Question: What Is Psychology?
One of the most common questions asked by students new to the study of psychology is What is
psychology? Misperceptions created by popular media as well as the diverse careers paths of those
holding psychology degrees have contributed this confusion.
Psychology is both an applied and academic field that studies the human mind and behavior. Research
in psychology seeks to understand and explain thought, emotion, and behavior. Applications of
psychology include mental health treatment, performance enhancement, self help, ergonomics, and
many other areas affecting health and daily life.

Essay about Ntc 362 Week 5 Individual Assignment
Final Paper
NTC/362
Introduction
Kudler Fine Foods has established that they want to design a WAN to tie three different locations
together and make the internal network in each store a Wireless Local Area Network. Then, they are
requesting Voice Over Internet Protocol to each multi store network. Various protocols make all this
happen. Transfer Control Protocol and Internet Protocol are the foundation of data transfer. TCP is the
protocol that the internet, email and ftp highly rely on. Without TCP/IP there would be no internet,
email or FTP. Two other protocols designed to process packets throughout the network are X.25 and
Frame Relay. For this scenario Frame Relay will be used so I will not provide a brief description about
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frame Relay does have some draw backs such as error checking packets. This can be a huge deal if
there is a lot of traffic on the network because it will not detect corrupt packets. Which means
individual packets could be lost when transmitted. Frame Relay relies on the end station to send the
SYN/ACK back. If a SYN/ACK does not come back then the Frame Relay protocol will just drop the
frame. From each individual router a T1 line will be used to help reach the desired bandwidth from
server to a switch. From this point you will have to use leased lines which will affect the budget of the
project. With the implemented plan, the goal was to keep the desired bandwidth and allow room for
growth.
Latency, Jitter, Response Time
I also targeted the area of Latency. With all the users connected to the router and the router
transmitting data to the switch and then so forth until it reaches its destination, there is going to be a
degrade in Latency. Three variables that will keep this network maintained and keep the desired
processing speed and bandwidth are Latency, Jitter, and Response Time. Latency has already been
discussed however, Jitter can resemble Latency somewhat. Jitter will occur when packets pass through
the network nodes with varying latencies. This usually occurs when the bandwidth is maxed out or is
low and the network path needs to be manipulated. Response Time deals with the individual
components and the amount of time it takes for them to respond giving the

Oscar Wao Character Analysis
The Composition of Strength Although when one sees an Olympic runner finishing their marathon or
a professional body builder lifting weights the first thought that comes to mind is, They must be strong
, the composition of this strength is never contemplated. That Olympic runner is not just putting on
foot in front of the other, he is also pushing through his pain and maintaining constant view of his
goal. This is the main type of ingredient in the strength dish, mental power. Overall strength is not
only physical, but mainly mental. The initial decision to exercise and how one builds physical
endurance and strength are purely a result of mental power. In the novel The Brief Wondrous Life of

When dealing with depression one must have a large amount of mental strength and stability to fight
off the symptoms and avoid giving into the depression. In the novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar
Wao, Oscar battled depression for a while after moving to the U.S. living in his apartment. One day
Oscar could not take it and he let his thoughts overcome him, he managed to get to a ledge and, ...He
threw himself into the darkness... (176). Oscar was in a very difficult situation, as are all other people
with depression, and his mental strength was overcome by thoughts of suicide. The mental power of
the suicidal thoughts was enough to cause Oscar to nearly kill himself. No matter how much more
muscle Oscar were to have had, they alone would not have saved him from his nearly fatal jump.
Oscar simply lost the mental battle with depression which ended up being the only battle necessary for
Oscar to have lost for his defeat in his war with depression. If a person is dealing with depression and
has any hope to defeat depression, they must exercise. As mentioned earlier, exercise does not result
from any physical needs; the human body will not exercise on its own if one is overweight. When
someone with depression makes the decision to exercise and engages in the activity, they will receive
the mental benefits of exercise necessary to overcome depressive thoughts. This mental benefit is the
release of feel good endorphins , according to Depression and Anxiety: Exercise Eases Symptoms by
Mayo Clinic Staff. When someone exercises the brain releases natural chemicals that produce effects
similar to cannabis. This release is to numb any pain or any form of discomfort one might feel after
exercising. These chemicals are released in excess and along with being enough to relieve discomfort,
the excess is enough to help battle symptoms of depression. The person with depression who

Confucius s Influence On Chinese Philosophy
Confucius, also referred to his Chinese name, Kongzi, is credited for paving a path for the beginning
of Chinese philosophy and is arguably the most famous Chinese philosopher in history. Confucius
believed in the process of self cultivation to become a better, more Good of a person, the idea of
treating your family with the highest respect, also known as filial piety, and keeping traditions alive
with many rituals. Although Confucius has had an immense influence on Chinese philosophy and is
even seen as a present day reference for philosophers all over the world, the Chinese philosopher Mozi
was also an influential figure after the death of Confucius. Mohism is evidently more of an excelling
school of thought to prevent extreme crime in a dystopian Chinese society rather than Confucianism
because there is much emphasis on a strong hierarchy system and acknowledgement of the lower class
under Mohism which is crucial for a society filled with much crime. On the other hand, Confucianism
believes heavily in rituals and traditions which may devalue the state of the theoretical unstable
Chinese society and may be even the cause of the crimes within it. Confucius advocated strongly for
the use of rituals to continue traditional beliefs. He said that a reliable person is someone who is
broadly learned with regard to culture, and whose conduct is restrained by the rites and would surely
not go astray. 1 Traditional beliefs are vital for finding yourself as a person and

