A Man And A Doll. Society As A Unit, Has Been Pushing Towards
A Man and a Doll
Society as a unit, has been pushing towards the ideal state of living throughout most of history. People
had used symbols and ideas to get points across to help push and fix where society has holes to further
integrate the perfect principles that will then replace social norms, and break through what once was a
flawed belief system. the social rights activist Malcom X was one of these icons who fought to create
a better world for African Americans. The child s toy Barbie, was a symbol towards women and
pushed the idea of that women can push through the ideals that society wanted them to be. Both for a
cause, one plastic, one man, both with an idea.

The three main key events that are included in the novel include the crucial reasoning to why Malcolm
expressed himself the way he did. The events that distinguished Malcolm s character were racial
identity, systemic oppression, and integration v separation.
Ruth Handler created Barbie, after noticing her daughter playing with paper dolls and she was playing
the role of a mother, as most women were expected to be. The basic standard for women were to be a
housewife, and most young girl s toys were children or infants. Ms. Handler wanted to influence
young girls to be anything they wanted. Barbie s purpose was to be an adult to further portray the
young girl s dreams, which is why she specifically sought out an adult woman to depict her doll, this
way when young girls play pretend they would seek a better future outside of motherhood.
Both Malcolm x and Barbie received a great deal of criticism before becoming famous and influential,
Malcolm x was viewed as a racist and a criminal, he was put in jail and spent seven years there. In jail
was called Satan for cursing at God multiple times, but it was then that he had met another cell mate,
John Bembry and realized that he was trying to be someone that he was not; the white man and he
then developed hatred and anger for all those who were white. the devil white man cut these black

Antigovernment Statements through Painting
While Van Gogh shut himself off from the world first, in rural Provence, and second, in an asylum in
Saint Remy, other artists have used their celebrity to draw attention to contemporary political events,
and to speak out against, and challenge the establishment. As mentioned above, Warhol had made art
from newspaper headlines, thus drawing attention to contemporary politics on race in America.
However, among the best known of such anti governmental statements is Picasso s painting Guernica,
which represents a passionate attack on Spain s fascist government by the Spanish artist living in
Paris. It portrays a scene of the German bombing, in 1937, of Guernica, the Basque capital of
Northern Spain, during the Spanish civil war, and became a universal symbol of the atrocity of war.
The scene is set within a room where, at an open end on the left, a bull flails its tail as it stands over a
woman grieving over the dead child in her arms. The subjects in this painting are shown as innocent
and helpless. The centre is occupied by a horse, which falls in agony as it had just been run through by
a spear or javelin. The large gaping wound in its side is a major focus of the painting, reinforced by
the human skull which overlays the horse s body. On the open palm of the dead soldier in the
foreground is a stigmata, a symbol of martyrdom derived from a stigmata of Christ. A light bulb blazes
in the shape of an evil eye over the suffering horse s head, reminiscent of the bare bulb

Board Games Research Paper
Enjoyment is key. Otherwise what s the point of playing board games? Board games bring people
together or tear them apart; sometimes it s both. When playing board games you see another side of
people that you don t usually see. People tend to get frustrated a lot because board games are meant to
be easy, right? Boards games are made to test your mental capability whilst bringing joy. It s not
always about bringing joy they can cause a lot of chaos too.
To enjoy the game, you first need to know how to play the game. Reading the rules multiple times
until you know the rules by heart will help you greatly because you won t be confused. You don t want
to be a confused person otherwise you won t enjoy yourself. If you don t know them entirely, just

Henry James The Bostonians ( 1886 ) Essay
Henry James The Bostonians (1886) is a satirical study of the feminist movement. This novel can be
read as a study of woman s quest for being a patriarch in United States of America in the 19th century.
The events of The Bostonians are set in New England of U.S.A. The female characters of this novel
are involved in the feminist reform movement that swept New England during the latter half of the
nineteenth century. The novel appeared thirty five years before female suffrage. James foresaw the
catastrophic weakenss of the feminine life force by the dominance of men over women. When Henry
James started writing The Bostonians in 1883, he uncovered his intentions for this novel: I wished to
write a very American tale, a tale very characteristic of our social condition, and I asked myself what
was the most salient and peculiar point in our social life. The answer was: the situation of woman, the
decline of the sentiment of sex, the agitation on their behalf (James, Notebooks 47). By the 1880s,
some female voices had proclaimed some questions of race, gender, and sexuality. These voices
influenced James s choice of the subject of The Bostonians. In one of his letters James writes: The
characters are for the most part persons of the radical reforming type, who are especially interested in
the emancipation of women, giving them the suffrage, releasing them from bondage, coeducating
them with men, etc. They regard this as the great question of the day the most urgent and sacred

