Macro Level Analysis
Sociologists use two levels of analysis: macro and micro. Macro level analysis observes large scale
configurations of society such as, social change and stability. Micro level analysis observes small
scale configurations of society such as, communication or group motivation. Symbolic interactionism,
functional analysis, and conflict theory each fall under either a macro or micro level analysis category.
Symbolic interactionism focuses on micro level analysis because, it focuses on face to face
interactions; how society establishes social life through the use of symbols. Functional analysis and
conflict theory both fall under the macro level analysis category. Functional analysis uses macro level
analysis because, it focuses on the innner parts of society and how these parts work together and
function as a whole unit. Conflict theory also uses macro level analysis because, it ... Show more

Symbolic interactionists would focus on the micro level, they would analyze what people do and what
technology does for people on a day to day basis. They would also analyze the way people use
technology to communicate and how social media has dominated real social life. In contrast,
functionalists and conflict theorists would focus more on the macro level, how changes in the lives of
Americans has caused a rise in the obesity rate. Functionalists might stress that today the upsurge in
technology has taken over a lot of jobs which, in turn, causes a decrease in income forcing people to
buy cheap fast food to save their money, especially those who have several mouths to feed.
Functionalist might also analyze the change in lifestyles, that technology has increased laziness in
America, how you can turn the lights on, lock the door, turn the TV on, order food and necessities that
come to your doorstep, feed your pets, talk to friends and family, and we can do all of that and many
more with just the push of a button. Conflict theorists would stress the war between food

The nurse educators of each unit will also have valuable input and would be responsible for
implementing, supporting, and enforcing the use of the checklist. Selected nurses from each unit,

perspectives on what would be necessary and reasonable to be included in the checklist. Support from
these representatives of each position will further assist in successful implementation of the project.

How Does Ronald Wright Define Civic Participation In A...
Civic involvement and citizenship are common terms used interchangeably in order to describe
individual responsibility in society. However, upon further evaluation, both words address different
aspects of society itself. Citizenship can be understood as certain obligations, liberties, and privileges
embodied by an individual; and civic involvement is the activities associated with those
responsibilities. The following definition summarizes the broader scope of citizenship and civic
involvement assumed in A Short History of Progress by Ronald Wright. In this book, Wright describes
the progress of citizenship, and the perception that mankind gradually improves over time. Wright
refutes this idea describing it as a progress trap . Progress traps are created by the overuse of natural
resources, too much faith in religion, and natural short comings. Past societies, such as the Roman
Empire and the Aztecs, structured their culture around progress and economic growth, ... Show more

Citizen participation in community affairs serves as a check to politicians since it reduces the
likelihood of leaders making self serving decisions. For example, in 3,000 B.C. half of the land that
was irrigated in the Fertile Crescent became saline due to the overuse of the land. This uninhabitable
ecosystem is now forced onto present day communities because the leaders of that time made rash and
unplanned decisions. Such cultural patterns are very dangerous since it leaves no room for population
growth, innovations, and natural fluctuations. Therefore, community members must understand the
impact of their actions and strategically be involved with certain aspects of society that will improve
mankind as a

4 September 2017 Grace Hopper
My report is on Grace Brewster Murray Hopper who was a proud American computer scientist and
United States Navy rear admiral. She was born in The Big Apple, New York City, on December 9,
1906, and tragically died in Arlington, Virginia on January 1, 1992. Mrs. Grace Hopper was an
amazingly accomplished woman who had lived a full life. In fact, she was close to being the first
programmer of the Harvard Mark I computer. Like the hard worker she is, Grace worked for years and
invented one of the first compiler related tools. The idea of machine independent programming
languages was merely another concept until Grace resurfaced the notion, making it much more

Essay on Farmer Dilemma
1. Railroads Railroads in each area were often controlled by one company, enabling those railroads to
charge what they wanted. Railroads were the only way for many western farmers to get their produce
to market and high prices were always charged. Railroads controlled storage, elevators, and
warehouses so the prices the farmers paid were very high.
Middlemen Middlemen set the price of the produce low when they sold because the market price was
unpredictable.
Bankers High interest rates caused the farmers to pay even more when they didn t have the money to
pay.
Trusts Trusts such as McCormick, makers of farm machinery, set the price for the farm machinery.
Many farmers relied on McCormick farm machinery to grow crops, so the ... Show more content on

Indeed, Document A states that farmers overproduced which caused prices to fall, but it is very
evident and far more explanation is given for reasons such as railroads, banks, and the lack of
government help.
4. Because farmers could only afford one machine most times, most farmers specialized in what crop
the machine worked best with.
5. The value of money appreciated 300% so that the value of the farmers goods decreased to ½ of
what it used to be. 6. This could be both beneficial or harmful with the deflation. They might not have
enough money to pay for things. On the other hand, the interest/mortgage rates were the same.
7. Farmers might suggest that a remedy for deflation is to have more government involvement such as
paying farmers a certain amount to NOT grow crops to ensure a profit (or some earnings) for that year.
Because prices fall in a deflated economy, and the price for crops is already set low, farmers could not
plant as much crop either. Additionally, they could petition for the government to set the price in
proportion to their income.
8. There would have been strong forces to depreciate the currency in the late nineteenth century
because
9. A college such as The University of Illinois could provide farmers with the knowledge of new
technology that could give them better crops for possibly less cost and a way to limit production.
Additionally, it could teach farmers how to respond to new market

Compare And Contrast Esther And Daniel
Joseph, Mordecai, Esther, and Daniel all had the courage to remain faithful to God even though they
were threatened and punished. Mordecai and Daniel reminded me of Joseph because all three of them
had dreams which could be interpreted as to what will happen in their future. Joseph as well as Esther,
Mordecai, and Daniel all rose to a position of power in a foreign government. Joseph was his father
Jacob s favorite son, just as Ahasuerus loved Esther more than all of the other women who wanted to
be Queen. Daniel also was the favorite of King Baltassar. He meant more to King Baltassar than of the
friends of the King. Jacob s father gave him a gift and authority over his brothers. This caused Joseph

