades
Before the Crusades began, in the 11th century, Western Europe had emerged with great power, while
Mediterranean civilizations were being invaded by Seljuk Turks. After years of war, the general
Alexius Comnenus took the throne of Byzantine in 1081 and consolidated control over the remaining
empire as known as Alexius I ( Crusades. ). By 1905, Alexius sent word to Pope Urban II asking for
troops from the West to help face the Turkish threat. Alexius request came at a time when the relations
between Christians from the east and west were improving. By November 1905, the pope had called
on Western Christians to take up arms so they could aid the Byzantines and recapture the Holy Land
from Muslim control ( Crusades ). The response was enormous, people from levels of the military, as
well as ordinary citizens, joined the pilgrimage to take back the Holy Land. Now that the Byzantines

Jerusalem was now weakly protected and the recruits were lacking in number. This caused internal
turmoil for the Crusaders and allowed for Saladin, the ruler of Cairo in 1169, to form a campaign
against the Crusader s Kingdom in Jerusalem. Saladin and his troops set out for the crusaders and
destroyed them at the battle of Hattin and taking the Holy Land as his own. These defeats over the
years and terrible outcomes is what brought on the Third Crusade. This round of fighting was led by
three rulers, Emperor Fredrick Barbarossa, King Phillip II of France, and King Richard I of England
also known as Richard the Lionheart. The only true battle held in this crusade was the Battle of Arsuf
where Richard s men defeated the people of Saladin and reestablished Christian control. A year later,
September 1192, Richard and Saladin signed a treaty where Muslims would stay in control over
Jerusalem but unarmed Christians could enter the city.

Romulus And Remus Research Paper
The Journey of Romulus and Remus Many centuries ago,in the kingdom of Latium there lived a king
named Numitor who was dethroned by his evil brother Amulius who also kidnapped Princess
Silvia(Numitor s daughter) and locked her into the temple of Mars .
Amulius hoped that Princess Silvia wouldn t give birth to any child/ren who could reclaim the
kingdom/throne.However his plan failed as she married Mars(god of war) and gave birth to twins
Romulus and Remus (1717BC). When the evil king Amulius found out he sent his slave to kill the
twins by throwing them into the sea in a cradle at night time while everyone was asleep.
It was dawn, the babies were still afloat. They had already reached the other side of the kingdom where
a female wolf saw them crying. Even though the wolf generally harm humans, her motherly instance

Criticism Of Medea
I cannot find one reason for divorcing theatrics from history why must history wear such a dry cloak
of dullness? I love theatre and you see its profound effects in my writing especially tragedy. History is
dramatized through speeches and conversations among the characters I portray, so much that people
have coined the term tragic history to encapsulate my works, in which I proudly claim ownership.
Euripedes has been thought to be a mediocre playwright but nonetheless determinedly produces more
plays. I have long admired his tenacity in being an innovator amidst a scene that constantly subjects
him to ridicule. With my status as a tragic historian as some may put it, I am in an informed position to
critique this play. My belief is that people accord him with less recognition than he actually deserves,
and I genuinely appreciate the ingenious tragic elements he incorporates to distinguish Medea from
other mainstream tragedies.
As a historian and a Greek citizen, nomos is a concept close to my heart. Before the play, Medea was
portrayed as a ruthless witch renowned for her sorcery and deception. Even though she ... Show more

only mounts her fury towards him, and readers, fully aware of Medea s historical barbarism, are
mentally prepared foreshadowing for Medea s heinous revenge against his treachery (tragic end).
I have observed a fair bit of tragic motives dominating the play that I have incorporated in my own
writings. The motives span revenge, or tisis to tragic warners

The Effects of Gatorade on Athletic Performance
When athletes are training or competing, it is apparent that they sometimes benefit by consuming
various drinks that contain water, carbohydrate and electrolytes. This can assist and improve an athlete
s performance, and it may reduce physiological stress on an athlete s cardiovascular, central nervous
and muscular systems. During endurance events Gatorade is an effective drink to have in order for the
athlete to sustain their maximum energy throughout the competition. Gatorade has been proven to
reduce the risk of hyponatraemia, improve endurance performance if consumed during training or
competition and it allows fast release of fluid to the tissue as well as rapid fluid absorption.
Hyponatraemia is a disorder in fluid electrolyte stability that results in an unusual low plasma sodium
concentration. A continuous decrease in plasma sodium concentration upsets the osmotic balance
across the blood brain barrier, ensuing in an direct entry of water into the brain. This causes brain
swelling and a flow of gradually more severe neurological responses such as confusion, seizure, coma
which can result in death from break of the brainstem. The faster and lower the blood sodium falls, the
greater the risk of life threatening consequences. (Eichner, 2003). Athletes who drink too much water
before and during exercise (high endurance) in warm and humid weather are at a higher risk of
developing hyponatraemia. In addition, bigger athletes are not resistant to hyponatraemia but smaller

Organizational Change Activities
Organizational Change Activities Change activities are healthy for an organization. They keep it up to
date and relevant within the market place. There are a number of reasons as to why organizations need
to change; essentially the organization is in need of a change of because of external factors or a need
for a change within the organizational culture. External evolutions of technological and cultural
factors can all impact the success of an intended organizational change. Still, such change is often
needed to keep an organization healthy. Organizations engage in change activities for a wide number
of reasons. Overall, the main reason is to increase the overall success of the organization, whether it is
the operational flow or the organizational culture itself. Essentially, organizations engage in change
activities to improve the ability of the organization to adapt to changes in the environment and to
change employee behavior (Robbins Judge, 2008, p 412). External factors can cause an organization
to need to revamp its internal strategies. Thus, external factors hold a powerful role in why an
organization would need to change. Additionally, organizational culture can have a place in causing a
need for change within an organization. When how employees act and function fail to meet
organization strategies and objectives, a change is needed in order to intervene and generate a greater
sense of balance between the two. There are a number of factors that impact an

