How Fashion Grew Into A Very Important And Valuable Idea
Throughout the 15th, 16th, and 17th century, the concept of fashion grew into a very important and
valuable idea. Between the years of 1450 and 1648, men s upper and lower class fashion and women s
upper and lower class fashion was drastically improved by modern technology and culture. If you
were any sort of noble figure, you would have always looked completely put together no matter where
you were going. No matter what class you were in, you desired to look your best even though there
was a vast difference in what each class wore. Lower classmen opted for clothing that was easy to
move and work in, while upper classmen opted for big, costume like clothing. This was a result of
new, modern technology.
Upper class fashion was definitely the most voluminous, and heavy style of the three classes. For men
s, women s, and children s outfits there were multiple layers, with many different colors, and a large
amount of accessories. Contrasting fabrics, slashes, embroidery, applied trims, and other forms of
surface ornamentation became prominent. (Romanova) For men, the outfits always started with a
simple dress shirt similar to dress shirts men wear today, but without the collar. Instead of a fold over
collar, there was a drawstring that was tied to form a large ruffle around the neck. Over this dress shirt
you would find a doublet. A doublet is a tight jacket like vest that was meant to make the man look
slimmer. It was hip or waist length. Next was the jerkin. A jerkin was a

Albert Einstein Speech Essay
Joshua, I am going to the smoking car for a while.
Joshua opened the door to the smoking car. There were a collection of men most of them smoking
cigars and talking and laughing and drinking. Joshua sat down at a table next to a table in which two
men sat. One man had baggy clothes and was smoking a pipe. He had Brunette hair, brown eyes and
about 33 years old. The other gentleman had brown hair a moustache, glasses and was wearing a suit.
He was approximately 54. They were both speaking German, but Joshua was wearing his Universal

OK, now on with the lecture. On the other end of the spectrum of physics is relativity. Now Max,
essentially invented Quantum Mechanics and I explained Relativity, well to be more specific, the
Special Theory of Relativity.
Max, Both quantum theory and relativity are two of the most successful theories that we have ever
had. The problem is that they don t play well together. That s right, two theories that are as close to
reality as we have ever come to are not compatible with each other. It doesn t make any sense, does it?
When you try to apply relativity to the very small scales of the atomic realm, suddenly the
mathematics does not make sense any more. Quantities become infinite and predictions go wildly
astray. How is this possible? If I could answer that question, I would be preparing my speech for my
Nobel Prize ceremony. The thing that makes this amazing is that each theory is so close to describing
reality that it is almost inconceivable that it could be incorrect! If either or, indeed, both theories are
wrong, it will bring about a complete revolution in our understanding of reality. Albert, I agree with
the assessment that physics requires a great deal of imagination, but this imagination is in a
straitjacket. This means that you cannot imagine anything you like. What you theorize must also
conform to everything we already know. In other words, any new theory must not only explain the

Carlson Shared Services (CSS) uses a centralized data processing model to meet business operational
requirements. The central computing environment includes an IBM mainframe, over 50 networked
servers from Hewlett Packard and Sun Microsystems. In this centralized data processing unit all the
servers and the mainframe had their separate disc storage. This dispersed data storage scheme had the
advantage of responsiveness; that is, the access time from the server to its data was minimal.
However, the data management cost was very high. There had to be backup procedures for the storage
on each server, as well as management controls to reconcile data distributed throughout the system.
RapidInsight framework enable organizations to integrate real time, streaming data, to gain real time
actionable insights, integrate and harmonize data from social media sites, public datasets, and industry
reports with data from enterprise systems (Fulton, 2015). The RapidInsight framework gives analyst
the ability to analyze data in real time to respond quickly situations in which businesses tend to

The Influence of the US and USSR in the...
During the period following World War 2.The new Zionist movement of Jews immigrating to the
Middle East to establish a homeland for all Jews in what was now Israel after being displaced for
many years. This led to conflict between the Arabs and the Jews about who had rights to this
homeland, with both the Arab Muslims and the Jewish Israelis having biblical claims to the cities in
the Middle East. This conflict was further fuelled by both the USA and the USSR as they were trying
to spread their sphere of influence by supplying aid in the form of weapons, ammunition and support
to gain access to valuable resources and water ways. However their involvement was not a direct
factor leading to the conflict between Israel and the Arab states but rather prolonging it by supplying
tools of war.
To begin with the USA had strong interests in the Middle East due to its resource rich lands and
strategic importance in the world and would secure these aims by aligning themselves with Israel to
land a foothold in the Middle East. The USA had strong interests in the Middle East for two main
reasons the first being oil. The USA has always put its sources of oil on a priority. So when the Middle
East became unstable the USA s first goal was to secure its source of oil. Secondly was the strategic
location of Middle East being the link between three continents and home to the Suez Canal a vital
shipping route from the Mediterranean to the Red sea. The USA also wanted to solidify the capitalist

the Soligen, Specific Surface Corporation (SSC) and Z Corp. Sloigen: Soligen Technology Inc. was
founded by Yehoramo Uziel, it was incorporated in Delaware in October 1991, and commenced

Specific Surface Corporation was then able to provide customers with filters that efficiently removed
particulates from dirty hot flue gas streams hence providing customers with greater power generation
efficiency. As Parrish and Jeffery brainstormed the problems on the already existing filter industry
they arrived with two major issued that were going on in the industry. They were, one people no
longer wanted to cool down gases at the source. The other issue was that people wanted more compact
filters, they wanted them smaller. However to get smaller filters one would have to get a larger surface
area. Parrish went ahead to contact companies such as ABB and Westinghouse which used a lot of
filters and were facing the similar problems. Parrish offered Jeffery the opportunity to join him and
they pursued the opportunity together and licensed the technology created by Emmanuel Sachs and
they worked on creating the smaller filters with larger surface areas. In early 1993 Mike Cima a
professor of material science at MIT introduced Parrish to the 3DP process. Cima showed Parrish how
he used it to make ceramics, Parrish then inquired if anyone was using this technology to make filters
and Cima s response was No, why don t you do it . This was a distinct advantage for Specific Surface

Empathy Belly Analysis
Empathy Belly Experience When I first put the empathy belly on I felt a whole bunch of weight hit
my stomach and I had to catch my breath for a moment. Plus, the breast part of the thing was putting
pressure against mine and it kind of hurt a little. For a second I was scared to move because I didn t
want to fall over. I was trying to imagine how much more it would be if we had to carry all the weight.
My first thoughts to walking with it on was Wow, this is really heavy. I felt a lot of pressure on my
stomach and lower back. I couldn t walk at my normal pace, I had to walk slower. I felt like I had to
slightly drag myself in order to move. I barely took 4 steps and I struggled to go any faster. I had many
challenges throughout the time period of wearing it. The first challenge was walking, the longer I had
it on the slower I got at walking because of all the weight on my back. Another challenge was the
stairs, every time I walked up the stairs I felt like the weight was going to knock me backwards or
cause me to miss a step. Then, when I was going down the stairs, I felt like I was going to fall forward
or slip. I had to hold on to the railings as I walked on them. Another challenge would be sitting in the
desks. The belly was too big to completely sit in the desk facing forward, so I had to sit sideways and
turn my body in order to write or look up at the board. One last struggle I had was when I had to sign

Steven Truscott Case Summary
Steven Truscott Case June 9, 1959
Initial Description: Upon first arrival in a wooded area known as Farmer Lawson s bush on June 11,
1959, investigators discovered Lynne s partially clothed body. The rest of her clothes were neatly
folded beside her. There was obvious signs of strangulation, with her blouse being wrapped around her
neck, and a first assumption of sexual assault due to the fact that the body was partially nude. The area
was not far off the road which Lynne was last seen travelling upon with Steven Truscott.
Police Investigation: The O.P.P were called in to investigate the case with Harold Graham leading the
investigation. On June 12, 1959 Clinton police took Steven Truscott into questioning. They
interrogated him all night without a lawyer present or his parents, ... Show more content on

Sign Language Is A Complex System Of Communication
There is not movement that does not speak both a language intelligible without instructions (Mirzoeff
16). Sign Language is a complex system of communication; a language which uses visual gestures and
signs made by one s hands blended with the use of facial expressions, body positions, and other
gestures. Sign Language has played a significant role in deaf and hard of hearing culture and is the
major communication alternative for those whom are deaf or hard of hearing with a beautiful history
of origin. Beings who were deaf did not have a voice to communicate with, but when Sign Language
was created it gave said individuals a symbolic voice. Sign language started a new culture for the deaf
and brought deaf people around the world together. Sign language is seen as an authentic language
therefore, there are many different variations of the language in each country such as American Sign
Language (ASL), French Sign Language (LSF), Spanish Sign Language (LSE), and many others. With
all those different variations of sign language there are also some that sign differently, for example,
Australian sign language uses the two handed alphabet method, while American Sign Language (ASL)
uses the one handed alphabet method ( Auslan ). There are over 300 sign languages in use all over the
world and there is no single form of sign language that is universal because each variation is unique to
its specific region as any other language. Sign language is a remarkable form of communication and