Unfortunately, Jonesborough lacks any form of regular, scheduled public transportation.
After speaking with employees of The Jonesborough Chamber of Commerce, they said at one time the
Johnson City Transit would make several runs per day to the Jonesborough Chamber of Commerce
parking lot. This allowed residents of Jonesborough a ride to the transit hub in Johnson City for their
needs. There they could ride other buses to their destinations, and ride the bus back to the Chamber
when their errands were done.
Although they were not sure of the date, Johnson City had discontinued the transit service to

Fashion In The 1800 s
Fashion in the late 1800 s was a form of constraint for women, prohibiting them from living freely and
restricting them to simple activities. Looking closely at period fashion offers better understanding of
an author s characters. The silly and frivolous characters in Pride and Prejudice, such as Lydia and
Mrs. Bennet, are concerned with finery, while the sensible and realistic Lizzy could care less. During
Jane Austen s time, women were judged on their natural beauty and their ability to enhance it with
clothing. Even in the nineteenth century, there was specific fashion trends that women followed.
Kirstin Olsen explains that women wore decorative petticoats with ornamental bands as
undergarments (164). Sarah Downing mentions that old dresses were even recycled as petticoats (18).
Daniel Pool notes a frock dress was worn over the petticoat that cinched high under the breasts,
creating the illusion of a higher waistline (213). Because frocks ... Show more content on

Mr. Darcy. Lydia is always waisting her father s money and even buys a bonnet that she does not like:
I do not think it is very pretty; but I thought I might as well buy it as not (211). Sarah Downing
concludes that only foolish characters chatter about clothing: characterized by their dress but rarely do
they speak of it; unless they are one of Austen s silver characters, they maintain the good taste and
decorum of the times, which helps that it was poor manners to impose conversation about such

Destructive Cycles
Destructive cycles are often hard to deal with and difficult for all involved in the conflict. The book
states that it is often difficult to determine when conflict interaction has turned in a destructive
direction (Folger et al. 2013, p. 21). I completely agree with what the authors are stating here. In
addition to that statement, one on down the page caught my attention immediately in relation to the
specific conflict I am going to discuss and the organization that it involves. Conflicts can also be
difficult to understand due to conscious efforts by some parties to keep the conflict hidden out of the
more public forums in a group or organization (Folger et al. 2013, p. 21). Conflicts and destructive

It s no surprise that the human race has been fighting amongst itself and running into problems and
issues since the dawn of time. Whether it be as extreme as a war or as simple as a fight with a sibling
or a friend, every human has faced conflict. However, many people choose to respond to their
problems through violence and firepower to bully the other opposing side into submission. While this,
at times, is an extremely effective method, sometimes, it isn t the best choice. A much easier way to
respond, with less bloodshed and anguish added, is simply thinking of a way through the conflict and
evaluating what can be done about it instead of immediately responding aggressively. If more people

Japanese Comfort Women
It is estimated that between one and two hundred thousand female sex slaves were forced to deliver
sexual services to Japanese soldiers, both before and during World War II. These women were known
as comfort women and the Imperial Conference, which was composed of the emperor, representatives
from the armed forces and the main Cabinet ministers, approved their use by Japanese soldiers.

The term comfort women refers to the victims of a premeditated systematic plan originated and

After the war, many of the comfort women were too sick to be moved and were taken under the care

Even after the war ended, the comfort women were not free. Their guilty minds and inferiority

Marx Vs Freud
Marx and Freud are two thinkers of roughly the same time period, mostly the 19th century, into the
20th for Freud. Comparing and contrasting their theories provides for a deeper understanding of both
of their philosophies. Marx s theory of human nature stresses the idea that people are inherently social.
He saw that most of an individual s behavior is dependent on the actions of others, and noted that even
the most mundane aspects of human existence are socially learned. Additionally, he believed that a
person s society determines their behavior, noting differences among cultures and the fact that there is

Summary Of The Poem Mirror By Sylvia Plath
The poem Mirror, by Sylvia Plath, was written in 1961. The poem takes place during a time when
women s reflections were changing quickly, and women s movement was becoming more important.
According to Kristine Tucker in The Overall Meaning of the Poem Mirror, she states, The Mirror was
written by Sylvia Plath in 1961 but wasn t published until 1971, eight years after her death by suicide.
Therefore, presuming the lady in the mirror is Plath, readers assume she wrote the poem referring to
her personal life and her struggle with depression due to her appearance.
Sylvia Plath s poem Mirror is about a woman who gets older as the mirror watches her. At first, the
mirror is silver and exact (1). The mirror does not judge; however, it swallows what it sees and reflects
that image back (2). The mirror is also not cruel, only truthful (4), and considers itself a four cornered
eye of a god (5). Therefore, the mirror sees everything for what it is, and does not lie. The mirror looks
across the empty room most of the time (6) and meditates on the pink speckled wall across from it (7).
The mirror is attached to the wall, and has looked at that wall for so long, that the wall is thought to be
part of my heart (8). The darkness in the room and the people who consider the mirror are the faces
and darkness that separate the woman and the mirror (9). In the next stanza, the mirror is now
portraying itself as a lake (10). A woman is looking into the lake (10), and she is

FDG is a non physiological analogue of glucose that once injected, is taken up by cell membrane
glucose receptors (Mainly, the glucose transporter 1 molecule, GLUT 1) which transport it into the
intracellular compartment, where it is phosphorylated into FDG 6 phosphate by the enzymatic action
of hexokinase. Cancer cells show increased uptake of glucose (due to an overexpression of glucose

Essay Afghanistan and Politics
Afghanistan and Politics
An Examination of Nation Building in Afghanistan and East Timor Afghanistan is a shattered society.
The participants in the Bonn Conference have set for the leaders and people of their country the
formidable challenge of consolidating the peace process in less than three years. But it will take much
more than 36 months to heal the wounds left by 23 years of war. The process of healing has started,
however, and the members of the international community must be careful not to allow that process to
reverse itself. This requires from all, a continued commitment and determination to stay the course. It
also requires that realistic and achievable objectives be set.

