Unreasonable Searches In Public Schools
A search is an examination of a person, place, or vehicle for contraband or evidence of a crime (Harr,
Hess, Orthmann, Kingsburry, 2015, p. 198). Searches are essentially invasions of someone s privacy
and, therefore, are stringently regulated by the Fourth Amendment. A seizure is a taking by law
enforcement or other government agent of contraband, evidence of a crime, or even a person into
custody (Harr et al., 2015, p. 199). The Fourth Amendment also closely regulates seizures. The Fourth
Amendment prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures and demands that any search or arrest
warrant be founded on probable cause. The increase of educational and social development of students
is the primary goal of public schools. While attempting to accomplish this goal, investigations take
place periodically do to wrongdoings by adolescents and punishments are imposed accordingly. The

Who Is Michael Phelps A Hero
Michael Phelps is one of the most decorated Olympic athletes in the world. Many people look at him
as a hero, but he did not have an easy life. Early on, his parents divorce had a profound impact on him,
giving him nightmares that were very upsetting. After winning eight gold medals at the Athens
Olympic Games in 2004, at the height of popularity, he struggled with alcohol and drugs. However,
with the help of his swim coach Bob Bowman, and the support of his mother, two sisters, and his
father, he was able to overcome the personal struggles and return to the sport in which he excelled. His
ability to admit he had problems and making himself vulnerable enabled him to overcome his
weaknesses and return to sports.
He started swimming when he was young, and his wish to become a great swimmer made him
dedicated to the sport, giving up other sports to train constantly. Phelps began swimming at age 7

so much time with swimming, that he didn t have any skills to live a normal life. By admitting his
problems, he made himself vulnerable so he could face his problems and get back on the right track.
In spite of his problems, Michael Phelps was able to face them with the courage and determination
that made him a world class swimmer. He knew he had a problem and went to get help. It enabled him

The British And French Armies
The British and French Armies adopted and modified this tactic as well to meet their battlefield needs.
They developed time standards based on terrain. Optimally, the artillery and infantry should
simultaneously advance approximately 100 yards every one to six minutes. Eventually shell variants
were used for concealment as well. Originally only shrapnel shells were used. As the tactic
progressed, artillery would fire smoke ahead of the high explosive rounds giving ultimate cover to the
advancing infantry (Griffith, 141). After these tactics were employed during the battle in the Argonne
forest, allied forces advanced quickly towards their objective and within ten days had beaten the
German Army into almost full retreat. Never before had the American or allied forces fought a battle
of such scale. However, once commanders that were not present at the battle relinquished control to
Generals on the ground, the battle took a turn. New tactics were introduced, ill performing
commanders were replaced, and Soldiers were given a chance to rest. Those factors gave allied forces
the means necessary to continue successfully in the battle in the Argonne forest. During the Great War,
the Army predominantly used the oldest of intelligence techniques. Espionage was dangerous and
often lead to the death of those soldiers and spies behind enemy lines. The time to deliver important
and relevant information to the front lines took time. The first large scale use of Army radio

Reading For The Emotional Level
1.) Introduction Such readers respond first of all, and sometimes only, to their reading on an emotional
level; the work affects them, producing joy or revulsion, laughter or tears, anxiety or elation (Page
xxvii). I use to not analyze works because I would think that this factor would alleviate the experience
of reading books. I still think that analyzing books as a piece of work instead of reading for the
emotional level somewhat takes the joy out of the experience. However, it only brings a different type
of joy to reading. If not on the emotional level, readers can enjoy tying the similarities of one story to
another. Piecing the different parts of characters and plots that resemble another story gives more
insight to both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, I never summed that process up as in this chapter. Readers gain experience and knowledge
throughout their life, then they put this knowledge to use when they encounter a story. Looking for
matching themes and archetypes helps give a story depth. However, not everyone has the same
experiences, that s what making a connection to a book is so unique. This example is from a small
story that can equate to one of the Knight in Shining Amour tales. When I read a poem or story, I can
mostly relate it other stories such as the example shown. This process helps to show a greater
resonance and meaning to the story and gives the story another tale to be compared and contrasted
against. Although I did notice some similarities in literature, I never made it a habit of looking for
them. This chapter has explained the process and helped me to notice how those similarities help
literature. 175

Consequences Of Statistical Inferences Providing A Result
Consequences of statistical inferences providing a result rather than an answer could include
researchers incorrectly applying related management implications to their studies, when in reality they
are applying a treatment that was not correctly interpreted. This could result in the new study
producing a non significant result when a biologically significant result should have been detected.
Researchers desperate for a significant P value may claim an observation that was not present in the
study, or perform researchers degrees of freedom, which is defined as decision making as researchers
conduct the study, and not beforehand.
b. Truth cannot be derived from a single study; it must be repeated to increase the precision of the
study and therefore the strength of inference made about the results. Often, using the same sample and
similar methods will not procure similar results, and therefore a consensus of studies should be
provided to make a general claim. Studies that truly follow the scientific method and include
randomization and repeatability will be closer to discovering the truth than other studies.
c. In the vitamin E study, the first studies conducted on the effects on vitamin E continued to be cited

Pros And Cons Of Aging Out
You come home on your 18th birthday, and rather than your mom and dad waiting to greet you and
celebrate this milestone with you, your bags are packed and waiting next to the door. For many foster
children, this is a reality. Take John; for example, John is currently a senior at the L N STEM
Academy who has recently turned 18. Unlike most people, turning 18 wasn t a happy occasion for him
to look forward to. As he neared his 18th birthday, he was not fantasizing about all the freedom he
would soon have. Instead, he was trying to figure out where he would live. Every year more than
23,000 children will age out of the foster care system (Gaille). This can be incredibly straining as most
children who age out are still in high school and don t have time for a full time job, and typically, they
have not built up a credit score. Without any source of income or a credit score, it can be nearly
impossible for these children to find an apartment or other housing. Some take up couch hopping,
spending nights on various friends couches for a few months, but, overall, 1/3 of foster children who
age out spend their first night on the streets, and 1 in 5 are homeless within two years of aging out
(Stout). Aging out also comes with issues regarding education. Emancipated adolescents are three
times more likely to never receive a high school diploma or GED, with only 57% graduating high
school by 19. Moreover, 1 in 4 emancipated young adults will be incarcerated within two years,

for humans to become zombies. In World War Z and Wastelands: The End of the World as We Know It
both apocalyptic stories set the setting in extreme and lonely places. The characters in the novels
educate themselves to survive the world during an apocalypse. People are constantly running, crying,

which an apocalypse could happen, however, the origin of the outbreak is unknown. Zombies are just

Gulf War in which some 23,000 people died, most of them Iraqi conscripts killed by American bombs
military style Humvees have been especially coveted (Bailey 292). As the short story goes along about
Wyndham s life, the author connects it to the real world. Bailey inserted various reflections on the
many types of end of the world stories. Likewise, the interviewer in World War Z travels the world
and covers different event around the world. Each event relates to the modern society. There comes a
point when you have to realize that the sum of all your blood, sweat, and tears will ultimately amount
to zero (Brook 48). Max Brook s point is not only people would die for zombies, people would die
from the lack of clean water supply. Flint, Michigan s water contamination crisis became a federal
emergency and required aid from the National Guard. North American millennials (27.3%) are most
concerned by the global lack of food and water, followed by 21.5% of millennials in Europe and 11%

personal lives vulnerable and less dominant. Such are the stories of Dr. Landis in My Sister s Marriage

have similarities and differences, in the way they view women as the weaker vessels, the way people
react to them and how both are changed forever by their own personal choices. Their similarities and

life, only that he warily got up and dusted himself off (Cheever 382). This experience with such a sick
girl having a gun on him threatening his life, after this happens, we can only assume that his choices
of women to sleep with and fool around with will change. Blake will probably end up seeing
prostitutes for his carnal needs. Then he won t have to deal with another psycho