The Importance Of Playing Basketball
Basketball is my passion and it makes me happy that I decided to continue playing. However, there
was a time when I was thinking about not playing again due to an awful experience I had while
playing basketball my senior year of high school. I have soon come to realize that not all coaches are
the same, for example, my high school basketball coach is very different to my college basketball
coach, especially when it comes to their coaching styles and attitudes towards their players and
coaching staff.
It is easily said that playing basketball my senior year of high school was my least favorite season.
The season was my least favorite, not because of my teammates, but due to the head coach. He only
designed plays to showcase our point guard, who is the person that calls the plays that we run on the
court. He also had the coaching style where things were either his way or you did not play. For
instance, if someone, other than our point guard, were to receive a pass and was wide open for a shot,
he would yell at them because they were not meant to shoot the ball in that play. However, in the other
coaches and players eyes it would seem pointless for them to not take the chance and shoot the ball,
especially if they are wide open. One could make the assumption that he was focused more on the
guards than on the group as a whole, but my college coach is nothing like that.
I may have only been playing ball in college for one month, but I can say with great confidence that

The Night By Elie Wiesel
Elie Wiesel s Night chronicles his experience surviving in a concentration camp. He, along with every
other Jew in his town, and many more throughout Europe, were sent to concentration camps for no
fault of their own. Hitler, the fascist dictator of Germany and most of Europe, hated them because of
their religion. He considered them a separate, inferior race and created the concentration camps to kill
them all. Elie lost his mother, little sister, father, and nearly everyone he knew to these factories of
death.
I enjoyed reading Night because of how brutally honest Elie was, as well of the significance of this
book. The actual experience of reading this, hearing about starvation, brutality, and watching everyone
you love suffer, is something not even the most masochistic can enjoy. However, this book is
something everyone should read. We all need to face the reality of the Holocaust, and this book forces
the reader to confront it, in cold and sparse prose.
There many intensely emotional scenes in the book. One that stands out to me is the brief fleeting
glimpse Elie catches of his sister s face, just before she is taken to die in a gas chamber. (Wiesel, page
29) The scene in real life lasted perhaps only a second, but it is heartbreaking to read. It will be the last
time he ever sees her or his mother. Elie has no idea what is happening, or that this will be the last
time he sees his mother or sister ever again. Although tht enetire book is filled with scenes of horror,

after World War II, the development of air travel dented the growth of cruising, as it became more

Some of these small scale, tailor made holidays are expensive, but not all a no frills option such as
Windjammer might be the way to go if you need to keep costs down (quite possibly a better way to go
than a cheap holiday on a big ship). If you re concerned about safeguarding your calm and sanity, you
may want to choose a line which has an adults only option: P O, for example, has two adult only
cruisers. On the other hand, if you are taking the kids, you ll want a ship which caters for them it could
be a long trip for all concerned if they re not sufficiently entertained. P O, again, is among the
companies which have vessels with spaces and activities devoted to little people who are full of beans.
But most of the large ships will cater for children with clubs and activities which will allow you and
them to relax and have fun. These include Carnival, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and of course, Disney.
Services and facilities Although often luxurious, ocean liners had characteristics that made them
unsuitable for cruising, such as high fuel consumption, deep draught that prevented them from
entering shallow ports, enclosed weatherproof decks that were not appropriate for tropical weather,
and cabins designed to maximize passenger numbers rather than comfort (few if any private verandas,

Lab Report On Gram-Negative Bacteria
In the world of microbiology it is vitally important to be able to discern the identities of
microorganisms. Not only is it important in a lab setting but as well as in healthcare in general.
Properly identify what strain of bacteria a person has will aid in the proper medicine and dose given.
Throughout the semester we have learned about different types of bacteria and certain test that can
clearly identify them. The purpose of this lab report is to identify a Gram positive or Gram negative
bacterium. Using all the knowledge of procedures and lab techniques identify the unknown and
discuss all the tests you performed.
Introduction
Gram staining is a technique used to determine if the bacteria is Gram positive or Gram negative.
Gram staining procedure uses crystal violet stain, iodine moderator, alcohol decolorizer and safarin
counter stain. In Gram negative bacteria the primary stain will be washed out with the decolorizer and
it will be stained with the counterstain. Whereas in Gram positive bacteria the primary stain will not
leave the cell wall. This difference comes from difference in the structure of the cell wall that retains
the stain.
The Gram positive cell wall is composed of peptidoglycans, a thick layer of protein sugar complexes
taking up 60 90% of their cell wall. Peptidoglycan is composed of two glucose derivatives, N
acetylmuramic acid and N acetylglucosamine alternated and cross linked by tetrapeptides that is
composed of L alanine, D glutamine, L lysine

Urban Real Estate Economics And Juxtaposes Them With...
THEORETICAL BACKGROUND
This paper discusses and analyses modern theories of urban real estate economics and juxtaposes them
with traditional theories. In earlier times, city life used to revolve around a central business district
(CBD) which was the nerve centre of all economic, social and cultural activity. As a result, real estate
prices reflected the proximity of the site to the CBD and they dropped the further one went from it.
The dichotomy is often expressed through architecture, with high rise apartment buildings in the city
and low rise developments further out. Alonso, 1964; Mills, 1972 and Muth, 1969 mulled on this
model of cities and viewed real estate economic data and ran studies through the lens of a monocentric

It is based on the law of diminishing returns that over time, produce from a certain land parcel will
decline in quantity and quality, yielding lower and lower profits, while at the same time, pressure on
the land in the form of population will always rise. As it is the amount paid by the lessee for the
indestructible powers of the land, different parcels with different fertility capacities will command
different rents. As the amount of land is finite, the cost of production will also keep rising. Applying
this theory to urban real estate, a monocentric city would have finite space for development due to
which costs of construction will rise, passing on the burden to the buyer.
Von Thunen, on the other hand, concerned himself with location and transportation costs in addition to
fertility as factors determining price. He attributed differential rents to distances between places with
desirable qualities and the costs of transporting oneself between them. At its most basic, the theory
stands for the hypothesis that without the need for proximity and the price (rent) charged for it, land
would be an almost free good.
For two residential locations to have near identical prices, not only must they be located close to each
other, but they must also provide the same level of utility to residents. This is because the decisions of
location

Video Games And Its Effects On The World
Video games have been around since the 1950 s due to computer scientists designing and making A.I
and other simulators as research. The video games that people came to love were starting to be made
in the late 1970s to early 1980s. Some would say that games back then were much harder than the
games being produced today. The game Mega Man being a huge contributor to this statement, due to
its very challenging levels and boss stages. While some of that is true, there are games being made
today that are just as hard, if not harder than those made previously. A game that has become very

After that prepare to have everyone in the game yell at someone for that person doing terribly. These
are the worst ways to get better at League of Legends. Why would someone want to start playing the
game? For one, there is a giant community of 67 million players (Stevenson) to be precise. Those who
can become the best at the game can even make some money playing it, by playing for a professional
team or streaming. Players that aren t so great at the game tend to copy whatever the best players are
doing because they believe: If that player did that well on X character, that means that champion is
good . While in some cases this is true, Those players have more knowledge about the characters in
the game, as well as how they play against other characters. So someone who is newer to the game
might not realize that, when X character is up against X champion, That they won t do as well as that
profesional player did. By copping something that another player has done that worked for them, does
not mean it will work for everyone and it most certainly wouldn t make a player better. It requires
knowledge that comes with practice. The only way to practice is by playing the game.
Starting with the game, there are many things that someone would need to know about the game.
From how all the characters work to what each role is in the game. The game itself consists of a flat

The Market Crash of 2008
The stock market is what one would know as a collective group of buyers/sellers that trade stocks,
also known as shares on a stock exchange. These securities are listed on the exchange itself and trade
freely each and every day. On the exchange, stocks move hands day in and day out. Companies are
able to get their stock listed on the exchange at any time that they want. There are other stocks,
too...known as OTC stocks or over the counter stocks that go through a specific dealer. Larger
companies tend to have their stocks listed on exchanges all throughout the world. Participants in the
market can be anyone from your grandma, to retail investors, day traders, institutional investors, and
so forth. One notable exchange is the NYSE; also known as The New York Stock Exchange. Moving
forward, a stock market crash is when a decline of stock prices takes place throughout the stock
market that results in a catastrophic loss of wealth via paper. The crashes are driven strictly by panic 9
times out of 10 a crash takes place. As a crash is happening, panic occurs; the panic keeps evolving
and ends up like the snowball effect before you know it. A crash occurs when economic events take
place. These events are always bad news... The behavior of traders follows, which leads to a crash
when panic ensues. Crashes normally occur of a seven day period and may extend even further.
Crashes happen in bear markets as the market is already weak to begin with. Once traders see a drop
in prices,