But as Kofi Annan reported on March 18, 2002, it will take more than a quick fix to repair the years of
trauma and war that have wrecked this extremely poor country.
In recent years, the UN has been entrusted with providing assistance to several countries in post
conflict situation, including the newly independent East Timor, now renamed Timor Leste. The
experiences of the United Nations in East Timor have shown that the reestablishment, at a minimum,
of basic judicial functions must be among a mission s top priorities from the earliest stages of
deployment. Looking into the role of the UN intervention in East Timor, it is possible to apply the
lessons learned in the violence wrought country on the current situation at Afghanistan to create a
sustainable environment for constructive nation building.
Relief Efforts: The United Nations in Afghanistan
Many United Nations agencies are working together to help rebuild war torn Afghanistan. Among
them are the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations Children s Fund,

#1 eBay Selling
The first way to make more money online is to sell items on the site eBay. eBay is an online auction
and shopping website that allows you to sell your own household items online for a profit or buy a
product from the site and then resell it for a greater profit. It is probably the biggest and most popular
of this type of websites throughout the entire Internet. A good aspect of this money making plan is that
it is easy to sell products on the site.
There are some cons associated with this way of earning though. Such as the fees correlated with the
selling a product, there is more than one. Another issue is that it is not easy and a lot of work for
sometimes less than satisfactory outcome. Along with all this it can be quite difficult to determine the
right niche for your products in order to beat the heavy competition involved with whatever it might
be. All that said, there is money to be made.

Although party identification is often thought to be a function of affective attachment to a party, it is
also a function of social identification with the party. Moreover, it is likely that affective attachment to
a party acts as a source or a byproduct for social identification, or some combination of the two.
Shared social identity provides pre dictability with a low cost for information cues (Greene, 1999). As
suggested by Greene, intergroup relationships take precedence over intellectual concerns in the
formation of politi cal attitudes and party affiliation. Thus, political identities are more likely to
produce parti san polarization, rather than specific ideologies or policies.
Social identity theory allows us to examine the motivational and cognitive basis for the consistent
bipolar perceptual and attitudinal patterns in politics (Greene, 2000). In sup port of social identity
theory, Greene found that people tended to think and feel more favor ably about the party they
identified with and more negatively about the opposing party. Hence, social identification with a party
significantly predicts cognitive and affective atti tudes toward political parties. Furthermore, social
identity significantly predicts party sup port and involvement over

Short Story On Solar Eclipse
If there s one thing I know right now, it s that I m not nervous. Then again, I never really get nervous.
I m always thinking about way too much at once. Tests don t get me nervous, roller coasters don t, not
even that at this very moment my younger brother and I are on our way to a kidnapper s house by free
will. Sounds pretty crazy, right? Well, you should also know that I have superpowers. Everything
comes back to that moment of time when day turned to night at 1:25 pm. You know, the solar eclipse.
I, being an extreme lover of traveling and all things bizarre, begged my parents to take my brother and
me down to the point of greatest eclipse. To my greatest delight, they agreed, my parents being the
total education endorsers they were. In the coming weeks we ordered our glasses and read up on all
the information we could find. When the day came, we went down to Kentucky and were met with
masses and masses of people. Everyone was so anxious to see the eclipse they seemed frantic and
hysterical. I can clearly remember the exact expression on the man s face next to us when he realized
that he had bought the wrong glasses for him and his family. Maybe we should have paid more
attention to him and his possibly sneaky hands, but we didn t. The time came for us to slip on our
glasses and in majestic beauty, the moon gracefully floated over the image of bright white light. I stare

This device gives them ability to do something no other device could offer. It allows someone to be
part of two worlds, deaf and hearing. So many people think its wrong and that your changing your
child, that you should except them for who he/she is. I don t see it that way, if you have a child wouldn

you had? By giving my child the cochlear implant I am doing that for them, giving them the best of
the best of technology that will benefit them so much and give them such a great life. Since have it

teach my older family how to live today than they taught me how to live. They taught me the basics

as explained in Nancy Gibbs article Generation Next. I hugely agree that the generation gap is at an all
time high between my generation, the millennials, and that of my parents and grandparents. Young
Americans are forced to be more educated, they feel technology bridges a gap, and while still being
conventional the way they are conventional makes the gap even larger. Gibbs states Young Americans
are now more educated... and [yet] less likely to have a job than previous generations. I agree that
Millennials are certainly more educated then previous generations but as a result not having the right
education makes it difficult to find a job. My uncle, who is currently 82, was able to quite school in

The Chinese New Year Essay
Chinese New Year is the most widely celebrated tradition in Asia. The tradition is usually celebrated
on the first day of the first month on the Chinese Lunar calendar. This tradition is rooted in centuries
old customs and is one of the most popular public holidays in China. Apart from China, this tradition
is also celebrated in many Asian countries like Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, and
Japan. There are many values and rituals tied with this tradition. For example, people would wear red
clothing, decorate the house with red paper, and give children lucky money in red envelopes.

According a popular myth, the origin of this day lies in the fight against Nian, a beast in Chinese
mythology. The beast would visit cities and eat cattle, crops, and even people. In order for families to
protect themselves from the beast, they would place food at their doorsteps so that the beast would not
harm them. One day during a family dinner, the family noticed how the beast was startled by seeing
the color red. Word of this spread to other friends and family. Soon, from then on, on the first day of
every New Year, people would hang red paper lanterns and other red objects to scare off the beast.
They would also light bamboo stalks in order to scare the beast away. After some time, the beast stop

throughout the years. It was because of time that people started incorporating ideas that were added on

Importance Of Water Purification
Water purification is the removal of contaminants from raw water to produce drinking water that is
pure enough for human consumption or for industrial use.
Substances that are removed during the process include parasites (such as Giardia or
Cryptosporidium) , bacteria, algae, viruses, fungi, minerals (including toxic metals such as Lead,
Copper etc.), and man made chemical pollutants.
Many contaminants can be dangerous but depending on the quality standards, others are removed to
improve the water s smell, taste, and appearance.
A small amount of disinfectant is usually intentionally left in the water at the end of the treatment
process to reduce the risk of re contamination in the distribution system.
Many environmental and cost considerations affect the location and design of water purification
plants.
Groundwater is cheaper to treat, but aquifers usually have limited output and can take thousands of
years to recharge.
Surface water sources should be carefully monitored for the presence of unusual types or levels of
microbial/disease causing contaminants.
The treatment plant itself must be kept secure from vandalism and terrorism.
It is not possible to tell whether water is safe to drink just by looking at it.
Simple procedures such as boiling or the use of a household charcoal filter are not sufficient for
treating water from an unknown source.
Even natural spring water considered safe for all practical purposes in the 1800s must now be tested
before determining what