Scottsboro Boys Research Paper
The Scottsboro Boys The Scottsboro Boys trial was an important piece of history because it was a big
part and steeping stone of the Civil Rights movement, it also showed a great example of racial
inequality. No crime in American history let alone a crime that never occurred produced as many
trials, convictions, reversals, and retrials as did an alleged gang rape of two white girls by nine black
teenagers on a Southern Railroad freight run on March 25, 1931. On the night of March 25th, 1931,
nine young black men were on their way to find work. They were riding in a freight train to find work.
However, they were riding the train illegally and were found after getting into a fight with two white
hobos. The crew found them and called the sheriff and when the sheriff arrived there were two young
white prostitutes riding in a completely different train car than the black men. Once the sheriff saw the
women, Ruby Bates and Victoria Price, he told them that he knew they were prostitutes and if they
didn t accuse the black men of raping them he would take them to jail. So the women were scared of
being caught and accused the nine black men, Charlie Weems, Ozie Powell, Clarence Norris, Olen
Montgomery, Willie Roberson, Haywood Patterson, Eugene Williams, and Andrew and Leroy Wright,
of assaulting and raping them on the train. They were taken to trial for rape allegations in Jackson
County Seat, Scottsboro, Alabama. Despite the fact that the fourteenth amendment had been voted

Should Pennies Be Eliminated Research Paper
Benchmark A
In my opinion, i think pennies should be eliminated. I believe this because they don t have enough
value in it so they are just in a piggy bank not being used. Another reason why pennies should be
removed from the money system is because it takes up too much time to count all of them. Pennies are
unnecessary to have they are just taking up space in our pockets, just to make a penny 1.5 cents which
is the same as a penny. these are my reasons why i believe pennies should not be made anymore
Pennies are not useful because of their value Their is no purpose of having it on the money system. 1
cent is nothing when your going to go grocery shopping. Therefore, many people don t like to use
pennies they just let it take up space

The next big step of changing how we transport to everyday places, and to this we added wheels and
turned sledges into carts. Everyone makes mistakes and nothing can be exactly perfect, so that means
that we try things and and eventually get it right, and we do this by learning from our mistakes. Earlier

It had a lot of power and with that being used it could pull a lot of weight around because it s more
powerful. Rudolf Diesel spent months and months on reading, and studying engines, and trying to see
if there is a better way of making an engine that far surpasses the normal standard engine that
everyone knows, so he spent all that time thinking of a way to make a better engine. Rudolf Diesel
was both a thinker and a doer . Confined to hospital after an accident, he spent months poring over
books and papers by people like Carnot and Otto. All That time he spent time he was in the hospital
studying, making theories on how he would make a better engine than what everyone else had he
wanted to have some thing that could pull almost anything, and something that could last a long time.
So he had began preparations, and he gathered up all of his Notes that he wrote while he was stuck in
the hospital, and then he soon started on began working on his first prototype Engine that he believed
would be way better than the standard Engine that everybody had. He soon came to the conclusion
that he could build a far better engine than the puny gasoline machines Benz and Daimler had
designed and knocked up a prototype, an enormous 3 m (10 ft) high machine, in the early 1890s. So
After his first Diesel engine prototype was made , it was high and tall and for an engine it had a lot of
power and could be used to do almost anything, and compared to a normal engine this enormous
diesel engine, the normal engine was puny. So When Diesel was making his engine he wanted his
engine to be the best that it could ever be so he practically thought of everything, So prototype could
practically run on any sort of fuel because he wanted everyone to use it and he had to think of
everything that the person owning this engine could want. this first diesel

All kids in America have to attend school. Teachers in the school want what is best for the kids. There
has been a debate about whether or not we should have ability grouping in schools. Some people
believe that we should not have ability grouping, while others believe that we should have ability
grouping in schools. Regular schools without ability grouping do not have enough one on one time
with the students and the teachers. According to Digital Promise, teachers would be able to give more
support to the students who need it. With ability grouping it allows students to move at their own pace.
According to New Approaches to Learning it states that the kids that do not understand the concept

I believe that students in elementary school should not be allowed to advance to the next grade if they
are failing because if they do then they will not be able to pass grade that they will be going in to. The
student will not understand the new stuff that is being handed to them. He or she will have a harder
time understanding what is being taught. The student will keep moving forward and won t learn

Development Of The Company S Marketing Strategy
2. DEVELOPMENT OF THE COMPANY S MARKETING STRATEGY
The population of the United Kingdom has been healthily rising, with an increased annual rate of
between 0.6% and 0.8% between 2009 all the way to 2013, hence reaching a projected target of 64.1
million. This increment in population was realized in the UK, mainly because of UK s high birth rate
as well as the ageing population. The growth of population will consequently boost consumer
spending, which means that more toys will be on demand. The result of this is high sales of the
building and Construction Company and the growth of the whole economy. Practically, the increment
in population in the UK means that there will be a consistent number of children in the UK, which is a

Nowadays, the uptake of digital and electronic products commence at a very younger age as children
mature at a younger age than it was some few years ago. Therefore, the building and construction kit
industry should produce greater and better market innovation and products in a bid to maintain
competitiveness in a market that is already saturated with innovations and to specifically outsmart its
competitor, Lego Bricks and More creative suitcase.
The building and construction industry should focus a lot on the infant/pre school toys and games,
which account for the greatest market share in the UK toys and games market, accounting for 440.1
million pounds, which represents a 19.7% of the total. As the infant/pre school toys and games mainly
targets children of two years and below, the company should go for toys that suit the children. The
company should preferably opt for the building and construction kit or game which, in 2013, was seen
to get the highest number of returns. The sales for activity toys amounted to 341.8 million pounds,
which represents 15% of the total toys and games sold in the UK in 2013. Dolls, games and puzzles
should also be considered by the company as they are also greatly bought and utilized in the UK.