The 1900 s Milk
Since the beginning of human existence they have always had meat in their diets. Hunting was their
life and that is all they would do to survive. As civilization progressed animals became domesticated
and farming was invented. The irrigation system further progressed farming allowing for more food
yield and better nutrition. The domestication of animals also brought milk into the scene which was
used for cooking. Ever since then humans have eaten a mixture of animal and grown food products
claiming themselves as omnivores meaning that they eat both plant and animal based foods. This has

that calcium from milk is barely absorbed in the bones. The amount of people with osteoporosis in the
U.S. rose from 10 million in 2002 to 12 million in 2010 and is expected to be more than 14 million by
2020. ( Facts and Statistics ) In a report done on whether three servings of milk a day was an evidence
based recommendation it provides evidence against milk being good and nutritious. This report was
done by two medical doctors who each had Phds from the Harvard School of Public Health. They
explained how the milk everyday was promoted because of the sugar content in milk that got kids to
drink it. They also explained how humans have no nutritional requirement from milk and countries
that do not consume milk have a much lower bone fracture rate than countries that do consume milk.
They also provide results from a meta analysis that showed that milk consumption had no benefit for
bone protection in adults. A meta analysis is a combined report of multiple scientific studies. (Ludwig)
Green vegetables such as kale provide just as much calcium as milk and this calcium is better
absorbed by bones. Three cups of kale provide the same amount of calcium as one cup of cow s milk
without the added fat and cholesterol adding in vitamin a and e. Oranges have about the same amount
of calcium as kale and oranges have vitamin c which helps the immune system. Given that three cups
is a lot one cup of soy milk has the same amount of calcium as cow s milk and only one ounce of
sesame seeds have the same amount of calcium as a cup of milk. That is just one spoonful of seeds

Why Is The Great Gatsby Bad
The Tragic Essay Is there such a thing as running away from your problems, and right back to money?
Well there is an excellent book named The Great Gatsby written by F.Scott Fitzgerald, which was a
tragic ending that gives evidence on this topic. In the story, Nick the Narrator meets with his cousin
Daisy and her husband Tom at New York; however Tom is having an affair with a woman named
Myrtle. Daisy has an affair with a man named Gatsby. Gatsby is rich and throws parties seeking for
Daisy, the one he loves. So Nick is noticing all of this rising from the ground. In summary, Daisy and
Gatsby are in a car driving, and idiotic Myrtle jumps in front of them and gets hit. Daisy drove away
and Gatsby was blamed, so George the husband the husband of Myrtle retaliates and shoots Gatsby in
the chest. Gatsby dies and no one comes to his funeral not even Daisy the one he loved. So people like

Research Paper On Poliomyelitis
The word poliomyelitis is derived from two Greek words, polio meaning grey and myelon meaning
marrow which indicates the spinal cord. The classic manifestation of paralysis is the effect of polio
virus on the spine (Paul, 1971). Ancient records mention crippling diseases compatible with
poliomyelitis. A weakness of the lower limbs in children that was identifiable as poliomyelitis was
first described by Michael Underwood in 1789. The first outbreaks were reported in the early 19th
century and in 1843 in Europe and the United States respectively. For the next century, polio
epidemics were reported from developed countries in the Northern Hemisphere each summer and fall.
As years passed, the severity of the epidemics and the average age of persons affected increased
(Birmingham et al.,1997). This led to an increase in the number of deaths as a resulting from polio.
Polio cases hit a peak in the USA in 1952, where more than 21,000 paralytic cases were reported
(Paul, 1971). However, polio incidence declined rapidly following introduction of ... Show more

Examples Of Maturity In Catcher In The Rye
There are certain qualities that define maturity, and they vary from person to person. Throughout the
story, Holden Caulfield, the sixteen year old protagonist of The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger is
slowly but surely becoming a mature, young boy. He battles through his teenage life because he is
caught between two worlds; one of pure bliss and innocence, the other of a mature adult. As he aspires
to be the catcher in the rye , he wants all children to hold on to their innocence as long as they can
because he feels the world is full of phony adults. However with the help of some friends and family,
he is able to realize that he cannot save all children and that they will eventually have to grow up.

Central Park. While speaking with his taxi driver, he says: Hey, listen ... You know those ducks in that

they go, the ducks, when it gets all frozen over? Do you happen to know, by any chance? I realized it

himself as a duck trapped in the motionless water, a gloomy atmosphere where he does not belong nor

should have a chance to find his place in the world too. His motive for wanting a great escape is
because he fears the idea of maturing into a young adult. He feels that adults are phony s and

How Did Ancient Egypt Created A Form Of Communication
The ancient Egyptians created a form of communication by creating symbols that were put together
into words, called hieroglyphs. They represented both objects and ideas, and were enscripted and
carved on walls of temples and pyramids, usually made by the pharaoh to show laws, rules, or
announcements. This type of writing held secret messages, and was hard to decode. The hieroglyphic
system used in ancient Egypt had around 750 basic symbols, called glyphs. At first they used picture
writing, and the pictures represented an object, pictograms, but later the pictures represented ideas,
known as ideograms. At last, the pictures represented both objects and ideas, but also the sound of a
word. Each picture was formed by a unique sound and image.

The Historical Prevalence Of Bisexuality Essay
The historical prevalence of bisexuality is hard to determine because same sex sexual activity has
traditionally been very stigmatized; furthermore bisexuality is often ignored in historical discussions
of sexual orientation. Nonetheless, over the past few decades, the status quo with regard to same sex
sexual activity has changed drastically. The repeal of anti gay laws and the 2003 supreme court
decision Lawrence v. Texas which eliminated all remaining sodomy laws in the United States, the
removal of homosexuality from its designation as a sexual disorder in the DSM, the existence of high
profile LGBTQ figures, and the push for, and legalization of gay marriage in the United States and
other western countries have all been significant contributing factors toward the normalization of same
sex sexual activity. The general public has experienced increased exposure to the LGBTQ community,
and as a result, acceptance of sexual minorities, including bisexual individuals, has grown.
In spite of the progress toward acceptance of bisexual individuals, many people still view sexual
orientation as dichotomous, which contributes to the erasure and/or invisibility of the bisexual
community (Alarie Gaudet 2013). Some also perceive bisexuality as a transitional identity between
heterosexuality and homosexuality, or believe that people who identify as bisexual are just too afraid
to come out as homosexual (Israel and Mohr 2003; Alarie Gaudet 2013). Some studies have

As we begin the twenty first century, an increasing number of states around the world are acquiring
nuclear capabilities. The sense of insecurity by individual governments is driving many states into
developing and testing ballistic missiles. In the mean time, the United States finds itself in a position
to develop new technology that will protect themselves against these potential missile strikes. The
development of a national anti ballistic missile defense system has sparked many controversies around
the United States. Advocates of the system argue that it is only a defensive measure, but they fail to

