Taking a Look at Complentizers
Chapter 1: Complementizers
1.1. Definition of Complementizers
Complement clauses, or subordinate clauses, are most of the times preceded by a special word called
Complementizer . Words like that, if, and for are used to introduce clauses that function as a
complement of the matrix verb. The choice of the verb in the subordi nate clause is related to these
complementizers. For instance, the complementizers that, if and the Arabic complementizer ʔanna are
used to introduce finite clauses, while for and the Arabic ʔan are, of course, for infinitival ones.
Our focus in this chapter is going to be on the study of each type of these com plementizers in
isolation.
1.2. Finite complementizers
A finite clause contains a conjugated verb, that is a verb marked for tense, person, and number. In
English, finite clauses have an overt subject. (Marguerite Mahler:2004). Whereas, a finite clause in
Arabic is the clause that has a conjugated verb in one of the tenses of Arabic ( present, past, and
future).
It is well known that the main, or the matrix, clause of a complex sentence must be fi nite. While, on
the other hand, the finiteness of the embedded clause is related mainly to the complementizer that
precedes it. Consequently, the clauses that follow the comple mentizers that, if, and the Arabic ʔanna
are finite clauses.
1.2.1. The complementizer that
That is a complementizer used to introduce finite declarative clauses that function as a complement or
subject of the matrix clause.

Swot Analysis Of Verizon
Introduction Verizon Communications (referred to as Verizon) and Vodafone s partnership of Verizon
Wireless ended when Verizon acquired the wireless division during 2013. The acquisition cost Verizon
$130 billion, but the gains increase Verizon s possibilities into the future. In fact, it moves Verizon
closer to their goal of corporate strategy: to build corporate advantage to earn above normal returns
(Diversification, n.d.). Verizon s strategy scope broadens horizontally with the acquisition. A company
broadens its scope in three ways: horizontally, vertically, and geographically. A geographic scope
expands the organization geographically or globally (Divers, n.d.) A vertical scope comprises of
expanding forward, backward, or both, while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the acquisition, Verizon passes this test easily. Verizon s 4G LTE is the fastest data network type
available in the U. S. While Cingular has a mass following on its wireless network, it is not the fastest.
With continuing demand for devices to connect wirelessly increasing consumers mobility, Verizon s
prospects grow. Verizon also gains capabilities that enhance its offering with providing services
consumers never knew they needed. It goes beyond the unlimited data plans now offered from the
original shared plans from the beginning. Thinking beyond consumer needs of tomorrow, but further
into the future, Verizon seeks creative ideas by thinking outside the box. It is those paradoxical
suggestions, like its 4G LTE, that sustains the organization. The second test of durability means the
resources depreciate slowly (Collis Montgomery, 2008). From the look of Verizon s network, the 103
million additional customers, its reputation, and its brand are not depreciable. Verizon delivers quality
and reliable service through its network, building customer loyalty and trust. Its reputation derived
from the delivery of quality and reliable service strengthens its brand. As the company introduces new
ideas and means to enhance consumer mobility, the more durable its reputation and brand

The Cost Effectiveness Of A Drug Or Treatment
Rising healthcare costs are a growing concern among individuals, employers, and the federal
government. The national conversation on how to best control those costs has forced many drug
manufacturers to reevaluate the economics of new, expensive drugs and therapies. Now more than
ever, the need to evaluate outcomes and costs associated with alternative treatments has never been
greater.
Understanding the cost effectiveness of a drug or treatment can be a challenge. Clinical trials are
traditionally performed on subsets of the population in tightly controlled environments for a relatively
short time. They are primarily responsible for evaluating treatment efficacy. But pressure to control
healthcare costs has increased the emphasis on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chance nodes (circles) depict the possible consequence positive or negative of the decision. They are
referred to as transition states. Transition probabilities are assigned to each transition state and they
must always sum to one. Triangles indicate the point at which the analysis ends and the health impact
and/or costs of each consequence is quantified. When decision tree analysis is done at the same time
as the clinical trial, the payoff may also be expressed as utilities. Utility can be described in numerous
ways. For example, as a percentage of full health. A value of 0.7 corresponds to a person living at 70%
of full health. Another way to express utility is quality adjusted life years (QALY). Expected value of
each therapy is calculated by multiplying the payoff (dollars, percent, QALYS etc.) with the
probability of occurrence for every possible transition state.
While decision trees are simple to comprehend, complicated real world scenarios cannot be
adequately modeled with basic decision tree analysis. The tree cannot model repetitive events or
transitions back and forth between two states. To model repetitive events or transitions backward
would require numerous repetitive transition states. Trying to create a path for every possible scenario
can quickly lead to a complicated, unmanageable decision tree.
Another inherent limitation of decision tree analysis is its stagnant nature. Model conditions, such as
transition probabilities or costs, are not

The Trojan War Essay
Over the past years a lot of archaeological and literary evidence has helped us gain a better
understanding of the history of Troy. Much hard work has gone into the excavations there by many
archaeologists, and many interesting artefacts have been found. The story of the Ancient City of Troy
is a great one, however many people believed it didn t exist and that Homers Iliad, the story of the
Trojan War was just some story. This has since been proved untrue as the city of Troy was discovered,
and the pieces of this amazing puzzle have fallen together. Homer described Troy as an exceptionally
large city with large high powerful walls, wide streets, twisting paths and large houses. Some of the
archaeologists that have contributed to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He started excavation at the site in 1870. Schliemann caused a lot of damage to his beloved Troy. He
worked on the site for three years with 160 men helping him. In his rush to find the real Troy he dug
straight through the other levels until he found a level that looked like it had suffered from burning .
He had dug through to level two . He had also found a great stone gate, wide enough to fit two
chariots through side by side. This was a massive clue, as Homer had described a similar gateway in
his Iliad . As a result of Schliemann s unorganised dig he had destroyed other levels of troy which
were more likely to be the Troy Homer described. Schliemann had many convinced that he had found
the fallen city of Troy, but others were not so sure. He needed something to prove that this was the
Troy from the Trojan War. Then during his last season of excavation at the location of Troy he found
it, King Priam s lost treasure. He dug out the treasure, and placed them on his wife which he then took
a photo of . It turned out that Schliemann s wife wasn t even in the country when he found the
treasure. There was also suspicion that he had just bought the jewels from an antique shop in the town.
In 1873 Schliemann concluded his excavation. Although he had destroyed a lot of troy, he had found
where the city was located, and this was something many people believed impossible, he had given us

