Jack Kevorkian Assisted Suicide Case Study
A serial mercy killer (The Right To Die, 80). This is what some would define what Kevorkian did.
Kevorkian, however does not feel this way. He performs his acts for the greater good in his eyes.
However, he never hesitated to try any other treatments that could result in the patient s improved
health, whether it be antibiotics, or even experimental drug maintenance programs (The Right To
Die, 82). He feels that medically assisted suicideis an essential option to those that are incurable
and dying (The Right To Die, 83). Kevorkian s main concern for his terminal patients was their
comfort and confidence in their decision. He explains the deathhis patient s experienced as being
like a painless heart attack in a deep sleep (The Right To Die,... Show more content on

Cavuto asks Kevorkian what his thoughts are on society diming him as a murderer. His
response was, Well, if I did it with malice aforethought and without the permission, then I would
be a murderer, but they forgot the definition of murderer when they criticized me, because it s so
negative an epithet, that they win by fear. They throw these things out for fear, the same thing
they are doing with the swine flu (Interview With Jack Kevorkian). Here, Kevorkian basically
debunks the entire accusation that he is a murderer. He is saying that the groups that are against
him can call him a murderer, and the people that aren t educated on the whole situation are going
to believe them. If an accusation like that spreads, whether it is technically true or not, that is
going to be put into perspective every time anyone hears the name Jack Kevorkian . It makes his
name a symbol of fear, when, in actuality, the people he murdered were very grateful for his help.
In the same interview, Kevorkian is asked about his religion and his take on death. He tells Cavuto
that he does not believe mythology, he believes we die, then we are gone (Interview With Jack

Third Party Case Summary
What is a Third Party Liability?
WHAT IS A THIRD PARTY?
In a workplace injury, the third party is someone other than a co worker or employer. It could be a
manufacturer, another individual, a municipality, another company or a vendor anyone who, due to
negligence, may have participated or caused the work related injury or illness.
WHAT IS THIRD PARTYLIABILITY?
Third party liability transpires when a worker that has been injured or a person that has suffered a
job related illness makes a claim against someone other than their employer for monetary damages.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PERSONAL INJURY/THIRD PARTY LIABILITY
CASE AND WORKERS COMPENSATION?
When you get injured at work or suffer from an occupational disease, you are generally covered
by Workers Compensation which compensates you for medical expenses and some lost wages.
However, Worker s Compensation does not cover you for long term losses of income, for
permanent medical conditions or for ongoing losses of income from the effects of a workplace
illness or accident. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Similarities Between Mars And Mars
Mars, the red planet, and fourth planet from the sun. What is Mars really like, is it cold or hot,
wet or dry? Can humans live on Mars, and if so how? For decades scientists have been studying
Mars, they have been using rovers and from there they collected data, samples, and took pictures.
These rovers study Marsatmosphere, temperatures, weather, if it has water, and a lot more. With all
of the data the scientists have gathered we know that Mars atmosphere is a lot different than our,
yet still has similarities.
Even though Earth and Mars are in the same solar system and orbit the same sun, Mars
atmosphere and the planet itself is a lot different from Earth. Mars is 142 million miles away
from the sun, with a year being 687 days long. It is about half of Earth s size, and is one tenth of
Earth s mass. Mars atmosphere is carbon based, containing 95.3% carbon dioxide, and also it
only has .3% water vapor (Source for %). The average temperature on Mars is 81 degrees
Fahrenheit which is approximately 62 degrees Celsius (NASA). Mars atmosphere is also very
thin, so it does not allow liquid water to exist at the surface for long (Newsela). Also Mars has a
lot less gravity, Earth has 62.5% more gravity than Mars does (NASA). Mars environment would
not be very hospitable for human life.
Earth also differs a lot from Mars, Earth is 78.1% nitrogen, and 20.9% oxygen, and isn t carbon
based (Source for %). While Mars only is only .3% water vapor, Earth is 1 4%

Compare And Contrast Essay On The Hobbit
The Hobbit was a novel which revolved around the Lord of the Rings trilogy. J. R. R. Tolkien
wrote this book as an aid to his PTSD. This novel was loosely based on the Medieval Times,
from the Anglo Saxon and Scandinavian works. The narrative followed around a group of people
on a quest to take the treasure of Smaug. There are many important components of each story.
These include its plot, themes, or setting. In this essay, I will be explaining the similarities and
differences between the three races of The Hobbit. The first topic of discussion will be the
comparison of the race s physical traits. These physical traits allow a reader to visualize
characters. It also gives the reader to make their own judgements of a race based on appearance.
In the terms of height, the hobbits and dwarves are shorter than an average human. The hobbits
... wear no shoes... thick warm brown hair like the stuff on their heads... (2, Ch. 1) This race also
loves peace, quiet, and a good tilled earth. The dwarves, however, are stocky and tough. An
average dwarf grows a long bread on their faces and wear heavy cloaks. Verification for this
account is, It was a dwarf with a blue beard tucked into a golden belt, very bright eyes under his
dark green hood. (7, Ch. 1). They are very strong from their continuous work in the mines.
Dwarves worked in mines and caverns to acquire the many gems needed for their crafting. The
dwarves also had experience in fighting wars with other races. Elves are a

Computer
[pic]
A computer is a programmable machine that receives input, stores and automatically manipulates
data, and provides output in a useful format.
The first electronic computers were developed in the mid 20th century (1940 1945). Originally,
they were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal
computers (PCs).[1]
Modern computers based on integrated circuits are millions to billions of times more capable than
the early machines, and occupy a fraction of the space.[2]Simple computers are small enough to fit
into mobile devices, and can be powered by a small battery. Personal computers in their various
forms are iconsof the Information Age and are what most people think of as ... Show more content

The use of digital electronics (largely invented by Claude Shannon in 1937) and more flexible
programmability were vitally important steps, but defining one point along this road as the first
digital electronic computer is difficult.
Notable achievements are as under:
в–Є Konrad Zuse s electromechanical Z machines . The Z3 (1941) was the first working machine
featuring binary arithmetic, including floating point arithmetic and a measure of programmability.
In 1998 the Z3 was proved to be Turing complete, therefore being the world s first operational
computer.[17] в–Є The non programmable Atanasoff Berry Computer (commenced in 1937,
completed in 1941) which used vacuum tube based computation, binary numbers, and regenerative
capacitor memory. The use of regenerative memory allowed it to be much more compact than its
peers (being approximately the size of a large desk or workbench), since intermediate results could
be stored and then fed back into the same set of computation elements. в–Є The secret British
Colossus computers (1943),[18] which had limited programmability but demonstrated that a device
using thousands of tubes could be reasonably reliable and electronically reprogrammable. It was
used for breaking German wartime codes. в–Є The Harvard Mark I (1944), a large scale
electromechanical computer with limited programmability.[19] в–Є The U.S. Army s Ballistic

How important was Lenin in enabling the communist government to survive war and rebellion in
the years 1918 1922.
The communist government survived war and rebellion because of a variety of key figures
including Lenin. However to say that Lenin was important is speculative, there were many events
that occurred which Lenin didn t contribute to which helped the communist government survive.
It is possible to think that Lenin was not important in enabling the communist government to
survive war and rebellion because of the kronstadt revolt. This was a key event in which Lenin did
not contribute and therefore unimportant. The kronstadt revolt occurred because sailors at the
Kronstadt naval base had long been a source of radical dissent and ... Show more content on

The most important example to show that Lenin was important in enabling the communist
government to survive war rebellion, is the civil war. The Russian Civil Warwas to tear Russia
apart for three years between 1918 and 1921. The civil war occurred because after November
1917, many groups had formed that opposed Lenin s Bolsheviks. These groups included
monarchists, militarists, and, for a short time, foreign nations. Collectively, they were known as the
Whites while the Bolsheviks were known as the Reds. Lenin imposed an iron grip on territory
under the control of the Bolsheviks. The party had a secret police unit called the Cheka, which was
set up by Lenin on 20th December 1917, it ruthless in hunting out possible opponents to Lenin. In
many areas of Russia, where the Bolsheviks had control, the Cheka was judge, jury and executioner.
Its power was massively extended after August 30th, 1918. War Communismwas introduced by
Lenin to combat the economic problems brought on by the civil war in Russia. Lenin was given
much credit for this and was a key reason in why the Reds won the civil war. This is the important
example because it clearly shows that Lenin had a major effect on the communist party s survival,
by instrumenting key aspects in winning the civil war.
To conclude, it is possible to think that Lenin was unimportant in enabling the communist to survive
the war and rebellion.