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Trinitrotoluene
TNT is more accurately known as Trinitrotoluene (more specifically 2,4,6 trinitrotoluene), a Class A
explosive. Its molecular formula is C7H5N3O6 OR C6H2(CH3)(NO2)3 OR C6H2(NO2)3CH3. This
compound includes the elements Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, and Oxygen, notably 37.0% Carbon,
2.2% Hydrogen, 18.5% Nitrogen, and 42.3% Oxygen. It is an explosive chemical (a combustible
solid) with toxic and hazardous effects. Commonly experienced symptoms due to exposure mainly
include headaches, weakness, anemia, liver injury, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dermatitis, cyanosis,
toxic hepatitis, etc. It s an incredibly hazardous explosive, considering it is absorbed by the skin, its
vapors are toxic, toxic fumes are released when decomposed due to high temperatures, and it
detonates under excessive shock or heat. Physically, TNT is a colorless or pale yellow and odorless
solid or crushed flake, and it is synthetic (does not occur naturally on Earth). It has a molecular weight
of 227.132 g/mol, hydrogen donor count of 0, hydrogen acceptor count of 6, relatable bond count of 0,
complexity of 292, topological polar surface of 138 A^2, mass of 227.018 g/mol, heavy atom count of
16, covalently bonded unit count of 1, and formal charge of 0. Its structural shape changes. Its boiling
point (point at which it explodes) is 464º F (240 deg C) at 760 mmHg. It is also insoluble, but has a
few exceptions. At 18 deg C, it is soluble in the following solvents: chloroform, ether, and carbon
tetrachloride.

Youth Incarceration Research Paper
The Incarceration of Juveniles It is estimated that on any given day there are 80,000 youth
incarcerated in the United States, which is more than any other developed country in the
world(Townes, 1). Incarcerating youth before exploring other options is a social injustice. Judges
rather give short term solutions than permanently fix the problem. To understand why this is a social
injustice, four pieces of information must be known: the causes, who it affects and how, who s
responsible, and solutions in place. Incarcerating youth affects them in many different ways. One way
is the psychiatric damage prisons cause. Being in prison means that the child is not able to be with
their family and community, which can lead to feelings of loneliness and depression. Studies show
that incarcerated youth die from suicide at a rate two to three times more than non incarcerated youths
(Polish,1). In addition to mental health effects, incarceration at a young age affects the person s future
by lowering their chances of finding a job. When sentenced to a correctional facility, the child s
education is stopped and they become 38 times more likely to become a repeat offender(Koehler,1).

The Discovery Of The Fossil Species Essay
Is there a subspecies of Homo sapiens that lived complete opposite lives as us? Did we cause them to
go extinct or did we live and interbreed with them? I will be discussing aspects of the species Homo
neanderthalensis who lived alongside Homo sapiens and may have even interbred with them. I will be
focusing specifically on the discovery of the fossil species, where the species is in the human ancestral
tree, anatomical similarities and differences with Homo sapiens, and the lifestyle and extinction of the
Neanderthals.
The first fossil found, named Neanderthal 1, was found in 1856 in Germany. The name Homo
neanderthalensis was suggested by Geologist William King, because the fossil was found in the
Feldhofer Cave of the Neander Valley in Germany and tal (a modern version of thal) means valley in
German. (Smithsonian) Some people refer to the species as Neandertal, with no h, to reflect modern
German spelling. Several years after Neanderthal 1 was found, scientists realized that earlier
discoveries in Engis, Belgium (1829) and Forbes Quarry, Gibraltar (1848) were also Neanderthals,
putting the actual discovery date at 1829. Other key specimens are Le Moustier, France (of a 45,000
year old skull which had Neanderthal features in an adolescent individual proving these characteristics
were genetic and not developed during their life), Lagar Velho in Abrigo do Lagar Velho, central
western Portugal (a 24,000 year old skeleton described as a Neanderthal Homo sapien hybrid),

All of the cash flows are discounted back to the year of 2002 in the calculation of NPV value. With the
annual cost savings of $80 from 2003 to 2007 and the integration cost of total $130, Timken s new
NPV is calculated to be $970.42. There is the possibility that Timken can lose its BBB investment
grade rating. This is due to Timken taking on the $800 million in debt it needs to purchase Torrington.
The change in the company s debt composition will change ratios such as debt to capital which is used
to determine the investment grade rating. Compared to other industrial firms, Timken shows relatively
high sales numbers ($279.4 million) as well EBITDA figures ($275.7 million). According to table 3
(p. 4), only three ratios will change as taking on the $800 million in debt. The first one is EBIT
Interest Coverage Ratio, which drops from 2.63 to 0.90 and investment rating scale falls from BBB to
B. The second ratio is EBITDA Interest Coverage Ratio, which drops from 4.3 to 3.14 and investment
rating scale falls from BBB to B. The third one is Total Debt/Capital Ratio, which increases from 43
percent to 67 percent and drives the rating from BB to B. In conclusion, the $800 million debt has a
negative impact on Timken, since it lowers company s investment rating scale. If Timken decides to

Theme Of Women In Othello And The Duchess Of Malfi
In the Elizabethan era what were the requirements for women and what made them ideal wives? I
want to focus on the two main wives in Othello and The Duchess of Malfi both characters are being
judged for being impure and unmoral. Desdemona and the Duchess diverge from each other because
they have very different attitudes toward the men in the plays. The men in their lives try to impose
upon them which finally drive them to their deaths. Society and men expected women to be
submissive and chaste characters but the Duchess really proves them wrong making a statement on
how wives shouldn t be alabaster statues kneeling at their husband s tombs. Portraying Desdemona as
more of the traditional Elizabethan wife which obeys and the Duchess being more of the strong and
free feminine symbol. Women in this plays are seen as mere objects or property of men and expected
to be chaste, obedient and silent spectators of what men would do through the play. So when this
female characters step out of this labels and fight against the power that marginalize them as subjects
they usually end up forced into marriage, muted and dead. In this period braking these social barriers
by self making and voicing your opinion as a women was resisted in society, this could only be done
by the queen. Desdemona was bold enough to go against social norms and challenged her family and
married a Moor, Othello. But she is still seen a good wife because she follows Othello to Cyprus