Family Dynamics In The Metamorphosis
The Perils of Family Dynamics as it relates to The Metamorphosis
Pam (Lawson) Beaver
Belhaven University
Family Dynamics The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka represents the selfish views of family. Kafka
transforms Gregory, the son, into a dung beetle to show how members of the family evolve and adjust
due to life changing events. Traditionally, when families overcome hardships, a stronger bond is
formed between the members of the familial unit. In this story, Kafka takes the family on a journey of
life, one day wonderful and the next full of strife. Kafka s view as portrayed in The Metamorphosis is
that family, when faced with difficult change, sometimes transforms from a harmonious unit into its
selfish individual components. The first narcissistic is the parents and the expectation of Gregory to
provide. The first indication of self centeredness is the parents expectation that their son should
provide for the household. When his mother arrives at his bedroom door to remind him he has to go to
work, Gregory tried to get out of bed, realizing something has happened to him. Others in the home
become alarmed that he is not rising as expected, so first his father comes to check on him, then his
sister, who whispers Gregory, open the door, please (Kafka, 2006, p.1968). Kafka reveals the family
dynamics throughout the story and how each individual fits into the entity. Gregory s sister, in the
beginning, is concerned for his well being. However, she relies on him for her everyday needs, so her
self indulgent motives become clear. The mother, on the other hand, is bossy and distant. The father is
overbearing, depressed, and dependent on his son financially. The main concern of the familial body is
getting Gregory out the door and to work so that he can make a paycheck and the individuals can
continue in the roles each has absorbed. The second selfish observance is the way the family reacts
when Gregory becomes a burden, creating more work for them around the house. Even the hired maid
asks on bended knee to be discharged immediately (Kafka, 2006, p. 1979). Kafka is quick to change
the dynamics of the household designating chores and cooking to the mother and daughter, and

A Report On The Solar Farm
Executive Summary
A 20GWh per year solar farm has been designed in this assignment. It is located at Yuma city of
Arizona in the United Sates. Yuma city has 313 days of sunshine and it is very good for solar
electricity generation. The solar farm will be installed at a desert region. There are two reasons, 1.
Reducing the environment impact. 2. Lower cost of land acquisition.
The tilt angle of solar panel strongly affects the electricity generation. To finding the annual maximum
power output, three different angles have been calculated. 32.6° is the best angle for solar electricity
generation in Yuma city. Setting at 32.6°, the solar farm can generate 23,983,400kWh per year from
56,000 solar modules. Furthermore, the solar farm footprint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If the lifetime of solar farm is 25 year, the costs can significantly be cut down to US$4.78 cents in

In order to encourage deployment rate of solar cell, many governments use feed in tariffs (FITs)
program. Due to high initial investment of solar cell, it can shorten the time to reach the break even
point. On the other hand, solar farm regulations in Arizona, it is required permits. The schedule of
requiring permits takes 24 to 34 months and 12 kinds of permit are needed. 1. Design a Solar Farm
1 1. Selection of Geographic Location
According to National Climatic Data Center, the sunniest state is Arizona in the United Sates, which is
193 clear days pre year.(1) Yuma City where in State of Arizona has 313 days of sunshine. This
climatic condition is good for solar power generation. In order to reduce the environment impact, a
desert region is a proper choice. There are two more benefits. The cost of land is much cheaper than
urban area. In addition, there is no any shelter nearby. Nevertheless, solar farms have to be maintained
regularly. If install a solar farm at an isolated location, it will be hard to maintenance. A location of
photovoltaic farm has been chosen as Figure 2. It is situated in a desert region for decreasing the
environment impact and next to a road for maintenance easily. Figure 1. Map of United States(2)

Difference Between Modern And Modern Architecture
Contemporary architecture indicates to the style of today s architecture. Its style is not defined;
because it is constantly changing, plus it choses different styles and eras. On the other hand, Modern
Architecture has defined its style. It describes a specific era design, that it leads to the history of
machination and to the 1920s 1950s styles.
Many people mistaken in defining modern architecture and contemporary architecture, say that both
of them are completely the same. This research paper will show you the comparison between both
modern and contemporary architecture, talking about both characteristics, methods and histories. Both
styles are confusingly used together sometimes; because modern architecture styles and characteristics

To What Extent Is Lady Macbeth A Tragic Hero
A tragic hero is a character who does wrong for their benefit, but leads in a great downfall. There are
many tragic heroes in famous literature all over the world. These tragic heroes show their flaws
leading to a tragedy. In the play Macbeth written by William Shakespeare, the main character Macbeth
is a tragic hero because of his wife, Lady Macbeth manipulating him and desire to become king.
Macbeth s selfish actions led to his tragic death. In the beginning of the play both Macbeth and Lady
Macbeth are good people who were honorable to their country, Scotland. Macbeth was a true warrior
that fought for King Duncan. Lady Macbeth was a lovable innocent woman that supported her
husband. After Macbeth hears the prophecies from the witches he becomes curious about being King
of Scotland. It is his wife, Lady Macbeth who sparks the idea of killing King Duncan. Lady Macbeth

Duncan did not look similar to Lady Macbeth s father she would have killed him herself. Lady

plan. Lady Macbeth knows Macbeth weakness and how to use it against. She ... Show more content

Assisted Suicide Debate Analysis
As the political debates are in full action, I am certainly aware of the discussion of controversial
topics. Although assisted suicide is not among the topics, however I do understand the difficulties of
addressing sensitive topics. The following assignment is a reflection on Helping a Suicide When the
End Isn t Near. First, I ll introduce the debaters as well as their background and position on this
controversial topic. Next, I will address my view and rationale pertaining to the topic.
An opinionated article, Helping a Suicide When the End Isn t Near, published by the New York Times
includes segments from both Mark Kleiman and Ira Byock who share their opinions on whether or not
assisted suicide should be legal in the United States. Kleiman, who insist that laws prohibiting assisted
suicide must be erased, is a professor of public policy at New York University s Marron Institute of
Urban Management, whereas Byock, who is completely opposed to any law change, is a professor of
medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. Kleiman and Byock have
compelling, but opposing viewpoints on this controversial subject, and each rule the other to be highly
unethical.

however, if put on a spectrum, I lean more towards the support of assisted suicide. I believe if the
patient is competent as well as the one who has requested to take this course of action, it certainly can
be justified. In addition, I personally believe in quality of life, not longevity. There are many incurable

My most important take away from studying the four religions this semester about building a life of
meaning, purpose, and fulfilment is self identification. In order to live a life of meaning, purpose, and
fulfilment, the individual must be able to realize who they are as a person and only then is when an
individual start to realize how they can live a life of meaning, purpose, and fulfilment. Being able to
discover what brings you happiness, knowing your strengths and talents, and finding the unmet needs
of individuals around you guides an individual to self identification. If an individual is able to
understand what brings them happiness, it leads to a life of meaning because you have something to
look forward to. It brings a life of purpose because then you understand what your purpose is through
what makes you happy and by living a life of meaning and purpose leads a life of fulfillment. My gold
nugget can enhance my efforts to build a life of meaning, purpose, and fulfillment because as I keep
figuring out who I am as a person, what makes me happy, my strengths and talents, and helping others
it will lead me to understand what my purpose is. Once I know what my purpose is, then I can live a