Disturbed by the Rumsfeld report, Capital Hill responded immediately by passing two bills. The first
bill known as S. 257 stated, It is the policy of the United States to deploy as soon as is technologically
possible an effective National Missile Defense system capable of defending the territory of United
States against limited ballistic missile attack . The S.257 was followed by a second bill named H.R. 4
passed in March of 1999 that stated, It is the policy of the United States to deploy a national missile
defense. (Policy.com)
The proposal of the National Missile Defense System by Capitol Hill is a clear example of the
international security dilemma, where the United States desire to become more secure compromises
other states security. By setting up a missile defense to escape the power of other states, this will only
create insecurity in the international arena that will prompt other states to react with their own missile
defense system. This dynamia can also be seen through the prisoner s dilemma diagram (Figure 1).
The United States fears for the worst possibility so it arms itself to increase its protection. It does not

Theatre Application Essay
Oh God, I m bleeding! There I stood, being crucified while hanging from a light rack at the end of the
play. When I was on stage that night, singing and making the audience believe all the pain felt real, I
demonstrated the greatest talent I am known to have: acting. My skill peaked at the time I took part in
my high school s musical, Godspell, and I played the main role: Jesus. I started acting officially my
freshman year. I felt like an outcast in school, and since I thought the theatre program was meant for
weird people, I decided to audition for a play. The basis of my talent started with The Merchant of
Venice by William Shakespeare, where I learned that there is more to acting than memorizing lines.
Going into my sophomore year, I took part in The Seagull by Anton Chekov. My theatre director took
me through a long acting exercise called The Meisner technique that challenged me to connect
emotionally with other actors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This significantly affected my skill level because I had to put together everything I had learned the
past year about acting into one week.
Theatre challenged me the most junior year. The first play that year was The Curious Savage by John
Patrick. The role I played helped me develop the skill to act as an antagonist different from the
comedic characters I had portrayed in the past.
Last but not least: Godspell by Stephen Schwartz. The first musical that my school produced in a long
time helped me demonstrate everything I learned and more! I had to memorize the most lines,
emotionally connect with everyone in the cast, and show that I had a harsh side even though I was the
protagonist.
For the past three years, I have developed an acting skill through dedication and perseverance.
Although I am not a theatre major, acting and theatre is where I found my best friends and who I

Technology In Agriculture
Agriculture has been an essential part of to the survival of humanity from the beginning, and we rely
on it now just as much as we did then. Fortunately, the technology used in agriculture has been
increased over time, and currently the Green Revolution is providing us with greater inputs of
fertilizer, water and pesticides, new crop strains, and increased technology as stated by Tillman and
others (2002). These advances modern agriculture is currently feed 6 million people, and it only
continues to increase (in both advances and in those fed). However, the global population is also
continuing to increase, allowing for there to be more agricultural output which are essential for social
stability and global politics as a whole. While this sounds good, doubling this food production comes
with major challenges. Tillman and others (2002) evaluate and explain these scientific and policy
challenges that are required to be met in order to sustain the entire agricultural production. This will
require fundamental shifts in institutions and policies because the concept of sustainable agriculture
must be adopted. Unfortunately, about half of the lands deemed usable by agriculturalists are already
in use, thus adding environmentally detrimental amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus to terrestrial
ecosystems at alarming rates. This makes sense when considering it is known that food production
uses fertilizers that contain phosphorus and nitrogen, and modern agriculture is dependent on

Arranged Marriage Culture
Every year, there are an average of 26,250,000 arranged marriages worldwide, and of those marriages,
11,250,000 involve girls under the age of 18 years old (STATS). The practice of arranged marriage has
been very prevalent in most cultures throughout history. For many women arranged marriage is a way
to stay safe and protected in countries where they are given very few rights, and in others cultures it is
used to created slaves for men to use however they wish. In countries, such as Africa, the role of tribes

In Marriage is a Private Affair by Chinua Achebe, the main character struggles with admitting to his
very traditional father that he will not take part of their tribes tradition of having an arranged marriage:
He turned over in his mind different ways of overcoming his father opposition (Achebe). The main
character, Nnaemeka, wants to marry a girl from the city where he lives and not the girl who his father
has chosen for him. He does not know the girl who his father has chosen and is in love with Nene, the
girl from the city. He is afraid of how his father is going to react and knows that it will not be a good
reaction. His father is very traditional like many tribes in Africa. His father is not happy when he
receives the news that his son does not want to marry who he has chosen: Whoever put this idea in
your head might as well have cut your throat. It is Satan s work (Achebe). His father does not know
why his son is making this decision. He decides he does not want anything to do with his son or his
soon to be wife and family. He is very stuck in the past and does not understand how marriage
traditions have changed. He wants everything to be the way it was when he was young and does not
want to give in to modern practices. The topic of arranged marriage has a pivotal role in this story as

Anterior Teats Research Paper
The anterior teats of a sow are generally preferred by piglets. On average, anterior teats yield more
colostrum which contain the antibodies needed to protect the newborn piglets from disease (Fraser and
Lin, 1983). Because colostrum is only produced by the sow for 24 48 hours and the concentration of
immunoglobulins decreases after birth, it is important for piglets to suckle and obtain as much
colostrum as possible (Wennberg, 2012). Previous studies have shown that piglets suckling from
anterior teats have greater chances of survival as well as larger weight gains (Orijuela and Solano,
1995). A problem, however, is that with only a few anterior teats, there is competition between
littermates for the better teats. With competition present, the piglets rely on certain advantageous traits
that make them better able to compete for the better teat. The larger piglets have an advantage over
smaller piglets when competing for the best teats. During struggles for the desirable teats, the bigger
piglets have more victories and therefore suckle at the anterior teats more than smaller piglets
(Rosillon Warnier and Paquay, 1984). In this fight for better teats, the ... Show more content on

A Whole New Economic Activity Essay
A whole new economic activity has now emerged because of Keggfarms, which till now was a
routine, redundant but a certain source of income even though meagre. The key results could be
underlined as: significant contribution to household income, gender Empowerment, alternate
livelihoods at several points, food security and environmental converter of rubbish into food. The
Govt of India, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, set up a committee headed by a senior
technocrat from NABARD to study the rural poultry scenario with a view to include this sector in the
venture capital fund of the department in the Tenth Five Year Plan. The study revealed that Kuroiler
farming in the traditional style was being extensively practiced in villages with substantial benefits to
rural stakeholders. NABARD presented bankable and venture capital funding for Kuroiler farming
projects in rural areas In 2009, a joint venture of FAO and NDDB (SAPPLPP) studied the impact of
the Keggfarms model of Kuroiler farming in rural India. Results indicated that very substantial
benefits were accruing to rural stakeholders. (Kapur Singh)
Innovation in distribution channel :
The most remarkable innovation by Keggfarms was the invention of a method for physically
distributing the chickens from the hatcheries to the often remote villages, which would require
unconventional methods that provided significant incentives for all of the links in a vast distribution