Characteristics Of Frederick The Great
The Enlightenment is a period of time located across the world, mainly in Europe, that directly
followed the Scientific Revolution. It has been considered an intellectual movement which has
advocated for freedom, democracy, and reason. Many have also considered this time as the organized
activity of French philosophers or also known as the philosophes, who were considered an informal
society men of letters that contributed to the Encyclopedie. The Enlightenment affected the European
population as well with more rights being given to the common people, more people becoming
literate, decline in the church, and new formations of religions. One of these philosophies is Frederick
the Great, King of Prussia. Frederick was an active follower of the Enlightenment and tried to change
Prussia into an Enlightened state through some of these characteristics.
Frederick the Great was ruler of Prussia from 1740 1786. He took over from his father, Frederick
William I, who was considered to be coward and rarely got into wars. Frederick s term was during the
Enlightenment, and like other rulers, Catherine the Great, Maria Theresa, and her son, Joseph, were all
enlightened by the age and followed it. In the case of Frederick, he turned his court into a learning of
the nobility to help out. He believed that the French learning was the only main learning that people
should know, and used French influence in his castle and gardens. He was good friends with other
philosophies such as Voltaire

Compare and Contrast two criminological approaches to...
Compare and Contrast two criminological approaches to understanding the commission of crime.
Criminologists seek to understand the commission of crime in a given society, attempting to figure out
why certain crimes occur, and then to study how these can be prevented, and deterred by individuals.
The two key approaches I will examine in this assignment is that of the early Classicalist approach,
and the opposing Positivist approach, each of which are crucial for understanding modern criminology
today. In the late eighteenth century Britain went through an Enlightenment period, which is also
referred to as The Age of Reason (Paine, 1794) and this is because reason was emphasised over
religion, secularisation transformed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bentham then invented his idea of the perfect prison, the panopticon. This was a model prison where
all prisoners where observed at all times by unseen guards. The Classicalist approach involves the
punishments being just and reasonable, however still being able to deter individuals. This approach
has been criticised by numerous theorists for many reasons. To begin with, despite this continuing
change of the punishments towards offenders, from the earliest codes of public executions, towards a
more subtle reformation and rehabilitation scheme, the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 mirrors
this idea, murder rates have not significantly changed. Also this theory emphasises much on rational
thinking and freewill, however it is debated that we do not always behave in our best interest, there are
times when individuals are intoxicated by alcohol so are not as conscious of their activities. Moreover,
there are crimes which entails the offender gaining no rewards, and also victimless crimes illustrate
that not all crimes and punishments are just . Theorists then sought to figure out another alternative
way for understanding the commission of crime, as many began to doubt this theory that crime was a
simple characteristic of the human nature. In the nineteenth century the Positivist approach was
introduced, which brought a whole new way of thinking about criminals and certain

Essay about John Steinbeck Common Themes
Born in 1902 in Salinas, California, Nobel Prize winner, John Steinbeck, was one of the most
important writers in America during the 20th century. In his novels, East of Eden, Of Mice and Men,
Cannery Row, and In Dubious Battle, Steinbeck explores what it takes for a person to find true
happiness in life. Steinbeck addresses the pursuit for happiness in one s life the American Dream , by
questioning modern idea of it being achieved through material items and the path people take to
accomplish it. Steinbeck also addresses the happiness people find in relationships and how connecting
to someone can affect a person s decisions in life. To communicate his ideas with the reader, Steinbeck

Charles provides a perfect example of the importance a relationship has, and how not having one can
bring out the darkest part of one s personality. Whereas he used East of Eden to focus on the American
Dream of one s desire to make a better life for his or her children, Steinbeck uses Of mice and Men to
focus on the unachievable aspect of the American Dream. In the novella, George and Lennie convey
this theme through their reassurance that they will not have to tend to someone else s ranch and will
soon have there own: O.K. Someday we re gonna get the jack together and we re gonna have a little
house and a couple of acres an a cow and some pigs and An live off the fatta the lan , (Of Mice and
Men, p. 13). Throughout the novella George repeats this line more often and it even acts as one of the
few things Lennie remembers. It appears the more times they reassure themselves of this dream, the
more it shifts from reality to fantasy. This dream also catches the imagination of other characters in the
novel, one being Crooks. Crooks, who naturally does not believe in the luxury of dreaming, becomes
transformed by Lennie s thinking: ...If you...guys would want a hand to work for nothing just his keep,
why I d come an lend a hand (Of Mice and Men, p. 73). This quotation suggests every American
succumbs to the idea of the American dream. This quotation also

Compare And Contrast Shakespeare Sonnet 130
Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 130, were some of William Shakespeare s most famous sonnets that he ever
wrote. Both sonnets are very similar with the theme of love and beauty; however they contrast each
other in their purpose, style, and whom William Shakespeare is writing the sonnet to. The sonnets are
both written in two different styles of writing. Sonnet 18 was written in a more traditional format,
which paints the woman in a divine spotlight. Sonnet 130 however contrasts Sonnet 18 by instead of
describing their subject as being beautiful they rather describing them as with imperfections and how
they love that subject. Shakespeare uses a complimentary tone when he wrote Sonnet 18 and uses a
more ironic and satirical tone in his Sonnet 130. With the help of a complex metaphor, the tone he
uses in each sonnet, and imagery, Shakespeare gives two very different takes on love and beauty. ...