Although King and Malcolm X both trued to infused power and strength within the

The Development Of The Pair Bond
In our culture the relationship most often discussed when describing human interaction and that which
is considered the most ideal or normal relationship (demonstrated by cultural morality and various
forms of media) is that of the male female couple. This pair bonding is a phenomenon that exists to
some degree in the natural world, but occurs most prominently in humans. The development of the
pair bond is one of the single most important aspects of human evolution, culture, and relationships as
we understand them today. This behavior has driven human sociality, reproduction, and cultural
development through evolutionary, physiological, and psychological means. By understanding and
assessing the history and evolution of pair bonding, the means by which our cultural foundations were
established can be discovered. To determine how the pair bond has been established, one must look at
the various evolutionary pressures that lead to this type of behavior. As Herbert (2005) explains, the
reproductive strategies of organisms are often defined by biologists as r or K strategies. The former
tend to be smaller and live in unstable environments with their reproductive strategy being to produce
as many offspring as possible (potentially only once in their lifetime), many of them dying before
reaching the reproductive age of their already short life expectancy. The offspring with the highest
fitness are the ones that survive to this reproductive stage. In contrast, K strategists

The Cask Of Amontillado By Edgar Poe
Amontillado is a classically known amber colored, medium dry sherry wine, and in the case of Poe s
The Cask of Amontillado, it is the taste for Amontillado that results in the unfortunate and rather
untimely death of Fortunato at the hands of the maniacal Montresor. Revenge is something that no one
should have to experience; however, sadly sometimes, it is an inevitability that cannot be avoided. The
Cask of Amontillado exposes Poe s dark side and cruelty towards society and the world. In this short
story, Poe tells about a rich drunk man, Fortunato, picking on a not so rich friend, Montresor, but
things quickly take a turn when Montresor decides to take out his revenge against his pal. Poe uses
ethos, logos, and pathos deeply throughout his storyline to enhance the story and better the
imagination of the characters, the deep meaning behind the setting, and the Amontillado s secret.
Fortunato for example was an awkward, clumsy, and egotistical drunk, whose main concern was when
he would take his next drink. Michael Lewis suggests that Fortunato did not mean to mistreat
Montresor or disturb his happiness, but his decisions to drown away his sorrows opened up a can of
worms for Fortunato (Lewis, Explicator). Fortunato was over indulging on sherry to build his
confidence while stripping that of the other gentlemen, particularly Montresor. Now, for Montresor,
Fortunato s alcoholism was no excuse for his constant barrage of misdirected insults. Consequently,

Summary Of The Interlopers And The Machine That Won The War
The Interlopers and The Machine That Won the War are two short stories that have many differences,
but have a few similarities as well. The Interlopers is a short tale depicting a feud between two young
men, Ulrich von Gradwitz and Georg Znaeym. Georg believes that the land currently under Ulrich s
name actually belongs to him, therefore steals game from Ulrich s land just to spite him (Saki 82 83).
After confronting each other, it is made clear that they both wish to take the other s life (83).
Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck a nearby tree, causing it to pin both men to the ground (84). The
Machine That Won the War portrays the story of three men,
Lamar Swift, John Henderson, and Max Jablonsky, who are discussing Earth s victory in the war
against the planet Deneb (Asimov 1). Everyone believes that an ingenious computer called
Multivac won the war, until Henderson, Jablonsky, and Swift admit that they didn t trust the
information and changed it until they thought it appeared to be accurate (1 4). Differences in these
stories include: characters, settings, and wrong doings. A few similarities consist of the reasons for
actions explained in the stories, and what the characters rely on to make decisions and solve problems.
Through showing differences and similarities, it will be made clear that stories like this that seem to
have nothing alike can be related.

settings which

Close to 40% of high school students in North America have used marijuana once in their lifetime,
and 20% report using it on a regular basis. Mariguana (Spanish for intoxicant ) is the most commonly
used illicit drug . Marijuana consists of the dried leaves of a hemp plant and usually refers to hemp s
religious, medicinal and recreational use, while cannabis is the fibrous part of the hemp plant, and
refers its industrial and commercial use. Marijuana has been used for centuries for diverse purposes:
industrially, religiously, medicinally and recreationally. It has and continues to play an important role
in Western History. How did marijuana evolve from being a highly regarded industrial product to
being used religiously, medicinally and recreationally? This research paper will trace the evolution of
marijuana use through Western History with a focus on its use in various countries, and conclude with
the recent controversy in North America about the use of medical marijuana.
Industrial Use
Many centuries before widespread recreational marijuana, it was used industrially first in Asia and
later in Europe. The hemp plant was used as a fiber and then later as a fabric, cloth, and paper. Hemp
fiber was first reported being used in Taiwan in 8000 BC to decorate clay pots followed by its use as
bowstrings by Ancient Chinese archers, and subsequently for the creation of rope in Southern Russia.
The invention of rope was an enormous technological advance which

The Radical Change During The Renaissance Of A Young Boy...
How could a statue of a young boy with unconvincing looks as a hero be a notorious work of art?
With one glance at the statue, would you believe that this young man could have slain a giant? The
story of David and Goliath was very prevalent at the time, and during this period in history, it was
commissioned by Cosimo de Medici to represent the city of Florence. Florence wanted to show this
representation of David through his strength, courage, and youthful confidence in its city. So, dating
back to the 1440s, David was a prominent aspect of Renaissance art. The radical change during the
Renaissance led artists to alter the original composition of David. Some could agree that this change
may have given spectators a different outlook on the meaning and subliminal messages that this statue
possess. Different artists, such as Donatello, Michelangelo, and others, all portrayed David in different
perspectives. The many different compositions of David would lead one to think, what is the
importance behind this sculpture?
Standing a little over 5 feet in height and being a familiar work of art, Donatello s David is frequently
admired and discussed. Going back to the early life of the biblical David, Donatello depicts him in a
youthful manner. With the exaggerated pose, his hand being positioned at the back of the hip,
Donatello portrays the adolescent as an unconvincing hero to underscore the ability of virtue and
overcome the tyranny (Sayre 2015, 478). Not only was this

The Hunger Of Hunger Throughout America
Hunger throughout America is something that 12 million Americans are battling with everyday. That s
one in every six people (dosomething.org) In Texas alone, 4,320,050 people are tackling hunger and of
those 4,320,050 people, 1,713,430 are children or one in four children throughout Texas (Feeding

Since hunger is tied to poverty, it is assumed that those living in poverty in North Texas are also living