The Vision Of Empire Held By Wilberforce And The Clapham Sect
Analyse the vision of Empire held by Wilberforce and the Clapham Sect.
During Wilberforce s lifetime the British Empire expanded and proceed to be the dominant force in
the world as an economic, military and political power. At its height it was the largest empire in
history and for over a century was the world s foremost power. A power such as this had a
considerable bearing on the people which habituated and worked to serve the power behind it as both
MPs and people of significant social standing amongst its population as the elite. Therefore this essay
will evaluate the vision of the Empire held Wilberforce and his contemporaries in the Clapham Sect.
The Clapham Sect was a group of Evangelical Christians who resided near Clapham and formed a
strong community amongst one another. The group was ardently committed to Practical Christianity
and abolishing slavery. This is summarised succinctly by Together, this Clapham fellowship sought to
make the British Empire an instrument of social and moral welfare to all people. This commonly held
view shows that the Clapham Sect knew the magnitude and the significance the British Empire held
and could use this as a platform to project their christian ideals onto people who in their eyes were
worse off for not conforming to these ideals. The Empire was seen as something that could enlighten
through Christianity, however it brought violence through Slavery, the biggest demon in the eyes of
the Clapham Sect therefore it is of

A Common Problem Faced By Immigrants Essay
Recent happenings around the world have brought the subject of migration to the forefront of
everyday conversation. However, the migration phenomenon is not a new one but can be traced as far
back as human history itself. In some way, migration can be seen as an innate part of animal behavior
and the human experience. Historically, several push and pull factors have forced several groups to
move across the globe in the hopes of improving their situations. However, the circumstances
surrounding one s migration to a new place differs for each individual. Apart from the political and
economic strife of migration to a different country, immigrants and refugees are left with the added
struggle of maintaining their social identity, culture, and kinship when acclimating to a new
environment.
In order to properly explain this topic, I draw on the information from several articles, lectures, films,
and interviews I have conducted with close family and friends.
A common problem faced by immigrants is social identity. Social identity refers to the need to identify
as a member of a group and not merely as an individual. Man is a social being and being able to
identify with a group helps in giving a sense of belonging, developing self esteem and a sense of
pride. Social identity and sense of self are therefore important to an individual s well being. As a
member of a group, every individual performs the role(s) and expectations of that group. However,
intersectional identities exist

Why Should A Health Information Professional Possess A...
Ch. 1 review questions #1 Why should a health information professional possess a fundamental
understanding of the law? Because it allows the HIM professional to be consciously aware of the duty
and responsibility that he/she has in regards to patient confidentiality, privacy and security. It also
allows them to know what the repercussions might be in case they were to break the law. #2 Does a
single document or source of law exist where an individual can find all of the rules governing health
information? Why or why not? No. Since the laws and regulations are divided into federal, state and
local levels, they are interpreted differently by each of the court systems, all three different levels. This
makes it impossible for all law relating health information to ascend from a single source. #5 Explain
the concepts of stare decisis and res judicata. Stare decisis to let the decision stand operates in a
pyramid type fashion and is the doctrine that judicial decisions stand as precedent for cases arising in
the future. It is a fundamental policy of our law that, except in unusual circumstances, a court s
determination on a point of law will be followed by courts of the same or lower rank in later cases
presenting the same legal issue, even though different parties are involved and any years have elapsed.

A service level agreement (SLA) is a document that identifies an expected level of performance. It

could specify a maximum downtime of four hours. After four hours, hourly penalties will start to
accrue. You can relate this to the maximum acceptable outage (MAO).

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
FERPA applies to all education institutions and agencies that receive funding under any program
administered by the U.S. Department of Education (ED).
The obvious examples are any public schools from grades K through 12. However, many other entities
can receive funding from ED. This includes any school or agency offering preschool programs. It
includes any institution of higher education. It can also include community colleges or any other
education institution.
Children s Internet Protection Act (CIPA)
CIPA applies to any school or library that receives funding from the U.S. E Rate program. The Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) sponsors the E Rate program. It provides discounts for Internet
access. Schools and libraries are not required to use the E Rate program. However, if they choose to
take advantage of the discounts, they are governed by CIPA. The annual E Rate application requires
schools and libraries to certify they are complying with CIPA.
Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS)
PCI DSS is not a law. Instead, it is a standard that was jointly created by several credit card
companies. Any organization that accepts credit card payments over the Internet needs to comply with
PCI DSS..

Linear Programming
The development of linear programming has been ranked among the most important scientific
advances of the mid 20th century. Its impact since the 1950 s has been extraordinary. Today it is a
standard tool used by some companies (around 56%) of even moderate size. Linear programming uses
a mathematical model to describe the problem of concern. Linear programming involves the planning
of activities to obtain an optimal result, i.e., a result that reaches the specified goal best (according to
the mathematical model) among all feasible alternatives.
Linear Programming as seen by various reports by many companies has saved them thousands to even
millions of dollars. Since this is true why isn t everyone using Linear Programming? Maybe the ...

I believe that every company should be using LP and I have hypothesized that linear programming
increases both EPS, ROI and by definition Profit. This research therefore assumes that a company not
using LP would have made less money than one that did use LP. The sample is 28 companies and I felt
this would be sufficient as a sample size as statisticians typically recommend a minimum of 20 data
points (in this case companies) in order to test a hypothesis. The companies are located in and near the
state of Delaware and also include New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
This research is not exhaustive and therefore will not be final in terms of how it is interpreted but it
will assist others who wish to use much larger samples and over much longer periods of time to refine
the results and potentially prove that LP does have a consistent improvement effect on a company s
profits, ROI and EPS measures of performance. Method
I used the survey research method as the basis of my research design. Calls were made to each
company that was randomly selected and for whom their results were collected. Each company was
asked the question Can we speak to your corporate planning and decision support function . If they
were unsure of which department was meant, we would then ask Can we speak to the key people
within your organization who are responsible for