The Gap in Social Classes in Detroit
With Detroit being the most segregated city in the country, the center with the richest business
industries mixed along with the largest minority middle class anywhere, much controversy is
occurring and it is causing many issues to the surrounding metropolitan area. Due to such a large gap
in social classes, status frustration has led to a spike in racial tensions causing more crime. Because of
this Detroit has become a main focus of many local news reports. Many Detroit residents are
becoming upset with the fact that only negative reports have made the front covers of newspapers
giving Detroit a false image. This has been proven true with many television shows, movies, and
video game images. The previously aired show Detroit 1 8 7, an American crime drama about Detroit
s leading homicide unit, was taken off air because it gave a negative outlook on the Detroit area. The
show s producer, David Zabel stated that even though it was show about crime, there still was an
opportunity to give the city positive light because of the heroic people that do fight for the city s
justice. After reading many commentaries on this show, the conclusion that the people of Detroit say
the people of the city are not as mean and violent as the shows producers make them seem. In 1974,
Detroit was given the nickname of Murder City after more than 700 homicides were committed. Since

Both The Man I Killed and The Man He Killed deal with a touchy subject: the morals and ethics of
killing someone in war. The Man He Killed is set during WW1 and is told through the perspective of
an anonymous main character while The Man I Killed is set during the Vietnam war and is told
through the perspective of O Brien. The story may convey a similar message, but three things that set
the two works of literature apart are the setting, reaction, and the person. In The Man He Killed , a
soldier in WW1, presumably European, kills an enemy for his first time. This soldier s war was a
completely different beast than Nam. In WW1 the front line was obvious, their army was on one side

Art or art therapy has the power to help people in general in terms of expression and combating
depression. This is due to the fact that it is a way for people to express themselves when they are
unhappy in a less direct and creative manner that allows them to experience a sort of release of
negative emotions. The creative process of art itself is unlimited and vast. Its ideology is solely based
on self expression, which is free and unrestricting. Moreover, artistic communities tend to be less
judgmental on whether the art itself is right or wrong (Zahovaeva, 2014). Thus, it can be seen that
these are good reasons why a person with disabilities might want to join the artistic sphere. Scientific
research has shown that art does have meditative effects where it renders stress to relaxation in a
person s physiology. In different researches, changes in brain wave patterns, autonomic nervous
system, hormonal balance and brain neurotransmitter have occurred as a result of listening to music
(Zahovaeva, 2014). Art in medicine is not a new concept, ancient rites of healing were performed hand
in hand with music, dance and drama to emphasize the healing process (Zahovaeva, 2014). Within the
context of disability studies, this proves to be greatly advantageous because art is both beneficial in
terms of its ability to affect psychological as well as physiological side of people. Rubinstein, a

In a fiercely competitive economy, good social reputations are companies biggest asset. Copious
recent research established direct correlations between companies social responsibility and consumer
purchasing behaviours.
As consumers have more substitution options, it is easier to boycott unethical companies. In the recent
decade, Wal Mart has been entangled in a series of legal and ethical battle around the world. Hiring
illegal immigrant worker , refusing to pay overtime fee , discriminating against female worker , and
dumping hazardous waste into community are just a few negative publicities Wal Mart had acquired
within the last five years. It is estimated that Wal Mart receives an average of 1607 lawsuits annually.
However, despite constant criticisms that would otherwise bankrupt a company, Wal Mart s revenue is
steadily increasing at an astonishing 7.13 billion USD annually , making it the top company in the
world by sales revenue . This begs the question: What shields Wal Mart from storms of criticisms that
would otherwise cripple a business?
Wal Mart could not achieve its record revenues without its customers. Since marketing has the most

Day Of The Dead ( Or All Hallows Eve
The end of October and beginning of November two very different yet also seemingly similar
celebrations take place. Halloween (or All Hallows Eve) is celebrated on October 31 in several
countries including the USA. It has its roots in pagan celebrations for the end of the harvest season,
various festivals of the dead, and the Celtic Samhain festival. Day of the Dead (or Dia de los Muertos)
is a Mexican holiday, which is also celebrated in parts of Latin America and in the U.S., to remember
and pray for family and friends who have died. It takes place on November 1. Neither of these
holidays are religious in nature, but each holds their own unique set of symbols and traditions some of
which go back hundreds of years. Both of these holidays are in place to bring the living closer to the
dead and to connect the two realms.
The origin of Dia De Los Muertos can be traced back to indigenous cultures in Mexico dating back
2,500 to 3,000 years. These cultures would hold annual rituals lasting one full month and would be
purposed to celebrate, not mourn the dead. Though the reason for celebration is the same, the length is
not. Instead of celebrating for a full month, today the celebration only lasts for a few days. During
these few days families take the time to remember the deceased. The atmosphere is not somber
however; it resembles more of a picnic or celebration. People visit the graves of the deceased at their
respective cemeteries and build private altars. The creation of

Hemingway makes sure to be very descriptive and set the contrast between light meaning clean and
dark meaning dirty. He successfully places each character in a specific part of the story to enhance
their importance. The setting that Hemingway places the characters in allows the reader to picture
themselves inside of the café and learn a little about each character inside. Even though the reader
knows that the café isn t spotless, they can understand that because it is close to closing time and
everyone is gone except two waiters and the old man that it s a clean, well lighted place because of
how Hemingway describes that the street is now quiet and the dew was settling. The waiters are
significant to the story because they represent how the age of man is important to the story. The
younger waiter goes outside to the old man twice, meanwhile the older waiter chooses to stay inside
until it is time to close then makes his way to an unclean poorly lighted place. Later on in the story
once everyone has left the café, the older waiter goes through a setting that seems to be a bar. At that
time the reader is able to understand the difference between the bar, the café, and the bodega. By
Hemingway describing these two completely different settings as elaborately as he does, it allows the
reader to compare and contrast the different places and understand the importance of the café. During
this time period there was a war going on and the movement of the waiters shows the moral awareness
of what s going around them. The old man is at the café so late to find peace of mind, something that
he would have not been able to find by visiting a bodega. The soldier and the girl are important

Parenting Observation
Previously, I was aware that infants require a relationship with their caregiver in order to be healthy.
Infants are not able to provide themselves with their basic needs, but they also require a secure
attachment to be mentally sound. In the past, we theorized that allowing infants to cry without
providing them attention, or only allowing a wet nurse to care for them, increased their ability to be
self reliant later in life. Now, we understand that individuals who are self reliant are able to be
independent because they have their emotional and physical needs met. According to Erikson once
children have established trust, they can feel secure enough to develop autonomy. This means that the
Victorian era concept of refusing care for infants is not the most effective parenting tactic. However,
infants and toddlers are not the sole product of their environment. Nature and nurture work ... Show

The Power Of Technology
Technology has become detrimental to society, and the development of our future generations. Anyone
who uses technology in their daily lives should care about how influential technology has developed

important for society to understand the negative hindrance of technology, because, too many of us rely
on technology to establish our lives. The general public, should limit the use of technology, because it

A requirement of this method is that the acquirer must be identified in every business consolidation
clearly. Below are several key components changes in the acquisition method: Measurement of the
subsidiary s net identifiable assets is based on the fair value of the subsidiary as a whole, rather than
based on the cost of purchase at the acquisition date. The acquisition date is the closing date that the
purchaser obtains control of the acquired business. For example, the parent will still have full control
of the entire subsidiary even if they purchased less than 100% of the net identifiable assets. The parent
incorporates the full fair value of the subsidiary in the consolidated financial statements and then
allocates to the non controlling interest. The key difference between the purchase method and the
acquisition method is that in the acquisition method, all of the Fair Market Value increment and all of
the goodwill is recognized, including the portion attributable to the non controlling interest. The
reason behind this idea is that a business in control of another entity should be able to fully control

homework and stress was being annihilated and there was nothing I could do but wallow is my
disappointment and self doubt. This class quickly became my most involved and strenuous class. I
looked around the classroom only to see that I was not alone as the faces of my fellow classmates
showed the same shock and awe as my own. At the end of that atrocious semester, I concluded that
religion classes should not have grades, papers, or a mandatory attendance policy. Now, before I am