Proper Level Of Segregation Between Audit And Non Audit...
Abstract
Abstract:The purpose of this research paper is to discuss the proper level of segregation between audit
and non audit services, to ensure independence and instill public confidence. In the wake of numerous
accounting scandals of Enron, WorldCom, etc, the importance of auditor independence has been
brought to the forefront of the accounting profession. The U.S. Public Company Accounting Oversight
Board (PCAOB) has taken a strict stance on auditor independence, which signifies that an auditor
cannot provide business advisory services without impeding their autonomy. However, an analysis of
the current auditor client relationship reveals contradictions to the interpretation of absolute auditor
independence. In recent developments, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, AICPA s Code of Professional Conduct contains over 200 pages of interpretive guidance
on the topic of independence alone. The AICPA and PCAOB stress heavily on the importance of
auditor independence, and for good reason. Financial statement users trust independent auditors ability
to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements are free of material
misstatement, whether caused by error or fraud. (AU C 200.06) Auditor independence is required to
instill public confidence in U.S. financial markets. Thus, the Public Company Accounting Oversight
Board (PCAOB) has a strict view on independence in both fact and appearance. In AU 220.01,
PCAOB states that an auditor must be without bias with respect to the client. More specifically, an
independent auditor must be free from any obligation to or interest in the client, its management, or its
owners. (AU 220.03) This strict interpretation of auditor independence was adopted as a means to
restore public confidence in U.S. financial markets following the Enron, Waste Management, and
other frauds in the early 2000 s. Unfortunately, the concept of strict auditor independence may be
impossible in today s public accounting environment. There are several environmental factors that
influence perceived auditor independence. The underlying fee structure for accounting firms that audit
public companies prohibits complete auditor client

Mary s Grandmother Research Paper
Throughout Luke s Gospel the importance of women is stressed, and of these women, Mary, the
mother of God, is the most important and highly acclaimed. Although Mary is the most highly
acclaimed we often misinterpret our understanding of her. In order to gain a more detailed and
descriptive understanding of the mother of God we must investigate the four Marian Dogmas that are
associated with her. Not only will an investigation of Mary s Divine Motherhood, Perpetual Virginity,
Immaculate Conception, and Assumption serve to further our understanding of her, but it will also
help us realize the indispensable need for Mariology. The first dogma of Mary is her Divine
Motherhood which is basical the principle that she and only she is the mother of

Characteristics Of Empress Wu Zhao And Genghis Khan Of The...
Successful Empires from Vicious, Cold Hearted, Bloodthirsty Rulers
During the Medieval Period, the two rulers that are highlighted for their successful governing of their
empire are Empress Wu Zhao, ruler of the Tang Dynasty, and Genghis Khan, ruler of the Mongols.
During the reign of Empress Wu Zhao (also referred to as the Holy and Divine Emperor) and Genghis
Khan (also referred to as the Universal Ruler), both rulers created numerous changes within their
empire in an attempt to spark a new world in the empire. Both Empress Wu Zhao of the Tang Dynasty
and Genghis Khan of the Mongols share similarities and differences in their achievements that
permitted them in establishing a unified empire and having a successful reign.
In the people s eyes, Empress Wu Zhao and Genghis Khan were viewed as vicious, cold hearted, and
bloodthirsty rulers, because of their chief purpose in gaining sole power that would allow them to rule
their empire. During Empress Wu Zhao s reign, she committed immoral acts such as going to the
extent of executing her opponents and blaming the deaths of her poisoned nieces on her troublesome
nephews. During Genghis Khan s reign, there were several acts of conquests, invasions, and warrior
like behavior that resulted in several wars, which caused the non Mongolians to consider him as a
cruel ruler due to the destruction of his expeditions. For instance, in the battle against the Tatars,
majority of the people were slaughtered and children were captured to become his loyal subjects when
matured. Through these acts of cruelty, the rulers were seen as evil. The rulers were always prepared
to eliminate any rivals that would interfere with their power or become a hindrance to them. For
example, Empress Wu Zhao eliminated the existing empress of China and the leading concubines,
which were blocking her path in rising into power, enabling her to obtain the position of Empress of
China herself in the year of 655. Empress Wu Zhao went ahead and imprisoned all members of the
Tang Dynasty royal bloodline in order to ensure her reign s security. For Genghis Khan, he eliminated
all his existing rivals that consisted of Jamuka, the Tatars, Toghril, Kereit, and the Naiman ruler, which
led him to proclaim

Proteomics Essay
4.2 Combination of proteomics and interactomics
The study of PPI is fundamental to define the molecular networks that contribute to homeostasis of
living organisms. Disruptions in protein interaction networks have been shown to cause diseases in
both human and animals. For instance, PPI disturbances have been shown to be involved in cancer
caused by p53 mutations [47], neurodegenerative diseases resulting from protein aggregates
accumulation [48], and virus host interactions [49]. Therefore, the monitoring and study of PPIs can
provide innovative options for identifying diagnostic and therapeutic targets that have potential for
broader clinical applicability. Technological advances in genomics and proteomics have spawned a

Shorter routes to the clinic are also possible because in vitro and in vivo screening, chemical
optimization, toxicology, bulk manufacturing, formulation development and even early clinical
development may have already been completed and can therefore be bypassed. Collectively, these
factors enable several years, and substantial risks and costs, to be removed from the pathway to the
market [51].
By submitting the hub bottleneck proteins identified through network analysis, we identified potential
drug repositioning candidates. Phosphoaminophosphonic acid adenylate ester [52], is a small
molecule, classified as a purine ribonucleotide that targets HSP90AA1. It is currently experimental
and has not been evaluated in clinical trials, but is predicted to cross the blood brain barrier. It may be
a promising candidate for treating MPS VII for its anti oxidant effects. Quercetin, a small molecule
antioxidant targeting ATP5A1, and a naturally occurring molecule, is also a promising candidate for
antioxidant therapy. It is being evaluated in several clinical trials, including trials evaluating its use for
cancer prevention, cancer treatment, and treatment of polyneuropathies. Rifabutin, which has been
shown to also be able to inhibit activation of inflammatory cells and has demonstrated ability to target
HSP90AA1, emerges as another potential drug candidate. Rifabutin is FDA approved as an

The Shamanism Of Seances During The Victorian Era
People who believe in spirits, for the most part, belong to one of two groups: those who delight in
ghost stories but run at the first signs of a haunting and those who want nothing more than to
encounter a ghost firsthand. For the latter group, seances are likely the best way to contact the other
side.
Nowadays, a seance may refer to any number of spiritual processes, from automatic writing to playing
with a Ouija board, and it s part of a long history of humans trying to speak to the dead (see
Shamanism in its countless iterations). But, according to the original definition, a seance is a guided

and U.K. during the Victorian era, the practice s height. Modern spiritualism, in which seances played
a major role, promoted the idea that life did not end when someone s physical form died. Instead, it
was believed that their spirits lingered around, waiting for someone with the supernatural skills
necessary to reach them.
And boy, did those skills vary. Some mediums claimed they could contact ghosts in song, while others
said they needed only a glass of water to sense any spirits present. The most common means of
communication, however, was through a process called table rapping, in which the medium would
enter a quiet, trance like state, ask any spirits present to come forward, and pose a question, and then
the spirit would respond by knocking on the underside of the table (with, for example, one knock
meaning yes and two knocks meaning no ).
Whether or not these mediums were actually able to speak to the dead, they ended up providing a
unique service to the people of the notoriously buttoned up Victorian society. During a seance,
participants were allowed to express themselves freely grief, shock, and fear are totally permissible
(and justifiable) reactions to believing you re speaking to a ghost, after all. Accounts of people crying