Summary Of The Silent
Motionless, like a wounded prey cornered by its predator, I finally understood the definition of fear.
To be victimised as the villain of the story. To be discriminated as the plague behind all creation s
problems. To be stereotyped as the face of the oppressors. The fear was so overwhelming and
overpowering, as if my stomach was rotting away, with whatever dignity that remained of me being
eaten by blood thirsty parasites. I could only pray for the Earth beneath me to crack wide open and
swallow me into an eternal abyss away from this trembling terror. It was the perfect setting for a
perfect day. The historic city of Granada was in a state of euphoria, as the beaming radiance of the sun
struck the town, evoking an atmosphere of joy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Happiness and excitement permeated the crowd, cheering for what I could only guess being the
imaginative floats, the thundering tempo played by the bands, and the exhilarating surroundings itself.
The breath taking spectacle of the confetti engulfing the sky like the miraculous sight of a
murmuration, struck the city into a collective awe, bringing a smile to everyone s faces. Amidst the
enjoyment, our group leader was approached by a homeless woman, who requested for spare change
in order to buy water to quench her thirst. The group leader gave twenty euros to the homeless man
like it was just a simple day to day routine. TWENTY? was the confound reaction of the group and I,
astonished at the fact that what we deemed as a fortune, was simply a mere piece of replaceable paper
for our group leader. A man so humble yet so profound, wearing nothing but a simple white ankle
length garment and worn out sandals. With a long black beard that he stroked at times, the group
leader did not pay attention to the juxtaposition of his appearance. Giving the slightest of thoughts to
his outward appearance and how society portrayed him and his lack of style , but instead paid close
attention to his inward appearance and his

Taking a Look at Morocco
Introduction
Morocco a country that in itself has a rich history that dates back to prehistoric times. An odd land
where you can sit in 80 degree temps and have palm trees surrounding you and look up to the
mountains tops covered in snow. Where so many have wondered in to discover a part of Africa rich in
abundance of unique culture and heritage. Where poets and story tellers have left with a story to tell of
a great land to which they have traveled. American Paul Bowles wrote many books set in Morocco,
arguably the best being The Spiders House, which is set in Fez. There were many famous authors from
Morocco itself which gave the outside world an insight to the country. Some famous Moroccans
authors include Leila Abouzeid, Barbara Parmenter who wrote the famous book, Year of the Elephant:
A Moroccan Woman s Journey Toward Independence. Challenging the way people treated woman and
thoughts of woman. Even though this book was fictional it encouraged a forward movement for the
rights of Moroccan woman, all by using the power of pen. It caught the attention and eye of many
westerners which lead to a revolution of woman s rights. First published in 1983, was the first novel
written by a Moroccan to sell out worldwide. Is it the beautiful Berber city of Ouarzazate, which
seems to be a favorite with Hollywood producers, thanks to its terracotta Kasbah s and outlandish
scenic surrounds? What is it that makes this country so special and captivating? Is it the people, a
melting pot

Image As Presence In Blade Runner
The concept of image as presence refers to the concept that film can show the world as it truly is.
Directors can choose to project the idea of image as presence in multiple ways, through the subjective
viewpoints of the characters of the film, through an objective approach in which an omnipresent force
that dictates to us about the facts that exist. In contrast, image as text, operates on the understanding
that the world cannot be shown as it is, rather there is an understanding that what the viewer is seeing
comes from an interpretive perspective. This viewpoint expects the audience to make connections
between what they are seeing on the screen and other images that are already known. Making
connections is part of the way that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The result is that the dystopian future becomes a realistic possibility to the audience. This has two
effects, in the first it makes the events of the film more plausible. Technological development and the
creation of robotic life could eventually occur in our own reality. In this regard, the film is using
image as presence by setting up this believable world. However, in the second arena it makes the
audience reflect on the questions of urbanity and development that exist in our current paradigm, thus
inviting discussion about the way human and planning elements are being merged together in our own
technology driven world. These concepts are as relevant now as they were when the film was first
released two decades ago. The camera continually roves over this world creating spatial continuity
that implies that there is virtually no escape from this smoky, polluted, society. The landscape provides
a site for making metaphor about the socioeconomic divide that characterizes the Blade Runner
universe. The skyscrapers of the wealthy are clear symbols of how the poor are at the bottom of the
socio economic

  • 2. Macro Level Analysis Sociologists use two levels of analysis: macro and micro. Macro level analysis observes large scale configurations of society such as, social change and stability. Micro level analysis observes small scale configurations of society such as, communication or group motivation. Symbolic interactionism, functional analysis, and conflict theory each fall under either a macro or micro level analysis category. Symbolic interactionism focuses on micro level analysis because, it focuses on face to face interactions; how society establishes social life through the use of symbols. Functional analysis and conflict theory both fall under the macro level analysis category. Functional analysis uses macro level analysis because, it focuses on the innner parts of society and how these parts work together and function as a whole unit. Symbolic interactionists would focus on the micro level, they would analyze what people do and what technology does for people on a day to day basis. They would also analyze the way people use technology to communicate and how social media has dominated real social life. In contrast, functionalists and conflict theorists would focus more on the macro level, how changes in the lives of Americans has caused a rise in the obesity rate. Functionalists might stress that today the upsurge in technology has taken over a lot of jobs which, in turn, causes a decrease in income forcing people to buy cheap fast food to save their money, especially those who have several mouths to feed. Functionalist might also analyze the change in lifestyles, that technology has increased laziness in America, how you can turn the lights on, lock the door, turn the TV on, order food and necessities that come to your doorstep, feed your pets, talk to friends and family, and we can do all of that and many more with just the push of a button. • 4. How Does Ronald Wright Define Civic Participation In A... Civic involvement and citizenship are common terms used interchangeably in order to describe individual responsibility in society. However, upon further evaluation, both words address different aspects of society itself. Citizenship can be understood as certain obligations, liberties, and privileges embodied by an individual; and civic involvement is the activities associated with those responsibilities. The following definition summarizes the broader scope of citizenship and civic involvement assumed in A Short History of Progress by Ronald Wright. In this book, Wright describes the progress of citizenship, and the perception that mankind gradually improves over time. Wright refutes this idea describing it as a progress trap . Progress traps are created by the overuse of natural resources, too much faith in religion, and natural short comings. Past societies, such as the Roman Empire and the Aztecs, structured their culture around progress and economic growth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Citizen participation in community affairs serves as a check to politicians since it reduces the likelihood of leaders making self serving decisions. For example, in 3,000 B.C. half of the land that was irrigated in the Fertile Crescent became saline due to the overuse of the land. This uninhabitable ecosystem is now forced onto present day communities because the leaders of that time made rash and unplanned decisions. Such cultural patterns are very dangerous since it leaves no room for population growth, innovations, and natural fluctuations. • 6. Essay on Farmer Dilemma 1. Railroads Railroads in each area were often controlled by one company, enabling those railroads to charge what they wanted. Railroads were the only way for many western farmers to get their produce to market and high prices were always charged. Railroads controlled storage, elevators, and warehouses so the prices the farmers paid were very high. Middlemen Middlemen set the price of the produce low when they sold because the market price was unpredictable. Indeed, Document A states that farmers overproduced which caused prices to fall, but it is very evident and far more explanation is given for reasons such as railroads, banks, and the lack of government help. 4. Because farmers could only afford one machine most times, most farmers specialized in what crop the machine worked best with. 5. The value of money appreciated 300% so that the value of the farmers goods decreased to ½ of what it used to be. 6. This could be both beneficial or harmful with the deflation. They might not have enough money to pay for things. On the other hand, the interest/mortgage rates were the same. 7. Farmers might suggest that a remedy for deflation is to have more government involvement such as paying farmers a certain amount to NOT grow crops to ensure a profit (or some earnings) for that year. Because prices fall in a deflated economy, and the price for crops is already set low, farmers could not plant as much crop either. Additionally, they could petition for the government to set the price in proportion to their income. 8. There would have been strong forces to depreciate the currency in the late nineteenth century because 9. A college such as The University of Illinois could provide farmers with the knowledge of new technology that could give them better crops for possibly less cost and a way to limit production. Additionally, it could teach farmers how to respond to new market