Why Is Google Analytics Important
Google Analytics is a powerful tool to track website traffic. As a website owner, you should
implement it as soon as possible. If you re struggling with that, then this tutorial will show you how to
add Google Analytics to WordPress step by step.
But why is Google Analytics so important?
Because Google Analytics helps you to find out what your traffic is doing on your website. You can
track the source where your readers are coming from, for example through social media or if search

Soft Drinks Should Be Taxed
Soft drinks should be taxed
Considering that soft drink are one of the most popular drinks to a lot of people all around the world,
unfortunately, a lot of them love to drink it almost every day and may not live without it. Soda
becomes addictive, preventing one from drinking what the body needs the most which is water. In the
market, there is an infinite amount of choices with multiple varieties of flavors, different tastes, and
ranges from classic soda to diet soda. However, consumers do not recognize clearly the negative effect

It is a huge amount of sugar. Scientists started studies on the soft drink consumption and linked that
amount of sugar in the soft drink to dental erosion, increase energy intake and related to obesity. We
found clear associations of soft drink intake with increased energy intake and body weight. Soft drink
intake also was associated with lower intakes of milk, calcium, and other nutrients and with an
increased risk of several medical problems (e.g., diabetes) said Lenny R. Vartanian Generally, tooth

and dental erosion, Citric acid is the predominant acid in non cola drinks and is especially erosive to
teeth because it collates calcium effectively (Radomski, 41). If a kid drink a can of soda every day, his
enamel will be declining, stained teeth and cavities and plaque will start to build their teeth.

Life in Italy in the 1930 s caused difficulty to some Italians during that time period. During the 1930 s
a large number of Italians who had opposed the fascist rule of Benito Mussolini arrived in the United
States. After the news spread in Italy about the bombing of Pearl Harbour almost all Italians supported
the war against Benito Mussolini. At this point, Italy was slowly becoming under the Nazi rule, the
significance of a woman s role in Italy was emphasised as they were expected to accept the fascist
ideology. Girls were expected to get married and conceive lots of children. Many young women in
Italy felt the pressures of politics that were dominated by men and felt that women s rights were

Abstract art started making inroads into the industry and artists like Salvador Dali and Kurt Schwitters
became famous for this time of art. Abstract art was disliked by Mussolini as this type of art was very
different and modern, it had its own identity however, Musslolini only accepted traditional religious
paintings to be a part of the Italian lifestyle. Artistic freedom was further restricted by Mussolini s
introduction of Fascist design and mass communication this included posters, radio and TV
commercials which stole numerous ideas from the fine arts and showed the public a distorted view of
this art phenomenom.
During the 1930 s the public began to feel the effects of the Great Depression, many designers were
restricted in experimenting with new fashions due to the fall in the economy and the rise in
employment. However, this difficult time period did not stop women from flocking to the shops to
enjoy the new fashion craze that was arising. Women were expected to wear clothing that was sombre
and modest, it reflecting the difficult social and economical situation of the decade. In Italy, women s
fashions moved away from the seductive and daring style of the 1920s towards more romantic,
feminine silhouette inspired fashion. Fashion was more significant during this time period in Italy

Nanotechnology For Enhanced Solar Conversion
Egbo Kingsley O. PhD in Nanostructures for Enhanced Solar Conversion Research Proposal Abstract
The possibilities of employing a nanoscale metal topography that will employ surface plasmon
excitation phenomena towards improving the light absorption efficiency of organic solar cells will be
investigated. This goal is achievable by analytically designing and producing optically active
nanostructures which are used to excite surface plasmons at the wavelengths range dictated by the sun
in order to support the confinement of light beyond the diffraction limit, thus leading to high weighted
enhancements over a wider range of the solar spectrum. This can be achieved by employing
nanostructured materials with unique properties tailored for the materials characteristics of II VI
nanorod systems across the solar spectrum capable of creating significant enhancements while
preventing unwanted thermal losses. Also external quantum efficiency measurements on the
nanostructured cells will be made, this is expected to demonstrate a substantial photon absorption
enhancement across the solar spectrum. Finally, key insights into light absorption and trapping
mechanisms in these plasmon enhanced cells through a combination of three dimensional finite
difference time domain simulations, optical absorption, and external quantum efficiency
measurements will be obtained Introduction The increasing population of the world is making
demands on the availability of energy supply and research has

Response To Essay For The Birds
Should we be feeding the birds? It should not be done because it makes the birds lazy unhealthy and
easier prey for predators. In the passage For the Birds the author claims that bird feeders will bring
wildlife to your backyard. They also state that having feeders attracts the birds to your yard so if you
have trees, bushes, flowers or any thing like that, it can provide a safe haven away from predators.
This is great for bird watchers because you can watch them as they eat, and if you want to attract a
particular species of bird to watch then you can put out a particular seed.
In the passage Stop Feeding Wild Birds, the author agrees with my opinion and stated that you
shouldn t feed wild birds. They say that having these artificial

Human Trafficking And Modern Day Slavery Essay
Human Trafficking There is an ever growing problem that is coursing the world. Every day 3,287
people are sold or kidnapped, and are forced into slavery. (Human Trafficking Statistics Reports 2012)
Most people do not realize that modern day slavery happens closer to home than they think. 14,000
17,500 is the estimated number of people trafficked into the United States each year. (Human
Trafficking Statistics Reports 2012) The government has tried to reduce this problem as well as
everyday people. Most everyone knows of this issue, but do not know how to help prevent the
situation from happening. Human trafficking is the term used today for modern day slavery. (Hart 5)
This modern day slavery is something that needs to be stopped. With all of the many causes of human
trafficking, it becomes difficult for government agencies to prevent the act of modern day slavery.
During the 1990s, the United States began to take steps to address human trafficking at home and
abroad. ( Human Trafficking Agencies 6) Along with government agencies, everyday people need to
become more aware in order to stop the ever growing problem. Human trafficking happens because of
the large profit brought in through the act and the difficulty of government agencies to identify cases.
By increasing funding in training human trafficking prosecutors, law enforcement and judges the
human trafficking business will be under greater risk, leading to the downfall of the human trafficking
business.

The American Red Cross Essay
Whether it is a local flood or a national disaster, there is always one organization there to help, the
American Red Cross. Each year the organization turns down no one in need, benefits 70,000 people in
disaster relief, along with saving three lives every time a person donates blood. The American Red
Cross has evolved through the years and is still known as one of the most important nonprofit
organizations in the world.
The American Red Cross has been around since 1881 and is now the nation s leading emergency
response organization. At the beginning, the organization only focused on disaster relief and helped
benefit the United States Armed forces. In 1940, the blood program was created under the leadership
of Dr. Charles Drew. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every day in the United States hurricanes, floods, fires, accidents and other disasters happen. Once the
organization is contacted, they are more than likely the first organization to respond. During hard
times, the American Red Cross has a giving site where volunteers can go online and buy items to help
support the victims of the disaster. For 18 dollars a volunteer can donate three blankets. For 20 dollars
a volunteer can give hot meals to two people. For 2,000 dollars, a volunteer can supply a food truck
that will be rushed to the victims of a disaster. 91 percent of its funds on programs support around 200
disasters in the United States daily. Along with victims of disaster, the organization sponsors members
of the U.S. Armed Forced and the families of the people serving our country. Along with the giving
site for disaster relief the American Red Cross also provides comfort kits for 50 dollars that will
support wounded members of the military. The comfort kit will include a phone card, robe, shower

Pardoners Tale, Chaucer, Canterbury Essays
The Pardoner s Subconscious Character
quot; The Pardoner s Tale, quot; by Geoffrey Chaucer, makes evident the parallel between the internal
emotions of people and the subconscious exposure of those emotions. This particular story, from The
Canterbury Tales, is a revealing tale being told by a medieval pardoner to his companions on a journey
to Canterbury. Though the Pardoner s profession is to pardon and absolve the sins of people, he
actually lives in constant violation of sins such as gluttony, gambling, and, most importantly, avarice.
The Pardoner does feel guilt and advocates not to commit avarice; he exclaims, quot; Radix malorum
est Cupiditas, quot; (line 426) as his theme more than once. Because he ... Show more content on