To the Lighthouse
Can art be permanent or express permanence? How do each character s creative power and artistic
works address the fleeting and permanence? Nothing stays, all changes, but not words, not paint In her
novel To the Lighthouse, Virginia Woolf examines the power of human creativity through the
character of Lily Briscoe. Lily is a struggling young artist, who resists convention in order to achieve
something lasting and beautiful through her painting. Lily, like the other characters in the novel, is
looking for meaning and purpose in life. Through her art, she comes closest to finding answers to her
questions about existence and immortality. As a woman artist, Lily has been forced to abandon her
traditional role in society, since, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ramsay thinks his grand philosophical contribution to the world seems family trivial when described
in letters of an alphabet. Mr. Ramsay sees himself as a hero struggling to reach the next letter; it to be
found dealt at his post, not having given up. He worries about fame. He seems self involved and small
minded for a moment, but the narrator ends the chapter sort of taking up for him, asking who can
blame the man for thinking of his reputation to admire the beauty of his wife and son. Then in part
three, Mr. Ramsay notes there are two types of thinkers: those who work their way from A to Z
diligently. Those few geniuses who simply arrive at Z in a single instant. Mr. Ramsay knows he does
not be long to the latter type, and resolves (or hopes) to fight his way to Z. Still he fears that his
reputation will fade after his death. He reminds himself that all fame is fleeting and that a single stone
will outlast Shakespeare. However, he hates to think he has made little real, lasting difference in the
world. Virginia Woolf makes Mrs.Ramsay s talent of bringing people together an art. It is a
momentary and evanescent sort of art, but an art nonetheless by virtue of the fact that it brings. She is
a sort of artist of conversations. She orchestrates the conversations of the table, makes sure everyone
is included, makes the separate people of the table come together for a moment and form a whole,
brings in those who feel low or out of it. After the dinner

Case 10 Nicholas Mysterious Suntan 1 Essay
Student s Name: Marylene Mosburg Date: 11/31/2014
BIO169 Case_10: Nicholas s Mysterious Suntan
This case study presents a clinical situation related to the endocrine system. The questions at the each
segment of the case will test your understanding of the endocrine system.
Nicholas T., age 32, is a busy systems analyst for a computer manufacturer. Working his way up the
corporate ladder, he travels extensively, putting in many hours without much sleep. Nicholas has a
tendency to be overweight but continues to eat fatty foods and does not have an exercise program. He
craves salty pretzels and potato chips. ? In recent months, however, he has often felt weak, and
occasionally experiences dizziness when moving from a lying down to a ... Show more content on

He experiences severe pains in his abdomen, back, and legs. ? Feeling extremely weak, he catches a
flight home, and contacts his family physician, Dr. Ortega. Dr. Ortega measures his blood pressure at
70/50 and then orders a series of laboratory tests. ? He asks Nicholas how long he has had the tan and
the other symptoms he describes. Nicholas indicates he only noticed them within the last year.
Q. What might cause the pain in the abdomen, back and legs? Electrocytes imbalances and/or
dehydration.
Q. The viral infection poses a kind of stress. Why might Nicholas have such a severe reaction? He is
already in a compromised state; people who are not healthy have bodies that are not equipped to
handle additional stressors.
Results of the lab tests on Nicholas are summarized below: low serum Na ( 130 mEq/l) high serum K (
5 mEq/l) ? ratio of serum Na:K ( 30:1) elevated hematocrit ? low WBC count decreased plasma
cortisol and aldosterone urine ? shows increased excretion of Na and decreased excretion of K low
levels of hydroxycorticosteroids in the urine
Q. How do the abnormal Na and K levels relate to adrenal function?
The mineralocorticoid (aldosterone) is normally released by the adrenal cortex in response to
decreased sodium and increased pottasium levels; the hormonally acts to promote the retention of Na
and the excretion of K. It isn t working; hence the abnormal serum levels.
Q. What does the high hematocrit means?
The ratio of the percentage of

A Streetcar Named Desire Stanley Analysis
Congratulations, Stanley! The play, A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams starts with
basically an introduction of the characters and Blanche showing up to visit the home of her sister
Stella. Stella lives with her husband, Stanley in a shabby two room flat in New Orleans. Blanche is
dressed like she is going to a cocktail party in the garden district (95), but really, she is down and out.
She pretends to be coming to visit, but she has no place else to go because she has lost the family
estate, her teaching job and her reputation. She comes uninvited and unannounced and stays for
months. The landlord, Eunice lets Blanche into the apartment and Blanche is appalled by the
conditions her sister, Stella is living in. When Stella ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In September, on Blanche s birthday, things have been going along pretty evenly with the players and
the prize. Stella has grown closer to Blanche, and Stella is defending Blanche by tells Stanley, lately
you been doing all you can think of to rub her the wrong way, Stanley, and . . . Blanche and I grew up
under very different circumstances than you did (134). This makes Stanley feel like he is losing the
game and therefore the prize and so he makes his own move to even up the score or even possibly to
pull ahead. He gives Stella all the dirt he has collected on Blanche. He tells her the Flamingo Hotel
threw her out and she s practically was told by the Major to get out of the town (135). Then he told
Stella that Blanche was fired from her teaching job because of a seventeen year old boy she d gotten
mixed up with! (135). When Stella asks Stanley if he told Mitch he says, right I told him. I d have that
on my conscience the rest of my life if I knew all that stuff and let my best friend get caught! (136).
Stella said she did not believe him, but it gave her a great deal of doubt about believing Blanche and
Stanley gets points and moves slightly past Blanche s game piece on the game board. After dinner
Stanley makes another move ahead on the game board by sweetly telling Stella that it s gonna be all
right after she goes and after you ve had the baby. It s gonna be all right again between you and me the
way that it was. You remember the way that it was? Them nights we had together? God, honey, it s
gonna be sweet when we can make noise in the night the way that we used to (139). One important
thing here is that Stanley has convinced Stella that he is telling the truth and he gives her reason to
doubt Blanche now and in the future. Stanley then makes a move that would surely lose him points
and he would have to move fifteen spaces backward on the game board were it not for what

Language, And How We Choose To Use Language To Communicate
Language, and how we choose to use language to communicate is taken for granted every day by a
substantial number of Americans. We do this because, we don t completely understand how important
language is. We take for granted how it s used to fit into society, influence others, or even stand up for
ourselves, and until we can put into perspective what it s like to have limited access to it, we will
continue to take part in this central way of thinking. The best way for a person to truly value language
as a tool is by putting oneself in the shoes of a person visiting/ living in America from another country
with a limited common language. I came to this realization by mistake. By making friends with people
from different parts of the world I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This story stresses the importance language has when fitting into a society, because not knowing it
brings about more difficulty than just being the new person . Haotian on the other hand, was in almost
the same situation as Wendy. Haitian, much like Wendy, suffered from problems associating with a
desired group. Speaking in broken English, he recalled a time where he went to TRAC and tried to
enjoy playing basketball along with the rest of the students in the gym. Because of his broken English
and lack of knowledge of the culture around him, they saw him as weak and excluded him from
playing. In a setting where one must rely heavily on speaking for themselves, Haotian suffered. He
went to the gym and heard people saying they got next [they are next to play], and wanted to say I
want to join you guys... can I get next too? [pick him to play next] and they told him sarcastically okay
okay, I will pick you but when their turn came around to play they change their mind, an Haotian was
upset. They told him oh bro we got the other [another] person so you re out. So, that hurt my feelings.
In hearing, how both friends spoke about their past it was easy to notice that they had grown from
their experiences and become much more confident in their language and along