Research Paper On Mardi Gras
Researching Mardi Gras and everything dealing with it has broadened my horizons. I feel a
little ashamed that I never knew the history of Carnival. The most I knew was that I get a week
off of school so I can go to parades and eat king cake. Everything means something and has a
history. The colors, floats, trinkets, cake, balls, etc. all are important to Mardi Gras. Over the
past few weeks, I have learned a lot about Mardi Gras. I have become a walking textbook. I can
spit out almost any little thing about Mardi Gras. I have become less ignorant about my culture
after doing this research paper. It has become harder to find new resources about Mardi Gras
because the information starts to become repetitive. Finding new facts about Carnival history is
hard. Almost every article explains the same things such as when Mardi Gras started, what it
represents, and everything else in between. I tried to use different types of sources but I mainly
used articles from databases and two books. Although it does not seem like a variety of sources
it does not matter because they are credible and most of them are recent articles about Mardi
Gras. One of the books I used was published in 1991. It is dated but not to far... Show more content

Elizabeth Cady Stanton s The Solitude Of Self
Elizabeth Cady Stanton delivered her speech The Solitude of Self in 1892, which presented a
definition of being a human being as well as being a woman in the time when males were
dominating the society. By analyzing the historical and rhetorical context that the speech was
delivered at, I argue that Stanton managed to address her purpose to the targeted audiences.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton was one of the most influential activists of the national women s suffrage
movement in the 19th century. After the Civil War, she helped to found the National American
Woman Suffrage Association, which strived to break gender inequality by advocating the need for
women s rights (Davis 28). In January 1892, Stanton delivered her speech The Solitude of ... Show

Therefore, Stanton had to rely on her persuasion ability to influence the decision made by her all
male audience.
Nonetheless, Stanton managed to target her audiences, by assuming herself as almost a philosopher
communicating about life and individual human soul, rather than as a feminist (1). Consider that
her audience were males and did not form a positive impression on her before she made the
speech, Stanton was able to grab her audiences attention by turning away from her usual approach
to promote women s suffrage and raising a question about individual rights (Ginzberg 170). The
speech was structured in a way that all individuals could relate to the speech, and benefit from
reflecting about the question proposed by the speech.
Stanton understood her position and knew that she has no power over her audience. Therefore, the
tone of her speech was placing herself at the same level with her audience, rather than dominating.
Stanton proposed the connection between the audience and herself by constantly using the word
we and our like our Protestant idea (1) , our republican idea (1) , and we come into the world alone
(9). Furthermore, she constructed the shared journey for herself and the audience, moving from the
girl of sixteen (14) to the young wife

My Favorite Family Traditions
Nia Lwanga
Describe one of your favorite family traditions and why it is meaningful to you. 500 words.
My favorite holiday traditions and querencias are Christmas cookie making and Thanksgiving
Black Friday shopping are my. The word querencia has the root of the word querer which is a
spanish verb that means to desire and to want. A querencia is something one desires or something
that makes on feel safe, comforted and free. The first tradition that comes to mind is Christmas
cookie making. Around December 1st, the Christmas spirit begins to spread my around house.
Christmas songs slowly become more ubiquitous in our family playlists. Soon, every family
member becomes a sycophant and complements one another to ensure they receive the gift he or
she wants. On Fridays when I don t have much homework after dance, my family crowds around
in the family room to watch 25 Days Before Christmas . As the cold white snow falls across the
town and we would all watch, warm and excited. My favorite part of Christmas is baking the
cookies for Santa . My aunt, mom, grandma and I bake cookies for the entire family and two
special ones for Santa. At this time we chat about gifts and shopping and share jokes. I loves this
tradition because I love cooking and most of all I love being with my aunt, mom and grandma
all at once. I always feel compelled to take two spoons and scoop out extra batter for myself while
no one is looking. I cherish these family traditions because it is a time where my

Theme Of Absurdism In Waiting For Godot
Theatre of the absurd is one of the prominent schools of drama which flourished during the
twentieth century. Absurd plays usually convey the believe that human existence is pointless and
life is irrational, meaningless, and futile. Therefore, they illustrate humanity s correspondence to the
absurdity of the world especially after the two destructive world wars. Although people struggle to
give life meaning, their inability to find any led them to experience anxiety and confusion. As a
result, people started to doubt religion, question the existence of God, and suffer from weak faith.
Samuel Buckett s play Waiting for Godotdeals with several themes that highlights the absurdity of
human conditions. The play starts with Nothing to be done .... Show more content on

While language has a great importance for human beings, absurdists believe that language is
meaningless and useless. Beckett uses some techniques to emphasize this idea. First, the repetition
of words and phrases makes the language sounds incomprehensible. Vladimir and Estragon repeat
the dialog and sometimes reversed, but sill it has no meaning. Secondly, since people are isolated
and cut from each other, they cannot establish meaningful conversations. Accordingly, Vladimir and
Estragon cannot understanding each other when they have a conversation. They are just speaking
to fill their time while waiting. Language fragmentation adds one more level of absurdity to the
paly. For example, Lucky s long eloquent speech is fragmented and does not carry any

In addition to the simple will, I would suggest that both of you go to see an estate planning
attorney and have them establish a medical durable power of attorney, a living will, and a
general durable power of attorney for each of you. It is ok to name the spouse as the agent for
each other but it is also essential to place in the document a successor agent in case your primary
agent is deceased. When choosing that person, make sure that you have a conversation with that
person to make sure that they know your wishes and desires in terms of financial and medical
decisions that they might have to make. For Paul s mother Claire, she also needs the same three
documents. Even though her only source of income is her Social Security Benefits, a durable
power of attorney is necessary if she needs someone to write checks or deposit checks. For
Claire, it is important to have these documents executed while she is still medically competent
because if you wait until after she is declared incompetent, the process becomes more difficult.
Ron and Peggy also would need a medical durable power of attorney, a living will, and a durable
power of attorney. Even though they are young and still have not built up wealth, these are
important documents to have in place in case they are to become severely ill or are in a horrible

Essay On Death Of A Salesman A Slice Of America
Death of a Salesman: A Slice of Americana The concept of what constitutes American is a varied
as the people who make up America. Thinking about the global perspective of the concept, the
concept stratifies even more so. The opinion of those who love this country may say that
American is apple pie, fast cars, Friday night football, working hard, owning your own home, and
living the American Dream. The opinion of those who are not necessarily fans of America may
point out that we are materialistic, militaristic, brash, entitled, and greedy. Considering that Death
of a Salesman was written in 1949 in a less globally minded, post world War II economic boom
and sense of American pride, it would seem that the American feel given the play would pertain
only to its time in history. Given the complete context of all the personalities and situations
portrayed, however, one can see that Death of a Salesman is timeless in its interpretation of the

In Donaldson s piece, America s Love Affair With Cars, which was ironically published by a
Canadian journal, she points out that Americans are raised to love cars from the very
beginnings of life. There are toy cars that not only are shiny and fun but have working parts,
windshield wipers and horns, and remote controls. Going into young adulthood, it is always the
kids in school with the newest, fastest, and nicest cars that get the best chance at a date with a
popular girl or boy. She notes that Clearly, the automobile has been much more than simply a
means of transportation for most Americans. Once man and woman felt the breeze blowing on
their faces as they sped along a road, a passion was created. The car is just about everything today
including a form of art and craftsmanship, a collector s item, a cultural icon. (Donaldson, 2012)

The Land Ethic Response
One of the penalties of an ecological education is that one lives alone in a world of wounds.
Much of the damage inflicted on land is quite invisible to laymen. An ecologist must either harden
his shell and make believe that the consequences of science are none of his business, or he must
be the doctor who sees the marks of death in a community that believes itself well and does not
want to be told otherwise, said by none other, Aldo Leopold. In A Sand County Almanac, Aldo
Leopold, an American environmentalist, brought a new idea to the environmentalist s table: land

idea has been discussed since the publication by a wide variety of people, from the public to

Coming from an uncultivated society, such as the one that brought farming and ranching to the
settlement of North America, humans have retained some sensitivity to environmental issues as
they derived their livelihood directly from the land. But with the advance to an urban or
metropolitan society, there has been a major disconnect between humanity and nature. Today s
urban society is provided with mowed parks, paved playgrounds, plush automobiles to move the
public around on asphalt roads, housing with automatically regulated heat and cooling, and
supermarkets with shopping carts and baskets, in which people can gather their food supplies
from orderly shelves and freezers. Aldo Leopold s land ethic term suggests that humans stop
treating the land as a mere object or a resource, like how the world does today. For Leopold, land
is not merely soil, like the public would think of today; land is a fountain of energy, flowing
through a circuit of soils, plants, and animals.