The story of bioremediation and its recent development as an oil spill response technology provides an
interesting example of how a new environmental technology comes into being. Based on the U.S.
experience (highly influenced by the Exxon Valdez oil spill), the history of bioremediation in spill
response can be divided into three development periods (after Hoff, 1993): the courtship period until
1989, the honeymoon period from 1989 until 1991, and the establishment period since 1992.
1. Courtship Period (pre 1989)
The first courtship period was primarily a research period, when bioremediation was little known
outside the microbiology or hazardous waste community. Many published articles from the 1970s and
earlier documented the process of microbial degradation of oil, both in the laboratory and in field
trials. A number of scientific papers on this topic were published during the 1970s and 1980s,
including several review papers covering mechanisms of biodegradation, and papers presenting results
from controlled field experiments measuring degradation rates in various environments. Several
studies following major oil spills like the Amoco Cadiz measured oil degradation in the environment
and confirmed previously published results from laboratory studies (Hoff, 1993). These works
established a basic understanding of biodegradation of oil as an important component of the process

The business of restoration would be on a project basis. RASAS would initiate the process of
restoration only on request. The proposed car restorations can be divided into three categories. Basic
restorations involve getting the car up and running while a mint condition restoration transforms the
car to its original form. A customized restoration includes anything that goes beyond the original form.
RASAS envisions working with customers to achieve any kind of restoration they choose. RASAS
will also work with customers to provide or acquire parts needed for do it yourself restorations.
(Ritzman et al, 2007).
As RASAS is required to procure parts for restoration, these parts could be ordered in bulk, stocked up
and used to sell to customers who only require parts. A benefit of holding inventory is that it could
help reduce time for procurement of parts. However, this aspect has to be checked in terms of the
amount of inventory RASAS is capable of holding.
The cost and time factor analysis would purely depend on the nature of the project. It could vary from
just a basic restoration to mint condition restoration.
(Question 2)
RASAS s parts manager, body shop manager, and chief mechanic have provided estimates of the time
and cost associated with the activities required for the mint condition restoration of the Avanti. Figures
1 and 2 (Appendix) summarize the activities, time estimates and precedent relationships.

Essay about Sound Localization and Hearing Protection Devices
Introduction A hearing protection device (HPD) is often used as a protective measure in a workplace
environment when the sound levels of that environment cannot be decreased and such levels pose a
threat to the hearing of workers. An HPD is a safety device worn by individual s to protect his or her
hearing from the harmful effects of sound (Berger, 2003). A variety of occupational environments are
known to produce high levels of noise, including factories and military operations. Individuals
employed in these professions may be required to wear HPDs to reduce the risk of noise induced
hearing loss. However, certain situations in these work environments require the listener to also be
able to hear low level sounds for safety reasons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The three main styles of HPDs are earplugs, earmuffs, and semi aural devices. Special protectors, such
as level dependent hearing protectors, are less commonly used but also have an effect on sound
localization. Earplugs are placed into the ear canal in order to block the entrance of sound by forming
a hermetic seal. Earplugs are better suited for longer use for those individuals who are exposed to
noise throughout their workday, and provide a significant amount of attenuation. However, the
effectiveness of the earplugs depends on proper insertion, and requires training employees on how to
correctly place them in the canal. The level of attenuation can vary depending on how well the earplug
is fit, as well as the motivation of the employee to wear them consistently (Berger, 2003). Earmuffs,
on the other hand, cover the entire outer ear and provide an air tight seal against the head in order to
block the entrance of sound. Earmuffs are preferred for individuals who are not exposed to a
consistent level of noise throughout the day. Rather, they are better suited for shorter periods of high
level noise during the workday. Due to the size and location on the head, they also may not be
beneficial for employees that must work in smaller, more confined spaces. However, the level of
attenuation is more consistent than earplugs, as the employees do not require extensive training on the
use of earmuffs as they are generally one sized devices (Berger, 2003).

Comparing J. R. Simplot And Why The Fries Taste Good
I want to start out by summarizing both stories real quick. Why The Fries Taste Good is a short
biography of J.R Simplot, a man who created his own potato growing business and became a
billionaire. Eat local organic food if you like, but don t kid yourself that it s green is a story about a
man who is trying to inform those that just because you shop in a farmers market, you aren t helping
save the planet, but you re actually doing the opposite of helping. Both stories talk about food and
both involve growing food, but the general idea of each story differs from each other. The first story is
telling you the life story of Simplot, and the second is telling you why one thing is bad over the other.
I do believe that each story differs in telling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason I think this is because while reading the story, I noticed that Delingpole always had a
source to go with his statistic. For example, he quotes a study, saying as Matt Ridley records in his
The Rational Optimist A New Zealand lamb requires as quarter as much energy to get on to a London
plate as a Welsh one. This makes me think that there is reasonable research that has been done, and
that I could believe it. This isn t the only source either, he goes on to back a lot of other claims too. It
is a different story when it comes to Why the Fries Taste Good . There are little to no sources in the
story. The only quote Schlosser has is when he quoted Harvey Levenstein. There are statistics in the
story but have no credit to them, such as in 1960, the typical American ate eighty one pounds of fresh
potatoes and about four pounds of frozen french fries. The other time is when Simplot was asked
about his success. I mention this because where is the source for this information? Schlosser could
have easily made this information up, how do I know it s

Trade Embargo Dbq
From 1790s to the early 1800s, the United States resisted going to war and tried desperately to
maintain peace and freedom in the seas. However, this mission was impossible to do because of the
ongoing war between France and Great Britain, which were both guilty of blocking American
shipments to prevent from docking in enemy ports. President Thomas Jefferson passed the 1807 Trade
Embargo Act. History books often dismiss the Trade Embargo as a complete failure: it did not
influence France or Great Britain and only the Americans suffered the most, making it a disaster for
the United States (Remini 75) and a political and economic nightmare for Jefferson (Olson and
Mendoza 188). However, in two separate articles, Frankel and Irwin demonstrated, ... Show more

Britain was becoming more and more aggressive in blocking ships by neutral countries, especially by
the United States. The British army was constantly patrolling the eastern U.S. coast and intercepted
American vessels, conducted searches, and confiscated cargo, properties, and even ships and sailors
on a regular basis. In line with this, Jefferson only had two choices: to wage war against Britain and
force it to respect American shipping or to implement an embargo to safeguard American ships and
properties and inflict economic penalty against Britain (Irwin 632). It was an easy choice. Simply
waging a war was the last thing that the U.S. government would have done during this time. In its
earliest years, the United States had always been elusive to go to war. Likewise, in comparing these
two choices, implementing an embargo was the better choice. Declaring war against the Great Britain
could have brought much greater damage to the United States than what the embargo had caused.
Thus, evading a war against the Great Britain during this period should be considered as among the
positive impacts of the Trade Embargo of

Changes In Chemotherapy
What do you think are the most important changes in chemotherapeutic management of microbial
disease?
Chemotherapy, is the treatment of diseases by chemical agents. Chemotherapeutic drugs commonly
include anticancer drugs. The way the drug are used vary, some may affect the wall of the bacteria,
and cell membranes. In some instances they even alter the molecular mechanism for duplication,
change nucleic acid metabolism, and even change interaction between two interacting organisms.
Chemotherapy in cancer is an important aspect of drug treatment. Alkylating agents which work by
impairing cell division and antimetabolites which interfere with enzymes while blocking vital cell
processes are used to treat malignant cells but have serious setbacks.