One of the most impactful inventions was the development of the telegram. The first telegram was
sent in May 24th, 1844 from the U.S. Capital to Baltimore. This telegram was sent by Samuel F.B.
Morse and the message said What hath God wrought? The significance of the telegraph is that it
completely branches out new possibilities for communication. For the most part, there was only the
existence of local businesses because distance was a problem. However, the telegraph would allow for
larger businesses to strive because of the now long distance communication. This alone greatly
progresses the industrial industry because products could now be ordered from long distances and
communications could be made between buildings farther away under the same company. This gave
rise to the interstate companies that years later would evolve into international companies. In addition
to this, the telegram gave the U.S. an advantage in combat that other countries did not yet have access
to. This made communication fast and efficient in the heat of battle, which made the U.S. a more
powerful player. Moreover, the invention of the telegraph helped lean the American character towards

Getting to Know Hiromi Uehara
She often wears a strange, (but seems to be her personal characteristic), hairstyle to get on stage. She
always has a cheeky smile, swinging her body freely while her fingers dance on the piano. She is
intelligent and mischievous with endless musical whimsy. She is the pianist, the composer that brings
all the surprise to us, along with her fiery rhythm and creative keyboard sound. Her name is Hiromi
Uehara.
She is born in Shizuoka, Japan, started learning by the age of six. In addition to classical techniques,
she also started to learn jazz techniques and participated in improvisation trainings. At the age of 12,
she started to perform on stage and by the age of 17, she met Chick Corea and got invited to play with
him in the next day concert.
In Hiromi s career, Hiromi has a lot of inspiration from all jazz musicians, such as Chick Corea and
Oscar Peterson. Here is a recording of Hiromi Uehara and Chick Corea duet on Hiromi s piece Old
Castle, by the river, in the middle of a forest (2007). In comparison of these two great jazz musicians,
Corea insists on his lyrical jazz style while Hiromi is punchier and more rhythmic. (Chick Hiromi,
2008). This combination allows Hiromi and Corea to present their strengths, surprise audiences with
their delicate musical ideas.
Here is another recording of Hiromi performing I got rhythm ; she dedicated this work to Oscar
Peterson. Just like her words in an interview with Anil Prasad in 2008 I really have to respect the song

Examples Of Glitches In World Of Warcraft
World of Warcraft has some of my favorite examples of glitches that add to the gameplay experience,
bugs that cause frustration, and some flaws that are just bizarre. One example of a bug making WoW
more fun was wall walking , which allowed players access to areas of terrain that are supposed to be
inaccessible. Techniques involving running up against hills and jumping, angling the camera in
different ways, and even toggling from running to walking can grant players access to areas of the

Of the many bizarre bugs in WoW, one that provided for some memorable experiences was the

Movies are more than a form of entrainment. They are pieces of art that express social and political
problems within the culture. The Black male character and culture has not always been a predominant

O Neill s Non Fiction Piece, The Firecracker Boys
O Neill s non fiction piece, The Firecracker Boys, provides an in depth depiction of the morality and
ecological problems behind the peaceful use of nuclear bombs . Unmasking true intentions, O Neill
describes the Atomic Energy Commission s (AEC) push to continue nuclear bomb testing, regardless
of the global moratorium or the resulting implications it would have on national relations with the
Soviets. O Neill provides a perspective that sees through all of the misconstrued data and influential
power of the AEC, showing clear drivers behind the backing of these destructive practices. As a
whole, The Firecracker Boys addresses both the environmental and social injustices that the AEC and
its proponents wholeheartedly represented. On October 31, 1958, a global moratorium on all nuclear
bomb testing was put into effect after the scientific and public community became increasingly aware
of the negative effects that the radioactive fallout was having on both the ecological and social
communities. Strontium 90, a toxic chemical found in this fallout was being taken up as calcium by
the living organisms in the radioactive zones. According to O Neill, A single teaspoon of it, if
distributed evenly among all the people on earth, would kill every one of them within a few years (O
Neill, 51). Once this chemical is taken up by living organisms, it enters the immensely interconnected
food chain. Specifically in Alaska, the radioactive fallout found its way into the native