Theme Of Self Confidence By Jack London
Jack London s To Build a Fire, tells a tale of an overzealous man, who s over confidence leads to
his death by the hands of nature. Jack London portrayals of self confidence through the main
characters inability to adhere to the guidelines set up by man, to protect man in the harsh climate of
the Yukon Territory. London validates the protagonist
s overconfidence through the omniscient
nature of the narrator, giving the reader the ability to receive, both the perspective of the
protagonist and his canine companion. He also employs the knowledgeable old man as a logical
cognizant, which the protagonists ridicules and ignores. London employs themes of naturalism, to
tactfully portray the nameless character s arrogance leading to his demise. The central character s
death could have easily been avoided if he would have listened to the advice he received, but his
death was ultimately caused by his arrogance, disregarding the aid offered in the form of: the dog s
hesitance, the old man s warnings and nature s unnerving might. The narrator in this story is
omniscient, expressing the thoughts of the protagonists and the dog, these varying viewpoints
exemplify the main character s arrogance. The animal was depressed by the tremendous cold. It
knew that it was no time for traveling. Its instincts told it a truer tale than was told to the man by
the man s judgement. The man completely disregards the dog s natural instincts, which are deeply

The Ultimate Entrepreneur Essay example
The Ultimate Entrepreneur
In 2002 it was reported that George W. Bush told the then prime minister Tony Blair that The
problem with the French is that they don t have a word for entrepreneur . Putting it kindly, this was
a mistake. Translated from French, an entrepreneur is someone who undertakes something. Of
course it carries a much wider meaning than that in the modern English definition. An entrepreneur
is someone who takes an idea and builds it into something great and successful. Someone with
vision, drive and creativity, and the will to make it happen, often against difficult odds. Or
certainly that s the general perception. Does this person have to be a genius? Above average
intelligence? What defines an entrepreneur really? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an entrepreneur you re in the uncertainty business, so you need a high tolerance for risk. You
need to be willing to fail several times if necessary in order to get it right in the end, and you
need to be flexible in your thinking. Your idea may need to change as your journey unfolds, and
you need to be open enough to accept and work with that change. Uncertainty is a scary place, so
you will need to deal with the fear associated with that. Fear of not knowing where next month s
pay cheque is coming from, fear of failure. You must become accustomed to insecurity as a life
choice. And you ll need the ability to think creatively so you can change perspective to solve all
those inevitable problems that come up.
So far then we have vision, passion, persistence, high risk tolerance, flexible and creative thinking.
Throw in resilience for good measure. Not many people have these qualities up front, or maybe
more importantly, are willing to adopt them. It is argued that our education system does nothing to
promote entrepreneurship either. With its emphasis on conformity and thinking inside the box , it
arguably stifles creativity. It is interesting to note that people like Richard Branson, Alan Sugar and
Steve Jobs didn t finish higher education, and Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard. I m not saying

Healthy Psychological Well-Being
One of the main issues with the argument put forth by Taylor, as positive illusions are part of a
healthy psychological well being, is the way she conducted her research. Almost all of the
experiments she conducted were composed of self reported evaluations. In this case, subjects
indicate, based on their own reasoning, whether they demonstrate psychological well being. This
may cause discrepancies in the research based on the subject s bias opinion of themselves,
admittingly having illusions, because they are prone to distorting reality. Subjects who interpret
the world in self serving ways may also perceive their own psychological well being in self serving
ways, when indeed they are not (Young, 2014). This argument was confirmed by researchers,...

The definition of positive illusions has changed over the years, from a disorder to being recognized
as part of mental health. Though the research has shown that there is, in fact, a positive correlation
between positive illusions and both mental and physical health, it does expose a need for focus on
the levels of positive illusions correlating to well being. Studies produced results that support the
hypothesis that levels of positive illusions can be beneficial but only in moderate forms rather
than unrealistic forms, thus providing an individual with a false sense of self rather than simple
confidence. Through research, evidence has explained there is a need for a more specific
definition of positive illusions in order to overcome the vagueness currently being used. In this

Therapeutic Modification Essay
After the ethical examination of both therapeutic and enhancement gene modification, it can be
stated that therapeutic gene modification is a good thing and enhancement gene modification can
be a bad thing. But the other issue is where do you draw the line between the two gene
modifications. On paper it might seem like a clear cut distinction but take the example of children
who use human growth hormone. Assume a child has a medical condition and their treatment
stunts their growth, so they are prescribed human growth hormone. The human growth hormone is
able to help the child grow to his normal hight thus returning him to the baseline. But now that there
is a doctor prescribing human growth hormone, and different parent hear about this treatment...

I believe that there is nothing wrong with the therapeutic gene modification when it involves
somatic cells. I think that it is our moral responsibility to do what we can to help save the lives
of people who are suffering. The doctors who would be proscribing the treatment have all made
a hippocratic oath so it would be their moral duty to follow through on using this particular
treatment. Therapeutic gene manipulation with somatic cells would break any moral, ethical, or
legal laws. But the other forms of genetic manipulation are a little tricky. Therapeutic gene
manipulation of germ cells can be a useful treatment of disease but its effect plays a role in a
larger scope then just the patient alone. I think that it poses a greater risk to the whole of
humanity of we allow changes to germ cells and future generations. It would open the door to all
other types of genetic manipulation. So rules have to be put in place so no abuse of medical
treatment occurs. Finally there should not be any type of enhancement gene modification
occurring. I think that it will overall produce more harm then good. It is not a medical procedure
that is used to help people who are suffering it would simply be a mechanism that would only play a
negative role in human development, simultaneously breaking many ethical rules along the way.

Census Bureau, in 2013 shows, there were 45.3 million people in poverty just in the United
States (U.S Census Bureau, 2013). From those living in poverty, in the same year, the ratio of
the female poverty rate to the male poverty rate was 1.2 women were 20 percent more likely to
be poor than men (Mykyta, 2013, p. 2). Also, of all people categorized as in poverty in 2011,
approximately 56 percent were women (Mykyta, 2013, p. 2). Sakiko Fukuda Parr, director of the
Human Development Report, portrays a simple truth, women are poorer than men (Fukuda Parr,
1999, p. 99). Feminization of poverty is defined as, A societal level process over time in which the
poor are increasingly made up of women and children (Eshleman, 2010, p. 588). According to
Lauren Abbate of Mount Holyoke College, Feminization of poverty is the phenomenon in which
women experience poverty at rates that are disproportionately high in comparison to men (Abbate,
2010). It appears that,

Sherlock Holmes Vs. Sherlock
Since the creation of Sherlock Holmes and his confidante John Watson in the late 18th century the
pair have not only collected a cult following throughout the generations but they are also remarked
as the epitome of competent police work. The characters Holmes and Watson have been recreated
and re imagined countless times by various different authors. John and Sherlock have on some
occasion been imagined as women, serial killers and sometimes even zombies. Holmes and Watson
have become the staple of what it means to be not only capable detectives but Englishmen. Sherlock

This arrangement works for the both of them, as John gets to write about the intricacy that is the
brain and life of Sherlock Holmes, while Holmes has someone to stoke his ego and make him feel
intelligent. However, the dynamic that they ve created between them is destroyed in The Sign of
Four when Mary Morstan makes her first appearance. Prior to her introduction, John Watson s
time and focus was entirely with Sherlock and their cases, but being with Mary means moving on
from his wild days with Sherlock and instead into the life that he was groomed to live as a married
man in the domestic realm.
Doyle s take on the relationship between John and Mary begin and end on two drastically
different airs. When Morstan is first introduced she comes to Sherlock and John in need of help
finding her father who she has unsuccessfully been searching for. John describes Mary as a
blonde young lady, small, dainty, well gloved, and dressed in the most perfect taste...her face had
neither regularity of feature nor beauty of complexion, but her expression was sweet and
amiable, and he large blue eyes were singularly spiritual and sympathetic (Doyle). John is

is the perfect vision of the proper Englishwoman, which goes well with his

Haymin St Sanford Research Paper
Haymin Ståford was born in 1100 CE in Växjö, Sweden. He was a half blood: his mother,
Elsa, was a Muggle, and his father, Olof, was a wizard. They were both loving parents and they
never quarreled in his presence. He got along well with the children in his neighbourhood. As a
result, he never experienced enough stress to do involuntary magic; so his parents assumed that
he was a Squib. They sent him to a Muggle school, where he also got along well with the other

Hayman chose Care of Magical Creatures and Alchemy. Alchemy quickly joined Potions and
Transfiguration as his favourite subjects. He was particularly fascinated with the lectures about
the Vedas, a group of deities in Indian alchemic folklore. They believed in a strict moral code:
doing good deeds for others, using Alchemy for the benefit of all of humanity, both present and

his parents, and these were the principles upon which he had always based his own life. As the

He graduated with an O in Potions, Transfiguration and Alchemy. His examiners for the N.E.W.T.

The Congenital Defects Affecting Livestock
Introduction
Physiological anomalies, regardless of animal species, have captured the imagination of people
throughout history, whether it be showcased in a traveling freakshow or inspiring mythical
creatures in the likes of Cerberus. Congenital duplication refers to birth defects in which a fetus is
born with extra appendages, organs, or other bodily characteristics due to a multitude of causes [1].
These include maternal deficiencies and diet, environmental factors, genetics, as well as bacterial or
viral infection in utero [1]. The congenital defects affecting livestock covered in this factsheet
refer to facial or cranial duplication, known as dicephaly, as well as polymelia, which refers to the
presence of replicated limbs [1][2]. The latter condition, appears in many domestic species, albeit
most frequently in cattle [3].
Types of Dicephaly and Polymelia
Dicephaly and polymelia can both be categorized into subgroups according to their respective
corporal duplicate properties.Dicephaly can be divided into two categories, the first being
diprosopus dicephalus, the replication of the face and cranium resulting in two separate heads, and
the second, diprosopus monauchenos, pertaining to the replication of facial structures with a sole
neck [4].The four categories of polymelia include: cephalomelia, which refers to appendages
sprouting in the cranial region, notomelia, in which limbs grow on the back, thoracomelia,
involving the thorax, and pygomelia, relating to growth

Essay On Folic Acid In New Zealand
New Zealand s public health system is often considered to be on par with the world s best. Our
social welfare system cares for people without bankrupting them and we have a range of
guidelines to ensure that our food and resources are safe. However, it may be that we are failing in
key areas of our healthsystem, particularly in the prevention of neural tube defects such as spina
bifida. This failure may be resulting in widespread and unnecessary suffering for the hundreds of
New Zealanders that have been inflicted with this needless and debilitating illness. Our government
s inability to legislate the supplementation of folic acid puts New Zealand behind the curve
regarding health policy compared to the rest of the world.