The old man is the guide to spiritual and physical death, as is easily seen by the deaths of the three
rioters. Thus, the old man looks of death: quot;Lo how I vanysshe, flessh, and blood, and skyn! quot;
(Line 732). On the other hand, the Pardoner s profession is to absolve sinners and steer them towards
life; he guides people to spiritual and even physical life! Therefore, he personifies all that is pure and
innocent, such as a youthful and innocent boy. Both, with this physical aid, do good jobs of preaching
to people to get their desired results.
The eager minds of the people and the skill of the two preachers are what lead the people to either life
or death. It is obvious that the Pardoner does not actually use sacred relics to cure anything:
quot;Relikes been they, as wenen they echoon / Thanne have I in latoun a sholder boon / Which that
was of an hooly Jewes sheep. quot; (Lines 349 51). He has actually quot;cured quot; those who come
to him seeking salvation and pardon. This mindset, with the addition of the Pardoner s great skill in
making himself sound so innocent and pure, is what actually cures the people. The people just need
something tangible, like the fake relics, to hold on to and believe in to be quot;cured quot;. Again, the
same is true for the old man. The three rioters that come to him are already in search of and eager to
find Death, as opposed to life or salvation. When the old man points them in the right

Analysis Of The Movie Cool Hand Luke
In the movie Cool Hand Luke, Luke Jackson (Paul Newman) is arrested for cutting the heads off the
town s parking meters. His punishment seems extreme, as he is sentenced to two years on a chain
gang at a Florida prison. Although Luke received several decorations in the war, including the silver
star, he never rises above a private in the Army. This suggests perhaps he has a resentment for those in
authority. Luke and three other prisoners are brought to the prison and made to line up in front of the
main prison guard, Captain (Strother Martin): You call the Captain Captain ...and you call the rest of
us Boss , you hear? (Rosenberg, 1967) Captain has coercive power, which is defined as the potential
to influence rooted in the ability to physically or psychologically punish. (Kathleen S. Verderber,
2001) The prison also exhibits a high power distance culture, which is a culture in which both high
and low power holders accept the unequal distribution of power. (Kathleen S. Verderber, 2001) Luke
is put in a bunkhouse with the rest of the prisoners and a strutting, cigar smoking guard named Carr
(Clifton James). Luke s contempt is immediately obvious to the others and he draws the attention of
Dragline (George Kennedy), the leader of the chain gang. One of the men tells Luke: You don t have a
name here until Dragline gives you one. (Rosenberg, 1967) When Luke tells one of the prisoners his
name, Dragline replies: Maybe we ought to call it No Ears. You don t listen well,

The main reason for the transcontinental railroads to be built was to bring the east and west together.
The building of these railroads caused huge economic growth throughout the United States. The
railroad created opportunities for everyone across the US.
Railroads were the first big business, the first magnet for the great financial markets, and the first
industry to develop a large scale management bureaucracy. The railroads opened the western half of

doing created an interconnected national market. At the same time the railroads were themselves

(Railroad Land Grants)
The building of the railroads:
During the 1870 s, railroad construction in the United States grew dramatically. Prior to 1871 only
45,000 miles of track had been laid. Between 1871 and 1900, another 170,000 miles were added on to
the United States increasing railroad system. A large portion of the growth can be attributed to the
building of the transcontinental railroads. In 1862, Congress passed the Pacific Railway Act, which
authorized the Union Pacific Railway Company and Central Pacific to complete a railroad all the way
to the Pacific Ocean. One company started on the West Coast and the other one started on the East
Coast. The first transcontinental railroad was completed on May 19, 1869. Both lines of the railroad
met at Promontory Point Utah where a ceremonial golden spike was driven with a silver plated
hammer to commemorate the event. Soon after the completion of the first transcontinental railroad,
land grants were no longer public policy due to the fact that many people began questioning giving
away so much land to private companies. Between 1850 and 1870, over 129 million acres had been
granted to about 80 railroad companies. The value of this was more than half a billion dollars. Due to
the land give away, many fortunes were made. Some were made from sales of land that was left over
because it was not used for the railroad and some of

Adult Criminals
To hold adolescents to the same level of responsibility as adults in the legal system is an appalling
notion, as an adolescent s thought processes are not fully formative. There are already more effective
systems in place that are specifically geared towards adolescents, and being imprisoned with adults
would also be detrimental to the impressionable mind of a youth. While it is important for anyone who
commits a crime to be held accountable, the level to which the person may take responsibility will
vary heavily, depending on age. Adolescents are not legally considered adults for a plethora of
reasons, one of which being their rudimentary mental capacities. The treatment of a juvenile crime

In Memory Of Wb Auden Analysis
Representations of perspectives, notions, and circumstances embody political principles and their
repercussions, often emphasising the disconnect between societies and their leaders. This idea is
particularly evident in WH Auden s poems, In Memory of WB Yeats (1939) and September 1 1939
(1939) which portrays a Modernist s opinions on political events and personalities while acting as
vehicles for expounding political opinions. Similarly, Malala Yousafzai s Speech to the United Nations
(2013) explores the importance of free speech when subjugated, to regain freedom. Hence, both texts
offer a socio political insight into the necessity of an unconstrained voice in breaking through unjust
institutions that suppress and erode our free will. In In Memory of WB Yeats, Auden parallels
historical and political events and personalities, using the legacy of WB Yeats to represent the
necessity of powerful literature in influencing political perspectives. He presents the poem in the form
of an elegy to show his admiration of Yeats influence despite his death as explicated in words of a

my fate, knowing I would spend an extra three weeks on the streets, I remained optimistic and planned

A Project Manager For The Success Of Acer Inc.
I Worked with Nokia Solutions Networks as a Project Manager for many years. Acer is one of the
largest telecommunication companies in the world. Over the years, the company has emerged from a
small local business to become successfully global. Its visionary founder took into account its difficult
path as the best way in which the company could prosper towards the acquisition of the global market.
As Barrow (2011) contends, one of the factors that has promoted the success of Acer Inc. is the proper
financial systems and budget employed in the management of its finances. For example, in 1976, it
was founded with a capital of US$25ooo, but has grown steadily to become a multibillionaire
company, together with its other close competitors (Barrow, 2011).
Running a company often requires carefully planning and review of finances. Various studies reveal
that most companies use other forms of accounting mainly for measuring, identifying, analyzing, and
reporting their financial information. In spite of making tremendous success, proper financial budget
planning is still important for the development and success of Acer Company. In this way, accounting
tools may include financial statements, forecasts, and other may be employed. Proper budget planning
is important to the business in the following ways. Firstly, through the budget, detailed information on
the analysis of how the company anticipates spending its finances, in future times can be revealed.

Gender Impact On Class And Gender
Effect of Class and Gender Do class and gender affect how individuals act or behave? Society has
evolved throughout the years and with that evolution, the people have separated themselves by factors
such as class and gender. This separation started many centuries ago and made a large appearance in
the Great Depression and Civil Rights Movement. Along with this division of people, actions and
behaviors seem to have been paired with certain classifications of people. In prior eras, women were
seen as fragile and not earners due to needing to stay at home and take care of children. On the
contrary, men were seen as masculine and earned a decent amount of money from working all day
long. Even though genders evolved into how they are now with women working alongside men, the
separation is still visible. Women are still fighting to get paid the same amount as men, resulting in a
certain behavior based on the gender. This behavior is one where women try to get equal pay through
comparable worth instead of just staying quiet like women used to. The factors of class and gender
cause a difference in an individual s actions and behavior in the ways of not socializing with certain
types of people, creating stereotypes, and behaving in a way to fit the norms of the specific class or
gender. There are many different articles written that can help describe how socialization, generalized
ideas, and standards cause individuals in different genders and classes to act in a certain way. A few of
the most important are Post Princess Models of Gender: The New Man in Disney/Pixar by Gillam and
Wooden, Seeing and Making Culture: Representing the Poor by hooks, and Girls Bodies, Girls Selves:
Body Image, Identity, and Sexuality by Lipkin. All of these articles have aspects that point towards the
fact that different reason cause individuals to perform their everyday activities in a certain way. Gillam
and Wooden explain in their article that new films produced by Disney and Pixar have changed the
idea of masculinity from one of the past to one that accepts the more traditional femininity. Hooks
article portrays how she personally was told she was unable to go to college because of her poverty

A Discourse Community Of The World Acts And Communicates...
Discourse communities are everywhere. Everywhere we and go and almost everything we do relates
or falls into a discourse community of some sort. Whether it s a long, pointless conversation on the
phone with a best friend or being part of a school croquet club, it s part of a unique discourse
community in some way. Every discourse has it s own distinct qualities and almost all have a different
way of communicating. These discourses are strong influences on all of our personalities. The way
every human in the world acts and communicates is influenced by one or multiple discourse
communities.
The main non academic discourse that I consider myself to be a part of is weightlifting. I used to be