My Life Changed Life And A Red Sweatshirt
I stepped off the bus with a changed life and a red sweatshirt. I know what you may be thinking, and
no, the sweatshirt didn t change my life. The sweatshirt did look pretty nice though it was a lovely
deep maroon with two white triangles that overlapped. But anyways, the design of the sweatshirt (no
matter how cool) is irrelevant.
The life changing event occurred just this past weekend, and I unfortunately, cannot narrow it down to
a precise moment. Ever since the day of the winter retreat was announced, I had been counting down
the days until December 9th. I was ready to spend time with my friends in my small group, and I was
even a little excited that my crush would be there too (even though I have yet to work up the courage

I was nervous because our small group always consisted of girls in my grade, and now we were going
to have co ed small group for the weekend. Unfortunately, my crush wasn t in my group, but that was
okay. There were four boys, all from a rivaling school, and Sydney and I were the only girls. Small
groups with the boys was drastically different to what I was used to. In our all girl group, we would
talk on and on about random tangents. With the boys, their answers were short, and part way through
they would get restless and start walking around the spacious room.
Our first small group consisted of basic get to know you questions. When asked what store we would
spend $1,000 at, I said a music store, Sydney said Hot Topic, and all the boys said varying sporting
goods stores. It was a little awkward, but by the end of the weekend we all talked a bit more freely
amongst each other.
When small group ended, we went to the tabernacle for group worship. After singing a couple of
songs, the youth pastor came up and introduced us to who would be speaking for the weekend. The
man who taught us had also gone to our church growing up. He told us that he was once exactly where
we were. He launched into the message, where he talked about Peter laying down his fishing nets to
go follow Jesus. He then had us each take a notecard and write down what our nets , or things holding
us back from having a close relationship with God, and then put them up on

The Uk Supermarket Industry, And Analysing The Condition...
1.Introduction
This report is about the UK supermarket industry, and analysing the condition of the current market. It
will focus on its market structure, barriers to entry and contestable market to analyse if the
supermarket industry is an oligopoly market and if it is a contestable market or not.
2.Findings
2,1 Definition of oligopoly
To examine if a market is oligopoly market, it has to meet the following conditions:
Few firms in an industry
Firms under oligopoly market are price setters.
Long run abnormal profit can be made
Products can be homogeneous(e.g., sugar) or differentiated(e.g., mobile phone)
Barriers to entry Sunk cost, technology, economies of scale, limiting pricing and brand loyalty of
incumbents can all be barriers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, interdependence makes oligopoly market uncertain.
Due to uncertainty, firms may want to ensure a stable amount of profit, collusion may be an option for
them.
Cartel firms ,especially dominant players, gather together to set up a price according to the profit
maximisation in the whole market. In this case, firms act like a monopoly. The price of products of
each firms is fixed, thus reduction of price competition will be achieved. Instead of pricing strategy,
firms will compete each other over non price competition, for example, advertising. Like monopoly,
customers interest might be sacrificed because price is constructed according to the market s profit
maximisation point, whole industry can gain abnormal profit, which means customers pay more than
they actually need to. According to the figure 1, price of products under cartel is set up at P because of
profit maximisation E (MC=MR), and abnormal profit is PP2FG. However, cartel is illegal in many
countries, including UK.
Tacit collusion Firms will follow the price set up by established leader. Established leader can be
dominant company in this industry. This is called dominant firm price leadership. Price can also be set
up by company which may not be the dominant one, but other firms might follow its action because it
is reliable on price setting. This is called barometric price leadership.

Ticket Prices
The article Ticket Price Determination in Professional Sports: An Empirical Analysis of the NBA,
NFL, NHL, and Major League Baseball. was researched and created by two economists named,
Patrick Rishe and Michael Mondello. The basis of this article was to analyze why the prices of tickets
tend to vary from city to city within each league and also to provide the reader with information
regarding whether ticket price increases are tied to changes in team payroll. Rishe and Mondello
created and empirical model to get a more precise measurement than that of regressions done in the
past. With this analysis Rishe and Mondello wanted to understand the impacts of salary caps on ticket
price within a league so they involved two leagues without a salary ... Show more content on

Going forward, one of the most notable findings in this regression is the significance of team payroll
and ticket prices for the NHL. One might expect these two variables to be correlated since there is no
salary cap, but in fact in the early stages of the test period Rishe and Mondello discovered that the
NBA, despite having a salary cap, has a larger payroll dispersion than the NHL. NHL s payroll
dispersion is relatively stable, which could be the reason why this variable is statically insignificant.
Recent success has had more of an impact on the NBA and the NFL compared to the NHL and MLB.
This might be due to the strong correlation between winning and payrolls in cap free sports. To
conclude the average ticket prices has had a strong upward trend in football and baseball, on the other
hand the NHL and NBA seem stagnate possibly due to consumer preference in the last six years. The
second equation in this trial explains the factors that cause seasonal price changes within each league.
Once again playing in a new facility for a season opener suggests the size of seasonal price tickets will
increase for an individual team in any league. The second factor in this equation is the team s post
season success, the result showed that for a team in any league that made it to the playoffs
significantly raised ticket prices. Additionally, the ticket prices rose for only the NHL and NFL if a
team reached the championship. Over the period of time examined NBA and NHL teams displayed a
smaller ticket price increase seasonally, due to the stagnate demand to watch those two