Another very serious NTD is anencephaly, in which infants are born with underdeveloped brains
and/or incomplete skulls and generally do not survive more than a few hours after birth. It is clear
that these horrific health outcomes need to be addressed with the utmost urgency.
Neural tube defects have a very negative impact on our society. Adding folic acid to our food
will have positive social implications because it will reduce the occurrence of babies diagnosed
with NTDs. Since the USA s mandatory fortification of folic acid in 1998, statistics have
revealed that there are approximately 1300 less NTD cases than pre fortification statistics
indicated.10 This would significantly benefit families who would instead have healthy babies,
saving them the emotional distress of having a child with an NTD and allowing them to live
without the high demands and healthcare costs involved with caring for a child with an NTD.
This will also impact the wider society, as babies with NTDs have a large impact on society due
to the significant costs to the health and disability sectors. A reduction in the number of babies
requiring lifelong care will save society millions of dollars and will greatly improve the quality of
life of the babies themselves.
Organisations advocating for mandatory fortification in New Zealand include the Paediatric Society
of New Zealand and the New Zealand Medical Association. Approximately eighty

World War one was a serious problem that began July 28 1914. It was the beginning of
misunderstandings between big countries. These countries were not only fighting for their
own rights and for their freedom, but they were also fighting for justice. This war was also
known as the Great War, because it is the 3rd war where the most lives were lost. Over 7 million
civilians lost their lives due to the war, and it had a great impact in economical problems. In this
war there were two alliances the Triple Entente and the Central Powers. Even though this war
caused economical problems, it was also caused communication problems. It was a challenge to
communicate because the correspondence was difficult to transport and also the soldiers and
people in war had not enough time to write their letters. The amount of information they could

Gender Pay Inequality
There are a million and one gender inequality issues taken place locally and globally each day.
Many of these issues vary in degree and intensity across different countries. The gender wage gap

the Middle east and Asia. Asia is the largest continent containing approximately 60 percent of the

women are discriminated against in both work and school environments. The genderpay gap affects

What Is the Role of the Judiciary in a Democracy
Democracy is a system of governance, its origins dates back to Greece and ancient Athens between
421 and 322 B.C. Most Western countries changed their system of governance to a representative
democracy in the 19th century, mostly influenced by liberalism. Democracy, in Greek, means
Power to the People . In this system people vote for their president, choose from different parties. In
an authoritarian state, all powers are in the hand of one person, whereas in a democratic state,
different institutions are in charge of different powers. The government owns the executive, the

The application of the law may be a bit confused sometimes. For example, does a crime blamed
on a person really correspond to the definition of the crime such as we find it on the law? Are the
proofs given really acceptable? If yes, are the punishments planed by the law adapted with the
crime? Those are the kind of decision that the judge has to take, and it is very important that
judges stay independent from the rest of the government, as it is his main role in the democracy,
the impartiality. That is what we are going to study in the second part. In this second part we
will study the role of the judiciary in a Democracy. First of all, the judiciary is neutral. A judge
doesn t show his belonging to any political parties. He judges the crimes trying to be as neutral as
he can. In a democracy this neutrality is very important as neither the government nor any other
parties can affect the judgement. The judiciary is also independent in most of the countries. It
doesn t depend on the executive or the legislative. However, their collaboration is necessary for
the well being of a democracy. The legislative makes the law that the judiciary will apply on court,
but this law needs to be accepted by the judges so they can apply it in the best conditions. This
independency is very important. In fact, the judges don t owe anything to members of the executive

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Air Transport
Using the right type of transport is very important in the supply chain. As we have learnt earlier the
use of the transport mode is of strategic importance to stock holding decisions. Air transport is
much quicker but the costs are high as opposed to shipping by boat or rail. Sea or rail transport
requires having higher levels of inventory in house to meet quick customer demands. Most
importantly, customer service levels must be met, and this often determines the mode of transport
used.
The options for consideration include: rail, road, water (sea and river) or air transport.
Rail
Railway offers the logistics manager cost effective, energy efficient mode of transport for large
quantities of goods over long distances. Though often associated with the movement of low value

Air
Air transport is often viewed as a premium, emergency type service that is used when all else
fails. The most expensive of all the modes of transport, airfreight offers the logistics manager fast,
on time service, but at a relatively high price. However, for firms supporting global markets, air
may in fact be the most cost effective mode of transport when inventory and customer service issues
are considered.
Air transportation is best suited to moving relatively small high value / low volume items long
distances, although things as diverse as livestock and automobiles routinely move by air as well.
The best example of air transport is jewellery, watches, diamonds, gold and gemstones. Like

Who is the Roman Woman? The answer seems hard to be formulated so easily, for being a
woman in Ancient Rome bears only resemblance to the current range of experiences available to
women. The lives of the Roman Women were a reflection of the social system based on inequality
and elitism they lived in. Between the public and private spheres, they were excluded from the
political life of the state but somehow remained embodiments of civic virtues established by their
male superiors. As well as in art an literary representations, they were characterized as being lesser

In sum, we will argue that Ancient Roman Art emphasizes female likeness as solidly attached to
female social identity as the women whom they were meant to represent belonged to a certain kind

representation of the female figure would constitute a social and political agencies directed at the

Regulation of foreign investment in China Foreign investment in china has been adversely affected

foreign investment in china dropped by 17.9%. There has been a notion that china does not well

important to ensure sanity. The Chinese government regulates foreign investment through foreign

that it prohibits, restricts and encourages. Those investments that are not mentioned are allowed in
China. The encouraged investments receive certain special treatments. On the other hand restricted

investments in the high economic value sectors they include: export oriented, selected modern

Introduction
Plane crashes occur for a number of reasons. There seems to be a consensus with the general public
that flying is dangerous, engines fail and planes crash. That is true some times, although the
majority of plane crashes occur largely due to a combination of human error and mechanical failure.
In much of aviations accidents mechanical failure has been a contributing factor. It is impossible
however to blame plane crashes on one reason since events leading up to an accident are so varied.
Reasoning for plane crashes can be placed in a broad number of categories.

This accident could have been avoided if proper procedure was followed in deicing.
The NTSB investigation concluded that the combination of the crew s use of thrust reverse on
the ground for push back, and their failure to active the engine anti ice system caused the crash.
By failing to activate the engine anti ice system, large amounts of snow and ice that were
sucked into the engines during reverse thrust were allowed to remain there. Ice built up on the
compressor inlet pressure probe, which measures engine power. As a result instrument
indications in the cockpit showed an Engine Pressure Ratio of 2.04, while the power plants were
in reality only producing 1.70 EPR, or about 70% of available power. The combination of the ice
covered wings and low power caused an immediate stall on takeoff killing 74 people. (Kilroy, 9).
In Americans Eagle Flight 4184 October 31, 1994, heavy air traffic and poor weather postponed
the arrival of this flight at Chicago s O Hare International Airport, where it was to have landed en
route from Indianapolis, Indiana.
The ATR 72, a twin engine turboprop carrying 68 people, entered a holding pattern 65 miles
southeast of O Hare, which it maintained for over an hour in freezing rain. As the plane circled, a
ridge of ice formed on the upper surface of its wings, eventually causing the aircraft s autopilot to
suddenly disconnect and the pilots to lose control. The ATR disintegrated on impact with a field
below, killing everyone aboard.