The gym was so confusing. Everyone had an odd lingo that I had never had any experience with. They
used certain words that I had never heard before. They dressed in revealing clothes. I was unable to
figure out the distinction between sets and reps, which it turned out that those two words are the most
utilized terms in weightlifting. I always heard words like lat, core, one rep max, spot, lower, etc. It was
comparable to learning a new language for me. But with time and learning, I came to understand what
was being said or asked in the gym environment. Seeing my father go everyday and him being an
authority figure, definitely inspired my love for weightlifting. To this day I love the discourse
community of weightlifting and consider myself an avid member who plans to be a member until my
body ceases to cooperate.
In weightlifting, there are certain ways to communicate and talk about lifting or what is being done.
Every exercise has a name that is commonly known among the discourse community, such as
dumbbell side raises, decline bench press, front lat pulldown, and those are just a few examples. There
are hundreds of terms for naming exercises. The most commonly used terms in weightlifting are rep
and set. A rep is repetitions of the movement and a set is how many times someone performs a number
of reps. In order to function is this community, I had to learn these words considering they were

How to Classify Toxicants
In essence, toxicology is the science of poison, toxicants, or toxins. A poison toxicant, or toxic is a
substance capable of causing harm when administered to an organism. Harm is defined as seriously
injuring or causing the death of an organism. The term toxicant can be a synonym for poison, or the
term poison might be appropriate for the most potent substances. The term toxin usually refers to a
poison derived from a protein or conjugated protein produced by some higher plant, animal, or
pathogenic bacteria that is highly poisonous for other living organism. Food toxicology deals with
substances found in food that might be harmful to those who consume sufficient quantities of the food
containing such substances. Toxicants can be classified according to five categories. First category is
based on their chemical structure, for example, aromatic amines (aniline), halogenated hydrocarbons
(PCBs, and methylene chloride). Second category is based on their usage such as pesticides (atrazine),
solvents (benzene) and food additives (saccharin). Other category is according to their physical state
like gases (carbon monoxide), liquids (methanol) and solids (asbestos). Besides that toxicants also
classified based on their toxic effect like mutagens (diethylnitrosamine), and hepatotoxins
(chloroform). Lastly, toxicants are classified based on their biochemical mechanism of a toxic effect
such as cholinesterase inhibitors (malathion) and methemoglobin forming substances (nitrite). Food

Animals And Animal Nature
Let there be light, Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from
the waters of the earth. Let the waters beneath the sky flow together into one place, so dry ground may
appear. Let the land sprout with vegetation every sort of seed bearing plant, and trees that grow seed
bearing fruit. These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came. Let
lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them be signs to mark the seasons,
days, and years. Let these lights in the sky shine down on the earth. Let the waters swarm with fish
and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind. Be fruitful and multiply. Let the fish fill
the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth. Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each
producing offspring of the same kind livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and wild
animals. Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the
sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that
scurry along the ground. Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in
the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.

Theme Of Bravery In IM Not Scared
The film Life is Beautiful directed by Roberto Benigni and Niccolò Ammaniti s film I m not Scared
explore the theme of bravery of their protagonists in their comparatively dissimilar settings. The 1997
Italian film Life is Beautiful follows the life of a charming man who uses his humor to win over the
woman of his dreams and bravely save his family from the tragedy in Italy during the Second World
War. Also set in the late 1970s in rural southern Italy, the film I m not Scared encompasses
imprisonment and the developing friendship of Michele and Filippo who is kidnapped for ransom.
Filippo is chained up and hungry when Michelle discovers him in a pit near an abandoned house and
he helps the boy out. Bravery is prominently explored in both texts through dialogue, colour, and
setting.
Benigni and Ammaniti present bravery through the dialogue presented by the protagonists Guido and
Michele. The dialogue that Guido speaks reveals plenty about his personality and nature and gives the
audience a firm understanding of his character. The beginning of the film presents a lot of humor and
the audience is introduced to a fairytale like story. Guido constantly uses his wit and comedic nature to
impress his lover Dora, and often on their encounters he enthusiastically exclaims Buongiorno
Princess! By referring to Dora as a princess illustrates that Guido believes she is perfect and seeing as
he repeatedly says this phrase also conveys his ability to appear when least expected. Despite the
transition in the film to a completely different setting and situation, dialogue plays a key role in
communicating to the audience Guido s ability to lift the hopes and provide ongoing love and sacrifice
for those around him. When Guido and son Joshua are separated from Dora at the concentration camp
they shout Buongiorno Princess! into the microphone. A reaction shot is then used to show Dora s
familiarity with these words and her understanding that her husband and son are alive. The use of this
common greeting is effective in this film because it conveys that despite the sudden change of lifestyle
for Guido and his family, Guido s personality ensures his humor and devotion are expressed until the
very end of the film which shows

Humanity Of Animal Experimentation
Abraham Lincoln once said, I am in favor of animal rights as well as human rights. That is the way of
a whole human being. Why is this ideal not more recognized? The usage of these animals in scientific
and cosmetic experiments has been traced as early as 500 BC, and it s still unsettling. Using animals
like this is inhumane and has the potential to harm the animals. Also, experimentation on these
animals doesn t necessarily benefit people and can be unsafe to them.
As to the inhumanity and unsafety of these experiments for animals, the US Department of
Agriculture (USDA) reported that throughout the year of 2010, 97,123 animals sustained injuries
during the experiment and were given no form of pain reliever. These animals are exposed to force
feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, the
infliction of burns and other wounds to study the healing process... This causes more than 100 million
animals to die each year from experimentation. (http://www.peta.org/issues/animals used for
experimentation/animals used experimentation factsheets/animal experiments overview/ ) Is it not
human nature to show humanity? If it is, then we, as a species, are not doing well at showing it due to
the fact that these defenseless creatures are still subjected to such brutality. ... Show more content on

why animals must be tortured or test products that may not even be fatal for the target audience,
people. Instead, we should find another source for our test subjects so that neither animals nor people

The Evolution Of Species Extinction
Globally, most of the species (both flora and fauna) are under serious threat from direct and indirect
human activities; while the direct activities such as deforestation leads to species habitat fragmentation
and loss, on the other hand modifies climatic conditions coupled with gas emissions. The synergistic
impact of these human driven activities questions the survivability of organisms in the morphed
climatic environments. At one level fragmented habitats increase intra and inter species competitions,
resulting in decline of population of species, grouping them under rare and threatened category. At
other level, the amplified global temperatures in parallel with low precipitation rates, not only creates
unsuitable external habitat conditions but also impose internal changes in biological clock and
physiological processes of the organisms, in additions to their life history traits (Reynold et al. 2003,
Price and Gittleman, 2007). This kind of changed scenario both externally and internally, brings
incompatibility in the organism to cope with fluctuating climatic conditions, finally making the
species as vulnerable and forcing into the process of extinction.
The process of species extinction accelerated with rapid human activities and in the current scenario,
many species are in the queue of extinction. We are losing our uncounted valuable biodiversity, in a
sense, we still don t have exact idea of how many species are surviving globally, and we are losing
them before we

Representation Of Women
Representation is the portrayal of something or someone in a particular way. In media every gender,
race and ethnicity is represented in a certain way. Over the years women have been represented
stereotypically as sex symbols and have been objectified to men. In this essay I will be talking about
how women are represented in the media. I will be using Beyonce s music video Run the world ,

In this image we see two 13 year olds of different generations, the one on the left was taken 10 years
ago and the one on the right was taken 2 years ago. We can see a clear distinction between then and
now. The photo on the left shows a young teenage girl wearing jeans and a shirt with a jacket. If she is
wearing any makeup it is very neutral and innocent, the image doesn t show off any assets or suggests
anything sexual. Whereas the image to he right she is wearing a pantsuit with a really low V cut. She
has a full face of makeup on and her hair slicked back into a high ponytail. The difference that a
decade can make blows my mind. Children are being exposed to women wearing small skimpy
clothing and a face full of make up. I believe that since they are on T.V children are looking up to
them wanting to be like them. This is where children are exposed to how men are treating women and
how women are treating themselves. Kids don t know any better they just want to be like their
favourite movie star or singer and copy how they act, dress and present themselves. This is why
society is like this nowadays. Back when music videos were innocent and didn t represent women as a
sexual icon it was okay for children to watch them, but nowadays parents need to be very aware of
what their children are watching, even if