Professional Goals Of Becoming A United States Army Officer
In life I ve experienced the roller coaster of great success, and great failure. Freezing in the back of a
car in early January. Kicked out of my home and nowhere to turn, this was by far the lowest point in
my life. I vowed to never be there again. Therefore, a week later I was in a recruiting office for the
united states army. Since then I ve obtained the Professional goal of becoming a commissioned officer.
My personal goals are as follows: Become educated, become well spoken and to travel the world. I
want to become a leader of men. It s been that way ever since I was in high school. At the age of
sixteen I was behind the scenes leader of stage crew, The state treasurer for Colorado Technology
Student association. All while keeping up in my studies. I want to continue my studies to achieve my
current goals.
The only way I can achieve my goals is to achieve a bachelor s degree in a field of my choice. I have
chosen Colorado State University Global for a few reasons. The first is to follow in the footsteps of
my father. The second is I believe that a business management degree with an emphasis on project
management will relate closest to my current occupation. As of right now I m a Private in the Army,
but with a degree I can achieve a higher rank. To become an effective leader, you also need to be able
to communicate with members of your team. Going through classes that require you to put your ideas,

The PS2 offers a reasonably powerful processor, about 297MHz (Megahertz). It may seem a little bit
on the sluggish side compared to the processor of Xbox, about 733MHz, and to the GameCube
processor, about 485MHz. If you ask me, I think that 733MHz is a little much for a gaming console, it

The PS2 can play DVD s, audio CD s, PlayStation 2 discs, and PlayStation discs. The Xbox supports

employee empowerment in service industry firms has been associated with many of the key issues
related to employment practices in general namely in gaining competitive advantage through

a threat that employees may not want to become empowered, as they fear the increased level of
responsibility and accountability. Fiermonte (2004) adds employees may be unwilling to accept their
new empowered status as they are afraid their actions and decisions may infuriate mnagement resuts

Cost management strategies should be utilized as components of a larger objective to maintain

The Progressive Republican Views Of The State After World...
Born in Los Angeles, California on March 19,1891, raised in Bakersfield, California and attended UC
Berkley this California native would be the Progressive Republican who reshapes many aspects of
California in his three terms as Governor. Being modest and a realist, were key components in Earl
Warren s success. Although many may have disagreed with Earl Warren s leadership, he made
profound impacts on California by shaping the state after World War II, taking on controversial issues
and bringing lasting changes to California.
The profound impacts he made on shaping California after World War II begun during his time as
California s Attorney General and continued with him into his Governorship. With World War II
ending California would continue to experience an unpredictable expansion socially, economically,
and also set a proactive state government which was led by the Governor during this time of change.
Since California was experiencing a time of expansion, re shaping its post war economy and
continuing thriving programs were crucial. California Progressivism was key behind all of these
movements which ultimately shifted California s role in the nation and gave the sense that the war was
a defining moment in the state s history. A new economy allowed for many of the state s original
industries helped in the post war growth. These industries established themselves during the war

My Favorite Poems On The Theme Of Poetry
Together with four classmates in my English class, I created an anthology of five poems on the theme
of Death. The authors of these poems are Alan Seeger, Emily Dickinson, Henry Scott Holland, Pablo
Neruda, and Sylvia Plath. My favorite poem is Death is nothing at all and my favorite authors are
Emily Dickinson and Sylvia Plath.
While going over the poems and learning about the poets, my favorite poem is Death is not all by
Henry Scott Holland. This poem caught my attention because it evokes my thinking. What this poem
is trying to say is that even when you die; your soul stays alive. One of my favorite lines in this poem
is Nothing is past; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before only better,
infinitely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other work that I enjoy from Emily is Success is Counted Sweetest ; this poem talks about not
knowing what you have until it is gone, and not appreciating the things you have. I enjoy this poem
because it is true. It tends to be that those who struggle more to get what they want, tend to appreciate
it more than those who get everything easy. Not everyone appreciates success all the way because
once they have the success they lose the ability to care. I think that when you struggle and go through
rough paths you appreciate more because you will always remember those tough times you had to go
through to be successful.
Another one of my favorite authors in this Anthology was Sylvia Plath. I thought it was amazing how
interested she was in writing, and how she started off with just a journal. Something admirable about
Sylvia is that even though her relationship wasn t great because of personal problems with her
husband; she was still able to publish her first poetry collection, and have her first child. Even though
her relationship was falling apart, she was still able to welcome her second child. What is even more
amazing to me is that even after her husband left her for another woman. She was going through
depression and mental illness, she was able to publish her only novel (The Bell Jar.) It is astonishing
to see how she was able to talk about her life experiences while dealing with a mental

Douglas Mawson Research Paper
DOUGLAS MAWSON Douglas Mawson (1882 1958) was an English born Australian geologist. His
expeditions to Antarctica led the United Kingdom to claim large areas of Antarctica. In the 1930 s, the
United Kingdom recognized Mawson s achievements by giving Australia the two sections of
Antarctica. OVERVIEW Early Life: Douglas Mawson was born on the fifth of May, 1882. He was
born in Yorkshire, England. He accompanied his parents to Australia when he was just 4. In 1901,
Mawson received a bachelor of engineering degree from the university of Sydney. Mawson later on
became a lecturer at mineralogy and petrology at the University of Adelaide. During his time at the
university he made many expeditions of his own to the Flinders Ranges mountains in South Australia.
First Antarctic Expedition: Mawson and his geology professor at the University of Sydney; T. W.
Edgeworth David. They both joined the scientific team of the British Arctic Expedition. On March
10th, 1908, Mawson and his several companions reached the top of Antarctica s most active volcano,
mount Erebus. Mount Erebus is 3,794 meters above sea level on Ross Island, which is on the side of

Gerd
LAPAROSOPIC SURGERY FOR GASTROESOPHAGEAL REFLUX DISEASE Gastroesophageal
reflux is the most common gastrointestinal disorder of the western world. Gallup poles have
elucidated that approximately 44 % of the adult population in the U.S. has some abnormal reflux of
acidic gastric juices into the esophagus on a monthly basis. Roughly 10% of patients require daily acid
suppression medication for relief of symptoms. GERD accounts for over 1.0 million out patient visits
to physicians every year! Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, occurs when the lower
esophageal sphincter (LES) does not close properly, and stomach contents splash back, or reflux, into
the esophagus. The LES is a ring of muscle located at the far end of the esophagus as ... Show more