I.INTRODUCTION (Heading 1)
We may have to face vagueness in most of the engineering, physics, computer sciences, economics,
social sciences, environmental science and medical sciences problems. These may be due to the
uncertainties of natural environmental phenomena, incompleteness of human knowledge about the
real world or due to the limitations of the means and methods used to take measurements. We can
see vagueness or uncertainty when we decide the boundary between the continents or between
different seas, when the growth rate of population in a country s rural area is determined or when
we make decisions using database information. In all these cases classical set theory, which is based
on crisp concept will not furnish the exact information.
The mathematical ideas like probability theory, fuzzy sets [12], rough sets [10] are well known as
effective models for dealing with such uncertainties. However, each of them has distinguished
advantages as well as certain limitations. Fuzzy sets fail to parameterize a value.
Molodtsov [7] introduced a completely new approach for modeling vagueness and

The Benefits Of Electronic Medical Records
Introduction The benefits of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) significantly outweigh the
disadvantages, when it comes to the nursing care of patients in multiple settings. There have been
multiple studies proving the enhancement and efficiency of nursing care in various areas, when
electronic documentation is properly taught and utilized. Likewise, there is evidence supporting the
reliability of the documentation, after comparing nurses verbal accounts of previously recorded
information. When the programs used in electronic documentation are continually evaluated for
completeness, accuracy, and quality, they become excellent tools for legislation. Electronic medical
records present many advantages to the nursing care of a vast majority of patients, and also help

Puyi was born in 1906 and crowned emperor in 1908. During that time, China had always been
under the imperial system, where one dynasty was ruled by one family, essentially through the idea
of heredity monarchy. Puyi, who had been proclaimed the son of heaven, followed tradition;
however, his time in being emperor was short lived as the Qing dynastyended in 1912, introducing
the Republic of China. Oblivious to life outside the temple doors, Puyicontinuously assured
himself that he was still in charge; it wasn t until in 1924, when Puyi was captured by warlords
and forced to leave the Forbidden City. In 1931, Japan invaded northeast China, and the officers
surrendered to Japan. The Japanese asked for assistance in establishing the Manchukuo, which was
granted. In 1934, Puyi was crowned to be a puppet emperor of Manchukuo under the control of
Japan; nevertheless, in 1945, Russia defeated Japan in northeast China. Puyi abdicated his thrown,
was captured by the Russian army, and arrested for betrayal.
Puyi is important because he was the last emperor that marked the complete end to China s long
timeline of dynasties. Through his experience, he had witnessed and held gargantuan amount of
power over so many people, just for that power to be stripped from him. Though Puyi didn t like
it, he basically was integrated into a modernized society, where even he could be punished under
the law. Ultimately, Puyi plays a role in modern Chinese society, as it is a learning

Motherhood Essay
Motherhood Many different aspects of life characterize motherhood. Traditions along with society
influence the role of motherhood. Carol Stacks All our Kin, is an essay about the structuring of kin
groups (1974, p.47). In the society, if the mother is not mature enough to raise the child, a close
female relative takes on the role of the mother; whereas, the man has the option of choosing to
claim the child and take on the responsibilities of fatherhood or he can imply that the father could
be anyone, which is a socially acceptable reason. Ruth Horowitz The Expanded Familyand Family
Honor, portrays a Mexican Family as a nuclear familyunit within an expanded family (1983, p.64).

Virginity is looked upon as an honor to a woman s husband or her father. It is dishonorable to
lose one s virginity before marriage because a mother is portrayed as an honorable and respectful
figure. If her virginity is lost before marriage or adultery is committed, the society s respect toward
the mother is lost.
On 32nd street, society establishes that the birth mother take on the role of the caretaker before
birth whereas, in The Flats, it is established after birth. On 32nd street, society implies that it is
the woman s duty to bear children. Motherhood is seen not as a last resort but rather as a highly
honored role (Horowitz, 1983, p.71). After marriage, a woman s chief purpose is to bear and
raise children. In The Flats, if the mother is not emotionally ready to nurture a child , the parental
rights are given to a female member of the family who accepts the responsibility as mama (Stack,
1974, p. 49). In the eyes of the community, a young mother who does not perform her duties has not
validated her claim to parenthood (Stack, 1974, p.49).
When a woman becomes a mother she takes on the expected responsibility of bonding with her
child. In The Flats the mama is the women who raises the child, usually for life (Stack, 1974, p.48).
The mama may raise the child and the natural

Tanglewood Disparate Impact Discrimination Case
From the data that was available to me, there is disparate impact discrimination within the hiring
practices of Tanglewood. Not only in the representation of White employees compared to African
American employees, but also in some occupational categories of ratio from White employees
compared to Non white employees as well. (Non white also includes the African American
employees). In reference to the African American employees, by using the 4/5 ratio, there is
evidence of disparate impact discrimination. Reviewing this case, all but three occupational
categories, African American employees percentiles were less than 80%. The percentages became
visibly lower with the higher level job occupations. There was a 2.78% difference between White

The Operating System Linux
3. Linux
3.1 Introduction:
The operating system Linux is an open source version of UNIX [6]. In 1992 [8] Linus Torvalds,
who was a computer science student at the University of Helsinki [6], was the one who started this
operating system.
Linux is used on variety of hardware (e.g. on workstations, mid and high end servers and on
gadgets), which makes it unique [6]. Linux keeps maintaining its position in the market due to the
hard work of both employees and volunteers [6].
Previously, UNIX systems used batch jobs, which run a process until it is finished and then the next
process will run [8]. What UNIX used is known as non preemptive scheduling [8]. After years,
preemptive scheduling was used to run processes in parallel by switching between them [8].
3.2 Scheduling Technique: Linux scheduler is based on Time Sharing Scheduling technique [7],
which means It can effectively schedule tasks that have strict timing requirements . The CPU is
divided into small sections, which allows many process to run simultaneously [7]. Time sharing
depends on timer interrupts [7].
3.2 Scheduling Priorities:
The priority ranges differ for real time tasks and normal tasks in Linux scheduler [1]. In real time
tasks: priorities vary from 0 to 99. In normal tasks: processes priorities range from 100 to 139.
Processes who have higher priorities are numerically lower than others [1].
Normal tasks are appointed priorities based on their nice

Social media exposes users to unrealistic body types of both genders, while females are more
commonly affected. Facebook is the largest and most popular platform of social media with
over 1.3 billion users worldwide, as of 2014. Even though many companies are releasing
campaigns about loving your body no matter your shape or size, social media still finds a way to
create a negative impact on society about body image. The human race has always had a body
standard, which is often unrealistic for most women. The social standard for women in the 2000

During the colonial times, thicker women were preferred over rail thin women. Thick women
were seen to be able to birth many children and were sturdy to work. Curvy women also reflected
a woman s wealth and health. Attractive women were the ones who were well nourished, strong,
and able to help out around the farm. In the beginning of the 20th century, women began to look
boyish, thin and less feminine. They did not wear dresses or corsets, but favoured pants because
they were more suitable for working. In the time of the Second World War, the ideal women
changed again. Women were to be strong yet feminine, and began to have curves like Marylin
Munroe. During the 1960 s, women switched back to the boyish, twiggy look. Most often, it was
hard for women to keep up with the constantly changing expectations. Often, women with money
and higher socioeconomic status were far more likely to be able to conform to these standards.
Women typically were willing to sacrifice comfort and even endure pain to achieve them. This
shows that women value their physical appearance and would go to extreme measures to look how

Based on How coconut water suddenly became ubiquitous on American shelves written by Seth

Consumers are now more conscious on what is in the nutrition facts.they are taking in and how it
affects their body. This results in a feedback effect where people are now much more invested in
finding and buying products that can better and create positive effects in the body. And of course,
Vita Coco is a perfect fit in the health conscious consumers demand of natural hydration. Vita Coco

challenge for them because the locals to these places don t know what to expect taste wise and

creating other Vita Coco flavors. In this way, they can taste familiar flavors but it is now
incorporated with coco water. The other flavors of Vita Coco are not or are still not available in
tropical countries such as the Philippines because locals in tropical countries don t have a
problem on consuming coco water since it is very abundant and the locals are used to the taste.
Relying on all natural resources is a real challenge and that calls for good business planning to
sustaining the company. That is why Vita Coco does not only rely on one place for their coconuts,
they have lots of other tropical countries to rely on from Brazil to Asia. They have sources in 9

The Negative Effects Of Pornography
With the surge of wider spread accessibility to the internet on mobile phones and laptops comes a
surge in the accessibility and viewing of pornography. Much research has been done to study how
such an increase in pornography consumption is impacting the marriage relationship. Some findings
have indicated that users incur serious negative effects, including a 25% higher divorce rate, are
101% more likely to be unfaithful to a spouse, and were 12% less likely to describe their marriageas
very happy (Doran Price, 2014). Interestingly, various studies have also noted that the effects may
be different for men than they are for women, stating that for women who viewed pornographyin
ranges between 2 3 times a month and once a day or more, their marital quality was actually
higher than those who never viewed pornography... (Perry, 2017). Considering such
contradictory findings, it can be difficult for couples to know how pornography use plays into a
healthy marriage, if it does at all. Pornography use, at the very least, has been shown to create
conflict and stress between spouses if the non using partner is more religious or has negative
views surrounding pornography. Is has also been linked with lower self esteem in women. The
affects of this activity must be viewed not only through an individual lens, but through a couple s
view. Taking such a view may reveal that regardless of the empirical outcomes of porn use,
perceptions, even, can have a serious negative impact

to the discussion on the abuse of power. Here in the early stages of the twenty first century fluid
sexual identity is culturally acceptable in the United States, a person can identify with being a man,
and in the matter of moments identify with being a woman. Amid this cultural phenomenon, the
church is wrestling with ancient sacred scriptures that give conflicting messages concerning sexual
identity and leadership. Traditional interpretation of key texts has unfortunately contributed to an
uncomfortable history of abuse and subjection of women in the church and home. As feminism rose
to cultural prominence, the church used scripture to defend

Richard Of Richard As A Machiavellian Character
Richard of Gloucester is perhaps the epitome of a Machiavellian character. According to the
lectures, a Machiavellian leader is one that supports deceit, killing, and genocide in order to defeat
enemies. Does this not scream Richard? On many accounts throughout the play, Richard displays a
blatant disregard for moralityas a ruler in addition to intense manipulations of the people
surrounding him. I think one of the most significant examples of Richard s Machiavellian
tendencies is his response immediately following the beheading of Hastings and the self aware
ironies that accompany this situation.
This passage characterizes how Machiavellian Richard s character is and his awareness of the
nature of his character. Hastings head is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare paints yet another layer of irony in this quote because Richard did not actually
confide in Hastings but he is, however, confiding in his audience as he mourns over Hastings
treachery. Richard continues with terms and phrases like apparent open guilt and laid from all
attainture of suspect further harping on the fact that Hastings had them all fooled and how
outrageous it was, which again assists in Shakespeare s development of the Machiavellian leader
that Richard is. Perhaps the most ironic thing of the whole ordeal is that Richard is not only
completely aware of what he s doing but he finds great pleasure in it. This awareness contributes
even more so to his Machiavellian nature because every immoral and twisted act he carries out is
completely intentional so his desires can be met. He knows he s bringing Hastings crimes to the
forefront and yet Richard is the one committing these acts.
This passage parallels another that takes place earlier in the play when we see Richard s
condemnation of Hastings as a traitor at the Council session. This passage is a parallel because it
exemplifies just how easy it is for Richard to adapt to his situation in order to manipulate those
around him like a true Machiavellian leader. He flips between two different attitudes as new
information is provided once he realizes that a different approach is necessary in order to get what
he wants.