Essay On Cardiopulmonary Bypass
Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) has contributed to the evolution of modern day cardiac surgery. The
establishment of extracorporeal circulation has helped the surgical team to carry out complicated
surgical manouevers for treatment of complex cardiac lesions, especially complex congenital cardiac
lesions, some of which were hitherto considered as inoperable. The advances in equipment and use of
innovative techniques in perfusion have contributed to decreased mortality and/or morbidity in
patients undergoing cardiac surgery in the modern day settings. However the necessity for monitoring
the patient on cardiopulmonary bypass is of paramount importance. One of the key areas monitored
during CPB is the neurological status of the patient. The inherent features of CPB like unphysiological
flows, the fluctuations of temperature (use of hypothermia and rewarming), practices like
hemodilution, organ protection strategies and unavoidable consequences like Systemic Inflammatory
Response Syndrome (SIRS), all contribute to neurological sequelae. The possibility of neurological
sequelae is enhanced in neonatal cardiopulmonary bypass, wherein the concept of extra corporeal
circulation is stretched to its limits. Hence neurological monitoring assumes a central place in the
practice of safe, optimal perfusion . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

blood pressure. Many of the client s problems branched off from the heart attack and hypertension.
For example, a heart attack and high blood pressure can cause heart failure, heart failure can cause
pulmonary edema, and pulmonary edema can lead to swelling of the lower extremities and dyspnea
(Grossman Porth, 2014). However, the most recent hospitalization for the client was due to severe
edema, and trouble breathing. Severe edema is one of the major causes for impaired skin integrity.
Skin integrity is defined as the state in which an individual s skin is at risk of being adversely altered
(kloop, Storey, Bronstein, 2012). There are three major factors that can relate to client s skin
alteration: decreased tissue perfusion, prolonged bed rest, and pulmonary edema.
One factor that can cause impaired skin integrity is decreased tissue perfusion. Decreased tissue
perfusion refers to decrease in oxygen resulting in failure to nourish tissues at the capillary level
(Wilson, 2012). Reduced tissue perfusion causes the body to become distressed because it is not
receiving enough oxygen. This causes the blood to shunt to the core of the body where the vital organs
are located, such as the heart and the brain (Grossman Porth, 2014). Since the client suffered from

The Effects Of Mass Shootings
Murder, robbery, human trafficking, rape, kidnapping. The commonality between these crimes are the
perpetrators with immoral intentions to do harm. Recently, the Texan city of Sutherland Springs
suffered through a terrifying mass shooting at the First Baptist Church, resulting in numerous deaths
of innocent church goers. With the Las Vegas mass shooting occurring not too long before this tragic
incident, fear strikes into the hearts of Americans and demands against gun control are being made.
The question becomes, though, what should be done in response to this kind of evil that has been
committed? Two articles, In the Face of Evil, Prayer is the Most Rational and Effective Response by
David French and Can Government Solve the Evil of Mass Shootings? A Response to Mollie
Hemingway by Daniel Schultz, go at opposite ends with issue here. The Texas church shooting in
accordance with the articles present the idea of God s omnipotence as the solution to the problem of
evil, in relation to Augustine s Evil is the Privation of Good and the Book of Job, which incorporate
the significance of evil. This particular article takes on sort of an optimistic and religious viewpoint in
regards to the aftermath of the church shooting. The article In the Face of Evil, Prayer is the Most
Rational and Effective Response by David French explains how prayer, as mentioned in the title, is the
one method that can be utilized in response to an event like this. French explains that a time

Networks And Standards Of Network
Networks and Standards
In this piece of work I will talk about different network types, topologies, architectures and specify the
standards and protocols often related to them. Furthermore I will discuss network hardware and
software required by a PC to join a network and access shared resources. Finally, I will look into
different network services provided by the networks and the Internet.
Network Types
Personal are network
PAN is a computer network which is there to communicate with other computerised networks. This
will include things like telephones and personal assistants. PAN is something that can also be used for
communicating between the personal devices themselves or even connecting to a level higher than
that. It is also a wireless network technology which is carried over with such things like a wireless
USB or even Bluetooth. Local Area Network
A local area network is something that can be connected to a computer and also devices in such a
limited area, some examples of this would be places like at home and school. Users that is able to have
access to the network can file share only as it protected by a password. The LAN is important for
sharing resources that include files, printers and even games. The most common LAN is in my
classroom network and my home network. LANs could be wired, wireless and a mixture of the two.
The most common protocols related to wired LANs is the Ethernet (802.3) and wireless networks are
usually linked to Wi Fi (802.11) standard.