The goals of therapy for GERD include: a) Symptomatic relief; b) Resolution of esophagitis
(inflammatory changes of the esophagus as a result of abnormal acid exposure); and c) Prevention of
complications.
Lifestyle Changes
The first step in treating GERD includes lifestyle and diet modifications: And these are usually very
effective.
1. Elevate the head the head of your bed. You must place blocks under the bed post. Pillows will not
help. Patients with GERD tend to have more frequent and longer episodes of reflux in the supine
position than normal individuals.
2. Try to limit or avoid foods that can exacerbate GERD. This includes decreasing alcohol intake. Eat
small meals.
3. DO NOT SMOKE. Aside from it s effect on LES and GERD, it can cause you a multitude of
serious life and limb threatening problems. But you already knew that. Right?!
4. If possible, lose weight. Excess weight can increase intra abdominal pressure sufficient enough to
overcome the resting pressure of the LES.
5. Avoid tight fitting clothes.
6. Avoid lying down for several hours after eating.
Medical Therapy
If at all possible, try to avoid medications that act to lower the LES pressure. (see above)
Antacids, such as ALKA SELTZER, MAALOX, MYLANTA, PEPTO BISMOL, ROLAIDS, and
RIOPAN, are usually the first drugs recommended to relieve heartburn and other mild GERD
symptoms. Many brands on the market

Essay on Shinto Faith
Shintoism is an ancient religion that originated in Japanese culture. Shinto is a general term for the
activities of the people of Japanese descent to worship all the deities of heaven and earth, and at the
end of the 6th century the Japanese were conscious of these activities and called them the Way of
Kami (the deity or the deities) . The practice of Shintoism finally recognized when Yomei, the 31st
Emperor of Japan, prayed before an image of Buddha for the first time as an emperor for recovery of
his illness. Then Yomei accepted Buddhism, a foreign religion, the Japanese realized existence of a
tradition of their own faith.

The form of the Shinto rituals is considered to be established at this time including Haraekotoba. In
this Haraekotoba, which was chanted for a purification ceremony at that time and is still chanted, the
sins are listed and they are categorized into two: Amatsu Tsumi and Kunitsu Tsumi. At this time, Ritsu

convenient to see these laws in order to look at the Shinto concept of the sin and those sins, which
were prohibited by the secular laws. The gravest sin called Amatsu Tusmi described in the Oharae is
those deeds, which were committed by Susanowo no Mikoto, the brother deity of Amaterasu
Ohmikami, the supreme Kami. According to the myth, he was so rejoiced by being able to prove that
he had no ill feeling against his sister deity, Amaterasu Ohmikami, that he committed vulgarity such as
destroying the paddy fields of Amaterasu Ohmikami to have crop for Niinamesai (Rice crop rite), the
weaving shop where the cloths for the deities were woven and also several other violent mischievous
deeds. It means that all these deeds were against divine festivals. It is described in the myth that
because of these vulgarities, a part of Susanowo s assets was taken away from him and purged from
Heaven. According to the Ritsu, these deeds correspond to the sixth sin,

The Life Of Joan Of Arc
Since God had commanded it, it was necessary that I do it. Since God commanded it, even if I had a
hundred fathers and mothers, even if I had been a King s daughter, I would have gone nevertheless.
(Joan of Arc) Joan of Arc once said after she had gotten the call to follow God. Joan of Arc was and
still is an inspiration to everyone. By her early life she is recodnized, end of life, and by how she
influences the world today. Joan of Arc was a great leader and woman. Jeanne d Arc, or Joan of Arc in
English, was born in 1412 in Domrémy, France while they were at war with England. Of a poor
farmer named Jacques d Arc she was the daughter and her mother Isabelle or Romée. Her mother
taught her how to work at home and on the farm. About God and the Catholic Church she only ever
learned. When she hit the age of thirteen, she started hearing voices and having visions. In a few of her
visions were Saint Michael and Saint Catherine. To help fight for France against the English she
believed that they were all telling her. At sixteen years of age, she was forced into a marriage by her
father after taking a vow of chastity, so she went to the court and they said that she would not be
compelled to marry. Joan of Arc was an extremely stubborn and strong willed woman from an early
age who would do what she thought was right and what needed to be done. (Joan of Arc) In the late
spring of 1428 Joan of Arc went off to fight in the war. The virgin who was destined to save France,

Essay on Chemical And Biological Weapons
Chemical and Biological Weapons
Chemical and biological weapons are the most dangerous threats that our soldiers face today. But just
how much do most of us know about them? The
American public had been bombarded by stories of how our government keeps secret weapons, does
secret experiments, and the everlasting conspiracies. And many accept it all. Rather than simply
trusting our government, (which is perhaps as foolish as believing several unsubstansiated theroies), I
ve compiled several simple facts regarding recent and historic developments in chemical and
biological warfare.
Chemical weapons are defined as chemical substances of gas, liquid, or solid which are used because

Former CIA director, William Webster, has revealed that nearly 20 other nations have the chemical
industry that allows them to make chemical weapons, in fact, many these countries have even
stockpiled these weapons for further use. Several nations, including the United States, have
conventional arms and nuclear weapons.
Numerous Middle Eastern nations feel that since they do not have the same capabilities or funds, they
have the right to make and use chemical weapons in order to counter our advanced weaponry. Because
of the fact that many third world countries feel the need to make chemical weapons, it is frequently
called the poor man s atomic bomb.
Unlike chemical weapons, biological weapons have not been used in modern day warfare. But in
today s technologically advanced world, genetics is quickly becoming a threat in biological weapons.
Scientists are using genetics to develop new deadly diseases that would be used to harm an opposing
country. The new bacteria and viruses that the scientists already have the ability to develop, could be
used against hostile countries. Bacterias and viruses could be used to kill crops and a country s
environment, thereby destroying their food supply. Or, even more effectively, spreading deadly
diseases to the country s citizens and soldiers. By February 14, 1970, the United States Department of

Japanese Culture In Japan
Social Analysis Japanese culture is a blend of modern western culture and traditional Asian culture
(Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan, n.d.) And great value is placed on the need for harmony,
consensus decision making and social conformity and especially close co operation between
government and private enterprise, this emphasis on consensus will need to be taken into account in
business negotiations (Griffin Pustay, 2015, p. 61) Positive market aspects are Japan s high! Education
levels, with universal elementary education and literacy (Abe, 2013; Institute of Export, 2015).
However, problem workforce skill levels should the need arise to employ local labour with 83% of
employers having problems filling vacancies; these positions include sales representative, engineers
and IT staff (Manpower Group, 2015). This may require sourcing staff from Australia. Should this be
the case it will be necessary to apply for a certificate of eligibility and a visa for periods of 3 months,
up to 5 years, processing for this usually takes 3 months (Embassy of Japan in Australia, 2014). The
population is ageing and increasingly health conscious, which provide greater scope for products
promoting health benefits such as SAFCOl ready to eat tuna meals (Austrade, 2016). Japan has a
sizeable middle class with the affluence to afford imported food products. (Griffin Pustay, 2015, p.