Nietzsche s Philosophy On The Priestly Figure
Friedrich Nietzsche puts forth the image of the priestly figure in what seems to be a positive and
negative manner. Priests are the greatest haters in the world but they are also the most intelligent
(p.17). Nietzsche s position, according to me, seems ambivalent due to the context in which he refers
to them is altering. There is no clear light in which the priestly figure is shown to be inherently
positive or negative. In this paper, I will bring in his claims, explicate Nietzsche s standpoint on the
priestly figure and how they are ambiguous as they are not thoroughly positive or negative. To begin
with, Nietzsche was a relentless critic of morality and questioned the concept of good and bad.
Similarly, he proposed a question on whether the self is an affirmation of good or negation of evil. He
establishes that good/evil and good/bad come from two distinct origins, where the two good s
radically oppose each other. For Nietzsche, this is what seems like the slave morality, which says that
evil equates to what is good and the master morality that equates bad to good. Slave morality proposes
that if you are evil then I am good while the master morality says if I am good, then you bad. This is
essentially who the priest is. They are those who feel powerless in situations where there is physical
power present. A venomous hatred is then manifested for the powerful as they are supposed to be
spiritually powerful people. This also lies in ressentiment of the weak that

POP ART: Promoting Capitalism Through its Social Movement Viewpoint
Pop Art is portrayed by procedures and topics drawn from mainstream mass culture like comic books,
promotions, and ordinary social articles. This movement is broadly deciphered as a response to the
thoughts of unique expressionism. Pop Art proposed to utilize pictures of prominent rather than elitist
culture in workmanship, accentuating the commonplace components of any given culture, as a rule
using incongruity. This paper analyzes the socially and stylishly subversive character of the
development that changed American art and culture in the 1960s. Giving a generally contextualized
perusing of American pop craftsmanship, this paper finds the development inside the bigger system
more of the social rather than political changes of that decade. What was truly in question, this paper
contends that pop art seeks to instil with good intention that through such social movement elevates
the bleak reality of capitalism.
Pop art is a craftsmanship development that rose in the 1950s and prospered in the 1960s, taking
motivation from sources in prominent and business culture, for example, publicizing, Hollywood
motion pictures and popular music ( Pop Art Around the World ).
It started as a rebel against the overwhelming ways to deal with craftsmanship and culture and
conventional perspectives on what art could (and should) be. Drawing on well known symbolism and

The order of a single book is a function of its written discourse, but the order of a group of books is
greater than the sum of their texts. (The Map of Art History, 30). By his statement he meant that books

Benefits Of Same Sex Education
Is same sex education more beneficial? In 2006, only about four percent of the freshman class of
Chicago s Urban Prep Academy was able to read at grade level. But, in May of 2011, one hundred
percent of the senior class had been accepted to four year colleges/universities, many receiving full
scholarships. (Novotney, 2011) This was the first all male public charter high school in the United
States. The fact that this school was same sex education is the main factor that brought one hundred
percent of these seniors success. In today s society, there is usually no distinction between same sex
education and co education. However, there is a distinction. This distinction is that same sex education
is more beneficial to students. Society today does not realise this, even though there are many factors
that prove it. One main difference is that same sex schools are usually private schools while co
education schools are usually public schools. Parents in society today differentiate the schools by if
they would prefer to pay for the education (private same sex schools) versus not paying (co education
public schools). However, there is a difference. This difference is the fact that same sex education
schools are more beneficial for students. Despite this fact, the costs of private schools still prevent
parents from sending their children to these schools. Another issue that arises is that the decision of

Benefits Of Absentee Voting
Absentee Ballot Absentee ballots became big in the 2016 presidential election. There were nearly
78,000 returning ballots for the state of South Carolina in the Republican and Democratic parties.
These numbers were double the numbers of the 2008 elections, which was also marked as a record
high turnout. Absentee ballots are used by an immense number of Americans in our society today. The
absentee ballot process is quick and easy and benefits everyone who is eligible for the ballot.
Continuing this, an absentee ballot, as said in class, is a ballot that is mailed to voters who are unable
to attend the polls. The absentee ballot process gives people who are unable to present themselves at

The Importance Of The Subway System
In New York City, the subway system has played an integral role in taking New Yorkers across the city
in minutes. With high speed metallic trains barreling through tubes and tunnels, approximately 8
million New Yorkers ride the subway everyday and rely on it to get to where they need; whether it be
work, school, or meeting with others. However in recent events the fare to ride the trains or buses have
skyrocketed from the five cents in 1904 to two dollars and seventy five cents in this day and age.
While this of course correlates to inflation, it proves to be yet another annoyance to New Yorkers who
had already paid two dollars and fifty cents before in 2015. While this improves quality of subway
travel, trains, and employee service and numbers; it is also more money out of the pockets of many
already financially unstable New Yorkers.
The improvement of overall subway quality has improved by tenfold in the recent decades. In 1904,
when the subway companies: IRT, IND, and BMT were integrated into New York City, the trains
slowly decayed into hunks of rusted metal and slow moving contraptions of poor travel. Hardly any
trains ran into multiple boroughs, only select few trains travelled across bridges as each company
operated their own trains within their own borough. In order to completely overhaul the subway
system, the companies slowly began increasing metro fare. In 1965, an agreement was reached to
unify all companies and create the Metropolitan Transit Authority, the

This is not to say that after finding the connection our analysis is done, but it actually goes beyond

Figurative Language In Prophetic Literature

Marriage Essay
Marriage
What does marriage mean? By definition, marriage is the legal union of a man and a woman as
husband and wife (Webster s Dictionary). Most people claim that they want their marriage to last a
lifetime. Because over half of all marriages in the United States end in a divorce, most people lack the
understanding of what it takes to stay married. I believe that couples should become more aware of the
commitment that they are making when they enter into marriage.
Men and women should get to know one another completely before deciding to get married. Important
issues such as religion, finances, career, and whether or not to have children should be discussed so