Why Marijuana Should Be Banned
As early as 1853 when recreational cannabis was listed as a fashionable narcotic marijuana began
its downward spiral from a plant that provides paper, clothing, medicinal and recreational benefits
etc. to the heavily criminalized gateway drug it is labeled as today. The Pure Food and Drug Act
of 1906 while no real criminalization of cannabisis directly linked to this law required that drugs
including cannabis be accurately labeled with its contents. The later revisions of this act aimed to
restrict all narcotics to include cannabis, limiting the sale to pharmacies and require a prescription
to purchase/issue. From 1907 thru the late 1920 s many states enacted marijuana laws. Western and
Southwestern states with an influx of Mexican... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The DuPont Company was further expanding into the fields of plastics and synthetic fibers (nylon)
around this time. During this period hemp was an enormous industry in the U.S; hemp products
include such items as paper and fabric, plastics and hemp seed oil was being used in
manufacturing of paint all these products were able to be produced rather quickly and sold at a
significantly lower cost.
Anslinger was the drafter of the 1937 Marijuana Tax Act, with that being said, Anslinger;
assuming under the instructions of Mellon, set up a huge negative campaign against marijuana.
At the time cannabis were mostly used by Blacks and Mexicans (The Mexican Menace), and
Anslinger used people s racism to his advantage. By doing this it made it him that much easier to
justify the ban on all cannabis. One of his biggest supporters/activists was William R. Hearst a
social elite who basically owned the media at this time. It also happens that Hearst also owned the
paper mills and many forests as well. So not only did he jump on board for his racist prejudices he
also would benefit from the elimination of marijuana which posed a threat to his timber industry.
The negative campaign concealed, any and all medicinal and practical uses of the plant; which
many Americans already knew, instead focusing on the negative effects and using the racial hate.
Later acts such as the Boggs Acts of 1952 and the