Familial Connections in Invisible Man
Family. It is a very fluid yet rigid idea. It has a wealth of definitions, all of which range in degree and
magnitude, and vary from person to person; yet the concept of how a family should work and operate
is very concrete in most American minds. Family is a bond that is crafted every second of everyday
until it is powerful, and this can shape beliefs, outlooks, and confidence. A study found that children

of his culture and heritage. Bledsoe s utter disdain for his fellow black man leaves the narrator with a
sense of shame of his southern black roots as he heads to New York and later discovers the

as if Invisible Man treats his mentors like ever changing trends, abandoning one and immediately
latching on to another. Down on his luck the narrator easily accepts Brother Jack into his life. Brother
Jack quickly opens his arms to the narrator and gives him a house, a great salary, and he even starts to
shape and mentor the narrator in his image. This leads to a need and desire for confirmation of his
worth by Brother Jack about his speeches and work in the community. Brother Jack becomes, as the
narrator puts it, the great white father (Ellison 473). But the narrator s faultless image surrounding

Gaming Communities And The Gaming Community
Title: Gaming communities Name: Subject Name: Instructor s Name: Date: Gaming community is a
type of community whose members have a common interest. Gaming community is contrary to social
communities where members may exhibit different interests. Over time, computer games have grown
contributing greatly to the growth of online gaming communities. In this regard, these gaming
communities may be divided into two; game specific community and general gaming community
(Ahmed, 2010). Game specific communities mainly focus on a particular single game. Everything in
this community is specific to that particular single game. Therefore, discussions in these forums tend
to be more specific and related to a particular game. On the other hand, general gaming community
encompasses various games in one forum. This type of the gaming community tends to attract many
members who can then engage on a general discussion on various games. In this kind of communities,
it is also common to find demo games presented before the real game is played. With time passing on,
the number of gaming community members is increasing throughout the world (Herald, 2014).
According to Victorian Casino and Gaming Authority (1997), this gaming community operates on a
number of ways. In every gaming community, there are three basic features of a gaming community
within which it derives its method of operation. They include chats, forums and profiles. Just like any

Since Mr. and Mrs. Green intend on having joint custody of the children, it looks as if all aspects of
rearing the children, including expenses as well as decision making would be shared among the
parents. Although it is shared , that does not signify that it will be equally shared. The court will
determine, based on the formula contained in the Kentucky Child Support Guidelines, what each
parent pays. Furthermore, since Mrs. Green is without income as a homemaker, it seems as though
some sort of child support payment should be paid in regards to the children while they are residing in
her home. Also, if Mr. Green takes a job, earning less income due to health problems, this may affect
the amount of child support he would be obligated to pay, but it shouldn t keep him from being
required to pay some sort of child support. This job change can cause the court to deviate from the

A nonbiased scientific opinion poll is what is known to be the inquiry or the survey created to
determine the public s perspective concerning a specific subject or sequence of subjects. Qualified

the consequences. It is significant in a random sample that each one in the population being
considered for the study has the same chance of contributing. or else, the outcome could be biased
and, consequently, not representative of the population. Representative samples are selected to create
generalizations about a certain population being studied. Polls tell us what part of the population has a
certain point of view. They do not clarify why respondents think as they do or how to change their
minds. This is social scientists and scholars job . Polls are basically used as a measurement that

often varies chronologically. Little girls are princesses, their existence screams extravagance even

to be active and adventurous. While boys are still coddled and adored, they re allowed to be
rambunctious and cause trouble.
Parents are subject to use harsher disciplinary methods with boys, however, some are less likely to
enforce these rules. The more sports conscious and agile boys seem to get, the more exempt they
become to rules and regulation. Curfews are lifted for the sake of sports practice and groundings are
nonexistent. There are a select group of parents who prefer brains over brawn and will instill morals
into their sons. Abysmal grades and misbehavior are never condoned regardless of the son s athletic
ability and the boy turns out decent later in life.
Conclusively, the sex based comparison of child rearing is more conditional to the number of children
one has as opposed to the sex of the children themselves. There is no real difference in the way
children, in that, they all are expected to conform to their environments and the rules

Barbie Impact On Teenage Girls
Children are usually influenced by the toys they play with in their childhood. While most toys come
and go as fad fades, one particular doll has withstood the test of time: Barbie. She has shaped the lives
of many teenage girls in the ways they want to look or the lives they want to be; she has been their
pop culture icon. Nevertheless, Barbie s perfect appearance and life are unrealistic. Barbie exemplifies
how a perfect doll adversely affects on teenage girls development such as appearance dissatisfaction,
physical transformations, and eating disorders.
The first negative impact of Barbie on teenage girls is their feelings of appearance dissatisfaction.
Barbie has a perfect image with a skinny body, slim waist, and beautiful face, which seems to be an
ideal model for teenage girls. As a result, teenage girls want to have the same perfect body as Barbie.
Therefore, the attractive doll makes teenager girls feel dissatisfied with themselves and have low
confidence about their body. They are not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through Barbie s visual aspect and her perfect life with a luxury house, fancy jewelry, fashionable
outfits, and handsome boyfriend, teenage girls could be persuaded that being beautiful is the most
important matter in their life. They want to apply make up like Barbie. However, achieving the level
of physical perfection that Barbie has requires more than just make up. As a result, teenage girls could
try to have plastic surgery in order to achieve an attractive body like her because Barbie gives them
the expectation of being physically perfect. For example, Pixee Fox, a Swede, underwent more than
one hundred plastic surgeries in attempt to make her look like Barbie. Pixee may be an extreme
example of how Barbie has shaped the lives of teenage girls all around the world, but her experience
demonstrates Barbie is not just a toy; she is the motivation of physical