Why did they not discuss this issue before they got married or did they think the other one would
change after saying their wedding vows? Marriage is not about changing someone; instead, it is about
loving your partner for his or her beliefs.
Rather than giving up and ending the marriage, many couples could save the marriage by trying to
work through the problems that arise. Many people do not realize how much hard work has to be put
into a marriage for it to be successful. When planning a wedding, some couples spend a lot of time
preparing the vows that will be exchanged during the ceremony, but sadly the partners fail to live by
the vows day after day. Scores of married couples drift apart because their hectic lives do not allow
them to spend enough quality time together, which is important for a healthy marriage.
Communication is also an essential factor in working through problems in a marriage.
Entering into marriage for the wrong reason usually leads to divorce. Sometimes an individual will
say that he or she married for money, or he or she may claim to have married for love. Many times,
lust is mistaken for love; consequently, when the passion ends so does the marriage. Some people
choose to marry wealthy people solely to gain financial security, but eventually they will find that
money does not lead to happiness. Others enter into marriage believing that it is a cure all that will

thought to himself about what he should do, should I go home and face the consequences, or stay and
possibly face even more trouble. So he decided to stay and just see what happens. For the duration of
the party John stayed inside with some of the other kids and snacked on some of the apitizers Now it

Essay On 60 Minute Overtime
After reviewing two shows broadcasted on television (NBC News and a television series called 60
Minute Overtime), a newspaper article from Daily News, and two articles online that focus on the
Challengers story, I believe the shows broadcasted on television are the most reliable. The newspaper
article was very reliable especially since it was published the day after the explosion. It had a lot of the
emotions felt during that time period. Unfortunately, the newspaper was not able to provide a definite
answer as to why the crash was caused because the cause was not for sure then. This Day in History:
Challenger Space Shuttle Explosion Kills Seven is a reliable article that provides just enough
information to understand the story, but not the resolution. Anyone ... Show more content on

Both articles are reliable but do not help the readers understand how much this affected America. The
two shows broadcasted on television proved to be the most reliable. The National Broadcasting
Company is a news corporation, and on the day of the Challenger they aired it live. As a lot of
America was watching live, so was the news reporter (Kent Shocknek) and the voice of the launch
control (Hugh Harris). Both of their reactions were how they reacted live. The viewers then and now
see the crisis happen with their own eyes and can feel the emotion that was felt. NBC is one of the
most reliable sources because it only gave facts, and it came from the day of the Challenger mission.
60 Minute Overtime is a television show that focused an episode on the Challenger mission. This
episode brought people that were very close to this mission. For example Christa McAuliffe s mom.
The people brought in were interviewed about the subject. This episode was a whole sixty minutes
focusing on facts and emotions about the Challenger. This is very reliable because not only do the
listeners learn about what happened that day, but they can hear about the emotions felt and the
opinions of the ones

Frozen Sexual Identity
Sexual Identity Paper There are many concerns with how sexuality should be shown to children. There
are rumors to say that Elsa, the main character in the movie Frozen, will appear in the sequel with a
girlfriend. Now, this movie is primarily made for young children viewers, but is this the correct notion
of expressing a character s sexuality? Should children even be exposed to different types of expressing
their sexuality? Many parents could disagree that showing same sex relationship can interfere
negatively in children s lives. While indeed, there are other important factors that do go into an
individual s sexuality such as culture, media, friends and family. How each person views themselves
can be influenced by multiple factors. As more and more people begin to become more open about
their sexuality, how we were raised still affects how we see other people. For example, a child being
raised in a traditional, Christian home can infer that every couple there should be a woman and a man,
nothing other than that. When thinking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men are to be the fixer and women to be the nurturing one. How one expresses themselves can be
totally up to their surroundings. As girls, stereotypically, were raised to use Barbie s and play with
kitchen toys. But perhaps by having by having many male siblings, their preference in toys can also
include cars and trucks, in addition another stereotype. Parenting plays a large role in how children
grow and either stay the same or question their role. It is a never ending cycle called The Cycle of
Socialization (Adams, Bell Griffin, 1997). We are first born with no questions or assumptions about
anything. Then we are exposed to institutions that shape the way we see things, such as churches,
schools, and television. In final, it is how we react to these findings, it is up to us if we want to change

The Play Of The Diary Of Anne Frank Analysis
Hiding in the holocaust was a horrible thing. If you had too, do you think you would survive?
Although it was horrific, one Jewish girl, Anne Frank said, In spite of everything, I still believe people
are really good at heart. Anne never lost hope. She never just looked at the negative in all things. She
thought that if someone was bad they could always change, and she was right. After reading The Play
of the Diary of Anne Frank I have come to the conclusion that I agree with Anne s quote. The biggest
reason I agree with Anne s quote is what Peter did. Even though I think this, there are some people
who do not agree with this quote. I think some people would disagree because of what selfish thing
Mr. Van Daan did with his wife s coat for himself.
There were a lot of other things in The Play of the Diary of Anne Frank, but there was one that got me
convended right when I saw. It was a big act of kindness coming from Peter. On page 114 115 this
dialogue happened:
Anne: This isn t true. You re much better than I am in dozens of things arithmetic and algebra and ...
Well, you re a million time better than I am in algebra. (With sudden directness.) You like Margot, don
t you? Right from the start you likes her, liked her much better than me.
Peter: (uncomfortably) Oh, I don t know.
Anne: It s all right. Everyone feels that way. Margot s so good. She s sweet and bright and beautiful,
and I m not.
Peter: I wouldn t say that.
Anne: Oh, no, I m not. I know that. I know quite well

My Memory Research Paper
We are bound to this body and life has to have a meaning. I guess memories are those meanings. Little
tiny flashes of pictures in continuous motion and our incredible brain storing it all inside. We all have
memories we could never forget whether it was a painful one or a really ecstatic one. A memory I
could never forget was the night I came to Alaska. It filled me with joy as soon as I came off the
airplane. It was right before Christmas, coming down the stairs I inhaled the crisp Alaskan air. As we
stood, waiting outside of the airport, it was immediately apparent to me that Alaska was not the same
as California. It seemed like everyone here wasn t in a hurry to get to another place. The loud and
constant sound of cars honking was not