  • 12. Fashion In The 1800 s Fashion in the late 1800 s was a form of constraint for women, prohibiting them from living freely and restricting them to simple activities. Looking closely at period fashion offers better understanding of an author s characters. The silly and frivolous characters in Pride and Prejudice, such as Lydia and Mrs. Bennet, are concerned with finery, while the sensible and realistic Lizzy could care less. During Jane Austen s time, women were judged on their natural beauty and their ability to enhance it with clothing. Even in the nineteenth century, there was specific fashion trends that women followed. Kirstin Olsen explains that women wore decorative petticoats with ornamental bands as undergarments (164). Sarah Downing mentions that old dresses were even recycled as petticoats (18). The poem takes place during a time when women s reflections were changing quickly, and women s movement was becoming more important. Foreign Body Granuloma FDG is a non physiological analogue of glucose that once injected, is taken up by cell membrane glucose receptors (Mainly, the glucose transporter 1 molecule, GLUT 1) which transport it into the intracellular compartment, where it is phosphorylated into FDG 6 phosphate by the enzymatic action of hexokinase. Although party identification is often thought to be a function of affective attachment to a party, it is also a function of social identification with the party. Moreover, it is likely that affective attachment to a party acts as a source or a byproduct for social identification, or some combination of the two. Shared social identity provides pre dictability with a low cost for information cues (Greene, 1999). As suggested by Greene, intergroup relationships take precedence over intellectual concerns in the formation of politi cal attitudes and party affiliation. Thus, political identities are more likely to produce parti san polarization, rather than specific ideologies or policies. Social identity theory allows us to examine the motivational and cognitive basis for the consistent bipolar perceptual and attitudinal patterns in politics (Greene, 2000). In sup port of social identity theory, Greene found that people tended to think and feel more favor ably about the party they identified with and more negatively about the opposing party. • 33. Importance Of Water Purification Water purification is the removal of contaminants from raw water to produce drinking water that is pure enough for human consumption or for industrial use. Substances that are removed during the process include parasites (such as Giardia or Cryptosporidium) , bacteria, algae, viruses, fungi, minerals (including toxic metals such as Lead, Copper etc.), and man made chemical pollutants. Many contaminants can be dangerous but depending on the quality standards, others are removed to improve the water s smell, taste, and appearance. A small amount of disinfectant is usually intentionally left in the water at the end of the treatment process to reduce the risk of re contamination in the distribution system. Many environmental and cost considerations affect the location and design of water purification plants. Groundwater is cheaper to treat, but aquifers usually have limited output and can take thousands of years to recharge. Surface water sources should be carefully monitored for the presence of unusual types or levels of microbial/disease causing contaminants. The treatment plant itself must be kept secure from vandalism and terrorism. It is not possible to tell whether water is safe to drink just by looking at it. Simple procedures such as boiling or the use of a household charcoal filter are not sufficient for treating water from an unknown source. Youth Incarceration Research Paper The Incarceration of Juveniles It is estimated that on any given day there are 80,000 youth incarcerated in the United States, which is more than any other developed country in the world(Townes, 1). Incarcerating youth before exploring other options is a social injustice. Judges rather give short term solutions than permanently fix the problem. To understand why this is a social injustice, four pieces of information must be known: the causes, who it affects and how, who s responsible, and solutions in place. Incarcerating youth affects them in many different ways. One way is the psychiatric damage prisons cause. Being in prison means that the child is not able to be with their family and community, which can lead to feelings of loneliness and depression. Studies show that incarcerated youth die from suicide at a rate two to three times more than non incarcerated youths (Polish,1). In addition to mental health effects, incarceration at a young age affects the person s future by lowering their chances of finding a job. Did we cause them to go extinct or did we live and interbreed with them? I will be focusing specifically on the discovery of the fossil species, where the species is in the human ancestral tree, anatomical similarities and differences with Homo sapiens, and the lifestyle and extinction of the Neanderthals. The first fossil found, named Neanderthal 1, was found in 1856 in Germany. The name Homo neanderthalensis was suggested by Geologist William King, because the fossil was found in the Feldhofer Cave of the Neander Valley in Germany and tal (a modern version of thal) means valley in German. The change in the company s debt composition will change ratios such as debt to capital which is used to determine the investment grade rating. Compared to other industrial firms, Timken shows relatively high sales numbers ($279.4 million) as well EBITDA figures ($275.7 million). I want to focus on the two main wives in Othello and The Duchess of Malfi both characters are being judged for being impure and unmoral. Desdemona and the Duchess diverge from each other because they have very different attitudes toward the men in the plays. However, the migration phenomenon is not a new one but can be traced as far back as human history itself. In some way, migration can be seen as an innate part of animal behavior and the human experience. Historically, several push and pull factors have forced several groups to move across the globe in the hopes of improving their situations. However, the circumstances surrounding one s migration to a new place differs for each individual. Apart from the political and economic strife of migration to a different country, immigrants and refugees are left with the added struggle of maintaining their social identity, culture, and kinship when acclimating to a new environment. In order to properly explain this topic, I draw on the information from several articles, lectures, films, and interviews I have conducted with close family and friends. A common problem faced by immigrants is social identity. Social identity refers to the need to identify as a member of a group and not merely as an individual. Man is a social being and being able to identify with a group helps in giving a sense of belonging, developing self esteem and a sense of pride. Social identity and sense of self are therefore important to an individual s well being. As a member of a group, every individual performs the role(s) and