My Great-Grandfather s Slaves By Wendell Berry
Wendell Berry s past is more than just his own in My Great Grandfather s Slaves, but his past is
intertwined with the slaves that grew up with. A quick reading of this poem by Berry would not give
the reader that he was connected with the slaves, but rather that they lived separate lives. Berry says
he sees the slaves and their activities but does not ever write about how they are connected until the
very last stanza. After reading the final stanza it gives the rest of the poem a new meaning and if the
reader does not take the time to closely re read the writing they will miss out on what Berry is really
trying to portray. Wendell Berry is trying to show the reader how his past is linked with the past of his
grandfather s slaves with his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Berry saw all the terrible things that slaves had to live through which really shaped his ideas as he
grew up, stating I have seen the freedom cannot be taken / from one man and given to another, / and
cannot be taken and kept, which means that the slaves can not be taken of their freedom in order to
make someone else more free (Berry 36 38). So his great grandfather was taking the freedom away
from all of those slaves but was not making himself more free because he affected the lives of his own
blood. In the next stanza it seems that Berry is upset with his great grandfather because this is
probably something he did not do, I know that freedom can only be given, / and is the gift to the giver
/ from the one who receives (Berry 39 41). Berry is saying that giving is a good thing and that the
giver is rewarded more than the receiver, but he does not believe that his great grandfather was like
this but more like the previous stanza. It seems that Berry is not supportive of his great grandfather s
actions and behaviors and that not only were the slaves affected by him, but he was as well. Berry
comes to the final realization that his past is connected by those who were owned by his great
grandfather and no matter what happens in both is life and the slaves lives they will always be
connected because of

Essay On Into Thin Air
We are only as good as our equipment or at least that is how the saying goes, but what happens when
we have the best equipment and our bodies no longer tolerate atmospheric conditions? Into Thin Air,
written by Jon Krakauer, shows how individuals vary greatly in how well they can tolerate changes in
pressure, temperature or oxygen content of the air. This allows them to be one with themselves by
bounding with survival, while simultaneously displaying how slowly environmental changes set in,
but how rapidly the effects take a toll on the body. Despite breaking down the climb into camps the
climb s structure was one that was also hard to tackle. There was the base camp, camp one, camp two,
camp three and camp four. Krakauer, notes that all of the clients going up the mountain have difficulty
adjusting to the environmental changes, and though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

surprised at the conditions and effects that the expedition has had on the men already, especially Hall.
It is in this chapter, that Krakauer notes that the climbers were having difficulties sleeping and eating,
and cuts were not healing, and everyone was beginning to lose weigh. Additionally, Krakauer
mentions that other members of the team were having severe headaches and gastrointestinal problems.
However, Hall is confident in the acclimatizing process, but is also constantly studying the data, and
schedules to be sure that they do not encounter anything that they are not prepared for. Additionally,
Krakauer mentions that there is a difference between training in a gym than by training on an actual

Essay On Truman s Controversial Decision
On August 6th, 1945, a US B 29 bomber took off from an air base, carrying a package that would
forever change the nature of war and be a subject of debate throughout the rest of the century. At
approximately 9:15am, a large, mushroom shaped cloud rose over Hiroshima, Japan. The first atomic
bomb had been used in combat. The surrender of Japan a week later marked the end of a long struggle
for freedom, democracy, and peace. At the same time, it marked a change in the nature of war.
American President Harry Truman s controversial decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan ended
the Second World War and began the nuclear age. Since the end of the war, Truman s decision has
been a subject of debate, largely due to the high civilian death toll that resulted from the bombings.
However, the context of the time period and the need to end the Second World War made the use of
the nuclear weapons a necessary action to force the surrender of Japan. Truman s decision to use the
atomic bomb against Japan was justified by the historical context of the Second World War and Japan
s refusal to surrender unconditionally. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were justified in the
historical context of the Second World War. During this time period, the world abandoned morality in

the arguments for surrender of the peace faction in the Japanese government. The destructiveness of
the atomic bombs allowed the Japanese to surrender by strengthening the Japanese peace faction,
which was finally able to overrule the Japanese military