College Degree In College
Did you know, high school graduates with no college degree make nearly $530 a week less than those
with a Bachelor s degree? (BLS, 2016). Continuing your education not only means making more
money, but it provides you with better opportunities in your general life. Although college can be
expensive and stressful, it is rewarding. Spending an additional 2 4 years in college will make the rest
of your life much better than without it. Nelson Mandela once said Education is the most powerful
weapon which you can use to change the world ( BrainyQuotes, n.d. ), and I agree. With knowledge,
anything is possible for you to achieve. The more education you have, the more opportunities will find
you. I want my children to further their education past high school, whether it will be a college degree
or a certificate from a technical school. My mother went back to school in her 30 s so that we could
have a better life and not have to continue living in poverty. She quit her job at the time and went to
college fulltime to become a Registered Nurse. It wasn t always easy while she was in school, money
was even tighter than before, but once she graduated, things changed. We finally had financial stability
and structure we always wanted. Seeing my mother set a goal and work hard until she achieved it,
inspired me even at a young age. I knew I wanted to go to college so I could provide for my family
like she had for me. So I set my goal and I have almost achieve it. I will be getting a

Capital Punishment In The Criminal Justice System
The primary purpose of the criminal justice system is to protect society. All features of the system;
detaining delinquents, trials, and punishments all have costs. Reduction in any part of the criminal
justice system can potentially result in a harmful society. The question most asked about the death
penalty is, Why should honest, hardworking taxpayers, have to pay for murderers for the rest of their
life instead of executing them? Actually the death penalty is the most expensive part off the system.
According to Dr. Ernest Gross, a Creighton University economics professor, who conducted a study in
August 2016, the death penalty cost an average 23.2 million more per year than alternative sentences
(Gross). The study found that states with the death penalty spend about 3.54% of overall state budgets
on court, corrections and other criminal justice functions associated with the death penalty, while
states without the death penalty spend about 2.93% on those functions (Gross). The death penalty is
more expensive than life without parole because the constitution requires an extensive and complex
judicial process for capital crimes. This is to ensure that innocent men and women are not executed for
crimes they did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to thirty law enforcement officials, By pursuing life without parole instead of death
sentences, resources now spent on the death penalty prosecutions and appeals could be used to
investigate unsolved homicides, modernize crime labs, and expand effective violence prevention
programs. If states replaced the death sentence with life without parole, taxpayers can save money,
while also ensuring the public s

Taxi Driver Social Context
Taxi Driver, a 1976 thriller directed by Martin Scorsese grants onlookers a grimy view into the lonely,
slowly deteriorating life of the disturbed New York City cabbie Travis Bickle (Robert DeNiro), a
Vietnam War veteran. Viewers are guided through Bickle s take on N.Y.C. through the masterful use
of aesthetically pleasing camera techniques such as the rule of thirds that bring focus onto the
characters onscreen without causing the eye discomfort. Sound choices further immerse the audience
in the buildup to and execution of up close, violent, and mental action that ensues later in Travis story.
However, Travis focused story is not simply delivered through some indescribable magic of film. To
fully appreciate how Taxi Driver is put together ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of the camera s use of leading lines is visible in the scene where Bickle asks the all too
famous question You talkin to me? (Taxi Driver, 1976) A vigilant viewer may notice that the
background seems to be tilted outwards leading from the left side of the shot to the right side, with
Travis upper body and head remaining on the right side of the shot. A sensation of being led by the
background to the image of Travis may be noticed by the viewer, as the angle of said background tilts
towards Travis image. Making use of this technique both accents and emphasizes Bickle s presence
onscreen. Leading lines camerawork does not disappear from the film, either. It enhances around three
quarters of the scenes where some story related event occurs. This technique draws more attention to
the story, as it leads the viewer s eye to many of the characters/ events occurring

The Success Of The British East India Company
A very profitable organization for the British, The British East India Company was successful gaining
resources within India and trading them abroad during the Seventeenth and Eighteenth centuries. One
of the main reasons for the successes of the East India Company before 1783 was their ability to
create trade monopolies in Bengal following the Battle of Plassey. Being the greatest military power in
the world allowed the British to impose these monopolies, which the East India Company and their
staff abused for massive profits. In the Battle of Plassey, Robert Clive was able to lead the British East
India Company to victory, claiming the cherished prize of Bengal. The British East India Company
were able to efficiently trade salt, saltpetre, opium, and especially silks and textiles from Bengal. The
Battle of Plassey was a marvelous victory for the British in Bengal due to their ability to freely trade
following the conflict. The British East India Company was successful in Bengal and contributed great
economic gains for the British with little resistance following the Battle of Plassey. Beginning with the
creation of the East India Company and a brief history, we can see how the British East India
Company became successful. Founded on 31 December 1600, and chartered by Queen Elizabeth, the
English company was one among several European trading ventures that sought to tap the riches of
the East . Among others, including the French and Dutch, the British wished to get