Trial Validity
Discussion
Overall what the study shows is that as the time between cue and target increases people s
performance tends to shift inversely. This is displayed as shorter instances (100ms) found individuals
responding faster, relative to when they were longer (500ms) to which individuals would respond
slower if they appeared on the same side, with only a minor increase when they appeared on the
opposite. Another interesting finding from the study was that trail validity had no statistically
significant effect on response times, essentially meaning that how likely a target was to appear had no
real effect on how well individuals performed in the study.
Trial Validity
As previously mentioned, one of the key findings from the current study was that ... Show more

Furthermore, seeing that the current study only variates the SOA 50ms below and 200ms from
previous research it would be interesting to see if the IOR continues to increase under circumstance
with higher SOA s. Another interesting insight of this study was the lack of trial validity effect, which
is either indicating that the processes used are a complex combination of the two or plausibly that the
measures used in this research weren t capable of seeing the difference. Future research should aim to
rectify this issue.
Overall this study provides some interesting insight into the field as it found that even in scenarios
were the cues offer no insight into the next location of the target, the same IOR effect can be seen.
This research found that trial validity appeared to have no effect on performance, implying that
individuals do not simply shift attention to or from but rather do a complex combination of the

Social Structure And Social Structures
Social structures are the most important aspects of human society. Social structure is the foundation
upon which human society is created from. Therefore, it is necessary that we understand what social
structures actually are. These structures are what organize the social relationships and institutions
within a society, making it possible for the existence of a society. As a result, the question of how and
why social structures matter are important in understanding how social structures work. Therefore,
social structures are important because they force us to take on new perspectives in the analysis of
everyday experiences, produce the social structures and institutions that control us, analyze the
manifest and latent functions they serve, observe the objectivity of social reality and finally they allow
for an intimate evaluation of ones self and social position. Consequently, social structure is relevant in
my daily life because it has forced me to change how I look at myself and my own experiences and
more importantly the power that the historical context and its social structures exert on my personal
consciousness. As a result, Mills makes the argument that we are falsely led to believe that our current
social position in society is due to our own effort and doing. This argument reflects social reality and it
is the result of the social structures that are present in society, and the interplay between societal
history and biography. According to Mills, the ability to

Analyzing The Film Raiders Of The Lost Ark
This was my first time watching Raiders of the Lost Ark let alone any Indiana Jones movie. It took a
hill to finally find the film online but when I did i was exited to see the film, every website I went was
giving it 9/10 ratings or 5/5 I don t recall seeing anything less then a 4 or 9. Then after seeing Stephen
Spielberg directed and George Lucas helped write the film I knew there was going to be thrill, action,
comedy and everything else it takes to make a Great film. The film starts by introducing Dr. Henry
leading an exploration team through a thick jungle of South America, as he comes to a stop one of the
group members pulls out a gun behind him, Dr. Henry hears the gun get loaded and slowly grabs his
whip. Before you know it you see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone is then killed leaving Jones and Marion free but exhausted from the high energy. The movie
then skips to a couple weeks later where Jones is taking to the two Army officers that sent him on the
expedition, they talk about the powers the Ark has and understand whats at stake. They then show the
Ark stored in a government warehouse and is the last scene of the film. The movie was very well
written it had me on the edge of my seat with all the action going on. It was also funny in ironic way
how things would end up for Jones and also added humor to the action film. The movie was generally
not dark unless they were in a car or spooky place, the action scenes didn t have much special effects
but didn t need it either. Most of the explosions, car chases, temples destroying and etc. looked real
and worked well. Steven Spielberg did a great job directing the film as well with good angles and
scenes like the opening his film style had a great effect on the