Descriptive Essay About My Sisters
I was five years old when I realized that my sister and I were very similar. There were physical
similarities that had my sister and I could be mistaken for twins, but we often acted very different. I
could not fathom at the time how my sister and I could in any way be similar, due to the differences in
our personalities. Sure, we looked alike, blond hair, and blue eyes like our dad. We were tall and both
active. We resembled each other, certainly, but to our eyes we couldn t be more different.
My sister enjoyed teasing me and being annoying, working me into a rage, while I enjoyed being
silent and reading. She enjoyed playing outside, while inside was where I felt I belonged. She was part
of the popular group, and I enjoyed the company of plebeians. These were some of the things different
between us that I remember of that time. But it wasn t some relative physical similarities that
convinced me that we were similar, it wasn t a family diner. It was a meeting at the airport when we
were waiting for our grandfather when a complete stranger walked up to us and told us what cute
twins you are . It was a stranger s comment, what cute twins you are that made me look at more than
our similarities. The stranger s comments made the five year old Anna realize that there was so much
between us. It was not just the color of our hair which was blond, or our deep blue eyes. It was not just
that we were always tall for our age, and still are (my sister is 6 feet tall and I am 5 9 ).
What convinced me that we were so very similar and that the stranger at the airport might be onto
something was some of the things we would say and do in our country home in Missouri. We would
speak double, each saying the same thing at the same moment. This happened many times, and often
we would finish each other s sentences. We knew each other s jokes and could finish the punchline
perfectly as well as one person could. We had the same sense of humor, laughing to ourselves at a
reference or a bit of wordplay doubly said between us amidst giggles to the same joke, or how we d
use the same gestures to express ourselves when we spoke, or how we had the same taste in music.
It was telling our deepest, darkest secrets and our fears to each

Psychological Process Analysis
Description of Psychological process:
When I began examining specific cross cultural differences in psychological processes, a particular
example that resonated heavily and constantly in my head came from the original article called:
Cultural and Educational Influences on Pain of Childbirth by Dr. Matisyohu Weisenberg and Zahava
Caspi. In this study the authors examined the effects that educational history and differing
sociocultural families of origin have on communicated ratings of pain and specific pain behavior
prevalent during childbirth (Weisenberg et al., 1989). On a more elementary level, the authors
investigated the disparities in how people verbally and physically react to pain prevalent during
childbirth based upon differences in cultural and educational influences.

After describing universally high levels of pain prevalent during child birthing, the researchers go on
to describe that the women in the lower education group were more susceptible to higher levels of
pain ranking and pain behavior across both cultures. By partaking in more years of school, women
become more likely to understand the process, pains, and experience endured by women during the
delivery process helping them mentally prepare for childbirth. Previously in the article we can see that
preparation leads to lower pain behavior yet it doesn t affect pain ranking (Weisenberg et al., 1989).
Prevalent in a study done by Bonnel and Boureau (Bonnel, 1985) we can see that the pain behaviors,
actually, have more to do with self control. With school testing our self control on a daily basis
through a heavy workload and strict management of our grades it is no wonder why women with
increased levels of education rank their pain as

Self Destruction In Macbeth
The quest for self fulfillment can lead some to their own destructions when these individuals cannot
compromise their goals. Shakespeare uses characters within the play Macbeth to draw attention to the
dangers of relentlessly pursuing the goal of happiness while also presenting the few that have the
ability to compromise their needs as those who ultimately triumph. The idea of constantly pursuing a
goal no matter the consequences or the actions necessary to succeed will only lead to the self
destruction of that individual described by the play Macbeth. Shakespeare reveals characters that
embody their ambitions completely to the full extent where they create a false face (that will) hide
what the heart (really) know(s) (Act 1, scene vii)

Grade Retention Controversy
Grade retention, better known as staying back , being held back or repeating , has been the topic of
much debate within the educational system. The controversy which surrounds this long standing issue
has been reinforced by such topics as the recent endorsement of academic standards. Research
indicates that the rate of retention has increased by approximately 40% in the last 20 years with as
many as 15% of all American students held back each year and 30 50% held back at least once before
ninth grade (Dawson, 1998). These discouraging statistics pose copious problems within a school
system. The difficulties can be appreciated at the organizational level, as well as inside the classroom
and, most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Annually, it is estimated that roughly 15% of students are retained, representing approximately 2.4
million children (Jimerson, 2001; Mattison, 2000). In general, children who repeat a grade are 30%
more likely to drop out of school as compared to their promoted peers and the retention trend is
increasing, up approximately 12% from 1980 to 1992 (Owings amp; Magliaro, 1998). Retained
students have an approximately 60% chance of dropping out of school by the 12th grade and those
students who have been retained twice increase their chance to 90% (Parker, 2001). Rumberger (1995)
identified grade retention as the single most powerful predictor of dropping out. It is estimated that
40% of the total number of repeaters are from the lowest SES brackets compared to only 8.5% from
the highest SES groups (Owings amp; Magliaro, 1998). Research by Meisels (1993) discovered that
more than two thirds of all retentions occur before fourth grade. These discouraging statistics also
come at an enormous expense; grade retention costs approximately 10 billion dollars per year (Natale,
1991).
To counteract the discouraging data about grade retention, many school systems have instilled the
policy of social promotion. The recent negativism surrounding the tradition of repeating a grade
portends a return to social promotion. Social promotion, the antithesis of grade retention, is the
automatic passing of a student on to the next grade at the end of the school year, despite his or her

Orlando-Conforming to Society Essays
As a person looks around themselves and their surroundings they can pick up little details about
themselves as well as their society. Society has a lot to do with the things that are bought, taken home,
displayed. Society depicts what things are fashionable and what s not. This alludes to the fact that one
acquires the ideals of the society around them. Though conforming seems like the best way to make
one s self seem respectable, does it mean that one must lose themselves in order to gain the respect of
society? That is the very struggle that presents itself in Virginia Woolf s Orlando.

Having lost his first true love devastated Orlando, and having Mr. Nick Greene put down his beloved
poetry (page 94, Woolf), the last issue Orlando could handle in the current society he was in, were the
advances of the Archduchess Harriet (page114, Woolf). It is then that Orlando decided to pick himself
up and transfer himself into another society. He moved to the land of the Turks in the seventeenth
century.
Once Orlando reached the Turk s he once again conformed himself. At about seven, he would rise,
wrap himself in a Turkish cloak, light a cheroot, and lean his elbows on the parapet (page 120, Woolf).
Orlando learned the Turkish language and adapted himself to exotic customs. While trying to escape
the prison that he created for himself in England he once again traps himself a second time trying to
conform to the ways of others. He would not even receive visitors until he smelled, looked, and
covered like the Turks (page 121, Woolf). However as much as Orlando tried to fit in he seemed to
have made no friends. As far as is known, he formed no attachments (page 125, Woolf). This begs the
question; was all the effort to conform worth it, when he obviously didn t fit in despite his effort? It is
here where Orlando became pensive, and was graced with a visit from the Ladies: Purity, Chastity, and
Modesty. The reader senses Orlando s inner musings of what his next step would be or where it would