  • 2. How Fashion Grew Into A Very Important And Valuable Idea Throughout the 15th, 16th, and 17th century, the concept of fashion grew into a very important and valuable idea. Between the years of 1450 and 1648, men s upper and lower class fashion and women s upper and lower class fashion was drastically improved by modern technology and culture. If you were any sort of noble figure, you would have always looked completely put together no matter where you were going. No matter what class you were in, you desired to look your best even though there was a vast difference in what each class wore. Lower classmen opted for clothing that was easy to move and work in, while upper classmen opted for big, costume like clothing. This was a result of new, modern technology. Upper class fashion was definitely the most voluminous, and heavy style of the three classes. For men s, women s, and children s outfits there were multiple layers, with many different colors, and a large amount of accessories. Contrasting fabrics, slashes, embroidery, applied trims, and other forms of surface ornamentation became prominent. (Romanova) For men, the outfits always started with a simple dress shirt similar to dress shirts men wear today, but without the collar. Instead of a fold over collar, there was a drawstring that was tied to form a large ruffle around the neck. Over this dress shirt you would find a doublet. A doublet is a tight jacket like vest that was meant to make the man look slimmer. It was hip or waist length. Next was the jerkin. A jerkin was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were a collection of men most of them smoking cigars and talking and laughing and drinking. Joshua sat down at a table next to a table in which two men sat. One man had baggy clothes and was smoking a pipe. He had Brunette hair, brown eyes and about 33 years old. The other gentleman had brown hair a moustache, glasses and was wearing a suit. He was approximately 54. They were both speaking German, but Joshua was wearing his Universal Translator { * refer back to page 33.} Joshua, Good Afternoon, Gentlemen. On the other end of the spectrum of physics is relativity. Now Max, essentially invented Quantum Mechanics and I explained Relativity, well to be more specific, the Special Theory of Relativity. Max, Both quantum theory and relativity are two of the most successful theories that we have ever had. The problem is that they don t play well together. That s right, two theories that are as close to reality as we have ever come to are not compatible with each other. It doesn t make any sense, does it? When you try to apply relativity to the very small scales of the atomic realm, suddenly the mathematics does not make sense any more. Quantities become infinite and predictions go wildly astray. How is this possible? If I could answer that question, I would be preparing my speech for my Nobel Prize ceremony. The thing that makes this amazing is that each theory is so close to describing reality that it is almost inconceivable that it could be incorrect! If either or, indeed, both theories are wrong, it will bring about a complete revolution in our understanding of reality. Albert, I agree with the assessment that physics requires a great deal of imagination, but this imagination is in a straitjacket. This means that you cannot imagine anything you like. What you theorize must also conform to everything we already know. In other words, any new theory must not only explain the new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gennie Dr. Matthew Anyanwu Augusta CIS 505 21 February 2016 Strayer University Carlson Shared Services (CSS) uses a centralized data processing model to meet business operational requirements. The central computing environment includes an IBM mainframe, over 50 networked servers from Hewlett Packard and Sun Microsystems. In this centralized data processing unit all the servers and the mainframe had their separate disc storage. This dispersed data storage scheme had the advantage of responsiveness; that is, the access time from the server to its data was minimal. However, the data management cost was very high. There had to be backup procedures for the storage on each server, as well as management controls to reconcile data distributed throughout the system. RapidInsight framework enable organizations to integrate real time, streaming data, to gain real time actionable insights, integrate and harmonize data from social media sites, public datasets, and industry reports with data from enterprise systems (Fulton, 2015). The RapidInsight framework gives analyst the ability to analyze data in real time to respond quickly situations in which businesses tend to encounter. A thorough look at the entire business operation, which includes, combining data from external and internal data sets, reduces time to market for implementing real time data to insight. • 5. The Influence of the US and USSR in the... During the period following World War 2.The new Zionist movement of Jews immigrating to the Middle East to establish a homeland for all Jews in what was now Israel after being displaced for many years. This led to conflict between the Arabs and the Jews about who had rights to this homeland, with both the Arab Muslims and the Jewish Israelis having biblical claims to the cities in the Middle East. This conflict was further fuelled by both the USA and the USSR as they were trying to spread their sphere of influence by supplying aid in the form of weapons, ammunition and support to gain access to valuable resources and water ways. However their involvement was not a direct factor leading to the conflict between Israel and the Arab states but rather prolonging it by supplying tools of war. To begin with the USA had strong interests in the Middle East due to its resource rich lands and strategic importance in the world and would secure these aims by aligning themselves with Israel to land a foothold in the Middle East. The USA had strong interests in the Middle East for two main reasons the first being oil. The USA has always put its sources of oil on a priority. So when the Middle East became unstable the USA s first goal was to secure its source of oil. Secondly was the strategic location of Middle East being the link between three continents and home to the Suez Canal a vital shipping route from the Mediterranean to the Red sea. The USA also wanted to solidify the capitalist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Specific Surface Corporation was then able to provide customers with filters that efficiently removed particulates from dirty hot flue gas streams hence providing customers with greater power generation efficiency. As Parrish and Jeffery brainstormed the problems on the already existing filter industry they arrived with two major issued that were going on in the industry. They were, one people no longer wanted to cool down gases at the source. The other issue was that people wanted more compact filters, they wanted them smaller. However to get smaller filters one would have to get a larger surface area. Parrish went ahead to contact companies such as ABB and Westinghouse which used a lot of filters and were facing the similar problems. Parrish offered Jeffery the opportunity to join him and they pursued the opportunity together and licensed the technology created by Emmanuel Sachs and they worked on creating the smaller filters with larger surface areas. In early 1993 Mike Cima a professor of material science at MIT introduced Parrish to the 3DP process. I felt a lot of pressure on my stomach and lower back. I couldn t walk at my normal pace, I had to walk slower. I felt like I had to slightly drag myself in order to move. I barely took 4 steps and I struggled to go any faster. I had many challenges throughout the time period of wearing it. The first challenge was walking, the longer I had it on the slower I got at walking because of all the weight on my back. Another challenge was the stairs, every time I walked up the stairs I felt like the weight was going to knock me backwards or cause me to miss a step. Sign Language is a complex system of communication; a language which uses visual gestures and signs made by one s hands blended with the use of facial expressions, body positions, and other gestures. Sign Language has played a significant role in deaf and hard of hearing culture and is the major communication alternative for those whom are deaf or hard of hearing with a beautiful history of origin. Beings who were deaf did not have a voice to communicate with, but when Sign Language was created it gave said individuals a symbolic voice. Sign language started a new culture for the deaf and brought deaf people around the world together. Sign language is seen as an authentic language therefore, there are many different variations of the language in each country such as American Sign Language (ASL), French Sign Language (LSF), Spanish Sign Language (LSE), and many others. With all those different variations of sign language there are also some that sign differently, for example, Australian sign language uses the two handed alphabet method, while American Sign Language (ASL) uses the one handed alphabet method ( Auslan ). • 10. The Importance Of Playing Basketball Basketball is my passion and it makes me happy that I decided to continue playing. However, there was a time when I was thinking about not playing again due to an awful experience I had while playing basketball my senior year of high school. I have soon come to realize that not all coaches are the same, for example, my high school basketball coach is very different to my college basketball coach, especially when it comes to their coaching styles and attitudes towards their players and coaching staff. It is easily said that playing basketball my senior year of high school was my least favorite season. The season was my least favorite, not because of my teammates, but due to the head coach. He only designed plays to showcase our point guard, who is the person that calls the plays that we run on the court. He also had the coaching style where things were either his way or you did not play. For instance, if someone, other than our point guard, were to receive a pass and was wide open for a shot, he would yell at them because they were not meant to shoot the ball in that play. However, in the other coaches and players eyes it would seem pointless for them to not take the chance and shoot the ball, especially if they are wide open. One could make the assumption that he was focused more on the guards than on the group as a whole, but my college coach is nothing like that. • 11. The Night By Elie Wiesel Elie Wiesel s Night chronicles his experience surviving in a concentration camp. He, along with every other Jew in his town, and many more throughout Europe, were sent to concentration camps for no fault of their own. Hitler, the fascist dictator of Germany and most of Europe, hated them because of their religion. He considered them a separate, inferior race and created the concentration camps to kill them all. Elie lost his mother, little sister, father, and nearly everyone he knew to these factories of death. I enjoyed reading Night because of how brutally honest Elie was, as well of the significance of this book. The actual experience of reading this, hearing about starvation, brutality, and watching everyone you love suffer, is something not even the most masochistic can enjoy. However, this book is something everyone should read. We all need to face the reality of the Holocaust, and this book forces the reader to confront it, in cold and sparse prose. There many intensely emotional scenes in the book. One that stands out to me is the brief fleeting glimpse Elie catches of his sister s face, just before she is taken to die in a gas chamber. (Wiesel, page 29) The scene in real life lasted perhaps only a second, but it is heartbreaking to read. It will be the last time he ever sees her or his mother. Elie has no idea what is happening, or that this will be the last time he sees his mother or sister ever again. Although tht enetire book is filled with scenes of horror, ... Some of these small scale, tailor made holidays are expensive, but not all a no frills option such as Windjammer might be the way to go if you need to keep costs down (quite possibly a better way to go than a cheap holiday on a big ship). If you re concerned about safeguarding your calm and sanity, you may want to choose a line which has an adults only option: P O, for example, has two adult only cruisers. On the other hand, if you are taking the kids, you ll want a ship which caters for them it could be a long trip for all concerned if they re not sufficiently entertained. P O, again, is among the companies which have vessels with spaces and activities devoted to little people who are full of beans. But most of the large ships will cater for children with clubs and activities which will allow you and them to relax and have fun. These include Carnival, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and of course, Disney. Services and facilities Although often luxurious, ocean liners had characteristics that made them unsuitable for cruising, such as high fuel consumption, deep draught that prevented them from entering shallow ports, enclosed weatherproof decks that were not appropriate for tropical weather, and cabins designed to maximize passenger numbers rather than comfort (few if any private verandas, a high proportion of windowless ... • 13. Lab Report On Gram-Negative Bacteria In the world of microbiology it is vitally important to be able to discern the identities of microorganisms. Not only is it important in a lab setting but as well as in healthcare in general. Properly identify what strain of bacteria a person has will aid in the proper medicine and dose given. Throughout the semester we have learned about different types of bacteria and certain test that can clearly identify them. The purpose of this lab report is to identify a Gram positive or Gram negative bacterium. Using all the knowledge of procedures and lab techniques identify the unknown and discuss all the tests you performed. Introduction Gram staining is a technique used to determine if the bacteria is Gram positive or Gram negative. Gram staining procedure uses crystal violet stain, iodine moderator, alcohol decolorizer and safarin counter stain. In Gram negative bacteria the primary stain will be washed out with the decolorizer and it will be stained with the counterstain. Whereas in Gram positive bacteria the primary stain will not leave the cell wall. This difference comes from difference in the structure of the cell wall that retains the stain. The Gram positive cell wall is composed of peptidoglycans, a thick layer of protein sugar complexes taking up 60 90% of their cell wall. Peptidoglycan is composed of two glucose derivatives, N acetylmuramic acid and N acetylglucosamine alternated and cross linked by tetrapeptides that is composed of L alanine, D glutamine, L lysine ... • 14. Urban Real Estate Economics And Juxtaposes Them With... THEORETICAL BACKGROUND This paper discusses and analyses modern theories of urban real estate economics and juxtaposes them with traditional theories. In earlier times, city life used to revolve around a central business district (CBD) which was the nerve centre of all economic, social and cultural activity. As a