Searches are essentially invasions of someone s privacy and, therefore, are stringently regulated by the Fourth Amendment. A seizure is a taking by law enforcement or other government agent of contraband, evidence of a crime, or even a person into custody (Harr et al., 2015, p. 199). • 7. The British And French Armies The British and French Armies adopted and modified this tactic as well to meet their battlefield needs. They developed time standards based on terrain. Optimally, the artillery and infantry should simultaneously advance approximately 100 yards every one to six minutes. Eventually shell variants were used for concealment as well. Originally only shrapnel shells were used. As the tactic progressed, artillery would fire smoke ahead of the high explosive rounds giving ultimate cover to the advancing infantry (Griffith, 141). After these tactics were employed during the battle in the Argonne forest, allied forces advanced quickly towards their objective and within ten days had beaten the German Army into almost full retreat. Never before had the American or allied forces fought a battle of such scale. However, once commanders that were not present at the battle relinquished control to Generals on the ground, the battle took a turn. New tactics were introduced, ill performing commanders were replaced, and Soldiers were given a chance to rest. Those factors gave allied forces the means necessary to continue successfully in the battle in the Argonne forest. During the Great War, the Army predominantly used the oldest of intelligence techniques. Espionage was dangerous and often lead to the death of those soldiers and spies behind enemy lines. The time to deliver important and relevant information to the front lines took time. The first large scale use of Army radio intelligence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction Such readers respond first of all, and sometimes only, to their reading on an emotional level; the work affects them, producing joy or revulsion, laughter or tears, anxiety or elation (Page xxvii). I use to not analyze works because I would think that this factor would alleviate the experience of reading books. I still think that analyzing books as a piece of work instead of reading for the emotional level somewhat takes the joy out of the experience. • 10. Consequences Of Statistical Inferences Providing A Result Consequences of statistical inferences providing a result rather than an answer could include researchers incorrectly applying related management implications to their studies, when in reality they are applying a treatment that was not correctly interpreted. This could result in the new study producing a non significant result when a biologically significant result should have been detected. Researchers desperate for a significant P value may claim an observation that was not present in the study, or perform researchers degrees of freedom, which is defined as decision making as researchers conduct the study, and not beforehand. b. Truth cannot be derived from a single study; it must be repeated to increase the precision of the study and therefore the strength of inference made about the results. Often, using the same sample and similar methods will not procure similar results, and therefore a consensus of studies should be provided to make a general claim. Studies that truly follow the scientific method and include randomization and repeatability will be closer to discovering the truth than other studies. c. Pros And Cons Of Aging Out You come home on your 18th birthday, and rather than your mom and dad waiting to greet you and celebrate this milestone with you, your bags are packed and waiting next to the door. For many foster children, this is a reality. Take John; for example, John is currently a senior at the L N STEM Academy who has recently turned 18. Unlike most people, turning 18 wasn t a happy occasion for him to look forward to. As he neared his 18th birthday, he was not fantasizing about all the freedom he would soon have. Instead, he was trying to figure out where he would live. Every year more than 23,000 children will age out of the foster care system (Gaille). This can be incredibly straining as most children who age out are still in high school and don t have time for a full time job, and typically, they have not built up a credit score. Without any source of income or a credit score, it can be nearly impossible for these children to find an apartment or other housing. Some take up couch hopping, spending nights on various friends couches for a few months, but, overall, 1/3 of foster children who age out spend their first night on the streets, and 1 in 5 are homeless within two years of aging out (Stout). Aging out also comes with issues regarding education. Emancipated adolescents are three times more likely to never receive a high school diploma or GED, with only 57% graduating high school by 19. Moreover, 1 in 4 emancipated young adults will be incarcerated within two years, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This report was done by two medical doctors who each had Phds from the Harvard School of Public Health. They explained how the milk everyday was promoted because of the sugar content in milk that got kids to drink it. They also explained how humans have no nutritional requirement from milk and countries that do not consume milk have a much lower bone fracture rate than countries that do consume milk. They also provide results from a meta analysis that showed that milk consumption had no benefit for bone protection in adults. A meta analysis is a combined report of multiple scientific studies. The classic manifestation of paralysis is the effect of polio virus on the spine (Paul, 1971). Ancient records mention crippling diseases compatible with poliomyelitis. A weakness of the lower limbs in children that was identifiable as poliomyelitis was first described by Michael Underwood in 1789. The first outbreaks were reported in the early 19th century and in 1843 in Europe and the United States respectively. For the next century, polio epidemics were reported from developed countries in the Northern Hemisphere each summer and fall. As years passed, the severity of the epidemics and the average age of persons affected increased (Birmingham et al.,1997). This led to an increase in the number of deaths as a resulting from polio. • 19. The Historical Prevalence Of Bisexuality Essay The historical prevalence of bisexuality is hard to determine because same sex sexual activity has traditionally been very stigmatized; furthermore bisexuality is often ignored in historical discussions of sexual orientation. Nonetheless, over the past few decades, the status quo with regard to same sex sexual activity has changed drastically. The repeal of anti gay laws and the 2003 supreme court decision Lawrence v. Texas which eliminated all remaining sodomy laws in the United States, the removal of homosexuality from its designation as a sexual disorder in the DSM, the existence of high profile LGBTQ figures, and the push for, and legalization of gay marriage in the United States and other western countries have all been significant contributing factors toward the normalization of same sex sexual activity. The general public has experienced increased exposure to the LGBTQ community, and as a result, acceptance of sexual minorities, including bisexual individuals, has grown. In spite of the progress toward acceptance of bisexual individuals, many people still view sexual orientation as dichotomous, which contributes to the erasure and/or invisibility of the bisexual community (Alarie Gaudet 2013). Some also perceive bisexuality as a transitional identity between heterosexuality and homosexuality, or believe that people who identify as bisexual are just too afraid to come out as homosexual (Israel and Mohr 2003; Alarie Gaudet 2013). When I was on stage that night, singing and making the audience believe all the pain felt real, I demonstrated the greatest talent I am known to have: acting. My skill peaked at the time I took part in my high school s musical, Godspell, and I played the main role: Jesus. I started acting officially my freshman year. I felt like an outcast in school, and since I thought the theatre program was meant for weird people, I decided to audition for a play. The basis of my talent started with The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare, where I learned that there is more to acting than memorizing lines. Tillman and others (2002) evaluate and explain these scientific and policy challenges that are required to be met in order to sustain the entire agricultural production. This will require fundamental shifts in institutions and policies because the concept of sustainable agriculture must be adopted. On average, anterior teats yield more colostrum which contain the antibodies needed to protect the newborn piglets from disease (Fraser and Lin, 1983). Because colostrum is only produced by the sow for 24 48 hours and the concentration of immunoglobulins decreases after birth, it is important for piglets to suckle and obtain as much colostrum as possible (Wennberg, 2012). Previous studies have shown that piglets suckling from anterior teats have greater chances of survival as well as larger weight gains (Orijuela and Solano, 1995). A problem, however, is that with only a few anterior teats, there is competition between littermates for the better teats. With competition present, the piglets rely on certain advantageous traits that make them better able to compete for the better teat. The larger piglets have an advantage over smaller piglets when competing for the best teats. This is due to the fact that it is a way for people to express themselves when they are unhappy in a less direct and creative manner that allows them to experience a sort of release of negative emotions. The creative process of art itself is unlimited and vast. Its ideology is solely based on self expression, which is free and unrestricting. Moreover, artistic communities tend to be less judgmental on whether the art itself is right or wrong (Zahovaeva, 2014). Halloween (or All Hallows Eve) is celebrated on October 31 in several countries including the USA. Day of the Dead (or Dia de los Muertos) is a Mexican holiday, which is also celebrated in parts of Latin America and in the U.S., to remember and pray for family and friends who have died. It takes place on November 1. Neither of these holidays are religious in nature, but each holds their own unique set of symbols and traditions some of which go back hundreds of years. Both of these holidays are in place to bring the living closer to the dead and to connect the two realms. The origin of Dia De Los Muertos can be traced back to indigenous cultures in Mexico dating back 2,500 to 3,000 years. These cultures would hold annual rituals lasting one full month and would be purposed to celebrate, not mourn the dead. Though the reason for celebration is the same, the length is not. Instead of celebrating for a full month, today the celebration only lasts for a few days. During these few days families take the time to remember the deceased. Even though the reader knows that the café isn t spotless, they can understand that because it is close to closing time and everyone is gone except two waiters and the old man that it s a clean, well lighted place because of how Hemingway describes that the street is now quiet and the dew was settling. Although his plans fell through and the 13,000 eager blacks were unable to colonize from the denial of the government, Lincoln s kind gestures and ideas help with him as an ... • 44. Reflection About Religion I Thought Religion was Supposed to be Simple! I remember being a young, naïve boy getting ready to venture off to my first semester of college at the Lord s school: Brigham Young University. I was ready to live away from home, stay out however late I felt, and eat as much ice cream