The Imorality Of War In Mythology, By Edith Hamilton, And...
Members of the human race can be very petty, able to create huge issues from small things. The Trojan
war is an example of such.Through the book Mythology, by Edith Hamilton, and the Iliad, written by
the greek poet Homer, war is displayed as bruta, petty, and wicked. The war begun over a dense
reason, the kidnapping of a beautiful woman, Helen. The Greek leader, Menelaus wanted her back for
himself, so he and his brother, along with a fleet of a thousand ships, went to demand her return. Thus,
a bloody war started, leading to the deaths of many great soldiers, and the sacrifices of young children.
Through the book Mythology, by Edith Hamilton, and the Iliad, written by the greek poet Homer, war
is displayed as brutal and wicked. The story of the Trojan War myth criticizes the horrors and
immorality of war.
The Trojan War was a story criticizing war, showing how humans can become savages during a time
of war. On page 207, it was stated that the ongoing conflict was not fighting, it was butchery.
Furthermore, on the same page, Edith Hamilton exemplifies the battle, The Greeks ... were borne
down by desperate men who wanted only to kill before they were killed. (Hamilton, 207) This
savagery evolved from the killing between the Greeks and the Trojans to the sacrifice of children. For
example, Hector s son. In order to fully show the emotional pain involved in this ordeal, Hamilton
includes speech between Andromache (Hector s wife) and her young son. Saying goodbye to him,

About the Mormons Essay
About the Mormons
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints (also called the Mormon church) was founded at
Fayette, New York, on April 6, 1830, by Joseph Smith, Jr. Smith, the recipient of dreams and heavenly
manifestations in the 1820s, dictated to scribes the translated text of a holy book he said had been
engraved on gold plates by an American Indian historian about a.d. 400. The six hundred page Book
of Mormon was published in the spring of 1830.
The Latter day Saints church, as it is more accurately called, was intended to be a restoration of the
primitive church established by Jesus and his apostles. God was a personal being, Jesus his literal son,
and at the head of the church ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within a few weeks, Brigham Young, leader of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, was sustained as
the new prophet. Under his leadership preparations were made for removal of the church to the Great
Basin in western America. Nauvoo was abandoned in 1846. A pioneer company of 148 persons
reached the Salt Lake Valley in July 1847, where they made preparations for those to follow. About
2,000 wintered in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847 1848, and the remainder of some 16,000 exiles
migrated to the Great Basin at a rate of about 3,000 per year. Meanwhile, the 30,000 or more converts
in the eastern United States, Great Britain, and Scandinavia were arriving at a similar rate. By 1860
there were 40,000 Latter day Saints in Utah; by 1900, more than 200,000.
Some believers who chose not to follow Brigham Young founded the Reorganized Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1860 in Amboy, Illinois, with Joseph Smith III as their president.
Headquarters were later removed to Iowa and still later to Missouri, where a large auditorium and
other facilities were built. There were approximately 220,000 members of the Reorganized Church in
1990.
The Utah Mormons colonized 350 settlements in Utah, Nevada,