One Child Policy Dbq
The one child policy was established in China in 1979 because the population was growing extremely
fast. The one child policy is a law that prevents families from having more than one child. It only
applies to the Han Chinese ethnic group, which makes up 90% of the Chinese population. Sibling less
parents are allowed to have two children. Some Chinese people are in favor of the one child policy
(OCP) because their lives were made easier. Other people felt it was not fair to have their rights taken
away. I think that the OCP was not a good idea because there s not enough information to support that
it was a good idea. The intention of the OCP was to lower the fertility rate in China and prevent
overpopulation. The OCP did lower the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those are still good jobs but they could have better jobs like CEOs or presidents of a company, but
those jobs are usually given to men. The article makes it sound so great but if you read in between the
lines you notice how there is some discrimination, for a person to learn multiple languages they should
have a more important job than a secretary.
People s view on the OCP is biased based on their experience. Document F tells the story of 2 kids
that were born under the OCP. One, which was a boy from a rural area, who loved the OCP, the other
was a girl who lived in an urban area and didn t like it at all. The girl said that all the pressure was on
her to be the best and she wanted a sibling to share the pressure with. On the other hand, the boy said
that if you have siblings your parents would not give you the most they could give you. He said
everyone would be average because you would be lacking emotional and financial support. Your
parents would have to share whatever they could offer with all their children. I think that is a biased
thought because very successful people like Bill Gates, Yao Ming, and Jackie Chan all had siblings
and still did good in life. Both the boy and the girl are only thinking on how it affects them and not the
future of the country. All in all, I don t think that the one child policy was a good idea. People should
be able to have as many kids as they want or no kids at all. The one child policy wasn t

The Merger of Allianz Group and Dresdner Bank
1. Introduction In our days mergers and acquisitions are a predominant feature of the international
business system as companies attempt to exploit new market opportunities and to strengthen their
market positions. Each year sets a new record for the total value of mergers and acquisitions and
nearly every day new announcements are made in the business newspapers. In the literature one finds
a large number of explanations for the occurrence of mergers and acquisitions. Sometimes, these
explana tions are also applicable to related forms of interindustrial links such as joint ventures or
strategic alliances. Therefore it is necessary to define the term merger and acquisition as it will be used
throughout this seminar paper.

Conglomerate and vertical mergers help to strengthen the market power by discouraging potential
entrants. The monopoly theory played a dominant role in the past, especially in the first great merger
wave in the U.S. between 1887 and 1904. Today most of the horizontal mergers are too small to confer
monopoly power, because larger acqui sitions fall under intense antitrust scrutiny. In the industrial
strategy and organization literature mergers are often explained in terms of synergies and/or
efficiencies. The efficiency theory is based on the assumption that the combined firms are more
profitable than the companies operating separately because of the operational, managerial and
financial synergies. Operational synergies include economies of scale, economies of scope and
economies of experience. The valuation or information theory explains a merger from a financial
instead of a strategic perspective and assumes that the current market price of a company does not
reflect the true value. The company which buys an undervalued firm believes it can manage the target
company better than the current management. Corporate buying and selling activities are traced back
to the conditions of financial markets. Presently globalization is the key feature of the new
competitive landscape within which mergers are taking place. However, it is impor tant to keep in
mind that globalization is a trend and not an already exis ting condition. Globalization is not spreading