as I wanted with no repercussions. Life was going to be amazing! My dreams were soon shattered as I was bombarded with homework and essays from all my other classes, but there was a light at the end of the tunnel: Religion. I was especially excited to embark on the journey of religion as it had always played an important role in my life and I couldn t wait to explore seemingly endless verses of scripture and prophecy. I sat in my new religion class jittering, for the long awaited moment had finally come. The professor began class and I was immediately blind sided by a barrage of essays, readings, and study packets. This couldn t be right! I sat and listened in horror only to find that my safe haven from homework and stress was being annihilated and there was nothing I could do but wallow is my disappointment and self doubt. This class quickly became my most involved and strenuous class. I looked around the classroom only to see that I was not alone as the faces of my fellow classmates showed the same shock and awe as my own. At the end of that atrocious semester, I concluded that religion classes should not have grades, papers, or a mandatory attendance policy. Now, before I am cast out and ... Lily is a struggling young artist, who resists convention in order to achieve something lasting and beautiful through her painting. As a woman artist, Lily has been forced to abandon her traditional role in society, since, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ramsay thinks his grand philosophical contribution to the world seems family trivial when described in letters of an alphabet. Mr. Ramsay sees himself as a hero struggling to reach the next letter; it to be found dealt at his post, not having given up. He worries about fame. He seems self involved and small minded for a moment, but the narrator ends the chapter sort of taking up for him, asking who can blame the man for thinking of his reputation to admire the beauty of his wife and son. Then in part three, Mr. Ramsay notes there are two types of thinkers: those who work their way from A to Z diligently. Those few geniuses who simply arrive at Z in a single instant. Mr. Ramsay knows he does not be long to the latter type, and resolves (or hopes) to fight his way to Z. Still he fears that his reputation will fade after his death. He reminds himself that all fame is fleeting and that a single stone will outlast Shakespeare. However, he hates to think he has made little real, lasting difference in the world. Virginia Woolf makes Mrs.Ramsay s talent of bringing people together an art. It is a momentary and evanescent sort of art, but an art nonetheless by virtue of the fact that it brings. She is a sort of artist of conversations. She orchestrates the conversations of the table, makes sure everyone is included, makes the separate people of the table come together for a moment and form a whole, brings in those who feel low or out of it. • 47. A Streetcar Named Desire Stanley Analysis Congratulations, Stanley! The play, A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams starts with basically an introduction of the characters and Blanche showing up to visit the home of her sister Stella. Stella lives with her husband, Stanley in a shabby two room flat in New Orleans. Blanche is dressed like she is going to a cocktail party in the garden district (95), but really, she is down and out. She pretends to be coming to visit, but she has no place else to go because she has lost the family estate, her teaching job and her reputation. She comes uninvited and unannounced and stays for months. The landlord, Eunice lets Blanche into the apartment and Blanche is appalled by the conditions her sister, Stella is living in. Stella has grown closer to Blanche, and Stella is defending Blanche by tells Stanley, lately you been doing all you can think of to rub her the wrong way, Stanley, and . . . Blanche and I grew up under very different circumstances than you did (134). This makes Stanley feel like he is losing the game and therefore the prize and so he makes his own move to even up the score or even possibly to pull ahead. He gives Stella all the dirt he has collected on Blanche. He tells her the Flamingo Hotel threw her out and she s practically was told by the Major to get out of the town (135). Then he told Stella that Blanche was fired from her teaching job because of a seventeen year old boy she d gotten mixed up with! (135). When Stella asks Stanley if he told Mitch he says, right I told him. I d have that on my conscience the rest of my life if I knew all that stuff and let my best friend get caught! (136). Stella said she did not believe him, but it gave her a great deal of doubt about believing Blanche and Stanley gets points and moves slightly past Blanche s game piece on the game board. After dinner Stanley makes another move ahead on the game board by sweetly telling Stella that it s gonna be all right after she goes and after you ve had the baby. It s gonna be all right again between you and me the way that it was. You remember the way that it was? Them nights we had together? God, honey, it s gonna be sweet when we can make noise in the night the way that we used to (139). One important thing here is that Stanley has convinced Stella that he is telling the truth and he gives her reason to doubt Blanche now and in the future. Stanley then makes a move that would surely lose him points and he would have to move fifteen spaces backward on the game board were it not for what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Language, And How We Choose To Use Language To Communicate Language, and how we choose to use language to communicate is taken for granted every day by a substantial number of Americans. We do this because, we don t completely understand how important language is. We take for granted how it s used to fit into society, influence others, or even stand up for ourselves, and until we can put into perspective what it s like to have limited access to it, we will continue to take part in this central way of thinking. The best way for a person to truly value language as a tool is by putting oneself in the shoes of a person visiting/ living in America from another country with a limited common language. I came to this realization by mistake. By making friends with people from different parts of the world I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This story stresses the importance language has when fitting into a society, because not knowing it brings about more difficulty than just being the new person . Haotian on the other hand, was in almost the same situation as Wendy. Haitian, much like Wendy, suffered from problems associating with a desired group. Speaking in broken English, he recalled a time where he went to TRAC and tried to enjoy playing basketball along with the rest of the students in the gym. Because of his broken English and lack of knowledge of the culture around him, they saw him as weak and excluded him from playing. In a setting where one must rely heavily on speaking for themselves, Haotian suffered. He went to the gym and heard people saying they got next [they are next to play], and wanted to say I want to join you guys... can I get next too? [pick him to play next] and they told him sarcastically okay okay, I will pick you but when their turn came around to play they change their mind, an Haotian was upset. They told him oh bro we got the other [another] person so you re out. So, that hurt my feelings. • 49. Trial Validity Discussion Overall what the study shows is that as the time between cue and target increases people s performance tends to shift inversely. This is displayed as shorter instances (100ms) found individuals responding faster, relative to when they were longer (500ms) to which individuals would respond slower if they appeared on the same side, with only a minor increase when they appeared on the opposite. Another interesting finding from the study was that trail validity had no statistically significant effect on response times, essentially meaning that how likely a target was to appear had no real effect on how well individuals performed in the study. Furthermore, seeing that the current study only variates the SOA 50ms below and 200ms from previous research it would be interesting to see if the IOR continues to increase under circumstance with higher SOA s. Another interesting insight of this study was the lack of trial validity effect, which is either indicating that the processes used are a complex combination of the two or plausibly that the measures used in this research weren t capable of seeing the difference. Future research should aim to rectify this issue. Overall this study provides some interesting insight into the field as it found that even in scenarios were the cues offer no insight into the next location of the target, the same IOR effect can be seen. This research found that trial validity appeared to have no effect on performance, implying that individuals do not simply shift attention to or from but rather do a complex combination of the ... • 50. Social Structure And Social Structures Social structures are the most important aspects of human society. Social structure is the foundation upon which human society is created from. Therefore, it is necessary that we understand what social structures actually are. These structures are what organize the social relationships and institutions within a society, making it possible for the existence of a society. As a result, the question of how and why social structures matter are important in understanding how social structures work. Therefore, social structures are important because they force us to take on new perspectives in the analysis of everyday experiences, produce the social structures and institutions that control us, analyze the manifest and latent functions they serve, observe the objectivity of social reality and finally they allow for an intimate evaluation of ones self and social position. Consequently, social structure is relevant in my daily life because it has forced me to change how I look at myself and my own experiences and more importantly the power that the historical context and its social structures exert on my personal consciousness. As a result, Mills makes the argument that we are falsely led to believe that our current social position in society is due to our own effort and doing. This argument reflects social reality and it is the result of the social structures that are present in society, and the interplay between societal history and biography. According to Mills, the ability to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Analyzing The Film Raiders Of The Lost Ark This was my first time watching Raiders of the Lost Ark let alone any Indiana Jones movie. It took a hill to finally find the film online but when I did i was exited to see the film, every website I went was giving it 9/10 ratings or 5/5 I don t recall seeing anything less then a 4 or 9. Then after seeing Stephen Spielberg directed and George Lucas helped write the film I knew there was going to be thrill, action, comedy and everything else it takes to make a Great film. The film starts by introducing Dr. Henry leading an exploration team through a thick jungle of South America, as he comes to a stop one of the group members pulls out a gun behind him, Dr. Henry hears the gun get loaded and slowly grabs his whip. They then show the Ark stored in a government warehouse and is the last scene of the film. The movie was very well written it had me on the edge of my seat with all the action going on. It was also funny in ironic way how things would end up for Jones and also added humor to the action film. The movie was generally not dark unless they were in a car or spooky place, the action scenes didn t have much special effects but didn t need it either. Most of the explosions, car chases, temples destroying and etc. looked real and worked well.