  • 2. Jack Kevorkian Assisted Suicide Case Study A serial mercy killer (The Right To Die, 80). This is what some would define what Kevorkian did. Kevorkian, however does not feel this way. He performs his acts for the greater good in his eyes. However, he never hesitated to try any other treatments that could result in the patient s improved health, whether it be antibiotics, or even experimental drug maintenance programs (The Right To Die, 82). He feels that medically assisted suicideis an essential option to those that are incurable and dying (The Right To Die, 83). Kevorkian s main concern for his terminal patients was their comfort and confidence in their decision. He explains the deathhis patient s experienced as being like a painless heart attack in a deep sleep (The Right To Die,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cavuto asks Kevorkian what his thoughts are on society diming him as a murderer. His response was, Well, if I did it with malice aforethought and without the permission, then I would be a murderer, but they forgot the definition of murderer when they criticized me, because it s so negative an epithet, that they win by fear. They throw these things out for fear, the same thing they are doing with the swine flu (Interview With Jack Kevorkian). Here, Kevorkian basically debunks the entire accusation that he is a murderer. He is saying that the groups that are against him can call him a murderer, and the people that aren t educated on the whole situation are going to believe them. If an accusation like that spreads, whether it is technically true or not, that is going to be put into perspective every time anyone hears the name Jack Kevorkian . It makes his name a symbol of fear, when, in actuality, the people he murdered were very grateful for his help. In the same interview, Kevorkian is asked about his religion and his take on death. He tells Cavuto that he does not believe mythology, he believes we die, then we are gone (Interview With Jack ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It could be a manufacturer, another individual, a municipality, another company or a vendor anyone who, due to negligence, may have participated or caused the work related injury or illness. WHAT IS THIRD PARTYLIABILITY? Third party liability transpires when a worker that has been injured or a person that has suffered a job related illness makes a claim against someone other than their employer for monetary damages. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PERSONAL INJURY/THIRD PARTY LIABILITY CASE AND WORKERS COMPENSATION? When you get injured at work or suffer from an occupational disease, you are generally covered by Workers Compensation which compensates you for medical expenses and some lost wages. • 4. The Similarities Between Mars And Mars Mars, the red planet, and fourth planet from the sun. What is Mars really like, is it cold or hot, wet or dry? Can humans live on Mars, and if so how? For decades scientists have been studying Mars, they have been using rovers and from there they collected data, samples, and took pictures. These rovers study Marsatmosphere, temperatures, weather, if it has water, and a lot more. With all of the data the scientists have gathered we know that Mars atmosphere is a lot different than our, yet still has similarities. Even though Earth and Mars are in the same solar system and orbit the same sun, Mars atmosphere and the planet itself is a lot different from Earth. Mars is 142 million miles away from the sun, with a year being 687 days long. It is about half of Earth s size, and is one tenth of Earth s mass. Mars atmosphere is carbon based, containing 95.3% carbon dioxide, and also it only has .3% water vapor (Source for %). The average temperature on Mars is 81 degrees Fahrenheit which is approximately 62 degrees Celsius (NASA). Mars atmosphere is also very thin, so it does not allow liquid water to exist at the surface for long (Newsela). Also Mars has a lot less gravity, Earth has 62.5% more gravity than Mars does (NASA). Mars environment would not be very hospitable for human life. Earth also differs a lot from Mars, Earth is 78.1% nitrogen, and 20.9% oxygen, and isn t carbon based (Source for %). While Mars only is only .3% water vapor, Earth is 1 4% ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Compare And Contrast Essay On The Hobbit The Hobbit was a novel which revolved around the Lord of the Rings trilogy. J. R. R. Tolkien wrote this book as an aid to his PTSD. This novel was loosely based on the Medieval Times, from the Anglo Saxon and Scandinavian works. The narrative followed around a group of people on a quest to take the treasure of Smaug. There are many important components of each story. These include its plot, themes, or setting. In this essay, I will be explaining the similarities and differences between the three races of The Hobbit. The first topic of discussion will be the comparison of the race s physical traits. These physical traits allow a reader to visualize characters. It also gives the reader to make their own judgements of a race based on appearance. In the terms of height, the hobbits and dwarves are shorter than an average human. The hobbits ... wear no shoes... thick warm brown hair like the stuff on their heads... (2, Ch. 1) This race also loves peace, quiet, and a good tilled earth. The dwarves, however, are stocky and tough. An average dwarf grows a long bread on their faces and wear heavy cloaks. Verification for this account is, It was a dwarf with a blue beard tucked into a golden belt, very bright eyes under his dark green hood. (7, Ch. 1). They are very strong from their continuous work in the mines. Dwarves worked in mines and caverns to acquire the many gems needed for their crafting. The dwarves also had experience in fighting wars with other races. Elves are a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Free Essays Computer [pic] A computer is a programmable machine that receives input, stores and automatically manipulates data, and provides output in a useful format. The first electronic computers were developed in the mid 20th century (1940 1945). Originally, they were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers (PCs).[1] Modern computers based on integrated circuits are millions to billions of times more capable than the early machines, and occupy a fraction of the space.[2]Simple computers are small enough to fit into mobile devices, and can be powered by a small battery. The use of digital electronics (largely invented by Claude Shannon in 1937) and more flexible programmability were vitally important steps, but defining one point along this road as the first digital electronic computer is difficult. Notable achievements are as under: в–Є Konrad Zuse s electromechanical Z machines . The Z3 (1941) was the first working machine featuring binary arithmetic, including floating point arithmetic and a measure of programmability. In 1998 the Z3 was proved to be Turing complete, therefore being the world s first operational computer.[17] в–Є The non programmable Atanasoff Berry Computer (commenced in 1937, completed in 1941) which used vacuum tube based computation, binary numbers, and regenerative capacitor memory. The use of regenerative memory allowed it to be much more compact than its peers (being approximately the size of a large desk or workbench), since intermediate results could be stored and then fed back into the same set of computation elements. в–Є The secret British Colossus computers (1943),[18] which had limited programmability but demonstrated that a device using thousands of tubes could be reasonably reliable and electronically reprogrammable. It was used for breaking German wartime codes. в–Є The Harvard Mark I (1944), a large scale electromechanical computer with limited programmability.[19] в–Є The U.S. Army s Ballistic ... • 7. First Essay How important was Lenin in enabling the communist government to survive war and rebellion in the years 1918 1922. The communist government survived war and rebellion because of a variety of key figures including Lenin. However to say that Lenin was important is speculative, there were many events that occurred which Lenin didn t contribute to which helped the communist government survive. It is possible to think that Lenin was not important in enabling the communist government to survive war and rebellion because of the kronstadt revolt. This was a key event in which Lenin did not contribute and therefore unimportant. The kronstadt revolt occurred because sailors at the Kronstadt naval base had long been a source of radical dissent and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most important example to show that Lenin was important in enabling the communist government to survive war rebellion, is the civil war. The Russian Civil Warwas to tear Russia apart for three years between 1918 and 1921. The civil war occurred because after November 1917, many groups had formed that opposed Lenin s Bolsheviks. These groups included monarchists, militarists, and, for a short time, foreign nations. Collectively, they were known as the Whites while the Bolsheviks were known as the Reds. Lenin imposed an iron grip on territory under the control of the Bolsheviks. The party had a secret police unit called the Cheka, which was set up by Lenin on 20th December 1917, it ruthless in hunting out possible opponents to Lenin. In many areas of Russia, where the Bolsheviks had control, the Cheka was judge, jury and executioner. Its power was massively extended after August 30th, 1918. War Communismwas introduced by Lenin to combat the economic problems brought on by the civil war in Russia. Lenin was given much credit for this and was a key reason in why the Reds won the civil war. This is the important example because it clearly shows that Lenin had a major effect on the communist party s survival, by instrumenting key aspects in winning the civil war. To conclude, it is possible to think that Lenin was unimportant in enabling the communist to survive the war and rebellion. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Research Paper On Mardi Gras Researching Mardi Gras and everything dealing with it has broadened my horizons. I feel a little ashamed that I never knew the history of Carnival. The most I knew was that I get a week off of school so I can go to parades and eat king cake. Everything means something and has a history. The colors, floats, trinkets, cake, balls, etc. all are important to Mardi Gras. Over the past few weeks, I have learned a lot about Mardi Gras. I have become a walking textbook. I can spit out almost any little thing about Mardi Gras. I have become less ignorant about my culture after doing this research paper. It has become harder to find new resources about Mardi Gras because the information starts to become repetitive. Finding new facts about Carnival history is hard. Almost every article explains the same things such as when Mardi Gras started, what it represents, and everything else in between. I tried to use different types of sources but I mainly used articles from databases and two books. Although it does not seem like a variety of sources it does not matter because they are credible and most of them are recent articles about Mardi Gras. One of the books I used was published in 1991. Elizabeth Cady Stanton s The Solitude Of Self Elizabeth Cady Stanton delivered her speech The Solitude of Self in 1892, which presented a definition of being a human being as well as being a woman in the time when males were dominating the society. By analyzing the historical and rhetorical context that the speech was delivered at, I argue that Stanton managed to address her purpose to the targeted audiences. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was one of the most influential activists of the national women s suffrage movement in the 19th century. After the Civil War, she helped to found the National American Woman Suffrage Association, which strived to break gender inequality by advocating the need for women s rights (Davis 28). Therefore, Stanton had to rely on her persuasion ability to influence the decision made by her all male audience. Nonetheless, Stanton managed to target her audiences, by assuming herself as almost a philosopher communicating about life and individual human soul, rather than as a feminist (1). Consider that her audience were males and did not form a positive impression on her before she made the speech, Stanton was able to grab her audiences attention by turning away from her usual approach to promote women s suffrage and raising a question about individual rights (Ginzberg 170). The speech was structured in a way that all individuals could relate to the speech, and benefit from reflecting about the question proposed by the speech. Stanton understood her position and knew that she has no power over her audience. Therefore, the tone of her speech was placing herself at the same level with her audience, rather than dominating. Stanton proposed the connection between the audience and herself by constantly using the word we and our like our Protestant idea (1) , our republican idea (1) , and we come into the world alone (9). Furthermore, she constructed the shared journey for herself and the audience, moving from the girl of sixteen (14) to the young wife ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My favorite holiday traditions and querencias are Christmas cookie making and Thanksgiving Black Friday shopping are my. The word querencia has the root of the word querer which is a spanish verb that means to desire and to want. A querencia is something one desires or something that makes on feel safe, comforted and free. The first tradition that comes to mind is Christmas cookie making. Around December 1st, the Christmas spirit begins to spread my around house. Christmas songs slowly become more ubiquitous in our family playlists. Soon, every family member becomes a sycophant and complements one another to ensure they receive the gift he or she wants. On Fridays when I don t have much homework after dance, my family crowds around in the family room to watch 25 Days Before Christmas . As the cold white snow falls across the town and we would all watch, warm and excited. My favorite part of Christmas is baking the cookies for Santa . My aunt, mom, grandma and I bake cookies for the entire family and two special ones for Santa. At this time we chat about gifts and shopping and share jokes. I loves this tradition because I love cooking and most of all I love being with my aunt, mom and grandma all at once. I always feel compelled to take two spoons and scoop out extra batter for myself while no one is looking. I cherish these family traditions because it is a time where my ... Absurd plays usually convey the believe that human existence is pointless and life is irrational, meaningless, and futile. Therefore, they illustrate humanity s correspondence to the absurdity of the world especially after the two destructive world wars. Although people struggle to give life meaning, their inability to find any led them to experience anxiety and confusion. As a result, people started to doubt religion, question the existence of God, and suffer from weak faith. Samuel Buckett s play Waiting for Godotdeals with several themes that highlights the absurdity of human conditions. The play starts with Nothing to be done .... Beckett uses some techniques to emphasize this idea. First, the repetition of words and phrases makes the language sounds incomprehensible. Secondly, since people are isolated and cut from each other, they cannot establish meaningful conversations. Accordingly, Vladimir and Estragon cannot understanding each other when they have a conversation. They are just speaking to fill their time while waiting. Thinking about the global perspective of the concept, the concept stratifies even more so. The opinion of those who love this country may say that American is apple pie, fast cars, Friday night football, working hard, owning