  • 2. Search For Identity In Surfacing, By Margaret Atwood In this situation the question of an authentic Canadian voice has troubled many Canadian writers. At the same time the regional consciousness in Canada began to give rise to a national consciousness which further broadened into an international or universal consciousness. This awakened conscience led to the writers showing a preoccupation with quest themes, search for identity and self definition which turned out to be search for inner space. This phenomenon appears in the fiction of Margaret Atwood. Conversely, in the canon of postcolonial writers, Atwood is a troublesome figure. Despite her notable search for an understanding of Canada that is not first mediated by an English or American aesthetic. Atwood s novels are examined in a cultural context in ... The major theme of the novel Search for identity , like national identity, identity of selfhood and identity of womanhood, for the protagonist has become difficult because of her role as a victim of colonial forces. She has been colonized by men in the patriarchal society in which she grew up. Initially, the narrator of the story returns to the undeveloped island that she grew up on to search for her missing father in that process she unmasks the inconsistencies in both her personal life and her patriarchal society. The unnamed narrator of Surfacing comes back to her home in Northern Quebec after a gap of nine years in search of her father, who is reported missing mysteriously. The protagonist is working as a commercial artist. The reason for the deliberate separation from her parents is that the narrator was in love with her teacher, who exploited her innocence. Against her wishes, he got the pregnancy terminated. Unable to cope with this painful reality she gave her parents a different version. She wrote a postcard and informed them that she was married, had a child and lost him to the husband whom she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Traditionalist are the highest engaged individuals than all generations within the workforce at 41% engagement levels. However, the workforce includes a total of five generations (Gallup Inc., 2013). Baby Boomers poses strong work ethics and loyalty to organizations, they usually do not switch careers (Hoole Bonnema, 2015). They rather develop greater commitment and leadership skills (Hoole Bonnema, 2015). • 4. What Are The Consequences Of The Crusades Before the Crusades began, in the 11th century, Western Europe had emerged with great power, while Mediterranean civilizations were being invaded by Seljuk Turks. After years of war, the general Alexius Comnenus took the throne of Byzantine in 1081 and consolidated control over the remaining empire as known as Alexius I ( Crusades. ). By 1905, Alexius sent word to Pope Urban II asking for troops from the West to help face the Turkish threat. Alexius request came at a time when the relations between Christians from the east and west were improving. By November 1905, the pope had called on Western Christians to take up arms so they could aid the Byzantines and recapture the Holy Land from Muslim control ( Crusades ). The response was enormous, people from levels of the military, as well as ordinary citizens, joined the pilgrimage to take back the Holy Land. Now that the Byzantines and the ... This caused internal turmoil for the Crusaders and allowed for Saladin, the ruler of Cairo in 1169, to form a campaign against the Crusader s Kingdom in Jerusalem. Saladin and his troops set out for the crusaders and destroyed them at the battle of Hattin and taking the Holy Land as his own. These defeats over the years and terrible outcomes is what brought on the Third Crusade. This round of fighting was led by three rulers, Emperor Fredrick Barbarossa, King Phillip II of France, and King Richard I of England also known as Richard the Lionheart. The only true battle held in this crusade was the Battle of Arsuf where Richard s men defeated the people of Saladin and reestablished Christian control. • 6. Criticism Of Medea I cannot find one reason for divorcing theatrics from history why must history wear such a dry cloak of dullness? I love theatre and you see its profound effects in my writing especially tragedy. History is dramatized through speeches and conversations among the characters I portray, so much that people have coined the term tragic history to encapsulate my works, in which I proudly claim ownership. Euripedes has been thought to be a mediocre playwright but nonetheless determinedly produces more plays. I have long admired his tenacity in being an innovator amidst a scene that constantly subjects him to ridicule. With my status as a tragic historian as some may put it, I am in an informed position to critique this play. My belief is that people accord him with less recognition than he actually deserves, and I genuinely appreciate the ingenious tragic elements he incorporates to distinguish Medea from other mainstream tragedies. As a historian and a Greek citizen, nomos is a concept close to my heart. Before the play, Medea was portrayed as a ruthless witch renowned for her sorcery and deception. Even though she ... This only mounts her fury towards him, and readers, fully aware of Medea s historical barbarism, are mentally prepared foreshadowing for Medea s heinous revenge against his treachery (tragic end). • 7. The Effects of Gatorade on Athletic Performance When athletes are training or competing, it is apparent that they sometimes benefit by consuming various drinks that contain water, carbohydrate and electrolytes. This can assist and improve an athlete s performance, and it may reduce physiological stress on an athlete s cardiovascular, central nervous and muscular systems. During endurance events Gatorade is an effective drink to have in order for the athlete to sustain their maximum energy throughout the competition. Gatorade has been proven to reduce the risk of hyponatraemia, improve endurance performance if consumed during training or competition and it allows fast release of fluid to the tissue as well as rapid fluid absorption. Hyponatraemia is a disorder in fluid electrolyte stability that results in an unusual low plasma sodium concentration. A continuous decrease in plasma sodium concentration upsets the osmotic balance across the blood brain barrier, ensuing in an direct entry of water into the brain. This causes brain swelling and a flow of gradually more severe neurological responses such as confusion, seizure, coma which can result in death from break of the brainstem. The faster and lower the blood sodium falls, the greater the risk of life threatening consequences. (Eichner, 2003). • 9. Family Dynamics In The Metamorphosis The Perils of Family Dynamics as it relates to The Metamorphosis Pam (Lawson) Beaver Belhaven University Family Dynamics The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka represents the selfish views of family. Kafka transforms Gregory, the son, into a dung beetle to show how members of the family evolve and adjust due to life changing events. Traditionally, when families overcome hardships, a stronger bond is formed between the members of the familial unit. In this story, Kafka takes the family on a journey of life, one day wonderful and the next full of strife. Kafka s view as portrayed in The Metamorphosis is that family, when faced with difficult change, sometimes transforms from a harmonious unit into its selfish individual components. The first narcissistic is the parents and the expectation of Gregory to provide. The first indication of self centeredness is the parents expectation that their son should provide for the household. When his mother arrives at his bedroom door to remind him he has to go to work, Gregory tried to get out of bed, realizing something has happened to him. Others in the home become alarmed that he is not rising as expected, so first his father comes to check on him, then his sister, who whispers Gregory, open the door, please (Kafka, 2006, p.1968). Kafka reveals the family dynamics throughout the story and how each individual fits into the entity. Gregory s sister, in the beginning, is concerned for his well being. However, she relies on him for her everyday needs, so her self indulgent motives become clear. The mother, on the other hand, is bossy and distant. The father is overbearing, depressed, and dependent on his son financially. The main concern of the familial body is getting Gregory out the door and to work so that he can make a paycheck and the individuals can continue in the roles each has absorbed. The second selfish observance is the way the family reacts when Gregory becomes a burden, creating more work for them around the house. Even the hired maid asks on bended knee to be discharged immediately (Kafka, 2006, p. 1979). Kafka is quick to change the dynamics of the household designating chores and cooking to the mother and daughter, and assigning the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this style, the lines are either straight or angles but definitely not curved. In order to live a life of meaning, purpose, and fulfilment, the individual must be able to realize who they are as a person and only then is when an individual start to realize how they can live a life of meaning, purpose, and fulfilment. Being able to discover what brings you happiness, knowing your strengths and talents, and finding the unmet needs of individuals around you guides an individual to self identification. If an individual is able to understand what brings them happiness, it leads to a life of meaning because you have something to look forward to. It brings a life of purpose because then you understand what your purpose is through what makes you happy and by living a life of meaning and purpose leads a life of fulfillment. My gold nugget can enhance my efforts to build a life of meaning, purpose, and fulfillment because as I keep figuring out who I am as a person, what makes me happy, my strengths and talents, and helping others it will lead me to understand what my purpose is. The story of bioremediation and its recent development as an oil spill response technology provides an interesting example of how a new environmental technology comes into being. Based on the U.S. experience (highly influenced by the Exxon Valdez oil spill), the history of bioremediation in spill response can be divided into three development periods (after Hoff, 1993): the courtship period until 1989, the honeymoon period from 1989 until 1991, and the establishment period since 1992. 1. Courtship Period (pre 1989) The first courtship period was primarily a research period, when bioremediation was little known outside the microbiology or hazardous waste community. Many published articles from the 1970s and earlier documented the process of microbial degradation of oil, both in the laboratory and in field trials. A number of scientific papers on this topic were published during the 1970s and 1980s, including several review papers covering mechanisms of biodegradation, and papers presenting results from controlled field experiments measuring degradation rates in various environments. Several studies following major oil spills like the Amoco Cadiz measured oil degradation in the environment and confirmed previously published results from laboratory studies (Hoff, 1993). These works established a basic understanding of biodegradation of oil as an important component of the process known as