  • 4. Essay about Ntc 362 Week 5 Individual Assignment Final Paper NTC/362 Introduction Kudler Fine Foods has established that they want to design a WAN to tie three different locations together and make the internal network in each store a Wireless Local Area Network. Then, they are requesting Voice Over Internet Protocol to each multi store network. Various protocols make all this happen. Transfer Control Protocol and Internet Protocol are the foundation of data transfer. TCP is the protocol that the internet, email and ftp highly rely on. Without TCP/IP there would be no internet, email or FTP. Two other protocols designed to process packets throughout the network are X.25 and Frame Relay. For this scenario Frame Relay will be used so I will not provide a brief description about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Frame Relay does have some draw backs such as error checking packets. This can be a huge deal if there is a lot of traffic on the network because it will not detect corrupt packets. Which means individual packets could be lost when transmitted. Frame Relay relies on the end station to send the SYN/ACK back. If a SYN/ACK does not come back then the Frame Relay protocol will just drop the frame. From each individual router a T1 line will be used to help reach the desired bandwidth from server to a switch. From this point you will have to use leased lines which will affect the budget of the project. With the implemented plan, the goal was to keep the desired bandwidth and allow room for growth. Latency, Jitter, Response Time I also targeted the area of Latency. With all the users connected to the router and the router transmitting data to the switch and then so forth until it reaches its destination, there is going to be a degrade in Latency. Three variables that will keep this network maintained and keep the desired processing speed and bandwidth are Latency, Jitter, and Response Time. Latency has already been discussed however, Jitter can resemble Latency somewhat. Jitter will occur when packets pass through the network nodes with varying latencies. This usually occurs when the bandwidth is maxed out or is low and the network path needs to be manipulated. Response Time deals with the individual components and the amount of time it takes for them to respond giving the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Oscar Wao Character Analysis The Composition of Strength Although when one sees an Olympic runner finishing their marathon or a professional body builder lifting weights the first thought that comes to mind is, They must be strong , the composition of this strength is never contemplated. That Olympic runner is not just putting on foot in front of the other, he is also pushing through his pain and maintaining constant view of his goal. This is the main type of ingredient in the strength dish, mental power. Overall strength is not only physical, but mainly mental. The initial decision to exercise and how one builds physical endurance and strength are purely a result of mental power. In the novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Oscar, the main character, does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When dealing with depression one must have a large amount of mental strength and stability to fight off the symptoms and avoid giving into the depression. In the novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Oscar battled depression for a while after moving to the U.S. living in his apartment. One day Oscar could not take it and he let his thoughts overcome him, he managed to get to a ledge and, ...He threw himself into the darkness... (176). Oscar was in a very difficult situation, as are all other people with depression, and his mental strength was overcome by thoughts of suicide. The mental power of the suicidal thoughts was enough to cause Oscar to nearly kill himself. No matter how much more muscle Oscar were to have had, they alone would not have saved him from his nearly fatal jump. Oscar simply lost the mental battle with depression which ended up being the only battle necessary for Oscar to have lost for his defeat in his war with depression. If a person is dealing with depression and has any hope to defeat depression, they must exercise. As mentioned earlier, exercise does not result from any physical needs; the human body will not exercise on its own if one is overweight. When someone with depression makes the decision to exercise and engages in the activity, they will receive the mental benefits of exercise necessary to overcome depressive thoughts. This mental benefit is the release of feel good endorphins , according to Depression and Anxiety: Exercise Eases Symptoms by Mayo Clinic Staff. When someone exercises the brain releases natural chemicals that produce effects similar to cannabis. This release is to numb any pain or any form of discomfort one might feel after exercising. These chemicals are released in excess and along with being enough to relieve discomfort, the excess is enough to help battle symptoms of depression. The person with depression who ... • 7. Confucius s Influence On Chinese Philosophy Confucius, also referred to his Chinese name, Kongzi, is credited for paving a path for the beginning of Chinese philosophy and is arguably the most famous Chinese philosopher in history. Confucius believed in the process of self cultivation to become a better, more Good of a person, the idea of treating your family with the highest respect, also known as filial piety, and keeping traditions alive with many rituals. Although Confucius has had an immense influence on Chinese philosophy and is even seen as a present day reference for philosophers all over the world, the Chinese philosopher Mozi was also an influential figure after the death of Confucius. Mohism is evidently more of an excelling school of thought to prevent extreme crime in a dystopian Chinese society rather than Confucianism because there is much emphasis on a strong hierarchy system and acknowledgement of the lower class under Mohism which is crucial for a society filled with much crime. On the other hand, Confucianism believes heavily in rituals and traditions which may devalue the state of the theoretical unstable Chinese society and may be even the cause of the crimes within it. Confucius advocated strongly for the use of rituals to continue traditional beliefs. He said that a reliable person is someone who is broadly learned with regard to culture, and whose conduct is restrained by the rites and would surely not go astray. 1 Traditional beliefs are vital for finding yourself as a person and ... • 8. Scottsboro Boys Research Paper The Scottsboro Boys The Scottsboro Boys trial was an important piece of history because it was a big part and steeping stone of the Civil Rights movement, it also showed a great example of racial inequality. No crime in American history let alone a crime that never occurred produced as many trials, convictions, reversals, and retrials as did an alleged gang rape of two white girls by nine black teenagers on a Southern Railroad freight run on March 25, 1931. On the night of March 25th, 1931, nine young black men were on their way to find work. They were riding in a freight train to find work. However, they were riding the train illegally and were found after getting into a fight with two white hobos. The crew found them and called the sheriff and when the sheriff arrived there were two young white prostitutes riding in a completely different train car than the black men. Once the sheriff saw the women, Ruby Bates and Victoria Price, he told them that he knew they were prostitutes and if they didn t accuse the black men of raping them he would take them to jail. I believe this because they don t have enough value in it so they are just in a piggy bank not being used. Another reason why pennies should be removed from the money system is because it takes up too much time to count all of them. Pennies are unnecessary to have they are just taking up space in our pockets, just to make a penny 1.5 cents which is the same as a penny. these are my reasons why i believe pennies should not be made anymore Pennies are not useful because of their value Their is no purpose of having it on the money system. 