your own home, and living the American Dream. The opinion of those who are not necessarily fans of America may point out that we are materialistic, militaristic, brash, entitled, and greedy. Considering that Death of a Salesman was written in 1949 in a less globally minded, post world War II economic boom and sense of American pride, it would seem that the American feel given the play would pertain only to its time in history. • 14. Aldo Leopold A Sand County Almanac A McVay The Land Ethic Response One of the penalties of an ecological education is that one lives alone in a world of wounds. Much of the damage inflicted on land is quite invisible to laymen. An ecologist must either harden his shell and make believe that the consequences of science are none of his business, or he must be the doctor who sees the marks of death in a community that believes itself well and does not want to be told otherwise, said by none other, Aldo Leopold. In A Sand County Almanac, Aldo Leopold, an American environmentalist, brought a new idea to the environmentalist s table: land ethic. His idea of a land ethic is a moral responsibility of humans to the natural Earth. Leopold s idea has been discussed since the publication by a wide variety of people, from the public to scholars. Coming from an uncultivated society, such as the one that brought farming and ranching to the settlement of North America, humans have retained some sensitivity to environmental issues as they derived their livelihood directly from the land. Today s urban society is provided with mowed parks, paved playgrounds, plush automobiles to move the public around on asphalt roads, housing with automatically regulated heat and cooling, and supermarkets with shopping carts and baskets, in which people can gather their food supplies from orderly shelves and freezers. Aldo Leopold s land ethic term suggests that humans stop treating the land as a mere object or a resource, like how the world does today. Bush told the then prime minister Tony Blair that The problem with the French is that they don t have a word for entrepreneur . Putting it kindly, this was a mistake. Translated from French, an entrepreneur is someone who undertakes something. Of course it carries a much wider meaning than that in the modern English definition. An entrepreneur is someone who takes an idea and builds it into something great and successful. Almost all of the experiments she conducted were composed of self reported evaluations. In this case, subjects indicate, based on their own reasoning, whether they demonstrate psychological well being. This may cause discrepancies in the research based on the subject s bias opinion of themselves, admittingly having illusions, because they are prone to distorting reality. Subjects who interpret the world in self serving ways may also perceive their own psychological well being in self serving ways, when indeed they are not (Young, 2014). Studies produced results that support the hypothesis that levels of positive illusions can be beneficial but only in moderate forms rather than unrealistic forms, thus providing an individual with a false sense of self rather than simple confidence. Therapeutic Modification Essay After the ethical examination of both therapeutic and enhancement gene modification, it can be stated that therapeutic gene modification is a good thing and enhancement gene modification can be a bad thing. But the other issue is where do you draw the line between the two gene modifications. On paper it might seem like a clear cut distinction but take the example of children who use human growth hormone. Assume a child has a medical condition and their treatment stunts their growth, so they are prescribed human growth hormone. The human growth hormone is able to help the child grow to his normal hight thus returning him to the baseline. But now that there is a doctor prescribing human growth hormone, and different parent hear about this treatment... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that there is nothing wrong with the therapeutic gene modification when it involves somatic cells. I think that it is our moral responsibility to do what we can to help save the lives of people who are suffering. The doctors who would be proscribing the treatment have all made a hippocratic oath so it would be their moral duty to follow through on using this particular treatment. Therapeutic gene manipulation with somatic cells would break any moral, ethical, or legal laws. But the other forms of genetic manipulation are a little tricky. Therapeutic gene manipulation of germ cells can be a useful treatment of disease but its effect plays a role in a larger scope then just the patient alone. I think that it poses a greater risk to the whole of humanity of we allow changes to germ cells and future generations. It would open the door to all other types of genetic manipulation. So rules have to be put in place so no abuse of medical treatment occurs. Finally there should not be any type of enhancement gene modification occurring. I think that it will overall produce more harm then good. It is not a medical procedure that is used to help people who are suffering it would simply be a mechanism that would only play a negative role in human development, simultaneously breaking many ethical rules along the way. • 20. Feminization Of Poverty And Poverty Feminization of Poverty Poverty is an issue that is faced by multitudes of people around the world. Poverty itself is defined as, the state of being poor (Merriam Webster). According to Sara S. McLanahan, of Princeton University, In the United States, poverty is defined as not having enough income to pay for basic needs, such as food, clothing and shelter. Poverty is a family attribute. In other words, if a family is classified as poor, all the members of that family are also poor (McLanahan, n.d.). The U.S. Census Bureau, in 2013 shows, there were 45.3 million people in poverty just in the United States (U.S Census Bureau, 2013). From those living in poverty, in the same year, the ratio of the female poverty rate to the male poverty rate was 1.2 women were 20 percent more likely to be poor than men (Mykyta, 2013, p. 2). Also, of all people categorized as in poverty in 2011, approximately 56 percent were women (Mykyta, 2013, p. 2). Sakiko Fukuda Parr, director of the Human Development Report, portrays a simple truth, women are poorer than men (Fukuda Parr, 1999, p. 99). Feminization of poverty is defined as, A societal level process over time in which the poor are increasingly made up of women and children (Eshleman, 2010, p. 588). My relationship with Antonio has allowed me to observe Shylock over the years and never have I seen even a streak of kindness and forgiveness emerge from his blackened heart. He is the most sinister man that I have ever encountered in my life. His thoughts are full of greed for money and plans for revenge against his never ending hatred for Christians. Thus, I believe you are mistaken in thinking that Shylockshould receive the penalty for the breach of a contract. I am indeed well aware of the contract between Antonioand Shylock and believe the terms of this bond were nowhere near fair; they are inhumane, and even Jessica, Shylock s runaway daughter, agrees that this is so; in fact, she betrayed him due to his brutishness! And in any case, what kind of a person would want a pound of flesh from an innocent Christian? To add to my point, who in their right mind would want a pound of Antonio s flesh? • 32. Roman Women Essay Who is the Roman Woman? The answer seems hard to be formulated so easily, for being a woman in Ancient Rome bears only resemblance to the current range of experiences available to women. The lives of the Roman Women were a reflection of the social system based on inequality and elitism they lived in. Between the public and private spheres, they were excluded from the political life of the state but somehow remained embodiments of civic virtues established by their male superiors. As well as in art an literary representations, they were characterized as being lesser human beings because of their differences from men. Regulation Of Foreign Investment On China Regulation of foreign investment in China Foreign investment in china has been adversely affected by the global economic and financial crisis since 2008. In the first 6 months of the year 2009, foreign investment in china dropped by 17.9%. There has been a notion that china does not well receive foreign investors compared to the past. Reports of abolishment of special treatment for foreign investors have been reported. However we all agree that regulation of foreign investment is important to ensure sanity. The Chinese government regulates foreign investment through foreign investment catalogue revised regularly by the China s National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Commerce. This catalogue clearly states the foreign investments that it prohibits, restricts and encourages. Those investments that are not mentioned are allowed in China. The encouraged investments receive certain special treatments. On the other hand restricted ones are subjected to strict approval requirements. Among the encouraged investments are investments in the high economic value sectors they include: export oriented, selected modern services sectors, technology research and development, vocational skill training, information consulting, intellectual property services banking services securities, insurance, education and sports, health care, tourism and home service. That is true some times, although the majority of plane crashes occur largely due to a combination of human error and mechanical failure. In much of aviations accidents mechanical failure has been a contributing factor. It is impossible however to blame plane crashes on one reason since events leading up to an accident are so varied. This accident could have been avoided if proper procedure was followed in deicing. The NTSB investigation concluded that the combination of the crew s use of thrust reverse on the ground for push back, and their failure to active the engine anti ice system caused the crash. By failing to activate the engine anti ice system, large amounts of snow and ice that were sucked into the engines during reverse thrust were allowed to remain there. Ice built up on the compressor inlet pressure probe, which measures engine power. As a result instrument indications in the cockpit showed an Engine Pressure Ratio of 2.04, while the power plants were in reality only producing 1.70 EPR, or about 70% of available power. The combination of the ice covered wings and low power caused an immediate stall on takeoff killing 74 people. (Kilroy, 9). We also define soft multi set topology, its interior exterior, boundary and their properties. We establish several important results in mathematical modeling of spacial objects using fuzzy soft interior, fuzzy soft exterior, fuzzy soft boundary. Keywords Fuzzy Sets, Soft Sets, Multi Sets, Fuzzy Topology. I.INTRODUCTION (Heading 1) We may have to face vagueness in most of the engineering, physics, computer sciences, economics, social sciences, environmental science and medical sciences problems. These may be due to the uncertainties of natural environmental phenomena, incompleteness of human knowledge about the real world or due to the limitations of the means and methods used to take measurements. We can see vagueness or uncertainty when we decide the boundary between the continents or between different seas, when the growth rate of population in a country s rural area is determined or when we make decisions using database information. In all these cases classical set theory, which is based on crisp concept will not furnish the exact information. The mathematical ideas like probability theory, fuzzy sets [12], rough sets [10] are well known as effective models for dealing with such uncertainties. However, each of them has distinguished advantages as well as certain limitations. Fuzzy sets fail to parameterize a value. Molodtsov [7] introduced a completely new approach for modeling vagueness and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Benefits Of Electronic Medical Records Introduction The benefits of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) significantly outweigh the disadvantages, when it comes to the nursing care of patients in multiple settings. There have been multiple studies proving the enhancement and efficiency of nursing care in various areas, when electronic documentation is properly taught and utilized. Likewise, there is evidence supporting the reliability of the documentation, after comparing nurses verbal accounts of previously recorded information. When the programs used in electronic documentation are continually evaluated for completeness, accuracy, and quality, they become excellent tools for legislation. Electronic medical records present many advantages to the nursing care of a vast majority of patients, and also help uphold satisfactory legal and ethical implications of nursing documentation. Body (Review of Literature) Bruylands, Paans, Hediger, MГјller Staub (2013) provide evidence of electronic health records improving the nursing process. The purpose of their study was to assess the effectiveness of electronic nursing documentation, when it was and was not coupled with an instructive program. The experiment sampled electronic nursing documentation over time, and ranked the groups in terms of accurateness of the nursing process. It was shown that groups who were provided with continual education had a substantially higher accuracy, when it came to using the nursing process. While all groups benefited immensely from the ... In 1931, Japan invaded northeast China, and the officers surrendered to Japan. The Japanese asked for assistance in establishing the Manchukuo, which was granted. In 1934, Puyi was crowned to be a puppet emperor of Manchukuo under the control of Japan; nevertheless, in 1945, Russia defeated Japan in northeast China. Puyi abdicated his thrown, was captured by the Russian army, and arrested for betrayal. Puyi is important because he was the last emperor that marked the complete end to China s long timeline of dynasties. Through his experience, he had witnessed and held gargantuan amount of power over so many people, just for that power to be stripped from him. Linux is used on variety of hardware (e.g. on workstations, mid and high end servers and on gadgets), which makes it unique [6]. Linux keeps maintaining its position in the market due to the hard work of both employees and volunteers [6]. Previously, UNIX systems used batch jobs, which run a process until it is finished and then the next process will run [8]. What UNIX used is known as non preemptive scheduling [8]. After years, preemptive scheduling was used to run processes in parallel by switching between them [8]. 3.2 Scheduling Technique: Linux scheduler is based on Time Sharing Scheduling technique [7], which means It can effectively schedule tasks that have strict timing requirements . The CPU is divided into small sections, which allows many process to run simultaneously [7]. Richard continues with terms and phrases like apparent open guilt and laid from all attainture of suspect further harping on the fact that Hastings had them all fooled and how outrageous it was, which again assists in Shakespeare s development of the Machiavellian leader that Richard is. Perhaps the most ironic thing of the whole ordeal is that Richard is not only completely aware of what he s doing but he finds great pleasure in it. This awareness contributes even more so to his Machiavellian nature because every immoral and twisted act he carries out is completely intentional so his desires can be met. He knows he s bringing Hastings crimes to the forefront and yet Richard is the one committing these acts. This passage parallels another that takes place earlier in the play when we see Richard s condemnation of Hastings as a traitor at the Council session.