Persuasive Essay On Year Round Education
Year round education:The Answer Remember the long sunny days spent doing nothing but maxing
and chillaxing with your friends. Well now there being replaced with a new type of day. One where
you go to school and learn different things. During year round schools they have a 45 15 schedule. this
means that for every 45 days of learning they get 15 days off. They also get 30 days off in summer as
opposed to 60 days.During year round school during their breaks they have intercession where kids
can go and learn fun and exciting things. All in all, Year Round Education brings joy, savings and
different learning approaches to school. After trying Year Round Education parents and students
actually like and enjoy Year Round Education. Studies show that 50% of parents are for Year Round
Education before it s implemented; almost 80% are in favor after the first year.(Skinner) This
significant increase in support shows parents are in favor of Year Round Education. Also, Elizabeth
Palmer, project director at the center for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, a study conducted by the ECS said Based on a review of the literature conducted by the
Education Commission of the States (ECS), 22 schools operating on multi tracks experience
Reduced capital expenditures (i.e., facility costs), but do not tend to achieve savings with respect
To operating expenditures (e.g., personnel costs, electricity). (Skinner 7) This decrease in money
shows that Year Round Education helps save costs. Also, Brigid Schulte said that A 10 week summer
meant that my husband and I staggered our work schedules, shoved our kids in camps, set up carpools,
cobbled together babysitters and imposed on neighbors and friends whenever one piece of our
elaborately jury rigged schedule fell apart. The frantic search for childcare during traditional summer
shows that Year Round Education saves money. All in all, Year Round Education cuts costs for parents

Passing By Nella Larsen
Literature in the past failed to represent women in an effective manner, erasing their self identity and
relationships with one another but, certain female authors have attempted to create and demonstrate
the bond between women and their relationships. This essay will analyze Virginia Woolf s reading to
Chloe likes Olivia from A Room of One s Own and apply it to the novel Passing by Nella Larsen and
the women relationships displayed in the text using textual evidence.
Virginia Woolf s reading to the statement Chloe liked Olivia is it was interesting to see Mary
Carmichael, who is a well noted author, present a genuine relationship between the two females and
them not being mentioned about through a man s perspective. Woolf goes on to ... Show more content

Woolf mentions
Carmichael work saying she has every right to attempt new forms and styles, as long as she is creating
something new rather than merely destroying what has gone before. Larsen displays new styles and
created ideas that were brought to light. For example, the relationship between Clare and Irene was
more so a psychological struggle between females. These women both were in this psycho dual
process in which there are two processing systems operating by different rules. There is one view
universally known (stereotypes) then the view that isn t shared by others. They also experienced
double consciousness which means society judged them one way while they absorbed what society
thought of them and mentally judged themselves. Clare knew genetically she was black while she
spoke, dressed, and truly believed she was white. All lineages with her black side was stripped and
banned due to negative connotations with that race and positive with the other. Irene on the other hand
embraced her Black race but wanted pieces of Clare s white world. Woolf later mentions in her text,

Coagulation and Flocculation in Water and Wastewater...
The treatment of surface wastewater is aimed at bringing contaminated water back to its previous state
for domestic use or otherwise. Some of the sources of wastewater include industrial effluents from
manufactures, agricultural effluents, agro industrial as well as domestic wastewater from sinks,
bathtubs, toilets, and so on. Particles in the water from the various sources include bacteria, organic
matters, and sand which cause the water to be turbid or discoloured in appearance and have an
unpleasant odour.
As a result, the removal of the dissolved or suspended components from all these sources is critical in
wastewater treatment. This vital process includes coagulation and flocculation (both processes work in
tandem). In these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coagulation
Coagulation involves the addition of an electrolyte agent that is positively charged. This is added to
contaminated water to destabilize the colloidal suspension by combining with them to neutralize their
charges. Consequently, this prevents them from repelling each other. These neutral charged particles
are called pinflocs or microflocs and are now able to undergo flocculation for settling.
The most commonly used coagulants may be salts of aluminium based or iron based. Aluminium
based coagulants consist of sodium aluminate, poly aluminium chloride (PAC) and aluminium
sulphate (alum). Iron coagulants are mainly ferric chloride, ferric chloride sulphate, ferrous sulfate and
ferric sulphate; also magnesium carbonate and hydrated sodium carbonate (lime) are used.
When these metal coagulants are added to water they rapidly undergo hydrolysis producing
hydrolyzed complexes that are multi charged (example: bivalent 3+ charge). This gives the aluminium
and iron coagulants superior adsorption properties (causing the molecules to stick together). The
dissociation of two coagulants; Alum (aluminium sulphate and Ferrous sulphate) when in water can be
seen below.
Alum
Ferrous Sulphate
From the reactions above, the hydroxide ions (OH ) that will be generated from the compounds will
cause a change in pH of the water to becoming more basic. This then causes the Al(OH)3, Fe(OH)2 or
Fe(OH)3 to form an insoluble precipitate along with