1 cent is nothing when your going to go grocery shopping. Rudolf Diesel was both a thinker and a doer . Confined to hospital after an accident, he spent months poring over books and papers by people like Carnot and Otto. All That time he spent time he was in the hospital studying, making theories on how he would make a better engine than what everyone else had he wanted to have some thing that could pull almost anything, and something that could last a long time. The Development Of The Pair Bond In our culture the relationship most often discussed when describing human interaction and that which is considered the most ideal or normal relationship (demonstrated by cultural morality and various forms of media) is that of the male female couple. This pair bonding is a phenomenon that exists to some degree in the natural world, but occurs most prominently in humans. The development of the pair bond is one of the single most important aspects of human evolution, culture, and relationships as we understand them today. This behavior has driven human sociality, reproduction, and cultural development through evolutionary, physiological, and psychological means. By understanding and assessing the history and evolution of pair bonding, the means by which our cultural foundations were established can be discovered. To determine how the pair bond has been established, one must look at the various evolutionary pressures that lead to this type of behavior. As Herbert (2005) explains, the reproductive strategies of organisms are often defined by biologists as r or K strategies. The former tend to be smaller and live in unstable environments with their reproductive strategy being to produce as many offspring as possible (potentially only once in their lifetime), many of them dying before reaching the reproductive age of their already short life expectancy. • 21. The Cask Of Amontillado By Edgar Poe Amontillado is a classically known amber colored, medium dry sherry wine, and in the case of Poe s The Cask of Amontillado, it is the taste for Amontillado that results in the unfortunate and rather untimely death of Fortunato at the hands of the maniacal Montresor. Revenge is something that no one should have to experience; however, sadly sometimes, it is an inevitability that cannot be avoided. The Cask of Amontillado exposes Poe s dark side and cruelty towards society and the world. In this short story, Poe tells about a rich drunk man, Fortunato, picking on a not so rich friend, Montresor, but things quickly take a turn when Montresor decides to take out his revenge against his pal. Poe uses ethos, logos, and pathos deeply throughout his storyline to enhance the story and better the imagination of the characters, the deep meaning behind the setting, and the Amontillado s secret. Fortunato for example was an awkward, clumsy, and egotistical drunk, whose main concern was when he would take his next drink. Michael Lewis suggests that Fortunato did not mean to mistreat Montresor or disturb his happiness, but his decisions to drown away his sorrows opened up a can of worms for Fortunato (Lewis, Explicator). With one glance at the statue, would you believe that this young man could have slain a giant? The story of David and Goliath was very prevalent at the time, and during this period in history, it was commissioned by Cosimo de Medici to represent the city of Florence. Florence wanted to show this representation of David through his strength, courage, and youthful confidence in its city. So, dating back to the 1440s, David was a prominent aspect of Renaissance art. The radical change during the Renaissance led artists to alter the original composition of David. Some could agree that this change may have given spectators a different outlook on the meaning and subliminal messages that this statue possess. Cartel firms ,especially dominant players, gather together to set up a price according to the profit maximisation in the whole market. In this case, firms act like a monopoly. The price of products of each firms is fixed, thus reduction of price competition will be achieved. Instead of pricing strategy, firms will compete each other over non price competition, for example, advertising. Like monopoly, customers interest might be sacrificed because price is constructed according to the market s profit maximisation point, whole industry can gain abnormal profit, which means customers pay more than they actually need to. According to the figure 1, price of products under cartel is set up at P because of profit maximisation E (MC=MR), and abnormal profit is PP2FG. However, cartel is illegal in many countries, including UK. Tacit collusion Firms will follow the price set up by established leader. Established leader can be dominant company in this industry. This is called dominant firm price leadership. Price can also be set up by company which may not be the dominant one, but other firms might follow its action because it is reliable on price setting. This is called barometric price leadership. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Ticket Prices The article Ticket Price Determination in Professional Sports: An Empirical Analysis of the NBA, NFL, NHL, and Major League Baseball. was researched and created by two economists named, Patrick Rishe and Michael Mondello. The basis of this article was to analyze why the prices of tickets tend to vary from city to city within each league and also to provide the reader with information regarding whether ticket price increases are tied to changes in team payroll. Rishe and Mondello created and empirical model to get a more precise measurement than that of regressions done in the past. With this analysis Rishe and Mondello wanted to understand the impacts of salary caps on ticket price within a league so they involved two leagues without a salary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Going forward, one of the most notable findings in this regression is the significance of team payroll and ticket prices for the NHL. One might expect these two variables to be correlated since there is no salary cap, but in fact in the early stages of the test period Rishe and Mondello discovered that the NBA, despite having a salary cap, has a larger payroll dispersion than the NHL. NHL s payroll dispersion is relatively stable, which could be the reason why this variable is statically insignificant. Recent success has had more of an impact on the NBA and the NFL compared to the NHL and MLB. This might be due to the strong correlation between winning and payrolls in cap free sports. To conclude the average ticket prices has had a strong upward trend in football and baseball, on the other hand the NHL and NBA seem stagnate possibly due to consumer preference in the last six years. The second equation in this trial explains the factors that cause seasonal price changes within each league. Once again playing in a new facility for a season opener suggests the size of seasonal price tickets will increase for an individual team in any league. The second factor in this equation is the team s post season success, the result showed that for a team in any league that made it to the playoffs significantly raised ticket prices. Additionally, the ticket prices rose for only the NHL and NFL if a team reached the championship. Over the period of time examined NBA and NHL teams displayed a smaller ticket price increase seasonally, due to the stagnate demand to watch those two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Descriptive Essay About My Sisters I was five years old when I realized that my sister