expectations of that group. • 44. Linear Programming The development of linear programming has been ranked among the most important scientific advances of the mid 20th century. Its impact since the 1950 s has been extraordinary. Today it is a standard tool used by some companies (around 56%) of even moderate size. Linear programming uses a mathematical model to describe the problem of concern. Linear programming involves the planning of activities to obtain an optimal result, i.e., a result that reaches the specified goal best (according to the mathematical model) among all feasible alternatives. Linear Programming as seen by various reports by many companies has saved them thousands to even millions of dollars. Since this is true why isn t everyone using Linear Programming? Maybe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that every company should be using LP and I have hypothesized that linear programming increases both EPS, ROI and by definition Profit. This research therefore assumes that a company not using LP would have made less money than one that did use LP. The sample is 28 companies and I felt this would be sufficient as a sample size as statisticians typically recommend a minimum of 20 data points (in this case companies) in order to test a hypothesis. The companies are located in and near the state of Delaware and also include New Jersey and Pennsylvania. This research is not exhaustive and therefore will not be final in terms of how it is interpreted but it will assist others who wish to use much larger samples and over much longer periods of time to refine the results and potentially prove that LP does have a consistent improvement effect on a company s profits, ROI and EPS measures of performance. Method I used the survey research method as the basis of my research design. Calls were made to each company that was randomly selected and for whom their results were collected. Each company was asked the question Can we speak to your corporate planning and decision support function . If they were unsure of which department was meant, we would then ask Can we speak to the key people within your organization who are responsible for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Summary Of The Silent Motionless, like a wounded prey cornered by its predator, I finally understood the definition of fear. To be victimised as the villain of the story. To be discriminated as the plague behind all creation s problems. To be stereotyped as the face of the oppressors. The fear was so overwhelming and overpowering, as if my stomach was rotting away, with whatever dignity that remained of me being eaten by blood thirsty parasites. I could only pray for the Earth beneath me to crack wide open and swallow me into an eternal abyss away from this trembling terror. It was the perfect setting for a perfect day. The historic city of Granada was in a state of euphoria, as the beaming radiance of the sun struck the town, evoking an atmosphere of joy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Happiness and excitement permeated the crowd, cheering for what I could only guess being the imaginative floats, the thundering tempo played by the bands, and the exhilarating surroundings itself. The breath taking spectacle of the confetti engulfing the sky like the miraculous sight of a murmuration, struck the city into a collective awe, bringing a smile to everyone s faces. Amidst the enjoyment, our group leader was approached by a homeless woman, who requested for spare change in order to buy water to quench her thirst. The group leader gave twenty euros to the homeless man like it was just a simple day to day routine. TWENTY? was the confound reaction of the group and I, astonished at the fact that what we deemed as a fortune, was simply a mere piece of replaceable paper for our group leader. A man so humble yet so profound, wearing nothing but a simple white ankle length garment and worn out sandals. With a long black beard that he stroked at times, the group leader did not pay attention to the juxtaposition of his appearance. Giving the slightest of thoughts to his outward appearance and how society portrayed him and his lack of style , but instead paid close attention to his inward appearance and his ... • 46. Taking a Look at Morocco Introduction Morocco a country that in itself has a rich history that dates back to prehistoric times. An odd land where you can sit in 80 degree temps and have palm trees surrounding you and look up to the mountains tops covered in snow. Where so many have wondered in to discover a part of Africa rich in abundance of unique culture and heritage. Where poets and story tellers have left with a story to tell of a great land to which they have traveled. American Paul Bowles wrote many books set in Morocco, arguably the best being The Spiders House, which is set in Fez. There were many famous authors from Morocco itself which gave the outside world an insight to the country. Some famous Moroccans authors include Leila Abouzeid, Barbara Parmenter who wrote the famous book, Year of the Elephant: A Moroccan Woman s Journey Toward Independence. Challenging the way people treated woman and thoughts of woman. Even though this book was fictional it encouraged a forward movement for the rights of Moroccan woman, all by using the power of pen. It caught the attention and eye of many westerners which lead to a revolution of woman s rights. First published in 1983, was the first novel written by a Moroccan to sell out worldwide. • 47. Image As Presence In Blade Runner The concept of image as presence refers to the concept that film can show the world as it truly is. Directors can choose to project the idea of image as presence in multiple ways, through the subjective viewpoints of the characters of the film, through an objective approach in which an omnipresent force that dictates to us about the facts that exist. In contrast, image as text, operates on the understanding that the world cannot be shown as it is, rather there is an understanding that what the viewer is seeing comes from an interpretive perspective. This viewpoint expects the audience to make connections between what they are seeing on the screen and other images that are already known. Making connections is part of the way that ... This has two effects, in the first it makes the events of the film more plausible. Technological development and the creation of robotic life could eventually occur in our own reality. In this regard, the film is using image as presence by setting up this believable world. However, in the second arena it makes the audience reflect on the questions of urbanity and development that exist in our current paradigm, thus inviting discussion about the way human and planning elements are being merged together in our own technology driven world. These concepts are as relevant now as they were when the film was first released two decades ago. The camera continually roves over this world creating spatial continuity that implies that there is virtually no escape from this smoky, polluted, society. The landscape provides a site for making metaphor about the socioeconomic divide that characterizes the Blade Runner universe.