  • 2. Taking a Look at Complentizers Chapter 1: Complementizers 1.1. Definition of Complementizers Complement clauses, or subordinate clauses, are most of the times preceded by a special word called Complementizer . Words like that, if, and for are used to introduce clauses that function as a complement of the matrix verb. The choice of the verb in the subordi nate clause is related to these complementizers. For instance, the complementizers that, if and the Arabic complementizer ʔanna are used to introduce finite clauses, while for and the Arabic ʔan are, of course, for infinitival ones. Our focus in this chapter is going to be on the study of each type of these com plementizers in isolation. 1.2. Finite complementizers A finite clause contains a conjugated verb, that is a verb marked for tense, person, and number. In English, finite clauses have an overt subject. (Marguerite Mahler:2004). Whereas, a finite clause in Arabic is the clause that has a conjugated verb in one of the tenses of Arabic ( present, past, and future). It is well known that the main, or the matrix, clause of a complex sentence must be fi nite. While, on the other hand, the finiteness of the embedded clause is related mainly to the complementizer that precedes it. Consequently, the clauses that follow the comple mentizers that, if, and the Arabic ʔanna are finite clauses. 1.2.1. The complementizer that That is a complementizer used to introduce finite declarative clauses that function as a complement or subject of the matrix clause. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Swot Analysis Of Verizon Introduction Verizon Communications (referred to as Verizon) and Vodafone s partnership of Verizon Wireless ended when Verizon acquired the wireless division during 2013. The acquisition cost Verizon $130 billion, but the gains increase Verizon s possibilities into the future. In fact, it moves Verizon closer to their goal of corporate strategy: to build corporate advantage to earn above normal returns (Diversification, n.d.). Verizon s strategy scope broadens horizontally with the acquisition. A company broadens its scope in three ways: horizontally, vertically, and geographically. A geographic scope expands the organization geographically or globally (Divers, n.d.) A vertical scope comprises of expanding forward, backward, or both, while ... While Cingular has a mass following on its wireless network, it is not the fastest. With continuing demand for devices to connect wirelessly increasing consumers mobility, Verizon s prospects grow. Verizon also gains capabilities that enhance its offering with providing services consumers never knew they needed. It goes beyond the unlimited data plans now offered from the original shared plans from the beginning. Thinking beyond consumer needs of tomorrow, but further into the future, Verizon seeks creative ideas by thinking outside the box. It is those paradoxical suggestions, like its 4G LTE, that sustains the organization. The second test of durability means the resources depreciate slowly (Collis Montgomery, 2008). From the look of Verizon s network, the 103 million additional customers, its reputation, and its brand are not depreciable. • 4. The Cost Effectiveness Of A Drug Or Treatment Rising healthcare costs are a growing concern among individuals, employers, and the federal government. The national conversation on how to best control those costs has forced many drug manufacturers to reevaluate the economics of new, expensive drugs and therapies. Now more than ever, the need to evaluate outcomes and costs associated with alternative treatments has never been greater. Understanding the cost effectiveness of a drug or treatment can be a challenge. Clinical trials are traditionally performed on subsets of the population in tightly controlled environments for a relatively short time. Chance nodes (circles) depict the possible consequence positive or negative of the decision. They are referred to as transition states. Transition probabilities are assigned to each transition state and they must always sum to one. Triangles indicate the point at which the analysis ends and the health impact and/or costs of each consequence is quantified. When decision tree analysis is done at the same time as the clinical trial, the payoff may also be expressed as utilities. Utility can be described in numerous ways. For example, as a percentage of full health. A value of 0.7 corresponds to a person living at 70% of full health. Another way to express utility is quality adjusted life years (QALY). Expected value of each therapy is calculated by multiplying the payoff (dollars, percent, QALYS etc.) with the probability of occurrence for every possible transition state. While decision trees are simple to comprehend, complicated real world scenarios cannot be adequately modeled with basic decision tree analysis. The tree cannot model repetitive events or transitions back and forth between two states. To model repetitive events or transitions backward would require numerous repetitive transition states. Trying to create a path for every possible scenario can quickly lead to a complicated, unmanageable decision tree. Another inherent limitation of decision tree analysis is its stagnant nature. Model conditions, such as transition probabilities or costs, are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Much hard work has gone into the excavations there by many archaeologists, and many interesting artefacts have been found. The story of the Ancient City of Troy is a great one, however many people believed it didn t exist and that Homers Iliad, the story of the Trojan War was just some story. This has since been proved untrue as the city of Troy was discovered, and the pieces of this amazing puzzle have fallen together. He worked on the site for three years with 160 men helping him. In his rush to find the real Troy he dug straight through the other levels until he found a level that looked like it had suffered from burning . He had dug through to level two . He had also found a great stone gate, wide enough to fit two chariots through side by side. This was a massive clue, as Homer had described a similar gateway in his Iliad . As a result of Schliemann s unorganised dig he had destroyed other levels of troy which were more likely to be the Troy Homer described. Schliemann had many convinced that he had found the fallen city of Troy, but others were not so sure. He needed something to prove that this was the Troy from the Trojan War. Then during his last season of excavation at the location of Troy he found it, King Priam s lost treasure. He dug out the treasure, and placed them on his wife which he then took a photo of . It turned out that Schliemann s wife wasn t even in the country when he found the treasure. There was also suspicion that he had just bought the jewels from an antique shop in the town. • 6. Proper Level Of Segregation Between Audit And Non Audit... Abstract Abstract:The purpose of this research paper is to discuss the proper level of segregation between audit and non audit services, to ensure independence and instill public confidence. In the wake of numerous accounting scandals of Enron, WorldCom, etc, the importance of auditor independence has been brought to the forefront of the accounting profession. The U.S. Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) has taken a strict stance on auditor independence, which signifies that an auditor cannot provide business advisory services without impeding their autonomy. However, an analysis of the current auditor client relationship reveals contradictions to the interpretation of absolute auditor independence. In recent developments, ... Financial statement users trust independent auditors ability to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements are free of material misstatement, whether caused by error or fraud. (AU C 200.06) Auditor independence is required to instill public confidence in U.S. financial markets. Thus, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) has a strict view on independence in both fact and appearance. In AU 220.01, PCAOB states that an auditor must be without bias with respect to the client. More specifically, an independent auditor must be free from any obligation to or interest in the client, its management, or its owners. (AU 220.03) This strict interpretation of auditor independence was adopted as a means to restore public confidence in U.S. financial markets following the Enron, Waste Management, and other frauds in the early 2000 s. Unfortunately, the concept of strict auditor independence may be impossible in today s public accounting environment. There are several environmental factors that influence perceived auditor independence. • 8. Characteristics Of Empress Wu Zhao And Genghis Khan Of The... Successful Empires from Vicious, Cold Hearted, Bloodthirsty Rulers During the Medieval Period, the two rulers that are highlighted for their successful governing of their empire are Empress Wu Zhao, ruler of the Tang Dynasty, and Genghis Khan, ruler of the Mongols. During the reign of Empress Wu Zhao (also referred to as the Holy and Divine Emperor) and Genghis Khan (also referred to as the Universal Ruler), both rulers created numerous changes within their empire in an attempt to spark a new world in the empire. Both Empress Wu Zhao of the Tang Dynasty and Genghis Khan of the Mongols share similarities and differences in their achievements that permitted them in establishing a unified empire and having a successful reign. In the people s eyes, Empress Wu Zhao and Genghis Khan were viewed as vicious, cold hearted, and bloodthirsty rulers, because of their chief purpose in gaining sole power that would allow them to rule their empire. During Empress Wu Zhao s reign, she committed immoral acts such as going to the extent of executing her opponents and blaming the deaths of her poisoned nieces on her troublesome nephews. During Genghis Khan s reign, there were several acts of conquests, invasions, and warrior like behavior that resulted in several wars, which caused the non Mongolians to consider him