result, real estate prices reflected the proximity of the site to the CBD and they dropped the further one went from it. The dichotomy is often expressed through architecture, with high rise apartment buildings in the city and low rise developments further out. Alonso, 1964; Mills, 1972 and Muth, 1969 mulled on this model of cities and viewed real estate economic data and ran studies through the lens of a monocentric urban ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is based on the law of diminishing returns that over time, produce from a certain land parcel will decline in quantity and quality, yielding lower and lower profits, while at the same time, pressure on the land in the form of population will always rise. As it is the amount paid by the lessee for the indestructible powers of the land, different parcels with different fertility capacities will command different rents. As the amount of land is finite, the cost of production will also keep rising. Applying this theory to urban real estate, a monocentric city would have finite space for development due to which costs of construction will rise, passing on the burden to the buyer. Von Thunen, on the other hand, concerned himself with location and transportation costs in addition to fertility as factors determining price. He attributed differential rents to distances between places with desirable qualities and the costs of transporting oneself between them. At its most basic, the theory stands for the hypothesis that without the need for proximity and the price (rent) charged for it, land would be an almost free good. PhD in Nanostructures for Enhanced Solar Conversion Research Proposal Abstract The possibilities of employing a nanoscale metal topography that will employ surface plasmon excitation phenomena towards improving the light absorption efficiency of organic solar cells will be investigated. This goal is achievable by analytically designing and producing optically active nanostructures which are used to excite surface plasmons at the wavelengths range dictated by the sun in order to support the confinement of light beyond the diffraction limit, thus leading to high weighted enhancements over a wider range of the solar spectrum. This can be achieved by employing nanostructured materials with unique properties tailored for the materials characteristics of II VI nanorod systems across the solar spectrum capable of creating significant enhancements while preventing unwanted thermal losses. Also external quantum efficiency measurements on the nanostructured cells will be made, this is expected to demonstrate a substantial photon absorption enhancement across the solar spectrum. Finally, key insights into light absorption and trapping mechanisms in these plasmon enhanced cells through a combination of three dimensional finite difference time domain simulations, optical absorption, and external quantum efficiency measurements will be obtained Introduction The increasing population of the world is making demands on the availability of energy supply and research has ... This particular story, from The Canterbury Tales, is a revealing tale being told by a medieval pardoner to his companions on a journey to Canterbury. Though the Pardoner s profession is to pardon and absolve the sins of people, he actually lives in constant violation of sins such as gluttony, gambling, and, most importantly, avarice. On the other hand, the Pardoner s profession is to absolve sinners and steer them towards life; he guides people to spiritual and even physical life! There are already more effective systems in place that are specifically geared towards adolescents, and being imprisoned with adults would also be detrimental to the impressionable mind of a youth. While it is important for anyone who commits a crime to be held accountable, the level to which the person may take responsibility will vary heavily, depending on age. These factors increase the likelihood of criminal behavior due to exposure during childhood or as a means to survive. For both high risk male and female juveniles, the risk of adult incarceration in any given year was reduced when they were in a serious relationship and/or regularly employed in the previous year (Joosen et al., 2015). • 37. In Memory Of Wb Auden Analysis Representations of perspectives, notions, and circumstances embody political principles and their repercussions, often emphasising the disconnect between societies and their leaders. This idea is particularly evident in WH Auden s poems, In Memory of WB Yeats (1939) and September 1 1939 (1939) which portrays a Modernist s opinions on political events and personalities while acting as vehicles for expounding political opinions. Similarly, Malala Yousafzai s Speech to the United Nations (2013) explores the importance of free speech when subjugated, to regain freedom. Hence, both texts offer a socio political insight into the necessity of an unconstrained voice in breaking through unjust institutions that suppress and erode our free will. In In Memory of WB Yeats, Auden parallels historical and political events and personalities, using the legacy of WB Yeats to represent the necessity of powerful literature in influencing political perspectives. He presents the poem in the form of an elegy to show his admiration of Yeats influence despite his death as explicated in words of a dead man are modified in the guts of the living . The juxtaposition of dead and living pronounces the power of poetry and its timelessness. The plant on the windowsill guides me back home. Three and a half months ago, my long journey from Cinderwoods to Twisted City came to an end as I crossed over the city limits. Unfortunate for me, it took another three weeks before I could move in with Alice. Despite my fate, knowing I would spend an extra three weeks on the streets, I remained optimistic and planned for my reunion with Alice. Being raised by benevolent parents, I felt it necessary to bring a thank you gift along with me. However, what could a homeless girl like myself buy? As Barrow (2011) contends, one of the factors that has promoted the success of Acer Inc. is the proper financial systems and budget employed in the management of its finances. • 41. Gender Impact On Class And Gender Effect of Class and Gender Do class and gender affect how individuals act or behave? Society has evolved throughout the years and with that evolution, the people have separated themselves by factors such as class and gender. This separation started many centuries ago and made a large appearance in the Great Depression and Civil Rights Movement. Along with this division of people, actions and behaviors seem to have been paired with certain classifications of people. In prior eras, women were seen as fragile and not earners due to needing to stay at home and take care of children. On the contrary, men were seen as masculine and earned a decent amount of money from working all day long. Even though genders evolved into how they are now with women working alongside men, the separation is still visible. Women are still fighting to get paid the same amount as men, resulting in a certain behavior based on the gender. This behavior is one where women try to get equal pay through comparable worth instead of just staying quiet like women used to. The factors of class and gender cause a difference in an individual s actions and behavior in the ways of not socializing with certain types of people, creating stereotypes, and behaving in a way to fit the norms of the specific class or gender. There are many different articles written that can help describe how socialization, generalized ideas, and standards cause individuals in different genders and classes to act in a certain way. A few of the most important are Post Princess Models of Gender: The New Man in Disney/Pixar by Gillam and Wooden, Seeing and Making Culture: Representing the Poor by hooks, and Girls Bodies, Girls Selves: Body Image, Identity, and Sexuality by Lipkin. All of these articles have aspects that point towards the fact that different reason cause individuals to perform their everyday activities in a certain way. Gillam and Wooden explain in their article that new films produced by Disney and Pixar have changed the idea of masculinity from one of the past to one that accepts the more traditional femininity. Hooks article portrays how she personally was told she was unable to go to college because of her poverty level and when she did go to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. How to Classify Toxicants In essence, toxicology is the science of poison, toxicants, or toxins. A poison toxicant, or toxic is a substance capable of causing harm when administered to an organism. Harm is defined as seriously injuring or causing the death of an organism. The term toxicant can be a synonym for poison, or the term poison might be appropriate for the most potent substances. The term toxin usually refers to a poison derived from a protein or conjugated protein produced by some higher plant, animal, or pathogenic bacteria that is highly poisonous for other living organism. Food toxicology deals with substances found in food that might be harmful to those who consume sufficient quantities of the food containing such substances. Toxicants can be classified according to five categories. First category is based on their chemical structure, for example, aromatic amines (aniline), halogenated hydrocarbons (PCBs, and methylene chloride). Second category is based on their usage such as pesticides (atrazine), solvents (benzene) and food additives (saccharin). Other category is according to their physical state like gases (carbon monoxide), liquids (methanol) and solids (asbestos). Besides that toxicants also classified based on their toxic effect like mutagens (diethylnitrosamine), and hepatotoxins (chloroform). Lastly, toxicants are classified based on their biochemical mechanism of a toxic effect such as cholinesterase inhibitors (malathion) and methemoglobin forming substances (nitrite). Food ... • 46. Theme Of Bravery In IM Not Scared The film Life is Beautiful directed by Roberto Benigni and Niccolò Ammaniti s film I m not Scared explore the theme of bravery of their protagonists in their comparatively dissimilar settings. The 1997 Italian film Life is Beautiful follows the life of a charming man who uses his humor to win over the woman of his dreams and bravely save his family from the tragedy in Italy during the Second World War. Also set in the late 1970s in rural southern Italy, the film I m not Scared encompasses imprisonment and the developing friendship of Michele and Filippo who is kidnapped for ransom. Filippo is chained up and hungry when Michelle discovers him in a pit near an abandoned house and he helps the boy out. Bravery is prominently explored in both texts through dialogue, colour, and setting. Benigni and Ammaniti present bravery through the dialogue presented by the protagonists Guido and Michele. The dialogue that Guido speaks reveals plenty about his personality and nature and gives the audience a firm understanding of his character. The beginning of the film presents a lot of humor and the audience is introduced to a fairytale like story. Guido constantly uses his wit and comedic nature to impress his lover Dora, and often on their encounters he enthusiastically exclaims Buongiorno Princess! By referring to Dora as a princess illustrates that Guido believes she is perfect and seeing as he repeatedly says this phrase also conveys his ability to appear when least expected. Despite the transition in the film to a completely different setting and situation, dialogue plays a key role in communicating to the audience Guido s ability to lift the hopes and provide ongoing love and sacrifice for those around him. When Guido and son Joshua are separated from Dora at the concentration camp they shout Buongiorno Princess! into the microphone. A reaction shot is then used to show Dora s familiarity with these words and her understanding that her husband and son are alive. The use of this common greeting is effective in this film because it conveys that despite the sudden change of lifestyle for Guido and his family, Guido s personality ensures his humor and devotion are expressed until the very end of the film which shows ... Why is this ideal not more recognized? The usage of these animals in scientific and cosmetic experiments has been traced as early as 500 BC, and it s still unsettling. Using animals like this is inhumane and has the potential to harm the animals. Also, experimentation on these animals doesn t necessarily benefit people and can be unsafe to them. As to the inhumanity and unsafety of these experiments for animals, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported that throughout the year of 2010, 97,123 animals sustained injuries during the experiment and were given no form of pain reliever. These animals are exposed to force feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, the infliction of burns and other wounds to study the healing process... • 48. The Evolution Of Species Extinction Globally, most of the species (both flora and fauna) are under serious threat from direct and indirect human activities; while the direct activities such as deforestation leads to species habitat fragmentation and loss, on the other hand modifies climatic conditions coupled with gas emissions. The synergistic impact of these human driven activities questions the survivability of organisms in the morphed climatic environments. At one level fragmented habitats increase intra and inter species competitions, resulting in decline of population of species, grouping them under rare and threatened category. At other level, the amplified global temperatures in parallel with low precipitation rates, not only creates unsuitable external habitat conditions but also impose internal changes in biological clock and physiological processes of the organisms, in additions to their life history traits (Reynold et al. 2003, Price and Gittleman, 2007). This kind of changed scenario both externally and internally, brings incompatibility in the organism to cope with fluctuating climatic conditions, finally making the species as vulnerable and forcing into the process of extinction. The process of species extinction accelerated with rapid human activities and in the current scenario, many species are in the queue of extinction. Essay On Truman s Controversial Decision On August 6th, 1945, a US B 29 bomber took off from an air base, carrying a package that would forever change the nature of war and be a subject of debate throughout the rest of the century. At approximately 9:15am, a large, mushroom shaped cloud rose over Hiroshima, Japan. The first atomic bomb had been used in combat. The surrender of Japan a week later marked the end of a long struggle for freedom, democracy, and peace. At the same time, it marked a change in the nature of war. American President Harry Truman s controversial decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan ended the Second World War and began the nuclear age. Since the end of the war, Truman s decision has been a subject of debate, largely due to the high civilian death toll that resulted from the bombings. However, the context of the time period and the need to end the Second World War made the use of the nuclear weapons a necessary action to force the surrender of Japan.