Ruth Handler created Barbie, after noticing her daughter playing with paper dolls and she was playing the role of a mother, as most women were expected to be. The basic standard for women were to be a housewife, and most young girl s toys were children or infants. Ms. Handler wanted to influence young girls to be anything they wanted. Barbie s purpose was to be an adult to further portray the young girl s dreams, which is why she specifically sought out an adult woman to depict her doll, this way when young girls play pretend they would seek a better future outside of motherhood. Both Malcolm x and Barbie received a great deal of criticism before becoming famous and influential, Malcolm x was viewed as a racist and a criminal, he was put in jail and spent seven years there. • 7. Antigovernment Statements through Painting While Van Gogh shut himself off from the world first, in rural Provence, and second, in an asylum in Saint Remy, other artists have used their celebrity to draw attention to contemporary political events, and to speak out against, and challenge the establishment. As mentioned above, Warhol had made art from newspaper headlines, thus drawing attention to contemporary politics on race in America. However, among the best known of such anti governmental statements is Picasso s painting Guernica, which represents a passionate attack on Spain s fascist government by the Spanish artist living in Paris. It portrays a scene of the German bombing, in 1937, of Guernica, the Basque capital of Northern Spain, during the Spanish civil war, and became a universal symbol of the atrocity of war. The scene is set within a room where, at an open end on the left, a bull flails its tail as it stands over a woman grieving over the dead child in her arms. The subjects in this painting are shown as innocent and helpless. The centre is occupied by a horse, which falls in agony as it had just been run through by a spear or javelin. The large gaping wound in its side is a major focus of the painting, reinforced by the human skull which overlays the horse s body. On the open palm of the dead soldier in the foreground is a stigmata, a symbol of martyrdom derived from a stigmata of Christ. • 9. Henry James The Bostonians ( 1886 ) Essay Henry James The Bostonians (1886) is a satirical study of the feminist movement. This novel can be read as a study of woman s quest for being a patriarch in United States of America in the 19th century. The events of The Bostonians are set in New England of U.S.A. The female characters of this novel are involved in the feminist reform movement that swept New England during the latter half of the nineteenth century. The novel appeared thirty five years before female suffrage. James foresaw the catastrophic weakenss of the feminine life force by the dominance of men over women. When Henry James started writing The Bostonians in 1883, he uncovered his intentions for this novel: I wished to write a very American tale, a tale very characteristic of our social condition, and I asked myself what was the most salient and peculiar point in our social life. The answer was: the situation of woman, the decline of the sentiment of sex, the agitation on their behalf (James, Notebooks 47). By the 1880s, some female voices had proclaimed some questions of race, gender, and sexuality. These voices influenced James s choice of the subject of The Bostonians. In one of his letters James writes: The characters are for the most part persons of the radical reforming type, who are especially interested in the emancipation of women, giving them the suffrage, releasing them from bondage, coeducating them with men, etc. They regard this as the great question of the day the most urgent and sacred ... Many have also considered this time as the organized activity of French philosophers or also known as the philosophes, who were considered an informal society men of letters that contributed to the Encyclopedie. Criminologists seek to understand the commission of crime in a given society, attempting to figure out why certain crimes occur, and then to study how these can be prevented, and deterred by individuals. The two key approaches I will examine in this assignment is that of the early Classicalist approach, and the opposing Positivist approach, each of which are crucial for understanding modern criminology today. In the late eighteenth century Britain went through an Enlightenment period, which is also referred to as The Age of Reason (Paine, 1794) and this is because reason was emphasised over religion, secularisation transformed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bentham then invented his idea of the perfect prison, the panopticon. This was a model prison where all prisoners where observed at all times by unseen guards. The Classicalist approach involves the punishments being just and reasonable, however still being able to deter individuals. This approach has been criticised by numerous theorists for many reasons. To begin with, despite this continuing change of the punishments towards offenders, from the earliest codes of public executions, towards a more subtle reformation and rehabilitation scheme, the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 mirrors this idea, murder rates have not significantly changed. Also this theory emphasises much on rational thinking and freewill, however it is debated that we do not always behave in our best interest, there are times when individuals are intoxicated by alcohol so are not as conscious of their activities. Moreover, there are crimes which entails the offender gaining no rewards, and also victimless crimes illustrate that not all crimes and punishments are just . Theorists then sought to figure out another alternative way for understanding the commission of crime, as many began to doubt this theory that crime was a simple characteristic of the human nature. In the nineteenth century the Positivist approach was introduced, which brought a whole new way of thinking about criminals and certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Charles provides a perfect example of the importance a relationship has, and how not having one can bring out the darkest part of one s personality. Whereas he used East of Eden to focus on the American Dream of one s desire to make a better life for his or her children, Steinbeck uses Of mice and Men to focus on the unachievable aspect of the American Dream. In the novella, George and Lennie convey this theme through their reassurance that they will not have to tend to someone else s ranch and will soon have there own: O.K. Someday we re gonna get the jack together and we re gonna have a little house and a couple of acres an a cow and some pigs and An live off the fatta the lan , (Of Mice and Men, p. 13). Throughout the novella George repeats this line more often and it even acts as one of the few things Lennie remembers. It appears the more times they reassure themselves of this dream, the more it shifts from reality to fantasy. This dream also catches the imagination of other characters in the novel, one being Crooks. Crooks, who