The proposed car restorations can be divided into three categories. A customized restoration includes anything that goes beyond the original form. RASAS envisions working with customers to achieve any kind of restoration they choose. RASAS will also work with customers to provide or acquire parts needed for do it yourself restorations. (Ritzman et al, 2007). As RASAS is required to procure parts for restoration, these parts could be ordered in bulk, stocked up and used to sell to customers who only require parts. A benefit of holding inventory is that it could help reduce time for procurement of parts. However, this aspect has to be checked in terms of the amount of inventory RASAS is capable of holding. The cost and time factor analysis would purely depend on the nature of the project. It could vary from just a basic restoration to mint condition restoration. (Question 2) RASAS s parts manager, body shop manager, and chief mechanic have provided estimates of the time and cost associated with the activities required for the mint condition restoration of the Avanti. • 18. Essay about Sound Localization and Hearing Protection Devices Introduction A hearing protection device (HPD) is often used as a protective measure in a workplace environment when the sound levels of that environment cannot be decreased and such levels pose a threat to the hearing of workers. An HPD is a safety device worn by individual s to protect his or her hearing from the harmful effects of sound (Berger, 2003). A variety of occupational environments are known to produce high levels of noise, including factories and military operations. Individuals employed in these professions may be required to wear HPDs to reduce the risk of noise induced hearing loss. However, certain situations in these work environments require the listener to also be able to hear low level sounds for safety reasons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The three main styles of HPDs are earplugs, earmuffs, and semi aural devices. Special protectors, such as level dependent hearing protectors, are less commonly used but also have an effect on sound localization. Earplugs are placed into the ear canal in order to block the entrance of sound by forming a hermetic seal. Earplugs are better suited for longer use for those individuals who are exposed to noise throughout their workday, and provide a significant amount of attenuation. However, the effectiveness of the earplugs depends on proper insertion, and requires training employees on how to correctly place them in the canal. The level of attenuation can vary depending on how well the earplug is fit, as well as the motivation of the employee to wear them consistently (Berger, 2003). Earmuffs, on the other hand, cover the entire outer ear and provide an air tight seal against the head in order to block the entrance of sound. Earmuffs are preferred for individuals who are not exposed to a consistent level of noise throughout the day. Rather, they are better suited for shorter periods of high level noise during the workday. Due to the size and location on the head, they also may not be beneficial for employees that must work in smaller, more confined spaces. However, the level of attenuation is more consistent than earplugs, as the employees do not require extensive training on the use of earmuffs as they are generally one sized devices (Berger, 2003). ... However, this mission was impossible to do because of the ongoing war between France and Great Britain, which were both guilty of blocking American shipments to prevent from docking in enemy ports. President Thomas Jefferson passed the 1807 Trade Embargo Act. History books often dismiss the Trade Embargo as a complete failure: it did not influence France or Great Britain and only the Americans suffered the most, making it a disaster for the United States (Remini 75) and a political and economic nightmare for Jefferson (Olson and Mendoza 188). Britain was becoming more and more aggressive in blocking ships by neutral countries, especially by the United States. The British army was constantly patrolling the eastern U.S. coast and intercepted American vessels, conducted searches, and confiscated cargo, properties, and even ships and sailors on a regular basis. In line with this, Jefferson only had two choices: to wage war against Britain and force it to respect American shipping or to implement an embargo to safeguard American ships and properties and inflict economic penalty against Britain (Irwin 632). It was an easy choice. Simply waging a war was the last thing that the U.S. government would have done during this time. In its earliest years, the United States had always been elusive to go to war. Likewise, in comparing these two choices, implementing an embargo was the better choice. Priests are the greatest haters in the world but they are also the most intelligent (p.17). Nietzsche s position, according to me, seems ambivalent due to the context in which he refers to them is altering. There is no clear light in which the priestly figure is shown to be inherently positive or negative. In this paper, I will bring in his claims, explicate Nietzsche s standpoint on the priestly figure and how they are ambiguous as they are not thoroughly positive or negative. To begin with, Nietzsche was a relentless critic of morality and questioned the concept of good and bad. Similarly, he proposed a question on whether the self is an affirmation of good or negation of evil. He establishes that good/evil and good/bad come from two distinct origins, where the two good s radically oppose each other. For Nietzsche, this is what seems like the slave morality, which says that evil equates to what is good and the master morality that equates bad to good. Slave morality proposes that if you are evil then I am good while the master morality says if I am good, then you bad. This is essentially who the priest is. However in recent events the fare to ride the trains or buses have skyrocketed from the five cents in 1904 to two dollars and seventy five cents in this day and age. In 2 Chronicles 33:10 13 Manasseh repents for his foreign worship and more, by building an outer wall to protect the city of David and removed false idols to restore the altars of YHWH. The repentance of Manasseh is completely missing in the book of Kings. Exile and return are experienced in 2 Chronicles 36:11 21, although kings may have repented (David, Solomon, and Manasseh) it is not implied that the people of Israel have also (2 Chronicles 34:23 24) and therefore God lets His people return to exile. The holy places are destroyed and desecrated while the Israelites are forced again into exile. Thankfully, exile is always followed with return and restoration. King Cyrus acknowledges the Hebrew God and rebuilds the temple and the Israelites are free from exile once ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Marriage Essay Marriage What does marriage mean? By definition, marriage is the legal union of a man and a woman as husband and wife (Webster s Dictionary). Most people claim that they want their marriage to last a lifetime. Because over half of all marriages in the United States end in a divorce, most people lack the understanding of what it takes to stay married. I believe that couples should become more aware of the commitment that they are making when they enter into marriage. Men and women should get to know one another completely before deciding to get married. Important issues such as religion, finances, career, and whether or not to have children should be discussed so that the couple can learn each other s views regarding the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why did they not discuss this issue before they got married or did they think the other one would change after saying their wedding vows? Marriage is not about changing someone; instead, it is about loving your partner for his or her beliefs. Rather than giving up and ending the marriage, many couples could save the marriage by trying to work through the problems that arise. Many people do not realize how much hard work has to be put into a marriage for it to be successful. When planning a wedding, some couples spend a lot of time preparing the vows that will be exchanged during the ceremony, but sadly the partners fail to live by the vows day after day. Scores of married couples drift apart because their hectic lives do not allow them to spend enough quality time together, which is important for a healthy marriage. Communication is also an essential factor in working through problems in a marriage. Entering into marriage for the wrong reason usually leads to divorce. Sometimes an individual will say that he or she married for money, or he or she may claim to have married for love. Many times, lust is mistaken for love; consequently, when the passion ends so does the marriage. Some people choose to marry wealthy people solely to gain financial security, but eventually they will find that money does not lead to happiness. Others enter into marriage believing that it is a cure all that will make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are rumors to say that Elsa, the main character in the movie Frozen, will appear in the sequel with a girlfriend. Now, this movie is primarily made for young children viewers, but is this the correct notion of expressing a character s sexuality? Should children even be exposed to different types of expressing their sexuality? Many parents could disagree that showing same sex relationship can interfere negatively in children s lives. While indeed, there are other important factors that do go into an individual s sexuality such as culture, media, friends and family. She never just looked at the negative in all things. She thought that if someone was bad they could always change, and she was right. After reading The Play of the Diary of Anne Frank I have come to the conclusion that I agree with Anne s quote. The biggest reason I agree with Anne s quote is what Peter did. Even though I think this, there are some people who do not agree with this quote. I think some people would disagree because of what selfish thing Mr. Van Daan did with his wife s coat for himself. There were a lot of other things in The Play of the Diary of Anne Frank, but there was one that got me convended right when I saw. It was a big act of kindness coming from Peter. Conglomerate and vertical mergers help to strengthen the market power by discouraging potential entrants. The monopoly theory played a dominant role in the past, especially in the first great merger wave in the U.S. between 1887 and 1904. Today most of the horizontal mergers are too small to confer monopoly power, because larger acqui sitions fall under intense antitrust scrutiny. In the industrial strategy and organization literature mergers are often explained in terms of synergies and/or efficiencies. The efficiency theory is based on the assumption that the combined firms are more profitable than the companies operating separately because of the operational, managerial and financial synergies. Operational synergies include economies of scale, economies of scope and economies of experience. The valuation or information theory explains a merger from a financial instead of a strategic perspective and assumes that the current market price of a company does not reflect the true value.