and I were very similar. There were physical similarities that had my sister and I could be mistaken for twins, but we often acted very different. I could not fathom at the time how my sister and I could in any way be similar, due to the differences in our personalities. Sure, we looked alike, blond hair, and blue eyes like our dad. We were tall and both active. We resembled each other, certainly, but to our eyes we couldn t be more different. My sister enjoyed teasing me and being annoying, working me into a rage, while I enjoyed being silent and reading. She enjoyed playing outside, while inside was where I felt I belonged. She was part of the popular group, and I enjoyed the company of plebeians. These were some of the things different between us that I remember of that time. But it wasn t some relative physical similarities that convinced me that we were similar, it wasn t a family diner. It was a meeting at the airport when we were waiting for our grandfather when a complete stranger walked up to us and told us what cute twins you are . It was a stranger s comment, what cute twins you are that made me look at more than our similarities. The stranger s comments made the five year old Anna realize that there was so much between us. It was not just the color of our hair which was blond, or our deep blue eyes. It was not just that we were always tall for our age, and still are (my sister is 6 feet tall and I am 5 9 ). What convinced me that we were so very similar and that the stranger at the airport might be onto something was some of the things we would say and do in our country home in Missouri. We would speak double, each saying the same thing at the same moment. This happened many times, and often we would finish each other s sentences. We knew each other s jokes and could finish the punchline perfectly as well as one person could. We had the same sense of humor, laughing to ourselves at a reference or a bit of wordplay doubly said between us amidst giggles to the same joke, or how we d use the same gestures to express ourselves when we spoke, or how we had the same taste in music. It was telling our deepest, darkest secrets and our fears to each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Psychological Process Analysis Description of Psychological process: When I began examining specific cross cultural differences in psychological processes, a particular example that resonated heavily and constantly in my head came from the original article called: Cultural and Educational Influences on Pain of Childbirth by Dr. Matisyohu Weisenberg and Zahava Caspi. In this study the authors examined the effects that educational history and differing sociocultural families of origin have on communicated ratings of pain and specific pain behavior prevalent during childbirth (Weisenberg et al., 1989). On a more elementary level, the authors investigated the disparities in how people verbally and physically react to pain prevalent during childbirth based upon differences in cultural and educational influences. After describing universally high levels of pain prevalent during child birthing, the researchers go on to describe that the women in the lower education group were more susceptible to higher levels of pain ranking and pain behavior across both cultures. By partaking in more years of school, women become more likely to understand the process, pains, and experience endured by women during the delivery process helping them mentally prepare for childbirth. Previously in the article we can see that preparation leads to lower pain behavior yet it doesn t affect pain ranking (Weisenberg et al., 1989). Prevalent in a study done by Bonnel and Boureau (Bonnel, 1985) we can see that the pain behaviors, actually, have more to do with self control. With school testing our self control on a daily basis through a heavy workload and strict management of our grades it is no wonder why women with increased levels of education rank their pain as ... Shakespeare uses characters within the play Macbeth to draw attention to the dangers of relentlessly pursuing the goal of happiness while also presenting the few that have the ability to compromise their needs as those who ultimately triumph. The idea of constantly pursuing a goal no matter the consequences or the actions necessary to succeed will only lead to the self destruction of that individual described by the play Macbeth. • 41. Grade Retention Controversy Grade retention, better known as staying back , being held back or repeating , has been the topic of much debate within the educational system. The controversy which surrounds this long standing issue has been reinforced by such topics as the recent endorsement of academic standards. Research indicates that the rate of retention has increased by approximately 40% in the last 20 years with as many as 15% of all American students held back each year and 30 50% held back at least once before ninth grade (Dawson, 1998). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Annually, it is estimated that roughly 15% of students are retained, representing approximately 2.4 million children (Jimerson, 2001; Mattison, 2000). In general, children who repeat a grade are 30% more likely to drop out of school as compared to their promoted peers and the retention trend is increasing, up approximately 12% from 1980 to 1992 (Owings amp; Magliaro, 1998). Retained students have an approximately 60% chance of dropping out of school by the 12th grade and those students who have been retained twice increase their chance to 90% (Parker, 2001). Rumberger (1995) identified grade retention as the single most powerful predictor of dropping out. It is estimated that 40% of the total number of repeaters are from the lowest SES brackets compared to only 8.5% from the highest SES groups (Owings amp; Magliaro, 1998). Research by Meisels (1993) discovered that more than two thirds of all retentions occur before fourth grade. These discouraging statistics also come at an enormous expense; grade retention costs approximately 10 billion dollars per year (Natale, 1991). To counteract the discouraging data about grade retention, many school systems have instilled the policy of social promotion. The recent negativism surrounding the tradition of repeating a grade portends a return to social promotion. Social promotion, the antithesis of grade retention, is the automatic passing of a student on to the next grade at the end of the school year, despite his or her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Orlando-Conforming to Society Essays As a person looks around themselves and their surroundings they can pick up little details about themselves as well as their society. Society has a lot to do with the things that are bought, taken home, displayed. Society depicts what things are fashionable and what s not. This alludes to the fact that one acquires the ideals of the society around them. Though conforming seems like the best way to make one s self seem respectable, does it mean that one must lose themselves in order to gain the respect of society? He moved to the land of the Turks in the seventeenth century. Once Orlando reached the Turk s he once again conformed himself. At about seven, he would rise, wrap himself in a Turkish cloak, light a cheroot, and lean his elbows on the parapet (page 120, Woolf). Orlando learned the Turkish language and adapted himself to exotic customs. While trying to escape the prison that he created for himself in England he once again traps himself a second time trying to conform to the ways of others. He would not even receive visitors until he smelled, looked, and covered like the Turks (page 121, Woolf). However as much as Orlando tried to fit in he seemed to have made no friends. As far as is known, he formed no attachments (page 125, Woolf). This begs the question; was all the effort to conform worth it, when he obviously didn t fit in despite his effort?