naturally does not believe in the luxury of dreaming, becomes transformed by Lennie s thinking: ...If you...guys would want a hand to work for nothing just his keep, why I d come an lend a hand (Of Mice and Men, p. 73). • 14. Compare And Contrast Shakespeare Sonnet 130 Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 130, were some of William Shakespeare s most famous sonnets that he ever wrote. Both sonnets are very similar with the theme of love and beauty; however they contrast each other in their purpose, style, and whom William Shakespeare is writing the sonnet to. The sonnets are both written in two different styles of writing. Sonnet 18 was written in a more traditional format, which paints the woman in a divine spotlight. Sonnet 130 however contrasts Sonnet 18 by instead of describing their subject as being beautiful they rather describing them as with imperfections and how they love that subject. Shakespeare uses a complimentary tone when he wrote Sonnet 18 and uses a more ironic and satirical tone in his Sonnet 130. For the most part, there was only the existence of local businesses because distance was a problem. However, the telegraph would allow for larger businesses to strive because of the now long distance communication. This alone greatly progresses the industrial industry because products could now be ordered from long distances and communications could be made between buildings farther away under the same company. This gave rise to the interstate companies that years later would evolve into international companies. In addition to this, the telegram gave the U.S. an advantage in combat that other countries did not yet have access to. • 20. O Neill s Non Fiction Piece, The Firecracker Boys O Neill s non fiction piece, The Firecracker Boys, provides an in depth depiction of the morality and ecological problems behind the peaceful use of nuclear bombs . Unmasking true intentions, O Neill describes the Atomic Energy Commission s (AEC) push to continue nuclear bomb testing, regardless of the global moratorium or the resulting implications it would have on national relations with the Soviets. O Neill provides a perspective that sees through all of the misconstrued data and influential power of the AEC, showing clear drivers behind the backing of these destructive practices. As a whole, The Firecracker Boys addresses both the environmental and social injustices that the AEC and its proponents wholeheartedly represented. On October 31, 1958, a global moratorium on all nuclear bomb testing was put into effect after the scientific and public community became increasingly aware of the negative effects that the radioactive fallout was having on both the ecological and social communities. Strontium 90, a toxic chemical found in this fallout was being taken up as calcium by the living organisms in the radioactive zones. According to O Neill, A single teaspoon of it, if distributed evenly among all the people on earth, would kill every one of them within a few years (O Neill, 51). Once this chemical is taken up by living organisms, it enters the immensely interconnected food chain. Specifically in Alaska, the radioactive fallout found its way into the native ... • 23. Essay On Cardiopulmonary Bypass Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) has contributed to the evolution of modern day cardiac surgery. The establishment of extracorporeal circulation has helped the surgical team to carry out complicated surgical manouevers for treatment of complex cardiac lesions, especially complex congenital cardiac lesions, some of which were hitherto considered as inoperable. The advances in equipment and use of innovative techniques in perfusion have contributed to decreased mortality and/or morbidity in patients undergoing cardiac surgery in the modern day settings. However the necessity for monitoring the patient on cardiopulmonary bypass is of paramount importance. One of the key areas monitored during CPB is the neurological status of the patient. The inherent features of CPB like unphysiological flows, the fluctuations of temperature (use of hypothermia and rewarming), practices like hemodilution, organ protection strategies and unavoidable consequences like Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS), all contribute to neurological sequelae. The possibility of neurological sequelae is enhanced in neonatal cardiopulmonary bypass, wherein the concept of extra corporeal circulation is stretched to its limits. Hence neurological monitoring assumes a central place in the practice of safe, optimal perfusion . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It receives almost 14% of the total cardiac output. • 24. Symptoms And Treatment Of Skin When asked about their major illnesses, the client stated to have hypertension, severe dyspnea, and edema. The client also stated that she suffered from a heart attack in the past, which was due to high blood pressure. Many of the client s problems branched off from the heart attack and hypertension. For example, a heart attack and high blood pressure can cause heart failure, heart failure can cause pulmonary edema, and pulmonary edema can lead to swelling of the lower extremities and dyspnea (Grossman Porth, 2014). However, the most recent hospitalization for the client was due to severe edema, and trouble breathing. Severe edema is one of the major causes for impaired skin integrity. Skin integrity is defined as the state in which an individual s skin is at risk of being adversely altered (kloop, Storey, Bronstein, 2012). There are three major factors that can relate to client s skin alteration: decreased tissue perfusion, prolonged bed rest, and pulmonary edema. One factor that can cause impaired skin integrity is decreased tissue perfusion. Decreased tissue perfusion refers to decrease in oxygen resulting in failure to nourish tissues at the capillary level (Wilson, 2012). Reduced tissue perfusion causes the body to become distressed because it is not receiving enough oxygen. This causes the blood to shunt to the core of the body where the vital organs are located, such as the heart and the brain (Grossman Porth, 2014). Since the client suffered from ... All features of the system; detaining delinquents, trials, and punishments all have costs. Reduction in any part of the criminal justice system can potentially result in a harmful society. The question most asked about the death penalty is, Why should honest, hardworking taxpayers, have to pay for murderers for the rest of their life instead of executing them? Actually the death penalty is the most expensive part off the system. According to Dr. Ernest Gross, a Creighton University economics professor, who conducted a study in August 2016, the death penalty cost an average 23.2 million more per year than alternative sentences (Gross). The study found that states with the death penalty spend about 3.54% of overall state budgets on court, corrections and other criminal justice functions associated with the death penalty, while states without the death penalty spend about 2.93% on those functions (Gross).