as a cruel ruler due to the destruction of his expeditions. For instance, in the battle against the Tatars, majority of the people were slaughtered and children were captured to become his loyal subjects when matured. Through these acts of cruelty, the rulers were seen as evil. The rulers were always prepared to eliminate any rivals that would interfere with their power or become a hindrance to them. For example, Empress Wu Zhao eliminated the existing empress of China and the leading concubines, which were blocking her path in rising into power, enabling her to obtain the position of Empress of China herself in the year of 655. Empress Wu Zhao went ahead and imprisoned all members of the Tang Dynasty royal bloodline in order to ensure her reign s security. Nowadays, a seance may refer to any number of spiritual processes, from automatic writing to playing with a Ouija board, and it s part of a long history of humans trying to speak to the dead (see Shamanism in its countless iterations). Some mediums claimed they could contact ghosts in song, while others said they needed only a glass of water to sense any spirits present. The most common means of communication, however, was through a process called table rapping, in which the medium would enter a quiet, trance like state, ask any spirits present to come forward, and pose a question, and then the spirit would respond by knocking on the underside of the table (with, for example, one knock meaning yes and two knocks meaning no ). • 21. My Favorite Poems On The Theme Of Poetry Together with four classmates in my English class, I created an anthology of five poems on the theme of Death. The authors of these poems are Alan Seeger, Emily Dickinson, Henry Scott Holland, Pablo Neruda, and Sylvia Plath. My favorite poem is Death is nothing at all and my favorite authors are Emily Dickinson and Sylvia Plath. While going over the poems and learning about the poets, my favorite poem is Death is not all by Henry Scott Holland. This poem caught my attention because it evokes my thinking. What this poem is trying to say is that even when you die; your soul stays alive. One of my favorite lines in this poem is Nothing is past; nothing is lost. Other work that I enjoy from Emily is Success is Counted Sweetest ; this poem talks about not knowing what you have until it is gone, and not appreciating the things you have. I enjoy this poem because it is true. It tends to be that those who struggle more to get what they want, tend to appreciate it more than those who get everything easy. Not everyone appreciates success all the way because once they have the success they lose the ability to care. I think that when you struggle and go through rough paths you appreciate more because you will always remember those tough times you had to go through to be successful. Another one of my favorite authors in this Anthology was Sylvia Plath. I thought it was amazing how interested she was in writing, and how she started off with just a journal. Something admirable about Sylvia is that even though her relationship wasn t great because of personal problems with her husband; she was still able to publish her first poetry collection, and have her first child. Even though her relationship was falling apart, she was still able to welcome her second child. What is even more amazing to me is that even after her husband left her for another woman. She was going through depression and mental illness, she was able to publish her only novel (The Bell Jar.) Nevertheless, Barbie s perfect appearance and life are unrealistic. Barbie exemplifies how a perfect doll adversely affects on teenage girls development such as appearance dissatisfaction, physical transformations, and eating disorders. The first negative impact of Barbie on teenage girls is their feelings of appearance dissatisfaction. Barbie has a perfect image with a skinny body, slim waist, and beautiful face, which seems to be an ideal model for teenage girls. As a result, teenage girls want to have the same perfect body as Barbie. Therefore, the attractive doll makes teenager girls feel dissatisfied with themselves and have low confidence about their body. They are not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through Barbie s visual aspect and her perfect life with a luxury house, fancy jewelry, fashionable outfits, and handsome boyfriend, teenage girls could be persuaded that being beautiful is the most important matter in their life. They want to apply make up like Barbie. However, achieving the level of physical perfection that Barbie has requires more than just make up. As a result, teenage girls could try to have plastic surgery in order to achieve an attractive body like her because Barbie gives them the expectation of being physically perfect. For example, Pixee Fox, a Swede, underwent more than one hundred plastic surgeries in attempt to make her look like Barbie. Pixee may be an extreme example of how Barbie has shaped the lives of teenage girls all around the world, but her experience demonstrates Barbie is not just a toy; she is the motivation of physical ... For example, a study conducted by the ECS said Based on a review of the literature conducted by the Education Commission of the States (ECS), 22 schools operating on multi tracks experience Reduced capital expenditures (i.e., facility costs), but do not tend to achieve savings with respect To operating expenditures (e.g., personnel costs, electricity). (Skinner 7) This decrease in money shows that Year Round Education helps save costs. Also, Brigid Schulte said that A 10 week summer meant that my husband and I staggered our work schedules, shoved our kids in camps, set up carpools, cobbled together babysitters and imposed on neighbors and friends whenever one piece of our elaborately jury rigged schedule fell apart. • 42. Passing By Nella Larsen Literature in the past failed to represent women in an effective manner, erasing their self identity and relationships with one another but, certain female authors have attempted to create and demonstrate the bond between women and their relationships. This essay will analyze Virginia Woolf s reading to Chloe likes Olivia from A Room of One s Own and apply it to the novel Passing by Nella Larsen and the women relationships displayed in the text using textual evidence. Virginia Woolf s reading to the statement Chloe liked Olivia is it was interesting to see Mary Carmichael, who is a well noted author, present a genuine relationship between the two females and them not being mentioned about through a man s perspective. Woolf goes on to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Woolf mentions Carmichael work saying she has every right to attempt new forms and styles, as long as she is creating something new rather than merely destroying what has gone before. Larsen displays new styles and created ideas that were brought to light. For example, the relationship between Clare and Irene was more so a psychological struggle between females. These women both were in this psycho dual process in which there are two processing systems operating by different rules. There is one view universally known (stereotypes) then the view that isn t shared by others. They also experienced double consciousness which means society judged them one way while they absorbed what society thought of them and mentally judged themselves. Clare knew genetically she was black while she spoke, dressed, and truly believed she was white. All lineages with her black side was stripped and banned due to negative connotations with that race and positive with the other. Irene on the other hand embraced her Black race but wanted pieces of Clare s white world. Woolf later mentions in her text, All these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Coagulation and Flocculation in Water and Wastewater... The treatment of surface wastewater is aimed at bringing contaminated water back to its previous state for domestic use or otherwise. Some of the sources of wastewater include industrial effluents from manufactures, agricultural effluents, agro industrial as well as domestic wastewater from sinks, bathtubs, toilets, and so on. Particles in the water from the various sources include bacteria, organic matters, and sand which cause the water to be turbid or discoloured in appearance and have an unpleasant odour. As a result, the removal of the dissolved or suspended components from all these sources is critical in wastewater treatment. This vital process includes coagulation and flocculation (both processes work in tandem). In these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Coagulation Coagulation involves the addition of an electrolyte agent that is positively charged. This is added to contaminated water to destabilize the colloidal suspension by combining with them to neutralize their charges. Consequently, this prevents them from repelling each other. These neutral charged particles are called pinflocs or microflocs and are now able to undergo flocculation for settling. The most commonly used coagulants may be salts of aluminium based or iron based. Aluminium based coagulants consist of sodium aluminate, poly aluminium chloride (PAC) and aluminium sulphate (alum). Iron coagulants are mainly ferric chloride, ferric chloride sulphate, ferrous sulfate and ferric sulphate; also magnesium carbonate and hydrated sodium carbonate (lime) are used. When these metal coagulants are added to water they rapidly undergo hydrolysis producing hydrolyzed complexes that are multi charged (example: bivalent 3+ charge). This gives the aluminium and iron coagulants superior adsorption properties (causing the molecules to stick together). The dissociation of two coagulants; Alum (aluminium sulphate and Ferrous sulphate) when in water can be seen below. Alum Ferrous Sulphate From the reactions above, the hydroxide ions (OH ) that will be generated from the compounds will cause a change in pH of the water to becoming more basic. This then causes the Al(OH)3, Fe(OH)2 or Fe(OH)3 to form an insoluble precipitate along with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
